Atoms In Electrons
Atoms in Electrons Energy levels in Atoms exist all over the world. Some atoms consist of protons
and neutrons making up a nucleus; they are surrounded by electrons. Rutherford made designs and
conclusions to develop his nuclear atomic model. Although Rutherford s model couldn t explain other
properties of elements, such as why metals or compounds of metals give off colors when the flame is
heated (Wilbraham et al 136). John Dalton. (Early nineteenth century) He combined an idea of
elements with the earlier theory of atoms. He had the following ideas about matter: (1) matter is made
up of atoms. (Wikipedia) Matter is made up of very tiny particles called atoms. Atoms of different
elements combine in simple whole number ratios to form chemical ... Show more content on

They are all somehow using electromagnetic radiation differ only in their wave length, frequency and
energy. All of these forms of energy as well as many others are organized to what is called The
electromagnetic spectrum. All types of electromagnetic energy travel through space as waves. So,
knowing what a wave is first, it is defined as the distance a wave travels as it completes the cycle. That
distance is measured in the appropriate pomegranate for length which can vary from pedometers to
kilometers. The frequency of a wave is the count of how many cycles occur in a given period of time,
and it is measured in hertz or in cycle per second. The speed of a wave is the product of its wave
length and frequency. Electromagnetic waves travel at a constant speed, which is the speed of light
through a vacuum. It follows through this relationship between speed, frequency, and wavelength; that
the wavelength is inversely proportional to the frequency. This means that if all else is equal, then
increasing the frequency of a wave will decrease the wave length

Male Gaze In Media
Male Gaze in Media
I have decided to introduce the issue of the male gaze in media. Male gaze being where everything is
done for the pleasure of male viewers (Mulvey, 1975) . This means that often women are sexually
objectified in the media. This issue is important because it affects how women view themselves. They
are being looked at while the men are doing the looking. Women view themselves as objects because
that is how they are portrayed in the media. Another reason why this issue is important is because it
creates unrealistic goals for little girls. Little girls should be empowered but they are not. A third
reason why this issue is important is because the male gaze is everywhere. This is a serious problem
because it happens in films, tv shows, halftime Super Bowl commercials, regular tv commercials, and
basically anything that is media related. All these reasons just cause women to view themselves in a
negative way. They know they cannot reach these unrealistic goals. The two changes that need to be
made in order to fix this issue is to allow more women in the filming industry and for males to stop
depicting everything for male viewers when female viewers exist too. Women should be encouraged
to direct movies or tv shows. This is why Wonder Woman became so popular. The director was a
female and did not give the male gaze. Women and little girls were refreshed to not see another
superhero movie through the male gaze. Women should be encouraged to conquer male dominated

The Impact of Technology
Technology, mainly computers and video games, have made a vast difference in our society. Many
years ago there were not very many forms of technology that existed. People often used type writers,
went, dancing, did puzzle, and played board games for entertainment. Nowadays, the use of computers
has become extremely popular. If an individual is not using a computer for some form on
entertainment, they are most likely using it for something along the lines of school or work.
Technology has gone from being a convenient tool to being a bad impact on society. Not only is it
insulting the intelligence of many young adults, but it is also taking away from one s social behavior.
Some people, however, disagree and think technology has made a ... Show more content on

For example, some will say that technology is very convenient and enhances knowledge. In his article,
Steven Lohr says, On average, students in online learning conditions performed better than those
receiving face to face instruction. Although this may be true for some individuals, there are a majority
of others who will argue that this statement is wrong. He also states, The real promise of online
education, experts say, is providing learning experiences that are more tailored to individual students
than is possible in classrooms. That enables more learning by doing, which many students find more
engaging and useful. This article is leaning more towards the idea that online education is a better
choice than classroom education. This idea could go both ways. It mostly depends on the preferred
learning style of the student. If the student learns better by reading the required learning material, then
he or she would probably agree that online courses are easier for them. However, if the student is a
more visual learner, then he or she may learn better by being in a classroom and being physically
taught. They may also agree that taking online courses make knowledge valueless. There are also
many individuals out there who will argue that video games have positive effects on children in our
society today. In an online article, James Robers shares that, The online video games that children play

Descartes Demon Doubt Essay
Throughout the Meditations, Descartes successfully establishes methodical doubt about math and all
sensory information, however, his answer to the doubt cast by the Evil Demon ploy does not fully
relieve the dilemma of skepticism that his intense application of doubt has brought forth. Ultimately,
Descartes is unable to satisfactorily answer the Evil Demon doubt because his argument does not
prove that God s existence would not prevent the serious errors in judgment and perception caused by
the Evil Demon doubt.
Descartes uses the Evil Demon hypothesis to prove that all one knows for sure is that they exist. To
call reality into doubt, Descartes supposes the existence of an all powerful, evil deceiver, a supposition
which he asserts he cannot know to be false. Descartes supposes that it is conceivable that this
deceiver has tricked him in every moment of what he perceived to be life, such that, every feeling and
every experience Descartes ever had was merely a sequence synthesized by the deceiver. This being
could powerful to not only manipulate our senses, but to cast doubt over other things such as
mathematics. Thus, he renders himself into a state of complete uncertainty and denial of all known
existence, since he cannot be certain that this deceiver does not exist. Any understanding or
knowledge that there is could simply be an illusion or false input. Later, Descartes refutes the
existence of such a being. Instead, he puts forth the assumption of a merciful God. His

The Politics Of The United States World Revolution

designed in their policies to ultimately benefit the United States and promote themselves in
international affairs, to be considered as a new power in the world. The united states world policies

Americans won important battles in America against the English like the battle of Thames in 1813,
also the English were also fighting a war with France so America was able to stand up to them. The
results of this were that Americans set and achieved a goal of maintaining free trade with other
superpowers respecting while America s trading rights of neutrality are respected.
The United States ever since its creation has had an idea of Isolationism, which has helped their
interests in world affairs. This is regarding wars with Europe the United States maintained a policy of
staying out of them thus staying out of any conflict. In 1793 George Washington passed the Neutrality
Proclamation act, which declared the nation neutral in the conflicts regarding England and France,
while still maintaining trade with both countries enriching the economy of the US In 1796 in
Washington s farewell address he advised to stay away from long term alliances from other nations,
keeping the idea of neutrality.. Regarding the Napoleonic wars the John Adams the president at the
time declared Neutrality from wars in Europe, thus leaving a space for America to keep progressing
instead of fighting a war America struggled with other nations especially France and England to

Seth Mydans
As the world becomes more globalized, English seems to dominate the world as the leader of
languages. Seth Mydans states in his article, Across Cultures, English is the Word, that English will
become the language of the world and that there is no slowing down. Mydans utilizes statistics to his
advantage throughout the majority of his article, noting that nearly eighty percent of the world s
electronic information is recorded in English and that around 400 million people speak English as a
first language, with 300 to 500 million as a second language. He also mentions that the United States,
the largest English speaking nation in the world, houses only twenty percent of the nation s English
speakers, with Asia having an estimated 350 million English speakers. These numbers help the
audience understand how widely known and valuable English is in modern day society, and, in turn,
establish logos in Mydans article.
These statistics didn t just come out of thin air, however. Mydans implemented quotes and facts given
by many different individuals who all study the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Near the beginning of the article, Mydans mentions an argument made by Nicholas Ostler, the author
of Empires of the Word, in that English will rise to a certain point and then ultimately collapse, just as
Latin did. Mydans later considers the argument Nerrière brings up in that English has too many words,
and a simpler form must be created in order for there to be a true global language. Mydans points out
these counterarguments as methods to emphasize that although there are doubts, English will and can
overcome other languages in one way or another as the dominant language of the world. Some readers
might think adding these counterarguments might hurt Mydans case, but as a skilled writer, Mydans
knows introducing these rebuttals will help accentuate his

Linville Valley Fire Case Study
Nestled deep in the mountains of Western North Carolina, the Linville Gorge is a federally designated
wilderness area that is part of Pisgah National Forest. This unique slice of southern Appalachia is
managed by the Grandfather Ranger District and is located in the Blue Ridge Escarpment near the
town of Marion, NC. To the east, Linville Gorge is bordered by Jonas Ridge, and the slopes of Linville
Mountain form the western border. The two steep sides create a terrain that is extremely rugged and
rocky, which would seemingly make it difficult for vegetation to establish communities on the canyon
walls. However, this is not the case, as the gorge has very dense populations of hardwoods, conifers,
and understory shrubs. The intimidating topography of the Linville Gorge Wilderness area enabled it

The fire began as the result of an out of control campfire, and because of high wind and drought
conditions which resulted in low fuel moisture spread relatively quickly for an upland fire in the
southeastern United States, although not to the scale of western wildfires. Even though the 2000
Linville Gorge fire was mainly a surface fire, the fire burned 4,000 hectares of wilderness area, and
forced local management agencies to start paying more attention to upland ecosystems that were not
previously thought to be fire dependent. Considering the magnitude of the fire, it was fortunate that no
human lives or homes were lost in the inferno. Vegetative studies show that Mountain Laurel (Kalmia
latifolia), an evergreen shrub, reproduced much faster than other understory species (Dumas, Neufeld,
Fisk, 2007). This is attributed to its ability to resprout following a fire. The Linville Gorge Fire has
been significant in shaping Southeastern fire mitigation in that it gave foresters an opportunity to study
oak pine forests that had not seen fire for over 50

Why Soldiers Won T Talk Analysis
Steinbeck/ Jarrel Essay World War I started on July 28, 1914, when Austria Hungary declared war on
Serbia. The problem between two countries spread quickly. Soon Germany, Russia, Great Britain, and
France were all drawn into the war. This is because they were involved in treaties that obligated them
to defend certain other nations. The U.S. got involved because they got mad about the attack upon its
ships in the Atlantic. Two wonderful men experienced these tragedies. John Steinbeck, and Randall
Jerrel. John Steinbeck wrote about the response of soldiers to combat, and the effects. He s the author
of Why Soldiers Won t Talk. But Randall Jarrel was a man who had actually been in the war. He is
also an author, he wrote The death Of the Ball Turret Gunner. The writings of both John Steinbeck and

Soluble lithium compounds are readily absorbed through the gastrointestinal tract but not the skin;
distribution is rapid to the liver and kidneys but slower to other organ systems

Lithium is distributed rapidly to the liver and kidneys following ingestion, but equilibrium between

The Movie, Good Will Hunting Essay
The movie, Good Will Hunting (1997), is about a young twenty year old man named Will Hunting.
Will Hunting lives in a rather impoverished area in South Boston and is a young janitor who typically
drinks with his friends in his free time, however, Will is actually an indiscreet self taught genius.
During the first week of classes at MIT, Will solves a difficult graduate level math problem that one of
the math professors left an extremely difficult problem on the board to challenge his students, in hopes
that someone would solve it by the end of the semester (Van Sant, 1997). However, Will solves the
problem but does not want to let anyone know that it was him that solved the difficult equation,
therefore it came to everyone s surprise when they discovered it was actually Will who solved the
problem in such a short matter of time, indicating his hidden intellect (Van Sant, 1997). Outside of
work, Will got into an argument with a group of boys who previously tried to bully him (Van Sant,
1997). Because of this incident, Will was arrested after hitting the officer who responded to the fight
(Van Sant, 1997). Throughout Will s trial, the math professor who initially wrote the problem on the
board, began intervening with his trial, after realizing Will s potential when he notices Will s intellect
in defending himself (Van Sant, 1997). The professor arranges a deal with the court and Will was
offered a choice, he could either go to jail, or he could be released into the professor s

Kathryn Stockett The Help
The Help is a book about a white group of women and their black maids in Jackson, Mississippi. It
takes place in 1962, a time where black people were poorly treated and used to work.
Kathryn Stockett was born in 1969 in Jackson, Mississippi. Her childhood memories of black people
as domestic help were a normal way of life to her. The author felt awful that it took her 20 years to
understand the unjust treatment of blacks. That, and the fact that she wanted people to see through the
duplicity of things in the South, are the reason she wrote this controversial novel. Throughout the
1900s black people were treated cruelly and since 1962, the year the book was placed in, America has
come a long way. Segregation back then was an everyday

Modern Drama And Modern Criticism
Nothing is harder to bring to life for a modern reader than the theatre of the past, Michael Booth states
in his book, English Melodrama, as an opening to his chapter the character of melodrama . Booth
resumes by saying that to reconstruct extinct theaters, to inhabit them once again with noisy
audiences, and to light them with flickering candles, harsh hissing gas, and soft multi colored pools of
limelight picking out actors long forgotten, acting in old fashioned ways in front of creaking flats and
jerking wings, is to make dead eyes see and dead ears hear. After research on this topic, I realized that
the task is even more difficult when the kind of theatre under discussion is now extinct, and toward
which modern drama and modern criticism is unsympathetic. This is the case with the melodrama of
the nineteenth century, the most popular dramatic form of its age, a form that depended more on
graphic exhilaration and the thrill of the moment qualities almost beyond critical recall than anything
ever written for the stage. Now it is all gone, and I will hopefully through this essay bring some of this
back to life. Yet because of its energy and vividness, something of its nature can be imparted.
Melodrama had never been rated highly by dramatic critics or historians, whose most contemptuous
word is melodramatic. To describe and raise it out of the neglect and contumely where it has generally
remained all this century, to show it so that it can at least be

It is an exciting moment because it is one of the first times that Edna Pontellier, the protagonist, feels
giddy with herself and her accomplishments.
In the preceding passage, Edna Pontellier swims for the first time by herself. Much is symbolized and
foreshadowed in this passage. Throughout the summer, Edna s husband, Mr. Pontellier, and many
other people have been trying to teach her. However, Edna was never able to swim with the help of
others. The fact that she finally is able to swim unaided symbolizes Edna s awakening sense of
independence and self reliance. The ocean parallels Edna s feelings. It is described with diction such
as space and solitude , vast expanse and unlimited. The words significant import...given her to control
the working of her body and her soul also support this. Edna realizes she is in control of herself and
can attain happiness by her own means. Similarly, the control Edna has over her body suggests her
awakening sense of sexuality. It is around the time of this swim that Edna acutely develops feelings
for Robert LeBrun.
The ocean that Edna swims in could also symbolize her awakening as a rebirth of herself. She is
described as a tottering, stumbling, clutching child when in the water. Throughout the novel, Edna is
often portrayed as a child. Rather than slowly easing into her independence at a rate that she could
handle and control, Edna seems to throw herself into it as a child

Meat Is The Staple Of The American Diet
Meat has become a staple in the American diet. According to an article published by
NPR, an average American was eating 207.7 pounds of meat per year in 2010 (Barclay). After
research came to light linking cholesterol and saturated fat found in meat products to heart disease,
new food and health guidelines have suggested lowering the amount of meat eaten in the average diet.
The new USDA food guidelines, MyPlate, were formed in 2010 and propose eating 5 ½ oz. of protein
foods a day for a basic 2,000 calorie diet. In their description of what type of protein foods to eat, they
promote more fish consumption, varying protein sources to include plant based proteins, and keeping
meat and poultry portions small and lean. While this is an improvement from past food guidelines, it is
not enough. The USDA is continuing to do
Americans a disservice by promoting meat consumption in general because it leads to serious health
problems, cruelty to animals, and environmental degradation.
One of the largest, most studied, and tangible arguments against eating meat is the negative health
effects it has on the human body. Its consumption has been linked to obesity, cancer, and many organ
disorders. According to a study published in the International Journal of
Obesity, there is a positive association between meat consumption and obesity (Wang and
Beydoun 621). The same study found that eating meat has been related to higher risks of many
chronic diseases, but increasing the consumption of

In today s society, the capital punishment known as the death penalty has played a major role in the
criminal justice system. It has brought important debates to the national attention in every aspect to
whether end the lives of criminals. With the intense media coverage, it raised high standards on
disputes on high profile cases such as serial killers. The attention given by the media towards capital

criminal justice system is now more defenseless than ever to change the public frame of mind and
political reaction as well. To be aware of the existing political and social circumstances of punishment,
in regards to the capital punishment, it is necessary to look at both in relation to the media.
With the attractions of the media, there are public opinion polls which provided the society s attitudes
about the death penalty. The resulting surveys show that the public support for the capital punishment
had risen and fall greatly over the past years. During the 1970s, when the capital punishment began to
make its executions, an increased fear of violence in crime, the public supported 60 percent favoring
executions (Von Drehle, 2006, p. 83). However, the public support of capital punishment continued to
rise in the next decade. According to the General Social Survey, the favor of capital punishment was
nearly 80 percent in 1994 (Von Drehle, 2006, p. 83). The public opinion regarding the death penalty
would follow a decrease support over the time. In 2006, the polls dropped to 55 percent, usually
because of the questioning of fairness and equality in the cases indicating if the criminal is innocent or
not (Von Drehle, 2006, p. 84). While seeing the result from above, the media has been the primary

Network Administrator Has Higher Level Of Control
LAN stands for Local Area Network. It is a type of network that covers a greater distance and it
interconnects computers and devices either wired or wireless. LAN is mainly used in private
organisations such as college or university. More or less everyone uses wireless router at home these
days and the user is able to connect between 5 10 devices wirelessly. The user can share the broadband
or the connection with ADSL by using Ethernet cables. Smaller LANs can connect at least 2 3
computers using one cable. It also depends on the size of the organisation. Smaller LANs are easier to
manage. The users need to be careful when using larger LANs and need to make sure that the network
within it is transmitted efficiently. The user can increase the number of computers connected by using
routers and switches. This ensures that the network administrator has higher level of control over the
network. IEEE 802.3 is the wired Ethernet used by LAN and therefore it is related to LAN. The set up
cost for LAN is relatively cheap. WAN stands for Wide Area Network. It is a type of network that
interconnects the LANs meaning it connects the LANs together over large distance. WAN is used in
school or college or in a joint network academy (Super Janet). WANs can be both public and private.

Yoshida had no father thougg, ever since he was born he had been told by his mother time after time,
Your father is our Lord (51). His religious mother told Yoshida that, because his father was the Lord
he could not always be present and therefore that was the result of his absence throughout Yoshiya s
childhood. His mother assured him that despite his father s nonexistence, he was always overlooking
him and had nothing but Yoshiya s best interests in mind. As the years continue, he abandons his faith
because of the unending coldness of the One who was his father: His dark, heavy, silent heart of stone

is all right for God to test man, why was it wrong for man to test God? (52). When Yoshiya follows
the man whom he believes to be his father into an empty baseball field, he is all of a sudden no where
to be found, kneeling on the pitcher s mound, Yoshiya gives himself up to the flow of time, saying
aloud, Oh God (68). Even Yoshida, in the end though, cannot totally abandon God anymore than he
can abandon the faith he barely comprehends. Yoshida, more uncertain then ever, desires answers,
answers that he hopes will fill his feeling of emptiness. Yoshida struggles against a profound sense of
loneliness that seems just as tenacious as it is

Language, Language And Personal Security
Proverbs chapter ten talks about quite a few topics, to list the moral categories mentioned throughout
the proverb there is diligence, laziness, language and personal security. This proverb comes from
Solomon and starts off with the difference between the foolish son and a wise son. The wise son gives
joy to the to the parent whereas the foolish one brings sorrow. In the same sort of comparison
continuing on with the foolish like the lazy and the wise like the diligent, the proverb continues on in
saying that lazy people are quick to become poor and the diligent person who s hardworking will
acquire wealth. That the wise are willing to be instructed and people go about safely when they have
integrity. Language as another moral category ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ending with language again the godly provides wise counsel unlike form the deceitful tongue of the
wicked that will be cut off.
Chapter eleven of Proverbs deals with the moral categories of first integrity then judgment, personal
prudence, kindness, cruelty, generosity and selfishness. Beginning with integrity the proverbs speaks
of the prideful leading themselves to disgrace and that wisdom is produced through humility. Godly
people get their direction from being honest, honesty also is the form which guidance is given but only
to those who are good. So when it comes to integrity not being prideful, humility, honesty and
godliness are key characteristics that one needs in order to maintain a good integrity fitting to the
Lord. When it comes to God s judgment riches won t help people on that day much less their sin as
well as ambition these in turn only trap them making them fall instead. Truly only the godliness of
people is the quality that rescues them in implying the day of judgment. So dishonest gain is
something that the Lord hates being something that is not good when facing him while he is angry.
Then personal prudence is explained in when the proverb talks about a nation falling due to lack of
wise leadership, but just the opposite happens that is safety that comes to those with several

Essay about Billie Holiday
Billie was born to the name, Eleanora Fagan on April 7, 1915. She was born in Philadelphia but grew
up in the Fell s Point section of Baltimore. Her mother, was just 13 at the time of her birth; her father,
was 15. Holidays teenage parents, Sadie Harris (aka Fagan) and probable father, Clarence Holiday,
never married, and they did not live together for a long time. Clarence, a banjo and guitar player
worked with Fletcher Henderson s band in the early 30s. He remains a shady figure who left his

She was the starving musician, the jazz singer who did all she could to stay alive and still do what she

fashion, depending upon her excellent ear, unique voice and honesty and love for people to keep her
love alive.
Billie Holiday spent 1934 moving up the rungs of the competitive New York bar scene. By early 1935,
she made her debut at the Apollo Theater and appeared in a one reeler film with Duke Ellington She
made her first record with Benny Goodman. In 1935, she got her big breakthrough when she recorded
four sides, which featured What a Little Moonlight Can Do, and Miss Brown to You. She made the
songs classics because of her singing ability. Her voice quality wasn t outstanding and her vocal range
was limited, but she had an uncanny ability to breathe life into a song, using things like pauses and
slurs which made the song become a story or an experience, rather than just a group of notes sang with
a voice.
During 1936, Holiday toured with groups led by Jimmie Lunceford and Fletcher Henderson, then
went back to New York for several more recording sessions. In later January of 1937, she recorded
several songs with a small group from one of Hammond s newest discoveries, Count Basie s

Reflection On The Continuous Process Improvement And LEAN
The second guest speaker that talked to our class was Andrew Peacock. He talked to us about the
Continuous Process Improvement and LEAN. Andre Peacock is a Senior Process Engineer at OPPD
and works in a group called Operations Analysis. He mentioned that LEAN focuses on bottom to top,
instead of the usual top to bottom in an organization. I will talk about his presentation and about the
simulation that we ended with. Andrew Peacock started out by telling us what LEAN is and isn t. The
first time I heard LEAN I did think it stood for something, but Andrew reassured us that it is not an
acronym nor does it have anything to do with working out to get lean. Because that is what you will
get if you type it into Google. But what he did tell us is that LEAN is a process of evaluating and
doing whatever it takes to improve. This process helps clear up waste from an organization, like
making sure that customers don t stay on the phone too long without talking to someone, or spending
unnecessary time looking for something in an office because it was not put in the right place. Just like
our first guest speaker, Dave Klug, Andrew mentioned that LEAN does not happen without culture.
LEAN was originally adopted with Toyota, and with its founder Henry Ford. When LEAN first started
its results were things such as safe working conditions, higher customer value, and reduced frustration.
Now LEAN has turned into much more than just improving those three things in a company. LEAN

What Are The Pros And Cons Of Immigration
Immigration is the movement through which an individual permanently moves from their place of
residence from one country to another. Immigration is a topic which divides political parties and
general debate. Whilst some people see the positives of immigration, such as the filling of skill gaps in
low and highly skilled jobs, others see the negatives of immigration, such as the strain on services
such as the NHS, schools and housing.
Firstly, there are clear benefits to immigration. Different communities have moved to Great Britain
from as early as 250AD, such as the Indian, Irish, African and Jewish communities. Immigration has a
long history. However, high levels of immigration started during the period of 1946 1948. This was
around the end of the second world war, when there were labour shortages in Britain and the rest of
Europe. The government had to look for immigrants to fill these shortage gaps. In particular157,000
Polish citizens allowed to settle in the UK partly because of ties and connections made during the war
years.
The government was unable to recruit enough people from Europe to fill these labour shortages and so
turned towards west India. Many men from the West Indies had fought for the mother country and had
moved back to civilian life in their home country where there were few work opportunities. Their
sense of patriotism, coupled with the need of work, steered them back towards the UK. On the 22nd of
June 1948, the ship Windrush docked at Tilbury in

With a little education and some positive exposure, more of us would see just how wonderful these

Reflection About Psalm
Exactly what does this psalm mean to you? Does it remind you of a funeral that you attended in the
past? That would not be uncommon since in the 20th century it has been associated with and used at
funerals both on film and in real life arenas. Yet, I implore you to take a closer look at it in order to
find another way of looking at it. You might be surprised that it represents the very essence of what is
going on in our society today. There are times when it is difficult to address some of the most horrific
experiences and happenings occurring on a daily basis. I am asking you to take a moment and apply
this to what God has offered us as represented in the 23rd Psalm. We all walk through the valley of the

The thoughts that ran through my mind as I told myself to remain calm in order to keep my brother
calm were excessive. But I had a job to do. I had to keep my cool. As the paramedics arrived and I

with life sustaining machinery I said a prayer to myself and continued to keep my cool. My mother

she came to. At this point I proceeded to head to Newark, NJ where she was taken to ICU and placed
on a respirator with a grim prognosis due to her medical history and extent of her stroke that could be

me psalm 23. I remembered the words verbatim to it. I started pondering the meaning behind the
words and exactly what it may represent. I recognized the trouble as being the fear of death at this
point and walking through the valley of the shadow of death. But where was the grace? I knew I
needed to find the grace no matter what the outcome of my mother s situation. I needed to find the
grace. The grace in the psalm is witnessed in the fourth verse. I will fear no evil, for thou art with me.

Alexander garnered the support of the Macedonian Army and eliminated his enemies to become king

Job Experience Essay
Nearly seven years ago, when I started working for the local DirecTV installation company, it wasn t

than desirable were the hot attics, damp crawlspaces where I wasn t always the only thing crawling
around and the loose eaves near ideal dish mounting locations that were often home to swarms of

Less than a week into the job I was offered a promotion of sorts. They needed inspectors to verify that

installer. The first paycheck I received had an error in it. I was told by my Manager at the Paducah
Office to call the corporate office and talk to payroll directly and they would handle it. I regularly
heard new employees being told, Call payroll and ask for an advance , not just due to pay errors, but
also to cover the startup costs of tools and ladders. This advice would soon lead to disaster.
For the first time in several months I was going to Atlanta, Georgia to visit my daughter for the
weekend. I had received one puny paycheck and one nice one, but had spent everything to get caught
up on bills that had accumulated during my unemployment. So, I did what experience and observation
had taught me to do, I called payroll and asked for a relatively small advance to cover my weekend
trip. Without incident a check showed up at the office the next day and my wife and I were off for a
fun weekend with my daughter. It wasn t until late the next week that all hell began to break loose.

operation to save 52 American hostages trapped inside Tehran,Iran known as Operation Eagle Claw.
.The Operation was broken up into two phases. The first phase was to take place in Iran at a site called
Desert One. Desert One was an Airstrip for USAF special operations to use to land aircraft such as the
MC130, AC130H, and the RH53D. The MC130 was a fixed wing aircraft meant to transport ground
forces, the C130H was a gunship for security, and the RH53D was a mine sweeper and transported
ground forces. The RH53D was flown by United States Marine Corps aviators from the carrier USS
Nimitz. The plan was that these aircraft would fly under radar to Desert One, the men would offload at
the site, The Helicopters would refuel and be concealed at Desert Two. The next night the American
Forces would then extract the hostages, get to a soccer stadium where they would be picked up by
RH53D mine sweeping helicopters. The assaulting force would hit the compound with the security

Mary Queen Of Scots By William Shakespeare
Mary I of England, not to be confused with her cousin Mary Queen of Scots, is most commonly
referred to as one of the most, if not the most vicious and blood thirsty monarchs in English history
and few of them have been given reputations as infamous as hers. Mary was obsessed with the quest
to return England from the Protestant Church of England to its Catholic tradition during her three year
reign as Queen of England. Mary s insistence on creating a Catholic English nation stemmed from
resentment held for her father King Henry VIII s decision to break away and create his own religion,
harboring the Reformation period. These reforms were ultimately reversed under Mary, who was
determined to achieve her goals at any cost. Mary was not afraid to remove anyone who stood in her
path of reform. Fueled by her loyalty and love for the Catholic Church, Mary s reputation and legacy
of Bloody Mary was created as she sought to create her Catholic nation, at the expense of the
hundreds of Protestants that were murdered under her reign. Born on February 18, 1516, Mary Tudor
was the fifth child but the only child of Henry Tudor VIII and his first wife Catherine of Aragon who
survived to live until adulthood (Doran). She was baptized soon after her birth and was raised in the
Catholic tradition of her mother. Mary was sent off by her father to live in Wales, and was constantly
set up for marriages with princes and other nobility. She was taught by an English tutor was a prolific

This was the beginning of the coming Holocaust.
In 1941, Germans started to transport the people they believed were the least useful from the ghettos
to the concentration camps. Many of these people were sick, old and very young. On March 17, 1942,
the first gassings began at the camp of Belzec. From then, five more mass killing centers were built at
camps in Poland. Between 1942 and 1945, Jews were taken to the camps from all over Europe. In
Warsaw ghetto, 300,000 Jews were taken and placed into a camp and at Auschwitz more than 2
million people were murdered. Within the labor camps, there was a large population of Jewish and non
Jewish prisoners who were not only gassed, but thousands of others either died of disease or
starvation. A large proportion of Hungary s Jewish population was taken to Auschwitz, killing as many
as 12,000 Jews every day.
The high amount of killings made this camp impossible to keep a secret. The mass killings that were
occurring could not be kept behind closed doors for too long, eventually the world would find out
what was going on and it would come to an end. By 1945, German leadership was dissolving and
Hitler lost his power. In his last will and political testament, Hitler blamed the war on International

Developing character is something that comes with time. I believe that there are three major things
that effect how people develop their character where they are from, which includes their financial
status; how they are raised; and the character of the people that have had the most influence on their
lives. Sylvia, in Toni Cade Bambara s The Lesson, is very much influenced by all of these factors.
Sylvia s living in the slums and being poor makes her defensive and judgmental. Her parents not being

infrequently throughout the story, do not seem to have too much involvement with their daughter. This

sequencers, sampling, effects processing, musical instrument digital interface (MIDI), use of computer
technology, hard disk recording systems and modern day virtual studio technology (VST s). These all
fundamentally build the genre of electronic music, as we know it today. The development of this new
technology brought many new genres to music, mostly popular, Electronic Dance Music being one of
these.

At the time, British inventor, Peter Zinovieff and American Composer, Raymond Scott were both
looking into basic electronic sequencing, however it was Buchla that had the initial breakthrough.
Before then, artists were manually cutting up and splicing tape together to achieve sequences and
Buchla found an electronic alternative and soon developed his electronic sequencer. This meant that
artists would no longer need to go through the time consuming process of cutting up tape for
sequencing. Buchla said, you could simply take my sequencer and set the time and the pitch for each
interval. So that required, of course, a voltage controlled oscillator, and from then it led to a bunch of
other ideas (Pinch, 2004, p.40).
It was after the moog synthesizer that companies and inventors, much like Buchla, had started to look
at other ways of evolving electronics into music. The Minimoog was a monophonic instrument, and
instruments like the APR odyssey were soon after introduced that allowed duophony possible on
synthesizers. The APR odyssey mk I was released in 1972, and was an aesthetically pleasing
duophonic synthesizer, making it easy for a performer to tweak the parameters of the synthesized
sound with sliders. By the mid 1970 s, well known companies like Sequential Circuits and Yamaha
had developed more advanced keyboard matrices, allowing polyphony to be introduced to the
electronic music scene. One

Passer To Play Volleyball
A new sport was invented by William Morgan in 1895. Morgan was an instructor at a YMCA and
blended elements of basketball, baseball, tennis, and handball to create this new sport. (Evdokimoff
2011) Since the ball was volleyed over a net, it soon became known as volleyball. According to
Evdokimoff, the first official game was played at Massachusetts College in 1896. Volleyball is
considered an easy sport to those who have never played; however, it involves many skills, much
determination, and constant communication. On the offensive end, passing is the first thing that must
be done.
In order for the setter to set the ball, the passer must make a good pass. The passer has to judge
whether or not the serve or the hit is in or out. Next, a passer will move his or her body behind the
ball. While staying low, the passer then turns his or her shoulders towards the target, the setter. It ...

The hitter s first job is to try to block the opposing team s attack. Then the hitter must get off the net
and be ready for the set. If the ball does not come, the hitter must cover the person who is hitting. In
an attacking situation, the hitter must jump, make contact with the ball at its highest peak, and snap the
wrist. In volleyball, all players have a specific job, but must rely on each other to get individual jobs
done. Communication is the biggest key to a good volleyball team. First, a passer must call the ball if
able to make the pass. If players do not talk and claim the ball, it may hit the floor. Also, the setter has
to tell his or her teammates if he or she can get to the second hit. Finally, everyone who is not hitting
should talk to the hitter. It is imperative to share where to place the hit, if tipping is a better option, and
how many blockers there are. Miscommunication could cost the team a point or even the game. The
game of volleyball is all about working as a team and

Handmaid s Tale By Margaret Atwood
Dystopian themes have been displayed throughout time dating back to ancient times, and literature has
found its way to make its argument about dystopian society by sending a message to the near future as
a warning to what may happen, through creative and exemplary writing the book 1984 gave a great
example of what society might in the modern world. The book Handmaid s Tale by Margaret Atwood
displayed a dystopian society, focusing on women presenting problems of sexism towards women,
fighting alongside feminism. turn into language and power occurs a lot in the book, and it is displayed
through the government s control, Offred s thoughts. Three main examples are neologisms, biblical

The Keystone Xl ( Kxl ) Pipeline
In the October of 2015, oil prices have dropped to their lowest since 2008 and Canada has lost over
35,000 jobs, and the value of the loonie has dropped to a mere 77 cents compared to the U.S. Dollar.
As Canada desperately clings onto the failing economy, it turns its attention to The Keystone
Pipelines. The Keystone XL (KXL) pipeline was an idea proposed in 2008 by the TransCanada energy
company, to deliver 830,000 barrels of oil each day beginning in Hardisty, Alberta, and extending
south to Steele City, Nebraska. TransCanada claims to bring more jobs, energy security, and benefit to
the Canadian and American economy. Yet, President Obama denied the proposal in 2015. Although it
was a huge disappointment to Canada, the decision to deny permission for further construction of the
pipeline was the right one. The future of Canada s economy should not rely on the Keystone XL
pipeline, because the devastating environmental risks, the instability of the oil industry, and Canada s
ability to expand other industries.
The main reason President Obama rejected the proposal of Keystone XL was due to environment
concerns. As quoted from Salon News President Obama s decision to deny permission for construction
of the Keystone Pipeline may turn out to be a momentous event in the history of our efforts to protect
our planet from environmental disaster. The construction and use of Keystone XL will greatly risk the
environment, and because of this, it should not be built, and Canada

Essay Comparing Beowulf and The Saga of King Hrolf Kraki
Beowulf and The Saga of King Hrolf Kraki
There are so many similarities between the hero of the poem Beowulf and The Saga of King Hrolf
Kraki, an Iceland saga representing 1000 years of oral traditions prior to the 1300 s when it was
written, that these similarities cannot be attributed solely to coincidence.
The Cambridge History of English and American Literature states that the hero of the poem, Beowulf
himself, may be the same person as Bodvar Biarki, the chief of Hrolfr Kraki s knights (v1, ch3, s3,
n13). George Clark in The Hero and the Theme mentions: The form of Beowulf taken as a whole
suggests both the Bear s Son folktale type (especially as we find it in Scandinavia) and the combat
myth . . . . (286). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Bodvar avenges wrongs done to his family by killing the one who did the injustices; Beowulf avenges
wrongs done to his family: he avenged Heardred s death, I repaid Hygelac ... with my bright sword, I
was the killer of Daghrefin.
When King Hring took sick and died, Bodvar became ruler of the kingdom; when Heardred was killed
in battle, Beowulf became king. Bodvar thought of others first; he found support for his mother before
leaving his people; Beowulf likewise placed the concerns of others before his own, putting his life in
jeopardy in order to satisfy a family debt to King Hrothgar for paying wergild for the hero s father s
indiscretion as a young man.
Bodvar leaves Gautland to travel to the kingdom of the Danes; Beowulf leaves Geatland to travel to
the kingdom of the Danes. Bodvar goes to King Hrolf, widely known for his generosity, magnificence
and courage; Beowulf goes to King Hrothgar, widely known for the same virtues. In Denmark Bodvar
meets a farmer who thinks that the hero is imposing; in Denmark Beowulf meets a coast guard who
considers him imposing. The farmer s wife says to Bodvar, Your hand seems to be strong. . . . (48);
Beowulf s handgrip was so strong that he ripped off Grendel s arm and shoulder; he had the strength
of thirty in his mighty hand grip

Only once in a lifetime is one blessed to witness legendary athletes perform and break records. I was
fortunate enough to witness the even during my generation when Michael Phelps smashed world
records in 1 sensational week that took the sporting world by storm. Phelps rose to stardom and soon

quick glance, one would assume that Phelps became a sensation overnight. But a deeper research into
the strategy that made Michael Phelps the sportsman he is, is astounding and shows that a proper
brand building, hard work and commitment towards the set targets and goals can reap dividends. The
following case study answers some of the questions asked in the book Strategic Management by

Although Rutherford s model couldn t explain other properties of elements, such as why metals or compounds of metals give off colors when the flame is heated (Wilbraham et al 136). John Dalton. (Early nineteenth century) He combined an idea of elements with the earlier theory of atoms. He had the following ideas about matter: (1) matter is made up of atoms. All of these forms of energy as well as many others are organized to what is called The electromagnetic spectrum. All types of electromagnetic energy travel through space as waves. So, knowing what a wave is first, it is defined as the distance a wave travels as it completes the cycle. That distance is measured in the appropriate pomegranate for length which can vary from pedometers to kilometers. The frequency of a wave is the count of how many cycles occur in a given period of time, and it is measured in hertz or in cycle per second. The speed of a wave is the product of its wave length and frequency. Electromagnetic waves travel at a constant speed, which is the speed of light through a vacuum. It follows through this relationship between speed, frequency, and wavelength; that the wavelength is inversely proportional to the frequency. This means that if all else is equal, then increasing the frequency of a wave will decrease the wave length ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Male Gaze In Media Male Gaze in Media I have decided to introduce the issue of the male gaze in media. Male gaze being where everything is done for the pleasure of male viewers (Mulvey, 1975) . This means that often women are sexually objectified in the media. This issue is important because it affects how women view themselves. They are being looked at while the men are doing the looking. Women view themselves as objects because that is how they are portrayed in the media. Another reason why this issue is important is because it creates unrealistic goals for little girls. Little girls should be empowered but they are not. A third reason why this issue is important is because the male gaze is everywhere. This is a serious problem because it happens in films, tv shows, halftime Super Bowl commercials, regular tv commercials, and basically anything that is media related. All these reasons just cause women to view themselves in a negative way. They know they cannot reach these unrealistic goals. The two changes that need to be made in order to fix this issue is to allow more women in the filming industry and for males to stop depicting everything for male viewers when female viewers exist too. Women should be encouraged to direct movies or tv shows. This is why Wonder Woman became so popular. The director was a female and did not give the male gaze. Women and little girls were refreshed to not see another superhero movie through the male gaze. Women should be encouraged to conquer male dominated ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 8. Descartes Demon Doubt Essay Throughout the Meditations, Descartes successfully establishes methodical doubt about math and all sensory information, however, his answer to the doubt cast by the Evil Demon ploy does not fully relieve the dilemma of skepticism that his intense application of doubt has brought forth. Ultimately, Descartes is unable to satisfactorily answer the Evil Demon doubt because his argument does not prove that God s existence would not prevent the serious errors in judgment and perception caused by the Evil Demon doubt. Descartes uses the Evil Demon hypothesis to prove that all one knows for sure is that they exist. To call reality into doubt, Descartes supposes the existence of an all powerful, evil deceiver, a supposition which he asserts he cannot know to be false. Descartes supposes that it is conceivable that this deceiver has tricked him in every moment of what he perceived to be life, such that, every feeling and every experience Descartes ever had was merely a sequence synthesized by the deceiver. This being could powerful to not only manipulate our senses, but to cast doubt over other things such as mathematics. Thus, he renders himself into a state of complete uncertainty and denial of all known existence, since he cannot be certain that this deceiver does not exist. Any understanding or knowledge that there is could simply be an illusion or false input. Later, Descartes refutes the existence of such a being. During the first week of classes at MIT, Will solves a difficult graduate level math problem that one of the math professors left an extremely difficult problem on the board to challenge his students, in hopes that someone would solve it by the end of the semester (Van Sant, 1997). • 18. Modern Drama And Modern Criticism Nothing is harder to bring to life for a modern reader than the theatre of the past, Michael Booth states in his book, English Melodrama, as an opening to his chapter the character of melodrama . Booth resumes by saying that to reconstruct extinct theaters, to inhabit them once again with noisy audiences, and to light them with flickering candles, harsh hissing gas, and soft multi colored pools of limelight picking out actors long forgotten, acting in old fashioned ways in front of creaking flats and jerking wings, is to make dead eyes see and dead ears hear. After research on this topic, I realized that the task is even more difficult when the kind of theatre under discussion is now extinct, and toward which modern drama and modern criticism is unsympathetic. This is the case with the melodrama of the nineteenth century, the most popular dramatic form of its age, a form that depended more on graphic exhilaration and the thrill of the moment qualities almost beyond critical recall than anything ever written for the stage. Now it is all gone, and I will hopefully through this essay bring some of this back to life. Yet because of its energy and vividness, something of its nature can be imparted. Melodrama had never been rated highly by dramatic critics or historians, whose most contemptuous word is melodramatic. • 20. Meat Is The Staple Of The American Diet Meat has become a staple in the American diet. According to an article published by NPR, an average American was eating 207.7 pounds of meat per year in 2010 (Barclay). After research came to light linking cholesterol and saturated fat found in meat products to heart disease, new food and health guidelines have suggested lowering the amount of meat eaten in the average diet. The new USDA food guidelines, MyPlate, were formed in 2010 and propose eating 5 ½ oz. of protein foods a day for a basic 2,000 calorie diet. In their description of what type of protein foods to eat, they promote more fish consumption, varying protein sources to include plant based proteins, and keeping meat and poultry portions small and lean. While this is an improvement from past food guidelines, it is not enough. The USDA is continuing to do Americans a disservice by promoting meat consumption in general because it leads to serious health problems, cruelty to animals, and environmental degradation. One of the largest, most studied, and tangible arguments against eating meat is the negative health effects it has on the human body. Its consumption has been linked to obesity, cancer, and many organ disorders. With the attractions of the media, there are public opinion polls which provided the society s attitudes about the death penalty. The resulting surveys show that the public support for the capital punishment had risen and fall greatly over the past years. It also depends on the size of the organisation. Smaller LANs are easier to manage. The users need to be careful when using larger LANs and need to make sure that the network within it is transmitted efficiently. Yoshida had no father thougg, ever since he was born he had been told by his mother time after time, Your father is our Lord (51). His religious mother told Yoshida that, because his father was the Lord he could not always be present and therefore that was the result of his absence throughout Yoshiya s childhood. His mother assured him that despite his father s nonexistence, he was always overlooking him and had nothing but Yoshiya s best interests in mind. As the years continue, he abandons his faith because of the unending coldness of the One who was his father: His dark, heavy, silent heart of stone (52). After the Kobe earthquake and having faced so many losses, Yoshida asks the question why if it is all right for God to test man, why was it wrong for man to test God? (52). When Yoshiya follows the man whom he believes to be his father into an empty baseball field, he is all of a sudden no where to be found, kneeling on the pitcher s mound, Yoshiya gives himself up to the flow of time, saying aloud, Oh God (68). Even Yoshida, in the end though, cannot totally abandon God anymore than he can abandon the faith he barely comprehends. Godly people get their direction from being honest, honesty also is the form which guidance is given but only to those who are good. So when it comes to integrity not being prideful, humility, honesty and godliness are key characteristics that one needs in order to maintain a good integrity fitting to the Lord. He talked to us about the Continuous Process Improvement and LEAN. Andre Peacock is a Senior Process Engineer at OPPD and works in a group called Operations Analysis. He mentioned that LEAN focuses on bottom to top, instead of the usual top to bottom in an organization. I will talk about his presentation and about the simulation that we ended with. Andrew Peacock started out by telling us what LEAN is and isn t. The first time I heard LEAN I did think it stood for something, but Andrew reassured us that it is not an acronym nor does it have anything to do with working out to get lean. Because that is what you will get if you type it into Google. But what he did tell us is that LEAN is a process of evaluating and doing whatever it takes to improve. This process helps clear up waste from an organization, like making sure that customers don t stay on the phone too long without talking to someone, or spending unnecessary time looking for something in an office because it was not put in the right place. Just like our first guest speaker, Dave Klug, Andrew mentioned that LEAN does not happen without culture. LEAN was originally adopted with Toyota, and with its founder Henry Ford. When LEAN first started its results were things such as safe working conditions, higher customer value, and reduced frustration. Now LEAN has turned into much more than just improving those three things in a company. LEAN ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 27. What Are The Pros And Cons Of Immigration Immigration is the movement through which an individual permanently moves from their place of residence from one country to another. Immigration is a topic which divides political parties and general debate. Whilst some people see the positives of immigration, such as the filling of skill gaps in low and highly skilled jobs, others see the negatives of immigration, such as the strain on services such as the NHS, schools and housing. Firstly, there are clear benefits to immigration. Different communities have moved to Great Britain from as early as 250AD, such as the Indian, Irish, African and Jewish communities. Immigration has a long history. However, high levels of immigration started during the period of 1946 1948. This was around the end of the second world war, when there were labour shortages in Britain and the rest of Europe. The government had to look for immigrants to fill these shortage gaps. In particular157,000 Polish citizens allowed to settle in the UK partly because of ties and connections made during the war years. The government was unable to recruit enough people from Europe to fill these labour shortages and so turned towards west India. Many men from the West Indies had fought for the mother country and had moved back to civilian life in their home country where there were few work opportunities. Their sense of patriotism, coupled with the need of work, steered them back towards the UK. On the 22nd of June 1948, the ship Windrush docked at Tilbury in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Mary Queen Of Scots By William Shakespeare Mary I of England, not to be confused with her cousin Mary Queen of Scots, is most commonly referred to as one of the most, if not the most vicious and blood thirsty monarchs in English history and few of them have been given reputations as infamous as hers. Mary was obsessed with the quest to return England from the Protestant Church of England to its Catholic tradition during her three year reign as Queen of England. Mary s insistence on creating a Catholic English nation stemmed from resentment held for her father King Henry VIII s decision to break away and create his own religion, harboring the Reformation period. These reforms were ultimately reversed under Mary, who was determined to achieve her goals at any cost. Mary was not afraid to remove anyone who stood in her path of reform. Fueled by her loyalty and love for the Catholic Church, Mary s reputation and legacy of Bloody Mary was created as she sought to create her Catholic nation, at the expense of the hundreds of Protestants that were murdered under her reign. Born on February 18, 1516, Mary Tudor was the fifth child but the only child of Henry Tudor VIII and his first wife Catherine of Aragon who survived to live until adulthood (Doran). She was baptized soon after her birth and was raised in the Catholic tradition of her mother. Before then, artists were manually cutting up and splicing tape together to achieve sequences and Buchla found an electronic alternative and soon developed his electronic sequencer. This meant that artists would no longer need to go through the time consuming process of cutting up tape for sequencing. Buchla said, you could simply take my sequencer and set the time and the pitch for each interval. So that required, of course, a voltage controlled oscillator, and from then it led to a bunch of other ideas (Pinch, 2004, p.40). It was after the moog synthesizer that companies and inventors, much like Buchla, had started to look at other ways of evolving electronics into music. The Minimoog was a monophonic instrument, and instruments like the APR odyssey were soon after introduced that allowed duophony possible on synthesizers. The APR odyssey mk I was released in 1972, and was an aesthetically pleasing duophonic synthesizer, making it easy for a performer to tweak the parameters of the synthesized sound with sliders. By the mid 1970 s, well known companies like Sequential Circuits and Yamaha had developed more advanced keyboard matrices, allowing polyphony to be introduced to the electronic music scene. One ... • 44. Passer To Play Volleyball A new sport was invented by William Morgan in 1895. Morgan was an instructor at a YMCA and blended elements of basketball, baseball, tennis, and handball to create this new sport. (Evdokimoff 2011) Since the ball was volleyed over a net, it soon became known as volleyball. According to Evdokimoff, the first official game was played at Massachusetts College in 1896. Volleyball is considered an easy sport to those who have never played; however, it involves many skills, much determination, and constant communication. On the offensive end, passing is the first thing that must be done. In order for the setter to set the ball, the passer must make a good pass. The passer has to judge whether or not the serve or the hit is in or out. Next, a passer will move his or her body behind the ball. While staying low, the passer then turns his or her shoulders towards the target, the setter. It ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The hitter s first job is to try to block the opposing team s attack. Then the hitter must get off the net and be ready for the set. If the ball does not come, the hitter must cover the person who is hitting. In an attacking situation, the hitter must jump, make contact with the ball at its highest peak, and snap the wrist. In volleyball, all players have a specific job, but must rely on each other to get individual jobs done. Communication is the biggest key to a good volleyball team. First, a passer must call the ball if able to make the pass. If players do not talk and claim the ball, it may hit the floor. Also, the setter has to tell his or her teammates if he or she can get to the second hit. Finally, everyone who is not hitting should talk to the hitter. It is imperative to share where to place the hit, if tipping is a better option, and how many blockers there are. Miscommunication could cost the team a point or even the game. • 47. Essay Comparing Beowulf and The Saga of King Hrolf Kraki Beowulf and The Saga of King Hrolf Kraki There are so many similarities between the hero of the poem Beowulf and The Saga of King Hrolf Kraki, an Iceland saga representing 1000 years of oral traditions prior to the 1300 s when it was written, that these similarities cannot be attributed solely to coincidence. The Cambridge History of English and American Literature states that the hero of the poem, Beowulf himself, may be the same person as Bodvar Biarki, the chief of Hrolfr Kraki s knights (v1, ch3, s3, n13). George Clark in The Hero and the Theme mentions: The form of Beowulf taken as a whole suggests both the Bear s Son folktale type (especially as we find it in Scandinavia) and the combat myth . . . .
