Good Classification Essay Topics
Writing an essay on the topic of "Good Classification Essay Topics" can be both challenging and
intriguing. The difficulty lies in the need to not only explore various subject matters but also to
categorize them effectively. Selecting appropriate categories and ensuring a logical flow within
the essay can be demanding. Additionally, finding topics that are not only interesting but also
lend themselves well to classification adds another layer of complexity.
One must delve into diverse fields and identify commonalities or differences among various
subjects to create meaningful categories. This involves in-depth research and critical thinking to
discern the underlying patterns that justify the chosen classifications. Balancing breadth and
depth in coverage is crucial to maintain the essay's coherence and keep the reader engaged.
Moreover, crafting an engaging introduction that captures the reader's attention, followed by a
clear thesis statement that outlines the chosen categories, requires skillful writing. The body of
the essay must be well-structured, with each category explored in detail, and examples or
evidence provided to support the classification. Transitioning smoothly between categories
ensures a seamless reading experience.
Concluding the essay is equally challenging, as it involves summarizing the main points without
introducing new information. A thought-provoking conclusion that reinforces the significance of
the chosen categories and leaves a lasting impression on the reader is essential.
In summary, writing an essay on "Good Classification Essay Topics" demands a combination of
research, critical thinking, and effective writing skills. It requires the ability to analyze diverse
subjects, identify meaningful categories, and present them in a logical and engaging manner.
Despite its challenges, successfully navigating this process can lead to a well-crafted and
insightful essay.

Case Study Alzheimer s Disease
A Look at Alzheimer s Disease: Onset, Care, and Treatment
At some point in our lives we have probably all known someone that had or has
dementia. Dementia is a generalized term that refers to the progressive, irreversible
decline in mental function. Dementia is a disease that not only affects the patient
but also affects the patient s loved ones. Caring for a loved one with dementia can
be very difficult and heart breaking but there are lots of resources to help.
Dementia is caused by irreversible damage to the patient s brain cells and the cells
ability to communicate with one another. There are no specific tests to diagnose
dementia. Patients are diagnosed based on a careful medical history, a physical,
blood work, and talking to a doctor ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, there are treatments, both drug and non drug, that can slow the progression
of symptoms. Drug therapies include cholinesterase inhibitors and NMDA receptor
antagonists. Different medications are prescribed at different stages of the disease.
Donepezil (Aricept), which prevent the breakdown of acetylcholine, a chemical in the
brain that helps with learning and memory, is a cholinesterase inhibitor that can be
prescribed to treat a patient at any stage of the disease. Although Aricept can be used
at any stage, drugs like Rivastigmine (Exelon) and Galantamine (Razadyne), also
cholinesterase inhibitors, are only approved to treat the disease when it is mild or
moderate. Memantine (Namenda) is a NMDA receptor antagonists that is used to
treat moderate to severe Alzheimer s and improves some patient s ability to complete
daily tasks. Namzaric is a drug that combines the cholinesterase inhibitor, donepezil
(Aricept), and NMDA receptor antagonists, memantine (Namenda), in one drug.
Along with medications that help with mental symptoms there are medications like
tricyclic antidepressants (trazodone), benzodiazepines (lorazepam), antipsychotics
(risperidone), and sleeping pills (zolpidem), that help with sleep issues that come with
Alzheimer s.
Alzheimer s disease is a complicated disease that research is still trying to figure out.

The Traversal Of The Infinite
Finiteness has to do with the existence of boundaries. Intuitively, we feel that
where there is a separation, a border, a threshold there is bound to be at least one
thing finite out of a minimum of two. This, of course, is not true. Two infinite
things can share a boundary. Infinity does not imply symmetry, let alone isotropy.
An entity can be infinite to its left and bounded on its right. Moreover, finiteness
can exist where no boundaries can. Take a sphere: it is finite, yet we can continue
to draw a line on its surface infinitely. The boundary , in this case, is conceptual and
arbitrary: if a line drawn on the surface of a sphere were to reach its starting point
then it is finite. Its starting point is the boundary,... Show more content on

The second thesis is that every substance is made up of simpler substances. The two
mathematical antinomies relate to the infinite. The answer to the first is: Since the
world does not exist in itself (detached from the infinite regression), it exists unto
itself neither as a finite whole nor as an infinite whole. Indeed, if we think about the
world as an object, it is only logical to study its size and origins. But in doing so, we
attribute to it features derived from our thinking, not affixed by any objective reality.
Kant made no serious attempt to distinguish the infinite from the infinite regression
series, which led to the antinomies. Paradoxes are the offspring of problems with
language. Philosophers used infinite regression to attack both the notions of
finiteness (Zeno) and of infinity. Ryle, for instance, suggested the following paradox:
voluntary acts are caused by wilful acts. If the latter were voluntary, then other,
preceding, wilful acts will have to be postulated to cause them and so on ad infinitum
and ad nauseam. Either the definition is wrong (voluntary acts are not caused by
wilful acts) or wilful acts are involuntary. Both conclusions are, naturally,
unacceptable. Infinity leads to unacceptable conclusions is the not so hidden message.
Zeno used infinite series to attack the notion of finiteness and to demonstrate that
finite things are made of infinite quantities of ever smaller things. Anaxagoras said
that there is no smallest
Sherman Alexie s Use Of Diction And Syntax
Sherman Alexie uses diction and syntax to show that if there aren t any legal
consequences for a bad action, there will always be another kind of consequence.
In the short story there is a young man who is not a very good hunter, misses
frequently, and one day he hit something, he walked down to it and found out he
accidentally shot a person. The man hides the body and doesn t tell anyone; years
went by and no one ever found out. After the author shot the man he explains his
thoughts as, For the next year, I was terrified that the body would be discovered. I
scanned the newspaper for missing men. Missing criminals. Missing drug dealers.
The author uses diction here when he talks about his feelings, he says terrified. The
word terrified has a much stronger... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Sherman Alexie then describes the man s guilt as, But the skull was only a
reminder that I killed a man. It is proof that I had lived and would die without
magnificence. God, I wanted to be forgiven, but an apology offered to a dead man
is only a selfish apology to yourself. The author could have just stopped with the
skull reminded him that he killed a man but he continues to describe how he felt.
He says that he had lived but died without magnificence. The author is basically
saying that the man lived, but did not really live, he died actually living . Then he
starts the last sentence with God, this has a very strong meaning. When someone
says God it usually means that they are praying, in this occasion he is just using it
to say like all I wanted, but it also has another meaning that could be he is praying
to just be forgiven. He knows that he can t apologize to a dead man and he doesn t
want to die a guilty man so the best he can do is pray for forgiveness. These
examples help to show that although he did not suffer a legal consequence, he still
lived with the guilt of killing a man and was not able to get over

The Crucible And The Handmaid s Tale Analysis
In the books The Crucible by Arthur Miller and The Handmaid s Tale by Margaret
Atwood truth is large concept. Throughout the books truth is used to define the
perception and the reality through key symbols that go above and beyond an
object. In The Crucible The Bible plays an immense part in shaping characters
characteristics, also in The Handmaid s Tale it shapes one of the main motifs of
the story. Throughout the two books, flowers are a meaningful symbol which is
compared to a real relationship and death. In The Crucible the doll symbolizes
innocence and child play which is similar to Abigail. Likewise, in The Handmaid s
Tale the red habit s that the handmaid s are forced to wear are symbolizing who they
are and what they do. Symbols... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In both books, religious truth allows readers to perceive what they read differently.
Especially comparing it to The Bible. The Bible is a very large symbol that both
books use to delineate a deeper understanding of religious truth.
In The Crucible lilacs symbolize the dying of John Proctor and Elizabeth s
relationship. During their awkward conversation, Proctor states how it is still
winter in Salem and that Elizabeth should come to Massachusetts with him to see
all the flowers. He describes how lilacs smell Lilacs have a purple smell. Lilac is
the smell of nightfall... (Miller, 42). Proctor tries to indicate his feelings towards
Elizabeth In victorian times, giving a lilac meant that the giver was trying to
remind the receiver of a first love. (flowermeaning.com). Proctor feels guilty about
his mistakes by speaking of lilacs he is trying to remind Elizabeth of the love they
once had for each other, but both know that their love has died and their love only
exists in the eyes of others.
Likewise, in The Handmaid s Tale, Margaret Atwood made sure to make flowers a
recurring symbol to emphasize the real meaning behind certain flowers. Offred s
first thought when she sees the hanged man with a bloody mouth is the red tulips
that bloom in Serena Joy s garden The red of the smile is the same as the red tulips in
Serena Joy s garden... (Atwood, 38). Red tulips symbolize a perfect love due to the
Slaughterhouse Five, By Kurt Vonnegut
War is hell goes the commonly used phrase. While conducted with a purpose in mind,
many believe war to bring nothing but violence and death. In the history of mankind
and combat, men have committed many abominable acts against one another as a
means to an end. The bombing of Dresden, Germany, one of these loathsome deeds,
while seldom mentioned and not widely known, remains one of the deadliest air raids
in history. Just as in all largely fatal events, the survivors reflect upon the unbearable
guilt and emotions they have experienced. Billy Pilgrim, the main protagonist In
Kurt Vonneguts novel Slaughterhouse Five, serves as Vonnegut s vehicle to
communicate his feelings and contemplations as a survivor. Throughout the story,
Pilgrim, or the reader encounters an animal that Vonnegut uses to convey the
range of emotions and incidents that humans are subject to as a result of war. In
the novel, a mysterious dog resides alongside fear and adversity. In multiple
instances throughout Pilgrim s story, a big dog barks when a character returns the
stare of terror or hardship. In an effort to save the life of a Billy Pilgrim, who, out
of fear, had lost the will to live, Roland Weary happens across the canine. ...trying to
find out what had happened to Billy....He passed under a low branch now. It hit the
top of his helmet with a clonk. Weary didn t hear it. Somewhere a big dog was
barking. Weary didn t hear that, either... Billy was terrified (Vonnegut 54 55). Billy

The Effects Of Breathing During Air ( Control Treatment )...
Figure 1. Compared effects of breathing in air (control treatment) and a simulated
dive (apnea in 10C water) on human heart rate (n=6). Bars represent the combined
mean heart rate of the subjects for both treatments over each measurement period.
Error bars represent 95% CI.
As seen in Figure 1, in the 15 seconds prior to treatment exposure, the mean heart
rates of the subjects were the same, with the control treatment of breathing in air at
85.311.7 bpm, and the simulated dive test treatment at 85.312.1 bpm. During the first
15 seconds of treatment exposure the mean heart rates decreased slightly with the
control treatment at 81.810.0 bpm, which was not significantly different from the test
treatment (80.59.0 bpm). The lowest mean heart rate was observed in the test
treatment between 15 and 30 seconds of treatment exposure (67.78.4 bpm), which did
not significantly differ from the control treatment that remained relatively constant
(81.311.2 bpm). The mean heart rates did not significantly differ between
measurement periods.
DISCUSSION
We hypothesized that humans would exhibit a diving response similar to aquatic
mammals and birds. If the proposed hypothesis is right, then we should observe a
decrease in heart rate from resting heart rate during test (simulated dive) treatment
exposure, and we should not observe any change in heart rate from resting heart rate
during control (breathing in air) treatment exposure. This can be explained by the fact
that the diving response,
Devive La Viva Hyperbole
For many years, people have noticed that one man with a lot of power will abuse it.
Viva La Viva is a poet about a king who use to be in power of everything but lost it
all. On the other hand, The Count Of Monte Cristo is about a man, Edmond Dantes,
who is betrayed by his friends, and gets sent to jail. Once he escapes, he seeks
revenge on them. In Viva La Vidaand The Count of Monte Cristo, the writers use of
hyperbole and imagery portrays the idea that too much power can cause one s
destruction.
Coldplay uses hyperbole to show how the king had abused his powers. The text
states, I used to rule the worldВЁ(Coldplay 1). When the poet exclaims how he used
to rule the world, he is exaggerating how important he was. Simply because, no ...

The poem, Viva La says, One minute I held the key/ Next the walls were closed on
me , (10 11 Coldplay). This shows how fast one s power can all be lost in a matter
of minutes. Dumas also gives great detail to create an image inside the reader s
head. The quote goes with the theme as he had a lot of power but then again lost it
all. Sight imagery is again used in Viva La Vida . The text states, Revolutionaries
wait/ for my head on a silver plate , (29 30 Dumas). This shows that the king is so
destruct because of the power he had, and now everyone wants him dead. This is
an exaggeration as only his head can t be on a platter. The author used this
hyperbole because, carrying a head on a silver plate is mocking the former leader.
The details that the author provides gives us a detailed image of how the ruler/king
is hated on by many others. The book, The Count of Monte Cristo as well uses
sight imagery too. The text states, Your two accomplices weren t so lucky: One of
them is insane and the other is dead , (522, Dumas). One can tell that the count has
so much power to which he can go as far as to ruin/kill people. This goes with the
theme stated because once again,a lot of power can get the best of many. The count
made mistakes that cannot be resolved anymore because power took over
Anne Sexton Woman
I have been her kind. (Sexton, lines 1 7)
Here, Sexton is not meaning that she has literally been a witch, but she empathizes
with the persecuted women of earlier centuries. When Sexton states that she is
braver at night and that she has done her hitch/over the plain houses, she is verbally
expressing that the tenebrosity is her only escape from the judging ocular perceivers
of people who lead impeccable, conventional lives in suburbia. (Sexton, lines 3 4).
The orator kens what it is relish to be the isolated witch who does not fit the typical
woman s mold, and who is a lonely thing that is cast out of society for not fitting in.
(Sexton, line 5). By saying that a woman like that is not a woman, quite, she is
exhibiting that people view women who are non conformist as flawed and not even
as legitimate women. In the second stanza, Sexton goes on to say that the speaker
has: Found the warm caves in the woods, Filled them with skillets, carvings, shelves,
Closets, silks, innumerable goods;
Fixed the suppers for the worms and the elves:
Whining, rearranging the disaligned.
A woman like that is misunderstood.
I have been her kind. (Sexton, lines 8 14) ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She seems to be unhappy with the long established, traditional image of a woman:
One who fixes the suppers for her family, rearranges the misaligned in her domicile,
and who is whiny and repining (Sexton, lines 11 13). In the same way that the witch
is isolated because of the stigmas annexed to her lifestyle, Sexton is verbalizing that
a housewife can be solitary and misunderstood as well because of the isolation that
emanates from her subordinate role in society. Just as the witch or outcast is
misconstrue as malevolent or manipulating, the housewife can be misread as a

Pampers Case Study
Pampers: Let s Wipe Baby Butts Pampers is an extremely well known business that
pioneered the technology that is disposable diapers. When one is watching
television, diaper advertisement are almost exclusive to disposable varieties. This
was not the case just fifty years ago during the era that Pampers first hit the market;
reusable cloth diapers were the preferred method of parents just two generations ago.
Pampershas revolutionized the family, economy, environment and culture as a whole
in western societies. Picture the heart warming scene of a grandfather changing his
infant grandson s diaperin the 1950s. Just as the baby is cute and charming as any
other, what is contained by his diapers is just as unsightly and unpleasant as any
other. Lucky for present day parents, this grandfather decided to use his engineering
mindset to create an easier and more sanitary method of diapers using his own
grandchildren as testers ( History 1). The grandfather described is Victor Mills. Mills
worked for Procter GambleCo. at this time and used his connections to the company
to create what is now known Pampers disposable diapers. Pampers first hit the
market in 1961 and have since changed parenting. In the 1960s, Pampers first began
new, inventive methods to keeping babies dry and comfortable. Then, in the 1970s,
Pampers replaced the pin with tape to improve safety and produced more varieties
such as toddler, newborn and premature infant sizes. The 1980s and 1990s saw even

The United States Vs. United Kingdom
The United States and the United Kingdom have both become industrialized
democracies, however by saying that it may seem as though they have many
similarities which is true, but there are many more differences in the political systems
they use and the way the states are governed. Just because United States and the
United Kingdomshare these similarities and differences in their Presidential System,
and the formation of their democracies, the United States is viewed by far as a
much weaker state due to their Presidential System, but this was all deliberate. In
Comparative Politics Domestic Responses to Global Challenges by Charles Hauss
the development of the United States and the United Kingdom becoming
democracies are very different. In the late 1700 s moving toward a democracyhad
been building for two hundred years. The New World and the individualism,
capitalism, Protestantism, and scientific revolution, was the new way of thinking.
Thomas Hobbes was one of these thinkers. After his death came the American
Revolution. Around the same time, Adam Smith s book, The Wealth of Nations
came out. People began to want political and economic freedom and with this came
laissez faire capitalism, which means allow to do. There was then two new ideas for
democratic thought. First the state should be limited. Second, rather than telling
people how to act in all areas of life, the state should serve as a referee that protects
the society from the arbitrary exercise of
Bring Back Flogging Analysis
Is Violence the Response to Criminals Actions? In Bring Back Flogging, the author,
Jeff Jacoby suggests that people should adopt some of the Puritans tactics to punish
criminals instead of putting them in prison. Jacoby is basing his claim on the use
of irony, logos, and ethos. According to Jeff Jacoby, a moment of humiliation is
better than a couple of years behind bars. I do not agree with Jeff Jacoby s argument
because the examples he gives and the way he refers to the topic incite readers to
violence, also during the development of the subject he is too contradictory with his
own opinions making his arguments unclear. To begin with, at the start of his article
Jeff Jacoby mentions old tactics of punishmentpursued by Puritans. At the same time,
the author is giving ideas of how to take justice into our own hands. For example, in
paragraph 13 Jacoby mentions, Their sanctions (Puritan s actions) were humiliating
and painful, but quick and cheap. Maybe we should readopt a few, basically the
author is suggesting we should punish criminals with our own hands. Consequently,
Jacoby declares on paragraph 6, ...a stint in prisonbecomes a sign of manhood, a
status of the symbol, now the author is claiming that the prisons are unworthy and
incarcerate people is not the solution because according to him there are better ways.
Besides, on paragraphs 2 and 3, Jeff Jacoby mentions four cases of people that were
punished by the Puritans. This group committed crimes that today
Play Hive Research Paper
According to The California Teaching and Certification Resource, every
kindergarten teacher should have the license to get the job. However, employees
of Play Hive are not required strictly about the license because it is not a
kindergarten. It is reasonable that they do not required kindergarten teacher license
when they are hiring people, because Play Hive LA is mainly a place for fun after
all. But when people consider it in different ways, they will find that referring the
state law to specific what the employees need to become good teachers will be useful
in training. For those interested in becoming a teacher(kindergarten teacher included)
in California, it is important to know how to obtain a California teaching license. It is

My Educational Goals and Philosophy Statement Essay
My Education Philosophy
I ve always believed very strongly in hard work, perseverance, strong moral
character. These traits to me are what exemplifies a superior teacher that has the
privilege to touch many lives and change the world we live in.
Hardwork is something that isn t artificial, or can t be bought. It s a very special
characteristic that sets people apart in the respect that it shows who want s to be
successful and make a difference and who doesn t. In being a teacher hardwork
comes with the job and it s important that the teacher understands that before going
into the profession. It requires a lot of time and patience when a student needs it

To be an effective teacherrequires perseverance , which is something that is
extremely important to the profession as a whole. Teaching at times can be very
stressful and frustrating and like any job it can be very easy to give up and quit
when times get tough or seem to be spiraling out of control. Children are very
sensitive with their feelings and emotions and sometimes the blame is put on you
the teacher by the student even though it may not be your fault in whatever
happened. Parents can be very hard to get along with as well and it requires a lot of
composure in explaining issues that may not be popular with the parent or child.
Perseverance is very important to a teacher s well being as far as staying on task and
coming up with new concepts that can better benefit the students as well as the
teacher.
Something that can be easily overlooked in being a teacher is the trait of being a
strong moral character . In the occupation field of teaching there will be times
when people will look to you for answers, or opinions that will benefit the teaching
environment as well as the curriculum, or will not benefit the teaching environment
and it s up to you to speak your mind in what you believe to be ethical, concise, and
why you made that particular decision in the first place. Having a strong moral
character shows others who you really are and what you truly stand for as an
educator. It also
The Effects Of Single Parent Home Research
For several years, the focus of much single parent home research has been
concentrated on households where the father is not present. Due to the prevalent
influence of various psychoanalytical theories, and the enormous amounts of female
headed households. Research shows that there are six general effects bestowed upon
children who live in single parenthomes; regardless of the reason for the single parent
status. The six general effects are:
Loss of concentration or attention
Delinquency and substance abuse
Withdraw from family and friends
A decline in academic scores and behavioral issues at school, and at home
Emotional outbursts, and often an increase in health issues
Severe anger issues (Hurtes, 2004).
These are just the general effects on some children being raised in a single parent
home. In addition to these general effects, there are more age specific effects on
some children who live in single parent homes. The following is a brief
summarization of some effects which children of different age ranges may
experience while living in a single parent home.
For children ages 3 5 years of age:
Regression to more infant like behavior
Feeling frightened, insecure, and angry

Copyright Law On The Planet
Only one thing is impossible for God: To find any sense in any copyright law on
the planet (Mark Twain). The concept of copyright in the United States has a large
history. The first form of copyright in the United States stems from Article 1,
Section 8, Clause 8 of the U.S. Constitution in the year 1787, where Congress shall
have power . . . to promote the progress of science and useful arts, by securing for
limited times to authors and inventors the exclusive right to their respective writings
and discoveries. These exclusive rights were originally extremely limited, as the first
CopyrightAct of 1790 only applied to maps, charts, and books. As time has advanced,
copyright practices in the United States have undergone several reforms, among the
most recent being the infamous Digital Millennium Copyright Act(DMCA) of 1998.
Said act updated United States law to the requirements of the World Intellectual
PropertyOrganization (WIPO), such as placing limitations on the liability of online
service providers for copyright violations made by users. The act, however, has been
a subject of controversy in recent times, as some content creators abuse it to control
access to their content. This is accomplished through methods such as copyright
trolling, in which the copyright holder produces works solely for the purpose of
litigation rather than distribution. Oftentimes, these practices are thought to be a
violation of fair use, which enables copyrighted work to be used without
Marine Ecosystem Causes of Degradation and Case

What is the Marine Ecosystem?
Marine ecosystems are among the largest of Earth s aquatic ecosystems. It covers
almost 70% of the earth s surface. They include oceans, salt marsh and intertidal
ecology, estuaries and lagoons, mangroves and coral reefs, the deep sea and the sea
floor. They can be contrasted with freshwater ecosystems, which have a lower salt
content.
Why is the Marine Ecosystem important?
Marine ecosystems are very important in to the overall health of both marine and
terrestrial environments. According to the World Resources Centre, coastal habitats
alone account for approximately 1/3 of all marine biological productivity, and

The pacific garbage patch
Hidden, tucked away in no man s land between Hawaii and San Francisco lies a
floating continent composed entirely of garbage. This environmentalist s nightmare
is at a staggering size twice the size of Texas. It is around 1400000 kmВІ, consisting
of mostly plastic and other waste matter, and is the largest landfill in the world. There
is roughly 3,340,000 pieces of rubbish/kmВІ with an average mass of 5.1kg/kmВІ. It
has numerous names like the Great Pacific Garbage Patch, the Eastern Garbage Patch
or the Pacific Trash Vortex.
Some experts believe that the floating continent actually consists of two patches,
Eastern and Western connected by a thin 6000km current called the Subtropical
Convergence Zone which itself consists of a strip of rubbish. Waste that can float
from all present day civilizations eventually end up at this island , sometimes after
periods of up to 12 years. Many animals such as sea birds, turtles jellyfish
mistakenly get tangled in the debris, eat the refuse or in the case of Hawaiian Green
Turtles, nest there. For example, the amount of all refuse Albatross feed their chicks
with is total of 5 tons of plastic a year.
On several occasions, some rubbish breaks free and ends up getting washed up on
the beaches of nearby Hawaiian
Augustine Of Hippo Influence
As bishop, he donated all of his land and gave his money to the poor. This made him
widely popular and often times more politically powerful than even the emperor.
He studied theology with Simplician, a presbyter of Rome. Using his new education,
along with his knowledge of Greek, he took the time to study the Old Testament and
Greek authors. He used all of this while preaching; his abilities impressed Augustine
of Hippo, who previously thought poorly of Christian preachers.
After meeting Ambrose, Augustine reevaluated himself and was forever changed. In
387, Ambrose baptized Augustine, who he had a great influence on. St. Monica,
Augustine s mother, loved Ambrose as an angel of Godwho uprooted her son from
his former ways and led him to
Narrative Essay On Who Am I
Who am I? What are the driving forces behind the decisions I make for myself and
for my children? The answers to these questions have been shaped by my
upbringing and my own personal interactions and experiences with the people who
have come in and out of my life and the community I live in. My values, morals,
beliefs, and cultural views have developed over time and continue to keep me
grounded while working with children and families with different ethnic
backgrounds. Before I discuss where I am, let me share my journey on how I got here.
Growing up in a poor, abusive, single parent, Caucasian home in a middle class
neighborhood has defiantly had a significant impact on the person I am today. I
would definitely consider my family to be one of large power distance. What my
mother said went, children were seen and not heard, and you were expected to
follow all rules and ask no questions. According to (Thorton, 2001) Children
growing up in single parent households are reported to obtain fewer years of
education, are more likely to drop out of school, have lower earnings in young
adulthood, and are more likely to be poor in adulthood than children from two
parent homes. While this may hold true for some children, I would like to think it
was the complete opposite for me. I knew from a very young age that I wanted my
life to be different, and I was the only one who could make it happen. I was
surrounded by a generation of adults who believed the most important thing was

His leadership, mainly by example due to his fitness and workrate helped England

Beckham s conversion from villain to hero happened in England s 2 2 draw
against Greece. Needing only one point from the match in order to qualify for the
World Cup, Beckham dragged an otherwise poor England side to qualification with
sheer determination and a perfectly executed, last minute free kick. Meanwhile,
taking the role of captain seems to have helped mature him, in both skill and
temperament. Beckham played in all England s matches at Euro 2004, but failed to
shine. He had his penalty saved by former Manchester United team mate Fabien
Barthez in his side s 2 1 defeat to France in their opening group game. Then, when
England s Quarter Final against hosts Portugal went to a penalty shootout, he was
the first England player to attempt a shot. Beckham fired his shot far over the
crossbar and England went on to lose the shoot out 6 5 after Englishman Darius
Vassell also missed. Beckham later blamed the miss on the poor state of the pitch, the

Pride and Prejudice and A Midsummer Night s Dream
First Impressions Revisited
The course of true love never did run smooth.
William Shakespeare, A Midsummer Night s Dream
Pride and Prejudice first appeared between 1796 and 1797 under the title, First
Impressions . At first, the novel was written anonymously; however, after Jane
Austen s death, the novel became publicly known to people. The novel itself is a
comedy of manners set in a quiet and charming rural England, between 1796 and
1813; to be exact, Pride and Prejudice is set amidst Napoleonic Wars, dating from
1797 up to 1815. In Austen s words, the novel was light and bright and sparkling .
The quote from William Shakespeare best describes the love stories of Jane Bennet

Darcy, the antagonist turned protagonist in the novel. His pride blinds his
judgment of people. Darcy judges people through their manners hence, because of
his dislike in Elizabeth s family manners; he separated Charles and Jane away from
each other, leaving Elizabeth s sister heartbroken. Austen s books are written with
satirical humor best represented by Mr. Collins and Lady Catherine de Bourgh.
Mr. Collins is a comical and pompous, snobbish clergyman living at Hunsford
parsonage near Rosings, the home of Lady Catherine de Bourgh. According to the
English law, since Mr. Bennet had no male children to inherit the state, Mr. Collins
is the rightful heir of the estate since he is a distant relative of Mr. Bennet. Mr.
Collins is a funny character in the novel due to his extremely long speeches and silly
formalities of no clear meaning. He is very proud of Lady Catherine and her
generosity in giving him the Hunsford parsonage.
A fortunate chance had recommended him to Lady Catherine de Bourgh when the
living of Hunsford was vacant; and the respect which he had felt for her high rank,
and his veneration for her as his patroness, mingling with very good opinion of
himself and his authority as a clergyman, made him altogether a mixture of pride and
obsequiousness, self importance and humility. (Austen and Jennings 67) Mr. Collins
long speeches do not represent the truth in general; it is his only means of making
people admire him.
Humans Are Destroying The Earth
How we as humans are destroying the Earth
There have been various changes taking place on the earth. Some of the changes have
been positive while others have been negative. Man has been associated with various
activities that have contributed to significant destruction of earth and species or
animals that occur in these areas. However, sometimes natural causes are associated
with the destruction of the environment. There are various ways in which man have
been associated with destruction of the environment. Some of the common ways in
which destruction has taken place is through pollution such as release of harmful
gases and overuse of resources. Others include destruction of habitat such as clearing
of forests and alteration of climate associated with human activities. However, there
are also ways that have been outlined as possible in averting changes that have taken
place on earth. Such changes may include the use of alternative energy such as the
biogas. A focus on how man has been involved in the destruction of the planet at an
alarming rate will help in highlighting ways to overcome such effects.
There are various ways in which human is involved in the destruction of the earth.
The damage has been associated with the increasing human population. This has
been linked to human looking for more space to settle and also carry out other
activities. As a man looks for space, he is involved in razing large parts of the forest
that may involve shifting of organisms from one
Lower Legal Drinking Age Essays
Since the states increased their drinking age to 21 in 1987, every citizen of this
country between the ages of 18 and 20 have been oppressed by the very people
elected to power to protect their rights. It is evident that the legal drinking age
among Americans should be lowered to the legal age of adulthood, 18 years. At this
age, any American can marry without their Parent s approval and can move out of
their guardian s house and live on their own. Why are these adults deprived of their
right to consume alcohol? A police officerunexpectedly arrived at a party where many
young adultswere drinking alcoholic beverages. He asked to see two young
gentlemen s identification to prove that they were of legal age to be consuming. Both

Is it plausible to assume that these adults are going to just give up their civil
liberties so easily? An examination of East Carolina University students intentions
regarding their behavior following passage of the 21 year age drinking law
revealed that only 6% intended to stop drinking, 70% planned to change their
drinking location, 21% expected to use a false or borrowed identification to obtain
alcohol and 22% intended to use other drugs (Hanson, The Legal Drinking Age par.
4). The current law is simply not feasible. It infringes upon millions of American s
constitutional rights while inadvertently increasing the amount of alcohol that is
consumed, and offering a proposed solution that clearly will not be achieved.
Others have proposed that it might be more acceptable and reasonable to allow
people within the ages 18 and 20 to drink only when in the presence of their legal
guardians, but this is obviously not realistic in the least. No parent can be held
responsible for their son or daughter to any further extent when they become a legal
adult. Changing the minimum drinking age to 18 is the only honest and justifiable
resolution that will be reached. This paper s intention is not to argue that
Strange Fruit Sexism
Strange Fruit by Billie Holiday Billie Holiday was a well known jazz singer who
was born in Pennsylvania on April 7, 1915. She was also known as Elanora Fagon
in which unfortunately had fallen victim in her life towards the addiction of heroin.
In conjunction with her addiction, she developed a criminal record due to her
numerous arrests relating to her drug abuse and prostitution. She eventually
checked herself into an institution to help break her addiction. However, at the
young age of forty four she died from congestion of the lungs which had stemmed
from having heart failure. Billie s life was filled with trials and tribulations.
Throughout her life she had dealt with racism, sexism, and poverty. Billie dropped
out of school in the fifth grade to run errands in a brothel, and then at the age of
twelve she was arrested for prostitution. Around 1930 she started singing in local
clubs. One of her most popular and intense songs was Strange Fruitwritten in 1939....

Marx And Engels, The Manifesto Of The Communist Party
Marx and Engels , The Manifesto of the Communist Party
The Manifesto of the Communist party was written by Karl Marx and Friedrich
Engels in 1848. Karl Marx was a German philosopher, economist, sociologist,
journalist and revolutionary socialist. Friedrich Engels was also a German
philosopher, social scientist, and journalist. Friedrich Engels helped came up with the
Marxist theory alongside Karl Marx, they also worked on the Communist manifesto
which gave a general insight to the working class, it tells us how people from the
middle class went about doing things from the perspective of the middle class man.
The book, The Manifesto of the Communist party further details the emergence of
capitalism and also telling us or predicting about the future of capitalism. They also
talked about the class struggles of society and what brought about these tensions. In
their own day, the power and class struggles was between the Bourgeoisie and
Proletariat.
Furthermore, the Bourgeoisie were the ones who owned the means of production
such machinery, factories and their own main source of revenue was profit from
their production. Whereas the Proletariat are the workers who provide their services
or labor for a wage. The struggles between these two parties brought about change

Forms Of Violence Against Women
Forms of Violence Against Women
Introduction
In Pakistan, women live in a confined world that is structured by family, tribal, and
religious customs. As such, women are subjected to not only violence but also
discrimination on a daily basis. This has been brought about by the interpretation of
Islam, the main religion in the country, which views women as persons needing
maximum protection. This consequently leads to their oppression emotionally,
physically, and mentally. They face various forms of discrimination, inequality, and
violence in almost each and every aspect of life.
In Pakistan, brutality on females is not conceived as a dangerous, grave violation
of human rights. Instead, it is regarded as one of the many normal aspects of life.
Pakistani women live in fear since they are expected to remain obedient and
submissive to social traditions and norms. Most of the cases of ferocity that are
directed towards women take place in homes, workplaces, and political podiums.
Based on the above situation, this paper identifies and discusses exhaustively
different forms and causes of viciousness against women in Pakistan. It also examines
some of the widespread impacts of the same to the victims, society, and country at
large. Finally, it explores the immediate possible remedies and lasting solutions to this
problem.
Firstly, violence against women takes different dimensions. In other words, there are
many forms of violence and discrimination against women and girls which

and even becomes his spiritual advisor. It is through these interactions that she
begins to have sympathy for those who are supposed to face a similar penalty,
especially when she finds out that sometimes the people who are convicted are not
the ones who committed the offense. Prejean also looks at the issue from the
morality that is presented in the bible. She states, Do you really believe that Jesus,

aware of the fact that it is essential to carry out proper investigations especially when
the lives of people are involved. In the book, she mentions... That, I believe, is what it

Is It Proper to place someone in jail for a seatbelt...
States across the nation have seat belt laws in place that make it a requirement for
drivers and passengers in vehicles that are being operated on public streets to wear
some sort of safety belt. In 1998, 41,471 people were killed in 6,334,000 reported
motor vehicle accidents in the United States. Seat belts are estimated to save 9,500
lives each year, and statistics show a higher degree of seat belt use in states that
aggressively enforce seat belt laws. The laws, as well as the punishmentsavailable for
violation of the laws vary by state. In most states, however, it is considered a

violationsis a good question and has been... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When trying to determine whether or not it is proper to put someone in jail for
violating the seat belt law courts must examine the state s statutes to determine
whether or not an arrest could be deemed a violation of the citizens Fourth
Amendment rights. The Fourth Amendment provides the right of the people to be
secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches
and seizures, shall not be violated, and no warrants shall issue, but upon probable
cause, supported by oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be
searched, and the persons or things to be seized. Historically courts have evaluated
these cases by first determining if probable cause existed to make the arrest. Next,
they look at the reasonableness of the arrest, with reasonableness being measured as
an objective standard, not by the arresting officers state of mind.
In the case of Dunaway v. New York the court stated that the probable cause standard
applies to all arrests, without the need to balance the interests and circumstances
involved in a particular situation. In other words, if and officer arrests an individual
whom he or she believes to have committed even a minor crime in his presence there
has been no violation committed. The cases of both Whren v. United States and

Abraham Lincoln s Assassination
President Abraham Lincoln was the first United States president ever to be
assassinated while in office. He was president during the Civil War and had many
people that did not like him. John Wilkes Booth was one of those people and was the
man responsible for the Presidents death. The following is about Abraham Lincoln,
John Wilkes Booth, Booth s plan for Lincoln, the President s assassination, Booth s
capture and how it affected history. Abraham Lincoln was born February 12, 1809
in Hardin County, Kentucky. He was the second child of Thomas and Nancy
Hanks Lincoln. In 1818, his mother died while he was just nine years old. He had
an older sister named Sarah and a brother name Thomas who died as an infant.
Lincoln had very little education, he only attended about one year of school in the
classroom. He loved to read books and was known to have walked miles to borrow
one. Lincoln really disliked the hard work living in the frontier and so many
people thought he was lazy and that he read to get out of work. He tried work as a
rail splitter, flatboatman, storekeeper, postmaster and surveyor before he became
interested in law. He read law books on his own and in 1836, passed the bar exam.
He moved to Springfield, Illinois and practiced law there. By now he was also very
interested in politics and served four successful terms in the Illinois House of
Representatives. On November 6, 1860, Lincoln was elected the 16th president of the

Effects Of Smoking In Restaurants
Smoking in restaurants
One thousand Americans stop smoking everyday by dying said by anonymous. If
smoking is killing people every day, why would we want someone to poison
ourselves with deadly air? When we are in a restaurant and someone is smoking we
are breathing the same air that they are. Even though their lips are on the cancer stick
the same toxins they are breathing in is being released in the air around them.
Without proper ventilation (open fresh air), the people around the light cigarette
would be breathing in those same toxins and poisons, which is second hand smoking.
Smoking in a restaurant is not only harmful to the one smoking but to those around
them. Smoking can cause loss of appetite, senses, side effects from second
smoking and most of all the rights of a nonsmoker to not be presented to the
smoke. When going into a restaurant, a person wants to enjoy their meal and time.
Especially if they are going and spending money on the luxury. But did you know
that smoking can cause loss of appetite and loss of senses? When someone is
smoking they ingest toxins such as tar and carbine monoxide, which causes the loss
of appetite and senses? So, if someone is going to a restaurant they want to digest the
food and drinks that they plan to order not toxins that causes loss of appetite and
senses. In the book Truth About Smoking , it concludes about the harms of smoking
and the harm that smoking has on the mouth. Smoking causes gum disease, staining
and loss of teeth as well as bad breath. When tar, the solid particles in tobacco smoke
that collect in the lungs, mixes with saliva in the mouth, it coats the teeth. Teeth take
on a brownish color, and flat surfaces where the tar can accumulate can even become
black, are all results of smoke staining teeth. Which can also cause wear on the biting
surface of the teeth which leads to teeth decay. With gum disease the gums recede,
they expose the roots of the teeth. The bacteria in the gum pockets don t just attack
the tissue of the gums, they weaken the bone and the connective tissue that holds the
teeth in place. The residue of cigarette smoke remains on the breath, including the tar
particles that stain the teeth. What happens is Saliva washes
Wolf Spider Predation
ABSTRACT
In Cautious versus desperado males: predation risk affects courtship intensity but
not female choice in a wolf spider the courtship displays of the wolf spider, Pardosa
milvina were investigated. The wolf spider s courtship display in males includes
raising their legs and shaking their bodies. The rate of a males leg raises is a signal of
the assets the male has, females that mate with males with quicker leg raises had
more progeny and these left the egg sac faster and lived longer. Rypstra et al.
wanted to determine if male wolf spiders that differ in assets and quality would
behave differently under the risk of predation and wondered if the differences in
reactions would affect how females choose their mates. This study consisted of two
experiments, in the first experiment they determined that the symmetry of the front
legs of males was related to their rate of leg raises, this was used as a measure of
male quality. They used this measure in the second experiment when they explored
how Tigrosa helluo predator cues changed the males courtship behaviour. It was
determined that predation cues did not have an effect on whether mating happened
between males and females and a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I believe that higher quality males should perform their courtship display at a lower
intensity when predator cues are present, while lower quality males should increase
their displays. This is because higher quality males long term reproductive options
are more evident and lower quality males may become desperados and showoff
whatever assets they have in a desperate attempt to convince a female to mate with
them. If females can judge whether a male is of high or low quality then even when
there is risk of predation, they will mate with the males that are of higher quality

The media is to entertain, but more important to inform and to avoid conflicts of
interest. News markets would love to earn the respect of their viewers. Providing
the truth and the most breaking news this improves their ratings. Once the news
media violates that trust people will find another form to get their news. The
media has a huge influence on the public opinion. The media and their owners
need to be held to high levels of accountability. They should stay in compliance
with the laws, codes, and regulations. The legal and ethical issues for the online
community are the same as if it were not online. Oftentimes it is easy to violate
these online than if gathering information from the textbook or encyclopedia. It
can very easy to post a picture and if this picture has a copyright then it would be a

The History of Canada
The History of Canada Canada is a nation located in the upper region of the North
American continent. The land of Canada had a history dating back to before the
founding of said country as an independent sovereign nation. Events that sparked
involvement with the affairs other nations began before and during the war of
eighteen twelve. The political unit of Canadaalso had some influential political
figures, a prime example being Pierre Elliott Trudeau who was the prime minister
of Canada for sixteen years and the people of that nation dearly admired him even
before he was even elected to be the prime minister. Canada has an interesting
history and a culture that is not dissimilar to that of the United States. When the
Canadians began their history as a united sovereign nation they had gotten into and
out of the war of eighteen twelve. Canada was home to major battlegrounds during
the war of eighteen twelve and a prime target to the newly founded United States
going at war with England; the latter of which being the imperialist power that ruled
over the region that is modern day Canada. The young provinces of Upper Canada,
New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island had scarcely established themselves
before there were signs of serious trouble (War of 1812: An Introduction). The
Americans had a strong sense of imperialism and believed that Canada should have
been taken during their revolution which is one of the many causes of the battles in

deadly civil war and subsequent reconstruction, rapid industrialization in the gilded

broadened women s involvement in various social reform activities such as

information about jobs and real estate and banking and investment. But the tools of
economics can be just as easily applied to subjects that are more well, more
interesting. (Dubner, Levitt 11). That is exactly what this book is all about, not just
the value of money but the way resources are managed and how different factors
affect one another. In Freakonomics, Levitt and Dubner collaborate to explore the
hidden side of everything (Dubner, Levitt 1). Through this writing, the two men
evaluate everyday situations in life and ask questions that have not yet
Ww2 American Women
The lives of American women were significantly changed both in good ways and
bad, during and after the era of World War II. Although World War II was, and still
is today, considered an unforgettable tragedy, there were many benefits to the war
because of the advantages it gave to women at the time. The war gave women the
benefits of new occupational opportunities, fashion changes, and changes of views
towards women. However, amidst all these benefits, their lives were affected in
some bad ways as well, such as the cause of family life hardships, constant labor,
and loss of occupations after the war. One factor of women s lives that changed as a
result of World War II was fashion. It all began with the invention of nylon in 1939.

Once World War II began, America was in desperate need of workers, so this gave
women a food chance to find high paying jobs. For example, about 350,000 women
were able to serve in the U.S. Armed Forces during World War II. There was an
increase of job offers for women ranging from service pilots, military doctors,
politicians, factory workers, and participation in the Armed Forces (Yellin 112,
299). Between 1940 and 1945, the female percentage of the U.S. workforce
increased from 27 percent to nearly 37 percent, and by 1945 nearly one out of every
four married women worked outside the home ( History 1). If there is one person to
thank for the new job opportunities, it is none other than the famous Rosie the
Riveter. This well known fictional woman served not only to promote the changes of
fashion during the war, but was also used as a tool for recruiting women to work,
especially in the Armed Forces, and it was a success. In movies, newspapers,
posters, photographs, articles, and even a Norman Rockwell pained Saturday
Evening Post cover, the Rosie the Riveter campaign stressed the patriotic need for
women to enter the work force and they did, in huge numbers ( History 1). Women
began to get involved in organizations women in the earlier years were never
imagined to work as such as the Women s Army Corps (WAC) and Women s Air
force Service Pilots (WASP). More than 310,000 women worked in the U.S.
aircraft industry in 1943, representing 65 percent of the industry s total workforce
(compared to just 1 percent in the pre war years) ( History 1). World War II offered
women a chance to be more involved in the military and any high paying occupation
that was considered too manly before then, because of the wider range of job offers (

The Case Of Legal Drinking Age
The final situation I have had concerning unclear boundaries involved me and a
professor. This individual was someone I had grown to know and respect and took
several courses under. The incident occurred after I had graduated from Western
Carolina University with my bachelor s degrees while I was living in Cullowhee
over the summer. I was invited to the professor s house along with another former
student to eat dinner with him and his wife. While we were eating the meal, the
professor gave me and the other student a glass of wine to go with dinner. Even
though I was of legal drinking age and was no longer a student of the professor s, it
felt strange to have a professor provide me alcohol.
Also, I felt uncomfortable being in the professor s home since it was the first time I
had socialized with a professor outside of a school environment. I later discussed the
event with the other student to inquire if the situation also made her uncomfortable.
The individual disclosed that she did not feel uncomfortable since this was not her
first time having dinner with the professor and his wife. I did not talk about how
this incident made me feel with my professor. The reason the boundaries were
unclear in this situation was that there was a multiple relationship. I was now the
professor s former student as well as an individual who had a social relationship with
the professor.
Unlike the two previous examples, I was not the individual with a position of power.
Since the second person

  • 2. Case Study Alzheimer s Disease A Look at Alzheimer s Disease: Onset, Care, and Treatment At some point in our lives we have probably all known someone that had or has dementia. Dementia is a generalized term that refers to the progressive, irreversible decline in mental function. Dementia is a disease that not only affects the patient but also affects the patient s loved ones. Caring for a loved one with dementia can be very difficult and heart breaking but there are lots of resources to help. Dementia is caused by irreversible damage to the patient s brain cells and the cells ability to communicate with one another. There are no specific tests to diagnose dementia. Patients are diagnosed based on a careful medical history, a physical, blood work, and talking to a doctor ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, there are treatments, both drug and non drug, that can slow the progression of symptoms. Drug therapies include cholinesterase inhibitors and NMDA receptor antagonists. Different medications are prescribed at different stages of the disease. Donepezil (Aricept), which prevent the breakdown of acetylcholine, a chemical in the brain that helps with learning and memory, is a cholinesterase inhibitor that can be prescribed to treat a patient at any stage of the disease. Although Aricept can be used at any stage, drugs like Rivastigmine (Exelon) and Galantamine (Razadyne), also cholinesterase inhibitors, are only approved to treat the disease when it is mild or moderate. Memantine (Namenda) is a NMDA receptor antagonists that is used to treat moderate to severe Alzheimer s and improves some patient s ability to complete daily tasks. Namzaric is a drug that combines the cholinesterase inhibitor, donepezil (Aricept), and NMDA receptor antagonists, memantine (Namenda), in one drug. Along with medications that help with mental symptoms there are medications like tricyclic antidepressants (trazodone), benzodiazepines (lorazepam), antipsychotics (risperidone), and sleeping pills (zolpidem), that help with sleep issues that come with Alzheimer s. Alzheimer s disease is a complicated disease that research is still trying to figure out. Although age is the greatest risk factor,
  • 3. The Traversal Of The Infinite Finiteness has to do with the existence of boundaries. Intuitively, we feel that where there is a separation, a border, a threshold there is bound to be at least one thing finite out of a minimum of two. This, of course, is not true. Two infinite things can share a boundary. Infinity does not imply symmetry, let alone isotropy. An entity can be infinite to its left and bounded on its right. Moreover, finiteness can exist where no boundaries can. Take a sphere: it is finite, yet we can continue to draw a line on its surface infinitely. The boundary , in this case, is conceptual and arbitrary: if a line drawn on the surface of a sphere were to reach its starting point then it is finite. Its starting point is the boundary,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The second thesis is that every substance is made up of simpler substances. The two mathematical antinomies relate to the infinite. The answer to the first is: Since the world does not exist in itself (detached from the infinite regression), it exists unto itself neither as a finite whole nor as an infinite whole. Indeed, if we think about the world as an object, it is only logical to study its size and origins. But in doing so, we attribute to it features derived from our thinking, not affixed by any objective reality. Kant made no serious attempt to distinguish the infinite from the infinite regression series, which led to the antinomies. Paradoxes are the offspring of problems with language. Philosophers used infinite regression to attack both the notions of finiteness (Zeno) and of infinity. Ryle, for instance, suggested the following paradox: voluntary acts are caused by wilful acts. If the latter were voluntary, then other, preceding, wilful acts will have to be postulated to cause them and so on ad infinitum and ad nauseam. Either the definition is wrong (voluntary acts are not caused by wilful acts) or wilful acts are involuntary. Both conclusions are, naturally, unacceptable. Infinity leads to unacceptable conclusions is the not so hidden message. Zeno used infinite series to attack the notion of finiteness and to demonstrate that finite things are made of infinite quantities of ever smaller things. Anaxagoras said that there is no smallest
  • 4. Sherman Alexie s Use Of Diction And Syntax Sherman Alexie uses diction and syntax to show that if there aren t any legal consequences for a bad action, there will always be another kind of consequence. In the short story there is a young man who is not a very good hunter, misses frequently, and one day he hit something, he walked down to it and found out he accidentally shot a person. The man hides the body and doesn t tell anyone; years went by and no one ever found out. After the author shot the man he explains his thoughts as, For the next year, I was terrified that the body would be discovered. I scanned the newspaper for missing men. Missing criminals. Missing drug dealers. The author uses diction here when he talks about his feelings, he says terrified. The word terrified has a much stronger... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Sherman Alexie then describes the man s guilt as, But the skull was only a reminder that I killed a man. It is proof that I had lived and would die without magnificence. God, I wanted to be forgiven, but an apology offered to a dead man is only a selfish apology to yourself. The author could have just stopped with the skull reminded him that he killed a man but he continues to describe how he felt. He says that he had lived but died without magnificence. The author is basically saying that the man lived, but did not really live, he died actually living . Then he starts the last sentence with God, this has a very strong meaning. When someone says God it usually means that they are praying, in this occasion he is just using it to say like all I wanted, but it also has another meaning that could be he is praying to just be forgiven. He knows that he can t apologize to a dead man and he doesn t want to die a guilty man so the best he can do is pray for forgiveness. These examples help to show that although he did not suffer a legal consequence, he still lived with the guilt of killing a man and was not able to get over

  • 6. The Crucible And The Handmaid s Tale Analysis In the books The Crucible by Arthur Miller and The Handmaid s Tale by Margaret Atwood truth is large concept. Throughout the books truth is used to define the perception and the reality through key symbols that go above and beyond an object. In The Crucible The Bible plays an immense part in shaping characters characteristics, also in The Handmaid s Tale it shapes one of the main motifs of the story. In the history of mankind and combat, men have committed many abominable acts against one another as a means to an end. The bombing of Dresden, Germany, one of these loathsome deeds, while seldom mentioned and not widely known, remains one of the deadliest air raids in history. Just as in all largely fatal events, the survivors reflect upon the unbearable guilt and emotions they have experienced. Billy Pilgrim, the main protagonist In Kurt Vonneguts novel Slaughterhouse Five, serves as Vonnegut s vehicle to communicate his feelings and contemplations as a survivor. Throughout the story, Pilgrim, or the reader encounters an animal that Vonnegut uses to convey the range of emotions and incidents that humans are subject to as a result of war. Compared effects of breathing in air (control treatment) and a simulated dive (apnea in 10C water) on human heart rate (n=6). Bars represent the combined mean heart rate of the subjects for both treatments over each measurement period. Error bars represent 95% CI. As seen in Figure 1, in the 15 seconds prior to treatment exposure, the mean heart rates of the subjects were the same, with the control treatment of breathing in air at 85.311.7 bpm, and the simulated dive test treatment at 85.312.1 bpm. During the first 15 seconds of treatment exposure the mean heart rates decreased slightly with the control treatment at 81.810.0 bpm, which was not significantly different from the test treatment (80.59.0 bpm). The lowest mean heart rate was observed in the test treatment between 15 and 30 seconds of treatment exposure (67.78.4 bpm), which did not significantly differ from the control treatment that remained relatively constant (81.311.2 bpm). The mean heart rates did not significantly differ between measurement periods. DISCUSSION We hypothesized that humans would exhibit a diving response similar to aquatic mammals and birds. If the proposed hypothesis is right, then we should observe a decrease in heart rate from resting heart rate during test (simulated dive) treatment exposure, and we should not observe any change in heart rate from resting heart rate during control (breathing in air) treatment exposure. This can be explained by the fact that the diving response,

Sight imagery is again used in Viva La Vida . The text states, Revolutionaries wait/ for my head on a silver plate , (29 30 Dumas). This shows that the king is so destruct because of the power he had, and now everyone wants him dead. This is an exaggeration as only his head can t be on a platter. The author used this hyperbole because, carrying a head on a silver plate is mocking the former leader. The details that the author provides gives us a detailed image of how the ruler/king is hated on by many others. The book, The Count of Monte Cristo as well uses sight imagery too. The text states, Your two accomplices weren t so lucky: One of them is insane and the other is dead , (522, Dumas). When Sexton states that she is braver at night and that she has done her hitch/over the plain houses, she is verbally expressing that the tenebrosity is her only escape from the judging ocular perceivers of people who lead impeccable, conventional lives in suburbia. (Sexton, lines 3 4). The orator kens what it is relish to be the isolated witch who does not fit the typical woman s mold, and who is a lonely thing that is cast out of society for not fitting in. In the second stanza, Sexton goes on to say that the speaker has: Found the warm caves in the woods, Filled them with skillets, carvings, shelves, Closets, silks, innumerable goods; Fixed the suppers for the worms and the elves: Whining, rearranging the disaligned. In Bring Back Flogging, the author, Jeff Jacoby suggests that people should adopt some of the Puritans tactics to punish criminals instead of putting them in prison. Jacoby is basing his claim on the use of irony, logos, and ethos. According to Jeff Jacoby, a moment of humiliation is better than a couple of years behind bars. I do not agree with Jeff Jacoby s argument because the examples he gives and the way he refers to the topic incite readers to violence, also during the development of the subject he is too contradictory with his own opinions making his arguments unclear. To begin with, at the start of his article Jeff Jacoby mentions old tactics of punishmentpursued by Puritans. At the same time, the author is giving ideas of how to take justice into our own hands. For example, in paragraph 13 Jacoby mentions, Their sanctions (Puritan s actions) were humiliating and painful, but quick and cheap. Maybe we should readopt a few, basically the author is suggesting we should punish criminals with our own hands. Consequently, Jacoby declares on paragraph 6, ...a stint in prisonbecomes a sign of manhood, a status of the symbol, now the author is claiming that the prisons are unworthy and incarcerate people is not the solution because according to him there are better ways. The concept of copyright in the United States has a large history. The first form of copyright in the United States stems from Article 1, Section 8, Clause 8 of the U.S. Constitution in the year 1787, where Congress shall have power . . . to promote the progress of science and useful arts, by securing for limited times to authors and inventors the exclusive right to their respective writings and discoveries. These exclusive rights were originally extremely limited, as the first CopyrightAct of 1790 only applied to maps, charts, and books. As time has advanced, copyright practices in the United States have undergone several reforms, among the most recent being the infamous Digital Millennium Copyright Act(DMCA) of 1998. Said act updated United States law to the requirements of the World Intellectual PropertyOrganization (WIPO), such as placing limitations on the liability of online service providers for copyright violations made by users. The act, however, has been a subject of controversy in recent times, as some content creators abuse it to control access to their content. This is accomplished through methods such as copyright trolling, in which the copyright holder produces works solely for the purpose of litigation rather than distribution. Oftentimes, these practices are thought to be a violation of fair use, which enables copyrighted work to be used without

As such, women are subjected to not only violence but also discrimination on a daily basis. This has been brought about by the interpretation of Islam, the main religion in the country, which views women as persons needing maximum protection. This consequently leads to their oppression emotionally, physically, and mentally. They face various forms of discrimination, inequality, and violence in almost each and every aspect of life. It also examines some of the widespread impacts of the same to the victims, society, and country at large. Finally, it explores the immediate possible remedies and lasting solutions to this problem. Historically courts have evaluated these cases by first determining if probable cause existed to make the arrest. Next, they look at the reasonableness of the arrest, with reasonableness being measured as an objective standard, not by the arresting officers state of mind. In the case of Dunaway v. New York the court stated that the probable cause standard applies to all arrests, without the need to balance the interests and circumstances involved in a particular situation. In other words, if and officer arrests an individual whom he or she believes to have committed even a minor crime in his presence there has been no violation committed. The cases of both Whren v. He was president during the Civil War and had many people that did not like him. John Wilkes Booth was one of those people and was the man responsible for the Presidents death. The following is about Abraham Lincoln, John Wilkes Booth, Booth s plan for Lincoln, the President s assassination, Booth s capture and how it affected history. Abraham Lincoln was born February 12, 1809 in Hardin County, Kentucky. He was the second child of Thomas and Nancy Hanks Lincoln. In 1818, his mother died while he was just nine years old. He had an older sister named Sarah and a brother name Thomas who died as an infant. Lincoln had very little education, he only attended about one year of school in the classroom. He loved to read books and was known to have walked miles to borrow one. Lincoln really disliked the hard work living in the frontier and so many people thought he was lazy and that he read to get out of work. He tried work as a rail splitter, flatboatman, storekeeper, postmaster and surveyor before he became interested in law. He read law books on his own and in 1836, passed the bar exam. He moved to Springfield, Illinois and practiced law there. By now he was also very interested in politics and served four successful terms in the Illinois House of Representatives. On November 6, 1860, Lincoln was elected the 16th president of the United

If smoking is killing people every day, why would we want someone to poison ourselves with deadly air? When we are in a restaurant and someone is smoking we are breathing the same air that they are. Even though their lips are on the cancer stick the same toxins they are breathing in is being released in the air around them. Without proper ventilation (open fresh air), the people around the light cigarette would be breathing in those same toxins and poisons, which is second hand smoking. Smoking in a restaurant is not only harmful to the one smoking but to those around them. Smoking can cause loss of appetite, senses, side effects from second smoking and most of all the rights of a nonsmoker to not be presented to the smoke. When going into a restaurant, a person wants to enjoy their meal and time. Especially if they are going and spending money on the luxury. But did you know that smoking can cause loss of appetite and loss of senses? When someone is smoking they ingest toxins such as tar and carbine monoxide, which causes the loss of appetite and senses? So, if someone is going to a restaurant they want to digest the food and drinks that they plan to order not toxins that causes loss of appetite and senses. In the book Truth About Smoking , it concludes about the harms of smoking and the harm that smoking has on the mouth. Smoking causes gum disease, staining and loss of teeth as well as bad breath. When tar, the solid particles in tobacco smoke that collect in the lungs, mixes with saliva in the mouth, it coats the teeth. Teeth take on a brownish color, and flat surfaces where the tar can accumulate can even become black, are all results of smoke staining teeth. Which can also cause wear on the biting surface of the teeth which leads to teeth decay. With gum disease the gums recede, they expose the roots of the teeth. The bacteria in the gum pockets don t just attack the tissue of the gums, they weaken the bone and the connective tissue that holds the teeth in place. The residue of cigarette smoke remains on the breath, including the tar particles that stain the teeth. What happens is Saliva washes

Wolf Spider Predation ABSTRACT In Cautious versus desperado males: predation risk affects courtship intensity but not female choice in a wolf spider the courtship displays of the wolf spider, Pardosa milvina were investigated. The wolf spider s courtship display in males includes raising their legs and shaking their bodies. The rate of a males leg raises is a signal of the assets the male has, females that mate with males with quicker leg raises had more progeny and these left the egg sac faster and lived longer. Rypstra et al. wanted to determine if male wolf spiders that differ in assets and quality would behave differently under the risk of predation and wondered if the differences in reactions would affect how females choose their mates. This study consisted of two experiments, in the first experiment they determined that the symmetry of the front legs of males was related to their rate of leg raises, this was used as a measure of male quality. They used this measure in the second experiment when they explored how Tigrosa helluo predator cues changed the males courtship behaviour. Economics is above all a science of measurement. It comprises an extraordinarily powerful and flexible set of tools that can reliably assess a thicket of information to determine the effect of any one factor, or even the whole effect. That s what the economy is, after all: a thicket of information about jobs and real estate and banking and investment. But the tools of economics can be just as easily applied to subjects that are more well, more interesting. (Dubner, Levitt 11). That is exactly what this book is all about, not just the value of money but the way resources are managed and how different factors affect one another. The individual disclosed that she did not feel uncomfortable since this was not her first time having dinner with the professor and his wife.
