What Is The Reflection In The Nature Of Things By...
Lucretius in The Nature of Things explains that there are only two entities that make up bodies in the
universe: matter and void. Matter is ever present and does not decay while the void is a nothingness
that allows for motion and change. Marcus Aurelius in Meditations explains that matter and the soul
are the components of the universe, with the soul in some sense filling the void. Lucretius void has a
correlation to Aurelius soul. Both philosophers explain how the concept of the void is responsible and
related to death, because it allows for disturbances to the balance within the being. Lucretius believes
that the void is the cause of death, yet questions whether the soul travels with it. Aurelius questions
how the soul can remain after death. Death is an abstract concept that Lucretius and Aurelius attempt
to answer through matter and voids. Lucretius calls the void a nothingness, which is always empty,
and matter a solid that is free of any void. Aurelius has an essence of somethingness to his void, the
soul, and calls matter a static body. By adding the soul as a third component to reality, the Stoic
Marcus Aurelius rejects the binary universe of Lucretius. Matter is defined by Lucretius as a
primordial entity free of void and decay; they are the atoms that create entities. Atoms and primordial
entities are synonymous with each other: the solidity of matter is called procreant atoms, matter, seeds
of things, or primal bodies, as primal to the world (107 108). Lucretius uses all these words,
emphasizing the simplicity of his philosophy. This simplicity is explained as he declares: primal
bodies are solid, without a void (596). Because he believes that all entities are composed of primal
bodies and a void, the primal body must be free of any void, thus giving substance to the object. He
declares that entities are composed: partly primal germs of things, and partly unions deriving from the
primal germs (566 567). This definition states that all matter consists of atoms, which, when
combined, form molecules. Molecules, as defined by science, are the unions of atoms. This scientific
principal is further explained: So primal germs have solid singleness, which tightly packed and closely

Multinational Market Regions And Market Groups Essay
The Company has set a goal of delivering more than $1 billion in cost savings over the next five years
through global supply chain initiatives designed to achieve economies of scale and reduce costs by
leveraging people, process, and technology (H.J. Heinz Annual Report and 10k, 2010). Multinational
Market Regions and Market Groups Throughout the varying entities of the Heinz Corporation at least
one thing remains constant, high expectations pertaining to corporate and social responsibility.
Their pride in responsibility, along with their strict outline of rules and business standards, allows for
swift and easy adaptations to local and regional group regulations (such as: NAFTA, the EU, CAFTA,
ASEAN, etc). Although countries and regions have differing health standards and regulations for food,
Heinz avoids complications with the countries respective economic unions or organizations due to the
Company s nature of business. If a firm in the food industry wishes to compete on world level, the
foremost outside force it will contend with and adapt to is culture. One way in which a country
expresses its culture is through food.
Since cultures change from region to region, one can see that it would be virtually impossible for a
firm competing on a global scale to have one product which hails all markets and appeals to everyone
s preferences. Therefore, Heinz does not have one product that it must mold to different rules and
regulations in order to sell it to different markets.

Marketing Petland
Social. People have become dependent on their pets for companionship, friendship and love. They are
an important and loved part of our families, and it is especially apparent in the spending patterns of
these pet owners (Kadet, A., 2012). Owning a pet is a big responsibility, and some owners take it to a
whole new level with the pampering they provide to their pets.
Economic. Most people are aware of the cost associated with owning a pet, a pet is an extension of
ones family and in many cases people are spending more on theirs pets than they would a child. And
even with the economy tanking, the pet industry still seems to thrive. According to the article on

Introduction
A typical scenario in a manufacturing company in Singapore is one in which all the strategic
decisions, including forecasting of future demand, are provided by an overseas office. The forecast
model provided by the overseas office is often inaccurate because the forecasting is performed before
the actual production schedule and it is based on marketing survey results and historical data from an
overseas research team. This ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Bayesian dynamics time series and forecasting techniques can be used to solve inventory problems
because Bayesian inference statistics has the analogue idea that posterior knowledge (actual sales
demand) can be derived from prior knowledge (such as the manager s experience) and the likelihood
(the similar or expected trend) of the product demand (Box and Tioa, 1973; Jeffreys, 1961; Lee, 1988;
Press, 1989). In many real life forecasting problems (for example when previous demand data are not
available for newly launched products), there is little or no useful information

largely on subjective considerations (such as the manager s experience and the general demand of a
similar or comparable product). As the latest information (actual sales demand) becomes available, the
forecasting model is modified with the subjective estimation in the presence of the actual data. This

Industrial Workers During The Gilded Age
Similar to the farmers during the Gilded Age, industrial workers combatted poor working conditions,
child labor, low wages, and long hours by forming labor unions and organizing strikes, ending as a
massive failure. Early in the industrial era, there was no minimum wage, leaving it up to the factory
owners to set the rate at which their workers were to be paid. Some owners did not pay their
employees in cash but in company scrip which could be redeemed at the company store. For example,
in Pullman, Illinois and in Hershey, Pennsylvania, the towns were owned by corporations, the Pullman
Palace Car Company and the Hershey Company respectively, so their workers would receive vouchers
to spend at the company store instead of hard cash. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Initially a fraternal organization providing social events, sporting competitions, and education for
working men and their families, the Knights of Labor soon advocated for the creation of cooperatives
where members would serve as worker owners who have input on the running of factories in hopes of
making changes for the better of the working man. The Knights of Labor believed that the alarming
development and aggression of aggregated wealth, which, unless checked, will inevitably lead to the
pauperization and hopeless degradation of the toiling masses could only be stopped through the
unification of labor . The Knights were open to all producers including skilled and unskilled workers
and owners as well as women and African Americans. Bankers, doctors, liquor manufacturers,
lawyers, and stockholders were excluded because of their supposed lack in productive contribution to
society. The union advocated for a national eight hour workday, the expulsion of Asian workers, the
prohibition of immigration from the Far East, and an end to child labor. The Knights worked to make
changes for all workers, regardless of affiliation with the group, and opposed strikes and boycotts. As
the Knights of Labor began to fade away, another organization arose called the American Federation

A Cord Of Three Strands Analysis
The Faculty Jazz Ensemble was on Monday, November 9 in the Westbrook Music Hall. The
Performers included Peter Bouffard on guitar, Paul Haar on saxophone, Dave Hall on drums, Tom
Larson on piano, Hans Sturm on bass, and Darryl White on trumpet. The first piece was A Cord of
Three Strands composed by Darryl White. It was in a minor mode and was in triple meter. The piece
started off with a calm piano dynamic and homophonic texture with the trumpet playing the melody
over the drums, bass, and piano playing a countermelody underneath. The trumpet soon fades out with
a cadence and the saxophone comes in with a deeper more calming sound than the trumpet, again with
a homophonic texture. The piece reminds me of a calm pouring rain. When the saxophone and trumpet
are included, the rain picks up and when it is just the drums, bass, and piano it is like a slight drizzle of
rain. The piece fizzles out in the end with a clam cadence. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The piece starts of with a light sound and homophonic texture. The bass, piano, saxophone, and
trumpet are on the melody with the drums countering underneath. Soon, the saxophone comes in with
a solo over the rest of the instruments. This solo is flowy and lingering. The melody seems to be
conjunct. I envisioned a person ice skating, gliding around on the ice without tripping or stumbling. As
the saxophone settles out, there is a decrescendo. There is a combination between a homophonic
texture of saxophone and trumpet over bass, drums, and piano and polyphonic textures of the bass,
piano, and drums playing various different melodies. This created a great deal of tension with made
for a not so tonal rhythm. In this part, the ice skater is doing a lot of starting and stopping, stumbling.

explored the ideas of the detective genre and the different characteristics of femininity and
masculinity. It also brought forth subjects of sexual desires and the greediness of money. The
characters and the visual motifs in the film contributed to the developing of the plot and assisted in

History And Background Of Old Navy
History and Background.
Old Navy is an American clothing and accessories retailer owned by another big clothing comapny,
Gap. It has corporate operations in the Mission Bay neighbourhood of San Francisco. The largest of
the Old Navy stores are its flagship stores, located in the Mall of America(NYC), Seattle, Chicago,

Old Navy s history goes right where The Gap, Inc. was founded by Donald.G in 1969. Fisher, who
founded his own clothing store out of frustration, when he couldn t find a pair of jeans that would
perfectly fit him. And since that time, The Gap s retail clothing brand has been one of the most
successful in United States history. Before Donald Fisher launched the first Gap store in San
Francisco, he had been a prosperous real estate developer. It is fair to say, that Fisher s first store was
an immediate sensation. Young adults from the neighbouring San Francisco have flown to the stores to
get low priced jeans. And in just a few short years, the first Gap store became a huge retail chain
composed of 200 stores, in over 20 states, and valued at an estimated $100 million dollars. By the late
1970s, GAP was growing at a rate of almost 80 new stores each year and generating about $300
million annually, which worth mentioning is a lot of money that days. In 1983, Millard Drexler was

Lord Of The Flies Teamwork Vs Independence Essay
I believe that being in a group is much more beneficial than being independent. Throughout the book
lord of the flies there are two tribes who represent teamwork versus independence. There is Ralph s
tribe who are democratic and work as a group for survival. Then on the other side there is Jacks tribe
where everyone is free to do whatever they want. The definition of teamwork is The process of
working collaboratively with a group of people in order to achieve a goal . This ties in perfectly with
the novel because Ralph s tribe is working together and sharing ideas to achieve their goal of getting
rescued. There are three reasons why I believe working in a group is better than being independent.
The first reason is that two heads are always better than one. The second is that teamwork allows
people to accomplish projects and goals which are difficult to do alone. My final reason is that
teamwork builds morale.

working together, members of a team feel a strong sense of belonging and deep commitment to each

Permeability Of Red Blood Cells
All living organisms are composed of cells. Cells maintain their structure due to their cell membrane.
These membranes are selectively permeable which means that the cell membrane regulates the type
and the amount of substances that are able to enter the cell (Reece et al., 2014). The cell membrane is
a very complex structure that allows the cell to perform the basic functions that are necessary for life.
The cell membrane is selectively permeable because of its structure. Cell membranes are composed of
a phospholipid bilayer. These lipids are amphipathic meaning that they contain both a hydrophilic
(attracted to water) and hydrophobic (repelled by water) region. The cell membrane maintains its
structure by orienting itself so the hydrophilic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Before conducting the experiment, the predicted results were methanol would lyse first, followed by
ethanol, ethylene glycerol, ammonium chloride, and ammonium acetate. Glucose, sucrose, sodium
chloride, potassium chloride, glycine, and sodium acetate were not predicted to lyse at all. Sodium
acetate, potassium chloride, and sodium chloride are all extremely polar molecules. As a result they
did not travel through the cell membrane, and no lysing occurred. This further supports the
spectrophotometry and microscopy experiments where sodium chloride was used as a control. Sucrose
and glucose are also extremely large polar sugar molecules, and as a result did not lyse the cell.
Methanol, ethanol, ethylene glycerol, and glycerol are all alcohols; they are relatively small and
nonpolar. They were incredibly permeable to the cell membrane, and their rate of permeability was
based on their molecular weight. Methanol had the smallest molecular weight and lysed the red blood
cells fasted. Ethanol was the next smallest, followed by ethylene glycerol, and glycerol. Ammonium
acetate and ammonium chloride both lysed faster than glycerol because in an aqueous solution the
ammonium loses a hydrogen to become ammonia, which causes the molecule to no longer be polar.
As a result, the molecule is able to travel through the cell

85 mph, an amazing altitude of over 300 feet, and a fall that brings you weightlessness and/or nausea.
It can cycle through over 1,500 riders an hour with 3 carts fitting 8 rows of 2 people. In addition, the
starting area provides a beautiful view of the attractions below. Also, please ensure that you place all

at a constant speed, giving you a scenic view of the surrounding area. Then, you take a long drop into

Differences Between Johnson And Justin Moore
Outlaws Jamey Johnson and Justin Moore are the modern day outlaws of country music. Both
musicians are well known in the music industry. They started around the same time and are still
playing today. Not only do they sing and play guitar, they are both songwriters. Johnson and Moore
are successful with their abilities, and the Country Music Awards demonstrate that with annual
nominations. These men play a significant role on young musicians to keep pursuing their dreams.
However, these two musicians have many differences. Johnson and Moore share the same stage and
country music hits list, but they show many differences in their personal appearance and their playing
style. Jamey Johnson stands five foot four inches tall and has his own look with his mountain man
beard and Charles Manson stare. Johnson looks like the kind of guy mandated by law to stay at least
hundred yards away from most civilized people. He always wears two rings. A skull and cross bone
ring with red ruby eyes is on his right hand. His left hand has a gold band with a ruby top. With his ...

Johnson and Moore have styles that helped them become famous musicians in country music. Once
they moved to Nashville, their talent was obvious to recording agencies. Johnson s plain, scary
appearance creates a style that shows he does not need to dress sharp for fans. Everything is found in
his music. Moore s heavy dose of southern, country charm allows him to be a great singer and
songwriter. Although Johnson and Moore have such different personalities, they are friends for the
love of music and respect as another musician. The hard work these men put into their music shows
the long journey they both have had, and plays a big role in their fame. Johnson and Moore are two of
the most respected country musicians today, even though they have such different

Comparing Feminist Poetry by Plath and Sexton Essay
Comparing Feminist Poetry by Plath and Sexton
Poetry should be a shock to the senses. It should also hurt Anne Sexton believed (Baym 2703), and
evidence of this maxim s implications echoes loudly through the writing of Sexton as well as through
the work of her friend and contemporary Sylvia Plath.
Plath and Sexton s lifetimes spanned a period of remarkable change in the social role of women in
America, and both are obviously feminist poets caught somewhere between the submissive pasts of
their mothers and the liberated futures awaiting their daughters. With few established female poets to
emulate, Plath and Sexton broke new ground with their intensely personal, confessional poetry. Their
anger and frustration with female ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, Plath uses her father s German ancestry, as well as ideas about women s relationships with
their fathers and husbands, to broaden the poem s significance beyond the scope of her own
experience. Plath herself said that the poem related to the Electra complex, defined by The World
Book Medical Encyclopedia as a Freudian theory about a young girl s possessive but repressed love
for her father ( Electra Complex online).
The child narrating Daddy, in a youthful, Kipling like rhythm, is haunted by her father s monumental
presence in her world, calling him marble heavy, a bag full of God (Plath 2748). Both the poem s
childlike cadence and the innocent description of a father still the center of a young girl s universe
make it easy to re experience a youthful yearning for parental approval. When the father in the poem
dies, the young girl spends much of her life searching for a way to understand and get close to him
despite his absence. She inquires about the town where he grew up, but finds that [...] the name of the
town is common. / My Polack friend / Says there are a dozen or two. / So I never could tell where you
/ Put your foot, your root, / I never could talk to you (Plath 2748). Later, her search for her

Examples Of Etiquette In Hiking
Hiking Etiquette 101: A Guide for Canary Island Mountaineers
Whenever you re hiking, you re always honor bound to follow the rules and observances of the hobby,
whether they re on a bulletin board or unwritten. These come into play if you re hiking on the
numerous trails across the Canary islands. So, if you re planning to take a nature trip in the Masca
Valley or the rocky outcrops of Roque Nublo, here are some notable etiquette rules for both veteran
and newbie hikers.
Priority: Horses Hikers Bikers
There is always a sort of hierarchy on the trail: horses always go first, followed by hikers, and then
bikers. Considering that horses have the tendency to be spooked by incoming traffic by the opposite
direction or a biker that is suddenly overtaking them, it s wise to let them go first, unless if the rider is
signaling otherwise. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If you re riding a bike or a horse, shout out on your left or hi, just passing by to give them fair
warning. Moreover, always keep right when on the trail and stay there when faster hikers are passing
by.
Clean Up
Littering is absolutely the worst thing anyone can ever do during a hike. Leave no waste on the trail:
keep a paper bag or a pocket on your backpack for empty water bottles, paper towels, and food
wrappers. Throw them away in proper disposal facilities once you get back to civilisation. This also
applies if you re bring a dog along with you. Be sure to bring a waste bag and a pair of tongs to pick it
up. Remember, no one wants to see or smell your canine companion s excrement on the trail!
Enjoy the Silence
One of the best things about hiking is the noise of nature . The trail is full of the sound of singing
birds, gushing streams, and the music the wind plays when it rustles the leaves. It s relaxing and the
feeling they provide is something you would want to

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Stochastic Model
3.1 Deterministic models There are two types of model that we are going to look at, firstly the
deterministic model and then the stochastic model. [23]A deterministic model is used in a situation
where the result can be established straightforwardly from a series of conditions. It has no stochastic
elements and both the input and the outputs are determined conclusively. On the other hand a
stochastic model is one where the cause and effect relationship is stochastically or randomly
determined. Therefore the system having stochastic element is generally not solved analytically and
hence there are several cases for which it is difficult to build an intuitive perspective. When simulating
a stochastic model a random number is usually generated ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Speech On King Henry Viii
Henry VIII of England On June 28, 1491 King Henry VIII was born at Greenwich Palace in England.
He was the third child of Henry VII and Elizabeth of York. ( Henry VIII Biography.com. ) The first
child of Henry VII and Elizabeth was a boy named Arthur. The second child was a girl named
Margaret. The fourth child was a little girl named Mary. He also had three other siblings, but sadly
they did not survive their early childhood. When Henry was young, his parents encouraged him in his
studies. Since Henry studied so much, he became a very clever boy. He also loved writing poems. In
1502, Henry s older brother dies of an illness at age 15. Due to Arthur s death, Henry became the heir
apparent to the English throne. Many people believed he was going to be a great king because he had
received a great amount of schooling and he spoke many languages. Henry was also very athletic. He
was very experienced in jousting, hunting, tennis, and archery. As Henry grew older, he proved that he
would rule tyrannically due to his thirst for blood and power. He was not only selfish, but also
handsome. Other people even stated he had a hearty personality. ( Henry VIII Biography.com. )
Bloodshed seemed to be the typical method to solve Henry s problems. Henry made his mark as king
who would not let anybody in his way. He soon charged his father s two ministers, Orman 2 Sir
Richard Empson and Edmund Dudley with treason. In 1510, the two ministers were executed. Another

The Lake Tahoe basin is divided by the scenic and beautiful border of California and Nevada. The
gorgeous lake is, ...admired for its great depth and clarity and beautiful alpine surroundings
(tahoe.usgs.gov). The mountain ranges around the perimeter of the basin were formed 24 million years
ago by the rise and fall of the earth s crust due to the movement of faults. The Carson Range to the
east was created by tilt block faulting and resulted in a very steep mountain range
(tahoeadventuresports.com). Another fault created the Sierra Nevada range to the west, but is more of
a gentle change in elevation. As the fault blocks were thrown up, the high peaks of the mountain
ranges were created and as other fault blocks were thrown down, a valley was created. Some of the
peaks of the ranges can reach over 10,000 feet above sea level, making an exaggerated difference
between the lake and the ranges. Movement of other faults in the area caused the valley to sink
thousands of feet below the mountains on the east and west. Volcanic activity from Mt. Pluto on the
north shore resulted in lava flowing and blocking the outlet of the newly developing valley. About 3
million years ago the ice age created glaciers in the Sierra Nevada. As they moved and scoured the
land, lakes were created behind them as piles of granite rock were left to block the outflow of water
from melted snow and rainfall. Lake Tahoe, Fallen Leaf Lake, Cascade Lakes, and Donner Lake were
formed by this process. Lake Tahoe as we know it today is the third deepest lake in North America and
tenth deepest lake in the world, with the deepest part measuring 1645 feet. Not only are Tahoe s
geologic origins intriguing, but so is the history of the people inhabiting the

Your body can waste a lot of liquids and salts when you have diarrhea, making dehydration a
significant concern. Numerous loose and watery stools can immediately lead to fluid loss. Here are
some simple ways to remain hydrated: choose sports drinks because of their sugar and salt content,
both allow water to be more readily absorbed, and even more so when taken together. everyone can
make their personal sports drinks by combining a teaspoon of salt to a quarter cup of apple juice, that
tiny amount of salt will encourage the body absorb fluids but isn t sufficient to make the apple juice

How Children View Apologies
Apologies are very important and quite powerful in societies. People vary in how they view apologies,
specifically, children compared to adults. Children and adults are very different considering their
emotional development and it plays a large role in how they view apologies. Previous research on
apologies targeted adults, so there is not much known on how children view them. This is why Smith,
Chen, and Harris (2010) conducted a study focusing on how children view apologies on an emotional
level. The two emotional functions they studied was how a transgressor expressed their remorse and
the victim s alleviation of upset feelings after a moral transgression took place.

(2010) formulated many hypotheses which were the starting point in discovering the missing
information on this subject. They were first concerned with what the children s attributions would be
like to the transgressor, depending on whether they apologized or not. A study, that did not involve an
apology, was done by Nunner Winkler Sodian (1988) where they had discovered that 4 year olds
attributed positive emotions while 8 year olds were more likely to attribute negative feelings. Smith et
al. (2010) used the data from this happy victimizer study into consideration when formulating their
own hypothesis. They expected that when there was no apology given, young children would attribute
positive feelings, but older children would attribute mixed feelings. They came to this assumption for
the younger children because they focus mainly on whether the transgressor fulfilled their desire or
not. So, if they did fulfill it, they would attribute positive feelings. Which follows the happy victimizer
expectancy. Although Nunner Winkler Sodian (1998) found that older children attribute negative
feelings, they expected them to attribute mixed feelings for several reasons. Firstly, Arsenio Kramer
(1992) found 6 to 8 year olds to have mixed feelings; secondly, Nunner Winkler Sodain (1998) claim
that older children focus on the feelings of the transgressor about causing upset or harm when
attributing emotions. Also, they believed the happy victimizer expectancy would

stocks, which stock is worth to purchase as an investment. There are three conditions apply to
comparison processes: measures of central tendency, growth/loss extent analysis and trend test. The
intended stock needs to filter through the first two conditions and pass the trend test. First, GOOGL
shows a slight comparative advantage in measures of central tendency. The annual averages of the
growth rates for each stocks are all negative, while GOOGL holds the lowest record of 0.0507%. As
for the medians of those, GOOGL indicates a positive percentage of growth at the rate of 0.0127%; in
contrast, the other two stocks keep negative percentages. Thus, GOOGL is more likely to result in a
positive growth rate than the other two. Second, GOOGL illustrates a better future through
growth/loss extent analysis. The v lookup tables are set up based on mean, median, Q1, Q3, max and

Jake meets Benjamin for the first time he describes him as hot...tall and strapping, [in] a body suit
barely contain[ing] the young man s perfectly well built body. (266) The description of Benjamin
makes two things evident, 1. Even in the gay community there is a certain amount of pressure put on
looks and 2. Even in the gay community looks are one of the most important things first looked at.
On the other hand, Jake was a view entirely different. On page 31 he was described as wiry and pale
and then on page 136 his sister described him as skin and bones, signifying his more skinny and
fragile appearance. Although Benjamin fit the bill for how men, gay men specifically, are suppose to
look. Jake, on the other hand was the complete opposite of what gay men want their partners to look
like. Jake s appearance goes against what gay men are suppose to look like specifically, some could
even say that Jake was underdeveloped. For example, in the article, A Gay man and a Straight Woman
Talk body Image, Stern, the gay man, specifically says that what gay men are looking for is Not bony
and gangly! In the book this is exactly how Jake is described. In today s society you are suppose to

The purpose of this report is to explain various aspects of Augmented Reality. This Report briefly
describes the technology used, types, applications, cost of implementation, merits and demerits of
Augmented Reality.
Suppose you have a gadget, which displays information about the things you look at. For example,
you focus on a hotel and it displays everything available on internet about that hotel like its menu and

Augmented reality (AR) is the combined view of our surrounding with digital information
superimposed on it. It superimposes details about that particular thing available on internet, some
images and videos and GPS data. As a result, this technology improves the user s ability to see the real
world things by providing all necessary details in front of his eyes to him. The major point that
distinguish Augmented Reality from Virtual Reality is that Virtual Reality completely overlaps the real
world with simulated one while Augmented Reality allows the user to view the real world with just
small alterations to include details of particular things. So, from user s point of view both real and
virtual world would exist at same place. The advance augmented reality technology can recognise

Rhetorical Devices In Ground Zero
In the essay Ground Zero by Suzanne Berne writes about her very personal experience visiting
Ground Zero the place where the twin towers stood prior to the tragedy of 9/11. She uses rhetorical
devices throughout her essay to make the piece feel incredibly intimate and emotional to the reader.
She specifically uses imagery, tone, simile, and metaphor to explain her experience to Ground Zero in
a deeper and meaningful way to her readers. Berne uses rhetorical devices in her essay Ground Zero to
let her readers feel the same emotions and imagine the same things she saw on her visit to make the
essay very intimate and realistic. In Ground Zero Berne uses many examples of imagery and
metaphors to paint a descriptive picture of her surroundings and what she saw to enhance her reader s
experience. She uses the imagery to make her readers feel as if they were there and make them feel the
same feelings of awareness, and sadness she did. Suzanne achieves this by recalling back to the horrid
memories of 9/ll when the skyscraper shrouded in black plastic, the boarded windows, the steel
skeleton of the shattered Winter Garden. (Berne 176), By using these extremely explicit and
descriptive details Suzanne allows her readers to experience the rude awakening she had when she
saw nothing in Ground Zero, but was able to recall the chaos that went on that day. Suzanne lets her
readers understand what was going on in her mind , and clearly experience what she was feeling that

the kids Peter, Susan, Edmund, and Lucy follow him and join in the fight. He is good with fish
because he is able to catch them in the river quickly. Aslan is able to be resurrected after being killed
by the witch. He was resurrected after the he drinks from the deeper magic from the dawn of time.
Aslan had disciples who joined him in the fight against the witch. His disciples joined him once they
had enough of the witch ruling over the land. Aslan was very forgiving after being betrayed by
Edmund who joined the witch s side at first. Once he realized his mistake, Aslan forgave him. Aslan

The Family Ties in Frankenstein, Metamorphosis and Mother...
Family Ties The idea of using a family based theme in literature has been around for a long time.
When an author is writing a novel or even a play, it is very easy to include a strong family dynamic to
it. The family is something that nearly every person can relate with in one way or another. This
comfort springs forth emotions in the reader or viewer that make the story easier to follow along with.
There are many examples of this throughout this course, but this paper will focus on how three of
them use the family dynamic to connect with the reader: Mary Shelley s Frankenstein, Kafka s
Metamorphosis, and Brecht s Mother Courage and her Children. One does not have to read far into
Frankenstein to get a feel for this idea. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Right from the beginning of the first chapter, we are given a history of Victor s childhood and family
life. We learn about how Victor s father, Alphonse, and his mother, Caroline, became to know each
other and eventually get married. We also learn about another character, Elizabeth, who eventually
ends up being adopted into the family. It becomes clear that Shelley started out with this family
information in order to draw the reader into the story. Although the entire story is completely lacking
of a strong female character, we are still presented with the mother and the adopted sister, in an
attempt to try and help the reader of the story connect with Victor and his childhood (Komisaruk).
Later on in the story, Victor Frankenstein creates the monster. The monster eventually asks Victor to
create a mate for him. He wants the feeling of a female monster to love and share his life with. Again,
this is something that the majority of the readers can relate to. Shelley s wants the reader to have an
emotional connection with the monster. At first glance, one would not imagine that they would have
anything in common with a homemade creature, but it is proven to be different upon further reading.
Nearly everyone wants the felling of having someone to love and have them love you. The monster is
no different, so maybe he is not too different from the reader after all?
Overall, Shelley uses the family in an attempt to make the reader feel comfortable

Analysis Of Ernest Hemingway s Hills Like White Elephants
Discussing the Elephant in the Room The topic of Hills Like White Elephants by Ernest Hemingway
continues to be a hot button issue, even 90 years after the story s publication. Though not as
scandalous as it must have been in 1927, it remains the subject of great debate. Two lovers are
awaiting a train that will whisk them away to Madrid for the purpose of an abortion. Even though the
decision was made before arriving at the station, they continue to debate whether she will go through
with it. The American s persuasive dialogue makes it apparent that he wants Jig to have the abortion
and is concerned that she will change her mind, however she is more concerned with the fate of her
relationship with the man and the effects an abortion may have on her. The first indication of a
division between the lovers is the description of the setting where Hemingway writes ...the station was
between two lines of rails in the sun (2 3), the rail lines representing the two people and the station the
division between them. Upon arriving, they immediately orders two beers. The lovers order several
alcoholic drinks during their short 40 minute wait at the station, presumably to ease the tension and
calm the anxiety. Once the couple is settled with their drinks, Jig makes an observation about their
view of the hills, saying They look like white elephants, (9) to which the American responds I ve
never seen one, (10). Here is where the proverbial can of worms is opened. The woman

What It Means To Be A Peak Performer
In this discussion I will explain what it means to be a peak performer . A peak performer, is someone
who take risk and move beyond secure comfort zones. They make small steps that lead to long term
goals, continually acquire new skills, and perfect their competence. When you take a risk, that means
your doing something that you re not sure about. In life we re all faced with many challenges that
requires us to take certain risk. The key to it all is perfecting your mistakes while working toward your
goal. In this unit I learned that a peak performer is someone who sets a goal and take the proper steps
to reach them. Someone that s not perfect, but yet there re open to new ideas and new ways of
learning. After reading this unit I would say

STRATEGY 2: Monitor feeling while working at my internship site
One experience that made me glad that I did this internship is that I was really touched when a lady
was saying goodbye to me after I drop her off at her home. She told me to take care of myself and to
be a good girl. This experience touched me as someone I just met gave me some good blessing.
One of the things I didn t like while being at the internship was when I had to interact with two ladies.
I was told to instruct them in where to go for the activity we were doing. When I was instructing the
two ladies where to go, they were harsh on me with their comments as they were cranky. They kept
asking why we were starting the activity late and asking where everyone is and why there are no
people. It was hard to communicate with them as they kept complaining to me about the activity being
late.
I believe one of my vocational values is helping people or being there for people. I am able to achieve
this at my internship as I am able to help my supervisor with activity and setting things up. In addition,
I am able to assist the resident at the site as I am transporting them to places or sometime saying hi
which makes their

  • 3. What Is The Reflection In The Nature Of Things By... Lucretius in The Nature of Things explains that there are only two entities that make up bodies in the universe: matter and void. Matter is ever present and does not decay while the void is a nothingness that allows for motion and change. Marcus Aurelius in Meditations explains that matter and the soul are the components of the universe, with the soul in some sense filling the void. Lucretius void has a correlation to Aurelius soul. Both philosophers explain how the concept of the void is responsible and related to death, because it allows for disturbances to the balance within the being. Lucretius believes that the void is the cause of death, yet questions whether the soul travels with it. Aurelius questions how the soul can remain after death. Death is an abstract concept that Lucretius and Aurelius attempt to answer through matter and voids. Lucretius calls the void a nothingness, which is always empty, and matter a solid that is free of any void. Aurelius has an essence of somethingness to his void, the soul, and calls matter a static body. By adding the soul as a third component to reality, the Stoic Marcus Aurelius rejects the binary universe of Lucretius. Matter is defined by Lucretius as a primordial entity free of void and decay; they are the atoms that create entities. Atoms and primordial entities are synonymous with each other: the solidity of matter is called procreant atoms, matter, seeds of things, or primal bodies, as primal to the world (107 108). Lucretius uses all these words, emphasizing the simplicity of his philosophy. This simplicity is explained as he declares: primal bodies are solid, without a void (596). Because he believes that all entities are composed of primal bodies and a void, the primal body must be free of any void, thus giving substance to the object. He declares that entities are composed: partly primal germs of things, and partly unions deriving from the primal germs (566 567). This definition states that all matter consists of atoms, which, when combined, form molecules. Molecules, as defined by science, are the unions of atoms. This scientific principal is further explained: So primal germs have solid singleness, which tightly packed and closely ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Multinational Market Regions And Market Groups Essay The Company has set a goal of delivering more than $1 billion in cost savings over the next five years through global supply chain initiatives designed to achieve economies of scale and reduce costs by leveraging people, process, and technology (H.J. Multinational Market Regions and Market Groups Throughout the varying entities of the Heinz Corporation at least one thing remains constant, high expectations pertaining to corporate and social responsibility. Their pride in responsibility, along with their strict outline of rules and business standards, allows for swift and easy adaptations to local and regional group regulations (such as: NAFTA, the EU, CAFTA, ASEAN, etc). Although countries and regions have differing health standards and regulations for food, Heinz avoids complications with the countries respective economic unions or organizations due to the Company s nature of business. If a firm in the food industry wishes to compete on world level, the foremost outside force it will contend with and adapt to is culture. One way in which a country expresses its culture is through food. Since cultures change from region to region, one can see that it would be virtually impossible for a firm competing on a global scale to have one product which hails all markets and appeals to everyone s preferences. Therefore, Heinz does not have one product that it must mold to different rules and regulations in order to sell it to different markets. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Industrial Workers During The Gilded Age Similar to the farmers during the Gilded Age, industrial workers combatted poor working conditions, child labor, low wages, and long hours by forming labor unions and organizing strikes, ending as a massive failure. Early in the industrial era, there was no minimum wage, leaving it up to the factory owners to set the rate at which their workers were to be paid. Some owners did not pay their employees in cash but in company scrip which could be redeemed at the company store. The cell membrane is a very complex structure that allows the cell to perform the basic functions that are necessary for life. The cell membrane is selectively permeable because of its structure. It should also hurt Anne Sexton believed (Baym 2703), and evidence of this maxim s implications echoes loudly through the writing of Sexton as well as through the work of her friend and contemporary Sylvia Plath. Plath and Sexton s lifetimes spanned a period of remarkable change in the social role of women in America, and both are obviously feminist poets caught somewhere between the submissive pasts of their mothers and the liberated futures awaiting their daughters. However, Plath uses her father s German ancestry, as well as ideas about women s relationships with their fathers and husbands, to broaden the poem s significance beyond the scope of her own experience. Plath herself said that the poem related to the Electra complex, defined by The World Book Medical Encyclopedia as a Freudian theory about a young girl s possessive but repressed love for her father ( Electra Complex online). The child narrating Daddy, in a youthful, Kipling like rhythm, is haunted by her father s monumental presence in her world, calling him marble heavy, a bag full of God (Plath 2748). Both the poem s childlike cadence and the innocent description of a father still the center of a young girl s universe make it easy to re experience a youthful yearning for parental approval. When the father in the poem dies, the young girl spends much of her life searching for a way to understand and get close to him despite his absence. Advantages And Disadvantages Of Stochastic Model 3.1 Deterministic models There are two types of model that we are going to look at, firstly the deterministic model and then the stochastic model. [23]A deterministic model is used in a situation where the result can be established straightforwardly from a series of conditions. It has no stochastic elements and both the input and the outputs are determined conclusively. On the other hand a stochastic model is one where the cause and effect relationship is stochastically or randomly determined. Therefore the system having stochastic element is generally not solved analytically and hence there are several cases for which it is difficult to build an intuitive perspective. The Lake Tahoe basin is divided by the scenic and beautiful border of California and Nevada. The gorgeous lake is, ...admired for its great depth and clarity and beautiful alpine surroundings (tahoe.usgs.gov). The mountain ranges around the perimeter of the basin were formed 24 million years ago by the rise and fall of the earth s crust due to the movement of faults. The Carson Range to the east was created by tilt block faulting and resulted in a very steep mountain range (tahoeadventuresports.com). Another fault created the Sierra Nevada range to the west, but is more of a gentle change in elevation. As the fault blocks were thrown up, the high peaks of the mountain ranges were created and as other fault blocks were thrown down, a valley was created. Some of the peaks of the ranges can reach over 10,000 feet above sea level, making an exaggerated difference between the lake and the ranges. Movement of other faults in the area caused the valley to sink thousands of feet below the mountains on the east and west. Volcanic activity from Mt. Pluto on the north shore resulted in lava flowing and blocking the outlet of the newly developing valley. About 3 million years ago the ice age created glaciers in the Sierra Nevada. As they moved and scoured the land, lakes were created behind them as piles of granite rock were left to block the outflow of water from melted snow and rainfall. Lake Tahoe, Fallen Leaf Lake, Cascade Lakes, and Donner Lake were formed by this process. This is why Smith, Chen, and Harris (2010) conducted a study focusing on how children view apologies on an emotional level. They were first concerned with what the children s attributions would be like to the transgressor, depending on whether they apologized or not. A study, that did not involve an apology, was done by Nunner Winkler Sodian (1988) where they had discovered that 4 year olds attributed positive emotions while 8 year olds were more likely to attribute negative feelings. Smith et al. (2010) used the data from this happy victimizer study into consideration when formulating their own hypothesis. They expected that when there was no apology given, young children would attribute positive feelings, but older children would attribute mixed feelings. They came to this assumption for the younger children because they focus mainly on whether the transgressor fulfilled their desire or not. So, if they did fulfill it, they would attribute positive feelings. Which follows the happy victimizer expectancy. Although Nunner Winkler Sodian (1998) found that older children attribute negative feelings, they expected them to attribute mixed feelings for several reasons. Firstly, Arsenio Kramer (1992) found 6 to 8 year olds to have mixed feelings; secondly, Nunner Winkler Sodain (1998) claim that older children focus on the feelings of the transgressor about causing upset or harm when attributing emotions. The American s persuasive dialogue makes it apparent that he wants Jig to have the abortion and is concerned that she will change her mind, however she is more concerned with the fate of her relationship with the man and the effects an abortion may have on her. The first indication of a division between the lovers is the description of the setting where Hemingway writes ...the station was between two lines of rails in the sun (2 3), the rail lines representing the two people and the station the division between them. Upon arriving, they immediately orders two beers. The lovers order several alcoholic drinks during their short 40 minute wait at the station, presumably to ease the tension and calm the anxiety. Once the couple is settled with their drinks, Jig makes an observation about their view of the hills, saying They look like white elephants, (9) to which the American responds I ve never seen one, (10). STRATEGY 2: Monitor feeling while working at my internship site One experience that made me glad that I did this internship is that I was really touched when a lady was saying goodbye to me after I drop her off at her home. She told me to take care of myself and to be a good girl. This experience touched me as someone I just met gave me some good blessing. One of the things I didn t like while being at the internship was when I had to interact with two ladies. I was told to instruct them in where to go for the activity we were doing. When I was instructing the two ladies where to go, they were harsh on me with their comments as they were cranky. They kept asking why we were starting the activity late and asking where everyone is and why there are no people. It was hard to communicate with them as they kept complaining to me about the activity being late. I believe one of my vocational values is helping people or being there for people. I am able to achieve this at my internship as I am able to help my supervisor with activity and setting things up. In addition, I am able to assist the resident at the site as I am transporting them to places or sometime saying hi which makes their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
