Photosynthesis Experiment With Spinach
Photosynthesis is the process in which plants use sunlight to create energy. Sunlight gets absorbed into
chlorophyll in the plant cells which then convert the light to energy. That energy helps with the
process of hydrolysis in breaking CO2 and water down. Through this breaking up, oxygen and glucose
are created. Photosynthesis has total of six stages, but those are broken up into two main stages. The
first stage is a light dependent reaction, which is when the energy from the sunlight is taken and then
converted by the chlorophyll molecules into stored energy. This reaction takes place in the thylakoid
membranes in the granum within the chloroplast ( Light Dependent ). In this reaction, there is a
transfer of electrons from water to CO2 which begins the creation of the byproduct of oxygen. The
sunlight gives a boost of energy to the chlorophyll which gets over the activation barrier and makes
the chlorophyll release an electron (Vidyasagar). Chlorophyll molecules trap the light through
pigments and absorb ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The test was to see if spinach leaves could go through a short photosynthesis cycle without CO2, light,
or both. This was done by using sodium bicarbonate and water to create CO2 in two of the beakers.
With two beakers with CO2 and two without CO2, the effect of CO2 on photosynthesis could be
observed. Because sunlight is important to photosynthesis, the other part of the experiment was to
observe the difference between the spinach disks when exposed to sunlight and the spinach disks
when exposed to only darkness. Because of the photosynthetic equation: 6 CO2 + 6 H2O + sunlight
→ C6H12O6 + 6 O2, changing the light and the CO2 would impact the outcome of the process. This
would leave the leaves at the bottom of the beaker as they would not be able to float up without the
product of oxygen pushing them

Child Custody Essay
Frequently, parents or other seeking guardians who seek custody of a child will seek guidance through
the court. In most states, family courts determine child custody arrangements based on what is in the
best interests of the child. The courts look at a number of factors in making this determination. They
look at parents desire and ability to care for the child. They also look at emotional bond between the
child and both parents or seeking guardian.
Child Custody is when a parent or guardian is granted physical and/or legal custody of a child by court
order. There are several types of child custody, but four are focused in this presentation. First, legal
custody, which means the court granted rights to make important, long term life decisions on behalf of
the child. Next, physical custody, which refers to sharing of a home with a child and handling his or
her day to day care. Then, sole custody, this is typically referring to a court ordered arrangement

I know what it s like to be afraid of your own mind. (Dr. Reid/Criminal Minds) People with mental
illness face stigmas, and those associated with bipolar condition are challenged even more. Although
there are those in our society who believe that bipolar disorder, or manic disorder, is self induced,
meaning you can just get over it , further observations have revealed that those who suffer from manic
disorder endure this illness characterized by dramatic and unpredictable mood swings. Mania
symptoms may include excessive happiness, excitement, irritability, restlessness, increased energy,
less need for sleep, racing thoughts, and a tendency to make grand and unattainable plans. Depression

Cephalization In Mammals
Cephalization is the process of concentration of neural cells within a distinct structure mostly in the
anterior region of the body. In mammals this neuronal region is known as CNS which resides in the
skull and the vertebral column. Cephalization is the key milestone in the history of evolution it is the
key to success for higher animals to survive. Highly developed brains provide agility and complex
behavioral strategies which increase the fitness of animals. If we talk about mammals; they originate
about 200 million years ago and are the most advanced group of animals. They are also very
intelligent and well adaptive creature. Highly developed CNS is responsible for their success.
According to Moroz (2009) two hypotheses are given to describe the evolution of the CNS. These are
monophyly and polyphyly. According to monophyly all the neuronal cells originated from a single
ancestral cell lines. Another hypothesis known as polyphyly, complex brains originated from multiple
origins in different animal lineages. In 1830, Geoffroy suggested the homology of ventral and dorsal
sides of the vertebrates. In 1994, Arendt et al., repotedted that during the evolution of chordates
inversion of the dorso ventral body axis took place and the ventral side of the ancestral arthropods

In 2000, Braton and Dartington proposed the concept of mosaic evolution of mammalian brain
structures according to which all brain structures evolved independently. Another consideration is that
brain must fit into the skull. In this regard in 2007 Dumber and Shults suggested that if development
constrains the skull size evolution the brain evolution is accompanied by increased growth of one
region and decrease in other region rather than increased

The Little Red Hen Research Paper
In the famous fable The Little Red Hen , a hen is hungry and decides to bake some bread. She starts
the task and it is more difficult than she originally thought it would be and so asks other animals on
the farm where she lives for help in sifting the flour, mixing the dough, and finally in baking it. Every
animal she asks replies that they are too tired or busy to help her, but when the bread is finally
finished, they come running to eat . The little red hen replies that they will under no terms eat any of
the bread because she is the one that sifted the flour, mixed and rolled the dough and baked the bread
alone. Only she will reap the rewards she deserves from her work.

The Scavengers Short Story
It was one dark and stormy night on the North Atlantic Sea. Guns blazing, gun powder everywhere, so
thick you can barely see ten feet in front of you, the sound of swords clashing together, and the smell
of dozens of bodies rotting away in puddles of blood, the smell so thick that you can almost taste it. It
was a battle between two groups of pirates, The Scavengers and The Buccaneers, fighting for the map
to treasure. They have been fighting for years in search of this treasure. It all started when two
brothers, who were once very close, built a hatred for each other when their father had to decide who
was next in line to take his place as captain. Bucky, captain of the Buccaneers, was the strong one,
more athletic than any other pirate. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

at his decision. With frustration and anger, he killed his father so he would have to become the next
captain, but Lex already had possession of the map. Buckey decided to start his own crew and go after
what is rightfully his, the map to the treasure. They haven t had many encounters because Lex is too
smart to leave any trace of his crew or where they have been. The only times they did encounter each

Essay On Lower House Of Government
The United States and France are two countries with similar ways of electing the lower house of
government. Both countries are divided into districts with single member representation. However, the
United States uses a majority system, first past the post, while France uses a majority plurality, two
round system. With each system there are separate advantages and disadvantages. Nonetheless, the
first past the post system used in the United States is more efficient, cost effective, and
comprehendible to the average person. The United States of America elects the lower house of
government using simple majority. This system can also be described as a plurality, or first past the
post. The United States is divided into 435 different districts by population, with one individual
representing each constituency. Members of the House of Representatives, the lower house of
government in the United States, are elected every two years. (Parline Database, 2016) The methods
by which candidates are brought to the ballot vary by state. However, most states use a partisan
primary to bring candidates to the final ballot. For example, Washington State uses the top two method

Under plurality, the individual who receives the most votes receives the seat in the House of
Representatives. The individual may not always receive the majority of votes because more than two
individuals may receive votes. This leads to wasted votes in that everyone who voted for the losing
candidate does not have their vote represented. In addition, more seats may be given to a political
party than votes received. If a political party receives a plurality of votes with thirty percent
nationwide, they may be the new majority party but seventy percent of the country still voted for
somebody else. (Hoard,

What Is The Theme Of Coole Park
Assignment 1: Close Reading Coole Park, 1929 is a poem written by W.B Yeats. This poem is part of
the works the poet wrote in the third phase of his career; a phase characterized by the retrospective of
his personal experience within the framework of Irish history. Through this poem, W.B Yeats broaches
the theme of memory, the artistic creation and pays tribute to Lady Gregory and her estate.
Memory is a central theme in Coole Park . This poem is constituted of four stanzas of eight verses
each, all structured in Iambic pentameters. Each stanza is written in Ottava Rima, a very popular
poetic form associated to Italian epic poems during the Renaissance. This rhyming stanza form refers
to the past and permits to the poet to broach ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the ninth verse, the poet gives a symbolic dimension to a blade; There Hyde before he had beaten
into prose; That noble blade the Muses buckled on (v9 10). Here, the alliteration in b reinforces the
musicality of the verse. In the verses twelve and thirteen, the poet paints a portrait of Douglas Hyde
and John Synge. The full rhyme pose (v11) and those (v13) associates the two characters. The
repetition of the words There and that in the stanza emphasizes the descriptive dimension of the verses
(v9, v10, v11, v13). The musicality of the stanza is enhanced by the internal rhyme of the verse 14;
Impetuous men, Shawe Taylor and Hugh Lane . In the third stanza, these literary figures are compared
to swallows; They came like swallows and like swallows went (v17). This imagery of the swallows
echoes with the first verse of the poem. Lady Gregory s depiction of a poet s guide is emphasized by
an enjambment between the verse eighteen and nineteen. Finally, Coole Park is described as the heart
of artistic creation through a comparison to a compass point attracting half a dozen of poets in creative

However, last year we enjoyed improvements in our supply chain by shipping more freight from Asia
to the U.S. via ocean carriers. Furthermore, we have also implemented the use of rail transport from
ocean terminals to Dell fulfillment centers within the United States. This process has also become a
standard practice to deliver notebooks to customers in Latin America and EMEA.
To provide world class logistics support for Dell and our customers, our logistics teams must also

Google s People Management Division On The Topic Essay
Executive Summary
This case discusses the research, implementation, and review of Google s people management division
on the topic Do Managers Matter? Starting as soon as the early 2000 s but coming to full steam in
2009, Google s people analytics group initiated a research project, deemed Project Oxygen, to
investigate if and how management style would potentially affect employees. Through lengthy data
collection, Project Oxygen members discovered that a certain eight management characteristics
resulted in a noticeably larger gain in efficiency and overall happiness of subordinates. Google s
internal reviews proved exceptionally important, as the culture instilled through the founders is
inherently different than other large corporations, as is the relatively flat organization structure. By
taking the previously stated eight characteristics, implementing feedback surveys, and providing
courses for low scoring areas, Project Oxygen members were able to cultivate improvements in each
manager s ability, not only in their Mountain View headquarters, but globally. These improvements
were not without hesitations. Nevertheless, the results and implementation of Project Oxygen resulted
in drastic increases in the overall management rating. Google was not only able to determine how
managers do matter, but were able to develop managers beyond their current performance. This
success of Project Oxygen inevitably prompts the question of what other projects can cultivate

Standards For Financial Decision Making
Abstract. The article reviewed was Standards for Financial Decision Making: Legal, Ethical, and
Practical Issues. The key of the abstract is to emphasize the existence of standards and statutory
mechanisms for financial decision making. The article is based on standards of the National
Guardianship Association (NGA) (p. 1275).
Introduction. The authors study the meaning of term standard . Some dictionaries determine the term
standard as a model of acceptance, others as a measuring criterion. If entities do not operate under the
established standards, they face with sanctions for ethical violations and professional negligence. The
authors analyzes principles and guidance of NGA standards, and frequent mistakes when making
financial decisions. The main objective of the study is to analyze conflicting issues of financial
decision making, guardianship problems, and adoption of NGA standards (pp. 1275 1276). The study
is important because it demonstrates practical approaches of applying standards to the common
financial decisions. The authors consider two problems: the impact of fiduciary duties on decision
making standards, and the acceptance of model behavior by guardians of business.
Literature Review. The authors use a systematic review of literature in the research. The literature
review is categorized into three parts: general principles of decision making, the role of guardian and
conservator in decision making, the relationships between fiduciary duties and

Disobeying Unjust Laws In Julie Otsuka s When The Emperor...
Thoreau and King s philosophy of disobeying unjust laws that were created without the consent of the
general public could have greatly benefitted the mother from Julie Otsuka s novel When the Emperor
was Divine. Ultimately, if the mother used this technique of disobeying an immoral law, she could
have fought against the devastating injustice of internment which led to her as well as other Japanese
Americans to have negative psychological effects as a result of racism and marginalization. King s
teachings could have positively impacted the mother as he advocated for disobeying a law that
dehumanizes an ethnic group, especially if the group had no say in the enactment of the law. The
government s degradation of Japanese Americans had negative consequences on the mother as she
attempted to hide her Japanese identity, but King s principles could have helped the mother realize the
unfairness of the passing of the government s policies which would lead to her combating its racism.
In King s letter, he makes evident the differences between moral and unjust laws. He explains his logic
for breaking the law as he felt he had no choice in the creation of the laws which targeted African
Americans and kept them inferior. Specifically, King explains how the segregation laws were inflicted
upon a minority even though the minority had no part in enacting and devising the law which aligns
with how the legislature who created the laws were not democratically elected since blacks were

In Rip Van Winkle by Washington Irving, Rip goes to sleep for twenty years to escape his nagging
wife. When he wakes up, everything has changed. During these twenty years, he is in a mindless state.
This story can relate to everyone because we all have mindless states, yet they are all unique to the
individual. For me, my mindless states are a way to escape reality and feel at peace. I experience
mindless states through several different activities. They are being in school, listening to music, and
being on my phone. These are simple activities yet they take me to a different place and I escape what
I am doing in the moment. My mindless states can have positive and negative effects on me. They
may be what is helping me break free from the moment but when it is time to come back to reality, I
am shocked at what I have missed and forgotten to do. I am so deep in my mindless state, I forget time
is passing and I have done nothing. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When I become bored in class it is an automatic reaction to zone out and start thinking about other
topics. This mindless state has negative effects and consequences on me. In fact, while I am zoned out,
I am missing valuable class time and information. This puts me behind others because they know
more information on the topic than I do. For example, in Mr. Lemon s class I daydream a lot during
his lectures about a book or MLA formatting. One day I came up with a theory just by looking at a
binder clip. This is important because if I did not daydream in Mr. Lemon s class I could get a higher
grade on a test if I payed more attention during lectures. Zoning out in class therefore has negative
effects and consequences on me. In conclusion, daydreaming in class may be the only way to escape
boredom but in the long run trying to stay focused could help with missing knowledge and increase

Subsidy
Background.
What this paper endeavours to illustrate is that government funding is sometimes necessary for the
sustainable functioning of the economy and society from a holistic perspective. Firstly, let us define
the term subsidy , and how this fits in an economic context. Oxford Dictionary defines subsidy as
follows: a sum of money granted by the state or a public body to help an industry or business keep the
price of a commodity or service low (OED Add. Ser. Vol. 3, 1997). Subsidising industry is anathema
to the concept of free trade as the very foundation of free trade, as we know, is built on the cornerstone
of laissez faire capitalism and a limited role for government inasmuch as the market is out of the
sphere of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This approach will provide for us a rounded view of how one symptom of a potential short fall in the
market may lead to the development of more symptoms and impact the economy in a more noticeable
way.
If we loosely adopt the progression as depicted in the vicious cycle diagram on the left, and begin
from the initial action of the closure of SPC, there is an immediate impact on the market by way of
equity (i.e., Coca Cola Amatil s share holders are affected), companies relying on SPC will find it
difficult to adapt to the new business conditions as they will now have to adjust for the loss of a
significant client, strain will also be placed on competitors as they may need to facilitate for greater
supply in order to satisfy the growing demand (thus placing unprecedented pressure on the business
and potentially increasing their over heads and capital outlay). Furthermore, certain communities and
townships may have flourished due to the inception or establishment of an industry or business (in this
context, the Shepparton, Victoria community where the canning facility is based) may now experience
difficulty and major adjustments that will effectively impact other areas of operations in the market. It
s almost impossible to quantify the level of impact on the market without an actuarial investigation,
but if we can assume that the local currency is affected, this may greatly affect other businesses that
rely on imports. When the purpose of business is to make

Snowflake Persuasive Speech
I m Snowflake, one of Santa s elves that work here in the toy factory. I am also the main helper for
Santa, I make sure that all of the toys are finished and perfect. I ve been working here for longer than
you can imagine. Today I have an important job directly from Santa. I have to give all of the elves a
performance check. A performance check is when I have to make sure each individual elf is doing the
job that they were a signed to. If they are doing what they are supposed to do Santa says that I have to
put them in candy cane jail, with all of the elf criminals. I ve seen the elves in candy cane jail once, it
was horrifying! Most of the elf criminals that are in there are for stolen toys! I know what you are

making toys correctly, nice shape of the wheels, and nice stitching on the teddy bears. Your total score

Born on the Fourth of July
This book was incredible! In all truth this was the first book I have ever read cover to cover. The book,
by Ron Kovic, as compared to the film, by Oliver Stone, had some impressive similarities. Both the
book and the film did a great job of portraying Ron s childhood in Massapequa, Long Island. From the
little league games to playing war in the woods, leading charges and setting ambushes. This was
especially well done in the movie, and exactly as I pictured them while reading the book. The time
that he spent in Mexico was well defined in the book as well as in the film. While there were many
similarities, what I feel is more important is to focus on the differences.
There were countless small differences in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His parents were also a lot more concerned with him going in the film than they were in the book,
especially his mother. While in the book Kovic makes it extremely clear that the most influential
reason for him joining the Marines was because of the movies he saw as a boy, specifically the Sands
of Iwo Jima and To Hell and Back . He loved the way that Hollywood had glamorized the battles and
the wars. When he thought of war that was what he thought about, John Wayne making a stand, taking
out Japs and Nazi s with quick shots from the hip, all these things. No innocent people were hurt, the
hero always came home and that hero was loved and applauded when he got there. What Kovic found
out was that these ideas were indeed influenced by Hollywood. The hero seldom comes home, and
during these times he was not greeted by screaming fans but by hippies that protested his involvement.
It also seemed that the film did not do a great job of portraying the deplorable conditions of the
veteran s hospitals. Sure they showed some of the crude parts, but for the amount of the book that was
dedicated to exposing what was going on in the VA hospitals the film did not seem to express it.
From what I can tell Oliver Stone did an incredible job making this movie. There were a few
discrepancies between the book and the film, but on the whole I believe

Positive Aspects to Leagalizing Marijuana
ENC1101 14 February 2013 The Positive Effects of Legalizing Marijuana The word marijuana has
been a concerned topic in almost every American home today. Marijuana, whose botanical name is
cannabis, has been used by humans for thousands of years. It was classified as an illegal drug by many
countries in the 20th century. Over the past two decades, there has been a growing movement to
legalize marijuana, primarily for medical purposes. Opposing views on the subject of decriminalizing
the plant has caused much controversy over the past twenty years and still remains an important issue.

Among its other legal drug counterparts, marijuana is by far the least physically harmful. Cigarettes,
alcohol, tobacco, prescription painkillers, and even sleep aids are all highly addictive, and all can lead
to death. Even Tylenol is so damaging that Vicodin and Percocet are being considered to be illegalized
because of the Tylenol, not the opiates, in them. Marijuana has been shown to be effective in reducing
the nausea induced by cancer chemotherapy, stimulating appetite in AIDS patients, and reducing
intraocular pressure in people with glaucoma. There is also appreciable evidence that marijuana
reduces muscle spasticity in patients with neurological disorders. A synthetic capsule is available by
prescription, but it is not as effective as smoked marijuana for many patients (Alliance). In 1972, the
US Congress placed marijuana in Schedule I of the Controlled Substances Act because they
considered it to have no accepted medical use. Since then, 17 of 50 US states and DC have legalized
the medical use of marijuana. According to Joycelyn Elders, MD, Former US Surgeon General, The
evidence is overwhelming that marijuana can relieve certain types of pain, nausea, vomiting and other
symptoms caused by such illnesses as multiple sclerosis, cancer and AIDS, or by the harsh drugs
sometimes used to treat them. And it can do so with remarkable safety. Indeed, marijuana is less toxic

The Second Amendment And The Fourteenth Amendment Essay
Out of the Twenty Seven Amendments in the American Constitution, the first ten known as the Bill of
Rights, are arguably the most important to the American people. With the exception of the thirteenth
and the fourteenth Amendments abolishing slavery and making ever persons born or naturalized in the
United States a wholesome member of the United States and under the protection of the Constitution.
The fourth Amendment is clear as it defines The right of the people are to be secure in their persons,
houses, papers and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no
warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by oath or affirmation, particularly describing
the place to be searched, and the person or things to be seized. (U.S Const., amend. IV.) The fourth
Amendment is the most important tool and most commonly used Amendment in law enforcement
today. It is a like a double edged sword sometimes when dealing with criminals and their illegitimate
activity. Even though they are criminals and what they are doing is breaking the law, they too have
rights that protect them from the government and their grasp. All of the cases that are brought before
the Supreme Court for another look at the case are because the defendant believes their rights have
been violated. When dealing with people and their personal effects, the words used can be very
difficult to fully comprehend without any legal guidance. The question here is what is the

Deforestation And Its Effects On Deforestation
Rainforests are found typically in tropical areas with a constant heavy rainfall in its biodiversity. When
areas of rainforests are destroyed, it s not just the trees that disappear. It s time for the government to
take action on deforestation. Rainforests are an important location for indigenous people and animals
because that s where their home belongs. Yet the government and organizations ignore those facts and
just demolish their homes in order to gain a new location for productions. It s a topic that s constantly
debated in politics and society should take a recognition on what s happening in deforestation. More
than half of the world s rainforests are destroyed and is in danger by humans, therefore, the
government shouldn t allow deforestation anymore in order to save the remaining rainforests in the
environment because it affects habitats, species, and indigenous people. Loss of habitats is an evident
threat in the rainforest as the facilities continue to form new funds to buildings and resources. In
deforestation, people can profit and revenue on the resources to inhibit for society to use. They profit
on the resources they sell to other countries after they obtain the sources they received from the
rainforests. Rather than the facilities looking at a profit for their own benefits, the destruction of the
land will cause the species to never return back nor will it provide shelter for them in their adapting
habitat. Even if deforestation is to distribute goods

Socrates Death Argument Analysis
Brian Frias
Professor Pereira
Philosophy 100 M/W 8 9:15
9 February 2015
Socrates Death Arguments Socrates was an ancient philosopher set in Athens, Greece. Socrates, being
known for stirring up arguments amongst the city s wisest men, grew widely unpopular in the
community. This unpopularity, and many other troubles led Socrates to be accused and sentenced to
trial for corrupting the youth, and of not believing in the Gods of the city. During Socrates trial, he
brings up arguments about why we should not fear death, just as he does not. In this essay I will cover
Socrates two arguments about death, their inconsistencies, and explain why Socrates changed his
position about death towards the end of the trial. While Socrates is being held ... Show more content

He starts to talk about how this penalty of death is actually a good thing for him, and he is not angry
for it. Socrates then clearly says that he has proof that death is good. He starts to say that death is a
blessing and there are either two different scenarios of death. The first scenario of death is having no
perception of anything at all and having your soul relocated, like a great dreamless sleep, which in
Socrates eyes is truly a blessing. The second is in which your soul is relocated elsewhere, you are able
to talk to others that have passed like great figures from the past. The alleged inconstancy is clear
between these two arguments. The first argument Socrates states that he does not fear death because
he has no clue what lies beyond. He cannot fear what he does not know of. With both arguments he is
very confident in what he is saying, especially with the second argument claiming that he has proof
that death is good. In the second argument Socrates says that death can be two things and then
proceeds to explain what death is. In that argument, by stating what death is, he is clearly saying that
he has some knowledge about death and is completely contradicting his first

The Use Of Police Force
In today s world, many people dispute over the corruption and lack of respect citizens receive from
police officers on a day to day basis. People claim that police officers mistreat them with an
unnecessary use of force just because of the power they posses over them. Whether its police
corruption or not, people need to first understand what an officer deals with from when he puts on his
uniform to when he takes it off at the end of the night. The four basic responsibilities of the police are
to enforce laws, provide services, prevent crime, and preserve the peace of the people in their
community. It is a police officers job to use his power in protecting the civilians of wherever he or she
is located to serve. At times yes, a police officer ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These types of forces can usually be caused by an ethical dilemma or a term called the blue curtain .
The blue curtain refers to the values shared by police with the belief that the outside world has a
general mistrust with them. This causing an officer to feel the need to protect them selves more then
usual and cause them to take a force of actions that may be to aggressive, but only done for their own
protection. An ethical dilemma situation can be caused by many factors as well, such as: a police
officer not knowing the right course of action to take, having difficulty doing what they consider to be
right, or finding the wrong decision to make very tempting. All of these dilemmas fall under the
categories of discretion, duty, honesty, and loyalty. Another form of police force in a negative way is
called racial profiling. This is the practice of targeting people for police action based solely on their
race, ethnicity, or national origin. Some officers will use their power and force to stop a person
without any reasonable suspicion that he or she has even broken the law only because of profiling. If a
police officer is in the wrong, charges can be held against him for unreasonable use of force. This
would solely be based upon a civil rights violation, which is any interference with a citizen
constitutional right by a civil servant such as a police officer. Police

The War Soviet Expansion Of The United States
Introduction In 1976, with the election of Georgia governor and Washington outsider Jimmy Carter to
the Presidency, the American people could expect that a change was going to come and they were
right. After years of military action attempting to stop Cold War Soviet expansion, first in Vietnam
under Presidents Kennedy, Johnson and Nixon, followed by the quick and possibly unnecessary
bombing of Cambodia by President Ford in response to seizure of the U.S. freighter Mayaguez
(History.com, 2016), Americans were war weary. Thus they welcomed the affable Southern peanut
farmer who promised a foreign policy based on high moral principles and regard for human rights.
Indeed, Carter set the tone with the following statement, during the first year of his (only) term: For
too many years, we ve been willing to adopt the flawed and erroneous principles and tactics of our
adversaries, sometimes abandoning our own values for theirs. We ve fought fire with fire, never
thinking that fire is sometimes best quenched with water. This approach failed, with Vietnam the best
example of its intellectual and moral poverty. But through failure we have now found our way back to
our own principles and values, and we have regained our lost confidence. (Department of State, 2016).
Thus Carter took office believing he had a mandate to conduct foreign policy according to doctrines of
supporting moral values and human rights in our relations with other countries, turning to the military

Implementing The Tax System Classification Rules
On December 17, 1996, the Department of the Treasury (Treasury) finalized rules that were intended
to simplify the tax entity classification rules. These rules have become known as the check the box
regulations. Simply put, these regulations allow an eligible entity to check a box that indicates the
desired tax treatment the entity wishes to have. These new regulations signify what was a much
needed departure from the previous classification regulations, which were vague, ambiguous, and
created many disputes between taxpayers and the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). This simplification
of the entity classification rules would make it easier for such entities to gain their desired tax
treatment, which allows those entities to focus ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These new rules replace the Kintner test, which will be analyzed later in this paper. To fully
understand the effects that CTB rules have on entities tax rates, it is important to understand the
complexities of Regulation 301.7703.
Explanation of Regulation 301.7703 3
As previously mentioned, any business entity that is not required to be treated as a corporation may
choose its own classification. An entity may choose to have all of the beneficial characteristics as a
corporation, but to avoid double taxation, they may choose to be taxed as a partnership. An entity with
two or more members can be classified either as a partnership or as an association, which is taxed as a
corporation. An entity with only one member has an option to be taxed as a corporation or can choose
to be disregarded as an entity separate from its owner. That entity cannot choose partnership
classification because a partnership, by definition, has two or more partners. A disregarded entity is a
business entity with one owner that is not recognized for tax purposes as an entity separate from its
owner. Therefore, the taxpayer is treated as a sole proprietorship and the individual must report all
income and losses on their own tax return.
Foreign business organizations are categorized by default classifications and must elect to be taxed
differently on Form 8832, same as domestic entities. A foreign business entity where all owners have
limited liability will be treated as a

King Lear Masculinity Analysis
King Richard II and King Lear: Lacking the Title of Masculinity King Richard II and King Lear both
illustrate the various forms of how royalty can stray away from the order they are thought to portray.
While both kings do hold the vast title that grants them ultimate power, both kings use this power to
express a lack of masculinity. Although the loss of title is performed at two different parts in each play,
King Richard II and King Lear represent the lack of masculinity within their royal position through
their strong emotional drive and narcissistic tendencies that are expressed through moments of
emotional polarization. Likewise, King Richard II (Richard) and King Lear (Lear) represent their lack
of masculinity in two different forms, one form of hyper masculinity and one of vulnerability, during
the realization of losing their crown. It is often discussed that Richard and Lear can be viewed under
the same lens as they tend to perform with narcissism and emotional drive while under pressure. This
character comparison can be examined while they are unable to portray correct forms of masculinity,
therefore lacking masculinity, in one of the most masculine positions in the world. This theme can be
explored within Richard and Lear while they confess to losing their power. For example, Act 4 scene 1
in Richard II is an accurate demonstration of Richard s lack of masculinity due to the illustration of his
narcissism, emotional drive, and his vulnerability. In 4.1, Richard addresses the loss of his crown to
Bolingbroke for numerous lines. He does not fully surrender the title of the crown until he concludes
expressing his emotional baggage of despair and grievance. This long continuation is important to
note as it can be argued as an example of Richard s narcissism. This narcissism is a subset of Richard
s lack of masculinity, since narcissism entails his self concerns rather than his concerns with his royal
position. Furthermore, Richard s lack of masculinity is expressed after shattering the mirror, stating, A
brittle glory shineth in this face... / ...How soon my sorrow hath destroyed my face (4.1.A133,
4.1.A137). The drama and emotional value that is enhanced in these lines reveal Richard s
vulnerability that

How Is Betrayal Shown In 1984
Betrayal is the breaking or violation of a trust, and often it is seen as an act of disloyalty with
unrecoverable consequences. In the fictional novel 1984, by George Orwell, the author uses betrayal
as a recurring theme which is highlighted throughout the book. The existence of fear causes individual
character s betrayal to the others as the government controls every aspect of the society and destroys
trust among its citizens. It demonstrates that how no amount of love or loyalty to someone could
overcome the Big Brother in the society which the book describes. Through the continuation of this
abnormal society, Winston faces with the ultimate betrayal against himself. In the totalitarian society

into life. Our being selfish is innate, apart of our nature , just like every other animal that fights and

alive, the organism is set into one of three domains: bacteria, archaea, and eukaryotes. The eukarya are
known to have a nucleus and membrane bound organelles. Bacteria are characterized by having a cell

wall that isn t made from peptidoglycan. All of the eukarya are organized into different groups called
taxes or taxis (Anderson). The eight different taxis in order from biggest to smallest are domain,

Caribbean In The 17th Century
Slavery of Caribbean rose affectedly in the later part of the 17th century. The Caribbean requested for
slaves to develop sugarcane and other crops, which all became known as the triangle trade The ships
then traveled to America, where many slaves were exchanged for goods, such as sugar, rum, salt, and
other island products. Ships leaving Europe primarily bunged in Africa, where they traded weapons,
ammunition, metal, liquor, and clothes for hostages taken in wars.
A prediction of eight to fifth teen million Africans extended Americans from the 16th through the 19th
century. Only the freshest and strongest people were acquired for what was called the middle passage
of the triangle trade, partially because they would be significance more in

We Shall Overcome Rhetorical Analysis
Martin Luther King Jr. once said that, Freedom is never voluntarily given by the oppressor; it must be
demanded by the oppressed. During the time period (1850s) in which Frederick Douglass gave a
speech entitled The Hypocrisy of American Slavery, slavery was still a prominent feature of American
society, especially in the Southern States. Douglass, like many others, was an abolitionist, someone
who advocates the abolition or ending of something, such as slavery. Douglass s speech was intended
to shine a light on what he called the hypocritical practice of slavery within the United States of
America. Lyndon B. Johnson on the other hand, was the 36th president of the United States of
America (1963 1969), and he served during a period in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In We Shall Overcome, Johnson also employs pathos when he asserts ...we are met here tonight as
Americans not as Democrats or Republicans. We are met here as Americans to solve that problem. By
using restatement of the phrase we are met here as Americans, Johnson develops the literary device of
pathos by eliciting feelings of patriotism within his audience. The feelings of patriotism in turn call for
compassion based on equality from Johnson s audience. In addition, by saying the term American,
Johnson s audience would be able to realize the nature of the treatment of fellow Americans (African
Americans such as Martin Luther King Jr.) and possibly lead to change. Overall, the application of
pathos by Douglass and Johnson sparks emotions that can lead to societal transformations. Douglass
and Johnson use parallelism, which is the use of components in a sentence that are grammatically the
same, and they also use anaphora, which is the repetition of a word or phrase at the beginning of
successive clauses, to further their arguments to affect change in their communities. For example, in
his speech, Douglass, when speaking about what African Americans do, states ...digging gold in
California, capturing the whale in the Pacific, feeding sheep and cattle on the hillside... which is
parallelism due to the structure of the phrase, beginning with a verb and leading

Decision Making Decision Analysis
In chapter 12, the book offered 7 strategies to improve decision making efforts. These strategies were
broken in to two separate groups, the first three are broad sweeping changes, and the last four are
techniques to improve decisions we are making. Managers are measured on the decisions that they are
making. A good manager will know what it takes to make sound, and reasonable decisions. Decisions
define who we are, and they can have profound effects on others, so we must choose wisely when it
comes to the final result. The first strategy, using decision analysis tools, states that we must rely on
procedures to make decisions. A good example of this would be buying a car, we must weigh the
financial obligations with the need for the new ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is the process of using one or more lessons learned to debias our thought process. Tough
decisions can be made when we are faced with similar problems that have a similar outcome.
Focusing on one problem by itself can lead to us only focusing on one aspect of a decision, and
nothing else. Again, this is a trap, and the more we see, the more we can make informed decisions.
Strategy five is take an outsiders view. This states that an outsiders view tends to be less biased and
more generalized, therefore the decisions are somewhat easier. A good example is when we assume
that we can do something better than the last person, only to be surprised that we cannot. Strategy six
is understand bias in others. It is a fact that as leaders we must work with others that make decisions.
We must analyze past decisions, and try to find better ways to do things in the workplace. Leveraging
things like comparisons, estimation, and prediction can all help make more sound decisions. Strategy
seven is make wiser and more ethical decisions. A simple example of this is when a company forces a
manager to look at capabilities over a stereotype, therefore eliminating any bias toward a specific
person or persons. This can lead to better performing staff, and more work

A Report On Auto Maintenance
When it comes to auto maintenance, your tyres are one of, if not the most, vital components of your
vehicle. You might be thinking, Harjeev, everyone knows this already , and you re not wrong. Yet,
despite this being largely common knowledge amongst drivers, a majority of auto owners across the
world tend to delay or neglect their maintenance altogether. According to TyreSafe s 2015 Tyre Safety
Month study 65% of UK drivers (out of 102,000 tyres they surveyed) needed to check their treads
more often. Not only does regular service and maintenance reduce your service costs, as scheduled
maintenance outweighs large repairs, it impacts your safety. TyreSafe s study painted a potentially
frightening image of UK roads with over a quarter of tyres (27.3%) having an illegal tread depth of
1.6mm or less. That s 10 million tyres in 2015 alone that were potentially illegal! If that didn t catch
your attention, maybe the penalty will. In the UK, you could face a £2500 fine and three penalty
points per illegal tyre on your vehicle! Imagine how much you could have saved when comparing the
price of new tyres against potentially £10000 in fines. Let s delve into why you cannot put off your
tyre care. If you aren t maintaining your tyres, expect to see a decline in your vehicle s braking,
cornering and gas mileage while your CO2 emissions go up. Just think, neglecting your tyres affects
everyone s safety, your wallet and the environment in one fell swoop! Let s pretend that wasn t

Personality Theories
Personality Theories
Almost everyday we describe and assess the personalities of the people around us. Whether we realize
it or not, these daily musings on how and why people behave as they do are similar to what
personality psychologists do. Personality psychology looks at the patterns of thoughts, feelings, and
behavior that make a person unique. Some of the best known theories in psychology are devoted to the
subject of personality.

The psychoanalytic view holds that there are inner forces outside of your awareness that are directing
your behavior. For example, a psychoanalyst might say that James misspoke due to unresolved
feelings for his ex or perhaps because of misgivings about his new relationship.
The founder of psychoanalytic theory was Sigmund Freud. While his theories were considered
shocking at the time and continue to create debate and controversy, his work had a profound influence
on a number of disciplines, including psychology, sociology, anthropology, literature, and art.
The term psychoanalysis is used to refer to many aspects of Freud s work and research, including
Freudian therapy and the research methodology he used to develop his theories. Freud relied heavily
upon his observations and case studies of his patients when he formed his theory of personality
development.
Before we can understand Freud s theory of personality, we must first understand his view of how the
mind is organized.
According to Freud, the mind can be divided into two main parts:
1. The conscious mind includes everything that we are aware of. This is the aspect of our mental
processing that we can think and talk about rationally. A part of this includes our memory, which is not
always part of consciousness but can be retrieved easily at any time and brought into our awareness.
Freud called this ordinary memory the preconscious.
2. The unconscious mind

Mary Shelley s Frankenstein and Ridley Scott s Blade Runner
Comparison and Contrast
Introduction
Mary Shelley s Frankenstein and Ridley Scott s Blade Runner are two story lines created in a different
era, Frankenstein being an early published novel on the creation of an experimental monster that longs
to have a normal existence whilst Blade Runner is a more modern take to a future society where there
have been genetically engineered robots named replicas that are in appearance indistinguishable from
human beings which choose to escape to the planet earth in search of extending their life spans.
The comparison of similarities between the two stories begins with the most simple and obvious being
the creation of as referred in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To contrast the two stories is relatively simple; the two films share forms of differences in era and a
basic human acceptance. Starting with era, Frankenstein is an early production/novel in which
scientifically a creature is created and serves as a warning how something that could prove well in
future can itself turn drastically wrong. This is also shown in the film Blade Runner providing a
simplicity for humans turns wrong with the creation of the replica robots being used as an ease in
which they get sick of and in turn escape to humanity having only a 4 year life span in which they try
to find a way to extend. This is different to Frankenstein s approach choosing instead to learn of
humanity and tries finding a way to be accepted instead of trying to merge and hide in humanity.
The human acceptance between both films is significantly different but in turn not so much,
Frankenstein for example is unaccepted because of his physical appearance and general attitude to the
human community for their reactions against him, whilst the replicas from the film Blade Runner are
accepted as they look and act alike to human beings which from a regular human their differences
would be hard to distinguish. Frankenstein is unaccepted in human

Japanese Geisha Stereotypes
Definition The most common misconception of a female in the geisha occupation is that a geisha is a
prostitute or call girl (Chan, 2001). Geisha are entertainers, these women are vigorously trained in art,
music, and dancing. Geisha translated from Japanese to English means artist (The History and Culture

History and Culture of Japanese Geisha, 2008). If a girl who is pursuing a career as a geisha starts
before she is 21, she is referred to as a maiko, meaning child dancer. A girl or woman can become a

A geisha s career starts with okiya, or geisha house. Some girls are sold to the okiya, others purposely

everything they are told. This stage is known as shikomi (The History and Culture of Japanese Geisha,

geisha in the okiya and help the geisha in getting ready for bed. This girl could be waiting until as late
as two or three in the morning. During this time of working in the okiya, the girls would be attending
Hanamachi geisha school (Dalby, 1998, pg 71). The modern girls pursuing the geisha occupation still

  • 2. Photosynthesis Experiment With Spinach Photosynthesis is the process in which plants use sunlight to create energy. Sunlight gets absorbed into chlorophyll in the plant cells which then convert the light to energy. That energy helps with the process of hydrolysis in breaking CO2 and water down. Through this breaking up, oxygen and glucose are created. Photosynthesis has total of six stages, but those are broken up into two main stages. The first stage is a light dependent reaction, which is when the energy from the sunlight is taken and then converted by the chlorophyll molecules into stored energy. This reaction takes place in the thylakoid membranes in the granum within the chloroplast ( Light Dependent ). In this reaction, there is a transfer of electrons from water to CO2 which begins the creation of the byproduct of oxygen. The sunlight gives a boost of energy to the chlorophyll which gets over the activation barrier and makes the chlorophyll release an electron (Vidyasagar). Chlorophyll molecules trap the light through pigments and absorb ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The test was to see if spinach leaves could go through a short photosynthesis cycle without CO2, light, or both. This was done by using sodium bicarbonate and water to create CO2 in two of the beakers. With two beakers with CO2 and two without CO2, the effect of CO2 on photosynthesis could be observed. Because sunlight is important to photosynthesis, the other part of the experiment was to observe the difference between the spinach disks when exposed to sunlight and the spinach disks when exposed to only darkness. Because of the photosynthetic equation: 6 CO2 + 6 H2O + sunlight → C6H12O6 + 6 O2, changing the light and the CO2 would impact the outcome of the process. This would leave the leaves at the bottom of the beaker as they would not be able to float up without the product of oxygen pushing them ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In most states, family courts determine child custody arrangements based on what is in the best interests of the child. The courts look at a number of factors in making this determination. They look at parents desire and ability to care for the child. They also look at emotional bond between the child and both parents or seeking guardian. Child Custody is when a parent or guardian is granted physical and/or legal custody of a child by court order. There are several types of child custody, but four are focused in this presentation. • 6. Cephalization In Mammals Cephalization is the process of concentration of neural cells within a distinct structure mostly in the anterior region of the body. In mammals this neuronal region is known as CNS which resides in the skull and the vertebral column. Cephalization is the key milestone in the history of evolution it is the key to success for higher animals to survive. Highly developed brains provide agility and complex behavioral strategies which increase the fitness of animals. If we talk about mammals; they originate about 200 million years ago and are the most advanced group of animals. They are also very intelligent and well adaptive creature. Highly developed CNS is responsible for their success. According to Moroz (2009) two hypotheses are given to describe the evolution of the CNS. These are monophyly and polyphyly. According to monophyly all the neuronal cells originated from a single ancestral cell lines. Another hypothesis known as polyphyly, complex brains originated from multiple origins in different animal lineages. In 1830, Geoffroy suggested the homology of ventral and dorsal sides of the vertebrates. In 1994, Arendt et al., repotedted that during the evolution of chordates inversion of the dorso ventral body axis took place and the ventral side of the ancestral arthropods become the dorsal side of the ... It was a battle between two groups of pirates, The Scavengers and The Buccaneers, fighting for the map to treasure. They have been fighting for years in search of this treasure. Starting as soon as the early 2000 s but coming to full steam in 2009, Google s people analytics group initiated a research project, deemed Project Oxygen, to investigate if and how management style would potentially affect employees. Through lengthy data collection, Project Oxygen members discovered that a certain eight management characteristics resulted in a noticeably larger gain in efficiency and overall happiness of subordinates. Google s internal reviews proved exceptionally important, as the culture instilled through the founders is inherently different than other large corporations, as is the relatively flat organization structure. By taking the previously stated eight characteristics, implementing feedback surveys, and providing courses for low scoring areas, Project Oxygen members were able to cultivate improvements in each manager s ability, not only in their Mountain View headquarters, but globally. These improvements were not without hesitations. Nevertheless, the results and implementation of Project Oxygen resulted in drastic increases in the overall management rating. Thoreau and King s philosophy of disobeying unjust laws that were created without the consent of the general public could have greatly benefitted the mother from Julie Otsuka s novel When the Emperor was Divine. Ultimately, if the mother used this technique of disobeying an immoral law, she could have fought against the devastating injustice of internment which led to her as well as other Japanese Americans to have negative psychological effects as a result of racism and marginalization. King s teachings could have positively impacted the mother as he advocated for disobeying a law that dehumanizes an ethnic group, especially if the group had no say in the enactment of the law. The government s degradation of Japanese Americans had negative consequences on the mother as she attempted to hide her Japanese identity, but King s principles could have helped the mother realize the unfairness of the passing of the government s policies which would lead to her combating its racism. In King s letter, he makes evident the differences between moral and unjust laws. He explains his logic for breaking the law as he felt he had no choice in the creation of the laws which targeted African Americans and kept them inferior. Both the book and the film did a great job of portraying Ron s childhood in Massapequa, Long Island. From the little league games to playing war in the woods, leading charges and setting ambushes. This was especially well done in the movie, and exactly as I pictured them while reading the book. The time that he spent in Mexico was well defined in the book as well as in the film. His parents were also a lot more concerned with him going in the film than they were in the book, especially his mother. While in the book Kovic makes it extremely clear that the most influential reason for him joining the Marines was because of the movies he saw as a boy, specifically the Sands of Iwo Jima and To Hell and Back . He loved the way that Hollywood had glamorized the battles and the wars. When he thought of war that was what he thought about, John Wayne making a stand, taking out Japs and Nazi s with quick shots from the hip, all these things. No innocent people were hurt, the hero always came home and that hero was loved and applauded when he got there. What Kovic found out was that these ideas were indeed influenced by Hollywood. The hero seldom comes home, and during these times he was not greeted by screaming fans but by hippies that protested his involvement. It also seemed that the film did not do a great job of portraying the deplorable conditions of the veteran s hospitals. Sure they showed some of the crude parts, but for the amount of the book that was dedicated to exposing what was going on in the VA hospitals the film did not seem to express it. Positive Aspects to Leagalizing Marijuana ENC1101 14 February 2013 The Positive Effects of Legalizing Marijuana The word marijuana has been a concerned topic in almost every American home today. Marijuana, whose botanical name is cannabis, has been used by humans for thousands of years. It was classified as an illegal drug by many countries in the 20th century. Over the past two decades, there has been a growing movement to legalize marijuana, primarily for medical purposes. Opposing views on the subject of decriminalizing the plant has caused much controversy over the past twenty years and still remains an important issue. Among its other legal drug counterparts, marijuana is by far the least physically harmful. Cigarettes, alcohol, tobacco, prescription painkillers, and even sleep aids are all highly addictive, and all can lead to death. Even Tylenol is so damaging that Vicodin and Percocet are being considered to be illegalized because of the Tylenol, not the opiates, in them. Marijuana has been shown to be effective in reducing the nausea induced by cancer chemotherapy, stimulating appetite in AIDS patients, and reducing intraocular pressure in people with glaucoma. There is also appreciable evidence that marijuana reduces muscle spasticity in patients with neurological disorders. A synthetic capsule is available by prescription, but it is not as effective as smoked marijuana for many patients (Alliance). In 1972, the US Congress placed marijuana in Schedule I of the Controlled Substances Act because they considered it to have no accepted medical use. Since then, 17 of 50 US states and DC have legalized the medical use of marijuana. The Second Amendment And The Fourteenth Amendment Essay Out of the Twenty Seven Amendments in the American Constitution, the first ten known as the Bill of Rights, are arguably the most important to the American people. With the exception of the thirteenth and the fourteenth Amendments abolishing slavery and making ever persons born or naturalized in the United States a wholesome member of the United States and under the protection of the Constitution. It is a like a double edged sword sometimes when dealing with criminals and their illegitimate activity. Even though they are criminals and what they are doing is breaking the law, they too have rights that protect them from the government and their grasp. All of the cases that are brought before the Supreme Court for another look at the case are because the defendant believes their rights have been violated. When areas of rainforests are destroyed, it s not just the trees that disappear. It s time for the government to take action on deforestation. Rainforests are an important location for indigenous people and animals because that s where their home belongs. Yet the government and organizations ignore those facts and just demolish their homes in order to gain a new location for productions. It s a topic that s constantly debated in politics and society should take a recognition on what s happening in deforestation. More than half of the world s rainforests are destroyed and is in danger by humans, therefore, the government shouldn t allow deforestation anymore in order to save the remaining rainforests in the environment because it affects habitats, species, and indigenous people. Loss of habitats is an evident threat in the rainforest as the facilities continue to form new funds to buildings and resources. In deforestation, people can profit and revenue on the resources to inhibit for society to use. They profit on the resources they sell to other countries after they obtain the sources they received from the rainforests. Socrates, being known for stirring up arguments amongst the city s wisest men, grew widely unpopular in the community. This unpopularity, and many other troubles led Socrates to be accused and sentenced to trial for corrupting the youth, and of not believing in the Gods of the city. During Socrates trial, he brings up arguments about why we should not fear death, just as he does not. In this essay I will cover Socrates two arguments about death, their inconsistencies, and explain why Socrates changed his position about death towards the end of the trial. The second is in which your soul is relocated elsewhere, you are able to talk to others that have passed like great figures from the past. The alleged inconstancy is clear between these two arguments. The first argument Socrates states that he does not fear death because he has no clue what lies beyond. He cannot fear what he does not know of. With both arguments he is very confident in what he is saying, especially with the second argument claiming that he has proof that death is good. People claim that police officers mistreat them with an unnecessary use of force just because of the power they posses over them. Whether its police corruption or not, people need to first understand what an officer deals with from when he puts on his uniform to when he takes it off at the end of the night. The four basic responsibilities of the police are to enforce laws, provide services, prevent crime, and preserve the peace of the people in their community. An ethical dilemma situation can be caused by many factors as well, such as: a police officer not knowing the right course of action to take, having difficulty doing what they consider to be right, or finding the wrong decision to make very tempting. All of these dilemmas fall under the categories of discretion, duty, honesty, and loyalty. Another form of police force in a negative way is called racial profiling. This is the practice of targeting people for police action based solely on their race, ethnicity, or national origin. Some officers will use their power and force to stop a person without any reasonable suspicion that he or she has even broken the law only because of profiling. The War Soviet Expansion Of The United States Introduction In 1976, with the election of Georgia governor and Washington outsider Jimmy Carter to the Presidency, the American people could expect that a change was going to come and they were right. After years of military action attempting to stop Cold War Soviet expansion, first in Vietnam under Presidents Kennedy, Johnson and Nixon, followed by the quick and possibly unnecessary bombing of Cambodia by President Ford in response to seizure of the U.S. freighter Mayaguez (History.com, 2016), Americans were war weary. Thus they welcomed the affable Southern peanut farmer who promised a foreign policy based on high moral principles and regard for human rights. Indeed, Carter set the tone with the following statement, during the first year of his (only) term: For too many years, we ve been willing to adopt the flawed and erroneous principles and tactics of our adversaries, sometimes abandoning our own values for theirs. We ve fought fire with fire, never thinking that fire is sometimes best quenched with water. This approach failed, with Vietnam the best example of its intellectual and moral poverty. But through failure we have now found our way back to our own principles and values, and we have regained our lost confidence. (Department of State, 2016). An entity may choose to have all of the beneficial characteristics as a corporation, but to avoid double taxation, they may choose to be taxed as a partnership. An entity with two or more members can be classified either as a partnership or as an association, which is taxed as a corporation. An entity with only one member has an option to be taxed as a corporation or can choose to be disregarded as an entity separate from its owner. That entity cannot choose partnership classification because a partnership, by definition, has two or more partners. A disregarded entity is a business entity with one owner that is not recognized for tax purposes as an entity separate from its owner. Therefore, the taxpayer is treated as a sole proprietorship and the individual must report all income and losses on their own tax return. • 36. King Lear Masculinity Analysis King Richard II and King Lear: Lacking the Title of Masculinity King Richard II and King Lear both illustrate the various forms of how royalty can stray away from the order they are thought to portray. While both kings do hold the vast title that grants them ultimate power, both kings use this power to express a lack of masculinity. Although the loss of title is performed at two different parts in each play, King Richard II and King Lear represent the lack of masculinity within their royal position through their strong emotional drive and narcissistic tendencies that are expressed through moments of emotional polarization. Likewise, King Richard II (Richard) and King Lear (Lear) represent their lack of masculinity in two different forms, one form of hyper masculinity and one of vulnerability, during the realization of losing their crown. It is often discussed that Richard and Lear can be viewed under the same lens as they tend to perform with narcissism and emotional drive while under pressure. This character comparison can be examined while they are unable to portray correct forms of masculinity, therefore lacking masculinity, in one of the most masculine positions in the world. This theme can be explored within Richard and Lear while they confess to losing their power. For example, Act 4 scene 1 in Richard II is an accurate demonstration of Richard s lack of masculinity due to the illustration of his narcissism, emotional drive, and his vulnerability. In 4.1, Richard addresses the loss of his crown to Bolingbroke for numerous lines. He does not fully surrender the title of the crown until he concludes expressing his emotional baggage of despair and grievance. This long continuation is important to note as it can be argued as an example of Richard s narcissism. This narcissism is a subset of Richard s lack of masculinity, since narcissism entails his self concerns rather than his concerns with his royal position. Furthermore, Richard s lack of masculinity is expressed after shattering the mirror, stating, A brittle glory shineth in this face... / ...How soon my sorrow hath destroyed my face (4.1.A133, 4.1.A137). Decisions define who we are, and they can have profound effects on others, so we must choose wisely when it comes to the final result. Strategy five is take an outsiders view. This states that an outsiders view tends to be less biased and more generalized, therefore the decisions are somewhat easier.
