In this workshop, students will develop concepts for 3 short film ideas through research and apply idea generation strategies. Over the next 3 weeks, they will work in small groups to produce a 2-minute short film based on the theme "Hunter" for the Jump Cuts film festival. Students must submit pre-production documents and their film cannot contain dialogue. The workshop emphasizes keeping ideas simple and realistic given the time constraints. Students should be prepared to work outside of class time to complete filming by mid-December.

A comprehensive revision guide to the current WJEC GCSE Film Studies Paper 1, focusing on Hollywood films. This revision guide and workbook focuses on Superhero films, the film industry, how movies are marketed, has explanations and guides as to how the exam works and a series of exercises, worksheets and bespoke tasks for students. I've used this with my own students for the last 2 years and have had some great feedback from it. However, as with all of my resources, please note that it's by no means a definitive guide and there is plenty that could be improved or developed.

The French Revolution, which began in 1789, was a period of radical social and political upheaval in France. It marked the decline of absolute monarchies, the rise of secular and democratic republics, and the eventual rise of Napoleon Bonaparte. This revolutionary period is crucial in understanding the transition from feudalism to modernity in Europe.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

2. TODAY
In todays workshop you will be;
• applying your knowledge of concepting to create and
develop 3 ideas for screenplays
• Conducting initial research for each of these ideas.
3. BY THE END OF TODAY, YOU
MUST use idea generation strategies to
create 3 story concepts
SHOULD be able to develop your 3 ideas by
conducting research
COULD evaluate your ideas effectiveness
using peer assessment & reflection
4. SYD FIELD
Famous American screenwriter Syd Field
came up with a way to describe a films
concept in its simplest form.
5. OVER THE NEXT 3 WEEKS
You will work in small groups to produce a short
film based around a theme.
7. WHAT IS JUMP CUTS
Jump Cuts is a three week film production challenge.
You have until Mid November to plan, organise and film a 2
minute short film.
You will need to work in small groups, and work hard outside
of your class time.
8. JUMP CUTS RULES (1)
What do I need to do?
You must submit:
• Script
• Storyboards
• Shots list
• risk assessments,
• Shooting schedules
• consent forms.
9. JUMP CUTS RULES (2)
What do I have to make?
Jump Cuts is a horror and thriller film festival. Your film will
need to be influenced by one (or both) of these genres.
This years entries must be based around the theme “PREY”,
but how your story does this is up to you.
Your film must contain NO DIALOGUE.
10. JUMP CUTS RULES (2)
This years entries must be based around the theme…
HUNTER
11. JUMP CUTS
What next?
Get in groups of no more than 4. You will need to come up with
an idea & pitch it to your group todaY. The group will vote for 1
idea that they want to make.
Remember to keep your ideas realistic & attainable. 5 minute
films should not have a lot of dialogue, exposition etc... Think
short and snappy.
12. JUMP CUTS
“What’s this about working outside of class time?”
If you want something you have to work at it.
You need to have filmed this by mid-december
That means you have complete pre-production by the end of next week.
That means putting in some time outside of class.
You will only have this class on a Monday
to spend on it….
13. WHAT NEXT?
Go away and begin planning your idea. Start with a concept then
develop it, add a beginning and ending. Whats the moral of the
story? How does it tie in?
It doesn’t have to be the best idea ever – you only have 2- 5
minutes to tell your story.
The simpler the story the better.
Simple stories can be the smartest stories.
