The Overall Growth And Development Of C.p
Introduction C.P. is a 14 year old male that this nursing student saw on January 19, 2016 who was
admitted to Renown Health s pediatric floor to determine the cause of his cyclical vomiting. C.P. has a
secondary diagnoses of autism spectrum disorder. In this paper, I will discuss the overall growth and
development of C.P. based on four developmental theorists and other children in his age range.
Overview of Growth and Development Growth generally refers to an increase in the physical size of a
whole or any of its parts or an increase in the number and size of cell. Development is generally
considered to be a continuous, orderly series of conditions leading to activities, new motives for
activities, and patterns of behavior (James, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
51). C.P. is fourteen years old, he is categorized in the adolescence stage and age grouping.
Parameters of growth provide information on how the child should normally grow. Data in the
determination of normal includes weight, height, and head circumference. It is suggested that these
should be measured at regular intervals throughout childhood to ensure the child is on track for normal
growth (James, et al, 2013, p. 51).
Factors influencing growth and development include genetics, environment, culture, nutrition, health
status, and family. Each factor contains information as to how the child s growth and development can
be affected (James, et al, 2013, pp. 52 54).
Developmental Theorists and Theories Freud s stages of psychosexual development. Freud believed
that early childhood experiences provide unconscious motivation for actions later in life (Freud,
1960). The basis of Freud s psychosexual theory is certain parts of the body assume psychological
significance as the focus of sexual energy throughout the development of the child (James, et al, 2013,
p. 57). Freud s work may help to explain normal behavior that parents may confuse with abnormal
behavior, and it also may provide a good foundation for sex education (James, et al, 2013, p. 57). The
stages of this theory include oral, anal, phallic, latency, and genital (James, et al, 2013, p. 57). Oral

Imperialism And Imperialism
Imperialism hurt the lives of the colonized people as new machinery boosted the growth of cash crops
and under cut the local textile industry, putting local people out of business and reducing the food
supply which lead to famine, resentment of religious repression and conversion lead to revolts such as
the Sepoy Mutiny, and racism towards the colonised people led to wage inequality which resulted in
unsafe working conditions as well as torture and mistreatment.
When British companies settled India, they brought new machinery that manufactured cheaper cloth,
which under cut the local textile industry and put local artisans out of business, as well as boosted the
farming of cotton, a cash crop, which reduced the food supply and lead to famine. Prior to British
colonization, the people of India were self sufficient. As they grew their own food and weaved their
own textiles, the agriculture and textile industries played a large role in people s lives. Most people s
primary occupation was farming, and they grew mostly food crops to provide for their villages. In
Britain, the textile industry was rapidly growing in the wake of the Industrial Revolution. European
countries competed for limited resources to fuel their growing economies, and sought new markets to
which they could sell their goods. When the British came to India, they were seeking a supplier of raw
materials. Looking to grow cash crops, crops that could be converted to cash quickly as they could be
exported and sold

Shoes In The House On Mango Street By Sandra Cisneros
In the novella, The House on Mango Street, by Sandra Cisneros, the symbol of shoes represents how
attractive you are and how you are portrayed by society. For example, It s Rachel who learns to walk
the best all strutted in those magic high heels. She teaches us to cross and uncross our legs, and to run
like a double dutch rope, and how to walk down to the corner so that the shoes talk back to you. (pg.
40). This quote shows how Esperanza and her friends want to act very mature and lady like, and how
the shoes play a huge role in this. Also, this is the start of Esperanza maturing, as we see a slight
change in attitude and her manners, which the shoes also had the effect on her to do so. Another piece
of evidence is, Everybody laughing

Managing Crude Oil Using Derivatives
MANAGING CRUDE OIL USING DERIVATIVES
The present price markers for crude oil are WTI, Brent and Dubai/Oman. The crude oil derivatives
contracts are traded on the New York Mercantile Exchange (NYMEX). The exchange acts as a
regulatory body and as a financial trading forum for all the parties interested in buying the options.
Members of the exchange carry out the trades themselves, or they act on behalf of the firms they
represent through an open outcry auction held in the trading room or the floor. The procedure begins
when a buyer calls an authorized commodity broker with an order to buy or sell futures or options
contract. This order is sent to the firm s agent who is on the trading floor. The prospects of more
profits increases for the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If the price of oil is tripled in a year then the company is able to purchase oil at the last years locked in
price, which is lower than the current price, which in turn helps the company to save a lot of money
(Grabianowski, 2009). But, if the price of oil falls then the company ends up paying more and loses
money.
There are different types of financial instruments available for companies and investors to hedge
against crude oil price volatility. These instruments can be traded financially without the tangible
physical delivery of crude oil and different instruments have different time periods. Some of the
hedging tools are Options, Futures and Swaps. But for this paper we will only focus on option
contracts for management of risk in crude oil trading.
OPTIONS
The modern day financial options market came into existence in 1973. It was known as the Chicago
Board Options Exchange. During the same year, Fisher Black and Myron Scholes invented a formula
to calculate the price of an option using specific variables. This formula was later called the Black
Scholes Pricing Model and it had a huge impact on investors as they became confident about the idea
of trading options. As of today there are thousands of option instruments (stocks, bonds and currency)
listed in the market and millions of them are traded every day.
Options offer extra flexibility to buyers for managing currency or price risk as they work like an
insurance policy. Call option and Put option

Cotton Gin s Contributions
1793 COTTON GIN PROMOTES SLAVERY! Disgraceful and distasteful! Disgraceful! Distasteful!
The south side has created a new invention, called the Cotton Gin.This invention allows the south to
separate seeds from cotton, to make clothes and other items. Made by the traitor himself, Eli Whitney.
This invention promotes the once almost abolished idea of slavery. This invention traps poor innocent
slaves in a hot, uncared for, factory. Just so the south can make a quick buck that they most likely won

things at just a raise of a finger. They almost aren t human anymore. They ve enslaved too many

Differences Between And Then There Were None And A Wrinkle...
In the movie productions of And Then There Were None and A Wrinkle In Time, the directors did not
follow the original storyline of the book. There are many differences between the books and the
movies, but there is also similarities. While most of the movie follows the storyline, there are some
changes made to the storyline. These changes made in the movie impacted the storyline a lot.
In A Wrinkle In Time, one of the biggest differences from the book is the plot sequencing in the
movie. The movie first starts with Meg at school daydreaming about her father and her talking with
each other on their stargazing rock, where in the book it starts with Meg talking about the
thunderstorm. Another difference is, in the middle of the movie, Meg meets ... Show more content on

herself. The real killer, Wargrave, puts a confession letter in a bottle and throws it into the sea. He then
takes a pill that kills him. In the movie, none of this happens. Vera and Lombard become lovers and
trust that each other are not the killer, but to follow the nursery rhyme Lombard asks Vera to fire the
gun and he will fall to his knees to trick the killer. When she goes in the house, her room is set up for
her to hang herself and Wargrave is sitting there. Lombard comes in to hear Wargrave confessing to
the killing. Wargrave takes the pill that kills him to leave Vera and Lombard there to look like the
killers. The driver of the boat, Fred Narracott, comes in and asks where the other guests are. Vera and
Lombard tell Narracott to call for them, while they run off. The movie then ends, but from there you
could predict that they took the boat and went off. That was the biggest difference made to the movie,
but a similarity is that when each guest died another Indian figurine went

My Antonia American Dream
In the novel My Antonia written by Willa Cather, Cather is able to deliver an intriguing view on how
the American Dream varies depending on the social class of each character. To decipher Cather s
indirect message on the American Dream, readers must pay attention to the different individuals in the
book. Readers must recognize the different realities of the American Dream that is obtainable to those
specific characters. First, the main character Jim Burden can be seen as the ordinary version of the
American Dream. Jim represents the average white male, who has endless potential and has endless
opportunities in life. Secondly, Cather uses Antonia to show the other side of the American Dream.
Antonia is an immigrant who also endless potential, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Jim Burden is hopeful, intelligent, and with a limitless supply of potential. What makes Jim Burden
the perfect candidate is the social class and environment that surrounds him. He is not an immigrant
and he is not the richest man in town, which makes his character relatable too many readers. Jim is
just the ordinary American boy that has nothing holding him back from what his future could provide.
Cather s ability to have the perfect American Dream candidate narrate the story, while being able to
give great stories and descriptions of other characters is what makes this novel so intriguing. It makes
the story more realistic due to the fact of how Jim s interprets the American reality for others, while
seeing being able to work for his American Dream. The best description of Jim s life can be read when
Antonia says, If I live here, like you, that is different. Things will be easy for you. But they will be
hard for us. Antonia is able to tell Jim that due to their social circumstances, how different their lives
are from each other s. This gives the reader a real look into the lives of those unfortunate, which also
delivers the theme of the story. The theme is American Dream versus American reality. Jim is able to
do whatever he wants in life, however Antonia has only few limited opportunities due to her
circumstances and heritage. Cather is able to show the substantial social differences between
characters, which enables readers to understand the different paths laid out for them in the

The Dog Is Dark And Satirical Humor
After watching You the Living, my favorite scene was when there were dogs because it added a
different energy to the scenes. In the scene with the raging woman and her husband, the dog felt fake
and dead at first, but then it came alive. I think the dogs were the main attention grabber in both
scenes. The dragging dog was very surreal, cruel and yet funny. When I saw the comment from Slant
Magazine blog that Andersson s vision is dark and satirical humor and not yet entirely hopeless, I
thought of this dog scene because the dog was hopeless, but everyone was laughing. Throughout the
whole scene, I was just trying to see if he actually dragged a real dog. However, I think another
element that added to the comical side of this cruelty is the mechanical movement and the rhythm of
the whine. Everything was so exact and robotic, yet realistic looking.
The scene with the guy playing the guitar and a moving exterior background became more fascinating
after I watched the behind the scenes. The moving background was already awkwardly amazing when
I watched the film, but the behind the scenes made me appreciate it more because they put in a lot of
practice and preciseness. The behind the scene surprised me in many ways, especially when the city
perspective was revealed as miniature 2D paintings hanging in different order. That was really
unexpected and I ve never seen this technique before. Additionally, when the behind the scenes
revealed that Anderson painted his actors pale

Margaret Sanger Birth Control Movement
Margaret Sanger s Contributions to Nursing Through her Birth Control Movement Margaret Louise
Sanger, a nurse in the early mid 1900s, was the first to promote and spread information regarding birth
control. She was passionate about women having the right to their decision of bearing children. She
also wanted women to be educated about the risks involved and informed about methods of birth
control. Sanger did not have many male supporters; however, she used her perseverance to her
advantage and continued to advocate her ideas to the public. Eventually, her thoughts and ideas made
headway to magazines and newspapers, allowing the information to become public knowledge for any
woman wanting to understand more about birth control. She not only wrote magazines and articles,
she also opened several clinics and performed procedures on women wanting medical assistance that
was denied by many doctors. Sanger s stance on birth control lead to various outbreaks and conflicts;
however, her accomplishments overpowered her obstacles, and birth control is now a decision for
women across the world (Knowles, 2009; Margaret, 2001; Margaret, 2017; Topics, 2015; Wardell,
1980). Biography Margaret Louise Sanger, a women s activist who initiated the U.S. birth control
movement, was born in Corning, New York on September 14, 1879 (Margaret, 2001). She married an
architect, William Sanger, and they had three children, one of whom died from pneumonia at five
years old. She grew up with ten

Simplicity By William Zinsser
William Zinsser is an American writer who wrote an informational guide to writing. He made a
decision to revise a specific chapter called Simplicity. In the year 1980, the first version of Simplicity
was created, then came 1998 followed up by 2006. In the first version, 1980, Zinsser created a long
and wordy paper. He used specific examples but included details that were unnecessary. This is ironic
because the paper is about how writers can write unnecessary words and phrases creating complicated
sentences. He was not inclusive of gender, naming men as writers and only using wives as examples
of distraction. This draft had a complete count of 20 paragraphs. The 1998 version had few changes
when compared to the 1980 s version. There ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(Paragraph 2 2006) He changed viscous language to clotted language. This makes sense, he used a
more commonly used word to this time period making it readable to a younger generation of readers
and writers. (Paragraph 2 2006) He took out on Christmas Eve or any other eve , this made sense
because it was an extra unneeded detail. The sentence made complete sense just as what father or
mother can put together a child s toy from the instructions on the box? . In paragraph 4 he changed
what was originally the president of a major university in versions from 1980 and 98 to the president
of my university in the 2006 version, making a personal connection with the reader. (Paragraph 8
2006) He completely redid the paragraph. In the 1980 and 1994 version, the 8th paragraph was
completely unneeded and included a story that seemed unrelated to the topic of writing. It started as I
love to be alone . The 2006 version of this paragraph wasn t completely off topic from the original. I
still believe this paragraph isn t needed, even with the shortening. With the 2006 version he has taken
out the he s and switched to they . This allows women to feel included, making it more likely for a
female to enjoy the writing. It felt noninclusive in the first two versions. In the newest version
(paragraph 10) he included devices relevant to that time period. Instead of saying he, he said a man or
woman could be distracted by many forces

The term entered common vocabulary in the 1980 s and it grew so popular that the economic, political
and cultural background of today is now described as The Era of Globalization. However, this term
needs to be thoroughly clarified as it means different things to different people. To some, it is a natural
phenomenon of wide spreading economic, social, and political activities of different countries beyond
their physical borders. In these people s view, the increase in free trade and international exchange of
information, labor and technology represents a beneficial process of economic development. Yet, there
are others who believe globalization can damage the level of employment, the social progress and the
cultural identity of a country. As a result of these divergent views on the matter, the term globalization
and the phenomenon it names are the subject of a very strong debate.
Thus the natural question is What exactly is globalization? The answer is that there is no answer, or at

Colors In Beloved
A rainbow consists of different types of beautiful colors, and each of them has a role that makes the
rainbow vibrant and colorful. Colors have different meanings in each and one of them. However, it
can be interpreted as more than one meaning depending on how it is used. In the novel, Beloved, by
Toni Morrison, colors play a significant role throughout the book as it makes the story more
interesting and helps depict and describe how the characters are feeling or what they are doing.
Beloved, is about a woman named, Sethe, who was a slave when she was young and had to kill her

Emeralds are called the birthstone of May; that is when life is renewed again. It is a time when plants
and flowers begin a new life and start to grow after suffering through winter. Rebirth plays a
significant role in Beloved because when Sethe killed her baby, it is said that she became a ghost and
is reincarnated into an older woman. Another example is when Paul D escapes his slavery life in 124,
he was able to move on and become a new man. The last example of rebirth is when Denver goes into

The portrayal of women is very negative, particularly with their use of sexual appeal to achieve
success, thereby teaching very corruptive lessons to their viewers. These include the belief that a

What I Learned In My Writing Class

relatively large experience with academic writing and reading; still, I would have benefited even from
slight improvements in my approach, methods, and techniques I use for writing and reading
assignments. Because of this class my reading, writing, and thinking processes became more efficient.
I knew that my reading process was not efficient for the academic purposes. Before this class, my
critical reading was more akin to my pleasure reading. Thus, I spent incredible amounts of time on
reading assignments. I believe that the lesson about critical reading was very informative and helpful
since it provided particular methods and techniques which truly enhance the reading quality. Some of
the techniques like skimming the titles, finding the thesis and main ideas in the text were familiar to

believe I wrote dull and flat texts. Moreover, my punctuation was terrible since I had no understanding

hard to believe that even simple sentences have such a great variety and can turn your paper into
something very interesting in the terms of structure. Practicing skill of building effective sentences in

was the only artist of the time to agree to this request. Jean Honore Fragonard s The Swing also
known as The Happy Accidents of the Swing is a stupendous example of the Rococo era because of
how dainty and light it was which is ironic because of its adulterous themes. How Fragonard portrayed
St. Juliens vision made men of the Enlightenment uncomfortable and enraged with the artwork
because it made men look immoral and foolish.
Jean Honore Fragonard s claim to fame was The Swing, but who was he before he became prominent
in the art community? He was born in Southern France, but as a child, him and his family moved to
Paris. In Paris, he first started out as a clerk but soon garnered an interest in art and promptly switched
over to a career in art. Specifically, he worked in the studio of Jean Siméon Chardin, where he most
likely learned the basic properties of art, and later became the apprentice of François Boucher, where
he learned the Rococo style.1 However, before he could become the apprentice of Boucher, Fragonard
studied more advanced techniques in Italy and France because Boucher saw potential in him, but did
not want someone who was so inexperienced under his wing. Later, Fragonard entered into a Prix de
Rome competition in 1752 and won with his creation Jeroboam

The Rebellion Of Mother, By Mary Wilkins Freeman Essay
The Power of a Woman The Revolt of Mother, by Mary Wilkins Freeman, originally published in
Harper s Bazaar in 1890 (Gale 1997) it gives readers a view into the life of a woman who is struggling
with how to be correct and proper yet, remain true to herself. While some may see Sarah s actions as
signs of weakness they are actually showing her strength. She is a woman who, in spite of the
restrictions placed on her because of her gender shows the power of a woman by, knowing when to
pick her battles, showing love for her family by serving them, and following her heart to make the
hard decisions regardless of the opposition. The opening scene has Sarah Penn picks her battles in a
conversation with her husband. A glimpse is given of Adoniram, the husband s feelings about the
conversation he knows is coming. It must have been a familiar battle between them; he is unwilling to
discuss, and she is unwilling to leave until she gets answers. She exudes a quiet strength, as she stands
waiting, her physical characteristics are described But her eyes, fixed upon the old man, looked as if
the meekness had been the result of her own will, never the will of another. (Freeman 145). She is a
woman who understands the rules of society regarding her gender and she knows when and where to
pick her battles. Later in the story, Sarah again shows strength in knowing when to pick her battles
with her husband. She speaks up when she must and stays silent when she recognizes the

Comparing Classical Yoga, Advaita Vedanta, And Tantra Yoga
The story, myth, and background of Kali can be interpreted in many different ways. There are three
strands of yoga that have developed over the past centuries. The tree strands are Classical Yoga,
Advaita Vedanta, and Tantra Yoga. Classical Yoga is a dualistic model in which purusha and prakriti
are completely separate. Everything has an equal and opposite counter part in this strand of yoga.
Advaita Vedanta Yoga was a response to dualistic, Classical Yoga. This strand of yoga is monistic and
is a view that affirms the unity of all things. Everything is one. The divine consciousness is
everywhere and in everything we see. Tantra Yoga is non dualistic while also realizing and accepting
that there is diversity in the world. Each of these strands of yoga looks at Kali s story differently and
its significance is different in each view.
In Classical Yoga, the view is that one must overcome prakriti. In doing so, the individual is able to
free the mind from their body to experience purusha. Kali is the creator of prakriti. She is the force
that drives the world and it s lila. It is often thought that when a bad storm or tornado hits, it is her
doing. A yogi of this view would meditate to Kali as the goddess of destruction, not the mother. They
would face that she is the unity of all things, being the creator and destroyer of everything we embrace
in this material world as seen with her dance in the myth. This yogi would learn to face the reality of
life and death. If one simply

Outcome 2 Be able to develop procedures to address concerns and complaints 2.1 Explain why
individuals might be reluctant to raise concerns and make complaints In a care home setting a relative
may feel like they are putting their loved one (service user) at risk of further maltreatment or
prejudicial treatment if they complain. They might fear that they will be identified as being the one
whom complained and then, as a result, that the young person might be the target of a rebellious staff
members emotional response. Conversely, a lot of relatives see how hard the staff are working and feel
that they don t want to complain because they sympathise with the difficult job that the carers have to
carry out, so they might feel like they are being ungrateful for the care their loved one receives. A
relative might also not be aware that they can complain (although this is in the welcome back and
checked by social services and that it has been given) or might not know what the expectation are for
the care of their loved one. They may assume that what has given them cause for concern is the norm
and that in complaining they will be told that is just the way it is . A relative might not think their

Reflection Of Babette s Feast
Babette s Feast While feasts are often thought of as a type of fulfillment and associated with
celebrations, the feast in the movie Babette s Feast is presented as a refreshment, a reminder of the
true definition of reunion. Babette, who witnesses the fracturing of this Church community, is
portrayed as a Christ figure when she rescues the community s falling spirit through her feast.
Although the movie begins with the community demonstrating their unity, and their devotedness to
their faith through attending to church and participating in congregational singing, they were
nevertheless defenseless as they begin to expose each other and speak in the tongue of the evil when
their minister passed away. Hence, the phrase All is Vanity as mentioned by the General is slowly
solidified, becoming a label that wraps around this community as they carry out spiritual practices that
contradict their expressions for one another. Through witnessing inadvertent bitterness in the
conversations of their meetings, like cracks on the wall of the church, the sisters who has been
carrying out the traditions of their community like two pillars that uphold the church since the death of
the founder has also failed to remind the community the purpose behind their gatherings. Despite of
demonstrating implicit and explicit faith through their services for the community, their guidance
becomes more and more powerless as the community starves its spirit through the temptation of
resentfulness. As

Gun Control And The Rights Of A Free State
A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a Free State, the right of the people to keep
and bear Arms, shall not be infringed. (The Second Amendment of the U.S. Constitution). As
Americans we are afforded certain rights that are upheld by the United States constitution, and many
citizens believe these rights to be part of our nation s heritage, or the birthright as Americans.
Conversely there are those which are opposed to some of these birthrights which were added to the
nation s constitution almost two hundred and thirty years ago. Although gun control is a major topic
concerning Americans and their rights, it is not always on the forefront of the many issues in today s
world. It is only when there is a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Later, in 1938, The Federal Firearms Act was put in place which further restricted the state to states
movement of firearms. This new law prevented those convicted and without proper permits from
obtaining guns, but there were no consequences to those who sold guns to these people. More and
more firearm restriction acts were passed like the Federal Firearms Act of 1938, The Gun Control Act
of 1968, and the Brady Bill in efforts to regulate the sale, manufacturing, and purchase of firearms.
Opponents of strict gun laws often reference the Bill of Rights, specifically the Second Amendment.
Although the Bill of Rights gives Americans certain freedoms, it does not mean Americans are not
without certain regulations. Each state has its own constitution, and in each constitution limits can be
added to certain freedoms to ensure the safety of its people. For example, Florida, Georgia and Texas
constitutions allow its citizens to carry arms as a means of self protection, but it always states that this
freedom shall be regulated by the authority of the government. Even though all states feel guns need
to be regulated many disagree in which way regulations are set. There are an estimated twenty
thousand local, state, and federal gun laws currently regulating firearms in the United States (Gold,
2004).

Analysis Of The Episode Nosedive From The Netflix...
In the episode Nosedive, from the Netflix series Black Mirror, the main character, Lacie Pound, is
obsessed with achieving a higher social media status (Dir. Wright, 2016. Writers. Jones Schur). She is
on the higher side of the rating spectrum, yet she continues to aim higher. Lacie is always giving full
ratings to everyone regardless of their status but pays particular attention to those who have more
stars. The difference between giving high status individuals good ratings and mid range individuals is
the hopes that they return the favour. Trying to achieve too much too quickly will not result in good
ratings for anyone, including Lacie. Unlike those in the mid range, high rating elites will not always
return the five stars that were ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She never lets her guard down when it comes to her social media ratings. To continue increasing her
ratings, she is adamant on socializing with high status people. By applying Erving Goffman s
impression management, it is evident that there are multiple ways that Lacie uses to avoid public
shaming and embarrassment. Goffman s concept shows different situations that can be avoidable as
long as people present themselves in a certain way. When an individual is in public, it is best to be
continuously updated with recent events. Once out of the loop, that can result in public embarrassment
because the knowledge that has been applied is outdated and cannot compete with the newer
information. When shame is brought, there can be actions to avoid them such as changing the subject
or in Lacie s situation, sending full ratings in hopes of avoiding embarrassment and to save face.
Shame is a very hard thing to accept and it can change a person s life drastically. It is the difference
between having the highest rating and hitting rock bottom. Achieving a higher status is easy, but being
stripped of your status is just as simple. Before going out in public, an update on knowledge can be
done to avoid embarrassment and it can also be a conversation starter showing how much attention is
being paid to someone. The person showing attention can feel a sense of success as a result of being
constantly updated on social media, while the

Sociological Explanations For The Divorce Phenomenon
A major change that has occurred in the Western family is an increased incidence in divorce. Whereas
in the past, divorce was a relatively rare occurrence, in recent times it has become quite commonplace.
This change is borne out clearly in census figures. For example thirty years ago in Australia, only one
marriage in ten ended in divorce; nowadays the figure is more than one in three (Australian Bureau of
Statistics, 1996: p.45). A consequence of this change has been a substantial increase in the number of
single parent families and the attendant problems that this brings (Kilmartin, 1997).
An important issue for sociologists, and indeed for all of society, is why these changes in marital
patterns have occurred. In this essay I will seek to critically examine a number of sociological
explanations for the divorce phenomenon and also consider the social policy implications that each
explanation carries with it. It will be argued that the best explanations are to be found within a broad
socio economic framework.
One type of explanation for rising divorce has focused on changes in laws relating to marriage. For
example, Bilton, Bonnett and Jones (1987) argue that increased rates of divorce do not necessarily
indicate that families are now more unstable. It is possible, they claim, that there has always been a
degree of marital instability. They suggest that changes in the law have been significant, because they
have provided unhappily married couples with access to a

Ciara Dubose
University of Central Oklahoma
Abstract
The purpose for this experiment is to determine at which spatial frequency does a participant s visual
acuity for a contrast sensitivity function display a peak performance across different sine wave
gratings. The ability to contrast sensitivity is useful in everyday life, more than people imagine. These
contrast sensitivity functions focus primarily on the participants ability to detect accurately the
presence of a sine wave grating across different levels of contrast. The one way repeated participants
design indicated there was a reliable effect of spatial frequency on contrast sensitivity. The
conclusions of this experiment ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Participants seeking to measure the contrast sensitivity over differing spatial frequencies used the
instructions as a guide to perform this experiment. The experiment implored the use of a computer to
display the screen images necessary to test the ability of participants contrast sensitivity. The standard
computer keyboard was necessary to allow the participants to indicate the order that the target
stimulus is present. This particular experiment used a random order showing the target stimulus in
different orders to allow the participant the ability to test their contrast sensitivity to the differing
spatial frequencies.
Design
This experiment used a one way within participants design. The independent variable for this
experiment is the differing factors of the spatial frequencies. The first condition in the experiment used
a spatial frequency with a sine wave grating of four; the second condition used a spatial frequency
with a sine wave grating of eight; the third condition used 16; the fourth condition used 32; the last
condition used 64. The dependent variable for this experiment that measured the participants visual
acuity is contrast sensitivity. This experiment measured the contrast thresholds for differing sine wave
gratings among participants and compared them across the five factors of the independent variable.
Procedure
The participants asked to perform a task involving the ability to determine the presence of a

A Scientist, By Aldous Huxley
When thinking of a scientist, the visual that often comes to mind would be that of a curious, patient
individual slaving away in a sterile environment. Scientists are often viewed by society as quite droll,
but in reality, they must be incredibly creative and intuitive in order to make scientific discoveries.
Children around the world often dream of making remarkable scientific discoveries, although for
some, unfortunate circumstances prevent them from working in scientific laboratories. Whether it be
due to a major illness or a physical defect, many inspired adolescents are kept from their true passion,
due to the demands of the field. These individuals are often forced into much less favorable
professions, but still retain the analytical mind of a prospective scientist. However, those lucky few
who are allowed to express their scientific interests through their alternate occupations, typically
novelists, often portray idealistic societies which have been driven forward by scientific advances.
One such disgruntled novelist, Aldous Huxley, allows his creativity to flourish through his work,
spouting a myriad of technological advancements which have allowed society to become utopian. In
Brave New World, author Aldous Huxley presents the reader with a fanciful tale of scientific conquest
and social upheaval, which ultimately degrades his reputation as a credible scientist. Aldous Huxley,
unlike many of his peers, was born into a highly prominent family of intellectuals. His

John Stuart Mill Limitations
Freedom of speech has been a controversial topic for many years. It has not been controversial in the
sense of whether or not countries should have it, but whether or not there should be certain limitations
on free speech. John Stuart Mill believes that the Harm Principle should be the only limitation on free
speech. Raphael Cohen Almagor believes that there should be an extension of the Harm Principle
called the Offence Principle. The problem is finding the limitation between the two of the different
principles. I believe that the Offence Principle is a necessary extension of the Harm Principle, but
there needs to be a line between what is considered offensive and what is not.
John Stuart Mill was an English philosopher who wrote On Liberty. In On Liberty, Mill discusses the
importance and the limitations that should be set on free speech. Mill is more tolerant of free speech
and language rights, but he also believes that there should be limitations on free speech so there is
regulation on the actions of people under free speech (Mill John Stuart, 1975).

The Survival Of Organisms Depends On Adaptive Behavior And...
Survival of organisms depends on adaptive behavior and species interactions. Taxis is less or more
automatic movement towards or away from a stimulus or direct movement. An example of taxis is
when a plant is put by a windowsill. The plant grows towards the light. Another example is when
stream fish automatically swim upward in the upstream direction. This example is considered positive
taxis. This type of taxis allows the fish to swim in the direction of food and allows them to not be
swept away. Kinesis is a simple change in activity or turning rate in response to a stimulus or random
movement in response to stimulus. An example of kinesis is when sow bugs become more active in
dry areas and less active in humid areas. Sow bugs does vary depending on humidity, however sow
bugs do not move toward or away from suitable moisture levels. Both taxis and kinesis will guarantee
that organisms will remain in environments that increase their chances of survival. When organisms
are put into critical conditions its activities will decrease, although when an organism is put into
positive conditions the organism will stay in that condition for the longest time possible. This behavior
will increase the survivorship of individuals of a species. Migration is a regular long distance change
in location. During migration many animals pass through environments that they have not formally
been too before. Migration can be caused by seasonal changes. For example, some bird species

Self-Control And Courage In The Spartan King...
In Thucydides History, the Spartan king Archidamus outlines the values he idealizes in the Spartan
soldiers, namely self control and discipline which in turn create shame and courage. These values are
similar to those defined by Socrates as vital to the formation of virtuous guardians of kallipollis in
Books 2 and 3 of The Republic. Socrates ideal values are courage, moderation and a sense of shame.
Thus, since there are parallels in the values idealized by both Archidamus and Socrates, it is probable
that both the Spartan soldiers and the guardians of kallipollis will resemble each other to an extent.
Archidamus conception of courage is derived from the notions of self control, discipline and shame. In

Courage will be taught by censoring fearful stories of the Underworld and Hades so that the guardians
will be fearless of death (Republic, 386b). Moderation and self control will be taught by removing
stories of gods and heroes living in excess (Republic, 390a d) and of men lamenting (Republic, 388a
d). The modes and rhythms should follow similarly, culminating in an education of music and poetry
that teaches these ideals of courage and moderation. Physical training must be simple as a good soul
that is trained in music and poetry will produce a good body (Republic, 403d). This combined with the
practice of moderation and self control in food and drink (Republic, 404c) will create the physical
aptitude needed to guard the city and fight wars. Socrates ends his dialogue about the guardians
education by emphasizing the importance of the harmony of education in music and poetry and
physical training in making the soul moderate and courageous (Republic, 410d e). Socrates wants the
guardians to embody goodness and for goodness to become a natural instinct and inclination. This is
then the development of a sense of shame. Guardians who are raised in this manner will feel a strong
sense of shame when confronted by ideals that are opposite to their nature such as cowardice and
licentiousness. Thus, it is evident that purifying these stories and correct physical training will teach
the guardians courage,

The Main Characters In The Graveyard Book By Neil Gaiman
The Graveyard Book, by Neil Gaiman, is about a boy whose family was murdered by a mysterious
man Jack. This boy, now named Nobody Bod Owens, was taken under the care of the people of the
graveyard, spirits of those who had died and were buried in this graveyard, and had Silas a man who
was neither dead nor living become his guardian. It is here in the graveyard in which Bod grows up
and visits many strange places and people, including the place of the Indigo Man, the Sleer, the ghoul
gate, and a witch. It is from these experiences in which Bod develops throughout the story, learning
about the dead and trying to fit into the living, exploring the reason why the men Jack had killed his
family and is still after Bod. The setting of the graveyard in the book The Graveyard Book, by Neil
Gaiman, plays an important role, shaping Nobody Owens through his experiences, education, and as
his home.
The graveyard served as a key in the development of the main character, Bod, through serving as his
home. The graveyard acts as a source of comfort for Bod, even when stereotypically, a graveyard is
known for being dark and gloomy. This is shown when Bod, while the world puddled into blurred
reflection, had sat concealed from anyone, living or dead... and read his book. (Gaiman 174.) The fact
that Bod was able to settle down and read while the environment around him is so dismal shows that
Bod is completely comfortable and relaxed in the graveyard, rather than finding his

A Study Of Provincial Life By George Eliot
Introduction
Middlemarch, A Study of Provincial Life is a novel by English author George Eliot, first published in
eight installments during 1871. The novel is set in the fictitious Midlands town of Middlemarch
during 1829 32, and it comprises several distinct stories and a large cast of characters. Significant
themes include the status of women, the nature of marriage, idealism, self interest, religion, hypocrisy,
political reform, and education
Middlemarch was written in the years leading up to 1832, during the Reform act, this act was for the
benefit of middle class people. Male defense of narrowing of options was the female brain was not
equal to the demands of commerce or the professions, and women, simply by virtue of their sex, had
no business mingling with men in a man s world (Altick 54). Contrast with men without the added
profit of a formal education put conditions in front of many Victorian women to find the only
possibility available, marriage as a main occupation. Marriage is one of the important themes in
Middlemarch as most of the characters marry for love and yet marriage still appears unpleasant and
unromantic. Unlike other novels of that time, marriage is not considered the fundamental source of
happiness. An ill advised or not wise marriage between two people who are inherently compatible
never becomes completely tuneful.

Cultural Barriers To The Romans
The gospel is the foundation of the faith and without it there nothing. Romans 1:16 states it is the
power of God that brings salvation to everyone that believes .1 There are a lot of churches which do
missions and other fine works but they fail when proclaiming the gospel. They proclaim portions of
which are non offensive to people. Hell will not be talked about, sexual sin never mentioned or any
other type of sin. The need is for healthy churches, who then in turn are more likely to send healthy
mission teams out into the field. The world desperately needs an untainted gospel. The power of the
gospel is the best tool to break down barriers. When the Apostle Paul wrote Romans, he was crossing
cultural barriers, he stated in Romans 1: 14 15 14 I am under obligation both to Greeks and to
barbarians,[d] both to the wise and to the foolish. 15 So I am eager to preach the gospel to you also
who are in Rome. 2 Paul is a great example of being a barrier breaker and being unashamed about his
faith. Paul faced numerous obstacles, including persecution , customs and cultural differences.
Therefore, this makes him a great example of what missionaries will encounter. ... Show more content

It could take years of learning languages and earning trust 2. Showing people that the power of the
Christian faith is demonstrated through love. Through that they will observe the truth in the gospel.
That is an effective strategy in working missions across the Globe. Proclaim the gospel without being
ashamed , but have tact and learn how you will be the most effective in your ministry. The power of
God will be with

Essay On Shakespeare s Scribe Of Widge
Shakespeare s Scribe The main protagonist, Widge, was a worrisome scribe for the Lord Chamberlain
s Men. He constantly feared if he would be fired from the acting organization, as many of his actions
made him look bad, especially when he bruised his teacher, Mr. Armin. After his trip to earn money
for the company, he learned to respect people he hated and found a true family to stay with no matter
what. His journey was a wakeup call, changing his arrogant self into a well mannered actor. Ever since
the beginning, Widge had a distrust of Sal Pavy, as Sal had damaged Widge s shoulder by hitting him
with a blunted rapier. Widge never had the guts to face Sal, though; he was too busy fretting that he
would get in trouble if he laid even a finger on Sal, who would obviously have reported him. Sal said
mean things to Widge and tried to steal all of Widge s parts, which Widge had tried hard to earn. His
fake father, Jamie Redshaw, showed no moral support whatsoever, so Widge was alone in his feud
with Sal. His friends did not help either, because they too were afraid of creating conflict with their
mentors. Ironically, though Widge did not fight Sal, he argued over smaller things, like taking a ...

Widge chose to have an acting contest, as his main dilemma was Sal stealing his parts in the play.
Widge put all his effort into his act, which resulted in a tremendous victory. He had resoluted to be
less worried, as his stress damaged him a lot during the journey with his group. He earned more trust
from his peers, who, not only thought better of him, treated Widge as a doctor. Before joining Lord
Chamberlain s Men, Widge had worked for a doctor, so he used his old mentor s techniques to fix his
friends bad wounds and diseases. The expedition helped Widge to finally defeating

Crimes Involving The Use Of Firearms
Crimes involving the use of firearms consist of around 0.4 percent of all documented offences in
England and Wales, doubling since the mid to late 1990 s (Povey and Kaiza 2006). This is due to the
ever more restrictive legislation and public policy responses. A small number of high profile firearm
homicides have significantly increased the public s apprehensions about the problem of illegal
firearms. Police, politicians and media reports have illustrated the emergence of a criminal gun culture
, predominantly in the inner city areas of England (Bennett and Holloway 2004). Comparatively little
is known on the other hand, regarding criminal attitudes towards and within the market in illegal
firearms therefore limiting the progression of policy, policing practice and an understanding of the
impact of firearms legislation (Bryan 2001).
Gun Crime is a general term used when including all circumstances, when firearms including
shotguns, air guns and imitation firearms are illegally utilised (HMIC 2004). This is inclusive of all
illegal possession offences whilst no other crime has been committed. The presence or absence of a
gun does not impinge on the likelihood that crime will be committed (NCIS 2003). Criminals will be
able to use other weapons as opposed to firearms in order to commit crime and accomplish their
negative intention, as the missing presence of firearms does not mean that crimes involving guns are
easily avoided (Hoskin 2011). Gun control and ownership does not

Inequality In The Cherry Orchard
The erosion of social hierarchy causing a dawn of class issue and inequality amongst different classes
of society has played a huge role in Chekhov s The Cherry Orchard. The abolition of Russian serfdom
has caused Russian society into a time of flux and confusion. Due to this, it gave the ambitious serfs
who were previously pitted in the lower class, a chance to become wealthy and move up in social
class. Thus, this allowed for the rise of ambitious and talented in trade and industry, allowing them to
gain primary roles in this new capitalist society. Causing a flux of power in Russian society as result
of the erosion of power and this is mirrored in Chekhov s The Cherry Orchard. This rise in power for
one allows for the fall in another. However, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The liberation allows for the opportunistic middle class who prioritizes these new values and thus, are
on the precursor of success, evoking change, taking fate into their own hands and controlling the fate
of those around them. Although Trofimov does not take action to make changes, he is able to illustrate
and set the grounds and rules of success and the how to adapt in this time of flux and change.
Trofimov states that Mankind marches forward, perfecting its strength. Everything that is attainable
for us now will one day be near and clear, but we must work we must help with will all our force those
we seek for truth. At present only a few men work in Russia. The vast majority of the educated people
that I know seek after nothing, do nothing and are as incapable of work. Trofimov is talking about the
aristocrats who are educated but do things with it and are born into power but do nothing with that
power. Thus, explaining one of the of pillars of capitalism which is practicality, and thus, Trofimov
suggests life should not be stagnant and humans must be pressured to work harder and be motivated to
succeed. Therefore, mirroring the lack of pressure on Russian society which leads to a fall in social
and economic progress. Furthermore, Pishchik, another middle class man

Albert Fish Case Study

PSY 372 Psychology of Criminal Behavior
May 2, 2017
Albert Fish Christened Hamilton Fish but referred to himself as Albert Fish, the name of a dead
brother. A prolific American serial killer in the early 1900 s. Albert Fish lived a disturbing and
traumatic past which would lead him to commit heinous acts of crime victimizing children. The most
known crime, due to evidence, included the abduction, strangulation, and cannibalization of 12 year
old Grace Budd in 1928 (Bardsley, 2012; Ramsland McGrain, 2010; Vronsky, 2004). Events leading
to his capture and execution included a letter he had sent to Grace s mother six years after the death of
Grace. The letter graphically depicted, in detail, the methods used ... Show more content on

on May 19, 1870 to a 75 year old father and 32 year old Scot Irish American mother, the case of
Albert Fish has been notorious for the aspect and studies on nature vs. nurture (Bardsley, 2012;
Reitwiesner, n.d). His father was an old Potomac River boat captain, and his mother suffered from
auditory and visual hallucinations, and had reportedly 5 children (Bardsley, 2012; Schechter, 1990).
Albert was the youngest. His family had a strong background of mental illness and two of them
allegedly died in asylums (Schechter, 2012). After the death of his father, Fish s mother placed him in
an orphanage where he was regularly abused and according to Fish, that s where he got started wrong
because he began to enjoy the physical pain that the whippings brought (Bardsley, 2012; Wilson,
2004). Fish stated: We were unmercifully whipped. I saw boys doing many things they should not
have done (Wilson, 2004). Researchers have settled that the abuse received by his teacher in the
orphanage was a severe form shame punishment and influenced Albert Fish s claims that he had
always wanted to inflict pain on to himself and others (Schechter, 2003). It was in St. John s
Orphanage that Fish would discover that feeling pain and witnessing others being caused pain would
sexually arouse him (Wilson Seaman, 2004). Learning to enjoy watching his peers in pain could have
contributed to his attraction to picquerism, and to castrating, sodomizing, and raping his victims

  • 2. The Overall Growth And Development Of C.p Introduction C.P. is a 14 year old male that this nursing student saw on January 19, 2016 who was admitted to Renown Health s pediatric floor to determine the cause of his cyclical vomiting. C.P. has a secondary diagnoses of autism spectrum disorder. In this paper, I will discuss the overall growth and development of C.P. based on four developmental theorists and other children in his age range. Overview of Growth and Development Growth generally refers to an increase in the physical size of a whole or any of its parts or an increase in the number and size of cell. Development is generally considered to be a continuous, orderly series of conditions leading to activities, new motives for activities, and patterns of behavior (James, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... 51). C.P. is fourteen years old, he is categorized in the adolescence stage and age grouping. Parameters of growth provide information on how the child should normally grow. Data in the determination of normal includes weight, height, and head circumference. It is suggested that these should be measured at regular intervals throughout childhood to ensure the child is on track for normal growth (James, et al, 2013, p. 51). Factors influencing growth and development include genetics, environment, culture, nutrition, health status, and family. Each factor contains information as to how the child s growth and development can be affected (James, et al, 2013, pp. 52 54). Developmental Theorists and Theories Freud s stages of psychosexual development. Freud believed that early childhood experiences provide unconscious motivation for actions later in life (Freud, 1960). The basis of Freud s psychosexual theory is certain parts of the body assume psychological significance as the focus of sexual energy throughout the development of the child (James, et al, 2013, p. 57). Freud s work may help to explain normal behavior that parents may confuse with abnormal behavior, and it also may provide a good foundation for sex education (James, et al, 2013, p. 57). The stages of this theory include oral, anal, phallic, latency, and genital (James, et al, 2013, p. 57). Oral stage from ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Imperialism And Imperialism Imperialism hurt the lives of the colonized people as new machinery boosted the growth of cash crops and under cut the local textile industry, putting local people out of business and reducing the food supply which lead to famine, resentment of religious repression and conversion lead to revolts such as the Sepoy Mutiny, and racism towards the colonised people led to wage inequality which resulted in unsafe working conditions as well as torture and mistreatment. When British companies settled India, they brought new machinery that manufactured cheaper cloth, which under cut the local textile industry and put local artisans out of business, as well as boosted the farming of cotton, a cash crop, which reduced the food supply and lead to famine. Prior to British colonization, the people of India were self sufficient. As they grew their own food and weaved their own textiles, the agriculture and textile industries played a large role in people s lives. Most people s primary occupation was farming, and they grew mostly food crops to provide for their villages. In Britain, the textile industry was rapidly growing in the wake of the Industrial Revolution. European countries competed for limited resources to fuel their growing economies, and sought new markets to which they could sell their goods. When the British came to India, they were seeking a supplier of raw materials. Looking to grow cash crops, crops that could be converted to cash quickly as they could be exported and sold ... • 4. Shoes In The House On Mango Street By Sandra Cisneros In the novella, The House on Mango Street, by Sandra Cisneros, the symbol of shoes represents how attractive you are and how you are portrayed by society. For example, It s Rachel who learns to walk the best all strutted in those magic high heels. She teaches us to cross and uncross our legs, and to run like a double dutch rope, and how to walk down to the corner so that the shoes talk back to you. (pg. 40). This quote shows how Esperanza and her friends want to act very mature and lady like, and how the shoes play a huge role in this. Also, this is the start of Esperanza maturing, as we see a slight change in attitude and her manners, which the shoes also had the effect on her to do so. Another piece of evidence is, Everybody laughing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Managing Crude Oil Using Derivatives MANAGING CRUDE OIL USING DERIVATIVES The present price markers for crude oil are WTI, Brent and Dubai/Oman. The crude oil derivatives contracts are traded on the New York Mercantile Exchange (NYMEX). The exchange acts as a regulatory body and as a financial trading forum for all the parties interested in buying the options. Members of the exchange carry out the trades themselves, or they act on behalf of the firms they represent through an open outcry auction held in the trading room or the floor. The procedure begins when a buyer calls an authorized commodity broker with an order to buy or sell futures or options contract. This order is sent to the firm s agent who is on the trading floor. If the price of oil is tripled in a year then the company is able to purchase oil at the last years locked in price, which is lower than the current price, which in turn helps the company to save a lot of money (Grabianowski, 2009). But, if the price of oil falls then the company ends up paying more and loses money. There are different types of financial instruments available for companies and investors to hedge against crude oil price volatility. These instruments can be traded financially without the tangible physical delivery of crude oil and different instruments have different time periods. Some of the hedging tools are Options, Futures and Swaps. But for this paper we will only focus on option contracts for management of risk in crude oil trading. OPTIONS The modern day financial options market came into existence in 1973. It was known as the Chicago Board Options Exchange. During the same year, Fisher Black and Myron Scholes invented a formula to calculate the price of an option using specific variables. This formula was later called the Black Scholes Pricing Model and it had a huge impact on investors as they became confident about the idea of trading options. As of today there are thousands of option instruments (stocks, bonds and currency) listed in the market and millions of them are traded every day. Options offer extra flexibility to buyers for managing currency or price risk as they work like an insurance policy. Call option and Put option ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The south side has created a new invention, called the Cotton Gin.This invention allows the south to separate seeds from cotton, to make clothes and other items. Made by the traitor himself, Eli Whitney. This invention promotes the once almost abolished idea of slavery. This invention traps poor innocent slaves in a hot, uncared for, factory. There are many differences between the books and the movies, but there is also similarities. While most of the movie follows the storyline, there are some changes made to the storyline. These changes made in the movie impacted the storyline a lot. In A Wrinkle In Time, one of the biggest differences from the book is the plot sequencing in the movie. • 10. The Dog Is Dark And Satirical Humor After watching You the Living, my favorite scene was when there were dogs because it added a different energy to the scenes. In the scene with the raging woman and her husband, the dog felt fake and dead at first, but then it came alive. I think the dogs were the main attention grabber in both scenes. The dragging dog was very surreal, cruel and yet funny. When I saw the comment from Slant Magazine blog that Andersson s vision is dark and satirical humor and not yet entirely hopeless, I thought of this dog scene because the dog was hopeless, but everyone was laughing. Throughout the whole scene, I was just trying to see if he actually dragged a real dog. However, I think another element that added to the comical side of this cruelty is the mechanical movement and the rhythm of the whine. Everything was so exact and robotic, yet realistic looking. The scene with the guy playing the guitar and a moving exterior background became more fascinating after I watched the behind the scenes. The moving background was already awkwardly amazing when I watched the film, but the behind the scenes made me appreciate it more because they put in a lot of practice and preciseness. The behind the scene surprised me in many ways, especially when the city perspective was revealed as miniature 2D paintings hanging in different order. That was really unexpected and I ve never seen this technique before. Additionally, when the behind the scenes revealed that Anderson painted his actors pale ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. Margaret Sanger Birth Control Movement Margaret Sanger s Contributions to Nursing Through her Birth Control Movement Margaret Louise Sanger, a nurse in the early mid 1900s, was the first to promote and spread information regarding birth control. She was passionate about women having the right to their decision of bearing children. She also wanted women to be educated about the risks involved and informed about methods of birth control. Sanger did not have many male supporters; however, she used her perseverance to her advantage and continued to advocate her ideas to the public. Eventually, her thoughts and ideas made headway to magazines and newspapers, allowing the information to become public knowledge for any woman wanting to understand more about birth control. She not only wrote magazines and articles, she also opened several clinics and performed procedures on women wanting medical assistance that was denied by many doctors. Sanger s stance on birth control lead to various outbreaks and conflicts; however, her accomplishments overpowered her obstacles, and birth control is now a decision for women across the world (Knowles, 2009; Margaret, 2001; Margaret, 2017; Topics, 2015; Wardell, 1980). Biography Margaret Louise Sanger, a women s activist who initiated the U.S. birth control movement, was born in Corning, New York on September 14, 1879 (Margaret, 2001). In the year 1980, the first version of Simplicity was created, then came 1998 followed up by 2006. In the first version, 1980, Zinsser created a long and wordy paper. He used specific examples but included details that were unnecessary. This is ironic because the paper is about how writers can write unnecessary words and phrases creating complicated sentences. The sentence made complete sense just as what father or mother can put together a child s toy from the instructions on the box? . In paragraph 4 he changed what was originally the president of a major university in versions from 1980 and 98 to the president of my university in the 2006 version, making a personal connection with the reader. (Paragraph 8 2006) He completely redid the paragraph. In the 1980 and 1994 version, the 8th paragraph was completely unneeded and included a story that seemed unrelated to the topic of writing. It started as I love to be alone . The 2006 version of this paragraph wasn t completely off topic from the original. I still believe this paragraph isn t needed, even with the shortening. With the 2006 version he has taken out the he s and switched to they . This allows women to feel included, making it more likely for a female to enjoy the writing. I have a relatively large experience with academic writing and reading; still, I would have benefited even from slight improvements in my approach, methods, and techniques I use for writing and reading assignments. Because of this class my reading, writing, and thinking processes became more efficient. I knew that my reading process was not efficient for the academic purposes. Before this class, my critical reading was more akin to my pleasure reading. Thus, I spent incredible amounts of time on reading assignments. I believe that the lesson about critical reading was very informative and helpful since it provided particular methods and techniques which truly enhance the reading quality. Some of the techniques like skimming the titles, finding the thesis and main ideas in the text were familiar to me. However, the idea of annotation was new to me. I found the three word ... But the lessons on the sentence structure turned my world upside down: It was hard to believe that even simple sentences have such a great variety and can turn your paper into something very interesting in the terms of structure. • 21. The Happy Accidents Of The Swing Analysis Some men would never commission a painting to idolize their mistress, however Baron de St. Julien felt as though he needed to immortalize his forbidden love in a painting and Jean Honore Fragonard was the only artist of the time to agree to this request. Jean Honore Fragonard s The Swing also known as The Happy Accidents of the Swing is a stupendous example of the Rococo era because of how dainty and light it was which is ironic because of its adulterous themes. How Fragonard portrayed St. Juliens vision made men of the Enlightenment uncomfortable and enraged with the artwork because it made men look immoral and foolish. Jean Honore Fragonard s claim to fame was The Swing, but who was he before he became prominent in the art community? He was born in Southern France, but as a child, him and his family moved to Paris. In Paris, he first started out as a clerk but soon garnered an interest in art and promptly switched over to a career in art. Specifically, he worked in the studio of Jean Siméon Chardin, where he most likely learned the basic properties of art, and later became the apprentice of François Boucher, where he learned the Rococo style.1 However, before he could become the apprentice of Boucher, Fragonard studied more advanced techniques in Italy and France because Boucher saw potential in him, but did not want someone who was so inexperienced under his wing. Later, Fragonard entered into a Prix de Rome competition in 1752 and won with his creation Jeroboam ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Rebellion Of Mother, By Mary Wilkins Freeman Essay The Power of a Woman The Revolt of Mother, by Mary Wilkins Freeman, originally published in Harper s Bazaar in 1890 (Gale 1997) it gives readers a view into the life of a woman who is struggling with how to be correct and proper yet, remain true to herself. While some may see Sarah s actions as signs of weakness they are actually showing her strength. She is a woman who, in spite of the restrictions placed on her because of her gender shows the power of a woman by, knowing when to pick her battles, showing love for her family by serving them, and following her heart to make the hard decisions regardless of the opposition. The opening scene has Sarah Penn picks her battles in a conversation with her husband. A glimpse is given of Adoniram, the husband s feelings about the conversation he knows is coming. It must have been a familiar battle between them; he is unwilling to discuss, and she is unwilling to leave until she gets answers. She exudes a quiet strength, as she stands waiting, her physical characteristics are described But her eyes, fixed upon the old man, looked as if the meekness had been the result of her own will, never the will of another. (Freeman 145). She is a woman who understands the rules of society regarding her gender and she knows when and where to pick her battles. • 23. Comparing Classical Yoga, Advaita Vedanta, And Tantra Yoga The story, myth, and background of Kali can be interpreted in many different ways. There are three strands of yoga that have developed over the past centuries. The tree strands are Classical Yoga, Advaita Vedanta, and Tantra Yoga. Classical Yoga is a dualistic model in which purusha and prakriti are completely separate. Everything has an equal and opposite counter part in this strand of yoga. Advaita Vedanta Yoga was a response to dualistic, Classical Yoga. This strand of yoga is monistic and is a view that affirms the unity of all things. Everything is one. The divine consciousness is everywhere and in everything we see. Tantra Yoga is non dualistic while also realizing and accepting that there is diversity in the world. Each of these strands of yoga looks at Kali s story differently and its significance is different in each view. In Classical Yoga, the view is that one must overcome prakriti. In doing so, the individual is able to free the mind from their body to experience purusha. Kali is the creator of prakriti. She is the force that drives the world and it s lila. It is often thought that when a bad storm or tornado hits, it is her doing. A yogi of this view would meditate to Kali as the goddess of destruction, not the mother. They would face that she is the unity of all things, being the creator and destroyer of everything we embrace in this material world as seen with her dance in the myth. This yogi would learn to face the reality of life and death. If one simply ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Reflection Of Babette s Feast Babette s Feast While feasts are often thought of as a type of fulfillment and associated with celebrations, the feast in the movie Babette s Feast is presented as a refreshment, a reminder of the true definition of reunion. Babette, who witnesses the fracturing of this Church community, is portrayed as a Christ figure when she rescues the community s falling spirit through her feast. Although the movie begins with the community demonstrating their unity, and their devotedness to their faith through attending to church and participating in congregational singing, they were nevertheless defenseless as they begin to expose each other and speak in the tongue of the evil when their minister passed away. Hence, the phrase All is Vanity as mentioned by the General is slowly solidified, becoming a label that wraps around this community as they carry out spiritual practices that contradict their expressions for one another. Through witnessing inadvertent bitterness in the conversations of their meetings, like cracks on the wall of the church, the sisters who has been carrying out the traditions of their community like two pillars that uphold the church since the death of the founder has also failed to remind the community the purpose behind their gatherings. Opponents of strict gun laws often reference the Bill of Rights, specifically the Second Amendment. By applying Erving Goffman s impression management, it is evident that there are multiple ways that Lacie uses to avoid public shaming and embarrassment. Goffman s concept shows different situations that can be avoidable as long as people present themselves in a certain way. When an individual is in public, it is best to be continuously updated with recent events. Once out of the loop, that can result in public embarrassment because the knowledge that has been applied is outdated and cannot compete with the newer information. When shame is brought, there can be actions to avoid them such as changing the subject or in Lacie s situation, sending full ratings in hopes of avoiding embarrassment and to save face. Shame is a very hard thing to accept and it can change a person s life drastically. It is the difference between having the highest rating and hitting rock bottom. • 30. Sociological Explanations For The Divorce Phenomenon A major change that has occurred in the Western family is an increased incidence in divorce. Whereas in the past, divorce was a relatively rare occurrence, in recent times it has become quite commonplace. This change is borne out clearly in census figures. For example thirty years ago in Australia, only one marriage in ten ended in divorce; nowadays the figure is more than one in three (Australian Bureau of Statistics, 1996: p.45). A consequence of this change has been a substantial increase in the number of single parent families and the attendant problems that this brings (Kilmartin, 1997). An important issue for sociologists, and indeed for all of society, is why these changes in marital patterns have occurred. In this essay I will seek to critically examine a number of sociological explanations for the divorce phenomenon and also consider the social policy implications that each explanation carries with it. It will be argued that the best explanations are to be found within a broad socio economic framework. One type of explanation for rising divorce has focused on changes in laws relating to marriage. For example, Bilton, Bonnett and Jones (1987) argue that increased rates of divorce do not necessarily indicate that families are now more unstable. It is possible, they claim, that there has always been a degree of marital instability. They suggest that changes in the law have been significant, because they have provided unhappily married couples with access to a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Scientists are often viewed by society as quite droll, but in reality, they must be incredibly creative and intuitive in order to make scientific discoveries. Children around the world often dream of making remarkable scientific discoveries, although for some, unfortunate circumstances prevent them from working in scientific laboratories. Whether it be due to a major illness or a physical defect, many inspired adolescents are kept from their true passion, due to the demands of the field. These individuals are often forced into much less favorable professions, but still retain the analytical mind of a prospective scientist. However, those lucky few who are allowed to express their scientific interests through their alternate occupations, typically novelists, often portray idealistic societies which have been driven forward by scientific advances. One such disgruntled novelist, Aldous Huxley, allows his creativity to flourish through his work, spouting a myriad of technological advancements which have allowed society to become utopian. In Brave New World, author Aldous Huxley presents the reader with a fanciful tale of scientific conquest and social upheaval, which ultimately degrades his reputation as a credible scientist. Taxis is less or more automatic movement towards or away from a stimulus or direct movement. An example of taxis is when a plant is put by a windowsill. The plant grows towards the light. Another example is when stream fish automatically swim upward in the upstream direction. This example is considered positive taxis. This type of taxis allows the fish to swim in the direction of food and allows them to not be swept away. Kinesis is a simple change in activity or turning rate in response to a stimulus or random movement in response to stimulus. An example of kinesis is when sow bugs become more active in dry areas and less active in humid areas. Sow bugs does vary depending on humidity, however sow bugs do not move toward or away from suitable moisture levels. Both taxis and kinesis will guarantee that organisms will remain in environments that increase their chances of survival. When organisms are put into critical conditions its activities will decrease, although when an organism is put into positive conditions the organism will stay in that condition for the longest time possible. This behavior will increase the survivorship of individuals of a species. Migration is a regular long distance change in location. Socrates ideal values are courage, moderation and a sense of shame. Thus, since there are parallels in the values idealized by both Archidamus and Socrates, it is probable that both the Spartan soldiers and the guardians of kallipollis will resemble each other to an extent. The modes and rhythms should follow similarly, culminating in an education of music and poetry that teaches these ideals of courage and moderation. Physical training must be simple as a good soul that is trained in music and poetry will produce a good body (Republic, 403d). This combined with the practice of moderation and self control in food and drink (Republic, 404c) will create the physical aptitude needed to guard the city and fight wars. Socrates ends his dialogue about the guardians education by emphasizing the importance of the harmony of education in music and poetry and physical training in making the soul moderate and courageous (Republic, 410d e). Socrates wants the guardians to embody goodness and for goodness to become a natural instinct and inclination. This is then the development of a sense of shame. Success Story: Nature Conservancy scientists are helping pioneer new science that can track hidden water in a company s supply chain and developing guidelines to reduce water use. CITIES WATER USE AND IMPACTS Stormwater carries pollution from cities into rivers and lakes, yet most cities do not take sufficient measures to prevent run off. According to the EPA, 40 percent of US rivers and lakes surveyed do not meet water quality standards. Urban runoff is one of the key culprits. Water quality isn t the only issue. Marriage is one of the important themes in Middlemarch as most of the characters marry for love and yet marriage still appears unpleasant and unromantic. • 42. Cultural Barriers To The Romans The gospel is the foundation of the faith and without it there nothing. Romans 1:16 states it is the power of God that brings salvation to everyone that believes .1 There are a lot of churches which do missions and other fine works but they fail when proclaiming the gospel. They proclaim portions of which are non offensive to people. Hell will not be talked about, sexual sin never mentioned or any other type of sin. The need is for healthy churches, who then in turn are more likely to send healthy mission teams out into the field. The world desperately needs an untainted gospel. The power of the gospel is the best tool to break down barriers. When the Apostle Paul wrote Romans, he was crossing cultural barriers, he stated in Romans 1: 14 15 14 I am under obligation both to Greeks and to barbarians,[d] both to the wise and to the foolish. 15 So I am eager to preach the gospel to you also who are in Rome. 2 Paul is a great example of being a barrier breaker and being unashamed about his faith. • 43. Essay On Shakespeare s Scribe Of Widge Shakespeare s Scribe The main protagonist, Widge, was a worrisome scribe for the Lord Chamberlain s Men. He constantly feared if he would be fired from the acting organization, as many of his actions made him look bad, especially when he bruised his teacher, Mr. Armin. After his trip to earn money for the company, he learned to respect people he hated and found a true family to stay with no matter what. His journey was a wakeup call, changing his arrogant self into a well mannered actor. Ever since the beginning, Widge had a distrust of Sal Pavy, as Sal had damaged Widge s shoulder by hitting him with a blunted rapier. Widge never had the guts to face Sal, though; he was too busy fretting that he would get in trouble if he laid even a finger on Sal, who would obviously have reported him. Sal said mean things to Widge and tried to steal all of Widge s parts, which Widge had tried hard to earn. His fake father, Jamie Redshaw, showed no moral support whatsoever, so Widge was alone in his feud with Sal. His friends did not help either, because they too were afraid of creating conflict with their mentors. Ironically, though Widge did not fight Sal, he argued over smaller things, like taking a ... • 44. Crimes Involving The Use Of Firearms Crimes involving the use of firearms consist of around 0.4 percent of all documented offences in England and Wales, doubling since the mid to late 1990 s (Povey and Kaiza 2006). This is due to the ever more restrictive legislation and public policy responses. A small number of high profile firearm homicides have significantly increased the public s apprehensions about the problem of illegal firearms. Police, politicians and media reports have illustrated the emergence of a criminal gun culture , predominantly in the inner city areas of England (Bennett and Holloway 2004). Comparatively little is known on the other hand, regarding criminal attitudes towards and within the market in illegal firearms therefore limiting the progression of policy, policing practice and an understanding of the impact of firearms legislation (Bryan 2001). Gun Crime is a general term used when including all circumstances, when firearms including shotguns, air guns and imitation firearms are illegally utilised (HMIC 2004). This is inclusive of all illegal possession offences whilst no other crime has been committed. The presence or absence of a gun does not impinge on the likelihood that crime will be committed (NCIS 2003). Criminals will be able to use other weapons as opposed to firearms in order to commit crime and accomplish their negative intention, as the missing presence of firearms does not mean that crimes involving guns are easily avoided (Hoskin 2011). Trofimov states that Mankind marches forward, perfecting its strength. Everything that is attainable for us now will one day be near and clear, but we must work we must help with will all our force those we seek for truth. At present only a few men work in Russia. His father was an old Potomac River boat captain, and his mother suffered from auditory and visual hallucinations, and had reportedly 5 children (Bardsley, 2012; Schechter, 1990). Albert was the youngest. His family had a strong background of mental illness and two of them allegedly died in asylums (Schechter, 2012). After the death of his father, Fish s mother placed him in an orphanage where he was regularly abused and according to Fish, that s where he got started wrong because he began to enjoy the physical pain that the whippings brought (Bardsley, 2012; Wilson, 2004). Fish stated: We were unmercifully whipped. I saw boys doing many things they should not have done (Wilson, 2004). Researchers have settled that the abuse received by his teacher in the orphanage was a severe form shame punishment and influenced Albert Fish s claims that he had always wanted to inflict pain on to himself and others (Schechter, 2003). It was in St. John s Orphanage that Fish would discover that feeling pain and witnessing others being caused pain would sexually arouse him (Wilson Seaman, 2004).
