1. What have you learned from your audience feedback?
For our audience feedback we created a questionnaire with quantitative data to collect the audience’s response to our video, we also created a space for comments to get qualitative data with their true thoughts and feelings towards our video. We gave a questionnaire of 12 questions to 20 people in college and 20 people that we knew outside of college. Out of 40 people 37 said they thought it followed the forms and conventions of typical music videos, therefore suggesting it has all the features that a real music video has. In our questionnaire we asked the audience how they thought we had been influenced by other videos. We got a number of responses such as- ‘It reminds me of other Scissor Sisters videos’’
39 out of 40 said they think the genre and themes fit with the video. This is important to us as it is tricky to make a disjuncture style video to fit with a song. However one person in the 30+ age range did say they prefer videos with a story line and something to follow. This maybe due to the age range being so different to our target audience and less appealing to the older generation. Everybody agreed the extra effort in making costumes was successful and we got a number of positive comments on the editing techniques. Some people said that without the editing our video would be very dull therefore if we could change anything we would create more emphasis on props and focus on the performance side instead of relying on editing techniques. We asked the participants of the questionnaire what they would think of if they heard the song on the radio; this was our way of trying to establish whether our thought beats had worked. 7 people said they would think of the megaphones and the slow surreal walk towards the end of the video when the performers are in a line. This proved that we were successful in creating thought beats although it wasn’t our main intention to focus on it through out the song yet they were still memorable. We also got other comments such as ‘the mega phones on the woo woo parts’, ‘the body popping towards the end of the song when the music speeds up’ and ‘the flashing backgrounds in sync to the music’. These were all positive comments for us which showed we had succeeded in creating memorable aspects to the video.
Another positive question was How did the music video make you feel? The responses we got were ‘It was very fun and lively which portrayed through my feelings afterwards’, ‘The energy made me want to join in and sing with attitude’ and ‘It reminded me of my youth’. We got some very different responses but each contained the conventions of pop music videos such as the energy, liveliness and fun themes. 100% said they enjoyed watching the music video and out of 10 everyone rated the video between 7-10. This showed that we had successfully created our music video to suit our target audience.
By looking at our feedback we can establish that we have successfully created a music video that fits with the forms and conventions of a typical pop genre music video. Even if it wasn’t everybody’s ideal genre especially in the older age groups 100% enjoyed watching the video which reflected our aim was to create a fun entertaining video. Our audience feedback has given us positive responses on all the techniques, costumes and effort put in. However we have negative responses and advice that we can work on to progress future media products similar to our music video that we may work on in the future. Over all I am very pleased with the responses we have received and the advice we have taken away which will help us in the future on further media products.
