Love vs. Lust in Andrew Marvell s Poem, To His Coy...
I know that there is a unique difference between love and lust. In the Andrew Marvell poem To
His Coy Mistress, I would argue over the issue of love versus lust. In this poem, we are introduced
to a man who is infatuated with a young woman and wants to become intimate with her. He tries to
pursue this young woman, but the woman is playfully hesitant. The man is trying to explain to the
young woman if she keeps being resistant to him, they would never get a chance become intimate.
Could it be that the man really does have true lovefor the young woman? Or is that he is just lusting
for her gentle touch?
In the first stanza of this poem, the man begins by expressing his feelings for the young woman. He
starts off by trying to flatter ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As we start the second part of the poem, the man begins to discuss the amount of time the
woman and he both have left on this earth. The man states in first couple of lines, But at my back
I always hear time s winged chariot hurrying near. The man is trying to tell the woman that they
should not wait to embrace each other physically because no one is here on this earth forever.
The man describes to the woman that all they will have left in the end is the grave. In the final
part of the stanza, the man says The grave s a fine and private place, but none I think do there
embrace. The man is trying to explain to the young woman that though the grave is a fairly
private place, they will not be able to make love because they are no longer here on this earth. He
also states that in the end he will no longer have the feelings he has for her now because his time
here on earth will be done for. At this particular part of the poem, I would say that the man is using
anything in his power to convince the young woman to sleep with him. The man seems very lustful
at this point, so the love that the man somewhat conveyed for the young woman at the beginning of
the poem has slowly drifted away.
In the final section of the poem, the man goes from loving the woman forever, to saying that there
is no time left here on this earth and that they should make love as soon

Essay On Interracial Dating
Interracial and Cross Cultural Dating of Generation Y Interracial romance has been an issue in the
United States since the first English settlers established colonies during the seventeenth century.
Over the years, views toward interracial relationships in America have changed greatly. The
interracial datingtrend among today s teenagers is increasing at a steady rate (Grapes 49).
However, there are still many biases facing Gen Y youth who choose to date someone of another
race. A look at the history of interracial romance in the United States will shed light on today s
attitudes.
In the 1600s, Maryland banned interracial relationships between whites and slaves due to the
questions over whether the offspring would be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On one occasion, the man was mobbed and nearly lost his life (Landau 3).
Even decades later, white society seemed determined to prevent interracial romances in most
instances. A variety of obstacles were used to prohibit these relationships. Many social scientists in
the past focused on the supposed pathological aspects of the interracial relationship, and they
assumed that anyone involved in such a relationship must be disturbed in some way. In one case, a
young white woman s grandmother had her placed in a mental institution after the young woman
announced her engagement to an African American (Landau 5). When a young black man named
Leroy Gardner enrolled in Bethel College in St. Paul, Minnesota, in 1943, he had to sign a formal
agreement promising not to socialize with the white females on campus. Social scientists have
observed many justifications for black white relationships, such as the need to rebel against
parents or society; a passion for the exotic or forbidden fruit, the blacks desire to get even with the
dominant culture, or whites desire to atone for past racism (Majete 10).
In 1967, Loving v. Virginia cleared all legal barriers to interracial marriagesand relationships. This
legislation made it legal to marry interracially, but many people weren t willing to accept these
relationships. For instance, in 1994 a white principal named Hulond Humphries caused uproar at
Teaneck High in Wedowee, Alabama that caught the

Gay And Lesbian Household Does Not Make A Child Gay

Being raised in a gay/lesbian household does not make a child gay:
Ignorance is bliss
Gay, straight, lesbian bisexual, etc. These are all terms used to describe a person s seuxual
orientation. In today s world people are harassed and assaulted because of which of these words
they identify with. From 2012 up to 2012 there was a drastic change in reported hate crimes against
members of the LGBT community. Shooting from 11% to 40%, in just a few months. People are
unnecessarily becoming victims simply because of what they like, because of what they can not

There have been multiple studies and experiments done on this particular subject. Scientists have
yet to produce any evidence to suggest that sexual orientation is determined by a particular factor or
factors.(Sexual Orientation Homosexuality) It is even said that most people have little to no choice
when its comes to sexual orientation . If someone can truly change or choose if they are gay or
lesbian or straight would it not be easy for them to just come out and say that they are not gay
anymore? Correct, they can say that they don t feel an attraction to the same sex but most of the
time it wouldn t be true. If people could actually choose color it should be easy to change this for
the ones who do attempt to do so. People who are gay or lesbian describe their attraction as
something more than just choice, it is a feeling, a deep attraction and just can t be turned off when
they feel like it.
Conversion therapy is just what it sounds like. This therapy is an attempt to make a child
straight. To show them that being gay is a choice. conversion therapy is essentially putting out
that It s your fault that you re gay. You chose to live this life but, I can help you! I can rid these
bad feelings you have and make you who you are supposed to be . When in actuality conversion
therapy is very dangerous,It can lead to that child to have self hatred if not increase and self hatred

Economists Estimate Wealth And Poverty
Bishoui Fahim
Prof, Brian Curtis
English Comp 2
April 23, 2016
Wealth and Poverty Economists estimate wealth and poverty in many ways. The most three
common measures are income, possessions (accumulated wealth in the form of money, securities,
and real estate), and socioeconomic metrics. Actions in the last category go beyond financial data to
account for health, food, infant mortality, sanitation, and other phases of human well being.
Usually, wealth and poverty measured regarding income. Information on income is readily
available, credible, and relevant, particularly in discussing poverty in the United States, wherever
the inherited wealth is a small factor, and most people live on wages and salaries. It s beneficial
to think of wealth and poverty about one another. That s because income inequality is truly the
underlying issue in poverty, particularly in developed countries. In the economic talk, income
inequality indicates to the variation of revenue between and among several groups of people and
households in an economy. Frequently the differences in wealth that effect people feel wealthy or
poor. In a developed country, any family inside a house with indoor plumbing, decent food, and
clothes, running water, and education and access to health care. This kind of life will be
considered as a luxury. In the United States, millions of people who are enjoying these things are
considered poor people, and those things constitute the essentials in America. In developed

Reflection On Marketing Simulation
For the past couple of weeks, I engaged in a marketing simulation. This Simulation was
extremely fun while challenging as it taught me the right way to advertise and market a new
brand, specifically a computer, that you are putting out to the world. The targeted markets were
Chicago, Sao Paulo, Paris, and Shanghai. There were three different segments that were related
to PC s and laptops. Those three were Mercedes, Workhorse, and Traveler. Below, I am going to
mention what specific decisions I made in each of the six quarters as well as why I made each
decision. Quarter 1 2 Since quarter one was the first quarter of this simulation, I was unaware of
how difficult it was going to be to make all the different decisions. Firstly, I had to choose a
Company name. Because I was selling computers, I thought that the name Dev Tech was a
perfect fit being that this simulation was about development and technology. Next, I had to
choose a target segment. I knew going into this simulation that it would be better to invest in the
more expensive goods as it would benefit me in the end. The segment that didn t care about
price was Mercedes, so that is the segment that I made my first priority. Next, I had to choose
what responsibility I wanted to have with the company. I chose to be president because the
president has advantage of having overall leadership. Finally, I had to open a sales office. I decided
to go with Chicago because there was a high amount of people who were willing

Rio de Janeiro. His dad needed him to emulate his example and turn into a designer, yet in the

The Raven And The Cask Of Amontillado
On January 19, 1809, a major figure in the world of literature was born. Edgar Allan Poe, from
Boston, Massachusetts, would become known for his profound and ingenious poems, short stories
and critical theories. His tales of horror and mystery would establish the modern detective story and
become literary classics worldwide. Additionally, the great poet would earn the nickname, Father of
the Detective Story . Edgar Allan Poes famous works, such as The Raven, The Fall of the House of
Usher, and The Cask of Amontillado, captured the interest and imagination of readers across the
globe. Furthermore, today s society uses his works as prime examples and ideas for books,
movies and yet songs. Edgar Allan Poe s renowned The Raven and The Cask of Amontillado are
regarded as brilliant and extraordinary works. One of Edgar Allan Poe s prominent poems is The
Raven. Written in January 29, 1845, the poem revolves around a man grieving over the lost of a

The short story was written in November of 1846. The plot revolves around an Italian man
named Montresor that takes his revenge on a friend, Fortunato, whom had insulted him. The
tale was a response to a personal rival of Edgar Allan Poe, Thomas Dunn English, and is evident
because he used very specific references to English s novel. One specific reference is that
Fortunato makes a reference and gesture to the secret society of Masons, similar to the secret
society in Thomas English s tale. The Cask of Amontillado revolves around murder, but is not a
tale of detection similar to other short stories written by Edgar Allan Poe. The thing that makes the
tale interesting is not only it being a tale of revenge, but also the horror and mystery in Montresor s

A Comparison Of Superman And Me By Sherman Alexie
Throughout literature many pieces of work can be compared and contrasted to each other. In
Superman and Me, Sherman Alexie discusses the challenges he faced as a young Indian adult,
who found his passion of reading at an early age, living on the Spokane Indian Reservation. He
challenged the stereotype of the young Indian students who were thought to be uneducated while
living on a reservation. Likewise, in the excerpt from The Hunger of Memory, Richard Rodriguez
shares his similar experience of being a minority and trying to break stereotypes of appearing
uneducated. He shares the details of his life growing up learning a different culture and the
struggles he faced becoming assimilated into American culture. In these two specific pieces of
literature discuss the importance of breaking stereotypes of social and educational American
standards and have similar occupational goals; on the other hand the two authors share their
different familyrelationships.
A large similarity between the two works of literature consist of the journey of breaking certain
standards of education particularly in people of color. In the essay Superman and Me, Alexie grew
up on the Spokane Indian Reservation where to a non Indian adult the expectation of the Indian
students were very low. With these exceptions set at such a low standard the desire to give students
a proper education were extremely limited. The students, as Alexie says, struggled with basic
reading, and overall, were expected

characters queasiness between emotions and social norms. Not to mention, social norms could
mean different types of morals and ethics. Whether emotions are defined by actions caused by one

beginning of the story Mr. Godfrey Gauntlet is the brother proclaiming the infatuation Mr.

Examples Of I Am Malala
After reading the book I Am Malala I noticed that she was one of the bravest strong young girls
in the world. Malala Yousafzai is a young girl born on July 12, 1997, in the city, Mingora in
Pakistan. She fought for something that is she is passionate about. Heroes are people who stand
up for something, they are courageous, they are noble and they are loyal to something they
stand for. Malala is known as the fifteen year old girl who got shot because she fought for women
s rights and education. This young girl named Malala is brave, persistent, and influential. One of
the reasons why Malala is a hero because she shows courage and bravery through her actions.
First of all, Malala kept going to her school even though death threats kept coming to her and to
her family. This shows that Malala is brave because she did not care what the Taliban did she cared
more about her education even though the Taliban kept threatening her. Secondly, when the Taliban

In addition, Malala changed her name to Gul Makai while she was writing blog posts for the
BBC. This shows that she is persistent because she did whatever it took to make the world
aware what was happening around her. Also, Malala has started to post and blogging for the
BBC news about being treated like a slave under the Taliban s threat to oppose her education.
This means, that although this can get her hurt or killed she still continued to fight for women s
rights and for her education. Lastly, after all the threats her family had received, she was
frightened because the Taliban would go after her father and did not think they would actually
harm a child. She then was shot in the head when she was on the school bus on the way home and
survived. This explains that this was worth it because many people had heard her speech and did
not give up at all for her

The Mexican Revolution Essay
The Mexican Revolution
The Mexican Revolution was the culmination of a mass of political, economic, and social tension
that accompanied the regime of the dictator Porfirio Diaz. The Revolution began with the aims to
overthrow Diaz, but the Revolution had a pronounced effect on the organization of Mexico s
government, economy, and society.
Porfirio Diaz was the president of Mexico when the Revolution broke out. He was elected in
1877, and although he swore to step down in 1880, he continued to be reelected until 1910. He
claimed that he was justified in this because he brought stability to Mexico. However, this was
hardly the case. Diaz s regime aimed to industrialize Mexico, and foreign investors such as the

After Diaz had won by a landslide, he released Madero from prison. Madero promptly fled to San
Antonio, Texas to plan a revolution. There he wrote the Plan of St. Luis Potosi, which said that the
election was fraudulent and that he was the provisional president of Mexico. The plan was purely
political and Madero planned to have a completely democratic government. The plan said nothing
about changing the situation for farmers and peasants. However, rural peasants latched onto the
plan, thinking that Madero would also reform the country economically and socially. There were
many revolutions carried out under Madero s flag, specifically revolutions carried out by Pancho
Villa and Emiliano Zapata.
Different groups had very different goals for what the Mexican revolution would accomplish. The
rural peasants and indigenous people wanted the land to be taken out of the hands of the
aristocracy or the elite and have the land be evenly divided between the rural towns. They wanted
the territory of their ancestors back because it had been stripped from them during the regime of
Porfirio Diaz. They also wanted to be taken out of poverty and to have farming available to them
again so that they could sustain their lives and work for their living. Therefore, because the
peasants were suffering under the regime of Diaz, they wholeheartedly supported the revolution and
everything that came with it. The Roman Catholic Church,

Difference Between Chipotle And Bread
When I was a kid I did not enjoy eating and was very particular about that foods I consumed. My
mother would always try to trick me into eating by bribing me or telling me that the food would
give me powers. I also did not enjoy going to restaurants because I found it boring and since I was
not looking forward to the foodit was not a pleasant trip. But now I enjoy eatingand going to
restaurants, in fact, I eat more at restaurants than I do at home. Two of my favorite restaurants are
Chipotle and Bread Zeppelin Salads Elevated and they have some similarities but also
differences. Two similarities between Chipotle and Bread Zeppelin Salads Elevated are food
presentation and line service; two differences are the menu and price. The first similarity between
Chipotle and Bread Zeppelin Salads Elevated is the food presentation. Chipotle is known for their
savory burrito, a tortillafilled with your choice of rice, beans, meat and any extra toppings such as
lettuce, cheese, sour cream, all wrapped around in the flour tortilla. After the burrito is wrapped,
they hand it to you wrapped around tin foil to keep it warm and fresh. Bread Zeppelin Salads

The Revolutionary War By David Mccullough Essay
1776 written by David McCullough was a very accurate portrayal of the the revolutionary war.
The author chose to write the events with mostly a non biased perspective and was able to use
multiple sources from the time. This allowed the author to write the book in an interesting way and
inform the reader of this vital time in the nation s history. The book focuses on the life and struggles
of George Washingtonas he progresses through life and the war. It was helpful that the author
showed his perspective and thoughts as he grew to become the leader many people think him as
today. It is stated that George washington was not a very strong leader when he took control on
July third, but it was his perseverance and unrelenting determination that ultimately won the war.
Also, The author chose to give insight into the other important leaders who influenced how the
war progressed through the year. This was not only accomplished by direct quotes but the author
also explained why some decisions were made on both sides made the events less complicated.
The fact that the author chose to focus of Washington and the troops lives also made it more
personal and it helped that the narrative did not jump around to give an overview of the war from
all perspectives.
The first character that was introduced in the book was George III, King of England. He arrives in

Analysis Of Orson Welles And Herman Mankiewicz
Citizen Kane figures in one of the most influential, and greatest filmography works of all time.
However, the making of its fame was rather rough. Orson Welles and Herman Mankiewicz were
the screenwriters for this movie, Welles was the leading director; therefore, he had the final
saying in the contributions to the movie. Both writers worked separately when developing the
story, only having the main character defined: Charles Foster Kane it is pertinent to say that I
think Foster is supposed to be ironic considering his morose childhood . Welles had a rough
childhood, which is portrayed in the film, since he came from a broken home and lost his
hardworking mother when he was nine. The origins of Kane s personality is sort of like a
mixture between allusions to Welles miserable childhood due to his parents divorce, and later
the death of his mother in his first ten years of life; and also an exposГ© of William Hearst s
life. Hearst is arguably one of the most influential American journalists and main contributor of the
creation of yellow journalism basically, headlines with information that had almost no support for
its claimings . Kane s character is mainly built out of these two pivotal events, hence his
childhood, passion for yellow journalism, and obsession with power over papers. The category for
this film is called film Г clef, and just like roman Г clef for novels, this means that the work is
describing real life situations, or characters are minimally changed

The Pros And Cons Of The Wealth Of Nations
The Wealth of Nations often considered to be merely a textbook of economics, is more of
prescriptive text that endeavours to advice legislators on the manner in which it should structure
those policies and institutions that support the practices of production and exchange. The purpose
of doing so, it seems, is to best encourage public opulence and as a result public happiness and well
being.
This text, not just a product of the intellectual musings of an armchair philosopher, was born out of
a culmination of extraneous events and systems that were prevalent at the time of its conception.

Smith, however, was of the opinion that Mercantile System was deeply flawed. Firstly, as given
in the Fourth Book (3) of the Wealth of Nations, he argued that the real wealth of a nation was
not in the unconsumable riches of money, but in the consumable goods annually reproduced by
the labour of the society . (4) Secondly, the balance of trade, as observed by him, often did little
to enhance the wealth of a nation and instead served to create violent national animosity instead.
He instead put forth the idea of a balance of annual production and consumption, which if it were
unfavourable would have caused a decay of the wealth of a nation. Thirdly, Prof. Smith was a
strong critic of the idea of colonialism; stating that, To found a great empire for the sole purpose
of raising up a people of customers, may at first sight, appear a project fit only for a nation of
shopkeepers. It is, however, a project altogether unfit for a nation of shopkeepers, but extremely fit
for a nation whose government is influenced by shopkeepers. Such statesmen, and such statesmen
only, are capable of fancying that they will find some advantage in employing the blood and
treasure of their fellow citizens, to found and maintain such an empire. (5) The implication being
that the idea of colonialism was of an extremely oppressive nature, beneficial only to the colonial

Marriage To Survive In Daniel Defoe’S Moll Flanders. Although
Marriage to Survive in Daniel Defoe s Moll Flanders
Although the central concerns of women during the eighteen century was of courtship and
marriage, social graces, and dignity, money was also a very important concern. Many of the female
characters in eighteenth century novels are portrayed as intensely aware of finances and markedly
interested in the getting and keeping of money (Scheuermann, 311). Daniel Defoe s fictional
heroine, Moll Flanders is always thinking in economic terms and looking for financial stability. She
must base her romantic relationships on money, rather than mutual affection. Marriage, for Moll, is
a way to survive. This suggests that women could not be self sufficient in England s eighteenth

to him, but let him do just what he pleas d; and as often as he pleas d (24). She did not think of
the money as a bribe to keep her quiet, but more as evidence of that the young man truly loved
her. She does not realize that he only sees her as a sexual escapade.
In eighteenth century England, everyone was incredibly conscious of their social positions.
Consequently, the rich rarely married the poor (Heyck, 47 64). Thus, when the younger brother

she finally understood that the man that she loved truly did not want to marry her. Defoe, who, in

Al Qaeda, Isis And Terror Attacks On The United States Essay
Chapter 8
Al Qaeda, ISIS and Terror Attacks on the United States
Al Qaeda is the parent to ISIS. Al Qaeda translates to The Fundament . It is a multi national radical
group founded in 1988 by Osama bin Laden and other militants who fought for Afghanistan against
the Soviet Union. It has been labeled as a terrorist group by the United Nations Security Council
and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, and quite a few other countries. The Sunni Islamic
group was based in Sudan for the early part of the 1990, they moved to Afghanistan somewhere
around 1996 and went under the name of Taliban. The group merged with Jihad s and later declared
a holy war against the United States. The United States troops all but eliminated the group and
killed its leaders while they were in Afghanistan, but with withdrawal of the troops in 2011, have
regrouped and made a comeback. https://www.britannica.com/topic/al Qaeda
ISIS which stands for Islamic State of Iraq and Syria could also be called ISIL which stand for
Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant. They are an organization or a type of government that was
once with Al Qaeda and were so violent that Al Qaeda disowned ISIS. They believe what they are
doing is what Muhammad would have them do. They are not too far away from what Hitler
thought about the Jews. ISIS lures Westerners to join them by promising camaraderie, moralistic
activity and a sense of heroism that deludes these people with an adventure like they never had

Negotiations With The Dispute Between The Disputants
Problem Solving First of all, in order to solve any problem there need to be negotiation techniques
established to deal with the dispute between both of the disputants. First, a proper negotiation
technique must include the creation of a mutual frame. This frame consist of setting a good tone
during the negotiators opening statement. This tone can have two different effects, either there is
cooperation or competition (McCorkle Reese, 2015, p 159). There is nothing worse than having set
everything up and because of the tone that the mediator has everything fall apart. Second, there
needs to be an establishment of criteria in order to have both the disputants establish cooperation.
When criteria is established, neither of the disputants can establish their own competiveness,
however, when a disputant does establish competitiveness, it is the job of the mitigation to move
out of competitiveness and move the discussion to determine the facts (McCorkle Reese, 2015,
p159). Some ways to assist the mediator from successfully steering away from competiveness is by
asking questions that remind both disputants that the reason they are there is to solve the problem
and not cause more tension. Additionally, while some negotiators might employ brainstorminginto
the techniques, this is considered optional. However, I do feel that having both disputants
brainstorm can assist then with considering both side of the issue when ideas are expressed freely.
According to McCorkle and

High School Basketball History
A plethora of reasons exist as to why a certain sport might signal importance to a state, but in
Indiana, the sport happens to standout on a whole different level. Current Southeast Dubois

of the community support behind the team (Allen 2). The era of basketball between 1911 present

such as Huntingburg, Loogootee, Tell City, Ferdinand, and numerous others.

Advantage Of Competitive Intelligence
The concept Competitive Intelligence has a rich tradition (Juhari and Stephens, 2006), and it has
strong bases in military science and holds a rich history dating back to more than 5,000 years (Tao
and Prescott, 2000)..
In the recent history, especially in the management field, this concept has been examined for many
times under different titles. For example, Aguilar (1967) and Fahey and King (1977) invented the
phrase environmental scanning, which concentrated on how the executives scan their organizations
environment.
Likewise, over time other labels have been utilized in prior studies to identify competitive
intelligence. Like:
Business intelligence (Cleland and King, 1975; Pearce, 1976).

in strategic planning: bringing to light business opportunities and problems that will enable

The Relationship Between Meditation and Mental and...
Rooting back to its ancient times, meditation has been around for thousands of years, especially in
the Eastern part of the world and has spread to the Western countries in early 1970s.
Contrary to what I initially believe meditation is, prior to taking this course, which is the mental
concentration on something, meditation is actually a thoughtless awareness of an individual s
surroundings. Dhyana, the generic Sanskrit term for meditation is so much more than being alone
with one s thoughts, it is about the state of mind being calm but alert.
Sogyal Rinpoche in The Tibetan Book of Living and Dying said that it is through meditation that
you are able to go on a journey to discover yourself, paving the way to enlightenment.1 ... Show

This will lead to a better memory and the ability to recall facts faster.
According to studies by Chiesa and Seretti, 2009 and Hassed, 1996, meditation also relieves
stress and seems to be an effective way to increase overall general well being as it reduces the
production of stress hormones such as cortisol and adrenaline.5,6
Bloomberg also reported a study by John Denninger, a psychiatrist at Harvard Medical School
showing that meditation also wards of diseases.7
Meditation boosts the immune system, making people who practice it less susceptible to falling sick.
Where when will I meditate?
Ideally, the rooftop, by the private pool or the balcony would also be good locations to carry out
the meditation, as it is secluded, quiet and tranquil so that I can truly be with myself. I should
also draw up a schedule to allocate time to meditate in a comfortable, quiet and safe environment
such as my apartment to truly enjoy the meditation. I should also always make it a point to not
rush through my meditation as it lowers the effectiveness of it. If I were to be busy, I would not
force myself to meditate because it would not be sincere.
I will meditate early in the morning, as it is the quietest time of

Dominican Music and Film Essay
Dominican Music and Film
The Caribbean island nation of the Dominican Republic is little known by most Americans, but
America is ever present in the Dominican consciousness. Until Sammy Sosa and Mark McGuire
went head to head in the legendary homerun battle of 1998, few Americans were aware of any
American Dominican rivalry in western hemispheric culture. Nothing gave Dominicans more
pride than to see Sosa hold Major League Baseball s homerun record, albeit for less than 24 hours
before McGuire reclaimed U.S. dominance in America s favorite pastime. Only merengue, a
tropical music and dance form, exceeds baseball in its ability to raise Dominican nationalist

After Trujillo was killed in an assassination plot that many Dominicans deemed heroic (see next

merengue Johnny Ventura, summarily dropped the overt propaganda, but they emerged from the
Trujillo era with a heightened awareness of the power of their craft. Johnny Ventura would later
become an active political figure, and in 1998, win the mayoral election of Santo Domingo, the

Ventura asserts, I believe getting involved #8212;not just the artists #8212;in the search for

During the span of the Berlin Airlift, 394,509 tons of supplies were given to the Berlin people
from the United States, Royal Air Force, and British Civil. The Berlin Airlift s main priority was
to assist the people in Berlin with supplies such as food, clothing, medical supplies, and much
more, because the Soviets blockaded West Berlin and deprived Berlin citizens of resources in an
attempt to run the other allied powers out of the city. Thousands of individuals were helped during
the Berlin Airlift, which lasted a little over a year. The three main causes of the Berlin Airlift was
post World War ll, Germany split up into 4 zones, the Soviet Blockade, and the Cold War

When World War ll ended and the Allied powers came out victorious against Germany, the Allies
had to decide what to do with the country. The allies withheld their decisions at the Yalta and

Childhood Influences Impact the Writing of F. Scott Fitzgerald
On Wednesday February 12 of 1890 F. Scott Fitzgerald s parents were married in Washington
D.C. Six years later on September 24, 1896 Francis Scott Key Fitzgerald was born at his home
481 Laurel Ave. in St. Paul, Minnesota. His two infant older sisters had died from a violent
influenza so that by the time Fitzgerald came along Mollie Fitzgerald had become the proverbial
nightmare that known as an overprotective mother. Fitzgerald s mother was no traditional mother

Scott and Annabel lived with their grandmother while Edward and Mollie stayed with a friend
until 1909 when the family finally reunited at 514 Holly Ave. (Bruccoli 23), the street where the
family would live for the next five years. These five years are of note mostly because they made
an impression on Scott and would later become a theme and setting for some of his short stories.
During this time Scott s education began. His mother, Mollie wished for him to associate with

immense noble stature, he has a major flaw of stubbornness and then he finally comes to a
downfall in his life by disciplining himself. Oedipuswas a tragic herobecause he had noble stature.
A Priest declared to Oedipus, Great Oedipus, O powerful king of Thebes! You see how all the ages

To find out that the in India believe the same thing, corporates in India are investing into personal
development, the following hypothesis is taken
H2: Personal development consistently learning is gaining importance.
Since most of the current personality development institutes are thriving and giving all those stuff
that formal education system lacks, and a large number of people are believing that formal
education in India is insufficient we take the following hypothesis:
H3:Formal education alone is insufficient for success in life.
Conventionally the various areas of personality development are
Vedic mathematics, public speaking, teamwork, leadership, English speaking, attitudinal seminars,
conversation techniques, speed reading, acting, adventure sports, mind power [hypnotism,
meditations etc], yoga.
So that to know which areas would they give maximum weightage we make the following
hypothesis.
H4: Each area of the personality development program is equally weighted.
METHODOLOGY: The data used in this report is collected from doing a survey. A questionnaire
is used for conducting research. Questionnaires are used primarily as there has been very less study
done on this subject in India specially related to our hypothesis. Since the research are having

Does Bonsoy soy milk manufacturer or distributor have had any liability to the Australian
consumers in the tort of negligence?
Set of laws
Tort: A tort is a civil wrong which is done by one party to another. As a result of this, the person
who is suffered or injured can take civil action against another party. The law of torts provide the
rules and regulation to the society. If these rules and regulations are breached the person is liable

The Church Of The Martyrs
A church without youth is a church without a future. Moreover, youth without a church is youth
without a future. this is a quote from the former pope of Alexandria, Pope Shenouda III. Pope
Shenouda passed away about four years ago and his episcopate lasted for over 40 years. The
Coptic church has commonly been referred to by historians as the Church of the Martyrs (A Brief
History of the Christian Church). It was given this name due to the desire of martyrdom rather than
the multitude of martyrs. The five main points of its history are the origins of Coptic Orthodox
Christianity, monasticism, contributions to Christendom, the ecumenical councils and the church
today. It is believed that the Coptic church of Egypt was the first church ever created; it was
founded by Saint Mark in approximately 42 AD. (Osman) Saint Mark is also considered to be the
first bishop and pope of Alexandria. However, it wasn t until the late second century when
Christianity was truly established in Egypt. During the second century the roman emperors had
begun to persecute the Coptic Orthodox Christians formerly known as Copts; yet as previously
stated these Copts would not hide, instead they would openly worship unafraid of death, because
it is said that martyrdom isn t the end of a life, it is believed to be an entry to a new life. The very
first persecution against the Copts was in 68 AD when Saint Mark suffered martyrdom by pagan
extremists. Then for seven years in the early second century

Extending Education System
Extending the Education System
Andy Nesbitt, superintendent of education for the Grand Erie District School Board stated in an
interview in 2011, There is no exact way to measure how many students return for a fifth year and
the number varies from year to year and at different schools. But, on average, he said that 40% to
50% of high schoolers are returning for an extra year of study (Ruby). Why is this number so high?
In 1921, the Ontario government enforced a tremendous idea that would improve the education
system. They introduced Grade 13, a fifth grade in high school. The fifth year of high school was

for their kids. Something they will never remember, or something which would allow a student to
explore the career opportunities and find out what they want to do, to contribute to the world. I

Emily In Emily Faulkner s A Rose For Emily
A Rose for Emily illustrate love, disappointment of life, grief, death, and rejection that Emily has
received throughout her life; as a young woman in her time. Emily is not able to be herself in an
era where women had an important role in society. She was expected to be the one person that
the town wanted. She was expected to be proper, outstanding, and punctual. She wanted to be
herself and not have someone always looking over her shoulder. So throughout the story the
town people whisper about her in the hopes it wouldn t get back to her. The narrators of this
story are from the perspective of how they see her. Emily is different in a time when difference
is not ratified or accepted. When Emily finally passed away all of the town went to her funeral,
which was held in her home. The last type of star home for the period of time. It was a big,
squarish frame house that had once been white, decorated with cupolas and spires and scrolled
balconies in the heavily lightsome style of the seventies. (Faulkner 861). No one had been in
her house, besides the old man servant that would take care of her, for 10 years. After Emily s
Father died she received notifications of her past due balances to pay her taxes. She never left the

of propaganda posters to increase nationalistic feelings towards one s own country. Through the
mass production and creativity of the posters, many young men enlisted in their nation s army to
protect and support their country throughout the war.
This first poster (see Figure 1) was used by Germans during World War I; on the bottom part of the

This represents that the very well dressed man is hiding in the shadows from the war; that he is

them. Having the American flag flying above these soldiers, gives the sense that they are heroes
for going to fight this war. Having the well dressed man inside and the marching soldiers outside
shows the viewer that the men who stay home and tremble in fear of the war do not deserve glory.
On the other hand the soldiers that are outside deserve glory.
Finally this last poster (see Figure 3) was used for English propaganda. In the background there is a
burning building and two lines of soldiers. The lines of soldiers could represent two things: one
being that the British army is much smaller compared to Germany s. The second is that in the line
of soldiers, there appears to be a few empty spots which could correlate to the question at the top
of the poster that asks, WHO S ABSENT? and then asks another question at the bottom which is, Is
it you? These two questions are directed at British men (usually between the ages of 18

The Themes Of African American Literature
Within African American Literature, there are many themes that are relatable across many different
forms of media. Paintings, for example, can have similar and contradictory themes to those that are
used in African American Literature. Like authors with their literature, artists too take from their
experiences and opinions and form a creation that is a reflection of what they believe. These
creations, both literature and paintings, can contain certain topics that are quite alike. Ellis Wilson,
and African Americanartist, created a painting that exhibits the theme of spirituality in his painting
Prayerin the Field. This theme can be linked to at least three works from African American
literature that broadens the way readers and spectators of art see spirituality.
In Prayer in the Field, it is not difficult to see that spirituality is a major theme. There are three
elements of this painting that support the theme of spirituality. The first element of this painting
that one notices is the bright colors used. Ellis Wilson, whom is known for his expressive,
emphasis of color, uses warm and inviting colors to create a scene that conveys complete
tranquility (Ellis Wilson). Along with color, the next element is the four figures kneeling in the
field praying. These elongated forms, which Wilson is also known for, are what bring in the
spirituality aspect (Ellis Wilson). The tone of Prayer in the Field created by the colors is what
gives these kneeling figures meaning. The warm

approximately ВЈ2 billion, from airlines such as United, Lufthansa, US Airways and Qatar and
hotels like Hilton, MotelOne, Marriott in Scotland. Additionally, Scotland hosted many events this
year e.g. the Commonwealth Games, Ryder Cup at Gleneagles, Homecoming Scotland 2014 or the
MTV European Music Awards at Glasgow s SSE Hydro. Because of the high amount of
conferences and events, the profile among international markets has raised. The Visit Scotland
Conference Bid Fund revealed information that 46 international association conferences have been
secured until 2021. Among them are all types of conferences such as food/drinks trade shows,
science/educational conferences or topics like renewable energies. From this it follows that the year
2014 was only the start for a flourishing business tourismsector in Scotland. In the first quarter this
year there were 90.000 trips made by international business travelers. Compared to the same period
in 2013, there is an increase of about 4%. The number of domestic overnight business tourism trips
is 493.000 which is again higher than in 2013. When comparing the spent per trip and per night, the
international business tourists spend roughly ВЈ200 more than domestic business travelers per trip
and ВЈ30 more per night. They also stay on average one night

Book review of The Original Argument
Bibliography
Beck, Glenn, and Joshua Charles. The Original Argument: The Federalists Case for theConstitution,
Adapted for the 21st Century. New York: Threshold Editions, 2011. Print.
398 pages Summary
Instead of the Beck and Charles telling a story of a significant person to make a point the Authors
discussed the original argument for the United States Constitution. The argument was originally
written by the federalists in the late 18th century. These historical documents are commonly
referred to as the federalist papers. Beck and Charles go over seven different topics and arguments
discussed in the federalist papers.
Part One: Novus ordo seclorum: A New Order For the Ages is all about the new way of thinking
once the colonies declared independence from England. It discussed how new concepts were
being introduced and why a new order was needed for that particular time. In fact Alexander
Hamilton sounded a lot like Abraham Lincoln. Abraham Lincoln s main objective as president
was also to preserve the Union. Hamilton wrote, Nothing remains as obvious as the fact that either
the new Constitution will be adopted or the Union will be torn apart. It is therefore necessary to
examine the advantages of the Union, as well as the evils and dangers that would result from its
disbanding. (Beck and Charles 4) Alexander Hamilton (who wrote many of the federalist

Spov Report Paper
Board of Visitor Members,
Since the September 14 BOV Report, the Student Government Association (SGA) has been hard at
work assessing and representing the concerns of the student body. SGA members have attended
events such as the Student Activities and Engagement Open House, UMW s Campus Roundtable
Discussion with Governor McAuliffe s Civic Engagement Task Force, the Town and Gown
Committee Meetings, and the UMW Young Alumni Council Meetings.
As mentioned in the September 14 SGA BOV Report, a main priority I have set for the Executive
Cabinet for the 2017 2018 year is to review and update the Student Government Association
Constitution. The current constitution was last revised on January 26, 2010. It is important to

The task force will meet from October till the end of the Fall semester. The outcome of the task
force will result in a report that will elaborate on their recommendations. Currently, the task force is
conducting focus groups of Executive Cabinet and of student body members on the proposed
changes. The task force will present their recommendations to Student Senate at the beginning of
the Spring 2018 semester. I have copied a brief progress report from the task force chairperson,
Matthew Good, below:
The SGA worked with Director of Student Activities Engagement, Ethan Feuer, to discuss adding
all undergraduate students to the SGA portal on MyUMW. We have successfully added all current
undergraduate students SGA portal on MyUMW. From this point onward, SAE will work with the
SGA to add all the current undergraduate students to the portal each semester to keep membership
accurate.
Using our new communication abilities on the SGA Portal through MyUMW, the SGA was able to
conduct a survey to students regarding President Paino s draft of An Investment of Hope for the
Future: A Strategic Vision for the Universityof Mary Washington. We received a total of 86
submissions that contained feedback about the proposed vision. Overall, the feedback about the
main goals was positive. I have attached a formal report about the survey at the

The Four Quartets Poem Analysis
The four quartets
The Four Quartets, a combination of poems from 1935 to 1940. It was Eliot s last great work as
a poet and playwright. All four poems have a steady theme, time. In the four poems Burnt Norton,
East Coker, The Dry Salvages, and Little Gidding all relate to time. He states how it time can
never move fast enough but always to fast when he wants it move slower. He states this this theme
in three totally different settings. Burnt Norton is about air, East Coker being on land. And the Dry
Salvages taking place hypocritically in the water. But, T.S. Eliot uses beliefs, experiences, and
circumstances to convey the importance of time in all of these sections of the poem, The Four
Quartets. To begin, his experiences influenced his writing heavily in this poem. In the Dry
Salvages, the fourth stanza is T.S praying for the people who s occupation deals with the water.
T.S refers bank to when he was a kid in WW1 and prays for the women who had husbands in the
Navy during that time. As if time could never pass by quick enough. He writes Repeat a prayer
also on behalf of Women who have seen their sons and husbands. Setting forth, and not returning
back. Figlia de tuo figlio, queen of heaven ( T.S. Eliot). His experiences as a child heavily
influenced that part of the poem and feeds the main theme of how time can never seen to be on
your side. Also a lot of writings include dark, shady, gloomy settings in the Four Quartets. A lot of
this was influenced by his physical

The Language Learning Of The Infants
Less than 1 percent of American adults today are proficient in a foreign language that they studied
in a U.S. classroom, states Friedman in the Atlantic. That s noteworthy considering that in 2008
almost all high schools in the country 93 percent offered foreign languages (Friedman). This is
because of, as Marshall notes, widespread belief that adults will inevitably have problems and will
certainly never become fluent, while children are supposed to pick up languages with ease .
However, study after study has shown the procedure of languagelearning of the infants. The
essential elements of learning a language lie in your ears and the way you process to the language.
Although there is a widespread myth in learning a language children aquire a language much easier
than adults do the innate ability of adults language acquisitionare basically as same as that of
children s.
(Listening and speaking) Adults have hard time understanding what people are saying in a foreign
language. They think they don t know what they are saying because of their lack of vocabulary, but
it turns out they cannot even understand a word that they know when it comes into a sentence. They
are so desperated and think it s too late for them to acquire it. However, this phenomena you cannot
catch the language is pretty normal. As the first step of the language acquisition, the infants tune
their ears to make their ears perceptual to the language. Marcia Barinaga in the journal Science

Amplified Musculoskeletal Pain Syndrome (AMPS)
What is amplified musculoskeletal pain syndrome (AMPS)? By definition amplified
musculoskeletal pain syndrome is A medical condition in which an individual develops an
abnormal pain reflex. This overactive reflex causes constriction of blood vessels which deprives
oxygen to muscles, bones and skin causing lactic acid build up. In turn, a mild pain signal is
amplified into a very painful signal. The pain can be consistent or intermittent (Providence ). Each
case of this chronic illness is different in various ways. Patients can experience pain in different
parts of their body and at different pain levels. A common system that is seen in children with
AMPS is allodynia. Allodynia is when it hurts to be touched and it doesn t matter how light... Show

On average, the program is three to four weeks, but it depends on the patient. The longest they
have had someone is eleven weeks. RAPS consists of different therapies like: art, music,
physical, occupational, pool, and group. A normal day would start by having to be at the
hospital at 7:30, this is so vitals can be taken before pool. Pool will drag on for an hour and after
pool patients will walk to a different building to begin their days. Next up will be either physical or
occupational therapy. In the morning is when timed activities happen. Timed activities are 14
different activities the patients have to do everyday. The object is to beat the time from the day
before, you have to complete the activity until you beat the time. In between each session there
is a two minute break where the patients are able to lay down and do breathing exercises. After
lunch, there is another session of PT and OT. One time during the day a patient has flex time or
free time where they don t have anything to do, but they have to stay active. Music therapy
happens in place of pool on fridays and art therapy happens once a week. At the end of the day
there is either yoga or breathing exercises. During the last week of RAPS you have an outing
where you re able to pick somewhere to visit (in walking distance). This is so the doctors can see
how your body would react to having a day out. They also have a mock school day to see how
they would handle a normal day. During RAPS the schools aren t allowed to send their students

The Major Causes Of The Boxer Rebellion
The boxer rebellionв€’the fight between China and Western countriesв€’has been a debate since
the end of 1901. Many people have been wondering how the war happened and what were the
reasons that lead to it. While some people think that Western foreigners were the reason, others feel
that Chinese themselves was the cause of the controversy. This paper mainly supports the claim that
suggested the true major causes of the boxer rebellion, and refutes the point that the new
technologies and innovations that the West had introduced was the reason why the war happened.
It will define three main causes that leaded to the boxer uprising which were the personal beliefs of
Chinese people, the support from Qing dynasty, and the rise of Christianity. As the... Show more

To clarify, after the end of the second Opium wars, as China suffered defeat, Qing dynasty, the
ruler of China, had to pay war reparations, which were 8 million taels of silver apiece, granting
civil rights and rights to own property to Western people, and lastly, approving freedom of
religion in China (Sheng Shaw, 2007). From this point, foreigners were allowed to own
properties, which they built churches afterwards, and missionaries were able to spread their
religion everywhere in China. However, these actions had destroyed Chinese people s lands, and
agitated them. For example, in October 1898, the boxers first attack was the Catholic Church,
which was converted from the temple to Jade Emperor by Western priests. Because of the temple
that had been converted was a sacred place for Chinese people, they got dissatisfied by the West s
action and felt that they had to dismiss their intruders (Preston, 2000). Moreover, as the famous
actions called Juye Incident that the Chinese fighters took on Christianity, which was murdering 2
German priests, had stimulated Western rulers to take a revenge on China. Meanwhile, according to
George M. Stenz, who was the priest at the Church where Juye Incident was located, he stated that
the two priests that were killed had suffered many wounds caused by knives and both of them died
instantly (Stenz, 2013). When Western rulers had heard about the

Why Gun Violence Is Not Become America s New Normal Essay
There has been a rise on the topic of gun violence. It has become a more relevant topic today and
one cannot walk away from the news without hearing a story related to gun violence either being
covered or displayed on the teleprompter below. This paper will analyze three sources: an article
written by Dov Cohen, titled Culture, Social Organization, and Patterns of Violence, on the trends
of violence based on location, a Ted Talk given by Dan Gross, titled Why Gun
Violence Cannot
become America s New Normal, on the topic of gun violence and how it affected his life as well a
proposition to ending violence in the U.S, and an article, Analyzing Available Data Could Help
Improve Background Checks Involving Domestic Violence Records, written by the U.S.
Government of Accountability Office(GAO) which covers the process of background checks
within the sales of firearms. These three sources will be evaluated on the bases that they evoke a
strong argument with the use ethos, pathos, and logos within their writings.
In Cohen s article, Culture, Social Organization, and Patterns of Violence, he examined a study,
based on the use of violence. Whether it was seen as more culturally appropropriate within South
and West communities as opposed to less violence seen in tighter, more organized states within the
North, he stated that it is a trend of commonplace within these areas and communities following this
norm as it is part of that area s culture( Culture par. 4.) He cites that

Plastic Persuasive Speech
Yes, you read that correctly. Currently, I am trying to cut plastic out of my life, and so is
Charleston. Why, you ask? There are so many reasons, but I ll start with this:
By the year 2050, there will be more plastic in the ocean than fish.
Yes, you read that correctly.
Here s the scoop
Plastic never, ever, ever, ever, ever goes away. It will continue to break down, but it will never
fully decompose. What does this mean for our ocean? It means that more and more plastic is getting
into our waterways and ocean life is consuming the plastic, thinking it is food. Unfortunately, they
are being poisoned by our trash. They are also consuming it, and think about this, then we eat that
fish, which means we are consuming the plastic YUCK!
How is plastic getting into our oceans in such large quantities? Some of it is coming from boats, but
this is a very small quantity. Most of it is simply coming from littering. This means littering on the
beach, on our streets, etc. Think about how our litter gets blown into the sewer...then it eventually
makes it way into the ocean.
So, what can you do to cut out plastic? First, start looking around you. Becoming aware of how
much plastic you encounter on a daily basis is a huge eye opener. Plastic is everywhere. There is
the the plastic that helps you (medical equipment, your car, etc.). Then, there is one time use,
convenient plastics (straws, styrofoam containers, plastic bags/baggies, etc.).
Once you start becoming aware of what

Japanese in American culture were viewed by the public and the other part on the way the
Americans were viewed by the Japanese in their culture. Each chapter in Dower s book is titled
in a way so that they describe how the Japanese and Americans were viewed by each other s

Americans were also viewed very poorly while in the Japanese public culture. Race played a very
large role in the war in the Pacific during WWII. The Japanese were identified with animals most
commonly apes or vermin; and the Americans were identified as demons by the Japanese. The

Punishment and Sentencing Paper
Punishment and Sentencing Paper
CJA/224
Garrett LeGrange
September 17, 2010
There are many different philosophies that are in use in the court systems when determining what
sort of punishment will be imposed on someone who is found guilty of committing a crime. These
philosophies are in use in both the adult courts and juvenile courts. The juvenile court system is
similar to the adult courts, but there are many differences between the two. Both court systems try
and keep crime from happening and both courts sentence those found guilty to some sort of
punishment through the punishment philosophy that the court determines is a suitable approach
for preventing future crime. Deterrence is the first punishment philosophy. Deterrence is ... Show

This philosophy s thought is that the victim of a crime is part of the sentencing process. This means
that persons found guilty of committing crimes must compensate the victim of their crime.
Restoration is the attempt to make the victims of crimes whole again. This philosophy makes the
attempt to make someone guilty of a crime actually pay for their crime to the victim. The juvenile
court system has a higher concentration on rehabilitating offenders so that they do not end up in
adult courts. In the juvenile system, rehabilitation is the most used philosophy so that the children
in the courts may have the opportunity to live a life outside of prison. Adult courts do try and
rehabilitate those that are found guilty of committing crimes, but more often than not, rehabilitation
is combined with incarceration. Adult courts also differ from juvenile courts because in adult courts
there is a presentation of evidence to try and determine guilt. Juvenile courts on the other hand
examine the actions of a juvenile and try and determine how to rehabilitate the individual. The
sanctions that serve as a guide for judges are probably one of the most important tools that can be
used in courts. Adult and juvenile courts can both use sanctions to their advantage. When sanctions
are used properly, they can be a very good deterrent for those thinking about committing a crime.
These sanctions can be many different things assigned to crimes to help and deter

Extending The Usage Of Refrigerants On Cooling Systems (...
John Wilkinson Christopher Lessick ENG 111 19 November 2016 Extending the usage of
refrigerants in cooling systems (TBD Words) Imagine sitting at home in the middle of July.
Now, imagine if that day had a high temperature of over 100 degrees, and a heat index of over
115 degrees. If you are living in the United States, then you are probably imagining yourself
sitting in a room with some sort of air conditioning system keeping you cool. That comfort,
however, comes at a price. In 1985, it was discovered that chlorofluorocarbons (CFC s), one of the
main refrigerants used in air conditioning systems, played a substantial role in the depletion of the
ozone layer (Farman, Gardiner and Shanklin). CFC s were ultimately banned as a means of
refrigeration, which ushered in the next generation of coolant types known as hydrofluorocarbons
(HFC s). Unfortunately, systems using these HFCs, however, make a moderate contribution to
global warming because of their efficiency and low emission rates. (Sand, Fisher and Baxter, P.E.).
While addressing the issue of the ozone layer, HFCs initiated a new set problems themselves,
including having an increased Global Warming Potential (GWP). Despite the negative
environmental impacts of the past, the use of refrigerants in home cooling systems should continue.
Beginning in the late 1800 s, air conditioning systems have been a part of everyday living. From
through the window air conditioners to centralized duct systems, nearly every home built in

Neocolonialism During the Porfiriato
Necolonialism During the Porfiriato
In the early sixteenth century, Spain conquered Mexico and turned it into one of their most
lucrative colonies. In the search for land, labor and natural resources, Spain found everything they
were looking for in Mexico. During the colonial period, Mexico was simply another kingdom of
the vast Spanish Empire. As Spain largely benefited, the indigenous civilizations of Mexico were
ravaged and left to be entirely dependent on their foreign counterpart. It wasn t until the
independence movement in the early nineteenth century that Mexico seemed to have some hope of
being released from the hands of imperialism. Unfortunately, following independence, Mexico
suffered from a half a century of economic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although he was right, the economic boom came with severe consequences that left Mexico
largely dependent on the United States. Mexico s economy boomed during the thirty year
presidency of Porfirio Diaz, known as the Porfiriato. The majority of Mexican profits came from
the export of natural resources including mining, petroleum, and agriculture. With the
development of the railway system, these industries flourished. Before the railroads, mule
transportation was too expensive; this made only gold or silver worth the effort. Now the
production of copper, zinc and lead were made more profitable. By 1911, Mexico was the third
greatest petroleum producing nation. However,, these industries were owned by the United States.
In order to finance the cost of construction for the railroads, Diaz gave land to foreign developers.
This led to the commercialization of ranching and farming. U.S. investors benefited from the
export trade of resources such as cotton, rubber, garbanzos, fine woods and coffee. By doing so,
many peasants lost their land. By the end of the nineteenth century, the growth of railroads was
incredible. In 1910, the railroad system totaled over 24,000 miles, which was twenty four times the
amount they had in 1880. Although it was a dependent economy, the Mexican trade value grew by
900% during the Porfiriato. The landowners benefitted immensely from the railroads that increased
their property value. Furthermore, workers and city dwellers were given

Francisco De Goya Research Paper
It is often said that losing one sense causes the others to sharpen. Undoubtedly one of history s
great artists in regards to painting and etching, Francisco de Goya is no exception to this legend.
The images created after his brush with death that left him deaf, and especially those painted
during the final years of his life known as the Black Paintings , certainly suggest that his vision
grew keener with the loss of his hearing. A closer look at his career proves that Goya always
possessed a keen eye for depicting people and the world around him as they truly were, even
before disease stripped him of his hearing. From his earliest tapestry cartoons to his politically
charged depictions of the Peninsular War, Goya s paintings and etchings express a brash approach
through which he unveils the folly, foolishness, and cruelty of mankind... Show more content on

  • 2. Love vs. Lust in Andrew Marvell s Poem, To His Coy... I know that there is a unique difference between love and lust. In the Andrew Marvell poem To His Coy Mistress, I would argue over the issue of love versus lust. In this poem, we are introduced to a man who is infatuated with a young woman and wants to become intimate with her. He tries to pursue this young woman, but the woman is playfully hesitant. The man is trying to explain to the young woman if she keeps being resistant to him, they would never get a chance become intimate. Could it be that the man really does have true lovefor the young woman? Or is that he is just lusting for her gentle touch? In the first stanza of this poem, the man begins by expressing his feelings for the young woman. He starts off by trying to flatter ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As we start the second part of the poem, the man begins to discuss the amount of time the woman and he both have left on this earth. The man states in first couple of lines, But at my back I always hear time s winged chariot hurrying near. The man is trying to tell the woman that they should not wait to embrace each other physically because no one is here on this earth forever. The man describes to the woman that all they will have left in the end is the grave. In the final part of the stanza, the man says The grave s a fine and private place, but none I think do there embrace. The man is trying to explain to the young woman that though the grave is a fairly private place, they will not be able to make love because they are no longer here on this earth. He also states that in the end he will no longer have the feelings he has for her now because his time here on earth will be done for. At this particular part of the poem, I would say that the man is using anything in his power to convince the young woman to sleep with him. The man seems very lustful at this point, so the love that the man somewhat conveyed for the young woman at the beginning of the poem has slowly drifted away. In the final section of the poem, the man goes from loving the woman forever, to saying that there is no time left here on this earth and that they should make love as soon ... • 3. Essay On Interracial Dating Interracial and Cross Cultural Dating of Generation Y Interracial romance has been an issue in the United States since the first English settlers established colonies during the seventeenth century. Over the years, views toward interracial relationships in America have changed greatly. The interracial datingtrend among today s teenagers is increasing at a steady rate (Grapes 49). However, there are still many biases facing Gen Y youth who choose to date someone of another race. A look at the history of interracial romance in the United States will shed light on today s attitudes. In the 1600s, Maryland banned interracial relationships between whites and slaves due to the questions over whether the offspring would be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... On one occasion, the man was mobbed and nearly lost his life (Landau 3). Even decades later, white society seemed determined to prevent interracial romances in most instances. A variety of obstacles were used to prohibit these relationships. Many social scientists in the past focused on the supposed pathological aspects of the interracial relationship, and they assumed that anyone involved in such a relationship must be disturbed in some way. In one case, a young white woman s grandmother had her placed in a mental institution after the young woman announced her engagement to an African American (Landau 5). When a young black man named Leroy Gardner enrolled in Bethel College in St. Paul, Minnesota, in 1943, he had to sign a formal agreement promising not to socialize with the white females on campus. Social scientists have observed many justifications for black white relationships, such as the need to rebel against parents or society; a passion for the exotic or forbidden fruit, the blacks desire to get even with the dominant culture, or whites desire to atone for past racism (Majete 10). In 1967, Loving v. Virginia cleared all legal barriers to interracial marriagesand relationships. This legislation made it legal to marry interracially, but many people weren t willing to accept these relationships. For instance, in 1994 a white principal named Hulond Humphries caused uproar at Teaneck High in Wedowee, Alabama that caught the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Scientists have yet to produce any evidence to suggest that sexual orientation is determined by a particular factor or factors.(Sexual Orientation Homosexuality) It is even said that most people have little to no choice when its comes to sexual orientation . If someone can truly change or choose if they are gay or lesbian or straight would it not be easy for them to just come out and say that they are not gay anymore? Correct, they can say that they don t feel an attraction to the same sex but most of the time it wouldn t be true. If people could actually choose color it should be easy to change this for the ones who do attempt to do so. People who are gay or lesbian describe their attraction as something more than just choice, it is a feeling, a deep attraction and just can t be turned off when they feel like it. Conversion therapy is just what it sounds like. This therapy is an attempt to make a child straight. To show them that being gay is a choice. conversion therapy is essentially putting out that It s your fault that you re gay. You chose to live this life but, I can help you! • 5. Economists Estimate Wealth And Poverty Bishoui Fahim Prof, Brian Curtis English Comp 2 April 23, 2016 Wealth and Poverty Economists estimate wealth and poverty in many ways. The most three common measures are income, possessions (accumulated wealth in the form of money, securities, and real estate), and socioeconomic metrics. Actions in the last category go beyond financial data to account for health, food, infant mortality, sanitation, and other phases of human well being. Usually, wealth and poverty measured regarding income. Information on income is readily available, credible, and relevant, particularly in discussing poverty in the United States, wherever the inherited wealth is a small factor, and most people live on wages and salaries. It s beneficial to think of wealth and poverty about one another. That s because income inequality is truly the underlying issue in poverty, particularly in developed countries. In the economic talk, income inequality indicates to the variation of revenue between and among several groups of people and households in an economy. • 6. Reflection On Marketing Simulation For the past couple of weeks, I engaged in a marketing simulation. This Simulation was extremely fun while challenging as it taught me the right way to advertise and market a new brand, specifically a computer, that you are putting out to the world. The targeted markets were Chicago, Sao Paulo, Paris, and Shanghai. There were three different segments that were related to PC s and laptops. Those three were Mercedes, Workhorse, and Traveler. Below, I am going to mention what specific decisions I made in each of the six quarters as well as why I made each decision. Quarter 1 2 Since quarter one was the first quarter of this simulation, I was unaware of how difficult it was going to be to make all the different decisions. Firstly, I had to choose a Company name. Because I was selling computers, I thought that the name Dev Tech was a perfect fit being that this simulation was about development and technology. Next, I had to choose a target segment. I knew going into this simulation that it would be better to invest in the more expensive goods as it would benefit me in the end. The segment that didn t care about price was Mercedes, so that is the segment that I made my first priority. Next, I had to choose what responsibility I wanted to have with the company. I chose to be president because the president has advantage of having overall leadership. Finally, I had to open a sales office. • 9. A Comparison Of Superman And Me By Sherman Alexie Throughout literature many pieces of work can be compared and contrasted to each other. In Superman and Me, Sherman Alexie discusses the challenges he faced as a young Indian adult, who found his passion of reading at an early age, living on the Spokane Indian Reservation. He challenged the stereotype of the young Indian students who were thought to be uneducated while living on a reservation. Likewise, in the excerpt from The Hunger of Memory, Richard Rodriguez shares his similar experience of being a minority and trying to break stereotypes of appearing uneducated. He shares the details of his life growing up learning a different culture and the struggles he faced becoming assimilated into American culture. In these two specific pieces of literature discuss the importance of breaking stereotypes of social and educational American standards and have similar occupational goals; on the other hand the two authors share their different familyrelationships. A large similarity between the two works of literature consist of the journey of breaking certain standards of education particularly in people of color. In the essay Superman and Me, Alexie grew up on the Spokane Indian Reservation where to a non Indian adult the expectation of the Indian students were very low. With these exceptions set at such a low standard the desire to give students a proper education were extremely limited. Malala Yousafzai is a young girl born on July 12, 1997, in the city, Mingora in Pakistan. She fought for something that is she is passionate about. Heroes are people who stand up for something, they are courageous, they are noble and they are loyal to something they stand for. Malala is known as the fifteen year old girl who got shot because she fought for women s rights and education. This young girl named Malala is brave, persistent, and influential. One of the reasons why Malala is a hero because she shows courage and bravery through her actions. First of all, Malala kept going to her school even though death threats kept coming to her and to her family. • 12. The Mexican Revolution Essay The Mexican Revolution The Mexican Revolution was the culmination of a mass of political, economic, and social tension that accompanied the regime of the dictator Porfirio Diaz. The Revolution began with the aims to overthrow Diaz, but the Revolution had a pronounced effect on the organization of Mexico s government, economy, and society. Porfirio Diaz was the president of Mexico when the Revolution broke out. He was elected in 1877, and although he swore to step down in 1880, he continued to be reelected until 1910. He claimed that he was justified in this because he brought stability to Mexico. However, this was hardly the case. After Diaz had won by a landslide, he released Madero from prison. Madero promptly fled to San Antonio, Texas to plan a revolution. There he wrote the Plan of St. Luis Potosi, which said that the election was fraudulent and that he was the provisional president of Mexico. The plan was purely political and Madero planned to have a completely democratic government. The plan said nothing about changing the situation for farmers and peasants. However, rural peasants latched onto the plan, thinking that Madero would also reform the country economically and socially. There were many revolutions carried out under Madero s flag, specifically revolutions carried out by Pancho Villa and Emiliano Zapata. Different groups had very different goals for what the Mexican revolution would accomplish. The rural peasants and indigenous people wanted the land to be taken out of the hands of the aristocracy or the elite and have the land be evenly divided between the rural towns. They wanted the territory of their ancestors back because it had been stripped from them during the regime of Porfirio Diaz. They also wanted to be taken out of poverty and to have farming available to them again so that they could sustain their lives and work for their living. Therefore, because the peasants were suffering under the regime of Diaz, they wholeheartedly supported the revolution and everything that came with it. The Roman Catholic Church, ... My mother would always try to trick me into eating by bribing me or telling me that the food would give me powers. I also did not enjoy going to restaurants because I found it boring and since I was not looking forward to the foodit was not a pleasant trip. But now I enjoy eatingand going to restaurants, in fact, I eat more at restaurants than I do at home. Two of my favorite restaurants are Chipotle and Bread Zeppelin Salads Elevated and they have some similarities but also differences. Two similarities between Chipotle and Bread Zeppelin Salads Elevated are food presentation and line service; two differences are the menu and price. The first similarity between Chipotle and Bread Zeppelin Salads Elevated is the food presentation. Chipotle is known for their savory burrito, a tortillafilled with your choice of rice, beans, meat and any extra toppings such as lettuce, cheese, sour cream, all wrapped around in the flour tortilla. After the burrito is wrapped, they hand it to you wrapped around tin foil to keep it warm and fresh. Bread Zeppelin Salads Elevated offers the customer the same choices as chipotle of picking the ingredients and after the ingredients have been chosen, a worker will take all the ingredients and lay them on a cutting board to chop them into small pieces. • 17. The Revolutionary War By David Mccullough Essay 1776 written by David McCullough was a very accurate portrayal of the the revolutionary war. The author chose to write the events with mostly a non biased perspective and was able to use multiple sources from the time. This allowed the author to write the book in an interesting way and inform the reader of this vital time in the nation s history. The book focuses on the life and struggles of George Washingtonas he progresses through life and the war. It was helpful that the author showed his perspective and thoughts as he grew to become the leader many people think him as today. It is stated that George washington was not a very strong leader when he took control on July third, but it was his perseverance and unrelenting determination that ultimately won the war. Also, The author chose to give insight into the other important leaders who influenced how the war progressed through the year. This was not only accomplished by direct quotes but the author also explained why some decisions were made on both sides made the events less complicated. The fact that the author chose to focus of Washington and the troops lives also made it more personal and it helped that the narrative did not jump around to give an overview of the war from all perspectives. The first character that was introduced in the book was George III, King of England. Both writers worked separately when developing the story, only having the main character defined: Charles Foster Kane it is pertinent to say that I think Foster is supposed to be ironic considering his morose childhood . Welles had a rough childhood, which is portrayed in the film, since he came from a broken home and lost his hardworking mother when he was nine. The origins of Kane s personality is sort of like a mixture between allusions to Welles miserable childhood due to his parents divorce, and later the death of his mother in his first ten years of life; and also an exposГ© of William Hearst s life. Hearst is arguably one of the most influential American journalists and main contributor of the creation of yellow journalism basically, headlines with information that had almost no support for its claimings . Kane s character is mainly built out of these two pivotal events, hence his childhood, passion for yellow journalism, and obsession with power over papers. (4) Secondly, the balance of trade, as observed by him, often did little to enhance the wealth of a nation and instead served to create violent national animosity instead. He instead put forth the idea of a balance of annual production and consumption, which if it were unfavourable would have caused a decay of the wealth of a nation. Thirdly, Prof. Smith was a strong critic of the idea of colonialism; stating that, To found a great empire for the sole purpose of raising up a people of customers, may at first sight, appear a project fit only for a nation of shopkeepers. It is, however, a project altogether unfit for a nation of shopkeepers, but extremely fit for a nation whose government is influenced by shopkeepers. • 23. Negotiations With The Dispute Between The Disputants Problem Solving First of all, in order to solve any problem there need to be negotiation techniques established to deal with the dispute between both of the disputants. First, a proper negotiation technique must include the creation of a mutual frame. This frame consist of setting a good tone during the negotiators opening statement. This tone can have two different effects, either there is cooperation or competition (McCorkle Reese, 2015, p 159). There is nothing worse than having set everything up and because of the tone that the mediator has everything fall apart. Second, there needs to be an establishment of criteria in order to have both the disputants establish cooperation. When criteria is established, neither of the disputants can establish their own competiveness, however, when a disputant does establish competitiveness, it is the job of the mitigation to move out of competitiveness and move the discussion to determine the facts (McCorkle Reese, 2015, p159). Some ways to assist the mediator from successfully steering away from competiveness is by asking questions that remind both disputants that the reason they are there is to solve the problem and not cause more tension. Additionally, while some negotiators might employ brainstorminginto the techniques, this is considered optional. However, I do feel that having both disputants brainstorm can assist then with considering both side of the issue when ideas are expressed freely. According to McCorkle and ... Pope Shenouda passed away about four years ago and his episcopate lasted for over 40 years. The Coptic church has commonly been referred to by historians as the Church of the Martyrs (A Brief History of the Christian Church). It was given this name due to the desire of martyrdom rather than the multitude of martyrs. The five main points of its history are the origins of Coptic Orthodox Christianity, monasticism, contributions to Christendom, the ecumenical councils and the church today. It is believed that the Coptic church of Egypt was the first church ever created; it was founded by Saint Mark in approximately 42 AD. (Osman) Saint Mark is also considered to be the first bishop and pope of Alexandria. However, it wasn t until the late second century when Christianity was truly established in Egypt. During the second century the roman emperors had begun to persecute the Coptic Orthodox Christians formerly known as Copts; yet as previously stated these Copts would not hide, instead they would openly worship unafraid of death, because it is said that martyrdom isn t the end of a life, it is believed to be an entry to a new life. The very first persecution against the Copts was in 68 AD when Saint Mark suffered martyrdom by pagan extremists. Then for seven years in the early second century ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Extending Education System Extending the Education System Andy Nesbitt, superintendent of education for the Grand Erie District School Board stated in an interview in 2011, There is no exact way to measure how many students return for a fifth year and the number varies from year to year and at different schools. But, on average, he said that 40% to 50% of high schoolers are returning for an extra year of study (Ruby). Why is this number so high? In 1921, the Ontario government enforced a tremendous idea that would improve the education system. They introduced Grade 13, a fifth grade in high school. The fifth year of high school was known as Grade 13 until 1984, when it was renamed Ontario Academic Credit (OAC). It still acted as the 5th year of high school ... Parents have to understand what would be better for their kids. Something they will never remember, or something which would allow a student to explore the career opportunities and find out what they want to do, to contribute to the world. Emily In Emily Faulkner s A Rose For Emily A Rose for Emily illustrate love, disappointment of life, grief, death, and rejection that Emily has received throughout her life; as a young woman in her time. Emily is not able to be herself in an era where women had an important role in society. She was expected to be the one person that the town wanted. She was expected to be proper, outstanding, and punctual. She wanted to be herself and not have someone always looking over her shoulder. So throughout the story the town people whisper about her in the hopes it wouldn t get back to her. The narrators of this story are from the perspective of how they see her. Emily is different in a time when difference is not ratified or accepted. When Emily finally passed away all of the town went to her funeral, which was held in her home. The last type of star home for the period of time. • 41. The Themes Of African American Literature Within African American Literature, there are many themes that are relatable across many different forms of media. Paintings, for example, can have similar and contradictory themes to those that are used in African American Literature. Like authors with their literature, artists too take from their experiences and opinions and form a creation that is a reflection of what they believe. These creations, both literature and paintings, can contain certain topics that are quite alike. Ellis Wilson, and African Americanartist, created a painting that exhibits the theme of spirituality in his painting Prayerin the Field. This theme can be linked to at least three works from African American literature that broadens the way readers and spectators of art see spirituality. In Prayer in the Field, it is not difficult to see that spirituality is a major theme. There are three elements of this painting that support the theme of spirituality. The first element of this painting that one notices is the bright colors used. Ellis Wilson, whom is known for his expressive, emphasis of color, uses warm and inviting colors to create a scene that conveys complete tranquility (Ellis Wilson). Along with color, the next element is the four figures kneeling in the field praying. These elongated forms, which Wilson is also known for, are what bring in the spirituality aspect (Ellis Wilson). The tone of Prayer in the Field created by the colors is what gives these kneeling figures meaning. The warm ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Beck and Charles go over seven different topics and arguments discussed in the federalist papers. Part One: Novus ordo seclorum: A New Order For the Ages is all about the new way of thinking once the colonies declared independence from England. It discussed how new concepts were being introduced and why a new order was needed for that particular time. In fact Alexander Hamilton sounded a lot like Abraham Lincoln. Abraham Lincoln s main objective as president was also to preserve the Union. Hamilton wrote, Nothing remains as obvious as the fact that either the new Constitution will be adopted or the Union will be torn apart. It is therefore necessary to examine the advantages of the Union, as well as the evils and dangers that would result from its disbanding. All four poems have a steady theme, time. In the four poems Burnt Norton, East Coker, The Dry Salvages, and Little Gidding all relate to time. He states how it time can never move fast enough but always to fast when he wants it move slower. He states this this theme in three totally different settings. Burnt Norton is about air, East Coker being on land. And the Dry Salvages taking place hypocritically in the water. But, T.S. Eliot uses beliefs, experiences, and circumstances to convey the importance of time in all of these sections of the poem, The Four Quartets. To begin, his experiences influenced his writing heavily in this poem. In the Dry Salvages, the fourth stanza is T.S praying for the people who s occupation deals with the water. He writes Repeat a prayer also on behalf of Women who have seen their sons and husbands. Setting forth, and not returning back. Figlia de tuo figlio, queen of heaven ( T.S. Eliot). The juvenile court system has a higher concentration on rehabilitating offenders so that they do not end up in adult courts. Adult courts do try and rehabilitate those that are found guilty of committing crimes, but more often than not, rehabilitation is combined with incarceration. John Wilkinson Christopher Lessick ENG 111 19 November 2016 Extending the usage of refrigerants in cooling systems (TBD Words) Imagine sitting at home in the middle of July. Now, imagine if that day had a high temperature of over 100 degrees, and a heat index of over 115 degrees. If you are living in the United States, then you are probably imagining yourself sitting in a room with some sort of air conditioning system keeping you cool. That comfort, however, comes at a price. In 1985, it was discovered that chlorofluorocarbons (CFC s), one of the main refrigerants used in air conditioning systems, played a substantial role in the depletion of the ozone layer (Farman, Gardiner and Shanklin). CFC s were ultimately banned as a means of refrigeration, which ushered in the next generation of coolant types known as hydrofluorocarbons (HFC s). Unfortunately, systems using these HFCs, however, make a moderate contribution to global warming because of their efficiency and low emission rates. (Sand, Fisher and Baxter, P.E.). While addressing the issue of the ozone layer, HFCs initiated a new set problems themselves, including having an increased Global Warming Potential (GWP). Despite the negative environmental impacts of the past, the use of refrigerants in home cooling systems should continue. Although he was right, the economic boom came with severe consequences that left Mexico largely dependent on the United States. Mexico s economy boomed during the thirty year presidency of Porfirio Diaz, known as the Porfiriato. The majority of Mexican profits came from the export of natural resources including mining, petroleum, and agriculture. With the development of the railway system, these industries flourished. Before the railroads, mule transportation was too expensive; this made only gold or silver worth the effort. Now the production of copper, zinc and lead were made more profitable. By 1911, Mexico was the third greatest petroleum producing nation. However,, these industries were owned by the United States. In order to finance the cost of construction for the railroads, Diaz gave land to foreign developers. This led to the commercialization of ranching and farming.
