The car has been a mainstay of American culture for about...
The car has been a mainstay of American culture for about a century. The idea of a car in every garage
has been around for almost as long. Teenagers view getting their driver s license as a rite of passage
and our cross country highways support the notion of the Great American Road Trip. We drive our
cars everywhere. And after all these years, doing so has become a problem. [1] Over the last century,
the Earth s average temperature has risen by 1.4 °F. Over the next century, that average is expected to
rise an additional 2 11.5 °F. This change has shown a strong correlation with the increase of
greenhouse gases emitted by the burning of fossil fuels for energy and transportation. In fact, every
year, human activity releases over ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
[4] Ethanol is a renewable energy source that can be produced domestically. It is produced from
various plant materials such as corn, sugar cane and some types of grasses. Ethanol combustion will
produce less greenhouse gas production and there is little extra cost to make vehicles able to run on
high ethanol content fuel. While most of the gasoline used in the U.S. contains up to 15% ethanol, the
more environmentally friendly E85 (or flex fuel) contains up to 83% ethanol. Unfortunately, this type
of fuel can be problematic. Ethanol has a lower energy content than regular gasoline, which results in
cars getting anywhere between 15 25% less miles per gallon (MPG). Furthermore, although E85 is
generally cheaper per gallon, the lower energy content makes it slightly more expensive in terms of
cost per mile. Finally, the fueling stations for E85 are generally located in the Midwest, which limits
the widespread use of this type of energy alternative. [4] Biodiesel is another possible alternative. It
can be produced from vegetable oils, animal fats, and recycled restaurant grease. Some of its
advantages are that it is biodegradable, is generally safer to handle and it produces significantly less
carbon dioxide emissions (up to 15% less). However, it too has problems. Similar to ethanol fuels, it
has a lower energy content, which results in lesser MPG for cars. Fuels that contain a high percentage
of biodiesel are also not

Descriptive Essay On A Haunted House
When I walked into the haunted house to explore it. The old porch was creaking I was shaking. As I
walked it the door slammed behind me. I got scared tried to open the door there was no budge. I ran to
the back door of the house it was looked too there was no way I was getting out. I thought to myself
this house is haunted .
I decided to look around the house and see what it was like. There were four bedrooms, two
bathrooms, A kitchen, living room, and a den. I just figured out there was a up and a down stairs. I
decided to be brave and take a look up stairs. As I walked up the stairs the stairs creaked as i was
shaking scared that I would fall in. BOOM!!!!!!!, a loud noise I hear. The house was so scary I was
feeling very sick I just wanted to get out! There was no way for me to get out I was trapped. When I
went upstairs to look there was a game room and bathroom and a little lap sitting on a table. I went
more towards the lamp. Zoom!!! The lamp slides off the table and hits the wall and breaks. I run down
stairs shaking. I tripped over a loose board. I hit my head on the stairs I felt like it was the end. After a
few minutes I woke up in the basement I was thinking How did I get down here . Then I looked up
and I a little boy was looking at me. He says Are you ok ? I looked at him yes thanks for helping me.
You look scared. Yes I am I came here to explore it. I fell down the stairs and hit my head as the lamp
fell off the table. Sorry about that was my dad

Shared Graduate Dance Concert at the Clarice Smith...
At 3:00 PM on Sunday April 13th, 2014, I attended the performance Shared Graduate Dance Concert
at the Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center Dance Theatre. Walking into the theatre I had anticipated
experiencing an upright performance. This sensation came as I visited the website for the Shared
Graduate Concert and saw a breath taking photo that entailed a person behind a curtain holding their
hand up and a fuzzy person in front of a curtain. Also, I knew I was in for a good ride after I saw
Meghan Bowden in the pamphlet.
The temperament of the performance Canned Soup shook the audience out of their chairs. This scene
in particular stood out to me the most. The woman dressed in a just a bathing suit, a pretty dark scene
with only a beaming red light, and absolutely no music, obscured a unique type of humor during her
performance. The scene was comprised of a small swimming pool, canned soup, and side performers
dressed in black clothing with ties. In place of music Lynne Price was able to interact with her breath
as a way to create a rhythm that she could move her body too.
Movement quality is a very important aspect of any performance. Although, I thought all the pieces
were astonishing, I felt the movement quality for each performance was slightly different. In Let me
in. Let me out , many of the movements performed in were done in a ripple effect to peaceful music.
Also, the performers incorporated their breath into their movement as the lights changed from light to

Tension In Shirley Jackson s The Lottery
The Lottery by Shirley Jackson begins on a late summer morning, the villagers of a small New
England town gather to conduct their annual lottery. There is an air of festivity among them, especially
the children. Only a few in the crowd reveal slight hints of tension or unease. The lottery is a tradition
within the community and the leader of the lottery, Mr. Summers, works hard to preserve it. Despite
this, changes have crept in, and some old timers such as Old Man Warner regret what they perceive as
a loss of a heritage that has preserved the happiness and prosperity of the town over time. All of the
villagers congregate in town square, attendance is called, and the head of each family steps forward to
take a slip of paper from the black box. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is evident through the lack of change in the tone as the events Jackson describes shift
dramatically. In the beginning of the story, Jackson describes an idyllic clear and sunny day with the
fresh warmth of a full summer day (Jackson 638). However, the events that follow strikingly contrast
this description. The villagers armed with stones moved in on her and were upon her , even her own
family participates in the stoning. Jackson maintains a constant calm tone even as the events she
describes become increasingly dark. By doing this, Jackson emphasizes that this immense amount of
human aggression is commonplace. This opinion of Jackson s intentions is supported by Coulthard. In
his analysis of The Lottery , Coulthard states that It is not the ancient custom of human sacrifice that
makes the villagers behave cruelly, but that their thinly veiled cruelty keeps the custom alive
(Coulthard 226). Although Coulthard s interpretation aligns with the tone of the story, it could also be
argued that Jackson s emphasis on the commonplace of human aggression could be due to the fact that
the lottery is a longstanding tradition. This opinion is supported by Griffin who believes that human
need for traditions has always been present. She supports this by discussing the ancient cultures who
performed sacrificial rituals to mimic the life cycle. This is seen in The Lottery because the

Analysis Of Forced Founders By Woody Holton
Throughout Forced Founders: Indians, Debtors, Slaves, and the Making of the American Revolution
in Virginia, Woody Holton argues that the causes of the Revolutionary War are different than what
most people once concluded. Although many American s believe that George Washington and Thomas
Jefferson are the men who led this revolution, Holton brings up a new theory on how the war began.
As Holton s title states, he believes that Indians, debtors, and slaves had a bigger role in the making of
the American Revolution. Throughout the entire novel, Holton argues that the American Revolution is
not led by the elite men of Virginia, but the nonessential people are those who play the biggest roles in
the making of this war.
Holton begins his book ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The main problems between this group of people is their opinions about slave trade. The British
government s insistence on keeping slave trade is one of the main causes of Virginia s separation from
Great Britain (73). The merchants, of course, did not want to break ties with Britain because trading
was their income. Therefore, one difference of opinion and thousands of lives of slaves is what Holton
argues is another main reason for the cause of the American Revolution.
The second part of the book focusses on the boycotts that the Virginians inaugurated in order to
receive what they wanted from Great Britain. Holton argues that these boycotts are also a huge part of
what started the American Revolution. The American colonist established the nonimportation
association in order to pressure Parliament to repeal laws that endangered their civil liberties (78). The
importance of these boycotts is evident in history because they played a huge role in the starting of the
American Revolution because not only did these boycotts help start the revolution, but they also ended
it. Without these boycotts and without the colonist pushing to have their way there would have never
been any change. Not only that, but these boycotts helped create the conditions for the greatest
movement of black resistance that Virginia had ever known (105). This was the beginning of freedom
for the slaves from their owners, as well

Lodz Ghetto Thesis
LODZ GHETTO
The Lodz Ghetto was located in Poland. During its time throughout the events of World War II, it was
the second largest concentration camp in construction, only to Auschwitz Birkenau located in southern
Poland and opened up in 1940. We also saw the railroad tracks that were at the concentration camp
during the tour at the Holocaust museum. The Lodz Ghetto was started one week after capture on the
date of September 14th, 1939. It was as well one of the first camps to be started under Germanic reign
during World War II as well. Over 160,000 Jews were stuffed into to the poorly sanitized area. On
November 7, 1939, Lodz was incorporated into the Third Reich and the Nazi s changed its name to
Litzmannstadt, named after a German general who died while attempting to conquer Lodz in World
War I.
The next several months were marked by daily round ups of Jews for forced labor as well as random
beatings and killings on the streets. It was easy to distinguish between Pole and Jew because on
November 16, 1939 the Nazi s had ordered Jews to wear an armband on their right arm. The armband
was the precursor to the Star Of David which was soon to follow on December 12, 1939. On
December 10th, 1939, the Govenor of the Lodz area Friedrich Übelhör. He wrote a secret

Essay on The Double Helix
The Double Helix
The discovery of the structure by Crick and Watson, with all its biological implications, has been one
of the major scientific events of this century. (Bragg, The Double Helix, p1) In the story of The
Double Helix, James Watson tells of the road that led to the discovery of life s basic building block
DNA. This autobiography gives insight into science and the workings within a professional research
laboratory that few members of society will ever be able to experience. It also gives the reader an idea
of the reality of life for one scientist and how he struggled with the problem of DNA. However, the
author s style is marked by his lack of objectivity and inclusion of many biased opinions and personal

Two people not in the Cavendish lab, but equally as involved in the discovery of the structure of DNA
were Maurice Wilkins and Rosalind Franklin, from King s College in London. While writing about
many of the afore mentioned individuals Watson emitted a constant attitude of indifference and his
actions toward Rosalind Franklin equally reflected that indifference.
The following excerpt is Watson s initial description of Rosalind, or Rosy as she was refered to when
not within earshot.
I suspect that in the beginning Maurice hoped that
Rosy would calm down. Yet mere inspection suggested
that she would not easily bend. By choice she did not
emphasize her feminine qualities. Though her features
were strong, she was not unattractive and might have
been quite stunning had she taken even a mild interest in
clothes. This she did not. There was never lipstick to
contrast her straight black hair, while at the age of thirty
one her dresses showed all the imagination of English
blue stocking adolescents. So it was quite easy to see her
the product of an unsatisfied mother who unduly stressed
the desirability of professional careers that could save
bright girls from marriages to dull men. But this was not
the case. Her dedicated, austere life could not be thus
explained she was the daughter of a solidly comfortable,

The Causes And Effects Of The United States
Imagine strolling to the local grocery store, taking a morning run, or merely gathering the daily mail
wearing a mask as a shield against gassy smog. Think about the terror that strikes some people when
they turn on their faucets only to see a string of tainted, brown solution. Pollution affects thousands of
human individuals, animals, forests, cities, and ecosystems. With shocking effects and staggering
statistics, our water sources, the air we breathe, and the land upon which we live suffer from this
plague. Unfortunately, the causes and effects of this universal dilemma deteriorate the health and well
being of all life forms on earth.
Although land, light, and noise pollution leave their mark on this planet, air and water pollution inflict
even more damage. Across the globe, from Beijing to the U.S. to Africa, we see, and contribute to the
causes of pollution daily. Because of harmful chemicals that waft up to the atmosphere, the ozone
faces depletion. Automobiles and other forms of transportation emit dangerous toxins, along with
putrid, black smoke that spews from the exhaust pipes of large vehicles. Smoke from factories
contributes generously to contamination, as well. Even natural disasters play a momentous role in air
pollution as exhibited by sulfur dioxide, a volcanic gas that kills those who come in contact with it and
leaves soil infertile for years (Pollution). Another substance absolutely necessary to life on earth water
teems with pollutants. Human

Amendments Of The 13th Amendment
Thesis
After the United States abolished slavery, the country passed three new Constitutional amendments.
The 13th Amendment abolished slavery, the 14th Amendment provided citizenship to newly freed
slaves, and the 15th Amendment gave them the right to vote. However, the Supreme Court stated
judgments and rulings that placed blacks in a degrading and an inferior position in the United States.
Established from the Jim Crow Laws, throughout the years of 1877 to 1954, schools were segregated
by law. Black people were not allowed to attend a white dominant school. In 1957, Little Rock,
Arkansas, nine African American students enrolled at Central High School, an all white school, were
prevented from entering the school because they were black. It caused conflict and controversy
between the governor of Arkansas and the president of the united states, rebellion of society and the
students (Civil Rights Movement), and in our society today, education is accessible to everyone.
Orval E. Faubus and Dwight D. Eisenhower Governor Orval Faubus was a huge national image of
racial segregation in 1957. Faubus commanded the Arkansas National Guardsmen to deny entrance of
nine African American students, called The Little Rock Nine, to Central High School. In 1958,
Governor Faubus delivered a speech, speaking about school integration. In his speech, he states,
Those who would integrate our schools at any price are still among us .1 Faubus is insinuating that,

Erik Homberger Erikson s Life Of The Lakota And The Yurok
Erik Homberger Erikson was born on June 15, 1902 in Frankfort, Germany. Erikson was born to his
Jewish mother Karla Abrahamsen, and his biological father who was an unnamed Danish man who
abandoned him before he was born. During his school years, he studied art and different languages
instead of chemistry and biology. When he graduated he was interested in becoming an artist. During
the 1920 s he decided to travel Europe, where he had to sleep under bridges. After traveling around
Europe for a year, he decided to enroll in an art school back in Germany. He stayed at the art school
for several years. Then he began to teach art and other subjects to American children who came to
Vienna for Freudian training. Erikson was admitted to the Vienna Psychoanalytic Institute. In 1933 he
moved to Boston, where he filled a position at Harvard medical school as America s first child analyst.
While he taught at Yale and Berkley, he did his famous studies on the modern life of the Lakota and
the Yurok. Erikson is known for being a prolific writer. He has wrote many books and essays such as
Childhood and Society (1950), Youngman Luther (1958), Youth: change and challenge (1963), Etc.
Erikson went on to teach at a clinic in Massachusetts then back to Harvard before he retired in 1970.

Cure of the Streets
The poet Rainer Maria Rilke says that a work of art is good if it has sprung from necessity (Farley).
Hip Hop was born on the poor and dangerous streets of the USA. Minorities such as African
Americans and Hispanics dominated these streets, and they felt the need to address their long standing
common issues. Therefore, a new form of art, hip hop was born, and became the method of self
expression for these minorities. Lyrics have presented what they have been through. While rap has
turned from a tool of self expression to a multi billion dollar industry, it has continued to
constructively affect the social and economic structure of the society. While serving as a good
alternative to the streets, hip hop positively uplifts the cultural barriers within the society and educates
the youth. In order to better understand the necessity and the influence of hip hop, the history of how
and where this music emerged is highly important. In the 1970s, Hip hop was born in the immensely
impoverished, crime ridden, drug infested streets of the Bronx , which were often called America s
worst slum or the epitome of urban failure (Price 4). Emmett Price III, the writer of Hip Hop Culture,
says that the ostracized, marginalized, and oppressed youth started hip hop as a liberation movement ,
and they aimed to combat against issues of racial prejudice, cultural persecution, and social,
economic, and political disparities (Price 1). From the 1970s to the 1990s, hip hop had increased

It is also used in making switches and various other electronic apparatus. It is also used in make
thermometers and barometers because of its greatest density of 13.534 gm cm to power of 3, it does
not need a large tube to measure the pressure and thermometer. Like in a barometer if we use water
then we would need a tube of 10.4m to measure the atmospheric temperature but if we use mercury
we can measure the atmospheric temperature in a tube on only 0.76m. In a thermometers because of
its large range of the boiling and melting points, it helps us to measure a large range of temperature. It
also been used for making batteries. It can also be used to dental amalgams. Mercury is used to make
dental amalgam because when it is mixed with amalgam powder, the compound it creates is soft
enough to press on the tooth. it also becomes hard very fast which helps it to withstand the force of
biting. But it has raised question on whether it is safe and U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA)
evaluated the research and told it is safe for people above 6 years of age. **** One of the
disadvantage of mercury is that it is toxic in nature due to which it has to be handled with care. Due to
which it can result in death of people if they get mercury poisoning and if it is not treated in time. Due
to mercury we are now able to make thermometers and barometers which has helped the people a lot.
Due to it has helped us to find

The moon is widely believed to have formed when a mars sized object collided into the earth about
4.5 billion years ago this impact was so catastrophic that debris was kicked into orbit around earth

these phases take about 29 days to complete. The phases of the Moon depend on its position in

Analysis Of Many Thousands Gone
In Ira Berlin s book, Many Thousands Gone, the main focus is on the transformations that slavery
went through from 1619 to 1800. Also, Ira Berlin investigates the ways that slaves and their owners
discussed freedom. Meaning that the slaves actions, no matter how powerful the slave owner was, the
actions were not in his power. This makes the history of slavery a time of African American failures
and successes in strategies. Ira Berlin focuses on the first two centuries of slavery in America in four
major regions. Those four major regions being The North, The Chesapeake, The South Carolina
Georgia Florida Lowcountry, and the Mississippi Valley. This all happens in the three periods that Ira
Berlin chooses to focus on; the charter ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But putting together a synthesis of a burgeoning field while offering up a new interpretive perspective
is a tall order. In his most recent book, Ira Berlin has delivered the synoptic, yet forward moving,
study of colonial slavery that scholars have needed for the past thirty years (Hadden). One important
part from Ira Berlin s thesis is how he changes geographical locations and time periods to show the
different stages. All throughout the book, each chapter, has a different location and as the reader reads
through the book the years move forward. That is how the reader can read about the four different
regions of America; The North, The Chesapeake, The South Carolina Georgia Florida Lowcountry,
and the Mississippi Valley. Also the three main time periods; the charter generations of the seventeenth
century, the eighteenth century, and the revolutionary period. All the while Ira Berlin starts at 1619
and ends in the 1800s. Slave conditions in the lowcountry were similar to those in the Chesapeake and
North except that here they were taken to extremes (chapter 3). This quote proves that Ira Berlin
moved regions in the book, but still focused on slavery in each. Also, the focus was specific to slavery
in each region. While Ira Berlin compared and contrasted each region and time period of slavery
together in the chapters also.

Thy Sacrifice is Thy Salvation
Thy Sacrifice is Thy Salvation
Novels hold telling testaments within fraying pages, binding spines, breathless words, all to the sway
of theme and development. The complexity of a story can neither be salvaged nor understood but from
the barest elements that comprise its thematic importance. As this is but a proclaimed truth, it is given
that the themes of a narrative are the skeletal system as the parchment serves as its skin, the central
core to which without the foundation of, the entire system crumbles into but a mass. A Tale of Two
Cities is a work of grand depth, though its most fundamental seed is but the importance of rebirth
through sacrifice. This overarching theme is rooted in each character sprung from its roots, wrapped ...

Charles Darnay comes to us as a man of seemingly wondrous fortune, luck, though seeming of little
true consequence despite the manner of his introduction. These are the starting frames of their
character, the shallow impressions, the skeletons that shall parade through the pages of the book,

his miraculous transformation comes in the form of aid of his daughter, Lucie, that allows him to

hollowness, evolving into not a shadow of his former self, but a mirror, then an evolution, stronger
both in body as well as mind breathing, through actions and pages, capturing and reborn from the

Linguistic Impact Essay
Linguistic Impact In the field of Modern Languages and Linguistics, words are of great importance. A
language s phonology (study of how sounds are organized and used), morphology (study of the form
and structure of words), syntax (study of the rules that govern sentence structure), semantics (study of
meaning of words, sentences, and expressions), pragmatics (study of aspects of meaning and language
use and context), and phonetics (study of human speech sounds) all play an important part in everyday
life. These have a major impact in understanding the intent of what is spoken or heard. Due to the

therefore metaphors are meaningful. Due to the diversity of the Hispanic culture, some metaphors
have varying points of origin although the meanings are the same. There is, for instance, the saying,
De tal palo, tal astilla ; which literally means from such a stick such a splinter (Cuentos y dichos) . Its
actual meaning is like father like son or a chip off the old block. Although it is of Mexican origin, it

common metaphor is Estar hasta el gorro. It literally means to be up to the hat. The English translation
is to be fed up (with) (Larousse Dictionary). It is so widely used that no particular place of origin is

particular country. For example, the population in the Dominican Republic contains a racial mixture of
Black, White and Mestizo (mixed Spanish and Indian ancestry). A common metaphor used by
Dominicans is Cabello muerto. Its literal meaning is Dead Head. But, the actual meaning is a person

Gandhi Liberation And Decolonitarianism
Mohandas K. Gandhi`s writing in the Autobiography (1927) can be interpreted as a cascade of
significant events throughout his life that led to him becoming one of the most universally recognized
icon on earth. Gandhi is able to find a meaning in each event of his life that attaches him to the notions
of non violence, liberation, and decolonization. In this specific writing by Gandhi, it highlights little
events such as his childhood where he treated it as an experiment stage, doing things like smoking and
eating meat which were looked down up. From these experiences he understood concepts like ahisma
and adharm. Deeper into the text, Gandhi talks about complication`s that arise in his life. Things like
being kicked out of his caste because he chose to go to England to study Law and despite going
through all the training and education he opposed by the Law society due to his colour in terms of
admission to the Supreme Court as a lawyer. Despite these events, Gandhi was able to recognize that it
is not necessarily important for him to simply tag along but he felt that he was now obligated to speak
up and question individuals, organizations, and the government. He was able to realize that with his
knowledge in law (political) and his values derived from religion (metaphysical) he had the tools to
overcome societal issues (civil).
What is Gandhi`s overall or major arguments?

Upon reviewing the details of Why Nice Guys Finish Last, the author Julia Serano emphasizes that
with society being the way it is, men tend to become bad boys because society and culture is brought
up to believe that the way to win a womans heart and attention is by being sexually aggressive. Julia
Serano argues that in order to recognize rape culture, we must first learn to understand the predator /
prey mindset. In this essay, I will argue that in order to neutralize the predator / prey mindset, society
needs to stop looking at women as the prey and the men as the predators. I believe that if society
learns how to overlook men as being hunters and women as the prey, that would make the amount of
rape occurrences drop massively.
In my past experiences I have ubiquitously heard throughout my life: Nice guys finish last. Women
don t want a man that is sweet and sensitive because it is a speculation that all women want a real
man. The comprehension of a real man in this society is taught to be someone who is dominant,
someone who leads and takes control. Nice guys continuously get turned down by women because
women are accustomed to see the sympathetic man as being unnatural and bizarre. In my opinion,
dominance and sexual aggression are the key ingredients in capturing a woman s attention. Womens
brains are stimulated automatically to set one s sights on a man who can protect them. Which is why
they fall towards the sexual

Auditing the Revenue Cycle
|Learning Check |
The revenue cycle includes the activities involved in the exchange of goods and services with
customers and the realization of the revenue in cash.
The classes of transactions in this cycle for a merchandising company are sales, sales adjustments, and
cash receipts. The primary accounts affected by these transactions are sales, accounts receivable, cost
of sales, inventory, cash, sales discounts, sales returns and allowances, bad debts expense, and
allowance for uncollectable accounts

a hotel.
a. Certain balance sheet accounts like accounts receivable and inventories are going to be very
significant for the computer manufacturer, but relatively immaterial for the hotel. The computer
company is also likely to have a higher ratio of sales to fixed assets, or sale to total assets, than the
hotel.
b. The computer company auditor will have significant issues associated with the risk of misstatement
with respect to the existence of receivables and inventories that are not present for the hotel. The
computer company auditor will also have to address valuation and allocation issues associated with
the collectability of receivables and lower of cost or market of inventories that are insignificant for the
hotel. The hotel will have a potential risk of material misstatement in terms of how it accounts for
revenues from properties that it manages for others, as opposed to properties that it owns.

profitability targets or industry norms that were not achieved in reality owing to such factors as global,

Comparison Of King Kamehameha And Giuseppe Mazzini
King Kamehameha and Giuseppe Mazzini both grew to be great leaders. King Kamehameha was the
person who unified all the Hawaiian Islands under his rule. Kamehameha, however, was not always at
the top of the heap. He started off as a normal ali i but because of his increasing reputation after
defeating many others in powerful positions, gained control of all the Islands. Kamehameha was a
very tall and physically fit man, as well as skilled mentally and at the art of war (including using
weapons and fighting). Giuseppe Mazzini was the leader and founder of the political movement
(Risorgimento) that overthrew Italy s rule and united Italy with other kingdoms (e.g. Rome). He
believed in Italian freedom much like his fellow exiles, and got many people to join his cause. This is
what makes both King Kamehameha and Giuseppe Mazzini successful and effective leaders.
King Kamehameha and Giuseppe Mazzini are both effective leaders and have many similarities
although they had different ideals. First of all, both Kamehameha and Mazzini unified different
kingdoms. Kamehameha was the leader of the unification of the Hawaiian Islands, and Mazzini was
the leader of the unification of Italy. Kamehameha and Mazzini both overthrew/took over
governments in the process of unification. They altered the government in a way that suited the people
and themselves. Also, both of these leaders started out with little say in matters and didn t previously
have great power. They had to work their way up

They Killed My Father Survival Quotes
Let every nation know, whether it wishes us well or ill, that we shall pay any price, bear any burden,
meet any hardship, support any friend, oppose any foe to assure the survival and the success of liberty
by John F. Kennedy. This quote illustrates how no matter the circumstance survival will be present.
This relates to Loung because this is her first instinct on everything that occurs in her life. First They
Killed My Father by Loung Ung is about a young girl named Loung and her family. The family is
forced to leave the city of Phenom Pen in Cambodia during the 1950s. The Khmer Rounge come in

Secrets can be a dangerous part of survival. Kim has been bringing home extra food rations from the
Chief of the village. The entire family is dependent on the extra food for survival. The family is trying
to stretch the food and make it last as long as they can. Everyone in the house is suffering from
starvation and needs the extra food. Loung decides one night to eat some of the extra food. Loung
states, I slowly lifted off the top. My hand reached in and took out a handful of uncooked rice and
quickly shoved it into my hungry mouth before anyone woke up and made me put it back (Ung 90).
Everyone in the family needs more food; however, Loung makes this difficult decision to steal rice
from the family in order to help herself suffer from starvation at a minimal. The small amount of rice
she stole could be the decision between life and death for Loung; she was able to make a difficult
decision like this because she has to think about her well being. This is not fair to everyone because
they do not know who takes the rice, but Loung fends for herself and takes the rice and lives with this
forever. Accordingly, secrets about difficult decisions help Loung survive that much more by stealing
the rice from her family so she is less

The Influence Of Du Bois On Progressive Education
must have higher schools to teach teachers for the common schools (Of the Training of Black Men).
Du Bois believed that these initiatives were crucial in order to catch up to whites and establish a
platform for blacks. Based on the aforementioned aspirations of Du Bois, witnesses can find
overlapping ideas on progressive education from the Early Republic era. However, the main additive
to the scene during the Progressive Era by Du Bois was to establish political opportunity for African
Americans. This would have to be accomplished by recognizing black identity through cultural and
intellectual movements. Overall, these historical concepts and leaders opened up opportunities to
extend on the goals of the Early Republic Era. Again, these hopes

If you want to acquire a pepper spray that is more effective than the typical one, then a pepper gel is
one of the sought after self defense tools that you can obtain nowadays. The difference of pepper spray
gel vs pepper spray liquid varies on the distance, number of shots, size and type. Although both forms
are effective in deterring both human and animal attackers, the pepper spray gel is a better self defense
alternative especially if you are suddenly attacked indoors.
Pepper Spray Gel as a Better Alternative to Other Self Defense Products

February 6th is the International Day of Zero Tolerance for Female Genital Mutilation. This day was
established to advocate FGM s harmful effects to girls and the deprival result it has to women s rights.
In 1997, the United Nations partnered up with the United Nations Children s Fund (UNICEF) and the
United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) in anticipating advancing the abandonment. These funds
have attended conferences to discuss the most effective and efficient way to abolish the mutilation.
UNFPA and UNICEF established the largest global program and targets 17 countries in Africa. The
UN is making considerable efforts to eradicate FGM including public policy changes and research.

The KMG led to such a decrease by focusing mainly on conversations in the communities to discuss
social issues. Ethiopian citizens have been trained to educate the public and convene with
organizations that will help. FGM in Ethiopia has decreased by 10 percent in 2016. The country has
also incorporated the 2015 Demographic and Health Survey and Child, Early and Forced Marriage to
control the situation.
Solutions:
Female Genital Mutilation is one of the biggest health threats to women in the world. It discriminates
against their right to health and security. Ethiopia notices this world problem and proposes solutions
leading to the elimination of the practice. First, Ethiopia proposes to spread awareness all over the
world. In undeveloped countries, this will be done by partnering up with NGO s including: Save the
Children, V Day, Worldvision, and Equality Now. This practice is believed to be decreased and
eventually stopped by educating the sovereignty of the dangers and threats FGM conceives. Respected
locals would be encouraged to educate not only the women on the harmful effects, however also boys
and men, the public, faith leaders, and health professionals. For the public to act and comprehend this,
the speakers must be trusted and efficient. The public will be taught how to avoid pressure of being
accepted from the community and doubt how FGM is necessary to become suitable for marriage. By

Plakobranchus Ocellatus
The Plakobranchus ocellatus feeds on great variety of green algae (Christa et al. 2012) they are known
to sequester ingested plastids (kleptoplasts) within specialized cells of the digestive gland, and are said
to have a long term retention (LtR) form that incorporates chloroplasts for several months and thus
allowing them to undergo periods of starvation while continuing photosynthetic activity. Not much is
known about the food sources of this sacoglossan, but it is suggested that P. ocellatus is a species
complex and feeds on a broad variety of Ulvophyceae (Christa, Wescott L, et al 2013)

The mean/standard deviation of the results obtained can be viewed in Table 1. The greatest difference
was seen within the standard deviation of the weight of the plant seedlings in a high CO2
concentration (0.4326 g). This can be seen in the mean value (average) of the plant seedlings in the
high CO2 concentration, which was 1.153 g.
Further evidence of this can be observed in Figure 2, exhibiting that the standard deviation increased
as well as the mean dry weight along with the CO2. The t test results in table 2 show that the
probability results for the initial and Low weight (0.6501) is above 0.05, therefore establishing the
indication that the weight between the two sets of data have significantly less differences, thus being
more likely due to chance. However, the t test results for the Low and Normal weight (4.895 x 10 5),
Normal and High seedling weight (8.964 x 10 8) and Low and High seedling weight (2.291 x 10 9) are
below 0.05, illustrating that their figures are not due to chance alone. It is clear that the difference

significant, further confirming that as the concentration of CO2 intensifies so does the weight of

I am researching this because I am interested in medieval and roman weaponry and how it works so it
was a simple choice to make and test different weapons from those eras. I am finding out which shoots
the furthest the crossbow, the catapult, or the slingshot and if I do not know how they work, I cannot
compare them to each other so I decided to research this.
My hypothesis is that the catapult will shoot the furthest and I think that I am right do to previous
research by professionals. But in other cases the catapult is made to full size but in this case it is made
to a scale factor of 25% of its original size so that might affect the result because in the larger version
there is more force on the launcher and in the crossbow there isn t as much tension build up.

to read was that the rescue and clean up costs totaled to an amount of at least $11billion.
The OECD report also explains how as a result of the attacks on both the US and UK, both counties
have become more vigilant by increasing their border controls. This has slowed down the rate of
supply at which goods are able to flow between countries and increased costs. Increased security
checks at air, rail and seaports have seen delays for passengers and may impact the tourist industry as
it impinges on travel plans. Many companies now choose to use video conferencing instead. The
OECD goes on to explain that government spending policies have also shifted with more money now
being spent on defense and security.

An Enemy Of The People Character Analysis
The Plot of An Enemy of the People
Majority of the good stories begin with a crucial list of the ingredients such as the initial situation, the
conflict, the complication, the climax, the suspense, the denouement as well as the conclusion. An
Enemy of the People by Ibsen Henrik is a play that encompasses all these ingredients. The drama
takes the form of a unified plot since it has a chronological order of events from the beginning to the
end. In this paper, I will analyze the plot of this drama play by specifically examining the plot type,
plot action and how in overall the plot is structured.
At the start of the drama, everything appears hunky dory as every individual has a higher expectation
of the Baths to generate a lot of money for the town. Dr. Stockman, the protagonist, is surrounded by
families and friends who all appear to love him. Definitely, there is some sibling rivalry that is taking
place with the mayor, Peter Stockman who is his brother. However, the thing looks fine ultimately,
then Dr. Stockman announces a discovery that he has determined from his investigation that
Municipal`s Baths are actually contaminated with a bacteria. He emphasizes that if there is nothing
that is done to restore the situation, the water that is meant to heal the people will instead make them
sick (Ibsen 17). Upon this discovery, all the supposed friends of Dr. Stockman congratulate him and
praise him calling him a hero. All this is happening during the initial situation before the conflict is
reached.
During the conflict, Peter Stockman who is the mayor of the town brings bad news to Dr. Stockman
but Dr. Stockman swears to safeguard this news. Amidst this crisis, both Hovstad and Aslaksen show
up and promise to offer their support to Dr. Stockman. Dr. Stockman at first does not perceive the big
deal concerning the discovery. He is convinced from his laboratory findings that the water is actually
poisoned and that everybody wants this situation fixed. The bubble of Dr. Stockman is passed quickly
upon the arrival of Peter Stockman, his brother. The mayor informs Dr. Stockman that the town will
be ruined if the pollution of the Baths is fixed. Thusly, he Peter Stockman resorts to threatening his
brother. This makes

Marshall University
Marshall University is very special to its community because of its founded history, cataclysmic plane
crash, and its ability to come together as a town when tragedy strikes. Marshall University was
originally founded in 1837 for the children of local farmers. The local citizens of what is now
Huntington, West Virginia petitioned the General Assembly of Virginia to establish an advanced
educational program named after Chief Justice John Marshall. By 1850, financial support and the
instruction given had deteriorated. Trustees then decided it was time to give it up and offered it to the

They were enrolled in three programs: the primary, academic, and the normal. The primary school
served children ages six to fourteen; the academic school equipped students for business and for
further education. The normal school trained teachers for their duties in the educational system.
Furthermore, the first class of normal school students graduated in June 1870.
From 1880 into the 1900 s, Marshall College went through many changes. Academia and the Music
department expanded, enrollment finally surpassed two hundred, and the business department was
established. In 1907, Lawrence J. Corby, the president, developed intercollegiate athletics. The school
also added an addition for alumni and College Hall, a dormitory for women. Additionally, in 1913, the
legislation granted $158,000, $45,000 of that went to a new science building and a gymnasium.
The years between 1915 and 1946 struck a steady growth in expansions, enrollment, and improvement
of a curriculum. Marshall s curriculum was then eligible to be a four year college in 1920, and
awarded its first baccalaureate degrees in 1921. The school also had more teachers earing terminal
degrees, developed a student government, and the athletics department earned the nickname the
Thundering Herd. In spite of the Great Depression, a music building, student union, two dormitories
were built, and the Albert Gallatin Jenkins Laboratory School was established for education

The research topic I have chosen for English 12 research essay is the JFK assassination theory. I
would like to research this because I have seen documents and videos online and on television about
the conspiracy but I have not done full research into it to see the facts. With the presidents of the
United States they are able to make or break the country with their decisions, with that JFK was
assassinated due to that and other reasons. I will be going into this research thinking that there is a
conspiracy behind the assassination of JFK that it wasn t hoax and I might witness data with biased
eyes. Even though I believe that I want to see what the other side of the spectrum believes and what
data they will show to convince people ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At 10:30am: Kennedy remarks to Jackie you know, last night would have been a hell of a night to
assassinate a president... that is a reference to their late night motorcade through For Worth in Texas.
At 11:50am: Multiple co workers see Oswald on the first floor of the book depository eating lunch.
With the motorcade leaving Love Field to begin the motorcade through Dallas.12:05pm: President
Kennedy makes his first of many stops at groups of people waiting to meet him and shake his hand,
delaying the motorcade by five minutes. The president s last minutes are crunching to the impact of
the gun shot from Lee. At 12:29pm: The president s limo turns onto Elm St. The first shot is fired
missing the president. A fragment from the bullet or debris from the street hit James Tauge who is
watching the motorcade in Dealey Plaza. A man is standing near the Stemmons Freeway sign with an
opened umbrella. With the umbrella man it is also a conspiracy theory that deals with JFK. At
12:30pm: The second shot is fired, causing Kennedy to go into Thornburn s position, He was shot in
the throat. This is a common neurological response to spinal damage. The third shot is fired, hitting
the president on the back, right side of his head, causing a portion of his head behind his right ear to
blow out. Right after the third shot is fired. Oswald quickly gets a Coke from the soda machine in the

Gender Relations During The Iranian Revolution
The subject of gender relations in Iran has been a contentious social issue and has become more
controversial since the Iranian Revolution of 1979. Mainstream news outlets such as CNN and BBC
have reported that the Islamization that followed the Islamic Republic has led to a reversal of women s
rights in Iran (Nia 2010; BBC 2009). The policies pursued by the Islamic Republic have, however,
facilitated education, mobilization, and participation for many women within the context of the
country (Gheissari 2009: 77). While the years following the Revolution served to restrict many
women in some respects, the policies enacted since the Islamic Republic have provided avenues of
empowerment for the most marginalized of women in Iran. The Iranian revolution mobilized the
women who now use these policies to seek greater rights within the framework of a conservative
Islamic society. The mobilization of women during the revolutionary process which gave rise to a
newfound sense of female agency and the unintentional widespread empowerment of women through
Islamization policies both contribute to the emergence of a contemporary women s movement in Iran.
Talal Asad asserts that, Islam as the object of anthropological understanding should be approached as
a discursive tradition that connects variously with the formation of moral selves, the manipulation of
populations (or resistance to it), and the production of appropriate knowledges (Asad 1986: 7). The
development of such a

Module 3: Assignment 2 Intercultural Employee Motivation and Rewards
March 11, 2015
According to (Olve, Roy and Wetter , 1999), it is important to understand motivation and cultural
influences to define reward system. It is essentials for a meaningful and measurable reward system to
motivate employees and to provide opportunities for professional development. Meaningful reward
system is a prospect for management to highlight the accomplishment during the specific time period.
It is essential to understand the perception triggered by culture, generation gap, and exposure
individual might have to comprehend the reason behind reward system. (Olve et al., 1999) argue that
reward system ought to be measured based on good intention and work shown by an employee during
specific time period at the current position. The organizational culture and diverse work force impose
some challenges for mangers to select the right form of reward system. The objectives and goals
should be measurable and on clearly defined expectations by supervisor and human resources. The
ratings for each objective in performance appraisal should narrate conclusive and measureable results.
Baron (2000) argues that within performance based reward system the anticipated developmental
goals should be based on the expected needs of employee and organization. This portion of the
performance appraisal highlights

Critical analysis of Disability by Nancy Mairs
Priscilla Farah
May 11, 2012 Author of disability Nancy Mairs who s a feminist and a cripple, has accomplished a lot
in writing and teaching. Her remarkable personality shows in many of her essays especially in
Disability which was first published in 1987 in the New York Times. In this essay, Nancy Mairs shows
how disabled people are constantly excluded, especially from the media. By giving out facts and
including her personal experiences, Mairs aims for making some changes regarding the relationship
between the media and people with disabilities. Mairs thesis is shown implicitly in the first ... Show

Nancy Mairs starts Disability with self revelations which show through her entire essay, like for
instance: I am a forty three year old woman crippled with multiple sclerosis... ; take it from me... ; I m
the advertisers dream... The fact that Nancy Mairs mentions herself a lot makes her essay lack
objectivity. But the reason behind this is that few are the people who can relate to this topic. So no one
really knows what this is about as much as Mairs and all disabled people who form a minority do.
This tells us that the author knows what she s talking about. Since this essay is addressed to people
who don t know much about disability, its purpose is not merely to inform us about the physical
disability itself but also about the psychological effects of the constant isolation and exclusion of
people with disabilities. This makes the essay persuasive rather than argumentative since the author
only mentioned her attitude towards this subject. But what a better way to do it than having a person
with disability talk about his/her personal experiences? Persuading people of Mairs point of view
which is that disabled people should be included in the daily activities couldn t be done by just stating
objective facts. This kind of persuasion needs examples. To prove that disabled people are unfairly
treated, Nancy Mairs gives an example of a crippled women who was stopped from doing what she
wanted to do, though she was still physically able to do

Minimally Invasive Robotic Laser Surgery in 2028
Surgery has been around for thousands of years. Ever since man has felt pain, man has looked to
surgery for relief. It started as a crude hole in the skull, and has evolved into techniques using lasers
and robots.
One cutting edge present technology that this paper will explore is the da Vinci Surgical Robotic
System [1], which is being used at Johns Hopkins [2]. This system performs minimally invasive
cardiac surgery; it makes the cuts more precise and saves lives. In the future, robotic surgery will
become more advanced, as sensory feedback in the da Vinci system could be a future breakthrough
that could revolutionize the whole concept of robotic surgery. We envision an improved da Vinci
system, with sensory feedback, very precise ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Paré started the method of ligating (tying off) arteries to control bleeding, instead of the outdated
method of cauterizing (searing) the bleeding part with a red hot iron.
However, most surgery was restricted to procedures that didn t penetrate deeply into the skin because
it caused too much pain to open the abdomen, chest, or skull. In 1846 anesthesia was used by William
Morton, a dentist. Morton is credited with the discovery of surgical anesthesia, but Crawford W. Long
used anesthesia in 1842 to remove tumors but didn t publish his results until 1849. Meanwhile, the
ancient Chinese have been using anesthesia 1600 years before the Europeans. Hua Tuo, a famous
Chinese physician during the Eastern Han and Three Kingdoms era, was the first person to perform
surgery with the aid of anesthesia.
Surgeons began performing new types of surgery on the abdomen, brain, and spinal cord in the late
1800s. Blood groups A, B, and O were discovered by Austrian pathologist Karl Landsteiner which
allowed transfusions, and blood banks were started in 1937.
There were more technological advances to permit surgeons to perform increasingly complex and
difficult operations. The heart lung machine was developed in 1953 by American surgeon John
Gibbon for easier surgery on organs [3]. The operating microscope was developed in the 1950s
providing surgeons with a way to perform operations on body structures like the inner ear and the eye,
and recently enabling surgeons

George Untiveros Research Paper
Take your biggest goals and dream in life. You ve have this dream since you were little. Now take a
stranger, an average stranger has a job gets paid minimum wage. And they want to take your dreams
or goals and life and laugh at you for it or maybe tell you that you could never do it. You were torn
down by it and you gave up because of that one person s opinion on you. Well not for George
Untiveros. George was born on August 8, 1948 in Huancayo, Peru. As a small blond haired boy he
was like any other kid in Peru. He went to school, did his homework and his chores and played outside

everyone else. George Untiveros always had an outlook on life and still does to this day, his outlook is
to follow your biggest goals in life and use a strong mindset to never give up on your dreams. George
s childhood took place in Huancayo, Peru. His family did not have a lot of money considering his
family consisted of seven children in his household and he was oldest of those seven. His parents

  • 2. The car has been a mainstay of American culture for about... The car has been a mainstay of American culture for about a century. The idea of a car in every garage has been around for almost as long. Teenagers view getting their driver s license as a rite of passage and our cross country highways support the notion of the Great American Road Trip. We drive our cars everywhere. And after all these years, doing so has become a problem. [1] Over the last century, the Earth s average temperature has risen by 1.4 °F. Over the next century, that average is expected to rise an additional 2 11.5 °F. This change has shown a strong correlation with the increase of greenhouse gases emitted by the burning of fossil fuels for energy and transportation. In fact, every year, human activity releases over ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... [4] Ethanol is a renewable energy source that can be produced domestically. It is produced from various plant materials such as corn, sugar cane and some types of grasses. Ethanol combustion will produce less greenhouse gas production and there is little extra cost to make vehicles able to run on high ethanol content fuel. While most of the gasoline used in the U.S. contains up to 15% ethanol, the more environmentally friendly E85 (or flex fuel) contains up to 83% ethanol. Unfortunately, this type of fuel can be problematic. Ethanol has a lower energy content than regular gasoline, which results in cars getting anywhere between 15 25% less miles per gallon (MPG). Furthermore, although E85 is generally cheaper per gallon, the lower energy content makes it slightly more expensive in terms of cost per mile. Finally, the fueling stations for E85 are generally located in the Midwest, which limits the widespread use of this type of energy alternative. [4] Biodiesel is another possible alternative. It can be produced from vegetable oils, animal fats, and recycled restaurant grease. Some of its advantages are that it is biodegradable, is generally safer to handle and it produces significantly less carbon dioxide emissions (up to 15% less). However, it too has problems. Similar to ethanol fuels, it has a lower energy content, which results in lesser MPG for cars. Fuels that contain a high percentage of biodiesel are also not ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 4. Shared Graduate Dance Concert at the Clarice Smith... At 3:00 PM on Sunday April 13th, 2014, I attended the performance Shared Graduate Dance Concert at the Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center Dance Theatre. Walking into the theatre I had anticipated experiencing an upright performance. This sensation came as I visited the website for the Shared Graduate Concert and saw a breath taking photo that entailed a person behind a curtain holding their hand up and a fuzzy person in front of a curtain. Also, I knew I was in for a good ride after I saw Meghan Bowden in the pamphlet. The temperament of the performance Canned Soup shook the audience out of their chairs. This scene in particular stood out to me the most. The woman dressed in a just a bathing suit, a pretty dark scene with only a beaming red light, and absolutely no music, obscured a unique type of humor during her performance. The scene was comprised of a small swimming pool, canned soup, and side performers dressed in black clothing with ties. In place of music Lynne Price was able to interact with her breath as a way to create a rhythm that she could move her body too. Movement quality is a very important aspect of any performance. Although, I thought all the pieces were astonishing, I felt the movement quality for each performance was slightly different. In Let me in. Let me out , many of the movements performed in were done in a ripple effect to peaceful music. Also, the performers incorporated their breath into their movement as the lights changed from light to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Tension In Shirley Jackson s The Lottery The Lottery by Shirley Jackson begins on a late summer morning, the villagers of a small New England town gather to conduct their annual lottery. There is an air of festivity among them, especially the children. Only a few in the crowd reveal slight hints of tension or unease. The lottery is a tradition within the community and the leader of the lottery, Mr. Summers, works hard to preserve it. Despite this, changes have crept in, and some old timers such as Old Man Warner regret what they perceive as a loss of a heritage that has preserved the happiness and prosperity of the town over time. All of the villagers congregate in town square, attendance is called, and the head of each family steps forward to take a slip of paper from the black box. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is evident through the lack of change in the tone as the events Jackson describes shift dramatically. In the beginning of the story, Jackson describes an idyllic clear and sunny day with the fresh warmth of a full summer day (Jackson 638). However, the events that follow strikingly contrast this description. The villagers armed with stones moved in on her and were upon her , even her own family participates in the stoning. Jackson maintains a constant calm tone even as the events she describes become increasingly dark. By doing this, Jackson emphasizes that this immense amount of human aggression is commonplace. This opinion of Jackson s intentions is supported by Coulthard. In his analysis of The Lottery , Coulthard states that It is not the ancient custom of human sacrifice that makes the villagers behave cruelly, but that their thinly veiled cruelty keeps the custom alive (Coulthard 226). Although Coulthard s interpretation aligns with the tone of the story, it could also be argued that Jackson s emphasis on the commonplace of human aggression could be due to the fact that the lottery is a longstanding tradition. This opinion is supported by Griffin who believes that human need for traditions has always been present. She supports this by discussing the ancient cultures who performed sacrificial rituals to mimic the life cycle. This is seen in The Lottery because the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Analysis Of Forced Founders By Woody Holton Throughout Forced Founders: Indians, Debtors, Slaves, and the Making of the American Revolution in Virginia, Woody Holton argues that the causes of the Revolutionary War are different than what most people once concluded. Although many American s believe that George Washington and Thomas Jefferson are the men who led this revolution, Holton brings up a new theory on how the war began. As Holton s title states, he believes that Indians, debtors, and slaves had a bigger role in the making of the American Revolution. Throughout the entire novel, Holton argues that the American Revolution is not led by the elite men of Virginia, but the nonessential people are those who play the biggest roles in the making of this war. Holton begins his book ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The main problems between this group of people is their opinions about slave trade. The British government s insistence on keeping slave trade is one of the main causes of Virginia s separation from Great Britain (73). The merchants, of course, did not want to break ties with Britain because trading was their income. Therefore, one difference of opinion and thousands of lives of slaves is what Holton argues is another main reason for the cause of the American Revolution. The second part of the book focusses on the boycotts that the Virginians inaugurated in order to receive what they wanted from Great Britain. Holton argues that these boycotts are also a huge part of what started the American Revolution. The American colonist established the nonimportation association in order to pressure Parliament to repeal laws that endangered their civil liberties (78). The importance of these boycotts is evident in history because they played a huge role in the starting of the American Revolution because not only did these boycotts help start the revolution, but they also ended it. Without these boycotts and without the colonist pushing to have their way there would have never been any change. Not only that, but these boycotts helped create the conditions for the greatest movement of black resistance that Virginia had ever known (105). The following excerpt is Watson s initial description of Rosalind, or Rosy as she was refered to when not within earshot. I suspect that in the beginning Maurice hoped that Rosy would calm down. Yet mere inspection suggested that she would not easily bend. By choice she did not emphasize her feminine qualities. Minorities such as African Americans and Hispanics dominated these streets, and they felt the need to address their long standing common issues. Therefore, a new form of art, hip hop was born, and became the method of self expression for these minorities. Lyrics have presented what they have been through. While rap has turned from a tool of self expression to a multi billion dollar industry, it has continued to constructively affect the social and economic structure of the society. While serving as a good alternative to the streets, hip hop positively uplifts the cultural barriers within the society and educates the youth. In order to better understand the necessity and the influence of hip hop, the history of how and where this music emerged is highly important. Rozik Jemyan Philosophy 101 Monday Night Upon reviewing the details of Why Nice Guys Finish Last, the author Julia Serano emphasizes that with society being the way it is, men tend to become bad boys because society and culture is brought up to believe that the way to win a womans heart and attention is by being sexually aggressive. Julia Serano argues that in order to recognize rape culture, we must first learn to understand the predator / prey mindset. In this essay, I will argue that in order to neutralize the predator / prey mindset, society needs to stop looking at women as the prey and the men as the predators. I believe that if society learns how to overlook men as being hunters and women as the prey, that would make the amount of rape occurrences drop massively. In my past experiences I have ubiquitously heard throughout my life: Nice guys finish last. Women don t want a man that is sweet and sensitive because it is a speculation that all women want a real man. The comprehension of a real man in this society is taught to be someone who is dominant, someone who leads and takes control. Nice guys continuously get turned down by women because women are accustomed to see the sympathetic man as being unnatural and bizarre. In my opinion, dominance and sexual aggression are the key ingredients in capturing a woman s attention. Womens brains are stimulated automatically to set one s sights on a man who can protect them. Solutions: Female Genital Mutilation is one of the biggest health threats to women in the world. It discriminates against their right to health and security. Ethiopia notices this world problem and proposes solutions leading to the elimination of the practice. First, Ethiopia proposes to spread awareness all over the world. In undeveloped countries, this will be done by partnering up with NGO s including: Save the Children, V Day, Worldvision, and Equality Now. This practice is believed to be decreased and eventually stopped by educating the sovereignty of the dangers and threats FGM conceives. Respected locals would be encouraged to educate not only the women on the harmful effects, however also boys and men, the public, faith leaders, and health professionals. For the public to act and comprehend this, the speakers must be trusted and efficient. The public will be taught how to avoid pressure of being accepted from the community and doubt how FGM is necessary to become suitable for marriage. By ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Plakobranchus Ocellatus The Plakobranchus ocellatus feeds on great variety of green algae (Christa et al. 2012) they are known to sequester ingested plastids (kleptoplasts) within specialized cells of the digestive gland, and are said to have a long term retention (LtR) form that incorporates chloroplasts for several months and thus allowing them to undergo periods of starvation while continuing photosynthetic activity. Not much is known about the food sources of this sacoglossan, but it is suggested that P. ocellatus is a species complex and feeds on a broad variety of Ulvophyceae (Christa, Wescott L, et al 2013) The slugs survived several months of starvation in complete darkness and in the light in the presence of the photosynthesis inhibitor monolinuron, kleptoplasts ... The greatest difference was seen within the standard deviation of the weight of the plant seedlings in a high CO2 concentration (0.4326 g). This can be seen in the mean value (average) of the plant seedlings in the high CO2 concentration, which was 1.153 g. Further evidence of this can be observed in Figure 2, exhibiting that the standard deviation increased as well as the mean dry weight along with the CO2. The t test results in table 2 show that the probability results for the initial and Low weight (0.6501) is above 0.05, therefore establishing the indication that the weight between the two sets of data have significantly less differences, thus being more likely due to chance. However, the t test results for the Low and Normal weight (4.895 x 10 5), Normal and High seedling weight (8.964 x 10 8) and Low and High seedling weight (2.291 x 10 9) are below 0.05, illustrating that their figures are not due to chance alone. I am researching this because I am interested in medieval and roman weaponry and how it works so it was a simple choice to make and test different weapons from those eras. My hypothesis is that the catapult will shoot the furthest and I think that I am right do to previous research by professionals. But in other cases the catapult is made to full size but in this case it is made to a scale factor of 25% of its original size so that might affect the result because in the larger version there is more force on the launcher and in the crossbow there isn t as much tension build up. An Enemy Of The People Character Analysis The Plot of An Enemy of the People Majority of the good stories begin with a crucial list of the ingredients such as the initial situation, the conflict, the complication, the climax, the suspense, the denouement as well as the conclusion. An Enemy of the People by Ibsen Henrik is a play that encompasses all these ingredients. The drama takes the form of a unified plot since it has a chronological order of events from the beginning to the end. In this paper, I will analyze the plot of this drama play by specifically examining the plot type, plot action and how in overall the plot is structured. At the start of the drama, everything appears hunky dory as every individual has a higher expectation of the Baths to generate a lot of money for the town. Dr. Stockman, the protagonist, is surrounded by families and friends who all appear to love him. Definitely, there is some sibling rivalry that is taking place with the mayor, Peter Stockman who is his brother. However, the thing looks fine ultimately, then Dr. Stockman announces a discovery that he has determined from his investigation that Municipal`s Baths are actually contaminated with a bacteria. He emphasizes that if there is nothing that is done to restore the situation, the water that is meant to heal the people will instead make them sick (Ibsen 17). Upon this discovery, all the supposed friends of Dr. Stockman congratulate him and praise him calling him a hero. All this is happening during the initial situation before the conflict is reached. During the conflict, Peter Stockman who is the mayor of the town brings bad news to Dr. Stockman but Dr. Stockman swears to safeguard this news. Amidst this crisis, both Hovstad and Aslaksen show up and promise to offer their support to Dr. Stockman. Dr. Stockman at first does not perceive the big deal concerning the discovery. He is convinced from his laboratory findings that the water is actually poisoned and that everybody wants this situation fixed. • 42. Gender Relations During The Iranian Revolution The subject of gender relations in Iran has been a contentious social issue and has become more controversial since the Iranian Revolution of 1979. Mainstream news outlets such as CNN and BBC have reported that the Islamization that followed the Islamic Republic has led to a reversal of women s rights in Iran (Nia 2010; BBC 2009). The policies pursued by the Islamic Republic have, however, facilitated education, mobilization, and participation for many women within the context of the country (Gheissari 2009: 77). While the years following the Revolution served to restrict many women in some respects, the policies enacted since the Islamic Republic have provided avenues of empowerment for the most marginalized of women in Iran. The Iranian revolution mobilized the women who now use these policies to seek greater rights within the framework of a conservative Islamic society. The mobilization of women during the revolutionary process which gave rise to a newfound sense of female agency and the unintentional widespread empowerment of women through Islamization policies both contribute to the emergence of a contemporary women s movement in Iran. Talal Asad asserts that, Islam as the object of anthropological understanding should be approached as a discursive tradition that connects variously with the formation of moral selves, the manipulation of populations (or resistance to it), and the production of appropriate knowledges (Asad 1986: 7). The fact that Nancy Mairs mentions herself a lot makes her essay lack objectivity. But the reason behind this is that few are the people who can relate to this topic. So no one really knows what this is about as much as Mairs and all disabled people who form a minority do. This tells us that the author knows what she s talking about. Since this essay is addressed to people who don t know much about disability, its purpose is not merely to inform us about the physical disability itself but also about the psychological effects of the constant isolation and exclusion of people with disabilities. This makes the essay persuasive rather than argumentative since the author only mentioned her attitude towards this subject. But what a better way to do it than having a person with disability talk about his/her personal experiences? Persuading people of Mairs point of view which is that disabled people should be included in the daily activities couldn t be done by just stating objective facts. This kind of persuasion needs examples.
