Zombies Of Toronto Summary
Response Paper for Zombies of Toronto The journal article The Zombies of Toronto was published
in 2010 and deals with the famous Toronto zombie walk. According to Dr. Bryce Peake, the
zombie walk is a modern trend in which thousands of people gather together to flood the streets,
clothed and painted as zombies. The first impression one might gain, seems a little ridiculous, but
behind thus masquerade is a serious background hidden. Ontario becomes once a year the setting of
the notorious zombiewalk. Thousand of actors flood the streets to perform their vision of the
impending apocalypse, foreshadowed by the signs of increased global violence (65). The first
recorded zombie walk took place in 2001, but since 2003 Toronto is the capital of the zombie
walk cities. Evolving over the years, it has become a global phenomenon and resembles for most
participants [...] an implicit and explicit critique of war and violence, taking... Show more content

During the atomic age, the zombie was born, as a new monster that resembled Cold War
anxieties. One of the most known fears was the fear of the spread of communism in the United
States that would [turn] citizens into mindless hordes. Nowadays, zombies have developed and
are not stupid and slow as shown in the first zombie movies, but they are smart and fast today.
The perfect killing machines. Zombies can be compared to terrorist sects and sleeper cells [...]
(66). The zombie walked represents insecurity in a culture, about who we are, who the enemy is,
and whether s/he is us. The zombie walk helps participants to express their feelings about cultural
anxieties related to death and warfare. The destructive force of zombies is detectible in modern
anxieties over terrorism and worldwide war. Here, zombies walks have a deep meaning. They act

Electronic Communication by President Abraham Lincoln
What became of our forces which held the bridge till twenty minutes ago...? The President of the
United States telegraphed a colonel in the field during the Civil War Battle of Second Manassas
(Bull Run) in 1862. Abraham Lincoln was using the new medium of electronic communications in
an unprecedented manner to revolutionize the nature of national leadership.
When Lincoln arrived for his inauguration in 1861 there was not even a telegraph line to the War
Department, much less the White House. Storm clouds were brewing, but when the US Army
wanted to send a telegram they did like everyone else: sending a clerk with a hand written message
to stand in line at Washington s central telegraph office. That unwieldy situation changed rapidly,
however, as wires were strung to the War Department and other key installations. The White House,
however, remained without any outside connection.
The national leaders were like their constituents in their understanding of electronic
communications. While an interesting and growing technology, the telegraph s potential was still
widely underappreciated and it certainly had never been tested in a time of crisis. This reality
makes Lincoln s subsequent embrace of the new technology even more remarkable. Without the
guidance of precedent, and in the middle of a battle for the nation s survival, Abraham Lincoln used
the new electronic communications to transform the nature of the presidency. The telegraph
became a tool of his leadership

Parasite-Host Relationships
Organisms in an ecosystem have relationships with individuals of their own species, individuals of
different species, and non living resources. A group of different species living within an ecosystem
is called a community. The relationships within a community of organisms can be grouped into
different types of interactions, including predator prey relationships and symbiotic relationships.
An animal that hunts and eats other animals is called a predator. The animal that gets eaten is
called a prey animal. Predator prey relationships involve both adaptations of the predator to catch
the prey and adaptations of the prey to avoid the predator. Population sizes are also connected to this
relationship. When a prey population changes, the predator ... Show more content on

These are relationships in which individuals live close to each other for extended periods of time.
In a parasite host relationship, one organism benefits at the expense of the other organism.
Typically, the host organism is not killed by the parasite. A tick attaching itself to a deeris an
example of a parasite host relationship. The tick is the parasite, and the deer is the host.
In symbiotic mutualism, the two organisms benefit each other. A good example is the relationship
between some ants and acacia trees. Acacia trees have large thorns that the ants can hollow out and
live inside. The trees also excrete sweet nectar that feeds the resident ants. In return, the ants benefit
the acacia tree by attacking any insects that attempt to eat the tree.
Commensalism refers to a relationship in which one organism benefits and the other organism is
not significantly affected. The relationship between cattle and birds called cattle egrets is a good
example of commensalism. As cattle graze in grasslands, they disturb many insects that hide among
the grasses. Egrets follow the cattle and eat the insects that are disturbed by the grazing cattle. The
egrets benefit, but the cattle are not significantly affected by this

Essay On Why I Want To Attend College
Like many immigrants, my parents moved to Canada, from China, in order to give me a better
life, and lessen the burden on my future by providing me with better opportunities. As the oldest
child in my family, I will be the first to attend university. I received an early admission to McGill
University for their Bachelor of Science program; I will be majoring in either biochemistry,
physiology, or psychology. My aspirations at McGill Universitystems from its top medical
doctorate programs, its intensive focus on research, and the overall liberal and accepting belief

I could not cover on my own, especially residence and living costs. Receiving this scholarship
will allow me to focus on my studies, as well, take away the financial burden on my parents. As a
young child, I always valued independence and feared being a burden to those around me,
especially those that I care for. During my education, I will continue to seek opportunities for

Causes And Disadvantages Of Internet Addiction Essay
Nowadays, the Internet is one of the most important means of modern technology, which occupies
and invades minds and souls. This technology is exploited by some to satisfy their curiosity, to
learn about new discoverers, and to be challenged by adventures and to satisfy other desires.
Despite the privileges it has brought to people s lives, the Internethowever has its own
disadvantages. Internet addictionis one of the most dangerous and frightening problems that has

are one of the effects of being addicted to the internet. The long time spent in front of the computer

The Struggle Of Democratic Peace
Although countries in South America are not democratic for most of the last century, it has the
fewest inter state wars there, which can be explained by geopolitics with balance of power, the
trade off between benefits and costs, and relations among countries in this area.
According to the theory of Democratic Peace, since democratic leaders have a larger wining
coalitions, in order to keep in office, they need to gain support from selectorate, and democratic
leaders facing with war are more inclined to shift extra resources into the war effort than are
autocrats . In addition to trying harder, democrats are more selective in their choice of targets and
democrats only initiate wars they expect to win. As a generalization, it is an empirical law that
democracies do not fight wars with one another . On the contrary, with a small winning coalition,
non democrats leaders are facing less risk of being deposed than are their democratic counterparts ,
therefore, they are not constrained by the selectorate and they are inclined to choose war when the
expected benefit is larger than the cost of conflict, or larger than the benefit from negotiation. This
may lead to the conclusion that non democrats are more likely to have conflicts with other countries.
However, when we look at South America, despite the differences between some of the continent s
countries, it has not experienced full scale interstate warfare in over 80 years . This is puzzling,
since the

The Garden Lodge by Willa Cather
Cather s The Garden Lodge is about a woman named Caroline Noble whose husband, Howard,
asked her if she would like to demolish their old garden lodge and replace it with a summer
house. The conflict in the story is Caroline is not sure if she wants to knock down the old garden
lodge because it brings back memories of when opera singer Raymond d Esquerre, spent a month at
their place. The resolution is that Caroline decides to go on with building the summer house and
demolishing the garden lodge. The author uses flashback to explain how Caroline grew up and also
when she reminiscences about her time with Raymond. The characters in The Garden Noble are
both flat and round characters, who help characterize Caroline throughout the story,... Show more

Cather made the social environment more important than anything else that involves the setting.
The author uses the highly used point of view third person limited omniscient, getting into the
main characters, Caroline s, thoughts and touching on her feelings: She had an angry feeling
that she had done it rather in self defiance... (3). This point of view helps to get an idea of what
Caroline thinks about everything around her especially the lodge. Cather puts one important
symbol in the story that explains everything. The garden lodge is a literary symbol that stands
for Caroline s past and what she has gained from ridding of that point of time. D Esquerre
coming to live with them in the lodge and bringing back her enjoyment of music made her feel
like she was like her father, holding on to something that will not move her further in life. She
would go into the lodge ...for a quiet time every day during the two weeks since d Esquerre had
left them (3) and felt ashamed of doing so. She felt, finally, in the end that it was best to get rid
of the lodge. It was like a piece of her past that was yet to be removed and that, in her mind, her
love of music would lead her back to poverty. She did not want to think about that, so she removed
they one thing that kept her with that mind set. The theme of the story is poverty clouds a person
mind of the appreciation of something special. Cather s style persist of a good use of

Surprised By Hope Analysis
In the book Surprised by Hope by N. T. Wright, he discusses salvation, the new creation, what our
bodies will be like after Christ returns. Will the heavens come down to earth or will humans go up
to heaven? These are all points that Christians need to ask themselves and begin to think about. He
lays these topics out in clear, concise ways so the reader can comprehend what his points are. All
throughout his book, the theme of a new heavenand new earth are constantly being thrown around.
Wright uses Philippians 3:20 that says, But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a
Savior from there, the Lord JesusChrist to back up his claim that ... (he) will come from heaven to
earth, to change the present situation and state of his... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to Wright, they will be immortal. He puts it like this, In particular, this new body will
be immortal. That is, it will have passed beyond death not just in the temporal sense but also the
ontological sense of no longer being subject to sickness, injury, decay, and death itself (160) This
means that we are going to have stronger, healthier, more perfect bodies that God will give us as
a gift of love. We may not even look the same, something will be different about our bodies. In
fact, when Jesus was resurrected from the dead the disciples did not recognize him. This was a
man whom they had worked for years with and for, yet they did not recognize him in the new
body. Wright claims that this immorality is different than the common idea of immorality. He
says that people believe immorality has to do with souls, not bodies. After I read this, I
immediately disagreed with that, because I have only thought of immorality of souls living
forever, not bodies. After I had thought over this statement a bit more, I found myself agreeing
with it. In fact, 2 Corinthians 5:4 says, While we live in these earthly bodies, we groan and sigh,
but it s not that we want to die and get rid of these bodies that clothe us. Rather, we want to put
on our new bodies so that these dying bodies will be swallowed up by life. I knew that verse, yet
I still never made the connections in my head. While our earthly bodies do not go up to heaven,
I believe our souls do until the Lord returns and then we will be raised with our new bodies. If we
die before the Lord returns, then we will be with the Lord in heaven, yet not complete until he
returns to the earth. One thing that Wright says that I do not agree with is, ...immortality is
something that only God possesses by nature and that then he shares, as a gift of grace rather than
an innate possession, with his people (161). I believe that everyone will live forever,

Roman Republic And The Roman Empire
Roman Republic, one of the most famous republic in ancient time, established a form of
government comprising three main parts: a few magistrates, a Senate, and several assemblies.
Roman Republic was the period of ancient Roman civilization starting with the collapse of the
Roman Kingdom in 509 BC, and ended in 27 BC with the founding of the Roman Empire. The
government had representatives selected by citizen and ended because of the civil war between
powerful generals including Antony and Brutus. The Roman Republic was established in 509
B.C. BC after overthrowing the Etruscan kings. As democracy was getting started in Athens,
the Roman aristocrats (the rich) wanted to get rid of Etruscan kings so they can get more
power. They needed the poor men to fight for them. So they promised the poor men that they
would be given power in the new government, if they can help get rid of the Etruscan kings. The
poor men decided to help, and together the king was threw out in 510 B.C. But once the kings
were out, the rich did not give the poor men what they had promised. So the poor men protested
and went on strike. The Roman aristocrats had to make a concession, and they let the poor vote.
People in Roman Republic voted for representatives who express their opinion like the way
United States does. But the only people who could be elected to the Roman Senate were the rich
people. Then the poor made the aristocrats agree that the poor men could also elect tribunes, who
can say no to any

Glycogen In Muscle And Liver Tissue Lab Report
Post Mortem Presence of Glycogen in Muscle and Liver Tissue
Background
There are four main classes of macromolecules: carbohydrates, lipids, proteins and nucleic acids.
For this experiment the main focus will go to the carbohydrates, more specifically the
polysaccharides. Polysaccharides consist of three or more sugar molecules linked together (
macromolecules ) or one sugar derivative are called homopolysaccharides.( polysaccharides 1)
Homopolysaccharides are glucose that includes glycogen and starch, which is the storage of
carbohydrates in animals and plants.( polysaccharides 2) During the second lab of this course, one
of the technique to determine if something had polysaccharides in it was using the Iodine test.
Starch and glycogen units have a unique geometry that is different from cellulose and chitin which
have ОІ 1,4 bonds. ( macromolecules ) The specific geometry of the link in starch and glycogen

Glycogen is indicated by the colour change of iodine from brown to dark blue. Both the muscle
and liver tissue will be tested in the same manner. First, 0.5 grams of tissue will be cut finely with
a scalpel and then transferred to a test tube. Next, the test tube will be filled with 10 mL of distilled
water and 0.1 mL of an iodine solution. Lastly, the solution shall be decanted from the test tube into
a cuvette and its reflection tested with a photospectrometer that has been calibrated to a distilled
water and iodine solution. If the solution contains glycogen, the photospectrometer will show a
reflection peak in the blue/purple spectrum of light (400nm 500nm). If glycogen is not present in
solution no peaks should be present in the 400nm 500nm wavelength as the photospectrometer was
normed to a distilled water and iodine solution. All of the tests will be performed three times per
tissue

Emotional Analysis Of The Old Spice Scent Vacation...
We all know a person who looks very confident and put together on the outside, but a
conversation with them reveals that much is lacking in their personality. Similarly, commercials
can appear fun or exciting, but upon further inspection it is greatly lacking in depth. Because of
this, creating commercials is a balance between providing information and keeping the viewers
engaged. The process isn t simply writing a script containing only style and no substance, or one
with only substance and no style. With the former, a commercial could capture the audience s
attention, but provides no supporting information; the latter, provides an excessive amount of
information, but does not seize the viewers. Creating commercials pines for the utmost balance;
if the balance is off by a fraction, it could mean the difference between a million dollars or zero.
The Old Spice Scent Vacation commercial sits atop the pinnacle of this balance. It was made to
advertise their new collection of scents ranging from the scenic beaches of Fiji to the snowy peak
of Denali (Mt. McKinley). The commercial illustrates this balance through the use of emotional
appeals, imagery, and appeals to authority and credibility to convince people of the outlandish
benefits of switching to Old Spice, in terms of confidence and sexual appeal.
Old Spice s use of appealing to certain emotions carries strong effects in this commercial. It evokes
a multitude of feelings, anywhere from anger to lust to joy. The commercial

How Does Gram-Negative Bacteria Structure
Gram negative bacteria structure
The lipid A palmitoyltransferase pagP is an outer membrane enzyme of the gram negative bacteria
Escherichia coli. Gram negative bacteria are surrounded by two lipid bilayer membranes, which
enclose the periplasmic space composed of peptidoglycan that contains ions and proteins. The two
membranes differ in composition and function. With respect to composition, the inner or
cytoplasmic membrane is composed of phospholipids, such as phosphatidylethanolamine,
phospatidylglycerol and cardiolipin found in both the inner and outer leaflet. The outer membrane
is highly asymmetric with its inner leaflet having the same phospholipid composition as the inner

In order for the bacteria to establish a successful attachment on the host surfaces, they need to have
an adaptation ability towards external changes. Certain cellular regulators transmit signals from the
exterior to the inner part of the cell via cytoplasmic secondary messenger systems or so called
alomers. In bacteria this function is performed by the 3 ,5 cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cAMP)
which is an ubiquitous molecule found in both eukaryotes and prokaryotes. The cAMP targets its
receptor, the cAMP receptor protein (CRP) and this CRP cAMP complex formed binds to the
DNA in order to activate the expression of genes that code for enzymes responsible for the
supply of energy of the cell, besides the cAMP is a derivative of ATP independent of glucose. It
is studied that the CRP cAMP is a global regulator of gene expression of almost 200 operons in
E.coli. Type 1 fimbriation is dependent on growth phase and it is found that CRP cAMP
regulates type 1 fimbriae expression during the exponential growth phase. CRP and cAMP levels
are influenced by environmental conditions mainly by glucose availability and osmolarity. These
particular conditions affect also the DNA topology in E. coli. There are others global regulators,
expect the CRP cAMP, found that affect the type 1 fimbriae expression such as the H NS, the RpoS

Developmental Appropriate Practices And Jean Piaget s Theory
The centers I created focus on physical development and social development. The first center I

For Dap (developmental appropriate practices) is important because it gives teachers/caregivers
knowledge about their students development so they can create a lesson or activity that is
suitable for the age and stage of development for each of their students. Both the centers I created
are for kids around the ages 3 5. So the sand and water table and art show activities are age
appropriate. When it comes to my individual goals, will follow the dap guidelines and observe the
students exploring the materials and tools. Then document and place in individual portfolios
following the same guidelines. When doing research on Jean Piaget s theory, his theory has 4
stages. These stages are, The Sensorimotor Stage: During this stage, infants and toddlers acquire
knowledge through sensory experiences and manipulating objects. At this point in development, a
child s intelligence consists of their basic motor and sensory explorations of the world. The
Preoperational Stage: At this stage, kids learn through pretend play but still struggle with logic and
taking the point of view of other people. They also often struggle with understanding the ideal of
constancy. The Concrete Operational Stage: Kids at this point of development begin to think more
logically, but their thinking can also be very rigid. They tend to struggle with abstract and
hypothetical concepts. The Formal Operational Stage: The final stage of Piaget s theory involves
an increase in logic, the ability to use deductive reasoning, and an understanding of abstract ideas.
At this point, people become capable of seeing multiple potential solutions to problems and think
more scientifically about the world around them (Cherry). My activities follow the sensorimotor
stage. My students will be exploring certain materials and will start to manipulate objects. For
myself, teaching provides an opportunity for continual learning

Abuse In Nursing Home Abuse
Unfortunately, the dependent condition of most nursing home residents makes them especially
vulnerable to all types of abuse. Aside from physical violence and neglect there are a number of
ways a loved one may be mistreated while in the care of a nursing home provider. The following
list explains the various ways in which nursing home abuse may present itself: Physical Abuse. o
Physical abuse is the intentional use of force against a senior citizen that results in bodily injury or
even death. This is the most apparent type of nursing home abuse to detect especially where
relatives visit the facility often Examples of physical abuse include: unnecessary use of restraints or
confinement, assault and battery, dropping patients, using force to assist patients, shoving or
knocking a patient down, hitting, biting, scratching, hair pulling, deliberate and inappropriate use
of drugs, breaking bones, or any act of violence directed towards the elderly that results in physical
harm. Injuries that may result from such abuse include: broken bones, internal injuries, burns,
overdoses, concussions, welts, marks, choking, bruises, black eyes, or sprains. In extreme cases
such abuse can result in coma or even the untimely death of a resident. Psychological Abuse. o
Psychological abuse is much harder to detect given nursing home residents rarely talk about it or
report it. Such is true given nursing home residents may be afraid of their caregivers and reluctant
to talk about the issues

The Fire Of Free Thinking
By adding to old ideas and infusing our own thinking we have created a new young American
culture. Everyone generation does, so while we are not unique in the creation, ours is somewhat
different than our recent counterparts. It is fairly difficult to describe, but with our situation and
thought process has led to a rise in individualistic thinking. The fire of free thinking has been
intensely fanned by social media that has driven its movement to become much larger than it may
have been otherwise. These ideas have mixed with most of the classic American beliefs to give us
the environment that we have now.
Our individualism is spearheaded by our new bravery and willingness to be different. Years ago
much of the emphasis was placed on fitting in the social structure comfortably and being similar to
your peers. In our time it isn t looked down on to be different and in many ways it is almost
encouraged. It is now thought that you don t want to be the same as the people around you in all
ways and this rational has helped to create more independent young people.
This is a positive thing in many ways, most notably being the growth in free thinking. We are now
comfortable developing our own thoughts and perception. We don t as easily accept others thoughts
without thinking them through first by ourselves. This creates more young people who will end up
being critical and deep thinkers in the future and these are the people that have a real opportunity to
change the world. We must

The Motivation Of Iago In Shakespeare s Othello
Iago is a very cynical man with only one goal: to become a lieutenant. He does absolutely
anything to get to that position and does not let anyone get in his way From the start he is not
very fond of the book s main character, Othello. What grows his hatred for Othello is when
Othello gives the promotion of lieutenant to Cassio and not him. This sparks a rage inside of him
which he then starts to form a plan to overthrow both Cassio and Othelloand get that title that he so

Turner Falls Park Research Paper
Turner Falls Park Six years ago, my family and I went to Turner Falls Park in Davis, Oklahoma.
We arrived at the park early in the morning and got ready to go swimming. I went to the restroom
and got changed. When we were ready, we left to go swimming we walked on a bridge to get to
the swimming area, there was a huge waterfall and we went swimming under it. After that we
went to another swimming area that had two big slides, we swam there for about and hour then
went to our camping area to eat. The next day we went hiking on trails and also went to a castle
that was made of stone. We spent the rest of the day swimming and looking around the park. It

title from the start, being quite violent as a prosecutor. However, his role is not much
demanding, and in that fashion, he does have the chance to show his multilayered talent. Gang

most of his popularity to his looks rather than his acting talent. Lee Il hyeon took advantage of

Is Us Military Becoming Outdated
In a 2015 article, Is U.S. military becoming outdated? written by Stuart Bradin, Keenan Yoho, and
Meaghan Keeler Pettigrew, the authors argued that despite the U.S. military maintaining a position
of global dominance without peer during conventional operations, it is not the ideal force against
current and future threats. The authors claim that there are several negative factors arising due to
the past sixteen years of war against several state and non state elements, inferior cultural
differences of government bureaucracycompared to commercial firms, and a misallocation of
defense spending that leaves the US militarywaging war inefficiently while simultaneously losing
technological dominance against current and future threats.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Night vision devices, increasingly cheap and prolific, has also reduced US military dominance,
regressing US combat power back to the days of the Vietnam Conflict where the Viet Cong owned
the night. Social media, stable and available to all, also allows the enemy advanced warning of US
activities by way of not only their own organic capacity but that of neutral or unknowing elements
who just want to be the first to identify something new and exciting to anyone willing to listen or
watch. The authors also correctly identified the inferior culture of the US bureaucracy in
comparison to more agile commercial firms. While performing relatively slowly, rigidly, and
inefficiently, the bureaucracy would continue as normal until it finds itself outmaneuvered and
outgunned by more agile threats. Moreover, within the US bureaucracy, the few leaders who are
capable of revolutionary thinking are often marginalized and buried by the more conservative
thinkers. Successful commercial firms, on the other hand, have proven to perform more quickly
and efficiently through the correct allocation of resources. This can be seen in the most successful
firms to include Apple, Google, and Amazon with a much more streamlined and less risk averse as
well as profitable cultures. Contrary to the acceptable evidence that the authors provided by

Breaking The Law In Antigone
Antigone Essay The government has always controlled the way the people live by making laws
that gives the people rights, resources, and protection. The government provides protection to the
people to protect them from crime and criminals in the country. There are some people who
disagree with certain laws because they feel like they are not treated the same as other people in
the same society or feel the law is unjustified. The people protest by breaking the law to make
their point to the government. This action is not the right way to confront the government about
their laws. The message in Antigone is when people obey the government and its laws, that will
lead to the people having the right to peacefully disagree with those laws because the people
preserve their governments protection. The play Antigone takes place after the deaths of
Antigone`s brothers. Antigone wanted her brother Polynices, who died in war to be properly
buried. Polynice was the king, but he was replaced by Creon and he order that Polynices will not
be properly buried. This order makes Antigone very upset, so she decided to bury her brother
herself. Antigone is then caught and is sent to king Creon for her action. Antigone believed that

The First Crusade And The Crusade
In deciding the course of history in medieval Europe, one of the most influential events was the
First Crusade. The events that occurred set in motion a fundamental change in European society,
religion, and politics, and the ramifications have been thoroughly examined. In spite of the
significant body of scholarship on this crusade, and the extensive documentation from medieval
sources, many elements of the First Crusadestill are debated or remain uncertain. One such aspect
is the role that religion and sincere piety played in the motivations of the crusaders and in the call
for crusade itself. From a modern perspective, it is not difficult to see the crusade as being the
product of opportunistic politics, and for the crusaders... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The actions of Pope Urban II in calling for a military pilgrimage were deeply political, but he
was also informed by religious concerns and worries over the moral integrity of Latin
Christendom in his decision. A major political dimension that manifests with Urban II preaching
the First Crusade is a unification of the Eastern and Western churches.1 While Urban II s address
at Clermont does not specifically address this aim, there is some body of evidence to support
this as a political aspiration such as how Urban II had been contacted by envoys of the emperor
Alexius, who requested military aid.2 While accounts of the address made at Clermont vary, most
address the recent loss of territory the Byzantine Empire had experienced, and the depredations
made against Eastern Christians. The account made by Baldric of Dol has Urban II address that
your own blood brothers, your companions, your associates (for you are sons of the same Christ
and the same church) are either subjected in their inherited homes to other masters, or are driven
from them, or they come as beggars among us .3 With the focus on the plight of Eastern Christians,
however, there is still a spiritual element present the crusade becomes a moral imperative, to stop
the depredations of infidels in the holy spaces of Christianity. While the support of the Byzantine

My Love For Music Started
The Delicate Music
My love for music began before I was even born. In the womb, I listened to music. My mom was
like any typical first baby mom, that lets their baby listen to classical and instrumental music. I
listened that beautiful, delicate music, before I set foot on this earth. I loved all the sound of
instruments deep and high play together, to make a masterpiece. This is when my love for music
started to bloom.
When I reached about 5th grade, we had to choose what type of ensemble we wanted to be apart

that I blow less air, to get a better sound. I position my lips back on to the mouthpiece, and blew a
less amountq of air, so I wouldn t get that volger sound again. Then I heard it. My first note! The
sound trickled from the instrument into the room, filling it with my beautiful sound. Suddenly,
that sound formed it that horrific squeak I heard the first time. I giggled harder, and so did the

hallucinations and various disturbances in behavioural, emotional and intellectual perception.
Schizophrenia is often linked to an irregular balance of dopaminein the brain and defects of the
frontal lobe (The American Heritage medical dictionary, 2007). The symptoms of schizophreniacan

To treat these psychoses, anti psychotic medication is prescribed. Anti psychotic medication
works by binding to a specific receptor in the brain, known as dopamine receptor D2 (Kapur,
2000). By blocking this receptor, symptoms of psychosis are controlled. As symptoms of
stimulant psychosis are very similar to the positive symptoms of schizophrenia, anti psychotic
medication is the preferred medication to treat affected individuals. Two types of anti psychotic
medications have been developed, typical and atypical. Typical anti psychotics have a high
potency and high affinity to D2 receptors, however this can cause extrapyramidal effects and
Parkinsonism (Golan Tashjian, 2012). Atypical anti psychotics have a lower potency and low
affinity to D2 receptors and less side effects. Therefore, anti psychotic medication must block an
appropriate amount of D2 receptors as a deficiency of dopamine can cause extrapyramidal effects
and even worsen the negative symptoms whereas an excess results in psychosis. A cross sectional
neuroimaging study reveals that the link between D2 receptors and extrapyramidal side effects
occurs only after 78% of D2 receptor occupancy (Kapur,

The Book Thief Setting Analysis
We are all a product of our environment. Think about this: how would your life be different if
you grew up in a completely different place? How would farm life differ from living in a
metropolitan area? Well, the setting of a story has precisely the same effect on its development.
In Markus Zusak s The Book Thief, a girl named Liesel Meminger grows up in WWII Germany
and as a result of her parents being communists is put under foster care where she learns to read in
a place where they burn literature and everything from food to what people sell in stores are under
strict regulation. The setting of the story time, place, circumstance all allow the story s characters,
theme and plot to develop.
The setting dictates the characters and their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One theme of this novel is the power of literature and words. In fact, Zusak directly states the
theme on the 126th page of his novel: Once, words had rendered Liesel useless, but now, when
she sat on the floor, with the mayor s wife at her husband s desk, she felt an innate sense of
power. It happened every time she deciphered a new word or pieced together a sentence. He goes
on to explain that in a place such as Nazi Germany, how fitting it was that she was just now
learning the power behind the words. The real irony lies here: in Nazi Germany, a girl in the Hitler
youth learns to read as they have ceremonies for the purpose of burning books written by Jewish
authors, and her primary practice in the summer of 1940 came from reading Jewish books in her
mayor s library under the supervision of his wife. Now, if the setting were different, then this theme
wouldn t have the significance that it currently has. Thus, the setting magnifies the true theme.
In summation, The Book Thief by Markus Zusak is greatly dependent on its setting. The setting
dictates the habits and stories for the characters, such as Liesel s love of literature or Max s hard
lot in life. The events in the plot are possible because of the circumstances in the setting, and the
themes take on a new dimension and meaning. Overall, the setting is the true root of the aspects
found in a story. It makes one wonder how the settings of our own lives have formed

Different Methods, Bacteria, And Development Transduction,...
Through three different methods, bacteria can obtain new genetic material: conjugation,
transduction and transformation Transduction is when a bacteriophage inserts it s DNA into the
host bacteria cell, while conjugation is when the bacteria shares DNA through direct contact, eg.
horizontal gene transfer. The third method, transformation, is the intake of external DNA into the
cell (Chen and Dubnau, 2004). In order for bacteriato be able to take in extraneous DNA, they must
first be in a state of competent (Hanahan, 1983). There are two types of transformation cells in
transformation: natural competence and artificial competence. Natural transformation can occur
in both gram negative and gram positive bacteria, but have different pathways to take in the new
DNA. There are several ways to induce competence onto some bacteria cells, that are not
naturally competence. Cells can be treated to heat shock, starved of nutrients, the use of
electroporation or keep in ionic solutions to induce competence by increasing the permeability of
the membrane (Van der Rest et al., 1999). Plasmids are circular double stranded DNA found in
bacteria that can encode for basic necessary functions (Couturier, et al., 1988). Ampicillin (6[D( )
a aminophenylacetamido] penicillanic acid) is an antibiotic that is a derivative of penicillin and is
can work against both gram negative and gram positive bacteria (Acred et al. 1962)

On Being An Atheist Mccloskey Summary
H. J. McCloskey, in his article On Being an Atheist is explaining why he believes that atheism is
more acceptable than theism. He starts by letting other atheists know that he plans to explain why
theists place their beliefs in the existence of God, why theists arguments fall short of proof, why
atheists take the stance that Goddoes not exist, and the view that theists have of atheismbeing a sad,
unfriendly view. McCloskey begins his explanation of these beliefs and views by arguing against
three proofs or arguments that drive theists belief in God as a necessary being. The three proofs he
is arguing against are the cosmological argument, the teleological argument, and the argument from
design. He feels that these proofs, as he calls them,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He feels that theists should be sad and dismal just for following their beliefs. He elaborates on
this by sharing that someone who is suffering physically or emotional or someone watching a
friend or loved one suffer would find more peace in the knowledge that God does not exist. He
states that atheists would look for compassion from fellow atheists and friends. McCloskey goes
on to state that atheists would not tell someone to look for compassion from a God that allowed
the agony to happen in the first place. He also shares that in light of there not being a God that
people should do all they can to decrease the issues that would cause someone to need
compassion. McCloskey says that fellow atheists would step up to help others in need and would
work to eliminate the problems that arise to cause pain and suffering. In response to this, we look
at William Lane Craig claims in The Absurdity of Life without God that you cannot live happily
and consistently in the atheistic view. There are three places where we find inconsistency. First,
atheists believe there is no meaning to life without God but try to create meaning and therefore
contradicts their view. Second, values of life become inconsistent in the atheistic view because you
can t live without ethics of human love and brotherhood. Without God, there is no right and wrong.
Third, there is no purpose to life and

`` The Yellow Wallpaper `` By Charlotte Perkins Gilman
John laughs at me, but one expects that in marriage.
Charlotte Perkins Gilman wrote, John laughs at me, of course, but one expects that in marriage. In
her The Yellow Wallpaper men attempted to prevent women from achieving their intellectual and
creative potential by making women be their subordinates. The dreadful wallpaper that Gilman
came to hate in her story is a symbolic representation of her personal life were as she gets married
her role is limited to that of a domestic servant as her husband exercises authority over her. For
example, in some parts of the world today, some women under the institution of marriage are still

How Is Lady Capulet Careless
Lad Capulet= Carelessness In Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet, Lady Capulet showcases that; she
plays as a carless character throughout the play. Firstly, Juliet tries to explain how she does not
want to marry Paris, O sweet my mother, cast me not away! Delay this marriage for a month, a
week, or if you do not, make the bridal bed. In that dim monument where Tybaltlies. (III. V. 198
201) Lady Capulet replies, Talk not to me, for I ll not speak a word. Do as thou wilt, for I have
done with thee. (III.V. 201 202) Here it showcases, that she did not care about her anymore at this
point as well with she does not want anything to do with Juliet. As a mother I would talk to her
about the problem and help find a solution to make things well, but she... Show more content on

Secondly, Lord Capulet tells, his wife about Juliet s marriage and asks, How now wife, have you

she gives you thanks. I would the fool were married to her grace. (III.V.139 140) Here it shows,
Lady Capulet does not speak against her husband, Lord Capulet because she does not want to
irritate nor disappoint him and Juliet. Overall, her mother does not stand up for her own daughter
s opinions. Thirdly, when Juliet kneels down on her knees and begs to not marry Paris, I beseech
you on my knees, hear me with patience but to speak a word. (III.V 158 159) Response from Lord

Describing Lenin Essay examples
Describing Lenin A cruel tyrant, bloodthirsty and ruthless in his determination to seize and hold
on to power He devoted his whole life to the interests of working people and to the building of a
better society. Which of these two descriptions of Lenin do you think is closes to the truth. After
several uprisings, demonstrations and a coup attempt, finally by mid October 1917 the Bolshevik
movement gained pace and the Bolshevik revolution began between 25 27 October,as a result; the
Provisinal government ministers were arrested and the 2nd Congress of the Soviets was announced.

It would on the other hand, be untrue to suggest that Lenin did not wished to take power. He
certainly did, but only till a worker s state was created, where individuals would contribute to the
best of their ability and the profits would be distrubuted according to need. Lenin s life time has
not allowed this to happen and with Stalin in power this was not possible. So, although it needs
imagination to say that Lenin was bloodthirsty and ruthless it is clear and not deniable that
wanted power and therefore he had the control of most things . This is to say he was the top
man , next came the seven members of the Polikburo than the Central Committies with 40
people, than the Party Congress, followed by the party with 8000 members, the Soviets which
would lead itself to the working class which finally ended with the whole of society. Looking at
this system, it may be suggested that Lenin basically controlled the society, all by himself,
however if looked at in long term this wasn t true, as Lenin s aim was to create a classless and a
society where no leader would be necessary. Nevertheless, it can not be declined that during Lenin
s time a lot of terror and cruelty took place, although not directly under his command. This terror
was probably the result or maybe

High Impulsivity And Novelty Seeking Drugs
The article, High Impulsivity Predicts the Switch to Compulsive Cocaine Talking, sought to
determine whether impulsivity and novelty seeking (which are behavioral markers of addictive
drugs) place individuals in the vulnerability of compulsive seeking of the drug. The researchers
used laboratory rats to test the vulnerability. Researchers found that high reactivity to novelty
predicted the likelihood of rats seeking cocaine self administration. However, high impulsivity
seemed to predict the development of addictionlike behavior in the laboratory rats. The results
obtained by researchers has changed the perspective from the impulsivity aspect of drug use
towards the compulsivity factor during the initial stages of addiction development. Interestingly, the
compulsive factor can be generated through neural physiology (i.e. neural mechanisms or
diminished function of cortical function).
In terms of lecture material, as discussed, drugs (such as stimulants) produce a hedonic state in
individuals that leads them to greater drug use. The sensation of false euphoria can be what drives
individuals who actively seek the drug. This can make drug users to impulsively seek drugs. As
stated in the article, their evidence demonstrated that high levels of impulsivity can come before the
onset of compulsive drug use.
As discussed in lecture, although cocaine and caffeine are considered to be both stimulants, their
effects are very different. There is a particular mechanism of biological

understand the reason why these men fight and the meaning of the war. Ultimately, the reader
observes that the war is fought on an individual level as much as a governmental level. These men

Charles Perrault’s Cinderella
In Cinderella by Charles Perrault, the story depicts an imaginative fairytale through the hardships of
a mistreated daughter and the magic of a fairy; in essence, Cinderella demonstrates that focusing on
materialism is more important and more effective other than working up the path to majesty.
Cinderellais a character who is often mistreated by her stepmother and god sisters. Bearing
unsuitable personalities, they treat her harshly, leaving all of the chores to her. However, she
admits that her tattered clothes are not worthy of a formal event, and continues to be belittled by
her stepsisters. Portrayed with low self esteem and insecurity, she does not respond harshly to their
cruel insults. As a result, the main character relies on... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, her true beauty lies within her skin, as Perrault s interprets Cinderella as a hundred
times more handsome than her sisters . He aims to focus more on female recognition and self
fulfillment, rather than provide a base for all readers to understand fully (HuМ€hn). At an
elementary level, this may not influence children to an extent, but other stories that reproduce
this same structure of plot elements could possibly influence children in the future. For instance,
she was not the hero of the story. The Prince isn t the hero until he discovers her lost possession,
a glass slipper, and searched for the person that fits. As told by Perrault, he had done nothing but
look at her all the time, and that most certainly he was very much in love with the beautiful
owner of the glass slipper. This enforces the fact that her beauty prevails over her actual
personality but not behavior, and the appearance and mannerisms surely impressed the Prince.
The Prince stereotypes the role of women being in need of a destined lover. He is the one that
identifies Cinderella as the one in the dress, though excluding behavior, her appearance dazzles
him for two nights at the ball. Most importantly, he s not the hero of the fairytale, but readers can
interpret the fairy godmother as the savior of Cinderella s demise. The role of magic comes in part
with the acceptance of achieving the imagery of an elegant woman, impressing the Prince who
gains interest in her. The

Garibooli s Belonging In Home By Larissa Behrendt
Home written by Larissa Behrendt is a fictional account that portrays the experiences the
Aboriginals coped with in early Australian history. The novel follows the experiences of an
aboriginal woman named Garibooli and shows the repercussions of her life and how it effects
those around her. The novel explores a multitude of effects that a single event can have on an
individual and the generations to follow. Some of these effects include, grief, loss and the sense of
belonging. Belonging is personal and everyone deserves to belong and due to Garibooli and her
children being of aboriginal descendant in a predominately white society, they have difficulty
finding their sense of belonging.
In the novel Home , Garibooli suffers at an early age ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Bob develops an understanding of the home he and his family might have had when he learns that

Aborigines Protection Board that showed an Elizabeth Boney had been removed from dungalear

embarrassed and insecure to be an Aboriginal. In the novel, Behrendt slightly criticises Bob s lost
nature to resemble the mistake he is making by trying to fit in with the new culture instead of
accepting who he is. And maybe it was Bob s own aversion to his black heritage, the wish that he
was something other than Aboriginal that could not release him from his nightmare. (296) The non
indigenous culture that Bob has grown up in has damaged his sense of identity and belonging due
to the lack of Aboriginality, which was originally taken away from

Cell Anemi The Common Genetic Disorder Essay
SICKEL CELL ANEMIA
Sickle Cell Anemia or (SCD) is the most common genetic disorder across the entire world it is an
inherited genetic condition giving to you by both your mother and father that affects your
hemoglobin. There is a mutation in the gene that tells your body to make hemoglobin (a red iron
rich compound that gives blood its red color). There are over 600 million hemoglobin molecules in
each red blood cell (Brown, M. (2012)). The purpose of hemoglobin is allow red blood cells to
carry carbon dioxide, and oxygen from your lungs to all parts of the body. People with sickle cell
disease inherit the s gene from abnormal hemoglobin from both parents, you usually find out you
have this disease at birth. A blood test is giving to all newborns to look for the s gene known as the
sickle cell gene.
Children and adults can also have this test done. Young children s blood is usually taken from a
finger or heel prick for this test. Adults can have their blood drawn from a vein in the arm.
Pregnant woman who want to know if there baby will have sickle cell disease can have their
unborn baby tested by the amniotic fluid surrounded by the fetus to look for the s gene. In
people with sickle cell anemia the abnormal hemoglobin causes red blood cells to become rigid,
sticky and crescent shaped. The crescent shape is why they call it the s gene. Both of your parents
must carry the s gene. If only one parent has the s gene and passes it

The Human Perception And Distinction Between Gender And...
Evolutions in scientific thought have often contributed to overhauls of the human perception and
distinction between gender and culture. Consequently, scientific revolutions have also triggered
sociopolitical movements, which have had negative and positive connotations on culture and
society. This overhaul in scientific thought began in the 19th century with naturalist Charles Darwin
and his theory of Darwinism. Darwinism states that animal species continually evolve through the
complex processes of natural selection and those most fit learn to adapt and survive to their
particular environment (darwin online.org, 2008). Shortly after Darwin made his revolutionary
claims, one of the most prolific and controversial scientific revolutions... Show more content on

In short, this theory has a history of elevating certain groups while oppressing others and this paper
aims to expose the impact of the Eugenics movement in and its lasting effects on gender and culture
in America, specifically on women and African Americans and individuals with disabilities.
In the minds of eugenicists of the late 19th and 20th centuries, the ideal and most fit race of people
was Anglo Saxon. This obsession to breed a world dominated by the white Anglo Saxon race
negatively skewed the societal perception of women. It placed extreme pressure on them to
procreate and preserve the genetic integrity of the superior race. Women were held in high regard
for their ability and fitness to bear and rear children, but little else. Women were adversely burdened
with the stigma of possessing a diminished and often emotion driven mental capacity in comparison
to male counterparts.
Dr. Roswell H. Johnson student of influential American eugenicist Charles Davenport, expert, and
professor of eugenics and prominent mind in the American Eugenics Movement picked up where
Darwin and Galton left off. He was co developer of the Taylor Johnson Temperament Analysis (T
JTA), it is a widely used personality assessment for individual, marital, premarital, and family
counseling, measuring 18 dimensions of personality (9 bipolar traits) that are important
components of personal adjustment and in

  • 2. Zombies Of Toronto Summary Response Paper for Zombies of Toronto The journal article The Zombies of Toronto was published in 2010 and deals with the famous Toronto zombie walk. According to Dr. Bryce Peake, the zombie walk is a modern trend in which thousands of people gather together to flood the streets, clothed and painted as zombies. The first impression one might gain, seems a little ridiculous, but behind thus masquerade is a serious background hidden. Ontario becomes once a year the setting of the notorious zombiewalk. Thousand of actors flood the streets to perform their vision of the impending apocalypse, foreshadowed by the signs of increased global violence (65). The first recorded zombie walk took place in 2001, but since 2003 Toronto is the capital of the zombie walk cities. Evolving over the years, it has become a global phenomenon and resembles for most participants [...] an implicit and explicit critique of war and violence, taking... • 3. Electronic Communication by President Abraham Lincoln What became of our forces which held the bridge till twenty minutes ago...? The President of the United States telegraphed a colonel in the field during the Civil War Battle of Second Manassas (Bull Run) in 1862. Abraham Lincoln was using the new medium of electronic communications in an unprecedented manner to revolutionize the nature of national leadership. When Lincoln arrived for his inauguration in 1861 there was not even a telegraph line to the War Department, much less the White House. Storm clouds were brewing, but when the US Army wanted to send a telegram they did like everyone else: sending a clerk with a hand written message to stand in line at Washington s central telegraph office. That unwieldy situation changed rapidly, however, as wires were strung to the War Department and other key installations. The White House, however, remained without any outside connection. The national leaders were like their constituents in their understanding of electronic communications. While an interesting and growing technology, the telegraph s potential was still widely underappreciated and it certainly had never been tested in a time of crisis. This reality makes Lincoln s subsequent embrace of the new technology even more remarkable. Without the guidance of precedent, and in the middle of a battle for the nation s survival, Abraham Lincoln used the new electronic communications to transform the nature of the presidency. The telegraph became a tool of his leadership ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A group of different species living within an ecosystem is called a community. The relationships within a community of organisms can be grouped into different types of interactions, including predator prey relationships and symbiotic relationships. An animal that hunts and eats other animals is called a predator. The animal that gets eaten is called a prey animal. Predator prey relationships involve both adaptations of the predator to catch the prey and adaptations of the prey to avoid the predator. Population sizes are also connected to this relationship. When a prey population changes, the predator ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These are relationships in which individuals live close to each other for extended periods of time. In a parasite host relationship, one organism benefits at the expense of the other organism. Typically, the host organism is not killed by the parasite. A tick attaching itself to a deeris an example of a parasite host relationship. The tick is the parasite, and the deer is the host. In symbiotic mutualism, the two organisms benefit each other. A good example is the relationship between some ants and acacia trees. Acacia trees have large thorns that the ants can hollow out and live inside. The trees also excrete sweet nectar that feeds the resident ants. In return, the ants benefit the acacia tree by attacking any insects that attempt to eat the tree. Commensalism refers to a relationship in which one organism benefits and the other organism is not significantly affected. The relationship between cattle and birds called cattle egrets is a good example of commensalism. As cattle graze in grasslands, they disturb many insects that hide among the grasses. Egrets follow the cattle and eat the insects that are disturbed by the grazing cattle. The egrets benefit, but the cattle are not significantly affected by this ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. The Struggle Of Democratic Peace Although countries in South America are not democratic for most of the last century, it has the fewest inter state wars there, which can be explained by geopolitics with balance of power, the trade off between benefits and costs, and relations among countries in this area. According to the theory of Democratic Peace, since democratic leaders have a larger wining coalitions, in order to keep in office, they need to gain support from selectorate, and democratic leaders facing with war are more inclined to shift extra resources into the war effort than are autocrats . In addition to trying harder, democrats are more selective in their choice of targets and democrats only initiate wars they expect to win. As a generalization, it is an empirical law that democracies do not fight wars with one another . On the contrary, with a small winning coalition, non democrats leaders are facing less risk of being deposed than are their democratic counterparts , therefore, they are not constrained by the selectorate and they are inclined to choose war when the expected benefit is larger than the cost of conflict, or larger than the benefit from negotiation. This may lead to the conclusion that non democrats are more likely to have conflicts with other countries. However, when we look at South America, despite the differences between some of the continent s countries, it has not experienced full scale interstate warfare in over 80 years . • 10. Surprised By Hope Analysis In the book Surprised by Hope by N. T. Wright, he discusses salvation, the new creation, what our bodies will be like after Christ returns. Will the heavens come down to earth or will humans go up to heaven? These are all points that Christians need to ask themselves and begin to think about. He lays these topics out in clear, concise ways so the reader can comprehend what his points are. All throughout his book, the theme of a new heavenand new earth are constantly being thrown around. Wright uses Philippians 3:20 that says, But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord JesusChrist to back up his claim that ... (he) will come from heaven to earth, to change the present situation and state of his... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... According to Wright, they will be immortal. He puts it like this, In particular, this new body will be immortal. That is, it will have passed beyond death not just in the temporal sense but also the ontological sense of no longer being subject to sickness, injury, decay, and death itself (160) This means that we are going to have stronger, healthier, more perfect bodies that God will give us as a gift of love. We may not even look the same, something will be different about our bodies. In fact, when Jesus was resurrected from the dead the disciples did not recognize him. This was a man whom they had worked for years with and for, yet they did not recognize him in the new body. Wright claims that this immorality is different than the common idea of immorality. He says that people believe immorality has to do with souls, not bodies. After I read this, I immediately disagreed with that, because I have only thought of immorality of souls living forever, not bodies. After I had thought over this statement a bit more, I found myself agreeing with it. In fact, 2 Corinthians 5:4 says, While we live in these earthly bodies, we groan and sigh, but it s not that we want to die and get rid of these bodies that clothe us. Rather, we want to put on our new bodies so that these dying bodies will be swallowed up by life. I knew that verse, yet I still never made the connections in my head. While our earthly bodies do not go up to heaven, I believe our souls do until the Lord returns and then we will be raised with our new bodies. If we die before the Lord returns, then we will be with the Lord in heaven, yet not complete until he returns to the earth. One thing that Wright says that I do not agree with is, ...immortality is something that only God possesses by nature and that then he shares, as a gift of grace rather than an innate possession, with his people (161). • 11. Roman Republic And The Roman Empire Roman Republic, one of the most famous republic in ancient time, established a form of government comprising three main parts: a few magistrates, a Senate, and several assemblies. Roman Republic was the period of ancient Roman civilization starting with the collapse of the Roman Kingdom in 509 BC, and ended in 27 BC with the founding of the Roman Empire. The government had representatives selected by citizen and ended because of the civil war between powerful generals including Antony and Brutus. The Roman Republic was established in 509 B.C. BC after overthrowing the Etruscan kings. As democracy was getting started in Athens, the Roman aristocrats (the rich) wanted to get rid of Etruscan kings so they can get more power. They needed the poor men to fight for them. So they promised the poor men that they would be given power in the new government, if they can help get rid of the Etruscan kings. The poor men decided to help, and together the king was threw out in 510 B.C. But once the kings were out, the rich did not give the poor men what they had promised. So the poor men protested and went on strike. The Roman aristocrats had to make a concession, and they let the poor vote. People in Roman Republic voted for representatives who express their opinion like the way United States does. But the only people who could be elected to the Roman Senate were the rich people. • 14. Emotional Analysis Of The Old Spice Scent Vacation... We all know a person who looks very confident and put together on the outside, but a conversation with them reveals that much is lacking in their personality. Similarly, commercials can appear fun or exciting, but upon further inspection it is greatly lacking in depth. Because of this, creating commercials is a balance between providing information and keeping the viewers engaged. The process isn t simply writing a script containing only style and no substance, or one with only substance and no style. With the former, a commercial could capture the audience s attention, but provides no supporting information; the latter, provides an excessive amount of information, but does not seize the viewers. Creating commercials pines for the utmost balance; if the balance is off by a fraction, it could mean the difference between a million dollars or zero. The Old Spice Scent Vacation commercial sits atop the pinnacle of this balance. It was made to advertise their new collection of scents ranging from the scenic beaches of Fiji to the snowy peak of Denali (Mt. McKinley). The commercial illustrates this balance through the use of emotional appeals, imagery, and appeals to authority and credibility to convince people of the outlandish benefits of switching to Old Spice, in terms of confidence and sexual appeal. Old Spice s use of appealing to certain emotions carries strong effects in this commercial. It evokes a multitude of feelings, anywhere from anger to lust to joy. The commercial ... Gram negative bacteria are surrounded by two lipid bilayer membranes, which enclose the periplasmic space composed of peptidoglycan that contains ions and proteins. The two membranes differ in composition and function. With respect to composition, the inner or cytoplasmic membrane is composed of phospholipids, such as phosphatidylethanolamine, phospatidylglycerol and cardiolipin found in both the inner and outer leaflet. Certain cellular regulators transmit signals from the exterior to the inner part of the cell via cytoplasmic secondary messenger systems or so called alomers. In bacteria this function is performed by the 3 ,5 cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cAMP) which is an ubiquitous molecule found in both eukaryotes and prokaryotes. The cAMP targets its receptor, the cAMP receptor protein (CRP) and this CRP cAMP complex formed binds to the DNA in order to activate the expression of genes that code for enzymes responsible for the supply of energy of the cell, besides the cAMP is a derivative of ATP independent of glucose. It is studied that the CRP cAMP is a global regulator of gene expression of almost 200 operons in E.coli. Type 1 fimbriation is dependent on growth phase and it is found that CRP cAMP regulates type 1 fimbriae expression during the exponential growth phase. CRP and cAMP levels are influenced by environmental conditions mainly by glucose availability and osmolarity. These particular conditions affect also the DNA topology in E. coli. These stages are, The Sensorimotor Stage: During this stage, infants and toddlers acquire knowledge through sensory experiences and manipulating objects. At this point in development, a child s intelligence consists of their basic motor and sensory explorations of the world. The Preoperational Stage: At this stage, kids learn through pretend play but still struggle with logic and taking the point of view of other people. They also often struggle with understanding the ideal of constancy. The Concrete Operational Stage: Kids at this point of development begin to think more logically, but their thinking can also be very rigid. They tend to struggle with abstract and hypothetical concepts. The Formal Operational Stage: The final stage of Piaget s theory involves an increase in logic, the ability to use deductive reasoning, and an understanding of abstract ideas. • 19. The Fire Of Free Thinking By adding to old ideas and infusing our own thinking we have created a new young American culture. Everyone generation does, so while we are not unique in the creation, ours is somewhat different than our recent counterparts. It is fairly difficult to describe, but with our situation and thought process has led to a rise in individualistic thinking. The fire of free thinking has been intensely fanned by social media that has driven its movement to become much larger than it may have been otherwise. These ideas have mixed with most of the classic American beliefs to give us the environment that we have now. Our individualism is spearheaded by our new bravery and willingness to be different. Years ago much of the emphasis was placed on fitting in the social structure comfortably and being similar to your peers. In our time it isn t looked down on to be different and in many ways it is almost encouraged. It is now thought that you don t want to be the same as the people around you in all ways and this rational has helped to create more independent young people. This is a positive thing in many ways, most notably being the growth in free thinking. We are now comfortable developing our own thoughts and perception. We don t as easily accept others thoughts without thinking them through first by ourselves. This creates more young people who will end up being critical and deep thinkers in the future and these are the people that have a real opportunity to change the world. We must ... What grows his hatred for Othello is when Othello gives the promotion of lieutenant to Cassio and not him. This sparks a rage inside of him which he then starts to form a plan to overthrow both Cassio and Othelloand get that title that he so righteously thinks he deserves. But this isn t the only reason why Iagocarries out with his plan to destroy both Cassio and Othello. Is Us Military Becoming Outdated In a 2015 article, Is U.S. military becoming outdated? written by Stuart Bradin, Keenan Yoho, and Meaghan Keeler Pettigrew, the authors argued that despite the U.S. military maintaining a position of global dominance without peer during conventional operations, it is not the ideal force against current and future threats. The authors claim that there are several negative factors arising due to the past sixteen years of war against several state and non state elements, inferior cultural differences of government bureaucracycompared to commercial firms, and a misallocation of defense spending that leaves the US militarywaging war inefficiently while simultaneously losing technological dominance against current and future threats.... The actions of Pope Urban II in calling for a military pilgrimage were deeply political, but he was also informed by religious concerns and worries over the moral integrity of Latin Christendom in his decision. A major political dimension that manifests with Urban II preaching the First Crusade is a unification of the Eastern and Western churches.1 While Urban II s address at Clermont does not specifically address this aim, there is some body of evidence to support this as a political aspiration such as how Urban II had been contacted by envoys of the emperor Alexius, who requested military aid.2 While accounts of the address made at Clermont vary, most address the recent loss of territory the Byzantine Empire had experienced, and the depredations made against Eastern Christians. The account made by Baldric of Dol has Urban II address that your own blood brothers, your companions, your associates (for you are sons of the same Christ and the same church) are either subjected in their inherited homes to other masters, or are driven from them, or they come as beggars among us .3 With the focus on the plight of Eastern Christians, however, there is still a spiritual element present the crusade becomes a moral imperative, to stop the depredations of infidels in the holy spaces of Christianity. Anti psychotic medication works by binding to a specific receptor in the brain, known as dopamine receptor D2 (Kapur, 2000). By blocking this receptor, symptoms of psychosis are controlled. As symptoms of stimulant psychosis are very similar to the positive symptoms of schizophrenia, anti psychotic medication is the preferred medication to treat affected individuals. Two types of anti psychotic medications have been developed, typical and atypical. Typical anti psychotics have a high potency and high affinity to D2 receptors, however this can cause extrapyramidal effects and Parkinsonism (Golan Tashjian, 2012). Atypical anti psychotics have a lower potency and low affinity to D2 receptors and less side effects. Therefore, anti psychotic medication must block an appropriate amount of D2 receptors as a deficiency of dopamine can cause extrapyramidal effects and even worsen the negative symptoms whereas an excess results in psychosis. How would farm life differ from living in a metropolitan area? Well, the setting of a story has precisely the same effect on its development. In Markus Zusak s The Book Thief, a girl named Liesel Meminger grows up in WWII Germany and as a result of her parents being communists is put under foster care where she learns to read in a place where they burn literature and everything from food to what people sell in stores are under strict regulation. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One theme of this novel is the power of literature and words. In fact, Zusak directly states the theme on the 126th page of his novel: Once, words had rendered Liesel useless, but now, when she sat on the floor, with the mayor s wife at her husband s desk, she felt an innate sense of power. It happened every time she deciphered a new word or pieced together a sentence. He goes on to explain that in a place such as Nazi Germany, how fitting it was that she was just now learning the power behind the words. The real irony lies here: in Nazi Germany, a girl in the Hitler youth learns to read as they have ceremonies for the purpose of burning books written by Jewish authors, and her primary practice in the summer of 1940 came from reading Jewish books in her mayor s library under the supervision of his wife. Now, if the setting were different, then this theme wouldn t have the significance that it currently has. Thus, the setting magnifies the true theme. In summation, The Book Thief by Markus Zusak is greatly dependent on its setting. The setting dictates the habits and stories for the characters, such as Liesel s love of literature or Max s hard lot in life. The events in the plot are possible because of the circumstances in the setting, and the themes take on a new dimension and meaning. Overall, the setting is the true root of the aspects found in a story. It makes one wonder how the settings of our own lives have formed ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Through three different methods, bacteria can obtain new genetic material: conjugation, transduction and transformation Transduction is when a bacteriophage inserts it s DNA into the host bacteria cell, while conjugation is when the bacteria shares DNA through direct contact, eg. horizontal gene transfer. The third method, transformation, is the intake of external DNA into the cell (Chen and Dubnau, 2004). In order for bacteriato be able to take in extraneous DNA, they must first be in a state of competent (Hanahan, 1983). There are two types of transformation cells in transformation: natural competence and artificial competence. Natural transformation can occur in both gram negative and gram positive bacteria, but have different pathways to take in the new DNA. There are several ways to induce competence onto some bacteria cells, that are not naturally competence. Cells can be treated to heat shock, starved of nutrients, the use of electroporation or keep in ionic solutions to induce competence by increasing the permeability of the membrane (Van der Rest et al., 1999). Plasmids are circular double stranded DNA found in bacteria that can encode for basic necessary functions (Couturier, et al., 1988). McCloskey begins his explanation of these beliefs and views by arguing against three proofs or arguments that drive theists belief in God as a necessary being. He elaborates on this by sharing that someone who is suffering physically or emotional or someone watching a friend or loved one suffer would find more peace in the knowledge that God does not exist. He states that atheists would look for compassion from fellow atheists and friends. McCloskey goes on to state that atheists would not tell someone to look for compassion from a God that allowed the agony to happen in the first place. He also shares that in light of there not being a God that people should do all they can to decrease the issues that would cause someone to need compassion. In response to this, we look at William Lane Craig claims in The Absurdity of Life without God that you cannot live happily and consistently in the atheistic view. Charlotte Perkins Gilman wrote, John laughs at me, of course, but one expects that in marriage. In her The Yellow Wallpaper men attempted to prevent women from achieving their intellectual and creative potential by making women be their subordinates. The dreadful wallpaper that Gilman came to hate in her story is a symbolic representation of her personal life were as she gets married her role is limited to that of a domestic servant as her husband exercises authority over her. For example, in some parts of the world today, some women under the institution of marriage are still caged because they must accept control or instructions from men as a social expectation. Gilman and Chopin in their short stories how the male dominated society used power to imprison, oppresses, silences, and encourages submissiveness among married women. The freedom for a woman to speak, think, act and contribute to decision making in her marriage contributes to the fight for equality between men and women. He certainly did, but only till a worker s state was created, where individuals would contribute to the best of their ability and the profits would be distrubuted according to need. Lenin s life time has not allowed this to happen and with Stalin in power this was not possible. So, although it needs imagination to say that Lenin was bloodthirsty and ruthless it is clear and not deniable that wanted power and therefore he had the control of most things . This is to say he was the top man , next came the seven members of the Polikburo than the Central Committies with 40 people, than the Party Congress, followed by the party with 8000 members, the Soviets which would lead itself to the working class which finally ended with the whole of society. Looking at this system, it may be suggested that Lenin basically controlled the society, all by himself, however if looked at in long term this wasn t true, as Lenin s aim was to create a classless and a society where no leader would be necessary. • 43. High Impulsivity And Novelty Seeking Drugs The article, High Impulsivity Predicts the Switch to Compulsive Cocaine Talking, sought to determine whether impulsivity and novelty seeking (which are behavioral markers of addictive drugs) place individuals in the vulnerability of compulsive seeking of the drug. The researchers used laboratory rats to test the vulnerability. Researchers found that high reactivity to novelty predicted the likelihood of rats seeking cocaine self administration. However, high impulsivity seemed to predict the development of addictionlike behavior in the laboratory rats. The results obtained by researchers has changed the perspective from the impulsivity aspect of drug use towards the compulsivity factor during the initial stages of addiction development. Interestingly, the compulsive factor can be generated through neural physiology (i.e. neural mechanisms or diminished function of cortical function). In terms of lecture material, as discussed, drugs (such as stimulants) produce a hedonic state in individuals that leads them to greater drug use. The sensation of false euphoria can be what drives individuals who actively seek the drug. This can make drug users to impulsively seek drugs. As stated in the article, their evidence demonstrated that high levels of impulsivity can come before the onset of compulsive drug use. As discussed in lecture, although cocaine and caffeine are considered to be both stimulants, their effects are very different. There is a particular mechanism of biological ... • 47. Charles Perrault’s Cinderella In Cinderella by Charles Perrault, the story depicts an imaginative fairytale through the hardships of a mistreated daughter and the magic of a fairy; in essence, Cinderella demonstrates that focusing on materialism is more important and more effective other than working up the path to majesty. Cinderellais a character who is often mistreated by her stepmother and god sisters. Bearing unsuitable personalities, they treat her harshly, leaving all of the chores to her. However, she admits that her tattered clothes are not worthy of a formal event, and continues to be belittled by her stepsisters. However, her true beauty lies within her skin, as Perrault s interprets Cinderella as a hundred times more handsome than her sisters . He aims to focus more on female recognition and self fulfillment, rather than provide a base for all readers to understand fully (HuМ€hn). At an elementary level, this may not influence children to an extent, but other stories that reproduce this same structure of plot elements could possibly influence children in the future. For instance, she was not the hero of the story. The Prince isn t the hero until he discovers her lost possession, a glass slipper, and searched for the person that fits. As told by Perrault, he had done nothing but look at her all the time, and that most certainly he was very much in love with the beautiful owner of the glass slipper. This enforces the fact that her beauty prevails over her actual personality but not behavior, and the appearance and mannerisms surely impressed the Prince. The Prince stereotypes the role of women being in need of a destined lover. He is the one that identifies Cinderella as the one in the dress, though excluding behavior, her appearance dazzles him for two nights at the ball. Most importantly, he s not the hero of the fairytale, but readers can interpret the fairy godmother as the savior of Cinderella s demise. The role of magic comes in part with the acceptance of achieving the imagery of an elegant woman, impressing the Prince who gains interest in her. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Evolutions in scientific thought have often contributed to overhauls of the human perception and distinction between gender and culture. Darwinism states that animal species continually evolve through the complex processes of natural selection and those most fit learn to adapt and survive to their particular environment (darwin online.org, 2008). In the minds of eugenicists of the late 19th and 20th centuries, the ideal and most fit race of people was Anglo Saxon. This obsession to breed a world dominated by the white Anglo Saxon race negatively skewed the societal perception of women. It placed extreme pressure on them to procreate and preserve the genetic integrity of the superior race. Women were held in high regard for their ability and fitness to bear and rear children, but little else. Women were adversely burdened with the stigma of possessing a diminished and often emotion driven mental capacity in comparison to male counterparts. Dr. Roswell H.
