Music Video
feedback
First draft feedback
 We made the first draft of our music video and presented it to our fellow class mates and other students on the media course to gain feedback
from them. They all filled out a table asking them about the framing, editing and camera work of the music video. From our feedback we found
that people liked the way that we had a variety of locations and the way the locations changed throughout the music video. The locations that
people liked the best were the Spain shots, which is good because we wanted to portray that Soraya is from a foreign country. People also liked
the creative side of the music video, such as the paint, eyes wall and fire wall shots as they thought it made the music video look different. From
the feedback we also learnt that people thought that the content of our music video went with the genre of our music video, which is pop/indie
pop. This is good as it means that we have successfully created a music video that is under the genre of music that we were aiming to create.
Another thing that people said was that they thought the editing was good and that they liked how we used the thought beats with the shots in
our music video.
 However, people said that the music video was too static due to most of the shots being still because they were filmed on a tripod. They also said
that they disliked the tree shots and the dark scene shots because the majority of the shots were filmed outside, making the shots stand out from
the music video. People also thought that some of the shots were too long for the song and needed to be cut and that some of the shots are out
of sync with the song.
 We took this feedback into account when we started to edit our final music video and we made the following changes to the music video:
 We changed the speed of some of the shots to make Soraya in sync with the song.
 We changed the contrast and brightness of the clips to make the colours stand out more rather than looing faded.
 We edited the time apse so that the colours in the sky show up more by using the three way colour wheel effect on Premiere. This meant that the
change in time of the day was noticeable due to the change in the colour of the sky being more drastic.
Feedback after
final music video
Survey monkey
We used Survey Monkey to create a survey that we could send to our target audience over email. The reason we chose to send
the questionnaire over email rather than get people to complete it in person is because we wanted to have access to a wider
sample of people in hope that we would get more responses. We asked these questions so that we could see who was answering
our questionnaire.
We decided to ask
people what genre of
music do they like. We
did this because we
wanted to know how
many people liked the
genre of our music
video or a different
genre of music such as
R’n’B because their
taste in music may
have an impact on
their answers to the
questions and on their
view of our music
video.
People said that they liked
the was the location changes
a lot throughout the music
video and the way we have a
variety of locations. They
liked the way the
backgrounds were artistic
such as the fire wall and the
graffiti wall and the way the
music video was full of
colour because it made the
video exciting to watch.
People also said that they
liked how much energy
Soraya had in her
performance as her
performance made it obvious
that the video was a music
video.
However, people disliked the way the music
video was quite static and thought that there
needed to be more movement in the camera
shots. Also, the camera change in the music
video is was spotted by the people who did
the survey. They said that the quality of the
schools camera made the shots that we filmed
with the camera stand out from the rest of the
shots. Lastly, people said that they thought
that Soraya wasn’t opening her mouth wide
enough, making them think that she wasn’t
singing the words and that they generally
disliked the music video. However, this may be
because their music genre taste is different to
the genre of our music video, e.g. they might
like rock music. This may have impacted their
answers so we took this into account when we
received the feedback from the survey.
From this graph we could see that the majority of the people that took our survey felt that
our music video was for the genre of indie pop. This is good because it means that we have
achieved our goal of creating a music video under this genre, meaning that we conformed
to the right conventions of an indie pop music video. For example, Andrew Goodwin’s
theory says that women are seen as an object of desire, which is a stereotype for women
pop artist music video. So for our music video we wanted to avoid this image being
portrayed to make sure our music video looked like it belonged to the right genre.
However, some people thought that our music video did
not belong to the genre indie pop. This is because people
felt that the content of the music video dis not strike them
as ‘indie’. They also said that they thought that the music
video came across as a girly music video rather than an
indie music video because they felt that we did not
conform to the conventions of an indie music video.
People felt that Soraya's costumes in the music video look
more girly and they thought that the song was not indie
enough to be placed under the genre of indie.
This was the most important question in
the survey because the whole point of a
music video is to promote an artists song
so that the artists target audience want to
listen to the song again either by
consuming it through YouTube or buy
purchasing it in store or on iTunes. The
majority of the people that answered the
survey said that the music video made
them want to listen to the song again. This
means that we have successfully created a
music video that promotes our song.
Viewing
 To gain more feedback we conducted viewings. We did a viewing for the younger ages of
our target audience and a viewing for the older ages of our target audience.
Older age group viewing feedback (17 to 18 years old):
People thought that our music video was very well produced and that Soraya’s performance in
the music video is really good because she has a lot of energy. They also said that they really
liked the way that we had lots of different locations and the creative side to the music video.
People said that the eye shots before the chorus was really effective and they liked the way we
used the thought beats to our advantage in the music video. Also, everyone said that the music
video made them want to listen to the song again, which means that we achieved the purpose of
a music video. However, some people said that they didn’t think that the music video belonged
to the genre of indie pop because the locations and content of the music video looked too girly,
but the majority of the questionnaires that were filled out say that they thought the music video
belonged to the genre of indie pop.
Younger age group viewing feedback (14 to 16 year olds):
Most of the feedback said that they liked the settings in the music video and they way they
changed rather than just having one constant setting throughout the whole music video. They
also said that they liked the costumes that Soraya was wearing in the shots and they liked the
way the music video was different to normal music videos – artsy. Also, the majority of the
feedback said that they music video made the want to listen to the song again and that they
thought it belonged to the genre of indie pop. However, a few people disagreed and felt that
the music video looked more like a pop music video and they thought that there needed to be
more people in the music video.

Music video feedback

  • 2. First draft feedback  We made the first draft of our music video and presented it to our fellow class mates and other students on the media course to gain feedback from them. They all filled out a table asking them about the framing, editing and camera work of the music video. From our feedback we found that people liked the way that we had a variety of locations and the way the locations changed throughout the music video. The locations that people liked the best were the Spain shots, which is good because we wanted to portray that Soraya is from a foreign country. People also liked the creative side of the music video, such as the paint, eyes wall and fire wall shots as they thought it made the music video look different. From the feedback we also learnt that people thought that the content of our music video went with the genre of our music video, which is pop/indie pop. This is good as it means that we have successfully created a music video that is under the genre of music that we were aiming to create. Another thing that people said was that they thought the editing was good and that they liked how we used the thought beats with the shots in our music video.  However, people said that the music video was too static due to most of the shots being still because they were filmed on a tripod. They also said that they disliked the tree shots and the dark scene shots because the majority of the shots were filmed outside, making the shots stand out from the music video. People also thought that some of the shots were too long for the song and needed to be cut and that some of the shots are out of sync with the song.  We took this feedback into account when we started to edit our final music video and we made the following changes to the music video:  We changed the speed of some of the shots to make Soraya in sync with the song.  We changed the contrast and brightness of the clips to make the colours stand out more rather than looing faded.  We edited the time apse so that the colours in the sky show up more by using the three way colour wheel effect on Premiere. This meant that the change in time of the day was noticeable due to the change in the colour of the sky being more drastic.
  • 4. Survey monkey We used Survey Monkey to create a survey that we could send to our target audience over email. The reason we chose to send the questionnaire over email rather than get people to complete it in person is because we wanted to have access to a wider sample of people in hope that we would get more responses. We asked these questions so that we could see who was answering our questionnaire.
  • 5. We decided to ask people what genre of music do they like. We did this because we wanted to know how many people liked the genre of our music video or a different genre of music such as R’n’B because their taste in music may have an impact on their answers to the questions and on their view of our music video.
  • 6. People said that they liked the was the location changes a lot throughout the music video and the way we have a variety of locations. They liked the way the backgrounds were artistic such as the fire wall and the graffiti wall and the way the music video was full of colour because it made the video exciting to watch. People also said that they liked how much energy Soraya had in her performance as her performance made it obvious that the video was a music video. However, people disliked the way the music video was quite static and thought that there needed to be more movement in the camera shots. Also, the camera change in the music video is was spotted by the people who did the survey. They said that the quality of the schools camera made the shots that we filmed with the camera stand out from the rest of the shots. Lastly, people said that they thought that Soraya wasn’t opening her mouth wide enough, making them think that she wasn’t singing the words and that they generally disliked the music video. However, this may be because their music genre taste is different to the genre of our music video, e.g. they might like rock music. This may have impacted their answers so we took this into account when we received the feedback from the survey.
  • 7. From this graph we could see that the majority of the people that took our survey felt that our music video was for the genre of indie pop. This is good because it means that we have achieved our goal of creating a music video under this genre, meaning that we conformed to the right conventions of an indie pop music video. For example, Andrew Goodwin’s theory says that women are seen as an object of desire, which is a stereotype for women pop artist music video. So for our music video we wanted to avoid this image being portrayed to make sure our music video looked like it belonged to the right genre. However, some people thought that our music video did not belong to the genre indie pop. This is because people felt that the content of the music video dis not strike them as ‘indie’. They also said that they thought that the music video came across as a girly music video rather than an indie music video because they felt that we did not conform to the conventions of an indie music video. People felt that Soraya's costumes in the music video look more girly and they thought that the song was not indie enough to be placed under the genre of indie.
  • 8. This was the most important question in the survey because the whole point of a music video is to promote an artists song so that the artists target audience want to listen to the song again either by consuming it through YouTube or buy purchasing it in store or on iTunes. The majority of the people that answered the survey said that the music video made them want to listen to the song again. This means that we have successfully created a music video that promotes our song.
  • 9. Viewing  To gain more feedback we conducted viewings. We did a viewing for the younger ages of our target audience and a viewing for the older ages of our target audience. Older age group viewing feedback (17 to 18 years old): People thought that our music video was very well produced and that Soraya’s performance in the music video is really good because she has a lot of energy. They also said that they really liked the way that we had lots of different locations and the creative side to the music video. People said that the eye shots before the chorus was really effective and they liked the way we used the thought beats to our advantage in the music video. Also, everyone said that the music video made them want to listen to the song again, which means that we achieved the purpose of a music video. However, some people said that they didn’t think that the music video belonged to the genre of indie pop because the locations and content of the music video looked too girly, but the majority of the questionnaires that were filled out say that they thought the music video belonged to the genre of indie pop. Younger age group viewing feedback (14 to 16 year olds): Most of the feedback said that they liked the settings in the music video and they way they changed rather than just having one constant setting throughout the whole music video. They also said that they liked the costumes that Soraya was wearing in the shots and they liked the way the music video was different to normal music videos – artsy. Also, the majority of the feedback said that they music video made the want to listen to the song again and that they thought it belonged to the genre of indie pop. However, a few people disagreed and felt that the music video looked more like a pop music video and they thought that there needed to be more people in the music video.
