2. Causes of the Civil War Essay
Causes of the Civil War Although some historians feel that the Civil War was a result of political
blunders and that the issue of slavery did not cause the conflict, they ignore the two main causes. The
expansion of slavery, and its entrance into the political scene. The North didn t care about slavery as
long as it stayed in the South. South Carolina seceded, because Abraham Lincoln, a Republican, was
voted into office. The Republican party threatened the South s expansion and so Southerners felt that
they had no other choice. The United States was divided into three groups by the time the Civil War
began: those who believed in the complete abolition of slavery, those who were against the expansion
of slavery, and those ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If the South had been more divided they might have been more willing to compromise. The central
cause of conflict between North and South was slavery, but it was only in it s expansion that it became
a reason for war. The entrance of slavery into politics made it into a public issue, and once the issue
became public the conflict had to be solved. From the first years in American history, we have drank.

original supplies of European made alcohol ran out. The settlers made their own wine. Eve Alcohol
was imported from all over the world. Innovative colonists made alcohol from almost anything. One

Lutherans had strong antidrink traditions based upon religious teachings. Prohibition was first tried in
America to protect colonial settlers from the attacks of I The earliest reformers called for moderation,
not total abstinence, but as their movement gained strength it demanded a complete prohibition of all

3. The Importance Of Selfless Service
When one sees the word selfless service, he or she literally sees the words self and less, followed by
service. Self refers to an individual (in this case, it refers to one s own interests) and less indicates a
lack of, or without. Service can be a synonym of the word volunteering or duty. Therefore, the term
selfless service must literally mean the lack of the pursuit of one s own interests for the betterment of
others. There is no measurement of selfless service. No matter what the scenario or who is involved,
everyone who is involved benefits from one s selfless acts. The one who shows selflessness may
benefit by receiving a thank you, or even just a good feeling of helping others. Of course, the ones
who receive the selfless acts benefit from obvious reasons. Selfless service can be shown by anyone
and everyone, including a soldier putting his/her life on the line to save a fallen comrade, a husband
and father protecting and spending time with his wife and children, someone donating his/her time by
volunteering as a tutor or with the American Red Cross or some other goodwill charity, and the
teamwork of two or more athletes. Those four examples provide different scales in which selfless
service can be displayed. Selfless service can be displayed in regards to one s nation/military, one s
family, one s community, and any team sport.
The U.S. Army s definition of selfless service is to put the welfare of the nation, the Army, and your
subordinates before your own

A Picture of the Modern Day Father Figure
. The quintessential Father figure of the early 20th century was characterized by being the main
breadwinner and disciplinarian of the family. Although he viewed himself as a role model, he had very
little involvement in the nurturing and caregiving of his children. However, as soon as this idea about
the role of the father became the norm, it was already undergoing an immense amount of change. With
the growing acceptance of feminist ideals, gender roles have become more neutral, and economic
trends have brought higher levels of financial equality to woman over the years. Subsequently,
contemporary parenting has begun to redefine the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the recent Pew Research Center study, Growing Number of Dads Home with the Kids: Biggest
increase among those caring for family, Author Gretchen Livingston claims that the main reason why
many fathers stay at home with their children is either due to disability or unemployment, yet the
fastest growing category of stay at home dads, increasing four fold since 1989, are dads who choose to
stay home to take care of home and family (6).
The Pew report statistics give a clear picture of how family dynamics have shifted in recent years, but
it still leaves the question: why are more fathers choosing to take on the role of caregiver, rather than
the more traditional role of breadwinner as did fathers in past generations? Like most sociological
questions of this nature, the answer is complex. According to the academic journal I Feel Like a Rock
Star : Fatherhood for Stay at Home Fathers by Catherine Richards Solomon, two of the main reasons
fathers are choosing to stay home with their children these days include: their wives having higher
earning potential, and the couples belief that one parent staying at home with the child plays a crucial
role in the well being of the family (7 8). While all of the parents in Solomon s study valued the idea
of one parent staying home, they held no distinction about what sex makes a better caregiver
(Solomon, 9). Solomon herself writes Although for

The Civilian Conservation Corps and the Tennessee Valley Authority had positive impacts on work
and the environment during the great depression. The bill proposing the Civilian Conservation Corps
was voted on and passed on March 31, 1933 under President Franklin Delano Roosevelt. In addition,
the Tennessee Valley Authority was formed May 18 of this same year to work on easing
environmental strains in the Tennessee Valley. Roosevelt s goal when he became president was to
improve the economy and environment, and to help raise America from the depression. When he had

led to an increase in jobs for traders, deckhands, etc. (US History TVA). In addition to providing
increased trade opportunities, large amounts of money that would have been spent on the flood

created in the area to monitor flooding. Reports from these stations, in addition to computer
calculations, show that the total cost of the flood damage up until 2007 would have been $5.8 billion
(TVA River Neighbors). The flooding would have destroyed not only people s homes, but also their
businesses and livelihoods., which would have led to further unemployment. The TVA was more
successful in helping the environment because it greatly improved the condition of the land in the
Tennessee Valley, which was thought to be irreparable. A major goal of Roosevelts going into his first
presidential term was land preservation. A nation that destroys its soils destroys itself. Forests are the
lungs of our land, purifying the air and giving fresh strength to our people (Roosevelt). The area of the
Tennessee Valley was so badly damaged, the land was believed by some to be nearly beyond repair.
As reported by the assistant secretary of agriculture at the time, Rexford Tugwell, the land conditions
in the Tennessee Valley were little better, if any, than that of the early

13. Moral Panic And Its Effects On Society
Moral panic is a condition, episode, person or group of persons emerges to become defined as a threat
to societal values and interests and its nature is presented in a stylized and stereotypical fashion by the
mass media; the moral barricades are manned by editors, bishops, politicians and other right thinking
people; socially accredited experts pronounce their diagnoses and solutions; ways of coping are
evolved or resorted to; the condition then disappears, submerges or deteriorates and becomes more
visible (Cohen, 1973, p.9). This means moral panic is an exaggeration or distortion of some perceived
deviant behaviour by the media. In contemporary context, moral panics are not just one off events, it is
their reappearance that confirms their status as moral disturbances of any significant order (Marsh and
Melville, 2011, p.7). Basically moral panics are social issues that relate to real fears about a particular
behaviour such as paedophilia due to the exaggeration of media influence. Throughout the ages, media
and society have been concerned over children. Instead of youth as folk devils, children nowadays
serve as the victims of folk devils (Critcher, 2002, p.532). With these trigger events popping up,
stereotypes are gradually formed. In recent British history, Paedophile had become one of the most
terrifying folk devils (Jenkins, 1992, p.99). Paedophile behaviour is a moral panic one legal case and
the panic is generally fuelled by the sensationalism of media in

In the well known musical Rent, that is set in the 1990s, the story follows a group of penurious and
artistic New Yorkers and how they live their lives throughout a whole year. Mark, a blooming
filmmaker, struggles to find his place in the world after his girlfriend dumps him; his roommate,
Rodger, is a HIV positive musician and is trying to find out how he will make an impact before he
dies, so he brought out his old guitar. Both Mimi and Angel are trying to find love through the harsh
reality of being HIV positive, while still being so young and the successful Joanne seeks faithfulness
through her younger, wilder girlfriend Maureen. Throughout the show you get to follow this group s
dreams, losses, and love stories all while they weave together to create a stunningly raw and emotional
portrait of what it is like to live in a gritty part of the world with a life taking disease. Rent is unlike
any other musical in many ways. Besides the fact that all entertainment is filled with emotions, most
musicals are filled with extensive spotlights, moving scenery, cliché story lines, and showy costumes
but Rent is the complete opposite. This production takes away all titles that comes along with the
word musical and becomes its own little genre under the title of musical theatre. It plays with a sub
genre known as rock opera and has songs that are soulful (I ll Cover You) to more techno (Today 4 U).

tasks that s has been assigned to him/her from a client, the job is just beginning. They must first
understand and have general knowledge about the task that has been put in their hand. The mission
starts with assembling an all star team that will be able to assist you in every aspect as the project go

correlates with the project schedule to ensure every deadline will be made on or before time, also
enforce strong communication throughout the project, and set milestones and follow up at each
interval to assess the progress at every phase until the project is complete. A project manager must be
dedicated to the project assigned from beginning to end. It will consume a lot of your time, but you
will be overjoyed with a successful project at the end and say it was all well worth the stress, long
days and sleepless nights.

P407 Terrorism
The existing and evolving threat of Weapons of Mass Destruction
Joshua Garrison
11/24/2014
To understand the threat that is posed by weapons of mass destruction (WMD), what defines a WMD
must first be understood. The definition and use of WMD is covered by 18 U.S. Code § 2332a Use of
weapons of mass destruction. The term weapon of mass destruction is defined as any destructive
device that is further defined under section 921. Under section 921, a destructive device is anything
that has explosive, incendiary, or poison gas properties. 18 U.S. Code § 2332a Use of weapons of
mass destruction expands further by defining a WMD as any type of weapon that is designed to cause
death or serious injury by release, dissemination, or impact by nuclear, biological, or chemical means.
The legal code also covers weapons that release dangerous levels of radiation. Under FBI guidelines,
the term WMD is used to describe a collection of modalities that include: chemical, biological,
radiological, nuclear, and explosive and is over referred to as CBRNE.
There are a couple of sayings about terrorism: the first is that terrorism is a weapon of the weak and
that terrorist want a lot of people watching, not dead . If these saying are true, then the threat or risks
of terrorist using a WMD would be fairly low. And with the consequences of a WMD attack being far
reaching, one must remain alert for changes that may signify a WMD attack. In 1999,

Unconditional Positive Regard is an attitude of the counsellor towards his client. Rogers believes that
this attitude is essential to a healthy development and cause a positive therapeutic movement in a
therapy.
I find this condition; the very definition of humanity. Our species have a rare capability to understand
each other, however many of us hardly use it. It requires putting the others first, demands to put our
feelings and emotions aside. We are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In many cases, clients show signs of disbelief and sometimes even aggression towards their therapist.
The reason for that is conditional love most of us have experienced in a lifetime. This is called;
conditions of worth, since we were little children we have been told or shown that to deserve
acceptance and love we have to behave in a certain way ( e.g. Be good, patient, obedient, confident,
etc.)We are convinced that we have to be worthy of love. For most of us adults other people s
perception is very important and in many cases can even define a person. Being so used to seeing
myself through other people s eyes, being judged for what I do or have done, Unconditional Positive
Regard appears to me as almost impossible to believe. I do think that it is possibly also client s
attitude. That disbelief; that the therapist can put aside whatever I have done and see me as a worthy
person for who I am, even If I do not believe in me; probably take a while to disappear and change
into trust.
Rogers said that every one of us has within himself desire to change in a positive direction. I assume
that he meant and believed that goodness is our natural aspiration. I fully agree with him no matter
how unrealistic and ideal it might seem. If we, learning how to be a counsellor, will understand how to
be able to accept another person, regardless of their past, negative attitude or defensiveness we will

23. Influence of French Food on the Food Service Industry
The Influence of French Food on the Food Service Industry In the globalized world in which we live
today, food is seemingly available from all corners of the world at one s request. One can therefore
experience everything from Spanish to Russian to Ethiopian cuisines in a matter of hours, especially
in metropolitan cities such as New York, Paris, or Sao Paolo. Yet there are some cuisines that have
reigned supreme in the world of dining, and that take the prize for being the most complex, sought
after, delicious cuisines ever experienced. French cuisine, one would hope, would be at the forefront
of such fantastic experiences. With its delicacies, from escargots to foie gras, French cuisine has
impacted many thousands of taste buds across the globe for many centuries. This paper will thus
discuss the influence that French food has had upon the food service industry in the United States, in a
quick attempt to understand and examine just how sought after French cuisine still is. One of the most
obvious influences of French cuisines in America can be felt in New Orleans. This city was
established in the 18th century by Ursuline nuns, under the orders of Louis XV of France. Ever since,
New Orleans has been central to how one experiences French food in the United States, as well as
how one sees the mix of French and American cuisines to produce something truly unique. Yet this
kind of French food, or Creole food, as this would be called, is only one facet of the array of dishes

24. A Professor Of Psychology At A University
A professor of psychology at a university in a large metropolitan area would be at risk of violating
several codes of ethics if he tells his abnormal psychology class that he is a psychotherapist in private
practice and that they can come to him for therapy during the duration of the semester. Several
problems can occur as a result of the professor s solicitation of his service as a psychotherapist to his
students (5.6, American Psychological Association, 2002). By assuming two professional roles with
his students the professor is clearly engaged in multiple relationships (3.5, American Psychological
Association, 2002). The students are at risk of being exploited by their professor. The professor has
knowledge of his student s deepest thoughts, emotions, and personal experiences. This personal
information can be used to manipulate the student s behavior in a classroom setting (3.8, American
Psychological Association, 2002). If the professor is aware of a student s fear of public speaking the
professor can possibly use this information to punish the student. The students may also feel that their
therapy session influences the outcome of their psychology class. The students may feel that they
received a bad grade or a good grade because of the outcome of their therapy session. This creates
pressure for the students to regulate their therapy session in accordance to what they think will affect
their grade in class. This can lead to a lack of willingness to share

26. The Problem Of Crime Rate
Abstract
Crime is a big problem in the world. Many believe that nothing can be done to prevent it. The crime
rates are increasing rapidly all around the world. Crime is not easy to completely remove from our
society. For many years Scientist and psychologists have argued over whether upbringing forms of a
child s behavior or whether they are born with a personality disorder, or could it be the way their brain
is set up or their body type? Society may never really know all the causes of this criminal behavior.
With all the disagreement going on with the subject on the causes of criminals , the controversial
question would be Are criminals born, or made?
There are so many reasons behind the increased crime rate. I believe to figure out why the crime rate
is rapidly increasing, it is important to figure out the main cause and treat it. With proper measures
like straight laws, sufficient punishments, good moral and education, we may be able to avoid the
crimes to a certain extent.
In today society, crime rate is increasingly on the rise. The crimes that are being caused are stealing,
poverty, desperation, kidnap, rape, robbery, physical fighting, substance abuse, and many other crimes
that are not mentioned. For many years it has been said that a person s parents are the root to make the
person they become as an adult. A child s role model would mainly be their parents, but as a person s
age and grows older. They start to have other influence in their lives. Such as

Henry Ford s Automobile It s Effects on American Society
Over the course of the 20th century, the automobile has gone from being an expensive toy of the rich,
to being the standard for passenger transport in most developed countries around the world (Urry).
Not unlike the effects of the introduction of Railways into society, automobiles have changed social
interactions, employment patterns, goods distribution and the basic face of urban society. The
automobile itself is a rather controversial issue. Supporters of the automobile claim that it is a marvel
of technology that has brought about prosperity, while opponents aver it leads to urban planning that
discourages walking and human interaction, uses non renewable fuels, generates ... Show more

Ford believed that by paying people more, he would enable Ford employees to afford the cars they
were producing and be good for the economy. This new wage plan was offered to men over the age of
22 who had worked for Ford for at least 6 months, and whose lifestyles were approved by Ford s
Sociological Department (150 investigators and support staff who maintained employee standards ).
Another defining characteristic of Ford Motor Company is Henry Ford s adamant opposition to labor
unions. Ford Motor Company was the last Detroit automobile company to sign a contract with the
United Auto Workers union, having done so in June of 1941.
In more recent years, the Ford Motor Company has encountered some resistance from
environmentalists. Ford motor co. ranked 7th as one of the top corporate air polluters in the United
States releasing 9.67 million pounds of toxic air in 2002 (PERI). In an attempt to appease the criticism
received due to their environmental standing by announcing a plan in 2000 to improve the average
gasoline mileage of a line of its trucks by twenty five percent by 2005. This goal was never met; Ford
announced that competitive market conditions and technological and cost challenges would prevent

28. Importance Of Accountability In Criminal Justice
As one of the pillars found throughout the foundation of the criminal justice systems I would say that
accountability should be a must. As we grow older we are taught to be held accountable for the thing
that we have done that is not right. Accountability is an integrity comes hand and hand. A person with
good integrity does not mind being held accountable for their mistakes or wrongdoing. The individual
does not place themselves on a pedestal to be better than the next individual no matter their status. In
the field of criminal justice, law enforcement is held to a higher standard than others, yet are not
prosecuted in the same way as others.
As management, there should always play a key role in maintaining accountability in an individual
starting with self. If the member of management lead by example then usually the one that is being
supervised will follow the example; turning a blind eye usually leads to violations and will never be
addressed until it has been taken too far. Currently, in our society, there has been many issues with
police misconduct. Unfortunately, there is a division between our country regarding the misconduct of
police. Consequently, when the public does not trust the law enforcement there becomes a rift in our
society that is not always positive. When there are issues that are not being addressed some people
may use go about addressing the issue that is unpopular in and unfavorable in the eyes of others. A
perfect example of this is Colin

30. The Sexual Revolution
Sexual intercourse (n): sexual contact between individuals involving penetration.
Throughout the years, social norms in the United States changed drastically. Some people may blame
the Sexual Revolution for those causes. The Sexual Revolution, also known as the Sexual Liberation
was a social movement that provoked drastic change in traditional behavior related to sexuality and
relationships. Before The Sexual Revolution even occurred, people were considered very closed
minded and unaware of the possibilities. The traditional norm during this era was establishing sexual
intercourse strictly for after marriage. Going against that norm was seen as both shameful and riskful.
Not only that, but sexual intercourse was also strictly enforced to be between heterosexual pairs. The
LGBT community was both unknown and unheard of during this time period. Aside from people s
sexual attractions, Women s rights was not a very big topic spoken about at the time, as well. Women
were also under very strict norms, in which they were spoken down to, had limited rights and were
silenced in every way possible.
During the 1960s, groups of people who were part of the LGBT community, or as it was known back
then the gay community , began identifying themselves as so, very openly. Both gay men and lesbians
took direct action in their homes and went against the shame that their community was known to go
under. For as long as anyone can recall, the LGBT community was never exactly accepted by all.

31. Education And The World Of Physical Education
In the last few decades there has been a disconnect in the world of Physical Education. The stigma that
physical educators bare has brought misunderstanding to parents and kids alike. The importance of
health and even the education of basic motor skills has been substituted for standardized testing, and
PE classes are further cut away in school budgets due to a lack of awareness. Studies have proven on
multiple occasions that there is a very strong correlation between more physical education and higher
test scores. Giving children the chance to release energy and have fun in a safe environment is
extremely important in their future development.
The foundation for physical education branches from Movement Education, which teaches kids to
develop motor skills and coordination that are the building blocks for all physical activities whether it
be sports or just throwing a ball. Movement education is an important theme to teach the pre K and
elementary age group. At this time period, children are just learning to control their bodies in a
mindful way, and reinforcing the ideas of a mind and body connection will help them further develop
their skills. One of the key components of movement education is the involvement with students.
There are no teams or scores, and a movement education activity often combines several motor skills
into a game or objective.
Movement Education has been more so phased out in modern teaching environments. The peak in
popularity of movement education

to get newer ideas on how to evolve his car ( Personal interview, 1996). Where are these Gearheads?
Well this group mainly get together in car meets. This car meets are made by gearheads, you don t
have to be someone of high status to be able to organize this, you just have to let a lot of gear heads
know where to meet up, and their passion for cars will drive them there. In this car meets, these
Gearheads have the opportunity to share their improved cars to other car fanatics. These car meets
helps them express themselves and get more ideas on improving their vehicles. This social activity has
a huge impact on the motivation of a car fanatic. Hermilo, explained how it makes him feel when

33. Examples Of Existentialism In As You Like It
SHAKESPEAREAN PLAY PHILOSOPHY The play to be reviewed is As You Like It, written by
William Shakespeare. The prevailing philosophy throughout the play is existentialism. What is
existentialism? Existentialism can be defined through its ontology. Ontology is the study of the nature
of reality and is also called the theory of reality. The ontology of existentialism can be discussed in
under concepts of man and existence. In the concept of man, existentialists believe that man is not
bound by any antecedent human nature but rather free to determine its own nature. It opposed those
deterministic theories (ex. inborn talents, predestined path of life, etc.) and favoured principle of
indeterminism. To be a man is to be undetermined, to be free. ... Show more content on

According to Heidegger, man can only reflect his real self to his self. Man cannot be what he is not.
He can be what he is already: his existence. He further says that humans were temporal beings. It finds
itself finite because he was bound in time and the space he was experiencing. And when man finds
itself finite, his existence would be doomed. But by his free will, he can overcome these threats to his
existence. For Heidegger, on the one hand man is creator of his own experience and on the other hand,
he is subject of his experience. If man accepts the responsibility for developing his own being then he
has true human aspects in his personality. In the concept of existence, existentialists differentiate the
verb to exist from the verb to live . For them, existence means a full, self conscious, responsible and
growing life. Existentialists divided the concept of existence between authentic existence, and
inauthentic existence. A man can live in an unauthentic existence by being a member of a group that is
absorbed only in things and details of everyday life. But a man can live in an authentic existence by
living through his choices. As quoted from Marcel, to exist means not just to be present to my own

34. Inequalities In The American Education System
Topic: The inequalities in American education system
In the modern world, education is the crucial key to the economic success. It can help a poor country
become a developed country, or make a developed country become a more advanced one. A successful
education system is a system, which makes sure that every student can have access to knowledge
equally. Although the United States is one of the wealthiest countries in the world, there seem to be
many inequalities in the American education system. In this essay, the education inequalities will be
classified into four areas: race, economic background, gender, and standardized educational testing.
First, racial disparities remain in the American education system. The numbers in surveys conducted
by the Education Department in 2013 and 2014 school years supported this idea. According to the
study: Since pre school, black and minority students received out of school suspensions more than
white students 3.6 times as much as white children, to be exact (Ahmed). Racial disparities also
happen during K to 12. For example, black students were excluded from classes 3.8 times as much as
white students (Ahmed). Moreover, another shocking stat states that a black student was 2.3 times
more likely to be arrested by a police officer than white students (Ahmed). Class availability and
teacher qualifications also show the imbalance in our education system. Stating from the same
surveys, schools that have a large amount of black and Latino

Discussion of How Christians Can Put Their View of Racism into Action
All of the Christian teachings on racism have originally started from the teachings of the scripture. It
is because of this that Christians are aware that they have a responsibility to bring peace and
reconciliation. However not all Christians take up this responsibility, maybe this is due to the fact that
most people today go with the majority and rarely speak out as an individual.
Some people however have stood up for themselves and spoken out in an attempt to gain justice
without using violent methods to prove their points, they are known as Christian Pacifists. There are
many well known Christian Pacifists, such as Martin ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Desmond Tutu is an Anglican Archbishop in South Africa, and a Civil Rights Leader. He also
responded to racism using pacifism.
One of Desmond Tutu s most famous quotes was: I am puzzled about which Bible people are reading

when God rescued the slaved from Egypt he led them to freedom in the Promised Land.
Politics have lead in the past to the rich getting richer and the poor getting poorer, and when this
happened the prophet s spoke out, so Christians today should test government policies against
Christian teaching.
Like Desmond Tutu, Trevor Huddleston also stated that Christianity was totally opposed to the system
in South Africa: Christina s are not only commanded to love. We are commanded to hate what is evil,
and nothing is more evil than apartheid . Trevor Huddleston and Desmond Tutu had been friends ever
