A Comparison Of Bloodletting And Miraculous Cures
Generally, life can be separated into two phases: the first being the coming of age where people
transition into adulthood and realize that there is not as much good in the world as there first appeared
to be. The second phase is the aftermath, where people either learn to cope with the cruelties of life or
simply fail. Bloodletting and Miraculous Cures, by Vincent Lam, follows a group of medical students
as they train to become doctors and how they learn to deal with different social pressures that
accompanies the profession. At the beginnings of the characters medical journeys, they are all ecstatic
to get into medical school, each having their own reason, such as good intentions or to appease their
parents (Lam 10). However, as the characters begin to ease into doctoral life, the ... Show more

While a majority of the characters eventually accept their circumstances, Fitzgerald is unable to cope
with his reality because of his childish hold on an idealistic world. [He] expect[s] to fulfill all [his]
desires in this life (266); his mentality that life will eventually give what is expected over time, stops
him from taking initiative and finding different ways to attain an ideal life. Through Fitzgerald s
detrimental journey from innocence to pragmatism, Bloodletting and Miraculous Cures explores the
negative repercussions of not acknowledging and accepting the harsh realities of life. At the beginning
of the book, Ming describes Fitzgerald as strategically unwise and as a result, pure (11). He is naive
and childish; Fitzgerald is self centred because he is unable to accept

Executive Summary
Mixed Martial arts, The UFC s official sport is one of the most exciting and fastest growing sports in
the world. The sport is best described as combat sports were two individuals are matched inside a
cage, octagon or ring for a period of three to five, five minute rounds. The match is won by knocking
out your opponent, submitting them or winning by a decision, judged by three ringside judges. Mixed
Martial arts has changed throughout the years as new rules and weight classes have been progressively
introduced throughout the years in order to streamline and downplay its image.
Nonetheless Mixed Martial Arts from its on set in the late 1980 s has been marred with controversy
often described as a barbaric sport with little to no rules. Several critics lobbied at its early existence to
try and ban the sport from entering the mainstream. In the late 1990 s, Senator John McCain, one of

The Psychosocial Impact of Psoriasis, a Skin Condition
Don t judge a book by its cover is one of the greatest known metaphorical phrases in human history.
People constantly identify with and attempt to apply the concept in everyday life; yet our society has
constructed a paradigm in which the perfection of your skin predetermines your social interactions in
life. Likewise it is important to comprehend that it is not only on the side of society s judgements
which determines your interactions, but it is also that of the lowered self esteem of the individual. To
garner apposite knowledge, the task at hand required the interviewing of a person with a skin
condition with the aim to internalise and reflect upon the biopsychosocial as well as cultural impacts
of the illness. I was lucky enough to have the privilege of interviewing Jane Doe, a 20 year old white
female with a history of psoriasis since age five. I was introduced to Jane through a close friend and
entering into a professional relationship, she agreed to help me in my endeavour. Drawing on the
principles of interviewing I ensured that it was a quiet, confidential and comfortable space1; thus it
took place in her home. Jane has had a difficult beginning in life as psoriasis a common, chronic
immune mediated skin disease currently has no cure and is characterised by scaly, reddened patches,
papules, and plaques, which usually itch.2

Social Changes During The Industrial Revolution
The Industrial Revolution caused many changes. The three main changes that are quite noticeable are
technological, social, and economic changes. Great examples of theses changes can be found within a
variety of sources, but mainly coming from my history textbook. Massive technological changes in
machines, energy use, and transportation (technological). It resulted in rapid urbanization, and it
created different social classes (social). This led to the development of Laissez Faire capitalism,
socialism, utilitarianism, socialism, and communism (economic). To start, technological changes were
one of the main changes during the Industrial Revolution. It all started with the substitution of
mechanical devices for human skills, then everything changed. Machinery was applied first in coal
mining and textiles. The new machines, methods, and techniques quickly spread into other industrial
areas. For example, the use of steam engines in transportation led to the railroad system, vastly
increasing the speed, reliability, and amount of goods moved over long distances, converting the
nation into one unified market. This led to a plethora of other technical changes, with iron, steel,
bridge building, organization, and communication. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
During the Industrial Revolution, the social structure of society definitely changed. Before the
Revolution, many people lived in small villages, either doing work with agriculture, or crafting.
Everything was mainly done by hand, but with industrialization, came a jurassic change. The new
enclosure laws left farmers jobless, and machines made small hand weavers redundant. As a result,
many people were forced to work in factories. This caused many families to move closer to their jobs,
but more importantly, many become poor. Due to the increase in urbanization, many families priorities
changed. As a result, social classes were slowly

Born in New York City, Artie Shaw would become one of the top bandleaders in the swing era. He
began his musical career as a highly sought after alto saxophone player in the New York area, and was
able to benefit from the growth of radio and studio recordings. As he perfected his technical ability
with various dance bands, he was still relatively unknown in the early 30 s when he began to focus
exclusively on the Clarinet while Swing music began to grow in popularity.
While we may carefully analyze the two pieces to satisfy our curiosity regarding musical evolution in

Later that year, Jobim was invited along with other Brazilian artists to perform in the US as Bossa
Nova grew into a very popular musical fad. Several other Jazz groups adjusted their styles, releasing
many Bossa Nova songs until the trend fell from popularity in the late 1960 s. Jobim continued to
perform with small groups around the world to appreciative audiences until shortly before his death,
securing his reputation as one of the great songwriters of Jazz music in the 20th century.
Begin the Beguine was recorded in July 1938 by a swing orchestra led by Artie Shaw on the clarinet
as the lead soloist. His big band was composed of 3 trumpet players, 3 trombones, 2 alto saxophones,
2 tenor sax players, and a rhythm section including piano, guitar, bass, and drums. As the song begins
with the clarinet solo and muted trumpets, the swing feel becomes clear to the listener. The rhythm
section keeps a steady beat of 4 beats per measure throughout, and the solos are carefully defined and
organized with the drums or the trumpets occasionally helping to bridge gaps between various
sections of the song until the Clarinet finally leads the band to a conclusion.
Desafinado was recorded in February 1962 by a small jazz group of six skilled musicians. The front
men for this recording was Stan Getz on Tenor Sax and Charlie Byrd on the guitar. A rhythm guitar,
bass, drums, and percussionist formed the rhythm section for this famous Bossa Nova tune. As the

clarity;
For treated water, the clarity would be very clear because of how many times it has been cleaned and
filtered again and again. For the river is probably clear because of how many times the river has been
flowing through the tree roots and rocks by blocking the dirt, pee, and poo behind. Unlike the river,
the tank water does not flow through any substances but it does get cleaned by the owner. The pond
water does not get cleaned and the leaves that fall in the water change the color and clarity of the

The pH of the river is probably in a range from 6 to 8 because it is very clean and can be used a
drinking water. The pond water is in a range from 7 to 10 because it does not look drinkable. The tank
water is 4 to 6 because of the fish poop and pee in that water.
Phosphates;
The pond water might have been affected by the rain because when it rains then there is a lot is
Phosphates in the water and if it doesn t then the water is fresh. There might be the tiniest bit of
Phosphates in the treated water because it has been treated various times. For the river water, the
Phosphates might be affected the same way as the pond water because it is once again open outside.
There might be high levels of phosphates in the tank water because of the food and what is inside it.

How to Control Huntington’s Disease
Currently, there is no cure for Huntington s disease (HD) and only limited numbers of treatments are
effective in controlling HD symptoms. HD a progressive neurodegenerative disorder characterized by
motor disturbances, psychiatric dysfunctions, and cognitive disabilities. HD is inherited in an
autosomal dominant manner, means that the inheritance of a single copy of the mutant huntingtin
allele containing an expanded CAG repeat region in exon 1 ( 36 CAG repeat) causes the disease.
Translation of the mutant allele mRNA yields the mutant huntingtin protein (mHtt) containing an
expanded polyglutamine region near the amino terminus, which favor protein cleavage and
accumulation of the N terminus in the nucleus. N terminal huntingtin affects transcription of subsets
of genes. Early in HD progression, levels of the cannabinoid receptor type 1 (CB1) and dopamine
receptor type 2 (D2) are reduced in the medium spiny neurons of the striatum. CB1 receptor is able to
activate several signaling pathways through the activation of different G proteins as well as arrestin 2.
Furthermore, compelling anatomical and physiological evidence suggests a strong interaction between
the CB1 and D2 receptors. Given this interaction between CB1 and D2 receptors, drugs that block or
activate either receptor will influence convergent signaling pathways. Typical and atypical
antipsychotics, including haloperidol and olanzapine, respectively, are commonly prescribed to HD
patients to control chorea and

Islamic Marriage Customs Vary, Depending On Country Of...
Islamic marriage customs vary, depending on country of origin and government regulations, Muslim
men and women around the world are guided by Islamic laws and practices specified in the Quran.
According to the teachings of the Quran, a married Muslim couple is associated with clothing. Within
this context, both husband and wife are each other s protector and comforter, just as real garments
show and conceal the body of human beings. Thus, they are meant for one another A legal contract In
Islam, a person should be properly married, and this should include both the religious ceremony and
the legal requirements of the law of the land. However, Muslims who marry without legal registration
in the United Kingdom are putting their womenfolk at some risk, and their children are not legitimate
in the eyes of the UK law and no Muslim should wish to put his wife and children in this difficult
position. In Islam, marriages are not considered to be made in heaven between soul mates destined for
each other; they are not sacraments. They are social contracts which bring rights and obligations to
both parties, and can only be successful when these are mutually respected and cherished. Polygyny

A New Hope Microwaves Essay
In the movie Star Wars A New Hope, Han Solo states, She ll make point five past Lightspeed (IMBD,
Quotes for Han Solo, 2015, para 49). This is referring to the speed of light. Microwaves are used for
heating foods quickly. Though, what most people don t use microwaves for is to measure to speed of
light with the help of electromagnetic waves.
Most people use microwaves everyday. A lot of people actually wonder how microwaves work. For
example, radio waves and radiation, microwaves use radio waves and radiation to heat foods (How
Microwave Cooking Works, 2015). Furthermore, radio waves heat food by getting water molecules
out of food (How Cooking Works, 2015). In addition, the history of a microwave started off very
interesting. For instance, there was someone whose name was Dr.Percy Spencer, he accidently
discovered the microwave (Clevenger 2015). More importantly, Dr.Percy had a chocolate bar in his
pocket, he was testing a new vacuum and then the radiation and heat from the vacuum melted the
chocolate (Clevenger, 2015). In the end, microwaves are something that is very useful ... Show more

Moreover, The speed of light is faster than everything that exists. For instance, Light can move at the
speed of 186,000 miles per second, the speed of light is also faster than the speed of sound (How fast
is the speed of light, Para 1, 2015). For a while in the 1500s and the 1600s, scientists were trying to
figure how to measure the speed of light. Of course, many different scientists like Galileo tried to do
experiments on this, but they never turned out to work(A Case of History in Astronomy and Physics,
The Speed of Light, para 9, 10, 11). Although, in 1676 a man named Ole Roemer measured the speed

Spanish Official Language
Spanish is the official language spoken in 20 different countries and it is one of the most spoken
languages around the world based on the number of people who are native speakers. Spanish is one of
the official languages of the United Nations and it is spoken as first and second language for more
than 400 million people. Many people may think that Spanish is just one language, therefore, it should
be understood the same way by all Spanish speakers around the world; which is true up to a point. The
truth is, there are thousands of ways in which a person can write or say something in Spanish and each
country has developed a unique way of using a specific word. Countries that speak Spanish have a
wide combination of words and slang words that make them unique in themselves, giving Spanish
language a different identity according to the place people live in. There might be various reasons of
why a same word may mean different things depending on the county in which it is used. When

travel to resorts for their vacations, many find excitement embarking on cruise ships for multiple
destinations and activities for their vacations. As one of the largest tourism outlets, cruises are
constantly changing with new routes and destinations for customers, with bringing as many as 3000
on board passengers (Cite MANAGING CRUISE SHIPS). Cruise ships allow passengers a wide
variety of activities and leisure during their stay aboard and while docked. With the boats stopping at
numerous destinations in one week, each visit has pros and cons to the general areas being visited.
This paper will focus on the cons that occur from the widely populated ships visiting ports in the
Bahamas. More so, the problem being that these cruise ships are bringing thousands of visitors
weekly, yet are failing to support port destinations economically which leaves the port locals and
entrepreneurs suffering. Specifically this paper will look into the cause of the issue, which is mostly
the cruise ships and management teams of the cruise companies. Further, this paper will explore the
solution to how these cruise companies can better support the port communities and aiding to the local

students are selecting college environments based solely upon the prestige of the institution without

League Universities are creating an unequal society amongst students. Mr. Deresiewicz was once on

Evolution Of Moths Research Paper
When you say the word Moth , you think about the winged insects that hang around the light on your
porch or yard. Moths can be different in color, shape, or even size. This was also said by David
Moskowitz. These winged insects are food for bats or birds. Some cultures in the world even eat
moths, moths can pollinate plants. In the United States there are up to 10,000 to 11,000 moth species.
If you see a flower that looks fragrant and white, example a yucca plant, it was most likely pollinated
by the moths. Bats use moths as food to fill them up at night. In other cultures around the world,
people use moths as protein to satisfy them. In some african countries it is common to eat moths for
protein.
( Butterflies and Moths of North America) In some countries there are complaints of moths eating
clothes and that they have destroyed blankets or even carpets. They can also be referred to as Webbing
Clothes Moths . These moths can be a œ inch long, and do not like light much. It might be best to

Drying Is A Mass And Heat Transfer Process Essay
Chapter 1 : Introduction
Drying is a simultaneous mass and heat transfer process that converts a liquid, solid or semi solid
feedstock into a solid product having lower moisture content. This is usually done by applying heat to
evaporate the liquid into a vapor phase. Sometimes drying takes place below the triple point of the
liquid to be removed and the solid phase is directly converted to vapor phase via sublimation as in
case of freeze drying. [1]
As drying must involve a phase change of the liquid to be removed, it is considered as one of the most
energy intensive unit operations. This is due to the high latent heat of vaporization, as well as, the
inefficiency of using hot air as the most common drying medium. Hence, the operating cost of dryers
represents their major cost item.
Drying is an important process in many fields such as chemical, agricultural, ceramics and
pharmaceutical industries. It may be done to have free flowing solids that are easy to handle, to
facilitate the preservation and storage of different materials, to reduce the transportation costs or to
achieve desired quality of products. [2]
Regeneration of adsorptive beds is an important drying application. The operation of such beds
includes three periods. During the first period adsorption takes place till breakthrough. This is
followed by steaming period where live steam is blown through the bed to remove the adsorbate from
the solid desiccant. In the third period; regeneration period, the hot, moist

the American Revolution, ed. John C. Dann in 1980. Prior to this class and primary source I never

A Summer Life rhetoric analysis
In his autobiographical narrative A Summer Life, Gary Soto vividly recreates the guilt felt by a six
year old boy who steals an apple pie. Through Soto s reminiscent he has taken us on a journey of his
guilt, paranoia, and redemption through the usage of tone, allusions, and imagery.
Since Soto knows stealing the pie is a sin his guilt is amplified when he ignores his knowledge. Soto s
guilt is emphasized through the tone of the story, my sweet tooth gleaming and the juice of my guilt
wetting my underarms... I nearly wept trying to decide which to steal. By Soto s tone towards the pies
over exaggerating on which one to steal shows that he is nervous and anxious. ... Show more content

When Soto refers back to Adam and Eve tells the reader that Soto is aware of his wrong doing but
ends up disregarding his prior knowledge and feels paranoid.
After stealing the apple pie and feeling guilty and paranoid Soto seeks redemption and shows that
through imagery. Soto tries to redeem himself by helping his sister but later has to crawl underneath
the house because the image of the kitchen swirling was too much, the kitchen swirling with heat and
flies this image resembles Hell. This image reveals that the guilt was too much for Soto and that the
crawling underneath the house resembles asking for forgiveness. During the time Soto goes
underneath the house and stays there he gives the image that Soto is coming back alive and free of sin,
I lay until I was cold and then crawled back to the light, rising from one knew, then another . This
image religiously represents that Soto is coming back from the dead and rising into the light. This
image shows that Soto is forgiven and that his sin for stealing the apple pie is gone.
Throughout the story Soto feels guilty and seeks redemption because Soto steals the apple pie. His
guilt is magnified when he thinks everyone knows of his sin, and starts to develop paranoia. The
author s attitude towards guilt affects how he is behaving. By using imagery and allusions Soto
recreates the guilt felt by a young boy who has stolen an apple

Rubik s Cube Essay
Background Rubik s cube is a toy puzzle designed by Ernö Rubik during the mid 1970s. It is a cube
shaped toy consisting of smaller cube pieces, called cubies with 6 faces possessing contrasting colors.
This rather primitive looking phenomenon was exceptionally popular during the 1980s, and peaking
1980 and 1983 with around 200 million cubes sold worldwide. Even today sales continue to exceed
500,000 sales worldwide each year, subsequently earning the title the best selling toy of all time .(
How Rubik s Cube ) Seen as an object of art, the Rubik s Cube brilliance is perceived to reside in its
ability to embody and symbolize the evident contrasts in the human conditions: simplicity and
complexity, order and mayhem, bewilderment and comprehension, as Ernö remarks.(Davis)
Comparably, these traits can be observed when examining the most integral parts of the cube: its
history, design and mechanics, and mathematical applications. History Puzzle makers have been

Around 1983, however, the popularity of the cube began to die down and sales slowed drastically.
That was because the cube stayed in small scale production, but that changed when Seven Towns took
over the marketing, and licensed the Rubik Cube to the Oddzon Company for the United States in
1995. Since then, sales have steadily increased to over 500,000 units a year. ( How Rubik s Cube )
Moreover, in 1980, the cube won the prestigious German Game of the Year award and similar
decoration in France, Britain, and the United States. Also, books covering the cube were
simultaneously on the New York Times best seller list. Finally, today, with more than 350 million
cubes sold and at least one billion imitations in circulation, it is the best selling toy of all time and a
true cultural icon that will forever be recognized.

Compare And Contrast The Ottomans And Ottoman Empire
During the 14th to 16th century, two main empires ruled Spain, the Ottoman and Habsburg empires.
Both empires remained standing for hundreds of years before they fell. The Ottoman Empire was an
Islamic empire with their population mainly consisting of Muslims. Founded in 1299, they lasted for
more than 600 years with more than 30 sultans before they fell. The Habsburg Empire was a Roman
Catholic centric empire founded around the 15th century and lasted for more than 400 years. Both the
Ottomans and Habsburg allowed minority groups to live in their empire under their government, but
had many restrictions that minimized the minority group s freedom. The minority groups were a big
factor in how Habsburg Spain and the Ottomans would maintain their empire. Although each Empire
employed religion as a way to maintain their empire, the Ottomans were more successful in
maintaining their empire as they used religion to create an army and gain money from the minorities.
In the Islamic ruled empire, the Ottomans relied heavily on religion when it came to maintaining their
empire as they used them to build an army using minorities and gain money for their empire them as
well. In the Ottoman Empire, Christians and Jews were considered dhimmis, as dhimmis they had
their rights protected by Ottoman law and were allowed to continue their own religious organizations,
not be forced to follow Islamic law, and have freedom of choice; this system was seen as the Ottoman
Empire s greatest

Cultural Differences In Gung Ho
In an increasingly global economy Japanese cars are manufactured in America, American cars in
Japan, and parts for both in each. Regardless of the relations existing between any two nations at any
one time. the success of international partnerships may depend on a mutual understanding. Also
respect for diversity of history, culture, language and business practices.
In Gung Ho, a Japanese automaker moves into an abandoned factory in the Midwestern town. Both
the automaker and the town s newly re employed autoworkers have an interest in making it work, but
they are at odds in terms of principles, methods and leadership styles. Misunderstandings threaten the
realization of a project both partners desperately need.
Gung ho is a Chinese term that literally means working together. The term was the slogan of Lt.
Colonel Evans F. Carlson s Marine Raiders during World War II and its meaning was expanded to
mean, enthusiastic, cooperative and enterprising.
Gung Ho is the story of a Japanese company (Assan Motors) that comes to a small American town,
Hadleyville, to reopen a car factory. Hunt Stevenson (Keaton) lures Assan to Hadleyville and is
offered an employee liaison position in the joint venture. He soon learns that the Japanese and the
Americans have very different styles of operating a company, based in large measure on differences in
cultural values. differences between collectivism affect the working relationships between the

La Casa De Bernarda Alba Essay
The House of Bernarda Alba is the third play in the trilogy knows as the Rural Trilogy alongside
Blood Wedding and Yerma by Federico GarcĂa Lorca. Garcia Lorca was a Spanish poet, playwright,
who was a member of the Generation of 27. Garcia Lorca s main themes include the tension between
social responsibility and individual freedom as well as love and tragedy. After the death of her second
husband, Bernarda Alba is locked up at home and imposes a rigorous and suffocating mourning for
eight years, forbidding her five daughters to go out into the street. When Angustias, the firstborn, and
only daughter of the first husband, inherits a fortune, attracts a young man, Pepe the Roman. The
young man gets engaged to Angustias, but at the same time ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The symbols Lorca uses are diverse; he uses the same symbols in many of his other works. According
to Sharp it was natural for him to use symbols of nature to deal with the problems concerning life and
reproduction... Black and white colors The white walls contrast with the women s mourning dresses.
The contrasts are very frequent in the work of Lorca, and in La casa de Bernarda Alba can symbolize
the dichotomy that exists between what the individual wants and what society demands, or in this case
what the daughters want and what Bernarda demands of them. White also represents purity, and black,
death. The contrast reinforces the idea of a photographic documentary, which Lorca wanted to convey.
In Lorca s works, the color green signifies rebellion and the yearning for freedom. Adela rebels
against her mother s will and dresses in green. This color also symbolizes the death for Lorca, and
indeed Adela dies at the end. Bernarda s cane is a symbol of tyrannical power and its phallic form
represents patriarchal values. Another theory is that alludes to the blindness of Bernarda to the desires
of her daughters. Throughout the play, there is a horse that furiously hits the walls of the stable
representing the masculinity and lust. Heat is present at all times and the characters constantly
mention it. It represents repressed passion. Stagnant water is used as a symbol of death. The village
has no rivers, only wells and water that moves throughout rivers is said to represent life. The moon is
considered a lorquiano symbol that represents death and seduction, in this case seduction lead to

Bipolar Disorder (BP)
Bipolar disorder (BP) is a mood disorder that is considered to affect the emotional regulation of
individuals who have it (Blaney, Krueger, Millon, 2015, p.234). Bipolar disorder is also believed to
compromise the executive functioning, attention, planning, and regulation for the individuals who
have it (Blaney, Krueger, and Millon, 2015, pp.234 235). As a consequence, BP may cause serious
adverse consequences to the individuals who have it. According to Singh and Muhammad (2006),
bipolar disorder is often unrecognized or misdiagnosed when patients are initially seen when seeking
treatment for mood symptoms. Furthermore, unrecognized or misdiagnosis of BP may lead to
ineffective treatment and increased risk of mood episodes (Consequences ... Show more content on

Often it takes a huge crisis to make a society change, says Toshihiko Hayashi, an economics professor
at Doshisha University in Tokyo, who has studied the legacies of natural disasters. For Japan, even
two lost decades after the bubble burst were not enough to fundamentally change the country s
economic and political systems. But this crisis is different. It could be the catalyst that finally changes
Japan.
These days, few would have predicted that Japan s way to renewal would be blazed by its young
people, who were supposed to have other things on their minds: nearly 1 in 10 young Japanese is
unemployed, and almost one third of university graduates get no job offers. Many more can find only
part time work.
Yet even if the new mood of sleeves rolled up volunteerism persists among young Japanese, they may
still need leadership: someone to organise where the supplies and relief efforts should go. But in today
s Japan a nation of lacklustre politicians, bureaucrats and salarymen that seems to be lacking. The sad
fact about many young people today is that if there s one person who leads the way, they will follow
and work hard, says Ayumi Yamamoto, a Tokyo graduate student who has volunteered to help
earthquake survivors as part of a newly formed group called Tohoku Rising (Tohoku is the
northeastern region that bore the brunt of the disaster). But right now

How to Plan a Family Vacation Essays
How to Plan a Family Vacation
A penny saved is a penny earned. A job worth doing is worth doing right. We apply both of these
sayings to the working world all of the time. Why not apply them to our vacationing world as well?
Like most people, I look forward to a vacation, but planning it can become overwhelming if you re not
prepared. Planning a vacation should be fun and exciting. Vacationing is not always a priority to many
families due to economic distress, but as little as a few hundred dollars you can plan a weekend

Consider your finances and what you re willing to spend. After deciding on what weekend you ll be
leaving, finding a place to stay is the next thing to plan. Most places fill up early. Make hotel, car and
other reservations as soon as you can. Quality and prices vary with each hotel. Some rates are as low
as $30 a night, while some rates are as high as $200 a night or more. Picking a room that s not in a
scenic area or without a view is usually cheaper. Each hotel offers different rates and quality. More
expensive places offer kitchenettes, suites, fireplaces, heated pools, and more. Search online for
coupon codes, AAA, AARP, Military or Government discounts. For the least expensive trip, you could
plan a camping trip in a state park, but for some that would mean a larger expense of purchasing tents,
sleeping bags and camping gear. Unless you re prepared for a camping trip, plan to stay in a hotel or
cabin.
Have a checklist prepared when packing for your trip. Know what the climate will be during the times
that you re there. Know what days or nights you ll need formal clothing, casual clothing, or swimwear.
Make sure that you pack so you re not buying needed things that you may already have at home.
Consider the amount of luggage you re taking in case you ll be flying. Pack things such as moist
towlettes, money, passports, medicine and sunglasses. Consider small children when traveling as they
become bored and wear out easily. Pack plenty

The Effect of Substrate Concentration on the Activity of...
The Effect Of Substrate Concentration On The Activity Of The Enzyme Catalase
A Level Biology Project
Aims
This is an experiment to examine how the concentration of the substrate hydrogen peroxide affects the
rate of reaction of the enzyme catalase.
Background Information
Enzymes such as Catalase are protein molecules which are found in living cells. They are used to
speed up specific reactions in the cells. They are all very specific as each enzyme just performs one
particular reaction.
Catalase is an enzyme found in food such as potato and liver. It is used for removing Hydrogen
Peroxide from the cells. Hydrogen Peroxide is the poisonous by product of metabolism. Catalase
speeds up the decomposition of Hydrogen Peroxide into water ... Show more content on

To ensure this is a fair test all the variables except for the concentration of Hydrogen Peroxide must be
kept the same for all the experiments. Variables that must not be altered include:
Temperature, yeast concentration, type of yeast, batch of yeast, volume of yeast, volume of hydrogen
peroxide, air pressure and humidity.
When measuring the volumes of Hydrogen Peroxide, Yeast and Water the measurement should be
taken by looking at the scale at an angle of 90 degrees to it to avoid any parallax error.
Predictions
I predict that as the substrate concentration increases, the rate of reaction will go up at a directly
proportional rate until the solution becomes saturated with the substrate hydrogen peroxide. When this
saturation point is reached, then adding extra substrate will make no difference.
The rate steadily increases when more substrate is added because more of the active sites of the
enzyme are being used which results in more reactions so the required amount of oxygen is made
more quickly. Once the amount of substrate molecules added exceeds the number of active sites
available then the rate of reaction will no longer go up. This is because the maximum number of
reactions are being done at once so any extra substrate molecules have to wait until some of the active
sites

Elizabeth Bennet Enlightenment
Elizabeth Bennet As An Enlightenment Figure
During the Regency Period of 19th century England, traditions and strict social standards
characterized society. The lower class were inferior to the wealthy, and the sentiment of male
superiority suppressed the potential of women. However, these standards were challenged by the Age
of Enlightenment, which occurred prior to the Regency Period and inspired the use of independent
thinking. Enlightenment figures questioned traditional authority and embraced the notion that
humanity could be improved through rational change, therefore providing the impetus for others to
diverge from set customs (History.com Staff). In Jane Austen s Pride and Prejudice, Elizabeth Bennet

Initially, she has a tendency to prematurely judge a person s character and establish an opinion of
them. Upon first meeting Mr. Darcy, she overhears a distasteful conversation between him and Mr.
Bingley, which leads her to assume that she has no very cordial feelings towards him (Austen 14).
Elizabeth s negative opinion of Mr. Darcy intensifies when Mr. Wickham tells her stories that appear
to confirm his overly prideful demeanor. Mr. Darcy, however, believes that Elizabeth is too rash in her
judgements, and says, I can readily believe [...] that reports may vary greatly with respect to me; and I
could wish Miss Bennet, that you were not to sketch my character at the present moment (Austen 92).
Darcy knows that Wickham s stories are false, but Elizabeth s flaw initially prevents her from listening
to his reasoning. She firmly turns down his first marriage proposal, claiming that she has every reason
in the world to think ill of [him] (Austen 186); however, in a subsequent letter, Darcy gives a thorough
explanation concerning Elizabeth s misgivings. After reading over his message multiple times,
Elizabeth finally realizes her mistakes. She grows absolutely ashamed of herself, and admits, Until
this moment, I never knew myself (Austen 201 202). Such profound self awareness is not often
demonstrated by other characters, and Elizabeth breaks from the conventional way of thinking by
learning how to accept and overcome her

The common foods in izakaya are yakitori, grilled beef tongue, beef tataki, tempura, butter clams,

within a three month span in 1997 all from cutting weight (Litsky). Cutting weight is when someone
will try to drastically reduce their weight in a short period of time through a variety of methods. The
deaths of these three collegiate wrestlers resulted in a hasty decision from the NCAA in an attempt to
prevent any more injuries or deaths. An article by Terry Larimer on The Morning Call explains the
that policy banned the use of rubber suits and saunas for use in weight cutting practices because they
drastically increase body temperature and dehydration, which was the root cause for the deaths of
these three wrestlers (Larimer). Larimer also explains changes the NCAA made to the weight classes,
adding a seven pound weight allowance to all of the weight classes so that athletes would not have to
lose as much weight, with the stipulation that all weigh in times for competitions would be held 2
hours prior to the event rather than 24 hours (Larimer). This rule was enacted to discourage athletes
from cutting weight on the basis that with less recovery time, losing too much weight will not be

One of the first steps involved in carrying out a preliminary investigation include understanding the
problem or opportunity in sight. The analyst must first identify which department, users and business
processes the system request is involved in to evaluate and assess the causes and effects related in the
proposed system. Defining the project scope and constraints is the second step. With clear indications
of the projects boundaries or extent the project scope is determined, while the requirements or
conditions the system must confer to or achieve determine the projects constraints. The third step in a

Persuasive Essay On The Flag
Flags are used by countries for a few reasons beyond just having something to fly in the air.
A country will spend many hours and a lot of money on their flag design because that is their
way of portraying themselves to the rest of the world. Many Americans own and display them
outside their homes, offices, and schools. The flag was there during the Revolutionary War days
and remained there after the attacks of 9/11. Flags can be unifying to a country, and many times
are. The flag makes all American citizens feel like part of a team. Our American flag is a symbol
of pride and freedom for all. The Star Spangled Banner, the national anthem, proclaims, And
the rocket s red glare / the bombs bursting in air / gave proof through the night / that our flag was
still there. Our flag flying through the smoke of warfare gave hope to all Americans, and ever
since the flag has been a symbol of that hope and unity. The flag started as a banner to celebrate
America s freedom and now stands as an icon of world diplomacy. (Online Stores, page 1). As
said before, our flag is greatly tied to freedom. Freedom is a condition in which people have the
opportunity to speak, act, and pursue happiness without unnecessary external restrictions.
Freedom is important because it leads to enhanced expressions of creativity, original thought,
increased productivity, and an overall high quality of life. The idea of freedom is complex; it
must be redefined and defended anew

Aspects of Home Schooling Essay
Aspects of Home Schooling
Do parents always know what is best for their child? When a parent says that they want to home
school their child are they making the right decision? After all, parents are the ones that teach their
children how to walk and talk. After all, they are the ones that are most interested in making sure that
their child receives the best education, why shouldn t they be the ones to teach their children? Being
home schooled can have both a positive and negative effect on a child.
One such reason why it would be beneficial for a child to be home schooled is to teach values and
morals to the child. Children often learn things at a young age that they should not know; such as

Field experiences provide learning experiences that can not be found in text books (HSLDA.com).
Also having a wide age range of students can benefit both the younger and older students, since it is
possible that both age groups can learn to appreciate each other as well as learn from one another.
There is less pressure on the student who is home schooled since they have as much time as they need
to do the assignment. If a child is ahead in their studies, they do not have to wait to other students, but
a home schooled child can move on and become more productive When a child is home schooled they
are able to go at a pace that is best for them.
However, when deciding whether to place a child in a public school or whether to home school a
child, it is best to take into account the possible cons of home schooling. The parent, now teacher,
must keep in mind that their job is to educate their child. All other career possibilities or aspirations
must be put on hold. The parent s main focus must now be on educating their child. The parent must
be willing to take out the time and energy to devote themselves to education.
Also, the curriculum has become increasingly harder over the years. Children are being taught certain
concepts must earlier than in the past. The parent must keep in mind that they may not have had the
same degree of education in each and every subject. It may

My Best Friends
From Enemies to Best Friends
First day of 7th grade was amazing! Final period came and it was computer class. We would just sit on
the computers and learn how to type fast. Once I finished I would play online games while everyone
else got into groups. I sat alone because I had recently transferred to a new school due to moving to a
new house. My first day of school finished and I had no clue how to get home, I had to remember
what my grandma told me and just trust my gut. Walking home wasn t so bad but I took the longest
way home. There was a group of girls I thought seemed nice so I followed them. They noticed me as
the new kid and asked me to come join the walk home. Coming close to home I was alone again and
there was another girl walking in front of me. I was minding my own business walking home, but she
kept looking back at me. I found it strange but I continued. When she would turn I would turn as well
and when she crossed the street I would too. It was accidental not knowing we lived close to each
other but I can tell it was making her mad and confused because she kept looking back with a mean
mug.
Finally, I was almost home and she turns a corner and right before I turn the same corner she confronts
me, why are you following me do need something? I started to laugh and roll my eyes, she didn t
know why I was laughing so she started to get really upset.
If you keep laughing we re going to have problems, she says but back then

A Brief Note On The United Kingdom And The European Kingdom
In the United Kingdom, it seems an ever increasing proportion of the population are becoming
eurosceptic. Euroscepticism in the UK is the distrust and scepticism of the relationship between the
United Kingdom and the European Union and is considered a controversial and important concept in
British Politics. This increase in Euroscepticism in the UK has contributed to an EU referendum on
the 23rd June 2016, during which the United Kingdom will either decide to continue as a member
state or to leave the European Union. Euroscepticism within the United Kingdom is an increasingly
relevant topic. I am going to explore why Euroscepticism is on the rise in the United Kingdom and
what those contributing factors are. Firstly, I will clarify the history of the relationship between the
UK and the EU, and how Euroscepticism is not a new phenomenon. I will then explain what the
contributing factors to rising Euroscepticism in the UK are in the following order; the importance of
Britain s sovereignty and independence, the Eurosceptic nature of the British media, increasing
immigration issues and terrorism threats, and the rise of anti European political parties.
Euroscepticism within the United Kingdom
Since the establishment of the European Union, the United Kingdom has always seemed to be one of
the more sceptic member states of the organisation. In 1952, after World War II, six states
compromising of Belgium, France, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands and West Germany, created

High School Jobs Research Paper
Position Paper What is your stance on college participation from high school graduates? Do you feel
that enrollment in college is necessary for a successful life? In the grand scheme of things, college is
not essential towards creating a life of success and prosperity. Beyond college is a world full of
alternative choices and options that are often overlooked. All jobs are important and necessary to the
overall function of our society. If everyone sought after a college degree, who would be left to do the
common jobs? We need to have construction workers, walmart employees, fast food employees, gas
station workers, and so on. These jobs play a significant role in everything we do. For example, the
roads we drive on didn t just magically appear. Nor did the groceries we buy or the clothes we wear.
All of these items came from people working in those lesser jobs that we overlook everyday. Nearly
64 percent of jobs don t require a college education, yet we look down on those who fill these jobs.
Just because someone partakes in a minimum job does not mean they have minimum skills. ... Show

Every year over 1.2 million students will choose to drop out of high school in the United States alone
and about 25% of all high school freshmen will not graduate in time. For these students, college is a
waste of money and time. With so many other jobs available everyone should be able to have a choice
after high school. Although this route may cause more work and hardship in the long run, students can
still live a successful life on this path. The highest paying jobs that do not require a degree pay
anywhere from $51,000 all the way to almost $80,000 per year. When we compare this to the lowest
starting salary out of college, which was found to be only $35,700, it is easy to see that either path can
be promising. However, even these are not the only two choices

  • 2. A Comparison Of Bloodletting And Miraculous Cures Generally, life can be separated into two phases: the first being the coming of age where people transition into adulthood and realize that there is not as much good in the world as there first appeared to be. The second phase is the aftermath, where people either learn to cope with the cruelties of life or simply fail. People constantly identify with and attempt to apply the concept in everyday life; yet our society has constructed a paradigm in which the perfection of your skin predetermines your social interactions in life. Likewise it is important to comprehend that it is not only on the side of society s judgements which determines your interactions, but it is also that of the lowered self esteem of the individual. To garner apposite knowledge, the task at hand required the interviewing of a person with a skin condition with the aim to internalise and reflect upon the biopsychosocial as well as cultural impacts of the illness. I was lucky enough to have the privilege of interviewing Jane Doe, a 20 year old white female with a history of psoriasis since age five. I was introduced to Jane through a close friend and entering into a professional relationship, she agreed to help me in my endeavour. Drawing on the principles of interviewing I ensured that it was a quiet, confidential and comfortable space1; thus it took place in her home. This led to the development of Laissez Faire capitalism, socialism, utilitarianism, socialism, and communism (economic). To start, technological changes were one of the main changes during the Industrial Revolution. It all started with the substitution of mechanical devices for human skills, then everything changed. Machinery was applied first in coal mining and textiles. The new machines, methods, and techniques quickly spread into other industrial areas. For example, the use of steam engines in transportation led to the railroad system, vastly increasing the speed, reliability, and amount of goods moved over long distances, converting the nation into one unified market. • 8. How to Control Huntington’s Disease Currently, there is no cure for Huntington s disease (HD) and only limited numbers of treatments are effective in controlling HD symptoms. HD a progressive neurodegenerative disorder characterized by motor disturbances, psychiatric dysfunctions, and cognitive disabilities. HD is inherited in an autosomal dominant manner, means that the inheritance of a single copy of the mutant huntingtin allele containing an expanded CAG repeat region in exon 1 ( 36 CAG repeat) causes the disease. Translation of the mutant allele mRNA yields the mutant huntingtin protein (mHtt) containing an expanded polyglutamine region near the amino terminus, which favor protein cleavage and accumulation of the N terminus in the nucleus. N terminal huntingtin affects transcription of subsets of genes. Early in HD progression, levels of the cannabinoid receptor type 1 (CB1) and dopamine receptor type 2 (D2) are reduced in the medium spiny neurons of the striatum. CB1 receptor is able to activate several signaling pathways through the activation of different G proteins as well as arrestin 2. Furthermore, compelling anatomical and physiological evidence suggests a strong interaction between the CB1 and D2 receptors. Given this interaction between CB1 and D2 receptors, drugs that block or activate either receptor will influence convergent signaling pathways. Typical and atypical antipsychotics, including haloperidol and olanzapine, respectively, are commonly prescribed to HD patients to control chorea and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 15. Drying Is A Mass And Heat Transfer Process Essay Chapter 1 : Introduction Drying is a simultaneous mass and heat transfer process that converts a liquid, solid or semi solid feedstock into a solid product having lower moisture content. This is usually done by applying heat to evaporate the liquid into a vapor phase. Sometimes drying takes place below the triple point of the liquid to be removed and the solid phase is directly converted to vapor phase via sublimation as in case of freeze drying. [1] As drying must involve a phase change of the liquid to be removed, it is considered as one of the most energy intensive unit operations. This is due to the high latent heat of vaporization, as well as, the inefficiency of using hot air as the most common drying medium. Hence, the operating cost of dryers represents their major cost item. Drying is an important process in many fields such as chemical, agricultural, ceramics and pharmaceutical industries. It may be done to have free flowing solids that are easy to handle, to facilitate the preservation and storage of different materials, to reduce the transportation costs or to achieve desired quality of products. [2] Regeneration of adsorptive beds is an important drying application. The operation of such beds includes three periods. During the first period adsorption takes place till breakthrough. This is followed by steaming period where live steam is blown through the bed to remove the adsorbate from the solid desiccant. In the third period; regeneration period, the hot, moist ... • 26. La Casa De Bernarda Alba Essay The House of Bernarda Alba is the third play in the trilogy knows as the Rural Trilogy alongside Blood Wedding and Yerma by Federico GarcĂa Lorca. Garcia Lorca was a Spanish poet, playwright, who was a member of the Generation of 27. Garcia Lorca s main themes include the tension between social responsibility and individual freedom as well as love and tragedy. After the death of her second husband, Bernarda Alba is locked up at home and imposes a rigorous and suffocating mourning for eight years, forbidding her five daughters to go out into the street. When Angustias, the firstborn, and only daughter of the first husband, inherits a fortune, attracts a young man, Pepe the Roman. The young man gets engaged to Angustias, but at the same time ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The symbols Lorca uses are diverse; he uses the same symbols in many of his other works. According to Sharp it was natural for him to use symbols of nature to deal with the problems concerning life and reproduction... Black and white colors The white walls contrast with the women s mourning dresses. The contrasts are very frequent in the work of Lorca, and in La casa de Bernarda Alba can symbolize the dichotomy that exists between what the individual wants and what society demands, or in this case what the daughters want and what Bernarda demands of them. White also represents purity, and black, death. The contrast reinforces the idea of a photographic documentary, which Lorca wanted to convey. In Lorca s works, the color green signifies rebellion and the yearning for freedom. Adela rebels against her mother s will and dresses in green. This color also symbolizes the death for Lorca, and indeed Adela dies at the end. Bernarda s cane is a symbol of tyrannical power and its phallic form represents patriarchal values. Another theory is that alludes to the blindness of Bernarda to the desires of her daughters. Throughout the play, there is a horse that furiously hits the walls of the stable representing the masculinity and lust. Heat is present at all times and the characters constantly mention it. It represents repressed passion. Stagnant water is used as a symbol of death. The village has no rivers, only wells and water that moves throughout rivers is said to represent life. The moon is considered a lorquiano symbol that represents death and seduction, in this case seduction lead to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

For Japan, even two lost decades after the bubble burst were not enough to fundamentally change the country s economic and political systems. But this crisis is different. It could be the catalyst that finally changes Japan. These days, few would have predicted that Japan s way to renewal would be blazed by its young people, who were supposed to have other things on their minds: nearly 1 in 10 young Japanese is unemployed, and almost one third of university graduates get no job offers. Many more can find only part time work. Yet even if the new mood of sleeves rolled up volunteerism persists among young Japanese, they may still need leadership: someone to organise where the supplies and relief efforts should go. But in today s Japan a nation of lacklustre politicians, bureaucrats and salarymen that seems to be lacking. The sad fact about many young people today is that if there s one person who leads the way, they will follow and work hard, says Ayumi Yamamoto, a Tokyo graduate student who has volunteered to help

The Effect Of Substrate Concentration On The Activity Of The Enzyme Catalase A Level Biology Project Aims This is an experiment to examine how the concentration of the substrate hydrogen peroxide affects the rate of reaction of the enzyme catalase. Background Information Enzymes such as Catalase are protein molecules which are found in living cells. They are used to speed up specific reactions in the cells. They are all very specific as each enzyme just performs one particular reaction. Catalase is an enzyme found in food such as potato and liver. It is used for removing Hydrogen Peroxide from the cells. Hydrogen Peroxide is the poisonous by product of metabolism. Catalase speeds up the decomposition of Hydrogen Peroxide into water ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... To ensure this is a fair test all the variables except for the concentration of Hydrogen Peroxide must be kept the same for all the experiments. Variables that must not be altered include: Temperature, yeast concentration, type of yeast, batch of yeast, volume of yeast, volume of hydrogen peroxide, air pressure and humidity. When measuring the volumes of Hydrogen Peroxide, Yeast and Water the measurement should be taken by looking at the scale at an angle of 90 degrees to it to avoid any parallax error. Predictions I predict that as the substrate concentration increases, the rate of reaction will go up at a directly proportional rate until the solution becomes saturated with the substrate hydrogen peroxide. When this saturation point is reached, then adding extra substrate will make no difference. The rate steadily increases when more substrate is added because more of the active sites of the enzyme are being used which results in more reactions so the required amount of oxygen is made more quickly. Once the amount of substrate molecules added exceeds the number of active sites available then the rate of reaction will no longer go up. This is because the maximum number of reactions are being done at once so any extra substrate molecules have to wait until some of the active sites ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Larimer also explains changes the NCAA made to the weight classes, adding a seven pound weight allowance to all of the weight classes so that athletes would not have to lose as much weight, with the stipulation that all weigh in times for competitions would be held 2 hours prior to the event rather than 24 hours (Larimer). Once I finished I would play online games while everyone else got into groups. I sat alone because I had recently transferred to a new school due to moving to a new house. My first day of school finished and I had no clue how to get home, I had to remember what my grandma told me and just trust my gut. Walking home wasn t so bad but I took the longest way home. There was a group of girls I thought seemed nice so I followed them. They noticed me as the new kid and asked me to come join the walk home. Coming close to home I was alone again and there was another girl walking in front of me. I was minding my own business walking home, but she kept looking back at me. I found it strange but I continued. When she would turn I would turn as well and when she crossed the street I would too. It was accidental not knowing we lived close to each other but I can tell it was making her mad and confused because she kept looking back with a mean mug. Finally, I was almost home and she turns a corner and right before I turn the same corner she confronts me, why are you following me do need something? I started to laugh and roll my eyes, she didn t know why I was laughing so she started to get really upset. If you keep laughing we re going to have problems, she says but back then ... Euroscepticism within the United Kingdom is an increasingly relevant topic. I am going to explore why Euroscepticism is on the rise in the United Kingdom and what those contributing factors are. Firstly, I will clarify the history of the relationship between the UK and the EU, and how Euroscepticism is not a new phenomenon. I will then explain what the contributing factors to rising Euroscepticism in the UK are in the following order; the importance of Britain s sovereignty and independence, the Eurosceptic nature of the British media, increasing immigration issues and terrorism threats, and the rise of anti European political parties. Euroscepticism within the United Kingdom Since the establishment of the European Union, the United Kingdom has always seemed to be one of the more sceptic member states of the organisation. All of these items came from people working in those lesser jobs that we overlook everyday. Nearly 64 percent of jobs don t require a college education, yet we look down on those who fill these jobs.
