Dilraj Singh conducted audience research through a questionnaire to understand what type of music sixth formers and staff enjoyed. The questionnaire found that most of the intended audience was between 16-18 years old and consisted of equal males and females. It also revealed that the audience prefers finding new music on social media and learning about artists this way. The responses helped the filmmaker understand that the audience would prefer a concept-based music video with a storyline and creative/unique elements that have a deeper meaning. This provided guidance on the type of narrative and style that would appeal most to the intended viewers.

The Roman Empire A Historical Colossus.pdfkaushalkr1407
The Roman Empire, a vast and enduring power, stands as one of history's most remarkable civilizations, leaving an indelible imprint on the world. It emerged from the Roman Republic, transitioning into an imperial powerhouse under the leadership of Augustus Caesar in 27 BCE. This transformation marked the beginning of an era defined by unprecedented territorial expansion, architectural marvels, and profound cultural influence.
The empire's roots lie in the city of Rome, founded, according to legend, by Romulus in 753 BCE. Over centuries, Rome evolved from a small settlement to a formidable republic, characterized by a complex political system with elected officials and checks on power. However, internal strife, class conflicts, and military ambitions paved the way for the end of the Republic. Julius Caesar’s dictatorship and subsequent assassination in 44 BCE created a power vacuum, leading to a civil war. Octavian, later Augustus, emerged victorious, heralding the Roman Empire’s birth.
Under Augustus, the empire experienced the Pax Romana, a 200-year period of relative peace and stability. Augustus reformed the military, established efficient administrative systems, and initiated grand construction projects. The empire's borders expanded, encompassing territories from Britain to Egypt and from Spain to the Euphrates. Roman legions, renowned for their discipline and engineering prowess, secured and maintained these vast territories, building roads, fortifications, and cities that facilitated control and integration.
The Roman Empire’s society was hierarchical, with a rigid class system. At the top were the patricians, wealthy elites who held significant political power. Below them were the plebeians, free citizens with limited political influence, and the vast numbers of slaves who formed the backbone of the economy. The family unit was central, governed by the paterfamilias, the male head who held absolute authority.
Culturally, the Romans were eclectic, absorbing and adapting elements from the civilizations they encountered, particularly the Greeks. Roman art, literature, and philosophy reflected this synthesis, creating a rich cultural tapestry. Latin, the Roman language, became the lingua franca of the Western world, influencing numerous modern languages.
Roman architecture and engineering achievements were monumental. They perfected the arch, vault, and dome, constructing enduring structures like the Colosseum, Pantheon, and aqueducts. These engineering marvels not only showcased Roman ingenuity but also served practical purposes, from public entertainment to water supply.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

2. Why are we doing audience research?
To gain some knowledge about what sort of people enjoy different
types of music we conducted a questionnaire in which we sent out to
the whole sixth form allowing us to get an understanding so that we
made a good music video.
We also done this so we could ask people if they like the direction we
were going in as we wasn’t quite sure that our idea fitted the R&B and
rap genre.
Releasing a questionnaire was a good way too see what our audience
most enjoyed about their favourite music videos so that we could
incorporate some of these ideas into our video and make people
happy.
3. Q1 – how old are you?
We sent this to all the sixth form and some
staff and in the end we found out that most of
our audience would be between the 16-18 age
range. Having options there was reliable as you
couldn’t just write any fake age you had to be
one off the ages we provide, this meant that
we know who will be watching our music video
and we can cater for this audience so that they
enjoy what we produce.
4. Q2 – are you male or female?
We asked this question second to gain a general
understanding of what sex what be more engaged
with our production. This result was surprising we
thought that we would have more of a male
audience as we thought R&B and rap would appeal
more to them. However from the result we got it
was 50/50 between males and females which made
us think that both sexes listen to this genre of music
as much as each other. This would good for us as we
intend on making a video for males and females.
5. Q3 – what's your favourite type of music
to listen to?
When we was looking at the feedback from
this question we was very surprised. Our
genre R&B had 11% of the votes as many
people chose other. We wasn’t quite sure why
this was as we thought that people our age
only liked the music genres we provided.
Looking back we probably should of provided
a text box where they could of wrote in their
preferred genre just to give us and idea.
6. Q4 – how do you access your music
videos?
We made a mistake when making this
question as most people probably use
the YouTube app on their phones. As you
can see from this the majority of people
chose YouTube and Phone which suggest
people are using their convergent
devices more and more to do everything
including listening and watching music.
7. Q5 – how do you hear about new music?
This question gave us the understanding
that most people find out about new
music on social media (one way we
want to promote our artist) this big
because social media is a massive
platform and looking at our results most
of our target audience are using it.
8. Q6 – what style of music do you prefer?
This question was very useful for us as it
told us that our audience would like a
concept based video the best. This is when
there is no linear narrative or performance
but a deeper meaning than at first. This
question allowed us to discuss what type
of music video we would like to do as
concept now entered the options.
9. Q7 – what do you like about music
videos in your favourite genre?
This was also another great response as we
plan on doing a very creative video which
is just what our audience liked to see
looking at our results. This would allow us
think outside the box when shooting our
video so that it is dynamic and unique so
that the viewer would very much be
satisfied.
10. Q8- what do you like about RnB music
videos?
We asked this question as it would give us the
option to include it in our own music video
which our audience would like to see. Looking
at our results it suggest that people like a
story line the best in RnB videos, this may be
because they enjoy getting to know a
character and how they develop through out
the video. Also people enjoyed the
performance side which was very encouraging
for us to hear.
11. Q9 – narrative too our chosen music
video?
We asked this question because we wanted
to gain some ideas on what idea people
would associate we our music videos. This
question gave us some good ideas which we
could incorporate in our video. We got
many suggestions which when we read
back we may put together and come up
with an excellent idea which our audience
would like as they help choose it.
12. Q10 – what do you think about our
concept narrative?
This was our last question, we chose this
because we wanted to see what people thought
of our idea as when they see the real thing they
could like it. We got a mixture of responses from
our audience as you can see, some people
thought it was a tad bit bland but other people
thought it was a good idea if we added another
element to it. This question was good as we got
detailed responses that would help us when
creating the video.
