WRITING PROPOSALS
WHAT DID WE LOOK AT LAST LESSON?
WHAT IDEAS DID YOU COME UP WITH?
But how can you
communicate your
idea for the video
without talking
directly to the
client?
BEING ABLE TO PITCH YOUR IDEA TO AN
AUDIENCE IS A GREAT SKILL
We will look at how to get our music video
idea across in a written document called a
proposal.
THIS LESSON
MUST be able to explain a creative idea
in a proposal
SHOULD be able to evaluate the
effectiveness of your peers proposals
COULD improve the effectiveness of your
proposal by using feedback
BY THE END OF TODAY, YOU
WHAT KIND OF PLANS DO YOU HAVE TO
CREATE FOR YOUR MUSIC VIDEO?
IS THERE A WAY WE COULD TAKE ALL OF
THIS INFORMATION….
AND EXPLAIN OUR PLANS IN ONE
DOCUMENT
 Read it and ask yourself if you understand their video idea.
 Identify 1 good thing about the proposal and 2 bad things.
IN FRONT OF YOU THERE IS A PROPOSAL
 Which is better at explaining the videos idea, and why do you
think that is?
WORKING WITH A PARTNER, COMPARE
YOUR PROPOSALS.
 How does the writer present their idea?
 What different sections are there?
WHOLE CLASS FEEDBACK
 What are the strengths
of this proposal?
 What are its
weaknesses?
WHOLE CLASS FEEDBACK
How has the author clearly explained
their plans for this video?
WHAT DO WE THINK OF THIS PROPOSAL?
 The proposal is your chance to sell your vision to the
reader.
 Your meaning can be easily lost if you don’t ensure
the spelling and grammar in your written work is
correct. People just won’t read badly written reports.
WHAT IS WRONG WITH THIS
PARAGRAPH?
Use Word or Google Docs spell-checker
Get someone you trust to read your work over
HOW CAN YOU ENSURE THAT YOUR SPELLING
AND GRAMMAR ARE CORRECT?
You will need to write a proposal which explains
your creative idea for your music video, and the
planning requirements you would need to
consider.
Log onto the research & planning section of
Moodle and download the proposal proforma
under week 11 – use this to help you structure
your own proposal but feel free to edit or add
sections to it.
WORKING ALONE
 In pairs, swap proposals.
 Read your friends work – is there idea clear? Do you
understand what their plan for Florence + The
Machines music video is?
 Check their spelling and grammar – highlight any
paragraphs or sentences which don’t make perfect
sense to you in the document.
 In five minutes you will need to feedback to your
friend – use this opportunity to help them improve
their work.
PEER ASSESSMENT
 Feedback to each other about your proposals.
 Is the idea clear?
 Are there sections where the meaning isn’t clear?
 Do they explain their idea, or do they just describe
it?
 Where could they improve their spelling and
grammar?
FEEDBACK
Begin to edit your proposal, using the
feedback from your peer to help guide
you.
If you finish the first draft of your
proposal you can continue to work on
your planning documents (for example
your storyboards, location recces,
equipment lists)
TASK 2
 You will need to hand in your plans for Florence +
The Machines music video.
 A proposal will help to explain your idea, and
provides the context for the rest of your planning and
pre-production portfolio.
 You will need to finish writing your proposal at home
– when its done get it spell checked and ask a friend
to read it.
