The Mamluk Military, Ottoman Military And Gunpowder Weapons
Mamluk military, Ottoman military, and firearms Military, the Mamluks were a professional force
recruited as young Turkish, then increasingly as Circassian slaves who endured rigorous training
and were disinclined to adopt firearms. The Mamluk s disinclination appears partly motivated by
prior success, as the Mamluks were able to effectively use heavy cavalrywith horse archer
capabilities to successfully defeat the Crusader armies and vanquish the Mongols at the Battle of
Ain Jalut. The Mamluks were also opposed to firearms from a cultural standpoint, viewing them as
un masculine, refusing to train with them, and believing their martial qualities and dedication,
honed through years of training, could overcome any technological advances. Mamluk military
manuals like an 16th century publication titled Arab Archery reiterate the Mamluks were dedicated
to the concept of holy war and invested heavily in the use of cavalry tactics and the compound bow,
tactics which required years of rigorous training to master and as alluded to previously, secured the
Mamluks multiple military successes since the founding of the Sultanate. Granted, more practical
concerns may have influenced the Mamluks disinclination to adopt gunpowder weapons. The
Mamluks, heavily invested in cavalry tactics, would have found limited use for firearms as wheel
lock firearms which could be utilized by cavalry first appeared in 1520 and did not reach the
Ottomans until 1543. Simultaneously, the Mamluks

Identifying Lyme Disease
Lyme disease can sometimes be difficult to diagnose as standard blood tests may give a false
negative result. The bloodwork used to diagnose Lyme disease relies on the antibodies that the
body makes in response to infection with Borrelia. It often takes a few weeks for a person s body
to generate enough antibodies to show up on a bloodtest, however, time is crucial in the treatment
in the treatment of Lyme disease. Additionally, many symptoms of Lyme disease coincide with
those of other issues and it may be difficult to differentiate between possible diseases and
conditions. Thankfully, there is a better two step method to identify Lyme disease. The first test
is called an enzyme linked immunosorbent assay or ELISA, which is a sensitive test that
examines antibodies in the body, but not specifically those related to Borrelia. If the results are
positive or inconclusive, continue on to the second test. The second test is the Western Blot,
which is a specific test that is used after positive or inconclusive results from ELISA. A positive
WB test after a positive or inconclusive ELISA test result in a diagnosis of Lyme disease. A
negative in either test results in a negative diagnosis.3
Prevention/Treatment
There are many ways to prevent Lyme disease. To begin with it is important to know how ticks get
onto your skin. Ticks ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The typical method of treatment for Lyme disease is a 14 to 21 day course of oral antibiotics
such as doxycycline, amoxicillin, or cefuroxime axetil. If the disease involves the nervous system
that patients will likely have the antibiotics administered intravenously. Most cases of Lyme
disease clear up after an antibiotic course; however, symptoms can last for longer than six months.
If this happens, it is considered Post Treatment Lyme Disease Syndrome (PTLDS). The exact cause
of PTLDS is unclear but scientists believe that is related to tissue and nervous system

Highly Acrobatic Gatsby Erotics
Highly Acrobatic Gatsby Erotica
The public view on fanfiction tends to focus more on the unorthodox: erotic Gatsby fic, the
hypothetical romantic relationship of Kirk and Spock, or the media hurricane that was E.L. James
s Fifty Shades of Grey. Fanfiction is treated as a recent phenomenon despite being around since the
existence of the written language; many classic, derivative works could be considered fanfiction
of open source content. While big media sources such as CNN, Yahoo, or Fox discuss it in terms
of copyright, deviance, and money, independent news sources, blogs, and discussion panels prefer a
more holistic view, focusing on fanfiction as a reaction to not only existing content, but to societal
problems. With fanfic gaining ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
From a young age, girls are put under pressure to be sexually appealing for those around her. But
women, being people who still have biological needs and desires to be fulfilled, have rarely been
offered a direct but safe pathway into sexual self discovery other than through experience, which
carries the risks of sexual assault, unwanted pregnancy, and STI acquisition. Men have an entire
industry dedicated to fulfilling their sexual desires the porn industry s treatment of women is
nothing to bat an eye at. Off screen, girls grow up being treated as sexual objects from a young
age, surrounded by sexy women in advertising, movies, and TV. Having to deal with others
schoolgirl fantasies and the idea of being jailbait make it hard for a woman at the apex of
puberty to safely explore her developing sexuality. Girls also grow up with a ridiculous double
standard telling them to avoid being sexy while avoiding prudishness: to dress conservatively if
they don t want to get assaulted, but to show some skin because nobody likes a bore. Speaking
from experience, it gets tiring being told to be two things at once in order to please somebody
else, and media has a powerful effect on how women see themselves, as stated by Katie Barnes in
her piece, On The Importance Of Media Representation

Drug Trafficking In Mexico
Drug trafficking, as an actual problemГЎtic around the world, has been a problem since long time
ago, and Mexico has come into notice around the world for this matter. Since approximately the
19th century, the world has been worried because of illegal drug trafficking, but in the beginning,
drugs were not illegal and widely used throughout the world as they are today. Laws that banned
the commercialization use of drugs were approved less than 80 years ago in the mayor part of the
worldВґs countries, In the early 1900 s, drugs were not considered a serious issue, because the
government believed the abuse would not stop if citizens could not get drugs after they were

out of business by arresting key figures have led not to the demise of the drug trade, but to bloody
deaths of both guilty and innocent people, so we come to question the usefulness of this

Essay On The Perfect Match
The Perfect Match by Ken Liu begins with Sai, the protagonist, waking up to Il Sospetto. The
song was played at the exact right time to wake him up making him feel ready for the day. Tilly
had chosen the song and when to play it. As the morning progresses and Sai goes into the
shower, Tilly begins speaking about a perfect match that she has found for him. It is a girl that
Tilly knows Sai will like. Sai trusts Tilly with everything, even picking the correct beverage to
have for breakfast. As Sai is leaving his apartment to head to work, we are introduced to another
main character, Jenny. She is dressed in a thick winter coat, ski goggles, and a long, dark scarf
that covered her hair and the rest of her face (Liu). Sai describes Jenny... Show more content on

Tilly, taking her out of his ear. He also asks Ellen to take hers off, however she grew very frustrated
with Sai s request and asked for the date to be over immediately. This only fueled Sai s rebellious
attitude toward Tilly.
On Sai s return home, Tilly makes an effort to relieve Sai of his anger. In return, Sai turns off his
phone. Tilly could no longer input into Sai s life, she was gone. Once Sai got home he
immediately visited Jenny looking for answers. Jenny was pleased to see him and debriefed him
on everything Tilly does. From taking down foreign governments to negatively optimizing
searches, Tilly and Centillion control the material that should and should not be seen. Due to
what Jenny has now told him, and the proof she has provided, Sai has become invested in taking
down Centillion. Once Jenny and Sai call it a night, they both go to sleep. Then Miles Davis

Benedict Arnold in the Revolutionary War Essay
Battle of Ticonderoga Prior to the war Arnold became a captain in the Governor s Second
Company of Guards. Eager for action, Arnold and his men marched off to Cambridge and asked for
the commission of the Massachusetts committee of safety to capture Fort Ticonderoga. Along the
way Arnold s group met up with Ethan Allen and his Green Mountain Boys. Despite their
differences the groups successfully captured the fort on May 10th by surprising the British
Garrison. As the Green Mountain Boys raided the rum stores Arnold was in an argument about
credit in capture of the fort. Arnold lost the argument and he received very little credit in the report
to Congress. Arnold was about to proceed with his own plans until the Massachusetts Committee...

area they were forced to surrender. Arnold refused to surrender by saying that they would not leave
unless they were successful then he started bellowing orders from his sickbed. Arnold also
requested for reinforcements that he received in small amounts. In the end the battle was a bust but

Public Communication And Public Relations
Press agentry, public information, two way asymmetric public relations, and two way symmetric
public relations are four models of public relations theory devised by Grunig and Hunt (1983). In
this essay, the author goes on to identify an example each from current public relations business
practices that goes on to show the four public relation models in action. Further stress is provided
to ensure that the examples have all been taken place within last twelve months in the Australian
media and justification of selection is to be done by comparing it with real world examples that are
chosen.
Grunig, Sriramesh Lyra (2009) explains press agentry model of public relations as the most
commonly used and earliest form of public relations, in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another one way model of PR is the public information model. Grunig and Hunt (1983) stresses
that the public information model is all about having the appearance of journalism to increase
credibility and authority of the message. and it has been found to be used mainly by government
agencies, law enforcement agencies and military units all around the world (Simpson,2015).
This model does not place stress on gathering feedbacks. Non government organisations
campaign against the permission given for Adani Coal mines in Queensland is a typical
example of using the power of journalism and press releases to influence public opinion. Press
releases and articles done by Sydney Morning Herald YourVote: Great Barrier Reef should be
prioritised over coal mining, survey shows by Hasham (2016) and Environmental groups slam
Adani approvals as resources sector celebrates by Atfield (2016) are classic examples of how PR
can be used to influence people by providing it an appearance of journalism. PR strategists for the
Greenpeace Australia and other environmental groups have successfully been able to influence
targeted public with press releases. This public information model used to block Adani Coals from
starting mines in QLD, is a perfect example as Grunig, Sriramesh Lyra (2009) notes the major
characterizers of public information model as being one sided communication where the strategists

It shows that someone is almost never truly alone, yet cannot escape loneliness. This concept

Pink Ribbon Clogs
Breast Cancer Action (BCA) coined the term pink washing as part of their Think Before You
PinkВ® campaign. According to BCA a pink washer is a company or organization that claims to
care about breast cancer by promoting a pink ribbon product, but at the same time produces,
manufactures and/or sells products that are linked to the disease.
These companies all give themselves a pat on the back for spreading awareness, but all the while
they are really just profiting off of breast cancer.
Example one: In 2010, Dansko Shoe Company sold pink ribbon clogs. Consumers likely thought
that a portion of their purchase of pink ribbon clogs went to a breast cancer program. However,
purchase of the pink ribbon clogs was not connected to Dansko s donation none of the portion of
the sales went toward their already set donation of $25,000 to Susan G. Komen for the Cure. No
matter whether or not you bought the clogs, their donation was the same.
Example two: In 2010, Reebok marketed a line of pink ribbon emblazoned footwear and apparel
at prices ranging from$50 to $100. Though it heavily promoted the fact that some of their pink
ribbon product sales would be donated to the Avon Breast Cancer Crusade, they set a limit of
$750,000, regardless of how many items were sold, and there was no mechanism in place to alert
consumers once the maximum donation had been met. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I believe everyone at a time in life want to reach out and help give back to the community and
really make a positive impact. Raising awareness for a new and unknown disease would help the

When cancer was first discovered raising awareness was the best way to inform people about it
and the dangers it entails. Companies first started to use the pink ribbon which represents breast
cancer awareness on their merchandise, to help raise awareness and in hopes of making money for
the breast cancer movement. When a company says they are donating a portion of the money to

Similarities And Differences In Flowers For Algernon

masterpieces have similarities as well as differences. Flowers For Algernonand Charley have the

Slavery, Slavery And End The Most Brutal Piece Of American...
Slavery began in the United States as soon as the first Europeans stepped foot on the land. Many
people had numerous hardships and losses because of this brutal part of American history. These
slaves would lose every aspect of their lives including their spouses, children, and religion, and the
only thing they gained was the scars on their backs from the beatings their owners brought upon
them. Slaverylasted for over a century in the United States, and it was not until Thomas Jefferson s

However, they did have black slaves, especially in Maryland, Missouri, Kentucky, and Delaware.
Even the states that everyone knows to be against slavery quietly took part in it in their northern
factories.
The south is the slavery that everyone knows of with slaves from Africa who are born into their
lives of torture. These slaves worked on the plantations and were never able to gain freedom from
their lives as slaves. They worked in treacherous working conditions and masters owned them.
Their masters could sell them whenever they wanted to and whipped them constantly, sometimes
for no reason. Families split up, religion was lost, and scars spread across the slaves backs from
the harsh whips. Thomas Jefferson wanted to put an end to this form of slavery, so he proposed a
document that would do so.
The first sign of free lives in the United States began in the 1787 with the Northwest Ordinance.
Thomas Jefferson proposed the document that stated that any state northwest of the Ohio River
would be equal to the original thirteen states and would not permit slavery ( Primary Documents,
2015a). This document also allowed settlers to expand their territories and make profits to help
with national debt. The northerners were happy with this new Ordinance because they would not
have to compete with slave labor while the southerners were happy because it would lead to slave

created equal and should be treated the same. While Lee tries to make a point being racist or
treating colored differently, Atticus says I am confident that you gentlemen will review without
passion the evidence you have heard (p.274). When Lee gives this evidence, it shows importance
on how all men are created equally, and should be treated equally. Atticus shows honesty by telling
the truth and portrays an image of how the other men are being racist and how they should treat
Tom like any other man. Lee uses honesty and explains how everyone should be treated the same.

Rory Deveaux s The Name Of The Star
The Name of the Star
The Name of the Star follows Rory Deveaux, an American teenager from Louisiana as she
attends her senior year at a London boarding school. Her arrival in England coincides with the
outset of a series of gruesome murders by what seems to be a Jack the Ripper copycat. As the
bodies pile up, Rippermania spreads throughout England and Rory gets stuck in the middle of it
all when she becomes a witness after seeing a mysterious man on school grounds. A man no one
else has seen and who becomes the prime suspect of the crimes. As the plot and mystery unfolds,
Rory finds herself in great danger and part of a group of people that are, apparently, the secret
ghost police of London.

Descriptive Essay On The Desert
The hot, arid air burned into my soul as I faced the barren desert surrounding me. My family and
I were on a long awaited vacation to the Grand Canyon, yet we had to drive over 15 hours I
radiated impatience throughout the journey. Walls of heat shrouded me as I gasped for air my
efforts were fruitless, however, swallowing nothing but fire. As the fire in my lungs grew, I
looked out the window and into the looming suns heart. Suddenly, my eyes collapsed and tears
engulfed them till they took their true form; a forest blanketed with soft, gleaming snow.
However, I was evoked from my reverie by a vehement cry and I was staring into the eyes of
tattered vultures, of every discrepancy, who recited a prophecy only I could hear. Who dares
enter our land! they screeched in a dissonant manner. Trembling, I gazed at the sun and was
standing amidst a perpetual desert the vultures eyes glued to me. I froze with fear, though the
sun baked my skin. A meal for today, the vultures rasped flamboyantly, cooked to a crisp! Uh, I
sighed, I couldn t wait 10 minutes to save me from you repulsive demons! I woke up like a
corpse rises from the grave, my red eyes flooded with tears. The cool air lulled my throat;
dissipating the faint memory of a raging fire and loathsome vultures scavenging my flesh. As the
tears coated my face, I sat up until a symphony of cracks sang from my spine. Despite the
agonizing pain, I turned around and the world revealed itself as a contemporary

Travelling In Vacations Essay
Travelling in Vacations In 2012 more than one thousand billion of people travelled around the

the luggage. As people have to pack their cloths, they should always take casual cloths because they
are suitable for travelling. Then people have to bring their toiletries such as toothbrush, toothpaste,
small bottle of shampoo, small bottle of shower gel, and Deodorizer. Also, it is important to have a
small medical kit because it will be useful in many situations, and it contains hand sanitizer, eye

Arab Nationalism and Syria Essay
Description of Country Syria is a country located in the Middle East, bordering the Mediterranean

this to distinguish it from the nation state with the same name today), located at the crossroads of
three continents, possesses a long and abounding history. It was an arena of conflict for centuries,

====================================================================
We have looked at two different short stories by two different authors. The first story is called The
Tell Tale Heartby Edgar
Allan Poe and the second is called A Confession found in a prison in the time of Charles II by
Charles Dickens. I have found out that that they both have a murder theme in common. There are
also other similar themes between the two poems such as early confessions.

The boy could also be a problem in the future. We know quite quickly that all is not well for both
narrators because they both hint of the outcome, and confess early. In A confession found in a
prison in the time of Charles II the narrator says I will set down the naked truth without disguise
showing that he will reveal the whole story. He also says My name is written in the black book of
death, which shows that he is line for execution for something that he has done wrong. The same
sort of theme applies for The Tell Tale
Heart when the narrator quotes How calmly I can tell you the whole story. This shows that
something is going to be confessed in the near future. Both authors use short sentences at the
beginnings of their stories.
They use this writing technique to build tension. This is shown better in the The Tell Tale Heart,
line 15 where he starts of the paragraph with three sentences in the first line. Now this is the point.
You fancy me mad. Madmen know nothing.
In The Tell Tale Heart, the only relationship is between the old man and the narrator. They seemed
to be good friends at the beginning of the story, as the narrator claims to Love the old man. He had

the narrator against him. This shows that the

Essay on Two Methods of Defending the Trinity
Two Methods of Defending the Trinity
Christians believe in one God, yet the apparent contradictory nature of the Trinity is such that it has
caused many to doubt whether Christianity is indeed monotheistic. This has consequently caused
Christians to defend their monotheism in relation to the Trinity. In the two such defensesthat are
studied in this essay, we find that Christians have explained the nature of Trinity with varying
degrees of effectiveness and success. Timothy the Patriarch defends the Trinity before the Caliph
Madhi with few compelling arguments, and Gregory of Nyssa explains it in a more abstract and
therefore more effective way. Each however defends the Trinity according to his understanding of it.

Timothy offers several apt analogies comparing the Trinity to earthly things, yet he fails to offer a
compelling argument to refute the Caliph s simple yet powerful statement: If He is one, He is not
three; and if He is three he is not one; what is this contradiction? (69).
The most obvious of Timothy s logical errors is that he assumes (naturally) that the Son of the
Trinity is in fact the Christ or Messiah of the Hebrew Scripture. He therefore refers to Hebrew
Scripture to show that the Son is equal and not subservient to the Father: God, therefore, called
Christ a Lord through the prophet David, and since no true lord is a servant, it follows that
Christ is not a servant (82). The flaw in this logic, or at least the reason for its failure to convince
the Caliph, lies in the fact that the Caliph cannot believe that Jesus is the Christ. The logic is also
flawed from a modern point of view, for there the writers of the Hebrew Scripture knew neither
Jesus nor the concept of the Trinity. It would therefore be anachronistic to use such references or to
claim for example that the We of the creation story in Genesis refers to the Christian Trinity.
Timothy makes similar mistakes in reference to the Koran and the Gospels. He says, It is also

Whether or not the public stands and cheers or sulks and cries is entirely dependent on the

remain ignorant about many scientific advances that have paved the path for potential scientific

According to Wikipedia.org, amniotic stem cells are multipotent cells that are able to differentiate
into various tissues and are useful for future human applications. In other words, these stem cells
float around in the protective amniotic sack surrounding the embryo and can be extracted safely
through amniocentesis without any harm to the embryo and then manipulated to form various
types of cells. As described by the articles, amniotic stem cells have a variety of advantages and in
perception, are a solution to several ethical issues that have evolved because of furthering research
in stem cells. The articles both highlight the use of amniotic fluid stem cells as tools to study
human genetic diseases by tissue treatment and analysis of cell cultures. The articles also address
the critical argument surrounding stem cell research: the ethical and moral nature of disrupting fetal
development by extracting the embryonic stem cells and thus terminating the embryo. Amniotic

Existential Anxiety Via Self Preservation Essay
Ashley Martinez Professor Steven Adisasmito Smith Modern World Literature 12 December 2016
Existential Anxiety via Self Preservation To a man utterly without a sense of belonging, mere life is
all that matters. It is the only reality in an eternity of nothingness, and he clings to it with shameless
despair. ― Eric Hoffer In its most basic definition, an existential crisis occurs when a person
feels out of touch with their place in the world. They question why they are here as well as what
determines their leaving. In Leo Tolstoy s Hadji Murat and Wole Soyinka s Death and the King
s Horseman, two characters experience a similar reaction after failing to conform to societal
expectations. For example, in Hadji Murat, the titular character s shifting allegiance depends on
whatever is in the best interest of his family. He initially rejects his community leader s request
for him to join the ghazavat or holy war against the Russians (Tolstoy 335 464). After this
refusal, Hadji Murat pledges his allegiance to the latter whether he can actually be trusted or not
is an entirely differently matter (Tolstoy 335 464). In Wole Soyinka s Death and the King s
Horseman, we have Elesin Oba, a character who fails to follow his king in death because he still
wishes to remain in the realm of the living (1049 1078). However, based on existential theory, their
existential crises manifest themselves in four different ways. That being said, a closer

When I look at the young boy s face there is an emotion this boy captures, it gives me the very
same feeling I had when I was growing up. It was the feeling of having a hero in life, a role model

The Six Primary Processes Of The Digestive System
The digestive system is an organ system which consists of a group of organs working together to
convert food into energy and nutrients which helps to maintain the body. The organs that make up
the digestive system include the pancreas and salivary glands, small intestine, liver, stomach and
large intestines.
The function of the digestive system is to digest and absorb. Digestion is the breakdown of food
into smaller molecules which are them later absorbed in the body. The digestive system is divided
into two major parts: the digestive tract and the accessory organs. Inside the mouth there are
accessory organs which help with the digestion of food such as the teeth, tongue and salivary

Symbolism in The Chrysanthemums by John Steinbeck
At first glance John Steinbeck s The Chrysanthemums seems to be a story of a woman whose
niche is in the garden. Upon deeper inspection, the story reveals strong symbolisms of children,
vulnerability, and connection being the most important, of the main character. Elisa Allen is the
main character who is at her strongest and most proud in the garden and weakened when she
becomes vulnerable and loses her connection to the outer world. Elisa shows a new aura of

Marketing Warfare
Executive summary
Marketing warfare strategies are a type of strategies, used in business and marketing, that try to
draw parallels between business and warfare, and then apply the principles of military strategy to
business situations, with competing firms considered as analogous to sides in a military conflict,
and market share considered as analogous to the territory which is being fought over citation

When the defenders are taken by surprise, it usually is because they ignored warnings or did not
take them seriously.
The New Era of Competition
Ries and Trout argue that it is strategy and not hard work that determines success. In warfare, when
a battle turns to hand to hand combat, the advantage resulting from the strategic plan no longer
exists. In marketing, a firm achieves victory through a smarter strategy, not by spending longer
hours with meetings, reports, memos, and management reviews. When management declares that it
is time to redouble our efforts , then the marketing battle has turned to hand to hand combat and is
likely to end in defeat.
The Nature of the Battleground
Ries and Trout argue that marketing battles do not take place in geographic areas, nor in stores.
Rather, marketing battles take place in the mind of the consumer.
In marketing, market research traditionally has served this function. However, Ries and Trout
propose that the most important information is to know which positions are held by which
companies in the mind of the consumer. In other words, who holds the high ground.
In marketing warfare, the question is one of who holds the

Essay on Live Evaluation of 39 Steps
Evaluation of a live performance:
The performance I went to see was The 39 Steps on the 25th of March, at the Criterion Theatre in
London, it s produced by Gaumont British.
The original 39 steps was an action spy novel written by John Buchan in 1915. Then Alfred
Hitchcock produced a film, then the play was written and when I first saw the play it was a bit of a
shock seeing as the book and film are set as thrillers and the play is very much a comedy.
The play is set in 1914 and Europe is on the brink of war. The main protagonist Richard Hannay is
bored with life, until he runs into a mysterious German woman names Annabella Schmidt at the
theatre. Richard then takes the woman home with him and she reveals that she is tracking down ...

This I thought was a very different, but clever way of expressing large scenes. Occasionally a
follow spot was used to highlight some parts of the of the play for comical effect. At the
beginning Richard is asked to look out the window by Annabella and when he does two actors
run on stage with a lamp post and as soon as they are on the spot light is on and when they leave
it s off again, they did this to give a sense of perspective from the window to the street and also to
take the mick out of classic thrillers.
The set and props where very compact and were built and moved on and off by the cast because
they are designed to be transferred by one person. The props where all cleverly done, for
instance they made a bridge out of three ladders, a train out of four boxes and a house from just
one door. The door I thought was one of the best props used because the cast managed to make a
fairly small stage appear huge just by moving the door and pretending each time that it was a
new room every time they passed through it. At one point in the play Richard and Pamela ask
the scottish landlords for a sandwich and they come back with a loaf of bread cut in two with one
slice of lettuce in the middle, this was such a simple idea but made a big deal and a laugh out of it
The rhythm of the production was extremely fast paced due to the size of the cast and comedy. The
costumes helped speeding up the pace with changes

Theist Argument
One of the first ways a theist might respond to this argument is by denying premise 1 because one
might claim that Rowe has given no sufficient reason to believe that it is true. All that has been

good is that can justify Godin permitting such evil(Rowe, 2004, p.7). This line of argument is also
known as the argument from ignorance. Could we, the theist argues, even comprehend the goods
which permit much of this horrendous suffering given the infinite transcendence of Gods mind?

For example, there is the problem of geography where suffering from natural disasters could have
been more evenly distributed around the world by God, at present it is only happening in certain
regions, most predominantly the third world countries (Tattersall, 2015, p.4). There is also the
problem of quantity, the quantity of natural evil in our world is far too much to be explained by the
advantageous effects of showing human virtues such as courage, compassion and love (Tattersall,

is evidence against the belief in God, although it does not disprove his existence as this is not
what I have set out to do here, it does significantly lower the probability that there is a God. We can

the doubleheader game. I observe the freshman team while playing and sitting it sitting in the
dugout. My focus was on number 22, a white girl named Emily. Emily is the pitcherfor Shepard
High School, she appeared to be about 125 pounds, 5.7 in height, blond hair and blue eyes.
Dressed in a white softball shirt, black softball pants, black socks and cleats.
During the observation, I notice Emily s cognitive, emotional, physical, and social development
while playing softball. As the team takes their positions; Emily is warming up with the catcher.
Emily showed excitement and determination to strike the batter out. The umpires said let play ball

She used her gross motor skills that included running, sliding, swinging, catching and throwing.
For example, Emily would swing with great force in attempt to hit the ball. She also would run
fast to make it to first base after batting. While playing the field she would attempt to catch the ball
to get player out, or would throw the ball to where the play is occurring.
Lastly, I was able to witness Emily s social development skills during the softball game. As she
interacted well with her teammates. She followed the coaches and teammate instructions when a
play needed to be made.
After concluding my observation, I found that Emily didn t appreciate her parents. She appeared to
be an ungrateful daughter. Parents lacked discipline, they did correct her when been

How Personal Branding And Maintenance Of One Is Crucial...
This study focuses on the various aspects of personal branding and how the development and
maintenance of one is crucial for the development and success of future careers. With today s
tough and competitive job market, jobseekers are struggling to stand out from their peers and are
used to being passed over and forgotten about by potential employers. Developing a personal brand
ensures that individuals are not left behind and that they develop the competitive advantage that
positions them for the career opportunities they deserve.

Personal branding has become an important aspect for candidates within job searches (Kaputa,
2006).
While many companies are using the opportunity of search engines and social media as hiring
tools for future employees, personal branding has become a crucial part of the hiring process.
Developing a Personal Brand
One of the most important aspects of developing a personal brand is differentiating between
important terminologies within the branding spectrum. the first step begins by establishing a brand
identity and communicating that through brand positioning to a specific target audience. Brand
identity is defined as how the marketer wants the brand to be perceived, Brand positioning uses that
specific brand identity to differentiate the person from other candidates within their target audience
by highlighting important values and aspects of the brand identity. The brand image is then noted
as a reflection of the person from their audience. This reaction is generally based on visible
behavior, nonverbal behavior, and other observable cues. (Frischmann, 2014) In order to begin the
process of establishing a brand identity, one must acknowledge what it is about themselves that is
worthy of branding. suggests that to start the branding process, it s necessary to develop a
processional biography that includes a personal brand statement, which includes visions, goals, and
passions that

Analysis Of The Old Man And The Sea
From a renowned author writing illustrious novels such as A Farewell to Arms to a jaded author
writing undistinguished novels such as Across the River and Into the Trees. Ernest Hemingway
was at the pinnacle of his career during the 1920s 1940s (O Hara John); however, when Across
the River and into the Trees was released to the public he was dethroned and his writing career
was considered to be concluded (Great World Writers: Twentieth Century). A decade would pass
until Hemingway would publish another book. The Old Man and the Seawas the novella that
resurrected Hemingway s career and boosted Hemingway to win the Nobel Prize in literature of
1954. Hemingway s The Old Man and the Sea sets itself apart from other Hemingway novels. Its
simplicity but powerful themes of struggle, perseverance, and pride allowed it to connect to
readers around the world. The Old Man and the Sea is Hemingway s personal allegory
highlighting Hemingway s experiences and struggle during his ten year writing drought. Finca
Vigia was Hemingway s villa ten miles outside of Havana Cuba. Hemingway lived in Cuba
sporadically from 1939 1960 (Great World Writers: Twentieth Century). During this time
Hemingway observed, embraced, and became part of the Cuban Culture. Hemingway stated When I
wrote this Old Man and the Sea, I knew more [Cuban culture] and I could write with the same
degree of concentration and elimination (Herlihy). This statement exemplifies Hemingway s

Reference Interview
For the second part of my assignment, I was asked to do a reference interview. This for me was
the most exciting part of the assignment, since I haven t asked a library professional for help
since I was in elementary school. I was anxious to see how the librarian responded to me and was
interested in the quality of the resources we might find. Again, like the first part of the assignment,
I wanted to pay close attention and look at my interview experience with fresh eyes. I wanted a
different environment than what I experienced at the music library, so I chose a different library.

The Differences Of Baseball, Baseball Vs. Baseball
To someone who might not know the game of baseball or softball they might think they were
otherwise the same game only one is played with a slighter bigger ball. That is not the case here.
Although they are both played on similar fields, they both utilize a ball, bat, and a glove there are
many small differences within each of those. The gender played by both sports is typically
different, the type of ball used, pitching, the size of the fields, bats and rules. When it comes to
baseballit is typically played by men, although women can and do play baseball, softball is the
female equivalent. Womens being fastpitch. However, Studies have shown that the majority of
slow pitch players are men. Baseball started in the 1800s specifically 1846. It wasn t until 1943
an all women s professional baseball league started. After 11 years it was diminished and softball
began. 2004 is when professional fastpitch was started. Softball and baseball are both sports
played with a ball. In all levels of baseball whether it be youth or professional adult leagues the
weight and circumference of a baseball is the same. It weighs between five and five and one
fourth ounces. The circumference is about nine inches. The biggest difference between baseball
and softball is size. In the youth leagues of softball they use ten inch softballs. Fastpitch in the
higher levels use twelve inch balls. Gloves are used in both sports. Softball infielders usually have

The Advantage Of Bilingualism
Bilingualism varies additional in research relying on the examination, distinctive groups of people

is dealt with two distinct languages. It is firmly identified to the wonder of language acquisition the
route in which we as a whole take in our native languageas children. Knowing two languages
instead of one is beneficial. However, in recent years, researchers have started to explain how the
advantages of bilingualism are significantly more crucial than having the ability to speak with a
bigger group of people.
Research has demonstrated that the brains of children who are bilingual grow better intellectual
capabilities. Researchers who inspected the wonder gave it a peculiar name the bilingual advantage.
The mind of the speaker rapidly gets used to overseeing two languages at once. This creates abilities
for capacities extending from inhibition, working memory and switching attention. All these
psychological aptitudes affect the mind s official control framework, which for the most part deals

Once a child learns more than one language, it is easy for them to pick up another one with ease.

22). This stage may also be impacted by a person s sexual identity. According to Levy (2009),
sexual identity is not simple or clean cut and does not stand alone. It intersects with other aspects
of identity such as race, ethnicity, class, gender, religion, education, and so forth (p. 982). What is
considered normal sexual behavior does not constitute homosexuality. Therefore, adolescents who
are struggling with their sexuality, may run into an identity crisis by trying to find themselves
while trying to appeal to societal norms. While the pressure to conform to the heterosexual norm,
gays and lesbians may struggle with their same sex desires. Further, with this schism between
their desires, behaviors, and identities, individuals may experience isolation, low self esteem,
depression, and anger (Levy, 2009, p. 983). Unsuccessful resolution of this crisis may lead to role
confusion or identity diffusion (Robins et. all, 2012, p. 215). According to Robins et. Al (2012),
youths who emerge with a strong sense of identity and individuality gain a lasting ego quality of
fidelity, or freely pledged loyalties (p. 215).
Intimacy Vs. Isolation Erik Erikson s sixth stag of psychosocial development is Young Adulthood
(early to late 20s). Erikson describes this stage as the young adult develops ability to give and

Roman Temple Research Paper
This was the great temple on the Capitolium, one of the two peaks of the Capitoline Hill. It was
dedicated the Capitoline Triad, Jupiter, Juno and Minerva. Tarquinius Priscus vowed this temple,
but tradition states that a large part of the work was done by Tarquinius Superbus. With his
overthrow in 509 B.C., the first consul of the new Republic dedicated it on September 13. Here
on each January 1 the new consuls took office in a colorful ceremony. Each month on the Ides, a
white sheep was sacrificed to Jupiter. On the special Ides of September the temple s annual festival
there was a great banquet for the people of Romein which the statues of the three gods participated.
It was prone to disaster, burning down in 83 B.C., A.D. 69, and 80. The last rebuilding occurred

Broken Memories, Broken People, Broken Dreams This narrative text is based off the film The
Sapphires set in Australia in the 1960s. In The Sapphires we see a flashback of Kay s childhood
and how she is part of the Stolen Generation. I will use this storyline as the starting point for my
diary entries. The film gave me background knowledge on Stolen Generation and their
experiences they faced. However, I need to know extra information so I will do further research
about the Stolen Generation, in order to give an accurate description of their experiences. This
narrative is targeted towards everyone. It is designed to inform them about the Stolen Generation

also use descriptive language when describing objects and sceneries throughout the text. The

Ethical Implications Of Disclosure
Ethical Implications of Disclosure and Nondisclosure
Being an advanced practice nurse is a huge responsibility. The profession itself is advancing and
with the Affordable Care Act moral, ethical and legal considerations of providing care as an
advanced practice nurse have increased exponentially. Ethical standards for nurse practitioner are
defined in the American Nurses Code of Ethics. Ethical standard are based largely on the
individual nurse beliefs. Because ethics are not a clear cut science, the handling certain situations
are defined by state laws. The purpose if this paper is to consider ethical and legal implications of
revealing a prescribing mistake to a patient who has no knowledge that a mistake exist.
Ethical Implications
Nurses have a responsibility to understand and operate with the confines of the law concerning
medications. However the responsibility does not end at the law there are also ethical, moral if you
will, implications. Writing prescription for patients is an integral part of providing care for patients
in today s society (Arcangelo Peterson, 2013). Ethical concerns with prescription writing include
understanding medications and ensuring that individual prescribers take responsibility for the care
they each provide. The American Nurses Association Code of Ethics Provision 3 (2015), indicates
that the nurse will promote, advocates, and protect the rights, health, and safety of the patient. This
means that when a nurse realizes a mistake has

Benjamin Barker s Transformation In Sweeny Todd
When considering the character Benjamin Barker Sweeny Todd , there is a transformation in
costuming from an innocent man to vengeful protagonist. At the start of the show he is dressed
in depressing black color, with his hair as black can be. There is no white stripe in his hair
which in my own interpretation makes me think of Cruella Deville from 101 Dalmatians,
especially as he projects his anger through song. His voice contains such passion and rage, with a
deep echo that the audience couldn t ever forget. He appears as a sailor with torn clothes, all of
which are deep in colorand symbolizes hated and despair. Also, the colors used give a sense of

Types Of Plants And Insect Herbivores Influence Community...
Nutrient availability, plants, and insect herbivores influence community structure and function both
aboveground and belowground, but it is unclear whether these factors are independent or
interdependent (Wright et al. 2014). Ehrlich and Raven (1964) used butterflies as a model organism
to examine coevolution between closely interacting organisms, specifically between plants and
insect herbivores. Ehrlich and Raven (1964) noted that structural and mechanical characteristics of
plants have the potential to modify these relationships. Additionally, many plants produce
secondary metabolic compounds, which may act as repellents to insects and correlate with the
presence of nutrients. The chemical composition of plants may change with age, exposure to
sunlight, or other environmental factors, and changes in chemical composition may influence the
attraction or repulsion of insects to plants (Ehrlich and Raven 1964). According to the study,
secondary plantsubstances played an integral role in determining patterns of plant utilization by
various speciesof butterflies, as well for other phytophagous and parasitic insect groups. Through
mutations and recombination, plants were able to produce chemical compounds not directly related
to their metabolic pathways. Ehrlich and Raven (1964) noted that some of these compounds
appeared to reduce the palatability of the plant. The abundance of phytophagous insects in the
tropics may accentuate the rate at which these interactions between

Film Analysis Of The Great Gatsby
Director Baz Luhrmann s approach in producing The Great Gatsby was If some people are going
to hate it, why not go balls out? (Mensa, Time Magazine) No matter what there would be a myriad
of critics of The Great Gatsby soundtrack. Whether he followed the script entirely, used only
classical and jazzinfluences for the music or even produced a less intense film someone was going
to have a complaint. So why not give those who are going to hate it something substantial to hold
onto? That s just what he did; using his personal style of incorporating novel themed music with a
relative genre that s popular today. For The Great Gatsby, it was drawing inspiration from the Jazz
Ageand today s hip hop, similar to Jazz in the sense of it s uprise from the underground to
becoming widely known and appreciated. Overall the soundtrack touches on old Jazz, party
Jazz, and Hip Hop in a way that reflects the behavior and luxury of the 1920s. As well as aspects
of the characters in the novel, especially within the song $100 bill by Jay Z. Most of the
soundtrack was altered and produced specifically for the film based on the novel. The producers
of the film collaborated with several artists, including Jay Z, Lana Del Rey, and Florence+The
Machine to develop instrumentals that flowed with the scenes. The co producer and supervisor
Anton Monsted did not choose any song or artist by accident. He carefully researched the
background and relativity of the plot and genre for The Great Gatsby.

The Need For Intravascular Catheters Are Evidently Clear
The need for intravascular catheters are evidently clear in modern day medical practices especially
in the intensive care setting (ICU). Despite the necessity of such catheters, their use places patients
at risk of developing complications such as infections, thrombophlebitis, endocarditis and a variety
of other metastatic infections. In the hospital setting an estimated 250,000 bloodstream infections
(BSI) associated to CVC occur annually, thus the need for proper aseptic skin care. The widely
used antisepticfor cleansing CVC sites in the United States was iodine. However several studies
have shown that cleansing CVC sites with 2% aqueous chlorhexidine gluconate lowered BSI when

Define the Scope of the EBP
According to the CDC an approximate 80,000 BSI cases occur in ICUs annually in the United
States, with an estimated 250,000 cases in hospitals as a whole. The mortality rate associated in
this case is around 12 25% per infection, causing a cost of $25,000 per episode for the health care
system. In this writers facility aseptic techniques are emphasized, including the use of chlorhexidine
instead of iodine. The impact of BSI via CVC are not only patient centered but cost the healthcare
system an approximate $34,508 $56,000 per case to treat each infection.
Stakeholders
Members that would be included on the team to prevent CVC associated BSI are the physician
whose responsibility is to ensure proper procedures and practices are carried out during insertion,
such as aseptic techniques. After insertion of the CVC then it is the job of the radiologist to ensure
proper placement of the tube using X Ray imaging. After insertion and confirmation of placement
then the nurse takes over, performing duties such as dressing changes and assessment of the site for
complications. Also part of the team is the certified nursing assistant (CNA) who spends more time
with the patient than anyone else on the team who can report complications earlier to the nurse.

  • 2. The Mamluk Military, Ottoman Military And Gunpowder Weapons Mamluk military, Ottoman military, and firearms Military, the Mamluks were a professional force recruited as young Turkish, then increasingly as Circassian slaves who endured rigorous training and were disinclined to adopt firearms. The Mamluk s disinclination appears partly motivated by prior success, as the Mamluks were able to effectively use heavy cavalrywith horse archer capabilities to successfully defeat the Crusader armies and vanquish the Mongols at the Battle of Ain Jalut. The Mamluks were also opposed to firearms from a cultural standpoint, viewing them as un masculine, refusing to train with them, and believing their martial qualities and dedication, honed through years of training, could overcome any technological advances. Mamluk military manuals like an 16th century publication titled Arab Archery reiterate the Mamluks were dedicated to the concept of holy war and invested heavily in the use of cavalry tactics and the compound bow, tactics which required years of rigorous training to master and as alluded to previously, secured the Mamluks multiple military successes since the founding of the Sultanate. Granted, more practical concerns may have influenced the Mamluks disinclination to adopt gunpowder weapons. The Mamluks, heavily invested in cavalry tactics, would have found limited use for firearms as wheel lock firearms which could be utilized by cavalry first appeared in 1520 and did not reach the Ottomans until 1543. Simultaneously, the Mamluks ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The bloodwork used to diagnose Lyme disease relies on the antibodies that the body makes in response to infection with Borrelia. It often takes a few weeks for a person s body to generate enough antibodies to show up on a bloodtest, however, time is crucial in the treatment in the treatment of Lyme disease. Additionally, many symptoms of Lyme disease coincide with those of other issues and it may be difficult to differentiate between possible diseases and conditions. Thankfully, there is a better two step method to identify Lyme disease. The first test is called an enzyme linked immunosorbent assay or ELISA, which is a sensitive test that examines antibodies in the body, but not specifically those related to Borrelia. If the results are positive or inconclusive, continue on to the second test. The second test is the Western Blot, which is a specific test that is used after positive or inconclusive results from ELISA. A positive WB test after a positive or inconclusive ELISA test result in a diagnosis of Lyme disease. A negative in either test results in a negative diagnosis.3 Prevention/Treatment There are many ways to prevent Lyme disease. To begin with it is important to know how ticks get onto your skin. Highly Acrobatic Gatsby Erotics Highly Acrobatic Gatsby Erotica The public view on fanfiction tends to focus more on the unorthodox: erotic Gatsby fic, the hypothetical romantic relationship of Kirk and Spock, or the media hurricane that was E.L. James s Fifty Shades of Grey. Fanfiction is treated as a recent phenomenon despite being around since the existence of the written language; many classic, derivative works could be considered fanfiction of open source content. While big media sources such as CNN, Yahoo, or Fox discuss it in terms of copyright, deviance, and money, independent news sources, blogs, and discussion panels prefer a more holistic view, focusing on fanfiction as a reaction to not only existing content, but to societal problems. But women, being people who still have biological needs and desires to be fulfilled, have rarely been offered a direct but safe pathway into sexual self discovery other than through experience, which carries the risks of sexual assault, unwanted pregnancy, and STI acquisition. Men have an entire industry dedicated to fulfilling their sexual desires the porn industry s treatment of women is nothing to bat an eye at. Off screen, girls grow up being treated as sexual objects from a young age, surrounded by sexy women in advertising, movies, and TV. Having to deal with others schoolgirl fantasies and the idea of being jailbait make it hard for a woman at the apex of puberty to safely explore her developing sexuality. Girls also grow up with a ridiculous double standard telling them to avoid being sexy while avoiding prudishness: to dress conservatively if they don t want to get assaulted, but to show some skin because nobody likes a bore. Speaking from experience, it gets tiring being told to be two things at once in order to please somebody else, and media has a powerful effect on how women see themselves, as stated by Katie Barnes in her piece, On The Importance Of Media Representation ... Another one way model of PR is the public information model. Grunig and Hunt (1983) stresses that the public information model is all about having the appearance of journalism to increase credibility and authority of the message. and it has been found to be used mainly by government agencies, law enforcement agencies and military units all around the world (Simpson,2015). This model does not place stress on gathering feedbacks. Non government organisations campaign against the permission given for Adani Coal mines in Queensland is a typical example of using the power of journalism and press releases to influence public opinion. According to BCA a pink washer is a company or organization that claims to care about breast cancer by promoting a pink ribbon product, but at the same time produces, manufactures and/or sells products that are linked to the disease. These companies all give themselves a pat on the back for spreading awareness, but all the while they are really just profiting off of breast cancer. Example one: In 2010, Dansko Shoe Company sold pink ribbon clogs. Consumers likely thought that a portion of their purchase of pink ribbon clogs went to a breast cancer program. However, purchase of the pink ribbon clogs was not connected to Dansko s donation none of the portion of the sales went toward their already set donation of $25,000 to Susan G. Komen for the Cure. No matter whether or not you bought the clogs, their donation was the same. Example two: In 2010, Reebok marketed a line of pink ribbon emblazoned footwear and apparel at prices ranging from$50 to $100. Though it heavily promoted the fact that some of their pink ribbon product sales would be donated to the Avon Breast Cancer Crusade, they set a limit of $750,000, regardless of how many items were sold, and there was no mechanism in place to alert consumers once the maximum donation had been met. ... This has consequently caused Christians to defend their monotheism in relation to the Trinity. In the two such defensesthat are studied in this essay, we find that Christians have explained the nature of Trinity with varying degrees of effectiveness and success. Timothy the Patriarch defends the Trinity before the Caliph Madhi with few compelling arguments, and Gregory of Nyssa explains it in a more abstract and therefore more effective way. Each however defends the Trinity according to his understanding of it. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Timothy offers several apt analogies comparing the Trinity to earthly things, yet he fails to offer a compelling argument to refute the Caliph s simple yet powerful statement: If He is one, He is not three; and if He is three he is not one; what is this contradiction? (69). The most obvious of Timothy s logical errors is that he assumes (naturally) that the Son of the Trinity is in fact the Christ or Messiah of the Hebrew Scripture. He therefore refers to Hebrew Scripture to show that the Son is equal and not subservient to the Father: God, therefore, called Christ a Lord through the prophet David, and since no true lord is a servant, it follows that Christ is not a servant (82). The flaw in this logic, or at least the reason for its failure to convince the Caliph, lies in the fact that the Caliph cannot believe that Jesus is the Christ. The logic is also flawed from a modern point of view, for there the writers of the Hebrew Scripture knew neither Jesus nor the concept of the Trinity. It would therefore be anachronistic to use such references or to claim for example that the We of the creation story in Genesis refers to the Christian Trinity. Existential Anxiety Via Self Preservation Essay Ashley Martinez Professor Steven Adisasmito Smith Modern World Literature 12 December 2016 Existential Anxiety via Self Preservation To a man utterly without a sense of belonging, mere life is all that matters. It is the only reality in an eternity of nothingness, and he clings to it with shameless despair. ― Eric Hoffer In its most basic definition, an existential crisis occurs when a person feels out of touch with their place in the world. They question why they are here as well as what determines their leaving. In Leo Tolstoy s Hadji Murat and Wole Soyinka s Death and the King s Horseman, two characters experience a similar reaction after failing to conform to societal expectations. For example, in Hadji Murat, the titular character s shifting allegiance depends on whatever is in the best interest of his family. He initially rejects his community leader s request for him to join the ghazavat or holy war against the Russians (Tolstoy 335 464). After this refusal, Hadji Murat pledges his allegiance to the latter whether he can actually be trusted or not is an entirely differently matter (Tolstoy 335 464). In Wole Soyinka s Death and the King s Horseman, we have Elesin Oba, a character who fails to follow his king in death because he still wishes to remain in the realm of the living (1049 1078). The New Era of Competition Ries and Trout argue that it is strategy and not hard work that determines success. In warfare, when a battle turns to hand to hand combat, the advantage resulting from the strategic plan no longer exists. In marketing, a firm achieves victory through a smarter strategy, not by spending longer hours with meetings, reports, memos, and management reviews. When management declares that it is time to redouble our efforts , then the marketing battle has turned to hand to hand combat and is likely to end in defeat. The Nature of the Battleground Ries and Trout argue that marketing battles do not take place in geographic areas, nor in stores. Rather, marketing battles take place in the mind of the consumer. In marketing, market research traditionally has served this function. However, Ries and Trout propose that the most important information is to know which positions are held by which companies in the mind of the consumer. In other words, who holds the high ground. The original 39 steps was an action spy novel written by John Buchan in 1915. Then Alfred Hitchcock produced a film, then the play was written and when I first saw the play it was a bit of a shock seeing as the book and film are set as thrillers and the play is very much a comedy. The play is set in 1914 and Europe is on the brink of war. The main protagonist Richard Hannay is bored with life, until he runs into a mysterious German woman names Annabella Schmidt at the theatre. At the beginning Richard is asked to look out the window by Annabella and when he does two actors run on stage with a lamp post and as soon as they are on the spot light is on and when they leave it s off again, they did this to give a sense of perspective from the window to the street and also to take the mick out of classic thrillers. The set and props where very compact and were built and moved on and off by the cast because they are designed to be transferred by one person. The props where all cleverly done, for instance they made a bridge out of three ladders, a train out of four boxes and a house from just one door. The door I thought was one of the best props used because the cast managed to make a fairly small stage appear huge just by moving the door and pretending each time that it was a new room every time they passed through it. At one point in the play Richard and Pamela ask the scottish landlords for a sandwich and they come back with a loaf of bread cut in two with one slice of lettuce in the middle, this was such a simple idea but made a big deal and a laugh out of it The rhythm of the production was extremely fast paced due to the size of the cast and comedy. Ehrlich and Raven (1964) noted that structural and mechanical characteristics of plants have the potential to modify these relationships. Additionally, many plants produce secondary metabolic compounds, which may act as repellents to insects and correlate with the presence of nutrients. The chemical composition of plants may change with age, exposure to sunlight, or other environmental factors, and changes in chemical composition may influence the attraction or repulsion of insects to plants (Ehrlich and Raven 1964). According to the study, secondary plantsubstances played an integral role in determining patterns of plant utilization by various speciesof butterflies, as well for other phytophagous and parasitic insect groups. Through mutations and recombination, plants were able to produce chemical compounds not directly related to their metabolic pathways. Ehrlich and Raven (1964) noted that some of these compounds appeared to reduce the palatability of the plant. The abundance of phytophagous insects in the tropics may accentuate the rate at which these interactions between ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 51. Film Analysis Of The Great Gatsby Director Baz Luhrmann s approach in producing The Great Gatsby was If some people are going to hate it, why not go balls out? (Mensa, Time Magazine) No matter what there would be a myriad of critics of The Great Gatsby soundtrack. Whether he followed the script entirely, used only classical and jazzinfluences for the music or even produced a less intense film someone was going to have a complaint. So why not give those who are going to hate it something substantial to hold onto? That s just what he did; using his personal style of incorporating novel themed music with a relative genre that s popular today. For The Great Gatsby, it was drawing inspiration from the Jazz Ageand today s hip hop, similar to Jazz in the sense of it s uprise from the underground to becoming widely known and appreciated. Overall the soundtrack touches on old Jazz, party Jazz, and Hip Hop in a way that reflects the behavior and luxury of the 1920s. As well as aspects of the characters in the novel, especially within the song $100 bill by Jay Z. Most of the soundtrack was altered and produced specifically for the film based on the novel. The producers of the film collaborated with several artists, including Jay Z, Lana Del Rey, and Florence+The Machine to develop instrumentals that flowed with the scenes. The co producer and supervisor Anton Monsted did not choose any song or artist by accident. He carefully researched the background and relativity of the plot and genre for The Great Gatsby. ... • 52. The Need For Intravascular Catheters Are Evidently Clear The need for intravascular catheters are evidently clear in modern day medical practices especially in the intensive care setting (ICU). Despite the necessity of such catheters, their use places patients at risk of developing complications such as infections, thrombophlebitis, endocarditis and a variety of other metastatic infections. In the hospital setting an estimated 250,000 bloodstream infections (BSI) associated to CVC occur annually, thus the need for proper aseptic skin care. The widely used antisepticfor cleansing CVC sites in the United States was iodine. However several studies have shown that cleansing CVC sites with 2% aqueous chlorhexidine gluconate lowered BSI when compared to iodine. (O Grady et. al., 2011) Change Model ... (Stevens, 2012) Define the Scope of the EBP According to the CDC an approximate 80,000 BSI cases occur in ICUs annually in the United States, with an estimated 250,000 cases in hospitals as a whole. The mortality rate associated in this case is around 12 25% per infection, causing a cost of $25,000 per episode for the health care system. In this writers facility aseptic techniques are emphasized, including the use of chlorhexidine instead of iodine. The impact of BSI via CVC are not only patient centered but cost the healthcare system an approximate $34,508 $56,000 per case to treat each infection. Stakeholders Members that would be included on the team to prevent CVC associated BSI are the physician whose responsibility is to ensure proper procedures and practices are carried out during insertion, such as aseptic techniques. After insertion of the CVC then it is the job of the radiologist to ensure proper placement of the tube using X Ray imaging. After insertion and confirmation of placement then the nurse takes over, performing duties such as dressing changes and assessment of the site for complications. Also part of the team is the certified nursing assistant (CNA) who spends more time with the patient than anyone else on the team who can report complications earlier to the nurse. Determine Responsibility of Team Members These members are important to the team because they each at one time or another has an interaction with ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
