Response To Public Art
Page 1 description response to public art Art is undefined. There are no rules and no boundaries to art.
Art is whatever you want it to be. The beauty is in the eye of the beholder. It seems like today, art is
everywhere. Someone is trying to express how they feel or trying to persuade people to their cause or
efforts. Art to us is the Mona Lisa by Da Vinci, or Starry Night by Van Gogh; but it also can be spray
paint on the side of a train, or a drawing on the bathroom stall. However you feel, you can express
yourself through art. It is a way to relay your feelings to the general public. It seems that the best art,
is the art that leaves you guessing the meaning. Wondering what the artist was feeling when making

Michael Gutlove is the artist of this piece, it has a value of $109,000. Bright pieces of wavy glass
dangle from the ceiling in no particular order. As students walk by underneath, the glass turns and
waves with the shift in air, giving the art movement and life. The location of this piece is not as
important as the fisherman. It does need a ceiling, preferably one with a lot of traffic and natural light.
The piece does have LED lights on some of the glass pieces and they change color. To me, this piece
looks like a school of fish, swimming around in the ocean. That is why I related it to the fisherman in

Technology And Science More Than World War II
No other war in history has had such a profound impact on technology and science more than World
War II did. There were numerous new scientific principles and inventions that emerged during the war.
This includes thing such as the automatic aircraft (which is known today as a cruise missile) and also
the ballistic missile (flew into space before falling down on its target). These missiles were later
developed and helped launch the first American astronauts to space. Other technological
advancements include huge radar improvements, mass production of penicillin, new products, and
nutrition advancements of foods. The first practical radar was created in 1935, though it wasn t until
the war that it saw vast improvements. Radars made the concept of a surprise attack nearly obsolete.
This technology allowed nations to track incoming attacks from air, helped guide their bombers to
targets, and directed anti aircraft guns to aircraft high in the air. By constructing complicated
electronics that had to be small and rugged, radar engineers helped set the path for modern technology,
such as tv. It also helped create radar navigation, and meteorologists used the technology to help track
storms, which helped plan strategic military attacks. During World War II American companies had to
convert to create military goods (consumer good manufacture creating surgical instruments, car
factories creating tanks and airplanes). Do to this conversions of companies, many Americans faced

Frostburg State University-Personal Narrative Analysis
A lot of people have life lessons or events that have changed them somehow. I have a very petrifying
experience that changed how I see things. I was about ten years old when this happens my family and
I were going on a trip to Frostburg State University. It was a Friday after school, I had to pack the
night before, so we could leave right after I got off the bus, I remember not being very excited about
going nor were my brothers. My parents were very excited though because it was the college that they
both graduated from. I had no desire in going because I was only ten at the time, so I did not need to
be visiting colleges, or going to more school on my weekend. We were just doing this for my parents,
this obviously meant a lot to them. I don t have much recognition of the ride up because I slept the
majority of the it. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Getting close to the campus, I was very bored(participial) along with my brothers, the whole family
was getting tired. Finally, we arrived at the campus it was dark now, it was nice I just didn t think
much of it. We dove around for a bit and finally we stopped at Gunthers, an old hotel(appositive). It
was a very eerie place, one of the creepiest places I have ever been too, it was like a ghost town. We
got our room key and began walking to our room, it had dead animals, and creepy baby dolls behind
glass displays, flickering lights, also zero other people in there. I did not like the feeling of the place at
all. When we arrived at our room, a blast of frigid air hits me in the face. It had a mysterious smell too
it, I did not like it at all so I went to bed immediately so I could get out of there as soon as possible.
We woke up around eight in the morning. We were headed to a place called Dan s

The Open Door Policy
The Open Door policy is an policy that allows open ports in a county to any other countries that is
under the policy. It protected countries to easy trade with each other and relations between different
countries were formed. The person that made the Open Door policy was U.S. Secretary of State John
Hay and he sent the policy to Great Britain, Germany, France, Italy, Japan, and Russia. This policy
shape how America created foreign policy in East Asia. But not all the countries John Hay sent policy
like this. Germany, France, and Russia were against the policy because they would not have benefited
from it. Great Britain, Japan, and the U.S. supported the policy because them benefited from it. This
policy helped started trade with China.

Social And Social Impact On Social Media
It has been suggested that people use social media sites, consciously or unconsciously, (Haferkamp
Kramer, 2011) as a basis for social comparative functions, such as self evaluation (Festinger, 1954).
Individuals usually compare themselves with others on various characteristics such as popularity,
appearance, and success (Feinstein, Hershenberg, Bhatia, Latack, Meuwly, Davila, 2013). When
information is acquired of others, people will compare themselves to others (Mussweiler, Ruter,
Epstude, 2006). According to Wood (1989), social comparison is not in itself problematic. However,
little research has been found that examines the social comparison behavior on social media (Lee,
2014). Facebook is an important place and tool for social life among college students (Boyd, 2007).
On average, college students have a minimum of 358 friends, with most spending their time reading
the content of other people s pages (Pempek, Yermolayeva, Calvert, 2009). The frequent use among
Facebook users that are college students implies that they are likely to engage in social comparison on
Facebook (Lee, 2014). There have been few studies that have examined a person s psychological
characteristics (e.g. self esteem, depression, and self consciousness) and Facebook use (citations). In a
previous study conducted by Lee (2014) on how college students compare themselves with others on
Facebook, there was a negative relationship between social comparison frequency and self esteem.

James Buchanan Outline
James Buchanan, 15th President of the United States, was born in Cove Gap, Pennsylvania, in 1791.
His father, James Sr., was a prosperous merchant and farmer, and his mother, Elizabeth, intelligent
woman. As a young boy, Buchanan was educated at Stone Academy in his village, and later,
Dickinson College, where he was nearly suspended for unhealthy behavior before finally graduating
in 1809. After graduating from college, Buchanan relocated to Lancaster, Pennsylvania, where he
studied law, and, in 1812, he was admitted to the bar. Shortly thenceforth, he enrolled in the military at
the beginning of the War of 1812 and took part in the defense of Baltimore. In 1814, at age 23,
Buchanan began what would be an extended political career when he was elected as a member of the
Federalist Party to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives. ... Show more content on

Jackson named Buchanan his ambassador to Russia. In 1834 Buchanan came back to the U.S. and
won a seat in Senate as a Democrat, a place he would hold for the following 10 years, until, in 1845,
he resigned to serve as James K. Polk s secretary of state, a foothold he used to further an expansionist
agenda. In 1852, he created an unsuccessful bid for the Democratic presidential nomination, losing to
Franklin Pierce, who, once being elected president, made James Buchanan his minister to England. He
served as president throughout the build up to the warfare, Buchanan s inability to prevent the
southern states push toward secession has led most historians to contemplate his presidency as a
failure. James Buchanan was the sole U.S. president from Pennsylvania, and also the only one to stay
a lifelong single male. He died in 1868 in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. James Buchanan s poor
management of foreign affairs, slavery, and also the civil war led to him being widely known as one of

Client Centered Therapy
Jessica Jeffers
It is inevitable that in psychotherapy there are numerous theories. Theories arise out of scholarly
investigations of ideas on human behavior. Human behavior is an extraordinarily interesting subject
and therefore produces a plethora of ideas from a variety of theorists. These theorists are influenced by
their education, culture, and time period. One of the most influential, empathetically understanding,
theorists is Carl Rogers. His contributions to human behavior have changed many of the theories that
preceded him, and contributed his theory to many theories that followed him.
I want to explore Client/Person Centered Therapy. This is a type of therapy that was pioneered by Carl
Rogers. This therapy is different ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Rogers may not have worked with his clients to produce and obtain goals, but he did have a ultimate
goal in his therapeutic work. According to Rogers, They [clients] are then able to accept themselves as
they are and to commit themselves to becoming more like they can and want to be (as cited in
Truscott, 2010, p. 72). The client is in turn aided by the therapist in becoming as authentic as possible.
Thus this authenticity would provide the client with the ability to be true to themselves and their
feelings. I find this to be useful in allowing the client to process their internal feelings, externally.
According to Truscott (2010), Therapists must be willing and able to listen without prejudice,
judgment, or agenda if the client is to have any chance of feeling truly understood and accepted.
Positive feelings, negative feelings, and silence must be acceptable to the therapist (p. 73). This is
interesting because it requires that the therapists become void of any judgments. To me this seems like
a difficult task to accomplish because of the nature of judgments. Understandably so, the therapist
would automatically make judgments of the client, as a natural inclination even with the best
intentions against judgments.
So, what kind of a therapist must one be to establish a patient centered therapy?

Wernher Von Braun s Accomplishments
Rocket science was a gateway to a whole new way of life, and many scientists contributed to this. The
greatest rocket scientist is the person who was most influential on daily life with their work. Wernher
von Braun was born in Germany in 1912 (NASA). He developed the Saturn V rocket, he developed
multiple rockets used on ballistic missiles, and he worked on the development of guided rockets.
Although Wernher von Braun was involved in forced slave labor used for the production of his V 2
rockets, he was the greatest rocket scientist in European history. Wernher von Braun was involved in
forced slave labor used to produce V 2 rockets for the Nazis. He made multiple visits to factories
using slave labor for the production of his V 2 rockets(NASA). Von Braun was clearly well aware of
the use of slaves. It was not von Braun s idea to use the prisoners as slaves, but he did not make any
effort to oppose the idea (NASA). Von Braun was clearly making ... Show more content on

Guided rockets are usually used on missiles so you can control them remotely for precision long range
missiles. With guidance systems as advanced as the Jupiter missile, they could hit within 150 yards of
the target with a range of 182 miles (Neufeld 250). Von Braun s work was very precise, if anything
was even the slightest bit wrong, the rocket would not work. Von Braun s first attempt at a guided
rocket was his V 2 rocket (Neufeld 201). Although the guidance systems on the V 2 rockets were very
basic, the rocket hit within 20 miles of its target (Neufeld 250), they were still advanced for the time.
Von Braun also used guidance systems on one of his most important rockets, the Saturn V rocket
(Richie). He put a huge amount of work to make sure everything was exactly as it should be with the
Saturn V, and he worked on the guidance systems for it. Von Braun was involved in multiple highly
advanced guidance systems for his rockets, and they were all

The Effects Of Colonialism In Monkey Beach By Eden...
Canada has been well regarded with its attitude towards multiculturalism, establishing an Act that
protects the rights of people who have different beliefs and the encouragement for all cultures to work
together. While being the only country to have a policy such as the Multiculturalism Act, racism has
been a part of Canadian history, including but not limited to the colonialism of Indigenous Peoples and
the internment of Japanese Canadians. The effects of colonialism on indigenous culture and the
treatment of Japanese Canadians are reflected in the novels Monkey Beach by Eden Robinson and
Obasan by Joy Kogawa. The main characters of the novels, Lisamarie in Monkey Beach and Naomi in
Obasan, both come to terms with the effects of growing up in minority communities in British
Columbia, as well as discovering their own identities, by reflecting on their pasts during a time of
family tragedies. Lisamarie struggles with accepting and understanding her spirituality in a family that
mostly ignores and denies their connections to the spirituality of their ancestors, due to the effects of
colonialism and residential schools. Naomi reflects on her family being removed from their homes and
the racism that the Japanese faced after the Pearl Harbour attack. Robinson and Kogawa use their
protagonists to look back to the past and reflect on the events that have shaped their families.

Analysis Of Tinker Vs. Des Moines, And Bethel V. Fraser
The first amendment, which is considered the right to freedom of speech, is a misconception to many.
Not all citizens, but some, think that because of the first amendment; they can say whatever they want.
Although citizens of the United States have the right to freedom of speech, this freedom of speech is
viewed differently by others. Which leads to confusion as to what can be said and what cannot be said.
Both court cases: Tinker v. Des Moines, and Bethel v. Fraser involved the confusion and
misunderstanding of this first amendment. In December, 1969, a group of students in Des Moines held
a meeting in the home of Christopher Eckhardt to plan a public showing of their support for a truce in
the Vietnam War. 1 These students decided to wear black armbands to show their support. These
students included: John F. Tinker, Hope Tinker, Mary Beth Tinker, Paul Tinker, and Christopher
Eckhardt. Whenever the Principal found out about their plan, he stated that any student found wearing
these black armbands would be suspended.2 Despite the Principal s warning, the students still wore
the black armbands.3 On December 16, Christopher Eckhardt and Mary Beth Tinker wore their black
armbands to school and were sent home. The next day, John Tinker wore his armband and was also
sent home. Because of the protest, the students did not return to school until after New Year s Day.
This was the date they planned to end the protest.4 Parents, of the children who were sent home, were
furious.

Gay Media and The Effects it Has on Heterosexuals Attitudes Towards LGBTQ
Twenty years ago, 42 million viewers watched the sitcom Ellen, featuring Ellen DeGeneres, and the
now famous Puppy episode. That night Ellen had admitted to the world that she was gay. The backlash
to her coming out was vicious, boycotts and protests towards the sitcom seemed neverending and
when the ABC network made the decision to renew the show for another season, they went to the
extent of putting a parental advisory warning at the beginning of each episode. Shortly after, it was
cancelled for being criticised as too gay. Fast forward 20 years later, Ellen DeGeneres was given the
Medal of Freedom by former President of the United States, Barack Obama who said, It s easy to

The Nottingham Pulse Rig Towards Determining The Mechanism...
This Chapter discusses the progress made using the Nottingham Pulse Rig towards determining the
mechanism of the Fischer Tropsch reaction. A summary of the three main mechanisms proposed in the
literature was outlined in Chapter 1 but is still the subject of much debate.1 6 Generally the carbide
mechanism is accepted for Fe catalysts,7 but the mechanism over Co catalysts is less clear.1 Ge and
Neurock,8 as well as Ojeda et al.,4 have suggested that the carbide mechanism is the pathway for FT
synthesis on Co catalysts. However, they disagree over the route to CO dissociation; direct
dissociation of the carbonyl bond has been proposed by Ge and Neurock, whilst Ojeda et al. have
concluded that carbonyl dissociation proceeds via an H assisted ... Show more content on

3.1.1 On the Mechanism and Active Site of the FT Process Over Co Catalysts Several studies have
investigated the effect of syngas on the structure of metallic Co catalysts.9 12 For instance, Karaca et
al. investigated the effect of syngas on a CoPt/Al2O3 catalyst using X Ray Diffraction (XRD).9 After
reducing the catalyst in H2 at 623 K, XRD peaks were observed for face centred cubic (fcc) and
hexagonal close packed (hcp) structures of metallic Co. After exposure to 20 bar of syngas at 493 K,
the fcc XRD peaks became narrower over 5 hrs, which was suggested to be due to an increase in the
particle size due to sintering of the Co metal phase. Over the subsequent 5 hrs this peak decreased in
intensity and a new peak assigned to a carbide phase grew in. Therefore, the authors concluded that
deactivation of the catalyst was due initially to sintering and then, over longer periods of time, to
carbidisation. Wilson and de Groot have investigated the surface reorganisation of a model Co catalyst
upon exposure to 4 bar of a H2/CO mixture (2:1 ratio) at 523 K.10 11 The surface was examined ex
situ in an Ultra High Vacuum (UHV) chamber before and after exposure to syngas using a Scanning
Tunnelling Microscope (STM). Before exposure to CO the surface consisted of flat terraces, with a
Co(0001) structure. The terrace surfaces were separated by cliff edges ranging in size from single
atom high steps

Love and Lust in the Lyrics (Shakespeare s Sonnets)
A sonnet is a poem of fourteen lines that rhyme in a particular pattern. William Shakespeare s sonnets
were the only non dramatic poetry that he wrote. Shakespeare used sonnets within some of his plays,
but his sonnets are best known as a series of one hundred and fifty four poems. The series of one
hundred and fifty four poems tell a story about a young aristocrat and a mysterious mistress. Many
people have analyzed and contemplated about the significance of these lovers . After analysis of the
content of both the young man sonnets and the dark lady sonnets , it is clear that the poet,
Shakespeare, has a great love for the young man and only lusts after his mistress.
In order to fully understand the depth of emotion that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
So the lover, the poet, treats the loved object, the young man, as he would himself. The loved object
serves as a substitute for some unattained ideal. In the case of the sonnets, the ideal is love. Being in
love allows the poet to have what he wants but could not acquire before and serves as a means of
satisfying his self love.
Joseph Pequigney, author of Such is My Love: A Study of Shakespeare s Sonnets, agrees with and
elaborates on Freud. He writes, All of these characteristics belong to the poet s love for the friend. It is
a love that pays handsome narcissistic dividends; it is advantageous also for the friend, who is praised
for personal qualities that would likely pass unnoticed were the poet not under the spell of his beauty.
Pequigney goes on to touch on the antithesis of the poet s love for the young man, his lust for his
mistress the dark lady . Because the mistress offers no self seeking advantages, she is disesteemed
with vice but never virtue ascribed to her (Pequigney 157). The poet attacks and questions her
physical attractiveness as the affair goes on and she arouses lust that comes and goes.
Sonnets 127 154 are addressed to the dark lady (hereafter the mistress). Shakespeare s relations to his
mistress vacillate; sometimes sanguine, tender, teasing, or bitterly anger; yet it is a simpler relation
than that

Essay on Rewriting History in Henry IV
Rewriting History in Henry IV
The master of historiography is, perhaps, Shakespeare as evidenced by his History Plays. Whereas
most writers merely borrow from history to fuel their creative fires, Shakespeare goes so far as to
rewrite history. The First Part of Henry the Fourth follows history fairly closely, and Shakespeare
draws this history primarily from Raphael Holinshed s Chronicle of England, Scotland, and Ireland
and from Samuel Daniel s verse epic The Civil Wars (Abrams 823).
The play opens shortly after Henry Bolingbroke has usurped the throne from Richard II, becoming the
fourth King Henry, and changing the royal lineage from the House of Plantagenet to the House of
Lancaster. In the opening ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For the most part, Shakespeare did indeed fabricate Falstaff, Poins, and the whole Tavern Group, yet
historical evidence does support some sort of provincial getaway. McFarlane records that in 1412 the
younger Henry remained dissatisfied [with his father] and shortly afterwards withdrew once more into
the provinces, where he was soon again at his old tricks (110). Shakespeare originally named the
character of Falstaff after the Protestant martyr John Oldcastle. Shakespeare eventually bowed to the
objections of Oldcastle s descendants, renaming the character (Abrams 823).
At the Battle of Shrewsbury, Shakespeare describes how Hal kills Hotspur, eulogizes him (5.4.78
102), and then concedes the victory of the kill to Falstaff (5.4.138 50). History records that Hal
himself suffered an arrow shot to the face (Rowse 44) and that no one knows for certain who killed
Hotspur (Jacob 52 3). History further records that, as for the eulogy, it was the king who shed tears
over Hotspur s slain figure, not the young prince (Rowse 45). Despite Hotspur being three years older
than Hal s father (Hotspur died at age thirty nine) (Rowse 44), Shakespeare paints the portrait of
Hotspur and Hal as contemporaries, following poet Daniel s lead (Drabble 475). Rowse does note,
however, that Shakespeare did capture the essence in Hotspur of something not grown up about this
fighting man, who

Could the day become any worse? One afternoon, my grandmother was looking for houses, I wanted
to go to the mall before 8 because there a huge sale. Suddenly the car started to make disturbing
noises, when we stopped at the stoplight the car cut off and begun to overheat! The mall was already
about to close and the car was steaming! So we decided to relax and turn the radio on. My favorite

money! My aunt and I called my grandmother to tell her the amazing news, she said this would be the
perfect time to go on vacation! so my family decided we would like to travel within the united states
and while there, we would visit the cities of New York City, Hollywood, and Miami.
The first city my family will visit is New York City! When my family and I arrive we will check into a

Why Death Is Accepted As A Natural Part Of The Process Essay
Similarly, a study taken from the International Journal of Older People Nursing shows that that in one
third of the cases, nursing staff members who were caring for residents who died with dementia
reported that they experienced what they perceived as a high emotional burden (Albers, Block,
Stichele 2013). Healthcare workers in another study reported feelings of guilt and moral dilemma
regarding patient deaths (Dwyer, Hansebo, Andershed, and Ternestedt 2009). In this same study it is
important to note that the participants acknowledged that death is accepted as a natural part of the
process, however it was the circumstances under which the residents died and the employees
employee s feelings of personal responsibility for meeting individualized needs of the residents that
upset the employees the most. Most caretakers enter enters the profession due to a desire help others,
and it is inevitable that they form bonds with the residents they care for. This feeling of responsibility
coupled with the sheer frequency of experiencing the death of residents they care for can in turn
generate depressive symptoms.
What Is Not Currently Known About Depression and Healthcare Workers

palliative care residents, little has been formed on the healthcare workers that come in contact with

mostly in the ethnic republics of Tartarstan and Bashkortostan in the middle Volga region, and in the
republics of Chechnya, Ingushetia, Alania (North Ossetia), Kabardino Balkaria, and Dagestan. The
Jews and Christians are dispersed throughout the country and the Buddhists live chiefly in the
republics of Buryatia and Tuva on the Russian border with Mongolia and in Kalmykia on the
northwest shore of the Caspian Sea. (Microsoft Encarta)
Religion as one can clearly see had a direct impact on the Russian people but it also had a direct
influence on Russian art. Since art is a reflection of every culture, it is important that one studies it
when one is studying another culture.
The introduction of Christianity into Russia spurred the development of the country s fine arts. For
600 years, Christian forms of art dominated Russian painting, music, architecture, and literature.
Russian artists, however, applied their unique vision and dramatically altered the style imported so it
became their own. Especially in painting, the blending of foreign influences with native genius
produced some of the world s most beautiful icons. In the early 15th century Andrey Rublyov, one the

`` Fun Home, By Alison Bechdel
Part graphic memoir and part psychoanalytical study, Alison Bechdel s, Fun Home, is a charming
story about a girl s search for identity within an unconventional family. The novel style autobiography
frames Alison s childhood and adolescence as she struggles with themes of sexual confusion, gender
identity, and convoluted family dynamics. These ideas are explored through the examination of Alison
s relationship with her father, and their shared passion for literature.
Early on in her childhood, Alison came to the realization that her family was different. As individuals,
and as a unit, they were just plain weird. Unlike most young girls, Alison lacked a strong bond with
her parents, most notably her father, Bruce. Because they both display introverted personalities and
had divergent gender identities, Alison and her father never devised a solid relationship. Bruce is
described as possessing generally feminine qualities having passion for fine art and sophisticated
interior design; whereas Alison claims to have become a connoisseur of masculinity at a young age
(95). Neither of them fit their stereotypical role within the family; Bruce didn t act like a macho man
dad, and Alison wasn t playing dress up with all the other little girls. Though their personas seem
compatible, the stark difference in their gender affiliations was a source of great tension between
Alison and her father. Not only does Alison approach herself and her father as inversions of each
other, but she

Cajun Food Research Paper
Cajun American Culinary History
Cajun food comes from the deepest Southern parts of Louisiana and Mississippi. Like the area it
originated from, Cajun flavor is spicy, rich, and really, really good! A lot of people don t know that the
typical Cajun food was developed by extremely poor people. Refugees and farmers used what they
had to feed large families. If you ask a resident of the area, you will find out that Louisiana Creole
originated with the settling of European immigrants around 1690. These folks brought with them the
influences of European traditions including their cuisine.
Most were upper class aristocracy, so Creole today is seen as a classier, fine cuisine while Cajun is
more of a common cuisine. The main difference is that Cajun cuisine uses wild vegetables and game

This is still evidenced today in the Creole cooking we enjoy. As a lot of these people were probably
second sons with no hopes of inheriting land or holdings at home in Europe, they arrived here to
search out their fortunes. Many of these immigrants were French. The classic French dish named
Bouillabaisse is a tribute to that heritage.
In reality, Louisiana Creole cuisine is a mixture of several different and varied cultures. Soon after the
immigrants arrived in the area, native Indians introduced the use of local grown vegetables like corn,
ground sassafras and bay leaves. Tomatoes from Central and South America were also introduced. As
these ingredients began to see utilization, the Creole cuisine we know today started to take shape.
The Creoles that settled in the Louisiana area enjoyed a fairly rich lifestyle. A few years later, the
influx of African slaves brought okra seeds into the culture. Okra was added to some dishes, especially
soups, and since the African word for okra is gumbo , that is what we called the signature dish of

Charles Lutwidge Dodgson
In Daresbury in 1832, Charles Lutwidge Dodgson, or better know as Lewis Carroll was born. He grew
up with several younger siblings who he told stories to, one of those being Alice in Wonderland . This
beautifully written story is about a ten year old girl named Alice who falls down a rabbit s hole into a
colorful world full of mad characters called Wonderland. England in 1865 has become part of the
victorian time period and along with it came many traits that set it apart. Throughout the piece, Carroll
challenges many traits of England s society and turns them into something that made this story so
unforgettable. Victorian etiquette, education for children, government, and drugs are just some of the
things Carroll brings in from his time period ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At the very ending of the book, the King and Queen of Hearts make everyone attend court over the
case of the missing tarts. Alice thought everything seemed very official with the jury box that held all
of the jurors with their slates, and the king as the judge with his white wig on. Eventually, Alice
discovers that the jury is writing the words Stupid things on their slates, and one of them does not
even spell the word stupid correctly (130 Carroll). This continues on with the witnesses, but between
every break the king calls for the verdict of the jury. This does relate to the time period because it was
rumored that when it came to the court system in the 1800 s, the witnesses never really mattered to the
judge. This rumor was reflected onto the King of Heart s character. Throughout the court case, Alice
begins to openly announce her thoughts to the courtroom. She criticizes the queen s decision to make
the sentence before the verdict, Stuff and nonsense! The idea of having the sentence first! (146). It is
thought that the Queen of Hearts actually symbolizes a real queen of England. Queen Margaret of
Anjou ruled from 1445 to 1461, and then again from 1470 to 1471. She was married to King Henry
VII and she had a son named Edward. She fought for the house of Lancaster which has a red rose for
its family name (Margaret). This does connect to the Queen of Hearts when her servants had to paint
the roses red. Why, the fact is, you see, Miss, this here ought to have been a red rose tree, and we put a
white one in by mistake; and, it the Queen was to find it out, we should all have our heads cut off, you
know. (90). The white roses were the symbol for the house of York, these two houses fought for the
right to the English throne in the War of the Roses. In the end of Queen Margaret s reign, her son was
killed by getting his head cut off, which is

Clean Water Act Argument Essay
Furthermore, the Shore Protection Act is applicable to the transportation of municipal and commercial
waste in coastal waters aiming to minimize debris from being deposited into coastal waters from
inadequate waste handling procedures by waste transporting vessels (Laws That Protect). The Center
for Biodiversity had petitioned the EPA to begin regulating plastics as a pollutant under The Clean
Water Act a crucial first step in reducing the amount of plastic. The Clean Water Act is the nation s
strongest law protecting water quality. Recognition of plastic pollution under the clean water act
enables states to develop water quality standards to finally begin curbing the amount of plastic

Serving as the number one source of our plastic use, companies opt for plastic containers because it s
easy, feasible, and convenient. Food packaging alone makes up for 30 40% of landfills with much of
that plastic being carried into the oceans. Going off of this, a new concept that s quickly becoming
popular are package free grocery stores. These cost effective grocery stores have everything you could
possible need in bulk form and consumers bring glass or reusable containers, or cloth bags and fill
them with the food they need. First popping up in cities like Berlin, Vienna, and Barcelona, many are
finding this a more sustainable and eco friendly option resulting in these sort of grocery stores quickly
spreading across the ocean, with the first one in the United States expected to open in Brooklyn, New
York. Business operators are extremely optimistic that this could serve a very impactful solution to
getting rid of unnecessary plastic. (Che Jenny).
In conclusion, it should have been learned that the issue of plastic pollution has become ruinous. The
cost of repair and the inconvenience of lifestyle changes cannot compare to the frightful future this
planet is headed. At current rates, hazards are not just inflicted on Earth s oceans but individual human
health and the other creatures that rightly inhabit this land. With this concern

Reflection And Educational Differences In The Educational...
When we started this eight week course about differentiation I already had a lot of background
information on this subject. I did learn a few things about how to help my colleagues jump on the
bandwagon of differentiation. By helping my fellow teachers change their mindset towards planning
with differentiation in mind I am making a positive difference in my students educational experience.
When differentiation is used properly students are taught lessons in ways that are both meaningful and
specific to the students educational needs. Differentiation is a great tool that teachers can use to help
decrease the educational gap between students skills and the grade level standards that they should be
meeting. For this class we had to create a lesson with differentiation in mind. For me this assignment
was easy because I already plan my lessons with differentiation in mind. What came naturally with
differentiation was differentiating for content, process, and product. Each station that I planned had
some sort of differentiation to help students understand the concept that was being taught. Including
these extra strategies was easy and did not add any extra time for me to plan. What I found to be more
challenging was differentiating with readiness in mind. With 50 plus students in my gymnasium I have
a wide range of skill levels. This means that I have to use my pre assessment data in order to figure
who might need more help and who can be pushed a little further to extend

Persuasive Essay On Little Rock Nine
The Little Rock Nine were a group of nine black students who enrolled at formerly all white Central
High School in Little Rock, Arkansas, in September 1957. Their attendance at the school was a test of
Brown v. Board of Education, a landmark 1954 Supreme Court ruling that declared segregation in
public schools unconstitutional. On September 4, 1957, the first day of classes at Central High,
Governor Orval Faubus called in the Arkansas National Guard to block the black students entry into
the high school. Later that month, President Dwight D. Eisenhower sent in federal troops to escort the
Little Rock Nine into the school.
In response to the Brown decisions and pressure from the local chapter of the National Association for
the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), the Little Rock, Arkansas, school board adopted a
plan for gradual integration of its schools. The first institutions to integrate would be the high schools,

Comparing Winter s Tale And My Brother, The Artist, At Seven
In Mark Helprin s novel, Winter s Tale, and Levine s poem, My Brother, the Artist, at Seven , the
characters grow spiritually, Rising Above themselves. The characters in both the novel and the poem
share this charactersistic. Rising above one s self is not only a figurative theme in the characters, but
also a literal theme. Beverly Penn, Peter Lake, and Cecile Mature in Helprin s novel, as well as the
young boy in Levine s poem, all show similiar traits of rising above. Beverly Penn rises above herself
in some very meaningful circumstances in Mark Helprin s novel, Winter s Tale. One moment in the
novel in which Beverly is shown rising above herself is when, Peter Lake watches as she plays the
piano. The novel states, He had unspeakable admiration for the way she had risen from obvious
weakness to court with such passion the elusive and demanding notes that he had heard. She had done
what Mootfowl had always argued. She had risen above herself, right before his eyes she had risen,
and then fallen back, weakened, vulnerable, alone (Helprin, Pg. 127). Beverly pushed through the
weakness she was experiencing from consumption, and conquered it. She was doing something that
she loved and doing it strikingly well. This was Beverly rising above herself, challenging herself to

Sir Gawain And The Green Knight Summary Chapter 12
During the fourth chapter of Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, the journey towards the Green Chapel
commences. Sir Gawain is escorted by a member of the Red Manor, who gives the knight a heed of
warning. The escort offers advice to not travel to the Green Chapel, and if he chose this path, the
escort would not tell of his fleeing. Sir Gawain thanks the escort for his warning but tells him that he
has to keep his word, otherwise he would become a coward. The chapel was almost missed, if it not
for Sir Gawain noticing a rounded hillock on the bank of a stream, near the bed of a torrent that
tumbled there (Sir Gawain 2172 73). Sir Gawain entered the mound, which was the entrance to the
chapel. Here, he met up with the Green Knight. This is where he reached the end of his quest and was
destined to receive his blow to the neck. Sir Gawain moved away from the first attempt, which caused
the Knight to suspect that he was not the true knight of the quest. After a dialogue was exchanged
between the two, the Green Knight struck a blow to Sir Gawain, which only nicked his neck. The
Green Knight told him that his wife was Morgan, whom Gawain spent time with in the Manor, and
she was sent to test Gawain. The Green Knight called Sir Gawain one of the most perfect men who
ever walked on the earth (Sir Gawain 2363). Sir Gawain replied in anger, saying that he was not a
virtuous knight, therefore he doesn t deserve such a remark. Sir Gawain was sent back to Arthur s

Cultural Competence And The Field Of Law And Within The...
Part I
To start a discussion a cultural competence in the field of law and within the courtroom, it s important
to establish the definition of culture in clarity. Culture is a dynamic value system of learned elements,
with assumptions, conventions, beliefs and rules permitting members of a group to relate to each other
and to the world, to communicate and to develop their creative potential. (Obialo) Religion, food,
language, customs, unspoken values and beliefs, clothing and other outward expressions make up a
group s culture. There are four key components within cultural competence. Those four key
components include awareness of your own cultural worldview; your attitude toward differences in
cultures; your knowledge of different practices and worldviews culturally; and your communication
skills cross culturally. For example, take a case of divorce and child custody involving an Indian
couple. The facts exemplified how a judge s lack of knowledge to the culture and practices of the
individuals could result in an inaccurate conclusion. In this case, the husband testifies that his wife
was hysterical and claimed that she worshiped blocks of blood and practiced voodoo. His testimony
casted common Hindu practices in an unfavorable light. This was his scheme to make the courts
believe his wife was emotionally volatile and was not fit to parent their child. However, it would be a
great mistake to depend on the husband s testimony as the authority one the significance

The Creative Curriculum Program Is An Effective Learning...
The Creative Curriculum program is an effective learning style that assists preschool children ranging
from ages 3 to 5 years old. Founded by a former preschool teacher, Diane Trister Dodge, this early
childhood education program with a comprehensive curriculum is structured to be directed by the
teacher, but initiated by the children. The philosophy of the Creative Curriculum is to allow the
children to learn at their best efforts in an environment that is safe and open for exploration. Child
centers that use this curriculum allow the children to develop and learn through planned programming,
select materials, and guided learning. The goal is to enhance their physical, cognitive, language,
social, and emotional development through hands on learning activities. The sole principle of the
curriculum program is to identify the learning styles of the children, and strengthen them through
learning activities that spark their interests. This is to help the children become enthusiastic learners.
The content areas covered within the Creative Curriculum are: literacy, math, science, social studies,
the arts, and technology. Educators of the curriculum are well qualified and are trained to possess the
ability to provide positive classroom management, build analytical skills and relationship skills. The
role of the teacher is to guide the learning process. With a student to teacher ratio of 7:1,the teachers
are there to observe and evaluate the progress of the children. The

Mattress Vs Latex Research Paper
When looking for a mattress that can replace your old mattress, your three best choices are spring,
foam and latex mattress. The differences are so distinct that it will really take a bit of pondering to
figure out which mattress is the best choice.
Let us take a look at the pros and cons of using each mattress:
About Foam Mattress
The most popular form of foam mattress is the memory foam. This is a special kind of foam that is
sensitive to the heat of your body. This technology enables it to conform well to your body resulting to
better sleep minus the usual body aches and pains. This is actually the type of mattress recommended
for people constantly suffering from back aches and pains.

Its firmness has always been compared to memory foam, however, it uses less density so it is slightly
bouncier. There are numerous upsides to using this mattress. It does not use any kind of chemical so it
is good for those with suffering from chemical allergies. Also, it is inherently durable but even made
more durable because it is resistant to molds.
Latex is not good for people suffering with latex. However, there are also synthetic latex around that
mimics the comfort and support provided by 100% natural latex. Also, to give a chance to latex
sufferers to try this mattress, some companies remove the protein found in rubber tree sap as this is the
main reason why allergies are instigated.
About Spring
Spring mattresses occupy the biggest part of the mattress population. Most company use this
technology as this is the easiest to develop, not to mention, the cheapest. This is a good choice if you
want a heavenly kind of mattress feel. But make sure that you scrutinize closely the quality of the

Intellectual and Patent Infringement between Apple and Samsung
Introduction
Intellectual Property Concepts: Patents, Trade Mark, Trade Secret and Copyright
The modern economy is principally technology driven. Technology products are normally creations of
the mind. They entail unique techniques, products, or brands. In order to protect their own investment,
entrepreneurs need to safeguard these creations because they are intellectual property. Intellectual
property is the mind s product, but can be manifested physically. Therefore, its concept behind it can
be copied or transferred. These concepts need to be protected by law. There are four major kinds of
intellectually property, all which have some legal protection. These include patents, ... Show more

They also indicate sponsorship and authorization. They also differentiate a company s products from
those of competitors. Trademarks also show value and image as an effort to create a notion of quality
or uniqueness in the mind of the customer. Trademark infringement takes place when there is chance
of confusion between two products or services offered by different companies (Knudson, 2006).
Trademarks are usually a crucial element of company s marketing strategy and therefore need to be
selected carefully and safeguarded consistently against all possible violators. Copyrights are used in
protection of artistic works like books, plays, films, music, paintings, or computer software. Copyright
infringement entails use of such works either in part of whole without prior permission of their
owners, or without acknowledging the source (Knudson, 2006). Trade secret refers to any intellectual
property that grants its holder a competitive edge over the competitors. It includes any information
which may in from of a formula, pattern, compilation, program, technique, process that derives
sovereign economic value from not being known. Unlike patents which protect the original inventor
regardless of the source of subsequent inventions, trade secrets are not safeguarded (Knudson, 2006).
Further, a person can dismantle a product in order to uncover a trade secret without infringement
through a process known as reverse engineering. However,

Literary Analysis Of The Sick Rose By William Blake
The Sick Rose by William Blake was published in 1794, included in his collections of poems titled
Songs of Innocence and Songs of Experience. The Songs of Innocence have a more innocent tone to
them while the Songs of Experience have a darker tone to the poems, as showcased by The Sick Rose
. While the poem tells a story about a sick rose dying from the worm that has penetrated it from its
garden bed, the meaning behind it is much more sinister. The central metaphor of the poem tells of a
person who violates a woman and ruins her life, but it is hidden behind a seemingly innocent poem
about a rose and a worm. There are many different interpretations behind this poem, but all with the
central message of the worm ruining the rose. Taking the poem literally one will read that the speaker
addresses the rose as if it were a person, and tells it that it sick. O Rose thou art sick (1). The speaker
thereby personifies the rose hinting at that the rose represents more than a simple flower. In the next
three lines, the speaker tells of an invisible worm that is able to fly in storms. The invisible worm, /
That flies in the night / In the howling storm (2 4). This also uncovers a hidden meaning behind the
worm because no real worm is able to fly, and especially because it can fly during a storm. In lines 5 6
the worm has found its way into the rose bed where everything is red. Lines 7 8 tell the reader that the
worms dark secret love has killed the rose. This is another point in the poem which points to a deeper
or hidden meaning, as a worm who is killing a rose cannot truly love it. In literature, worms usually
represent death and decay while roses symbolize love and nature. The worm killing the rose shows the
continuous cycle of life of how a flower blooms, and then something comes along to kill it.
The first meaning behind the poem points to the rose being a fair woman who has become sick. After
this statement, the speaker brings in the element of the worm who represents a man. The worm could
also represent the man s phallus. This man The invisible worm, / That flies in the night / In the
howling storm (3 4). The man comes in the night during a storm and is invisible, implying that he isn t
wanted.

What Is Rawls Original Position
Rawls explains the uses for political philosophy; such as settling the problem of order and specifying
principles in order to create a just and reasonable society (Rawls 3). The original position is a part of
Rawls s political philosophy. Rawls wrote the original position in order to create a view from which a
fair agreement between free and equal persons can be reached (Rawls 15). He has a couple of specific
concerns to which the original position is a solution. One of the concerns that Rawls brings up is if
someone has an unfair bargaining advantage. In order for a fair agreement to be reached, one must,
eliminate the bargaining advantages that inevitably arise over time within any society as a result of
cumulative social and historical tendencies (Rawls 16). These unfair bargaining advantages could
include political power and influence or economical and educational advantages. Another concern for
Rawls is that people s views are distorted by the circumstances of the existing basic structure (Rawls

aforementioned difficulties by eliminating the motivation for deception. If one does not know who
they are representing, then there is no motivation to choose an option that would suit one type of
person better than the other. Also the original position eliminates the means for deception because one

  • 2. Response To Public Art Page 1 description response to public art Art is undefined. There are no rules and no boundaries to art. Art is whatever you want it to be. The beauty is in the eye of the beholder. It seems like today, art is everywhere. Someone is trying to express how they feel or trying to persuade people to their cause or efforts. Art to us is the Mona Lisa by Da Vinci, or Starry Night by Van Gogh; but it also can be spray paint on the side of a train, or a drawing on the bathroom stall. However you feel, you can express yourself through art. It is a way to relay your feelings to the general public. It seems that the best art, is the art that leaves you guessing the meaning. Wondering what the artist was feeling when making their piece. There is no right ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Michael Gutlove is the artist of this piece, it has a value of $109,000. Bright pieces of wavy glass dangle from the ceiling in no particular order. As students walk by underneath, the glass turns and waves with the shift in air, giving the art movement and life. The location of this piece is not as important as the fisherman. It does need a ceiling, preferably one with a lot of traffic and natural light. The piece does have LED lights on some of the glass pieces and they change color. To me, this piece looks like a school of fish, swimming around in the ocean. That is why I related it to the fisherman in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Technology And Science More Than World War II No other war in history has had such a profound impact on technology and science more than World War II did. There were numerous new scientific principles and inventions that emerged during the war. This includes thing such as the automatic aircraft (which is known today as a cruise missile) and also the ballistic missile (flew into space before falling down on its target). These missiles were later developed and helped launch the first American astronauts to space. Other technological advancements include huge radar improvements, mass production of penicillin, new products, and nutrition advancements of foods. The first practical radar was created in 1935, though it wasn t until the war that it saw vast improvements. Radars made the concept of a surprise attack nearly obsolete. This technology allowed nations to track incoming attacks from air, helped guide their bombers to targets, and directed anti aircraft guns to aircraft high in the air. By constructing complicated electronics that had to be small and rugged, radar engineers helped set the path for modern technology, such as tv. It also helped create radar navigation, and meteorologists used the technology to help track storms, which helped plan strategic military attacks. During World War II American companies had to convert to create military goods (consumer good manufacture creating surgical instruments, car factories creating tanks and airplanes). Do to this conversions of companies, many Americans faced ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Frostburg State University-Personal Narrative Analysis A lot of people have life lessons or events that have changed them somehow. I have a very petrifying experience that changed how I see things. I was about ten years old when this happens my family and I were going on a trip to Frostburg State University. It was a Friday after school, I had to pack the night before, so we could leave right after I got off the bus, I remember not being very excited about going nor were my brothers. My parents were very excited though because it was the college that they both graduated from. I had no desire in going because I was only ten at the time, so I did not need to be visiting colleges, or going to more school on my weekend. We were just doing this for my parents, this obviously meant a lot to them. I don t have much recognition of the ride up because I slept the majority of the it. ... Finally, we arrived at the campus it was dark now, it was nice I just didn t think much of it. We dove around for a bit and finally we stopped at Gunthers, an old hotel(appositive). It was a very eerie place, one of the creepiest places I have ever been too, it was like a ghost town. We got our room key and began walking to our room, it had dead animals, and creepy baby dolls behind glass displays, flickering lights, also zero other people in there. I did not like the feeling of the place at all. When we arrived at our room, a blast of frigid air hits me in the face. It had a mysterious smell too it, I did not like it at all so I went to bed immediately so I could get out of there as soon as possible. We woke up around eight in the morning. • 6. Social And Social Impact On Social Media It has been suggested that people use social media sites, consciously or unconsciously, (Haferkamp Kramer, 2011) as a basis for social comparative functions, such as self evaluation (Festinger, 1954). Individuals usually compare themselves with others on various characteristics such as popularity, appearance, and success (Feinstein, Hershenberg, Bhatia, Latack, Meuwly, Davila, 2013). When information is acquired of others, people will compare themselves to others (Mussweiler, Ruter, Epstude, 2006). According to Wood (1989), social comparison is not in itself problematic. However, little research has been found that examines the social comparison behavior on social media (Lee, 2014). Facebook is an important place and tool for social life among college students (Boyd, 2007). On average, college students have a minimum of 358 friends, with most spending their time reading the content of other people s pages (Pempek, Yermolayeva, Calvert, 2009). The frequent use among Facebook users that are college students implies that they are likely to engage in social comparison on Facebook (Lee, 2014). There have been few studies that have examined a person s psychological characteristics (e.g. self esteem, depression, and self consciousness) and Facebook use (citations). In a previous study conducted by Lee (2014) on how college students compare themselves with others on Facebook, there was a negative relationship between social comparison frequency and self esteem. Human behavior is an extraordinarily interesting subject and therefore produces a plethora of ideas from a variety of theorists. These theorists are influenced by their education, culture, and time period. One of the most influential, empathetically understanding, theorists is Carl Rogers. His contributions to human behavior have changed many of the theories that preceded him, and contributed his theory to many theories that followed him. Rogers may not have worked with his clients to produce and obtain goals, but he did have a ultimate goal in his therapeutic work. According to Rogers, They [clients] are then able to accept themselves as they are and to commit themselves to becoming more like they can and want to be (as cited in Truscott, 2010, p. 72). The client is in turn aided by the therapist in becoming as authentic as possible. Thus this authenticity would provide the client with the ability to be true to themselves and their feelings. I find this to be useful in allowing the client to process their internal feelings, externally. According to Truscott (2010), Therapists must be willing and able to listen without prejudice, judgment, or agenda if the client is to have any chance of feeling truly understood and accepted. Positive feelings, negative feelings, and silence must be acceptable to the therapist (p. 73). This is interesting because it requires that the therapists become void of any judgments. To me this seems like a difficult task to accomplish because of the nature of judgments. Understandably so, the therapist would automatically make judgments of the client, as a natural inclination even with the best intentions against judgments. So, what kind of a therapist must one be to establish a patient centered therapy? ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Canada has been well regarded with its attitude towards multiculturalism, establishing an Act that protects the rights of people who have different beliefs and the encouragement for all cultures to work together. While being the only country to have a policy such as the Multiculturalism Act, racism has been a part of Canadian history, including but not limited to the colonialism of Indigenous Peoples and the internment of Japanese Canadians. The effects of colonialism on indigenous culture and the treatment of Japanese Canadians are reflected in the novels Monkey Beach by Eden Robinson and Obasan by Joy Kogawa. The main characters of the novels, Lisamarie in Monkey Beach and Naomi in Obasan, both come to terms with the effects of growing up in minority communities in British Columbia, as well as discovering their own identities, by reflecting on their pasts during a time of family tragedies. Lisamarie struggles with accepting and understanding her spirituality in a family that mostly ignores and denies their connections to the spirituality of their ancestors, due to the effects of colonialism and residential schools. Naomi reflects on her family being removed from their homes and the racism that the Japanese faced after the Pearl Harbour attack. • 12. Analysis Of Tinker Vs. Des Moines, And Bethel V. Fraser The first amendment, which is considered the right to freedom of speech, is a misconception to many. Not all citizens, but some, think that because of the first amendment; they can say whatever they want. Although citizens of the United States have the right to freedom of speech, this freedom of speech is viewed differently by others. Which leads to confusion as to what can be said and what cannot be said. Both court cases: Tinker v. Des Moines, and Bethel v. Fraser involved the confusion and misunderstanding of this first amendment. In December, 1969, a group of students in Des Moines held a meeting in the home of Christopher Eckhardt to plan a public showing of their support for a truce in the Vietnam War. 1 These students decided to wear black armbands to show their support. These students included: John F. Tinker, Hope Tinker, Mary Beth Tinker, Paul Tinker, and Christopher Eckhardt. Whenever the Principal found out about their plan, he stated that any student found wearing these black armbands would be suspended.2 Despite the Principal s warning, the students still wore the black armbands.3 On December 16, Christopher Eckhardt and Mary Beth Tinker wore their black armbands to school and were sent home. After exposure to 20 bar of syngas at 493 K, the fcc XRD peaks became narrower over 5 hrs, which was suggested to be due to an increase in the particle size due to sintering of the Co metal phase. Over the subsequent 5 hrs this peak decreased in intensity and a new peak assigned to a carbide phase grew in. Therefore, the authors concluded that deactivation of the catalyst was due initially to sintering and then, over longer periods of time, to carbidisation. The loved object serves as a substitute for some unattained ideal. In the case of the sonnets, the ideal is love. Being in love allows the poet to have what he wants but could not acquire before and serves as a means of satisfying his self love. Joseph Pequigney, author of Such is My Love: A Study of Shakespeare s Sonnets, agrees with and elaborates on Freud. He writes, All of these characteristics belong to the poet s love for the friend. It is a love that pays handsome narcissistic dividends; it is advantageous also for the friend, who is praised for personal qualities that would likely pass unnoticed were the poet not under the spell of his beauty. Pequigney goes on to touch on the antithesis of the poet s love for the young man, his lust for his mistress the dark lady . Because the mistress offers no self seeking advantages, she is disesteemed with vice but never virtue ascribed to her (Pequigney 157). The poet attacks and questions her physical attractiveness as the affair goes on and she arouses lust that comes and goes. Sonnets 127 154 are addressed to the dark lady (hereafter the mistress). Whereas most writers merely borrow from history to fuel their creative fires, Shakespeare goes so far as to rewrite history. The First Part of Henry the Fourth follows history fairly closely, and Shakespeare draws this history primarily from Raphael Holinshed s Chronicle of England, Scotland, and Ireland and from Samuel Daniel s verse epic The Civil Wars (Abrams 823). For the most part, Shakespeare did indeed fabricate Falstaff, Poins, and the whole Tavern Group, yet historical evidence does support some sort of provincial getaway. McFarlane records that in 1412 the younger Henry remained dissatisfied [with his father] and shortly afterwards withdrew once more into the provinces, where he was soon again at his old tricks (110). Shakespeare originally named the character of Falstaff after the Protestant martyr John Oldcastle. Shakespeare eventually bowed to the objections of Oldcastle s descendants, renaming the character (Abrams 823). At the Battle of Shrewsbury, Shakespeare describes how Hal kills Hotspur, eulogizes him (5.4.78 102), and then concedes the victory of the kill to Falstaff (5.4.138 50). History records that Hal himself suffered an arrow shot to the face (Rowse 44) and that no one knows for certain who killed Hotspur (Jacob 52 3). History further records that, as for the eulogy, it was the king who shed tears over Hotspur s slain figure, not the young prince (Rowse 45). Despite Hotspur being three years older than Hal s father (Hotspur died at age thirty nine) (Rowse 44), Shakespeare paints the portrait of Hotspur and Hal as contemporaries, following poet Daniel s lead (Drabble 475). Healthcare workers in another study reported feelings of guilt and moral dilemma regarding patient deaths (Dwyer, Hansebo, Andershed, and Ternestedt 2009). In this same study it is important to note that the participants acknowledged that death is accepted as a natural part of the process, however it was the circumstances under which the residents died and the employees employee s feelings of personal responsibility for meeting individualized needs of the residents that upset the employees the most. Beverly Penn, Peter Lake, and Cecile Mature in Helprin s novel, as well as the young boy in Levine s poem, all show similiar traits of rising above. Beverly Penn rises above herself in some very meaningful circumstances in Mark Helprin s novel, Winter s Tale. One moment in the novel in which Beverly is shown rising above herself is when, Peter Lake watches as she plays the piano. The novel states, He had unspeakable admiration for the way she had risen from obvious weakness to court with such passion the elusive and demanding notes that he had heard. She had done what Mootfowl had always argued. She had risen above herself, right before his eyes she had risen, and then fallen back, weakened, vulnerable, alone (Helprin, Pg. 127). Beverly pushed through the weakness she was experiencing from consumption, and conquered it. She was doing something that she loved and doing it strikingly well. This was Beverly rising above herself, challenging herself to overcome her weakness. Beverly is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 29. Sir Gawain And The Green Knight Summary Chapter 12 During the fourth chapter of Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, the journey towards the Green Chapel commences. Sir Gawain is escorted by a member of the Red Manor, who gives the knight a heed of warning. The escort offers advice to not travel to the Green Chapel, and if he chose this path, the escort would not tell of his fleeing. Sir Gawain thanks the escort for his warning but tells him that he has to keep his word, otherwise he would become a coward. The chapel was almost missed, if it not for Sir Gawain noticing a rounded hillock on the bank of a stream, near the bed of a torrent that tumbled there (Sir Gawain 2172 73). Sir Gawain entered the mound, which was the entrance to the chapel. Here, he met up with the Green Knight. This is where he reached the end of his quest and was destined to receive his blow to the neck. Sir Gawain moved away from the first attempt, which caused the Knight to suspect that he was not the true knight of the quest. After a dialogue was exchanged between the two, the Green Knight struck a blow to Sir Gawain, which only nicked his neck. The Green Knight told him that his wife was Morgan, whom Gawain spent time with in the Manor, and she was sent to test Gawain. The Green Knight called Sir Gawain one of the most perfect men who ever walked on the earth (Sir Gawain 2363). Sir Gawain replied in anger, saying that he was not a virtuous knight, therefore he doesn t deserve such a remark. Sir Gawain was sent back to Arthur s ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 36. Literary Analysis Of The Sick Rose By William Blake The Sick Rose by William Blake was published in 1794, included in his collections of poems titled Songs of Innocence and Songs of Experience. The Songs of Innocence have a more innocent tone to them while the Songs of Experience have a darker tone to the poems, as showcased by The Sick Rose . While the poem tells a story about a sick rose dying from the worm that has penetrated it from its garden bed, the meaning behind it is much more sinister. The central metaphor of the poem tells of a person who violates a woman and ruins her life, but it is hidden behind a seemingly innocent poem about a rose and a worm. There are many different interpretations behind this poem, but all with the central message of the worm ruining the rose. Taking the poem literally one will read that the speaker addresses the rose as if it were a person, and tells it that it sick. O Rose thou art sick (1). The speaker thereby personifies the rose hinting at that the rose represents more than a simple flower. In the next three lines, the speaker tells of an invisible worm that is able to fly in storms. The invisible worm, / That flies in the night / In the howling storm (2 4). This also uncovers a hidden meaning behind the worm because no real worm is able to fly, and especially because it can fly during a storm. In lines 5 6 the worm has found its way into the rose bed where everything is red. Lines 7 8 tell the reader that the worms dark secret love has killed the rose. This is another point in the poem which points to a deeper or hidden meaning, as a worm who is killing a rose cannot truly love it. In literature, worms usually represent death and decay while roses symbolize love and nature. The worm killing the rose shows the continuous cycle of life of how a flower blooms, and then something comes along to kill it. The first meaning behind the poem points to the rose being a fair woman who has become sick. After this statement, the speaker brings in the element of the worm who represents a man. The worm could also represent the man s phallus. This man The invisible worm, / That flies in the night / In the howling storm (3 4). The man comes in the night during a storm and is invisible, implying that he isn t wanted. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
