Employment Of A Vital Labor And Employment Law
A vital labor and employment law is the Age Discrimination in Employment Act, also known as the
ADEA. The law was enacted in 1967 and later amended. On the Unites States EEOC website, they
write, ADEA protects individuals who are 40 years of age or older from employment discrimination
based on age. (The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, 2008) The law is meant to
safeguard workers from being discriminated against due to their age. The law is especially important
now with workers staying on the job longer and retirees returning to the workforce after retirement.
The EEOC states, The law applies to employers with 20 or more employees, including state and local
governments. It also applies to employment agencies and labor organizations, as well as to the federal
government. (The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, 2008) Age discrimination can
come in many forms in the business world. First, employment advertisements brings the attention of
work seeking people. An employer can use certain words in their employment advertisements that can
keep older workers from applying to the job, as an example: young, recent college graduate, youthful,
and etc. An employer using these words can open them to discrimination lawsuits. Similarly, in an
article from the Seattle Times which list five of the biggest legal missteps Human Resources can
make, they write, The hiring process: Mistakes in this area often start right at the beginning, with

The Book Of Numbers 22-24 By Calvin Seerveld Essay
In the book of Numbers 22 24, we get a very odd story. A story of a man, angels, a talking donkey,
curses and more! The author also wants to find out how this can help us understand more of the Bible
and Israel. He does this by going through the passage and giving us different ways of approaching the
text. The author is critiquing the approaches to help the reader understand the good and the bad of
each. The author, Calvin Seerveld gives us a good, in depth study of this passage. In this paper, I will
give a summary of what Seerveld is saying on this passage. Seerveld starts off his book by giving an
overview of what the biblical story is about and then moves on to the anemones/strange things of this
story. There are many strange things which require us to look deeper in the text. At first, it looks like
God changes his mind often and being difficult. There are other small things that seem odd to the
story. There are some issues with the way the character travels, the elders are mentioned in the
beginning of the story, then not heard from again, some repetitious statements and other things.
However, it is important to note the story floated around orally for many years and there were
different variations of the story. It took a long time before they were all written down into a story. In
fact, Seerveld argues the third and fourth oracles were written before the time of Solomon and his
kingdom was divided. The first two oracles were not composed until the late 7th century

Conspiracy Theories Around 9-11
The worst terrorist attack in U.S history occurred on September 11, 2001. According to U.S
government officials, nineteen men hijacked four fuel loaded commercial planes with the intent to
destroy the World Trade Center in New York City, as well as both the Pentagon and the White House
in Washington D.C. The attacks began at 8:46am ET when American Airline s Flight 11 struck the
North tower of the World Trade Center, causing chaos on the streets below. Not even twenty minutes
later, another commercial plane, United Airlines Flight 175, struck the south tower. Americans and
people all over the world watched helplessly as the action on the East Coast unfolded. Any American
old enough to remember can most likely tell you exactly where he or ... Show more content on

One MSNBC reporter, who was actually inside the north tower after the plane struck, stated I heard a
second explosion...And then a fire marshal came in and said we had to leave, because if there was a
third explosion this building might not last (Bombs and Explosions in the WTC 1). This quote not
only tells us that there was a possible explosion inside the World Trade Center, but that there seem to
have been more than one. If the collapse of the towers really was a controlled demolition as it looked
like to many, this would mean that a lot of premeditated work to place explosives would have had to
occur. Seeing as very few people have access to every place of the World Trade Center, it does seem
likely that some government cooperation would have been needed to make it happen.
Many researchers claim that the explosions heard in and around the World Trade Center could have
been from exploding electrical transformers. They say that the heat from the fire was too much for the
transformers and caused explosions throughout the building. Author of George Washington s Blog had
this to say about the topic: Well, if exploding transformers caused these sounds and the collapse of the
Twin Towers, why didn t we hear the same things and see the collapse of the buildings in Madrid,
Venezuela, Los Angeles and elsewhere which burned hotter and

What Is The Theme Of Sexualism In The Eve Of St Agnes By...
Pre Raphaelite art was a movement was born of poetry, English Romanti cism texts inspired the young
artists of the Brotherhood. The first of these texts The Eve of St Agnes, a poem by John Keats and key
text from Romanticism that served as inspiration for John Everett Millais and William Holman Hunt
and spawned the dawn of the Pre Raphaelite Brotherhood. A romantic tale of elopement and
awakening sexuality, young Porphyro hides in Madeline s bed chamber,
Even to Madeline s chamber, and there hide Him in a closet, of such privacy that he might see her
beauty unespied,
And win perhaps that night a peerless bride,
While legion d faires pac d the coverlet,
And pale enchantment held her sleepy eyed.

The name Pre Raphaelite came from their opposition of the academy s promotion of the Renaissance
painter Raphael. Other inspirations came from art critic John Ruskin s encouragement to go to nature ,
believing art to be a serious subject that should be treated with maximum realism and truth.
The principal philosophies of their movement were primarily religious, but would often draw
inspiration from texts and literature, particularly those associated with death and love. In their
paintings, the Brotherhood created an entirely new manner of presenting human anatomy by imbuing
their depictions of men and women with medieval and spiritual ideas in which they were so
captivated. Its original members; John Everett Millais, William Holman Hunt and Dante Gabriel
Rosetti s work became heavily influential after great opposition at the beginning, and a second phase
of the movement occurred at around 1860 with particular works ¬¬¬¬majorly influencing the
succeeding Symbolism movement.
After a 1984 exhibition of the Pre Raphaelite s works at the Tate Gallery, a shift in the interpretation of
their work took place. Instead, analysis grew upon the subject of gender and sexuality when it came to
light the relationships between the artistic work and the circumstances of its creation. Priorities over
the attitudes concerning women that thought of them as either devilish femme fatale s or virtuous

Societal Norms In Boys And Girls By Alice Munro
In today s world there are many ideologies that women are set to follow but that are also easy to break
through. As society progresses, people have to adjust to new societal norms. The story, Boys and Girls
by Alice Munro is about an 11 year old girl who lives in a fox breeding farm, alongside her parents
and siblings. The whole point of breeding the foxes is to be able to kill them and later skin them but
the horses they own are killed in order to feed and bulk up the foxes. This is an everyday routine for
the little girl, who takes pride in helping out her father with outdoor chores. She takes it as a
compliment and blushes when her father introduces her as his hired man since it is something she
prefers doing over house work. She dreads ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The story, Boys and Girls states As soon as I was done I ran out of, trying to get out of earshot before
my mother thought of what she wanted me to do next (Munro 156). It shows a wide example of how
gender roles are strictly implied in this household and how the little girl tries to avoid it as much as
possible. The story follows between the lines between a woman being fragile and catering to men, and
men not breaking and providing for the family. The feminist theory widely connects to the story
because it gives an insight of the issue of the typical gender roles and what big of an impact it makes
when they are not followed. According to the article Gender Inequality in the Home, by authors Janell
Fetterolf and Lauren Rudman Despite women s increased presence and status in the workforce, there
is still a disparity in domestic labor that disadvantages women (Fetterolf 220). It proves a critical point
that women will always be set to gender role standards that they are expected to follow. The 11 year
old girl struggles with wanting to be out with her father but still having to take responsibility for the
tasks that are imposed and meant for her. According to the story, the girl s father introduced her as his,
new hired man. I turned away and raked furiously, red in the face with pleasure (Munro 155). It seems
as though she takes much pride in being seen as masculine figure, rather than being portrayed in the
norm of a fragile good girl who is supposed to be at home doing housework. In the article, Feminism
as Critique in a Neoliberal Age it states, This imputed gender subtext proved to be increasingly
counterfactual with only a very small proportion of the population conforming to a normative dualistic
model of separate masculine and feminine

Impact Of The United Kingdom On Britain s Current Issues...
With the United Kingdom being the 3rd European country with the highest GDP it is rather difficult to
assume that issues such as negative economic growth, rising unemployment (Mooney and Scott, 2012)
and consequently poverty would have any magnitude in its territory. However poverty does appear to
be an issue in Scotland, even though it contributes as the 2nd largest percentage on UK s GVA (7.7%
ONS, 2012). With the acceptance of the referendum Scotland was aiming for independence and
therefore taking in its own hands decision making regarding sectors such as the economic one by
prioritizing and making the right decisions in order to tackle issues such as that of poverty. After
September 18th 2014 economic changes concerning currency, unemployment and natural resources
would have an impact on Scotland s current issues regarding poverty. An issue that has been in
Scotland s economic agenda afore the economic crisis of 2008/09 is poverty despite the fact that
Scotland s economy was growing steadily until 2007 (McKendrick, J., et al. 2011). By 2013 Scotland
had a greater relative poverty rate than the UK with 16% , which is an increase since 2007 when the
case was in reverse positions. These statistics indicate an adverse development in Scotland s relative
poverty rates over the past eight years to which economic factors come from both macroeconomic as
well as microeconomic spectrums. The four main macroeconomic objectives (high economic growth,
low inflation, balance of

The History of American Literature
The history of American Literature starts well before this land was even called America. It has been a
great evolution to come from tribal symbols and drawings to today s Stephen King and Danielle
Steele. Literature has gone through many phases and was impacted by great events and ideas in
American history. The earliest form of literature in what would one day be known as America were far
from what modern day people would consider Literature . The Natives who inhabited this land first
had unwritten ways of passing on experiences, beliefs, and stories. Natives relied heavily on the verbal
telling of these stories to younger generations. The same stories, fables, or belief structures were told
repeatedly, each time identical to the last, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Mather s rewarding career included writings on science and medicine as well as theology and history.
His Sentiments on the Small Pox Inoculated (1721) was instrumental in introducing the smallpox
vaccine to New England. A new genre for American writers, the travel narrative, would become
especially influential late in the 1700s. Travel narratives include Travels Through the Interior Parts of
North America (1778) by Jonathan Carver and Travels Through North and South Carolina, Georgia,
East and West Florida, the Cherokee Country, etc (1791) by William Bartram . Travel stories often
blended observations on nature and landscape with tales of personal courage and achievement. The
first American newspaper, the Boston News Letter, was founded in 1704, and joined by the Boston
Gazette in 1719. At a time when newspaper journalism was concerned primarily with reporting
political events, the New England Courant, started by James Franklin in 1721, became the first
newspaper to include literary entertainment. Franklin s younger brother Benjamin Franklin published
humorous social commentary in the Courant under the pen name of Silence Dogwood . Magazines
also appeared for the first time in the colonies during the mid 1700s. Before 1800 magazines were
concerned primarily with measuring America s developing culture against the British model. During
the 1700s Boston and Philadelphia became centers of publishing in addition to being political and
commercial centers.

Tuscaloosa Federal Courthouse Essay
The Tuscaloosa Federal Courthouse was built in 2011 to replace the office styled federal building.
This new building mirrors the Greek revival styled widespread in government buildings in the United
States. This style was used to match the authority the style has come to represent and was inspired by
other Tuscaloosa buildings including the President s Mansion and the State Capitol. The building is
multipurpose by housing multiple courtrooms as well as several other government offices. Its
courthouse accommodates the District Court, the Bankruptcy Court, the Probation Office, the
Marshals Service, the Attorney s Office, congressional offices, the GSA, the SSA, and the FBI. The
design needed to be modular and large in scale in order to accomplish this. Its layout also needed to be

recent tornado that occurred while the courthouse was still being built. The local art is used as a

Alice In Wonderland Comparative Essay
Whether or not the adaptation of Tim Burton s Alice in Wonderland is more engaging than the original
novel by Lewis Carroll, both still use similar structural elements that set the reader/viewers mind on
the text at hand. The inclusion of a stronger plot provided by the visual text enhances the viewers
understanding, especially for a young audience. A way that Tim Burton s text is more engaging is that
children, being younger and less mature are more likely to be drawn to view a visual text that s much
simpler set of characters and be able to understand them better. On the other hand, Lewis Carroll s text
is also going to engage a younger audience with the inclusion of descriptive language. Children are

engage viewers equally. Similar structural elements such as an introduction, problem, solution and a
conclusion that contain similar content that would make both of them similarly engaging. Reason
being that because they have the similar events that fit into the same portions / sections that would
make the reader engaged. The visual aspects of both texts are what make each text complete as in the
written version of the book you have smaller picture that assist the conveyance of the story that is

Organization Value, And Core Values In The Volkswagen Company
As an employee or a manager in either the legal office or engineering department it would have rather
difficult to prevent this incident. I am not sure that you could have prevented it in its entirety. In order
to have prevented this incident you would need intimate knowledge of the operation and its people.
The company would have to only hire ethical people with a strong set of core values. A decision is
ethical if it satisfies certain commonly accepted measures of utility (e.g., greatest good for the largest
number), or commonly accepted measure of motive or duty (e.g., authenticity) (Jayaraman Min,
1993). There is no test that will truly tell you who someone is, only time. One has to find out, explore,
discover. Creative problem solving and anticipating unintended con sequences (Jayaraman Min, 1993)
This is why you could not have stopped what happened in Volkswagen. I believe there are steps that
could have been taken to mitigate the potential of an incident like this happening. Step one; create a
set of core values for the company. As the CEO you need to figure out what the employees and
company stand for. An organization sets these values through a collaborative process at all levels of
the company. Each and every person that is hired needs to believe in what they are doing. The reason
is so ever person has buy in into the company. When organization values and employee values merge
the outcome is devotion. Employees that are united under a set of core values

Examples Of Imperialism In The Movie Avatar
The following review will be about a movie named Avatar. Avatar dates back to 2009 and was directed
by James Cameron. The greediness of those in power will always results in the suffering of those lacks
power. This statement refers to the greediness that was depicted in the movie by the Resources
Development Administrators (RDA), which led to a forceful relocation of the Na Vi people. The
following essay will include the discussion of three anthropological themes that were displayed. The
first theme is the power of knowledge. Here I will discuss how knowledge was used against the NA Vi
people. The second theme is the notion of imperialism. The colonization of the Pandora will be
discussed under imperialism. The third theme is the notion of ethics. Under ethics I will discuss the
three main ethical principles that should be followed by every ethnographer.

Avatar displays a solid anti imperialism message. Imperialism occurs when a particular country
utilises their political and military powers to gain control over other areas of the world. According to
Alcock and Young, 1974 there are five categories of imperialism which are economic, cultural,
political, military, and communication. However, the movie Avatar exhibits two kinds of imperialism
which is military and economic imperialism. The Na Vi people are considered to be poor indigenous
people, while the RDA are technologically literate and rich. The RDA forcefully took over the
Pandora because they wanted to build a Unobtanium. A Unobtanium is a room temperature for energy.
The evidence of imperialism from the movie is displayed when the military force took down the tree
of voices. It is also displayed at the end of the movie where the battle between the people of
Omaticaya and other tribes and the military force occurred. This is when the home tree was also taken
down which forced the people of Omaticaya to

The Crux Research Paper
The Crux is more commonly known as the Southern Cross, its name being Latin for cross. Although it
was seen by the Ancient Greeks, it was known to be part of the constellation Centaurus. The stars that
make up the cross are: Alpha Crucis, Beta, Gamma, Delta and Epsilon. Quite a few of the
constellation s brighter stars are also members of the Centaurus / Scorpios association. The reason I
chose this constellation is because of its significance to my country. The Southern Cross is on the
national flag, and I have always wondered about the legends and reasons behind this constellation.
This constellation was, as mentioned above, part of Centaurus, so there was no traditional myth about
its creation. However, Crux was not separated as a singular constellation until 1516, by Italian
explorer Andreas Corsali. Quite derivatively, the Southern Cross (Crux) was named for its shape, and
the hemisphere that can see it. The Ancient Greeks once were able to see it, but over time it
disappeared over the horizon, so now the southern hemisphere can see it. ... Show more content on

later, Man held the wooden cross up to the moonlight. He spied a lone beast grazing in the grass a

The Growing Up Of A Refugee Camp
Moving to America was the biggest change in my life. Before, I know very little of this world and my
thoughts and opinion were very narrow. I did not have the best education and I think little about my
future since I lived in a refugee camp. I also could not open myself up to people of different
background because of the lack of diversity while living in the camp. But moving to America I was
introduced with a new culture, education, and diversity that changes my life and my views.
Before I moved to America I lived in a Thailand refugee camp called Mae La. Growing up in Mae La
camp there was not a lot of diversity since most people who live there were Karen people. All my
neighbor were Karen, therefore I was not close to people of different background or people with
different ethnicity. I could not open up to them easily since I only speak Karen language. I was more
comfortable with the Karen people too since I know mostly Karen people and my school was full of
Karen kids. I went to a mission school in Mae la and the school in Mae La refugee camp was not well
made like the one in US, it was made of bamboo and there was no floor. Mae La also have a poor
education system so many Karen student including myself did not get a full advance education like the
one in America. Since I was still a kid when I lived in Mae La camp, I did not know about the struggle
of living in refugee camp.

Aesir Research Paper
LITERARY BACKGROUNDS AND TERMINOLOGIES The primary texts are derived from two
major sources of Scandinavian mythology: the Elder Edda (Poetic Edda) and the Younger Edda (Prose
Edda). As the name suggests, the former contains some old materials composed as early as the 10th
and 11th centuries, including Völuspá (The Seeress s Prophecy), Thrymskvida (Thyrm s Poem), and
Lokasenna (Loki s Quarrel). While the authors of the Elder remains unknown, the Younger is written
by the Icelandic historian, poet, and politician Snorri Sturluson around A.D. 1220. Both texts are
related in a way that Sturluson cited various contents from the Elder to produce the Younger (von

also a figure who proves his competence to solve problems for them (Lindow, 2002, pp. 217; von

hammer from the giant Thrym. To get back the hammer, Loki sets foot in Jötunheimr, where he
negotiates with Thrym, who demands the goddess Freyja to be his wife as an exchange. However,
when Freyja refuses, much to the annoyance of Thor, he has to pretend by dressing up as her. When
Thor complains, Loki scolds him and says, be quite, Thor, ... / The giant will be settling in Asgard /
unless you get your hammer back (Larrington, 2008, pp. 99). Here, Loki s warning indicates his
allegiance to the Aesir over the giants. Interestingly, being notoriously known for his short temper,
Thor does not lash out against Loki when he orders him to be quite. In fact, Thor willingly obeys his
request because Thor senses the truth that without the hammer, the safety of Asgard will be
jeopardized. With the help of Loki, Thor manages to get back his hammer in the end. This story
demonstrates how much the Aesir trust Loki so that they make him as their travel companion, whom

Inside Rap Music Essay
Inside Rap Music
Music, like mass media and television, has such a powerful influence on our society. People think rap
music is very negative towards society, which is not the case. Rappers teach people about possible
consequences a person may encounter if they choose the same route. Rappers tell their life experience
through their songs. Rap music does not influence violence; it educates people on what is going on in
the lives of urban people. When someone mentions rap music, the first thing some people think is
violence, sex, and drugs, negative, and worthless music. There are a number of rappers that do and sell
drugs, live the crime life, and do jail time. The message that rappers send to their listeners is the

crime, and how he spent most of his life burying his peers. In a son call Smile he tells the listeners to,

The moral of the song was that if a person lives that lifestyle the out come could be death. Rap music
is a form of poetry and story telling. An article by Errol A. Henderson, describes a rapper as a poet

In the poem of The Passionate Shepherd, this poem is containing to about happiness and living a nice

because the first stories show that it has more happiness and the other one did, and you can see which
one has more happiness and joy. In this two poems the first poem is talking about how nature and
theme were of the poem. The theme of the first poem was exciting and happy and loving, all because
of nature it was the end. Such like it took place in the middle of spring and spring represents blooming
flowers and sunny weather and the atmosphere is joyful all the way through. Also with the poem being
good as it is it gave a happy ending at the end of the poem. The story Nymphs was like the first poem
but different. The poem nymph s theme and nature were opposite in this poem it was cold and
snowing and just a dreadful night skies look. I think the snow in this poem represents cold hearted and
not happy as much and dreading as time goes on in the poem. Also the reason i think the second poem
is dreading because snow symbolizes cold but spring symbolizes warm.
This is the third paragraph in and this paragraph I am going to be talking about the similarities. The
similarities in the poems are there both containing to love but which one shows the most love. One
poem shows the perfection of life and is warm hearted and sunny and happy. That poem shows that
everyone is happy

A Comparison Of Malcolm X Vs. Martin Luther King Jr.
The Civil Rights movement in the 1960 s birthed the most prominent figures in the battle against
racism in the United States. Malcolm X and Martin Luther King Jr. are immortalized as the men who
stood up and spoke out during the most crucial time in US History for African American activism.
Though often brought up in the same vein, the two had complete opposite ideology about how to
reach equality. Their influence created many prominent groups in the 60s against mistreatment of
African Americans, including the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC). According to
the name of this group, they were a nonviolent team of young black activists that stemmed from MLK
s Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC). Apparent in their name, they shared the same
peaceful approach as MLK, but over time and as the hardships of the movement began to callous the
young group they shifted towards the by any means necessary approach of Malcolm X. Through the
excerpts in Takin it to the Streets, one can see the stark difference between Malcolm X s more
aggressive approach, MLK s loving approach, and the SNCC shifting its views over time but always
maintaining a steadfast commitment to the cause and a youthful bravado. Martin Luther King Jr. is a
household name. He became a martyr, known for exclusively preaching about love and dreams of
equality. MLK was impassioned and eloquent and palatable enough for white people. He never
wavered from the idea that the resolution to

Functionalism In Sociological Discipline
Sociological theories are the core and underlying strength of sociological discipline (Hammond,
Thompson and Hickey, 2004).Theories are concepts and ideas that have been tested and combined to
give a set of ideas and explanations for people s thoughts and behaviours. Functionalism is one of the
oldest and most established theories in sociology. Functionalism is a top down theory. Individuals are
born into society and become the product of all the social influences around them , these are the
institutions such as the criminal justice system, education, family and religion (Trueman, 2015).
Postmodernism is a sociological theory that was founded in the late 20th century founded by
Baudrillard and Lyotard (Locher, 2015). Functionalists and postmodernists have contrasting opinions
on the social world around us and using religion as a reference to contemporary society is going to
outline the main differences between both theories. Religion has been a ... Show more content on

Functionalism is a consensus theory . (Painter and Zarifi, 2013)Functionalists presume that society has
agreed on norms and values which allow it function smoothly. Functionalists compare society to the
human body, for the body to function correctly all the parts have to work together in harmony; this is
similar to society where each institution is needed for it to function to its full potential. Durkheim s
view of society considers it as made up of different institutions, each of which has a specific function
in society. These institutions are used to internalise norms and values to create a collective
consciousness of society (Parsons, 2010, pg.2) for example, the family has the function of primary
socialisation of children. Gramsci criticises functionalist

Texas Instruments in South Korea
Texas Instruments in South Korea Understanding a target market s needs and desires can assist
companies with tailoring their offerings in the name of profit. Texas Instruments (TI) had been
business since 1930. During this time they have reinvented their offerings to remain a viable business
entity throughout the decades. Their ability to stay ahead of the change curve has translated into a
current market cap value of approximately $47 billion ( Yahoo finance, 2014). Whether it is
calculators, semiconductors, software or education materials TI has been able to continually
transformed itself using a strategy predicated on risk taking and innovation ( Texas instruments, 2014).
It is this culture of risk taking that has TI ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This could lead to missed opportunities. The formal institutions are represented by regulations, rules
or bylaws that can be readily researched. Within a new country TI must account for the South Korean
government and the educational branch. Government rules and requirements for operating within the
country need to be understood prior to dealing with local businesses. Failure to understand these
barriers to entry can limit a firm s ability to conduct business within the desired country of operations.
The informal institutions can be more difficult to research. To account for this TI can identify and hire
experts to assist with acquiring the informal knowledge. Informal institutions represent the norms,
cultures and ethics when dealing with societies. Without a solid understanding of cultural norms or
expectations, TI s business proposition can offend. A main informal challenge for TI is the regionalism
that exists. South Korea can be dissected into two distinct regions the Kyongsang Province (southeast)
and Cholla Province (southwest). Both regions have distinct differences ( Culture of south, 2014).
Another informal consideration surrounds gender status. Although South Korea s constitution
stipulates men and women as equals the ideology practiced is one of male superiority ( Culture of
south, 2014). This

The Arguments Against School Uniforms By Michelle Kouzmine
I hate my uniform! is what every child who is required to wear a uniform would say. What students
don t realize is that there are more pros than cons when it comes to uniforms. Uniforms discipline
students to be more respectful as well as obedient. I believe that uniforms provide students with a
sense of pride, security and focus. In The Arguments Against School Uniforms by Michelle Kouzmine
it states that some people believe school uniforms lower distraction, improve focus, and make the
environment more serious. This is especially true when uniforms are strict and require every student to
follow a school s uniform policy otherwise punishments are issued. Uniforms also prevent social
arguments and statuses. Some schools that don t issue ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Though self expression may seem good, it can lead to bullying and other social arguments. In the
article What s the point of school uniform by Chloe Spencer, it states that students argue that they lose
their self identity and right to express themselves due to uniforms. Many schools have different
cliques and the root cause of them is self expression. When students express themselves through
clothing, they can be picked on by other students. However, if everyone was dressed in the same type
of clothing, stereotyping would be a difficult task. Non uniform clothing can make students aware of
ones social and economic status. This leads to bullying which can include mental and physical harm.
In the article What s the point of school uniform by Chloe Spencer, it states that nearly 160,000
students miss school every day due to the fear that they will be attacked or be intimidated by other
students. This can be prevented solely by enforcing uniforms in all schools. Not only will uniforms
prevent bullying but will stop the stress of social statuses for

Ancient Greek Myth Of King Midas And The Golden Touch
Ancient Greek architecture is one of the most fascinating learning experiences to exist. You can learn
so much from it including their life style because of the patterns on the temples and pottery they
created. One text that explains their architecture is Ancient Greek Art which tells the reader the
material they used and why. Another passage is the myth of King Midas and the Golden Touch . This
myth is about a king who gets greedy and wants everything gold, however it does not work out when
he turns his daughter gold. He realizes that beuty isn t everything and the original castle was unique
like other Ancient Greek Architectures that have been ruined or broken down. What we can learn from
this is how wealthy the community was by the material

Factors That Influence A Nation s Willingness Enter Into...
There are many factors that influence a nation s willingness to enter into Trade Agreements. Briefly
outline the basic models discussed in the readings and class (Heckscher Ohlin and Ricardo Viner).
Discuss what factors influence domestic trade preferences (Political, Economic, Sociotropic, etc.).
According to the article, the hypothesis of Heckscher Ohlin model or factor endowments is that all
factors of production within a country are mobile across sectors, that markets are perfectly
competitive, and that there are constant returns to scale in production (Mansfield Mutz, 427). Beyond
that, another assumption of Heckscher Ohlin model or factor endowments is critical is that factors of
production can move quickly and easily from one sector to another (Mansfield Mutz, 428). In my
opinion, one thing can be very easy to see that skill is the most important factor which can gain more
benefits from open trade. Briefly, for a country, the more advanced technology you have the more you
can get from open trade, for example, America can gain more benefits than China because of highly
skilled individuals will benefit economically from open trade (Mansfield Mutz, 451) The second
model Ricardo Viner which is a special factor that is not a unique factor affect open trade, it
emphasizes an individual works will affect trade preferences and it posits that trade preferences
depend on the industry in which a person works (Mansfield Mutz, 425). This special factor will make

The Competitive Advantage of Tyson Foods
Competitive Advantage:
The competitive advantage that Tyson Foods Inc. holds is the large size of the company and its brand
equity. As was mentioned before, the amount of market share that Tyson has been able to maintain
gives the company an edge over the competition. The fact that Tyson supplied meat products to large
franchises such as McDonalds and KFC gives the meat processor stable profits. Brand equity has also
strengthened Tyson s ability to compete in the foods industry. Advertising and promotion expenses for
fiscal 2013, 2012 and 2011 were $555 million, $496 million and $552 million, respectively. The Tyson
brand is well known in the United States and this helps keep the demand for its products high.
ADM s competitive advantage is the fact that it is able to reduce fixed cost by large scale production,
known as economies of scale. The company has manufacturing, distribution, and sales facilities
located in the U.S., Canada, Africa, Europe, Asia, and Latin America. Since ADM has all of these
locations around the world, it has the capacity and capability to produce its products in massive
quantities. Cost per unit is lowered by spreading fixed costs across a larger product base and this
allows ADM to be price competitive within the industry.
Cost leadership is also an important key to success in any commodity industry since it is one of few
areas where any true profit can be squeezed out of markets defined by undifferentiated products. ADM
s vertical integration

The Harlem Renaissance was very empowering time of the 1920 s. It was the uprising of black
culture, i.e. jazz, art, books, poetry, etc... Zora Neal Hurston captures a lot of the Harlem aspects in her
books; today we are going to be discussing and analyzing her book Their Eyes Were Watching God .
The plot of this book is very similar to the hurricane settled on by many as the front cover examined in
the book. Throughout the book Zora Neal Hurston hits on the idea of oppression and the seeking of
freedom. Janie the protagonist was treated fairly well although she was black. She did not have to face
the same trials and tribulations as a typical black person back then. Janie gets the respect and a role in

result, the farmer would rather give the water to the oxen than give the wasps and the partridges who

and the partridges, can be seen everywhere. For example, among students, this action is prominent.

The theoretical framework I develop rests on the...
The theoretical framework I develop rests on the assumption that individuals are rational actors
insofar as they calculate and act to maximize their expected utilities. An illustration of this assumption
is found when the expected utility of continuing a war is outweighed by the expected utility of war
termination. When the expected costs of continuing a war exceed the expected benefits, the relevant
actors will begin to press for peace. I further assume that leaders act to maximize their chances of
retaining office and that they are accountable to a domestic audience. The composition and
preferences of this domestic audience varies systematically across regime type, as does their ability to
credibly deter the leader. This has important ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The volume and intensity of conflict drive the rate at which these costs accrue. They may vary
intermittently in a smoldering dispute or accumulate more quickly in open conflict. Regardless of this
rate, I assume the longer a war continues, the more costs will mount, and the more likely that one side
will begin to press for a settlement. While some will oppose or support a conflict regardless of the
human or economic cost, most determine their support by paying particular attention to these wartime
losses. Both a leader and their domestic audience will calculate their expected utilities and update their
expectations by observing these outcomes. More important to consider is the point at which the
anticipated benefits of continued conflict is outweighed by the anticipated costs of terminating conflict
for a leader s domestic audience.
Remembering that a leader acts to maximize their chances of retaining office and that they are
ultimately held accountable to a domestic audience, the demands of a domestic audience unsatisfied
with the costs of war is important to consider in the ability of states to wage extended wars. This cost
sensitivity argument has typically underpinned empirical observations on the tendency of democracies
to fight uniformly shorter wars. Autocratic leaders, it was argued, do not labor under such restraints

Alfred F. Young s The Shoemaker And The Revolution
Alfred F. Young wrote The Shoemaker and the Revolution to explain how a regular citizen could
become such an active participant in the American Revolution. He explores one citizen in particular,
the shoemaker George Robert Twelves Hewes, and how he went from a young, nervous boy to a
patriot that stood up for what he believed. Young describes that this transformation can be explained
by participation in events that inspired the revolution the Boston Massacre, the Boston tea Party, and
the tarring and feathering of John Malcolm. The first event that began to shape the man that Hewes
would become was the Boston Massacre in March of 1770. He also had several altercations with
British troops before the Massacre that would negatively affect ... Show more content on

These include a bias when commenting on the Boston Massacre, the ill explanations of the Quartering
Acts or the Tea Act which are major direct causes to the events discussed, and the fact that the articles
only focusses on events that occurred in Boston. When explaining the second point of this article
Young states that The soldiers were beaten and sought revenge. (par. 7). This implies that the British
soldiers were looking for a fight on the night of the massacre. This a type of propaganda that was
commonly used in this era to demonize the soldiers acts even though it was most likely just an
accidental shooting. Another major weakness the Young exudes hoe he fails to mention important
causes of the Boston Massacre and the Boston Tea Party. The Quartering Act was issued by Parliament
to decrease the cost of holding troops in America and forced the colonists to house troops and pay for
all of their accommodations. This information would be helpful in describing the events that led up to
the Boston Massacre. Another fact that would aid the reader s understanding of the cause of an event
would be to explain the Tea Act, as this was the most direct cause to the Boston Tea Party. This act
was in place to undercut Dutch smugglers and force the American colonists to buy tea from Britain
directly. This angered the colonists and led to the refusal to unload tea in the Boston

  • 2. Employment Of A Vital Labor And Employment Law A vital labor and employment law is the Age Discrimination in Employment Act, also known as the ADEA. The law was enacted in 1967 and later amended. On the Unites States EEOC website, they write, ADEA protects individuals who are 40 years of age or older from employment discrimination based on age. (The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, 2008) The law is meant to safeguard workers from being discriminated against due to their age. The law is especially important now with workers staying on the job longer and retirees returning to the workforce after retirement. The EEOC states, The law applies to employers with 20 or more employees, including state and local governments. It also applies to employment agencies and labor organizations, as well as to the federal government. (The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, 2008) Age discrimination can come in many forms in the business world. First, employment advertisements brings the attention of work seeking people. An employer can use certain words in their employment advertisements that can keep older workers from applying to the job, as an example: young, recent college graduate, youthful, and etc. An employer using these words can open them to discrimination lawsuits. Similarly, in an article from the Seattle Times which list five of the biggest legal missteps Human Resources can make, they write, The hiring process: Mistakes in this area often start right at the beginning, with discriminatory ... • 3. The Book Of Numbers 22-24 By Calvin Seerveld Essay In the book of Numbers 22 24, we get a very odd story. A story of a man, angels, a talking donkey, curses and more! The author also wants to find out how this can help us understand more of the Bible and Israel. He does this by going through the passage and giving us different ways of approaching the text. The author is critiquing the approaches to help the reader understand the good and the bad of each. The author, Calvin Seerveld gives us a good, in depth study of this passage. In this paper, I will give a summary of what Seerveld is saying on this passage. Seerveld starts off his book by giving an overview of what the biblical story is about and then moves on to the anemones/strange things of this story. There are many strange things which require us to look deeper in the text. At first, it looks like God changes his mind often and being difficult. There are other small things that seem odd to the story. There are some issues with the way the character travels, the elders are mentioned in the beginning of the story, then not heard from again, some repetitious statements and other things. However, it is important to note the story floated around orally for many years and there were different variations of the story. It took a long time before they were all written down into a story. In fact, Seerveld argues the third and fourth oracles were written before the time of Solomon and his kingdom was divided. The first two oracles were not composed until the late 7th century ... • 4. Conspiracy Theories Around 9-11 The worst terrorist attack in U.S history occurred on September 11, 2001. According to U.S government officials, nineteen men hijacked four fuel loaded commercial planes with the intent to destroy the World Trade Center in New York City, as well as both the Pentagon and the White House in Washington D.C. The attacks began at 8:46am ET when American Airline s Flight 11 struck the North tower of the World Trade Center, causing chaos on the streets below. Not even twenty minutes later, another commercial plane, United Airlines Flight 175, struck the south tower. Americans and people all over the world watched helplessly as the action on the East Coast unfolded. Any American old enough to remember can most likely tell you exactly where he or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One MSNBC reporter, who was actually inside the north tower after the plane struck, stated I heard a second explosion...And then a fire marshal came in and said we had to leave, because if there was a third explosion this building might not last (Bombs and Explosions in the WTC 1). This quote not only tells us that there was a possible explosion inside the World Trade Center, but that there seem to have been more than one. If the collapse of the towers really was a controlled demolition as it looked like to many, this would mean that a lot of premeditated work to place explosives would have had to occur. Seeing as very few people have access to every place of the World Trade Center, it does seem likely that some government cooperation would have been needed to make it happen. Many researchers claim that the explosions heard in and around the World Trade Center could have been from exploding electrical transformers. They say that the heat from the fire was too much for the transformers and caused explosions throughout the building. Author of George Washington s Blog had this to say about the topic: Well, if exploding transformers caused these sounds and the collapse of the Twin Towers, why didn t we hear the same things and see the collapse of the buildings in Madrid, Venezuela, Los Angeles and elsewhere which burned hotter and ... • 5. What Is The Theme Of Sexualism In The Eve Of St Agnes By... Pre Raphaelite art was a movement was born of poetry, English Romanti cism texts inspired the young artists of the Brotherhood. The first of these texts The Eve of St Agnes, a poem by John Keats and key text from Romanticism that served as inspiration for John Everett Millais and William Holman Hunt and spawned the dawn of the Pre Raphaelite Brotherhood. A romantic tale of elopement and awakening sexuality, young Porphyro hides in Madeline s bed chamber, Even to Madeline s chamber, and there hide Him in a closet, of such privacy that he might see her beauty unespied, And win perhaps that night a peerless bride, While legion d faires pac d the coverlet, And pale enchantment held her sleepy eyed. Another version of this tale by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The name Pre Raphaelite came from their opposition of the academy s promotion of the Renaissance painter Raphael. Other inspirations came from art critic John Ruskin s encouragement to go to nature , believing art to be a serious subject that should be treated with maximum realism and truth. The principal philosophies of their movement were primarily religious, but would often draw inspiration from texts and literature, particularly those associated with death and love. In their paintings, the Brotherhood created an entirely new manner of presenting human anatomy by imbuing their depictions of men and women with medieval and spiritual ideas in which they were so captivated. Its original members; John Everett Millais, William Holman Hunt and Dante Gabriel Rosetti s work became heavily influential after great opposition at the beginning, and a second phase of the movement occurred at around 1860 with particular works ¬¬¬¬majorly influencing the succeeding Symbolism movement. After a 1984 exhibition of the Pre Raphaelite s works at the Tate Gallery, a shift in the interpretation of their work took place. Instead, analysis grew upon the subject of gender and sexuality when it came to light the relationships between the artistic work and the circumstances of its creation. Priorities over the attitudes concerning women that thought of them as either devilish femme fatale s or virtuous illuminated the limited ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Societal Norms In Boys And Girls By Alice Munro In today s world there are many ideologies that women are set to follow but that are also easy to break through. As society progresses, people have to adjust to new societal norms. The story, Boys and Girls by Alice Munro is about an 11 year old girl who lives in a fox breeding farm, alongside her parents and siblings. The whole point of breeding the foxes is to be able to kill them and later skin them but the horses they own are killed in order to feed and bulk up the foxes. This is an everyday routine for the little girl, who takes pride in helping out her father with outdoor chores. She takes it as a compliment and blushes when her father introduces her as his hired man since it is something she prefers doing over house work. She dreads ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The story, Boys and Girls states As soon as I was done I ran out of, trying to get out of earshot before my mother thought of what she wanted me to do next (Munro 156). It shows a wide example of how gender roles are strictly implied in this household and how the little girl tries to avoid it as much as possible. The story follows between the lines between a woman being fragile and catering to men, and men not breaking and providing for the family. The feminist theory widely connects to the story because it gives an insight of the issue of the typical gender roles and what big of an impact it makes when they are not followed. According to the article Gender Inequality in the Home, by authors Janell Fetterolf and Lauren Rudman Despite women s increased presence and status in the workforce, there is still a disparity in domestic labor that disadvantages women (Fetterolf 220). It proves a critical point that women will always be set to gender role standards that they are expected to follow. The 11 year old girl struggles with wanting to be out with her father but still having to take responsibility for the tasks that are imposed and meant for her. According to the story, the girl s father introduced her as his, new hired man. I turned away and raked furiously, red in the face with pleasure (Munro 155). It seems as though she takes much pride in being seen as masculine figure, rather than being portrayed in the norm of a fragile good girl who is supposed to be at home doing housework. In the article, Feminism as Critique in a Neoliberal Age it states, This imputed gender subtext proved to be increasingly counterfactual with only a very small proportion of the population conforming to a normative dualistic model of separate masculine and feminine ... • 8. Impact Of The United Kingdom On Britain s Current Issues... With the United Kingdom being the 3rd European country with the highest GDP it is rather difficult to assume that issues such as negative economic growth, rising unemployment (Mooney and Scott, 2012) and consequently poverty would have any magnitude in its territory. However poverty does appear to be an issue in Scotland, even though it contributes as the 2nd largest percentage on UK s GVA (7.7% ONS, 2012). With the acceptance of the referendum Scotland was aiming for independence and therefore taking in its own hands decision making regarding sectors such as the economic one by prioritizing and making the right decisions in order to tackle issues such as that of poverty. After September 18th 2014 economic changes concerning currency, unemployment and natural resources would have an impact on Scotland s current issues regarding poverty. An issue that has been in Scotland s economic agenda afore the economic crisis of 2008/09 is poverty despite the fact that Scotland s economy was growing steadily until 2007 (McKendrick, J., et al. 2011). By 2013 Scotland had a greater relative poverty rate than the UK with 16% , which is an increase since 2007 when the case was in reverse positions. These statistics indicate an adverse development in Scotland s relative poverty rates over the past eight years to which economic factors come from both macroeconomic as well as microeconomic spectrums. It has been a great evolution to come from tribal symbols and drawings to today s Stephen King and Danielle Steele. The earliest form of literature in what would one day be known as America were far from what modern day people would consider Literature . Mather s rewarding career included writings on science and medicine as well as theology and history. His Sentiments on the Small Pox Inoculated (1721) was instrumental in introducing the smallpox vaccine to New England. A new genre for American writers, the travel narrative, would become especially influential late in the 1700s. Travel narratives include Travels Through the Interior Parts of North America (1778) by Jonathan Carver and Travels Through North and South Carolina, Georgia, East and West Florida, the Cherokee Country, etc (1791) by William Bartram . Travel stories often blended observations on nature and landscape with tales of personal courage and achievement. The first American newspaper, the Boston News Letter, was founded in 1704, and joined by the Boston Gazette in 1719. At a time when newspaper journalism was concerned primarily with reporting political events, the New England Courant, started by James Franklin in 1721, became the first newspaper to include literary entertainment. Franklin s younger brother Benjamin Franklin published humorous social commentary in the Courant under the pen name of Silence Dogwood . Magazines also appeared for the first time in the colonies during the mid 1700s. Before 1800 magazines were concerned primarily with measuring America s developing culture against the British model. • 10. Tuscaloosa Federal Courthouse Essay The Tuscaloosa Federal Courthouse was built in 2011 to replace the office styled federal building. This new building mirrors the Greek revival styled widespread in government buildings in the United States. This style was used to match the authority the style has come to represent and was inspired by other Tuscaloosa buildings including the President s Mansion and the State Capitol. The building is multipurpose by housing multiple courtrooms as well as several other government offices. Alice In Wonderland Comparative Essay Whether or not the adaptation of Tim Burton s Alice in Wonderland is more engaging than the original novel by Lewis Carroll, both still use similar structural elements that set the reader/viewers mind on the text at hand. The inclusion of a stronger plot provided by the visual text enhances the viewers understanding, especially for a young audience. A way that Tim Burton s text is more engaging is that children, being younger and less mature are more likely to be drawn to view a visual text that s much simpler set of characters and be able to understand them better. On the other hand, Lewis Carroll s text is also going to engage a younger audience with the inclusion of descriptive language. Children are more likely to be drawn to and stay ... Organization Value, And Core Values In The Volkswagen Company As an employee or a manager in either the legal office or engineering department it would have rather difficult to prevent this incident. I am not sure that you could have prevented it in its entirety. In order to have prevented this incident you would need intimate knowledge of the operation and its people. The company would have to only hire ethical people with a strong set of core values. A decision is ethical if it satisfies certain commonly accepted measures of utility (e.g., greatest good for the largest number), or commonly accepted measure of motive or duty (e.g., authenticity) (Jayaraman Min, 1993). There is no test that will truly tell you who someone is, only time. One has to find out, explore, discover. Creative problem solving and anticipating unintended con sequences (Jayaraman Min, 1993) This is why you could not have stopped what happened in Volkswagen. I believe there are steps that could have been taken to mitigate the potential of an incident like this happening. Step one; create a set of core values for the company. As the CEO you need to figure out what the employees and company stand for. An organization sets these values through a collaborative process at all levels of the company. Each and every person that is hired needs to believe in what they are doing. The reason is so ever person has buy in into the company. Imperialism occurs when a particular country utilises their political and military powers to gain control over other areas of the world. According to Alcock and Young, 1974 there are five categories of imperialism which are economic, cultural, political, military, and communication. However, the movie Avatar exhibits two kinds of imperialism which is military and economic imperialism. The Na Vi people are considered to be poor indigenous people, while the RDA are technologically literate and rich. The RDA forcefully took over the Pandora because they wanted to build a Unobtanium. A Unobtanium is a room temperature for energy. The evidence of imperialism from the movie is displayed when the military force took down the tree of voices. Although it was seen by the Ancient Greeks, it was known to be part of the constellation Centaurus. The stars that make up the cross are: Alpha Crucis, Beta, Gamma, Delta and Epsilon. Quite a few of the constellation s brighter stars are also members of the Centaurus / Scorpios association. The reason I chose this constellation is because of its significance to my country. The Southern Cross is on the national flag, and I have always wondered about the legends and reasons behind this constellation. This constellation was, as mentioned above, part of Centaurus, so there was no traditional myth about its creation. However, Crux was not separated as a singular constellation until 1516, by Italian explorer Andreas Corsali. Quite derivatively, the Southern Cross (Crux) was named for its shape, and the hemisphere that can see it. The Ancient Greeks once were able to see it, but over time it disappeared over the horizon, so now the southern hemisphere can see it. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I also could not open myself up to people of different background because of the lack of diversity while living in the camp. • 17. Aesir Research Paper LITERARY BACKGROUNDS AND TERMINOLOGIES The primary texts are derived from two major sources of Scandinavian mythology: the Elder Edda (Poetic Edda) and the Younger Edda (Prose Edda). As the name suggests, the former contains some old materials composed as early as the 10th and 11th centuries, including Völuspá (The Seeress s Prophecy), Thrymskvida (Thyrm s Poem), and Lokasenna (Loki s Quarrel). While the authors of the Elder remains unknown, the Younger is written by the Icelandic historian, poet, and politician Snorri Sturluson around A.D. 1220. In Thrymskvida, the author recounts a story about the recovery of Thor s hammer from the giant Thrym. To get back the hammer, Loki sets foot in Jötunheimr, where he negotiates with Thrym, who demands the goddess Freyja to be his wife as an exchange. However, when Freyja refuses, much to the annoyance of Thor, he has to pretend by dressing up as her. When Thor complains, Loki scolds him and says, be quite, Thor, ... / The giant will be settling in Asgard / unless you get your hammer back (Larrington, 2008, pp. 99). Here, Loki s warning indicates his allegiance to the Aesir over the giants. Interestingly, being notoriously known for his short temper, Thor does not lash out against Loki when he orders him to be quite. In fact, Thor willingly obeys his request because Thor senses the truth that without the hammer, the safety of Asgard will be jeopardized. With the help of Loki, Thor manages to get back his hammer in the end. People think rap music is very negative towards society, which is not the case. Rappers teach people about possible consequences a person may encounter if they choose the same route. Malcolm X and Martin Luther King Jr. are immortalized as the men who stood up and spoke out during the most crucial time in US History for African American activism. Though often brought up in the same vein, the two had complete opposite ideology about how to reach equality. Their influence created many prominent groups in the 60s against mistreatment of African Americans, including the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC). According to the name of this group, they were a nonviolent team of young black activists that stemmed from MLK s Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC). Apparent in their name, they shared the same peaceful approach as MLK, but over time and as the hardships of the movement began to callous the young group they shifted towards the by any means necessary approach of Malcolm X. Through the excerpts in Takin it to the Streets, one can see the stark difference between Malcolm X s more aggressive approach, MLK s loving approach, and the SNCC shifting its views over time but always maintaining a steadfast commitment to the cause and a youthful bravado. Briefly outline the basic models discussed in the readings and class (Heckscher Ohlin and Ricardo Viner). Discuss what factors influence domestic trade preferences (Political, Economic, Sociotropic, etc.). According to the article, the hypothesis of Heckscher Ohlin model or factor endowments is that all factors of production within a country are mobile across sectors, that markets are perfectly competitive, and that there are constant returns to scale in production (Mansfield Mutz, 427). Beyond that, another assumption of Heckscher Ohlin model or factor endowments is critical is that factors of production can move quickly and easily from one sector to another (Mansfield Mutz, 428). As was mentioned before, the amount of market share that Tyson has been able to maintain gives the company an edge over the competition. The fact that Tyson supplied meat products to large franchises such as McDonalds and KFC gives the meat processor stable profits. Brand equity has also strengthened Tyson s ability to compete in the foods industry. Advertising and promotion expenses for fiscal 2013, 2012 and 2011 were $555 million, $496 million and $552 million, respectively. The Tyson brand is well known in the United States and this helps keep the demand for its products high. The company has manufacturing, distribution, and sales facilities located in the U.S., Canada, Africa, Europe, Asia, and Latin America. Since ADM has all of these locations around the world, it has the capacity and capability to produce its products in massive quantities. Cost per unit is lowered by spreading fixed costs across a larger product base and this allows ADM to be price competitive within the industry. The theoretical framework I develop rests on the assumption that individuals are rational actors insofar as they calculate and act to maximize their expected utilities. An illustration of this assumption is found when the expected utility of continuing a war is outweighed by the expected utility of war termination. When the expected costs of continuing a war exceed the expected benefits, the relevant actors will begin to press for peace. The composition and preferences of this domestic audience varies systematically across regime type, as does their ability to credibly deter the leader. This has important ... They may vary intermittently in a smoldering dispute or accumulate more quickly in open conflict. Regardless of this rate, I assume the longer a war continues, the more costs will mount, and the more likely that one side will begin to press for a settlement. While some will oppose or support a conflict regardless of the human or economic cost, most determine their support by paying particular attention to these wartime losses. Both a leader and their domestic audience will calculate their expected utilities and update their expectations by observing these outcomes. More important to consider is the point at which the anticipated benefits of continued conflict is outweighed by the anticipated costs of terminating conflict for a leader s domestic audience. Remembering that a leader acts to maximize their chances of retaining office and that they are ultimately held accountable to a domestic audience, the demands of a domestic audience unsatisfied with the costs of war is important to consider in the ability of states to wage extended wars.
