Elements of a Mission Statement • Purpose • Capability • Inspirational • Clarity • Legacy • Focuses Business (Staff) • SWOT • Brand Development • Examples: – Tesla - “To accelerate the world’s transition to sustainable energy.” – LinkedIn - “To connect the world’s professionals to make them more productive and successful.” – Patagonia - “Build the best product, cause no unnecessary harm, use business to inspire and implement solutions to the environmental crisis.”
  • 8. Purpose Statement • A purpose statement is a declarative sentence which summarizes the specific topic and goals of a document. It is typically included in the introduction to give the reader an accurate, concrete understanding what the document will cover and what he/she can gain from reading it. • Research Papers • Personal • Business • Philosophical Heartbeat (HBR)
  • 9. Vision Statement • A vision statement says what the organization wishes to be like in some years’ time. – Prime Driver (Ericsson) – Two Sentences – Strategic Framework
  • 10. Exercise (Breakout Rooms by Group) • 10 Minutes to for the group to work on: – Mission Statement – Purpose Statement – Vision Statement • Group chooses which one they want to complete
  • 11. Build Leaders Around You • HOW DO YOU LEAD? – Keep promises, period. Never make promises you're not sure you can keep – Dress to influence – Treat your team as you expect them to treat customers – Show your commitment to personal growth – Ask, rather than wait for feedback
  • 12. Conflict Management • The goal of conflict resolution is not to decide which person is right or wrong • The goal is to reach a solution that everyone can work or live with • It’s not about your win, its about THE TEAM’s WIN

Conflict Management • Steps • ACKNOWLEDGE that a difficult situation exists and state the problem/scenario of conflict or tension • SEPARATE the people from the problem • GET CURIOUS about feelings and needs – what’s behind the strategy or position the person has • Express COMMON GROUND • Express your INTENTION
