extreme fires in recent years. These catastrophic fires cause significant changes to ground cover
along stream corridors. The loss of ground cover significantly increases the amount of sediment
entering watersheds, which can alter both temperature and dissolved oxygen levels throughout the
system. The purpose of this paper is to examine the changes in water temperature and dissolved
oxygen concentration associated with wildfire, how these changes can be controlled, how effective
these controls are, and what more can be done.

Fire can alter stream temperature in several different ways. First, and probably most short lived, is
the immediate temperature spikes caused by the active burning. Second, fire has the potential to

Reflection On Feminism
This semester has truly been a journey for me and what I find myself identifying feminism as.
Looking back at our first writing assignment and discussing the magnitude of interpretations on
what feminism is and what it stands for, my opinions and views have certainly evolved throughout
the course of the semester. Feminism, in all of its forms and interpretations, is expressed differently
to each person. As for myself, I have never explored the vast variety of feminism until this past
fall semester. From expressing my views from the first assignment, I can clearly say that my
opinions have changed gradually throughout the semester. Three readings from our repertoire
have really shaped my new outlook on feminism and what it holds to be for me. And as this
semester in GWSS 1101 comes to a close, I look back on these readings to show how far I have
come and the vast opportunities that I have yet to come in my exploration of feminism. Before I
venture off into these three readings, I want to reflect back on my personal views of feminism at
the beginning of the semester through the What Is Feminism? interview project. Included in the
appendix, I have included the interview questions from my What Is Feminism? project.
Throughout the interview project, I explained that a majority of my beliefs of feminism were hand
fed to me by parents and my religion. I was born and raised on Catholic values, both being

Recently viewing the movie, The Jungle Book, decided to convey my thoughts. The movie was
adapted from Rudyard Kipling s collective works, as well as Walt Disney s 1967 animated film.
Being that, The Jungle Book is one of my favorites, I chose to unveil its three act structures, setup,
confrontation and resolution. Act one reveals the protagonist, Mowgli, an orphan human boy raised
by wolves. Antagonist, Sher Khan warns the wolves he would kill the boy and punish them, once
the water truce is over. Mowgli then decides to leave to spare everyone by having the Panther,
Bagheeratakes him back to the human village. Mowgli and Bagheera, eventually attacked by Sher
Khan, is separated. Now Mowgli is on his own.

Value of Individual Liberty
Indeed, Mill asserted that the cultivation of one s individuality should be the goal of human
existence. He wrote On Liberty as an argument against repressive laws which inhibit voluntary
association and suppress original ideas and ways of thinking, in a bid to protect the freedom of
the individual from stifling social conventions, oppressive legal controls and censorship. What is
the value of individual liberty that calls for it to be defended so fervently by Mill?
Individual Liberty and Truth
Firstly, Mill believes that individual liberty is instrumental in the attainment of truth. No one can
claim an infallibility of knowledge or a definite truth. Falsehoods are often sprinkled with specks of
truth; and truth may exists as half truths held by different people, and it is only through controversy
that the truth in the parts can be unified into a larger canvas of the ultimate truth. If one s actions
were to be censored completely, society would lose those specks of truth amongst the falsehoods,
which would be disadvantageous to society.
Furthermore, truth is very often not derived from the masses, but from the ideas of a select few. If
these people are silenced by repressive laws or mass opinion, society will be deprived of a chance

How many of us actually listens to the person we are having a conversation with? Really listen?
Not just to the actual words that they are saying but also to the hidden language that is often
referred to as body language .
Listening this is an active process. It involves the use of many of our senses not just hearing the
obvious one. What tone of voice are they using? What expressions are on their face? What are the
surroundings like in which the conversation is taking place? A place of peace or a place of
conflict? How many individuals are in the room? Is the conversation in person or taking place
virtually? What are the ages of the individuals? What is the relationship like between the
individuals or the group who are talking? All of these factors and many others will ... Show more
The conversation must have a goal a purpose for the meeting to occur. Do you know what the
agenda is? Is it a spontaneous conversation? Your physical body may be in the location that you are
having the conversation in, but where is your mind? To really listen to, the mind and the body must
be both present in the same location.
Listening to your... Now this is the core of the conversation. We need to listen to someone else. We
need to have a dialogue and not a monologue. Too often we are not really listening to the other
person but formulating our own ideas in our mind. Listening is an unselfish act, as we are putting

Fahrenheit 451 and The Allegory of the Cave relate in the sense that society is ignorant and fears

in the sixth grade. She is Astonishing! It s easy to describe her because she is an incredible

Our society has become punitive when dealing with children, so much so that we are deemed, by
other nations, the harshest western nation when it comes to juvenile policy and punishment.
Unfortunately, this is a true statement when we look at our incarceration rates. Our states and
federal prison, local jails, and juvenile detention center are overcrowded, with beds being filled the
same day they are vacated. Specifically, our juvenile detention system is serving an alarming
amount of children. In fact, it is estimated that 500,000 children enter juvenile detentions center
every year, leading to the detention of more than 26,000 juveniles every day (Holman and
Ziedenberg, 2006). Unfortunately, studies have found that disability rates among juveniles in
detention average around 30% to 50% (Gemeignani, 1994). While some studies indicate the rate of
disability is as high as 76% (Quinn et al., 2005). In contrast, the national average of disabilities is
estimated at 10% (Butterworth Kovas, 2013). These factors have significant consequences on our
society in general. Particularly on our incarceration rates of both juvenile and adults, the enormous
cost of incarcerating individuals, the loss of taxpayers and family members, and the overtaxing of a

The Goal Essay 1 In Eliyahu Goldratt s novel The Goal: A Process of Ongoing Improvement , he
tells a story about a man going through hard times, in both his work life and personal life. Alex
works in a manufacturing plant that is barely staying afloat, and his boss has left it up to him to
keep the business running with a three month time span to do it in. Even though The Goal: A Process
of Ongoing Improvement is just a story, it is still very relatable to businessmen, businesswomen,
and students. The three categories of constraints that are shown in the story are knowledge,
material, and supplier. The knowledge constraint caused for the manufacturing plant to not be ...
It also is not efficient to have all of these materials on hand, especially when they are not even
being used for multiple months. When Alex was on the hike with the Boy Scouts he was
equating what was going on during the hike to the manufacturing plant and realized that at the
plant the inventory is going up, throughput is going down, and operational expense is probably
increasing. So that means he was realizing that they had too much inventory on hand at the plant,
which was causing their operational expense to increase as well. By page 119 in The Goal: A
Process of Ongoing Improvement we have not seen what Alex s discovery about the inventory
has does for the plant. The third constraint for the manufacturing plant is supplier because of all
of the backed up orders. When there is a supplier constraint then it has a long lead time,
unreliable, and/or substandard quality. This is what is happening at the manufacturing plant
because of how overdue the products are by the time they are finished. Since they have so many
backed up orders it causes for the potential of making money to decrease and the likelihood of
