Music Video: Planning
What were we doing
last week?
Today
You will take the knowledge you have previously
learnt about pre-production and music video
production and continue develop your plans for a
music video.
By the end of today, you
 MUST identify planning which you need to
complete
 SHOULD develop your idea for a music
video through pre-production planning
 COULD work independently and manage
your time and productivity
What is pre-production?
Why do we need to conduct
planning for a video production?
What do we need to plan for?
IDEAS
EQUIPMENT
TIME
LOCATION
CAST &
CREW
FINANCE
What do we use a storyboard
for?
How do we plan how much money we
will need for our production?
Why is it important to plan our
finances?
What planning document do we need to do
for our locations, and why?
How do we plan our time?
Today
You will continue to develop your music video
idea for Florence + The Machines ‘Heartlines’ by
creating the pre-production planning documents
you need.
Music video planning
You will need to create pre-production planning for the
track, including storyboards, production schedules,
milestones, location recces, budgets, filming permissions
etc…
Task 1
Working alone identify all the planning you need to
complete on your pre-production checklist . Tick off any of
the work you have already completed.
Set yourself a target for today; what piece of planning
work are you going to work on. Will you start it or finish it?
Will it be a rough draft, or do you want it to be the final
version?
Task 2
Begin working towards your target, developing your idea
through your planning. If you meet your target, what
should you do?
Plenary: ideas factory
In groups of 4, pitch your idea to the others. Explain to
them your music videos basic idea and what different
styles and techniques you would use to make your video.
Share your storyboard with your peers, and use it to sell
them your idea.
Next week
You will continue to develop your ideas for your music
video, applying the pre-production skills you have learnt
so far to continue planning your idea.
You should continue to develop your ideas outside of the
lesson.
