Frostburg State University-Personal Narrative Analysis
A lot of people have life lessons or events that have changed them somehow. I have a very petrifying
experience that changed how I see things. I was about ten years old when this happens my family and
I were going on a trip to Frostburg State University. It was a Friday after school, I had to pack the
night before, so we could leave right after I got off the bus, I remember not being very excited about
going nor were my brothers. My parents were very excited though because it was the college that they
both graduated from. I had no desire in going because I was only ten at the time, so I did not need to
be visiting colleges, or going to more school on my weekend. We were just doing this for my parents,
this obviously meant a lot to them. I don t have much recognition of the ride up because I slept the
majority of the it. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Getting close to the campus, I was very bored(participial) along with my brothers, the whole family
was getting tired. Finally, we arrived at the campus it was dark now, it was nice I just didn t think
much of it. We dove around for a bit and finally we stopped at Gunthers, an old hotel(appositive). It
was a very eerie place, one of the creepiest places I have ever been too, it was like a ghost town. We
got our room key and began walking to our room, it had dead animals, and creepy baby dolls behind
glass displays, flickering lights, also zero other people in there. I did not like the feeling of the place at
all. When we arrived at our room, a blast of frigid air hits me in the face. It had a mysterious smell too
it, I did not like it at all so I went to bed immediately so I could get out of there as soon as possible.
We woke up around eight in the morning. We were headed to a place called Dan s

Writing An Article On Wikipedia Essay
Despite the popular belief, writing an article on Wikipedia is subject to several rules. For example,
before creating a page for a new article and a new topic, you have to make sure that the subject you
tackled is either popular enough or old enough to be published. Yet there are some exceptions to this
rule. It is the case for sudden events such as November 2015 Paris attacks that took place few days
ago but already have a Wikipedia page.i Notability is not the only criterion to take into account before
knowing if your article can be published or not. You also have to follow some basic rules such as
avoiding plagiarism or always cite your sources at the end of the article. Moreover as an author you
have to remain as neutral as possible. One of Wikipedia s goal is to provide information without any
biased point of view or personal statement. Maybe the two most important and famous pillars of
Wikipedia are the fact that it is free to use and licence free. Anyone can publish, edit or use a
Wikipedia article as long as one follows the rules mentioned earlier.ii Without a doubt, Wikipedia is a
website that you can use from time to time to find some pieces of information about various subjects.
Since it is an open website it covers a very wide spectrum of topics. One of the drawbacks of it being
open is that its content is not 100% reliable. That is the reason why to write an essay it is better to
avoid the use of this website. However some parts of articles cannot be edited

Howard Hughes Impact On Aviation
Howard Hughes has had an outstanding impact on aviation s history. Next to his strange paranoia and
wealth from countless movies, he had a lifelong passion for aviation! Although there was a film
produced about his life, there is a lot that the world doesn t know about Mr. Hughes. Howard Hughes
was born on December 24, 1905 in Humble, Texas to Allene and Howard R. Hughes Sr. He had an
early fascination for mechanics around age 10. By 12, he had built his own motorcycle. I believe that
his fascination began with his father s tool company that was built in 1909. His father has patented
rotary oil drilling equipment that allowed miners to dig in areas that were once inaccessible. His father
s company was passed down to Howard when ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Upon further reading, it is said that the U.S. Air Force was willing to help Howard due to his
pioneering work in aviation. I m sure Howard was extremely grateful for the Air Force and their
willingness to help with the production of Jet Pilot . Although Howard was most often known for his
movies, his first love was aviation (Simonsen, 2005). During and after the filming of his movies, his
passion for aviation had exploded! In 1928 he received his pilot license. In 1932, Howard started
Hughes Aircraft Company, which was part of his father s previously known business, Hughes Tool
Company. It was originally developed to turn a military aircraft into a racer, but it eventually
developed aviation inventions (Lerner, 2004). The first plane that Hughes Aircraft Company invented
was built in 1935. The name of which is the H1, also known as the Hughes 1B. This gorgeous plane
was a length of 27 feet, height of 7.87 feet, and a width of 31.73 feet. Howard was the first man to fly
the H1 on September 13, 1925. This beast of an airplane set a world air speed record of 353 miles per
hour. On January 13, 1937, the H1 set a United States transcontinental speed record of 7 hours, 28
minutes, and 25 seconds (Writer, 2016). Before doing further research, I thought the speed Howard set
was pretty fast, but I quickly found that I was wrong! I came to a conclusion that the fastest air speed

Essay about Writers and Intellectuals in Exile
Writers and Intellectuals in Exile It may be that writers in my position, exiles... are haunted by some
sense of loss, some urge to reclaim, to look back, even at the risk of being mutated into pillars of salt 1
said Salman Rushdie. The loss and love of home is not what constitutes an exilic existence; what
actually and in true sense constitutes it is the chasm between carrying forth and leaving behind and
straddling the two different cultures from two different positions. In my paper, I propose to look at the
two sides of an exilic existence the negative that which has the horrors and trauma with reference to
Adorno and Said; and the positive, that which provides the intellectuals and writers a critical and
reflective insight, and here I ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Exile in itself is a traumatic experience and becomes more aggravated owing to the formation of
strong opinionated groups based on the political affiliations or the social construct. Both Adorno and
Said enunciate this predicament of the exiles where isolation becomes so worse that exiled groups
start suspecting their own members. The moment the formation of politically directed groups begin to
take shape, the suspicion and hostility towards those branded as the members of others (Adorno, 33)
too simultaneously commences. Adorno says, The moment when you hope for the slightest sigh of the
same solidarity from them, or even mere sympathy for your own share of the social product of
suffering, they show you the cold shoulder (Adorno, 51 52). The displacements may in many ways be
a calamity and a catastrophe for many. But, there is another side to it too. It is a peculiar and also quite
a compelling point to note that many writers and intellectuals tend to outshine in their displaced
existence. It seems as if the changed environment, the one outside the country of residence acts as a
stimulant for them. The exile becomes a kind of rejuvenation so to say, for Victor Hugo fairly did
experience this change in his fifteen year exile on the island of Guernsey, where he penned some his
famous works. Such writings in the

The Contributions of Isaac Newton Essay
Sir Isaac Newton was a profound mathematician and physicist, one of the primary scientificintellects
of all time. For almost 300 years, Newton has been known as the leader in scientific achievements of
modern physical science as well as mathematical research. Dedicated to learning and experimenting,
Newton also plunged into chemistry, early history of Western Civilization and theology, and a
concentration of special studies in forms and dimensions, which also included Solomon s Temple in
Jerusalem.
On Christmas day in 1642, Newton was born to a widowed farming mother. In 1664 while still a
student, Newton studied optics and light. He investigated the refraction of light by a glass prism,
which led to discovering measurable mathematical ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Late in life, Newton apologized for the algebraic style of recent mathematical progress. He favored the
classical geometrical method of the Greeks because of its clarity and rigor (5).
Newton also made extreme progress in physics. According to the well known story, Newton witnessed
an apple falling from a tree in his orchard. From this he conceivedan idea in his mind that the same
force that governs the Moon could also, control the apple. Newton then calculated the force needed to
hold the moon in its orbit comparing it to the force that pulls an object to the ground. He furthered his
experiment to include calculations from the centripetal force equation and the pendulum sling
relationship. Thus, this began the experimentation of gravity and the development of the laws of
gravity. While working with John Hooke, Newton redirected his experiment to the problem of the path
of a body subjected to a centrally directed force that varies as the inverse square of the distance.
Newton determined this to be an ellipse. With an interest in Haley s Comet, Newton demonstrated the
relationship of his new findings with his previous findings (6). This led him to write a brief essay on
mechanics, and to finally write the Principia.
The Book Principia is broken into three parts. Book I begins with the foundation of the science of
mathematics and the

Henry Ford In Brave New World Essay
Henry Ford in Brave New World Aldous Huxley wrote Brave New World in 1932. Brave New World
is set in London, in AD 2540. The novel shows life in a utopia where there is advanced reproductive
technology, class conditioning and sleep learning. Everyone is happy in Brave New World and if they
start to become unhappy, they can take a drug called soma. Henry Ford is considered the God. Henry
Ford is an appropriate God figure because he was the leading industry person of his time, Brave New

We have the World State now. And Ford s Day celebrations, and Community Sings, and Solidarity

everyone is created in a test tube. They are raised in the Central London Hatchery until they can
survive on their own and then they get their job and go into the world. Everyone is conditioned to be
in a certain caste and do certain job. The castes are Alpha, Beta, Gamma, Delta, or Epsilon. Alphas are
conditioned to be leaders and attractive. Each caste you go down is less attractive and intellectual. The
Epsilon are conditioned to do harshest jobs and are deprived of oxygen as embryos, therefore they are
not very smart. At the hatchery they use hypnopaedic which is sleep teaching, so the children will
learn the morals of the World State. There is no aging in this world, they all take pills to keep them
young and once they reach a certain age they die. In Brave New World, it is seen odd to have real
relationships with people. The people are all very promiscuous, and it is seen odd to be with the same
person for more than a couple weeks. In order for everyone to stay happy, they take a drug called
soma. Soma is a narcotic drug that makes you feel like you are in another

Essay on Roe v. Wade 1973
Even to this day, women have not reached maximum equality, but the landmark Supreme Court case
Roe v. Wade has helped the women s equality movement drastically take a step in the right direction.
Prior to the case, women had their rights very limited and restricted. Everyone was and still is entitled
to their basic rights, however pregnant women were not. Their first, fourth, fifth, ninth, and fourteenth
amendment rights were violated and were not addressed until Jane Roe testified in court. The decision
made by the court still has a lasting impact even to this day. The landmark Supreme Court case Roe v.
Wade was not just a win for Jane Roe, but a win for all women as it helped break the barrier that

Henry Wade represented the Texas state law to prohibit abortion. Eventually, the case came to a close
and was decided on January 22, 1973. Ever since the case of Roe v. Wade, there have been
approximately 1.5 million legal abortions each year (Edwards III, Wattenberg, and Lineberry 131).
During the years leading up to and after 1973, there were numerous events and situations that
occurred. Before 1965, the idea of right to privacy was barely used, but Griswold v. Connecticut
(1965) changed that. The case involved a Connecticut law forbidding the use of contraceptives
(Edwards III, Wattenberg, and Lineberry 131). A doctor and a family planner were arrested for
distributing the use of contraceptives for couples in need. They were eventually brought to court by
the state and were convicted. The case was taken to the Supreme Court and was later decided that
everyone is entitled to their right to privacy. This set the precedent for Roe v. Wade because without
Griswold v. Connecticut, the decision might be completely different than what it is now. A court case
called Rust v. Sullivan was related to abortion. It specified that family planning services receiving
federal funds could not provide women any counseling regard abortion (Edwards III, Wattenberg, and
Lineberry 131). This decision created public scrutiny as the decision would violate the First
Amendment. President Clinton eventually lifted the ban on abortion counseling as it

Examples Of Foreshadowing In The Fly Paper Elizabeth Taylor
The fly paper
The Fly paper is a short story by Elizabeth Taylor, an English novelist. It starts as an everyday event
and after a while demonstrates how oppressive the protagonist s seemingly calm day changes to the
darker side. In order to show not only a polite surface, but also an opposite, surface that includes
tension and depressive motives, Elizabeth Taylor virtuously uses foreshadowing. Foreshadowing is
being determined by a hint given in order to understand or predict certain events that will happen later
in the story. It is a great method of using uneven objects / references to demonstrate the future events.
I ve found four examples of foreshadowing in the short story. Elizabeth Taylor is using this technique

In the beginning of unfortunate events that will take place in the house of an old lady, a reader may
observe a foreshadowing in the following sentence: Sylvia followed the woman down a side path to
the back door, trying to push her worries from her mind. . An author is using a pre scene surrounding,
many readers, out of my own observation, did not notice. It is a really questionable moment, why she
decided to go to the back door instead of using a main entrance. Another very interesting moment
where Elizabeth Taylor wisely decided to use a foreshadowing is the end of the short story, when
Sylvia noticed a fly paper located in the house of an old lady: She stared up at a fly paper hanging in
the window the only disconcerting thing in the room. Some of the flies were still half alive, and
striving hopelessly to free themselves. But they were caught forever. . In my opinion, it is one of the
smartest ways to end this story, which was completely shocking to a reader. Here, once again, a fly
represented a young girl, Sylvia, and fly paper represented a trap, house where she decided to go. But
I believe that a fly paper is not just a representation of a house itself, but also of the comfort that
Sylvia tried to get from an old lady. And as she was experiencing a lack of love from her relatives, her
kidnappers idea was to compensate that attention that a poor young

Criminal Justice Challenges
The Criminal Justice System has evolved during the 21st century, especially when it comes to the
challenges that it is faced with and the way Criminal Justice officials execute their actions. There are
many different challenges that the Criminal Justice System has encountered, however, this author
believes the most important challenge they have to encounter in the 21st century is the way the media
and society portray the role of law enforcement officials. It is the most important challenge because as
law enforcement officers they are to be trusted but if the media portrays them as untrustworthy or
corrupt then society will not respect them nor will they feel safe around them. As a reader, do you
believe that one of the most important challenges is the portrayal of law enforcement officials?
The media has a major impact on people s mindsets, especially the way that people view the criminal

Death Of Ivan Ilych, Metamorphosis, And Heart Of Darkness
When reading a book, the reader is always trying to figure out the theme of the story. Is it love? Is it
death? Every writer puts a different theme in their stories. Some themes relate to each other. However,
there are some that are a bit different. A theme is the subject of a talk, a piece of writing, a person s
thoughts, or an exhibition. In other words, the theme is considered the topic of the story. In this essay,
I will talk about the themes in three of the stories this trimester. I will then compare each one of them
to each other. Three of the stories that have been discussed this trimester are Death of Ivan Ilych,
Metamorphosis, and Heart of Darkness. The Death of Ivan Ilych is about a man who has been ill for a
very long time. He was a man who always worked and never had any time for his family. At the end of
his life, he asked god and his family for salvation. He was able to be forgiven by his family, and he
died knowing his family forgave him. A theme of this story was artificial life and authentic life. The
artificial life is a deception that hides life s true meaning and leaves one terrified and alone at the
moment of death. This life was represented by Ivan believing ... Show more content on

One theme of Heart of Darkness is isolation. Kurtz, who is the main man of the Congo, is separated
from civilization by a river. The river resembles an immense snake uncoiled, with its head in the sea,
its body at rest curving afar over a vast country, and its tail lost in the depths of the land (10). The
Congo creates the feeling of darkness and despair, along with isolation. Another theme is madness as a
result of imperialism. Africa is responsible for mental disintegration as well as physical illness. The
madness the result of power. Kurtz from the beginning is mad. He is removed from social interaction
and is given power of his own body and mind. He has no authority to answer to but himself. However,

Comparing Epic Of Gilgamesh, Genesis, And Greek Mythology
Gilgamesh, Genesis, and Greek mythology all have detailed and very similar stories that tell of a great
flood that wiped most of civilization. Each of the floods described are very similar detail with slight
differences that were most likely different because of culture. The epic of Gilgamesh tells of
Gilgamesh determined to find immortality since he now fears death after seeing Enkidu die. It is upon
this search that he meets Utnapishtim, the character most like the Biblical Noah. Utnapishtim had
become immortal after building a ship to survive the Great Deluge that had destroyed mankind. He

ark lands upon a mountain.
There were however a few slight differences that occurred in the stories, here are a few of the bigger
and more noticeable examples. The first, the one who sent the message to build the ark in the bible
was Yahweh, while in Gilgamesh, it was an assembly of gods. Along with that, in the bible Noah
received his message directly from God, whereas Utnapishtim was told in a dream. And lastly, by far
the biggest difference, was the number of days that each flood lasted. In the biblical story it lasted for

Minoan Culture Research Paper
The origin of the Mycenaean culture has perplexed many archaeologists for more than a century. All
the information gathered today from archaeologists are merely an approximation. The farther back
archaeologists investigate the harder it is to decipher and validate the history of the Greek experience.
However, the evidence from the Mycenaean period is crucial to the discovery and unveiling of the
development of the Greek culture. Roughly, around 3000 BC on the island of Crete began the Bronze
Age, where Sir Arthur Evans is accredited for the founding of the first civilization. Most commonly
known as the Minoan civilization, dubbed after king Minos, was an empire in the Mediterranean.
However, unlike the Mycenaeans the Minoans were not Greek. In other words, the Minoan inhabitants
were not native to the Greek language, thus deducing that the first early greek settlers were the

The Performance Appraisal Process Is Defined As The...
The performance appraisal process is defined as the process which a manager (1) examines and
evaluates an employee s work behavior by comparing it with preset standards, (2) documents the
results of the comparison, and (3) uses the results to provide feedback to the employee to show where
improvements are needed and why (Business Dictionary, 2015). Performance appraisals are used to
determine who needs what training, and who will be promoted, demoted, retained, or fired within
organizations (Business Dictionary, 2015). Performance appraisals have changed over time (Glen,
1990). The BARS or behaviorally anchored rating scales evaluated employee traits such as reliability
and cooperation (Glen, 1990). This system was later replaced by a management by objectives which
sets performance objectives and appraised (Glen, 1990). More recently this was replaced by the merit
pay and pay for performance systems (Glen, 1990). All the appraisal system attempt to maximize
objectivity while minimizing uncertainty and subjectivity (Glen, 1990). Performance appraisals are
often viewed as a no win situation by both managers and employees (Glen, 1990). Managers view
performance appraisals as their job to provide performance feedback and motivate employees in order
to drive individual and organizational improvements (Glen, 1990). Employees see performance
appraisals as the means to an increased income, improved skills through developmental training and

Affordable Care Insurance
We live in a nation of freedom and free markets. However, there are some markets that are not as free.
One market is the insurance industry. Insurance started in the roots of the early Republic with marine
and fire insurance. Then the liability and property insurance expanded to other areas. Later life and
health insurance evolved in the 1840s. Originally it was to protect the farmers. Mutual Life Insurance
Company of New York took insurance to the public through accident insurance in the 1850s. As time
evolved, many new companies wrote coverage for different things such as fire insurance, aviation

Many large employers offering benefits started to raise costs. They did this to control spending while
shifting the cost to the employee. Then employers started offering discounts for those who stopped
smoking, lead a healthier lifestyle, and got annual physicals.
Problems
A social problem is that many people do not want to be forced to purchase insurance. People want the
choose for themselves what insurance they want to pay and have the coverage needed. Many people
chose not to have heath care and will pay the penalty as it is cheaper than paying the premiums.
Premiums under the Affordable Health Care Act have continued to rise (Silvers, 2017).
Another social problem is that insurance companies are forced out of business. In recent news, our
insurance industry is not prospering as the government wants to control our health care. This reduces
the amount of insurance companies that provide coverage. The purpose of government health care was
to make insurance affordable and for all American.
However, this regulation creates a monopoly in the industry. Risks Cannot mandate everyone to have

Psychoanalyticism In The Tempest
The Tempest Critical Essay
During this course of the play the psychoanalytical criticism can be applied while reading the scenes
in The Tempest. As Freud argues that all humans have a dark side to them, we tend to hide this side of
us as we get older. In the Tempest, Caliban could represent this uncontrolled side of human nature.
Caliban is seen to be the superego which is can be seen to be evident when he does not wish to receive
Prospero s physical punishments. Despite his punishments, his desires fail to remain within him.
Caliban is also missing his mother in this play which leads him to feel inadequacy. Prospero is one of
the only obstacles between him and Miranda. Prospero s desire for power and control over the
characters in the play, shows Freud s theory coming into play, if one craves power, it is possibly
because one has lacked in its childhood.
This play has symbols that represent the imagery in it. The symbol water is often shown through this
play either by saying or showing it. The image of water is often shown to be deadly. As Ferdinand lost
his father at sea, he deems to think that his father drowned as they were involved in a shipwreck.
Water plays a huge symbol and image in this play as the setting takes place on an Island near the
Bermuda Triangle. Water in this play is to be seen as a lost. Ariel s song leads Ferdinand to think that
his father drowned at sea and is gone forever. Ariel s song

Diversity Is The Human Race
DIVERSITY PAPER
Gay. Straight. Black. White. Male. Female. Wealthy. Poor. Modern society has systematically sorted
the human race into collections and communities of descriptive factors. Deeply embedded within a
systematical labeling system, diversity has fell victim to the harmful segregation and prejudice of the
past. Diversity is not about the inferior nor the morally corrupt. Diversity is not the hallow substance
of labels. Diversity is culture, pride, and heritage.
To rural South Dakotans, diversity amongst the human race is rare. In the agricultural state I call
home, variation lies not in the people but rather in the contrasting species of livestock and corn.
Hailing from a town population of 3,025, any kind of knowledge about a social world beyond
Hartford, South Dakota was limited. I set up my childhood moral system on a tainted blend of
inaccurate perceptions and assumptions. A moral system which would ring true until I found myself as
the diversity. I am my own diversity. I am the collection of the variant and the assortment of different.
I am gay.
To answer any impending questions which may be surrounding one s head at the current time, just
lean towards the answer no. While some individuals may be born with the innate sense of who they
are, I was not. Unfortunately, my sense of childhood identity came not from deep self reflection and
soul searching, but rather a combination of my restricted experiences and limited knowledge of the
social world. I was not

How The Vietnam War Changed America
No event in the past half century of American history has commanded a morep rominent place in the
public consciousness than the Vietnam War (Hall xi), a rightfully said statement. Lasting from 1960
1975, it is America s longest war and changed the United States politically, socially, and culturally
during that period. In the early 1970s, the voting age was lowered to 18, largely because of the war.
Also, Vietnam was one of the first wars in which African Americans largely participated. Lastly,
Vietnam changed America culturally by causing mistrust in government. In the 1960s through early
70s, the Vietnam War changed America in ways that nothing had ever done before. Perhaps one of the
biggest changes Vietnam made in America ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While African Americans were allowed in the armed forces they still faced racism, and some thought
that the draft laws were favoring middle and upper class whites. Although the draft laws were not
intended to be racist, they made it significantly harder for blacks to be exempt from service. For
example, ...eligible men from the middle and upper class could normally find ways of avoiding
service, or at least service in Vietnam, meaning the burden of the draft fell on working class whites
and minorities. Consequently, African Americans were drafted in disproportionately higher numbers
than were whites (Hall 150). However, after their enlistments were up, more than two thirds of eligible
African Americans chose to re enlist while only around 12 percent of whites chose to remain in the
armed forces. Yet, as much as blacks reenlisted in the military, many thought that they were the last to
receive promotions. Lionel Anderson wrote to the Black Panther, Black people are the last to be
promoted, as far as rank goes (Hall 159). In reality, the number of blacks in the officer corps in
Vietnam was small, only about 5 percent. Yet, the Vietnam War offered African Americans
opportunities they had never had before and used them to change the military in a way not done

I think Amy classifies the shift leaders at Jones Department Store as exempt, because of the Fair Labor
Standard Act. According to the FLSA, an employee is exempt if the employee is in charge of a
department or subdivision of the enterprise (such as a shift) (n.d., para. 15). For instance, a shift leader
working at Taco Bell may spend most of his or her time assisting customers and cashiering. However,
he or she is still considered the boss even if he or she is not actually actively engaged with his or her
managerial duties (FLSA, n.d.). Therefore, even though Jane may work most of her time assisting
customers and cashiering she s still the one who makes the managerial decisions during her shift. For

According to Alexander Hamilton Institute, the Fair Labor Standard Act say s an employee is
considered exempt if he or she meets the criteria s pertaining to the duties test. The duties test criteria
include managing a customarily recognized department or subdivision of the enterprise, customarily
and regularly direct the work of at least two or more other full time employees or their equivalent, and
the authority to hire or fire other employees, or the employee s suggestions and recommendations as to
the hiring, firing, advancement, promotion, or any other change of status of other employees must be
given particular weight (2016, para. 6). Therefore, the shift leaders at Jones Department Store are
considered exempt because they assign other associates at the store to work different areas when
needed, which is one of the criteria s pertaining to the duties test. The second advantage that causes
shift leaders at Jones Department Store to be exempt from overtime pay is that they get to sit in on
employment interviews, and typically are aware of employee terminations before the employee is
fired (Martocchio, 2013, Complete Section). According to Alexander Hamilton Institute, if you get to

The War Measures Act During The September Crisis
Pierre Trudeau is one of Canada s most renowned Prime Ministers. He was in office April 20, 1968, to
June 4, 1979, and later on March 3, 1980, to June 30, 1984,.¹ An event that Pierre Trudeau is well
known for is the enactment of the War Measures Act during the October Crisis. This decision to
invoke the War Measures Act during the October Crisis has led to a great deal of controversy on
whether the act was justified. The October Crisis was a series of events in October 1970, these events
began with the kidnappings of James Cross and later Pierre Laporte by the group known as the FLQ
(Front de libération du Québec) the group s main goals were to create an independent Quebec.2 The
group resorted to terrorist acts in order to achieve those goals, this later led to Prime Minister Pierre
Trudeau invoking the War Measures Act. The War Measures Act was a federal statute adopted by
parliament during WWI and has been used 3 times; during WWI, WWII and during the October
Crisis. The act gives major power to the Canadian government to uphold security during times of great
distress.3 Pierre Trudeau was justified in enacting the War Measures Act during the October Crisis.
One reason that Pierre Trudeau was justified in invoking the War Measures Act is that the FLQ was
essentially a terrorist organization responsible for the deaths and injuries of countless people. Since
the group was formed in the early 1960 s, the terrorist group s acts had only worsened from mailbox

Topic: China s long standing battle against water pollution.
Introduction
Water pollution happens when excessive contamination in water body which is far beyond the ability
for the natural ecosystem to accommodate the contaminant. (Hu Cheng,2013) In 2006, nearly half of
major cities in China did not satisfied drinking water standard (OECD 2007). Water quality has been
dropped dramatically in China over the last few decades due to significant growth of pollutants
discharge to natural water bodies and increased abstraction of freshwater from the environment.(Hu
Cheng,2013)The most three dominant reasons for water pollution are industrial wastewater,
agricultural activities and urban runoff.(Huang et al.2010)Water pollution has become a very serious
environmental issue in China. In this article, it will firstly demonstrate how the industrial, municipal
and agricultural impact water quality and society in China. Secondly, the Chinese government s
reaction on water pollution treatment and possible challenges when implementing the water protection
policies in China. Lastly, suggesting further solutions for water treatment in China.

Rapid expansion and development of large scale energy and metallurgy production caused increasing
industrial wastewater discharge.(Hu Cheng,2013)China has experienced the enormous industrial

Defining Infringement Of Trademark Rights
2. Trademarks
Trademarks will include names or marks that are associated with Snapdeal s products and services.
While trademark rights are acquired by use, registering the company s trademark with the Indian
government Intellectual Property Office will enhance its rights. A trademark is typically a name, word,
phrase, logo, symbol, design, image, or a combination of these.
Clearly, it is notable that website content can infringe on trademark rights. The similarity of the marks
and the similarity of the goods or services are important factors in assessing infringement of trademark
rights. If Snapdeal has a unique name for its business or product then the company should seek advice
from an experienced trademark lawyer. Internet trademark use that is lawful in the website owner s
jurisdiction may infringe trademark rights in other jurisdictions.
The following are some measures that Snapdeal may consider to protect trademarks on the Internet.
Ensure that the Internet been searched for the trademark Snapdeal intends to use. It will be wise to
conduct this search before registering and using domain names.
Snapdeal should consider using and registering its domain name as a trademark. This will help the
company support a claim of trademark rights if someone challenges its use of a particular trademark.
Registrations should be made in as many common domains as possible (e.g. .com, .ca, .org, .net).
Snapdeal must declare its trademark right on its websites and also declare its

Primal Fear Gregory Hoblit
Primal Fear (1996)
Primal Fear is a neo noir crime thriller directed by Gregory Hoblit, based on William Diehl s novel of
the same name. It follows a Chicago defence attorney, Martin Vail (Richard Gere) as he defends a 19
year old choir boy (Edward Norton) who is accused of murdering an influential Archbishop.
The split personality is portrayed, like many other films using the trope, through dialogue. When
Aaron is giving his statement, he describes how he loses time or blacks out, which he said he did after
he saw the Archbishop s dead body. Later when he is explaining his blackouts to a psychiatrist

Psychodynamic Theory And Social Learning Theory Essay
The two theories discussed here will be the Psychodynamic Theory and the Social Learning Theory.
Psychodynamic theories include the wisdom of Freud and Jung. Freud discusses, defense mechanisms,
understanding the ego as it relates to rational thinking and the superego in regard to mortality.
Whereas the Social Learning Theory includes those works from Bandura, Watson, and Piaget among
others. This theory will focus on imitation, observation and modeling another s behavior to achieve a
certain desired outcome. Although their conceptual theories differ, they both reflect, shape, and
interpret the very essence of the human psyche and how we have evolved and developed over the
years.

The ego tells us we are invincible, or that we can achieve things that we may have not thought
through. Along with shaping our personality healing will also begin when we pay attention to different
transferences and the actual treatment of the relationship. Much of this type of therapy is used for
those individuals that have somehow attached their emotions to the object of relationships. Hanging
on to the favorite sweater, only listening to music that the other person loved. This can also involve,
defense mechanisms, and a struggle between the ego(rationality), and super ego (mortality). Such
therapy usually involves once weekly 50 minute sessions, the length of treatment varying between 3
months and 2 years. Essentially this particular theory method deals with resolving childhood or early
in life conflicts.
The Social Learning Theory tells us a different story in how to address those with behaviors that need
addressing, like for instance when men abuse their partners, this is a learned behavior, originating
usually within their family dynamics and cultural aspects that reward anger or violence. This is further
identified with how we interact with their environment. And while this behavior overall, is deplorable
one reason it is left to go on, is because ultimately there are positive and or negative reinforcers
guiding or directing the outcome.

Nietzsche And Mill s Ideas Of Freedom
Free to Disagree A primary objective of identifying common ground between Nietzsche and Mill s
ideas of freedom is to define freedom adequately so that it can be used as a basis for comparison. Each
theorist s opinion on what freedom is, however, appears to be fairly distinct. Mill might describe
freedom as the absence of constraints to original, individual thought, whereas Nietzsche
conceptualizes freedom as continual self overcoming to evolve a more actualized self. Freedom for
Nietzsche is overcoming wrong beliefs and creating one s own values, whereas for Mill, freedom is
having the leeway to discover one s own values. In effect, Mill focuses on the structural protections or
necessities that allow creativity to flourish, and Nietzsche wants to deconstruct those structures that
impede that flourishing. Mill emphasizes optimizing the political and social realms, which in theory
then provide a safe haven for Nietzsche s intrapsychic or spiritual struggle. Thus, Mill s definition
could be described as political whereas Nietzsche s could be understood as transformational. Both
strive toward achieving the highest level of individual potential, and both want to support discovery of
one s most individualized beliefs. Given that each theorist has such distinct views on the definition
itself, however, one needs to extrapolate the essence of what each would consider freedom to be. So
for the purposes of describing how Mill and Nietzsche intersect, this approximation of a

In order to live the good life, one must eliminate all pain and live a life with maximum pleasure.
Unlike other hedonist philosophers, Epicurus evaluated pleasures by their duration rather than their
intensity, making psychological pleasures much more desirable to physical pleasures. Epicurus, as a
consequentialist thought that in order to achieve the good life, one had to logically assess future
consequences of human actions through rational reflection and evaluation. If one were to rationally
reflect on death they would soon realise that there was nothing but oblivion after death (de Botton
2000, p. 59).
The Leading Doctrines of Epicurean philosophy state that it is impossible to live the pleasant life
without also living sensibly, nobly and justly, and conversely it is impossible to live sensibly, nobly
and justly without living pleasantly (Epicurus, 1998b, p.53). Therefore, the good Epicurean believes in
order to live virtuously, one must adhere to a pleasurable life. For Epicureans it is impossible to live
virtuously and unpleasantly or vice versa. In addition, Epicurus describes pleasure as our primary
native good (Epicurus 1998a, p. 51), implying that all human actions are driven by pleasures and by
the avoidance of pains. Another imperative concept to Epicurean philosophy is Epicurus idea of the
three fundamental aspects in attaining pleasure, those of friendship, freedom and an analysed life

Ex Oriente Lux: American neo Orientalism and the Justification for the War on Terror
The September 11, 2001, attacks on the World Trade Centre and the Pentagon fundamentally changed
the dynamic of American identity threatening it s hegemony and creating a space of insecurity thus
necessitating a reassertion of state authority. In particular, the 9/11 post traumatic space required US
participation in an ambiguous War on Terror that institutionalized racially charged violence through
the demonization of the Islamic Other . The US led project to save its identity serves to permanently

The 9/11 attacks have become a symbolic event marked by the American military retaliation and
changing East West relationship, the result being the materialization of neo Orientalist academia
wherein the Arab world is the focus and many major prototype components such as India and Turkey
are omitted from the neo Orientalist map. In the aftermath of 9/11, Orientalist depictions of an Islamic
Other have been highly visible within the Western world in both official rhetoric and the American
press effectively legitimizing normative binaries. Notably, the US War on Terror discourses promote
imaginary geographies by way of two critical axioms centering around the idea of West in opposition
of East : the righteous campaign and Islam in direct opposition to Christianity. As a form of critical
analysis, Orientalism provides an essential context in that it helps to unravel the ways in which
Eastern peoples, traditions, and cultures are depicted as irrational, backward, lazy and despotic in
direct contrast to the West, which is seen as rational, moral and the pinnacle of civilization. Prior to
the War on Terror , the US had envisaged an unequivocal role for itself and the 9/11 attacks simply
adduced the self perception of America as the brightest beacon for freedom and opportunity in the
world. The US conception of the world draws heavily on the binaries of good and evil, viewing 9/11

Sepoy Rebellion Research Paper
Although some of the rumors that caused the Sepoy Rebellion may not have been true, the belief that
the British were trying to modify Indian culture caused the Sepoy Rebellion. The sepoys felt that their
religion was being severely disrespected their religions. Sir Colin Campbell, the leader of the British
forces during the Sepoy Rebellion said that Injudicious attempts to convert Sepoys to Christianity
[were] made, and [the Sepoys believed] that they were to be converted by compulsion. . . . The sepoys
probably became enraged when they believed that they were going to be forced to convert, and this
presumably contributed to the Sepoy Rebellion. Campbell also seems to have a reliable view of what

Dr. Joseph Coohill, a modern historian stated that Lord Dalhousie, Governor General of India,
introduced the so called Doctrine of Lapse, a policy which allowed the British East India Company to
extend its control into Indian territory when a native ruler died.... Forcing Indians to have British
rulers could have sowed discord between the British and sepoys. Coohill does not seem to have any
ulterior motives, and even wrote an article in History Today called Indian Voices from the 1857
Rebellion , which presumably means he is sympathetic towards the sepoys. This could potentially
affect his point of view, but it doesn t appear to Sayyid Ahmed Khan, a Muslim scholar and noble who
was initially loyal to the British, and then went on to blame British policies and mistakes for the Sepoy
Rebellion, recalled that The evils which resulted to India from the non admission of natives into the
Legislative Council of India were various......Whatever law was passed was misconstrued by men who
had no share in the framing of it. At length the Hindustanis fell into the habit of thinking that all the

felt with their ruler who did not represent them, but instead represented England. This frustration
seemed to build up until the Sepoy Rebellion.. Khan s initial support of the British could be because of
his high status, but paints a good picture of the distrust between the Indians and the British. When the
Sepoy Rebellion happened, there was an attempt to make the last remaining Mughal Empire leader to
be in control of all of India. This showed that Indians did not want to be ruled by the British, but

American Pie, by Don McLean Essay
Analysis of the song American Pie , by Don McLean
The song American Pie , by Don McLean, was a major rock and roll hit in 1971. McLean portrays
famous rock and roll singer and songwriter Buddy Holly, who died in a plane crash in 1961 by using
many rhetorical strategies. The different possible interpretations of this song made it one of the most
controversial songs from the 1970 s.
Don McLean was a famous singer/songwriter who was popular in the 1970 s. His music is mostly
classified into rock and roll. The audience of this song can be anyone. The majority of the people

The address to the term, Miss American Pie references a plane that went down killing singer Buddy
Holly. The line, The quartet practiced in the park, refers to the famous pop group Beatles who became
famous shortly after the death of Holly. All of the other symbolism in this song revolves events that
happened around that time of Holly s death. McLean uses informal irony in the tone of the song to
convey this deep symbolism. Because of the depth, there is a big controversy on what some of the
words represent. Some people even think Miss American Pie represents the civil rights activist Martin
Luther King Jr.. One example of McLean s use of irony is in the story about Holly. The irony comes
from how he describes when Holly was younger, he borrowed a coat from James Dean, and then many
years later he was a famous singer. McLean uses a subjective point of view as he uses his
interpretations, comments, and judgments to appeal to pathos in this song.
McLean uses only two of the rhetorical appeals. Ethos is used when he describes the other singers
most people know about. And while Lenin read a book on Marx, emphasizes ethos because Lenin was
a famous singer who people respect. Pathos was used throughout the whole piece especially when he
said the lovers cried and the poets screamed. This quote describes the people s sadness towards the
death of Holly, which appeals to the listener in many emotional ways. He also uses

Key Ideas In The Film The Killing Fields
What is the main idea of The Killing Fields ? In the film The Killing Fields , there are lots of key
ideas, which make the film watchable and likeable. One of the key ideas of The Killing Fields is the
development of the friendship between, Dith Pran and Sydney Shanberg. Another key idea, in the
film, is survival. Survival was an important factor for Pran as he was captured, and was taken to a
working camp where, the Khmer Rouge ran the camps. The main idea of The Killing Fields is the
lasting friendship, between Dith Pran and Sydney Shanberg. At the start of the film, Shanberg is
experiencing lots of horrific things, right beside Pran and no matter what happens, they stick together,
through it all. When Shanberg found out the American embassy was going to be evacuated, he told
Pran to get his family out of Cambodia. Therefore Shanberg helped out Pran, and his family. This
helps Pran and Shanberg create a stronger relationship. Another example of how strong their
friendship is, was when the American Embassy was evacuated, despite all the dangers that they are
going to faced, they decided they would stay in Cambodia and finish the story together. Again

How Does Citizen Kane Use Cinematography

This essay is an analysis of a key sequence in Citizen Kane (Orson Welles, 1941) that uses
cinematography to create mystery, intrigue, and disorder. The scenes introduce us to many main
characters and help establish the film.
The initial scene is set in a projector room where Rawlston is telling his employees, mainly Mr.
Thompson to find out more about rosebud. A long shot is used to establish the surroundings, however;
the lighting blocks off a lot of what can be seen. It is argued that their visual mysteriousness reflects
the dramatic mystery that is Kane. (Brophy, P 2008). The lighting choices do limit any clear

The camera goes into the house and it pulls back into a deep focus, this establishes the surrounding. It
also allows ...the spectator to work out the relationships between the characters and extract the poetic
and emotional implications of the scene (Mulvey, L. 20) it gives an external look at what is going on,
especially in a scene so important. Deep focus also keeps Kane in the back of everybody s mind as his
parents are deciding to sign him over to Thatcher. However, the deep focus could also be used in the
scene as a way to keep Kane more mysterious the flashbacks to his past... are frustrating our desire to
decipher Kane and thus identify with him. We are enabled to inhabit this character s space, but not
him. (Cardullo R., J .73). In the background, Charles is shouting Union forever ironically as his
parents are breaking their familial union. The placement of the characters has sidelined Mr. Kane to
insinuate that Mrs. Kane is the one in charge as she is the closest and in the foreground. Throughout
the scene, Mrs. Kane is distant and has no eye line match or emotion in her voice. This is done to
show how emotionally distraught she is and how she is trying to keep herself together. Arguably Mrs.
Kane s grammatically correct speech and her dark dress are iconographically closer to Thatcher than
to her husband. (Mulvey, L. 54) which creates a break in the familial bond. A tracking shot brings

obeying the commandments of God.
All three churches identify and Christians and believe that the Bible is God s word. They also accept
Jesus Christ as the God, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Both the Baptist Church and the Latter day Saint

Black Tea Lab Report
Introduction:
The purpose of this lab is to see if black tea helps as a natural fertilizer to enhance the growth of the
radish plants. In order for a seedling to grow into a healthy mature plant, it must have nourishments
like water and nutrients. Tannic acid and nutrients are some of the nutritional ingredients in black tea,
when these nutrients are added to soil it becomes a more habitable place for the seedlings to develop
into plants. Tea leaves also have nitrogen in them, nitrogen is a vital nutrient for plants to grow.
Purpose:
The purpose of this lab is to see if black tea mixed with water will help increase the rate of growth for
a radish plant, as appose to the use of solely water.
Question:
How does black tea affect the growth ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Poured 15 ml of tea water into Bravo
9. Poured 10 ml of tea water substance into Charlie
10. Then with the scoopla picked up the grinded leaves from the bottom of the beaker and packed
them on the top of each plant (except for Devonte)
Discussion Section:
In the lab, all of the plants had a constant rate of growth because all four plants were newly planted.
The plants were taken care of and fed in the same way, so the predicted outcome was that they would
grow at the same rate for the duration of the lab.
Conclusion:
This lab was conducted to see what happens when black tea and water are used to enhance the growth
of a radish plant. The hypothesis was that the plants that were given the black tea and water mixture
were going to grow faster than the control plant (Devonte). The hypothesis was partially correct
because all the plants grew substantially large closer to the end of the lab. Plant 2 (Bravo) started to
wither away and die because it was over fed, and eventually drowned in water. The other two plants
grew at a consistent pace and developed into healthy mature plants. To sum up, the lab that was
conducted was successful in the sense that two out of the four plants grew rapidly without the use of
enhancements or

The Role Of Indian Fdi On Nepalese Economic Growth
3. Data and Methodology Present paper utilizes the annual data of GDP, Indian FDI, level of
Investment and Export in real terms from the period 1989/90 to 2013/14. The concerned variables are
transformed into logarithm and hereafter these are denoted by 〖LnGDP〗_t,〖LnFDI〗_t 〖LnI〗_t
and 〖LnX〗_t . Fully Modified Ordinary Least Squares (FMOLS) is the main econometric
methodology used in this paper to examine the role and impact of Indian FDI on Nepalese economic
growth. The FMOLS of economic growth of Nepal on Indian FDI augmented with level of investment
and export has been used to find the magnitude of long run relationship between the variables under
study. GDP is taken as the proxy for Nepalese economic growth. Some attention is necessary while
employing FMOLS test. The variables under study must be cointegrated. So before applying the
FMOLS we examine the cointegration by method of Johansen s (1990) cointegration test. Prior to
employing the Johansen s Cointegration test we perform unit root test using ADF method. FMOLS
method was designed by Phillips and Hansen (1990) to estimate the cointegrating regressions. This
method employs a semi parametric correction to eliminate the problems created by long run
correlation between cointegrating equation and stochastic regressors innovations. This method is used
to modify the least squares to account for serial correlation effects and for the endogeneity in the
regressions that result from the existence of cointegrating

Lesson of the Moth Poetry Analysis
Amber Brewer Dr. Fussell ENGL 1302 April 8, 2011 The lesson of the moth Analysis by Don Marquis
The title of this poem by Don Marquis is The Lesson of the Moth because it is a poem about the
thoughts of a moth and his outlook on life. The overall poem would be considered argumentative
being the moth is trying to inform the man that he should live his life and let his hair down a little
more instead of relishing the everyday routines of life. This is shown in paragraph 3 when the moth
says But we get bored with the routine/and crave beauty/and excitement. (18 20)Another example of
the passage being argumentative is when the man says and before I could argue him/out of his
philosophy. (43 44) Don Marquis expressed several tones ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The speakers use of words symbolized things as well which reflected on the tone of the poems. The
speaker expresses how the moth relates excitement with beauty and also by saying fire is beauty too.
The word excitement could mean to the moth having fun and living life. However, compared to the
man, the word excitement could mean trouble or risky being that the moth is trying to fry himself on
the electric bulb. In conclusion, Don Marquis message that he was attempting to display can be true
however it can incur some serious consequences at times. Works Cited Marquis, Don. The Lesson of
the Moth. Reading Literature and Writing Argument. Ed. Missy James and Alan P. Merickel. New

Analysis of Direct Costs
Analysis of Direct Costs
Direct material cost is the price laid down on items that are used in the fabrication of a product or that
are used as service providers. The price caters for the transportation of the items from the
manufacturer to the consumer, in transit cover and the cost of any unforeseen events which may
include damages that might occur, substandard work, and overruns. In the direct material cost, the
buyer is always supplied with a copy of the contract form which is to be signed after he/she has gone
through and is contented with the laid down rules. The same buyer sends a local purchase order to the
manufacturer on the goods or items that he/she requires. In relation to other direct costs, the charges
are endorsed on specific costs objective(s) such as include special tooling and test equipment,
computer services, long distance costs, and telephone costs. Therefore, the buyer is expected to know
whether the seller can be accountable in case of any eventuality and the system estimate ( Lesson 5
Analysis of Direct Labor , n.d.). One of the challenges that are experienced in the analysis of direct
material costs and other direct cost is overestimation and especially on renovation projects. It has
become a challenge in the sense that contractors submit their quotations without putting into
consideration necessary some factors. These factors include visiting the site where the project is in
order to know the exact materials that are required for the

`` The Screwtape Letters Of The Devil And Give Us An...
C. S. Lewis, one of the greatest spiritual writers the world has known, wrote the Screwtape Letters to
mock the evil works of the devil and give us an understanding of spiritual warfare that is constantly
going on all around us. Many people refuse to believe their lives are being interfered with by spiritual
forces, but it is not something that should be ignored. Lewis saw the importance in recognizing
spiritual warfare in order to learn how to fight it, and that is one of his inspirations for writing this
book. Although we aren t sure how demons attempt to lead us away from God, Lewis gives a detailed
account on what he believes is a way they could go about it. The Screwtape Letters is a book made up
of letters from a demon, Screwtape, addressed to his nephew, Wormwood. Wormwood is assigned his
first patient and it is his skilled Uncle Screwtape s job to help him through the process. A patient is the
demon s human that they are assigned to keep away from God and to constantly face with temptation.
Screwtape receives reports from Wormwood each week and then responds with advice and techniques.
Screwtape highlights many different ways to keep us from following God, especially with limiting our
understanding of real to mean only the material (23). In other words, demons don t want us to think
about the spiritual world around us, only about real materials lacking the meaning of the purpose of
life so that we don t ask questions about what will happen to us after death.

Kristen s Cookie Company
Kristen s Cookie Company
Kristen s Cookie Company is a good example where the success or failure of the company depends
directly on the process planning adopted by the company, i.e., the company can maximize its
productivity by utilizing its resources effectively. One major aspect of process analysis is to identify
the major bottlenecks in the process and trying to mitigate their effects with least possible level of
costs and resources. The following flowchart shows the overall process adopted by the company:
(Exhibit 1)
Filling a rush order:
Process Resource(s) Process Time Cumulative Time Consumed

So, if labor cost is Rs. 20 per hour, we get the following costs distribution:
Order size Labor Time Cost Cost per Dozen
1 dozen 12 Rs. 4.00 Rs. 4.00
2 dozen 17 Rs. 5.66 Rs. 2.83 Thus, cost per dozen of labor is decreasing. This can be applied to orders
of more than two dozens as well. Hence, Kristen s Cookie Company can give discounts to customers
giving orders of more than one dozen because of the economies of scale as shown above.
Material Requirements:
The processor is required for mixing the ingredients for the cookies and is idle for most of the time.
The oven required for the purpose of baking is the major bottleneck and there is no requirement for
more than one processor. Hence, spending money on more than one processor would not be advisable
for Kristen s Cookie Company.
The baking trays are required for three activities, namely, filling it and keeping it ready for baking,
baking it in the oven, and cooling it after baking is done. Since the baking and cooling processes will
be going on for at most one tray at a given time and the mixing process gets material ready for at most
three trays of one dozen each, five trays would be sufficient, though, even three trays would serve the
purpose if mixing and filling activities are done properly. Hence, it is advisable for Kristen s Cookie
Company to go for at least three baking trays to maximize its productivity.
Cost Benefit Analysis:
The cost benefit analysis can be done by

Treasure Coast Research Paper
Florida s Treasure Coast is the common appellation given to the Florida coastal section, which extends
from the Inlet in the north to south of Hobe Sound. It comprises all the coastal counties of Indian
River, St. Lucie, and Martin. The region has a rich history that goes back 300 years, where Spanish
galleons replete with gold and silver, shipwrecked off the southeastern Florida shore, losing all their
treasure to the deep waters. Treasure Coast provided pirates and smugglers with sanctuary during the
18th century. The Spanish explorers drove the first human inhabitants, the Timucuan Indians, from
Treasure Coast, beginning with their arrival in 1528. By the 19th century, small communities began to
appear as settler moved into the region. Today, the Treasure Coast is a unique mix of small town, laid

Health Cruises, Inc.
Health Cruises, Inc. packages cruises to Caribbean islands such as Martinique and the Bahamas. Like
conventional cruises, the packages are designed to be fun. But the cruise is structured to help
participants become healthier by breaking old habits, such as smoking and overeating. The Miami
based firm was conceived by Susan Isom, 30, a self styled innovator and entrepreneur. Prior to this
venture, she had spent several years in North Carolina promoting a behavior modification clinic.
Isom determined that many people were very concerned about developing good health habits, yet they
seemed unable to break away from their old habits because of the pressures of day to day living. She
reasoned that they might have a chance for much greater success in a pleasant and socially supportive
environment, where good health habits were fostered. Accordingly, she established Health Cruises,
Inc., hired 10 consulting psychologists and health specialists to develop a program, and chartered a
ship. DeForrest Young, a Miami management consultant, became the chairperson of Health Cruises.
Seven of Isom s business associates contributed an initial capital outlay totaling more than $250,000.
Of this amount, $65,000 went for the initial advertising budget, $10,000 for other administrative
expenses, and $220,000 for the ship rental and crew.

Why Is Boo Important In To Kill A Mockingbird
Throughout To Kill a Mockingbird Boo Radley is thought of by everyone in town as crazy and creepy.
Boo Has gotten into a lot of trouble in the past. He was charged by the police for grand theft auto and
also stabbed his dad in the leg with a pair of scissors. This doesn t mean that he deserves to spend the
rest of his life locked up inside of his house though. Boo is like a mockingbird kind, not seen, and
quiet. Tom Robinson is also like a mockingbird, quiet, honest, and kind. Which one more resembles a
mockingbird Boo or Tom? Boo was kind like a mockingbird in many different ways. One of those
ways was when Boo started putting stuff in the tree for Scout and Jem(Lee 44). This is important
because it gives Scout and Jem the idea that Boo is actually kind and that he wants to be friends. The
reason he put stuff in the tree is because he wanted people to think that he is kind to children. All of
the stuff that Boo put in the tree is friendly stuff that kids might want or like to play with. Another
example of this was when Boo found Jem s pants. Boo cleaned them, folded them, and put them back
on the fence. (Lee 71). This is important because it shows Scout and Jem that Boo does not want to
hurt them and that he does not care that they are messing with them, he just wants to be friends. These
are both examples of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Tom would always go over to Mayella Ewell s house and help her out with whatever needed to be
done(Lee 256). Also he never talks badly about anyone, or even yells at anyone while he is in court.
Both Tom Robinson and Boo are kind to other people and respects them. It seems as though Boo is
more kind than Tom Robinson. Boo had more examples from the book that proved he was kind. Tom
robinson only had a few. Tom Robinson does not have as many appearances in the book as Boo does,
that can also be a factor of why Boo is kinder. All in all they are both kind people and do not cause
any harm to

He retracted the statement a week later, insisting that the sale of weapons had not been an arms for

Not only did he knowingly commit these treasonous acts, he then went on to knowlingly lie about
them. First, he denied the operations existance, then he denied the truth of the matter. This is similar to
Nixon s involvement with the watergate scandal (except Nixon didn t order the covert actions, only
covered them up). Nixon was in the process of impeachment and conviction when he resigned as
president and was later pardoned. Reagan is in a very similar situation to this, except he took the extra
step further and actually aided in the premeditation and execution of the actions.(4)
The Treasonous Actions of Reagan
The actions that Reagan took are treasonous because he, The President of the United States,
knowingly approved and supported a foreign policy that A) Violated US law B) Violated an arms
embargo against an enemy of America C) assissted terrorists that were taking US citizens as hostages.
These are all acts that knowlingly gave aid to enemies of the United States, and therefore are acts of

  • 2. Frostburg State University-Personal Narrative Analysis A lot of people have life lessons or events that have changed them somehow. I have a very petrifying experience that changed how I see things. I was about ten years old when this happens my family and I were going on a trip to Frostburg State University. It was a Friday after school, I had to pack the night before, so we could leave right after I got off the bus, I remember not being very excited about going nor were my brothers. My parents were very excited though because it was the college that they both graduated from. I had no desire in going because I was only ten at the time, so I did not need to be visiting colleges, or going to more school on my weekend. We were just doing this for my parents, this obviously meant a lot to them. I don t have much recognition of the ride up because I slept the majority of the it. ... For example, before creating a page for a new article and a new topic, you have to make sure that the subject you tackled is either popular enough or old enough to be published. Yet there are some exceptions to this rule. It is the case for sudden events such as November 2015 Paris attacks that took place few days ago but already have a Wikipedia page.i Notability is not the only criterion to take into account before knowing if your article can be published or not. You also have to follow some basic rules such as avoiding plagiarism or always cite your sources at the end of the article. Moreover as an author you have to remain as neutral as possible. One of Wikipedia s goal is to provide information without any biased point of view or personal statement. Maybe the two most important and famous pillars of Wikipedia are the fact that it is free to use and licence free. Anyone can publish, edit or use a Wikipedia article as long as one follows the rules mentioned earlier.ii Without a doubt, Wikipedia is a website that you can use from time to time to find some pieces of information about various subjects. Since it is an open website it covers a very wide spectrum of topics. One of the drawbacks of it being open is that its content is not 100% reliable. That is the reason why to write an essay it is better to avoid the use of this website. However some parts of articles cannot be edited ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Although there was a film produced about his life, there is a lot that the world doesn t know about Mr. Hughes. Howard Hughes was born on December 24, 1905 in Humble, Texas to Allene and Howard R. Hughes Sr. He had an early fascination for mechanics around age 10. By 12, he had built his own motorcycle. I believe that his fascination began with his father s tool company that was built in 1909. In 1928 he received his pilot license. In 1932, Howard started Hughes Aircraft Company, which was part of his father s previously known business, Hughes Tool Company. It was originally developed to turn a military aircraft into a racer, but it eventually developed aviation inventions (Lerner, 2004). Essay about Writers and Intellectuals in Exile Writers and Intellectuals in Exile It may be that writers in my position, exiles... are haunted by some sense of loss, some urge to reclaim, to look back, even at the risk of being mutated into pillars of salt 1 said Salman Rushdie. The loss and love of home is not what constitutes an exilic existence; what actually and in true sense constitutes it is the chasm between carrying forth and leaving behind and straddling the two different cultures from two different positions. In my paper, I propose to look at the two sides of an exilic existence the negative that which has the horrors and trauma with reference to Adorno and Said; and the positive, that which provides the intellectuals and writers a critical and reflective insight, and here I ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Exile in itself is a traumatic experience and becomes more aggravated owing to the formation of strong opinionated groups based on the political affiliations or the social construct. Both Adorno and Said enunciate this predicament of the exiles where isolation becomes so worse that exiled groups start suspecting their own members. The moment the formation of politically directed groups begin to take shape, the suspicion and hostility towards those branded as the members of others (Adorno, 33) too simultaneously commences. Adorno says, The moment when you hope for the slightest sigh of the same solidarity from them, or even mere sympathy for your own share of the social product of suffering, they show you the cold shoulder (Adorno, 51 52). The displacements may in many ways be a calamity and a catastrophe for many. But, there is another side to it too. It is a peculiar and also quite a compelling point to note that many writers and intellectuals tend to outshine in their displaced existence. It seems as if the changed environment, the one outside the country of residence acts as a stimulant for them. The exile becomes a kind of rejuvenation so to say, for Victor Hugo fairly did experience this change in his fifteen year exile on the island of Guernsey, where he penned some his famous works. Late in life, Newton apologized for the algebraic style of recent mathematical progress. He favored the classical geometrical method of the Greeks because of its clarity and rigor (5). Newton also made extreme progress in physics. According to the well known story, Newton witnessed an apple falling from a tree in his orchard. From this he conceivedan idea in his mind that the same force that governs the Moon could also, control the apple. Newton then calculated the force needed to hold the moon in its orbit comparing it to the force that pulls an object to the ground. He furthered his experiment to include calculations from the centripetal force equation and the pendulum sling relationship. Thus, this began the experimentation of gravity and the development of the laws of gravity. While working with John Hooke, Newton redirected his experiment to the problem of the path of a body subjected to a centrally directed force that varies as the inverse square of the distance. Newton determined this to be an ellipse. With an interest in Haley s Comet, Newton demonstrated the relationship of his new findings with his previous findings (6). This led him to write a brief essay on mechanics, and to finally write the Principia. The Book Principia is broken into three parts. During the years leading up to and after 1973, there were numerous events and situations that occurred. Before 1965, the idea of right to privacy was barely used, but Griswold v. The case was taken to the Supreme Court and was later decided that everyone is entitled to their right to privacy. This set the precedent for Roe v. Wade because without Griswold v. It is a really questionable moment, why she decided to go to the back door instead of using a main entrance. Another very interesting moment where Elizabeth Taylor wisely decided to use a foreshadowing is the end of the short story, when Sylvia noticed a fly paper located in the house of an old lady: She stared up at a fly paper hanging in the window the only disconcerting thing in the room. Some of the flies were still half alive, and striving hopelessly to free themselves. But they were caught forever. . Performance appraisals are used to determine who needs what training, and who will be promoted, demoted, retained, or fired within organizations (Business Dictionary, 2015). Lastly, Vietnam changed America culturally by causing mistrust in government. In the 1960s through early 70s, the Vietnam War changed America in ways that nothing had ever done before. For example, ...eligible men from the middle and upper class could normally find ways of avoiding service, or at least service in Vietnam, meaning the burden of the draft fell on working class whites and minorities. Consequently, African Americans were drafted in disproportionately higher numbers than were whites (Hall 150). However, after their enlistments were up, more than two thirds of eligible African Americans chose to re enlist while only around 12 percent of whites chose to remain in the armed forces. Yet, as much as blacks reenlisted in the military, many thought that they were the last to receive promotions. Lionel Anderson wrote to the Black Panther, Black people are the last to be promoted, as far as rank goes (Hall 159). According to the FLSA, an employee is exempt if the employee is in charge of a department or subdivision of the enterprise (such as a shift) (n.d., para. 15). For instance, a shift leader working at Taco Bell may spend most of his or her time assisting customers and cashiering. However, he or she is still considered the boss even if he or she is not actually actively engaged with his or her managerial duties (FLSA, n.d.). He was in office April 20, 1968, to June 4, 1979, and later on March 3, 1980, to June 30, 1984,.¹ An event that Pierre Trudeau is well known for is the enactment of the War Measures Act during the October Crisis. This decision to invoke the War Measures Act during the October Crisis has led to a great deal of controversy on whether the act was justified. The October Crisis was a series of events in October 1970, these events began with the kidnappings of James Cross and later Pierre Laporte by the group known as the FLQ (Front de libération du Québec) the group s main goals were to create an independent Quebec.2 The group resorted to terrorist acts in order to achieve those goals, this later led to Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau invoking the War Measures Act. The War Measures Act was a federal statute adopted by parliament during WWI and has been used 3 times; during WWI, WWII and during the October Crisis. The act gives major power to the Canadian government to uphold security during times of great distress.3 Pierre Trudeau was justified in enacting the War Measures Act during the October Crisis. One reason that Pierre Trudeau was justified in invoking the War Measures Act is that the FLQ was essentially a terrorist organization responsible for the deaths and injuries of countless people. While trademark rights are acquired by use, registering the company s trademark with the Indian government Intellectual Property Office will enhance its rights. A trademark is typically a name, word, phrase, logo, symbol, design, image, or a combination of these. Clearly, it is notable that website content can infringe on trademark rights. The similarity of the marks and the similarity of the goods or services are important factors in assessing infringement of trademark rights. If Snapdeal has a unique name for its business or product then the company should seek advice from an experienced trademark lawyer. Internet trademark use that is lawful in the website owner s jurisdiction may infringe trademark rights in other jurisdictions. The following are some measures that Snapdeal may consider to protect trademarks on the Internet. Ensure that the Internet been searched for the trademark Snapdeal intends to use. It will be wise to conduct this search before registering and using domain names. Snapdeal should consider using and registering its domain name as a trademark. This will help the company support a claim of trademark rights if someone challenges its use of a particular trademark. Registrations should be made in as many common domains as possible (e.g. .com, .ca, .org, .net). Snapdeal must declare its trademark right on its websites and also declare its ... It follows a Chicago defence attorney, Martin Vail (Richard Gere) as he defends a 19 year old choir boy (Edward Norton) who is accused of murdering an influential Archbishop. The split personality is portrayed, like many other films using the trope, through dialogue. • 28. Nietzsche And Mill s Ideas Of Freedom Free to Disagree A primary objective of identifying common ground between Nietzsche and Mill s ideas of freedom is to define freedom adequately so that it can be used as a basis for comparison. Each theorist s opinion on what freedom is, however, appears to be fairly distinct. Mill might describe freedom as the absence of constraints to original, individual thought, whereas Nietzsche conceptualizes freedom as continual self overcoming to evolve a more actualized self. Freedom for Nietzsche is overcoming wrong beliefs and creating one s own values, whereas for Mill, freedom is having the leeway to discover one s own values. In effect, Mill focuses on the structural protections or necessities that allow creativity to flourish, and Nietzsche wants to deconstruct those structures that impede that flourishing. Mill emphasizes optimizing the political and social realms, which in theory then provide a safe haven for Nietzsche s intrapsychic or spiritual struggle. Thus, Mill s definition could be described as political whereas Nietzsche s could be understood as transformational. Both strive toward achieving the highest level of individual potential, and both want to support discovery of one s most individualized beliefs. Given that each theorist has such distinct views on the definition itself, however, one needs to extrapolate the essence of what each would consider freedom to be. In order to live the good life, one must eliminate all pain and live a life with maximum pleasure. Unlike other hedonist philosophers, Epicurus evaluated pleasures by their duration rather than their intensity, making psychological pleasures much more desirable to physical pleasures. Epicurus, as a consequentialist thought that in order to achieve the good life, one had to logically assess future consequences of human actions through rational reflection and evaluation. If one were to rationally reflect on death they would soon realise that there was nothing but oblivion after death (de Botton 2000, p. 59). The Leading Doctrines of Epicurean philosophy state that it is impossible to live the pleasant life without also living sensibly, nobly and justly, and conversely it is impossible to live sensibly, nobly and justly without living pleasantly (Epicurus, 1998b, p.53). Therefore, the good Epicurean believes in order to live virtuously, one must adhere to a pleasurable life. For Epicureans it is impossible to live virtuously and unpleasantly or vice versa. In addition, Epicurus describes pleasure as our primary native good (Epicurus 1998a, p. 51), implying that all human actions are driven by pleasures and by the avoidance of pains. Another imperative concept to Epicurean philosophy is Epicurus idea of the three fundamental aspects in attaining pleasure, those of friendship, freedom and an analysed life

The 9/11 attacks have become a symbolic event marked by the American military retaliation and changing East West relationship, the result being the materialization of neo Orientalist academia wherein the Arab world is the focus and many major prototype components such as India and Turkey are omitted from the neo Orientalist map. In the aftermath of 9/11, Orientalist depictions of an Islamic Other have been highly visible within the Western world in both official rhetoric and the American press effectively legitimizing normative binaries. Notably, the US War on Terror discourses promote imaginary geographies by way of two critical axioms centering around the idea of West in opposition of East : the righteous campaign and Islam in direct opposition to Christianity. As a form of critical analysis, Orientalism provides an essential context in that it helps to unravel the ways in which Eastern peoples, traditions, and cultures are depicted as irrational, backward, lazy and despotic in direct contrast to the West, which is seen as rational, moral and the pinnacle of civilization. Prior to the War on Terror , the US had envisaged an unequivocal role for itself and the 9/11 attacks simply adduced the self perception of America as the brightest beacon for freedom and opportunity in the world. The line, The quartet practiced in the park, refers to the famous pop group Beatles who became famous shortly after the death of Holly. All of the other symbolism in this song revolves events that happened around that time of Holly s death. McLean uses informal irony in the tone of the song to convey this deep symbolism. Because of the depth, there is a big controversy on what some of the words represent. Some people even think Miss American Pie represents the civil rights activist Martin Luther King Jr.. One example of McLean s use of irony is in the story about Holly. The irony comes from how he describes when Holly was younger, he borrowed a coat from James Dean, and then many years later he was a famous singer. McLean uses a subjective point of view as he uses his interpretations, comments, and judgments to appeal to pathos in this song. McLean uses only two of the rhetorical appeals. Ethos is used when he describes the other singers most people know about. And while Lenin read a book on Marx, emphasizes ethos because Lenin was a famous singer who people respect. The concerned variables are transformed into logarithm and hereafter these are denoted by 〖LnGDP〗_t,〖LnFDI〗_t 〖LnI〗_t and 〖LnX〗_t . Fully Modified Ordinary Least Squares (FMOLS) is the main econometric methodology used in this paper to examine the role and impact of Indian FDI on Nepalese economic growth. The FMOLS of economic growth of Nepal on Indian FDI augmented with level of investment and export has been used to find the magnitude of long run relationship between the variables under study. GDP is taken as the proxy for Nepalese economic growth. Some attention is necessary while employing FMOLS test. The variables under study must be cointegrated. So before applying the FMOLS we examine the cointegration by method of Johansen s (1990) cointegration test. Prior to employing the Johansen s Cointegration test we perform unit root test using ADF method. FMOLS method was designed by Phillips and Hansen (1990) to estimate the cointegrating regressions. • 42. Analysis of Direct Costs Analysis of Direct Costs Direct material cost is the price laid down on items that are used in the fabrication of a product or that are used as service providers. The price caters for the transportation of the items from the manufacturer to the consumer, in transit cover and the cost of any unforeseen events which may include damages that might occur, substandard work, and overruns. In the direct material cost, the buyer is always supplied with a copy of the contract form which is to be signed after he/she has gone through and is contented with the laid down rules. The same buyer sends a local purchase order to the manufacturer on the goods or items that he/she requires. In relation to other direct costs, the charges are endorsed on specific costs objective(s) such as include special tooling and test equipment, computer services, long distance costs, and telephone costs. • 43. `` The Screwtape Letters Of The Devil And Give Us An... C. S. Lewis, one of the greatest spiritual writers the world has known, wrote the Screwtape Letters to mock the evil works of the devil and give us an understanding of spiritual warfare that is constantly going on all around us. Many people refuse to believe their lives are being interfered with by spiritual forces, but it is not something that should be ignored. Lewis saw the importance in recognizing spiritual warfare in order to learn how to fight it, and that is one of his inspirations for writing this book. Although we aren t sure how demons attempt to lead us away from God, Lewis gives a detailed account on what he believes is a way they could go about it. The Screwtape Letters is a book made up of letters from a demon, Screwtape, addressed to his nephew, Wormwood. Wormwood is assigned his first patient and it is his skilled Uncle Screwtape s job to help him through the process. A patient is the demon s human that they are assigned to keep away from God and to constantly face with temptation. Screwtape receives reports from Wormwood each week and then responds with advice and techniques. Screwtape highlights many different ways to keep us from following God, especially with limiting our understanding of real to mean only the material (23). In other words, demons don t want us to think about the spiritual world around us, only about real materials lacking the meaning of the purpose of life so that we don t ask questions about what will happen to us after death. ... Kristen s Cookie Company Kristen s Cookie Company Kristen s Cookie Company is a good example where the success or failure of the company depends directly on the process planning adopted by the company, i.e., the company can maximize its productivity by utilizing its resources effectively. One major aspect of process analysis is to identify the major bottlenecks in the process and trying to mitigate their effects with least possible level of costs and resources. This can be applied to orders of more than two dozens as well. Hence, Kristen s Cookie Company can give discounts to customers giving orders of more than one dozen because of the economies of scale as shown above. Material Requirements: The processor is required for mixing the ingredients for the cookies and is idle for most of the time. The oven required for the purpose of baking is the major bottleneck and there is no requirement for more than one processor. Hence, spending money on more than one processor would not be advisable for Kristen s Cookie Company. The baking trays are required for three activities, namely, filling it and keeping it ready for baking, baking it in the oven, and cooling it after baking is done. Since the baking and cooling processes will be going on for at most one tray at a given time and the mixing process gets material ready for at most three trays of one dozen each, five trays would be sufficient, though, even three trays would serve the purpose if mixing and filling activities are done properly. Hence, it is advisable for Kristen s Cookie Company to go for at least three baking trays to maximize its productivity. Cost Benefit Analysis: The cost benefit analysis can be done by ... Health Cruises, Inc. packages cruises to Caribbean islands such as Martinique and the Bahamas. Like conventional cruises, the packages are designed to be fun. But the cruise is structured to help participants become healthier by breaking old habits, such as smoking and overeating. The Miami based firm was conceived by Susan Isom, 30, a self styled innovator and entrepreneur. Prior to this venture, she had spent several years in North Carolina promoting a behavior modification clinic. Isom determined that many people were very concerned about developing good health habits, yet they seemed unable to break away from their old habits because of the pressures of day to day living. She reasoned that they might have a chance for much greater success in a pleasant and socially supportive environment, where good health habits were fostered. Accordingly, she established Health Cruises, Inc., hired 10 consulting psychologists and health specialists to develop a program, and chartered a ship. DeForrest Young, a Miami management consultant, became the chairperson of Health Cruises. Seven of Isom s business associates contributed an initial capital outlay totaling more than $250,000. Of this amount, $65,000 went for the initial advertising budget, $10,000 for other administrative expenses, and $220,000 for the ship rental and crew. Boo Has gotten into a lot of trouble in the past. He was charged by the police for grand theft auto and also stabbed his dad in the leg with a pair of scissors. This doesn t mean that he deserves to spend the rest of his life locked up inside of his house though. Boo is like a mockingbird kind, not seen, and quiet. Tom Robinson is also like a mockingbird, quiet, honest, and kind. Which one more resembles a mockingbird Boo or Tom? Boo was kind like a mockingbird in many different ways. One of those ways was when Boo started putting stuff in the tree for Scout and Jem(Lee 44). This is important because it gives Scout and Jem the idea that Boo is actually kind and that he wants to be friends. The reason he put stuff in the tree is because he wanted people to think that he is kind to children. All of the stuff that Boo put in the tree is friendly stuff that kids might want or like to play with. Another example of this was when Boo found Jem s pants. Boo cleaned them, folded them, and put them back on the fence. (Lee 71). This is important because it shows Scout and Jem that Boo does not want to hurt them and that he does not care that they are messing with them, he just wants to be friends. It seems as though Boo is more kind than Tom Robinson. Boo had more examples from the book that proved he was kind. Tom robinson only had a few.
