Freudian Psychoanalysis As The Forerunner Of All...
Reading response 3
Jones and Butman (2012) view psychoanalysis as the forerunner of all psychotherapeutic methods.
Freudian psychoanalysis theorizes that all human behavior is influenced by early childhood
experiences. Freud argues that human behavior is mostly unconscious and driven by conflicting
desires, feelings, fears, and motives. The goal of psychoanalysis is to resolve intrapsychic conflict
by bringing into conscious awareness the unconscious desires and motives of an individual.
Through free association, the unconscious is made conscious, and unresolved conflict or anxiety is
resolved. Psychoanalysis also seeks to challenge self defeating coping methods or defense
mechanisms and aims to replace the negative coping methods with more effective coping
mechanism (Jones Butman, 2012) Freud s model of personality posits that:
1.There are three levels of consciousness: the conscious experiences, the preconscious experiences,
and unconscious experiences, however, all behavior is determined by unconscious experiences.
2.Human Behavior is determined by past unresolved events from childhood.
3.Human behavior is determined by the interaction of sexual and aggressive drives.
4.Personality is structured in terms the id, ego and superego. The id is pleasure driven, and seeks
to satisfy its needs. The ego is reality based and fulfills the wishes and demands of the id in the
outside world. The superego, a split off from the ego, characterizes internalized values and moral

American Transcendentalist Writers Essay
Following the influx of the puritanical style of writing in America during the 17th Century by the
Founding Fathers, it could be said that what we now know as the collective `American writing was
once created almost as an effort to distance its own style from that of other European styles.
Perhaps not being incredibly popular outside their own circle of influence, writers such as Ralph
Waldo Emerson and other Transcendentalists began, in the 19th Century, to weave a new form of
writing using philosophy as the `vehicle of thought . While this allowed them to explore new and
untouched areas in the mind, it also greatly influenced many later writers from Henry Thoreau to
the more `popular and recent Mark Twain.
Let us begin with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although some critics may treat Walden as simply a text on the love of nature, Thoreau s message,
and indeed philosophy, seems to lay deeper. Although he never openly criticises the state of
America, there are certainly references to suggest that this text is somewhat a social
commentary or criticism of the society in which he lived. For example he suggests `Better if
[men] had been born in the open pasture and suckled by a wolf, that they might have clearer eyes
what field they were called to labour in . Through this extract, and indeed through much of the
text, we can see that Thoreau uses the image of nature to suggest his own ideal of society. It
seems that by isolating himself from civilisation, he begins to understand himself through self
realisation and thus establishes his own identity. From the question, `Why should they begin
digging their own graves as soon as they are born? , we learn a little of Thoreau s philosophy on
life: he disagrees with the collective identity of the increasingly capitalist America in which he
lives, asking why should we passively comply with a capitalist machine?
Similar to the way in which Thoreau isolated himself from civilisation, poet Emily Dickinson also
attempted to question the values of this new society in which she lived, except this time from
within the seclusion of her own home in Massachusetts.
Clearly Dickinson s poetry was far from anything the American public had

Dying From Cancer Argumentative Essay
Cancer: The search that isn t hopeless but also not realistic Sitting across from the doctor s desk,
listening to him say the last three words no one ever imagined. You have cancer. The hard plastic
chair and the atmosphere in the room suddenly feel colder as your body and mind go still. The
doctor rambles on about the state of the condition, but nothing is absorbed. There is only one thing
that needs answering. Is this curable? Cancer is a truly devastating verdict to be given and
something no one is ready for. Every city, state, country, and continent in the world experiences
great loss due to deaths from cancer. It does not discriminate between men and women, young or

Plutarch On Sparta Book Report
On Sparta by Plutarch was an outstanding and marvelous book concerning the revered Sparta of
ancient Greece and the customs of the city state. When obtaining the book the expectation was that
the book was going to be a historical telling of the events concerning the military city state that was
Sparta of ancient Greece. The expectations and some more were met with an outstanding amount of
depictive information provided by the author. Plutarchs book On Sparta informs the reader of the
achievements and the characteristics of Sparta with an elegance that is unmatchable. Plutarch s

Plutarch s image of the Lawgiver Lycurgus is that of a man who is willing to relinquish absolute
power out of appreciation of justice. This image is captured in the book when Lycurgus gives up
his kingship after discovering that his brother s wife was pregnant (Plutarch, 2005, p. 4). Plutarch
goes on to describe the travels of Lycurgus after leaving Sparta and then focuses on the reforms or
innovations that he put in place in Sparta after his return. The first of the innovations by Lycurgus
was the creation of the Elders. Plutarch explains that Lycurgus s Elders were a stability group to
keep balance between the king and people (Plutarch, 2005, p. 8). The second of Lycurgus s

Rhetorical Speech In Tamburlaine The King By William...

orn only two months before Shakespeare and dead before he was thirty, Christopher Marlowe,
considered to be the first English tragic poet, began and ended his literary work while Shakespeare
was still at the beginning. His earliest tragedy, Tamburlaine the Great, was a path opener for the
possibilities of Elizabethan tragedy. It was followed by other three tragedies, Dr Faustus, The Jew of
Malta, and Edward II. In the prologue to his first piece, Tamburlaine, the playwright announced his
intention to use in tragedy high astounding terms. Arrogantly, he denounced the jigging veins of
rhyming mother wits who had previously been devoted to tragedy.

The Technological Evolution Of The Media Industry
The technological evolution has played an inevitable and indispensable role in changing the facade
of the world. In particular, recent developments and innovations in the field of science and
technology have transformed the entire paradigm of media industry. It has been established that in
the contemporary or technology driven media environment, the traditional concept of ownership,
intellectual property, as well as copyrighthas become a controversial point (Sutherland Smith, 2015).
It is due to the fact that the technological advancements have created such practices that have
completely redefined the ways in which media was being consumed by the audiences. Most

High tech media tools and platforms have superficially changed the way in which people used to
consume media. It has been established that the recent technological advancements have played a
significant role in building entirely new and unique media environment. In accordance with the
views of Bird (2011), the new current contemporary age of information and technology has
substantially enabled the individuals to actively contribute and consume the media sources. It is
significant to bring into the notice that such practices were impractical to be attained by the
consumers, in the past years. Before the emergence of internet as well as web 2.0 technologies, the
communication, distribution, and creation of ideas was generally aided by the corporate
middlemen . It is due to the fact that it was quite difficult and impossible (to some extent) for the
average person to coordinate in a free and independent manner. However, the evolution and
development of contemporary and higher innovative web applications had changed the entire
facade of the media consumption trends. In this account, it has been assessed that the web based
applications and state of the art technologies have completely democratised this process (Muir,
2013). It is because; by using these technologies, the users can easily participate in the consumption

Book Of Job Rhetorical Analysis
The Book of Job opens with a description of Job, a blameless and upright man who is faithful to
God and adheres to His commandments. Satan suggests that the only reason Job is faithful to God
is because God has blessed him with only good things in his life; Job has never had to experience
tremendous pain or sufferingthus far. In response to this, Godallows Satanto take away Job s
possessions, to kill his children, and to inflict bodily harm to him in an attempt to get Job to turn
on God. After all these horrible things happen, Job still refuses to curse God s name. Instead, Job
begins to curse the things around him, questioning why he was ever born in the first place and
wondering why God is allowing this to happen. In Job 40 42, God asks Job a series of rhetorical

However, this idea of measure for measure did not explain the injustices and bad things
happening to good people that the Rabbis saw in their everyday lives. One of the most accepted
explanations for this seeming inconsistency is that there is life beyond the grave which gives a
distinct experience that must be taken into consideration (Cohen 116). Additionally, Rabbi Mier
s line, And I will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, although he may not deserve it, And I
will show mercy on whom I will show mercy, although he may not deserve it, sums up the idea
that God sometimes acts in mysterious ways that are above human reasoning (Blackboard).
Similarly, a writing from Rabbi Joseph addresses how good people can pass away before their
time comes. Once again, the Rabbi suggests that tragic things like this are a part of life and
explains how one must have faith that God s plan will all work out in the end

Interconnectedness In Let The Great World Spin By Colum...
Let the Great World Spin, demonstrates throughout how each of our lives are connected to each
other all around the world whether we live in the same city or miles apart, whether we know
each other or if we are strangers. Everything overlaps and affects everyone in the world in some
way. This interconnectedness that is displayed throughout the novel is a huge theme and point
that many might miss upon reading this novel. Colum McCann, the author of Let the Great
World Spin, developed a intricate connectedness in the lives of each of his characters in the
novel, it is through this that he unites his characters together either physically and mentally. By
doing this, the author develops an idea that two or more very different life paths can cross and
become intertwined with one another in a way that can change the direction of someone s life;
in other words, the people around us, even strangers, can in some way, meaningfully influence
us on accident without even knowing it. One person s decision has many unknown and known
effects. First example of how the author uses connectedness as the point of this novel is how
Ciaran and Lara end up getting married later in the novel. At the beginning of the novel neither
of the two characters know anything about the other s existence until the car crash that ends
Ciaran s brothers life that Lara and her ex husband, Blaine, were involved in. It is through their
grief that they get to know each other and learn to forgive themselves and learn to move on. Had
not Lara and Blaine not been the ones involved in the accident as far as we know, Ciaran and
Lara would not have met nor ever gotten married. A second example of the the connection
between characters is the connection Gloria and Claire share between each other, which leads to
Gloria and Jaslyn s connection in addition to Jaslyn and Claire s connection after Gloria dies.
Gloria and Claire s connection begins with the deaths of their sons in the Vietnam War. Their
connections spreads across a delicate and painful time and space as results of both having to deal
and cope with the tragic events with their sons and having it change their lives as they know it.
Both women are in a support group with other women who are also

While Bach s musical career centered around Germany, Antonio Vivaldiwas the son of a

a virtuoso violinist and composer whose works included over 500 concertos.
Vivaldi s output was enormous. It is said that he invented ritornello form. If he did not invent
this, he was the first to use this technique. In 1703, Vivaldi began an on and off relationship with

Vivaldi remained working this post for much of his life. He did, however, take leave to compose
many of his famous operas such as Ottone in villa, his first opera.

7New Approaches and Education for the Success of Decentralized Wastewater Treatment Systems
There is a common thinking in the academia and professional arenas that the solution to the
untreated wastewater discharges into our water bodies can be prevented or mitigated mainly with
the construction of wastewater sewer collection systems and wastewater treatment plants. Part of the
purpose of this research is to revisit and analyze the benefits of using decentralized wastewater
treatment technologies and evaluate the latest wastewater treatment technologies available.
7.1Overview of Centralized Wastewater Treatment Systems Infrastructure
It is also of common knowledge that our nation s wastewater treatment infrastructure is widely
recognized to be in serious overhaul, if not outright replacement. (Crawford 2011). Also it is known
that wastewater management does not figure among the environmental legal and regulatory matters
that command public attention, despite the direct human and environmental health impacts of
wastewater infrastructure failures, to say nothing of the unsavory nature of ruptured sewage lines
and massive sewage spills, with their attendant harms for both land and water pollution (Crawford
2011). This is due to a lack of knowledge and education to the public concerning this serious threat.
A serious national wastewater treatment crisis is imminent. The need to address our wastewater
infrastructure deficiencies is urgent and not only for the centralized

Human red blood cells (6 8Ојm)
Red blood cells (also referred to as erythrocytes) are the most common type of blood cell and the
vertebrateorganism s principal means of delivering oxygen (O2) to the body tissues via the blood

These cells cytoplasm is rich in hemoglobin, an iron containing biomolecule that can bind oxygen

In humans, mature red blood cells are flexible biconcave disks that lack a cell nucleus and most

Membrane composition
The membrane of the red blood cell plays many roles that aid in regulating their surface
deformability, flexibility, adhesion to other cells and immune recognition. These functions are
highly dependent on its composition, which defines its properties. The red blood cell membrane is
composed of 3 layers: the glycocalyx on the exterior, which is rich in carbohydrates; the lipid
bilayer which contains many transmembrane proteins, besides its lipidic main constituents; and the
membrane skeleton, a structural network of proteins located on the inner surface of the lipid
bilayer. In human erythrocytes, like in most mammal erythrocytes, half of the membrane mass is
represented by proteins and the other half are lipids, namely phospholipids and cholesterol.[29]

The erythrocyte cell membrane comprises a typical lipid bilayer, similar to what can be found in
virtually all human cells. Simply put, this lipid bilayer is composed of cholesterol andphospholipids
in equal proportions by weight. The lipid composition is important as it defines many physical
properties such as membrane permeability and fluidity. Additionally, the activity of many
membrane proteins is regulated by interactions with lipids in the bilayer.

are being pulled towards the earth, however the moon, unlike the apple isn t crashing into our
home planet. The moon is moving sideways so quickly that it s missing our planet completely
which is what is keeping it in orbit. Next time I get pulled over, I m going to have to tell the
police officer, that if the moon speeds to avoiding crashing into something on earth, so am I.
Newton realized that however this gravitational force worked, any other object with mass would
probably behave the exact same way, whether it be another planet, the sun, or you falling into bed
after a long day. Newton s Law of Gravitation directly states any two bodies attract each other with
a force that is directly proportional to the product of their masses and inversely proportional to the
square of the distance between them. Wow, that s a mouthful. Leave it to the professionals. All we
need to know is what goes up must come down, and yes that includes that missing balloon from
your fifth birthday. Newton s scientific revolution changed the way people thought about the world.

What can we know?

PHI208: Ethics and Moral Reasoning (GTP1306D)
Michele Clearman Warner

Epistemology or theory of knowledge is a branch of philosophy related to the scope and nature of
knowledge. The subject focuses on examining the nature of knowledge, and how it relates to
beliefs, justification, and truth. Epistemology contract with the means of production of knowledge,
as well as skepticism about different knowledge claims. Epistemology is the philosophical
investigation into this question: What can we know? The question, at first, seems pretty simple: It
seems pretty obvious that I know that 3+5+8, that the sun will rise tomorrow and that my chances
of winning the lottery aren t very good. I also know ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The school is best understood as the product of two movements in ancient Greek philosophy.
Skepticism can be attributed to Socrates and to Plato s successors at The Academy in Athens (5th
to 2nd century BC). Pyrrhonism can be traced back to Pyrrho of Ellis(365 275 BC). Skepticism
can be found in many other schools of ancient philosophy from Heraclitus to Cyrenaics and the
Cynics
Socrates was placed at the origins of Skepticism. It was understood that he only asked questions and
never taught positive doctrines, many sought to attempt to make sense of his seemingly
paradoxical claim that the one thing he knew was that he knew nothing. (Gascoigne, 2002) Plato
and Aristotle strayed from Socrates path when they claimed to know the truth. Plato viewed
knowledge as an awareness of absolute and existing independent of any subject trying to apprehend
to the philosophers. Though, Aristotle put more emphasis on logical and empirical methods for
gathering knowledge. Aristotle still accepts the view of such knowledge is an apprehension of
necessary principles. Around the Renaissance period, the two main epistemological positions
dominated in philosophy are empiricism, in which sees knowledge as the product of sensory
perception, and rationalism sees epistemology as the product of rational reflection (Tempo).
Another philosopher by the name of Arcesilaus, gave a renewed form of skepticism, arguing
against the opinions of all men. Arcesilaus also claimed that skeptics could make

Everyone was wrong. I blamed for everything happened in my life. I was feeling like a

in the room to keep myself away from everyone because I thought that is the best way out.
Yes, life can be so cruel and unfair. But, at some points, it taught me to be a strong person and to
understand the process I went through. With my dad as my role model in life, I have learnt

Alcohol on College Campuses
Did you know 82 92% of college students consume alcohol? (Taylor) Did you drink while in
college? Do you agree with alcohol on college campuses or do you disagree? Why? Restricting
alcohol consumption on campuses sometimes is used to prevent alcohol abuse and alcohol
related problems. Dry campus policies, however, remain misunderstood. According to Dexter M.

trends on wet college campuses (Taylor). Alcohol related problems that occur on college

In our contemporary society, pornography verses propriety has been a topic of debate for
decades. Fortunately, child pornography is consistently labeled as obscene and possession of this
type of pornography is criminal. The Communications Decency Act (CDA) was signed into law in

the knowledge that obscene or indecent messages were being transmitted to recipients under 18

Temperance Movement In The Great Gatsby
Marisol Perez
Mr. Chadwick
AP English Language and Composition
June 9th, 2017 For America, the 1920 s was a time of economic prosperity, and political and social
changes. The growth of cities, consumer buying, and fashion changes were some of the key
changes and developments during this time. Everyone wanted to achieve the American Dream.
They were to achieve this dream no matter what they had to go through, whether it be illegal or not.
The Temperance Movement took place during this era and many citizens were upset with the
government and disagreed with the prohibition. The Temperance Movement was the prohibition of
alcohol by the government. It banned the buying, selling and the consumption of any type of
alcohol. Many women began to abandon the long and conservative dresses; They wore short,
revealing dresses with long necklaces and they had the classic bobbed hairstyle. The Great Gatsby
by F. Scott Fitzgerald is about the relationships between the main characters: Nick Carraway, Daisy
and Tom Buchanan, and Jay Gatsby. It is set in New York during the Roaring 20s . The Great
Gatsby incorporated the aspects of the 1920s by including the effects of the idea of American
Dream, the rich and careless lives of its citizens during the Temperance movements and the
emergence of women s more sexual and independent in society.
The American Dream was a very important aspect in the 1920s. To the immigrants and the
citizens, it meant that they had an equal opportunity to achieve success and prosperity with
hardwork and dedication, despite their upbringing. In the Great Gatsby, Jay Gatsby represented
the American Dream of self made wealth and happiness. Jay Gatsby was legally named James
Gatz and he changed it at the age of seventeen and at the specific moment that witnessed the
beginning of his career (Fitzgerald 98). He invented the name Jay Gatsby and a new life of glory
and riches. His parents were shiftless and unsuccessful farmers who could not afford anything
from his imagination. He imagined an elegant life with a big house, throwing big parties with the
woman of his dreams. This was the American Dream and he wasn t going to stop working until
his goal was achieved. From a young age, Gatsby was eager to

The Roman Colosseum Of Rome
When I ask you to imagine Italy and all the vast architecture, what do picture? I am going to
assume you would picture colosseums. The piece of art I chose to research was the granddaddy of
them all, the Roman Colosseum. This is potentially the most famous monument to survive the
classical period. Today, the Colosseumis one of Rome s most popular tourist attractions, attracting
millions of visitors every year. This massive amphitheater is located in the center of Rome, Italy.
During ancient roman times these massive amphitheaters were commonly placed around cities.
Eventually there were well over 250 amphitheaters in the Roman empire(Hopkins). However, no
other amphitheater competes in size. What sparked the want to build such a massive
amphitheater? Why is this so important? Years prior to the construction of the Colosseum,
Rome was dealing with a massive civil war which destroyed the city. At the time of construction,
Rome s emperor was Vespasian s and his decision to build the Colosseum on the site of Nero s
lake can be seen as a gesture of returning a part of the city to the people which emperor Nero had
appropriated for his own use (Roman Colosseum History). However, Vespasian never saw the
completion of his Colosseum due to his untimely death. His son, Titus would go on to open the
Colosseum to the public in AD 80. The Colosseum remained in service for 450 years. The
Colosseum is also known as The Flavian Amphitheatre(Roman). The Colosseum had seating for

The Process Of Survival In Hatchet By Gary Paulsen
The process of survival is a basis laid upon many significant factors and it can become an
educational experience in which an individual may learn the skill of independent thinking and will
inevitably gain new insights into themselves. These ideas are considered throughout the
contemporary novel, Hatchet, by Gary Paulsenin which the protagonist, Brian, undertakes
tremendous trials. Through their experiences, the protagonist obtains further knowledgeabout
himself, others, and the world.
Through addressing barriers that have been thrust upon them, an individual will learn how to cope
with struggles in everyday life and gain increased knowledge about themselves. Hatchet is a novel
about a young city boy whose plane crashes in the Canadian wilderness while he is on his way to
see his father. All he has is a hatchet and a desperate will to survive. Your emotional state is very
important to how you act and this is evident when Brian was attempting to spear a fool bird. The
quote: They exasperated him to the point where they were driving him insane is a hyperbole that
demonstrates to what degree Brian is being challenged which teaches him better determination and
resilience. This is further reiterated in the quote: In the roaring plane with no pilot, he was alone.
Alone. which shows up in the text just before Brian crashes. This personification and repetition
teaches Brian about perseverance and the ability to be alone. This is also an example of truncated
sentences that

Guideline 4: Avoid Mixed, of Double Messages
Leonora needs to mitigate criticizing Joshua on how his income doesn t cover the monthly
expenses. She should demonstrate that if she returned to work, the financial burden would be
reduced.
Joshua s perspective on day care should be emphasized because it will produce an unnecessary
expense. Furthermore, a large part of their income would result in the consumption of day care.
Guideline 5: When You Can, Choose the Timeand Place Carefully
Lenora and Joshua should set time aside to discuss their conflict instead of randomly arguing over
the same issues. By doing this, it gives each other time to put thoughts together instead of saying
something that they don t mean or is derogatory.
Guideline 6: Address a Specific Issue, Ask for a Specific Change, and Be Open to Compromise
Lenora needs to express her desire to go back to work because it will benefit both Christa and the
family. But at the same time, Lenora should consider the affect it will have on her when she goes

impressive, but in 2007 the iPhone was something to get excited about, as it was the only phone
at the time to have a touch screen display compared to the sea of plastic sliding phones such as

Art Museum Reflection Paper
Before visiting the Seattle Art Museum (SAM) to observe and analyze the art covered in class, I
made sure to read the museum s mission statement. That way, it would be in my mind as I walked
through the halls and moved from gallery to gallery and I could revisit it afterward. According to
Seattle Art Museum s executive summary and strategic plan for 2014 2017, the museum s mission
is a simple one: to connect art to life. Through art, the Seattle Art Museum enriches lives and
engages diverse communities. As the leading visual art institution in the Pacific Northwest, SAM
draws on its global collections, powerful exhibitions, and dynamic programs to provide unique
educational resources benefiting the Seattle region, the Pacific Northwest, and beyond (Seattle Art
Museum). Regarding the fact that I am writing this now and had the opportunity to observe and
research many works of art proves their mission to be successful. Walking into the museum, I
noticed that it already appeared to be much bigger on the inside than it did on the outside. The first
two floors were lit mostly by natural light and provided museum visitors access to tickets,
information about the museum, the gift shop, and some food. The remaining floors were dimmer
and mostly just the art pieces were given light to eliminate distraction. The American, Native
American, and modern/contemporary art was displayed on the third floor while the African,
European, and Mediterranean art was found on the top floor. The three art pieces that interested me
the most were all found on the third floor in mostly the modern and contemporary art section. To,
help uncover the power of detail behind the artwork, I chose three pieces corresponding to abstract
and abstract expressionismfrom artists Jackson Pollock, Josef Albers, and Eva Hesse to research and
truly analyze.
The first powerful example of abstract art and in this case, abstract expressionism, comes from
Jackson Pollock. Paul Jackson Pollock was born in Cody, Wyoming, in 1912, to a family with
four other sons. When Pollock was nine years old, his father abandoned the family and returned

If the body is disfigured in any way you may be required to do some restorative procedures on the
body, using materials such as clay, cotton, plaster of Paris and wax

would use a picture of the deceased and try to make them appear as life like as possible for the

The decades after the Civil War rapidly changed the face of the United States. The rapid

the world. Business tycoons thrived during this time, forging great business empires with the use
of trusts and pools. Farmers moved to the cities and into the factories, living off wages and
changing the face of the workforce. This rapid industrialization created wide gaps in society, and
the government, which had originally taken a hands off approach to business, was forced to step in.

The federal government also aided in the development of a transcontinental railroad by offering
compensation and land for each mile that Railroad companies built. Because of this, the United
States was quickly brought together from east to west by the railroad. Time zones were
implemented because the railroads needed a standard time to go by, a prime example of the
power of change that industry possessed. Steel sprung up as a major industry in the late 19th

aiding in the trend of urbanization. The steel industry flourished and in 1901 the United States
Steel Corporation was worth over $1.4 billion, the country s first billion dollar corporation. The oil

Summary Of The TV Show Stranger Things
This article discusses the TV show Stranger Things by intertwining the idea of childhood freedom
within it. The show portrays a bunch of kids biking around town unsupervised and solving
mysteries and saving the town. The author, Anna North, then uses this notion to discuss how
nowadays the idea of unstructured childhoodis almost nonexistent and that parents are involved in
everything due to cell phones, fear of childmolesters and a move towards more parental
involvement. North also gives two other examples, The Chronicles of Narnia and Muppet Babies ,
where the parents are absent and the kids got to run wild and involve themselves in mysterious/fun
activities. This given freedom gave the children a chance to explore their own... Show more content

It is like a walk down memory lane when the author describes how children were allowed to roam
around everywhere in the 1980 s. The diction used in this article clearly shows two opposing sides
a controlling side and a carefree side. The controlling side is brought into light when the author used
phrases like helicopter parent . And the carefree side is seen when North uses phrases such as
unsupervised , permissive and unstructured . This article is very well written as it is infused with
both fact and fictional details and evidence.
The content of this article was refreshing to read. I agree with the concept of it but disagree with
the details. In the the seventh paragraph North points out that unstructured childhood seems less
possible due to all the cell phones and the fear of child molesters. This was a very weak
argument and one that wasn t researched very well. Cell phones have nothing to do with more
structured parenting in fact they give children more freedom since parents can now reach their
children wherever they are and check in on them. The fear of child molesters is very
downplayed in this article. This article in a sense completely romanticized the 1980 s. The
number of child molestations that occurred during the 80 s is almost 15% higher than it does
now. This is most likely due to the fact that kids in the 80 s were allowed to go places without
parental supervision which usually led to dangerous circumstances. The point I m trying to make
is that parents became more involved in their children s daily activity not because they want to but
because they have to. The world is not a safe place for children to grow and experience on their

My True Friend

acquainted with each other when we were in the fourth grade. She was the funniest, caring, and
most protective person I have ever meet and these three traits were what made her a friend like no

First, Jasmine was my rather adorable, brown skinned, curly haired best friend since we were in

one s eyes after just one glance, and had a sense of humor like no other. Both pupils and teachers
alike enjoyed her company and liveliness. There was hardly ever a dull moment when she was
around with her funny quips and expressions. For example, whenever she would tell a joke, there
wouldn t be a dried eye left in the room.
Next, Jasmine has a very amiable personality and I learned that in the when we were in the fifth
grade. She was always there for me through good times and especially bad times. For example,
there was this one time when I went to school and I forgot to ask my mom for lunch money. At first,

Compare And Contrast Martin Luther King And Religion
Early on in his famous letter, Martin Luther King Jr. writes: I have the honor of serving as
president of the Southern Christian Leadership conference (King 2). In a similar fashion,
Malcolm X states in the third paragraph of his speech: Although I am still a Muslim, I m not here
to discuss my religion (X 24). Both making their religions clear, but the way they approach
religion in the two texts are starkly different from one another. Both, in a way, touch on religion in
such a way to respond to a particular religious organization. King s letter is written in response to a

He uses religion to back up his claims and shows how his actions are morally supported by the
Bible, people fighting injustice beyond their homeland is nothing new, and King argues that by
doing so he is following the religious texts he and the other clergymen live their life by.
King brings in examples from his religion to further his argument that one must oppose unjust
laws using nonviolent direct action. King is accused of being an extremist, to which he
responds: Will we be extremists for hate or for love? (King 26). A bold statement, phrasing
action as having two distinct sides. King strongly disavows the white moderate who stands to the
side and waits for justice to come with time, instead of fighting for justice in the moment. He is
quick to refer to the Bible when addressing the clergymen: Was not Paul an extremist for the
Christian gospel? (King 25). Using a rhetorical question with a biblical reference to make those
who consider him an extremist, rethink if being an extremist is such an ill position to be in. He
continues to use biblical imagery to support his point, citing that he is an extremist for love as so
many were before him, including several prominent figures from Christianity. Even Jesus Christ, he
states was an extremist for love, truth and goodness (King 26). By using this symbolism King is
able to converse with his fellow clergymen in a way that is familiar to them all, pointing out the

General orientation for Vietnam energy policy is to ensure national energy security: includes
supply and consumption security on, oil, coal, gas, electricity, and other sources. Vietnam applied
effective utilization of energy sources and conservation of national energy resources, environmental
protection in energy exploration and utilization [3]. Then, the development of renewable energy
resources in Cambodia has been hampered by the lack of technical knowledge and funds. The
development of solar, wind, bio fuel and biogas in generating electricity seen as the opportunities as
the current electricity prices in Cambodia are very high. The government, with international
assistance, has installed some 12,000 solar household systems. Attention to maintenance support
will be needed to ensure sustainable results. Wind energy, on the other hand, is limited by wind
speeds and the weakness of the grid and load system. Wind energy would be commercially viable,
as illustrated by a pilot wind turbine project in Sihanoukville. Cambodia s biomass energy potential
is diverse, with large concentrations of agricultural residues. The government s long term target of
substituting 10% of diesel imports with domestic biodiesel production and 20% of gasoline

The Assassin Essay
It was a dark and stormy night. The rain came down in torrents, soaking the solitary man to the
skin. He stood alone, silent, still enveloped by the black of the night; he stood at the top of his
drive which led to his mansion.
Had the sun been glowing, this lonely man would have seen the car parked up about half a mile
from him, with its engine and lights off, there was no cover for the car either as the man and his
mansion was surrounded by lots of fields and meandering roads.
Unaware to the man, the cars engine started but the lights didn t go on, yet the dark restricted the
man s vision so he didn t see the car slowly crept up on him.
The car stopped and a man dressed in nothing but ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The buzzing became louder yet it seemed further away as if…..that s it! He realised suddenly.
The buzzing is in my head! As this though crossed his mind, terror crossed his face. The terror
turned to anger as he hit himself over the head, hoping to drive out the unknown buzzing. One
thought, and one thought only crossed his mind. Get it out. Over and over he heard these words,
infuriating him but yet he listened.
Like a man possessed, he put both hands to his head and shook it, but still the continuous high
pitched buzzing still rang through his skull. He clawed at his face, his nails leaving trails of blood
in his cheeks.
Then he fell clumsily to the ground, silent, still. Dead. In a puddle of red liquid.
On looking closer, a passer by may have seen the deep scars in the man s face and the dried blood
under his nails.
Two people went walking by, a girl and her boyfriend; at first they thought it was a homeless
person but as they got closer they realised there was something seriously wrong.
When the girl saw his face the first thing she did was let out a tremendous scream, compared to
her boyfriend, whose first reaction was to see if the man was still alive,
Softly her boyfriend said He s dead ,
The girl broke down in tears whilst the boy reached for his phone.
Ambulance please. And the police.
The boy stood up with the sun shining fiercely in

  • 2. Freudian Psychoanalysis As The Forerunner Of All... Reading response 3 Jones and Butman (2012) view psychoanalysis as the forerunner of all psychotherapeutic methods. Freudian psychoanalysis theorizes that all human behavior is influenced by early childhood experiences. Freud argues that human behavior is mostly unconscious and driven by conflicting desires, feelings, fears, and motives. The goal of psychoanalysis is to resolve intrapsychic conflict by bringing into conscious awareness the unconscious desires and motives of an individual. Through free association, the unconscious is made conscious, and unresolved conflict or anxiety is resolved. Psychoanalysis also seeks to challenge self defeating coping methods or defense mechanisms and aims to replace the negative coping methods with more effective coping mechanism (Jones Butman, 2012) Freud s model of personality posits that: 1.There are three levels of consciousness: the conscious experiences, the preconscious experiences, and unconscious experiences, however, all behavior is determined by unconscious experiences. 2.Human Behavior is determined by past unresolved events from childhood. 3.Human behavior is determined by the interaction of sexual and aggressive drives. 4.Personality is structured in terms the id, ego and superego. The id is pleasure driven, and seeks to satisfy its needs. The ego is reality based and fulfills the wishes and demands of the id in the outside world. The superego, a split off from the ego, characterizes internalized values and moral ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 4. American Transcendentalist Writers Essay Following the influx of the puritanical style of writing in America during the 17th Century by the Founding Fathers, it could be said that what we now know as the collective `American writing was once created almost as an effort to distance its own style from that of other European styles. Perhaps not being incredibly popular outside their own circle of influence, writers such as Ralph Waldo Emerson and other Transcendentalists began, in the 19th Century, to weave a new form of writing using philosophy as the `vehicle of thought . While this allowed them to explore new and untouched areas in the mind, it also greatly influenced many later writers from Henry Thoreau to the more `popular and recent Mark Twain. Let us begin with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although some critics may treat Walden as simply a text on the love of nature, Thoreau s message, and indeed philosophy, seems to lay deeper. Although he never openly criticises the state of America, there are certainly references to suggest that this text is somewhat a social commentary or criticism of the society in which he lived. For example he suggests `Better if [men] had been born in the open pasture and suckled by a wolf, that they might have clearer eyes what field they were called to labour in . Through this extract, and indeed through much of the text, we can see that Thoreau uses the image of nature to suggest his own ideal of society. It seems that by isolating himself from civilisation, he begins to understand himself through self realisation and thus establishes his own identity. From the question, `Why should they begin digging their own graves as soon as they are born? , we learn a little of Thoreau s philosophy on life: he disagrees with the collective identity of the increasingly capitalist America in which he lives, asking why should we passively comply with a capitalist machine? Similar to the way in which Thoreau isolated himself from civilisation, poet Emily Dickinson also attempted to question the values of this new society in which she lived, except this time from within the seclusion of her own home in Massachusetts. Clearly Dickinson s poetry was far from anything the American public had ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

You have cancer. The hard plastic chair and the atmosphere in the room suddenly feel colder as your body and mind go still. The doctor rambles on about the state of the condition, but nothing is absorbed. There is only one thing that needs answering. Is this curable? Cancer is a truly devastating verdict to be given and something no one is ready for. Every city, state, country, and continent in the world experiences great loss due to deaths from cancer. B orn only two months before Shakespeare and dead before he was thirty, Christopher Marlowe, considered to be the first English tragic poet, began and ended his literary work while Shakespeare was still at the beginning. His earliest tragedy, Tamburlaine the Great, was a path opener for the possibilities of Elizabethan tragedy. It was followed by other three tragedies, Dr Faustus, The Jew of Malta, and Edward II. In the prologue to his first piece, Tamburlaine, the playwright announced his intention to use in tragedy high astounding terms. • 13. Interconnectedness In Let The Great World Spin By Colum... Let the Great World Spin, demonstrates throughout how each of our lives are connected to each other all around the world whether we live in the same city or miles apart, whether we know each other or if we are strangers. Everything overlaps and affects everyone in the world in some way. This interconnectedness that is displayed throughout the novel is a huge theme and point that many might miss upon reading this novel. Colum McCann, the author of Let the Great World Spin, developed a intricate connectedness in the lives of each of his characters in the novel, it is through this that he unites his characters together either physically and mentally. By doing this, the author develops an idea that two or more very different life paths can cross and become intertwined with one another in a way that can change the direction of someone s life; in other words, the people around us, even strangers, can in some way, meaningfully influence us on accident without even knowing it. One person s decision has many unknown and known effects. First example of how the author uses connectedness as the point of this novel is how Ciaran and Lara end up getting married later in the novel. At the beginning of the novel neither of the two characters know anything about the other s existence until the car crash that ends Ciaran s brothers life that Lara and her ex husband, Blaine, were involved in. It is through their grief that they get to know each other and learn to forgive themselves and learn to move on. Had not Lara and Blaine not been the ones involved in the accident as far as we know, Ciaran and Lara would not have met nor ever gotten married. A second example of the the connection between characters is the connection Gloria and Claire share between each other, which leads to Gloria and Jaslyn s connection in addition to Jaslyn and Claire s connection after Gloria dies. Gloria and Claire s connection begins with the deaths of their sons in the Vietnam War. Their connections spreads across a delicate and painful time and space as results of both having to deal and cope with the tragic events with their sons and having it change their lives as they know it. They happily agreed to participate enthusiastically in this blind shaving test as they were happy with companies complimentary gifts. As all the envelopes were sealed, keeping in mind the safety of the customer, so I basically used to open the envelope in front of the customer in order to reassure him that the shaving test is only for research purposes. When the customer came to know that if he participate in the test he will get a deodorant worth 10 AED for free, so customer was more enthusiastic and happily agreed to participate. • 30. Temperance Movement In The Great Gatsby Marisol Perez Mr. Chadwick AP English Language and Composition June 9th, 2017 For America, the 1920 s was a time of economic prosperity, and political and social changes. The growth of cities, consumer buying, and fashion changes were some of the key changes and developments during this time. Everyone wanted to achieve the American Dream. They were to achieve this dream no matter what they had to go through, whether it be illegal or not. The Temperance Movement took place during this era and many citizens were upset with the government and disagreed with the prohibition. The Temperance Movement was the prohibition of alcohol by the government. It banned the buying, selling and the consumption of any type of alcohol. Many women began to abandon the long and conservative dresses; They wore short, revealing dresses with long necklaces and they had the classic bobbed hairstyle. The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald is about the relationships between the main characters: Nick Carraway, Daisy and Tom Buchanan, and Jay Gatsby. It is set in New York during the Roaring 20s . The Great Gatsby incorporated the aspects of the 1920s by including the effects of the idea of American Dream, the rich and careless lives of its citizens during the Temperance movements and the emergence of women s more sexual and independent in society. The American Dream was a very important aspect in the 1920s. To the immigrants and the citizens, it meant that they had an equal opportunity to achieve success and prosperity with hardwork and dedication, despite their upbringing. In the Great Gatsby, Jay Gatsby represented the American Dream of self made wealth and happiness. Jay Gatsby was legally named James Gatz and he changed it at the age of seventeen and at the specific moment that witnessed the beginning of his career (Fitzgerald 98). He invented the name Jay Gatsby and a new life of glory and riches. His parents were shiftless and unsuccessful farmers who could not afford anything from his imagination. • 31. The Roman Colosseum Of Rome When I ask you to imagine Italy and all the vast architecture, what do picture? I am going to assume you would picture colosseums. The piece of art I chose to research was the granddaddy of them all, the Roman Colosseum. This is potentially the most famous monument to survive the classical period. Today, the Colosseumis one of Rome s most popular tourist attractions, attracting millions of visitors every year. This massive amphitheater is located in the center of Rome, Italy. During ancient roman times these massive amphitheaters were commonly placed around cities. Eventually there were well over 250 amphitheaters in the Roman empire(Hopkins). However, no other amphitheater competes in size. What sparked the want to build such a massive amphitheater? Why is this so important? Years prior to the construction of the Colosseum, Rome was dealing with a massive civil war which destroyed the city. At the time of construction, Rome s emperor was Vespasian s and his decision to build the Colosseum on the site of Nero s lake can be seen as a gesture of returning a part of the city to the people which emperor Nero had appropriated for his own use (Roman Colosseum History). However, Vespasian never saw the completion of his Colosseum due to his untimely death. His son, Titus would go on to open the Colosseum to the public in AD 80. The Colosseum remained in service for 450 years. The Colosseum is also known as The Flavian Amphitheatre(Roman). The Colosseum had seating for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 32. The Process Of Survival In Hatchet By Gary Paulsen The process of survival is a basis laid upon many significant factors and it can become an educational experience in which an individual may learn the skill of independent thinking and will inevitably gain new insights into themselves. These ideas are considered throughout the contemporary novel, Hatchet, by Gary Paulsenin which the protagonist, Brian, undertakes tremendous trials. Through their experiences, the protagonist obtains further knowledgeabout himself, others, and the world. Through addressing barriers that have been thrust upon them, an individual will learn how to cope with struggles in everyday life and gain increased knowledge about themselves. Hatchet is a novel about a young city boy whose plane crashes in the Canadian wilderness while he is on his way to see his father. All he has is a hatchet and a desperate will to survive. Your emotional state is very important to how you act and this is evident when Brian was attempting to spear a fool bird. The quote: They exasperated him to the point where they were driving him insane is a hyperbole that demonstrates to what degree Brian is being challenged which teaches him better determination and resilience. This is further reiterated in the quote: In the roaring plane with no pilot, he was alone. Alone. which shows up in the text just before Brian crashes. This personification and repetition teaches Brian about perseverance and the ability to be alone. This is also an example of truncated sentences that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

They can often trigger strong emotions that lead to hurtful words and uneasiness. If these conflicts are not resolved in a healthy way, resentment and a dissolved relationship could follow. However, when they are resolved in a proper manner, it could promote growth between the couple and fortify the bonds of their relationship (Conflict Resolution Skills). She should demonstrate that if she returned to work, the financial burden would be reduced. Joshua s perspective on day care should be emphasized because it will produce an unnecessary expense. Furthermore, a large part of their income would result in the consumption of day care. Guideline 5: When You Can, Choose the Timeand Place Carefully Lenora and Joshua should set time aside to discuss their conflict instead of randomly arguing over the same issues. By doing this, it gives each other time to put thoughts together instead of saying something that they don t mean or is derogatory. Guideline 6: Address a Specific Issue, Ask for a Specific Change, and Be Open to Compromise Lenora needs to express her desire to go back to work because it will benefit both Christa and the family. But at the same time, Lenora should consider the affect it will have on her when she goes back to work. Fast forward to January 9, 2007, and the first generation iPhonewas released which revolutionized the smartphone as we know it today as it was the first smartphone to feature an adaptive touch screen display. The first generation iPhone had a 3.5 inch screen, was encased in metal and featured the trademark home button found on the bottom of the display. • 35. Art Museum Reflection Paper Before visiting the Seattle Art Museum (SAM) to observe and analyze the art covered in class, I made sure to read the museum s mission statement. That way, it would be in my mind as I walked through the halls and moved from gallery to gallery and I could revisit it afterward. According to Seattle Art Museum s executive summary and strategic plan for 2014 2017, the museum s mission is a simple one: to connect art to life. Through art, the Seattle Art Museum enriches lives and engages diverse communities. As the leading visual art institution in the Pacific Northwest, SAM draws on its global collections, powerful exhibitions, and dynamic programs to provide unique educational resources benefiting the Seattle region, the Pacific Northwest, and beyond (Seattle Art Museum). Regarding the fact that I am writing this now and had the opportunity to observe and research many works of art proves their mission to be successful. Walking into the museum, I noticed that it already appeared to be much bigger on the inside than it did on the outside. The first two floors were lit mostly by natural light and provided museum visitors access to tickets, information about the museum, the gift shop, and some food. The remaining floors were dimmer and mostly just the art pieces were given light to eliminate distraction. The American, Native American, and modern/contemporary art was displayed on the third floor while the African, European, and Mediterranean art was found on the top floor. The three art pieces that interested me the most were all found on the third floor in mostly the modern and contemporary art section. To, help uncover the power of detail behind the artwork, I chose three pieces corresponding to abstract and abstract expressionismfrom artists Jackson Pollock, Josef Albers, and Eva Hesse to research and truly analyze. The first powerful example of abstract art and in this case, abstract expressionism, comes from Jackson Pollock. Paul Jackson Pollock was born in Cody, Wyoming, in 1912, to a family with four other sons. When Pollock was nine years old, his father abandoned the family and returned when only after Pollock had already moved out of the house. Though his childhood was a fairly rough, he loved nature ... The show portrays a bunch of kids biking around town unsupervised and solving mysteries and saving the town. The author, Anna North, then uses this notion to discuss how nowadays the idea of unstructured childhoodis almost nonexistent and that parents are involved in everything due to cell phones, fear of childmolesters and a move towards more parental involvement. The diction used in this article clearly shows two opposing sides a controlling side and a carefree side. The controlling side is brought into light when the author used phrases like helicopter parent . And the carefree side is seen when North uses phrases such as unsupervised , permissive and unstructured . This article is very well written as it is infused with both fact and fictional details and evidence. The content of this article was refreshing to read. I agree with the concept of it but disagree with the details. In the the seventh paragraph North points out that unstructured childhood seems less possible due to all the cell phones and the fear of child molesters. This was a very weak argument and one that wasn t researched very well. Cell phones have nothing to do with more structured parenting in fact they give children more freedom since parents can now reach their children wherever they are and check in on them. The fear of child molesters is very downplayed in this article. This article in a sense completely romanticized the 1980 s. The number of child molestations that occurred during the 80 s is almost 15% higher than it does now. This is most likely due to the fact that kids in the 80 s were allowed to go places without parental supervision which usually led to dangerous circumstances. The point I m trying to make is that parents became more involved in their children s daily activity not because they want to but because they have to. The world is not a safe place for children to grow and experience on their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Jasmine and I became acquainted with each other when we were in the fourth grade. He uses religion to back up his claims and shows how his actions are morally supported by the Bible, people fighting injustice beyond their homeland is nothing new, and King argues that by doing so he is following the religious texts he and the other clergymen live their life by. King brings in examples from his religion to further his argument that one must oppose unjust laws using nonviolent direct action. King is accused of being an extremist, to which he responds: Will we be extremists for hate or for love? (King 26). A bold statement, phrasing action as having two distinct sides. King strongly disavows the white moderate who stands to the side and waits for justice to come with time, instead of fighting for justice in the moment. He is quick to refer to the Bible when addressing the clergymen: Was not Paul an extremist for the Christian gospel? (King 25). Using a rhetorical question with a biblical reference to make those who consider him an extremist, rethink if being an extremist is such an ill position to be in. He continues to use biblical imagery to support his point, citing that he is an extremist for love as so many were before him, including several prominent figures from Christianity.
