Essay about Marketing Research Tools
Market Research Tools
An organizational problem must be identified prior to beginning the market research process. In
most cases, a problem is a research opportunity for product improvement or the launch of a new
product. The first critical step of the marketing process involves how the research problem is
defined by specifying the research objectives; identifying the consumer population of interest, and
placing the problem in an environmental context. The very next step is to determine the research
design that involves whether or not primary or secondary data is available or required. Marketers
must collect the information and determine the type of study required before they can move on .
Primary Data
Primary data is research ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Cross sectional designs involve the systematic collection of responses to a consumer survey
instrument from one or more samples of respondents at one point in time. Also use the descriptive
research investigations. Casual research understands cause and effect relationships, which is
generally used by marketers when there has been a change. Independent variables and the outcome
dependent variables are the cause of such change.
Secondary Data
Secondary data, if available saves time and money because the expense of the study has already
been incurred. The internal data found in the company s reports are previous company research
studies, feedback from customers, salespeople, stores, and feedback from longtime employees.
External data reports from syndicated research firms sell the research information to advertising
agencies, and marketers. This type of data has already been collected for some purpose other than
the problem at hand.
The unique difference between primary and secondary research is the marketer s ability to answer
specific questions to seize organizations opportunities, which requires heavy budget projections and
time. Data collected as secondary research provides massive data compiled and made available to
anyone through syndicated research, government sources, and published research. Opposite to
gathering data already collected as primary data and tested.

Abigail Adams Thesis Statement
Abigail Adams played a very prestigious role in the history of the United States of America, as
she was the wife of John Adams, the 6th president of the United States. She also played an
important role in the society of women and their rights as residents of our country. But let s go
back to the beginning of her story the very beginning. It all began when Abigail was born on
November 11th, 1744, as the daughter of a minister. This was before she had the last name of
Adams; her maiden name was Abigail Smith. She grew up with her mother and father, Elizabeth
Smith and William QuincySmith, in Weymouth, Massachusetts. As a child, she was very sickly, so
her parents did not put her through formal schooling. Instead, they homeschooled her where they
taught her how to read and write. She grew to be a very open minded and well read young lady
who had a deep passion for books. When she turned 15, she met an older man by the name of John
Adams, who was 27. They were actually 3rd cousins, but they fell into a love so deep that they
decided to marry. They married on October 25th, 1764, when she was 19 and he was 30. This
brought the two into adulthood, into a life that required a lot more work and included several
bumps in throughout journey. By this time, they lived together, still in Massachusetts, but John s
job as a politician kept him away from home quite often. They wrote letters back and forth
constantly, reporting to each other about current situations happening

Lamuel Gulliver Essays
Lamuel Gulliver
Jonathan Swift is one of the best known satirists in the history of literature. When one reads his
works, especially something like Gulliver s Travels, it is easy for one to spot the misanthropic
themes, which emerge within his characterization. Lamuel Gulliver is an excellent protagonist: a
keen observer, and a good representative of his native England, but one who loses faith in mankind
as his story progresses. He ends up in remote areas of the world all by accidents in his voyages. In
each trip, he is shipwrecked and mysteriously arrives to lands never before seen by men. This forms
an interesting rhythm in the novel: as Gulliver is given more and more responsibility, he tends to be

Gulliver is a good representative of England, but one who loses faith in mankind as the story
progresses. The visit to Brobdingnag accounts for most of this misery, where he attempts to
preserve his dignity as an English man. Gulliver becomes exactly the controversial figure of what
he was in Lilliput. In this case, the Brobdingnagians remain peaceful with him, yet he is prideful.
The flag of Gulliver s homeland, England, on the coat of arms illustrates pride.
Yet due to his pride for his native England, in the country of the Houyhnhnms, Gulliver is
gradually driven mad by his realization that he can never hope to achieve the state of existence of
the supremely rational, noble Houyhnhnms. Even though the Houyhnhnms consider Gulliver to be
noble, Gulliver is constantly offended when he sees a disturbing resemblance between himself
and the barbaric Yahoos. He falls to the same sin of pride that he condemned in the others in
previous voyages. He is disgusted that the members of his own human race are living a filthy
lifestyle such as the animals of England, and this makes him eager to return to home, where he
thinks things are normal. Therefore, a rat ready to enter its hole represents Gulliver forced to return
to England because of his fear that he will eventually turn barbaric.
The essential rhythm the author has interwoven in all the four of Gulliver s

Zeitoun Thesis
As of now, most people, including yourself, are probably aware about the mishap with Dave
Eggers and his award winning novel Zeitoun. Soon after the release of his narrative, the hidden
violence of the Zeitoun couple was disclosed to the public. Evidently proven, there has morosely
been a history of domestic violence and rage with Abdulrahman Zeitoun beating his wife with
extreme measures. Controversy was clearly evident upon whether or not Zeitoun should be
allocated to upcoming juniors in the summer after the released report. I firmly stand by prohibiting
the reading of Zeitoun for forthcoming 11th graders of Mills High School. The series of unfortunate
events has completely ruined the positive outlook on the novel and is slowly, but surely, destroying
the reputation of Muslims and their faith.
First of all, Zeitoun ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We are currently living in a world where Islamic terrorism is unfortunately showering the globe.
Muslims are constantly being bombarded with the accusations of being terrorists and overall
violent beings, which is rarely the case. Being a Muslim myself, I try to break and prevent this
stereotype with any chance I have because it is truly heartbreaking to see a religion become hated
in the public eye. Abdulrahman Zeitoun is sadly a rare example of this stereotype. In an article
written by Victoria Patterson in the LA Review of Books, Patterson contentedly recounts Zeitoun s
character in Egger s novel as a loving family man peaceful, calm, and devoted to his wife . Pride
ran through my body when a Muslim was famous for his life saving actions, not his terrorist
operations. My whole mindset turned bitter

The Development of the Centre for Migration Studies Irish Emigration Database
In 1988 the Ulster American Folk Park (UAFP) near Omagh in Co Tyrone, Northern Ireland
began to set up a computerised Irish Emigration Database (IED) in its library. This was a ground
breaking project at that time and was immediately beset by problems of all kinds, the details of
which will be explained later. By 1997 the Folk Park s library had expanded to become the Centre
for Emigration Studies and eventually the Centre for Migration Studies (CMS). The latter is now
funded jointly by the Scotch Irish Trust of Ulster in partnership with DCAL (Department of
Culture, Arts Leisure) and the five Education and Library Boards of Northern Ireland. In this paper

The late John Winters (who sadly died in May 2002) managed the Database project at UAFP and
then subsequently became Database Manager at CMS. As Database Collection Manager, I have
managed the Project in Belfast from its inception until the present day. Des McMorrow was in post
as ICT Manager from October 2003 March 2004. A new ICT Manager is to be in place by July
2004.
SETTING UP AND STAFFING
The British Council funded Ms Joan Reedy, from Boston, Massachusetts, to work on the project in
Belfast during 1989/90 and Dr Katharine Brown from Virginia, and Ms Maureen Macauley, also
from Boston, during 1991/92. They all did some excellent work for the Database and were a
tremendous asset to the project. All other workers have been appointed via unemployment training
schemes.
After a year initially working at PRONI a new government training scheme was introduced to
replace the old Ace Scheme. This entailed recruiting trainees who would earn only ВЈ10 per week,
on top of their unemployment benefit. The prospects of recruiting well qualified people to process
the documents looked bleak. However, after a short while we began to build up a number of
trainees who were interested in the work.
The main Training and Employment Agency was Enterprise Ulster http:/
/www.enterpriseulster.co.uk whose head office is in Belfast. During the early years when
unemployment was high there could be 12 13 trainees at a time working at our Belfast office.

Cyber Security And Risk Analysis
As a student pursuing a major in Security and Risk Analysis, also known as Cyber Security, it
has been repeatedly drilled into my head how much potential the Internet has to change the ways
in which people experience the external world in which we live, for better or for worse. The
Internet, consisting of a gargantuan amount of data, is composed of more than 150 million
websites, such as Facebook, LinkedIn, blogs, or other virtual worlds such as Second Life. Such
websites, made possible by the Internet, act as a medium between two worlds: 1) an external world
experienced by embodied conscious beings and 2) a virtual world experienced by disembodied, yet
still conscious, beings. The ways in which individuals experience various phenomena pertaining to
such a contrasting dichotomy between external and virtual worlds, characterized by
disembodiment, can be difficult to comprehend given that humans tend to rely so heavily on
immediate sense data provided by their physical bodies. Fortunately, phenomenology(as Shaun
Gallagher and Dan Zahavi have presented it) can help us to understand such experiential
differences. Phenomenologist Hubert Dreyfus begins to analyze these differences in experienced
phenomena between embodiment and disembodiment and its social implications through his work
On the Internet. Dreyfus claim that disembodied telepresence, characterized by disembodiment
through technological mediums, as detrimental to society may initially be perceived as plausible

Friday Day Research Paper
It is seven o clock on a Friday morning, Loraine wakes up to the smell of pancakes in the kitchen,
the usual. She starts to get ready for school. She puts her long skirt and blouse on, brushes her
hair, then teeth, grabs her bag, and trots down the stairs to the kitchen. She kisses her mother
and father on the cheek and sits down to her plate of three pancakes, two slices of toast, and a
glass of orange juice. As soon as she finishes she double, then triple, checks her book bag to
make sure she has all that she needs for her day. She walks outside and gets on the bus with her

The Importance Of Western Imperialism In China
Western imperialism in China was very significant, costed the lives of millions of people, but also
helped shape China into a much stronger country than it was before, being ruled by the Qing
Dynasty. Imperialism is a country extending its power and influence through the use of military
force. There were two wars between the imperialists and China, the first and second Opium wars.
The result of these wars was the weakening of the Qing Dynastyand led to a time of rebuilding,
which was a great struggle, for China. The Europeans wanted to trade with China because of the
great opportunity that they saw in the market. China s population, which was 430 million, was
seen as a fast and easy way for the Europeans to make a lot of money. The... Show more content on

China was weakened and by this period in time, had become dependent on the Europeans, which
now controlled them.
The Chinese were able to learn from their mistakes from the past and turn them into positives in
order to better improve their economy for the future. With the opened ports and foreigners free to
visit China, the educated citizens class was increasing in numbers. Many of these people were not
happy with the progress of the Qing Dynasty and started to form groups in order to help find
alternatives to certain situations. By 1912 the last Chinese emperor stepped down and the order
that had ruled over China for two thousand years had finally fallen. This was a new start for the
China. The rebuilding of China was very difficult, but using what they had learned, China was able
to modernize themselves in many aspects, including military, improve their economy, and overall
developed themselves into a superior country.
The British wanted to do business with China after seeing the market potential because of the
population, as well as the significant growth in the past two centuries. China s population increased
by 330 million people less than two centuries. The agricultural production in China was not able to
keep up with the rapid increase in population. The British saw opportunity in this and believed that
they could generate a great amount of money from the market. China s refusal to trade with the

Annotated Bibliography On Database Encryption
1. INTRODUCTION Database Encryption is one of the technique used for securing the data in
database. This method transforms information on a computer in such a way that it becomes
unreadable. So, even if someone is able to gain access to a computer with personal data on it,
they likely won t be able to do anything with the data unless they have original data key,
complicated or expensive software. The main function of encryption is essentially to translate
normal text into cipher text. Encryption makes sure that data doesn t get read by the wrong
people, but can also ensure that data isn t altered in transit, and verify the identity of the sender.
Data Encryption method typically uses a specified parameter or key to perform the data
transformation. Some encryption algorithms require the key to be the same length as the message
to be encoded, yet other encryption algorithms can operate on much smaller keys relative to the
message. Encryption is most used among transactions over insecure channels of communication,
such as the internet. Encryption is also used to protect data being transferred between devices such
as mobile telephones, automatic teller machines (ATMs), and many more. Encryption can be used
to create digital signatures, which allow a message to be authenticated. When properly
implemented, a digital signature gives the recipient of a message reason to believe the message
was sent by the claimed sender. 2. THREATS TO DATABASE 2.1 Database Databases are the

Michael Moore s Bowling For Columbine Essay
When Michael Moore first created the documentary, Bowling for Columbine , in 2002 he not only
wanted to raise awareness around the tragedy that was the Columbine Massacre, but wanted to look
beyond that and dig deep into finding out the political events that led up to this tragic event.
Michael Moore wanted to seek to investigate and confront leading, powerful politicians for allowing
this violent culture to worsen for their own benefit through creating this documentary. It is clear
that Moore loves his country but hates its current politics which is why he decided to make
Bowling for Columbineas it both highlights the issues surrounding Americas current Gun laws
whilst investigating the truth behind the Columbine Massacre and the political events leading up to
this tragedy. This reading will explore Michael Moores political stance whilst investigating the
power of the NRA (national rifle association) and the manipulation of the media whilst finding out
the political events that led to the Columbine Massacre and changing the way Americans think
about their 2nd amendment ( right to bare arms ). It will also talk about Americas violent history.
Michael Moore was born in Flint, Michigan on April 23, 1954 where he then studied Journalism at
the University of Michigan Flint. Moore began working for the school newspaper, The Michigan
Times but turned to to filmmaking where his first BIG hit was Bowling for Columbine and earned
him not only an oscar but a big reputation.

Emerson Metaphors
Everyone in this planet called Earth, has their own different ways of expressing feelings, different
learning strategies, and different talents. In this piece of writing, Emerson explains how and why
independence is what has created today s society. Emerson explains these thoughts by using
metaphors, common sense, similes and imagery. Emerson starts off by stating that everyone is
very common but also very different. For example, when Emerson says, Every heart vibrates to
that iron string (Pg. 591, Line 37), he expresses that people are very similar. A matter of fact, there
is an actual study that shows when a human being listens to music, the beat of your heart goes with
the rhythm of the music. This piece of the puzzle has one powerful image. And that is an image of
imagery and metaphor. Emerson uses these two strategies because he wants to grab his audience
attention by bringing what they love most, their heart (without their heart they wouldn t be able to
love) and music.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
591, Line 13). Here Emerson explains how every single person has control over their own lives.
They can achieve their goals and it could also go the other way. This is another way to put
Emerson s quote, like when someone says you learn from your mistakes, that is something major
that we need to understand. Another reason why Emerson wrote this piece like he did, was that
we need to go with the feeling of our gut. Because if a person thinks about a decision for too
long, that person will miss your chance. Another quote is, Let the subject be what it may (Pg. 591,
Line 2). This goes hand in hand with the recent quote stated above. No one has control over
another person s life except the person who is living

Symptoms And Treatment Of Trypanosoma Brucei
Trypanosoma brucei is a member of the Trypanosomatidae family, is protozoan of order
Kinetoplastida. They cause African trypanosomiasis or sleeping sickness as it is most commonly
known, a parasitic disease it causes an infection in the brain and the meninges (Stanghellini
Josenando 2001). Trypanosoma brucei have 3 different sub species, these being T. brucei
gambiense which causes chronic trypanosomiasis which has a slow onset in humans, T. brucei
rhodesiense which causes acute trypanosomiasis with a fast onset. With the last sub species being
T. brucei brucei which causes animal African Trypanosomiasis. It is a neglected tropical disease and
is found primarily in the continent of Africa with up to 60 million people affected in 35 African
countries. Failure to treat this is fatal (Ekwanzala et al. 1996), however there are currently four
drugs on the market for the treatment, these being pentamidine, melarsoprol, eflornithine and
suramin (WГ©ry 1994).
There are 2 forms of Trypanosoma brucei, these being bloodstream form and the procyclic form
(Colasante et al. 2006). The bloodstream form should be eradicated by the adaptive immune
response, but this is prevented by the variable surface glycoproteins(Overath et al. 1994). These
are adaptable as they form a new unique set of proteins every 1/100 cell divisions to evade the
surface protein specific response. Trypomastigotes can multiply in the bloodstream as the slender
form where once the population is high enough,

Basques Social Structure
The Basques are people who inhabit a region spanning over parts of north central Spain and
southwestern France. Some people are still confused as to where they have originated from.
Basques are now mainly found in an area traditionally known as Euskal Herria, which is located

also called the Euskera. The Basque languageis an extremely complex language which has no close

and superstructure how they maintained it all. The Basques infrastructure is not an industrial hub,
but they do maintain a unique regional identity. They can use an update with their infrastructure.

The Causes Of Black Power
According to Martin Luther King Jr., Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that.
Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that . The significance of this quote is to end
racism with non violence. There are many important people that support the claim of black
power paved the way for African American equality and civil rights. For example, Margaret
Garner, Rosa Parks, and Martin Luther King Jr. were all influential in the fight for black power.
Black Power is a political slogan aimed at achieving self determination for people of African
descent. Martin Luther King Jr. was the most important voice of the American civil rights
movement and the Black power movement, which both worked for equal rights for all. He was
famous for using nonviolent resistance to overcome injustice similar to Gandhi. Black power was
necessary for paving the way for African Americanequality, and civil rights that African Americans
still fight for today.
Slavery is the practice system of owning slaves. Slavery caused segregation basically the act of
setting someone apart from other people. African Americans were segregated from white people
because African Americans were considered dirty. Slaves were usually bought to work on
plantations. While the slaves were on the ship they were prepared for the auction. The white ship
workers cleaned, shaved, and rubbed the slaves with palm oil to hide sores caused by conditions on
the ship. The captains usually sold their slaves directly

Characteristics Of Jean Baptiste De Lamarck And Charles...
Many research scientists virtually agree as to the importance of an elucidation of evolutionary
mechanisms as the unification for acquisition and assumption of information concerning the origin,
history, and diversity of life on earth. Evolution is construed as an overall gradual development of
living organisms from differentiated pre historic to current times. It represents the process whereby
modern organisms descend from ancient ancestors. Across decades of years, evidence from
innumerable sources have indicated that the concepts put forth by Jean Baptiste de Lamarck and
Charles Darwinrepresents the base of scientific research in the field of evolution. However, there
are circumstantial evidence which proves that Darwin s theoretical beliefs... Show more content on

Lamarck s theory of Inheritance of Acquired Characteristics has been disproved. This was done
in two major ways. The first is by experimentation using the scientific method. We have seen
numerous real life phenomenon and observed that changes that occur in an organism during life
are not passed on to the offspring. If a dog s back limbs are damaged and unusable, its offspring
are still born with all legs usable. This and other such examples show that Lamarck s theory does
not explain how life formed and became the way it is. Secondly, Lamarck s theory has been proven
wrong by the study of genetics. Darwin knew that traits are passed on, but he never understood
how they are passed on. During the time when Darwin published is first research on evolution,
Gregor Mendel, who discovered genetics, was just starting his experiments. However, now we
know extensively about genetics, and we know that the only way for traits to be passed on is
through genes, and that genes cannot be affected by the outside world. The only thing that can be
affected is which gene sets there are in a population, and this is determined by which individuals die
and which ones live. Although Darwin won acceptance for evolution, his efforts to establish the
validity of natural selection, his primary mechanism of evolution, were less

The two theories I will utilize from this course in order to explain my patient s behavior are the
psychodynamic theory and the systems theory.
Theories to Explain Behavior The psychodynamic theory would explain an individual s personality
in terms of conscious and unconscious forces, such as unconscious desires and beliefs. In the early
20th century, Sigmund Freud proposed the psychodynamic theory consists of the id (accountable
for instincts and pleasure seeking), the superego (attempts to submit to the rules of parents and
society), and the ego (which facilitates between the id and superego according to the stresses of
reality) (Cherry, n.d.). Psychodynamic theories believe childhood experiences shape a person s
personality.
The systems theory would focus on the micorsystems, which are the interpersonal relations
experienced by the developing person. Amy s challenge will also be explained through her
mesosystem, this would be the linkage and processes that take place between two or more setting
containing the developing person (ST article ). Lastly through the systems theory Amy s challenge
will be analyzed through her macrosystem which is a societal blueprint for a particular culture. (ST

The Hiding Place And Maus Comparison
Throughout modern history, various historical texts, personal accounts, and books have been
published regarding the devastating events of World War 2 and the Holocaust. Two of the most
prominent novels written about the Holocaust are Maus and The Hiding Place. Maus is a graphic
novel illustrated by Arthur Spiegelman in 1980 and details the catastrophic effects of the Holocaust
on the Jewish survivors of it. Another notable book similar to Mausis The Hiding Place by Corrie
Ten Boom. The Hiding Place is a biography written and published in 1937 and details the story of a
young Christian family during World War 1. Throughout these accounts, contrasting themes are
explored such as love, anger, forgiveness, and guilt. Although there are various similarities, there

Surrealism And Andre Breton, The Founder Of Surrealism
A cultural movement that emerged in the early 1920 s, Surrealism started as a literal movement but
evolved into something much more. Best known for it s dreamlike scenes of irrational and often
surprising substance, the movement spoke to the unconscious mind of humankind with the
semiotic balance between reality and fiction. Artists of this era turned and merged everyday objects
into contradictory and irrational works of art, giving rise to new forms of thought and creation
(Mikos, 2013). Andre Breton, the founder of surrealism was inspired by Sigmund Freuds view of
the unconscious mindand how this information could shape society. Salvador Dali, a surrealist
artist, challenged the conventional mind, and set an example to as the ever changing reality; as
seen through his abstract perception of nature and time. Post WW1, where society was evidently
changing; Breton became the founder of the surrealist movement, while Dali was a pioneer in the
abstract styles of surrealism. Culturally, this movement directly impacted individuals identity,
ritualistic beliefs, status and the way in which art was performed and presented. Many still question
why this is relevant today, as this form and movement was a pinnacle turning point for art as we
know it today; creating and changing the norm to something farfetched but still seemingly realistic
and possible.
The semiotic value during this time frame had a significant impact on the way society as a whole
viewed the world at large. It

Legislative Branches Of The United States Essay
In the United States, we have a Constitution that divides our federal government into three
branches that carry out different jobs and consist of important leaders to help with laws and
other aspects of the country. There is the Legislative Branch, Executive Branch, and the Judicial
Branch. Although the three branches are all very different in what they can do and perform,
they are all still equal. We equalize these branches by a system we call Our System of Checks
and Balances. Legislative Branch is where the laws are made, and it consists of the Senate and
House of Representatives. The Executive Branch is where the laws are carried out. This branch
includes the President, Vice President and the Cabinet. The Judicial Branch interprets and
applies laws, and this branch consists of the Supreme Court and all the other courts. The
Legislative Branch checks over the Executive Branch by overriding presidential vetoes and also
by impeaching and convicting presidents in the Executive branch. The Legislative Branch
checks over the Judicial Branch of our government by impeaching federal judges and Supreme
Court justices. The Legislative branch also has the ability of confirming or refusing judges or
justices for elections for the Judicial Branch. There are many roles in each branch of our
government. The Speaker of the House is both the presiding officer of the House of
Representatives and the leader of the majority party. The speaker is also second in charge to the vice

The Importance Of Vitamin C
Humans are among one of the few species that are unable to make vitamin C, making vitamin C an
essential micronutrient. The location site for the absorption of vitamin C happens in the small
intestine and absorbs 50 percent or less of vitamin C when the intake is one gram or more a day
(Schiff 294). Taking large amounts of vitamin Ccan be wasteful because as the intake of vitaminC
increases the amount absorbed by the small intestine decreases (Schiff 294). Good sources of
vitamin C are found in plant foods. Some of these foods that contain high amounts of vitamin C
include peppers, citrus fruit, papaya, broccoli, and berries.
Vitamin C does not function as part of coenzyme as do B vitamins, but the vitamin served as a
nutrient cofactor that facilitates certain chemical reactions (Schiff 294). Vitamin C carries out a
variation of important cellular functions such as donating electrons to other compounds (Schiff
294). Vitamin C takes part in reactions that form and maintains collagen, which is a fibrous
protein that gives strength to connective tissue (Schiff 295). Another function vitamin C has is
that it can act as an antioxidant by giving electrons to radicals (Schiff 295). Vitamin C also has a
role in the immune function in the body, and it is necessary for the synthesis of bile and also
certain neurotransmitters (Schiff 295). Vitamin C may be very beneficial to the body but like any
other type of vitamin there can also be deficiency s or toxicities.

Relationship Between Colonialism And Archaeology
One of the major topics in Anthropology today is the link between colonialism and archaeology.
Moro Abadia (2006) explains that during most of the twentieth century, the history of archaeology
has been an eloquent example of colonial discourse , by which colonialist groups constitute the
field of truth about the past by imposing specific knowledge, practices and values upon colonized
groups. Moro Abadia (2006) explains three ways that the history of archaeologyacted as a tool of
knowledge power about the past within which he says some colonialist practices have come into
being. The first way being that historians of archaeology have promoted a romantic image of the
archaeological practices in colonized countries. From this studying colonial settings in the past
has been an activity that seeks to justify the seizure of lands and the abuse of indigenous people,
but were known as popular histories that told of amazing explorations in order to capture the
public s interests (Trigger, 1989). Indiana Jones is a great example of a story of archaeological
discovery of abandoned monuments, mysterious cities or ancient treasures (Moro Abadia, 2006).
Many popular historiographical accounts today focus on archaeology in colorized regions that as
Moro Abadia (2006) describes, constitutes the geography of Western romantic imagery in countries
such as Egypt and Mesopotamia. The second way being that they usually leave out the connections
between the consolidation of archaeology as

Customs and Courtesies Essays
Marine Corps customs and courtesies are very important to the way the Marine Corps works.
They are intended to reinforce discipline and the chain of command, showing how Marines will
treat their superiors. They also enhance esprit de corps and unity. This is what makes the Marine
Corps the brotherhood that it has become. Military courtesies include correct forms of address
like; Sir, and Ma am, and when each should be used; the salute, and standing at attention, proper
wear of military covers, and the rules for behavior in different ceremonies. Specifics can change
depending on an individual s rank, location, and conditions. A military funeral, for example,

But one thing they all have in common is they show the respect and honor the soldiers and
superiors have for one another. Military courtesies are often very similar to the civilities found
in the civilian world as well as daily life. The only difference is that it is mandatory for the
courtesies seen in the military to be adhered to and followed by its soldiers. If these courtesies
are not followed, the offending soldier can, and almost always will, be punished. This
punishment can come in the form of corrective training, known commonly as essays, extra duty
and can go as far as court martial, jail time and/or being discharged from the military. In the
military, manners and levels of respect help to identify the difference between junior to senior
ranking members. Courtesies and customs of the Army have been practiced for hundreds of
years. They involve a code of conduct that is mandatory for every member of the army to follow.
Some are obviously against the rules of professionalism such as public display of affection in
uniform, as is being intoxicated in uniform and exhibiting violent behavior are conducts that are
punishable in the military code of conduct. Others are unique codes of behavior that must to be

realize that we should not call one good and the other bad because everything is interdependent.
Nor do good or bad make any sense when separated from one another. Also, when we think some
things are better than others, we must remember that we are able to judge something only
because we can compare them. In the other word, the bad is like the mirror of the good. That s
why Lao tzu states chapter two in Tao Te Ching. Lao tzu wants us to change the way we see things.

The Importance Of Physical Beauty In The Renaissance Era
Society s perception of love changes constantly. As a result, poems of different time periods have
different perceptions of love and beauty. Ben Jonson s A Vision of Beauty and Samuel Daniel s
But love whilst that thou mayst be loved again reflect the importance of physical beauty in love
during the Renaissance Era. In the Victorian Period, Wilfrid Scawen Blunt s I See You Juliet and
Robert Browning s A Face continue to reflect society s fascination with female beauty in both a
positive and negative way. In the Modern Period, a shift occurs in both marriageand lovewith a

In his poem, But love whilst that thou mayst be loved again , he focuses on warning women to
find love soon because beauty will not last with age. He compares a woman s beauty to a flower:
the fairest flower that ever saw the light / men do not weigh the stalk for what it was / when they
find her flower, her glory, pass (Daniel 6, 13 14). Through this metaphor, he shows how men
view beauty in love. No one looks at a dead flower and thinks about what it used to be, rather, he
or she looks towards other flowers that bloom with life and colour. This sonnet begins as an
admiration for his subject s beauty, but it ends by telling the subject that when her physical beauty
deteriorates, no one will love her. This poem reflects society s fixation on superficial beauty
because it reminds women that they will never find love without external beauty, as a result of the
superficiality of men in society. Both poems of the Renaissance Period assert the idea of perfection
and the importance of physical beauty in love and relationships. Victorian era poets continue to
propound the importance of superficial beauty. During this era, there was a continual belief in lust
and sexual desires, evident in the rampant disloyalty that husbands showed their wives (Hughes).
Wilfrid Scawen Blunt depicts this continual fascination of lust and beauty in his poem, I See You
Juliet . The

Theme Of Death In The Giver
The Journey Have you ever wondered where you will go when you die? The School by Donald
Barthelme and The Giver by Louis Lowry explore death as a common theme throughout the short
story and the novel. The School is a short story told from the perspective of a teacher at what
seems to be an elementary or middle school. The story, consisting of a mere 1200 words, follows
the numerous tragedies the school faces over roughly a month long timespan. The Giveris a novel
about a dystopian society and is told from the perspective of a young boy named Jonas. The story
follows Jonas journey in becoming the Receiver of Memory at age twelve, which is the normal
age to be assigned a career in this society, and how he learns the truth about the world that he lives
in. In The School, death is a very obvious theme. Barthelme uses death as the central theme and
portrays it in a very humorous way. Whereas in The Giver, death, in terms of it being a theme, is
very subtle and serious. This is shown in numerous ways throughout each story. Though death is
treated differently in both The Giver and The School, and the message behind each work is
different, the dystopian aspect connects the stories by exemplifying the lack of emotion and
dehumanization of the characters in each story. In The School, death is the central theme of the
story and is treated as something light and humorous, with the exception of a couple tone switches
throughout the story. Barthelme uses escalation and a perpetually

Bipolar And Bipolar Disorder ( Bipolar )
Bipolar robs you of that which is you. It can take from you the very core of your being and replace
it with something that is completely opposite of who and what you truly are (A. Reyan 2015).
Bipolar disorder is a mood disorder that alters a person s life, they can never go back to who they
were before. It is estimated that more than 10 million Americans suffer from bipolar disorder
(everydayhealth.com 2015). Bipolar disorder is broken down into two types; bipolar I and bipolar
II disorder. Bipolar I disorder must contain one manic episode in a person s life. Whereas Bipolar II
disorder requires one hypomanic episode to occur. The prevalence of Bipolar disorder is around 4%
within the United States, with only 1.0% of that being Bipolar I disorder. Not a lot of research has
been done, to determine which race is more prevalent for this disorder (NIMH.org 2015). People of
lower socioeconomic status have been linked to have higher rates of Bipolar I disorder. Bipolar I
disorder is more common among women than men, with a ratio of ~3:2 (CDC.org 2015). Bipolar I
disorder typically develops in a person s late teen or early adulthood with an average onset age of
25 years old. Bipolar I disorder is defined as manic depressive illness, is a brain disorder that

Nicolas Poussin s The Plague At Ashdod
The Plague at Ashdod is Nicolas Poussin s most frequently studied and celebrated plague paintings
of the seventeenth century. The painting represents the Old Testament story from passages in the
First Book of Samuel. According to the scriptures, the Philistines had stolen the Ark of the
Covenant and brought it to the statue of Dagon. This angered God and he plagued the citizens of
Ashdod with tumors and swarmed the territory with rats. In 1630, while Poussin worked on the
painting, Italywas stricken with the worst outbreak of the bubonic plague. This had a major
influence on his depiction of the Old Testament story. Sheila Barker s Poussin, Plague, and Early
Modern Medicine offers the beliefs surrounding Poussin s medical and spiritual knowledge of the
plague. Christine Boeckl s The Miracle of the Ark in the Temple of Dagon makes connections to
literary and visual sources that influenced Poussin s painting. The Plague at Ashdod was not just

the gestures, attributes and motifs in the sketches for The Miracle and offers an understanding of
the artists thought process. Barker explains contemporary understanding of medicine and poetry
influenced Poussin s interpretation of the biblical plague. She gives insight that the composition
was tied to the belief that it could immunize viewers against the plague. I now respond differently

Intro
Is marketing important? If you ask most business professionals, they would say Yes . If you do
not know, marketing consists of the activities that businesses partake in to direct the exchange of
goods and services from a company to a consumer. Advertising is one of the many activities that
a business can use in order to spread awareness and information about a specific product.
Companies develop marketing campaigns, which is the course of action the company will take to
promote the product or service. Nike s Just Do It is an example of a very effective marketing
campaign. It jumped Nike s sales from $800 million a year to over $9.2 billion a year (Kolowich,
n.d.). However, not every marketing campaign is as successful as Nike s. Some campaigns are not
even successful and end up costing the company behind the idea millions of dollars and tarnishing
its reputation to an unrepairable point. In this report, I will be analyzing American Airlines and
their AAirpass. I will go over what the AAirpass campaign was, the reactions of both the consumer

Alfred Hitchcock Rear Window Essay
Alfred Hitchcock s Rear Window is a voyeuristic point of view (POV) style of filming. The point
of view captures the intimate details of the neighbors lives through the view of Jimmy Stewarts
character L. B. Jefferies (Jeff). Hitchcock set the tone for movies of the POV style. There are
many films today that have used the same POV techniques, such as 2007 s Disturbia, directed by
D.J. Caruso, who was inspired by Rear Window. Although the setting are different, Disturbia
gives the audience the view from the aspect of a teenager, Kale Brecht (Shia LaBeouf), who
under house arrest starts spying on his neighbors. When one night he watches his neighbor

My First Day Of School Essay
We met during our second last year of high school. Back then, I had transferred to Richmond
High from my old school, Churchill, to study in the IB program they offered. I was quite
looking forward to it, actually. I felt that the past years of my life had been wasted on social life
and boys who just disappointed me at the end. Moving to a new school was a way to break free,
to start anew and focus on something different for a change. Studies. That s right, I was going to
focus on studies. Plus, I had quite a few close friends who were going to be there, and that made
it even better. The first day of school had been fun. I had some classes with the people I was
familiar with. Even the morning classes didn t sound so bad, since my best friends were in
there. Lucy Sun and Anna Zhang were among the reasons of why I had wanted to transfer. The
three of us had known each other since a young age. They might have been a little crazy back
then, but awesome none the same. They were the friends I would never want to let go of. They
were best friends as well, though it seemed unlikely. Those two were as different as two people
can get. Lucy was slim, with a small figure and a pretty face to match. She had short hairback then,
and the locks barely reached her shoulders. She dressed the way Korea or Asian girls would dress,
delicate and feminine. She took great interest in hair styles and sometimes complained about how
her short hair didn t allow her to wear the style she wanted.

The Five Yamas of Hatha Yoga Essay
The Five Yamas of Hatha Yoga
Yoga is a discipline both involving physical and mental control that originated in India. The word
Yoga is derived from the Sanskrit word, yug , meaning union and it means the joining of the
individual spirit with the universal spirit. The type of yoga known as Hatha Yoga, ( Ha sun, tha

and is the most physical. There are eight limbs or steps of Hatha Yoga, the first step being the five
Yamas. There are five yamas and these concern your behavior to the world.

Yet, as I became more knowledgeable and wise, I gave up meat and haven t eaten it in ten years.
The reason I did so was simply because I believe in the sanctity and integrity of all life forms.
The second yama is Satya, whose translation from Sanskrit is truthfulness. It requires one to respect
the truth in thinking, action, and speech. Satya is a very large concept. It means that you should
not say something that you know is false. It also means that you should not lead others into error
by making them believe that you know something when you only presume. Saying the truth is
extremely difficult, for, before telling the truth you must know it through personal
experimentation; you must discover the truth about yourself and release false pretenses. The
way I live truthfulness in my heart is to be truthful to myself and to my heart. I need to do that
before I can open up the truth to everyone else. One of the ways in which I practice truthfulness
to myself is by knowing and respecting my abilities and limitations. For example, I am very
aware of my knowledge of other subjects. In some subjects such as math and physics I excel,
however, in others, such as politics or history, I am not as capable as other people. So, when

Theme Of Coming Of Age In Catcher In The Rye
The main character of J.D. Salinger s novel, The Catcher in the Rye, Holden Caulfield is only in
his teens, attending High School, yet longs for his early childhood. He can be seen trying to hold
onto the past by acting various ways. The author, meanwhile, uses symbolism to demonstrate the
effects of a loss of innocence, and the effects of coming of age. J.D. Salinger s novel The Catcher
in the Rye shows, through moderately relatable eyes, the changes and realities that we must all
accept, and what we must lose as we all come of age, taking a step into the adult world.
Analyzing Holden s character as for a biography, the reader will likely conclude that he acts no
better than a hyperactive child; with little in the way of understanding the fact that all actions
come with consequences. There is what he likes which seems to be little and what he dislikes
which he often proceeds to call phony. His vocabulary is limited, vernacular simple, phrases
repetitious, and he frequently moves to tangents; Holden acts as a child would. He has held onto
what he perceives children doing, saying, thinking, and has incorporated that into himself. This is
not because he has yet to lose his innocence, but because he feels he must hold on to what he
believes he still has so that he may live a happy life. This is best seen by the reader when Holden
divulges into one of his previously mentioned tangents, which often take on a more somber or
aggressive tone towards something in the

UND Solar Project Analysis
As concerned citizens at University of North Dakota me and my group addressed a money

future. The project is accurate, because University of North Dakota faces numerous budget cuts
and so the school needs a change in its spending and budget. Budget cuts and spending on logo
which does not seem that important to do currently, makes students losing their sympathy to the

is based on these upsetting feelings that we have. Budget cuts are evident here three more athletic
programs have just been cut. Although this cut will take a toll on the budget deficit situation the
University is currently encountering, it will not fix the debt we are facing. Taking a look at the
money spent on powering this college is quite eye opening to say the least. This is by no means a

Argument Against Golf
Nowadays there are a great many of sports and activities that we are able to enjoy. When it
comes to some of these activities many people discuss whether they are a sport or a game. There
is a certain debate that deals with Golf and it is, whether it should be considered a sport or a game.
Many people have different views and opinions on things and golfis one of them. My view is that
golf should be considered a sportfor multiple reasons. First it follows the definition of a sport,
second it is included in major sporting events such as the Olympics, and third its golfers are
considered athletes just like any other sport. Since Golf is reaches the definition of a sport it helps
see how golf qualifies for the title of sport. Merriam Webster... Show more content on

The definition of a athlete is someone who is proficient in a sport and other physical exercise.
There are many people who are proficient at golf and are considered golf athletes. These people
go on golf tours and do tournaments competing against other golf athletes and are very good at
what they do. Not all people who play a sport leisurely are considered athletes so not all golfers
should be considered athletes. Professional golfers should really be considered athletes due to
the effort and work they put into getting ready for their games. ESPN did a study in 2004 asking
many other athletes on what they believed. There was opinions that golf isn t really a sport but a
very difficult game. There was however quite a few people who said that golf is definitely a
sport. Many athletes from different sports claim that golf is a very difficult sport and that s why
people like it. They make many good points and a lot of them talk about how they thought golf
was not as difficult until they actually tried it and realised how truly difficult it is. Many of
these athletes have played golf before and understand what it s like and they recognize that is
should definitely be considered a sport. One also talks about the training some of the golf players
do in order to get ready for a game and how intense they do train for it. According to one website
called golflink it talks about what golfers now do to

In most cases, a problem is a research opportunity for product improvement or the launch of a new product. The first critical step of the marketing process involves how the research problem is defined by specifying the research objectives; identifying the consumer population of interest, and placing the problem in an environmental context. Data collected as secondary research provides massive data compiled and made available to anyone through syndicated research, government sources, and published research. Opposite to gathering data already collected as primary data and tested. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

She also played an important role in the society of women and their rights as residents of our country. But let s go back to the beginning of her story the very beginning. It all began when Abigail was born on November 11th, 1744, as the daughter of a minister. This was before she had the last name of Adams; her maiden name was Abigail Smith. She grew up with her mother and father, Elizabeth Smith and William QuincySmith, in Weymouth, Massachusetts. As a child, she was very sickly, so her parents did not put her through formal schooling. Instead, they homeschooled her where they taught her how to read and write. She grew to be a very open minded and well read young lady who had a deep passion for books. When she turned 15, she met an older man by the name of John Adams, who was 27. They were actually 3rd cousins, but they fell into a love so deep that they decided to marry. They married on October 25th, 1764, when she was 19 and he was 30. This brought the two into adulthood, into a life that required a lot more work and included several bumps in throughout journey. By this time, they lived together, still in Massachusetts, but John s job as a politician kept him away from home quite often. They wrote letters back and forth constantly, reporting to each other about current situations happening ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Lamuel Gulliver Essays Lamuel Gulliver Jonathan Swift is one of the best known satirists in the history of literature. When one reads his works, especially something like Gulliver s Travels, it is easy for one to spot the misanthropic themes, which emerge within his characterization. Lamuel Gulliver is an excellent protagonist: a keen observer, and a good representative of his native England, but one who loses faith in mankind as his story progresses. He ends up in remote areas of the world all by accidents in his voyages. In each trip, he is shipwrecked and mysteriously arrives to lands never before seen by men. Gulliver is a good representative of England, but one who loses faith in mankind as the story progresses. The visit to Brobdingnag accounts for most of this misery, where he attempts to preserve his dignity as an English man. Gulliver becomes exactly the controversial figure of what he was in Lilliput. In this case, the Brobdingnagians remain peaceful with him, yet he is prideful. The flag of Gulliver s homeland, England, on the coat of arms illustrates pride. Yet due to his pride for his native England, in the country of the Houyhnhnms, Gulliver is gradually driven mad by his realization that he can never hope to achieve the state of existence of the supremely rational, noble Houyhnhnms. Even though the Houyhnhnms consider Gulliver to be noble, Gulliver is constantly offended when he sees a disturbing resemblance between himself and the barbaric Yahoos. He falls to the same sin of pride that he condemned in the others in previous voyages. He is disgusted that the members of his own human race are living a filthy lifestyle such as the animals of England, and this makes him eager to return to home, where he thinks things are normal. Therefore, a rat ready to enter its hole represents Gulliver forced to return to England because of his fear that he will eventually turn barbaric. Soon after the release of his narrative, the hidden violence of the Zeitoun couple was disclosed to the public. Evidently proven, there has morosely been a history of domestic violence and rage with Abdulrahman Zeitoun beating his wife with extreme measures. Controversy was clearly evident upon whether or not Zeitoun should be allocated to upcoming juniors in the summer after the released report. Cyber Security And Risk Analysis As a student pursuing a major in Security and Risk Analysis, also known as Cyber Security, it has been repeatedly drilled into my head how much potential the Internet has to change the ways in which people experience the external world in which we live, for better or for worse. The Internet, consisting of a gargantuan amount of data, is composed of more than 150 million websites, such as Facebook, LinkedIn, blogs, or other virtual worlds such as Second Life. Such websites, made possible by the Internet, act as a medium between two worlds: 1) an external world experienced by embodied conscious beings and 2) a virtual world experienced by disembodied, yet still conscious, beings. The ways in which individuals experience various phenomena pertaining to such a contrasting dichotomy between external and virtual worlds, characterized by disembodiment, can be difficult to comprehend given that humans tend to rely so heavily on immediate sense data provided by their physical bodies. Fortunately, phenomenology(as Shaun Gallagher and Dan Zahavi have presented it) can help us to understand such experiential differences. Phenomenologist Hubert Dreyfus begins to analyze these differences in experienced phenomena between embodiment and disembodiment and its social implications through his work On the Internet. Dreyfus claim that disembodied telepresence, characterized by disembodiment through technological mediums, as detrimental to society may initially be perceived as plausible due to ... • 11. Annotated Bibliography On Database Encryption 1. INTRODUCTION Database Encryption is one of the technique used for securing the data in database. This method transforms information on a computer in such a way that it becomes unreadable. So, even if someone is able to gain access to a computer with personal data on it, they likely won t be able to do anything with the data unless they have original data key, complicated or expensive software. The main function of encryption is essentially to translate normal text into cipher text. Encryption makes sure that data doesn t get read by the wrong people, but can also ensure that data isn t altered in transit, and verify the identity of the sender. Data Encryption method typically uses a specified parameter or key to perform the data transformation. Some encryption algorithms require the key to be the same length as the message to be encoded, yet other encryption algorithms can operate on much smaller keys relative to the message. Encryption is most used among transactions over insecure channels of communication, such as the internet. Encryption is also used to protect data being transferred between devices such as mobile telephones, automatic teller machines (ATMs), and many more. Encryption can be used to create digital signatures, which allow a message to be authenticated. When properly implemented, a digital signature gives the recipient of a message reason to believe the message was sent by the claimed sender. 2. THREATS TO DATABASE 2.1 Database Databases are the ... In this piece of writing, Emerson explains how and why independence is what has created today s society. Emerson explains these thoughts by using metaphors, common sense, similes and imagery. Emerson starts off by stating that everyone is very common but also very different. For example, when Emerson says, Every heart vibrates to that iron string (Pg. 591, Line 37), he expresses that people are very similar. A matter of fact, there is an actual study that shows when a human being listens to music, the beat of your heart goes with the rhythm of the music. This piece of the puzzle has one powerful image. Another reason why Emerson wrote this piece like he did, was that we need to go with the feeling of our gut. Because if a person thinks about a decision for too long, that person will miss your chance. Another quote is, Let the subject be what it may (Pg. 591, Line 2). There are 2 forms of Trypanosoma brucei, these being bloodstream form and the procyclic form (Colasante et al. 2006). The bloodstream form should be eradicated by the adaptive immune response, but this is prevented by the variable surface glycoproteins(Overath et al. 1994). It represents the process whereby modern organisms descend from ancient ancestors. Lamarck s theory of Inheritance of Acquired Characteristics has been disproved. This was done in two major ways. The first is by experimentation using the scientific method. We have seen numerous real life phenomenon and observed that changes that occur in an organism during life are not passed on to the offspring. If a dog s back limbs are damaged and unusable, its offspring are still born with all legs usable. This and other such examples show that Lamarck s theory does not explain how life formed and became the way it is. Secondly, Lamarck s theory has been proven wrong by the study of genetics. Darwin knew that traits are passed on, but he never understood how they are passed on. During the time when Darwin published is first research on evolution, Gregor Mendel, who discovered genetics, was just starting his experiments. However, now we know extensively about genetics, and we know that the only way for traits to be passed on is through genes, and that genes cannot be affected by the outside world. The only thing that can be affected is which gene sets there are in a population, and this is determined by which individuals die and which ones live. Best known for it s dreamlike scenes of irrational and often surprising substance, the movement spoke to the unconscious mind of humankind with the semiotic balance between reality and fiction. Artists of this era turned and merged everyday objects into contradictory and irrational works of art, giving rise to new forms of thought and creation (Mikos, 2013). Andre Breton, the founder of surrealism was inspired by Sigmund Freuds view of the unconscious mindand how this information could shape society. • 23. Legislative Branches Of The United States Essay In the United States, we have a Constitution that divides our federal government into three branches that carry out different jobs and consist of important leaders to help with laws and other aspects of the country. There is the Legislative Branch, Executive Branch, and the Judicial Branch. Although the three branches are all very different in what they can do and perform, they are all still equal. We equalize these branches by a system we call Our System of Checks and Balances. Legislative Branch is where the laws are made, and it consists of the Senate and House of Representatives. The Executive Branch is where the laws are carried out. This branch includes the President, Vice President and the Cabinet. The Judicial Branch interprets and applies laws, and this branch consists of the Supreme Court and all the other courts. The Legislative Branch checks over the Executive Branch by overriding presidential vetoes and also by impeaching and convicting presidents in the Executive branch. The Legislative Branch checks over the Judicial Branch of our government by impeaching federal judges and Supreme Court justices. The Legislative branch also has the ability of confirming or refusing judges or justices for elections for the Judicial Branch. There are many roles in each branch of our government. The Speaker of the House is both the presiding officer of the House of Representatives and the leader of the majority party. The speaker is also second in charge to the vice ... • 24. The Importance Of Vitamin C Humans are among one of the few species that are unable to make vitamin C, making vitamin C an essential micronutrient. The location site for the absorption of vitamin C happens in the small intestine and absorbs 50 percent or less of vitamin C when the intake is one gram or more a day (Schiff 294). Taking large amounts of vitamin Ccan be wasteful because as the intake of vitaminC increases the amount absorbed by the small intestine decreases (Schiff 294). Good sources of vitamin C are found in plant foods. Some of these foods that contain high amounts of vitamin C include peppers, citrus fruit, papaya, broccoli, and berries. Vitamin C does not function as part of coenzyme as do B vitamins, but the vitamin served as a nutrient cofactor that facilitates certain chemical reactions (Schiff 294). Vitamin C carries out a variation of important cellular functions such as donating electrons to other compounds (Schiff 294). Vitamin C takes part in reactions that form and maintains collagen, which is a fibrous protein that gives strength to connective tissue (Schiff 295). Another function vitamin C has is that it can act as an antioxidant by giving electrons to radicals (Schiff 295). Vitamin C also has a role in the immune function in the body, and it is necessary for the synthesis of bile and also certain neurotransmitters (Schiff 295). Vitamin C may be very beneficial to the body but like any other type of vitamin there can also be deficiency s or toxicities. If in the body ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 25. Relationship Between Colonialism And Archaeology One of the major topics in Anthropology today is the link between colonialism and archaeology. Moro Abadia (2006) explains that during most of the twentieth century, the history of archaeology has been an eloquent example of colonial discourse , by which colonialist groups constitute the field of truth about the past by imposing specific knowledge, practices and values upon colonized groups. Moro Abadia (2006) explains three ways that the history of archaeologyacted as a tool of knowledge power about the past within which he says some colonialist practices have come into being. The first way being that historians of archaeology have promoted a romantic image of the archaeological practices in colonized countries. From this studying colonial settings in the past has been an activity that seeks to justify the seizure of lands and the abuse of indigenous people, but were known as popular histories that told of amazing explorations in order to capture the public s interests (Trigger, 1989). Indiana Jones is a great example of a story of archaeological discovery of abandoned monuments, mysterious cities or ancient treasures (Moro Abadia, 2006). Many popular historiographical accounts today focus on archaeology in colorized regions that as Moro Abadia (2006) describes, constitutes the geography of Western romantic imagery in countries such as Egypt and Mesopotamia. The second way being that they usually leave out the connections between the consolidation of archaeology as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

If these courtesies are not followed, the offending soldier can, and almost always will, be punished. This punishment can come in the form of corrective training, known commonly as essays, extra duty and can go as far as court martial, jail time and/or being discharged from the military. In his poem, But love whilst that thou mayst be loved again , he focuses on warning women to find love soon because beauty will not last with age. He compares a woman s beauty to a flower: the fairest flower that ever saw the light / men do not weigh the stalk for what it was / when they find her flower, her glory, pass (Daniel 6, 13 14). Through this metaphor, he shows how men view beauty in love. No one looks at a dead flower and thinks about what it used to be, rather, he or she looks towards other flowers that bloom with life and colour. This sonnet begins as an admiration for his subject s beauty, but it ends by telling the subject that when her physical beauty deteriorates, no one will love her. This poem reflects society s fixation on superficial beauty because it reminds women that they will never find love without external beauty, as a result of the superficiality of men in society. Both poems of the Renaissance Period assert the idea of perfection and the importance of physical beauty in love and relationships. Victorian era poets continue to propound the importance of superficial beauty. The School by Donald Barthelme and The Giver by Louis Lowry explore death as a common theme throughout the short story and the novel. The School is a short story told from the perspective of a teacher at what seems to be an elementary or middle school. The story, consisting of a mere 1200 words, follows the numerous tragedies the school faces over roughly a month long timespan. The Giveris a novel about a dystopian society and is told from the perspective of a young boy named Jonas. The story follows Jonas journey in becoming the Receiver of Memory at age twelve, which is the normal age to be assigned a career in this society, and how he learns the truth about the world that he lives in. In The School, death is a very obvious theme. Barthelme uses death as the central theme and portrays it in a very humorous way. Whereas in The Giver, death, in terms of it being a theme, is very subtle and serious. This is shown in numerous ways throughout each story. Though death is treated differently in both The Giver and The School, and the message behind each work is different, the dystopian aspect connects the stories by exemplifying the lack of emotion and dehumanization of the characters in each story. This angered God and he plagued the citizens of Ashdod with tumors and swarmed the territory with rats.
