The document discusses the results of a survey conducted to help a group decide how to create a music video. Key results from the survey include that pop music was the most popular genre among the target audience at 40% of the vote. A majority of 50% preferred that the video include a narrative or story. For pace, 50% had no preference on fast or slow, so the group decided on fast to match the energy of the artist they were replicating. The group also discussed preferences around other aspects like use of color, locations, and referencing lyrics in the video.
This is a presentation by Dada Robert in a Your Skill Boost masterclass organised by the Excellence Foundation for South Sudan (EFSS) on Saturday, the 25th and Sunday, the 26th of May 2024.
He discussed the concept of quality improvement, emphasizing its applicability to various aspects of life, including personal, project, and program improvements. He defined quality as doing the right thing at the right time in the right way to achieve the best possible results and discussed the concept of the "gap" between what we know and what we do, and how this gap represents the areas we need to improve. He explained the scientific approach to quality improvement, which involves systematic performance analysis, testing and learning, and implementing change ideas. He also highlighted the importance of client focus and a team approach to quality improvement.
The Roman Empire A Historical Colossus.pdfkaushalkr1407
The Roman Empire, a vast and enduring power, stands as one of history's most remarkable civilizations, leaving an indelible imprint on the world. It emerged from the Roman Republic, transitioning into an imperial powerhouse under the leadership of Augustus Caesar in 27 BCE. This transformation marked the beginning of an era defined by unprecedented territorial expansion, architectural marvels, and profound cultural influence.
The empire's roots lie in the city of Rome, founded, according to legend, by Romulus in 753 BCE. Over centuries, Rome evolved from a small settlement to a formidable republic, characterized by a complex political system with elected officials and checks on power. However, internal strife, class conflicts, and military ambitions paved the way for the end of the Republic. Julius Caesar’s dictatorship and subsequent assassination in 44 BCE created a power vacuum, leading to a civil war. Octavian, later Augustus, emerged victorious, heralding the Roman Empire’s birth.
Under Augustus, the empire experienced the Pax Romana, a 200-year period of relative peace and stability. Augustus reformed the military, established efficient administrative systems, and initiated grand construction projects. The empire's borders expanded, encompassing territories from Britain to Egypt and from Spain to the Euphrates. Roman legions, renowned for their discipline and engineering prowess, secured and maintained these vast territories, building roads, fortifications, and cities that facilitated control and integration.
The Roman Empire’s society was hierarchical, with a rigid class system. At the top were the patricians, wealthy elites who held significant political power. Below them were the plebeians, free citizens with limited political influence, and the vast numbers of slaves who formed the backbone of the economy. The family unit was central, governed by the paterfamilias, the male head who held absolute authority.
Culturally, the Romans were eclectic, absorbing and adapting elements from the civilizations they encountered, particularly the Greeks. Roman art, literature, and philosophy reflected this synthesis, creating a rich cultural tapestry. Latin, the Roman language, became the lingua franca of the Western world, influencing numerous modern languages.
Roman architecture and engineering achievements were monumental. They perfected the arch, vault, and dome, constructing enduring structures like the Colosseum, Pantheon, and aqueducts. These engineering marvels not only showcased Roman ingenuity but also served practical purposes, from public entertainment to water supply.

1. It was clear from the opening question of our audience survey that the large majority were in favour
of a Pop video. A Pop video got 40% of our vote which showed us that this would be the most
sensible genre to use as it would appeal to our target audience because it had the largest percentage.
From a personal point of view, I would say out of all the music genre's that were available before
the survey was taken out, Pop would be the most recognisable genre to our audiences. We put in the
other genre's as we feel that these are genre's that are generating more popularity recently, so we did
it more as a test than anything else. Although we are happy that the Pop genre is still the most
popular, as this is a genre more audiences can relate to.
I felt it was very important for our target audiences to support a narrative within a video, as it makes
it more fun for everyone involved to be able to tell a story within a music video. The narrative
option got a substantial 50% of the vote which made it a clear outright winner, and we do feel with
our music video that we will be able to tell a story through through our variety of shots and
locations in London. The one outcome we didn't want was the video to be abstract as the last thing
we would want for our audience is to feel like that the video didn't have any purpose as we want it
to send a powerful message.
I found it interesting that a 50% majority of our audience had no opinion on whether they preferred
a music video to hold fast pace editing or slow pace editing. This meant as a group it was left to us
2. to decide how we wanted our music video to come across, and we agreed that it would better if the
video was fast paced. The group decided this as we felt that because we were replicating a song by
Kanye West who is known for his energy and antics in his music videos, we couldn't then make our
video slow paced as a large section of our target audience wouldn't then be able to relate to what we
are trying to do.
I think as a group we knew that a large section of our target audiences wouldn't be interested in
black and white videos as they aren't current and that is what are audiences are interested in. I
believe that black and white videos would only be a success in today's market if they were produced
by big artists such as Kanye West, who's video Black Skinhead was in black and white. Even
though it is still being done, I feel that there are many other better directions you can take your
music video in.
I found this quite surprising as I felt that our target audience would be more interested in multiple
locations instead of just a single location in a music video. I say this because our plan as a group is
to film in a variety of locations across London which we hope will be a success, as they are
locations that everyone will be aware of and would of seen them before. I understand the audiences
wanting multiple individuals in the music video, as this gives it more vibrancy and energy which is
what we are hoping to create through our own music video. There will be plenty of people in
London on the day which means they are likely to appear in the music video at some point.
3. I think as a group we were aware that this maybe a slightly split vote, and this was apparent with
50% voting yes for the video having a strong reference to the lyrics of the music and 40% voting
no. This is because these days many music videos don't have barely any reference to the song. For
example I came across the music video recently for One Direction's new single 'Steal my Girl' and
the music video involves chimps and sumo wrestlers. This clearly shows that this music video was
more for publicity then trying to relate to the lyrics which actually are trying to tell a story.
This result as a group wasn't a great result as it revealed that around 80% of our audiences didn't
have much interest in watching music videos. This means that when we put all our effort into
creating the best music video possible, our survey reveals that 80% of our target audience won't
even be interested in watching it. I believe we can change this by creating a music video with loads
of energy and plenty of exciting locations, we hope this will change people's opinions and give us
the best chance of our music video being a success.
