Political Participation For many American citizens, one of the great aspects of our culture is the
ability individuals have to take part in the political system. Whether it be voting for a new
president, participating in a protest or serving their jury duty, the American people can be certain
they will have an impact on the outcomes. Like numerous other people, there is a sense of pride
and importance to contribute to their community as well as be active members of society. These
activities are specifically called political participation. There are many forms of political
participation such as voting, protesting, town hall meetings, and jury duty.
Voting is commonly thought to be the single most important form of political participation. It is a
unique political act because it allows for the views of more people to be represented than any other
form of political participation. Every citizen over the age of eighteen is allowed one vote and must
register beforehand. Voter turnoutdepends on what type of election is occurring. There is a large
number of elections going on every year such as general elections, local elections, and statewide
offices. The presidential election is the one that has the best turnout but even then it is still not that
high. Many people see it as an individual s duty to their country to vote but this can also depend on
the region someone lives in. Some areas have an established respect for

Case Study Of Ritz Carlton
Being the Management consultant, advices and recommendations to the HR manager about how to
improve the current organisational culture, the different ways of how to improve the working
environment in order to motivate the employees and finally how to maintain and strengthen the
team loyalty are being provided.
TASK 1:
Organisational theory is the discipline which studies the structure and design of an organisation. It
analyses the actual structure of organisations and offers suggestions on how their effectiveness
could be improved.
Organisation structure is mainly about how the work of teams and individuals is being coordinated
within an organisation.

The advantages that the matrix structure will provide to Ritz Carlton is that there will be an
improved sense of commitment and dedication on behalf of employees to their jobs. This is an
opportunity for them to pursue skills which are bases on their interest. The employees will find this
more motivating and satisfying. Moreover the usage of resources is maximised as new products
and changes can be incorporated quickly by moving and regrouping the teams based on the
necessity.
However this type of structure is very hard to manage. This is the problem that Ritz Carlton might
be facing because the employees will be reporting to two managements with complimentary
responsibilities, so the need of proper coordination with a lot of meeting and excellent
interpersonal skills is required. A lot of effort from the management of Ritz is required in order to

The Best Selling Garment Of All Time
Marked the best selling garment of all time , denim has been a key participant in the evolution of
popular culture (Weber 2006). Originally making its public debut appearance within the mining
sectors in the mid 1800s, denim has become a product of globalization, as it gained both attention
and wear by billions (Foreman 2015). As various styles have evolved from denim, jeans have
deemed consistency throughout popular culture movements, withstanding the test of time. Not only
has denim broken barriers of age, class, and race, but the way in which jeans have been altered is a
direct product of popular culture, carried out via youth subcultures.
Why study something as acquisitive as denim when examining theories of popular culture,
particularly when trends come and go? British media theorist and sociologist Dick Hebdige is
distinguished for his popular culture studies, as he is labeled as the primary popular culture
reference maker. His research via sociological analysis has paved the way for proceeding theorists
to further explore the complexity of popular culture movements. Denim, however, is unique in the
sense that the evolution of this single garment has disrupted orthodox societal structures not only in
its country of origin, but also globally. Its invention and circulation epitomize the exchange and
intersection of cultural studies, allure a wide audience, and exemplify both political and economic
societal shifts.

The Song American Pie Is A Representation Of Loss During...
The song American Pie is a representation of loss during the transition into the 1970s. It was
written in 1971 by Don McLean and filled with his views on the state of society, political changes,
and cultural changes. The cultural changes and the loss of everything society knew produced the
lost generation that McLean was apart of. He demonstrated his disapproval of the direction of the
country by using music, faith, and war as examples of the changes and loss his generation faced.
Music heavily influences and creates a voice for the people of the time period it is written in and
also reflects the tone of the time period. Mclean s generation was impacted greatly by classic rock
and roll artists, such as Elvis Presley and Buddy Holly. Music direction and message portrayed the
prosperous nature of the 1950s and what life was like before the 1970s. The change in music
direction rooted from a tragedy that Mclean recognized with the verse, But February made me
shiver . In February 3, 1959 Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valensand J.P. Richardson died in a plane crash.
Theses musicians were Mclean s heroes and rock and roll legends. McLean considered this to be
the day the music died . After their deaths, music drastically changed. New musicians and styles
of music came into play. Buddy Holly and the other musicians before the Vietnam war sang
uplifting songs or songs with religious references. The verse A long long time ago, is referring to

Pursuit Of Happyness Themes
The movie The Pursuit of Happyness , is about a movie based on the life of Chris Gardner, who
was a salesman with a strong commitment to his family. As Gardner struggles to get ahead, he
faces countless adversities and found strength in knowing that he is going through this to make a
better life for his son. Although Gardner and his son became homeless, he had a desire to have a
better life. He also managed to find moments to help shape and mode his son s educationwith
teachable moments.
People handle diversity in several different ways. I found similarities in the way Gardner handled
his troubled life with his five year old son. Gardner found himself homeless a few times
throughout the movie. The first time was the hardest seeing that he did not see it truly coming. He
was staying at a motel dodging the manager until the manager sat his belongings outside the door
and changed the locks. As he stood, there is disbelief, dumb founded as to what to do. He pulled it

to watch TV shows that the owner deemed to tell the history of our country. Likewise, I needed
to put my son in a daycare that I knew was not where I wanted him to be, but it was the only
place I could afford at the time. This daycare was over crowded leaving the children unattended

The Pros And Cons Of Hate Crime
Crimes based off of hate is a crime that is caused based off a bias towards a person or race. These
crimes are called hate crimes and effect people all around of all ages and is a bais that is not
easily forgotten. There are laws specifically for this crime that one can be persecuted for just for
people who have disagreement about another person s religion and race , and why we need them
in our society. Hate crimes in my opinion are wrong and not needed in this world but can not be
forgotten because of history between people. If the history between the people of this world was
different then maybe these laws would be unnecessary but we need them to protect the good people
in the world who didn t ask to be different.
Laws are necessary part of a government. Government serves as system that can provide services

your race, ideas, sexual orientation and so forth. Now imagine a group of people or even
organization who are against you views. To a certain point to even hurt or murder your ideas. Like
any government laws are place to protect the people and that s what hate crime laws are. Too protect
citizens no matter their race and choices. But that doesn t seem to be the case always. In article by .

Character Analysis Of The Lottery By Mrs. Hutchinson
In the story, The Lottery , the characters are introduced in a carefree way. One character, Tessie
Hutchinson, was introduced as a woman who had forgotten an important day in her community and
was late to the event. Throughout The Lottery , Mrs. Hutchinson displays two main traits. First,
Mrs. Hutchinson displays being carefree. Mrs. Hutchinson was very calm when she walked up to
the crowd as she said, Clean forgot what day it was (Jackson). This shows how common an ordeal
the lotterywas in their way of life. The lottery did not seem to make anyone super nervous. This
shows how Mrs. Hutchinson developed as a character throughout the story. Mrs. Hutchinson was
also frightened. When Mr. Hutchinson unfolded his slip of paper Tessie began to scream of
unfairness (Jackson). Mrs. Hutchinson shows how frightened she is for her life because she
knows that she has a higher chance of dying once her husband is shown with the only special slip
of paper. Another character in The Lottery is Mr. Summers.Mr. Summers shows two main traits
while in the story as well. Mr. Summers is a married man, without children, that ...[has the] time and
energy to devote to civic activities , which makes him responsible in his town(Jackson). This is
important to the story because he is the proctor of an age old tradition that kills people. Mr.
Summers almost acts as if The Lottery is just like any other community event like a county fair.
He acts with no remorse because it is traditional to have the lottery. Mr. Summers also is
traditional. As he is setting up for the lottery to begin, he remembers and performs a lot of
rituals that occur during this event like using the same black drawing box or calling up each
male head of household or making up the family lists after everyone was gathered (Jackson). Mr.
Summers is knit picky about what happens as the day moves along because if anything goes
wrong, he is responsible and could possibly be disciplined for the mistake. If there was a mistake
the result could quite possibly be death because that is the whole purpose of the lottery, to rid the
community of a person, by stoning. Therefore, Mr. Summers would not stray from the traditional
ways of performing the lottery at all. The

“Explain and Concept of †Peak Oil’, and Outline the...
Explain and concept of peak oil , and outline the possible consequences of peak oil for the global
economy
The theory of peak oil refers to the inevitable peaking and consequent decline in the amount of oil
produced in any nation throughout the world. The term peak oil usually refers to the time when the
maximum rate of global petroleum extraction is reached after which a terminal decline in the rate
of production occurs (Heinberg, R. 2003, pg. 97 98). There is an ongoing debate about when peak
oil will occur; some economists deem it to be decades away, while others believe it has come to
pass all ready (Strahan, P. 2007, pg. 202). As the world is so reliant on this finite resource it is a

As the price of oil continues to rise it will spur a great demand for alternate energy sources to be
discovered. Coal and liquefied gas a feasible substitutions for oil, however they can only be used
provisionally as they are both finite resources as well. The ever increasing price for oil has the
potential to mitigate global warming as the harmful emission from fossil fuel usage promotes
newer cleaner alternatives to be sourced. This is not the solution for climate change, however it
will aid in decelerating global warming for a period of time. Means of transportation would be
cut down too much simpler methods, such as walking or riding a bicycle. (Sharpe, S. amp;
Tranter, P. 2010 pg. 290). Both of these methods of transport needs exertion of energy and can
aid in improving ones fitness and a change to a healthier lifestyle. This is a step forward in
tackling the global obesity epidemic. With the decline in the number of personal motor vehicles on
the roads, urban areas can therefore be seen as not only environmentally friendly but child friendly
as well (Tranter, P. amp; Sharpe, S 2007).
It is evident that the global economy is extremely dependent on oil, and the concept of peak oil
will have a severe effect on civilization and the way in which our society functions. Food
production and transportation are a vital part of our economy and are taken for granted in today s
society. However, without oil it will see these areas

Developing Nation
Key Term and Why I Am Interested In It
I am interested in the term developing nation because it is a broad topic and several countries fall
under this term as well as a wide range of other subject matter. The issues surrounding a developing
nation are vastly different than those surrounding a developed nation. I am also interested in
learning more about the characteristics of a developing nation and the things that developed nations
are doing to assist those in developing countries. I am also interested in gaining an understanding of
the developing nations growth, particularly, in areas of output and trade and what roles are
developing nations playing in the world economy.
Explanation of Key Term
A developing nation is described as country that has not fully developed economically. Most
citizens of these countries are living below the poverty line and are generally considered to be poor.
Developing nations have more population growth than those in developed nations. Most developing
nations have lower per capita income than those in developed nations. Developing nations have
lower levels of human capita, particularly, as it relates to health and education. Those in developing
nations have a shorter life expectancy than those in developed nations. There tends to be a higher
student teacher ratio and often receive a lower quality of education. There is a predominant level of

settlers that were born from this cultural conflict. In spite of this, many people may not know about
the systematic and deliberate means employed by the U.S. government to permanently rid their

These native peoples, first mislabeled as Indians by an explorer named Christopher Columbus,
divided themselves into many different tribes, each with its own government, language, traditions
and religions. Europeans, who slowly poured into the Indian s land, did not respect the Indians
beliefs, interrupted their peaceful life and would do almost anything to get the land to them selves.
The settlers also believed the land that both the Indians and the settlers lived on was theirs to
themselves. They began to push the Native Americans off of their own land. Many of them fought
back to keep their homes, some succeeded, some didn t.
By the 1800 s most of the Native Americans signed a treaty with the European American
government. The results left the Native Americans on small pieces of land called reservations in
exchange for their land and peace. The European Americans promised that they would give the
Indians living on the reservations food, water, money and education for the children. Most of these
promises were not kept.
White man s schooling of the Native Americans helped cause the disintegration of the beliefs,

Essay about Music and Society
Music and Society
There is no disputing that society is influenced by its choices of entertainment. Some ways in which
people are influenced are positive, but others are harmful. In the society we live in, the harmful
ways always outnumber the positive. If we gravitated toward the positive forms of entertainment a
little more often than the negative, then our society would have fewer problems. Popular music has
a negative effect on society and endorses a lack of creativity. Most popular music today is driven
by violence and sex. These musicians put out albums that glorify violence and promote causal sex.

People hate the fact of the happening, not being with the popular crowd. Few teens try to develop
independent minds because that would cause them to be creative and different. That brings us to
another point that most popular music is neither unique nor creative. Just about all of the music
coming out now is generally the same. It lacks creativity because artists are just in it to make
money, not for the love of music. Society is force fed this bland music on a daily basis. Through
radio stations and the emergence of MTV, new hit songs come out every week and people digest
them, claiming to enjoy them just so that they appear to be versed on the latest on hit wonder
groups. Since the music is generally the same and really does not change that dramatically every
week, album after album is put out to fatten the wallets of wealthy producers. The more albums that
are put out, the more money is made, as consumers shell out millions every week for something
new to listen to, but are merely continuing to feed the frenzy of the popular music industry. Another
harm this entertainment brings to society is it gives the media an easy scapegoat. When some
atrocity gains national attention, the first thing that is thought of is music and entertainment. When
a young boy burnt down his house because he was watching Beavis and Butt Head, and they were
playing with fire, the show was blamed. How about we blame who are really at fault here the

The Ganges River Of India
The Ganges River in India is an important river system that provides water for personal use,
industry, and agriculture for well over half a million people. This river also serves a major role in
the region s cultural and religious practices. It is widely believed that this body of water is the
Earthly manifestation of the Hindugoddess Ganga. For thousands of years, people have believed
that Ganga can wash away a lifetime of sins and, therefore, no amount of pollution can harm her
(Conway). As a result of this belief, industrial, agricultural, and human waste are dumped into the
river on a daily basis.
Hindus also believe that bathing themselves in the water of the river will wash away all of their
sins and grant spiritual rewards such as deliverance from sin and attainment of nirvana (Das).
Hindus believe that to die on the banks of the Ganges is an assurance of heavenly bliss and will
grant emancipation from the eternal cycle of birth and death (Das). Due to this belief, millions
of people use the banks of the river for cremation and burial (BBC). Aside from religious
ceremonies, poor people who cannot afford to be cremated are wrapped in white muslin and
placed in the river (BBC). Following ceremonies, the ashes and dead bodies are dumped into the
river. These religious practices are believed to be a primary cause of the degraded water quality of
the Ganges River near Varanasi. If the quality of water continues to become even more degraded, a

Contracting Out Public Service Organization
Contracting out Public Service
Introduction
According to the Organisation for Economic Co operation and Development, many public agencies
in the recent years followed the contracting out trend (Organisation for Economic Co operation and
Development, 2009). Currently, the private sector performs activities and functions that the public
employee once executed. Some of the services that the government contracted include vehicle
towing, health services, police protection, and solid waste collection. In 1995, a survey that was
referred to the city managers of America s largest cities revealed that only three of the 66 cities that
responded to the investigation had not privatised any city services. Therefore, the problem not only
translates to administration but staffing concerns by many managers.
Contracting Out Government Functions and Services
Given the current international debates on state buildings and adherence to no harm principles, an
exploration of the pitfalls of contracting out state service is timely (Ya Ni Bretschneider, 2007). For
the most part, contracting out is a transitional strategy. External agencies usually execute the most
urgent functions while the state capacity takes them on over time. However, the risk of such
procedures is that they can erode the limited capacity and result in parallel systems of government
that can undermine the legitimacy of the state. As citizens view the vital services that non state
actors execute, the compact between them and

The Importance Of English As A Communication For Business...
Introduction
Last Night I was reading the newspaper while drinking some tea and eating a biscuit. The paper
really gave me insight into the tragic realities of the world. There are a plethora of countries that
don t have the opportunity to read Garfield because they cannot understand English. Due to this,
English should be the global lingua franca. It is assumed that wherever anyone goes in the world,
someone will speak some sort of English. It may be extremely choppy and broken but it is
English nonetheless. English is one of the most widely spoken languages in the world. Many
people speak it as a primary or secondary language. In fact, an estimated 1 billion people speak
English (PBS). There are two sides to having English as the lingua franca of the world. On one side,
there is easier communication for business as well as innovation. On the contrary, the influence of
English can destroy small languages and cultures.
Background History
The English language can be divided into three main periods which consists of Old, Middle and
Modern English. Old English was mainly composed of the Germanic languages of the Angles,
Jutes, and Saxons all mixed together. In fact, Old English resembles modern German more than
Modern English. The Germanic people added words from Latin into the English language. People
also put words into more regular order. During the Middle age of English, French was prevalent
because England was conquered by Normandy. In this time period,

on her way to her grandmother s house. Once Red Riding Hood gets to her grandmother s house
she becomes a victim of the wolf after seducing her to get into bed before she is gobbled up

What Is The Figurative Language In The Charge Of The Light...
Analysis of The Charge of the Light Brigade Imagine the horrors of war. That is something that
can be made more understandable when reading The Charge of the Light Brigade, a poem
written by Alfred, Lord Tennyson. Word choice, repetition, and figurative language are all
aspects of this poem that affect my understanding of the historical events. Word choice can
greatly impact how well a reader understands the text. Word choice affects the connotation,
imagery, and so on. The poet uses strong, reflexive words to describe the scenes. The poet called
war Hell. This shows that war is as bad as it can get. He says that the soldiers boldly rode into the

The Lifestyle Of The Amphibian
The lifestyle of the amphibian is very complex and fragile. Just the mere fact that amphibians are
biphasic causes them to run into a variety of problems. Since they deal with both an aquatic and
terrestrial environment, they tend to run into an increased amount of pollutants and environmental
changes. Pollution both on land and in water can affect water pHand other variables that can be very
harmful to an amphibians survival. Since amphibians can be used basically as biomarkers to the
environment, the study and resolution of this problem can aid in two conservation efforts. Not
only will we be able to increase amphibian populations but we also help make environments less
polluted. Healthy amphibians equal a healthy habitat for all. The reason why amphibians are
considered biomarkers is because they have a rather unique skin. It is thin and permeable
because most all amphibians use their skin for respiration. This also allows the skin to absorb and
excrete water. That means if the water is polluted or contains impurities, the amphibian will
absorb all these changes through their skin. This can make the animal very sick. It s even worse
for the larvae and eggs of the amphibians. Larval and neotenic amphibians are completely aquatic
and have less keratinized skin then most adult amphibians. This makes them more affected by
changes in water composition. Since amphibians don t lay shelled eggs, the embryos are directly
exposed with the water and all its

The Origins Of Christianity And Christianity
Christianity is one of the most common religions of the world and was founded in the early
stages of time as we know it. Christianity was formed by the power of one man, Jesus Christ,
whose life was unexplainably different from anyone else s of his time. The influences of his
character, beliefs, customs, and teachings, are the foundation of the religion today. Throughout time
and as more knowledge was gained and received, the customs of the religion changed and new
smaller groups broke free from tradition and formed themselves into their own organizations. Every
event that happened shaped the religion, but the messiah or better known as the Son of God, played
the most important role. JesusChrist born circa 6 B.C in Bethlehem which is the south city of
Jerusalem was born of Virgin Mary and Joseph, but as the author states, Christians have believed
that Jesus was born in Bethlehem. The details are fully explained in the rabbinic interpretation
which is provided in the Old Testament. (Fisher, 2014, 305) There is very little written about
Jesus s early life. But what is said in The Gospel of Luke (2:41 52) conveys that when Jesus was
12 years old, he had accompanied his parents on a pilgrimage to Jerusalem and they became
disunited. After a few days, he was found in a temple conversing affairs with some of Jerusalem s
elders. Throughout the New Testament, there are a few trace references of Jesus working as a
carpenter while he was a young adult. Moreover, at age 30

Heroes in Western Film
In the genre of western films, the hero plays a key role. Humanity portrays civilization overcoming
the hostile country (Miller 66). In many films the American civil war is over, and people have

role of the hero. A hero is an individual with exceptional skills and through his abilities is able to

become personally involved with creating a community that he wishes to continue to see flourish;

Wade Hatton, (Errol Flynn) in Dodge City, is a much more extroverted hero than Shane, and has
greater plans to reform the town than merely just driving out the criminal element. Hatton s entry
to the film is also much more grand. He is a soldier of fortune transplanted to the American
frontier. (Abel 18). This alone creates the illusion of Hatton being a much more romantic hero and
having greater plans than merely just wanting to build a community. He wishes to clean out the
wickedness and lawlessness that Dodge City has become. To do this, he introduces sweeping
reforms that not only remove the criminal element, but also set a moral tone for the community.
This establishes him as a community leader who is willing to do whatever is necessary to curb
the violence and death that has stricken the town. He even arrests his friend Rusty (Alan Hart) for
carrying a gun to prove that no one is above the law.
People respect Hatton for who he is and what he has done for the community, not necessarily for
who he is as a person. This fact sets him apart from Shane. Hatton s actions are dictated by his own
morals and beliefs, (the desire to make the community safe for women and children )

Frederick Douglass, An American Slave
Frederick Douglass is well known for many of his literary achievements. He is best known, now,
as a writer. As a writer, Frederick Douglass shined. As a speaker, he was the best. There was no
abolitionist, black or white, that was more for his speaking skills. (McFeely, 206) So impressive
were Frederick Douglass s oratorical and intellectual abilities that opponents refused to believe
that he had been a slave and alleged that he was a impostor brought up on the public by the
abolitionists. In reply, Douglass wrote Narrative Of The Life Of Frederick Douglass, An
American Slave (1845), which he revised in later years: in final form, it appeared in 1882 under the
title Life and Times Of Frederick Douglass. (Graves, 52 ) Frederick s oratory skills left the largest
impact on Civil War time period literature. Douglass s most significant autobiographical works
include: Narrative Of The Life Of Frederick Douglass, An American Slave: My Bondage And My
Freedom: and Life And Times Of Frederick Douglass. These three books are about the same
person, and share a similar message, but are written by Frederick at different times of his life,
looking at the past in different ways. In Narrative Of The Life Of Frederick Douglass, Douglass

How Does Shakespeare Use Similes In Romeo And Juliet
Often times, those who are short tempered can get themselves into a heap of trouble with their
actions. This is just the case for Mercutio in William Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet. Shakespeare
s use of similes, hyperboles, and foreshadowing to prove to the reader that Mercutio is short
tempered and will fight almost anyone for any reason.
The use of similes in act 3 scene 1 of Romeo and Juliet shows that the character Mercutio has a
short temper. In this scene Mercutio and Benvolio are out roaming the streets of Verona carrying
out a conversation; Mercutio then proceeds to discuss fighting and when he would fight
somebody. Mercutio tells his dear friend Benvolio thou art as hot a jack in thy mood this means
that Mercutio is calling himself hot headed and ready to fight. The use of this simile in the story
compares Mercutio to a hot jack or in other words calling himself hot headed. Another simile used
that helps prove this point is thy head is as full of quarrels as an egg is full of ... Show more content

In act 3 scene 1 Mercutio says thou wilt quarrel with a man that hath a hair more or hast less in
his beard than thou hast (3.1.18 19). The hyperbole means that Mercutio would fight with another
man for having more or less hair than he has which is an exaggeration. This line that Shakespeare
added proves that Mercutio has a short temper because he would fight someone for such a little
difference. Another hyperbole used that proves Mercutio s anger is thou hast quarreled with a man
for coughing in the street because he hath wakened thy dog (3.1.25 27). By saying this Mercutio
means that he would fight someone if he coughed and woke up his dog; a normal, sane man would
not fight because of something like this yet Mercutio says he would start a fight because of this.
Through the use of hyperboles Shakespeare has shown that Mercutio is short

Neo Classicism in France and the United States
The classical style of the ancient Athens, derived from Ancient Greece and Ancient Rome in the
15th century, has had a universal impact on many cultures during previous time periods. The
classical period reflected traditional forms focused on symmetry and elegance; it flourished during
the time of the Renaissance through artist such as Michelangelo, Raphael, and Leonardo De Vinci.
The artists main goal was to attain the absolute beauty in their art by showing emotion through
detail, almost through perfection. Some examples of well known classical arts during the
Renaissance were Belvedere Torso and the Medici Venus . In the 17th century the classical style
was revived, now called the neo classical style. It was born in Rome but its popularity flourished all
over Europe. The neo classical movement clashed with the age of Enlightment and continued
through the 19th century. The neo classical principles were based around the same characteristics
as the classical arts such as: balance, proportion, order, simplicity, clarity, and reason. It was
strongest in architect, sculpture, and decorative arts. The neo classical style continued to spread
throughout the world and became sought after in the 17th and 18th century in countries such as
France and The United States, and it influenced some of the greatest government buildings in
America.
Neoclassicism can be seen as a political movement as well as an artistic and cultural one.

Computer System has the ability to help Decision Making. However, Belton stated that Decision

due to the nature of binary system. Software engineer is required to apply strict logic when they

Fuzzy Logic becomes popular in programming in order to help computer system to solve more

science and culture have differing opinions. In this work, I will examine the diametrically opposing

Of course, this is not the politically correct position in this country where much popular opinion
has given rise to gender neutrality among other asinine ideas. There is a dichotomy between
biological and cultural perspectives of how human variation is viewed, especially apparent in
both race vs physical appearance and gender vs sex, which are often highly debated and
publicized topics in today s world. In the following paragraphs I will highlight a few of those
disagreements.
Homo Sapient evolution is still a highly debated topic which abounds with misinformation
leading to relatively intelligent individuals who still try to deny that evolution is how we as a
species came to be. However, it has stood the test of time as a scientifically supported theory and
its evidence grows on a regular basis due in large part to the recent breakthroughs in DNA
research and the complete mapping of the human genome. Even though science has shown all
humans share a recent common ancestor, prejudiced beliefs about peoples race still influence
social interaction and have for most of recorded history. The Greeks and Barbarians are a classic

Peter s Apocalypse was very similar to Dante s Inferno in terms of being obvious what social
values were important to their society. Unlike Dante s Inferno, religion seems to be one of the
most important social values to hold in the society of St. Peter s Apocalypse. In the beginning
the Lord said, take care that no man deceives you and that you are not doubters and serve other
Gods (St. Peter s Apocalypse, p.1), He also goes on to say that martyrs that killed fake Christ
will be counted among the good and righteous martyrs. There were also sinners who involved
themselves in fornication, murderers, children were born before time, people that have

social values that seem important to this society is that one should not go against God, one

Henry describes A VPN as a group of computers (or discrete networks) networked together over a
public network namely, the internet (para 3, 2012). Basically, it s a private network created to
allow remote access through a public network. Most often you will see that employees on
airplanes or in a public place that will require and utilize these VPNs to access their business
resources for all kinds of information, but some people just use it as a means to use their network
without physically compromising the actual systems. A good VPN can provide many functions
such as access anywhere worldwide without dedicated lines, data security, remote access to
business resources and better employee production. For these VPNs to perform these functions
properly they are required to provide reliability by ensuring that the network does not break down

The Importance Of Baking Over Competing In The Olympics
Alena O Connor
Ms. Swanson
Communications Research
11 October. 2017
Baking Over Competing in the Olympics
Did you think that baking at home is completely different then competing in the Olympics? Well,
they actually aren t. To bake there is a lot of supplies you need to be successful. You need pans to
bake it, bowls to mix in, measuring cups to measure, and utensils to mix. Depending on what you re
making you can have three to one hundred ingredients. To make the food correctly you will also
need a recipe and know how to measure the ingredient precisely, to avoid a disaster. Bakingis a very
fun hobby because of all the different food you can bake. My favorite thing to make is banana bread
because it is so easy and simple. Even though the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Baking can also be done for money either as a job or for extra cash. Baking can be a career if you
become a professional or decide to go on a television show. Olympic competitors compete for
enjoyment as well as a job or to make money. Olympic sponsors pay the participants to wear their
logos as they compete. The Olympics are played on television for the enjoyment of the people
watching as well.
Competing in the Olympics is actually very alike to baking. They both can be done for personal
enjoyment and for others as well. The people who watch the Olympics do it for entertainment, and
when you bake the people who eat your food enjoy eating it. Both baking and competing in the
Olympics can be perfected after practice and experience.
Even though baking and competing in the Olympics are very similar they also have their
differences. People can do baking at a young age even in a small kitchen. To bake you don t need
to be trained and that is what makes baking so fun. When being in the Olympics you have to be
dedicated to your sport and train day and night. To compete in the Olympics you need to be a lot
more committed then baking, and use extreme physical

Rhetorical Devices In A More Perfect Union By Barack Obama
In the 2008 United States presidential election between Barack Obama vs John McCain, Obama
s pastor mentioned several controversial and offensive remarks. These statements brought
negative publicity for Obama because of his connection towards Reverend Jeremiah Wright, he
was Obama s aforementioned pastor. With his following severely decreasing because of this,
Obama had to find a way to regain his supporters by writing the powerful speech, A More Perfect
Union in which he uses a variety of rhetorical devices such as parallelism, a paradox, hyperbole,
and allusions to the past history of the United States. The use of these devices in this speech create a
strong argument of his intentions as president, his views on racism and the issues society... Show

There is a vast difference of cultures in American society and schools and Obama s goals with
using parallelism was to touch the hearts of every race with how the public schooling system is
failing these children. We want to talk about the crumbling schools that are stealing the future of
black children, and white children, and Asian children, and Hispanic children, and Native
American children. He not only acknowledges the races of these children but how poor the
school system is. The use of parallelism in this helps create a stronger argument because he
shows he s not oblivious to the variety of cultures in America which feeds into the belief that
America is home of the free and accepts anyone regardless of race, gender, and religious beliefs.
Not only does he use parallelism, he also uses a hyperbole by exaggerating the fact that students
futures are being stolen from them with poor education. This is a hyperbole because the public
schooling system isn t actually stealing the futures of these children, but he uses this rhetorical
strategy to amplify the emotion and relevance of the issues with the public school system. These
rhetorical strategies are effective because of the reaction he can get from the audience. He
reminds society of the issues in every day American life, and what he d wish to do to fix these
issues. He wishes to share the same common beliefs and desires of the common man by focusing
on the issues the common man faces day to day. Parallelism and hyperboles are strong strategies to
use because of the realization and emotions it gives the audience. Obama uses these strategies to
bring in the audience and build a strong relationship between him and the audience with this

Cognitive Behaviorism And Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
Chapter VIII.
Cognitive Behaviorism
Cognitive behaviorism has been highly embraced by popular culture and managed care, partly
because it offers quick fixes into behavioral problems and emotional distresses. Often times,
students are confused by the terminologies cognitive and cognitive behaviorism. To add to the
confusion, there is also cognitive therapy and cognitive behavioral therapy. These terms are
sometimes used interchangeably in literature, but there are slight differences. Cognitive therapy is
a specific type of therapy technique developed by Aaron Beck in the 1960s. Cognitive behavioral
therapy is a group of therapy techniques that share similar theoretical and practical elements in
counseling. Some of them are presented later in this chapter. Both Cognitive therapy and cognitive
behavioral therapy are grouped under the field of cognitive psychology or the pragmatic school of
thought, also called cognitive approach. All of which have their roots in behaviorism. Counselors
typically prefer the term cognitive behaviorism because change in cognition impacts change in
emotions and behaviors. It is this key element that therapists strive to reach with their patients. In
other words, simply changing the cognition without changing the behavior or emotions associated
with that cognition is futile.
1.Main Assumption: Individual s maladaptive emotions and behaviors are caused by their faulty
ways of thinking (cognitions).
2.Human Nature: Cognitive behaviorists believe

Essay on Foster Creek Post Office Case Study
Foster Creek Post Office Case Study
Background of Case
This case is about an experienced city postal carrier who has recently filled a position at a small
town post office and has difficulty adjusting to a different way of life. The central characters
include: Larry (the postmaster of Foster Creek), Jim (a senior carrier) and George (a senior carrier).
The Foster Creek Post Office exists in a small town and the typical way of life is carried through at
the post office. Harry has arrived at Foster from a fast paced big city post office. Upon his arrival
Harry is introduced to his new co workers where he gives a shy hello and immediately begins his
regular duties. Harry expresses no interest in becoming socially involved with Foster ... Show more

Harry was neither provided with a sufficient background of Foster Creek. He has been conditioned
by his previous big city job and is now experiencing a culture shock from his new environment. He
is unfamiliar with the small town pace of Foster Creek, which is evident by his early
completions of his routes and casing mail for other carriers. Harry needs to become accustomed
to Foster Creek s small town life and needs to be accepted by his co workers by either participating
in office activities such as the fund or by his co workers learning more about Harry.
Analysis of Senior Carriers (Jim and George)
Jim and George appear to have a significant impact on the operations of the Foster Creek Post
Office due to their number of years served and their involvement socially with the rest of the
office. They are fully content with their jobs and the daily routine of the post office and will
most likely be the most rebellious of any change. The greatest source of immediate conflict
exists between Harry and the senior carriers. Jim and George most likely view Harry as a
disruption to their daily easygoing routine that they have practiced for years. Harry s speed and
efficiency most likely threatens Jim and George into believing they will have to eventually meet
the same standards. Being set in their ways, Jim and George may also believe that the Foster
Creek Post Office is going out of its way to adjust to

Questions On Google File System
4Modern Distributed File System
4.1GFS (Google File System)
Google File System (GFS) as a proprietary file system was first published by ACM 2003 Article,
and was developed by Google for its own use. Its design goal was to provide efficient, reliable
access to a large amount of data using clusters of commodity hardware. Those cheap commodity
computers will bring the high failure rate of individual nodes and the subsequent data loss. So GFS
has some strategies to deal with the system failure. GFS also supports for high data throughputs,
even when it comes at the cost of latency.
In GFS, files are extremely rarely overwritten, or shrunk. When these files need to be modified, it
only adds append to those files.
A GFS cluster consists ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Only when all chunk servers send back acknowledge, the changes can be saved on the system. This
strategy guarantees the completion and atomicity of the operation.
Client application accesses the files by first querying the Master server for the locations of the
desired chunks; with these information the client can contact with the chunk servers directly for
further operations. But if the chunks are being operated on (i.e. there are outstanding leases exist),
the client cannot access those files at this time.
GFS is not implemented in the kernel of an operating system, but is instead provided as a user
space library.
4.2HDFS (Hadoop Distributed File System)
Hadoop Distributed File System (HDFS) is developed from GFS, so it has almost the same
architecture with GFS, master/slave architecture. HDFS is designed to hold large amount of data
(terabytes or even petabytes) and distributes the data in a cluster of connected computers. HDFS,
as the important part of Hadoop, usually handles those data with large size. It puts the large data
into small chunks, which is usually 64 megabytes, and stores three copies of each chunk into
different data nodes (chunk servers). By fragmenting the large data and distributing them into
different datanodes allow client application to read data from distributed files and perform
operations by using MapReduce. but is an open source system developed using GFS as a

The Scavenger Hunt
During this time and age you make that you can find anything within a quick Google search. Well
these students are given extremely hard questions in order to find hid in information online. In
order for students to participate in the scavenger hunt they have to miss classes. So is the scavenger
hunt worth it? Is there any point in the scavenger hunt? And what are its origins. The scavenger
hunt consisted of 260+ high students and 300+ middle schoolstudents in the Jefferson state. Every
school has at least 1 coach or mentor. In the state of Jefferson high schools and middle schools
compete in academic competition to find various questions that will take more than just a
Google search. An example of one of these questions is where they give you a picture of a
Spanish road that dates back to the 18th century, It leads to a building that inspired, but could not
be used for, the Final scene of a famous movie from the 1950s. Then it asks you what movie the
Spanish road is from. If you don t think it will be that hard you can go to this link and try it for

December. On December 14th students go to SOU to see whose answers are right. Also during this
time students can debate why there answer is right and sometimes even if the student s answer is
wrong they can get points with a successful debate. So why does is the scavenger hunt a thing. Well
according to Cayden Kaywood a student who participated in the scavenger hunt The scavenger hunt
gives students an opportunity to embrace their competitive spirit. But, is that all there is to it or is

True Colors Research Paper
True Colors Reflection Essay
Not everyone has a clear idea of their personality especially in their teen and early adult years.
The best way to find out is to ask yourself the right questions about yourself, which can be very
difficult. By taking the true colors assessment you get a clear answer of what color you are which is
basically your personality type. By doing the true colors assessment and asking the right
questions I have figured out what I want in my life, how I have changed since the beginning of
high school and what I want from my career. Being that my personality is the color blue, It has
helped me decide what I want in my life. I just want my life to be full of passion and
understanding. I plan to be very nurturing in my

Even if my plans do not go as I expect them to I hope my life to at least be full of love.
This assessment has made me realize how different I am now compared to the beginning of high
school, and how my result of blue describes me now almost perfectly . I have become, much
more sensitive and I value people a lot more than I used to. The beginning of my high school
years I was very cold and distant. I learned those characteristics will not get me anywhere I
wanted to be. I accepted that I do actually have emotions, sometimes too many, but once I
actually starting feeling them I became happier. Now that I am senior in high school I am at a
harmonious state with my personality. By finding my true color, I now know what I want from
my career. Since my personality result was blue, I will work best in something that causes me to
be social. I chose the pharmacy career because I also have the trait of being a caretaker and, what
better way to take care of people than by making sure they get the medicine they need to feel
better. The people I work with best would be encouraging which is what most people who work in
that career are. I

Form Of Political Participation Brooke Syer Professor Becker PSCI 180 46272 16 July 2017 Political Participation For many American citizens, one of the great aspects of our culture is the ability individuals have to take part in the political system. Whether it be voting for a new president, participating in a protest or serving their jury duty, the American people can be certain they will have an impact on the outcomes. Like numerous other people, there is a sense of pride and importance to contribute to their community as well as be active members of society. These activities are specifically called political participation. There are many forms of political participation such as voting, protesting, town hall meetings, and jury duty. Voting is commonly thought to be the single most important form of political participation. It is a unique political act because it allows for the views of more people to be represented than any other form of political participation. Every citizen over the age of eighteen is allowed one vote and must register beforehand. Voter turnoutdepends on what type of election is occurring. There is a large number of elections going on every year such as general elections, local elections, and statewide offices. The presidential election is the one that has the best turnout but even then it is still not that high. Many people see it as an individual s duty to their country to vote but this can also depend on the region someone lives in. Some areas have an established respect for ... • 5. The Best Selling Garment Of All Time Marked the best selling garment of all time , denim has been a key participant in the evolution of popular culture (Weber 2006). Originally making its public debut appearance within the mining sectors in the mid 1800s, denim has become a product of globalization, as it gained both attention and wear by billions (Foreman 2015). As various styles have evolved from denim, jeans have deemed consistency throughout popular culture movements, withstanding the test of time. Not only has denim broken barriers of age, class, and race, but the way in which jeans have been altered is a direct product of popular culture, carried out via youth subcultures. Why study something as acquisitive as denim when examining theories of popular culture, particularly when trends come and go? British media theorist and sociologist Dick Hebdige is distinguished for his popular culture studies, as he is labeled as the primary popular culture reference maker. His research via sociological analysis has paved the way for proceeding theorists to further explore the complexity of popular culture movements. Denim, however, is unique in the sense that the evolution of this single garment has disrupted orthodox societal structures not only in its country of origin, but also globally. It was written in 1971 by Don McLean and filled with his views on the state of society, political changes, and cultural changes. The cultural changes and the loss of everything society knew produced the lost generation that McLean was apart of. He demonstrated his disapproval of the direction of the country by using music, faith, and war as examples of the changes and loss his generation faced. Music heavily influences and creates a voice for the people of the time period it is written in and also reflects the tone of the time period. Mclean s generation was impacted greatly by classic rock and roll artists, such as Elvis Presley and Buddy Holly. Music direction and message portrayed the prosperous nature of the 1950s and what life was like before the 1970s. The change in music direction rooted from a tragedy that Mclean recognized with the verse, But February made me shiver . In February 3, 1959 Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valensand J.P. Richardson died in a plane crash. Theses musicians were Mclean s heroes and rock and roll legends. McLean considered this to be the day the music died . After their deaths, music drastically changed. Mr. Summers also is traditional. As he is setting up for the lottery to begin, he remembers and performs a lot of rituals that occur during this event like using the same black drawing box or calling up each male head of household or making up the family lists after everyone was gathered (Jackson). Mr. Summers is knit picky about what happens as the day moves along because if anything goes wrong, he is responsible and could possibly be disciplined for the mistake. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... People hate the fact of the happening, not being with the popular crowd. Few teens try to develop independent minds because that would cause them to be creative and different. That brings us to another point that most popular music is neither unique nor creative. Just about all of the music coming out now is generally the same. It lacks creativity because artists are just in it to make money, not for the love of music. Society is force fed this bland music on a daily basis. Through radio stations and the emergence of MTV, new hit songs come out every week and people digest them, claiming to enjoy them just so that they appear to be versed on the latest on hit wonder groups. Since the music is generally the same and really does not change that dramatically every week, album after album is put out to fatten the wallets of wealthy producers. The more albums that are put out, the more money is made, as consumers shell out millions every week for something new to listen to, but are merely continuing to feed the frenzy of the popular music industry. Another harm this entertainment brings to society is it gives the media an easy scapegoat. When some atrocity gains national attention, the first thing that is thought of is music and entertainment. • 19. The Ganges River Of India The Ganges River in India is an important river system that provides water for personal use, industry, and agriculture for well over half a million people. This river also serves a major role in the region s cultural and religious practices. It is widely believed that this body of water is the Earthly manifestation of the Hindugoddess Ganga. For thousands of years, people have believed that Ganga can wash away a lifetime of sins and, therefore, no amount of pollution can harm her (Conway). As a result of this belief, industrial, agricultural, and human waste are dumped into the river on a daily basis. Hindus also believe that bathing themselves in the water of the river will wash away all of their sins and grant spiritual rewards such as deliverance from sin and attainment of nirvana (Das). Hindus believe that to die on the banks of the Ganges is an assurance of heavenly bliss and will grant emancipation from the eternal cycle of birth and death (Das). Due to this belief, millions of people use the banks of the river for cremation and burial (BBC). Aside from religious ceremonies, poor people who cannot afford to be cremated are wrapped in white muslin and placed in the river (BBC). Following ceremonies, the ashes and dead bodies are dumped into the river. These religious practices are believed to be a primary cause of the degraded water quality of the Ganges River near Varanasi. Contracting Out Public Service Organization Contracting out Public Service Introduction According to the Organisation for Economic Co operation and Development, many public agencies in the recent years followed the contracting out trend (Organisation for Economic Co operation and Development, 2009). Currently, the private sector performs activities and functions that the public employee once executed. Some of the services that the government contracted include vehicle towing, health services, police protection, and solid waste collection. In 1995, a survey that was referred to the city managers of America s largest cities revealed that only three of the 66 cities that responded to the investigation had not privatised any city services. Therefore, the problem not only translates to administration but staffing concerns by many managers. Contracting Out Government Functions and Services Given the current international debates on state buildings and adherence to no harm principles, an exploration of the pitfalls of contracting out state service is timely (Ya Ni Bretschneider, 2007). For the most part, contracting out is a transitional strategy. External agencies usually execute the most urgent functions while the state capacity takes them on over time. However, the risk of such procedures is that they can erode the limited capacity and result in parallel systems of government that can undermine the legitimacy of the state. The paper really gave me insight into the tragic realities of the world. There are a plethora of countries that don t have the opportunity to read Garfield because they cannot understand English. Due to this, English should be the global lingua franca. It is assumed that wherever anyone goes in the world, someone will speak some sort of English. It may be extremely choppy and broken but it is English nonetheless. English is one of the most widely spoken languages in the world. Many people speak it as a primary or secondary language. In fact, an estimated 1 billion people speak English (PBS). There are two sides to having English as the lingua franca of the world. On one side, there is easier communication for business as well as innovation. On the contrary, the influence of English can destroy small languages and cultures. Background History The English language can be divided into three main periods which consists of Old, Middle and Modern English. Old English was mainly composed of the Germanic languages of the Angles, Jutes, and Saxons all mixed together. In fact, Old English resembles modern German more than Modern English. The Germanic people added words from Latin into the English language. People also put words into more regular order. Not only will we be able to increase amphibian populations but we also help make environments less polluted. Healthy amphibians equal a healthy habitat for all. The reason why amphibians are considered biomarkers is because they have a rather unique skin. It is thin and permeable because most all amphibians use their skin for respiration. This also allows the skin to absorb and excrete water. That means if the water is polluted or contains impurities, the amphibian will absorb all these changes through their skin. This can make the animal very sick. It s even worse for the larvae and eggs of the amphibians. Christianity was formed by the power of one man, Jesus Christ, whose life was unexplainably different from anyone else s of his time. The influences of his character, beliefs, customs, and teachings, are the foundation of the religion today. Throughout time and as more knowledge was gained and received, the customs of the religion changed and new smaller groups broke free from tradition and formed themselves into their own organizations. Every event that happened shaped the religion, but the messiah or better known as the Son of God, played the most important role. JesusChrist born circa 6 B.C in Bethlehem which is the south city of Jerusalem was born of Virgin Mary and Joseph, but as the author states, Christians have believed that Jesus was born in Bethlehem. The details are fully explained in the rabbinic interpretation which is provided in the Old Testament. (Fisher, 2014, 305) There is very little written about Jesus s early life. But what is said in The Gospel of Luke (2:41 52) conveys that when Jesus was 12 years old, he had accompanied his parents on a pilgrimage to Jerusalem and they became disunited. After a few days, he was found in a temple conversing affairs with some of Jerusalem s elders. This is just the case for Mercutio in William Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet. Shakespeare s use of similes, hyperboles, and foreshadowing to prove to the reader that Mercutio is short tempered and will fight almost anyone for any reason. The use of similes in act 3 scene 1 of Romeo and Juliet shows that the character Mercutio has a short temper. Peter s Apocalypse was very similar to Dante s Inferno in terms of being obvious what social values were important to their society. Unlike Dante s Inferno, religion seems to be one of the most important social values to hold in the society of St. Peter s Apocalypse. In the beginning the Lord said, take care that no man deceives you and that you are not doubters and serve other Gods (St. Peter s Apocalypse, p.1), He also goes on to say that martyrs that killed fake Christ will be counted among the good and righteous martyrs. There were also sinners who involved themselves in fornication, murderers, children were born before time, people that have corrupted the work of God, despised, cursed, and abandoned the commandments of God. Some social values that seem important to this society is that one should not go against God, one should not take a life, or bring a life into the world before God s will. In Dante s Inferno, betrayal was in Circle Nine and it was considered the worst crime of all similarly in St. Peter s Apocalypse persecutors and betrayers were tormented by a worm that would devour their entrails. Betrayal seems to be a social value important in both Dante s Inferno and in St. Peter s Apocalypse. Lying and talking bad about someone are also some social values that are upheld in this society. One should not defile their bodies, lend money on interest, and should not be influenced by the evils in the world. Respects for elders, especially towards the parents ... Modern Day Attacks Against Firewalls and Vpns Modern Day Attacks Against Firewalls and Virtual Private Networks Electronic technology is growing at a rapid rate; more devices are made mobile and wireless, but with those improvement and developments come flaws and malicious opportunities. Cyber attacks are on the rise and no system or device is immune. Many organizations employ multiple layers of firewalls but that doesn t completely eliminate the threat. Attacks against firewalls and virtual private networks or VPNs are constantly being exploited with new methods everyday, but they are yet another obstacle that a cyber criminal must overcome. First let s discuss what a firewall is and what a firewall is capable of doing. Firewall applications are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Unfortunately, many firewalls come with so many rules or policies that they can counteract the security desired and create loopholes for network threats or actually block traffic that is desired or requested by the user. These issues make it really important to understand how all rules and policies in the firewall work and how to apply them. Another tool often used for secure reasons and also as a reliable method to share information remotely is called a Virtual Private Networkor VPN. Henry describes A VPN as a group of computers (or discrete networks) networked together over a public network namely, the internet (para 3, 2012). Basically, it s a private network created to allow remote access through a public network. Most often you will see that employees on airplanes or in a public place that will require and utilize these VPNs to access their business resources for all kinds of information, but some people just use it as a means to use their network without physically compromising the actual systems. A good VPN can provide many functions such as access anywhere worldwide without dedicated lines, data security, remote access to business resources and better employee production. For these VPNs to perform these functions properly they are required to provide reliability by ensuring that the network does not break down before reaching its max capacity, scalability to ensure the ability to expand as business grows, and of ... Rhetorical Devices In A More Perfect Union By Barack Obama In the 2008 United States presidential election between Barack Obama vs John McCain, Obama s pastor mentioned several controversial and offensive remarks. These statements brought negative publicity for Obama because of his connection towards Reverend Jeremiah Wright, he was Obama s aforementioned pastor. With his following severely decreasing because of this, Obama had to find a way to regain his supporters by writing the powerful speech, A More Perfect Union in which he uses a variety of rhetorical devices such as parallelism, a paradox, hyperbole, and allusions to the past history of the United States. There is a vast difference of cultures in American society and schools and Obama s goals with using parallelism was to touch the hearts of every race with how the public schooling system is failing these children. We want to talk about the crumbling schools that are stealing the future of black children, and white children, and Asian children, and Hispanic children, and Native American children. He not only acknowledges the races of these children but how poor the school system is. The use of parallelism in this helps create a stronger argument because he shows he s not oblivious to the variety of cultures in America which feeds into the belief that America is home of the free and accepts anyone regardless of race, gender, and religious beliefs. Not only does he use parallelism, he also uses a hyperbole by exaggerating the fact that students futures are being stolen from them with poor education. This is a hyperbole because the public schooling system isn t actually stealing the futures of these children, but he uses this rhetorical strategy to amplify the emotion and relevance of the issues with the public school system. These rhetorical strategies are effective because of the reaction he can get from the audience. He reminds society of the issues in every day American life, and what he d wish to do to fix these issues. He wishes to share the same common beliefs and desires of the common man by focusing on the issues the common man faces day to day. Parallelism and hyperboles are strong strategies to use because of the realization and emotions it gives the audience. • 43. Cognitive Behaviorism And Cognitive Behavioral Therapy Chapter VIII. Cognitive Behaviorism Cognitive behaviorism has been highly embraced by popular culture and managed care, partly because it offers quick fixes into behavioral problems and emotional distresses. Often times, students are confused by the terminologies cognitive and cognitive behaviorism. To add to the confusion, there is also cognitive therapy and cognitive behavioral therapy. These terms are sometimes used interchangeably in literature, but there are slight differences. Cognitive therapy is a specific type of therapy technique developed by Aaron Beck in the 1960s. Cognitive behavioral therapy is a group of therapy techniques that share similar theoretical and practical elements in counseling. Some of them are presented later in this chapter. Both Cognitive therapy and cognitive behavioral therapy are grouped under the field of cognitive psychology or the pragmatic school of thought, also called cognitive approach. All of which have their roots in behaviorism. Counselors typically prefer the term cognitive behaviorism because change in cognition impacts change in emotions and behaviors. It is this key element that therapists strive to reach with their patients. In other words, simply changing the cognition without changing the behavior or emotions associated with that cognition is futile. 1.Main Assumption: Individual s maladaptive emotions and behaviors are caused by their faulty ways of thinking (cognitions). 2.Human Nature: Cognitive behaviorists believe ... The central characters include: Larry (the postmaster of Foster Creek), Jim (a senior carrier) and George (a senior carrier). The Foster Creek Post Office exists in a small town and the typical way of life is carried through at the post office. Harry has arrived at Foster from a fast paced big city post office. He has been conditioned by his previous big city job and is now experiencing a culture shock from his new environment. He is unfamiliar with the small town pace of Foster Creek, which is evident by his early completions of his routes and casing mail for other carriers. Harry needs to become accustomed to Foster Creek s small town life and needs to be accepted by his co workers by either participating in office activities such as the fund or by his co workers learning more about Harry. Analysis of Senior Carriers (Jim and George) Jim and George appear to have a significant impact on the operations of the Foster Creek Post Office due to their number of years served and their involvement socially with the rest of the office. They are fully content with their jobs and the daily routine of the post office and will most likely be the most rebellious of any change. The greatest source of immediate conflict exists between Harry and the senior carriers. Jim and George most likely view Harry as a disruption to their daily easygoing routine that they have practiced for years. Harry s speed and efficiency most likely threatens Jim and George into believing they will have to eventually meet the same standards. Being set in their ways, Jim and George may also believe that the Foster Creek Post Office is going out of its way to adjust to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Questions On Google File System 4Modern Distributed File System 4.1GFS (Google File System) Google File System (GFS) as a proprietary file system was first published by ACM 2003 Article, and was developed by Google for its own use. Its design goal was to provide efficient, reliable access to a large amount of data using clusters of commodity hardware. Those cheap commodity computers will bring the high failure rate of individual nodes and the subsequent data loss. So GFS has some strategies to deal with the system failure. GFS also supports for high data throughputs, even when it comes at the cost of latency. In GFS, files are extremely rarely overwritten, or shrunk. When these files need to be modified, it only adds append to those files. A GFS cluster consists ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Only when all chunk servers send back acknowledge, the changes can be saved on the system. This strategy guarantees the completion and atomicity of the operation. Client application accesses the files by first querying the Master server for the locations of the desired chunks; with these information the client can contact with the chunk servers directly for further operations. But if the chunks are being operated on (i.e. there are outstanding leases exist), the client cannot access those files at this time. GFS is not implemented in the kernel of an operating system, but is instead provided as a user space library. 4.2HDFS (Hadoop Distributed File System) Hadoop Distributed File System (HDFS) is developed from GFS, so it has almost the same architecture with GFS, master/slave architecture. HDFS is designed to hold large amount of data (terabytes or even petabytes) and distributes the data in a cluster of connected computers. HDFS, as the important part of Hadoop, usually handles those data with large size. It puts the large data into small chunks, which is usually 64 megabytes, and stores three copies of each chunk into different data nodes (chunk servers). By fragmenting the large data and distributing them into different datanodes allow client application to read data from distributed files and perform operations by using MapReduce. but is an open source system developed using GFS as a ...
