Networks Before The Cloud Of Cloud Computing
Networks before the Cloud
Cloud computing is the practice of using remote storage for applications and data. The idea itself is
not a new one; it has been in use for many years albeit under different names. In the earliest days of
the computer age machines had to be physically large to contain the hardware required to do their
jobs. It was impractical and prohibitively expensive to provide one of these mainframes for individual
users; not to mention for what they were used for, unnecessary. Instead, one central computer was
wired to several terminals that users could interface with. Typically, only large organizations such as,
major corporations or government agencies could afford one of these machines or had need of one.
This was the birth of cloud computing. Until the early 1980s this system was typical for any
organization requiring large amounts of processing power. It was considered unnecessary and difficult
to put the nuts and bolts of applications onto users desktop machines. Rather, by keeping applications
in a central location, they could be managed and updated more easily and large amounts of storage
space and processing power were not needed on desktop machines. Indeed, before this time there were
no desktop machines mass produced that could achieve this level of power. This was about to change.
Moore s law is the observation that, over the history of computing hardware, the number of transistors
in a dense integrated circuit has doubled approximately every

Fashion At The Edge, By Gaby Wood
In Caroline Evans book, Fashion at the Edge, she looks at the fashions from all ages but goes most
deeply into the fashion of the 1990 s and the themes that were very apparent in that particular time.
She expands on these themes in chapters throughout her book such as Deathliness, Spectacle, Horror
and Glamour. She relates all these themes back to the influences of the 20th century and the rise of the
commodity obsessed culture, modernism and capitalism and the metaphorical death it brings to our
world. This essay will focus on the image of Dolly Mixture that was featured in a fashion spread in
2000 that was written by Gaby Wood, which is found in the Deathliness chapter. I will review Evans
chapter and her analysis of the themes and idea proposed by Evans herself and other theorists. I will
use these themes and ideas to make my own predictions about the effects these theories would have on
the future of our society and our fashion here in New Zealand.
Evans starts the chapter of with exploring the idea of living dolls. She explains that these living dolls
are actually human beings, mostly women that are becoming or have become objects through the
course of modeling clothes. There are several European designers who have seen this issue and have
played on this idea in the late 1990 s, such designers like Martin Margiela, Alexander McQueen and
Hussein Chalayan. They replaced real life models with dummies, as they called it, or by using the
model to resemble a dummy by

Building The Civilized Workplace
In regard to your development of a 75 minute module on Executive Leadership and Workplace issues,
I have discovered important information that may be useful. I read both Building the Civilized
Workplace by Robert Sutton and The Smart Talk Trap by Jeffery Pfeffer and Robert Sutton. Each
article was well written and clearly professional; I would recommend that you use both of these
articles to include into your module. The two articles complement each other by having similar
underlying themes, and they will help your students become strong leaders. Building the Civilized
Workplace by Robert Sutton has a clear cut message: don t be a jerk. The article covers how negativity
in the workplace dramatically diminishes the success of a business.

History And Outlook Of A Popular Chain Coffee Shop, Starbucks
Brewing Innovation, an article by Shezray Husain, Feroz Khan, and Waqas Mirza in 2014 for London
Business School, focuses on the history and outlook of a popular chain coffee shop, Starbucks. By
discussing a brief history of the café brand and its rise and fall through the economic crisis of 2008, it
was clear that the company managed so proficiently due to strategic moves made by leadership. The
article explored how the company centered it focus on its consumers and building itself a priority spot
in the community by utilizing customer opinions and social media. In fact, by doing so, the
corporation not only survive the 2008 economic downfall, but thrived to become of the innovative
leaders of the 21st century (Lemus, Feingenblatt, Orta, Rivero, 2015.) By executing strategic moves in
five phases, the company bounced back to become a main staple in everyday life. Starbucks is present
in 50 states in the US and 43 countries. It is one of the most respected brands, winning awards such as
Best Business , Most Admired Company , 100 Best Corporate Citizens and so on (Husain, Khan,
Mirza, 2014.) Starbuck s current position amongst its competitors is clear in that all others fall behind.
However, as explained in the article, this was not always the case. Very few businesses faced little
turmoil when the recession took place. Starbucks Corporation did not escape this fate, but instead of
continuing to tread water, the company brought on a different CEO who held a different

Political And Economic Strengths Of The Inca And The Aztecs
The Mesoamerican Empires, the Inca and the Aztec, both lasted for about a century, the Aztec Empire
lasted from 1440 1521 CE and the Inca Empire from 1438 1532 CE. Migrating tribes who settled in
central Mexico formed the Aztec Empire. The Inca Empire began as one tribe that conquered
neighboring groups of people and eventually developed into a unified empire. The Aztecs and the
Incas both present political and economic strengths; however, the Incas established a stronger empire
due to advanced government and intelligent taxation techniques of imperial administration.
The Aztecs and the Incas both unified their empires through central cities, shared language,
centralized government, national religion, and military force. These subjects all require the people in
the empires to be loyal to the emperor. By establishing a capital with one language, and one religion, a
ruler gave the members of the empire a sense of belonging and safety. This sense of belonging unified
the empire and the emperor gained the loyalty of their people. The building of Cuzco and
Tenochtitlan, the capitals of the Inca and Aztec empires, was the first step for each empire to officially
becoming an empire. Through the native languages of the Aztecs, Nahuatl, and the Incas, Quechua,
the rulers were able to communicate within the empire and form alliances with neighboring empires.
The Aztecs formed a triple alliance with Tenochtitlan, Texcoco, and Tlacopan. The two empires had
strong centralized governments

Dealing with Missing Information in a Data Warehouse
Today businesses are investing many resources in building data warehouses and data marts to obtain
timely and actionable information that will give them better business insight. This will enable them to
achieve, among other things, sustainable competitive advantage, increased revenues and a better
bottom line.
In the early 90s, data warehousing applications were either strategic or tactical in nature. Trending and
detecting patterns was the typical focus of many solutions. Now, companies are implementing data
warehouses or operational data stores which meet both strategic and operational needs. The business
need for these solutions usually comes from the desire to make near ... Show more content on

In this scenario, the incoming fact records are stored for reprocessing and flagged as incomplete.
These facts are then cycled back as input the next time the fact table is built. One can try reprocessing
the fact record until there is no more missing information.
When correcting the missing information, consider the following questions. * Does the fact record
only come from the source system once? * Is there a possibility that a row will become associated
with a dummy dimension record because of edits? * Can changes or fixes to related dimensions result
in the reassignment of dummy foreign keys to correct values?
If the answer to all three of these questions is yes, then reprocessing may be required. The final test is
to balance the cost of development versus the benefits of implementation. Is this type of error likely to
occur, and is ultimately obtaining the correct information of value to the organization? If yes, then
reprocess the fact record.
If you have determined that reprocessing is required, you may either update the fact record or back out
the original fact record with an offset entry followed by the insertion of the correct fact record.

Formation of the ASCI and Leading Cases of False Advertising
NTRODUCTION
An advertisement is defined as a paid for communication, addressed to the Public or a section of it, the
purpose of which is to influence the opinions or behaviour of those to whom it is addressed. Any
communication which in the normal course would be recognised as an advertisement by the general
public would be included in this definition even if it is carried free of charge for any reason. The
Advertising Standards Council of India Code.
Advertising is a means of communication with the users of a product or service. Advertisements are
messages paid for by those who send them and are intended to inform or influence people who receive

An advertisement, therefore, is a method of communication between the producer and the consumer, a
sharing of information by the producer. Its purpose is to educate the customer about various goods and
services available in the market, helping the customer make a choice between products whose benefits
are unknown to a layman, i.e., the customer.
Therefore, advertising firms and producers hold a lot of power over the consumers in the market. This
lack of knowledge of the consumers and the propensity to spend money economically can be exploited
through advertisements. And like any organisation driven by a profit motive, producers take advantage
of the consumers by making false and misleading advertisements.
These advertisements have a lot of unwanted effects. Advertising affects the

Cosmopolit Not The Drink
Cosmopolitan... Not the Drink! The word cosmopolitanism, derived from Greek, means that humans
are part of a global civilization. Cosmos signifies the earth, and polis means city or state. The
Enlightenment philosophers Emmanuel Kant and Baron de Montesquieu interpreted the idea slightly
differently but fundamentally agreed that it entails the communication and exchange of varied
cultures, especially through commerce. Cosmopolitism is not to be confused with legal pluralism,
discussed by Lauren Benton and Lisa Ford, which is the continuation of numerous, somewhat
independent legal structures inside one region existing simultaneously. Though they seem similar at
first glance, legal pluralism has been proven to be a failure, while ... Show more content on

These two drastically different societal groups are still accountable to the same rules. Anthony Anghie,
a professor at the University of Utah, wrote in his book, Imperialism, Sovereignty and the Making of
International Law, the universal system of divine law administered by the Pope is replaced by the
universal natural law system of jus gentium whose rules may be ascertained by the use of reason
(Anghie, 325). Reason is a human characteristic, so everyone, from natives of South America to
religious Spanish Catholics can understand the universal laws. Because all people use their reason to
determine universal laws, all cultures share certain values. Grotius, a believer in universal law, argued
that God, wished human friendships to be engendered by mutual needs and resources (Grotius, 1). The
needs of humanity cannot be met in just one geographical location, so global trading is required. The
interaction of these different cultures, by means of commerce, results in the creation of the
cosmopolitan. One society may be able to harvest a certain product better than another, so mutual
respect and principles for all of humanity are required. Without it, humanity will not have access to all
of the creations of the world, and economic activity and trade would be substantially diminished. Kant
wrote in his work, Perpetual Peace: A Philosophical Sketch, that he believed peace was achieved
through commerce. Commerce globalizes and interconnects

Introduction
Pericyclic reactions is a concerted rearrangement of the electrons with a cyclic transition state, which
cause sigma and π bonds to simultaneously break and form. There are numerous examples of both
unimolecular and bimolecular concerted reactions. Pericyclic reactions are usually rearrangement
reactions. We discuss several categories of concerted pericyclic reactions, including Diels Alder and
other cycloaddition reactions, electrocyclic reactions, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

For more understanding of this stereoselectivity the HOMO (High Occupied Molecular Orbital) of the
acyclic conjugated polyene should be considered. Also, the investigation of the p orbitals on the
terminal carbons of the HOMO determine the orientation of the orbitals that the like phases are on the
same side or on opposite sides of the molecule (Figure 1). Figure 1
In general, electrocyclic rearrangement occurs only when like phases of orbitals overlap and form a
bond. Two methods are possible for orbitals rotation. When like phases of the p orbitals are on the
same side of the molecule, the two orbitals must rotate in opposite directions, one clockwise and one
counterclockwise. Rotation in opposite directions is said to be disrotatory. When like phases of the p
orbitals are on opposite sides of the molecule, the two orbitals must rotate in the same direction, both
clockwise or both counterclockwise. Rotation in the same direction is said to be conrotatory (Figure

Prediction Of Home Prices Of A Metropolitan Area
Prediction of home prices. Using the above regression equation, one can determine the expected home
prices of a metropolitan area based on the median income of that area. For a metropolitan area with
income at 100,000, putting the value into the regression equation, one gets 2016 Median Price to be
269.7 + 0.008357 * 100,000 = 269.7 + 835.7 = 566. The expected median home price = $566,000.
Residual plots. Using Minitab, the histogram and the normal probability plot of the residuals are
shown in chart 2. The histogram shows the majority of the residuals are in the middle and centered on
the mean of zero, while the tails have a lower number of residuals, while in the normal probability
plot, the majority of the dots are close to the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It appears that in earlier years 2011 and 2006, household income account for a larger portion of the
changes in home prices (around 64%) compared to the recent years from 2014 to 2016 (around 55%).
Does the relationship between income and home prices differ among metropolitan areas of different
sizes? Using the dotplot in chart 3, one can categorize the metropolitan areas base on the number of
households, into small (households less than 150,000), large (households = 350,000) and medium
(those in between). The sample numbers of small, medium, and large are 63, 57, and 54 respectively.

Trump V. Hilary Case Study
Trump v. Hilary: Finding Clarity in the Chaos As a barely twenty year old junior at a sheltered private
college, I have to confess that it s been very hard to conceptualize and realize the severity of the 2016
election. What started off as a race of what seemed like a million different candidates, the polls
quickly zoned in on two candidates we could ve never predicted to be the voting citizens final choice.
It s both overwhelming, and simple, deceitful, and truthful this election seems to be full of
contradictions and half truths, and the opaque nature of a once seemingly transparent media
complicates matters further in an election that seems convoluted even on paper. Along with the
legislative branch, the media itself has turned into a monster we never thought we d have to wrangle.
We are surrounded by propaganda, caricatures, and cartoons everywhere we turn, especially in print

By observing two separate covers of The New Yorker depicting Hilary Rodham Clinton and Donald
John Trump in two very different lights, we can explore the volatility of the election as revealed
through the overly satirical (yet still somber) manipulation of this peculiar electoral race. As with most
electoral races, the media takes on the role of portraying images of candidates to the public. The
motives behind these conscious, deliberate decisions vary greatly, but the results are always interesting
to dissect. Starting with the June 20, 2016 issue of The New Yorker, we see a depiction of Secretary
Clinton mid fight, sitting in the corner of a boxing ring (appropriate following the death of
Muhammad Ali), sporting her confident, signature grin despite all the

An Argument Against Abortion Essay
Abortion in America is a controversial issue in which both
sides have valid arguments at face value. The pro choice side has many
arguments to support it belief in keeping abortion legal. Many of these are
faulty, and argue points irrelevant to the issue as I will attempt to
illustrate, thereby eliminating the main pro choice arguments.
The pro life position has somewhat different ideas. The most
popular of these is: The unborn entity is fully human from the moment of
conception. Abortion results in the intentional death of the unborn entity.
Therefore, abortion can be defined the intentional killing of a human being.
This killing is in most cases unjustified, since the unborn human being has a ... Show more content on

The reason this argument doesn t work is because it is begging
the question. In fact, this lie hides behind a good percentage of the popular
arguments for the pro choice position. One begs the question when one assumes
what one is trying to prove is correct.
The question begging of the coat hanger argument is very obvious: but only by
assuming that the unborn are not fully human does the argument work. If the
unborn are not fully human, then the pro choicer has a legitimate concern,
just as one would have in overturning a law forbidding appendicitis
operations if countless people were needlessly dying of both appendicitis and
illegal operations. But if the unborn are fully human, this pro choice
argument is the same as saying that because people die or are harmed while
killing other people, the state should make it safe for them to do so.
Even some pro choicers, who argue for their position in other ways, admit
that the
coat hanger/back alley argument is crap. Although statistics cant establish
a particular moral position, there has been arguments over both the actual
number of illegal abortions and the number of women who died as a result of
them before legalization. Prior to Roe vs Wade, pro choicers used saying that
nearly a million women every year obtained illegal abortions performed

Our heritage and ideals, our hieroglyphics and manual to live, the things we fulfil we teach our

Essay The Popularity of The Burns and Allen Show
Vaudeville was very popular from the late 1800s to the early 1900s in North America. Vaudeville
shows were made up of many random acts that were placed together in a common play bill. Some acts
were, for example, plays, clowns, jugglers, comedians, etc. Once the radio was introduced, vaudeville
s started to become less popular as the radio s popularity started to increase. The radio started out with
maximum five programs but as the demand for radios increased so did the amount of programs, which
went up to almost 500. Radios was the place families and friends gathered to hear the news, sporting
events, music, entertainment, etc. One show millions of people listened to was The Burns and Allen

When Allen heard about the break up between comedian partners Lorraine and Burns, Allen decided
to make a partnership between Lorraine. Confusing Burns for Lorraine, Burns accepted but did not tell
Allen the truth. Three days into their partnership, Burns finally confessed to Allen about the mixing up
of identities. However, Allen vowed to try and succeed in the comedy business with Burns as a
partner. Starting out as vaudevillians, Burns and Allen performed in different theatres and later signed
a five year contract with Keith Theater. Being known as the most popular acts in the United States,
Allen was invited to be a guest star on the radio. When CBS noticed how talented Burns and Allen
were on the radio, CBS offered a contract. The shift between theater and radio was an advantage in the
development of domestic situation comedy. Domestic situation comedy gave the audience a sneak
peek into Burns and Allen s private lives, while pretending to be themselves during the performance.
The Burns and Allen Show were soon in the top 5 shows, having millions of listeners weekly. Burns
and Allen would at times do things that would really grab attention from the audience. For example,
when she was looking for her lost brother George, Allen went from radio station to radio station
announcing George s disappearance. George was an accountant in San Francisco and was forced into

Death In Kurt Vonnegut s A Tale Of Two Cities
Death can be seen all throughout life, and all deaths can be for different reasons, whether those
reasons be noble, villainous, or, in most cases, simply neither. Throughout both A Tale of Two Cities,
written by Charles Dickens, and Slaughterhouse Five, written by Kurt Vonnegut, death can be seen as
a common topic betwixt both novels at one point or another, albeit each topic of death can be very
different at times. Charles Dickens is a beloved author, responsible for many classic works such as A
Tale of Two Cities. He was born February 7, 1812, in Portsmouth, England. He was the second oldest
child of eight total, living most of his early life in Chatham, Kent, and Camden Town. When Dickens
was 12 years old, his father, John Dickens, was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In Slaughterhouse Five, death is taken in a light manner, and is seen by the main protagonist, Billy
Pilgrim, shows death throughout his experiences in the book as an impermanent and weightless event,
which is the complete opposite of how Dickens portrays death. Throughout Slaughterhouse Five,
Vonnegut places the words So it goes. after every death, or multiple deaths seen at roughly the same
time, eventually explaining this phrase as something the Tralfamadorians say after somebody because
everyone is alive forever, even if at different times, so therefore death is meaningless in the eyes of
those in Slaughterhouse Five. The message about death that Slaughterhouse Five attempts to bring is
far different than the message A Tale of Two Cities attempts to bring. While Slaughterhouse Five tries
to tell us that death is meaningless and holds no weight, A Tale of Two Cities tries to tell us that death
holds a lot of weight in the world, and that in some cases can be the most meaningful thing in the
world. Vonnegut throughout his book takes a tone that is aloof or uncaring when it comes to death, a
tone that tells us that he thinks death is meaningless, or weightless, whereas we can see that Dickens
takes a more serious tone when it comes to death, showing that he has a deep respect for meaningful
death, albeit when when he thinks that there is a pointless death, his tone changes to one of frustration
or chastising. Vonnegut, on the other hand, keeps the same tone about death throughout the entire
book, never changing his tone when an important death happens, or when a meaningful death occurs,
but always keeps the same tone that says that he believes death holds no weight, in complete contrast
to Dickens, who, no matter the circumstance, whether the death is important or meaningless, always
seems to keep some level of respect for death in the way he talks about it.

From our class, there are three major religions in China, Confucianism, Taoism and Buddhism. Unlike
Buddhism, both of Taoism and Confucianism were found in China, therefore most of these two
religions are similar, but some of them are different, such as beliefs. The reason is that these two
religions were found by different people, so that they have different understanding of life and world.
Both of Taoism and Confucianism were found at the similar age, but different leaders lead these two
religions to have different concepts. Taoism was found by Lao Tzu, who was a curator of Chou
dynasty. He emphasized that the close relationship between human and nature is the most important
concept in Taoism. Natural place such as mountains and rivers are ... Show more content on

is not inherent, and it is accumulate during the lifelong learning.
On the other hand, Confucians are taught by Four books and Five Classics that included history,
poetry, rites and many different subjects. In this way, Confucians could learn much more useful
knowledge than Taoism, and it also make its scholars and students become literate so that it will make
a good effort on developing the country. In my opinion, Confucianism is a religion, which is focused

Dumb Transgende Stereotypes In Media
Stereotypes are prominent in all aspects of the media. These stereotypes almost always have a
negative connotation and although there is sometimes truth behind a stereotype, they are almost
always based on constructions. The stereotypes in the media are visual therefore they allow the viewer
to engage with it and take in its meaning. In countless films and television shows, blondes are
represented as being unintelligent. This dumb blonde stereotype is the idea that blonde haired people
are less intelligent than those of darker hair. Although there is no scientific proof that blondes are less
smart than those of other hair colors it still seems to be one of the most popular stereotypes portrayed
in the media.

In Sturken and Cartwright s essay Modernity: Spectatorship, Power and Knowledge they discuss the
gaze and that it is to look or stare, often with eagerness or desire (76). Sturken and Cartwright also use
Laura Mulvey s idea of the male gaze as an example. Mulvey proposed that the conventions of
popular narrative cinema are structured by a patriarchal unconscious, positioning woman represented
in films as objects as a male gaze (76). The male gaze is closely related to the stereotype of the dumb
blonde. The character of the dumb blonde is always represented as highly sexual and attractive and is,
therefore, the misogynistic male viewer. The blonde woman has put in films as the weak, helpless,
stupid character. This is a result of the male gaze because women are seen as inferior to men in all
aspects and are there solely for the males entertainment. Since this stereotype is so prominent in the
media it has circulated into everyday society. In Gilman s essay What are Stereotypes and Why Use
Texts to Study Them? he states that everyone creates stereotypes... the creation of stereotypes is a
concomitant of the process by which all human beings become individuals (17).

Essay on Thrasymachus’ Views on Justice
The position Thrasymachus takes on the definition of justice, as well as its importance in society, is
one far differing from the opinions of the other interlocutors in the first book of Plato s Republic.
Embracing his role as a Sophist in Athenian society, Thrasymachus sets out to aggressively dispute
Socrates opinion that justice is a beneficial and valuable aspect of life and the ideal society.
Throughout the course of the dialogue, Thrasymachus formulates three major assertions regarding
justice. These claims include his opinion that justice is nothing other than the advantage of the
stronger, it is just to obey the rulers, and justice is really the good of another [...] and harmful to the
one who obeys and serves. Socrates ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Furthermore, justice in its true form cannot be used solely for the advantage of the stronger without
the masses acknowledging the injustices being imposed upon them, as Thrasymachus suggests is the
case. For justice is one of the many characteristics of morality, which is considered to be intrinsic
based on an inner conviction.7 Therefore, if the many were acting against said inner conviction wholly
for the benefit of the stronger, would they not experience a natural feeling of injustice? This argument
alike can be used to refute another of Thrasymachus primary claims that justice is really the good of
another [...] and harmful to the one who obeys and serves. 3
In addition to his definition, Thrasymachus argues the value of justice as a human or societal
characteristic, claiming that injustice is far more beneficial to the individual. Thrasymachus asserts
that tyranny: makes the doer of injustice happiest and the sufferers of it, who are unwilling to do
injustice, most wretched.[...] injustice, if it is on a large enough scale, is stronger, freer, and more
masterly than justice.5
To decide whether an unjust man finds more happiness than a just man does, one must understand the
true meaning of the word. The dictionary defines happiness as characterized by pleasure, contentment,
or joy. 8 Thrasymachus typifies the unjust man as someone who is constantly seeking self fulfillment,

Praxis And Synergy In Health Care
Modules of Potentiation: praxis and synergy in public health complex emergency interventions
The UN defines complex emergencies (CE) as, a major humanitarian crisis, of a multi causal nature
that requires a system wide response. I set out to determine if public health interventions in complex
emergency settings are useful; if so, how can they be efficaciously implemented. I hypothesize that a
triad of multilateral military actors, international health institutions, and civilian humanitarian
organizations− working as a closely coordinated coalition will optimize health outcomes. Via an
aggregation of current peer reviewed articles, I have found the most vital, practical and effective
modules for health interventions in CEs. These modules ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Professor Michael A. Peters
13 August 2015 Exploring citizenship, global citizenship, and global citizenship education
Abstract
With the progression of globalization, the recognition of how to be a good citizen and how to act as a
good citizen in the global age has drawn more and more attention. In addition, the direction of
education shifts from the knowledge and skills dissemination to building global values to be well
connected in the world. This paper aims to indicate multiple understandings of citizenship and
specifically interprets three dimensions of citizenship: citizenship as a status, as a practice and as a
feeling. Besides, understandings about global citizenship will be explored as well. Last but not the
least, how global citizenship education is applied to the concepts of citizenship and global citizenship
in order to be a good citizen and act as a good citizen.
Citizenship
With regard to the concepts of citizenship, there have been a significant variety of understandings.
Specifically, in Marshall s perspective (1950, p30), citizenship consists of civil, political, and social
citizenship. In addition, Marshall argues that the development of civil citizenship expanded, involving
political citizenship and social citizenship. Based on the three dimension model of citizenship,
Marshall, in

Hospice care is a team of health care providers who take care of patients who are in the last stages of a
serious illness (1). For example, patients with cancer, HIV infection, heart disease, dementia, kidney
failure, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, and some neurological disorders (2). This care can be
provided by people other than health care providers, it can be done by patient s family members (2).
The goal of a hospice care is not to find a cure for the disease, however, it aims to give a good quality
of life for patients who suffer from terminal illness by medical therapy, emotional support and make
them feel comfortable (3).

To think that the world we live in today would be drastically different, if it was not for the
innumerable amount of philosophers and physiocrats who had contributed their minds and time to
various subjects. Ranging from Voltaire to John Locke, these fellow men and women have helped
excel our progress to a better future; One splendid example is a fellow French man by the name of
François Quesnay. François Quesnay, similar to other scholars of his time, believed there were
numerous flaws within society and how we the people, live our daily lives. Furthermore, contributing

agriculture has the capability to generate a vast amount of income for the nation when the setting is

Michael Jackson Impact
Michael Jackson
Many musicians shaped the music of the 20th century, but few had a lasting impact. Research and
discover how your musician or band affected popular music of their day, and their contribution lives

didn t just start out famous he had to take steps to get there. First he had to join a family band called
the Jackson 5. Then after that he went big time. Michael Jackson impacted Rock Roll by putting a pop
spin on it, he won 19 grammy awards, plus he was inducted into the Rock Roll hall of fame, making
him one of the most loved musicians in the 20th century.
Michael Jackson got his start, but it took a while for him to figure out how good he actually was. It all
started by Michaels brother Tito breaking a string on his father s guitar. The his brothers had to prove
they were good enough (Geaves, 2001). After his father found out how good they were he decided to
create a band out of them called the Jackson 5. Then the family started bonding after Tito got his
guitar from his dad (Geaves, 2001)The Jackson 5 was greatly impacting how the family got along. All

Sign Language Should Be Taught In Public Schools Essay
There are many opportunities in the world today. But has anyone ever stopped to think if they are the
right ones? Public schools have languages they offer to take as an elective to learn and use later in life.
Usually Spanish, French, German and Japanese. But what about the people who cannot speak or hear
a language? What are they supposed to do? Not giving equal opportunities to all students is quite
unfair. That s why I propose that there should be sign language courses taught in public schools.
There are, of course, thousands of schools around the world for the deaf or hard of heating. To me,
that sounds very secluded. To make a special school for a group of people because they re different in
some way, well I don t think that sounds fair. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This would teach all heating children priceless communication skills and encourage their physical
fluidity, expressiveness, and development. And not only would it get rid of received prejudices
towards the deaf or partially heating (based on healing adults fear of being unable to communicate
without awkwardness) but it would end the disability status of the deaf.
Deaf Connections is a charity in Scotland that is spearheading the first steps towards a project like the
one Richard Sinnott proposed, by helping youngsters in Glasgow to learn the basic signing skills. The
project is being carried out in conjunction with Glasgow City Council s education department and is
being supported by a grant from the National Lottery.
Only 16 states in the U.S. have schools with the option of sign language in their schools. To me, that
number isn t nearly large enough. There should be options of sign language in every state. Better said
their needs to be fair opportunities in every state. Now in Portland Public Schools if a proposal for
sign language was made all that would be said is that there aren t enough funds. Well, how about we

Conflict Resolution Styles Paper
Conflicts can arise to an individual at any time and how a person utilizes conflict resolution strategies
depends on both their conflict style and conflict resolution skills. There are many ways to respond to
conflict situations with some styles involving a considerate or cooperative approach while others
involve either a competitive or passive approach (Hodges 2000). The online tools discussed can be
used to evaluate the conflict resolution styles as they may impact teamwork in different ways.
Individuals have different typical behaviors in conflict situations which is describable along two
dimensions that are assertiveness and cooperativeness. As a team and through the tools, we can
understand how interpersonal group dynamics are affected by conflict handling styles. It is a good tool
to help us make informed decisions about choosing an appropriate style when approaching a conflict

sets of concerns. Pairing is of so much concern when focusing on the collaborative conflict resolution

American Airlines Case Study
Introduction
This case study is about competition between American Airlines (AAL) and other airlines, as well as
the way AAL behaved in the face of new entries of low cost carriers (LLC) at AAL s Dallas Fort
Worth (DFW) hub. In this case study, economy of scope produced by a hub, the use of information
technology (IT) as a competitive advantage, and the use of loyalty program are discussed. AAL s use
of predatory pricing to drive out existing competitors, its reputation for predation, and the arguments
from both sides of the antitrust lawsuits are also studied.
Analysis
Background of American Airlines

AAL considered them a serious threat to its revenues and decided to counteract the competition
through matching prices and increasing capacity (Herb, 2007). Labaton and Zuckerman (1999) added
that the low cost carriers failed to sustain the operations and eventually moved away, after which
American resumed its prior marketing strategy of reducing the number of flights and raising its prices
to levels comparable to those before the low fare competition. Over the period 1994 1999, AAL have
higher profit margins on routes without Southwest Airlines or LCC competition, as it could raise
prices slowly without worrying about competitor reactions.
Economies at the hub. Major airlines acquire and maintain large market shares at their hubs even with
higher prices and higher costs than competitors. For example, AAL has a price 31 percent price
premium in DFW, a 70 percent share of the non stop passengers in DFW, and a higher cost per
available seat mile (ASM) due to union contracts. However, they achieve economies of scope and
scale that are not captured in the measures of cost per ASM (Edlin, Farrell, 2002). Economies of scope
come flight sharing from passengers flying to another destination beyond the hub, such as from
Wichita to Dallas then to Miami.
The Wichita Dallas flight (known as upline) creates additional traffic and profits on AAL s Dallas
Miami downline route, and as a result, AAL might sell the Wichita Dallas at very low

Span claims that the real villains existed in New York: Mayor John. F. Hylan and William Randolph
Hearst. Hylan had been fired from Kings County Elevated Railway in 1897, and was believed to have
had his own personal animosity toward transit companies (Span). In the 1920s, many transit
companies had a standard five cent fare that could no longer pay their extensive bills. Streetcars were
required to pay fixed franchise fees as well as provide street sweeping and snow clearance. This,
combined with fixed fairs, put transit companies under terrible financial pressure (Span). Meanwhile,
Hearst s paper stirred up public animosity towards the streetcars (Span). Hylan refused to aid transit

Sonnet 95 By William Shakespeare
Sonnet 95 follows what I would categorize as the hinge poem, meaning that Sonnet 94 is the poem
that, through its flattery underlined with some sort of malice, opens the door for the anger that follows
in the proceeding sonnet. The speaker has now fully understood that the young man has decided him,
having relations with another, and confronts him in this sonnet. There is such veracity in the lines that
a reader could easily imagine how the speaker would have said them to the young man, at a reasonable
volume with such edge to the voice it would seem some sort of malevolent contempt. Although, one

idea of managerial capitalism is no longer effective. After bashing the old idea of managerial
capitalism, Freeman starts explaining why his reconceptualized stakeholder concept is much more
logical. Freeman modestly articulates a stakeholder theory using the narrow definition of a
stakeholder, which includes those who are vital to the success and survival of a corporation.
Specifically, these stakeholders include owners, management, suppliers, employees, customers, and
the local community. As well as being directly connected with the corporation, Freeman argues that
the stakeholders are also interconnected with each other as well, and that each stakeholder is vital to
the survival of the corporation, and vice versa. Employees rely on the business to give them a
paycheck; the business provides their livelihood. Employees return the favor because they run the
business on a day to day basis. Suppliers are vital to the firm s success because the quality of the raw
materials purchased will determine the quality and price of the final good produced by the firm. As a
result, the firm is a customer of their supplier, and is therefore vital to their supplier s success. The

A second example of a metaphor is found when the author writes, Smoke is all, ... ,/ I ve been given to
remember (21 22). This is an example of a metaphor because it is comparing the smoke to death and
how he was too blinded by the other blessings he had received, and now regrets it. It connects with the
meaning of the poem because it shows how if something is neglected too much, it will eventually
disappear and come back to haunt the neglecter, and the only memories that will be left to remember it
by is the smoke that it leaves behind. The third literacy device that was found throughout the poem is
connotation, which the author uses frequently in the poem. The first quote is, Is the scent of apple
boughs smoking in the woodstove what I will remember... (1 4). The word smoke in this poem is a
connotation because it carries a meaning of sadness and death. In every quote the author has it in it
brings a feeling of sadness and how he was too blind to see that death was on the verge for his loved
apple tree. It connects with the poem with its ability to change the mood from what seemed to be the
author becoming happier, back to the depressing tone that was throughout the poem. It kept reminding
the reader of the fateful death that the tree went through and the author s sadness. The second
connotation is later in the same sentence, ... of the Red Delicious I brought down... (1 4). The phrase
Red Delicious is said twice

The Use Of Ritalin, By Brand Name, And Methylphenidate Or...
Introduction of Medication The medication covered in this article is called Ritalin, by brand name, and
Methylphenidate or Methylphenidylacetate hydrochloride are the generic names. Ritalin can be habit
forming and with over extended use a tolerance is built up, requiring more of the drug to be taken in
order to feel the same effects. A person using this medication can develop severe depression just from
suddenly stopping this drug after their overuse of it. To get off of this medication, it requires gradual
dosage lowering and monitoring by a physician to lessen negative withdrawal effects, (MedlinePlus,
2016). The primary use for Ritalin today has been for dulling symptoms of attention deficit
hyperactivity disorder children and adults. Ritalin is also used to treat narcolepsy. Narcolepsy is a
sleep disorder where the brain is not effectively regulating sleeping and waking cycles. Ritalin is part
of the central nervous system stimulants which work by altering brain chemistry, and holding back
some neurotransmitters and dulling some receptors to temporarily and artificial mimic a sense of calm
and focus while under the influence of the medicine, (MedlinePlus, 2016). Ritalin is prescribed as a
tablets or capsules to be taken daily by dosages at the discretion of the physician. Treatment of ADHD
with stimulants, often in conjunction with psychotherapy, helps to improve ADHD symptoms along
with the patient s self esteem, thinking ability, and social and family interactions,

Research finds that the employees realized many difficulties of the modification of work routines,
especially concerning work performance, professional knowledge, and professional role, but
employees recognized the change as an opportunity for the acquisition of knowledge and competence
development. Griffin, (1991) studies the Effects of Work Redesign on Employee Perceptions,
Attitudes, and Behaviors. A Long Term Investigation. The results emerged from this study shows a
pattern that holds clear implications for practicing managers and task design intellectuals. First, the
task redesign hindrance significantly distorted employee perceptions in the expectation and desired
directions. Furthermore, the altered perceptions remained at their new level for the duration of the
study. Second, attitudes including satisfaction and commitment also increased quickly but then
reduced back to their initial levels. Finally, performance did not increase initially, but did increase a lot
by the end of the study period. For empirical researchers, perhaps the most important finding from this
study was the differential pattern of changes across time periods. Researchers need to be more
sensitive to the nature of perceptual, attitudinal, and behavioral variables. The findings reported here
emphasize the need to retain work redesign as a practical tool for enhancing

Russell Foster Sleep
Russell Foster is a British professor and a circadian neuroscientist at Brasenose College. He studies
the sleep cycles of the brain. He and his group were credited for discovering photosensitive ganglion
cells in the mammalian retina. This discovery will help to find more information about the circadian
rhythm system. In 1980, Foster graduated from the University of Bristol with a degree in Zoology. He
has earned many awards for his work and is also the author of a few books. Russell Foster has an open
discussion of reasons why sleep is important to humans. He mentions that huge sectors of society are
sleep deprived. On average, teens need nine hours of sleep for a healthy brain performance. But,
nowadays teens are only getting about ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Foster states, Essentially, all the stuff we ve burned up during the day, we restore, we replace, we
rebuild during the night. Foster also explains that Within the brain, a whole raft of genes have been
shown to be turned on only during sleep, and those genes are associated with restoration and
metabolic pathways. I agree with Foster s first explanation of why we sleep. Sleep helps repair and
renew tissue and nerve cells, the neutralization of neurotoxins, and the restoration of normal levels of
chemicals throughout our bodies. Sleep can also heal the body physically. For example, it can heal
wounds, strengthen the immune system, and increase growth hormone levels in the

Thyroid Surgery Research Paper
Thyroid surgery is a broad term covering any type of operation on the thyroid gland. This is an organ
shaped like a butterfly which sits at the front of your neck, producing hormones that maintain your
metabolism. Almost all thyroid surgery involves some type of thyroid removal, also called a
thyroidectomy. There are two main types of thyroid removal: a total thyroidectomy and a
hemithyroidectomy. In a total thyroidectomy, your whole thyroid gland is removed, whereas in a
hemithyroidectomy only about one half of it is removed.
Thyroid surgery is done by endocrine surgeons. These are surgeons who have specialised in operating
on organs which produce hormones such as the thyroid, parathyroid, pancreas and adrenal glands.
This means that the doctor carrying out the thyroid surgery will have years of experience in thyroid
removal and be able to minimise any risks. They are able to discuss what type of surgery is best for
you and what your unique concerns are. While your surgeon will discuss risks in detail before gaining
your consent for the surgery here are three of the most important complications of thyroid surgery,
especially thyroid removal.

thyroxine. If this occurs you may need to take a small pill containing artificial thyroxine to keep your
metabolism working at an appropriate rate. Some people are hyperthyroid prior to thyroid removal,
meaning they are producing too much thyroxine. Whether your thyroxine levels were normal or high
prior to the surgery they ll be carefully monitored afterwards. Hypothyroidism is expected after a total
thyroidectomy but uncommon after a hemithyroidectomy or other thyroid

Examples Of Bitterness In The Crucible
Bitterness is a feeling of anger, hurt, or resentment toward a bad experience or a sense of unjust
treatment. This emotion is human nature since humans were primitive because it made humans
remember events that negatively affected them, causing feelings such as anger, hate, and hostility
toward what caused the problem. In the play The Crucible by Arthur Miller, many circumstances came
up that caused strong feelings of pain, irritation, and furry. Bitterness is used to demonstrate a factor of
human nature throughout the play by illustrating the experiences of resentment caused by conflicts. A
part of human nature is feeling bitter, and that concept is shown through different situations during the
play. Mrs. Putnam in The Crucible was trying ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Proctor said this because he was angry and resentful to the judge. The judge had very little reason to
accuse his wife. This causes Proctor to become bitter. Human nature teachers this because humans
strive for the truth. Whenever the truth is twisted humans become bitter and spiteful. An instance
occurred when Elizabeth went against what Proctor told her to do. PROCTOR: How do you go to
Salem when I forbid it? Do you mock me? Shaking her. I ll whip you if you dare leave this house
again! (Miller 55). Proctor gets very furious and threatens to whip her. When a person sets a rule and
another person breaks that rule it causes frustration and results in bitterness. Anger completely
overtook Marry Warren during Abigail s trial because Abigail lied about how Elizabeth was using
witchcraft. Mary Warren, on her feet with a spring, and horrified, pleading: Abby! (Miller 115). The
reason Mary Warren got so uncontrollably mad was due to human nature. Abigail made up that was a
yellow bird and was out to get her. It is human nature to seek the truth and Abigail lying caused Mary
Warren to become that way. During this experience Hale is questioning Elizabeth about

How Stirling Engine Is A Type Of Heat Engine Essay
Abstract: Stirling engine is a type of heat engine that operates by cyclic compression and expansion of
working fluid of different temperature to convert heat energy into mechanical work. The concept of
Stirling engine was introduced to overcome the problem of explosion and wastage of heat energy in
steam engine. The key working principle of Stirling is a fixed amount of gas is sealed inside the closed
space .
Stirling engine can work on any solid or liquid fuel with very low exhaust emission. It operates
without noise, have low cycle torque variation and a flat part load characteristics. With this type of
advantageous attributes, Stirling engine come into sight for use in automotive application.
Nevertheless, Stirling engine has very less realistic practical application in automotive. The reason
behind that is easily availability of liquid fuel and internal combustion engine. Stirling engines are
more expensive and most complicated than IC engine. In addition to that, it has low power density and
sealing problems while working on high pressure and high speed. Moreover, It requires twice efficient
cooling system compared to other engine of equivalent power.
In past, there were plenty of experiments conducted to use Stirling engine in automotive section.
Efforts to develop Stirling powered cars, vans and buses have been made in Europe and the USA. NV
Philips, United Stirling of Sweden, have worked together with DAF and US companies such as

Interest Rate Pass-Through and Monetary Transmission in...
Interest Rate Pass Through and Monetary Transmission in Asia and European countries
 Introduction
After the financial crisis happened in 1997, many economies are interested in evaluating the
performance of monetary policy in softening inflation, affecting investment and other economic
indicators. Central banks lowered the policy rate to nearly zero so as to ease the intense economic
situation (Meaning and Zhu (2011)). Interest rate pass though can be defined as the degree and the
speed of monetary policy rate into retail banking rate. In order to stable the price level, central banks
have to know well about to what extend the interest rate mechanism amends inflation. More precisely,
it is essential to estimate whether the transmission from the government policy rate to retail rates is
complete. The reason is simple: retail banking rates can be viewed as a indicator that has impact on
real economy because it can affect the demand and supply of loans and deposit. The higher the interest
rate pass though, the closer link between monetary policy rate and retail rates, which means the retail
banking rates can react quickly, that also provides an effective interest rate channel. An incomplete
interest rate pass through can lead to the invalidation of the Taylor rule (Marotta, 2009). This can be
indicated from a rough indicator, lending spreads, (i.e, the difference between lending and policy
rates). Early studies on the transmission mechanism of monetary policy

Voltmeter Construction
ABSTRACT
The objective of this project is to design LCD digital oscilloscope for practical use. The basic concept
for the project involves reading the voltage signal at the input and displaying it on the screen of an
alphanumeric LCD. The input analog signals are supplied to the ADC(Analog to Digital Converter),
which are then sampled by it and the amplitude of the signal(voltage) is displayed on the LCD.
Device Components:
Microcontroller or processor:
We used Atmega16 an Atmel AVR series microcontroller. The processor clock was set to 11MHz
internal oscillator.
Analog to Digital Converter:
In this device we use Atmega16 s inbuilt analog to digital converter. It is a 10 bit ADC which uses the
in built reference voltage level of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As the name implies it uses analogue techniques throughout to create the pattern on the display.
Typically they use a cathode ray tube where the voltages on the x and y plats cause a dot on the screen
to move. In the horizontal direction this is controlled by the time base, whereas in the vertical
direction the deflection is proportional to the signal input. Essentially the signal is amplified and
applied to the Y plates of the cathode ray tube.
A cathode ray tube consists of a number of elements. There is an electron gun that generates an
electron beam that is fired along the length of the tube. This beam passes by deflection plates that are
used to deflect the beam, as a result of electrostatic attraction and repulsion, and finally the beam hits
a phosphor coating on the screen creating a small dot of light.
To assist in making the trace as clear as possible, intensity and focus controls are included. The focus
ensures that the dot that scans the screen remains as sharp as possible and in this way it can deliver a
clear trace. The intensity control is required because the intensity of the dot or trace varies according
to the speed at which the scan is made. Controlling the intensity enables a clear trace to be obtained.
When the scan is very slow the dot is seen to traverse the screen and it is difficult to visualize the

  • 2. Networks Before The Cloud Of Cloud Computing Networks before the Cloud Cloud computing is the practice of using remote storage for applications and data. The idea itself is not a new one; it has been in use for many years albeit under different names. In the earliest days of the computer age machines had to be physically large to contain the hardware required to do their jobs. It was impractical and prohibitively expensive to provide one of these mainframes for individual users; not to mention for what they were used for, unnecessary. Instead, one central computer was wired to several terminals that users could interface with. Typically, only large organizations such as, major corporations or government agencies could afford one of these machines or had need of one. This was the birth of cloud computing. Until the early 1980s this system was typical for any organization requiring large amounts of processing power. It was considered unnecessary and difficult to put the nuts and bolts of applications onto users desktop machines. Rather, by keeping applications in a central location, they could be managed and updated more easily and large amounts of storage space and processing power were not needed on desktop machines. Indeed, before this time there were no desktop machines mass produced that could achieve this level of power. This was about to change. Moore s law is the observation that, over the history of computing hardware, the number of transistors in a dense integrated circuit has doubled approximately every ... • 3. Fashion At The Edge, By Gaby Wood In Caroline Evans book, Fashion at the Edge, she looks at the fashions from all ages but goes most deeply into the fashion of the 1990 s and the themes that were very apparent in that particular time. She expands on these themes in chapters throughout her book such as Deathliness, Spectacle, Horror and Glamour. She relates all these themes back to the influences of the 20th century and the rise of the commodity obsessed culture, modernism and capitalism and the metaphorical death it brings to our world. This essay will focus on the image of Dolly Mixture that was featured in a fashion spread in 2000 that was written by Gaby Wood, which is found in the Deathliness chapter. I will review Evans chapter and her analysis of the themes and idea proposed by Evans herself and other theorists. I will use these themes and ideas to make my own predictions about the effects these theories would have on the future of our society and our fashion here in New Zealand. Evans starts the chapter of with exploring the idea of living dolls. She explains that these living dolls are actually human beings, mostly women that are becoming or have become objects through the course of modeling clothes. There are several European designers who have seen this issue and have played on this idea in the late 1990 s, such designers like Martin Margiela, Alexander McQueen and Hussein Chalayan. They replaced real life models with dummies, as they called it, or by using the model to resemble a dummy by ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

By discussing a brief history of the café brand and its rise and fall through the economic crisis of 2008, it was clear that the company managed so proficiently due to strategic moves made by leadership. The article explored how the company centered it focus on its consumers and building itself a priority spot in the community by utilizing customer opinions and social media. In fact, by doing so, the corporation not only survive the 2008 economic downfall, but thrived to become of the innovative leaders of the 21st century (Lemus, Feingenblatt, Orta, Rivero, 2015.) By executing strategic moves in five phases, the company bounced back to become a main staple in everyday life. Starbucks is present in 50 states in the US and 43 countries. It is one of the most respected brands, winning awards such as Best Business , Most Admired Company , 100 Best Corporate Citizens and so on (Husain, Khan, Mirza, 2014.) Starbuck s current position amongst its competitors is clear in that all others fall behind. However, as explained in the article, this was not always the case. • 7. Political And Economic Strengths Of The Inca And The Aztecs The Mesoamerican Empires, the Inca and the Aztec, both lasted for about a century, the Aztec Empire lasted from 1440 1521 CE and the Inca Empire from 1438 1532 CE. Migrating tribes who settled in central Mexico formed the Aztec Empire. The Inca Empire began as one tribe that conquered neighboring groups of people and eventually developed into a unified empire. The Aztecs and the Incas both present political and economic strengths; however, the Incas established a stronger empire due to advanced government and intelligent taxation techniques of imperial administration. The Aztecs and the Incas both unified their empires through central cities, shared language, centralized government, national religion, and military force. These subjects all require the people in the empires to be loyal to the emperor. By establishing a capital with one language, and one religion, a ruler gave the members of the empire a sense of belonging and safety. This sense of belonging unified the empire and the emperor gained the loyalty of their people. The building of Cuzco and Tenochtitlan, the capitals of the Inca and Aztec empires, was the first step for each empire to officially becoming an empire. Through the native languages of the Aztecs, Nahuatl, and the Incas, Quechua, the rulers were able to communicate within the empire and form alliances with neighboring empires. The Aztecs formed a triple alliance with Tenochtitlan, Texcoco, and Tlacopan. The two empires had strong centralized governments ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In the early 90s, data warehousing applications were either strategic or tactical in nature. Trending and detecting patterns was the typical focus of many solutions. If the answer to all three of these questions is yes, then reprocessing may be required. The final test is to balance the cost of development versus the benefits of implementation. • 9. Formation of the ASCI and Leading Cases of False Advertising NTRODUCTION An advertisement is defined as a paid for communication, addressed to the Public or a section of it, the purpose of which is to influence the opinions or behaviour of those to whom it is addressed. Any communication which in the normal course would be recognised as an advertisement by the general public would be included in this definition even if it is carried free of charge for any reason. Advertisements are messages paid for by those who send them and are intended to inform or influence people who receive them Advertising Association of UK. An advertisement, therefore, is a method of communication between the producer and the consumer, a sharing of information by the producer. Its purpose is to educate the customer about various goods and services available in the market, helping the customer make a choice between products whose benefits are unknown to a layman, i.e., the customer. Therefore, advertising firms and producers hold a lot of power over the consumers in the market. This lack of knowledge of the consumers and the propensity to spend money economically can be exploited through advertisements. • 10. Cosmopolit Not The Drink Cosmopolitan... Not the Drink! The word cosmopolitanism, derived from Greek, means that humans are part of a global civilization. Cosmos signifies the earth, and polis means city or state. The Enlightenment philosophers Emmanuel Kant and Baron de Montesquieu interpreted the idea slightly differently but fundamentally agreed that it entails the communication and exchange of varied cultures, especially through commerce. Cosmopolitism is not to be confused with legal pluralism, discussed by Lauren Benton and Lisa Ford, which is the continuation of numerous, somewhat independent legal structures inside one region existing simultaneously. Though they seem similar at first glance, legal pluralism has been proven to be a failure, while ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These two drastically different societal groups are still accountable to the same rules. Anthony Anghie, a professor at the University of Utah, wrote in his book, Imperialism, Sovereignty and the Making of International Law, the universal system of divine law administered by the Pope is replaced by the universal natural law system of jus gentium whose rules may be ascertained by the use of reason (Anghie, 325). Reason is a human characteristic, so everyone, from natives of South America to religious Spanish Catholics can understand the universal laws. Because all people use their reason to determine universal laws, all cultures share certain values. Grotius, a believer in universal law, argued that God, wished human friendships to be engendered by mutual needs and resources (Grotius, 1). The needs of humanity cannot be met in just one geographical location, so global trading is required. The interaction of these different cultures, by means of commerce, results in the creation of the cosmopolitan. One society may be able to harvest a certain product better than another, so mutual respect and principles for all of humanity are required. Without it, humanity will not have access to all of the creations of the world, and economic activity and trade would be substantially diminished. Hilary: Finding Clarity in the Chaos As a barely twenty year old junior at a sheltered private college, I have to confess that it s been very hard to conceptualize and realize the severity of the 2016 election. What started off as a race of what seemed like a million different candidates, the polls quickly zoned in on two candidates we could ve never predicted to be the voting citizens final choice. It s both overwhelming, and simple, deceitful, and truthful this election seems to be full of contradictions and half truths, and the opaque nature of a once seemingly transparent media complicates matters further in an election that seems convoluted even on paper. The motives behind these conscious, deliberate decisions vary greatly, but the results are always interesting to dissect. The pro choice side has many arguments to support it belief in keeping abortion legal. The pro life position has somewhat different ideas. The most popular of these is: The unborn entity is fully human from the moment of conception. Vaudeville shows were made up of many random acts that were placed together in a common play bill. Some acts were, for example, plays, clowns, jugglers, comedians, etc. Once the radio was introduced, vaudeville s started to become less popular as the radio s popularity started to increase. The radio started out with maximum five programs but as the demand for radios increased so did the amount of programs, which went up to almost 500. Starting out as vaudevillians, Burns and Allen performed in different theatres and later signed a five year contract with Keith Theater. Being known as the most popular acts in the United States, Allen was invited to be a guest star on the radio. When CBS noticed how talented Burns and Allen were on the radio, CBS offered a contract. Death In Kurt Vonnegut s A Tale Of Two Cities Death can be seen all throughout life, and all deaths can be for different reasons, whether those reasons be noble, villainous, or, in most cases, simply neither. Throughout both A Tale of Two Cities, written by Charles Dickens, and Slaughterhouse Five, written by Kurt Vonnegut, death can be seen as a common topic betwixt both novels at one point or another, albeit each topic of death can be very different at times. Charles Dickens is a beloved author, responsible for many classic works such as A Tale of Two Cities. He was born February 7, 1812, in Portsmouth, England. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In Slaughterhouse Five, death is taken in a light manner, and is seen by the main protagonist, Billy Pilgrim, shows death throughout his experiences in the book as an impermanent and weightless event, which is the complete opposite of how Dickens portrays death. Throughout Slaughterhouse Five, Vonnegut places the words So it goes. after every death, or multiple deaths seen at roughly the same time, eventually explaining this phrase as something the Tralfamadorians say after somebody because everyone is alive forever, even if at different times, so therefore death is meaningless in the eyes of those in Slaughterhouse Five. The message about death that Slaughterhouse Five attempts to bring is far different than the message A Tale of Two Cities attempts to bring. While Slaughterhouse Five tries to tell us that death is meaningless and holds no weight, A Tale of Two Cities tries to tell us that death holds a lot of weight in the world, and that in some cases can be the most meaningful thing in the world. Vonnegut throughout his book takes a tone that is aloof or uncaring when it comes to death, a tone that tells us that he thinks death is meaningless, or weightless, whereas we can see that Dickens takes a more serious tone when it comes to death, showing that he has a deep respect for meaningful death, albeit when when he thinks that there is a pointless death, his tone changes to one of frustration or chastising. Vonnegut, on the other hand, keeps the same tone about death throughout the entire book, never changing his tone when an important death happens, or when a meaningful death occurs, but always keeps the same tone that says that he believes death holds no weight, in complete contrast to Dickens, who, no matter the circumstance, whether the death is important or meaningless, always seems to keep some level of respect for death in the way he talks about it. ... The character of the dumb blonde is always represented as highly sexual and attractive and is, therefore, the misogynistic male viewer. Throughout the course of the dialogue, Thrasymachus formulates three major assertions regarding justice. This argument alike can be used to refute another of Thrasymachus primary claims that justice is really the good of another [...] and harmful to the one who obeys and serves. 3 In addition to his definition, Thrasymachus argues the value of justice as a human or societal characteristic, claiming that injustice is far more beneficial to the individual. Thrasymachus asserts that tyranny: makes the doer of injustice happiest and the sufferers of it, who are unwilling to do injustice, most wretched.[...] injustice, if it is on a large enough scale, is stronger, freer, and more masterly than justice.5 To decide whether an unjust man finds more happiness than a just man does, one must understand the true meaning of the word. That s why I propose that there should be sign language courses taught in public schools. There are, of course, thousands of schools around the world for the deaf or hard of heating. Freeman modestly articulates a stakeholder theory using the narrow definition of a stakeholder, which includes those who are vital to the success and survival of a corporation. Specifically, these stakeholders include owners, management, suppliers, employees, customers, and the local community. As well as being directly connected with the corporation, Freeman argues that the stakeholders are also interconnected with each other as well, and that each stakeholder is vital to the survival of the corporation, and vice versa. Employees rely on the business to give them a paycheck; the business provides their livelihood. Employees return the favor because they run the business on a day to day basis. Suppliers are vital to the firm s success because the quality of the raw materials purchased will determine the quality and price of the final good produced by the firm. As a result, the firm is a customer of their supplier, and is therefore vital to their supplier s success. The next stakeholder, customers, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 39. Essay about Neglect Poem Analysis Feelings of Neglect Neglect by R.T Smith explains the feelings of neglect by using imagery, metaphor, and connotation. This poem talks about a path of neglect that a man followed that led to the destruction of his red apple tree. The narrator put too much of his time and attention on his other marvels to not put it into the apple tree as well. Therefore his red apple tree, though thought to be inevitable, died and filled the narrator with regret. A regret that appears to haunt the author, and fills him with sorrow. One of the literacy devices used in Neglect is imagery. Towards the beginning of the poem, the author uses it in the following quote, skew the sap s / passage, blacken leaves, dry the bark and heart (lines 5 6). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A second example of a metaphor is found when the author writes, Smoke is all, ... ,/ I ve been given to remember (21 22). This is an example of a metaphor because it is comparing the smoke to death and how he was too blinded by the other blessings he had received, and now regrets it. It connects with the meaning of the poem because it shows how if something is neglected too much, it will eventually disappear and come back to haunt the neglecter, and the only memories that will be left to remember it by is the smoke that it leaves behind. The third literacy device that was found throughout the poem is connotation, which the author uses frequently in the poem. The first quote is, Is the scent of apple boughs smoking in the woodstove what I will remember... (1 4). The word smoke in this poem is a connotation because it carries a meaning of sadness and death. In every quote the author has it in it brings a feeling of sadness and how he was too blind to see that death was on the verge for his loved apple tree. It connects with the poem with its ability to change the mood from what seemed to be the author becoming happier, back to the depressing tone that was throughout the poem. It kept reminding the reader of the fateful death that the tree went through and the author s sadness. The second connotation is later in the same sentence, ... of the Red Delicious I brought down... Introduction of Medication The medication covered in this article is called Ritalin, by brand name, and Methylphenidate or Methylphenidylacetate hydrochloride are the generic names. Ritalin can be habit forming and with over extended use a tolerance is built up, requiring more of the drug to be taken in order to feel the same effects. A person using this medication can develop severe depression just from suddenly stopping this drug after their overuse of it. To get off of this medication, it requires gradual dosage lowering and monitoring by a physician to lessen negative withdrawal effects, (MedlinePlus, 2016). The primary use for Ritalin today has been for dulling symptoms of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder children and adults. Ritalin is also used to treat narcolepsy. Narcolepsy is a sleep disorder where the brain is not effectively regulating sleeping and waking cycles. Ritalin is part of the central nervous system stimulants which work by altering brain chemistry, and holding back some neurotransmitters and dulling some receptors to temporarily and artificial mimic a sense of calm and focus while under the influence of the medicine, (MedlinePlus, 2016). The results emerged from this study shows a pattern that holds clear implications for practicing managers and task design intellectuals. First, the task redesign hindrance significantly distorted employee perceptions in the expectation and desired directions. Furthermore, the altered perceptions remained at their new level for the duration of the study. Second, attitudes including satisfaction and commitment also increased quickly but then reduced back to their initial levels. Finally, performance did not increase initially, but did increase a lot by the end of the study period. For empirical researchers, perhaps the most important finding from this study was the differential pattern of changes across time periods. Researchers need to be more sensitive to the nature of perceptual, attitudinal, and behavioral variables. This is an organ shaped like a butterfly which sits at the front of your neck, producing hormones that maintain your metabolism. Almost all thyroid surgery involves some type of thyroid removal, also called a thyroidectomy. There are two main types of thyroid removal: a total thyroidectomy and a hemithyroidectomy. In a total thyroidectomy, your whole thyroid gland is removed, whereas in a hemithyroidectomy only about one half of it is removed. Thyroid surgery is done by endocrine surgeons. In the play The Crucible by Arthur Miller, many circumstances came up that caused strong feelings of pain, irritation, and furry. • 46. How Stirling Engine Is A Type Of Heat Engine Essay Abstract: Stirling engine is a type of heat engine that operates by cyclic compression and expansion of working fluid of different temperature to convert heat energy into mechanical work. The concept of Stirling engine was introduced to overcome the problem of explosion and wastage of heat energy in steam engine. The key working principle of Stirling is a fixed amount of gas is sealed inside the closed space . Stirling engine can work on any solid or liquid fuel with very low exhaust emission. It operates without noise, have low cycle torque variation and a flat part load characteristics. With this type of advantageous attributes, Stirling engine come into sight for use in automotive application. Nevertheless, Stirling engine has very less realistic practical application in automotive. The reason behind that is easily availability of liquid fuel and internal combustion engine. Stirling engines are more expensive and most complicated than IC engine. In addition to that, it has low power density and sealing problems while working on high pressure and high speed. Moreover, It requires twice efficient cooling system compared to other engine of equivalent power. In past, there were plenty of experiments conducted to use Stirling engine in automotive section. Efforts to develop Stirling powered cars, vans and buses have been made in Europe and the USA. • 47. Interest Rate Pass-Through and Monetary Transmission in... Interest Rate Pass Through and Monetary Transmission in Asia and European countries  Introduction After the financial crisis happened in 1997, many economies are interested in evaluating the performance of monetary policy in softening inflation, affecting investment and other economic indicators. Central banks lowered the policy rate to nearly zero so as to ease the intense economic situation (Meaning and Zhu (2011)). Interest rate pass though can be defined as the degree and the speed of monetary policy rate into retail banking rate. In order to stable the price level, central banks have to know well about to what extend the interest rate mechanism amends inflation. More precisely, it is essential to estimate whether the transmission from the government policy rate to retail rates is complete. The reason is simple: retail banking rates can be viewed as a indicator that has impact on real economy because it can affect the demand and supply of loans and deposit. The higher the interest rate pass though, the closer link between monetary policy rate and retail rates, which means the retail banking rates can react quickly, that also provides an effective interest rate channel. An incomplete interest rate pass through can lead to the invalidation of the Taylor rule (Marotta, 2009). This can be indicated from a rough indicator, lending spreads, (i.e, the difference between lending and policy rates). Early studies on the transmission mechanism of monetary policy Assumed the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As the name implies it uses analogue techniques throughout to create the pattern on the display. Typically they use a cathode ray tube where the voltages on the x and y plats cause a dot on the screen to move. In the horizontal direction this is controlled by the time base, whereas in the vertical direction the deflection is proportional to the signal input. Essentially the signal is amplified and applied to the Y plates of the cathode ray tube. A cathode ray tube consists of a number of elements. There is an electron gun that generates an electron beam that is fired along the length of the tube. This beam passes by deflection plates that are used to deflect the beam, as a result of electrostatic attraction and repulsion, and finally the beam hits a phosphor coating on the screen creating a small dot of light. To assist in making the trace as clear as possible, intensity and focus controls are included. The focus ensures that the dot that scans the screen remains as sharp as possible and in this way it can deliver a clear trace. The intensity control is required because the intensity of the dot or trace varies according to the speed at which the scan is made. Controlling the intensity enables a clear trace to be obtained. When the scan is very slow the dot is seen to traverse the screen and it is difficult to visualize the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
