9 by E.E. Cummings Analysis Essay
9 by E.E. Cummings
Edward Estlin Cummings was a unique poet with an equally unique writing style. E.E. Cummings
was born on October 14th, 1894 in Cambridge, Massachusetts. In 1916, Cummings graduated with
a master s degree from Harvard University. During his studies, he was subject to many great writers
such as Gertrude Stein and Ezra Pound. After working for five months as a volunteer ambulance
driver in World War I, he was captured by French authorities. He was accused on accounts of
espionage. After the war, he settled into a life in which he bounced around from houses in rural
Connecticut and Greenwich Village. He also traveled through Europe meeting various poets and
artists, including Pablo Picasso. During his life, Cummings won a ... Show more content on

In the way he conveys this, it s clear that he feels time is moving very slowly. In the third stanza,
We do not wind it up, it has no weights, spring wheels inside of its slender self, no indeed dear
nothing of the kind (Cummings Web), Cummings creates vivid imagery. This shows that
Cummings is relating how he has no use for a clock and doesn t care for the principle of keeping
time. He would rather live life time free, without having to worry about being on time or being late.
The third and final poetic device that shows up in the poem, 9 , is symbolism. To begin the
poem Cummings uses symbolism. The number 9 refers to the number of times he uses the
words, tic toc , toc tic , tic tic , toc , and tic . Also, as seen in the fourth stanza, So when kiss
spring comes, we ll kiss each kiss other on kiss the kiss lips because the tic clocks toc don t
make a toc tic difference to kiss kiss you and to kiss me (Cummings Web). Cummings uses the
word kiss to complicate and clutter the verse. If you remove those words, he simply summarizes
all of his thoughts in the last stanza. He says when spring comes; we can kiss because the clocks
don t make a difference to you and me. This symbolizes that Cummings can t wait for the spring
and summer months when the clocks don t play a role in his life.
In conclusion, Cummings uses his poem 9 to relay his feeling to time. He feels that

Violent Video Games and Their Impact on Children
Violent Video Games and Their Impact on Children
Outline
Introduction
A. Thesis: Although there are some reports of such games terribly impacting children, most
research says that the violence in them is understood to be unrealistic, and thus not internalized and
regurgitated back through increased aggressiveness in behavior.
Reports Showing Violent Video Games Increase Aggression
Exposure to violent video games has been lined to increases in aggression.
Such reports have linked violent video games to both short and long term impacts
Reports Showing Little Impact on Children and Teens
However, more convincing evidence shows that it is only very young children who are affected,
and that older children and teens are relatively unaffected by the violence in their video games.
The reports which show stronger correlations are often flawed.
Even federal government research has failed to find a statistically significant correlation between
increased aggression and violence in video games.
Conclusion
Overall, violence in video games does not seem to impact children as negatively as many had
previously assumed. Violent Video Games and Their Impact on Children
How much is too much? When children are exposed to bloodshed and carnage in their favorite
video games is that too much for them to handle? There are definitely conflicting viewpoints on
just how much violence in video games impact children. Some believe that violence in video games
increases aggression and

The Prospect Of A Two State Nation Solution For Israel...
The Israel Palestine conflict is one of the most long term, pressing, and largely confounding social,
political, and national quandaries of our age. Since we have been moving with surprising velocity
into the vast horizons of globalization, the conflict has built up tremendous momentum and has
called into question the adequacy of our current attempts at coming to a peaceful resolution that can
simultaneously and successfully address both sides of the struggle. The purpose of this paper has
been to understand the prospect of a two state nation solution for Israeland Palestine. The
discussion arises a retrospective view of the context behind the present analysis. We begin with a
discourse that informs the reader of the historical narrative between the Jewish inhabitants of Israel
and the Palestinians who also seek to live in the lands which comprise Israel. At the forefront of the
discussion are some key issues such as trends in Israeli settlementexpansion over time, the manner
in which these settlements create political challenges towards the prospect of a two state solution,
and the fragmentation of power within Palestinian political parties which inhibit the opportunity for
proper negotiations amongst the two parties. Finally, we delve into a discussion on nationalism, it s
importance in the discussion of a two state solution, and the challenges posed when trying to
formulate US Foreign Policy towards the matter.

Isaac Sherrill Biography
One day a miracle happened, I, Isaac Sherrill, was born! I was born on March 9, 2003. A long
time ago, I know. I thought I would write an autobiography so I could tell people about myself, but
also to entertain a little.
I was born in Fort Wayne, Indiana and I was the first child of my family. When I was one we
moved to Arizona for a year. Then when we moved back to Indiana my sister was born, and now
I have three brothers and three sisters. My life has taken taken some twists and turns and now I
live in Grand Rapids, Michigan as a manager of agents for artists, performers and athletes.
When I was two we moved to Council Bluffs, Iowa where my dad took a job as a pastor. When I
was going to preschool one of my friends was Jonah ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I got a lot of recognition working there because people knew who I was from playing basketball. I
made about $15,000 working out there which fortunately was enough to get by. My college
experience was amazing and I m thankful for my time there.
I was seen as a smart, young, athletic coming out of college and with some convincing I got a
position managing agents of athletes, performers, and artists. I made $120,000 with that job
which was great especially because this was my first big job. Through the years I have been
working my way up the ranks. I hope that one day I will be able to do something big like being the
CEO of Nike or something like that as I said earlier.
I live in Grand Rapids, MI because I have always loved the city, but most of all, all the opportunities
it offers for me and my family. I bought a very nice house straight off after college which I reside in
to this day. I also drive a nice Range Rover Evoque which had been my dream car since I was a
little boy. But I most enjoy having season tickets to the MSU basketball season, the very college
I graduated from. Looking back on my life I thank God for everything he has blessed me with. In
the future I hope to be able to impact people s lives in a big way such as possibly opening a
hospital or something like that (obviously that s a ways down the road). But in the meantime I ll
be out here in Grand Rapids, MI devoting my life to God

As people go through life, they most likely come upon a person who affects their life for the
better, and sends them in the right direction. For some, however, they may never have a person
who gives them this push, or perhaps someone had the opportunity to be that person who does the
pushing, but does not. Many people have been propelled to success because of the care of another
person. Some of these positive influences may include a parent, minister, or a friend. Though all
three of these persons embody the needs of everybody from time to time, it is the teacher who

I think that teaching a student to have a good character is more important that reading, writing,
and arithmetic. I think the greatest profession that a person will endeavor upon is that of a parent.
Most of the students that go through my classroom will become parents one day, and I want them
to have the character that is needed to raise a child in the right ways. I believe that character
development is the greatest reward of an education. I want students to look to me as a model of a
good person. I think that is the greatest reward that a teacher can achieve. The feeling of someone
going out learning how to be a good person and doing it based upon my actions is priceless, and
will benefit more many more than I may ever know about.
My classroom methods would mostly resemble a traditional classroom in that there is a certain
base of knowledge that students should learn before they can move on. I agree with the
essentialist theory because I think that there is much to be learned from the classical material. It
has stood the test of time and much of today s society is based around it. I do not however want
to be a lecture dominated instructor. In college I have grown to like lecture classrooms because I
have the discipline to follow the teacher and take notes, but when I was in high school a lecture
class bored me and I would be daydreaming within five minutes. I think there should be variety in
presenting the essential knowledge. Along with

The Objectification Of Women By Kenneth Clark
For centuries, the objectification of women has become the norm, forever portraying them as
submissive and passive for the benefit of the male gaze. Eternally capsulated in a world,
perfected, unanimously the viewer and viewed alike. Jenny Saville defies expectations in creating
the female nude with herself as both subject and painter. Taking on the roles given to women by
men and making them her own, Saville elevates the status of women by making them their own
judge of beauty. Kenneth Clark, a renowned art historian of his time, believed to create a form of
art, the nude must be reformed and not directly recorded from life. In doing so, scouring away all
evidence of the womanbefore the painting, before being perfected.

To achieve this, the body must be abstracted, becoming a process of designing the ideal figure
through mutating and etching away any flaws of the sitter. [The nude is] a balance, prosperous,
and confident body: the body reformed (1956:3) conveying that a woman must be scoured of all
imperfections to be confident in her own right. However, Saville contradicts this by almost
aggressively painting her flaws, baring herself to all and reviling in her own nakedness. Proving
further the empowerment, a woman can feel upon taking control of how others perceive her. Yet,
Saville s pride in her state of nakedness is condemned to vanity, not allowing her to feel entitled to
the entity of her body. Berger agrees, calling out men for their hypocrisy in moulding women to
view themselves being viewed all to justify the creation of the female nude. Morally condemning
the woman whose nakedness you have depicted for your own pleasure (1972:51), Berger calls into
question the male gaze and the liberties men have taken in portraying women nude, only for them
to be shamed in their nakedness. Setting into motion the trend that women are to be ashamed of
their body without clothes. Clark further creates insecurities, conveying to women that to be naked
is to be deprived of clothes...embarrassment most of us feel in that condition (1956:3). Furthermore,

Observations on Egypt. Alvar Nunez Cabeza De Vaca was one of the first Europeans to explore the
American Southwest. He wrote La Relacion that talks mostly of the few months that he spent with

De Vaca prayed a lot and that helped with a lot of what they were doing in the tribe. He managed

Relacion, I removed a mat with which he was covered, and as best I could prayed to Our Lord to

The Radical Enlightenment Hated Everything That Was Religion
REL 2011 Midterm Essay
QUESTION 2 The radical Enlightenment hated everything that was religion. This was a time where
scientific naturalism was being applied to every field of inquiry and everything, including religion,
was under scrutiny. The philosophers during the Enlightenment each had their reasons for their
hostile view of religion. The distaste for religion began when Reimarus wrote , which was
published for the first time in 1972 and had 1400 pages of content. His book labeled the second
coming of Christ a farce, he believed that the disciples stole the body of Christ and fabricated the
resurrection. Reimarus accused the disciples of using the idea of Christ coming back as a way to
maintain a sense of power. He went as far as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Kant s stance leaned more towards understanding morality. He stated that you cannot go to religion
for morality, due to it being the death of morality itself. Moreover, Kant sheds light on the
imperfections of the Bible. He viewed the God of the Bible in a different perspective, calling him an
arbitrary tyrant. A god that commands his followers to kill, to sacrifice, and one that damns people
to hellfire. These statements by Kant led people to think that religion altogether must be eliminated
and people should focus more on reason rather than revelation. Schleiermacher and Hagel had a
different view of the radical Enlightenment and points made during it. Schleiermacher believed that
Kant is undermining reason. He believes Kant is wrong because in his view religion is ethics and
the enlightenment has the wrong idea by trying to throw our religion. He understands the concept
of god has to be interpreted if we want to keep it. Schleiermacher wants to keep religion, not let it
go the way the Enlightenment wants to, he wants to keep Christianity and wants us to rethink
Christianity. Hagel as well wants to be the savior of Christianity, he wants to rescue to the content.
He sees the Enlightenment as a necessary step in the development of god. Because we are a
manifestation of the absolute, that s what the kingdom of god means, this world and this process, it
is the unfolding of the will of god and we are the agents of that process.

drugs via buccal mucosa for local and systemic applications. Compared to other transmucosal
routes, buccal mucosa is approximately an immobile, highly accessible mucosa that characterized
by wide area of smooth muscles1. Moreover, buccal drug delivery systems offer various advantages
including the direct entry to the systemic circulation through the internal jugular vein avoiding first

In the recent years, TRI is extensively studied as a potential anticancer candidate which
demonstrated activity against different cancer cell lines including, non small cell lung cancer
A549cells6 human prostate cancer7, melanoma 8 breast cancer MCF 7cell 9 and pancreatic
cancer cells 10. However, the clinical use of TRI is hampered by its low aqueous solubility
(13.25В±0.83 Вµg/mL at 37В°C) and poor intestinal absorption which lead to its low oral
bioavailability. All these obstacles make the oral route not the best one for TRI administration;
therefore switch to another route of administration seems to be a promising approach.
Among different novel drug delivery systems, phytosomes are well known as biocompatible
nanocarriers that have been used to improve solubility and permeability of different
phytopharmaceuticals. They are considered as self assembled nanocarriers that based on
phospholipid complexation approach. This type of complexation involved formation of hydrogen
bonding between the polar head of phospholipid and the drug polar moieties. Such bonding imparts
phytosomes superior stability profile than other vesicular phospholipid based systems like
liposomes. Additionally, phospholipids can promote drug permeation through buccal mucosa by
virtue of their solubilizing action as well as their essential role in maintaining cell membrane
fluidity. However, up to our knowledge, no study has

Equality In The Time Machine
The Journey for EqualityThe sole equality on earth is death. Although true equality may not be
attainable in this world, Wells explores what life would be like if peace and equality was normal.
The Eloi and Morlocks are used to represent his ideas, and although they have differences, they are
both given the chance to become better. H.G. Wells manages to incorporate a sense of equality
throughout his novel The Time Machine.
H.G. Wells leaves the characters nameless in order to create a sense of equality among them. The
very first thing Wells does is introduce the characters, because without them, there would be no
audience to tell the story to. The characters are important to the novel, yet most of them remain

Wells portrays a manipulative relationship between the Eloi and the Morlocks. The Eloi abused
their power and in return, the Morlocks took it over. Starting in chapter five and throughout the
rest of the novel, we see the hostility of the two groups. The Eloi hate the dark because of the
Morlocks. The Morlocks terrorize and eat the Eloi as portrayed by the Time Traveller. Upon
finding this out, the Time Traveller jumps to the conclusion that the Morlocks are bad. In fact,
the Eloi had it coming to them, they dealt a dirty blow and they received a bigger one. Wells
used his knowledge to interpret what would happen if one group was given the upper hand for too
long. It s only natural for the Morlocks to retaliate, and this nature is why equality is never
attainable. Although the two groups are depicted as enemies, they are equal in certain ways. Both
groups were given a chance to excel and it happened at different times. The Morlocks were able to
assess the situation, and given there opportunistic origins, were able to make the best of it. Neither
group is better than each other, but neither group is worse either. This equality between them,
although fleeting, depicts a surreal, almost utopian,

Living Under Totalitarianism Research Paper
Living Under Totalitarianism
A totalitarianism is a dictatorship that exercises unprecedented control over the masses and seeks to
mobilize them for action. Living under totalitarian means that the government controls people while
they are stripped of their freedom. Life in a society without freedom is painful and unbearable. To
top it off, a government controlled society without freedom is even worse. With the government
controlling all of the systems in a society basically means that the citizens are constantly being
watched 24/7 and needs permission for every actions they take. Otherwise, they would be arrested,
exiled or even put to death. Life in a society with no freedom controls the citizens life. Giving them

In a society without freedom they are not allowed to do what most people can do in a free

document 6 32 Things Cubans Can t Do by Carlos Eire, Cuban citizens needed permission from the
government just to do the simplest thing from accessing the internet to selling products. In
document 5 Hitler and Nazi Germany by Hannah Vogt, people in the Third Reich were being
tortured and executed because of impurity of race. This illustrates how the Nazis are using their
power to annihilate people from the Third Reich while they have no power of right or freedom
whatsoever. They also established concentration camp originally as a way to convince people
that they were a necessary part of restoring public order and security and when they are voted
into power, they used it as a way to keep people in fear of opposing them. Basically the original
purpose of the concentration camp was false and the main goal was to control people and abolish
them while taking away their freedom without them even knowing

Comparison Between The Bacchae and The Medea
In Euripides The Bacchae and in the Medea, there are significant binary oppositions in both
plays. Binary opposition is the two opposite terms, such as good versus bad. Binary opposition is
used to present both sides of a contrast (Marvin, 1). In The Bacchae and the Medea, Euripides used
binary opposition to highlight the central themes. The significant binary oppositions that are used
are men versus women, foreigner versus citizen, and god versus man. The contrast between men
versus women is an important opposition in both plays. The women in the Greek society have no
control of their life; the men are in control (Barlow 159). In The BacchaeDionysusunderminded the
Greek society point view on women and empowers... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The binary opposition of man versus woman starts off strong, but Euripides switches the roles in
both plays. In The Bacchae the woman worship Dionysus. Pentheus disguises himself as a
woman, and goes off to view the women in the mountains, which is Dionysus plan the whole
time. Pentheus dresses up as a woman and admits to wanting to see the women up at the
mountains, and this goes against Pentheus anger at the beginning of the play (Bacchae 813 814).
In the end of the play the women overpower Pentheus and destroy him to pieces (Bacchae 1125
1140). This is an example of the women being controlling of their own actions and being
stronger than the men. In Medea the stereotype of the man and the woman switch. Medea is no
longer going to sit around and let every man walk all over her; she states in her speech that she
will take revenge on everybody that caused her misery (Medea 364 409). Barlow emphasizes on
the reversal of the stereotype, stating that Medea, is a woman, moreover, who simply refuses to
any longer to accept at any rate Greek female stereotypes unless to use them with calculation to
gain her own immediate ends (158). Medea reversing the stereotype is the reversal of man
controlling the woman, and this shows that woman as well have the power to control their own life.
Euripides also highlights how

Napoleon And Illya s Fighting Analysis
For this media fight analysis, I will be studying Napoleon Solo and Illya Kuryakin from the 1960
s television series, The Man from U.N.C.L.E. In addition to fighting with guns and a myriad of
other weapons, Napoleon and Illya primarily use hand to hand combat against their opponents
stemming from traditional boxing and Judo. The primary goal for their methods of fighting is to
subdue their opponents instead of causing great injury or death. When death does occur, it is
usually in the form of self defense, necessity, or the opponent is killed by an error in their own
weapons, like poison or killer bees.
Napoleon s and Illya s fighting style is a blend between traditional boxing and Judo. Known for
mostly using punches and evasive footwork instead of an emphasis on kicking, boxing has
evolved dramatically over history. Historians have found evidence that the earliest form of boxing
was created in 4000 BCE in North Africa, spreading to Greece and Rome as a spectator sport. In
1681, boxing was first documented in Britain, and it was in 1743 when there were actual rules to
prevent deaths in the sport. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Napoleon and Illya are clearly trained to fight, disarm, and possibly kill their opponents if
necessary. They do not go for the kill right away because it is their goal to apprehend the enemy
and bring them to justice. Their fighting style shows that they are able to defend and attack, but it
also shows that they are not perfect in their execution. In some cases, Napoleon and Illya make
mistakes in their fighting which end with them being captured or having an opponent escape to
make an appearance later in the series. Sometimes the two spies are paired up with bigger and
stronger opponents, forcing them to adjust their moves to achieve their goals and evoke sympathy
from the audience, who root for the charming, underdog

The time horizon also affects an investor s ability to accept risk. If an investor has a long time
horizon, the investor may have a greater ability to accept risk because he would have a longer
time period to recoup any losses. This is unlike an investor with a shorter time horizon whose
ability to accept risk may be lower because he would not have the ability to recoup any losses. 3.
Tax Concerns After tax returns are the returns investors are focused on when creating an
investment portfolio. If an investor is currently in a high tax bracket as a result of his income, it
may be important to focus on investments that would not make the investor s situation worse, like
investing more heavily in tax deferred investments. 4. Legal and Regulatory Legal and regulatory
factors can act as an investment constraint and must be considered. An example of this would occur
in a trust. A trust could require that no more than 10% of the trust be distributed each year. Legal
and regulatory constraints such as this one often can t be changed and must not be overlooked. 5.
Unique Circumstances Any special needs or constraints not recognized in any of the constraints
listed above would fall in this category. An example of a unique circumstance would be the
constraint an investor might place on investing in any company that is not socially responsible,
such as a tobacco company. Expressing Investment Objectives in Terms of Risk and Return Return

Stripping the ability to have children is strong example of dehumanizing people with
deformities, for giving them unfair rights. Furthermore, along with many, people who are
deviations are jealous of the lives of those who normal since they can marry and have children.
Spider man is jealous that norms can have children and not the Fringe people, when he was
young, David prayed that he becomes a norm and lose his special abilities. As well as Anne, she
is jealous that norms have the opportunity to lead normal lives by marrying and having children.
Spider man gets vengeful and kills his own brother out of jealousy. This manifests that fringes
people are not satisfied with their lives and the rules for deviations are not fair since they want
to have a family, although rules are rules. The fringes should not be living a life of jealousy, they
should have the freedom to do what they want. Moreover, people in the fringes really want to
have children, but they can not so they try to get with norms in order to produce, evidently
deviations are stripped the ability to have children. On the other hand, when Sophie talks to
David in the Fringes she says that she loves Gordon and would have children with him if she
could. Gordon is in a relationship with Sophie but wants children with Rosalind since she is able
to reproduce. This proves that people have little respect for deviations, and Sophie is heartbroken
by the fact Gordon wants Rosalind and resents Sophie for what she has been doomed to

Using Quality Function Deployment in Software Requirements...
USING QUALITY FUNCTION DEPLOYMENT IN SOFTWARE REQUIREMENTS
SPECIFICATION Abstract. We present in this paper an approach to requirements specification
based on quality function deployment (QFD). We discuss how techniques like QFD with
accompanying tool support can contribute to the development of high quality requirements models
that are the basis for information systems that are perceived as valuable by the stakeholders of the
systems. Based on the practical application of this technique on a number of information systems
projects, including both traditional development projects and the implementation of packaged
solutions, it is our experience that the quality of requirements specifications can be improved by
using this technique,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Different toolВ–support is available, going from simple spreadsheets to more advanced
groupware tools which enable a larger proportion of the stakeholders to participate actively in the
process. In the next section, we give an overview of the SQFD technique. Then we evaluated the
technique based on experiences using it in different kinds of projects. We have evaluated the
approach on to what extent it can help in the process of creating requirements models of high
quality. We conclude the paper pointing to future work as we get further practical experience with
the use of the technique and tools. 2 Overview of SQFD QFD was first introduced in Japan by
Akao in 1966. Since 1984 a number of companies have used QFD with cross functional teams and
concurrent engineering to improve their products, and product or service development process [24],
including the development of software [8]. Yearly, several major international conferences are held
on the subject, see e.g. [4] for a current overview of the breath of problem areas attacked with QFD.
SQFD [19] focuses on improving the software development process by implementing quality
improvement techniques during requirements specification. In order to satisfy the stakeholders
under the constraints faced by a project, it is necessary to concentrate the best efforts on those
things of greatest importance. To do this requires that the project team during requirements
specification obtains the

Perceval Alternate Ending
Lying in bed, Perceval blinked his eyes open. The bright morning sunlight filtering into the
bedchamber had woken him. He gazed out the window at the azure blue sky, then turned to face
his sleeping wife and smiled. She snored lightly and Perceval found that adorable. However, at
the sound of Perceval s stomach rumbling, Joan woke with a start, her expression groggy and
confused. Oh, I d forgotten where I was for a moment, she said, stretching out her arms above her
head, yawning. But what was that sound? My stomach calling for food, Perceval told her with a

transaction with the merchant then tied the new gift around his wife s neck. How does it look?
she asked. Not bad, but you re far more beautiful than any necklace, Perceval teased, then bent
down to kiss Joan right in the middle of the marketplace. His kiss was punctuated by a few
whistles and shouts of approval from passers by. Perceval stepped back and glanced at Joan
again. Forget the silly necklace; he wanted to press his lips to the creamy white skin of her
throat and keep kissing, lower and lower. He pictured himself pleasing her orally again, being
pleased orally, and yes, having her right up against a wall. Gods, she was the most alluring creature

Essay on Class Conflict in the Great Gatsby
The main, reoccurring theme in F. Scott Fitzgerald s novel, The Great Gatsby, is the theme of
society and class. Three separate social classes are portrayed in the novel: old money, new money,
and the lowest class known as no money. The old money class refers to those who come from
families that have fortunes. New money families are those who made their money in the Roaring
Twentiesand often lavishly display their wealth. In the novel, the growing tension between the old
and the new money classes are shown through Gatsby and Tom s struggle over Daisy. The novel s
narrator, Nick Carraway, begins the novel by sharing advice his father gave him when he was
younger: do not criticize others because all the people in this world... Show more content on

Gatsby, I said shortly.

He was silent for a moment. The pebbles of the drive crunched

A breeze stirred the gray haze of Daisy s fur collar.

 At least they re more
interesting than the people we know, she said with an effort. (6.98 105)
By juxtaposing Gatsby and Daisy, Fitzgerald distinctly reveals the idiocy of the new money
class. Daisy comes from an environment with true values and stiff behavior, and when placed in
West Egg she finds herself unable to live with such negligence. The theme of this novel, the
hollowness of the upper class, is similarly portrayed at the very end of the novel after the death
of Gatsby. The day before Gatsby s funeral, Nick goes around in an effort to assemble more
people to attend the services. He goes to New York to try to get Meyer Wolfsheim, a friend of
Gatsby, to attend the ceremony. Wolfsheim reflects on his friendship

The Islamic Revolution and its Impac on Marji’s Family Essay
The Pahlavi dynasty caused Marji s family and other Iranian citizens to become dysphonic. The
dynasty mismanaged Iranian money and was manipulated by Western nations. Enmity grew
towards the monarchy and ultimately the Iranian people wanted a revolution. Marji s family had
strong animosity toward the Shah. Many of Marji s family members as well as others fought
against the Shah. But the Islamic Revolution took a turn that many were not prepared for.
Mohammad Reza Pahlavi(The Shah), the son of Reza Shah took the throne after his father on

Dr. Mohammed Mossadeq was deemed by Iranian people as a hero. In addition to the

a puppet of the Western nations, particularly the United States. Citizens of Iran began to have
aversion towards the actions of the monarchy. The Shah altered the Iranian solar calendar inducing
outrage amongst many Iranian Muslims. Another issue was the Shah s distribution of money. The
Shah spent over 300 million dollars in extravagant luxuries during a three day celebration; rather
than using the money for the needs of Iran. Citizens of Iran suffered greatly from The Shah s
regime. He was considered a dictator and used harsh punishments for rebellions. The Shah was a

city for a COLA increase. However, we are asking for a MOU which contains a small stipend.
Currently, the city continues to reject our request by stating that they cannot afford it. We simply
cannot agree with their findings. Currently the city has approximately 3.7 million in general fund
reserves. We acknowledge that the cities general funds reserves have decreased in recent years

Essay on Gran Torino and The Right Stuff
Getting old and aging are things that have become difficult points for many and despite the
negative representation of the elderly in film, they do serve a purpose. On the big screen we
continue to see many underpinnings of ageist assumptions when in fact many of the characters are
strong figures that Still have the Right Stuff . Clint Eastwood dispels that myth and several
significant scenes epitomize this concept in the movie hit Gran Torino (2008). Gran Torino (2008)
exposes and defends against ageist assumptions although many believe the underlying theme is that
of racism and bigotry. We see an older man, Walt Kowalski (Eastwood) who has lost his wife and

The physical signs of aging include a decline in flexibility and endurance in the first incident
described below. In the second meeting with Sue, his heroism and powerful strength and
persona is appreciated. He is no longer seen as a feeble old man. As an initiation, Thao is asked
to steal Walt s prized 1972 Ford Gran Torino. He botches the attempt, as Walt, rather stumblingly,
chases his out of his garage with his M1 rifle. Later, Thao s sister, Sue (Ahney Her) is set upon
by some stereotypically predatory young black man and Walt, brandishing a pistol, rescues her.
Another scene in which the character of Walt deals with the prejudices of ageist yet remains in
control is when his son and daughter in law gift him a telephone for old people with giant
buttons and numbers on it for his birthday. They also present him with a gopher to help him pick
up things on the ground more easily and retirement brochures. These gifts would make things
easier because he worked hard his whole life. This was the last straw and he throws them out.
This reaction shows Walt had the right stuff. He was not feeble or afraid to talk back to his
children. As people age, they often accept the emotional abuse but Walt would not. Another
concept where we see Walt fighting the concept of ageist is his role to man Thao up a bit. The
elderly are often seen as no longer being valuable members of society yet they

Wildland Fire Essay
Virtually everywhere in the United States is affected to one degree of another by wildland fires.
Even if a community is not directly involved with the fire itself, chances are that some of its
members have gone to help fight wildland fires in other areas of the country by providing
manpower, financial support, or other humanitarian aid.
Policies regarding the handling of wildland fires continue to change and evolve as new information
is learned each fire season. Attitudes have changed between complete wildland fire suppression to
no suppression at all. We now seem to have reached a balance between the two schools of thought

. These sources are chemical, mechanical, electrical, and nuclear.
Chemical The most common source of heat for the purpose of firefighting comes from chemical
reactions. When something burns, it is the result of a chemical reaction where heat is being
released. Pyrolysis is the decomposition or transformation of a compound caused by heat.
(Coleman, et al. 81)
Mechanical The mechanical source of heat deals the heat that is created from friction. Friction is a
resistive force that occurs from the rubbing or compression of materials. For firefighters, this
source of fire is seen mostly in industrial machinery (Coleman, et al. 81).
Electrical An electric current exists when there is a net flow of charge through a given area.
Electrons flow from the negatively charged region to the positively charged region. This is usually
accomplished by using an electrical conductor which allows the electrons to pass freely through the
material (Serway, et al. 709). This flow of electrons can generate heat when collisions between the
molecules and electrons occur. These collisions then cause the molecules to break apart thus
releasing heat. Some common examples of electrical energy are lightning, static electricity, and
wiring outlets (Coleman, et al. 82). For the wildland firefighter, lightning is probably the

Presenters who don t know their content avoid eye contact because they lack confidence that they

How Did Constantine Make A Collage About Christianity
Constantine, the son of Constantius I Chlorus, junior emperor and St. Helena, was raised on the

was left with Galerius in the court of the emperor Diocletian. When Diocletian and Maximian had

one has to stay and govern the land and the other has to go out and win wars and earn land. Most
of the time, you get to be emperor when your father resigns, but you could also be emperor if the
people want you to lead them. On one of my slides, I made a collage about christianity, because

Since its inception more than 20 years ago, IBM has been a leader in its field. Despite this
success, over the course of the last several years, IBM has found that in order to keep itself
competitive, corporate restructuring has been necessary. As such, practices such as downsizing and
outsourcing have become quite popular for the company. In 2002 IBM signed a deal with Fidelity
s Employer Services Company to outsource its HRM department. Of the IBM s 1,200 human
resource employees, Fidelity retained 450.
The growth of HR outsourcing will continue to gain momentum as organizations reap the
benefits, including significant cost savings, new capabilities and services for employees, and
enabling HR to focus on more strategic work that is integral to the business, Bryan Doyle,
president of Hewitt s HR outsourcing group, said in a press release (Gurchiek). Why are
companies looking to outsourcing more of their jobs? One of the most appealing aspects is the
reduction in labor. This reduction fits in with the new idea of streamlining. More can be done
with less therefore more can be earned. The market place today is extremely competitive, and
every advantage counts. Millions of dollars are saved by turning to outside contractors. Not only
do companies save on wages, they save from not having to provide benefit packages. Revenue
saved can be put to better product development, and new research. A major reason

Later on in the excerpt, he goes on about a certain type of animal with human characteristics. He
explains with a Vivisection is experimental surgery to animals by changing the way they look.
Moving body parts around making animals look into monsters. He tries to portray it as a good
science but Prendick impacts my thoughts on this with terms such as monster and things making it
not a normal creature anymore seen on pages 230. It tells me that these animals do not look the
same anymore. So this surgery they are doing is not saving the animal it is harming the animal.
This type of work is inhuman to the fact that they are testing something that isn t beneficial for the

has this idea of how morals are not real in a sense since something like mindlessly harming
innocent animals to makes them look different is inhuman but he doesn t think that since he has no

Immanuel Kant And The Kant Essay
Immanuel Kant Lying Chiyane Peterson MCCC Ethics MW 1:30pm Parviz Dehghani Lying the
one form of communication that is the untruth expressed to be the truth. Immanuel Kant states
that lying is morally wrong in all possible ways. His hatred for lying has made him just assumed
that anyone who lied would be operating with a maxim like this: tell a lie so as to gain some
benefit. (Landau,pp.171) This is true for a vast number of people, they will lie in order to gain a
certain benefit from the lie rather than the truth. It is similar to if you play a game of truth or
dare, some rather pick a dare because it would release them from having to tell the truth.
However, those who do pick truth still have a chance to lie to cover up the absolute truth.People
lie in order to cover who they truly are. Even if you lie to benefit someone or something else, it
would not matter to Kant because he does not care for the consequences. If you lie but have a
good intention it is not the same for Kant, he would argue that you still lied no matter the
consequence that a lie is a lie. While lying, we accuse others for not being transparent. While
being hypocrites ourselves, we expect others to be sincere. (Dehghani,Ethics) We know how it
feels to be lied to by a person, so in order to not have the feeling returned, we hope the person will
be truthful. We rather be surrounded by truthful people constantly despite all the lies that some

enjoys the sensations that accompany the sound draws attention to his perspective towards his crime
. His trauma does not stem from the guilt attributed to a violation of civil or moral laws. Instead,
he views the murders as acts of justice and, therefore, considers the crime scene to be admirable
work. As the perpetrator, Raskolnikov sees the crime in its righteous beauty as well as its callous,
cruel nature. He considers himself to be above others and, for this reason, he pushes the boundaries
of his own security. Similar to the repeating bell noises, intrusive thoughts continue to plague
Raskolnikov and he cannot resist the impulse to invest in such ideas. While he is aware of his
circular reasoning, he does not take action to end them similar to how he cannot stop himself from
ringing the doorbell.
Yes, I am...I am all over blood stains! said Raskolnikov, with a peculiar look; then he smiled,
nodded his head, and turned down the stairs. He went down quietly, without hurry; he was in a
fever again, but unconscious of the fact, and full of a strange new feeling of boundlessly full and
powerful life welling in him (Dostoevsky 159).
Following Marmeladov s death, Raskolnikov experiences a rejuvenation that deeply contrasts with
the emotions following the

This meeting started late due to a lack of council members and also audience. After, ten minutes a
third member arrived and the meeting began, however the council skipped the first half of the
agenda and jumped to Communications. Ten minutes after starting Communications, a fourth
council member appeared and the meeting started all over to the beginning of the agenda. The
meeting started over because the council could not approve the minutes and agenda without

Comparing Harry Potter And The Sorcerer s Stone
Harry Potter and the Sorcerer s Stone is both an amazing book, released in 1997, and movie,
released in 2001. The film attempts to incorporate the book as best as possible. However, there is
almost no way for every single detail to be apart of the movie as well as the book. Although all of
the die hard Harry Potterfans would love an exact comparison of the book to the movie, it would be
way too long. Nonetheless, the film and the novel do have many similarities but not too many
major differences.
The movie and book start out with Professor Dumbledore and McGonagall just outside of Number
4 Privet Drive when they give the newly orphaned Harry Potter to his Aunt and Uncle Dursley. The
entire exposition of the film is almost exact to the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the Hogwarts infirmary, Professor Dumbledore explains that when Harry s mother died to save
his life, this act left him with a magical protection which saved him from Quirrell and Voldemort.
The Philosopher s/Sorcerer s Stone is destroyed, meaning Nicholas Flamel will die. This happened
in both the film and novel. Although there are several minor differences, they don t affect the plot.
All in all, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer s Stone Book and Film are extremely similar. This is
probably so because people fell in love with the book and the directors wanted the same feeling in
the movie as well. Although there may be some differences, none of them changed the plot

Overpopulation In The United States
The United States population is growing at an alarming rate. Overpopulation is the condition
where the population is rising rapidly and the resources cannot support it. The growth rate in the
United States is approximately 2.2%. This means by 2050 the population could reach 438 million
people ( World Bank Group ) Many citizens do not see any danger of the population rise in the
United States. Unawareness might be the biggest factor in why they believe this; however,
overpopulationcan destroy the environment, including food and water sources, while also raising
unemployment rates and the risk of disease.
Overpopulation can damage or even destroy the environment. The need for resources will grow
with the population, but natural resources will not be produced at a fast enough pace. Man may
try to produce the resources they need themselves but will there be enough space? According to
Young the average person needs a minimum of 100 square feet to feel comfortable in a living
space ( How Much Space Do You Really Need? ). Using the estimated population size of 2050,
human living space will take up 43.8 billion square feet. Assuming most of these people live in
apartment buildings so there is room for farming. Farms will need to switch out crops every year
to slow down the process of soil degradation. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

the Lesson by Toni Cade Bambara
The Lesson From The Mentor
Whenever there is a civil rights movement going on, there are always 3 parties involved. One the
Oppressor, second the Oppressed and lastly the Activist or the Mentor. The Activists usually always
emerges from the Oppressed. That is when the Oppressed intellectuals feel that it s time to standup
to defend the identity of their people and make them strong enough to make a name of their own.
This is what happened during the early 20th century within the African American community. They
were racially termed as Negros meaning blacks. And were separated from the mainstream white
American society with the Powerful class denying their rights for equal opportunities in basically
every field of life. This paved way ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
And give them an understanding of how the world sees them and how they should create a good
life on their own. For instance when she asked them to pay to the taxi cab driver along with a
10% tip, this shows that she wanted them to learn to calculate. And by firing away questions
and trying to make them share their views about the happenings in the toy store on the high
profile FIFTH AVE. which was for the upper white class (where she took them to show the
disparity and learn), she wanted them to realize that injustice is done towards them and they
should learn to live to live on their own and earn respect. Not all is gone in vain (referring to Sylvia
s and other kids cold responses) and Ms Moore is delighted by Sugar s response.
You know, Miss Moore, I don t think all of us here put together eat in a year what that sailboat
costs. And Miss Moore lights up like somebody goosed her. And? she say, urging Sugar on.
Imagine for a minute what kind of society it is in which some people can spend on a toy what it
would cost to feed a family of six or seven. What do you think? (Bambara 99).
Giving us the idea that intelligence and awareness exists everywhere, it just needs to be awakened
just like Ms. Moore did. Introduction of the side characters shows us that Bambara tries her best to
tell the readers that the children of the African American community are as normal as they are.

A Machiavellian Ruler Of Shakespeare s Hamlet
A Machiavellian ruler is a cunning ruler. This is a ruler who uses anything and anyone that is
within his power to get into power and to keep the power. This is not all that entails a
Machiavellian ruler. Other characteristics such as good fortunes, wisdom and bravery all come
into play. Nonetheless, it is the wickedness in a Machiavellian ruler that is reflected in
Shakespeare s play, Hamlet through King Claudius. King Claudius, is a classic example of the
type of ruler Machiavelli discusses in his book The Prince. According to Machiavelli, love is better
than fear for a leader. However, the real question is how you instill this fear into the people. Is it
through murder or treachery or war? Either one can work well depending on the circumstances.
Such as, too much fear which may come back to haunt one. For King Claudius, he is lucky that he
is not hated or feared by the people but by Hamlet. King Claudius ascended into power through
treachery and murder. Through this process, he left many people in pain and caused himself to feel
guilty about his acts at certain point in time.
That cannot be, since I am still possessed Of those effects for which I did the murder:
My crown, mine own ambition, and my queen. May one be pardoned and retain th offense? In the
corrupted currents of this world Offense s gilded hand may shove by justice (Hamlet, 3.3.54).
This quote describes the story of a man who knows he is guilty of the sin of murder, yet still feels
he can benefit from

even as he reached for Mrs. Shin, my darling, my love, her wounded body continued its ancient

I cried many times, hearing and reading stories about people I knew, before this sadness changed
into anger at a regime that destroys its own people. These could be a clear evidence of Kyres Lee s
trigger of writing this book is related to North Korea and the story Drifting House is the root story
of this book. As I mentioned previously, one of the themes, the memory of the past is haunting
the present, and 2 or more stories are influencing each other. Author deliberately put these stories
apart, put them not a numerical order. And when readers read this book, we could found the
truth or facts about character s past when these short stories are progressing and it affects
readers. There is the another example of this theme is the interrelationship between The Goose
Father and A Temporary Marriage . The Goose Father s main character is Gilho Pak, who is
Detector Pak in A Temporary Marriage , is a goose father separated from his family. He attempts
to secure a stable social position and he is ambivalent about his sexual orientation. He met Woo
Seong and it seemed he did coming out, which is scandal to his family. In A Temporary Marriage

despondent eyes. Dr. Pak

Cummings was born on October 14th, 1894 in Cambridge, Massachusetts. In 1916, Cummings graduated with a master s degree from Harvard University. During his studies, he was subject to many great writers such as Gertrude Stein and Ezra Pound. After working for five months as a volunteer ambulance driver in World War I, he was captured by French authorities. He was accused on accounts of espionage. After the war, he settled into a life in which he bounced around from houses in rural Connecticut and Greenwich Village. He also traveled through Europe meeting various poets and artists, including Pablo Picasso. During his life, Cummings won a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the way he conveys this, it s clear that he feels time is moving very slowly. In the third stanza, We do not wind it up, it has no weights, spring wheels inside of its slender self, no indeed dear nothing of the kind (Cummings Web), Cummings creates vivid imagery. This shows that Cummings is relating how he has no use for a clock and doesn t care for the principle of keeping time. He would rather live life time free, without having to worry about being on time or being late. The third and final poetic device that shows up in the poem, 9 , is symbolism. To begin the poem Cummings uses symbolism. The number 9 refers to the number of times he uses the words, tic toc , toc tic , tic tic , toc , and tic . Also, as seen in the fourth stanza, So when kiss spring comes, we ll kiss each kiss other on kiss the kiss lips because the tic clocks toc don t make a toc tic difference to kiss kiss you and to kiss me (Cummings Web). Cummings uses the word kiss to complicate and clutter the verse. If you remove those words, he simply summarizes all of his thoughts in the last stanza. He says when spring comes; we can kiss because the clocks don t make a difference to you and me. This symbolizes that Cummings can t wait for the spring and summer months when the clocks don t play a role in his life. In conclusion, Cummings uses his poem 9 to relay his feeling to time. Thesis: Although there are some reports of such games terribly impacting children, most research says that the violence in them is understood to be unrealistic, and thus not internalized and regurgitated back through increased aggressiveness in behavior. Reports Showing Violent Video Games Increase Aggression Exposure to violent video games has been lined to increases in aggression. Such reports have linked violent video games to both short and long term impacts Reports Showing Little Impact on Children and Teens However, more convincing evidence shows that it is only very young children who are affected, and that older children and teens are relatively unaffected by the violence in their video games. The reports which show stronger correlations are often flawed. Even federal government research has failed to find a statistically significant correlation between increased aggression and violence in video games. Conclusion Overall, violence in video games does not seem to impact children as negatively as many had previously assumed. Violent Video Games and Their Impact on Children How much is too much? When children are exposed to bloodshed and carnage in their favorite video games is that too much for them to handle? There are definitely conflicting viewpoints on just how much violence in video games impact children. Some believe that violence in video games increases aggression and ... • 4. The Prospect Of A Two State Nation Solution For Israel... The Israel Palestine conflict is one of the most long term, pressing, and largely confounding social, political, and national quandaries of our age. Since we have been moving with surprising velocity into the vast horizons of globalization, the conflict has built up tremendous momentum and has called into question the adequacy of our current attempts at coming to a peaceful resolution that can simultaneously and successfully address both sides of the struggle. The purpose of this paper has been to understand the prospect of a two state nation solution for Israeland Palestine. The discussion arises a retrospective view of the context behind the present analysis. We begin with a discourse that informs the reader of the historical narrative between the Jewish inhabitants of Israel and the Palestinians who also seek to live in the lands which comprise Israel. At the forefront of the discussion are some key issues such as trends in Israeli settlementexpansion over time, the manner in which these settlements create political challenges towards the prospect of a two state solution, and the fragmentation of power within Palestinian political parties which inhibit the opportunity for proper negotiations amongst the two parties. Finally, we delve into a discussion on nationalism, it s importance in the discussion of a two state solution, and the challenges posed when trying to formulate US Foreign Policy towards the matter. The Objectification Of Women By Kenneth Clark For centuries, the objectification of women has become the norm, forever portraying them as submissive and passive for the benefit of the male gaze. Eternally capsulated in a world, perfected, unanimously the viewer and viewed alike. Jenny Saville defies expectations in creating the female nude with herself as both subject and painter. Taking on the roles given to women by men and making them her own, Saville elevates the status of women by making them their own judge of beauty. To achieve this, the body must be abstracted, becoming a process of designing the ideal figure through mutating and etching away any flaws of the sitter. [The nude is] a balance, prosperous, and confident body: the body reformed (1956:3) conveying that a woman must be scoured of all imperfections to be confident in her own right. However, Saville contradicts this by almost aggressively painting her flaws, baring herself to all and reviling in her own nakedness. Proving further the empowerment, a woman can feel upon taking control of how others perceive her. Yet, Saville s pride in her state of nakedness is condemned to vanity, not allowing her to feel entitled to the entity of her body. Berger agrees, calling out men for their hypocrisy in moulding women to view themselves being viewed all to justify the creation of the female nude. Morally condemning the woman whose nakedness you have depicted for your own pleasure (1972:51), Berger calls into question the male gaze and the liberties men have taken in portraying women nude, only for them to be shamed in their nakedness. Setting into motion the trend that women are to be ashamed of their body without clothes. In The Bacchae and the Medea, Euripides used binary opposition to highlight the central themes. The significant binary oppositions that are used are men versus women, foreigner versus citizen, and god versus man. The contrast between men versus women is an important opposition in both plays. Pentheus dresses up as a woman and admits to wanting to see the women up at the mountains, and this goes against Pentheus anger at the beginning of the play (Bacchae 813 814). In the end of the play the women overpower Pentheus and destroy him to pieces (Bacchae 1125 1140). This is an example of the women being controlling of their own actions and being stronger than the men. In Medea the stereotype of the man and the woman switch. • 17. Napoleon And Illya s Fighting Analysis For this media fight analysis, I will be studying Napoleon Solo and Illya Kuryakin from the 1960 s television series, The Man from U.N.C.L.E. In addition to fighting with guns and a myriad of other weapons, Napoleon and Illya primarily use hand to hand combat against their opponents stemming from traditional boxing and Judo. The primary goal for their methods of fighting is to subdue their opponents instead of causing great injury or death. When death does occur, it is usually in the form of self defense, necessity, or the opponent is killed by an error in their own weapons, like poison or killer bees. Napoleon s and Illya s fighting style is a blend between traditional boxing and Judo. Known for mostly using punches and evasive footwork instead of an emphasis on kicking, boxing has evolved dramatically over history. Historians have found evidence that the earliest form of boxing was created in 4000 BCE in North Africa, spreading to Greece and Rome as a spectator sport. On the big screen we continue to see many underpinnings of ageist assumptions when in fact many of the characters are strong figures that Still have the Right Stuff . Clint Eastwood dispels that myth and several significant scenes epitomize this concept in the movie hit Gran Torino (2008). They also present him with a gopher to help him pick up things on the ground more easily and retirement brochures. These gifts would make things easier because he worked hard his whole life. This was the last straw and he throws them out. This reaction shows Walt had the right stuff. He was not feeble or afraid to talk back to his children. Chemical The most common source of heat for the purpose of firefighting comes from chemical reactions. When something burns, it is the result of a chemical reaction where heat is being released. Pyrolysis is the decomposition or transformation of a compound caused by heat. (Coleman, et al. 81) Mechanical The mechanical source of heat deals the heat that is created from friction. Friction is a resistive force that occurs from the rubbing or compression of materials. For firefighters, this source of fire is seen mostly in industrial machinery (Coleman, et al. 81). Electrical An electric current exists when there is a net flow of charge through a given area. Electrons flow from the negatively charged region to the positively charged region. This is usually accomplished by using an electrical conductor which allows the electrons to pass freely through the material (Serway, et al. 709). This flow of electrons can generate heat when collisions between the molecules and electrons occur. These collisions then cause the molecules to break apart thus releasing heat. Immanuel Kant states that lying is morally wrong in all possible ways. His hatred for lying has made him just assumed that anyone who lied would be operating with a maxim like this: tell a lie so as to gain some benefit. (Landau,pp.171) This is true for a vast number of people, they will lie in order to gain a certain benefit from the lie rather than the truth. It is similar to if you play a game of truth or dare, some rather pick a dare because it would release them from having to tell the truth. However, those who do pick truth still have a chance to lie to cover up the absolute truth.People lie in order to cover who they truly are. Even if you lie to benefit someone or something else, it would not matter to Kant because he does not care for the consequences. If you lie but have a good intention it is not the same for Kant, he would argue that you still lied no matter the consequence that a lie is a lie. While lying, we accuse others for not being transparent. While being hypocrites ourselves, we expect others to be sincere. This is a ruler who uses anything and anyone that is within his power to get into power and to keep the power. This is not all that entails a Machiavellian ruler. Other characteristics such as good fortunes, wisdom and bravery all come into play. Nonetheless, it is the wickedness in a Machiavellian ruler that is reflected in Shakespeare s play, Hamlet through King Claudius. King Claudius, is a classic example of the type of ruler Machiavelli discusses in his book The Prince. According to Machiavelli, love is better than fear for a leader.
