Dell Inc. Company s Strategy
Dell Inc., which is headquartered in Texas, was founded by Michael Dell in the year 1984, and
the company s strategy when it came to distributing differed from other competitors in the
computing industry due to the fact it did business with its customers directly versus using
middlemen such as retailers or and wholesalers. This afforded Dell s customers the ability to
have computers built to their specification as they order them, and kept the company s costs at
low levels. The company s website brought in one million dollars on its own in 1997. The

The Political Economy Of North America
Abstract
1986 was a pivotal year for the political economy of North America. During that year, some
significant events took place that resulted to the beginning of a new era. In Mexico, a new political
leader exerted the country towards entering the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade. Mexico
made an alliance with the United States that would ultimately create a free trade zone stretching
from Central America all the way to the North Pole. Rather than incorporating the movement of
workers of North America into the alliance, the United States insisted on controlling its borders
unilaterally in order to prevent the integration of its labor markets. This event lead to Congress
passing the Immigration Reform and Control Act. Many of the immigrants entered America in
search for work and a better life. As the immigration population increased, American citizens began
to worry about the economy and their jobs, safety, and their health.
The Porous Mexican Border The 700 mile long fence that was constructed along the United States
Mexico border less than a month before the nation s population hit the 300 million mark, was not a
coincidence. The United States Congress knew that there was a dramatic change in the face of the
United States since the population hit 200 million in the year of 1967 and therefore voted to
approve a bill, (HR 6061), that would limit immigration (Kesler and Bloemraad, 2010). Immigration
has had a significant impact on many aspects of

Essay about Serial Killers Modus Operandi
Serial Killers Modus Operandi A plethora of serial killers, dead and undead, have been most
horrifying in their methods. There are several types of serial killers, some have been caught while
others continue to haunt their surroundings. There are several approaches in categorizing serial
killers. One method requires examination of the crime scene, the other requires counseling with the
serial killer. In profiling a serial killer, law enforcers realize that serial killers are not unlike
regular people; there are several exceptions like schizophrenics but most of them look like
everyone else. Serial killers, often, do not just kill, they might also eat their victims, torture, or rape
them, and then they finish them off. A serial killer is... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Jeff Lindsay describes this voice as the dark passenger in his famous Dexter series of novels; a
voice that cannot be ignored. David Berkowitz, also known as Son of Sam, claims that a demon
gave him orders to kill via a neighbor s dog. Berkowitz is regarded as an act focused serial killer,
more specifically, a visionary. Process focused is composed of hedonists, who kill for pleasures
lust, thrill, and gain and power seeking killers who wish to control, with a predilection to
manipulate mortality. As special as serial killers are, they often fall into more than one category,
Berkowitz for example was also a thrill killer who enjoyed the excitement of the kill. Berkowitz
is distinguished as a hedonistic and a visionary serial killer. An example for a power seeking
serial killer would be Ted Bundy who sought to control women by raping them, although rape is
characterized as a lustful act, it is also seen as a way as controlling by coercing, thus power
seeking. Both types include a rife amount of serial killers. There are many types of serial killers,
but they often share similar traits in their personality and character. Traits found in serial killers
are broken down into organized or disorganized. For example, an organized serial killer is known
to maintain angelic hygiene and practices diligent homemaking, whereas a disorganized serial
killer lacks in those areas. John Wayne Gacy, also known as the killer clown, is considered to be an
organized serial killer who

The Vision And Mission Statement To A Company Is As Important
The vision and mission statement to a company is as important as food and water to a person. It is
all about survival. Companies strive every day to satisfy customers, while making a a profit.
Therefore, management should not only write a mission and vision statement, but it should be one
that is communicated with clarity that reveals the company s present business and purpose as well
as its future. The purpose of this writing is to discuss the mission and vision statementsof Southwest

However, the transition of Delta to Atlanta, Georgia created a shift in my traditional travel plans.
Subsequently, I have visited with most of the other airlines in the Memphis area. One day while
googling for a cheap last minute flight, I found an interesting deal entitled wanna getaway on the
Southwest Airlines website. Therefore, for the last few years, I have traveled with this airline.
A snapshot of Southwest s website is an understatement of the company s accomplishments. For
example, Thompson and Gamble (2010), revealed that Southwest Airlines lead the market for
domestic travel despite the profit losses from 1980 to 2009. Moreover, they share Southwest s
original marketing plans that superseded media ads. In 1971, this attention getting scheme was used
to hire ladies with the Raquel Welch look: the company hired long legend beauties with sparkling
personalities, dressed in hot pants and white boots. Their marketing strategies changed drastically
from 1970 to 1973, which was remarkable for that season. However, technology, Facebook, Twitter
and the internet allow society to scrutinize websites which include a vision and mission statements.
Southwest s vision statement is broad and generic, while there are some positives, there are some
shortcomings as well. It lacks a clear path as to the company s future; all airlines vision is to move

How Does Rosemary I Pecola Contribute To The Alienation Of...
Those who judge character through beauty are blind. Toni Morrison s The Bluest Eye determines
how the individuals are alienated from their society through physical appearances. Throughout The
Bluest Eye, the factors that determine, contribute, and provide an escape from, segregation are
discussed. This novel emphasizes the unfortunate life of protagonist Pecola Breedlove by exhibiting
her class conflict, mental state, physical attractiveness, and much more. Pecola is a subject to
characteristics of society that were responsible for classifying her as an other.
Entities within this society are prone to being ostracized by uncontrolled external factors. Black
individuals are treated poorly due to their color of skin being considered a degradation; meanwhile
the whites are worshiped as though they portray mere perfection Rosemary Villanucci. Rosemary ...

Ugly, dirty both words with the intention of nothing more than an attack are the primary
characteristics members of society see within her. Being forcefully raped by her father and
having a still birth from it as well as being physically unattractive are circumstances that were the
ball and chain around Pecola s ankle that enabled her to sink in the ocean of hatred. The whites
or the leaders within society also bring her down to a level of pity by excessively making cruel
comments towards both her uncontrolled circumstances of being raped and unattractive Bay Boy
and the gang of boys that grouped around Pecola and insulted her is a prime example . When
people hear of the story of Pecola and her father Cholly s inhumane deed, they do not frown upon
her misfortune, but rather shake their heads in disgust at the bother of them she is not deemed to be

Andrei Rublev During The Renaissance
One notable painter during the Renaissance era who did not live in Italy was Russian Orthodox
artist Andrei Rublev, born in the 1370s and died in 1430 (Ross 131). Though he was born in the
medieval era, his work was truly Renaissance era. There is very little known about the life of
Andrei Rublev with his exact birth location and date unknown, it is very likely he lived near
Moscow at the Trinity St. Sergius Lavra which is near Moscow (131). The first mention of Rublev
is in 1405 when he created frescos and icons for the Cathedral of Annunciation (131). His name was
on the last of the list of masters that created these masterpieces. It is believed that he was trained

The Harder They Come Essay
The Harder They Come has gained international recognition for its depiction of the Jamaican
society post independence. It can be described as one of the masterpieces of Perry Henzell who
released the film in 1972 (Ceccato 2006). The Harder They Come can be described as
revolutionary, as it sought to remove many of the clichГ©s that existed about Jamaica. Thoughts
regarding the social, political, cultural and economic situation of the country were eroded by the
display of the Jamaican reality through the film. Some years later Michael Thelwell was asked to
novelize The Harder They Come. After an internal battle with himself he finally gave in to the
request and the film The Harder They Come was produced in the form of print in the year 1980...

This, therefore, alludes to the idea that based on the agendas of the author and the director

mind, Thelwell constructed the history and background to Ivanhoe Martin that was actually
lacking in Henzell s film and gives us a better understanding of the heroism displayed by Ivan or
Rhygin. It is arguable to some extent that novels are better than films due to the level of freedom
that print allows. Furthermore, Henzell was unable to provide the details of Ivan s life in the

Should Cloning Be Allowed In The United States
I do not think that cloning should not be allowed in the United States let alone in the rest of the
world. It can be done on people and animals after they are dead. People think that cloning will
ease the pain of the dead when the clone is not the same person. The person or animal is gone
and the clone is not going to ease the pain. You just have to deal with the pain and you will
slowly get through it cloning will never get rid of it. Cloning has never been the answer if you

happening and the clone could come out wrong. The clone could have something wrong that it
could die and kill the person it was cloned after. The people of the world think that a kid

How Racial Profiling Led to the Death of Trayvon Martin
Racial Profiling
As I walk to the store to pick up snacks for the next half of the super bowl, I am trying to make it
quick. I finally arrive at the store and quickly get my two favorite items, skittles and an ice tea.
Thinking to myself that this is all I need, not knowing that it would be my last meal. On the walk
back home, I have a feeling that I am being followed. I speed up. I turn around to find that a
grown Hispanic man, mid age, and heavily built is in fact, following me. In my head, I just want
to make it home safely. Every move I make, he makes the same moves. Finally I turn around, quite
nervous, to see if there was a problem. Next thing I know, we are on the ground fighting. Here I

A person may not be a threat to society, but just because a citizen or officer of the law felt like
they were does that make it okay to take matters in their own hands? Law enforcement has a job to
protect, if their racial profiling judgment is in fact wrong, they can lose trust and creditability.
Through there may have been cases were racial profiling has worked, due to luck; the cases in
which they have been wrong have ended in devastating ways. Racial profiling continues to be a
prevalent and egregious form of discrimination in the United States.
Racial profiling is discrimination, and discrimination is wrong. Discrimination taints the entire
criminal justice system. Racial profiling is nothing but public stereotyping. Therese extreme
tactics make the justice system look bad in cases which their racial profiling was incorrect. It
publicly puts all races in once category, bad or good. Discrimination has being going on for years
and years in history. African Americans are one group of people who have worked so hard not to
be discriminated against, and with racial profiling they are constantly being brought back down to
the Jim Crow Era. When will it ever stop?
Racial profiling does not work and it is used for the wrong reason. History shows that racial
profiling have been going on for years, and in most cases they are false. In 2006, Sean Bell, a 23

Tim Burton, Style Analysis
Tim Burton Style Analysis Film Essay
By John Visgaitis
Period 6 7
The well respected and established director Tim Burton has always been credited for the
uniqueness of his many films. In one of his most popular movies, Edward Scissorhands, he reveals
his true potential as a filmmaker and a modern allegorical poet. Within Edward Scissorhands and
many more of his works, Burton uses a wide variety of stylistic techniques, including setting, point
of view, and motifs. In Edward Scissorhands, Tim Burton uses the simple technique of setting in a
way that some would call genius. The setting of the dark manor of the inventor and now Edward
can be ironically connected to character and uniqueness. In comparison, the urbanized and ... Show

Tim Burton has a unique spin on the traditional point of view concept that some may say makes
him one of a kind. The motifs that Tim Burton uses are the icing on the cake of his success. This
use of motifs of all types is regarded as masterful in the film industry. Though there are many
recorded motifs that Burton uses, one of the most important in Edward Scissorhands would be
conformity vs individuality. This motif comes into play with Edward s first appearance. When
Peggy first encounters him, there is a sort of irony because she sees that he is a loner, therefore she
thinks he is unhappy. But, as the story unfolds we see that it is Peggy and the other conformists that
are actually unhappy. The same motif of conformity vs. individuality was used in Charlie and The
Chocolate Factory. Willy Wonka is a similar character to Edward not just because he was
portrayed by the same actor, but also because he chooses to set himself apart from the
mainstream to follow what he considers his legacy. Like Edward, Willy Wonka does not conform
to contemporary ideology. These characters are just examples of how Tim Burton uses the same
motifs in his movies. The way Tim Burton uses the techniques of setting, point of view, and motifs
throughout his movies, gives his works a certain similar feeling or mysterious mood. As a film
maker, Tim Burton seems to break some rules, such as the rule of using only one point of view
without clear transitioning. The radical

According to Jews in Israel the biggest long term problem that their country is facing is that they
were more likely to cite economic concerns (such as Israel s high cost of living, or a shortage of
affordable housing in Tel Aviv and other cities) as they were to mention military or national
security issues (such as terror attacks or Iran s nuclear program). This belief that Israel s biggest
problem is the economy is a belief between Jews in Israel, however American Jews have a
completely different perspective into Israel s long term problem. When American Jews were
asked what the long term problem, fully two thirds cited a military or security issue, and hardly
any (1%) mentioned economic difficulties. What this shows is a separation in how American
Jews and Israeli Jews view the government, or American Jews do not know the struggle that the
Jews are facing in Israel. Another problem that American and Israel Jews disagree on is the range
of political issues concerning the State of Israel and the peace process. While Israeli Jews are
skeptical that Israel and an independent Palestinian state can peacefully coexist, most American
Jews are optimistic that a two state solution is possible. These two different perspectives is
something that is eroding and segregating the Jewish people, it is two different societies that each
one reside in and it makes it very difficult

The Symbolism Of The Boston Massacre
On the night of March 5th 1770, chaos broke out into the streets Boston. Colonists went to King
Street, weapons in hand and ready to fight. Soldiers stood by the Customs House, Bayonets at
ready. Colonists went against British soldiers on King Street, creating more unrest between Britain
and the Colonies. The Stamp Act, the Sugar Act, and many more laws and taxes from Britain made
colonists upset. Many people, like the Sons of Liberty, wanted to break away from Britain and be
independent. All of the tension between Britain and the Colonies led to the Boston Massacre. A
popular myth about the BostonMassacre was it was one sided, soldiers overpowered helpless
colonists. In reality, colonists played a large role against soldiers during the Boston Massacre.
Colonists not fighting back was perpetuated by Paul Revere s engraving, The Bloody Massacre
in King Street . The engraving can be considered propaganda of the Sons of Liberty, used to push
their ideologies. Colonists in the Boston Massacre fought against soldiers, they weren t as
helpless as people were led to believe. Theodore Bliss, a man who was there that night, reported, I
saw people throw snowballs... [and] a stick about 2 feet long strike a soldier upon the right. (Doc
3). This quote proves the claim because it shows people were throwing things and even hitting
soldiers with sticks to hurt them, not being pushed back and being helpless. Another man, Benjamin
Burdick was also at the Boston Massacre, arriving at 9pm,

Pros And Cons Of Protein Supplements
Pumped on protein: Can a shake ever be as good as a plate of food? by Ann Robinson was posted
on TheGaurdian.com on Wednesday, the first of February of this year. In the article, there is an
obvious controversy presented directly in the title. Can a shake ever be as good as a plate of
food? The article states that there has been a rise in interest of these protein shakes in recent years,
even sharing a statistic that shows that within the last three months at least 42% of males between
the ages of 16 and 24 had consumed some form of protein supplement. With such a statistic one
would come to believe that these protein supplements must have some sort of special formula
within that makes them so popular. But with any sort of opinionated article there are going to be
those who agree, and those who disagree that a protein supplement could be just as nutritious as a
well rounded meal. Some stakeholders who would likely say that protein shakes are beneficial are
the supplement companies, bodybuilders, athletes, and really anyone who may be health focused in

convenient than trying to consume all whole foods. Others who benefit from the consumption of
protein shakes are people who struggle with getting the recommended 0.75g of protein per

Day Camp Reflection Paper
Observation This summer I worked at Camp Cory as a Day Camp Coordinator. This experience
came with many difficulties, one of the positives was working with counselors from other
countries, including Spain, England, Brazil, Colombia, and Scotland. In my opinion, some of
my best co counselors were the international counselors. During the eight weeks I was there, I
worked with four international co counselors to facilitate a day camp group and worked closely
with several others. Working with counselors from other countries, we shared our different
values and learned about each other cultures. Even though we were from different backgrounds,
we grew together, learn to work together despite our differences and became a family together.
There were a few challenges that had to be worked through, one being a language barrier or in
many cases an accent barrier. For some of the international workers, English was not their first
language, or if it was, they had an accent that was difficult to understand. The language and accent
barrier created miscommunication and funny conversations. There are many examples that I
could write about, however my favorite and the one that impacted me the most has to be from
week eight. I was working on inventorying the fused beads or the iron beads, with one of the
international works from Brazil. We were counting the peg board or the thing that beads go on and
then you iron, anyways we came to one that shaped like a dolphin and we got into a

Testimony Death Of A Guatemalan Village By Victor Montejo
In, Testimony: Death of a Guatemalan Village, Victor Montejo describes events surrounding the
military rГ©gimes occurring throughout Guatemala. The book itself is an eyewitness account
detailing one instance of violence between the indigenous peoples village s civil patrol and the
army. This occurrence leads to the execution and imprisonment of many villagers. Even though the
book is mainly a testimony by one person, in which he discusses the personal conflicts and struggle
between himself and the army, the account is structured around the Guatemalan civil warand the
conflict between the government and civilians. The Guatemalan Civil War occurred between the
years 1960 to 1996. It was a battle between the government of Guatemalaand... Show more content

The army also rob and burn down parts of the village. In one case, a young man who was part of
the patrols is shot and as he laid dying, reveals that the uniform worn (in that particular day) by
the army was similar to the ones the guerrillas would wear, except that the guerrillas didn t cause
any harm as they walk through the village. This has a lot to say about how the civilians saw the
government s military, and how they saw their repressive state; being something they had to do
without question due to fear. Taking a look at the testimony alone, we can also see how society
was effected. Out of Montejo s brief background detailing the failures of the presidents and the
absolute repression faced by the civilians, we can conclude that the governments force to keep
the guerillas unsuccessful was limited and pushed society into rebellions. In other words, as the
army continued to torture and persecute the innocent, many found it necessary to fall into the
hands of the guerrillas in order to stamp out their oppression. Maria Lupe s account is similar to
Montejos. She describes her hardships as a house wife, working on a plantation of a rich land
owner. Her husband worked for 50 cents per day, and her payment was in food. She mentions

Robotic Prosthetics Vs. Real Limbs
We are all so used to using our limbs, most of us wouldn t know what to do without them.
However, some people, because of accidents or sickness, have lost theirs. Through the use of
prosthetics, they can have some of that use back, though it still can t compare to a real limb. But,
recent advancements in robotic prostheticsand a steady increase in capabilities show that
prosthetics may eventually be replaced with robotics, and may become just as good as or better
than real limbs.
While robotic prosthetics are a recent development, prosthetics have been around for a long time.
In the Funk Wagnalls New World Encyclopedia, It gives a short history of prosthetics. They were

Prosthetics require pre programed movements and take practice to be able to use right, although
connecting prosthetics right into our nervous systems could fix this problem(Atzori, Manfredo).
There are also only a few areas on prosthetic limbs right now that can feel. Scientists have been
experimenting with synthetic skin that can feel temperature, to improve senses, but this hasn t been
used on limbs yet. Robotic prosthetics are nowhere near perfect, but advancements like these show
progress toward making this the future of prosthetic limbs.
Robotic prosthetics are in use now, although they aren t nearly as advanced as some of the ones
just mentioned. Some amputees have them, and they are able to perform basic tasks like
walking and picking things up. However, movements are still limited and the lack of senses
prevents the kind of precision our own limbs provide. They are also very expensive so most
people don t have access to them. An average robotic leg is around one hundred thousand dollars,
and may not even be very versatile. Many don t allow much movement, and often are not
waterproof. They are a good start, but have much to

Cliches Overdone Research Paper
CLICHГ©
ClichГ©s are sometimes overdone. They are phrases that had an important meaning at one time.
They generally are not effective and should be avoided. Example of clichГ©s would be The grass
is always greener on the other side. (thoughtcatalog.com) This can be a barrier when it underserves
the importance of a message being conveyed.
JARGON
Jargon is generally found in a work atmosphere. It can ruin the message to the receiver, if the
receiver is not familiar with the speaker s work practice. An example of this would be police
officers and fire fighters who use 10 Codes. The ten codes do not match between police and fire. 10

This type of language is generally seen in a negative light by today s modern society. It should be
avoided at all costs. An example of this type of language would be highlighting a negative phrase
that is based on gender, orientation, religion, or ethnicity.
EUPHEMISMS
Euphemisms are created to avoid sexist and racist language or to soften an expression. When
applied in the form of avoiding sexism and racism, It can still be demeaning and should be
avoided. It has no time or place for the work environment. The person saying it, is trying to avoid
the more sinister aspect of this type of language. When trying to soften the tone of an expression,
it can be used to politely describe the passing of a loved one. An example of this would be saying
that someone passed away vs died.
DOUBLESPEAK
Doublespeak is commonly found in politicians and attorneys. It is an attempt to mislead the
receiver by saying one thing but really meaning another. It can also be used as a way to not be
fully honest. This is generally seen as hiding or misconstruing the facts of what is really
happening. An example of this would be when a politician says that they will not support and new
tax increases and then raise small fees for waste and water. They can walk away with a clean
conscious and say that they voted for a tax

Verona Monologue
Yesterday, at approximately 9am, the streets of Verona faced its third civil brawl from two feuding
families: the Capulets and Montagues. Several members from both the Capulet and Montague
household have once again compromised the peace of Verona. What started as a little quarrel
between both houses soon escalated into a full blown battle comprising not only of the
aforementioned households, but also many of the civilians living in Verona. Many were later found
dead or severely injured. What actually started the fight remained unresolved for a long period of
time due to the contrasting statements that were given from both the Capulets and Montagues.
However, once the initial shock of yet another brawl was over, many witnesses have approached the
authorities with valid information. It appears that the fight began when Sampson, a servant of the
Capulet household, provocatively bit his thumb at a group composed of members of the Montague

U.S congress signed into law the U.S Patriot Act. This legislation extends the power of the
government by strengthening its oversight authority over the nation, claiming war on terrorism and
protection of national security against any potential threats. As an American citizen, I agree with
some of the terms and measures adopted under the Patriot Act in which the government needs to

South China Sea Between The People s Republic Of China Essay
INTRODUCTION
The ongoing dispute in the South China Sea between the People s Republic of China (PRC), and
the various littoral states (Vietnam, Malaysia, Brunei, and the Philippines) has been a topic of
intense debate and observation in the international community. While each of the littoral states
attempts to enforce and control the 200 nautical mile Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) allotted to
them by the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS), the PRC is claiming
much of the South China Sea for itself roughly 90 percent on the basis of a Kuomintang map from
1947 (Fensom, 2016). This nine dash line extends well beyond the 200 nm limit and into the EEZ
s of the respective littoral states. These claims include the Paracel Islands, which the PRC clashed
with Vietnam over in the 1970s; Scarborough Shoal, a coral atoll and lagoon west of the
Philippines; and the Spratly Islands, a large collection of small, uninhabited islands, reefs, and
sandbars on the southern edge of the South China Sea. Additionally, the PRC claims EEZs on its
occupied features, despite the Permanent Court of Arbitration s (PCA) ruling that all the Spratly
Island features are rocks and therefore are not entitled to EEZs (Permanent Court of Arbitration,
2016). Chinese control of these features would allow them to effectively control the entire South
China Sea. A third of all global maritime trade over 5 trillion dollars annually passes through this
region, along with over 60% of Japan s

Apart from these classic hallmarks, increasing evidence has demonstrated uncontrolled glial
activation and neuroinflammation in AD brain may contribute independently to neural
dysfunction and cell death (Akiyama et al., 2000; Wyss Coray and Mucke, 2002). Robust
activation of microglia has been found in and around the area of amyloid plaques in the AD
brain, and reactive astrocytes have been shown to form a halo surrounding the amyloid plaques
(Itagaki et al., 1989; Ho et al., 2005). Additionally, numerous proinflammatory factors have been
reported to be elevated in both patients with AD and transgenic animal models of AD (Griffin et
al., 1989; Akiyama et al., 2000; Ruan et al., 2009). Whether alleviation of neuroinflammation will
offer therapeutic benefit for AD remains unclear. Epidemiological studies show a possible
association between suppression of inflammation and reduced risk for AD (in t Veld et al., 2001;
Vlad et al., 2008). Therefore, drugs targeting neuroinflammation might provide benefits for the
prevention and treatment of this devastating disease. In the central nervous system, microglia and
astrocytes are the major type of glial cells, and activation of these cells has been involved in all
neurodegenerative diseases (Wyss Coray and Mucke, 2002). Nevertheless, the

Pop art is a 20th century art movement. Pop Art got its name because of its deiversary imagery
taken from popular culture. It first started to move away from Abstract Expressionism, which was
a really popular style in the 50 s because of its color, shape, forms, emotion, ideas etc. But many
young artists of that generation didn t like abstract expressionism. So It first began in the 1950 s in
Europe when the European avant garde started getting to approach diverse art after the world War
II. According to Metropolitan Museum The term Pop Artwas first used around 1954 to describe a
group of British artists . Later pop art was embraced by Americans. In 1960 first exhibition was

Black Lives Matter Controversy
In recent years, there has been a variety of events that have occurred which caused people to
realize the inequality that still happens in modern day society. Between gay marriage becoming
legal in 2015 and the recent presidential election, there have been many situations that have
caused a form of division between the people of the United States. A major group that has shed
some light on the inequality that occurs in modern day society is the Black Lives Matter
(BLM) movement. The BLM website states that this they label themselves as a group of 50+
organizations that have come together with a renewed purpose to spread a common vision and
agenda. Although many people view them as a great step toward furthering equality amongst all
people, there is a select group of people who disagree. The Black Lives matter website also states
that their common vision is to continue to move towards a world in which the full humanity and
dignity of all people is recognized. While doing this, BLM also intends to include other groups of
people who experience oppression. Such as the LBGTQ community, women, Muslims, people who
were previously or currently undocumented and much more. One of the major arguments of the
Black Lives Matter movement is to end the war on black people. There have been many situations

Election mapping is a very important tool when studying the history of our county. The history

American s opinions and views change over time and this can be proved through election mapping.
By looking at three elections: 1960, 1968, and 1980, it can be shown that changes in the political
landscape are the result of multiple factors impacting the American people. The first notable detail
is what did not change throughout these three elections. It would seem that the Deep South was
very firm on their political views. They consistently voted conservatively with the Democratic Party,

Gender Inequality Is A Prominent Issue Globally
Abigail Yeo Zhi Yi
311
Gender inequality is a prominent issue globally. Gender inequality is defined as unequal
treatment or perceptions of individuals based on their gender. Around the world, women are not
treated as equally as men. In 2015, only 50% of the world s working age women were in the labor
force, compared to 77% of working age men.
In this essay, I will be focusing on gender inequality in China and Japan and the causes and effects
of gender inequality in both countries, as well as whether gender inequality will be reduced with
education.
Francis Bacon once said, Knowledge is power. Education is important in reducing gender
inequality for a few main reasons. Firstly, education can empower women. Education, be it
vocational or academic, will give women the ability and skill to work and be useful in society. If a
woman is given vocational education, she will have skills that she can put to use in a job and will
be able to earn money. If a woman is given academic education, she will have greater knowledge
and even be able to take up higher ranking jobs. Secondly, education can change the mindsets of
people about gender inequality. This applies not only for women, but for men too. Education could
help people to realise that women should have the same rights as men and that gender inequality is
wrong. People who receive education could spread awareness about the importance of education for
women and fight for women s rights, narrowing the gender gap. Thirdly,

and there was still some puke on the kitchen floor. So after we got all cleaned up, i went to clean
it off the kitchen floor and both of the cat s were eating the puke and so i d pick them up and
move them then they would run right back and continue licking the puke. Not to long after i

carpet and i was so furious. Clear to say i did get paid more after

A Research Study On Pet Scans
Neuroscience has evolved in the last 20 years due to the development of new machines and
techniques which can measure the structure and the activity of the brain itself. This has allowed
cognitive neuroscientists to conduct more in depth research of the function of the brain. One
method used by neuroscientist s is Position Emission Tomography (PET). A PET scan measures the
bloodflow, brainmetabolism and glucose intake. During the procedure, the patient is given a
harmless dose of a radioactive substance, which is most likely 2 deoxyglucose (2 DG) which is
taken up by cells and accumulates in active neurons (Pinel, 2011). The radioactive element releases
positrons which are detected by the scan showing which parts of the brain are... Show more content

This limits cognitive neuroscientists in PET research as due to its invasive nature, they won t be
able to investigate the early development of brain function using this technique (Martin, 2013).
Another technique adopted by neuroscientists is the Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI). MRI
unlike PET measures the brain structure rather than the activity. It is measured by the waves
emitted from hydrogen atoms which are activated by the radio waves from the magnetic field
that is passed over the head during the procedure (Pinel, 2011). This is detected by the scanner
and is then altered into a structural image. MRI is a much more detailed scan compared to for
example, CT scans, as they provide clearer images of the brain which makes it easier for
neuroscientists to identify any abnormalities in brain structure. Furthermore, the technique has
relatively high spatial resolution and it can produce images in three dimensions which can give a
more advanced view into the brain (Martin, 2005). Moreover, MRI has led to the discovery of a
number of brain abnormalities in schizophrenia. For example, an MRI study found that compared
to healthy subjects, schizophrenic patients showed smaller volumes of grey matter in the temporal
lobe and smaller volumes of white matter in the frontal lobe. Schizophrenic patients also had a
higher volume of

Do You Ever Stop And Think About How Much Of Your Life Is...
Do you ever stop and think about how much of your life is actually yours? How many days of your
life do you get to choose what you get to do? Let s look at the average American s working life.
Most people start full time work at 22 years old and retire at 66. They work all day during the week
and usually are too tired after work to do much. So let s focus on the weekends. 2 days of the
weekend x 52 weeks a year, add on 10 days of vacation + 9 official government holidays. This
comes out to 123 days of your own life a year. If we multiply this by 44 years of working, this
equates to 5,412 days where you get to choose what you get to do. 5,412/365 days in a year is
approximately 15 years. 15 out of 44 years are yours. But if you re like most people, you probably
answer work emails on the weekends and are always connected. So that number of 15 years is
even lower. Does this sound good to anyone? (Pepper)
When I first read those numbers, it was a complete eye opener. It is absolutely unbelievable that
so much of our lives are spent away from our families and the things we love doing. What is
even more unbelievable is that spending so much time at work is unnecessary in the 21st century.
200 years ago when one had to farm all day to provide for their family, sure, a 10 hour workday
made sense. But now? We have the technology to do many of the menial tasks that used to burden
us. Not only is the long work week unnecessary, it is damaging to our health and our

Mexico made an alliance with the United States that would ultimately create a free trade zone stretching from Central America all the way to the North Pole. Rather than incorporating the movement of workers of North America into the alliance, the United States insisted on controlling its borders unilaterally in order to prevent the integration of its labor markets. This event lead to Congress passing the Immigration Reform and Control Act. Many of the immigrants entered America in search for work and a better life. As the immigration population increased, American citizens began to worry about the economy and their jobs, safety, and their health. The Porous Mexican Border The 700 mile long fence that was constructed along the United States Mexico border less than a month before the nation s population hit the 300 million mark, was not a coincidence. The United States Congress knew that there was a dramatic change in the face of the United States since the population hit 200 million in the year of 1967 and therefore voted to approve a bill, (HR 6061), that would limit immigration (Kesler and Bloemraad, 2010). Tim Burton has a unique spin on the traditional point of view concept that some may say makes him one of a kind. The motifs that Tim Burton uses are the icing on the cake of his success. This use of motifs of all types is regarded as masterful in the film industry. Though there are many recorded motifs that Burton uses, one of the most important in Edward Scissorhands would be conformity vs individuality. This motif comes into play with Edward s first appearance. When Peggy first encounters him, there is a sort of irony because she sees that he is a loner, therefore she thinks he is unhappy. But, as the story unfolds we see that it is Peggy and the other conformists that are actually unhappy. The same motif of conformity vs. individuality was used in Charlie and The Chocolate Factory. Willy Wonka is a similar character to Edward not just because he was portrayed by the same actor, but also because he chooses to set himself apart from the mainstream to follow what he considers his legacy. Like Edward, Willy Wonka does not conform to contemporary ideology. These characters are just examples of how Tim Burton uses the same motifs in his movies. The way Tim Burton uses the techniques of setting, point of view, and motifs throughout his movies, gives his works a certain similar feeling or mysterious mood. Working with counselors from other countries, we shared our different values and learned about each other cultures. Even though we were from different backgrounds, we grew together, learn to work together despite our differences and became a family together. There were a few challenges that had to be worked through, one being a language barrier or in many cases an accent barrier. For some of the international workers, English was not their first language, or if it was, they had an accent that was difficult to understand. The language and accent barrier created miscommunication and funny conversations. There are many examples that I could write about, however my favorite and the one that impacted me the most has to be from week eight. I was working on inventorying the fused beads or the iron beads, with one of the international works from Brazil. We were counting the peg board or the thing that beads go on and then you iron, anyways we came to one that shaped like a dolphin and we got into a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Testimony Death Of A Guatemalan Village By Victor Montejo In, Testimony: Death of a Guatemalan Village, Victor Montejo describes events surrounding the military rГ©gimes occurring throughout Guatemala. The book itself is an eyewitness account detailing one instance of violence between the indigenous peoples village s civil patrol and the army. This occurrence leads to the execution and imprisonment of many villagers. Even though the book is mainly a testimony by one person, in which he discusses the personal conflicts and struggle between himself and the army, the account is structured around the Guatemalan civil warand the conflict between the government and civilians. In one case, a young man who was part of the patrols is shot and as he laid dying, reveals that the uniform worn (in that particular day) by the army was similar to the ones the guerrillas would wear, except that the guerrillas didn t cause any harm as they walk through the village. This has a lot to say about how the civilians saw the government s military, and how they saw their repressive state; being something they had to do without question due to fear. Taking a look at the testimony alone, we can also see how society was effected. Out of Montejo s brief background detailing the failures of the presidents and the absolute repression faced by the civilians, we can conclude that the governments force to keep the guerillas unsuccessful was limited and pushed society into rebellions. In other words, as the army continued to torture and persecute the innocent, many found it necessary to fall into the hands of the guerrillas in order to stamp out their oppression. South China Sea Between The People s Republic Of China Essay INTRODUCTION The ongoing dispute in the South China Sea between the People s Republic of China (PRC), and the various littoral states (Vietnam, Malaysia, Brunei, and the Philippines) has been a topic of intense debate and observation in the international community. While each of the littoral states attempts to enforce and control the 200 nautical mile Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) allotted to them by the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS), the PRC is claiming much of the South China Sea for itself roughly 90 percent on the basis of a Kuomintang map from 1947 (Fensom, 2016). This nine dash line extends well beyond the 200 nm limit and into the EEZ s of the respective littoral states. These claims include the Paracel Islands, which the PRC clashed with Vietnam over in the 1970s; Scarborough Shoal, a coral atoll and lagoon west of the Philippines; and the Spratly Islands, a large collection of small, uninhabited islands, reefs, and sandbars on the southern edge of the South China Sea. Additionally, the PRC claims EEZs on its occupied features, despite the Permanent Court of Arbitration s (PCA) ruling that all the Spratly Island features are rocks and therefore are not entitled to EEZs (Permanent Court of Arbitration, 2016). Apart from these classic hallmarks, increasing evidence has demonstrated uncontrolled glial activation and neuroinflammation in AD brain may contribute independently to neural dysfunction and cell death (Akiyama et al., 2000; Wyss Coray and Mucke, 2002). Robust activation of microglia has been found in and around the area of amyloid plaques in the AD brain, and reactive astrocytes have been shown to form a halo surrounding the amyloid plaques (Itagaki et al., 1989; Ho et al., 2005). Additionally, numerous proinflammatory factors have been reported to be elevated in both patients with AD and transgenic animal models of AD (Griffin et al., 1989; Akiyama et al., 2000; Ruan et al., 2009). Whether alleviation of neuroinflammation will offer therapeutic benefit for AD remains unclear. Epidemiological studies show a possible association between suppression of inflammation and reduced risk for AD (in t Veld et al., 2001; Vlad et al., 2008). Therefore, drugs targeting neuroinflammation might provide benefits for the prevention and treatment of this devastating disease. • 38. Gender Inequality Is A Prominent Issue Globally Abigail Yeo Zhi Yi 311 Gender inequality is a prominent issue globally. Gender inequality is defined as unequal treatment or perceptions of individuals based on their gender. Around the world, women are not treated as equally as men. In 2015, only 50% of the world s working age women were in the labor force, compared to 77% of working age men. In this essay, I will be focusing on gender inequality in China and Japan and the causes and effects of gender inequality in both countries, as well as whether gender inequality will be reduced with education. Francis Bacon once said, Knowledge is power. Education is important in reducing gender inequality for a few main reasons. Firstly, education can empower women. Education, be it vocational or academic, will give women the ability and skill to work and be useful in society. If a woman is given vocational education, she will have skills that she can put to use in a job and will be able to earn money. If a woman is given academic education, she will have greater knowledge and even be able to take up higher ranking jobs. Secondly, education can change the mindsets of people about gender inequality. This applies not only for women, but for men too. Education could help people to realise that women should have the same rights as men and that gender inequality is wrong. People who receive education could spread awareness about the importance of education for women and fight for women s rights, narrowing the gender gap. Thirdly, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A Research Study On Pet Scans Neuroscience has evolved in the last 20 years due to the development of new machines and techniques which can measure the structure and the activity of the brain itself. This has allowed cognitive neuroscientists to conduct more in depth research of the function of the brain. One method used by neuroscientist s is Position Emission Tomography (PET). A PET scan measures the bloodflow, brainmetabolism and glucose intake. During the procedure, the patient is given a harmless dose of a radioactive substance, which is most likely 2 deoxyglucose (2 DG) which is taken up by cells and accumulates in active neurons (Pinel, 2011). This limits cognitive neuroscientists in PET research as due to its invasive nature, they won t be able to investigate the early development of brain function using this technique (Martin, 2013). Another technique adopted by neuroscientists is the Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI). MRI unlike PET measures the brain structure rather than the activity. It is measured by the waves emitted from hydrogen atoms which are activated by the radio waves from the magnetic field that is passed over the head during the procedure (Pinel, 2011). This is detected by the scanner and is then altered into a structural image. MRI is a much more detailed scan compared to for example, CT scans, as they provide clearer images of the brain which makes it easier for neuroscientists to identify any abnormalities in brain structure. Furthermore, the technique has relatively high spatial resolution and it can produce images in three dimensions which can give a more advanced view into the brain (Martin, 2005). Moreover, MRI has led to the discovery of a number of brain abnormalities in schizophrenia. How many days of your life do you get to choose what you get to do? Let s look at the average American s working life. Most people start full time work at 22 years old and retire at 66. They work all day during the week and usually are too tired after work to do much. So let s focus on the weekends. 2 days of the weekend x 52 weeks a year, add on 10 days of vacation + 9 official government holidays. This comes out to 123 days of your own life a year. If we multiply this by 44 years of working, this equates to 5,412 days where you get to choose what you get to do. 5,412/365 days in a year is approximately 15 years. 15 out of 44 years are yours.
