Appalachian Culture Research Paper
Abstract The region that is considered Appalachia extends from the southern point of New York
and extends down to northern Georgia and the northern part of Mississippi. The region includes
parts of Tennessee, Kentucky, West Virginia, the western portion of Virginia, and parts of Ohio,
Pennsylvania, and Maryland. The Appalachian culture is made up of a vast array of migrants who
settled in the region and is comprised of both urban and rural developments. Appalachian culture is
defined by its people, traditions, regional assets, and the many social issues like poverty and
substance abuse that have developed inside the region. Understanding the culture of the
Appalachian people is an essential part of social work practice. Failure to develop

Good Country People Character Analysis Essay
Joy changes her name to Hulga in Good Country People by Flannery O Conner in order to
change her perception of herself, her conflict being her identity. During Joy s contemplation, she
encounter the name Hulga because she had a vision of the name working like the ugly sweating
Vulcan who stayed in the furnace and to whom...the goddess had to come when called (664).
Joy sympathizes for Vulcan because the god also has a physical deformity; and just like Vulcan
who s the god of fire and forge, she s forging an identity for herself that can be stated her highest
creative act (665). It can be interpreted that Joy has forgiven herself for her disability and sees her
leg as her backbone when her mother had not been able to turn her dust into Joy but rather she
had been able to turn it herself into Hulga; she accepts her own beauty and realizes she s
beautiful (665). If Vulcan can be married to Venus, then she can be accepted into her own crowd,
as she once said, If you want me, here I am LIKE I AM (664).... Show more content on

Because she believes in the inexistence of god and meaning of life, Joy exhibits characteristic
traits of awareness and fortitude, viewing herself as nothing as described when Joy said, I don t
have illusions. I m one of those people who see through to nothing emphasizing her nihilistic belief
(673). In the following scene, she demonstrates her confidence in her enlightenment when she said,
We are all damned...but some of us have taken off our blindfolds and see that there s nothing to

Pro Life Vs. Pro-Choice
In today s society, there is a huge discussion called, Pro Life vs Pro Choice . This debate is
essentially over whether a woman should have the right to do what she wishes to her body. The
majority of all abortion procedures are within the first trimester of pregnancy. This means there is
no harm done to the fetus because it is only in the first stages of its growth. It is a known fact that
if politicians pass laws against abortions, it will not stop the procedures from happening. If
anything, it will increase the number of deaths in women due to illegal and unsanitary abortions.
In 1973, there was a case that went to the Supreme Court called Roe v. Wade. In the case, it was
ruled that the Fourteenth Amendment gave women the fundamental

History And Evolution Of The Anti Feminist Movement Essay
In this paper, I will be exploring in depth the history and evolution of the anti feminist movement as
a reaction to feminism in the United States. As a background, I will provide a brief summary of the
feminist movement and it s relation to anti feminism. Then I will go into the anti feminist
movement, and it s origins, background, and main supporters. Although anti feminismwas founded
as a backlash movement, it actually sparked another wave of movements itself, those of which I
will explore as well. Lastly, I will look at how anti feminism has evolved over time, and it s impact
on society and feminism as a whole. Although feminism in the United States can be dated back to
the early 18th century, any movements or advocates during that time were scarce, and the societal
influence accomplished was little to none. The feminist movement didn t really start to get started
until the 19th century. 19th century through mid 20th century feminism is considered First wave
feminism, which includes the suffrage movement, education reform, workplace reform, and the
beginning of the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA) movements (Harding, 1981). The first wave of
feminism peaked and is said to have ended with the passage of the 19th Amendment, giving women
the right to vote, and putting an end to the highly influential suffrage movement. Second wave
feminism is the period of the feminist movement which took place from mid to late 20th century
into the 21st century (Harding, 1981). This period

Hamlet J Alfred Prufrock
J. Alfred Prufrock is middle aged, man who lives a very mundane and boring life style. He
sounds to be a tall skinny, bald man who is extremely self conscious. the town he lives in I don t
he enjoys by the descriptions of sawdust restaurant and cheap hotels. The restaurants atmosphere is
one of a doctor/patient environment awaiting so sort of procedure. He lacks imagination and sees
the world through gloomy lenses by his description of the fog being the color of yellow.
Eliot shows Alfred Purfrock as a titular character a few different ways through out the poem. I
believe for hims to be an award sort of fellow due to the irregular rhyme of the poem. He also
appears to be nervous and over thinks situations this is shown in his analogy of measuring the
meaning of his life with spoons. He lives in the shadows of ignorant women who speak of
Michelangelo. He speaks of Prince Hamelt towards the end of the poem, No! I am not Prince
Hamlet, nor was meant to be (Eliot p. 654). Prince Hamlet was the titular character in Hamlet by
William Shakespeare, a man who was also indecisive and hesitant, though could be impulsive at
times. Alfred shown to have low self esteem by the quote, When I am pinned and wriggling on
the wall (Eliot p. 652) he overthinks situations, especially social situation, fearing what people
will think of him. Throughout the majority of the poem he exhibits social anxiety and the
thought he would disturb the universe. Prufrock compares his need to express his feelings as if
he was Lazarus who came back from the dead...a little dramatic if you ask me (Eliot line 94 95).
Yet, we see him assume the worse sinario and the girl response to him is one of confusion. ... Show

Empirical Chemicals, LTD. (A): The Merseyside Project Is the proposed $7 million expenditure
to renovate and rationalize the polypropylene production line at the Merseyside Plant to exploit
opportunities and achieve increased production efficiency worth it? They are under pressure
from investors to improve financial performance because Earnings per Share Have dropped

I think the fact that the plant will have to close for a short 60 days will be an issue but won t
really affect the long term business for Merseyside. Erosion is an issue, but not a big one. I feel
that it could take place in the short term but in the long term it will have no lasting effect. When
the economy turns for the better so will the polypropylene industry. Both plants were running at
capacity before the project so there should be no problem with gaining new clientele. The tank
cars are the bigger issue, because nobody wants to pay for them. I agree with Hawkins in that the
transportation department should have to. Although, I think the project should be started sooner
then later, so if it takes Merseyside paying for the tank cars and getting the money back in 1996 I

The New Testament
The New Testament is rooted in history; real histories like time and space. It is also striking in its
personal tone. The great majority of its documents are letters; personal letters similar to those used
in the modern era. The format may be somewhat different for moderns; however, for those
recipients receiving and reading the letters in the 1st Century they represented normal writing
conventions. The four Gospel accounts the New Testament contains are personalized accounts of
the life and work of JesusChrist as he came too initiated in the Kingdom of God. They are
informative and actually contain the very words of Jesus. Luke, the writer of one of the accounts,

Only Acts provides the outline of Paul s missionary activity, from his conversion to his Roman
imprisonment (chapters 13 28). No record exists detailing the various missionary activities of the
other apostles although it seems possible they were doing likewise. The author of Hebrews is
unknown; however, the book is a superb comparison/correlation of the old and new covenants. The
apocalyptic revelation John received is addressed to seven churches of Asia and, while it gives
warning concerning their current treatment of the gospel, it also gives encouragement to them
pertaining to present and upcoming persecution. The New Testament is a wonderful piece of divine
literature and stands worthy of our confidence.
It is generally thought that Paul s writings were the first to be recognized in their circulation
among the churches. His letter to the Galatians appears like it was his first and to have been
written approximately 48 49CE. His other letters are thought to have been written during the 50
60 sCE. The Gospel accounts are considered to have been written in the period 60 85CE. Luke is
credited with having written his Gospel account as well as Acts sometime during the 60 70CE
timeframe. The writer, as well as the date of writing of Hebrews, is unknown; however, estimates
are of a pre 70CE

Jap A Very Interesting Place, It Is The Same Size Of The...
Japan is a very interesting place, it is the same size of the state California and the lifestyle can be
divided into three types: farm land type, fishing village type, and urban types. When learning
about the political area I have learned that in the United States we have a President and
Secretaries of the state, but in Japan they have Emperor s (chief of state), Prime Ministers, and
Deputy Prime Ministers. The chef of state is named Emperor Akihito and the head of
government is Prime Minister Shinzo ABE; Deputy Prime Minister Taro ASO. (CIA, 2016) The
prime minister is the leader of the largest political party and appoints various ministries to make
up his cabinet. Political power is supposed to be shared between national government and
regional governments. However, most of the time the national government is unwilling or unable
to fix urgent or local matters. According to Funabashi, The country s population has been
declining since 2008 at 128 million people to 2016 at 127 million people. The prime minister has
set the first numerical target to stabilize the population at 100 million over the next 50 years,
breaking a postwar political taboo . (Funabashi, 2016) In japan the population is growing slowly
and aging rapidly, and that is effecting the older population (Pulsipher, 2010). It is bad when there
are more dogs and cats registered than there are children under the age of fifteen. It is like the
people are not producing children anymore there. The families are not

divided up into two groups: A subjects with normal ejaculates and B subjects with abnormal
ejaculates. The subjects in the abnormal group were then divided up into 3 sub groups:
Asthenoteratozoospermics, Oligoasthenoteratozoospermics, and Azoospermics. Each of these
groups represents a sample with specific parameters on sperm concentration, sperm motility, and
sperm morphology. When looking at the results of the samples, statistics show that group A had the
highest mean Zinc level of seminal plasma which was then followed by Asthenoteratozoospermics,
Oligoasthenoteratozoospermics, and Azoospermics. Overall the study concluded that the

Analysis Of Caught In The Widow s Web By Gordon Grice
In 2016, a grocery store customer in New Hampshire looked into a bag of grapes and saw a black
widow spider crawling out of the bunch of grapes inside the bag. This spider, name being a
black widow, is one that Gordon Grice says a number of times throughout his essay. Grice uses
repetition of the name in order to create a sense of fear for the spider. The 8 legged spider with a
shiny backside and red hourglass shape on its belly is one of the most venomous spiders in the
United States. In a inexpressive tone, Gordon Grice, the writer of the non fiction essay Caught in

even natural selection favors the inheritance of useful characteristics that arise from random
mutation and tends to extinguish disadvantageous traits (12). This proves there is no known
scientific or rational reason for the venoms high toxins. By providing no logical explanation for the

1. Objective
To undertake a critical review of the current product check and release processes to ensure a robust,
high quality and safe product approval system is in place to safeguard patient safety and to ensure

The aseptic preparation of products at Northern Lincolnshire and Goole NHS Foundation Trust
(NLAG) is carried out in an unlicensed unit under Section 10 exemption of the Medicines Act
1968. (1) It requires that the preparation is done by or under the supervision of a Pharmacist, who

It provides a proposed product approval/Pharmacist supervision model that has been attached in
Appendix 1.
Final product accuracy check and release at NLAG is undertaken by the Authorised Pharmacist
(usually band 7 or above). The Authorised Pharmacist also undertakes the clinical checks/screening
of the prescriptions. It has been discussed that undertaking these checks by different pharmacists
will add an extra safety check in the process and there is a plan for separation of these roles in the
near future. The plan is to have a Clinical Pharmacist undertaking the clinical checks in the clinical
area and an Authorised Pharmacist in the Aseptic Unit undertaking the product check and approval
(release). Another proposal has been suggested following this analysis.
There are some concerns regarding separation of the roles as the staff who may be involved in
approving products (band 6 pharmacists) have a lack of knowledge and skills in aseptics. There
is also a need for cost effective working and flexibility within the service, including appropriate
skill mix. This all emphasises a requirement for this critical analysis to ensure that a robust product
check and release is undertaken.
Although errors in the preparation of injectable medicines within pharmacy aseptic environments

The Suspense In The Sixth Sense Essay
The Suspense In The Sixth Sense
The Sixth Sense is a psychological thriller. It follows a very simple set of conventions that are
associated with all psychological thrillers. The hero or anti hero is always present in
psychological thrillers and is there for the audience to relate to. Vulnerable characters are often
depicted as small children. Children are seen as innocent and un knowing, it is easy for the
audience to be aware of what the children are going through as they were all one once. Suspense is
always built up with dramatic and scary music. Using this convention allows the audience time to

very happy to accept psychological thrillers because they are usually always popular e.g. The

who is helping him. As the movie progresses it is able to show why the doctor is helping the boy

Based upon the comparative analysis of national cultures between UK and China, what should B Q

Labor Division
Preindustrial economies encompasses hunter and gather, agricultural, and agrarian societies.
The labors in this type of society are involved in primary sector production which is the removal
of natural and raw resources from the environment. These resources are used with little or no
processing. Most goods in hunter and gather societies are made by family members in small
quantities in order to take care of their basic needs. Labor division is based on age and gender.
As people in these societies become skilled at raising animals and cultivating their own food,
they are able to produce surplus goods. In the case of agricultural and rural societies, family life
is separate from the economy. The production process is more complex and the resulting buildup
of surplus allows some people within that society to concentrate on other endeavors beyond
producing food. Food production is the main focus in an agrarian society, however, labors have a
greater array of dedicated responsibilities, such as warriors who aid in the protection of the surplus

This type of economy relies on new methods of energy production such as electricity, steam, and
gasoline as well as the latest technology. This results in an increase in factories as the main method

repetitive, and laborers work separately on machines. Laborers are involved in secondary sector
production which is the process of turning raw materials into finished goods. For example,
lumberjacks felled and mill trees, turning them into lumber; carpenters then convert the lumber into

The Efficacy Of Decisions In The Price By Arthur Miller
The Price of Decisions
In The Price written by Arthur Miller, in 1968, Manhattan Brownstone, Victor Franz, a cop, who
believes he is a failure, returned to his childhood home to sell his parents estate. He hired an
appraiser, Gregory Solomon, a salesman who is 90 years old and has experienced it all, to sell
the furniture. In Act II, the audience is introduced to Victor s brother, Walter Franz. Victor was
unable to fulfill his dream of becoming a scientist to take care of his father, a victim of the Great
Depression. However, his brother Walter Franz became a doctor and left his family to pursue his
career. For decades, Victor and Walter have not properly spoken to each other and have unresolved

I could not connect to the story and I think that affected how I feel about the play. I thought that
it was confusing when Solomon would repeatedly enter the intense conversations between Ester,
Walter and Victor. I could not decide whether or not I should laugh or not. I think the actors
should have had microphones because it was difficult to hear them with the accents, but The
acting was good, especially Danny Devito during the egg scene. It was amazing how he was able
to make the egg last and spitted it out over the course of approximately 10 minutes. I liked the
comedy that was in the play because it did not interfere with the seriousness, and drama in the
play. It was interesting to see actors, Danny DeVito and Mark Ruffalo acting in a play when they
are Hollywood stars and it was difficult to see Mark Ruffalo anything besides the Hulk. The play
dramatizes the importance and difficulty of unraveling the past, no matter what the price might

National Health Care For The United States
According to Cothran (2015), Over the past five decades, there have been major shifts in how
we pay for hospital care, physician services, long term care, prescription drugs, and other
services and products . Before Medicare and Medicaid, about half of hospital care was not
covered by insurance. About 100 % of the spending on prescription medications came from the
customers in the 1960s (Cothran, 2015). But, in 2014, customers spent 15% less. Team B will
explain our position on national health care spending in the United States. We will also include:
current national health care costs, if we are spending too much or not, should we add or cut
spending and why, how health care needs are paid for, and future economic needs of the health...

The pharmaceutical industry is yet another part of health care that is receiving immense profits
from its advertisements and a physician prescribing only certain medications. The truth is that some
of the medicines can cause more harm than good. So who s really profiting? Truth is, that the
physicians and pharmaceutical companies are benefiting; when the doctor prescribes medications
that causes more issues than it cures, a revolving door is created so that the physicians and
pharmaceutical companies can keep gaining profits. For instance, if a patient receives medicine to
treat an ailment and it creates more health issues then the doctor will now keep prescribing
medications to fix an issue, when it is actually making the patient worse. By creating a need the
companies are able to keep themselves afloat. The federal budget was 3.8 trillion for the 2015
fiscal year. The government to take care of each and every American divides the 3.8 trillion; this
comes to about 12,000 per American ( National Priorities Project , 2015). Over 90% of federal
monies are used for mandatory and discretionary spending. The rest is spent on interest that the
government has accumulated. 1.11 trillion is the equivalent of what was spent in discretionary
spending in 2015. About 60% was spent on military and government, 6% on education, the rest was
divided almost equally 5% or less on: veteran s benefits, food and agriculture, transportation,

How Does Jane Austen Use Anne Elliot Respond To Peer...
In the excerpt from Jane Austen s novel Persuasion, Anne Elliot is faced with a decision normally
seen as a dream come true by nineteenth century women of marrying her knighted cousin. However,
in true Brothers Grimm fashion, Anne was reluctant to enter into the incestious relationship of her
dreams even at the wishes of close familyfriend, Lady Russell. Through her narrative techniques of
selection of time frame, character selection, and an omniscient point of view, Austen illustrated
the nature of the proposed relationship and the desires of both Lady Russell and Anne. The time
frame Austen selected for her story emphasized the weight of the proposed union set in a time
where titles were worth more than life, the scenario of marrying a knighted man and being able to
keep it within the family bloodline was a win in all aspects. The knowledge of how great an impact
the marriagewould have on Anne s family name brought a greater gravity to her doubts on the
marriage and put her in a position where, upon declining the proposal, could lead to her social
ostracization.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Montana Tribe Research Paper
I felt that it was incredibly important to learn the background in all Montana Tribes and history
first before choosing a tribe to learn more about. Long before Montana became known as the last
best place, Indian people knew this area as the first best place (Whitford, p.2). The Native
Americans were promised many things. That they still have not received to this day. Later in the
1800 s, treaties started to begin between the U.S. Government and the Native Americans (Whitford,
p.2). The treaties were over the land.
In Montana, there are twelve tribal nations. Only eleven have their own homelands. This is
because they have either treaties set or have an order. The only Tribe that doe not have their own
homeland is Little Shell Band of Chippewa (Whitford, p.3). I think it is very important to
understand that each Tribe has its own story about what happened between them as a tribe and the
U.S. Government (Whitford, p. 3). How that particular tribe has overcome things that happened in
the 1800 s and today. The tribe/reservation that I have chosen to learn ... Show more content on

Memories And The Formation Of Reality
In film, flashbacks are interruptions that take the narrative back in time from the current point in
the story. They are often used to provide background and context to recount current events of a
narrative filling in crucial backstories. In its basic form, the flashback is introduced when a
presented image dissolves to another image of the past, which can be either as a story being told or
a subjective memory. (Turim, pg. 1) For example, dream sequences and memories are methods used
to present flashbacks. They become visual representation to the audience as an act of remembering
past experiences of reality. Imagination also plays an important role in shaping the mindand the
story similar to memories and the formation of reality. Imagination is usually integrated into
animationas an artistic creation to express the artists ideas or memory. But where does the use of
imagination and memories stop? By examining memory represented in animation and film, through
Bartlett s theory of schema, we can see how the film develops an active organized method to
recognize reality through memory. This paper is examining five films based on the theme of
memory, thus arguing that imagination does not distorted memory in animation, but create a role
as a form of embellishment for the film to help memory. Fredrick Bartlett is a British psychologist
from Cambridge University, based on his book Remembering (1932) that focused on how people
made sense of what was being remembered. The

Introduction to Tourism and Travel
By definition Travel is an activity taken by individual(s) which involves the movement of people
from one point to another for the purpose of personal work, business, and enjoyment.
Tourism can be defined as the set of activities of persons traveling to and staying in places outside
their usual environment for not more than one consecutive year and whose main purpose of travel
is other than the exercise of an activity renumerated from within the place visited.
While on the surface travel and tourism mean approximately the same things, they
Represent two completely different ways of approaching a journey. Here are the differences
between travel and tourism, broken down by issues every person must consider when going to a

Mean Creek- Important Idea
Explain an important idea in a text you have studied. Explain why you found it interesting. Discuss
visual and verbal techniques in your answer.
In the film Mean Creek directed by Jacob Aaron Estes, the important idea of loss of innocence is
very interesting as it tells the story and shows us how quickly things can change. The director
shows us this through the way the characters change during the burial of George, the word snap
written in a tree and the guilt felt by Millie and Sam.

this is when they lose their innocence. When they decide to bury Georges body the character all

A wide shot is used to show George sitting down by himself, this shows how lonely he is and
makes us actually feel sympathy towards him. This is followed by silence which shows how
Sam doesn t want to hurt George. This emphasises the innocence of Sam as he did not wish to
do anything which could result in the death of George. This Quote foreshadows the death of
George. As a viewer tension builds u as we wait the events that link to the death. After the death
of George, Millie engraves the word Snap into a tree. This is significant as it shows how life can
change as fast as the snap of the fingers. A foley effect is used on the scratching of the knife on
the tree to show Millie s anger and how she feels they have not only turned flipped there life
upside down but they took a life and destroyed Georges relatives lives. The foley effect turns
your attention the Millie as the viewer anticipates what she is writing .we now see how just 24
hours before they were all living a normal happy life but now they are emotionally distort and
stumped for a conclusion of what to do. The word snap makes the important idea of loss of
innocence interesting as it shows how fast they have totally lost their innocence.
Lastly loss of innocence is seen as interesting as Millie and Sam come out and talk about what
has happened. When Sam goes to Millie s room we notice a great change in her personality and
feelings. Millie is no longer a bright happy person

The People Over Weight And Obese
In today society the majority of people are over weight. The USA is considered to have the most
people over weight and obese. So what is wrong with our system of eating ? Why are other
countries considered to be healthier then the US. Part of the reason is the way we where
brought up. And another reason is the the foods we are given at easy access. But that isn t to say
the stores don t play a role in the way that you shop. So what could be a solution to living a
healthier life style. Being healthy is a lot more then being lean, its about being smart enough to
not letting the stores trick you into buying what they want you to buy, and rather what you need
to buy. When you walk into the store to buy milk, bread, meat, and produce. You ll notice that all
those things tend to be at the back of the store. They are forcing you to walk through the middle
ails where all the unnecessary things they want you to buy are located. So by the time you ve
reached the back of the store you have 5 10 items that you didn t intend to buy. Another example
is placement on the shelves. The majority of people are right handed so they will make more right
turns and as they turn to the right with the cart they place things at eye level to the right so it will
catch your eye. Another tactic is since many countries in the world read left to right they place the
higher marked items on the left in hope you ll buy the more expensive product before getting to the
cheaper alternative on the right.

The main characteristic to classify crystal or glass is the content of lend in the glass. Lead that
in crystal make its more easily cut and engraved are the presence of the lead soften the glass in

glass. For the glass stemware has the lighter weight than crystal glass and light will not diffract

Nowadays, crystal glass is unleaded because its use barium carbonate and zinc and titanium
oxides to displace the lead oxide. Those glasses are similar properties as lead crystal such as
temperature control. Unleaded glass has lighter weight but its has the similar characteristic of
refractive index with lead crystal. The highest quality crystal glass can provide a better wine

The Importance Of The French Revolution
The French Revolution was certainly one of the most important events in Europe s political
history and highlighted the importance of the new age of Enlightenment. The outcomes of the
Revolution were many: its short comings led to the rise of the Napoleonic Regime and
Robespierre s reign through terror led other European revolutionaries to step back in fear.
However, whilst the revolution failed to achieve all it had aimed to do; it did overthrow its
monarchy, creating the first true European Republic, and was able to introduce a slither of
democratic ideology into a society used to aristocratic dictatorship, showing other European states
that the people really did have power; proving, for the first time, that left wing ideology was... Show

The terms of this Treaty meant that another war was almost inevitable, thus leading to the rise of
Napoleon Bonaparte.
Napoleon s 1799 coup to become the First Consul of the Republic, was the start of one of the
biggest political and societal reforms the world had ever seen. Napoleon was desperate to prove he
was a just leader, he wanted to ensure the aims of the French Revolution became law; this was
notably seen with the implementation of the Napoleonic Code, replacing the patchwork of Feudal
Laws that had previously existed. The document established the Republic as the first European
country to create a Civil Legal System, a modern and simpler concept that existed to serve the
entire population. Napoleon s reforms were unlike anything Europe had seen before and set the
French First Republic at the forefront of political innovation. France had become an example by
which many European countries would follow in the century to come.
However, the Napoleonic Wars that sprouted from Napoleon s constant changes to the international
system, in his attempt to legitimise the aims of the Revolution, ultimately led to Napoleon s
downfall; yet, the consequences of the Wars were of great importance to Europe s stability.
Notably, the Napoleonic Wars led to the creation of the Concert of Europe, an alliance between
European powers that would likely not have occurred without the French Revolution or Napoleon.

Preterm Babies
Preterm babies are those that are born before 37 months of pregnancy are over. It is the under
developmental state of these babies that puts them at a higher risk of developing complications
after birth. Good examples of these are complications of the respiratory system that affect the ability
of the neonate to inhale and exhale air. Lung complications are common respiratory problems in
preterm infants. In most cases, the lung matures after 36 weeks, but this differs in fetuses as they
exhibit variability in their rates of development. Respiratory distress syndrome (RDS) is a common
lung problem in preterm babies, and it occurs as a result of the inability of the lungs to synthesize
enough surfactant. The surfactant is important in the lungs

Examples Of Zits Assumptions In Flight
Zits Assumptions In every person s life time they have and make assumptions. They make these
about themselves, other people, and situations in their life. Sometimes these are learned from the
environment a person s n or has grown up in. There are three types of assumptions. One being
paradigmatic which is the one that is engrained in you and can be hard to realize they exist. There
is the casual assumption by which you believe that if certain events happen then there will be a
certain outcome. Finally, there is the prescriptive assumption this is the assumption that you are
told that you should do something if you want another thing happen. Everybody makes
assumptions, and everybody can learn from their assumptions. In the book Flight the character Zits
has several assumptions that he changes by the end of the book, as well as my own self.
A casual assumption that zits makes throughout this book is, if he lets somebody love him and show
him affection, then he will be hurt by them. Zits has major trust issues. Everyone he has loved or
cared about has eventually left him or hurt him. His dad left him and his mom when he was born.
His mom died of cancer, which was not anyone s fault, but Zits blames his dad. When he was put
into foster care and the dads would hurt him. When he got close to Edgar a man who was native

week as an installer. The first paycheck I received had an error in it. I was told by my Manager at
the Paducah Office to call the corporate office and talk to payroll directly and they would handle it.
I regularly heard new employees being told, Call payroll and ask for an advance , not just due to
pay errors, but also to cover the startup costs of tools and ladders. This advice would soon lead to
disaster.
For the first time in several months I was going to Atlanta, Georgia to visit my daughter for the

wife and I were off for a fun weekend with my daughter. It wasn t until late the next week that all
hell began to break loose.

To Macbeth, death seems merely as the last act of a very bad play, an idiot s tale full of pomposity

and seizing his throne in retrospect seem like scenes from a script Macbeth was never capable of

First Day At Work It was my first day at work and I thought to myself, Is my hair straight? Are
these the right clothes? Are the people going to be mean? I walked in with confidence in my face

He gave me an old, plastic bag full of money and a solid, black register tray that looked well used.
Count this, he said in a frantic manner as I heard a loud crash take place across the store.
He rushed over to the scene, leaving me by myself as I began to count. I was confused.
How am I going to count this? I said sarcastically.
I asked around for a piece of paper, but no one had a piece on them. I counted all the money in

The career I am researching is a Sheet Metal Worker . I am researching this career because I
would someday want to go into the field of sheet metal working. I will want to do this because
this career leads to many different careers such as a field installer, a product manufacturer, and
an architectural designer. This field of work includes the opportunities to be a custom fabricator,
grinder and finisher, or a field installer. These are just some of the many opportunities available
in this field of work. ( Your para. 9) Architectural sheet metal working includes constructing and
roofing structures with sheet metal. ( Your para. 13) Industrial sheet metal working includes
working on large scale projects such as the building the machines used in automotive assembly. (
Your para. 8) A high level of skill is needed to follow manufacturing blueprints and diagrams, and
to follow written production guidelines. ( Sheet Metal Worker. para. 7) Due to exposure to
pollutants, gases, dust, fumes, odor, and poor ventilation, protective gear such as gloves, a hard

Comparing Faustian Legends In Washington Irving s The...
Faustian legends are common in many countries. The Devil and Tom Walker by Washington Irving
and The Devil and Daniel Webster by Stephen Vincent Benet bring the idea of making a deal with
the devil, and the repercussions of that deal, to American Literature. Each author writes a folktale
with uniquely American characters. The similarities and differences in both short stories depict the
philosophy of American culture. Because both short stories are folktales, the reader notices many
common elements. One common element that is shared by both short stories is the that the readers
can infer through their writing that both authors do not respect the way that the settlers treated the
Native Americans. This can be seen in Washington Irving s

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
After the discovery of electricity, effective and efficient methods have been sought to store energy
for use on demand. Over the last century, industries which work towards the effective storage of
energy have been evolving and adapting to change in energy requirements and advances in
technology.
Energy storage systems help in providing various technological approaches to the effective and
efficient management of electricity in order to create a more resilient energy infrastructure and
maximize cost savings to consumers.
Biofuel is a form of fuel produced under biological carbon fixation (such as anaerobic digestion
and agriculture). Biofuels are in various forms and are used widely in achieving energy storage
needs. Biofuels are a known source of renewable energy because of its great environmental
advantages, which includes reduced greenhouse gas emissions. The form of biofuels is categorized
into three generations, with each generation containing various fuels.
First Generation Biofuels: This generation of biofuels are generally gotten from arable crops. They
are different from the second generation biofuels in the sense that they are derived from plant dry
matter (biomass), agricultural residues and woody crops. First generation biofuels are referred to as

Tragic Heroes, By Sophocles, William Shakespeare, And...
It is very easy to fall in love with the hero. The nobleman who commits no wrong, saves the day,
and usually looks good doing it. But the best characters aren t thoroughly perfect and selfless like
we would like them to be, because in the end, that s not real life. The best, most relatable
characters are those in which we can associate, abhor, and admire all at the same time. Sophocles,
William Shakespeare, and Arthur Miller were able to capture this characterin the tragic hero. A
character who, despite their human nature, ends up destroying themselves because of their own
faults. Though these three playwrights display the tragic model in different ways, they all come
back to point out the flaws in human nature through five stages; nobility,... Show more content on

As radium continued to increase in popularity, more uses for the material emerged. The U.S.
Radium Corporation began making big money on having their workers paint watch dials with
radium luminescent paint known as Undark. Not only were these watches practical for everyday
life, they were also helpful with the war effort and provided young women with jobs to help
support their families with. The factories were clean and well lit, and the girls were paid 8 cents
a dial and could earn as much as $24 a day. However as these girls were painting their 300 dials a
day, people didn t seem to notice that the average painter consumed approximately 4,000
micrograms of radium in six months , as they pointed the tips of their brushes on their lips to get a
better point (Moss). The hamartia never truly became apparent to anyone until girls such as Amelia
Maggia started developing the symptoms of radiation poisoning. For most girls it started with tooth
decay, so The dentist would remove the rotten teeth, already practically falling out of the girls
mouths, but the gums wouldn t heal. Instead, agonising ulcers sprouted in the holes left behind.
Very often their jawbones crumbled to the touch (Fergusson). However, instead of looking for
answers in these never before seen medical ailments, Amelia Maggia s death was reported as
syphilis. This left radium and the U.S. Radium Corporation unblemished, but instead brought
humiliation to the families of the innocent girls like Amelia. As we see the radiation begin to
poison more and more unknowing citizens, it becomes clear that it is those side effects that act as
the equivalent of the hamartia in the tragic model, as it takes control of the entire element just as
ambition took full control of Macbeth without him realizing

Gender Roles In The Chase By Annie Dillard
How much do gender roles mean to you? In the story, The Chase by Annie Dillard, a young girl,
Annie, grows up in a town where being a girl didn t affect how she grew up. When Annie was a
child she played football, baseball and threw snowballs with the boys. So as you can see being a
girl in Annie s neighborhood didn t affect her, but as everyone grows up, we all realize that gender
roles really do matter. We all probably grew up with boys and girls, but all places were different.
One might have grown up in a town where you weren t allowed to do certain things because you
were a girl. Otherwise, someone might have grown up in a town where nobody really cares about
whether you were a boyor a girl. Either way, throughout my childhood, rules and roles were all
based on whether you were a boy or a girl, and as I moved on through my life, I realized that those
gender roles mean a lot more as we grow older.
Annie Dillard grew up in a neighborhood, I would assume much like mine. Being a girl didn t
matter, having long hair and wearing dresses didn t matter to her, but one might have grown up
in different situation. When I was growing up, I had an older brother, Cameron, that is 10 years
older than me. At the age of 18 he went off into the USMC and me, as an 8 year old, didn t really
realize how brave he was. Cam spend 8 years in the Marines, and when he arrived home I realized
how many boy AND girls had joined the military. Hearing stories from him made me realize that no

How Does Dickens Use Satire In A Tale Of Two Cities
Satire, or the use of exaggeration, incongruity, reversal, and parody to draw attention to and
criticize the flaws of individual people or society as a whole, was used centuries ago and is still
used today because of a satirist s ability to creatively address issues they see. Throughout A Tale of
Two Cities, Charles Dickens effectively uses satireto encourage social reform in a society he saw
was in dire need of it. Describing Darnay s first trial, Dickens uses incongruity when comparing
blue flies to the mob that has gathered to watch his trial. After the Attorney General had stopped
talking, a buzz arose in the court as if a cloud of great blue flies were swarming about the
prisoner, in anticipation of what he was soon to become (Dickens 69). A crowd of people is not
the same thing as a swarm of flies, but by juxtaposing these two things, Dickens draws attention to
the crowd s tendency to act like a swarm of flies obnoxious and unable to think for... Show more

Astonishingly, just to take the hot chocolate to the Monseigneur s mouth from the cup it took four
men, all four a blaze with gorgeous decoration, and the Chief of them unable to exist with fewer
than two gold watches (Dickens 105). Obviously, any normal human being would be able to drink
hot chocolate without the help of four additional people; however, by making it seem like the
Monseigneur would drop dead without the help of his four servants, the otherworldly wealth of the
top two percent is shown in full. Additionally, by claiming the Chief servant would cease to exist
without his two gold watches, Dickens exposes that the wealth of the top two percent, obtained
through exploitation of the third estate, is so extreme that even servants are unnecessarily
excessive. Similarly, Dickens uses satire specifically incongruity, as well as reversal when

Good Country People Character Analysis Essay Joy changes her name to Hulga in Good Country People by Flannery O Conner in order to change her perception of herself, her conflict being her identity. During Joy s contemplation, she encounter the name Hulga because she had a vision of the name working like the ugly sweating Vulcan who stayed in the furnace and to whom...the goddess had to come when called (664). Joy sympathizes for Vulcan because the god also has a physical deformity; and just like Vulcan who s the god of fire and forge, she s forging an identity for herself that can be stated her highest creative act (665). It can be interpreted that Joy has forgiven herself for her disability and sees her leg as her backbone when her mother had not been able to turn her dust into Joy but rather she had been able to turn it herself into Hulga; she accepts her own beauty and realizes she s beautiful (665). If Vulcan can be married to Venus, then she can be accepted into her own crowd, as she once said, If you want me, here I am LIKE I AM (664).... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Because she believes in the inexistence of god and meaning of life, Joy exhibits characteristic traits of awareness and fortitude, viewing herself as nothing as described when Joy said, I don t have illusions. This debate is essentially over whether a woman should have the right to do what she wishes to her body. The majority of all abortion procedures are within the first trimester of pregnancy. This means there is no harm done to the fetus because it is only in the first stages of its growth. It is a known fact that if politicians pass laws against abortions, it will not stop the procedures from happening. If anything, it will increase the number of deaths in women due to illegal and unsanitary abortions. In 1973, there was a case that went to the Supreme Court called Roe v. Wade. • 5. History And Evolution Of The Anti Feminist Movement Essay In this paper, I will be exploring in depth the history and evolution of the anti feminist movement as a reaction to feminism in the United States. As a background, I will provide a brief summary of the feminist movement and it s relation to anti feminism. Then I will go into the anti feminist movement, and it s origins, background, and main supporters. Although anti feminismwas founded as a backlash movement, it actually sparked another wave of movements itself, those of which I will explore as well. Lastly, I will look at how anti feminism has evolved over time, and it s impact on society and feminism as a whole. Although feminism in the United States can be dated back to the early 18th century, any movements or advocates during that time were scarce, and the societal influence accomplished was little to none. The feminist movement didn t really start to get started until the 19th century. 19th century through mid 20th century feminism is considered First wave feminism, which includes the suffrage movement, education reform, workplace reform, and the beginning of the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA) movements (Harding, 1981). The first wave of feminism peaked and is said to have ended with the passage of the 19th Amendment, giving women the right to vote, and putting an end to the highly influential suffrage movement. Second wave feminism is the period of the feminist movement which took place from mid to late 20th century into the 21st century (Harding, 1981). This period ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Hamlet J Alfred Prufrock J. Alfred Prufrock is middle aged, man who lives a very mundane and boring life style. He sounds to be a tall skinny, bald man who is extremely self conscious. the town he lives in I don t he enjoys by the descriptions of sawdust restaurant and cheap hotels. The restaurants atmosphere is one of a doctor/patient environment awaiting so sort of procedure. He lacks imagination and sees the world through gloomy lenses by his description of the fog being the color of yellow. Eliot shows Alfred Purfrock as a titular character a few different ways through out the poem. I believe for hims to be an award sort of fellow due to the irregular rhyme of the poem. He also appears to be nervous and over thinks situations this is shown in his analogy of measuring the meaning of his life with spoons. He lives in the shadows of ignorant women who speak of Michelangelo. He speaks of Prince Hamelt towards the end of the poem, No! I am not Prince Hamlet, nor was meant to be (Eliot p. 654). Prince Hamlet was the titular character in Hamlet by William Shakespeare, a man who was also indecisive and hesitant, though could be impulsive at times. Alfred shown to have low self esteem by the quote, When I am pinned and wriggling on the wall (Eliot p. 652) he overthinks situations, especially social situation, fearing what people will think of him. Throughout the majority of the poem he exhibits social anxiety and the thought he would disturb the universe. Prufrock compares his need to express his feelings as if he was Lazarus who came back from the dead...a little dramatic if you ask me (Eliot line 94 95). Yet, we see him assume the worse sinario and the girl response to him is one of confusion. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock. By examining memory represented in animation and film, through Bartlett s theory of schema, we can see how the film develops an active organized method to recognize reality through memory. This paper is examining five films based on the theme of memory, thus arguing that imagination does not distorted memory in animation, but create a role as a form of embellishment for the film to help memory. In the film Mean Creek directed by Jacob Aaron Estes, the important idea of loss of innocence is very interesting as it tells the story and shows us how quickly things can change. The director shows us this through the way the characters change during the burial of George, the word snap written in a tree and the guilt felt by Millie and Sam. A wide shot is used to show George sitting down by himself, this shows how lonely he is and makes us actually feel sympathy towards him. This is followed by silence which shows how Sam doesn t want to hurt George. This emphasises the innocence of Sam as he did not wish to do anything which could result in the death of George. This Quote foreshadows the death of George. As a viewer tension builds u as we wait the events that link to the death. After the death of George, Millie engraves the word Snap into a tree. This is significant as it shows how life can change as fast as the snap of the fingers. A foley effect is used on the scratching of the knife on the tree to show Millie s anger and how she feels they have not only turned flipped there life upside down but they took a life and destroyed Georges relatives lives. The foley effect turns your attention the Millie as the viewer anticipates what she is writing .we now see how just 24 hours before they were all living a normal happy life but now they are emotionally distort and stumped for a conclusion of what to do. • 31. The People Over Weight And Obese In today society the majority of people are over weight. The USA is considered to have the most people over weight and obese. So what is wrong with our system of eating ? Why are other countries considered to be healthier then the US. Part of the reason is the way we where brought up. And another reason is the the foods we are given at easy access. But that isn t to say the stores don t play a role in the way that you shop. So what could be a solution to living a healthier life style. Being healthy is a lot more then being lean, its about being smart enough to not letting the stores trick you into buying what they want you to buy, and rather what you need to buy. When you walk into the store to buy milk, bread, meat, and produce. You ll notice that all those things tend to be at the back of the store. They are forcing you to walk through the middle ails where all the unnecessary things they want you to buy are located. So by the time you ve reached the back of the store you have 5 10 items that you didn t intend to buy. Another example is placement on the shelves. The majority of people are right handed so they will make more right turns and as they turn to the right with the cart they place things at eye level to the right so it will catch your eye. Another tactic is since many countries in the world read left to right they place the higher marked items on the left in hope you ll buy the more expensive product before getting to the cheaper alternative on the right. ... Napoleon s 1799 coup to become the First Consul of the Republic, was the start of one of the biggest political and societal reforms the world had ever seen. Napoleon was desperate to prove he was a just leader, he wanted to ensure the aims of the French Revolution became law; this was notably seen with the implementation of the Napoleonic Code, replacing the patchwork of Feudal Laws that had previously existed. The document established the Republic as the first European country to create a Civil Legal System, a modern and simpler concept that existed to serve the entire population. Napoleon s reforms were unlike anything Europe had seen before and set the French First Republic at the forefront of political innovation. France had become an example by which many European countries would follow in the century to come. How Does Dickens Use Satire In A Tale Of Two Cities Satire, or the use of exaggeration, incongruity, reversal, and parody to draw attention to and criticize the flaws of individual people or society as a whole, was used centuries ago and is still used today because of a satirist s ability to creatively address issues they see. Throughout A Tale of Two Cities, Charles Dickens effectively uses satireto encourage social reform in a society he saw was in dire need of it. Describing Darnay s first trial, Dickens uses incongruity when comparing blue flies to the mob that has gathered to watch his trial. After the Attorney General had stopped talking, a buzz arose in the court as if a cloud of great blue flies were swarming about the prisoner, in anticipation of what he was soon to become (Dickens 69).
