Multiple Source Paper Slumdog Millionaire: The Feel Good Movie When Danny Boyle s film
Slumdog Millionaire came out at the end of 2008, people instantly fell in love with it. In 2009 it
was nominated for ten Academy Awards and won eight, which was the most won by any film
that year. Everyone seemed to be very drawn to the feel good aspect of the movie where a poor
kid like Jamal, the main character of Boyle s film, can overcome the massive obstacles thrown in
front of his path to success and eventually come out with the girl, 100 million Rupees and the love
of the nation where he just become an overnight sensation. Slumdog Millionaire , a movie review

This sense of being better and more powerful than Eastern countries that is felt in England and
the US, leads us to expect social injustices like the ones shown in Slumdog Millionaire are a
normal occurrence those living in the third world. The fact that Jamal also escapes his fate of
living a life of poverty only gives a somewhat false sense of hope to people in this situation for
the movies viewers and helps to massage (Koehler, 454) their view on the harsh reality of a
culture they barely know. Miles also talks about how the movie plays on our false sense of
cultural reality in India, she quotes the Mumbai Mirror about how the term slumdog is not a term
that is widely recognized in India. They explain that, It appears to be a British Invention to
describe a poor Dharavi kid in a derogatory way. The use of this coined and somewhat derogatory
term only helps in supporting the sense of western dominance over the east by classifying Jamal
and many people in similar socioeconomic situation as slumdogs. The authors are both very much
in agreement on their theory that one reason Slumdog Millionaire was so popular was because of a
combination of ignorance in the targeted westernized audience towards the

What Is The Purpose Of The Book Of Acts
The book of Acts begins as Jesus ascended into Heaven. The Holy Spirit has manifested into the
hearts of the Twelve Apostles, therefore the word of God infinitely spread, and the number of
disciples had grown immensely in Jerusalem. More and more believed in Jesus. As the church
had grown problems had occurred between the Hellenistic Jews and the native Hebrews, Peter
the leader of The Twelve was confronted with a challenging situation. The Hellenistic Jews who
spoke Greek had tension with the Hebraic Jews who spoke Hebrew because they felt as if their
widows were neglected. During this time, the women did not have an education nor had to work
their husbands were the sole providers. Therefore, if their husbands had passed on they will not

During the late 19th century and early 20th century the United States saw many political reforms
that would bring the nation back into a positive and moral state after a bloody civil war tore the
country apart. It is said that the average American over the age of 15 during the time prior
Prohibition drank almost seven gallons of pure alcohol a year. Prohibition was a period of time in
which the average citizen broke the law because alcohol was a major part of citizens lives and the
restrictions on the sale, transportation, and manufacturing of alcoholic beverages illegal. The
urbanized North and Midwest were against Prohibition and the rural West and South supported the
ban of alcohol. Even though that the issue of Prohibition was a... Show more content on

The liquor debate often turned urban anti prohibition Americans against countryside pro
prohibition dwellers. The Anti Saloon League first focused on the local option which gave
voters the power to ban the selling of alcoholic beverages. That approach seemed too slow for
league supporters and they then turned toward the states. In 1907 Oklahoma became the first to
adopt Prohibition. Eight other states banned alcohol selling by 1914. Drys or prohibitionists in
Congress in 1913 passed the Webb Kenyon Act. This act made shipping alcohol into dry states
illegal. The bill was vetoed by President Taft but became law anyways because Congress
overrode his veto. The League s next step was to ban alcoholic sales in the United States by
having Congress adopt an amendment to the Constitution. World War I played a role in the ban
of alcohol because food supplies were needed for soldiers and people were asked to have
wheatless and meatless days by President Hoover. This boosted the Prohibition campaign because
grain is a component in alcoholic beverages and people were asked to give it to soldiers instead of
using it for alcoholic beverages. Prohibitionists also preached that drinking impaired the armed
forces fighting ability. The Eighteenth Amendment was passed in December of 1917 by Congress
and restricted the sale, production, and transportation of all alcoholic beverages. The Anti Saloon
League helped to ensure

Advantages Of BMW And Toyota
2. BMW and Toyota Competitive Advantage
BMW and Toyota are expected to utilize the competitive advantage blocks to support pulling in
investors. They put effort in quality, efficiency, innovation, and responsiveness to customers.
2.1 Quality
Quality is the ability to produce a product with a high useful life, so that it can last longer than a
competitor s products. BMW is continually building up their quality to guarantee that customers are
getting value for their money (Appendix 3, 4).
BMW and Toyota assess quality differently before they report on their autos, and they perform
different tests to guarantee their quality guidelines.
BMW adjusts multi level quality administration frameworks to guarantee the quality of their
products. Generally, their sales will decrease in light of their quality compared with their high
price. In addition, their representatives are well prepared before they work in the production line.
Additionally, they are observed by workers who were recruited just to monitor the quality (BMW
Group, 2015, para. 2).
Moreover, BMW claims to have innovative equipment in the business to create Mini or BMW
autos. On the other hand, Rolls Royce has their own extraordinary industrial facilities to produce

it. One of these people is Lakshmi s stepfather, he sells Lakshmi, his daughter, to get more money
for gambling and alcohol. All he wants from lakshmi is money to live better even if it causes
suffering to his wife who is distraught because of Lakshmi leaving. Ama wipes her cheek with
the hem of her shawl. Your step father has said you must go to the city and earn your keep as a
maid. ( McCormick 48) This just shows the pain that her mother felt because of Lakshmi
leaving. Lakshmi is drugged by Mumtaz and forced to be with men so that she can make more
money. All of this money is then given to Mumtaz. Mumtaz forces these girls into being with
men just so they are not kicked out and forced to live on the streets. In the article Daughters For

sell their daughters, and human traffickers wait at train stations for runaways and scour for
orphans in monsoon ravaged villages. This quote is similar to what happened to Lakshmi at the

In many water poor countries such as India and countries in the Middle East, influential water
companies such as Nestle go in and take water from these areas to sell. This is also an issue that
is taking place right in our backyard. The city of Sacramento, California is in its fourth year of a
record drought yet Nestle is still selfishly draining underground aquifers from the area without
paying for it, only to sell it back to the same people to gain profit.
These are the injustices that are happening all over the world and we need to prevent these
companies from taking advantage of us and our water supplies just to fatten their pockets. We
need to project our political voices and let these companies know that these behaviors will not be

Chronic Myeloid Leukemia
Regarding our recent inquiry as to the viability of an Abl Bcr inhibitor and the marketability
thereof, it is of prudent management to discern the separation between our drug candidate and those
drugs currently existing in the market, and evaluating the ease of development as well as long term
payoffs of said inhibitor. First, however, an introduction to chronic myeloid leukemia, its symptoms
and diagnoses, as well as current treatments, is in order. In better understanding the disease, we can
more properly evaluate our proposed treatment.

If the patient is required to take more doses with CSU 001, but to only pay the same relative
amount, then each of those doses would have to individually cost less than Gleevec. Thus, if the
individual cost to the patient is less, it would in turn lead us to require that the individual cost of
development per dose be less than Gleevec. If this can be achieved, and the cost of development
per dose of CSU 001 is less than Gleevec in proportion to the number of doses taken, then there
should be no discrepancy between development and marketing via the dosage required.
CSU 001 will be priced at approximately $25,000 per year. Requiring a budget of $150 million

How Individuals Communicate Communication Is The Exchange...
How individuals communicate communication is the exchange of data among people. By a life
coach understanding his/her own style of communicating, one will go far towards making great
and enduring impressions with others. Although people have been taught to talk, compose, and
read to from an early age, individuals have gotten little, if any, preparation in listening. Active
listening is a correspondence expertise that joins both verbal and non verbal skills keeping in
mind the end goal to create positive results, by encouraging comprehension, appreciation, and
compassion between individuals. Listening actively enables a life coach to ask questions
effectively, which helps the coach successfully communicate with every one of one s clients, for
they should master the viable skills of questioning. As a coach hone the skill of actively listening
and asking the right questions, they can then use those skills to motivate the client. For, life
coaches, should feel prepared to help other people are ordinarily ready to inspire and motivate. Life

Why Is Cal Mccaffrey Unethical
In today s day and age, mass media has completely changed the way in which we consume news.
The truthfulness of the millions of blogs and web pages makes it hard to trust what is true and
what is not. Newspapers are often an overlooked form of news, which is surprising considering
that it is a accurate, curated source of media. What sets newspapers apart from all the countless
blogs and web pages is the set of ethics that the reporters and editors are required to follow. In

Social Identity And Social Behavior Analysis
Ever since the beginning of this exercise, I have been curious as to if there were any patterns
within individual characteristics that change the likelihood of someone being prosocial or proself.
All three articles deal with understanding the differences between prosocials and proselfs. The
article written in 2001 establishes a difference in prosocials and proselfs. This research shows that
prosocials, as compared to proselfs, will simultaneously pursue the following goals in
interdependence situations: (1) maximize own outcomes, (2) maximize joint outcomes, and (3)
achieving equality in outcomes (De Cremer Van Lange 2001: S15). The 2008 article deals with the

A self concept or self schema, the mental image or perception that one has of oneself, is made up
of three types of identities, role identities, person identities, and social identities. Role identity
refers to the roles we occupy, such as sister, friend, lawyer, etc. These can influence our behavior
by establishing roles, therefore rules as to what type of behavior is expected from us in certain
situations. This could be demonstrated as it relates to gender. We might notice more women
behaving prosocially because they are mothers and sisters, who are typically expected to be
more caring, and so to fulfill their role as mother or sister they will behave as a prosocial more
often. A person identity is a characteristic that effects the way an individual acts. These are
typically characteristics such as funny, kind, or nurtuting. Someone who holds any kind of
characteristic that relates to helping will be more likely to display prosocial tendencies. Finally,
social identities are characteristics about ourselves that we use to associate with classifications.
This could be race, gender, or even religion. We can expect that someone who holds a social
identity that they are religious would feel more inclined to behave prosocially because they feel as
if they need to prove their religious identity. Overall, social identity explains that people will

Franchising Is A Long Term Essay
Nowadays, franchising is one of the easiest ways to start a business. Franchising is defined as a
long term, continuing business relationship wherein for consideration, the franchisor grants to the
franchise a licensed right, subject to agreed requirements and restrictions, to condusct business
utilising the trade and/or service marks of the franchisor and also provides to the franchisee advice
and assistance in organising, merchandising, and managing the business conducted to the licensee
пЃ›1пЃќ. The company granting these rights in deemed the franchisor, the receiver of these
rights the franchisee, and the right is defined as the franchise. The franchiser owns a trademark or
brand, which he (or she) agrees to allow the franchisee to use for a fee (often an original purchase
price plus a percentage of sales). The franchiser provides the franchisee with assistance (financial,
choice of site, and so on) in setting up their operation, and then maintains continuing control over
various aspects of the franchisee s business; for example, via the supply of products, discussion of
their marketingplans and/or centralized staff training пЃ›2пЃќ.
The franchising arrangement may be viewed as an agency relationship in which the franchisor
(principal) is reliant upon franchisees (agents) to undertake actions on their behalf пЃ›3пЃќ.
Franchising organizations differ from other business, based on three important points пЃ›4пЃќ are:
1.Geographic dispersal of organizations units

Armageddon In Retrospect Kurt Vonnegut Analysis
How can the view of a humanist change our perspective of World War II? Kurt Vonnegut, author
of Armageddon in Retrospect, did just that. From the viewpoint of a humanist that was a part of
World War II, I realized there was more to the war than just fighting. Vonnegut is able to tell
nonfiction and fiction short stories that give a different perspective and causes the reader to think
deeper about the war. Up until now, most, if not all, of the pieces I have read about World War II
have been from either a victim of the war or someone in the military, but not a humanist.
Humanists want what is best for everyone and want everyone to work together to agree. This is a
different viewpoint because when I think of World War II, I do not imagine the Axis working or
agreeing with the Allies. I never stopped to think that someone could be fighting in the war, but not
agree with what they were doing, such as killing civilians. Through experiencing World War II first
hand, Vonnegut makes different conclusions, reaches contrasting perspectives, and shows
humanistic viewpoints throughout his short stories. Vonnegut reaches conclusions about the war
that are different than others. After reading some of Armageddon in Retrospect, it seems that
Vonnegut has a personal perspective to the war. He feels sorrow and regret for the killings of
people. Vonnegut is a humanist, so he behaves well and does not expect consequences in the
Afterlife. Him being a humanist is the reason he reaches certain conclusions about the war. For
example, in Wailing Shall Be in All Streets, Vonnegut mentions that he would have rather saved
Dresden and everyone should feel the same as him about all the cities on Earth. I interpret his
conclusion of the war as him thinking it was not necessary to kill many civilians, particularly
women and children. This shows that he wants to do good for people and he believes everyone
should want to do the same, which seems like what humanists want. Vonnegut s conclusions are
different than other readings, such as Stimson s. Stimson, Secretary of War, talked about the United
Nations succeeding due to providence, meaning they won because God wanted them to win. He
ended by saying that they would

Essay on The Woman Warrior, by Maxine Hong Kingston
The theme of voiceless woman throughout the book the woman warrior is of great importance.
Maxine Kingston narrates several stories in which gives clear examples on how woman in her
family are diminished and silenced by Chinese culture. The author not only provides a voice for
herself but also for other women in her family and in her community that did not had the
opportunity to speak out and tell their stories.
The author starts the book with the story of her aunt. This story was a well kept family secret being
that her aunt s actions were of great disappointment to the family. The no name womanas the story
names her, was forgotten by all her family because she had a child that was not from her husband.

After so many years of being subjected by other people, she finally took her life into her own
hands and made an attempt to be happy.
According to the book, this woman gave birth to a baby which was a symbol of embarrassment
and humiliation not only for the villagers but for all the family. Even though this baby did not
have any notion of what was going on, she was still a victim of Chinese norms. This baby also
became forgotten being that she was not given the opportunity to be alive. Kingston s aunt
decision of killing the baby, had to do greatly with the fact that she was girl. As the book states it
was probably a girl; there is some hope for forgiveness for boys . Without any doubt, if the baby
was given the opportunity to live she would have been mistreated and condemned all her life. She
would not have had the opportunity to developed her own identity or raise her own voice .
Additionally, another example that implies that Kingston aunt had no voice is when the author
states, The work of preservation demands that the feelings playing about in one s guts not to be
turned into action. Just watch their passing like cherry blossoms (Kingston 8). This sentence can
be interpreted that a women s feelings and wishes were not allowed to be turned into reality or to
be expressed. On the contrary, their feelings and wishes were only allowed to be kept to their
selves as if

Immigrant In Potato Pancakes By Erich Maria Remarque
From a civilian s perspective, a soldier risking their life in war to protect their country is viewed as
heroic, honorable, and fearless. However, what most fail to realize is that soldiers risk more than
only their lives, but as well as their childhood, future, and most importantly their innocence. These
devastating losses ultimately result in society alienating veterans out of pure ignorance. The drastic
transformation that soldiers undergo often causes them to become outsiders in their own home. As
a response, some veterans attempt to aid civilians in grasping the effects of war through poetry, art,
and literature. Even though truly understanding the brutal nature of war is impossible without
experiencing it, veterans, such as the author... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Currently, Paul is barely able to connect with his childhood, thus he has not completely turned
into a stranger to society. However, once Remarque establishes the potato pancakes original
meaning, he quickly abandons it as Paul finally rejects his mother s last effort to reestablish
their relationship. Paul is again given potato pancakes by his mother, despite his family
struggling to pay for his mother s cancer treatments, but then develops no taste for them ,
prompting him to give them to the Russians (Remarque 198). Although he realizes that [his]
mother cooked them herself and that she was probably in pain as she stood before the hot stove
, he still proceeds to give away two cakes to the Russians (198). This pivotal moment involves
once again the mother s suffering for her son, but as well as his sentiment towards her effort.
The fact that he gives this symbol of family sacrifice away to his enemies, who are complete
strangers, reveals how his past is as unfamiliar to him as a stranger is. Overall, this last refusal
represents how war causes him to completely disconnect from his family, childhood, and society in
general. Once Paul is forced to

What Are The Mummies Of Ancient Culture
Mummies of ancient cultures: facts before fiction For centuries, people have been fascinated
with death. Many questions are asked about what happens after we die, and these questions may
forever remain unanswered. As well as beliefs, everyone has an idea of what they wat to happen
to them after that die. You may want to be cremated and have your ashes spread across an open
meadow, or you may just want to be put in a coffin, and laid into the ground. As it was hundreds of

In the Mayan culture, one would often be buried beneath their own house! The rest of the family
would then abandon the house so they would not disturb the dead. Much mourning was held for
those who had passed. China and ancient Egypt are quite similar! The Chinese would have their
favorite foods buried with them, so they could accompany the soul in the afterlife. (Bradley)
Artifacts that belonged to the deceased would also be buried with them. But the Chinese practiced
one ritual that many other ancient cultures did not: servants and concubines be buried with the
body. Even if they were alive when the deceased had died. It was a way of claiming property. The
Chinese would bury the dead in bronze vessels. Egyptians were buried underground and, famously,
the great pyramids of Egypt. But this was mainly for the fabulously wealthy. For the more common
of the Egyptians, however, a grave was usually the final resting place. (Mark, Burial ) The Romans
practiced burying the dead during the night as to not disturb the activities of the normal city life.
The tradition they used, was that they buried the body on the outside of the city walls in order to
maintain the boundary between the living and the dead. Even when cremation was used, the ashes
could not be buried within the city. The ashes either gathered into an urn, or interred in a tomb.
Romans thought that funerary practices were so important, that they paid money monthly to make
sure their funeral rites would be performed in accordance with tradition, and their status in the
community. (Mark,

Mozart Effect Lab Report
Title
The Effects of Music on the Growth of the Bacterium, Escherichia coli.
Introduction
The purpose of this experiment was to carry out an interesting, unique and uncommon project, just
from curiosity and experiment researches. From prior research, most experimenters chose to use
the Mozart Effect because it was proven to strengthen achievement on cognitive tests(EMedExpert,
1). In this experiment, the genres of music chosen did not include classical music of any type.
From recent research expert scientists have proved that listening to any genre of music that is
enjoyable by preferences has positive effects on insight (EMedExpert, 1). For the beginning of this
experiment, instead of swabbing places for bacteria, the bacteria used was E. ... Show more content

The genre of music with the most abundance of growth in colonies was pop. Country music had
an average of 9.8 colonies grown, foreign music had an average of 11.6 colonies grown, and pop
music had an average of 15.3 colonies grown. From prior research, what could have occurred is
that the genre of pop music possibly had the same vibration rate, or beats per minute, similar to
Mozart s classical music. Though the pop song had an abundance of growth for colonies in
bacteria, the foreign song nearly had the same amount of growth for agar plate 11 and agar plate

real issue of concern. Areas of improvement may be to choose genres of music already tested so
the data collected can be compared to actual results of expert

John Milton Satan Quotes
Paradise Lost is a re telling of the well known story of Adam and Eve. John Milton begins
Paradise Lost by formally stating his poem s subject: humankind s first act of disobedience
toward God and the fall of humanity which followed after. The act is Adam and Eve s
consumption of the forbidden fruit from the Tree of Knowledge, which is told in Genesis, the first
book of the Bible. However, their actions were in response to a serpents trickery. According to
many Christian traditions, this serpent is Satan, the angel who rebelled against God and fell from
heaven to hell where he became pitted against God and all humanity. However, in Paradise Lost,
Milton complicates this set role of Satan. Milton s Satan is an extraordinary and majestic figure
that we find difficult to avoid feeling sympathy towards, and impressed by his pride and
leadership skills. (unafraid of being damned eternally, prideful, a strong leader, comparable to the
size of a Titan, and ingeniously develops his own heaven out of hell.) We can argue that... Show

However, he is also the most likeable character in Paradise Lost. OK, maybe likeable is going a
bit too far, but many readers of the poem have found it difficult to not identify with him and to
avoid sympathizing with him. When he wakes up in Hell, chained to a burning lake, how can
we not feel a bit sorry for him (put sad quote of him chained to the lake). All Satan wanted to
achieve was to overthrow God, which is impossible anyways because God has universal power.
But he doesn t give up when he fails/falls. (find quote about Satan destroying humanity) this is a
another admirable trait that Satan has because he wont give up once he starts something, he goes
and finishes it. A lot of readers can identify with him because it is a characteristic we see in

Essay on Quest For Certainty
The Quest for Certainty
The Seven Storey Mountain
By Thomas Merton
In the autobiography, The Seven Storey Mountain, Thomas Merton explains how he sought to
find certainty in his life through religion. Merton began the book by giving an overview of his
early childhood. His father was from New Zealand and his mother was an American who lived in
France. Both his father and mother were artists and did not earn much money. When his parents
needed extra money, Merton s father would do various jobs in order for the family to survive. For
example, he would garden occasionally and he even played the organ at the local Episcopalian
church for a short period of time. This church was the first that Merton ... Show more content on

One of the turning points in Merton s life was his discovery of the book, The Spirit of Medieval
Philosophy, by Etienne Gilson. Before reading this book, Merton said that, while I admired the
Catholic culture, I had always been afraid of the Catholic Church (p.172). Merton still read the book
and he discovered some concepts that revolutionized his entire life. He learned the transliteration of
God and that faith was something that had a very definite meaning and was a most cogent
necessity (p.175). Shortly after reading the book, Merton had the sudden urge to go to Mass.
He was astounded by the congregation of people that were intimately familiar with the Scripture
of God s word. Although he felt a little out of place, he yearned to understand and to be a part of
something so wonderful. Merton did not stay throughout the entire Mass. Reflecting upon his
visit, he wondered whether his life would have been different if he had known God s grace as a
child. Especially when he viewed the mosaics in the Roman Churches, perhaps they would have
had more spiritual meaning to him had he known what he did then. On November 16th, 1938,
Merton was baptized into the Catholic faith. He described the event as an exorcism of the previous
years of blackness. Finally, he proclaimed that he wanted to be a priest.

Metaphor And The Expressions Of Emotion
Metaphor and the Expressions of Emotion
Introduction:
In May 2015, Walt Disney Pictures released the film Inside Out. The film emphasizes the
neuropsychological finding that human emotions affect interpersonal relationships. It shows how
emotions work inside a person s brain and at the same time how these emotions shape a person s
outer life (Keltner Ekman, 2015). In this film, each character is represented by a colour With is
conceptual metaphor theory (Lakoff and Johnson 1980) can be applied. As this representation
works with the theory of conceptual metaphors. Conceptual metaphors are metaphors that we have
in our mind that allow us to produce and understand abstract concepts (Littlemore, 2008). The five
main human emotions that are represented as characters inside an 11 year old girl brain are: Joy
represented as a glowing yellow; Anger as red; Disgust as green; and Fear as purple. The film was
released all over the world, gaining positive reviews from many different cultures. With these
positive reviews, the question is asked are colours emotion metaphors universal? The purpose of
this study is to test whether the cultural experiences of individuals result in different mental
representations of colour emotion metaphors. The colours black, white, red, yellow, and blue were
looked at because they are primary colours and have more colour emotion metaphors associated
with them.

Lakoff and Johnson claim that conceptual metaphor theory is when

The Mentally ill were a quiet but present existence in Medieval society. The Mentally disabled
were treated with leniency in courts and law codes. This is due to a perceived lack of
understanding between right and wrong, and also that they are already punished enough by their
illness. In this paper, the reason and background of the Medieval origins of the insanity defensewill
be discussed.
Legal Terminology of Differentiating between insanityand mental retardation was important in

Madness was thought to possibly be caused by severe emotional reaction. Remission letters
could be written by these offenders to explain this. Jealousy, anger, and grief could all evoke
powerful reactions and criminal could use their inability to fulfill familial and household roles,

several occasions a recognizably mad person was imprisoned and the officers of justice in the

Analysis Of Octavia Butler s Science Fiction Classic
Bloodchild Analysis Octavia Butler s science fiction classic Bloodchild is the coming of age
story told from the point of view of Gan. The story takes place on an alien planet the very night
that Gan becomes a man. One might expect a highly masculine, ritualistic ceremony or event,
but Butler turns the tables. In order to become a man Gan must be impregnated by an insectoid
like alien named T Gatoi. Cages have often been symbolic in literature as a means of
subjugation, the cages in Bloodchild are imperative to the story in the same way. Through the
explicit use of imagery, metaphor, prose and irony, Butler creates a story reflective of the
sufferings of American Slavery, of life as an African American woman and causes the reader to
reevaluate the way they treat others. Bloodchild has won multiple awards including the Nebula
and Hugo Awards and an award for best science fiction novelette from the Science Fiction
Chronicle (Heifitz). Butler gains literary notability by creating a work so horrifyingly believable,
that is reflective of slavery and discrimination, it is a powerful story that pushes the reader to
thoughts and ideas that might not have otherwise been explored. Similar to how some African
American slaves accepted their treatment, Gan accepts the cages. The first three mentions of cages
come at the beginning of the tale. T Gatoi enters Gan s home, offering gifts. She and Gan embrace
and Gan notices that this action made the others feel caged (Butler 3).

Shelley sThe Revolt Of Islam, And The French Revolution
After the glories of the Revolution had been washed away by the blood bath in France during the
terror and consequent events, the artistic stage of Europe came to be dominated by a spirit of
gloom and misanthropy , a culture of political despondency, an age of catastrophic despair. Shelley
s The Revolt of Islam, according to Cian Duffey, was an attempt to revise the cultural record
surrounding history s foremost political catastrophe, to relocate the apparent disaster of the
revolutionwithin a long term systematic, natural economy of hope . Shelley does not just attempt to
correct the failed political confidences of his fellow artists like Byron, Wordsworth and Southey but
challenges the dominant catastrophist record of the Revolution in the public mind. Writing the
Revolution, to quote Duffy again, would therefore also mean righting the revolution: correcting
public interpretation of what had happened in France . By calling the French Revolutionthe master
theme of the epoch in which we live , and in turn writing about another failed attempt of a
Revolution, Shelley seeks to trace its locus in a Necessitarian/Deterministic notion of the natural
history of politics, a history within which the Napoleonic collapse of the Revolution is a natural
part of the inevitable, the gradual and long term process of political change. Dismissed by critics
like Bloom and White as an abortive allegorical epic which is thematically incoherent , The Revolt
of Islam has not received

Essay on Presidency of Theodore Roosevelt
After the assassination of President McKinley, Theodore Roosevelt inherited a growing empire
when he took office in 1901. The U.S. had annexed Hawaii in 1898 and Spanish American War

difficult as you have to look at complicated figures for most of the time. Based on these facts
along with the information you have provided in the questionnaire, you decided to bring up a
personal injury claim for the recovery of these losses. You have specifically expressed your
concern about paying the fees of our firm. Therefore, I will now provide all the possible funding
methods related to your claim and identify the most suitable one.
Funding Methods:
There are numerous ways which you can use to fund your personal injury claim;
1)Conditional Fee Agreements (CFAs): A CFA is a legal funding arrangement in which you do
not have to pay for my basic charges as your solicitor if your claim is unsuccessful. In other
words, the fees are only payable if your case is won. In the event of a successful claim, you will
have to pay your own costs for the case and a success fee. Success fee will be calculated as a
percentage based on the costs paid by the defendant and this percentage will be decided prior to
the case. The success fee must be paid from the compensation that you have received. As this is a
personal injury claim, the maximum success fee deduction that can be made from your
compensation is 25%. On the other hand, if you lose the case, there will be no success fee
payments but you will be required to pay for your own disbursements as well as for the legal
expenses of

Persuasive Essay On Legalize Marijuana
Legalize Marijuana Marijuana is a drug that is spreading all around the world and is now proven
to be the most beneficial drug out there. More than 25 million Americans annually use it each
year. If the country legalized it then everyone would have more jobs available to go around such
as harvesters, dispensary clerks, distributors, or croppers. Thus, the unemployment rate is
lowered and America could make more money if they taxed it (Jack). Not only could they tax it
but also save more money because they would not have to lock up those people getting arrested
every year. That way America could lower the country s debt and then there is a lot less people
in prisons. It would save the country billions of dollars each year and make billions more each
year. This country needs to tax anything they can because taxing marijuana would bring in so
much more revenue and America could also trade with other countries. Marijuana has also
proved to help cure diseases such as glaucoma, Alzheimer s, and other cancer diseases. It is
proven that it can help alleviate pain, regain their appetite, help in slowing down tumor growth,
help with dizziness, and help a patient go to sleep. THC, which is the main ingredient in
marijuana, helps a cancer patient to gain back their sense of smell and taste so that person can
regain their appetite. Medical Marijuana (oil) helps the dizziness by stopping their vomiting and
keeping their food down and gain weight. Medicinal Marijuana has proved to help

individuals. Most CTD s are preventable and curable if caught early. The key is to notice trouble
when it starts and do something about it. Early signs may include persistent pain, tingling,
numbness, burning, or aching. The signs may be constant or may occur mostly after certain
activities. The drastic cures such as surgery are not reliable and should be a last resort.
Nevertheless, a health professional should be consulted when you are concerned about possible
early signs. (http://www.office ergo.com/alternat.htm). There are also factors concerning who is
more likely to get a CTD than others. Some people

The Implementation Of Rfid Technology Essay
Implementation of RFID Technology
RFID in Airbus operations started in 1997. It first started RFID in its tool lending business wherein
it used to lend tools to its customers that customers needed for aircraft maintenance. The main
objective was to improve the operation efficiency by making tools available at a faster rate to its
customers. A combination of ERP software and Supply Chain Event Management(SCEM) software
was used to implement RFID technology in its tool lending business.
The tool lending process started with Airbus receiving the order from the customer for the
required tool which triggered an event in the SCEM software as discussed earlier. The tool
requested was then made ready for delivery to the customer. The Forwarder had to collect the tool
for shipment and had to update the data for transportation on ERP, which again created an event in
the SCEM software. This data was passed on to the RFID reader and it was written on the RFID
tags on the shipment and the toolbox. Because of the updating of the data on the SCEM software,
each and every supply chain partners which were concerned like the Airbus tools department and
customers tracked the shipment status. After the tool was delivered to the customer, the Internet
enabled handheld device was used by the Forwarder to update the information. The status was then
again made available on the SCEM software and made available online to all the concerned
authorities. After receiving the tool lended to the

Comparing Roland Marchand The Advertisers Of The 1920s And...
Using close readings of the advertisements themselves as well as extensive information on the
marketing and advertising industries, Roland Marchand argues that the advertisers of the 1920s
and 1930s worked both as advice givers about the problems of modernity. His analysis is divided
into three sections: the advertisingindustry, advertising as visual culture. Using three examples,
Marchand illustrates why the early twenties were a turning point in advertising. The reason being
the shift in the ads themselves from being product centered to consumer centered, where the
product is a solution to a consumer problem.
Marchand notes the patronizing attitude of the admen to mostly female consumers even as they
worked to connect with them. However,

Beowulf Versus Shrek

British Literature D
Shrek versus Beowulf (Hero s Journey) Joseph Campbell dedicated his whole life researching
patterns that appear in almost every hero story or movie. He discovered that there are a few basics
stages that just about every hero character goes through. This cycle is called the monomyth or
more commonly known as the hero s journey. This paper will compare and contrast Beowulf and
Shrek and how each fits into the monomyth. Every story that involves a hero will subsequently
follow the concept of the Heroes Journey. In both Shrek and Beowulf, crossing the threshold

This stage in Shrek and Beowulf is quite similar once again. Both of the heroes had to fight
different enemies in order to reach the end goal. It just so happens that both of them faced a fire
breathing dragon along the way. This further proves that Campbell s monomyth is extremely
accurate. The last stage of the heroes journey that will be analyzed using the stories Shrek and
Beowulf is the master of two

Animal Testing Uses
Animals are appropriate research subjects because they are similar to humans in many ways.
(procon.org) They are essential for allowing scientists to learn more about human biology and
health, and for creating and developing new medicines. (yourgenome.org) Animal research helps
save and preserve lives. Animals themselves gain from the results of animal testing. Because
vaccines were tested on animals would have died from rabies. Infections, hepatitis viruses, and

The US Food and Drug Administration endorses the use of animal tests on cosmetics to ensure
the safety of the product and ingredients. Mosquito repellant which helps protect people from
Malaria and other dangerous illnesses, must undergo toxicological tests in order to be sold in the
United States. (procom.org) It has been estimated that millions of animals per year are used to
test the safety of household cleaners, pesticides, industrial chemicals, food additives, packing
materials, drugs and vaccines for both people and animals, and even the food eaten by other
animals. The use of animals to test cosmetics and other care products has declined in recent years,
a wide array of non animal skin and eye irritation tests have been developed to determine the
effects of short term exposure to new ingredients. The pressure from the public has played a major
role in these alternatives.
In conclusion, animal research is important to saving the lives of many people. Animal testing is
used to determine how much of a drug is being absorbed into the blood. Animal testing enabled the
development of countless lifesaving treatments for both humans and animals, that there is no
alternative method for researching a completely living organism and that strictly regulates and
prevents the mistreatment of animals in the laboratory. (prezi.com) Animals should be used in

My First Intercultural Awareness Activity Essay
For my first Intercultural Awareness activity, I chose to listen to the BBC World Report every day
for a week. I listened to BBC from September 7 through September 13. I listened to an hour report
each day, culminating in 7 hours of intercultural awareness. Because of the lengths of the podcasts,
I chose to focus on the main issue that was presented in the podcast.
I listened to the 1st podcast September 7, 2016. It was on an issue that has risen in Ukraine
between two orthodox churches, the Ukrainian Orthodox church of Moscow and the Ukrainian
Orthodox church of Kiev. In a small village in Ukraine called Pticha had the members of the UOM
barricade themselves into their church, forcing those who were associated with the UOK to
worship off of the property. The conflict was supposedly caused because of the political conflict
that is happening between Russia and Ukraine. The leaders of the Ukrainian church of Moscow
believes that the members of the church of Kiev are being too political. They say this because the
members of the church of Kiev are saying that those involved in the Moscow church are not true
patriots of Ukraine.
The reporter asked one of the leaders of the church of Moscow if Russia was pressuring them in
any of their actions against the church of Kiev. The leader said that Ukrainian orthodox church is
autonomous. He stated that [The Ukrainian Orthodox church of Moscow] is absolutely
independent in all areas of the church ... No one in Russia is giving me

Rhetorical Analysis Of The Glass Ceiling

Rhetorical Analysis: The Glass Ceiling Hurts Business Too
In Sarah Bianchi Sand s article, she details the glass ceiling, or an unofficial boundary that prevents
women and minorities alike from reaching their highest potential. Her work is meant to persuade
readers that the glass ceiling isn t a myth, but a real and serious problem. Being the Chair and
Executive Director of the National Committee on Pay Equity, Sarah has plenty of reason for
wanting to persuade this topic. Her thesis effectively starts this process by laying out what is
happening. This theory is circulating widely among the press perhaps because it is controversial
and contradicts what has become rather boring to the media but what remains are the real life
experiences of women and people of color no real change in the wage gap and no improvement in
the glass ceiling (Bianchi Sand p.306). This thesis opens the door for Sarah to talk about and
persuade her readers that the glass ceiling is no myth. By using ethos, pathos, and logos our Author
persuades her readers that the glass ceiling is hurting business but can be raised.
Sarah Bianchi Sand began her career path as an advocate of equal pay for equal work in 1969
when she took a job as a stewardess for United Airlines. Appalled by the inequalities she saw there,
she ran for and won a seat as president of the flight attendants union. Now Chair and Executive
Director of the National Committee

Relationship between Inequality and Financial Crisis Essay
Relationship between inequality and financial crisis
The most recent global crisis has rejuvenated interest in the relationship between inequality, credit
booms, and financial calamities. Many analysts propose that rising levels of inequality led to a
credit boom and eventually to a financial crisis. Others, however, have distanced themselves from
that notion arguing that while inequality can be blamed for many things, the global crisis may not
be one of them. In deriving a personal stand regarding the above predicament I will have to evaluate
the different ideologies that most economic scholars have applied in deriving their conclusions on
whether the cases of inequalities in the world s population mostly in the US, contributed to the ...

It suggests that given the rise in levels of inequality, the credit expansion in the personal sector
before the recession was both necessary for supporting aggregate demand and employment, and
it was unsustainable. According to this hypothesis, government policies that explicitly aimed at
promoting lending to low income groups were the one to blame for the crisis. It also blames
economists for not learning from the previous depression that occurred in 1920. A more
simplified explanation is that given by economists from the International Monetary Fund and
academia. The overall discovery from their research was the trend where the rich got richer
while the poor struggled even more to make ends meet decades before both recessions of 1920
and 2008. The debts levels increased due to the availability of cash from the rich which they used
to buy bonds and bank deposits. Cash in the banks was provided to the poor and middle class in
form of debt as they tried to maintain their standards of living. One groups increasing wealth and
the others increasing reliance on debt spurred growth in the financial sector due to the boom in
lending, an imbalance which would rectify itself through a reversal at the end of 2007 causing the
bank crisis of 2008.
It is from this explanation that I draw my conclusion that the increasing levels of inequality did
indeed have a role to play in each of the

Posture and Tension
We should spend 10 or 15 minutes of every hour doing contrasting activities, which involve
bending, stretching, moving about and generally all those things which we are not doing in front of
the screen.
2. Breathing and Blood Circulation
Practice taking a few deep breaths, often while working at your computer. Get up and move about
regularly, try to introduce some aerobic exercise into these breaks. Do whatever it takes to get the
blood moving around in the body, to get your lungs opened up and cleared out.
3. Digestive System and Skin Health
Eat away from the computer. Take a break, walk to the shop and buy some fresh food, prepare it
yourself, eat it in a relaxed manner. Focus your attention on the food and the enjoyment of it.
Drink regularly. Keep a large jug or bottle of fresh water on the desk. Get up frequently and make a
herb tea drink like Chamomile or Rosehips or Mint for example.
4. Electromagnetic Radiation
To avoid electromagnetic radiation, take regular breaks from your computer and don t take these
breaks in front of the T.V.

how technology has changed

How technology has changed Technology today, has allowed us to connect with people with ease,
and has made many tasks so much easier. From desktops to IPhones, the world we live in today
allows us to communicate with anybody with wireless access with just a couple clicks of a mouse.
As civilization has evolved so has technology, from letters to phone calls to email, basic
communication methods have consistently progressed into the complex system we have today. As
we become more dependent on technological communication, such improvements will continue to
be made. First of all, imagine attempting to live the way we do today, to the way we use to live a
decade ago. I remember having to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It seems hard these days to fathom the original size of computers and how small they have
become in the last ten years, but within the last five they have become even smaller and
somehow more powerful and faster than ever! For the past decade or so, technology has
transformed the way we communicate, the days are gone where we had to write letters and mail
them out and wait a week for our friends and family to receive them now, we can just email and
within seconds they receive our letters. Long distance phone calls are also unnecessary for anyone
with a computer, a webcam and a speedy internet connection is all you need now. Cell phones are
a huge advantage for us because we can now place calls to anyone in the world no matter where
we are at, we no longer have to wait until we get home or look for a phone booth to place
emergency phone calls. One of the disadvantages of all this technology we have is that it has made
our society somewhat impersonal. For instance, instead of communicating with my customers at
work over the phone, I can now just communicate with them through e mail or through instant
messaging. As a result, it is difficult to tell if one of my customers is upset. Technology also tends
to make communication drag out more than it has to, sometimes it s quicker to just get out of
your seat and walk to the person, or just simply pick up the phone. To conclude, I believe in
technology, and I completely support it but only to an extent. I say, go

Multiple Source Paper Slumdog Millionaire: The Feel Good Movie When Danny Boyle s film Slumdog Millionaire came out at the end of 2008, people instantly fell in love with it. In 2009 it was nominated for ten Academy Awards and won eight, which was the most won by any film that year. Everyone seemed to be very drawn to the feel good aspect of the movie where a poor kid like Jamal, the main character of Boyle s film, can overcome the massive obstacles thrown in front of his path to success and eventually come out with the girl, 100 million Rupees and the love of the nation where he just become an overnight sensation. This sense of being better and more powerful than Eastern countries that is felt in England and the US, leads us to expect social injustices like the ones shown in Slumdog Millionaire are a normal occurrence those living in the third world. The fact that Jamal also escapes his fate of living a life of poverty only gives a somewhat false sense of hope to people in this situation for the movies viewers and helps to massage (Koehler, 454) their view on the harsh reality of a culture they barely know. Miles also talks about how the movie plays on our false sense of cultural reality in India, she quotes the Mumbai Mirror about how the term slumdog is not a term that is widely recognized in India. They explain that, It appears to be a British Invention to describe a poor Dharavi kid in a derogatory way. The use of this coined and somewhat derogatory term only helps in supporting the sense of western dominance over the east by classifying Jamal and many people in similar socioeconomic situation as slumdogs. The authors are both very much in agreement on their theory that one reason Slumdog Millionaire was so popular was because of a combination of ignorance in the targeted westernized audience towards the ... During the late 19th century and early 20th century the United States saw many political reforms that would bring the nation back into a positive and moral state after a bloody civil war tore the country apart. It is said that the average American over the age of 15 during the time prior Prohibition drank almost seven gallons of pure alcohol a year. Prohibition was a period of time in which the average citizen broke the law because alcohol was a major part of citizens lives and the restrictions on the sale, transportation, and manufacturing of alcoholic beverages illegal. The urbanized North and Midwest were against Prohibition and the rural West and South supported the ban of alcohol. Even though that the issue of Prohibition was a... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The liquor debate often turned urban anti prohibition Americans against countryside pro prohibition dwellers. The Anti Saloon League first focused on the local option which gave voters the power to ban the selling of alcoholic beverages. That approach seemed too slow for league supporters and they then turned toward the states. In 1907 Oklahoma became the first to adopt Prohibition. Eight other states banned alcohol selling by 1914. Drys or prohibitionists in Congress in 1913 passed the Webb Kenyon Act. This act made shipping alcohol into dry states illegal. The bill was vetoed by President Taft but became law anyways because Congress overrode his veto. The League s next step was to ban alcoholic sales in the United States by having Congress adopt an amendment to the Constitution. World War I played a role in the ban of alcohol because food supplies were needed for soldiers and people were asked to have wheatless and meatless days by President Hoover. This boosted the Prohibition campaign because grain is a component in alcoholic beverages and people were asked to give it to soldiers instead of using it for alcoholic beverages. Prohibitionists also preached that drinking impaired the armed forces fighting ability. The Eighteenth Amendment was passed in December of 1917 by Congress and restricted the sale, production, and transportation of all alcoholic beverages. The Anti Saloon League helped to ensure ... First, however, an introduction to chronic myeloid leukemia, its symptoms and diagnoses, as well as current treatments, is in order. Social Identity And Social Behavior Analysis Ever since the beginning of this exercise, I have been curious as to if there were any patterns within individual characteristics that change the likelihood of someone being prosocial or proself. All three articles deal with understanding the differences between prosocials and proselfs. The article written in 2001 establishes a difference in prosocials and proselfs. This research shows that prosocials, as compared to proselfs, will simultaneously pursue the following goals in interdependence situations: (1) maximize own outcomes, (2) maximize joint outcomes, and (3) achieving equality in outcomes (De Cremer Van Lange 2001: S15). A self concept or self schema, the mental image or perception that one has of oneself, is made up of three types of identities, role identities, person identities, and social identities. Role identity refers to the roles we occupy, such as sister, friend, lawyer, etc. These can influence our behavior by establishing roles, therefore rules as to what type of behavior is expected from us in certain situations. This could be demonstrated as it relates to gender. We might notice more women behaving prosocially because they are mothers and sisters, who are typically expected to be more caring, and so to fulfill their role as mother or sister they will behave as a prosocial more often. A person identity is a characteristic that effects the way an individual acts. These are typically characteristics such as funny, kind, or nurtuting. Someone who holds any kind of characteristic that relates to helping will be more likely to display prosocial tendencies. Finally, social identities are characteristics about ourselves that we use to associate with classifications. This could be race, gender, or even religion. We can expect that someone who holds a social identity that they are religious would feel more inclined to behave prosocially because they feel as if they need to prove their religious identity. • 14. Franchising Is A Long Term Essay Nowadays, franchising is one of the easiest ways to start a business. Franchising is defined as a long term, continuing business relationship wherein for consideration, the franchisor grants to the franchise a licensed right, subject to agreed requirements and restrictions, to condusct business utilising the trade and/or service marks of the franchisor and also provides to the franchisee advice and assistance in organising, merchandising, and managing the business conducted to the licensee пЃ›1пЃќ. • 15. Armageddon In Retrospect Kurt Vonnegut Analysis How can the view of a humanist change our perspective of World War II? Kurt Vonnegut, author of Armageddon in Retrospect, did just that. From the viewpoint of a humanist that was a part of World War II, I realized there was more to the war than just fighting. Vonnegut is able to tell nonfiction and fiction short stories that give a different perspective and causes the reader to think deeper about the war. Up until now, most, if not all, of the pieces I have read about World War II have been from either a victim of the war or someone in the military, but not a humanist. Humanists want what is best for everyone and want everyone to work together to agree. This is a different viewpoint because when I think of World War II, I do not imagine the Axis working or agreeing with the Allies. I never stopped to think that someone could be fighting in the war, but not agree with what they were doing, such as killing civilians. Through experiencing World War II first hand, Vonnegut makes different conclusions, reaches contrasting perspectives, and shows humanistic viewpoints throughout his short stories. Vonnegut reaches conclusions about the war that are different than others. After reading some of Armageddon in Retrospect, it seems that Vonnegut has a personal perspective to the war. He feels sorrow and regret for the killings of people. Vonnegut is a humanist, so he behaves well and does not expect consequences in the Afterlife. Him being a humanist is the reason he reaches certain conclusions about the war. For example, in Wailing Shall Be in All Streets, Vonnegut mentions that he would have rather saved Dresden and everyone should feel the same as him about all the cities on Earth. I interpret his conclusion of the war as him thinking it was not necessary to kill many civilians, particularly women and children. This shows that he wants to do good for people and he believes everyone should want to do the same, which seems like what humanists want. Vonnegut s conclusions are different than other readings, such as Stimson s. Stimson, Secretary of War, talked about the United Nations succeeding due to providence, meaning they won because God wanted them to win. He ended by saying that they would ... Even though this baby did not have any notion of what was going on, she was still a victim of Chinese norms. This baby also became forgotten being that she was not given the opportunity to be alive. Kingston s aunt decision of killing the baby, had to do greatly with the fact that she was girl. As the book states it was probably a girl; there is some hope for forgiveness for boys . Without any doubt, if the baby was given the opportunity to live she would have been mistreated and condemned all her life. She would not have had the opportunity to developed her own identity or raise her own voice . • 17. Immigrant In Potato Pancakes By Erich Maria Remarque From a civilian s perspective, a soldier risking their life in war to protect their country is viewed as heroic, honorable, and fearless. However, what most fail to realize is that soldiers risk more than only their lives, but as well as their childhood, future, and most importantly their innocence. These devastating losses ultimately result in society alienating veterans out of pure ignorance. The drastic transformation that soldiers undergo often causes them to become outsiders in their own home. As a response, some veterans attempt to aid civilians in grasping the effects of war through poetry, art, and literature. Although he realizes that [his] mother cooked them herself and that she was probably in pain as she stood before the hot stove , he still proceeds to give away two cakes to the Russians (198). This pivotal moment involves once again the mother s suffering for her son, but as well as his sentiment towards her effort. The fact that he gives this symbol of family sacrifice away to his enemies, who are complete strangers, reveals how his past is as unfamiliar to him as a stranger is. In the Mayan culture, one would often be buried beneath their own house! The rest of the family would then abandon the house so they would not disturb the dead. Much mourning was held for those who had passed. China and ancient Egypt are quite similar! The Chinese would have their favorite foods buried with them, so they could accompany the soul in the afterlife. (Bradley) Artifacts that belonged to the deceased would also be buried with them. But the Chinese practiced one ritual that many other ancient cultures did not: servants and concubines be buried with the body. Even if they were alive when the deceased had died. It was a way of claiming property. The Chinese would bury the dead in bronze vessels. Egyptians were buried underground and, famously, the great pyramids of Egypt. But this was mainly for the fabulously wealthy. For the more common of the Egyptians, however, a grave was usually the final resting place. (Mark, Burial ) The Romans practiced burying the dead during the night as to not disturb the activities of the normal city life. The tradition they used, was that they buried the body on the outside of the city walls in order to maintain the boundary between the living and the dead. Even when cremation was used, the ashes could not be buried within the city. The ashes either gathered into an urn, or interred in a tomb. John Milton begins Paradise Lost by formally stating his poem s subject: humankind s first act of disobedience toward God and the fall of humanity which followed after. The act is Adam and Eve s consumption of the forbidden fruit from the Tree of Knowledge, which is told in Genesis, the first book of the Bible. However, their actions were in response to a serpents trickery. According to many Christian traditions, this serpent is Satan, the angel who rebelled against God and fell from heaven to hell where he became pitted against God and all humanity. However, in Paradise Lost, Milton complicates this set role of Satan. Milton s Satan is an extraordinary and majestic figure that we find difficult to avoid feeling sympathy towards, and impressed by his pride and leadership skills. Both his father and mother were artists and did not earn much money. When his parents needed extra money, Merton s father would do various jobs in order for the family to survive. Before reading this book, Merton said that, while I admired the Catholic culture, I had always been afraid of the Catholic Church (p.172). Merton still read the book and he discovered some concepts that revolutionized his entire life. He learned the transliteration of God and that faith was something that had a very definite meaning and was a most cogent necessity (p.175). Shortly after reading the book, Merton had the sudden urge to go to Mass. He was astounded by the congregation of people that were intimately familiar with the Scripture of God s word. Although he felt a little out of place, he yearned to understand and to be a part of something so wonderful. Merton did not stay throughout the entire Mass. Reflecting upon his visit, he wondered whether his life would have been different if he had known God s grace as a child. Especially when he viewed the mosaics in the Roman Churches, perhaps they would have had more spiritual meaning to him had he known what he did then. On November 16th, 1938, Merton was baptized into the Catholic faith. He described the event as an exorcism of the previous years of blackness. The film emphasizes the neuropsychological finding that human emotions affect interpersonal relationships. It shows how emotions work inside a person s brain and at the same time how these emotions shape a person s outer life (Keltner Ekman, 2015). In this film, each character is represented by a colour With is conceptual metaphor theory (Lakoff and Johnson 1980) can be applied. As this representation works with the theory of conceptual metaphors. Conceptual metaphors are metaphors that we have in our mind that allow us to produce and understand abstract concepts (Littlemore, 2008). The five main human emotions that are represented as characters inside an 11 year old girl brain are: Joy represented as a glowing yellow; Anger as red; Disgust as green; and Fear as purple. The film was released all over the world, gaining positive reviews from many different cultures. With these positive reviews, the question is asked are colours emotion metaphors universal? The purpose of this study is to test whether the cultural experiences of individuals result in different mental representations of colour emotion metaphors. • 25. Analysis Of Octavia Butler s Science Fiction Classic Bloodchild Analysis Octavia Butler s science fiction classic Bloodchild is the coming of age story told from the point of view of Gan. The story takes place on an alien planet the very night that Gan becomes a man. One might expect a highly masculine, ritualistic ceremony or event, but Butler turns the tables. In order to become a man Gan must be impregnated by an insectoid like alien named T Gatoi. Cages have often been symbolic in literature as a means of subjugation, the cages in Bloodchild are imperative to the story in the same way. Through the explicit use of imagery, metaphor, prose and irony, Butler creates a story reflective of the sufferings of American Slavery, of life as an African American woman and causes the reader to reevaluate the way they treat others. Bloodchild has won multiple awards including the Nebula and Hugo Awards and an award for best science fiction novelette from the Science Fiction Chronicle (Heifitz). Butler gains literary notability by creating a work so horrifyingly believable, that is reflective of slavery and discrimination, it is a powerful story that pushes the reader to thoughts and ideas that might not have otherwise been explored. Similar to how some African American slaves accepted their treatment, Gan accepts the cages. The first three mentions of cages come at the beginning of the tale. T Gatoi enters Gan s home, offering gifts. She and Gan embrace and Gan notices that this action made the others feel caged (Butler 3). ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 26. Shelley sThe Revolt Of Islam, And The French Revolution After the glories of the Revolution had been washed away by the blood bath in France during the terror and consequent events, the artistic stage of Europe came to be dominated by a spirit of gloom and misanthropy , a culture of political despondency, an age of catastrophic despair. Shelley s The Revolt of Islam, according to Cian Duffey, was an attempt to revise the cultural record surrounding history s foremost political catastrophe, to relocate the apparent disaster of the revolutionwithin a long term systematic, natural economy of hope . Shelley does not just attempt to correct the failed political confidences of his fellow artists like Byron, Wordsworth and Southey but challenges the dominant catastrophist record of the Revolution in the public mind. Writing the Revolution, to quote Duffy again, would therefore also mean righting the revolution: correcting public interpretation of what had happened in France . By calling the French Revolutionthe master theme of the epoch in which we live , and in turn writing about another failed attempt of a Revolution, Shelley seeks to trace its locus in a Necessitarian/Deterministic notion of the natural history of politics, a history within which the Napoleonic collapse of the Revolution is a natural part of the inevitable, the gradual and long term process of political change. Dismissed by critics like Bloom and White as an abortive allegorical epic which is thematically incoherent , The Revolt of Islam has not received ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

One reason is because the world has been faced with an explosion of computer technology. As more and more work, education and recreation involves computers, everyone needs to be aware of the hazards of Repetitive Strain Injury (RSI), also referred to as Cumulative Trauma Disorder (CTD), to the hands and arms resulting from the use of computer keyboards and mice. This can be a serious and very painful condition that is far easier to prevent than to cure once contracted, and can occur even in young physically fit individuals. Most CTD s are preventable and curable if caught early. The key is to notice trouble when it starts and do something about it. Early signs may include persistent pain, tingling, numbness, burning, or aching. The signs may be constant or may occur mostly after certain activities. The drastic cures such as surgery are not reliable and should be a last resort. Nevertheless, a health professional should be consulted when you are concerned about possible early signs. • 40. The Implementation Of Rfid Technology Essay Implementation of RFID Technology RFID in Airbus operations started in 1997. It first started RFID in its tool lending business wherein it used to lend tools to its customers that customers needed for aircraft maintenance. The main objective was to improve the operation efficiency by making tools available at a faster rate to its customers. A combination of ERP software and Supply Chain Event Management(SCEM) software was used to implement RFID technology in its tool lending business. The tool lending process started with Airbus receiving the order from the customer for the required tool which triggered an event in the SCEM software as discussed earlier. The tool requested was then made ready for delivery to the customer. The Forwarder had to collect the tool for shipment and had to update the data for transportation on ERP, which again created an event in the SCEM software. This data was passed on to the RFID reader and it was written on the RFID tags on the shipment and the toolbox. Because of the updating of the data on the SCEM software, each and every supply chain partners which were concerned like the Airbus tools department and customers tracked the shipment status. After the tool was delivered to the customer, the Internet enabled handheld device was used by the Forwarder to update the information. The status was then again made available on the SCEM software and made available online to all the concerned authorities. After receiving the tool lended to the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Using close readings of the advertisements themselves as well as extensive information on the marketing and advertising industries, Roland Marchand argues that the advertisers of the 1920s and 1930s worked both as advice givers about the problems of modernity. His analysis is divided into three sections: the advertisingindustry, advertising as visual culture. Using three examples, Marchand illustrates why the early twenties were a turning point in advertising. The reason being the shift in the ads themselves from being product centered to consumer centered, where the product is a solution to a consumer problem. Marchand notes the patronizing attitude of the admen to mostly female consumers even as they worked to connect with them. However, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In a small village in Ukraine called Pticha had the members of the UOM barricade themselves into their church, forcing those who were associated with the UOK to worship off of the property. The conflict was supposedly caused because of the political conflict that is happening between Russia and Ukraine. The leaders of the Ukrainian church of Moscow believes that the members of the church of Kiev are being too political. They say this because the members of the church of Kiev are saying that those involved in the Moscow church are not true patriots of Ukraine. • 45. Rhetorical Analysis Of The Glass Ceiling Frank, Carter Almond Enc1102 October 17th, 2017 Rhetorical Analysis: The Glass Ceiling Hurts Business Too In Sarah Bianchi Sand s article, she details the glass ceiling, or an unofficial boundary that prevents women and minorities alike from reaching their highest potential. Her work is meant to persuade readers that the glass ceiling isn t a myth, but a real and serious problem. Being the Chair and Executive Director of the National Committee on Pay Equity, Sarah has plenty of reason for wanting to persuade this topic. Her thesis effectively starts this process by laying out what is happening. This theory is circulating widely among the press perhaps because it is controversial and contradicts what has become rather boring to the media but what remains are the real life experiences of women and people of color no real change in the wage gap and no improvement in the glass ceiling (Bianchi Sand p.306). This thesis opens the door for Sarah to talk about and persuade her readers that the glass ceiling is no myth. By using ethos, pathos, and logos our Author persuades her readers that the glass ceiling is hurting business but can be raised. Sarah Bianchi Sand began her career path as an advocate of equal pay for equal work in 1969 when she took a job as a stewardess for United Airlines. Appalled by the inequalities she saw there, she ran for and won a seat as president of the flight attendants union. Now Chair and Executive Director of the National Committee ... Relationship between Inequality and Financial Crisis Essay Relationship between inequality and financial crisis The most recent global crisis has rejuvenated interest in the relationship between inequality, credit booms, and financial calamities. Many analysts propose that rising levels of inequality led to a credit boom and eventually to a financial crisis. Others, however, have distanced themselves from that notion arguing that while inequality can be blamed for many things, the global crisis may not be one of them. In deriving a personal stand regarding the above predicament I will have to evaluate the different ideologies that most economic scholars have applied in deriving their conclusions on whether the cases of inequalities in the world s population mostly in the US, contributed to the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It suggests that given the rise in levels of inequality, the credit expansion in the personal sector before the recession was both necessary for supporting aggregate demand and employment, and it was unsustainable. According to this hypothesis, government policies that explicitly aimed at promoting lending to low income groups were the one to blame for the crisis. It also blames economists for not learning from the previous depression that occurred in 1920. A more simplified explanation is that given by economists from the International Monetary Fund and academia. The overall discovery from their research was the trend where the rich got richer while the poor struggled even more to make ends meet decades before both recessions of 1920 and 2008. The debts levels increased due to the availability of cash from the rich which they used to buy bonds and bank deposits. Cash in the banks was provided to the poor and middle class in form of debt as they tried to maintain their standards of living. One groups increasing wealth and the others increasing reliance on debt spurred growth in the financial sector due to the boom in lending, an imbalance which would rectify itself through a reversal at the end of 2007 causing the bank crisis of 2008. It is from this explanation that I draw my conclusion that the increasing levels of inequality did indeed have a role to play in each of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

As civilization has evolved so has technology, from letters to phone calls to email, basic communication methods have consistently progressed into the complex system we have today. It seems hard these days to fathom the original size of computers and how small they have become in the last ten years, but within the last five they have become even smaller and somehow more powerful and faster than ever! For the past decade or so, technology has transformed the way we communicate, the days are gone where we had to write letters and mail them out and wait a week for our friends and family to receive them now, we can just email and within seconds they receive our letters. Long distance phone calls are also unnecessary for anyone with a computer, a webcam and a speedy internet connection is all you need now. Cell phones are a huge advantage for us because we can now place calls to anyone in the world no matter where we are at, we no longer have to wait until we get home or look for a phone booth to place emergency phone calls. One of the disadvantages of all this technology we have is that it has made our society somewhat impersonal. For instance, instead of communicating with my customers at work over the phone, I can now just communicate with them through e mail or through instant messaging. As a result, it is difficult to tell if one of my customers is upset. Technology also tends to make communication drag out more than it has to, sometimes it s quicker to just get out of your seat and walk to the person, or just simply pick up the phone.
