Abstract : According to the request of advance communication field there should be high data rate in addition to both power efficiency and lower bit error rate. This request of high data rate can be achieved by the multi carrier modulation scheme using the OFDM technique. But the great drawback of the OFDM technique is its high peak to average power ratio (PAPR). High PAPR reduces OFDM signals by driving the analog amplifier to work in the nonlinear region, changing this way the signal and making the amplifier to consume more power. To reduce the PAPR methods exist which adjust or present new signals to battle large signal peaks. The methods which use data carrying channels are called active channel methods and which use redundant channel are called non active channel methods. This work deals with reduction of the PAPR of OFDM signal using both Active and Non Active Channels. Clipping technique has been applied to active channels and Tone reservation has been applied to Non Active Channels. By using both channels we can get considerable reduction in PAPR. Keywords:Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM), Peak to Average Power Ratio (PAPR), Power Amplifier (PA).
A modified design of acf operation for reducing papr of ofdm signalijngnjournal
Next generation wireless communication technology long term evolution (LTE) has implemented
orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) technique as a strong candidate for radio access
systems. It has several attributes such as providing robustness to multipath fading & impulse noise,
eliminating intersymbol interference (ISI), inter carrier interference (ICI) & the need for equalizers. The
major challenging issue of OFDM technique is the high peak to average power ratio (PAPR) which is
defined as the ratio of the peak power to the average power of the OFDM signal. A trade-off is
necessary for reducing PAPR with increasing bit error rate (BER), computational complexity or data rate
loss etc. In this paper, a moderately modified design of amplitude clipping & filtering operation (ACF) is
proposed and implemented which shows the significant improvement in case of PAPR reduction for both
quadrature phase shift keying (QPSK) & quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM) while increasing slight

The growth of wireless communication technologies has been producing the intense demand for high-speed,
efficient, reliable voice & data communication. As a result, third generation partnership project (3GPP)
has implemented next generation wireless communication technology long term evolution (LTE) which is
designed to increase the capacity and speed of existing mobile telephone & data networks. LTE has
adopted a multicarrier transmission technique known as orthogonal frequency division multiplexing
(OFDM). OFDM meets the LTE requirement for spectrum flexibility and enables cost-efficient solutions for
very wide carriers. One major generic problem of OFDM technique is high peak to average power ratio

This paper is concerned with the performance improvement of PAPR reduction of orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) signal using amplitude clipping & filtering based design. Note that OFDM is one of the well adept multi-carrier multiplexing transmission scheme which has been implemented in long term evolution (LTE) downlink. Nonetheless peak to average power ratio (PAPR) is the more rattling problem with OFDM, consequently in this paper a reduction procedure of the PAPR by using amplitude clipping and filtering is proposed. Here we used IIR bandpass elliptic filter after amplitude clipping to
reduce the PAPR. The performance of the system in terms of bit error rate (BER) is also canvased as a new
filter based clipping method. Our results show that the proposed methodology of clipping method with the
IIR elliptic band pass filter significantly reduces the PAPR value.

Performance Analsis of Clipping Technique for Papr Reduction of MB-OFDM UWB S...ijcisjournal
Multiband Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (MB-OFDM) is used as efficacious procedure for
ultra-wideband (UWB) wireless communication applications, which divides the spectrum into various subbands,
whose bandwidth is approximately 500MHz. Major arduousness in multiband-OFDM is ,it have
very large peak to average power ratio value which causes the signal to enter into dynamic region that
consequence in the loss of orthogonal properties and results in the interference of the carrier signals which
crops the amplifier saturation and finally limits the capacity of the system. Many PAPR amortize
algorithms have reported in the survey and pre-coding is PAPR reduction which is inserted after
modulation in the OFDM system. The Existing work presents the reduction of that value by different
clipping techniques namely Classical-Clipping (CC), Heavy side-Clipping (HC), Deep-Clipping (DC) and
Smooth-Clipping (SC) and their comparison analysis is done. Every clipping method is best at its own
level .The proficiency of these strategies are evaluated in locutions of average power disparity, complete
system decadence and PAPR reduction. Finally results show the MB OFDM yields better performance to
reduce PAPR in effective way.
PAPR Reduction in OFDM using New Hybrid Techniquesijtsrd
With the advancement in age and its growing demands, there has been fast production in the field of communication system. Signals, which were sent at the beginning in the analog form, are being sent more and more in the digital form now in these days. For improved transmission, even single carrier waves are being recouped by multi carriers' waves. Multi carrier systems like CDMA and OFDM are now a days being implemented commonly. In the OFDM system, orthogonally placed subcarriers are used to send the data from the transmitter end to the receiver end. Presence of guard band in this communication system deals with the ISI issues and noise is mitigated by larger number of sub carriers. But the large PAPR Peak to Average Power Ratio of these signals have some unsuitable effects on the communication system. In this research work we have focused on the OFDM System and have implemented various techniques to reduce the PAPR in the OFDM system so that this system can be used more commonly and energetically. Performance Analysis of OFDM in Combating Multipath FadingIOSR Journals
Mobile Communication system has been on high rampage for high data transmission over wireless
medium with various challenges caused by the transmission Channel. OFDM is been discovered in recent years
to deal with this problems because of its ability to elegantly cope with multipath interference. This paper
investigates the performance of different modulation schemes using M-ary Phase Shift Keying (M-PSK) and Mary
Quadrature Amplitude Modulation (M-QAM) in information transmission with OFDM technique over Ideal
channel AWGN and worst channel Rayleigh Fading channel in terms of Bits Error Rate (BER). Analysis was
made for different types of modulation schemes BPSK, QPSK, 4-QAM and 16-QAM gray coded bit mapping.
Also, a feasibility of OFDM been used to combat multipath fading was analyzed with comparison between a
single carrier technique and OFDM multicarrier technique. Variation between SNR results with respect to BER
is plotted to show the trade off differences between the modulation schemes with the result showing that OFDM
allows data transmission with minimal error over fading channel than a Single Carrier

Poly-aniline is one of the most important conducting polymers. The poly-aniline has many applications in the electronic fields such as batteries, sensors, controlling systems and organic displays. It is good environmental stability, easy conductivity control and cheap production in large quantities. In this study poly-aniline samples in nan-structure were irradiated with α- particles with different fluences (1.16 x 108- 1.20 x 109 alphas/ cm2) and constant energy (5.32±0.23 MeV). The damage is almost regular along the path length of alpha particles in poly-aniline samples. The modifications in the morphology and optical properties induced by the radiation were measured. It was found a strong correlation between absorbance and the alpha particle fluences at wavelength 600 nm for the samples after irradiations. Also, the results showed increase the number of carbon atoms per cluster in the poly-aniline samples after irradiations.

Five of the eight SSRs studied gave good electrophoretic profiles and helped us to amplify a number of alleles per locus varying from 3 (PSMPA5 and PSMPA6) to 13 (PSMPSAD126) with a total of 34 and an average number of 6.8 alleles per locus. The Polymorphism Information Content (PIC) varied from 0.18 for PSMPSAD134 to 0.85 for PSMPSAD126, with an average value of 0.62. The five microsatellites analyzed allowed us to separate 18 out of the 19 genotypes studied, and only the two most polymorphic markers (PSMPSAA205 and PSMPSAD126), permit to discriminate among the same genotypes (18) separated using the 5 SSRs. Genetic distances computed have been used to draw the corresponding dendrogram and to distribute genotypes according to their genetic relationship. The genotypes classified within the same group share several agro-morphological characters. Finally, the present study attests that SSR microsatellites are good tools for identifying genotypes and for the assessment of genetic diversity in pea.

The micellar catalyzed reaction between bis-4-chloro-3,5-dimethylphenylphosphate ester and hydroxide or hydroperoxide anions has been examined in buffered medium (pH 8-10). First order rate constant (Kψ) for the reaction of hydroxide ion with bis-4-CDMPP go through maxima with the increasing concentration of cetyltrimethylammoniumbromide (CTABr). Micelles of CTABr very effective catalyst to the reactions of phosphate diesters. Rate constants measured with OH2- ions are approximately twice and thrice than that of OH- ions in presence of CTABr.
Modeling and Analysis for Cutting Temperature in Turning of Aluminium 6063 Us...IOSR Journals
Deviation in machining process due to the temperature influence, cutting force, tool wear leads to
highly inferior quality of finished product, especially in high speed machining operations where product quality
and physical dimensions seems to be meticulous. Moreover, temperature is a significant noise parameter which
directly affects the cutting tool and work piece. Hence the aim of this project work is to study the machining
effect on 6063 Aluminium alloy at varies combinations of process parameters such as speed, feed rate and depth
of cut; and also to determine the effect of those parameters over the quality of finished product. A L27
Orthogonal Array (OA) based Design of Experiments (DOE) approach and Response Surface Methodology
(RSM) was used to analyse the machining effect on work material in this study. Using the practical data
obtained, a mathematical model was developed to predict the temperature influence and surface quality of
finished product. The ultimate goal of the study is to optimize the machining parameters for temperature
minimization in machining zone and improvement in surface finish.
Comparative Study and Analysis of Image Inpainting TechniquesIOSR Journals
Abstract: Image inpainting is a technique to fill missing region or reconstruct damage area from an image. It
removes an undesirable object from an image in visually plausible way.For filling the part of image, it use
information from the neighboring area. In this dissertation work, we present a Examplar based method for
filling in the missing information in an image, which takes structure synthesis and texture sysnthesis together.
In exemplar based approach it used local information from an image to patch propagation. We have also
implement Nonlocal Mean approach for exemplar based image inpainting. In Nonlocal mean approach it find
multiple samples of best exemplar patches for patch propagation and weight their contribution according to
their similarity to the neighborhood under evaluation. We have further extended this algorithm by considering
collaborative filtering method to synthesize and propagate with multiple samples of best exemplar patches. We
have to preformed experiment on many images and found that our algorithm successfully inpaint the target
region. We have tested the accuracy of our algorithm by finding parameter like PSNR and compared PSNR
value for all three different approaches.

Blow Mould Tool Design and Manufacturing Process for 1litre Pet BottleIOSR Journals
the concepts of Blow molding is a process used to produce hollow objects from thermoplastic. The
basic blow molding process has two fundamental phases. First, a parson (or a perform) of hot plastic resin in a
somewhat tubular shape is created. Second, compressed air is used to expand the hot perform and press it
against mould cavities. The pressure is held until the plastic cools. Blow molding process is used for which has
thin wall sections. In this thesis, blow mould design is to be done for a bottle having 0.5mm thickness. This
thickness cannot be filled in pressure injection molding. So blow molding is considered for pet bottle design.
The mould is prepared by first modeling the part, extracting core & cavity and generating CNC program. Blow
mould tool design is done in Pro/Engineer according to HASCO standards. A prototype of the pet bottle using
blow mould design is also included.

A Modified Design Of Acf Operation For Reducing Papr Of Ofdm Signaljosephjonse
Next generation wireless communication technology long term evolution (LTE) has implemented orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) technique as a strong candidate for radio access systems. It has several attributes such as providing robustness to multipath fading & impulse noise, eliminating intersymbol interference (ISI), inter carrier interference (ICI) & the need for equalizers. The major challenging issue of OFDM technique is the high peak to average power ratio (PAPR) which is defined as the ratio of the peak power to the average power of the OFDM signal. A trade-off is necessary for reducing PAPR with increasing bit error rate (BER), computational complexity or data rate loss etc. In this paper, a moderately modified design of amplitude clipping & filtering operation (ACF) is proposed and implemented which shows the significant improvement in case of PAPR reduction for both quadrature phase shift keying (QPSK) & quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM) while increasing slight BER match up to to an existing method.
Performance Evaluation of PAPR Reduction with SER and BER by Modified Clippin...ijcsse
This paper work focuses on performance analysis of PAPR reduction of orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) using amplitude clipping & filtering based design. Now a days one of the most proficient multi-carrier transmission techniques widely used today is orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) which has been implemented by the next generation wireless communication technology: Long Term Evolution (LTE). Extra robustness to multipath fading and impulse noise is provided OFDM. It eliminates inter symbol interference (ISI) & inter carrier interference (ICI) with certain procedure. Therefore peak to average power ratio (PAPR) is the basic problem with OFDM. However in this paper we proposed a reduction procedure of the PAPR by using clipping and filtering. Here we use a composed high pass , low pass & Chevyshev band pass filter II after amplitude clipping to reduce the PAPR. The performance of the system in terms of bit error rate (BER) and symbol error rate (SER) is also investigated as a new filter based clipping method is proposed. Our proposed clipping method with and composed high pass the Chevyshev bandpass filter II in PAPR performance of the system with a little compromise of BER & SER showing the significant improvement in Quadrature Amplitude Modulation (QAM).

Performance Analysis of OFDM in Combating Multipath FadingIOSR Journals
Abstract: Mobile Communication system has been on high rampage for high data transmission over wireless medium with various challenges caused by the transmission Channel. OFDM is been discovered in recent years to deal with this problems because of its ability to elegantly cope with multipath interference. This paper investigates the performance of different modulation schemes using M-ary Phase Shift Keying (M-PSK) and M-ary Quadrature Amplitude Modulation (M-QAM) in information transmission with OFDM technique over Ideal channel AWGN and worst channel Rayleigh Fading channel in terms of Bits Error Rate (BER). Analysis was made for different types of modulation schemes BPSK, QPSK, 4-QAM and 16-QAM gray coded bit mapping. Also, a feasibility of OFDM been used to combat multipath fading was analyzed with comparison between a single carrier technique and OFDM multicarrier technique. Variation between SNR results with respect to BER is plotted to show the trade off differences between the modulation schemes with the result showing that OFDM allows data transmission with minimal error over fading channel than a Single Carrier. Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing OFDM is an new method for fourth generation wireless communication. MIMO OFDM has become a promising candidate for high performance 4G and 5G broadband wireless communications. However, one main of MIMO OFDM is the high peak to average power ratio PAPR of the transmitter’s output signal on different antennas. Impact of Clipping and Filtering on Peak to Average Power Ratio of OFDM Systemijsrd.com
Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) is an emerging field of research in the field of 4G broadband wireless communications due to its robustness against multipath fading and relatively simple implementation. Peak to Average Power Ratio (PAPR) is the limiting factor for an OFDM system as it consists of large number of independent subcarriers as a result of which the amplitude of such a signal can have high peak values which degrades the system performance. Such a signal when amplified by a Power Amplifier without processing results spectral regrowth and intermodulation among subcarrier. Hence this non linearity destroys the orthogonally of the OFDM signal and introduces out-of-band radiation and in band distortions causing significant performance degradation. The clipping and filtering method is analysed which is an efficient and simple method to reduce the PAPR. We have shown the effects of clipping and filtering on the performance of OFDM, including the power spectral density, the crest factor, and the bit-error rate.

MIMO-OFDM is an attractive interface for the next generation WLANs, WMAN, 4G and 5G mobile cellular
systems. However the performance of the MIMO-OFDM systems is affected by Peak to Average Power Ratio
(PAPR). PAPR is the main disadvantage associated with the MIMO-OFDM systems. So far, many techniques
have been proposed to reduce the value of PAPR but high PAPR for MIMO-OFDM systems is still a demanding
area and a different issue. In this paper, a hybrid VLM precoded SLM scheme using Clipping & Filtering has
been proposed to reduce PAPR in MIMO-OFDM systems. And it has been observed that the proposed scheme
has achieved a significant gain in PAPR reduction without increasing the system complexity and affecting the
error performance of the system.
A low complexity partial transmit sequence scheme for better papr reduction i...eSAT Journals
Abstract The main drawback of OFDM system is the high Peak to Average Power Ratio (PAPR) of the transmitted signals. Partial transmit sequence scheme is a promising algorithm to reduce the peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR) in orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM). The Partial Transmit Sequence (PTS) consist of several inverse fast Fourier transform (IFFT) operations and complicated calculations to obtain optimum phase sequence which results in increasing the computational complexity of PTS. A phase sequence applied to the PTS Scheme reduces its complexity but at the expense of slight degradation in PAPR reduction. In this paper, for further reduction of PAPR the peak clipping of the OFDM signal is introduced along with the PTS with new phase sequence scheme. Since clipping is one of the simplest techniques of PAPR reduction, it does not increase the complexity of the system much and a better PAPR reduction is obtained with the combined effect of clipping and PTS with New Phase Sequence. But the clipping technique introduce some distortion in the signal, however peak clipping of signal below a particular threshold can maintain the BER in the tolerable range. The clipping threshold selected will be different for different OFDM systems. Index Terms: OFDM, Peak to Average Power Ratio (PAPR), Partial Transmit Sequence (PTS), Clipping.

Peak to Average Power Ratio (PAPR) Reduction in OFDM-OQAM Signalspaperpublications3
Abstract: The Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) is a type of modulation that is being used for many of the latest wireless, telecommunication and broadcasting standards. OFDM is considered to be complicated than other signals but also it possess high data rate transmissions with relatively wide bandwidths. The major disadvantage included in OFDM signal is Peak-to-Average Power Ratio (PAPR) in higher level and Sensitive to Carrier offset. Hence there were found to be many reduction techniques for PAPR have been proposed where in need to reduction in high PAPR and carrier sensitivity still more to make it efficient for future optical domain standards. This paper not only makes the OFDM system advantageous but also suitable for fast data transmission and reduces the complication at receiver side, because all the transmitting data are cleared out of signal noise, interferences, etc. The technique which is going to get implemented for PAPR reduction is Optimized Iterative Clipping and Filtering (OICF).The OFDM is provided with the subcarrier of N=256 and the modulation of Offset Quadrature Amplitude Modulation (OQAM). The OQAM-OFDM provides the higher spectral efficiency and also the inter-symbol interference is avoided since not using Cyclic Prefix (CP) in OQAM-OFDM signal. The main reason for reducing PAPR is that to avoid non- linearity at the receiving end in high speed wireless communication.

Bessel Companding Transform for reducing PAPR, OBI and BER in OFDM SystemsIOSR Journals
Abstract : Orthogonal Frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) is a very popular technique in wireless communications which provides excellent robustness to channel fading and immune to interference. OFDM is one of a popular modulation technique for transmitting large amounts of digital data over radio carriers. One of the major problems that had been observed in this is the Peak-To Average power Ratio (PAPR). PAPR is a distortion that had occurred due to large number of sub carriers that are used in OFDM for modulating the digital data. Many techniques were available to reduce the PAPR in OFDM systems, among them the companding technique can be used to enhance the OFDM transmission performance by decreasing the PAPR effectively and hence BER. Here we proposed “Bessel Companding Algorithm” to reduce this significant drawback in OFDM Systems. Keywords : Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM), peak to average power ratio (PAPR), bit error rate (BER), Out Band Interference (OBI), Additive White Gaussian Noise (AWGN), Bessel Companding Algorithm, Quadrature Amplitude Modulation (QAM) and Multi Carrier Modulation (MCM).
Analysis of Peak to Average Power Ratio Reduction Techniques in Sfbc Ofdm SystemIOSR Journals
Abstract: Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) has become the most popular modulation echnique for high speed data transmission. But the great disadvantage of the OFDM technique is its high Peak to Average Power Ratio (PAPR). In this paper, the Selected Mapping (SLM) technique and Clipping and Differential Scaling is applied to Space Frequency Block Coded (SFBC) OFDM systems to reduce the PAPR with Alamouti coding scheme. In SLM technique, different representations of OFDM symbols are generated by rotation of the original OFDM frame by different phase sequences, and the signal with minimum PAPR is selected and transmitted. To compensate for the effect of the phase rotation at the receiver, it is necessary to transmit the index of the selected phase sequence as side information (SI). Additionally, a suboptimum detection method that does not need SI is introduced at the receiver side. In Clipping and Differential Scaling technique, the amplitude of complex OFDM signal is clipped and then scaled in such a way so that the PAPR is reduced without causing much degradation in bit error rate (BER). The threshold values for clipping and scaling is determined using Monte Carlo Simulations. Simulation results show that the SLM method and Clipping and Scaling method effectively reduce the PAPR. Keywords: Orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM), peak to average power ratio (PAPR), selected mapping (SLM), space frequency block coded (SFBC), Side information (SI), high power amplifiers (HPA), complementary cumulative density function (CCDF), inter-symbol interference (ISI).

It is now-a-days very important for the people to send or receive articles like imported furniture, electronic items, gifts, business goods and the like. People depend vastly on different transport systems which mostly use the manual way of receiving and delivering the articles. There is no way to track the articles till they are received and there is no way to let the customer know what happened in transit, once he booked some articles. In such a situation, we need a system which completely computerizes the cargo activities including time to time tracking of the articles sent. This need is fulfilled by Courier Management System software which is online software for the cargo management people that enables them to receive the goods from a source and send them to a required destination and track their status from time to time.

Abstract : According to the request of advance communication field there should be high data rate in addition
to both power efficiency and lower bit error rate. This request of high data rate can be achieved by the multi
carrier modulation scheme using the OFDM technique. But the great drawback of the OFDM technique is its
high peak to average power ratio (PAPR). High PAPR reduces OFDM signals by driving the analog amplifier
to work in the nonlinear region, changing this way the signal and making the amplifier to consume more power.
To reduce the PAPR methods exist which adjust or present new signals to battle large signal peaks. The
methods which use data carrying channels are called active channel methods and which use redundant channel
are called non active channel methods. This work deals with reduction of the PAPR of OFDM signal using both
Active and Non Active Channels. Clipping technique has been applied to active channels and Tone reservation
has been applied to Non Active Channels. By using both channels we can get considerable reduction in PAPR.

I. INTRODUCTION
The necessity of high data rate services has been increasing very quickly and there is no delay in sight.
We know that the data transmission contains both wired and wireless medium. Often, these services need very
reliable data transmission over very merciless environment. Most of these transmission systems experience
much deficiency such as large attenuation, time variance, multipath, interference, noise, nonlinearities and must
meet the finite constraints like power limitation and cost factor. One physical layer technique that has got a lot
of reputations due to its roughness in dealing with these impairments is multicarrier modulation technique. In
multicarrier modulation, the most commonly used technique is Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing
(OFDM); it has in latest times become very popular in wireless communication.
Unfortunately the major drawback of OFDM transmission is its large envelope fluctuation which is
measured as Peak to Average Power Ratio (PAPR). Since power amplifier (PA) is used at the transmitter, so as
to operate in a perfectly linear region the operating power must lies lower the available power. For reduction of
this PAPR lot of techniques have been developed. All of the techniques have some sort of rewards and
drawbacks. Clipping and Filtering is one of the basic technique in which some part of transmitted signal suffers
into distortion. Also the Coding scheme reduces the data rate which is unwanted. If we consider Tone
Reservation (TR) technique it also allows the data rate loss with more probable of increasing power. Again the
techniques like Tone Injection (TI) and the Active Constellation Extension (ACE) having an attitude of
increasing power will be undesirable in case of power constraint environment. From the Partial Transmit
Sequence (PTS) and Selected Mapping (SLM) technique, the PTS technique has more difficulty than that of
SLM technique. But most of these methods are unable to achieve a large reduction in PAPR. So PAPR of
OFDM signal must be reduced enough to make proper working of the power amplifier.
II. INTRODUCTION OF OFDM
Multi-carrier modulation, in particular Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM), has
been successfully applied to a wide variety of digital communications applications over the past several years.
OFDM is frequently referred to as multi-carrier modulation because it transmits signals over multiple
subcarriers simultaneously, enabling it to boost WLAN data rates. It is based on the Fast Fourier transform
(FFT) concept, which allows the multiple subcarriers to overlap yet maintain their integrity. Because these
subcarriers are sent at lower data rates, OFDM systems perform robustly in severe multi-path environments. As
a result, this modulation approach is being widely adopted in WLAN implementations.
The use of Frequency Division Multiplexing (FDM) goes back over a century, where more than one
low rate signal, such as telegraph, was approved over a comparatively wide bandwidth channel using a split
carrier frequency for every signal. To make easy partition of the signals at the receiver, the Carrier frequencies

were spaced satisfactorily far apart so that the signal spectra did not extend beyond. Empty spectral regions
between the signals guaranteed that they could be alienated with readily possible filters. The resulting spectral
efficiency was therefore quite small.
Frequency division multiplexing (FDM) is a technology that transmits multiple signals concurrently
over a single transmission path, such as a cable or wireless system. Each signal travels within its possess
exclusive frequency range (carrier), which is modulated by the data. Accessible bandwidth is divided in multiple
subcarriers which are not overlapping. Orthogonal FDM's (OFDM) spread spectrum technique distributes the
data over a large number of carriers that are spaced apart at specific frequencies. This spacing provides the
"orthogonality" in this technique which prevents the demodulators from seeing frequencies other than their own.
The benefits of OFDM are high spectral efficiency, resiliency to RF interfering, and lower multipath distortion.
Fig 1: Conventional and Orthogonal multicarrier techniques
To generate the OFDM signal, first the high data rate signal is given to serial to parallel convertor.
Each signal is modulated individually by separate subcarrier and then given to IFFT block. The IFFT will
combine each separately modulated carrier and clear to serial form. This process will be repeated at the receiver
side to get the original signal back. Instead of carrying separate messages, the different frequency carriers can
carry different bits of a single higher rate message. The source may be in such a parallel format, or a serial
source can be presented to a serial-to-parallel converter whose output is fed to the multiple carriers.
Fig 2: OFDM Block Diagram
An OFDM symbol involves of N subcarriers by the frequency spacing of ∆f. Thus, the total bandwidth B will be
alienated into N equally spaced subcarriers. And all the subcarriers are orthogonal to each other within a time
interval of length T= . Each subcarrier can be modulated separately with the composite modulation symbol
Xm,n, where ‘m’ is a time index and ‘n’ is a subcarrier index. Then within the time interval T the subsequent
signal of the m-th OFDM block period can be described by equation (1) as:

Xm (t) -- (1)
Where, (t) is distinct through equation (2).
(t) = -- (2)
Where, (t) is a rectangular pulse practical to each subcarrier. The total continuous time signal X(t) consisting
of all the OFDM blocks is given by equation (3).
X (t) = -- (3)
Now, consider a single OFDM symbol (m=0) without loss of simplification. This can be shown because there is
no over lie between different OFDM symbols.
Since m=0, Xm,n can be replaced by Xn. Then, the OFDM signal can be described as follows.
X (t) = -- (4)
If the bandwidth of the OFDM signal is B = N × ∆f and the signal X (t) is sampled by the sampling time of ∆t=
= , then the OFDM signal is in discrete time form and can be written as shown in equation (5).
Xk = , k=0,1,…,N-1 -- (5)
where, ‘n’ denotes the index in frequency domain and Xn is the complex symbol in frequency domain. In
addition, equation (5) can be expressed using the IFFT.
III. INTRODUCTION OF PAPR
When in time domains all the N subcarriers are added up usefully, they construct a peak power that is
N times greater than the average power of the signal. The PAPR is calculated by the following equation
PAPR = -- (6)
Where x(t) is the amplitude of the signal.
The peak power of the OFDM signal, regarding the worst case when all the subcarriers are added-up
constructively, is the sum of all the N subcarriers: 1 N = N. The mean power of the OFDM signal is the sum of
all the values of the signal, which is actually N, divided by the total number of subcarriers, which is also N.
Therefore the highest PAPR is:
= = N -- (7)
This highest PAPR increases whenever the number of subcarriers increases. Thus, if N→∞=>Xk becomes
Gaussian disseminated, for k = 1,…,N, which means that
P -- (8)
When the number of subcarriers tends to this probability gives
-- (9)
If the above statement represents the probability of a signal xk to have a smaller PAPR than the given one
PAPRm, the likelihood of the signal to have a PAPR greater than PAPRm is
-- (10)
Top of statement can be improved understood graphically in Figure 3, which shows the complementary
cumulative distribution function (CCDF) of an OFDM signal. The CCDF denotes the probability of a signal to
have a higher PAPR than a threshold PAPR, so in the figure, straight and straight up axes represent the threshold
values of PAPR and the CCDF in that order. The CCDF simulation compares the CCDF of signals with
dissimilar number of subcarriers (from 128 to 1024) and it corroborates the hypothesis. For all the unlike signals
of the simulation, the probability of having higher PAPR than a fixed PAPR decreases as this fixed value

increases. However, this probability increases as the number of subcarriers increases, and if N keeps mounting
the probability tends to be 1 for several PAPRm so the PAPR of the signal when N→ ∞ will always be greater
than PAPRm. The probability of having a peak higher than PAPRm, though, decreases as N increases since the
more subcarriers there are, the fewer probable it is that all they total carefully at the same moment, but still it
may happen.
Fig 3: CCDF for different number of subcarriers
For different number of subcarriers the CDF is plotted in Figure 3, which has used QPSK modulation. It can be
simply shown that higher number of carriers will be resulted into higher PAPR. OFDM has several properties,
which make it a striking modulation scheme for high speed transmission links. However, one major difficulty is
its large Peak to Average Power Ratio (PAPR). These large peaks cause saturation in power amplifiers, leading
to inter modulation products among the subcarriers and troubling out of band energy. Therefore, it is desirable to
reduce the PAPR. To reduce the PAPR, several techniques have been proposed such as clipping, coding, peak
windowing, Tone Reservation and Tone Injection. But, most of these methods are unable to achieve
concurrently a large reduction in PAPR with low complexity, with low coding overhead, without performance
degradation and without transmitter receiver symbol handshake. The complex envelope of the OFDM signal,
consisting of N carriers is given by,
= -- (11)
Where g(t) is rectangular pulse of duration T and T is OFDM symbol duration. Peak to Average Power Ratio is
defined by,
-- (12)
From the central limit theorem, for large values of N, the real and imaginary values of S(t) become Gaussian
distributed. The amplitude of the OFDM signal there for has a Rayleigh distribution with zero mean and a
variance of N times the variance of one complex sinusoid.
From this, it is seen that large PAPR occurs only infrequently.
Peak to Average power Ratio effect is described by Peak Envelop and Crest-Factor (CF) which is defined as the
square root of Peak to Average Power Ratio. Here, we will refer it as Peak to Average power Ratio (PAPR).
IV. PAPR REDUCTION METHODS
There have been many new approaches developed during the last few years. Several PAPR reduction
techniques have been proposed in the literature. These techniques are divided into two groups.
Active channels methods
The data carrying channels will be affected here. So BER can be affected. But data throughput will be
maximum.
Non Active channel methods
Here, the channels which are not carrying data will be used. So, data throughput will be decreased. But BER
will not be affected.

Clipping Technique
One of the simplest ways to reduce the PAPR is to clip the high amplitude peaks. This is a simplest
technique used for PAPR reduction. Clipping means the amplitude clipping which restricts the peak envelope of
the input signal to a preapproved value. Several clipping techniques have been described in the literatures. Some
clip the signal at the output of the inverse discrete Furrier transform (IDFT). But consequent interpolation cause
re-growth of the signal peaks. Other clipping techniques clip the signal after interpolation and use a filter to
reduce the resulting out-of-band power. However the filters, which have been projected, are complicated and
computationally classy. In addition they cause peak re-growth and result in significant distortion of the required
signal. Clipping and filtering cause spectral splattering and initiate additional noise to the signal. The poverty of
performance of this additional noise can be compensated by a smaller A/D-/D/A quantization noise due to a
reduction of dynamical series by clipping.
Let X[n] denote the pass band signal and Xc[n] denote the clipped version of X[n], which can be expressed as
-- (13)
Where A is the pre-specified clipping level. However this technique has the following drawbacks:
Clipping causes in-band signal distortion, resulting in Bit Error Rate performance degradation.
It also causes out-of-band radiation, which imposes out-of-band interference signals to adjacent
channels. This out-of-band radiation can be reduced by filtering.
This filtering of the clipped signal leads to the peak re-growth. That means the signal after filtering
operation may exceed the clipping level specified for the clipping operation.
Tone Reservation Technique
Common to all, OFDM systems has a large peak-to-average-power ratio (PAPR), which can lead to
low power efficiency and nonlinear distortion at the transmit power amplifier. Tone reservation uses other
vacant or kept tones to design a peak cancelling signal that lowers the PAPR of a transmit OFDM block. In
contrast to previous methods, the new active-set method proposed here converges very quickly toward a
minimum-PAPR solution at a lower computational cost. A well-organized real baseband algorithm is well-
suited for discrete multitone modulation (DMT) over twisted-pair copper wiring, where some sub-channels may
have an inadequate SNR to reliably send data. The real PAPR problem occurs in the analog signal before the
power amplifier, and results focus on this figure of merit. The performance of oversampling before applying
PAPR reduction is analyzed, and results show that this is necessary to sufficiently handle the analog PAPR
problem. An extension of the real-baseband technique can be applied to complex-baseband signals to help
reduce PAPR in wireless and broadcast systems. By sacrificing 11 out of 256 OFDM tones (4.3 %) for tone
reservation, over 3 dB of analog PAPR reduction can be obtained for a wireless system.
Fig 4: PAPR plot comparison of Original, Clipped and Clipped with TR
Figure 4 shows PAPR in dB for each symbol. It is obvious that clipping will reduce the PAPR for each symbol
especially for the symbols having higher PAPR values. To reduce the PAPR further Non active channels will be

used. With help of Tone reservation method (Non Active channel method) PAPR will be reduced further.
PAPR is within 4 dB to 10 dB for original signal. It is within 4dB to 8.5 dB using clipping method. And it is
within 4dB to 8dB for proposed method.
V. CONCLUSION
In the last years wireless communications have experienced a fast growth due to the high mobility that
they allow. However, wireless channels have some disadvantages, like multipath fading, that make them
difficult to deal with. A modulation that powerfully deals with selective fading channels is OFDM. But it has
also disadvantages, like a high PAPR, that make it not so simple to implement.
Research is being done in order to reduce the effects of high PAPR in OFDM systems. Many
techniques and algorithm are available to reduce the PAPR. These methods can be classified in Active channel
methods and Non Active Channel methods. Tone reservation method for non-active channel is selected and
Clipping for active channels is selected.
PAPR has been reduced up to 2 dB by applying both Clipping (active channel) and Tone reservation
(non-active channel). Complexity will be increased here to combine both techniques. But significant reduction
in PAPR has been achieved. Clipping will cause out of band distortion which can be reduced with filtering.
The high PAPR of OFDM systems causes the amplifier to work in the saturation region, making it to
consume more power, but by proposed technique the high peaks are reduced. In this way the saturation region is
avoided and power consumption is also reduced. More active channel methods can be combined with non-active
channel methods for future expansion.
