What have you learned from
your audience feedback?
What is audience feedback?
• Audience feedback is when you ask the people of your
target audience what their thoughts on your music
video was.
• At the beginning of the project we asked 30 people
from a range of different age groups what they would
like to see. From this information we We gathered the
applied and constructed our video based on this.
• This particular audience feedback was conducted at
the end of the production to a panel of people from a
wide range of age groups and social backgrounds, to
recognise if our music video was at all successful in
meeting the conventions of a typical RnB music video.
Audience Feedback 1- Questionnaire
• 1. Male Female
• 2. 16-19 20-24 25-30 31-35 35+
• 3. Do you like to see flash backs in music videos?
• Yes No
4. What location/s do you expect to see?
• 5. What objects/props do you expect to see?
• 6. How do you expect their hair/make-up to be?
• 7. What clothes do you expect them to wear?
• 8. How do you expect their body language to be?
• 9. Do you expect any particular types of lighting/effect to be used?
• 10. Do you expect the camera to be shot in a certain way?
• 11. Do you expect the edits to be in a certain way?
• 12. Can you give an example of a typical RnB music video that represents your
view?
• 13. What do you think the narrative/storyline should be?
We asked a diverse group of people from a range of different ethnicities, age groups
and social groups, what there views on our RnB music video.
Here are the questions we asked:
• We made sure that a wide range of our questions
aloud for qualitative data. This aloud for our
audience to provide us with a richer source of
data and a more subjective view as apposed to an
objective quantitative one.
• The advantage of using open questions was that I
could understand exactly what our audience
thought about our music video.
• However, the collation process of using an an
open questionnaire as our research method did
prove very difficult, as it is not quantitative data
making it difficult to create statistics.
Audience feedback
1)Do you think the editing were too close together?
2) In your opinion what genre would you classify
this music video?
3) Why do you think this?
4) Do you think the music video/CD cover and
magazine advert work well together? If yes
please specify?
5) What score would you rate the video from 1-5?
6) What would you improve?
Audience Feedback
• Gaining feedback after the production of this
project was necessary in evaluating what
people thought about our work but also if
they thought that we did indeed conform to
the typical conventions of an RnB video and
Question 1-Do you think the edits cut
at too much of a fast pace ?
yes
no
Here we asked 10 males and
females from the ages of 16-30 if
the pace of the edits was too
fast, 70% of the people we asked
said that the edits were appropriate
for the genre of music (RnB). Which
I agreed with, following with
conventions of a typical slow RnB
song.
Nevertheless 30% of them argued
that indeed the edits were too quick
for the pace of the song.
2&3) In your opinion what genre
would you classify this music video? &
Why do you think this?
‘This is exactly what RnB is all about. Slow motion edits with a
love story relationship’ – Jasmin Howall
‘I could definitely tell it was a RnB video from the characters
you used and the way they dressed ’ – Jahmai Samuels
The 10 people we spoke to all agreed that it was an RnB
music video and argued that from the typical stereotypes
and representations of established RnB video’s they have
previously seen that this fit the brief.
4) Do you think the music video/CD cover and
magazine advert work well together? If yes
please specify?
Yes
No
9/10 of the target audience that were
asked agreed that the music video, Digi-
Pack and Magazine advert worked
together.
This made sense because the images
where taken on location whilst recording
the video.
Although the audience recognised that
everything worked well together, they
also argued that it could have been done
better, which I agreed with also.
5) What score would you rate the
video from 1-5?

7
1 2 3 4 5
Score out of 5
Rating the video out of 5:
6 people rated it a 5/5.
6) What would you improve?
Throughout the duration of this course I have learnt a great deal. Although
the final video is now complete and up on youtube, if I could do it again there
are a lot of things that I now recognise from a third party influence (the
audience feedback) what would have made the music video better.
One of the things I would have defiantly changed would be the amount of
locations we had used. I think that If there was a various range of locations it
would allow the video to be more interesting instead of almost being
repetitive.
Also audience research suggested that if there was more of a narrative to the
video, where the video started off at an equilibrium (Todorv’s theory) it would
have been more dramatic and seen as a more typical RnB video.
Also the use of additional characters would have changed the scene a bit
more.
I would have added a range of different angles and shot types to keep the
viewers more entertained, because it is a slow song.
