Dual Branding
1. What are the conceptual underpinnings of a dual brand strategy? A dual brand strategy is the
association of two or more already well recognized trademarks in a synergistic retail setting
designed to benefit each, is one of the fastest growing areas in franchising. Numerous systems are
learning that they re significantly more effective in presenting their products and services to the
public when they do so in association with another brand. A company may use dual branding when
they want to increase the market share, saturating the market by filling all price and quality gaps
and catering to brand switchers users who like to experiment with different brands, a dual brand
strategy also may be applied when two companies want to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Essay on Mezzanine Finance Explained
Mezzanine Finance by Corry Silbernagel Davis Vaitkunas Bond Capital With a supplement by Ian
Giddy
Mezzanine Debt Another Level To Consider
Mezzanine debt is used by companies that are cash flow positive to fund: further growth through
expansion projects; acquisitions; recapitalizations; and, management and leveraged buyouts. When
mezzanine debt is used in conjunction with senior debt it reduces the amount of equity required in
the business. As equity is the most expensive form of capital, it is most cost effective to create a
capital structure that secures the most funding, offers the lowest cost of capital, and maximizes
return on equity. Mezzanine debt has been around for over 30 years, however its use in Western
Canada and the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although it makes up a portion of a company s total available capital, mezzanine financing is
critical to growing companies and in succession planning in recent years. The gap in funding
between senior debt and equity is common for the following reasons: 1) accounts receivable,
inventories and fixed assets are being discounted at greater rates than in the past for fear that their
values will not be realized in the future; 2) many balance sheets now contain significant intangible
assets, and, 3) as a result of defaults and regulatory pressure, banks have placed ceilings on the
amount of total debt a company can obtain. While additional liquidity can be obtained from equity
investors, equity is the most expensive source of capital. Further, equity capital, by its nature,
dilutes existing shareholders. As a result, mezzanine debt can be an attractive alternative way to
obtain much needed capital.
Capital Structures
While there are no hard and fast rules for optimizing a company s capital structure, companies that
are ahead of the curve use an efficient combination of senior debt, mezzanine debt, and equity
capital to minimize their true cost of capital.

My Yoga Journey
This is not a book about how to practise yoga postures but rather an approach as to how to include
a search for consciousness in every aspect of yoga. Our yoga journey is the tool for understanding.
My yoga journey started more than ten years ago with an intense and dedicated interest in learning
yoga postures from Ashtanga, Hatha, Jivamukti, etc. In the beginning I practised most days of
the week and imagined that I would never tire, in spite of long trips to the studio in the early
hours of the morning. A pleasant reward was that my blood pressure dropped back to normal
and I could stop taking medicines. So, from the start, I knew that yoga could provide health
benefits as well as an enormous feeling of wellbeing. No matter how tired and fed up one felt at
the beginning of a session, the mental lift afterwards was deeply satisfying. Meditation, Savasana,
or corpse posture, wound up every session so it also became clear that postures or asanas were
only part of the remedy. Meditation and yoga practise from the very beginning fired my interest in
searching for an inner consciousness. This is an easily misunderstood word and means many
different things to many different people. Some will associate it with awareness, or mindfulness ...

(a)Aims
There are three aims of this project first of all to measure dose rate of thallium injection during
stress test and Thallium (Tl) and Technetium (Tc99m) dose rate at various locations during patient
scan using the Smart Ion detector. Secondly to measure dose rate of Tc99m received during
drawing up and checking of the doses using personal electronic diode based dose meter. Finally to
measure the dose rate received by the staff when they give Tc99m injection to the patients using
personal diode based dose meter.

Active Voice
Voice:
In simple words, Voice (in other words (but rarely said) is also called, diathesis) is a term that
describes the relation between an action (verb) taken by the subject, the subject (the one who
performs the action) and the object (the thing being acted upon).
Active Voice:
Active voice is most commonly used verb. Active voice is where; the subject is the one who
performs an action (verb), while object is the thing being acted upon.
When the subject performs an action, the verb is in Active voice.
For example:
The mouse ate the cheese.
Here, the mouse is the subject, ate is the action (verb) and cheese is the object. Since the subject is
doing an action, we say that the verb is in active voice.

He dropped the book in the lake.

Rita writes a letter.
Here, Rita is the subject, writes is the active verb and letter is the object.
Sarah has written a book on her family.
Here, Sarah is the subject, written is the active verb and book is the object.
Uses of the Active Voice:
Active sentences are more direct (This proves that the subject admits that he was the one who did
the act) and engaging for the reader. The sentences are shorter and allow you to express an
authoritative tone. And they are also often less confusing and ambiguous.
Passive Voice:
Passive voice is where; the object is suspected to have done an action (verb) and the subject is the
thing being performed on.
When the subject is the target for an action, then the verb is in Passive voice.
For example:
The cheese was eaten by the mouse.
Here, the cheese is the subject, eaten is the passive verb and mouse is the object. Since the subject
is the one being suspected for the action, we say that the verb is in the passive voice.

Inhibitory or Excitatory Potential Changes Essay example
Inhibitory or Excitatory Potential Changes
MDMA affects the brain by increasing the activity of at least three neurotransmitters (the chemical
messengers of brain cells): serotonin, dopamine, and nor epinephrine (The Brain s
Response to Hallucinogens). This increase in activity can be either excitatory or inhibitory in nature
depending on the neurotransmitter involved and which part of the reaction to the drug is taking place
. Every area of the brain containing serotonin, dopamine, and/or norepinephrine is affected by
MDMA, but the serotonergic and dopaminergic pathways are principally affected. This includes the
neocortex and much of the limbic system. Within the limbic system, the hypothalamus, basal
ganglia, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Once in the synapse, MDMA binds to receptors on the postsynaptic neuron and causes a decrease in
its firing rate. The presence of so much serotonin as well as MDMA activates many receptors on the
postsynaptic neuron.
There are approximately 15 different serotonin receptors, and the quantity of each type differs from
person to person
(Kalat 68). Because MDMA has an affinity for particular receptors and the quantity of those
receptors can be so varied, the effects of MDMA are varied as well. This is why accounts from
MDMA users change from person to person and from one use to the next. Whatever the quantity of
receptors, MDMA binds to those it has an affinity for and causes the receptors to produce
EPSP s. If enough EPSP s are sent to the cell body from the receptors then an electrical impulse will
stimulate the release of more neurotransmitters into the synapse. It is the action at the serotonin
synapses that are responsible for the hallucinogenic effects of MDMA. ...Ecstasy causes a sustained
increase in the amount of serotonin in the synaptic space, leading to sustained activation of more
serotonin receptors.
This can produce an elevated mood (euphoria) (Hallucinogens).
MDMA is a mixed agonist/ antagonist for serotonin. It mimics the characteristics of a monoamine
in being nonacidic (no charge) in order to cross the blood brain

Shrek the Third and Princess Fiona
. Explain the looking glass theory and self concept as they pertain to Shrek, Donkey, Princess Fiona,
and Prince Farquar. Your answer needs to address the components of self. In your answer, include
how self concept affects the way that they communicate. Remember that communication includes
cognitive, listening and speaking processes.
According to the looking glass theory, we use others as a mirror to see ourselves and we imagine
what others think of us then include these imaginings in our self concept. In the movie Shrek , the
main character and the hero of the story, Shrek, was always concerned about how he looks and
what people think about his face and outfit. That is why he was shocked when he thought that the
princess was talking ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Events that are reframed which causes devaluation of self worth, that changes a person s
perspective. Shrek reflects reframing in the movie several times. In one scene in a conversation
with Donkey, Shrek describes how people runaway from him when they see him which results in
isolating himself. Another scene, when he thought Princess Fiona did hat him because he was
ugly. He was sad to think that everyone used to justify him with his ugly face but none could
feel his heart. Shrek was always trying to hide himself away from the society and he was sick
and tired of the social life because society was unable to judge him in the right way. As a result
form the beginning the did not wanted any friends and lived all alone at the jungle away from the
society.
4. Explain need for affection from Donkey and Shrek s perspectives. The need for affection is
the fact that we all need to receive and give love, support, warmth, and intimacy. In the
perspective of the Donkey, it can be seen when he wanted to be the friend of Shrek and in
another scene the Donkey was cooping with the Dragon as a result of his loneliness and need for
affection. In Shrek s perspective, his need for affection was oftten suppressed, but at the end his
need for affection drives him to tell princess Feona how he feels about her.

Acquainted With The Night Analysis Essay
Robert Frost s poem Acquainted with the Night delves into the spatial and personal point of
views of the speaker s depressed mindset to depict exactly how deep the speaker has fallen into a
dark place, physically and mentally. The first stanza immediately establishes the speaker and uses
a unique choice of words to describe the scene. I is used to begin each line in the first stanza, which
ultimately leads the reader to believe that I is the speaker. I also is the first sign of isolation
suggested by Frost. Specifically, the very first line of the poem suggests personal point of view
from the speaker. The usage of one and acquainted are unique in this poem due to the fact that one
can suggest that this night may not have been the first... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Before Frost gets to the watchman, he gives emotion to an an emotionless thing known as the street.
It isn t just sad, but it is the saddest, which only shows that the furthest and saddest things are the
worst that the speaker has ever been around. The intensity here is building and the reader hopes
that maybe passing the watchman will fill the void of loneliness. Notice that the watchman on his
beat is the first and only human interaction that the speaker has the entire poem. A tight shot is
used to show the lack of reaction from the speaker passing the watchman. The scene is set in a
city, so naturally the reader would infer that the streets would not be filled with people at night,
but would have more than just a watchman on the job walking around. Here it is emphasized that
the speaker cannot even look in the direction of the only person on the street. What the reader does
not know is what exactly the speaker is unwilling to explain to the watchman. Ultimately, physical
emptiness of the city lane except for a single person walking around deepens the depression and
anxiety that the speaker is

Essay On Revitalization And Infra-Structural Labor
Rendering Vacancy Technical: Revitalization and Infra Structural Labor in Chicago
I.Introduction
The City of Chicago is using innovative programs to turn vacant land and buildings, cast as detritus,
into a resource for spurring community centered development in disinvested neighborhoods.
Focusing on the diverse forms of labor behind Chicago s vacancy initiatives, the proposed research
will examine how these initiatives are reworking the political economic forces that produce
landscapes of (dis)accumulation (Gilmore 2002:15) and recasting historical entanglements of waste,
race and space. This study comes at a critical juncture in U.S. urbanization. Mass foreclosures in the
wake of the housing crisis exacerbated the vacancy, population ... Show more content on

Bridging these literatures enables two theoretical contributions. The first builds on urban political
economy s insight into capital s role in organizing urban landscapes. Scholars in this tradition
demonstrate the destruction brought on by capital s ceaseless pursuit of profit; the political and
discursive technologies that create new frontiers of accumulation in the detritus of this creative
destruction (Harvey 2003); and the dispossession that ensues when devalorized spaces re enter
capital s radar. Crucial to capital s circulation are purification campaigns (Merrifield 2002) that
render devalorized spaces attractive to new investment. My research focuses on the labor of
purification. By using discard studies insights to study redevelopment politics, I conceptualize the
work of purification as infra structural labor (Gidwani 2015) that clears land of disinvestment s
residues to accommodate future accumulation. This offers a new way of theorizing the production
of urban space by revealing that pivotal in organizing post recession landscapes are not only the
profit seeking actions of finance and real estate capital but also the quotidian labor of revalorization.
Given the confluence of austerity with vacancy, depopulation, and plummeting property values
across the Rust Belt, attention to this labor is timely and illuminates a key site for theoretical and
policy

Cultural Turmoil in Francis Ford Coppola s Apocalypse Now
The era of the 1960 s was one of change, just like so many of the enduring songs say. With words
like revolution and freedom being used to promote movements that changed our society forever.
The most important being the Civil Rights movement, and arguably the most influential: the sexual
revolution. While great new ideas and beliefs were starting to take root, morals and social
constructs that had been established were endangered of being lost in the mix. The moral code that
had endured for so long was suddenly overlooked, or overpowered by a generation that was not
interesting in listening to the older, conventional generations. The pressure to find new ways of

(Brantlinger, 262). The soldiers in the movie may have been an exaggeration of true life, but
Coppola s interpretation reflects one who personally experienced the cultural reaction. The images
on television, the political demonstrations, the movements, even the arrival of psychedelic drugs,
all escalated the nation in a way that was unprecedented. Coppola brought that heightened sense of
awareness to the cinematic experience.
The film starts with a song The End by the Doors. The lyrics of the song, written by the infamous
Jim Morrison, describe a story like Oedipus: I ll never look into your eyes...again , Father, yes
son, I want to kill you . Some have speculated this to be parallel to the plot, and also correlates
back to Heart of Darkness. Also as in Heart of Darkness, Coppola s frame creates an appropriate
bridge between the bizarre tale about to unfold and the wider context of modern cultural
experience. (Greiff). It is a significant symbol of the time. Jim Morrison was well known as a
drug user, poet, and an all around menace to a lawful society. His rebellious persona was not
uncommon for his time, he was a voice for a generation that believed the time to hesitate is
through. The song plays with scenes of a burning jungle: Coppola s uncomfortable tone is set.
Willard is first introduced in a hotel room where he is losing his mind. He doesn t speak

The second control plate was also observed to have furry and pigmented red growth in all the
quadrants, despite being exposed to UV light due to the plate lid during exposure. The

The quadrant exposed to 20 sec of UV light showed significantly less growth than the 10 sec
quadrant and the colonies are pinpointed with several beige colonies in between the red
speckles. Original swipe pattern of the bacteria was not observed in this colony. In the quadrant
exposed to 30 seconds of UV light, the differences are even more significant as the colonies are
few and far in between and only several pinpoint red colonies found with a few beige colonies
and some colonies with red centers surrounded by beige. The effects of UV light are very drastic

The Importance Of Food Security In The Philippines
About 7 million Filipinos in 2015 have resorted to open defecation 85% of which are from rural
areas without toilet facilities. This poses a threat to the safety of food and quality of drinking
water (WHO, 2016). Although there is a valuable abundance of life and resources, the Philippines
is paradoxically afflicted with various complications and barriers to fully access and sustainably use
the natural resources available. The lives of Filipinos are thus categorized by an adversity that is
persistent throughout the world even with recent progressive developments. Despite being one of
the fastest growing economies in Southeast Asia in recent years, declines in poverty were modest,
leaving marginalized groups such as women, children and the elderly vulnerable to hunger and
poverty. This rapid economic growth, however, does not necessarily translate to better conditions
when combined with other factors such as nutrition and food security (WFP, 2016). The country is
managing to the best of its abilities to concentrate on the underlying issues threatening food
security. Of those issues, the most encompassing is the lack of access to clean water and proper
sanitation, which debilitates a populations ability to survive, actively work, and produce food. In
attempt to address this issue, strict government enforcement of standards, non governmental
intervention with affordable technology or means of sanitation, and education is necessary for
improving the lives Filipinos.

Of Oskar s Actions In Extremely Loud And Incredibly Close
Were Oskar s actions throughout the Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close due to a mental
disorder? In the novel Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close by Jonathan Safran Foer, the
protagonist, Oskar Schell, is going through many problems in his life, Oskar has to deal with the
death of his father, Thomas Schell Jr due to the terrorist attack, 9/11, that took place on the
World Trade Center. He also has to deal with people like his mother who doesn t play a big part
of the story, being mature and trying to move on like not showing her grief to Oskar and trying
to find another husband like Ron. Throughout the story, Oskar shows signs of a mental disorder
called Post traumatic Stress Disorder or PTSD. PTSD is a mental disorder that people suffer
when they experience a traumatic life event. Oskar s traumatic effect in this case is his dad dying.
Oskar then goes through a journey throughout the book both a physical journey and a mental
journey to find answers or ways to get to know more about his father and how he died in those
towers. In ELIC Oskar is taking this journey throughout trying to find answers about his dad, but
during the whole journey he leaves clues that might conclude that he is suffering from PTSD which
might be why he acts melancholic and griefs a lot. Oskar Schell meets different characters during
his journey which helps him get more data and information about his dad and consequently,he gets

The Comparison Of Godot, By James Beckett
There is a vast literature on interpretations of Godot, encompassing Christian and anti Christian
religion, Freudian and Jungian psychology, and a kitchen sinkful of esoteric and obscure isms. The
undeniable fact is that no one really knows what Godot is about, and the playwright himself clearly
believed that the core of his art lay in the ambiguities resulting from the absence of information,
saying that everything he knew about the characters was in the text and if he knew anything more
about the characters then he would have put it in the text. That Godot is more hole than doughnut
has made it an easy target of parody if not outright ridicule. Beckett evolved his unique literary
voice by distinguishing his style from that of his mentor James Joyce, whom he assisted during the
writing of Finnegans Wake. In almost exactly the opposite way, Joyce grounded his art in
fanatically perfectionist control of his work, leaving no missing pieces or rough edges in stuffing
his characters full to overflowing so that we the readers know more about them than they could
possibly know about themselves.
By far the best biography of Beckett, in my opinion, is by James Knowlson of the University of
Reading, whose 20 year friendship with the playwright led to the donation of notebooks,
manuscripts and other archival material that became the world s leading Beckett archive. Knowlson
s title taken from a passage in Beckett s notebooks is Damned to Fame, neatly encapsulating the

Summary Of Green Eggs And Ham
Throughout his political career, Ted Cruz has had his ups and downs. I believe that because he
is labeled as very conservative and religious, the very slightest stray away from these values
results in public uproar. In 2013, Cruz read Green Eggs and Ham during the 21 hour filibuster
on the Senate Floor. It s ironic that he chose this story to read as a method to debase the
Affordable Care Act. The story Green Eggs and Ham follows a character that is certain that he
doesn t like green eggs and ham. Nevertheless, this character has never tried it. At the end of the
story, the character discovers that he actually like green eggs and ham. The moral of the story is
that it s important to try new things and be open to new ideas and suggestions.

Tylor s Conception Of Religion
In our society, religion is commonly held as a matter of belief. The religious believe, atheists do not
believe and agnostics are unsure what they believe. Is this way of conceptualises religion consistent
across religions, through cultures? And through time and space? Anthropologists have disagreed
about how to conceptualise religionsince the founding of the discipline. Early accounts of religion
tend to centre on belief as being the most fundamental activity and characteristic of religion.
Twentieth century anthropologists, most notably Clifford Geertz, distanced themselves from the
evolutionist tendencies of earlier writers but continued to hold belief up as central to understanding
religion. However, many anthropologists have argued that... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

He argues that diverse pssibilbeies and power dyanamics that are placed under the label of
religion must be explained as products of historically distinctive disciplines and forces, not as
the result of superimposed systems of belief, ritual, political power and other elements . Like
Ruel before him, Assad argues that the bias towards belief as a verbalizable inner condition for
true religion comes from the Christian Church. Assad argues that what Geertz and other call the
religion , in a universal sense, is closely connected to Modernity in Europe and the subsequent
spread of this modernity to other parts of the world. Geertz s notion of religious belief, which is
central to his account of religion, is a modern privatised Christian one because it prioritises belief
as a physiological process rather than as something embodied in practice. His analysis marks a
shift away from a symbolic approach to a poststructuralist one which is less concerned with
interpreting symbols and more focused on power and discipline and the way in which religious

Research Paper On Tumbl
I started using a Tumblr for my Social Media class. When I first started using Tumblr, I could tell
that it was a much different platform than Facebook. The things I would post would just not go
over well with my family and friends who would just believe what they would see on television. I
ve had bad experiences on Facebook for posting just about everything, but that was a while back.
They took quite an offense to some of the things I would postabout that are going on in not only
America but on a global level. Let s begin with my experiences and expectations with Tumblr first.
Since opening up my Tumblr account, I decided to be more enigmatic and in the dark. I would
post some simple blogs each week on the Comm2311 blog, but no one really replied to them even
after I commented and clicked like on their blogs. I really didn t have any expectations, and I
was still enjoying being part of a new social network. When on a new type of social media, the
first thing I like to do is test the waters in a sense. I like to see how people use it and how
everyone is reacting before I start posting lots of information. After some consideration, I wondered
what would happen if I breached social media etiquette and started sharing random YouTubevideos
and off topic posts on our Comm2311 blog.
The first time I broke social media etiquette on Tumblr was when I posted a random YouTube
video and captioned it Feminism is a Prison without any context on my class Comm2311 blog. I

What Is North American History Prior The 16th Century
History is often a speculation of reality, but architecture and ruins from the past are a great tool in
uncovering archaic cultures and lifestyles. North American history prior the 16th century is limited
and often misconceived. Contrary to popular belief, North America was inhabited eons prior to the
arrival of Europeans by individuals who aptly used the landscape surrounding them and maximized
the benefits they reaped. During this time they were able to achieve great advances in not only in
their food but also in their infrastructure. Leading up to the sixteenth century, North America was
not a barren landscape unfamiliar to the human touch, but, in fact, the land of well developed
societies exemplified through their extensive feats infrastructure.

St. Paul s Missions Essay
Introduction/Thesis The Apostle Paul (formerly Saul) is responsible for the spread of
Christianity throughout the areas of Asia Minor and Greece. Through his 3 mission trips to the
region Paul created a base of support for the Christian faith and implemented a support strategy
for future growth. The time period for his journeys was 45 AD 58 AD. The story of Paul is
interesting from the perspective that the man best known as the author of most of the New
Testament started out as a devout Jew and despised the Christian faith. After his conversion he
made it his life s work to spread the Christian message throughout the world. To this end, Paul
made several mission trips to the area of Asia Minor and Greece. Background The Apostle Paul...

As Paul reflects on his escape he starts to understand the need for reliance on another power (as
in God) After this Paul goes to Jerusalem, meets Barnabas, and is introduced to the Apostles. Paul
stays here for 15 days; during that time he preaches the gospel to the people of Jerusalem. For
the second time, Paul is driven out of a city in fear of his life. According to Acts 22:17; Paul was
in the temple and fell into a trance. God warned him to leave the city. Paul escaped to Caesarea,
on to Cilicia Syria, then to his hometown of Tarsus. Paul s plan for evangelism led him to what
was considered the civilized world of the Roman Empire, leaving to others the centers of Judaism
Palestine, Alexandria, and Babylon. Paul s movement westward was from Antioch to Cilicia,
Galatia and Pamphylia, Asia Minor, Macedonia and Greece, Italy, and Spain. Paul s strategic
plan was to stretch churches and the gospel from Antioch throughout the entire region. Paul s
strategy was to take his teachings to the metropolis areas instead of the smaller cities and towns.
His thought was that his influence in these large areas would bring others that could carry on his
teachings into these regions. As past history shows, Paul s timeframe for teaching is limited due
to being driven out of the cities by force before his work was completed. There were 2 cities
where he was able to spend considerable time, Corinth and Ephesus. These cities were of utmost

Life Under The Meiji Constitution
When SCAP drafted our constitution, I could not wait any seconds to read it. The constitution
you created was so different from our former Meiji Constitution . Life under the Meiji
Constitution was very brutal and hard, especially for a woman like me. We were not allowed to

A Perfect Health Care System
I feel as if we will never have a perfect health care system in place. No matter what we try,
something will always need tweaked. We need to find a way that makes health care more
affordable for everyone. With Obama care we had an option for everyone to get health
insurance. Now what the government is trying to pass through will cause million of people to
lose their health care. Also, Medicaid is going to be reduced by millions. So many poor,
disabled, and old people will lose their insurance making it hard for them to get the help they need.
Politicians make us think there is just a simple fix to our health care system, but it s much more
complex then that. I don t believe there is just one simple fix to our health care. It will take time

My Life As A Writer. From Childhood I Did Not Love Writing
My Life as a Writer
From childhood I did not love writing and did not put much effort into developing my writing

I think the reason why I didn t like writing is because I used to like just absorbing information

who flourished in me love to books and reading. My mom is a doctor and she loves to read. She

for his theory on Multiple Intelligences. Gardner s parents fled Germany to escape World War II,
and came to the United States of America. His parents will survive had an impact on Gardner
from young age, but the biggest effect of his parent s predicament led him to what would be his
interest in psychology. Gardner was going to be sent to Phillips Academy, however, he refused
to go and attended a preparatory school in Kingston, Pennsylvania. After Kingston he went to
study at Harvard University for a career in law. While at Harvard University he blossomed under
his mentor Erik Erikson which led to his interest in psychology. His interest in psychology led
him to develop his theory on Multiple Intelligences. This theory has led to him winning awards
such as MacArthur Prize Fellowship, William James Award, American Psychological Association,
and Prince of Asturias Award in Social Sciences. Howard Gardner s theory on Multiple
Intelligences explains that there is no single intelligence, but there are many intelligences which
can improve the quality of education efforts(pg1). Multiple Intelligences are different forms of
intelligences which aid our problem solving skills. These intelligences also describe a person s
personality so his or her strengths can be used to help teach the individual. Multiple Intelligences

Texas bureaucracy Essay
The state bureaucracy administers/implements the laws of Texas. It is run by executives whose job
is to see that the laws of the state are implemented according to the will and intent of the
Legislature. Ideally, these executive branch officials or bureaucrats are to administer their duties
and implement the laws in a neutral manner, uninfluenced by politics. In reality, state bureaucrats
are important players in not just implementation, but also policymaking. In Texas, there is no
overall central governing or controlling authority. Governmentauthority in Texas is very
decentralized, and rests within many independent state agencies.

The first solution that seems to fix a problem is often the solution picked. When bureaucrats pick
the first expedient it is called a satisfice. Kerwin notes that along the way rules and regulations may
slow the process and possibly prevent organizations from making decisions.
The executive branch consists of the Governor, Lieutenant Governor, Comptroller of Public
Accounts, Land Commissioner, Attorney General, Agriculture Commissioner, the three member
Texas Railroad Commission, the State Board of Education, and the Secretary of State. Texas has a
plural executive branch system, which limits the power of the Governor. Except for the Secretary
of State, all executive officers are elected independently, making them directly answerable to the
public but not the Governor. The executive branch also includes several boards and commissions
that are made up of a mixture of elections and gubernatorial appointments confirmed by the Senate.
In addition, there are many independent boards, commissions, and agencies that operate
independently of the governor. Power is decentralized among many officials. Although the governor
appoints over 3,000 individuals to 285 plus state boards and commissions, he has very limited
removal authority and thus, has little control over the executive branch. Even with the Governor
appointing several members of boards and commissions, the overall effect is a large network of

How Rap Music effects children. by Aren Darneal. Mrs.Glover s english 3. The urban youth of

Rap music over the years has embraced black talent and lead many people who lived troubled
lives into a life of fame and glory. The problem is as rap music has evolved, the lyrical content
has been highly focused around depicting negative images of the urban black community. It has
turned from being positive to now just describing the life of drugs and riches. Songs range from
depicting women as prostitutes, selling drugs such as cocaine and heroine, using drugs to get
by in life, and spending excessive amounts of money on expensive cars and jewelry. Washington
Informer writer, Rudy Gourdine, brings up a good point when she states, Can we overlook the
targeting of young Black women with mean spirited and derogatory words and images that
often prevent them from forming successful relationships(Gourdine) ? She speaks of how in
urban areas it is often overlooked or ignored how degrading the lyrics are and what they are
doing. There are many good points as to what rap music could be causing in urban areas but
there is no solid proof that rap music causes all to think or act on the music. On the contrary,
there are many people that are against censorship and believe that we have the freedom of speech
for a reason. Rappers are after all speaking about their life and their hardships they have went
through. This negativity in current rap music could also teach kids a lesson of how to not live or

Homelessness Is A Basic Need And All Human Beings Essay
Shelter is a basic need and all human beings are entitled to it. Though some may have shelter, they
not find a home. Homelessness has become rampant throughout the US population. Each day more
and more people are reported not to have this basic need, sleeping in the streets and wandering all
day long. This has become a major area of concern for the government, social services providers and
social policy makers. The government through the US Department of Housing and Urban
Development has put in enormous efforts to combat the annual rise in homelessnessbut the situation
has not significantly been curbed. Last year, for instance, there were 92, 593 homeless people
who were reported to be chronically homeless. Although this is a 16 percent drop from 2010
statistics, the current figure is enormous enough to give sleepless nights to policy makers and the
federal government. (US Department of Housing and Urban Development). This brings to question
what the real odds bedeviling access to proper shelter are. While there is interplay of numerous
factors, key among them is the rise in povertylevels. As the poverty index rises, so does the inability
to afford basic shelter units.
Many of the US state governments (majorly New York) have placed rent controls so as to make
housing affordable to its citizens. Landlords rent their housing units to tenants at government
controlled prices. This is done by the introduction on price ceilings and price floors. Tenants are
therefore enabled

Lab 4: blood consists of two major components: plasma, which is 90% water and nonliving fluid
matrix, and formed elements, which are living cells suspended in the plasma. Erythrocytes,
Leukocytes, and platelets are the three types of the formed elements. Erythrocytes, or red blood
cells, contains hemoglobin molecules and plays an important role in oxygen (and small amount of
carbon dioxide) transportation. Leukocytes, or white blood cells, helps defending the body and are
part of the immune system; there are five types of Leukocytes: neutrophils, eosinophils, basophils,
lymphocytes, and monocytes. Each type has a unique function in defending the body against any
pathogens. Neutrophils are the most abundant, monocytes are the largest, lymphocytes are the
smallest, and basophils are the least abundant leukocytes. Platelets play an important role in blood

Nontraditional Family In The Bean Trees
Everyone has a family of some kind. It may be the parents and siblings they were born with, or it
could be the gang of six biologically unrelated elite drivers with an affinity for robbing banks at
high speeds from Fast and the Furious. Ultimately, family is what people make of it, and it can be
the traditional two parents, one brother, one sister, and a dog named Spot, or it could be a woman
and the kid she was left with. The term traditional familyrefers to the socially expected behaviors of
each given role (for example, a mothertaking her kid to the doctor,) in the family. Members of a
traditional family in this case are either maritally or biologically related. Barbara Kingsolver s The
Bean Treeshas many characters who would consider themselves, or be considered, part of different
families. The Bean Trees addresses and deals with the fact that nontraditional families can be just as
strong as what society has defined as a traditional family.
The characters Taylor and Turtle are an example of a nontraditional family that is just as strong
as a traditional one. They meet the bare minimum requirements for a healthy mother daughter
relationship. Taylor takes Turtle to Doctor Pelinowski s in order to check out the damage of
Turtle s prior injuries. With this action, Taylor proves how she takes time out of her day to ensure
Turtle s well being, just as a traditional mother does. This care is necessary for every kind of family
to be strong. Next, Taylor worries about

Target Holdings Ltd V Redferns
INTRODUCTION
After Lord Browne Wilkinson s judgment in Target Holdings Ltd v Redferns, the principles of

that it would be a backward step [...] to depart from Lord Browne Wilkinson s fundamental
analysis that His Lordship s judgment was clarified, and the principles of equitable unriddled. One

Lord Toulson started his impressive judgment in AIB by declaring the stitching together of equity
and the common law continues to cause problems at the seams. Whereas Lord Browne Wilkinson
followed McLachlin J s non fusionist approach in Canson, Lord Toulson preferred a fusionist
approach in AIB, contending, the extent of equitable compensation should be the same as if
damages for breach of contract were sought at common law.
Scholars pointed out that fusing equitable and legal remedies is somewhat undefined because
there is no clear set of legal remedies remedies. Therefore, what is meant by fusion is that the same
remedies should apply when equity and common law wrongs are effectively the same. Lord
Neuberger contends that simplicity and clarity of the judicial system is his mission statement for
the UK Supreme Court, whereas Lord Millet disagrees with fusion. Although there are two
opposing views among scholars and the judiciary, AIB interprets Target to support fusion of

Structure and Development of Curriculum Essay
Structure and Development of Curriculum. Australia s future depends upon each citizen having the
necessary knowledge, understanding, skills and values for a productive and rewarding life in an
educated, just and open society (Brady amp; Kennedy 2007) these skills, values and knowledge are

Government ensures that all schools develop students in the appropriate manner by deriving a

source of these objectives includes what students need to know, what society believes should be

Cardiac Muscles
The human body consist of 680 skeletal muscles. The name of a muscle can distinguish its
location, action, shape, and function. One such example is the biceps brachii, which is commonly
referred to as biceps. As the name implies, this is a two headed muscle. The term biceps brachii is
a Latin phrase that means, two headed muscleof the arm. This is references to the fact that the
muscle consists of two bundles of muscles. Each of these bundles has its own origin and share a
common insertion point near the elbow joint. The biceps brachii muscle is the one that gave all
muscles their name because it comes from the Latin, musculus, meaning, little mouse. . This

The name of the muscle comes from Latin, meaning, Three headed arm muscle. This muscle is
sometimes called the three headed muscle because there are three bundles of muscles and each has
a different origin and join together at the elbow. The triceps is an extensor muscle of the elbow and
its function is to fixate the elbow joint when the forearm and hand are used for fine movements,
such as writing. The triceps can function through either isolation or by compound extension
movements.
The quadriceps femoris, most commonly referred to as quadriceps, comes from Latin, which
means, four headed muscle of the femur. These are large muscle groups that include the four
prevailing muscles on the front of the thigh. Quadriceps are also divided into four portions, or
heads, hence from the Latin origins. The quadriceps are powerful extensors of the knee joint. These
muscles are crucial for walking, running, jumping, and squatting.
The skeletal muscles are one of three major muscles types. As the name implies, these muscles are
attached to bones by bundles o collagen fibers that are known as tendons. Skeletal muscles are
made up of individual components that are known as muscle cells. These muscles have the
appearance of long cylinders. The basic function is responsible for skeletal muscles to

Plutarch s Life Of The Heroes
Plutarch was a son of the philosopher named Aristobulus. He was born in 46 AD in Chaeronea,
Boeotia; and he died in 120 AD. Plutarch was also known as a historian, essayist and biographer
who had left a huge literary heritage for humanity. By traveling abroad to other countries such as
Egypt, Greece..., Plutarchassembled lots of information about the heroes of the Roman and
Greece mythology. After that, he used that information to write about lives of heroes. He
gathered all fascinating biographies in his massive books: Plutarch Greek Lives , Plutarch
Roman Lives and The Parallel Lives of Plutarch . Those books bring a reputation to Plutarch and
he became a famous biographer at that time. In his books, he wrote the lives of the heroes in
order of time to show his respects to those people of both countries. The short biographies in his
books are about childhood, achievements and deaths of the heroes. Besides that, he also added
some interesting stories and lessons in those biographies to educate his readers. His books were
translated into many different languages and they have great influences to modern historians and
modern biographers. After reading the book Greek Lives of Plutarch, I was impressed by the
biographyabout Lycurgus. Lycurgus was written as the father of Sparta. He was legislator who wrote
many constitutions to build up and maintain the strength and power of Sparta during 500 years.

People Have On Kids Using Electronics
There are many different thoughts that people have on kids using electronics. People either don t
mind their kids using things like phones or tablets, but there is also a very large amount of
people that disagree and limit the use of electronics for their kids. There are many different
reasons why people feel the way they do. Both sides make very valid points to support their side,
but I see nothing wrong with kids using electronicsin their lives. There are going to be many
different times when kids are going to needto use electronic devises in their life, so they should
learn the different skills while they are young.
There are many different views on this topic and one of the biggest reasons why parents don t want
their kids using electronics is because they want their kids to be playing and be active. Whether
kids are playing inside building forts or outside playing hide and go seek, parents want to see
their kids running around and having fun. They want to see their kids be creative and come up
with different things they can do to keep themselves occupied just like they did when they were
kids! Children six to eleven years old obesity rates in 1980 were seven percent and have risen to
eighteen percent in 2012 (cdc.gov). That is a huge increase in obesity and the numbers are only
getting bigger and bigger every year. One way to help lower the obesity rate would be by making
sure kids are doing activities that involve physical activity. Kids should be playing outside

How Does Luis Valdez Present Social Injustice In Zoot Suit
Zoot Suit is a play, written by Luis Valdez, based on the Sleepy Lagoon murders and the Zoot
Suit riots of the nineteen forties. In this play, Valdez embodies Chicano culture and social
injustice. Upon reading the play, it is very apparent that the main source of injustice is
institutional racism and it is shown in the court scenes of this play. It starts with the Opening of
the Trial (Act I,Scene 9) and in this it proves that the court itself has already set up Henry and the
gang for failure. They failed to show any human decency in which they did not allow the boys to
wear clean clothes or even fix their hair. The appearance of pachucoculture is based of off their

Its starts with the press. The press was an important symbol of racism in which they would
report and paint their own image of pachucos in order to criminalize them to the public. In this
case, Valdez cleverly uses the press character as the prosecutor as well. In this scene, the press is
setting up Della to self incriminating questions by connecting the boys to weapons that were
never found at the crime scene and trying to coerce her answers into sounding like confessions.
Of course the judge was no help because he was against the pachucos from the start, in fact in
this scene it reveals that even their lawyer knew that they were going to lose. In the end, it was
the prosecution s concluding statement that defined this as a racist trial. The prosecutor says it
himself, the specific details of this murder are irrelevant before the overwhelming danger of the
pachuco in our midst (62). On a trial about murder it is very odd to hear that the specific details
are irrelevant and it proves that this trial is more than what it is. They are not on trial for what
they could have done, they are on trial for what they might do because in their perspectives;
rapists, drug abusers, or violent gang members is all a Mexican can

How Is Love Presented In Plato s Symposium
The view of love presented in Plato s Symposium is not a very positive one to a modern reader;
although some of its eulogies can appeal to various emotions or make sense logically, they fail to
present love in a way that is both humane and sends a positive message. While Aristophanes eulogy
depicts humans as inherently flawed and lacking independence, Socrateslogic based definition takes
away the emotion and humanity from love and leaves readers with an unappealing image of love
that leaves little to no room for mystery, curiosity, and pure emotion. One of the most famous
eulogies delivered in the Symposiumis delivered by Aristophanes in the form of a myth; he states

While it may be logical for Socrates to reject Alcibiades advances on grounds of exchanging
bronze for gold (219A), it is very unappealing and inhumane to see a potential relationship
forsaken simply because it is not a fair transaction . Alcibiades appears to be showing a real
emotional connection to Socrates, but he is simply not given a chance due to Socrates view on
what love should be. This is especially unappealing because oftentimes, we do not even try to
comprehend the logic or reasoning as to why we love someone or something; we simply
acknowledge that there is an emotional connection that sometimes cannot be fully explained
based on transactional value. Socrates definition also completely eliminates any mystery or
curiosity about love in the eyes of the reader; such a logical and transactional analysis presents
love as a formula that can be easily determined and explained. However, that is simply not the
reality. Love has always been an incredibly tantalizing subject for one reason it is mysterious.
People can seem to fall in love with each other in the blink of an eye, or a loving relationship
could take years of friendship to finally develop. Essentially, it is extremely difficult to pinpoint
exactly why we love someone or something,

Summary Of 357 Magnum Handgun
On December 24th, 2007 Joseph McEnroe and Michele Kristen, both 29, murdered six people
with a .357 caliber magnum handgun. They shot and killed her parents, brother and his wife and
their two children. The motive is believed to be money, her parents had requested they start paying

The Basic Function Of A Police Officer
The Use of Force
It is the basic function of a police officer to deal with any problems that might require the use of
coercive force according to Carl B. Klockars (Dempsey and Frost 2011). I feel it is how they
uses that force is what makes the difference between a good officer and a bad one. This first
example from (www.justice.gov) is of an officer that uses excessive force on a suspect that is
already unter control, the only good i seen out of this is that the other officer on the scene reported
his conduct to their supervisor.
This case arose from Boone s use of excessive force against Orville Hill during Hill s arrest on Feb.
19, 2013. During the incident, Boone arrived at a scene where three fellow Des Moines police
officers were holding Hill on the ground and a fourth officer was standing over the group. Boone
ran up to the group and kicked Hill in the face, knocking out two of Hill s teeth and breaking his
nose. Other officers reported Boone s conduct to supervisors after learning that Boone had
submitted a written report in which he failed to account truthfully for his actions. On March 13,
2015, a jury found Boone guilty of violating Hill s civil rights by using unreasonable force .
My next example shows were an off duty officer used a text book case of the use of deadly force,
i feel the suspect was hunting the officer and would have killed the officer given the chance.
The Oct. 8 incident occurred after the 33 year veteran was heading home in his personal

The Law of Attraction
The Law of Attraction Many people in this world live their lives without any aspirations towards
greatness. They think that they don t stand a chance of fulfilling any of the dreams or goals they
might have. Their idea of dreams coming true are far from their imagination and stick around with
the absurd idea of keeping their feet in the ground and stop day dreaming or even think about it.
What they don t know is that by just thinking about it, they re much closer to their dreamthan what
they thoughtthey were. There are several steps to follow though, steps that will make you reach
your goal a lot faster with just using your mindand that are what I d like to demonstrate you.

you want it or not if you think about it you ll attract it. Some people say that this is where the
saying Be careful with what you wish for comes from. It doesn t matter if it s for good or bad by
having it in your head you just might get it.
The law of attraction has been with us always, whether you knew about it or not (Byrne 58).
Where we could see it a lot is with children. Take me for example, when I was little I used to
dream about going to Disney World. I would see the commercials and I would see myself there
also. Playing, meeting my favorite characters, getting on all the rides and just simply having
fun. I would pray and ask my parents to take me. Down deep inside of me I knew I was going to
be able to go one day, I never lost hope. Until one day my aunt decided to organize a trip for the
whole family and I just couldn t believe it! After all that wishing and hoping I finally got to go
and made my biggest dream come true. That s exactly what a person needs to do, have faith that
you re going to receive it and just like a child, don t worry on the how and when to receive it. Just
wait and have that certainty of being able to have it at the right time at the right moment.
What also keeps a lot of people away from their goals is their fear. Fear of hoping and day dream

Reconstruction After the Civil War Essay example
Presidential Reconstruction and Congressional Reconstruction have some differences and some

part of reconstruction and when he was assassinated, Andrew Johnson took over his role of
President and of reconstructing the south. Abraham Lincolnwanted to fix the intersectional hatred
that was caused from the civil war. On December 8, 1863 Lincoln set a general policy that by

In response to blacks getting more and more rights, rebel groups formed to perform terror attacks on
the blacks within their communities. The most known, even today, was the Ku Klux Klan. The
members of this society used scare tactics to keep blacks from voting, and they succeeded in scaring
many off, even after law enforcement stepped in. African Americans were able to vote when the
Southern states felt pressure to get the military out of their major districts. Many black voters voted
Republican; this led many southern states to restrict their voting. Congress then set the fifteenth
amendment in place, this laid out the rights that all men had to vote. This is the reason
reconstruction failed African Americans, when Johnson overruled the Freedmen s Bureau. This
was also apparent when he vetoed the Civil
Rights Act. Even though African Americans had people in congress that believed their fate was
unfair, these people had enemies in the opposing party. This friction led to the fate that blacks
would suffer through for years to come. 2

Earnshaw, is in search for justice and vengeance throughout his whole life. First, Heathcliff wants
justice by mistreating his brother s son the way he mistreated when they were children. Also he
searches justice by destroying his lover s husband and taking Thrushcross Grange as his property.
Furthermore, it is noticeable that Heathcliffs perspective of justice is actually revenge.
Although Hindley s son, Hareton, was not guilty for the way his father treated Heathcliff, he still
took his anger into the little child. After Mr. Earnshaw s death, Hindley degraded Heathcliff by

Why Is It Important For Children
Why Is It Important For Children to Have Opportunities For Play? (D1)
Play is engaging in activities for enjoyment and recreation rather than a serious or practical
purpose (Oxford Dictionary, 2015). It s important for children to have opportunities to play because
children have a natural curiosity to discover and explore and this is done through play. Play is a

Thesis Statement On Civic Spaces
Hrushita Davey
PA101614
Masters in Architecture Thesis Proposal
December 2015
Guided by: Professor Jigna Desai
Abstract
My point of departure for this thesis is that in many of our post industrial cities, the civic realm has
increasingly shrunk and the private realm has continuously expanded and civic spaces are arguably
more important today than ever. Most people are found using the unplanned public spaces rather
than the planned public spaces. The issue is approached by focusing on a middle ground between
urban planning and design of individual buildings. The intent is to design an insertion that responds
to specific features of the existing urban structure and the regulatory framework currently in place.
Here the juxtaposition of the old and new becomes the visible passage of time. The re
appropriation of old forms includes what maybe called the neo vernacular as one mode of
intellectual justification for architecture in our times. This proposition is an attempt to demonstrate
a continuous interface between public and private spaces and between access networks and
inhabitable spaces.
Keywords: civic spaces, civic realm, public, middle ground, neo vernacular

The impact on civic spaces post liberalization and the consequent globalization has been
tremendous. Today, most of the emerging civic spaces are sadly being designed like
commodities. The other very obvious shift is seen in the aspiration of cities at large to emerge as
front runners in the global rat race. This global ambition unfortunately fails to acknowledge the
local. While it may be true that the Government, both at the central and state level is trying to
address and bring amends to the existing condition (including the regulatory framework) of the
civic realm, there is still a long way to go for concrete

  • 2. Dual Branding 1. What are the conceptual underpinnings of a dual brand strategy? A dual brand strategy is the association of two or more already well recognized trademarks in a synergistic retail setting designed to benefit each, is one of the fastest growing areas in franchising. Numerous systems are learning that they re significantly more effective in presenting their products and services to the public when they do so in association with another brand. A company may use dual branding when they want to increase the market share, saturating the market by filling all price and quality gaps and catering to brand switchers users who like to experiment with different brands, a dual brand strategy also may be applied when two companies want to... • 3. Essay on Mezzanine Finance Explained Mezzanine Finance by Corry Silbernagel Davis Vaitkunas Bond Capital With a supplement by Ian Giddy Mezzanine Debt Another Level To Consider Mezzanine debt is used by companies that are cash flow positive to fund: further growth through expansion projects; acquisitions; recapitalizations; and, management and leveraged buyouts. When mezzanine debt is used in conjunction with senior debt it reduces the amount of equity required in the business. As equity is the most expensive form of capital, it is most cost effective to create a capital structure that secures the most funding, offers the lowest cost of capital, and maximizes return on equity. Mezzanine debt has been around for over 30 years, however its use in Western Canada and the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although it makes up a portion of a company s total available capital, mezzanine financing is critical to growing companies and in succession planning in recent years. The gap in funding between senior debt and equity is common for the following reasons: 1) accounts receivable, inventories and fixed assets are being discounted at greater rates than in the past for fear that their values will not be realized in the future; 2) many balance sheets now contain significant intangible assets, and, 3) as a result of defaults and regulatory pressure, banks have placed ceilings on the amount of total debt a company can obtain. While additional liquidity can be obtained from equity investors, equity is the most expensive source of capital. Further, equity capital, by its nature, dilutes existing shareholders. As a result, mezzanine debt can be an attractive alternative way to obtain much needed capital. Capital Structures While there are no hard and fast rules for optimizing a company s capital structure, companies that are ahead of the curve use an efficient combination of senior debt, mezzanine debt, and equity capital to minimize their true cost of capital. • 4. My Yoga Journey This is not a book about how to practise yoga postures but rather an approach as to how to include a search for consciousness in every aspect of yoga. Our yoga journey is the tool for understanding. My yoga journey started more than ten years ago with an intense and dedicated interest in learning yoga postures from Ashtanga, Hatha, Jivamukti, etc. In the beginning I practised most days of the week and imagined that I would never tire, in spite of long trips to the studio in the early hours of the morning. A pleasant reward was that my blood pressure dropped back to normal and I could stop taking medicines. So, from the start, I knew that yoga could provide health benefits as well as an enormous feeling of wellbeing. No matter how tired and fed up one felt at the beginning of a session, the mental lift afterwards was deeply satisfying. Meditation, Savasana, or corpse posture, wound up every session so it also became clear that postures or asanas were only part of the remedy. Meditation and yoga practise from the very beginning fired my interest in searching for an inner consciousness. This is an easily misunderstood word and means many different things to many different people. Some will associate it with awareness, or mindfulness ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Active Voice Voice: In simple words, Voice (in other words (but rarely said) is also called, diathesis) is a term that describes the relation between an action (verb) taken by the subject, the subject (the one who performs the action) and the object (the thing being acted upon). Active Voice: Active voice is most commonly used verb. Active voice is where; the subject is the one who performs an action (verb), while object is the thing being acted upon. When the subject performs an action, the verb is in Active voice. For example: The mouse ate the cheese. Here, the mouse is the subject, ate is the action (verb) and cheese is the object. Uses of the Active Voice: Active sentences are more direct (This proves that the subject admits that he was the one who did the act) and engaging for the reader. The sentences are shorter and allow you to express an authoritative tone. And they are also often less confusing and ambiguous. Passive Voice: Passive voice is where; the object is suspected to have done an action (verb) and the subject is the thing being performed on. When the subject is the target for an action, then the verb is in Passive voice. For example: The cheese was eaten by the mouse. • 7. Inhibitory or Excitatory Potential Changes Essay example Inhibitory or Excitatory Potential Changes MDMA affects the brain by increasing the activity of at least three neurotransmitters (the chemical messengers of brain cells): serotonin, dopamine, and nor epinephrine (The Brain s Response to Hallucinogens). This increase in activity can be either excitatory or inhibitory in nature depending on the neurotransmitter involved and which part of the reaction to the drug is taking place . Every area of the brain containing serotonin, dopamine, and/or norepinephrine is affected by MDMA, but the serotonergic and dopaminergic pathways are principally affected. This includes the neocortex and much of the limbic system. Within the limbic system, the hypothalamus, basal ganglia, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Once in the synapse, MDMA binds to receptors on the postsynaptic neuron and causes a decrease in its firing rate. The presence of so much serotonin as well as MDMA activates many receptors on the postsynaptic neuron. There are approximately 15 different serotonin receptors, and the quantity of each type differs from person to person (Kalat 68). Because MDMA has an affinity for particular receptors and the quantity of those receptors can be so varied, the effects of MDMA are varied as well. This is why accounts from MDMA users change from person to person and from one use to the next. Whatever the quantity of receptors, MDMA binds to those it has an affinity for and causes the receptors to produce EPSP s. If enough EPSP s are sent to the cell body from the receptors then an electrical impulse will stimulate the release of more neurotransmitters into the synapse. It is the action at the serotonin synapses that are responsible for the hallucinogenic effects of MDMA. ...Ecstasy causes a sustained increase in the amount of serotonin in the synaptic space, leading to sustained activation of more serotonin receptors. This can produce an elevated mood (euphoria) (Hallucinogens). MDMA is a mixed agonist/ antagonist for serotonin. It mimics the characteristics of a monoamine in being nonacidic (no charge) in order to cross the blood brain ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Another scene, when he thought Princess Fiona did hat him because he was ugly. He was sad to think that everyone used to justify him with his ugly face but none could feel his heart. • 9. Acquainted With The Night Analysis Essay Robert Frost s poem Acquainted with the Night delves into the spatial and personal point of views of the speaker s depressed mindset to depict exactly how deep the speaker has fallen into a dark place, physically and mentally. The first stanza immediately establishes the speaker and uses a unique choice of words to describe the scene. I is used to begin each line in the first stanza, which ultimately leads the reader to believe that I is the speaker. I also is the first sign of isolation suggested by Frost. Specifically, the very first line of the poem suggests personal point of view from the speaker. The usage of one and acquainted are unique in this poem due to the fact that one can suggest that this night may not have been the first... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Before Frost gets to the watchman, he gives emotion to an an emotionless thing known as the street. It isn t just sad, but it is the saddest, which only shows that the furthest and saddest things are the worst that the speaker has ever been around. The intensity here is building and the reader hopes that maybe passing the watchman will fill the void of loneliness. Notice that the watchman on his beat is the first and only human interaction that the speaker has the entire poem. A tight shot is used to show the lack of reaction from the speaker passing the watchman. The scene is set in a city, so naturally the reader would infer that the streets would not be filled with people at night, but would have more than just a watchman on the job walking around. Here it is emphasized that the speaker cannot even look in the direction of the only person on the street. What the reader does not know is what exactly the speaker is unwilling to explain to the watchman. Ultimately, physical emptiness of the city lane except for a single person walking around deepens the depression and anxiety that the speaker is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Essay On Revitalization And Infra-Structural Labor Rendering Vacancy Technical: Revitalization and Infra Structural Labor in Chicago I.Introduction The City of Chicago is using innovative programs to turn vacant land and buildings, cast as detritus, into a resource for spurring community centered development in disinvested neighborhoods. Focusing on the diverse forms of labor behind Chicago s vacancy initiatives, the proposed research will examine how these initiatives are reworking the political economic forces that produce landscapes of (dis)accumulation (Gilmore 2002:15) and recasting historical entanglements of waste, race and space. This study comes at a critical juncture in U.S. urbanization. Mass foreclosures in the wake of the housing crisis exacerbated the vacancy, population ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Bridging these literatures enables two theoretical contributions. The first builds on urban political economy s insight into capital s role in organizing urban landscapes. Scholars in this tradition demonstrate the destruction brought on by capital s ceaseless pursuit of profit; the political and discursive technologies that create new frontiers of accumulation in the detritus of this creative destruction (Harvey 2003); and the dispossession that ensues when devalorized spaces re enter capital s radar. Crucial to capital s circulation are purification campaigns (Merrifield 2002) that render devalorized spaces attractive to new investment. My research focuses on the labor of purification. By using discard studies insights to study redevelopment politics, I conceptualize the work of purification as infra structural labor (Gidwani 2015) that clears land of disinvestment s residues to accommodate future accumulation. This offers a new way of theorizing the production of urban space by revealing that pivotal in organizing post recession landscapes are not only the profit seeking actions of finance and real estate capital but also the quotidian labor of revalorization. Given the confluence of austerity with vacancy, depopulation, and plummeting property values across the Rust Belt, attention to this labor is timely and illuminates a key site for theoretical and policy ... • 11. Film Essay Cultural Turmoil in Francis Ford Coppola s Apocalypse Now The era of the 1960 s was one of change, just like so many of the enduring songs say. With words like revolution and freedom being used to promote movements that changed our society forever. The most important being the Civil Rights movement, and arguably the most influential: the sexual revolution. While great new ideas and beliefs were starting to take root, morals and social constructs that had been established were endangered of being lost in the mix. The moral code that had endured for so long was suddenly overlooked, or overpowered by a generation that was not interesting in listening to the older, conventional generations. The pressure to find new ways of thinking ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... (Brantlinger, 262). The soldiers in the movie may have been an exaggeration of true life, but Coppola s interpretation reflects one who personally experienced the cultural reaction. The images on television, the political demonstrations, the movements, even the arrival of psychedelic drugs, all escalated the nation in a way that was unprecedented. Coppola brought that heightened sense of awareness to the cinematic experience. The film starts with a song The End by the Doors. The lyrics of the song, written by the infamous Jim Morrison, describe a story like Oedipus: I ll never look into your eyes...again , Father, yes son, I want to kill you . Some have speculated this to be parallel to the plot, and also correlates back to Heart of Darkness. Also as in Heart of Darkness, Coppola s frame creates an appropriate bridge between the bizarre tale about to unfold and the wider context of modern cultural experience. (Greiff). It is a significant symbol of the time. Jim Morrison was well known as a drug user, poet, and an all around menace to a lawful society. His rebellious persona was not uncommon for his time, he was a voice for a generation that believed the time to hesitate is through. The song plays with scenes of a burning jungle: Coppola s uncomfortable tone is set. Willard is first introduced in a hotel room where he is losing his mind. He doesn t speak ... Hypothesis: Maybe the disappearance of red color in Serratia Marcescens is caused by the UV light which induces mutations in its DNA and is known as a common mutagen. Prediction: If UV light mutates the DNA of Serratia Marcescens then the red pigment colonies of the bacteria will no longer be produced. The second control plate was also observed to have furry and pigmented red growth in all the quadrants, despite being exposed to UV light due to the plate lid during exposure. The experiment plate showed the most interesting results, in the 10 second UV exposure quadrant the bacteria had red pigmented growth but it is speckled, pinpointed and the original swipes were not observed. Original swipe pattern of the bacteria was not observed in this colony. In the quadrant exposed to 30 seconds of UV light, the differences are even more significant as the colonies are few and far in between and only several pinpoint red colonies found with a few beige colonies and some colonies with red centers surrounded by beige. • 13. The Importance Of Food Security In The Philippines About 7 million Filipinos in 2015 have resorted to open defecation 85% of which are from rural areas without toilet facilities. This poses a threat to the safety of food and quality of drinking water (WHO, 2016). Although there is a valuable abundance of life and resources, the Philippines is paradoxically afflicted with various complications and barriers to fully access and sustainably use the natural resources available. The lives of Filipinos are thus categorized by an adversity that is persistent throughout the world even with recent progressive developments. Despite being one of the fastest growing economies in Southeast Asia in recent years, declines in poverty were modest, leaving marginalized groups such as women, children and the elderly vulnerable to hunger and poverty. This rapid economic growth, however, does not necessarily translate to better conditions when combined with other factors such as nutrition and food security (WFP, 2016). The country is managing to the best of its abilities to concentrate on the underlying issues threatening food security. Of those issues, the most encompassing is the lack of access to clean water and proper sanitation, which debilitates a populations ability to survive, actively work, and produce food. In attempt to address this issue, strict government enforcement of standards, non governmental intervention with affordable technology or means of sanitation, and education is necessary for improving the lives Filipinos. ... • 15. The Comparison Of Godot, By James Beckett There is a vast literature on interpretations of Godot, encompassing Christian and anti Christian religion, Freudian and Jungian psychology, and a kitchen sinkful of esoteric and obscure isms. The undeniable fact is that no one really knows what Godot is about, and the playwright himself clearly believed that the core of his art lay in the ambiguities resulting from the absence of information, saying that everything he knew about the characters was in the text and if he knew anything more about the characters then he would have put it in the text. That Godot is more hole than doughnut has made it an easy target of parody if not outright ridicule. Beckett evolved his unique literary voice by distinguishing his style from that of his mentor James Joyce, whom he assisted during the writing of Finnegans Wake. In almost exactly the opposite way, Joyce grounded his art in fanatically perfectionist control of his work, leaving no missing pieces or rough edges in stuffing his characters full to overflowing so that we the readers know more about them than they could possibly know about themselves. By far the best biography of Beckett, in my opinion, is by James Knowlson of the University of Reading, whose 20 year friendship with the playwright led to the donation of notebooks, manuscripts and other archival material that became the world s leading Beckett archive. Knowlson s title taken from a passage in Beckett s notebooks is Damned to Fame, neatly encapsulating the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 16. Summary Of Green Eggs And Ham Throughout his political career, Ted Cruz has had his ups and downs. In 2013, Cruz read Green Eggs and Ham during the 21 hour filibuster on the Senate Floor. It s ironic that he chose this story to read as a method to debase the Affordable Care Act. The story Green Eggs and Ham follows a character that is certain that he doesn t like green eggs and ham. Nevertheless, this character has never tried it. Anthropologists have disagreed about how to conceptualise religionsince the founding of the discipline. Assad argues that what Geertz and other call the religion , in a universal sense, is closely connected to Modernity in Europe and the subsequent spread of this modernity to other parts of the world. Geertz s notion of religious belief, which is central to his account of religion, is a modern privatised Christian one because it prioritises belief as a physiological process rather than as something embodied in practice. The things I would post would just not go over well with my family and friends who would just believe what they would see on television. I ve had bad experiences on Facebook for posting just about everything, but that was a while back. They took quite an offense to some of the things I would postabout that are going on in not only America but on a global level. Let s begin with my experiences and expectations with Tumblr first. Since opening up my Tumblr account, I decided to be more enigmatic and in the dark. After some consideration, I wondered what would happen if I breached social media etiquette and started sharing random YouTubevideos and off topic posts on our Comm2311 blog. Homelessness has become rampant throughout the US population. Each day more and more people are reported not to have this basic need, sleeping in the streets and wandering all day long. This has become a major area of concern for the government, social services providers and social policy makers. The government through the US Department of Housing and Urban Development has put in enormous efforts to combat the annual rise in homelessnessbut the situation has not significantly been curbed. Last year, for instance, there were 92, 593 homeless people who were reported to be chronically homeless. Although this is a 16 percent drop from 2010 statistics, the current figure is enormous enough to give sleepless nights to policy makers and the federal government. (US Department of Housing and Urban Development). This brings to question what the real odds bedeviling access to proper shelter are. While there is interplay of numerous factors, key among them is the rise in povertylevels. As the poverty index rises, so does the inability to afford basic shelter units. Many of the US state governments (majorly New York) have placed rent controls so as to make housing affordable to its citizens. Landlords rent their housing units to tenants at government controlled prices. This is done by the introduction on price ceilings and price floors. Tenants are therefore enabled ... • 38. Personal Narrative On A Bike Exposition: Have you ever had your bike stop out of nowhere, and you not know why? Pedaling but not moving anywhere. Feeling stuck, or even tipping over! Ouch, that really hurts! One morning I was my own savior. It was when I learned how to fix a chain on a bicycle wheel. Action and Supporting Details 1: I could see the road and sidewalk ahead of me. I could smell the wet rain, and I could feel the soft wind blowing against my skin. It was a cold morning, the season of fall. I was bored sitting on my couch when I decided to go for a bike ride. I was minding my own business riding down my block alongside my brother, when my bike stopped moving. Action and Supporting Details 2: I fell to the ground in slow motion with my bike on top me (By the way this bike was way to big for little Myra.) I got up from the ground, and realized that my brother was laughing at me. I looked at my bike and saw that my chain was popped off. I asked Andy what that was and he said I don t know fix it yourself. I set my bike on the curb and tried popping it back on. I finally got it back on after 10... Conclusion: From this experience, I taught myself to fix my bike. Now every time my chain popped off I could get right back to riding my bike. In the end, I felt that it was good that my brother didn t help me because I knew I could do it on my own now, even if my parents or anyone else weren t with me. While Aristophanes eulogy depicts humans as inherently flawed and lacking independence, Socrateslogic based definition takes away the emotion and humanity from love and leaves readers with an unappealing image of love that leaves little to no room for mystery, curiosity, and pure emotion. While it may be logical for Socrates to reject Alcibiades advances on grounds of exchanging bronze for gold (219A), it is very unappealing and inhumane to see a potential relationship forsaken simply because it is not a fair transaction . Alcibiades appears to be showing a real emotional connection to Socrates, but he is simply not given a chance due to Socrates view on what love should be. This is especially unappealing because oftentimes, we do not even try to comprehend the logic or reasoning as to why we love someone or something; we simply acknowledge that there is an emotional connection that sometimes cannot be fully explained based on transactional value. Socrates definition also completely eliminates any mystery or curiosity about love in the eyes of the reader; such a logical and transactional analysis presents love as a formula that can be easily determined and explained. However, that is simply not the reality. Love has always been an incredibly tantalizing subject for one reason it is mysterious. This first example from (www.justice.gov) is of an officer that uses excessive force on a suspect that is already unter control, the only good i seen out of this is that the other officer on the scene reported his conduct to their supervisor. This case arose from Boone s use of excessive force against Orville Hill during Hill s arrest on Feb. 19, 2013. During the incident, Boone arrived at a scene where three fellow Des Moines police officers were holding Hill on the ground and a fourth officer was standing over the group. Other officers reported Boone s conduct to supervisors after learning that Boone had submitted a written report in which he failed to account truthfully for his actions. • 55. Thesis Statement On Civic Spaces Hrushita Davey PA101614 Masters in Architecture Thesis Proposal December 2015 Guided by: Professor Jigna Desai Abstract My point of departure for this thesis is that in many of our post industrial cities, the civic realm has increasingly shrunk and the private realm has continuously expanded and civic spaces are arguably more important today than ever. Most people are found using the unplanned public spaces rather than the planned public spaces. The issue is approached by focusing on a middle ground between urban planning and design of individual buildings. The intent is to design an insertion that responds to specific features of the existing urban structure and the regulatory framework currently in place. Here the juxtaposition of the old and new becomes the visible passage of time. The re appropriation of old forms includes what maybe called the neo vernacular as one mode of intellectual justification for architecture in our times. This proposition is an attempt to demonstrate a continuous interface between public and private spaces and between access networks and inhabitable spaces.
