you want to produce, based on your own
career goals and aspirations.
 You will need to begin some ideas
generation, recording these for your
planning.

MUST identify a format of video to
produce which meets your career
goals.
SHOULD create a range of simple
concepts for your FMP
COULD develop one of these ideas,
conducting research into comparable
work.

What are you good at doing?
Which job combines those things?
 If you don’t have the skillset you need to do
that job, is it something you could learn?
 How could you learn it? Where? When could
you start learning it?A

Task 2: what format of video best
aligns with your career goals?
Rules: Short Film
 Runtime: 6 -10 minutes long.
 Restricted content: No drugs. Cursing/violence must be tastefully done,
and pre-approved by Tutor.
 Copyright material: only approved royalty free music downloaded legally
from a permissible source. No exceptions. Even if you really, really like the
track.
 Original material: all video/stills must be your own original content,
recorded by you.
 Camera-operation must be by the director. Editing must be by the director.
Rules: Music Video
 Runtime: full track length
 Artist: Must be a local artist from Coventry/West Midlands area. Must
approve directors plans.
 Track: Must be original track. Tutor maintains right to veto use of track
based on lyrics / swearing / content. You have been warned. Don’t try to
sneak it by me.
 Restricted content: No drugs/gang related activity.
 Copyright material: Artist must give written consent for use of track
 Original material: all video/stills must be directors own original content,
recorded by you.
 Camera-operation must be by the director. Editing must be by the director.
Rules: Documentary / Factual
 Runtime: 10 minutes.
 Subject: Must be suitable for a PG audience. Must not contain illegal
activities. Tutor must approve subject & content.
 Restricted content: No drugs/violence/illegal activity.
 Content: MUST include interviews with range of subjects & experts,
cutaways, actuality footage.
 Copyright material: only approved royalty free music downloaded legally
from a permissible source. No exceptions. Even if you really, really like the
track.
 Original material: all video/stills must be your own original content,
recorded by you.
 Camera-operation must be by the director. Editing must be by the director.
Rules: PIF
 Runtime: 6 -10 minutes long.
 Restricted content: All content must be tastefully done, and pre-approved
by Tutor.
 Subject: Must be for a real organisation (the ‘client’), and must be made
with clients pre-approval and involvement. Student must meet with client
for an interview on the clients goals for the video. Client must sign off idea.
 Copyright material: only approved royalty free music downloaded legally
from a permissible source. No exceptions. Even if you really, really like the
track.
 Original material: all video/stills must be your own original content,
recorded by you.
 Camera-operation must be by the director. Editing must be by the director.

 brainstorm 3 simple concepts for a short film, or
Identify 3 bands / artists for a music video, or
Identify 3 interesting subjects / people for a
documentary, or
Identify 3 issues for a PIF.
Pitch to the class.

Fmp lesson 2 hopes

  • 2. LAST WEEK  We discussed your FMP project.  What does FMP stand for?  What do you have to produce?  Why are you doing an FMP? What skills, knowledge & experience will you gain?
  • 3. TODAY  You are going to begin developing your ideas.  You will need to identify a format of video you want to produce, based on your own career goals and aspirations.  You will need to begin some ideas generation, recording these for your planning.
  • 4. BY THE END OF THE LESSON, YOU MUST identify a format of video to produce which meets your career goals. SHOULD create a range of simple concepts for your FMP COULD develop one of these ideas, conducting research into comparable work.
  • 5. 10 years from now, what do you want to be?
  • 6. What do you love doing? What are you good at doing? Which job combines those things?  If you don’t have the skillset you need to do that job, is it something you could learn?  How could you learn it? Where? When could you start learning it?A
  • 7. Its good to have career goals. Can your FMP help you to gain the experience, knowledge or skills to help you with your dream job?

  • 9. Task 2: what format of video best aligns with your career goals?
  • 10. Rules: Short Film  Runtime: 6 -10 minutes long.  Restricted content: No drugs. Cursing/violence must be tastefully done, and pre-approved by Tutor.  Copyright material: only approved royalty free music downloaded legally from a permissible source. No exceptions. Even if you really, really like the track.  Original material: all video/stills must be your own original content, recorded by you.  Camera-operation must be by the director. Editing must be by the director.
  • 11. Rules: Music Video  Runtime: full track length  Artist: Must be a local artist from Coventry/West Midlands area. Must approve directors plans.  Track: Must be original track. Tutor maintains right to veto use of track based on lyrics / swearing / content. You have been warned. Don’t try to sneak it by me.  Restricted content: No drugs/gang related activity.  Copyright material: Artist must give written consent for use of track  Original material: all video/stills must be directors own original content, recorded by you.  Camera-operation must be by the director. Editing must be by the director.
  • 12. Rules: Documentary / Factual  Runtime: 10 minutes.  Subject: Must be suitable for a PG audience. Must not contain illegal activities. Tutor must approve subject & content.  Restricted content: No drugs/violence/illegal activity.  Content: MUST include interviews with range of subjects & experts, cutaways, actuality footage.  Copyright material: only approved royalty free music downloaded legally from a permissible source. No exceptions. Even if you really, really like the track.  Original material: all video/stills must be your own original content, recorded by you.  Camera-operation must be by the director. Editing must be by the director.

Rules: PIF  Runtime: 6 -10 minutes long.  Restricted content: All content must be tastefully done, and pre-approved by Tutor.  Subject: Must be for a real organisation (the ‘client’), and must be made with clients pre-approval and involvement. Student must meet with client for an interview on the clients goals for the video. Client must sign off idea.  Copyright material: only approved royalty free music downloaded legally from a permissible source. No exceptions.   • 15. Task 3: ideas generation Remember, your 1st idea is your…. So, you will need to:  brainstorm 3 simple concepts for a short film, or Identify 3 bands / artists for a music video, or Identify 3 interesting subjects / people for a documentary, or Identify 3 issues for a PIF.
