The, National Museum Of African Art
On October 9, 2015 I went to the Smithsonian, National Museum of African Art along with attending
the Million Man March down in Washington D.C. The experiences were wonderful and I was very
excited to be at both events. While at the museum I took two tours one at 10 am that was led by a
woman named Nkechi Obi. She talked about docent African Arts. The next one was shortly after at11
am that was led by a teen ambassador named Nicholas Stewart, who was very intelligent. He talked
about numerous pieces throughout the museum that had some significance to younger minds so I
found that very helpful. After the tour I spent some time down at the mall in DC in which faced the
Capitol. This was the Million Man March that was a very popular event that brought out many people.
I would describe both events as lectures that were powerful and time put to good use. The reason I
chose to go to the African Art Museum is because I have been there before and I enjoy my time when I
go. The tours at the museum consisted of talks about certain pieces in the museum that fell in a
category the tourist wanted to focus on. Nkechi Obi was my first tour guide and the title of her tour
was Docent African Arts . Her goal throughout the tour was to show pieces of artwork that showed

I call this practice reflexive embodied empathy .
To define and explicate this concept, I start by exploring some of the literature on empathy. There is an
extensive empirical literature on empathy in the fields of neuroscience (see Thompson, 2001) and
social psychology (see Davis, 1994). However, I confine my discussion here to the equally extensive
(though sometimes overlooked) literature from phenomenology. Here, I draw on a range of theoretical
ideas but the philosophical ideas of Husserl (1928/1989) on intersubjectivity and of Merleau Ponty
(1964/1968) on embodiment as intertwining are particularly influential. While the focus in this
literature review is on empathy, concepts related to embodiment and reflexivity are integral.
The literature review is followed by an analysis of the concept of reflexive embodied empathy in
practice. I use three examples of significant moments from various hermeneutic phenomenological
research projects to demonstrate reflexive analysis of my own embodied, intersubjective relationships
with participants. I characterize these moments of reflective involvement with the data as fluid,
interpermeating layers whereby different dimensions of experience are called to the fore. Three co

Although the industry is beneficial from a life cycle assessment point of view, over the years it has
gravitated toward countries with low labor costs, weak regulations on occupational safety, and limited
environmental enforcement. The global shift in the industry to countries with comparatively weaker
regulatory systems is of particular concern as ships contain many hazards that can have significant
detrimental effects on humans and the environment if not dealt with properly.
Currently, the global center of the ship breaking and recycling industry is located in South Asia,
specifically Bangladesh, India, and Pakistan. These three countries account for 70 80 percent of the
international market for ship breaking of ocean going vessels, with China and Turkey accounting for
most of the rest. Only about 5 percent of the global volume of such vessels is scrapped outside these
five countries.
This study focuses on the SBRI in Bangladesh and Pakistan to get a better understanding of the

economics of the industry and the environmental impacts arising out of such activity and to explore
possible ways in which such environmental effects may be mitigated.

There are many credible resources and witnesses that have seen him or know people that have seen
this strange moth like creature. A woman named Mrs. Bennett claimed, it seemed like it had been
lying down, slowly rising up from the ground, large and gray, with glowing red eyes. While Wamsley
phoned the police, the creature walked onto the porch and peered in at them through the window
(Storyteller). People have taken photographs of this creature. A man driving in Point Pleasant spotted
and photographed what appears to be Mothman (Seaburn). A man walking on State Route 2 on a
Sunday evening saw a strange creature jumping from tree to tree and appeared to be flying so the man
took photos of the creature. There is no proof that the photos were not altered with. He said I
definitely know the Mothman is real (Pierson). A dog went missing after he chased after the Mothman.
He was a coon hunting dog and when he saw the Mothman he ran after it. The dog s owner tried
calling for the dog and the dog never called back or showed back up to the house. Another couple that
saw the Mothman drove by a dead dog on State Route 62. Mothman is said to be the culprit of the
dogs
