This document proposes and evaluates methods for reducing the peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR) in orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) systems. It discusses how null subcarriers, which are unused carriers with zero transmit energy, can be shifted or switched among data subcarriers to generate candidate signals with lower PAPR values. The proposed null subcarrier shifting and two null subcarrier switching methods are shown to achieve around 1.4dB and 1.7dB lower PAPR respectively compared to existing techniques. Simulation results also indicate the bit error rate performance of the proposed null subcarrier shifting method is close to existing methods but with lower PAPR.
