2. The Unpopularity Of Franz Ferdinand
Franz Ferdinand was the Archduke of Austria and the heir apparent of the Austro Hungarian
Empire. Ferdinand s unpopularity stemmed from the policies he intended to implement as Emperor
and his poor attitude. Surprisingly, Ferdinand was a family man the happy husband of Sophie
Chotek and the devoted father of three. Moreover, Franz Ferdinand suffered from tuberculosis and
many believed that he would not live to inherit the throne.
Franz Ferdinand traveled to Sarajevo, Bosnia to inspect their imperial armed forces. At Sarajevo,
Franz and Sophie Ferdinand were traveling to City Hall for their official reception. However, the
Black Hand, a Serbian terrorist group, planned to assassinate Franz. The 7 group members were

His 103 This is my interview with Dr. Alfred Meckel and his World War II experience. He was
born in 1924 when Germany was still in hard times due to the harsh sanctions from the rest of the
world after World War 1. As a young boy at the age of 9 Hitler came to power. At such a young age
he thought that Hitler would be the man who could lead Germanyout of its tough economic
hardships and bring them up to the rest of the world s standards. It was not until several years into
the war that he was more critical and found out that the regime was brutal and faced many problems
with no human rights and oppression against others with different political and religious views.

training in France. It was pretty rough by his accounts. Food was very scarce only black coffee
and a chunk of bread with a sausage link was given out in the morning and that was all the
rations for the day so you had to make the most of it. His basic training was somewhat special,
based on the fact that his unit was in quarantine for 3 weeks due to chicken pox running amongst
the training facilities. He was put on a train again and shipped off after the graduation of basic
training. After another two days by train he arrived in Poland to his pilot school. Since he was
just a recruit his job was just to stand guard duty in the airfield for the first 6 months and set off
the alarms at the sound of incoming allied aircraft. He claims he mostly just sat around and ate
about two pounds of grapes a day since his post was surrounded by grape fields.
After very tough physical and mental testing he was accepted into the pilot school. This he said

4. Sandy Hook Shooting Thesis
On a tragic December day many families saw their children for the last time. They would soon
find out that their children s school had been the site of a school shooting. Adam Lanza killed
many innocent lives and society could possibly benefit from these harsh actions. What would you
do if you never saw your familyagain? All the families of the victims are still mourning after almost
2 years. Although the Sandy Hook shooting was a tragic day in history, society can benefit from this.
Sandy Hook was a chaotic town on December 14, 2012 where gunman, Adam Lanza, shot and
killed twenty children and six staff members. Many family members of the victims are still
mourning the loss of their children and loved ones. Over 500 lives were affected after this tragedy
(Gay). The author gives an interview of the superintendent of the school in which he shows what
he did after he heard the news of the shooting. I was in the district office and my secretary told me

5. Rorty Vs Kant
Some philosophers, specifically pragmatists such as Rorty, disagree with Kantian ways of thinking
about the world. Unlike Kant, Rorty does not believe in the idea of the pure versus the empirical.
Nor does he believe in any dualism at all. Instead, he suggests the world cannot be divided and that
pragmatism is: an attempt to break down the distinction between the intrinsic and extrinsic features
of things. By thinking of everything as relational through and through, pragmatists attempt to get
rid of the contrast between reality and appearance (Rorty 72).
The intrinsic and extrinsic features are a reference to Kant s idea of the material and the abstract
worlds. There is not a line between reality and what appears to be reality, because they are the
same. In other words, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Instead, it is created by one s observation and participation in the world. Darwin s theory of
evolution influenced Rorty s thoughts on the amount of certainty and uncertainty in existence,
specifically relating to Kant s ideas about dualism. As previously mentioned, Kant s abstract world
is filled with certainty and continues to be unchanging. In contrast, Rorty believes that Darwin s
idea of evolution can be applied to not only biological evolution, but also to the evolution of ideas
(Rorty 75). Thus, Rorty questions the amount of certainty one can truly experience. For example,
Rorty writes about how everything in human existence has gradually increas[ed in] complexity,
such as human language and biological features. In other words everything in the world is forever
evolving, and if this is true, there can be no real certainty in the world. In terms of morality, Rorty
disagrees with the Kantian belief of universally unchanging morals. For Rorty, morals do not exist
in a separate realm, and thus cannot derive from abstract reason. Rorty also states that, Once you
drop the distinction between reason and passion, you

The Effectiveness of the Law in Achieving Justice for Indigenous People
In relation to Australia, the term Indigenous peoples refers to two distinct cultures of people who
inhabited the land prior to European settlement The Aboriginals and the Torres Strait Islanders. This
population declined dramatically over the 19th and early 20th century due to the introduction of
new diseases from European settlement, Government policies of dispersal and dispossession, the
era of protection, assimilation and integration causing a cultural disruption and disintegration of the
Indigenous peoples. In the 20th century the recognition and protection of Indigenous peoples land

They extracted only what was necessary and provided the land with enough time to regenerate. The
Indigenous Australians worked to maintain the fragility of the environment, following the
traditional belief that they were the guardians of the land who were to maintain and preserve it for
future generations.
Aboriginals also had their own system of law based on customs and beliefs, which worked like any
other in resolving disputes, acknowledging family and other relationships and protecting traditions
and beliefs. However, their laws were not documented in writing but rather passed down orally
from elders to children, as well as communicated through art.
Upon settling, the Europeans failed to recognise the Indigenous system of law, as well as the deep
attachment that the Aboriginal people had to the land and the traditional methods of maintaining it
which had been perfected over thousands of years such as fire stick farming. Consequently, the
indigenous Australians were considered a primitive race, with no obvious system of local law, and
Australia was deemed uninhabited land under the doctrine of Terra Nullius thereby, allowing
Britain to claim sovereignty over it

7. Baseball And The American Civil War Essay
Baseball, a game played between two teams of nine on a field with a diamond shaped series of
four bases. A prestige and unique game that is played all over the world but most beloved in the
United States, hence, why people refer to it as the national pastime due to its tradition and
popularity. Baseball consists of many complex rules and an extended history. In order for one to
fall in love with the game such as America has, one must understand the rules and history of
baseball. Baseball originates back to 1800s, from a man named Abner Doubleday, who was a
Union Officer during the American Civil War. Some say he invented the game in Cooperstown,
New York, in 1839. There s limited amount of information and facts on Doubleday being the
original creator of the game. A more accurate response to the question of how baseball originates
would be that many scholars believe that baseball was invented way before we can tell. In
ancient cultures, such as those of the Persians and Egyptians, there is evidence of games being
played with balls and sticks. Games similar to baseball continued to be played by civilizations
throughout history but it was not until the early 1600s that Europeans first brought games
involving a ball and a stick to the Americas. There were a number of various games played with a
ball and a stick but the one that most resembled baseball was an English game called Rounders.
The rules of Rounders are a lot simpler than the ones of modern day baseball but it was from

In the English language formal language has always been more commonly used when writing. The
internet and social media have led to an increase in the ways we utilize the English language daily.
Informal language was previously used round those people knew well. But on social media,
informal language in written work can reach a much larger audience. English language pundits
believe that the use of informal language will be integrated into formal styles of writingover the
next 50 years. Informal language will be introduced into formal writing due to younger generations
being increasingly exposed to informal language when reading, and formal writing adapting to
reflect our society which communicates informally. Children are now growing up in a society
where informal language is becoming more commonplace. Classrooms around the world have
adopted technology to enhance student s learning, especially in primary level schools. In Dwyer,
Ringstaff and Sandholtz s 1991 article, researchers discussed how:
It appeared chat children interacted with each other more frequently while working at computers.
And the interactions were different the students spontaneously helped each other. They were
curious about what others were doing. They were excited about their own activities, and they were
intently engaged. (1)
This surge in technology has resulted in children communicating online with multiple forms of
media such as static and animated images (GIFs). Because these children are now

11. Theme Of Alienation In Frankenstein
People often find something wrong with things they do not view as normal, many times, these
different aspects of the world draw ire or even hatred of those around them. Similarly, it is common
that individuals within society will demean those who look, act, or sound differently. This problem
spans cultures and generations, and, as with most problems, there are noble men and women who
fight for the outside, the alienated, in different ways. One such method is through literature. In
Mary Shelley s novel Frankenstein, the monster only wants to be accepted by the humanworld, but
man constantly rejects him. It shows how people judge based on appearance and choose to
alienate those who fail to conform to their expectations. Throughout the story, the monster
encounters different people who all reject him because of how he appears. Victor spends two
years attempting to create life, yet when he does, he immediately hates his creation: now that I
had finished, but the beauty of the dream vanished, and breathless horror and disgust filled my
heart (42). It is shocking how quick Victor is to judge his own work. As soon as he comes to life
and Victor sees this monstrosity that he has created, he deems him hideous and feels his past two
years were a waste of time. This shows how superficial Victor is. He spends years of work
creating life, but decides that the monstrosity he creates is ugly and just leaves. He abandons this
monster when he is in his infancy. What Victor does is

12. Character Analysis Of Abner And Sarty Snopes In Barn Burning
Character Analysis of Abner and Sarty Snopes in Barn Burning The short story Barn Burning by
William Faulkner takes place sometime around World War II. It is focused on the Snopes
family, in particular, Abner Snopes, the father. The story starts off in a courtroom of a small
town in which Abner Snopes was being prosecuted for Arson. Abner is described as a terrible
man by his own family. His children and wife witness their father s actions and acts of abuse.
After the trial ends and the Snopes family get out of town to the next house to work at. Sadly, the
cycle continues, and Abner continues to commit arson. Throughout the story, Abner proves he
has no care for those around him and often comes off as a rude person that expresses feelings of
discontent with life. When in the court his young son Sarty is called to the stand to testify
against his father. At this point, as he walks up to the stand he begins to ponder to himself, He
aims for me to lie, he thought, again with that frantic grief and despair. And I will have to do it (
Faulkner 3). At this moment it is inferred Abner does not have good morals or intention and he
encourages bad habits including crime into his family. Although Sarty did not testify in the court
and his father was not proven guilty they still left town to get away from all the townspeople
calling Abner a Barn Burner . Abner is then proven to be aggressive when he strikes two mules in
a rather savage manner with excessive force. It is included

13. Kurt Vonnegut Use Of Black Humor In Billy Pilgrim s
Throughout history, the combination of war and literature has had a great effect on many people
and has inspired them to bring about social reform. Authors, like Kurt Vonnegut, perform this
task effectively, for they express what they feel is important and what needs to be altered in
people s lives. Vonnegut is known for his black humor and satirical writings, and he, like many
others, was inspired by war and created alternate, fantastical worlds to bring attention to humanity
s views on certain issues. He was able to use his observations and experiences to portray his views
that would promote his audience then and now to contemplate their beliefs and what was right and

Throughout the book, Vonnegut switches from his own, first person narration to Billy Pilgrim s
third person narration which creates a schizophrenic manner (Vonnegut Title Page) in which the
book is told; this gives the reader a sense of the mental burden war is on those who experience it.
Furthermore, Vonnegut really pushes the probing of humanity s approval of war and its terrible
consequences through the views of the Tralfamadorians about the fluidity of time and
predestination which impacts the structure of his plot. Billy Pilgrim s character is a perfect
example of how Vonnegut is pushing the questioning of society s acceptance of war and its
unfortunate effects though his ability to take a negative and horrific event and have it propel him
into a positive past or present event right away. In like manner, the variance between Billy Pilgrim
s setting in his calm, New York home and his stressful time in Germany during World War II draws
attention to Slaughterhouse Five s message about questioning war and its

For I Know the Plans
Failure is perhaps one of the most influential things in people s lives because it can alter the course
of our actions, by teaching us persistence or leading us the opposite way. Through his book, Dr.
Cleamon Moorer guides the readers through an intimate journey about his progression from failure
to promise. In the small town of Detroit, Moorer was raised by Christian parents, who taught him
love, obedience, and enforced discipline, but most importantly, they nurtured his faith in Jesus
Christ. Cleamon Moorer flourished in academics during both elementary and middle school,
however, his mischievousness throughout those years earned him many disciplinary sessions. In
high school, misbehavior became history, yet, his GPA suffered in the low C s. But with his father
s tough discipline and Moore s own effort and faith in God, he later received candidacy for the
National Honor s Society. As his college experience began, Cleamon Moore was honored to attend
GMI and work along many of his classmates at GM, but when the courses became more difficult
after each semester, his grades fell below the required minimum, hence, he became a flunk out .
Yet, he did not abandon his education; he never gave in to failure, in fact, he leaned from it. Then,
with years of tenacity, patience, and faith, he ultimately became a professor at the same university at
which he had failed.

16. The Negative Aspects Of Social And Gender Inequality In...
Between 10,000 and 1,000 BCE, replacement and transition from hunter gathering, a nomadic
lifestyle to agriculture, a sedentary society took effect. Our antecedents made an pessimistic
decision on shifting to agriculture. Socially, change was seen through social and gender inequality
which led to problematic societies. Poor diets and the uprise of diseases contributed to the negative
aspects of agriculture.
Transition can be analyzed through specific events in history to manifest how agriculture was an
impoverished lifestyle due to social and gender inequality. The creation of social class was not the
best decision that helped rise and organize civilization like progressivists want us to believe.
Agriculture promoted social inequality by ranking citizens or residents of the area based on
their living conditions and their financial or economic situation.Through social classes, everyone
was treated and approached differently. In the early river valley civilizations between 1792 1750
BCE, a Babylonian King named Hammurabi created a code of laws called The Hammurabi
Code. This written code of law gave different punishments to every social class. For instance, if an
individual from a higher class has put out an individual from the lower class eye, the individual
from the higher class shall pay half its value ( law #199). Furthermore, as social classes started
developing gender inequality arose. During the fifth century BC, Ancient Athens created a new

The first papillary type is the most common characterized by overlapping nuclei or ground glass

The third type is follicular variant of papillary carcinoma. Metastasis is very rare in case of
malignant struma ovarii (5%) which follows the pattern of ovarian tumor. It can metastasize to
pelvic, para aortic lymph nodes, direct spread to omentum and peritoneal cavity and
hematologic spread to lung, bone, liver and brain (11, 12). There are a lot of difficulties in the
clinical diagnosis of struma ovarii due to the absence of specific diagnostic criteria. The imaging
studies used in diagnosing struma ovarii are ultrasonogram, CT and MRI. The findings on
imaging studies are also nonspecific. Triple contrast CT scan of the abdomen and pelvis should

adjacent structures (e.g., bowel). Typically, struma ovarii appear as a multicystic mass with no or

Browning exposes the Duke as pompous and controlling, Arnold portrays his speaker as

multiple characters, although only one character speaks. Therefore, they use diction to tell a story

to purchase a soda however the owner charges him 85 cents leaving him short of the 50 cents he
needs for the pay phone. Once again William conforms acknowledging the goal of getting the 50
cents for the phone call and accepts the means when the owner forces him to buy an item from
the store. Detective Prendergast is possibly the ultimate example of conformity in the movie.
His goal is just really to be the good guy in his marriage and at his job. As a result he is giving up
his job, for his wife, so they can move to Arizona and when people at work are treating him like
garbage he never engages in confrontation. Even when he thinks he knows who is behind the
crime spree in the city he attempts to inform the correct people because he works robbery cases
which is a different division. Detective Prendergast is a conformist through most of the movie
constantly doing the right thing and following the rules. Beth, William s ex wife, also follows
conformity. After the two were divorced Adele received a restraining order against her husband in
fear that he would hurt her. The premise of Falling Down is based on the fact that William is
walking through Los Angeles trying to see his wife and daughter.

23. James Parkinson And Geisenheimer s Essay
Did you know that 60,000 people are diagnosed with Parkinson s and 700,000 people suffer from
Alzheimer s each year? Alzheimer s and Parkinson s date back to the 1700 s and 1800 s to when
they were discovered. These illnesses are just as terrifying to the families as it is to the patient.
Because of the scare in the diseases, these families wanted answers. The patients were sent to James
Parkinson and Alois Alzheimerwhich were the doctors who diagnosed these illnesses. Alois
Alzheimer was born on June 14, 1864 in a small Bavarian town in Marktbreit Germany (Alois,
A1). He was born into a catholic family and had an early interest in science. His father was a
royal notary in the kingdom of Bavaria, and because of his first wife s death during child birth,
he remarried and had 6 more children wife his deceased wife s sister, in which Alois was the first
born of his second marriage. As a young boy, Alois had grew up being taught that the strong

24. Summary Of Destiny Of The Republic
Destiny of the Republic: A Tale of Medicine, Madness, and Murder of a President by Candice
Millard is a non fiction book that explains the assassination of the 20th president of the United
States, James Garfield. President Garfield was the second president to be murdered while
serving a term in office. This book is exceptional because of the historical context it makes you
feel as if Charles Guiteau is standing right in front of you with a gun pointed at the president.
Personally, I never knew much about President Garfield, until I read Destiny of the Republic.
The thing about this book is that Mr. Garfield is a person who I have come to love. I admire his
courage and honesty. President Garfield grew up without much money but somehow managed to
make it work; he did everything he could in order to get a good education. President Garfield s
honesty was prevalent in almost every part of the book. There wasn t really any moment when Mr.
Garfield wasn t honest. It was extraordinary how the author was able to intertwine multiple different
stories into one book. She included President Garfield s assassination, Roscoe Conkling exploiting
the spoils system in American government, Joseph Lister s journey with attempting a sterile
environment while operating, and Alexander Graham Bell making a metal detector to try and find
the bullet stuck inside the president.

25. The Reign Of Queen Elizabeth I And The Elizabethan Era
The Elizabethan Era also known as the golden age in English history is associated with the reign of
Queen Elizabeth I and the Elizabethan Theater. Although life was not easy during the Elizabethan
era it was one of the most progressive times in history and marked the beginning of the Elizabethan
theatre which still to this day influences theatre and the way theatre is presented .
The Elizabethan Era began in 1588 and ended in 1603 during Queen Elizabeth I reign England s
capital and largest city, London grew to about two hundred thousand people. London s population
was divided into three main sections a small but powerful population of wealthy nobles, a

upper class in today s society. Elizabethan Women were obedient to men and dependent on their
male relatives to support them and since there were no school for women they were tutored at
home and weren t allowed to enter university. Women also couldn t be heirs to their fathers titles,
vote , join the military ,or become doctors and lawyers .Along with all this woman had to
preserve there virginity until marriage or they would be looked down upon or belittled however if
they were raped they were punished instead of the rapist because during this time men could do
whatever they desired to do in life.
The Elizabethan Era is known for the intricate outfits that men and women wore to court and elite
social functions. The wealthy wore furs and jewels, and the cloth of their garments featured
extravagant embroidery. The poor and even the middle classes dressed less extravagant and instead
more simply. Elizabethan theatres such as the globe theatre were popular amongst the rich and the

26. Essay about Denali National Park
National Parks have awed tourists and even locals for years. They provide an escape from the
ordinary and relief from the everyday stress of society. National Parks provide insight into a
simpler time where our ancestors were surrounded by the beauty of nature instead of the concrete
jungles of modern day metropolitan areas. Few of these wonderful parks provide the same
seclusion as Denali National Park in Alaska. It s sights and sounds have fascinated many and will
continue to provide a great escape from everyday life. The original Mount McKinleyNational Park

One of the most constant engagement ring trends of the moment is the Asscher cut engagement
ring. In fact, almost 1 bride in 3 in the United States is opting for a square diamond featuring the
Asscher cut. These diamonds offer a timeless vintage feel without looking old fashioned. The
square cut adds symmetry to a setting and the diamond can be set alone or surrounded with smaller
diamonds for extra sparkle and bling.
The Asscher cut is also sometimes known as a modified cushion cut, or a square emerald cut. The
distinctive feature of this sophisticated cut is the square shape with corners cut deeply to look like
an octagon. The Asscher cut has been patented by the Asscher family, and every genuine Asscher

28. The Issue Of Illegal Immigration Essay
Securing Our Borders
Illegal immigration is an issue that plagues the border states and it must be controlled.
What should be done with illegal immigrants has been a hotly contested issue in the news and also
during the current election process. In Obama s Numbers April 2016 Update , Brooks Jackson
states that in 2014, 11.3 million illegal immigrants came into the US. The Democrats and
Republicans debate on whether amnesty or mass deportation is the better alternative on what to do
with these illegal immigrants. I personally believe that mass deportation is a more effective means
of dealing with illegal immigration due to it being more cost effective than amnesty, removing
potential criminals with ties to the cartels, and is unfair to people that have or wish to come into
our country legally. The costs of amnesty is far too high to be a real solution to the illegal
immigration issue. The Immigration Bill s $6.3 Trillion Price Tag , Robert Farley states that the
cost of amnesty ranges from $6.3 to $5.3 trillion over the next 50 years. That s about $126 billion
to $106 billion per year. In Trumps Deportation Plan Prohibitively Expensive , Dolla Estevez
states that Trump s deportation plan would require the federal government to spend roughly $400
billion to $600 billion to deport 11.3 million undocumented immigrants and prevent future
unlawful entry into the U.S. over a 20 year time period, (Estevez). This is a much easier pill to

The majority of people in the United States would not be able to handle the stress, anxiety,
uncertainty, and other mental illnesses that go along with serving in the United States military.
According to Joel L. Young M.D. a medical doctor and a writer for Psychology Today mental health
issues are prominent in people who serve in the military. He writes, Almost a quarter of military
members have symptoms of at least one mental health condition, with more than 10% qualifying for
a diagnosis of two or more mental illnesses (Young 1). In other words, many people who serve in
the military have mental health problems. Consequently, if everyone in the U.S. was forced to
serve, these numbers would be substantially higher. Young also shows the reader how easily anxiety
is created in the military. He writes, Service members may not know what the future holds. They
wait to learn about life threatening deployments, new job assignments, and other life altering
transitions, impeding their ability to plan for the future and creating anxiety (Young 1). This means
that while soldiers are serving, they are unable to see what will be happening even in the near
future, causing major amounts of stress and anxiety. Although people could argue that if a
mandatory enlistment was instated that the government would make mental health treatment easier
to obtain, but often treatment cannot fully heal a

30. Utilitarianism And Virtue Ethics
Virtue ethicist may be defined as concepts that emphasize the role of character and virtue in moral
theory rather than making difference through action. They emphasis on undertakings that
encourages or makes a person more generous or benevolent. According to Aristotle virtue are of two
kinds; intellectual virtuewhich originate from birth and grows from teaching and through
experience and time. The second one is moral virtue which comes through human habits especially
one that is hard to give up, (Aristotle, 1931). It is important to differentiate this from deontologist
which uphold the the concept of doing unto others what you want others to do unto you.
Utilitarianism in contrast with virtue ethicist emphases on actions that give the maximum benefit to
a large number of people as possible.

The aim of this assignment is to reflect on the management of a patient with multiple organ

creating a social construction by which many of us base our personal beliefs and judgments on.
This power allows televisionshows take the opportunity to address problems in a manner that many

and it was perfectly acceptable, unless they were selling your stolen property. This portrayal of
Chris s neighborhood further reinforces the class differences between the white and black
neighborhoods in New York and by extension throughout the United States. Chris returns to
school and so returns the racial stereotypes that affect his day to day life. As the rumor of him
beating up the bully continues to spread, Chris is put into a position where he cannot defend
himself from any attackers or he would be labeled as the aggressor and punished by detention.
Shortly after Chris begins his school day, he is called into the principal s office to be lectured by

and that Chris was born a crack baby. Chris, not having any of these issues, is shocked and

17 Must Haves For Your Bug Out Bag
Bug out bags are a hot topic these day. Even the government seems to have a vital interest. The
increase in awareness is a positive thing because bug out gear can actually save your life. Nobody
knows when they might need to evacuate their home over some type of emergency. With a but out
bag ready to go, you are ready to leave in a flash, knowing that you have all you need in order to
survive.
This doesn t mean that your bug out bag will have everything you want. It s not like packing a
suitcase to go on vacation. It s a preparation of survival designed to help you get through an
emergency situation. When you need to bug out, you want to know that everything in the bag is
geared toward your survival.
One of the biggest problems is trying to fit everything into your bug out bag. If you confuse
what you want with what you need it could take up a lot of unnecessary space. You have to know
the difference between things you ll need as opposed to things you d like to take . Of course, if
there is any room left after all the needs are packed, then by all means, grab something you want.
The 17 Must Haves
(1). Food. Bug out gear is designed to have survival items to last you for no less than 3 days. That
means enough food for 72 hours. It should contain dried foods and not canned foods, they are
lighter and much easier to carry.
(2). Water. Nobody can survive without water for very long. You could never carry enough.

The provision expresses the rights of the sound maker, i.e. what is not required is implied. The
implication is that anybody apart from the marker is prevented by the Act to make reproductions
without authority (Craig, 2011, p. 105). On 23rd of June 2015, the rules of regulating sound
recordings were modified. The modifications were to the effect that unpublished sound recordings
would last for fifty years after fixation. If the sound recordings are published before the copyright

After this night in October 1974, when Edward Garner was shot and killed by Officer Hymon
while he was fleeing the scene of the crime, Officer Hymon felt that he was justified in shooting
him to prevent his escape even though he knew that Edward Garner was unarmed(Tennessee v.
Garner). Officer Elton Hymon believed that his action was an acceptable because of a Tennessee
statute that states that, if, after a police officer has given notice of an intent to arrest a criminal
suspect, the suspect flees, or forcibly resists, the officer may use all the necessary means to effect
the arrest (Tennessee v. Garner). I believe that Officer Elton Hymon did not have to kill Edward

42. Holden s Teenage Life
Teenage life is known to be full of anxiety and problems, ripe with angst and development. All
adults have gone through it, but it is still a often overlooked aspect of life. J. D. Salinger s novel
The Catcher in the Rye details a taste of troubled teenage life. This novel is a noteworthy classic,
lending towards the author s refusal to have the book digitalized in any way. The book itself is
about the 16 year old Holden Caulfield, a teen in the big city of New York, with a lot of
problems. This novel goes a long way to showing how difficult it can be to grow up, and how it
is critical to have good relationships with others to make it through. One of the primary effects
on Holden s teenage life is the loss of his brother, which is not mentioned until later in the story,
where Holden mentions how descriptive his brother Allie s mitt is, stating he had poems written
all over the fingers and the pocket and everywhere He wrote them on it so that he d have
something to read when he was in the field and nobody was up at bat. He s dead now. This quote
is especially interesting because it is stated in a present tense style, while most of the story is in
past tense. This goes to show how much of an impact this particular event has had on Holden s
teenage life, clearly having a... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He has been kicked out of several institutions and fails almost all of his classes at each one.
Beyond this he has a deep seated belief that everyone at all the schools he s gone to, are all
phonies. He believes they are all fake, and this belief makes it extremely difficult for Holden to
make connections with others. Throughout the story we see Holden desperately attempting to
make connections with others. We can see that when he fails to make any real connections, that he
actually goes through a large amount of depression. We get the idea that Holden s emotional beliefs
and pains only further his

43. Summary Of Graham Greene s The Power And The Glory
In Graham Greene s novel, The Power and the Glory, there is an unnamed character called, the
Whisky Priest. The priest is an alcoholic, proud, envious, dishonest, cowardly, weak of faith, and
judgmental priest; however, he takes on the role of being a priest as a way of self denial because he
knows he is not worthy and he would rather acceptthe fact of being lost in the crowd of forgettable
slums. In the novel, the priest tries to run away from situations in several occurrences, but in the
end, realizes that he, being a priest, is the only hope for the people even though he feels that there
is no hope for him. In the simplest way, the whisky priest is a witnessto the people because he is a
selfish drunkard who is transformed into a martyr, is blinded, but sees light through his
sufferings, and in that light, he finds his vocation as not a higher up ranking, but as a servant of
the people as he lives so that others may live with Christ. Therefore, concludes that the power and
the glory do not belong to him, but rather to Christ. He also realizes the power is not of reigning
over people, but by service to others, and the glory that he receives is not for him, but for God alone.
Throughout the book, the priest is called to serve the church instead of escaping the church. He
feels an obligation to demonstrate this martyrdom by bearing the cross for the people, in
comparison to Simon of Cyrene. However, he is a habitual liar that refuses to think the holy should
suffer. For example, the whisky priest, in the beginning, was blind of who Christ is; moreover, in
comparison to Peter, both deny Christ several times, but eventually come to see that the holy must
suffer because Christ is a suffering Messiah, not one who used power to reign, but to endure
suffering in order to defeat death. The whisky priest believes that he is not worthy, which is true,
but by accepting the fact of being a servant to God, even though he was cruel, he denies himself
by saving others and following God s will for him rather than escaping the scene and following his
own. In this way, the whisky priest is following the way of the cross.
The sense of the suffering Messiah is not presented to him clearly until he witnesses Christ in

44. Motown Research Paper
arly 1960 s a man named Barry Gordy founded a record company named
Tamla Records which soon became what is known today as Motown records. The
Motown record company is one of the most popular record companies known to date, with several
artist and musical sensations under its belt. During the time that Motown was on the rise there were
a lot of social and economical issues in America, the civil rights movement for example, played a
huge role is some of the music that the artist signed to Motown sang about. Marvin Gaye s Let s
Stay Together , Stevie Wonders
Love In Need Of Love were great songs of telling what was going on in the daily life of
African Americans. The Motown record company had a plethora of guy and girl groups signed to

Gordy signed the group in the early 60 s and immediately began making hits. One of their biggest
hits Papa was a Rolling Stone was a released in 1972 and was one of the longest songs of its time.
The song was written by Motown s very own Barrette Strong and Norman Whitfield. The actual
song had two parts and it is eleven minutes and forty six seconds long. It is a song that tells a story
about a son having a conversation with his mother about his father. Throughout the song each singer
speaks about some of the rumors that were being said around town about the father. In the
beginning of the first verse the writers set the tone for the song, speaking of the death of the father
and describing the lack of relationship with son. At the end of every verse they ask they plead with
the mother to tell them the truth. In the chorus the mother answers with a unique metaphor, Papa
was a rolling stone.. . The mother continues on saying wherever he laid his hat was his home
referring that the their father was always on the move from person to person, place to place, with
no cares or responsibilities.
In the second verse the song writer gives more detail about why the mother

45. Reflection Paper On How I Changed As A Speaker
I have changed as a speaker in various ways over this past semester. I have gotten more
comfortable with myself as a speaker. I learned instead of being scared and nervous to talk in
front of my classmates, to just put my self in a place where I feel comfortable. For example when I
am speaking in front of the class, I imagine myself standing in my living room just talking to my
dad. Another thing that helped me get through my speechis choosing a topic that I know a lot
about, this helped my feel more comfortable about what I was talking about. This helps build
credibility. I realized that everyone is going to have a strong opinion about certain topics but if
you can provide valid information and have good arguing point in a speech then it could really
change peoples minds about a certain topic. After I completed my first speech I really understood
what it took to be a good speaker, especially after getting feed back from my classmates. This
helped improve confidence and all other aspects of me speaking in front of a crowd. I felt as if the
outlines helped me a lot. They gave me a basic idea of what I needto do and say. They also helped
me organize my thoughts and help mestay on track. The quizzes also helped me understand the
topics and why we needed to set up the outline the way we do. It also helped me understand what
was most important in the speech and what I should focus most on. When you gave sample
speeches this was my most helpful tool. You showed us exactly

46. Why Did Baroque Concerto Changed During The Baroque Era
The baroque concerto has proved to be a very formative aspect of classical music. Without the
emergence of the concerto, music would not be as it is today. Concerto composers changed the way
music was perceived and defied musical norms, introducing new and exciting patterns, sequences,
and combinations.
Concertos have changed drastically throughout the years. What were deemed concertos during the
baroque era, will not always qualify as a concerto by modern definition. A concerto was originally
defined as multiple instruments or voices performing together, typically a piece combining
voices and instruments often in larger numbers. The definition has since changed as the concerto
has become a more distinguishable work. Today, concertos involve a soloist pitted against an
orchestra or ensemble contrasting in movement. Contrast and unity were, ironically, both basic
elements of the baroque concerto. The principal of the concerto was to unite two differing
bodies of sound. The term Concerto is a derivative of the latin term concertare which translates
as to contend with. The first composer to write a work designated as a concerto was Giuseppe
Torelli.. Before they were appointed the term concerto, his early works were known as sonatas
and sinfonias. From Torelli s works of early concerto, inspiration arose. Composers such as J.S.
Bach, Corelli, and Vivaldi adopted this new style and created their own masterpieces out of it.
There are two types of concerti that were popular during the baroque Era: Solo Concerto and
Concerto Grosso. The solo concerto includes one solo instrument set against an orchestra. An
excellent example of the solo concerto is Vivaldi s Four Seasons, a set of Violin Concertos.
Sonority and virtuoso instrumentalists experimented a lot with the solo concerto. The violin was
featured in the solo concerto more than any other instrument. A violin soloist would play
something as the orchestra played against it. The common movement for the solo concerto is
allegro, adagio, allegro (fast, then slow, then fast again.) Concerto grosso involves a small group
of soloists and an orchestra. J.S. Bach s six Brandenburg concertos fall under this category. This
type of concerto is based on opposition

47. Neil Postman s Assertions And Today s Society
Christina Contreras
Mr. Limon
ERWC
01 March 2017 Neil Postman s Assertions and Today s Society: Huxley s Brave New World
could be considered almost prophetic by many people today. It is alarmingly obvious how modern
society is eerily similar to Huxley s novel with the constant demand for instant gratification
encouraging laziness, greed, and entitlement. Neil Postman, a contemporary social critic, seems to
have noticed this similarity, as he has made bold, valid statements regarding the text and its
relevance to our world today. This response is strongly in support of those statements and will
prove both their accuracy in clarifying Huxley s intentions and how Postman s assertions compare
to society today. One of Postman s assertions ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It comes as a justified fear considering everyone is coaxed into using social media by companies
making it overall more convenient to do everything online. Not only does this lead to laziness
which is terrible for physical health but selfishness in that what is most important is how the
consumer fairs, not others. In the novel, Linda sleeps with the husbands of other women in an
effort to achieve sexual stimulation. As a result, women [began] hitting her with a whip...and each
time Linda screamed (134). Chasing what she loved led to a negative outcome. Kyle Smith, author
of the article Brave New World (is Here!) , explains how a world prioritizing nothing but pleasure
is nowhere near the heaven people imagine. He explains how ...a happyland free of intimate
bonds and arduous challenges is actually a dystopia . Basically, and more familiarly, too much of
anything is not a good thing, and that includes pleasure. Lastly, at one point John tries to defend
morals like being chaste. He is rebuked by Mustapha Mond, who says, ...[chastity, passion, and
neurasthenia]...lead to instability...and [thus] the end of civilization (239). As he begins whipping
himself in an act of self discipline, he is encouraged to continue by a crowd of desensitized people
saying, Do the whipping stunt. Let s see [it] (257). These quotes support

48. Sarah Mclachlan Song In The Arms Of An Angel
Have you ever seen the ASPCA commercials where they show pictures of abused and neglected
animals while the Sarah McLachlan song In the Arms of an Angel plays in the background? It is
heart wrenching to watch and I always want to help those poor, defenseless animals. I took this
opportunity to volunteer at the Town and Country Animal Shelter; a non profit, no kill shelter run
entirely by volunteers serving eastern Nebraska and beyond. They are dedicated to providing a
safe and caring living facility for pets in need until a loving home can be found, as well as helpful
information for those wishing to rehome or adopt an animal. I chose this organization because they
are a no kill shelter and they take in animals of all different sorts.... Show more content on

Last year I adopted a rescue dog. She is a Labrador retriever mix that was a day away from being
euthanized at a Texas Animal Shelter that wasn t a no kill shelter. Her and her brothers were
abandoned near birth. A lady, who was active in the rescue community, cut her vacation short
and traveled to Texas to retrieve the litter. She brought them back to Nebraska where I was lucky
enough to bring Daisy into my life. Though Daisy has eaten six memory foam pillows, four
remote controls, the linoleum in the kitchen and parts of the carpet, I wouldn t trade her for
anything. I am honored to be able to provide her with a good home and love. As discussed in the
Civic Engagement video, we don t just get a free ride in our society and we have a responsibility
to give back in some way (2015). Caring for a pet not only promotes a better world to live in but
it teaches responsibility and compassion which can carry over into other aspects of one s life.
Responsibility will assist in citizens being accountable for their actions, give a sense of duty,
and help one remain just when being placed in a position of power. Compassion will allow for
our citizens to be concerned with sufferings or misfortunes of others. As you can see, the simple
caring for a pet has the ability to promote a moral society as well as make the world a better place
to live in. I took this opportunity to add an

49. Los Angeles Lakers Business Analysis
Alternatives
The organisational structure of the Los Angeles Lakers is a product based, divisionalised structure.
It is currently divided into four departments as illustrated in Figure 1 (see Appendix). Each
department affects the organisation mutually, as a whole and interchangeably (Lussier Kimball,
2004). This organisational structure has proven to be very successful for the Lakers in the past,
grouping its resources respectively in order to ensure accountability at every level.
Alternative1 = Functional Structure (Change)
George, Jones Sharbrough (1996) suggested using a functional structure when organisations can
departmentalise group jobs based on similar functions. These departments can include a wide range
of groups such as, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This alternative could help larger organisations, in the case of the L.A. Lakers, become more
practical and logical in their approach (Browning, 1991; Morgan, 2014). Research by Ghiselli
Johnson (1970) and Hinings (1992) suggests that a flatter organisation provides more satisfaction
amongst employees, and a greater sense of commitment and fulfillment.
The main advantage associated with this alternative is that it creates better communication between
employees (Browning, 1991; Suttle, 2016). Furthermore, the morale of the workforce will be
increased, notably amongst the high achievers of the organisation (Hinings 1992; Suttle, 2016). An
organisation that adopts a flatter structure is also considerably less bureaucratic, thus resulting in a
quicker decision making process (Suttle, 2016). Aside from quicker decisions, the ConnectUs
(2015) website review also highlights that fewer organisational layers result in less wages to pay,
therefore salary related expense are reduced and enable the organisation to save
