2. Morte D Arthur Code Of Chivalry
A Knight s Honor:
An Analysis of Chivalry Throughout history, people of certain cultures base their lives off special
rules, or codes. The Anglo Saxons took examples from the epic hero of Beowulf. Knights during King
Arthur s rule lasted by the code of Chivalry. Lessons from this honorable code can be extracted from
the text of Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, as well as from Morte D Arthur. Each of these
memorable pieces of literature show examples of the code of chivalry. The three aspects of chivalry
are courage, honor, and self control. To begin, the first form of chivalry can be clearly found in both
texts and portrays courage. Kings would knight men in return for their promise of courage, honor and
respect from the generous man. Courage is first found in The Green Night when an audacious man
named Gawain steps in to accept the challenge demonstrated from the Green Knight himself. Toward
the king doth now incline: I beseech, before all here, That this melee may be mine. Gawain
demonstrates chivalry by displaying the courage to accept a fatal challenge. Heroism is also presented
in the text of Morte D Arthur. This scrap of literature tells about the closing moments of the glorious
King Arthur. Even in his deathly state, Arthur shows the quality of bravery by battling for his kingdom
after the brutal battle that left all but four men dead. Now, tide me death, tide me life, ... now I see him
yonder alone, he shall never escape mine hands.

3. Analysis Of Lucy By Jamaica Kincaid
In Lucy, Jamaica Kincaid explores the disillusionment faced by the eponymous character upon
immigrating to the United States. The novel s style of narration allows Lucy s thoughts and emotions
to remain hidden. Despite this intense privacy, Lucy s disillusionment is clear. She had hoped that
moving around the globe would solve her problems but she still struggles with homesickness and her
relationship with her mother. Her move is disappointing. The erasure poem And Coldest also engages
disillusionment. The poem suggests the speaker has become disillusioned by observing the world, and
indicates their plan to be shut tight. The poem inspired me to consider the causes of Lucy s
disillusionment, and her failure to address her own emotions. As a recent immigrant, the causes of
Lucy s disillusionment are somewhat obvious. More enigmatic is her self avoidant, shut tight attitude.
In this paper, I argue that Lucy s disillusionment causes her to avoid the discomfort that comes with
self reflection.
Lucy s experience in the United States is dissatisfactory from the moment of her arrival onwards. She
describes her first night as gray black and cold and notes that no one told her January would be cold
(Kincaid 3 5). This comment marks the intensity of Lucy s transition. And Coldest, too, opens with an
unforgiving winter. The first lines, cold, and coldest, reflect not only the season but Lucy s experience
of it she has never experienced a night so cold. The unfamiliar season

4. Virgina Woolf and Feminism Essay
Virginia Woolf is often categorized as being an aesthetic writer. Most of her works played largely on
the concept of suggestion. They addressed many social issues especially those regarding feminine
problems. Woolf was acutely aware of her identity as a woman and she used many of writings as
outlets for her frustrations. According to her doctrine, the subjugation of women is a central fact of
history, a key to most of our social and psychological disorders (Marder 3). The two works I will focus
on is A Room of One s Own and A Society from Monday or Tuesday. They are both works that
challenge the roles of men and women.
In A Room of One s Own the narrator begins an exploration of women in literature. She attempts to
answer many ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The narrator creates a scene with the Professor writing at his desk. She describes his expression as
being angry and emotional and uses several scenarios to explain why he is so angry. First she
describes him as being ugly. Then she suggests that maybe his wife is being unfaithful. I think the
narrator uses these examples because they are all frivolous. She is suggesting that the Professor s
anger is centered on a distrust and resentment towards women. In her opinion, these men are so
blinded by their anger that they cannot think logically.
After leaving the library the narrator goes out for lunch. While glancing at a newspaper she notices the
different headlines. All the articles about men seem to be glorifying their achievements, while the ones
about women were controversial. Woolf writes: The most transient visitor to this planet, I thought,
who picked up this paper could not fail to be aware, even from this scattered testimony, that England
is under the rule of a patriarchy (1624). I think the narrator says this to emphasize the power and
influence of man.
At this point the narrator is using the Professor to represent man. She points the many important roles
he plays such as Foreign Secretary, race horse owner, and CEO. However, despite having money and
power he is still angry. The narrator then suggests that these men lack self confidence. It is known that
people who are lacking in

5. Rhetoric In Optimus Prime
Who am I? and Why am I here? Optimus Prime s final words are used by Michale Bay to reflect the
human curiosity, which often leaves us searching answers beyond our existence. He also uses these
biblical rhetorics to give the Autobots, who are equivalent to protagonists in the transformers serious,
a higher purpose in the movie, which is to act as a shield from the Decepticons, ie. the antagonists, and
prevent mankind from extinction. The centrally aligned juxtaposed visual of Optimus Prime the
Autobot hero, riding the robotic dinosaur, represents the enduring nature of the story, repressing both
the past and the future, while the robotic heroes and machines seen in the poster foreshadow far in to
the possible future, the visual of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The designer uses this posture to convey the superiority of this character, and those of his kind in the
movie, who protect the mankind from extinction. The use of bright red and blue colors for this
character in contact with the darker colors used for the deceptions, are used to show the forces of light,
which are the autobots in this case, standing against the forces of darkness, the decepticons. The visual
hierarchy used by the designer also introduces a theme of good vs. evil, which is seen throughout the
movie; the good character is placed on top of the bad character, which conveys the dominance of good
over evil. The audience is then immediately draws to the three central characters below, who are seen
to be running hand in hand from the obliteration. The gesture of the human characters holding hands
also supports one of the most important phrases in the movie; Stand together of face extinction , and
brings out the unity of mankind that prevails throughout the film. Furthermore, the contrasting sizes
used for the humans and the machines is also used to convey their importance in the movie, which isn

6. Virginia Woolf s Mrs. Dalloway Essay
Virginia Woolf s Mrs. Dalloway Imagination is the one weapon in the war against reality. Jules de
Gaultier Set just after one of England s worst tragedies, Virginia Woolf s 1925 novel Mrs. Dalloway is
a vivid picture of the effects of World War I on London s high society, often in glaring contrast to the
effects of shell shock suffered by war veteran Septimus Smith. For members of high society, the War s
impact is largely indirect, mainly affecting their conversations at posh social functions. Although the
war has had little impact on these people, some strive to develop a deeper understanding of the War s
main consequence: death. For Septimus, who has endured the direct impact of the War as a soldier,
however, the memories ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although a small point, it is necessary to add that even Septimus s wife, Rezia, though not in the same
social circle as Clarissa, sees the impacts of the War as ordinary. When reflecting on Septimus s
tendency to talk to his dead friend, Evans, Rezia thinks, [Evans] had seemed a nice quiet man; a great
friend of Septimus s, and he had been killed in the War. But such things happen to everyone. Everyone
has friends who were killed in the War (64). This statement is to Rezia a mere fact, which highlights
that she, like those in Clarissa s circle, is also blissfully ignorant of the horrors involved in the War,
drawing attention to the insurmountable gulf that exists between Septimus s experience of the War,
and everyone else s imagined perception of it. Indeed, the relaying of information as mentioned above
often serves as entertainment for the upper class throughout the novel, even if the entertainment is
derived from such a serious topic as war related casualties. Even though millions were killed, and
many injured, Clarissa s class typically cannot comprehend the brutality experienced by soldiers in
combat, much less the unrelenting stresses and images that follow them long after they have left the
battlefield. However, high society cannot ignore such cases of human suffering, so they become a sort
of fashionable topic. At Clarissa s party, for example, Lady Bradshaw treats the subject almost
casually,

7. Summary Of The Man In The Water By Roger Rosenblatt
Emergencies always seem to bring out the most amazing qualities in people. In the article, The Man in
the Water , the author, Roger Rosenblatt, writes about the crash of Air Florida Flight 90 and the
unknown man who saved many lives that day. Rosenblatt uses comparisons, quotations, and tone to
show a contrast between the plane crash and the man in the water, belittling the crash and elevating
the man to a heroic status. Rosenblatt uses multiple comparisons in the article to support his views on
the crash. In fact, the first sentence of the article, as disasters go, this one was terrible, but not unique,
certainly not among the worst on the roster of U.S. air crashes, is a comparison (Rosenblatt 1). This
sentence immediately lowers the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When the author writes, there was nothing very special in any of it, except death, which, while always
special, does not necessarily bring millions to tears or to attention, he is writing his opinion of the
plane crash (Rosenblatt 1). The author s tone in this sentence is indifferent, almost to the point of
callousness. It shows his lack of interest in the crash, and he writes that it is not really that important.
The author also writes his opinion on the man in the water s sacrifice, writing, the man man in the
water pitted himself against an implacable, impersonal enemy; he fought it with charity; and he held it
to a standoff. He was the best we can do (Rosenblatt 3). The author s tone here suggests that the man
in the water was fully conscious of his decision to fight nature and in fact volunteered to do so, all
while knowing he would not survive. He then goes on to state that this selflessness is the best of all
possible human reactions to the event. This further glorifies the man, now to perfection. The author s
tone throughout the article gives great insight into his beliefs on the subjects of the disaster of Air
Florida Flight

8. Definition Essay On Underdogs
At first I didn t quit understand the meaning of an underdog . Without reading and asking for the
definition I really believed that this word was a term use to define some kind of a bad day at work
(dog s day). After reading the definition on Wikipedia I truly understood that I was wrong.
An underdog, as defined by Wikipedia is : a person or group in a competition, usually in sports and
creative works, who is popularly expected to lose. The party, team, or individual expected to win is
called the favorite or top dog. In the case where an underdog wins, the outcome is anupset. An
underdog bet is a bet on the underdog or outsider for which the odds are generally higher.

Jason, with a mental disability overcame the odds by showing that being different as not an illness.
With less experience than Seabiscuits and Red, Jason showed his teammate that he could play
basketball has well as all of them. Being an assistant manager who had never played a game during
the year, he was introduced at the last few minutes of the last game and became a hero at that moment
but he showed everybody that he could play by scoring more points than everybody during the whole
game.
He was an underdog because no one believed he could play basketball and he proved everybody
wrong. He believed in himself and lived the present moment.
I ve never really seen myself as an underdog but being the only girl in a family of four kids I think it
makes me one. Since I have three brothers, we often do boys activities. They are very competitive and
often thinks that I can t be better then them. But a lot of times I win because I m stronger then they are
and I also have to prove them that I can play with them. So, like Seabicuits, Red and Jason, I m not
suppose to win against my brothers but more often then not I do...so I m an underdog and very proud
of it.
In conclusion I truly believe that there is an underdog in every one of us, you just have to believe in
yourself and you will find a way to impress and surpass

9. Wise Blood Character Analysis
Flannery O Connor was a Southern grotesque writer, who wrote about morally flawed characters
appears in her work Wise Blood, which was her first book, and this would be the first time that the
audience would be introduced to her unconventional style of writing. Wise Blood, like most of her
work, would be about the battle of sin and redemption in some form. This constant battle is faced by a
man named Hazel Motes in Wise Blood. An interesting character to say the least, he had problems
within his mind, how he was raised, and a constant battle with his views of Jesus Christ. Throughout
the novel, Jesus lurks in his mind like a shadow with no owner, and Hazel is a fish with no pond. With
that reasoning, Hazel longs for, as well as repudiates Jesus ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Once he realizes the wrong he has done, he does not know how to truly repent, so he turns to self harm
to punish himself for his sins. An article about why he done that, says, I m not clean and I must pay

Jesus had to offer at the time. Instead, like an article states, Not knowing how to repent with love he
mutilates himself (Sparrow 1). Hazel must believe self harm is the greatest repentance for Christ,
because all he wants to do is glorify God now. His repentances go to extreme levels, as an article
written by Stephen Sparrow writes, He wraps barbed wire around his chest and again wears his shoes
lined with rocks and glass shards (1). In his mind, he does not think he will ever be accepted by Christ
for what he has done. But truly, he was forgiven, because God is almighty and loves those people that
come to him. Jesus was Hazel s greatest object of desire. Jesus was always in the back of his mind,
even during his stint as an anti preacher. Such as this sentence from an article, that says, ragged figure
who moves from tree to tree in the back of Hazel s mind (Bolton 1). Throughout Wise Blood Hazel
sets out to deny God because he feels he has something to prove to the world.

For many, abandoned buildings hold keys to the past. They are places frozen in time authentic, eerie,
and intriguing all in the same. Photographer and mixed media artist Samuel Quinn is one willing to
break laws and trespass property in order to explore and capture these deserted wonders. In 2008,
while in the South Shore driving his friend home, Quinn passed an eye catching abandoned white
house that stood lifeless in between two simple suburban homes. Two years later, in need of a new
project, he traveled back to the house and began taking photographs for his portfolio A Houses Echo,

A closed door with its decorated frame stands next to it. Quinn uses photo manipulation to project a
slide of one of the pictures left in the home. It is a vacation photo taken by a family who once lived in
the house. In it, we see a lake with a reflection traveling towards brownish black mountains topped
with snow. Much of the wedding dress and the door are transparent, allowing the whole vacation
photo to be visible. An antique light fixture accompanies a wide open doorway on the right wall. The
picture plane is confined to a relatively small space. It is mostly made up of straight lines, the majority
of them being vertical or horizontal. The lines of the stair railing and the right and left walls create a
directional force traveling from the foreground to the background. While observing the print, viewers
will be able to notice a pattern of rectangles repeating throughout the image. There appears to be a
monochromatic color scheme, based on the distribution of varying shades of white, along with the
brown railing, ceiling wood, and stain in the lower corner of the right wall. This could also be
considered a neutral color scheme.
In Untitled 5 , viewers see the interior corner of a room on the upper floor of the abandoned house. As
with all of his photographs, Quinn staged this scene. He discovered three wooden picture frames lying
on the floor and positioned them on the adjacent green walls that face the viewers.

good action or any good by others, but for the doer of the action ( good ), the activity will be perceived
as good and that it will bring a favorable outcome. Aristotle also said that all of our actions resulting in

In the end, Aristotle argues that [the best life or the happiest life is a life where the agent does
everything or lives their life for the sole purpose of philosophical contemplation]5. He also wrote that
a person must be fully intelligent, in order to live a life of happiness, since life is an activity of virtues.
This excluded babies, because of their age they can t participate in the activity and it also excluded
animals for the same reasoning.
In the course of reading Nicomachean Ethics Book I, one of the problems I have encountered is the
generalizations that Socrates makes about happiness. He says that the highest activity must be in
accordance with the virtue. So these virtues are being defined as being virtues only if they lead to
happiness. But what about virtues that exist but don t lead to happiness or maybe they can not be
explained as leading to happiness. For example courage or justice. Somebody can be courageous
naturally, then does this mean then they don t have a happy life?
The second problem I have come across is that Aristotle said that in order to profit from the study he
undertook, one must already have been brought up in good habits. Then he means that his audience
must consist of people who already have retained virtues. This would very much limit the audience. It
would not address people who have doubts or are not sure about the values of traditional virtues and

may be a crime series, because there are characteristics in the three crimes which overlap. However,
there are also instances in each case which differ from one another and thus the case should be
investigated as a potential series but the analysts should not overlook the possibility that these are
unrelated, coincidental crimes. 3. Were there any clues that may help establish the identity of either of

story there are different things not seen by just reading the story and not thinking about the deeper
meaning behind it. Such as in origin myths there are cultural characteristics. Cultural characteristics
are the beliefs of a culture in which its society is based off of. These cultural characteristics can be
seen as a blend of beliefs that tie the people to the land around them. This is very evident when
looking at the creation stories of ingenious people. Each culture has different characteristics. For
example the indigenous creation stories called The Earth on Turtle s Back , When Grizzlies Walked
Upright , and the Navajo origin legend; all have characteristics of the Native American culture. Such
as the Native American cultural characteristics that you should respect animals, nature, and elders.
Those cultural characteristics are very evident throughout the first two stories. The third creation story
has different cultural characteristics. The story The Earth on The Turtle s back has many cultural
characteristics throughout the story. They are there, but they are hidden within story throughout the
text. For example in the text the chief tells his wife that her dreams have power. After that the chief
digs up the tree, and for the Onondaga, they believe that powerful dreams should come true. Another
example of cultural characteristics throughout the text is the

21. Atlantic Transformations
The Earth has undergone a series of physical transformations throughout its history, and every
transformation changes the way things such as water currents, heat circulation, and climate manifest.
Twenty million years ago, the Atlantic and Pacific oceans flowed freely between North and South
America because there was no land barrier between them, which meant that the salinity of the oceans
were similar. This meant that warm water vapor wasn t being carried up to the North Atlantic, like
happens today. When the pacific plate was pushed under the Caribbean plate volcanoes, islands, and
eventually the body of land that connects North and South America formed. This caused the currents
of the Atlantic and Pacific oceans to go towards the north,

22. Early Childhood Dementia
Dementia
What exactly is dementia? By definition, Dementia, which is from the Latin word dement meaning
without mind, is a progressive deterioration and eventual loss of mental ability that is severe enough to
interfere with normal activities of daily living, lasts more than six months, not present since birth, and
not associated with a loss or alteration of consciousness (Thomasson, 2014). Dementia is usually
caused by a loss of brain cells in the cerebral cortex of the brain, the part responsible for thoughts,
memory, actions, and personality (Thomasson, 2014). The loss of brain cells in this part of the brain
usually leads to what is called cognitive impairment which can at some point be diagnosed as
dementia (Thomasson, 2014). What a lot of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Truly, there are many different kinds of dementias, and some may even lead to other types of similar
diseases (Thomasson, 2014). Some major types of dementias are early onset dementia (EOD), non

European Journal of Neurology held a study looking deep into the prevalence of early onset dementia
because the disorder seems to be so much more prevalent in older aged people (Lambert, 2014). They
released a systematic review of charts which determined that a number of people can develop
symptoms at a younger age and that early onset dementia, even though it s not that frequent in young
people, early onset dementia and its symptoms still exist (Lambert, 2014) Pick s disease, Parkinson
disease, and Huntington s disease are technically all classified as Non Alzheimer degenerative
dementias (Thomasson, 2014). Vascular dementia is a type of dementia formed by an interference of
blood flow to the brain and a severe decline in mental function (Thomasson, 2014). And infectious
dementias can either attack the brain directly, or eventually spread to it. Brain infections can be caused
by viruses, bacteria, and

23. Impact Of Trade Agreements On An International Scale
I. Introduction
Trade agreements have been around for the past several centuries, and naturally, they have evolved.
Earlier on, they were used exclusively as agreements between nations to reduce tariffs on each other s
products. Tariffs, however, were not the only way a nation could protect its industries. Trade
agreements have evolved to address this situation, and instituted measures to disincentivize
circumvention of the spirit of these agreements. Evolving still, trade agreements have now grown into
massive collectives between nations that regulate more than just trade. Moreover, these agreements
have become political tools to cement solidarity between nations, and are used to harmonize economic
regulation on an international scale. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
More than just economic integration, however, the TPP presented an opportunity for the United States
to alter the economic power dynamics in the Asia Pacific. As the lead on TPP, the United States would
have been able to shape regional trade in the Asian Pacific to its benefit by building a network
surrounding China. Specifically, opening markets to Asia would allow for the United States to craft
the economic rules in the Asian Pacific to preference TPP states, which in effect, would make it harder
for a competing regulatory environment to be enacted.
Obama s stance was rooted in keeping the international status quo while trying to break into Asia and
counteracting China s economic clout in the region. Newly elected President Donald Trump, however,
has already come out and stated his opposition to the TPP; indeed, going so far as to include US
withdrawal from the TPP as part of his agenda for his first day in office.
The TPP has faced public scrutiny during this election year particularly because of the North
American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), which has been decried by the public for some time. Loss
of American jobs has largely fueled the outrage at NAFTA, but other issues exist as well. For example,
TPP provisions on investor rights, like in NAFTA the Investor State Dispute Settlement (ISDS)
process would allow international arbitral bodies to hear challenges to a state s legal rules. This

24. Thomas Robert Malthus Essay
Thomas Robert Malthus
Thomas Robert Malthus is one of the most controversial figures in the history of economics. He
achieved fame chiefly from the population doctrine that is now closely linked with his name. Contrary
to the late eighteenth century views that it was possible to improve people s living standards, Malthus
held that any such improvements would cause the population to grow and thereby reverse these gains.
Malthus also sparked controversy with his contemporaries on issues of methodology (by arguing that
economics should be an empirical rather than a deductive science), over questions of theory (by
holding that economies can experience prolonged bouts of high unemployment), and on policy issues
(by arguing against free ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In addition to the controversies surrounding his principle of population, Malthus became embroiled in
important debates with Ricardo over British Poor Laws and Corn Laws, the benefits of free trade, and
the possibility of gluts or insufficient demand for goods.
In mid eighteenth century England the industrial revolution was in full swing. However, workers lived
near the level of physical subsistence, and their condition worsened in latter half of the eighteenth
century. Monotony and repetition characterized factory work; the tyranny of the factory clock and the
pace of the assembly line were beyond the control of all workers. The division of labor, praised by
Adam Smith in The Wealth of Nations as the means to productivity growth and rising living standards,
made work so routine that women and children could perform jobs just as easily as men. Business
owners logically preferred such workers because they could be hired for less.
These circumstances gave rise to numerous champions of the working class. Among the best known
were the Marquis de Condorcet, Robert Owen and William Godwin. Condorcet (1795) argued that
greater economic equality and more security for workers would improve their material well being.
Toward this end he advocated two reforms a welfare system to provide security for the working poor,
and government regulation of credit to keep down interest rates so that needy families could borrow
money at lower cost. Owen attempted to develop

25. The Importance Of Education In The Arts
Throughout my academic career I have repeatedly been exposed to the topic of education in the arts.
More specifically, I encountered the debate of whether art programs should be funded by school
districts. I never quite understood why it was such a big question, but many oppose the idea, due to the
belief that art is not a necessity. I would consider those people who disagree with art funding idiotic;
as I consider it an absolute necessity that school districts provide funding for the arts. One of the most
obvious reasons why school districts should fund arts education is that it is crucial when tapping into
one s creativity. Creative thinking is important to one s ability to open their mind to new and
innovative ideas, that can lead to wonderful discoveries. Those on the opposing side consider creative
thinking to be an untamed and unconventional process that has no real significance or importance to
society and success. I beg to differ as our society would not be able to thrive as it does and will
continue without creative minds. It took a creative mind to develop social media, the internet, and
profitable clothing companies. Without creativity we would not have the things that make our society
so advanced. The arts deserve a place in the school system as a means to encourage and motivate
children and adolescents to strive for success, and to create things that could change the world.
Allowing the arts in an educational setting can positively influence a student s

rainforest was cleared between 1960 and 1990. It is also estimated that approximately 7.5 million
hectares of rainforest are being cut down each year. This is extremely unlikely to be replaced. The
Amazon rainforest is in extreme danger. Developments such as deforestation are proving to be a huge

Numerous types of developments have taken place in the Amazon rainforest. The aim of this is to
bring wealth to the area by using its natural resources. . A large amount of iron ore, gold, copper,
bauxite and other minerals have been discovered in the rainforest. Mining companies have cut down

Much of life results from choices we make. How we meet every circumstance, and also how we allow
those circumstances to affect us dictates our life. In Anton Chekhov s The Lady With the Little Dog,
we are given a chance to take a look inside two characters not unlike ourselves. As we are given
insight into these two people, their character and nature unfolds, presenting us with people we can
relate to. Even if we fail to grasp the fullness of a feeling or circumstance, we are still touched on our
own level, evidencing the brilliance of Chekhov s writing. In the exposition of the story, Chekhov
immediately delves into his character generation, introducing us to both Anna Sergeevna and Dmitri

Sex, lies, and deceit do take place, but they are all off stage. Chekhov takes this critical time to
develop character, showing us what is going on inside the souls of the adulterers, rather than
sensationalizing on the outside events that are all too popular in today s society (as well as back when
the story was written). Although Chekhov s story is filled with complex issues of moral struggle and
turmoil, it is a story we can all relate to. Everyone faces difficult decisions in life, and Chekhov brings
the inner mayhem to light. Focus upon people rather than events impacts us in ways we cannot even
describe. We are connected to the people in the story as we identify with the feelings and personalities
of these fictional characters. Everything that he [Gurov] found important, interesting, necessary, in
which he was sincere and did not deceive himself, which constituted the core of his life, occurred in
secret from others (Chekhov 154). We are forced to reflect upon circumstances in our own lives, and
all of life s little nuances become significant once we realize that they affect the fiber of our being.

29. The Theme Of Compassion Mercy
THE THEME OF COMPASSION MERCY IN THE GOSPEL OF LUKE BY LYNETTE IDIO
Achievement Standard 91724
The Greek word, eleos, best translates into mercy and compassion . It is significant that eleos appears
six times in Gospel of Luke, also known as, the Gospel of Mercy . Compassion is a powerful
awareness of concern for other s suffering and feeling sympathy. While mercy is the exercised virtue
of forgiving, founded on compassion. Simply, mercy is putting the emotional connection of sympathy
or pity of others into action. These Catholic virtues are especially highlighted within the Catholic
Church s current teaching amid our 2016 Jubilee Year of Mercy (8th December 2015 to 20th
November 2016). Pope Francis calls Catholic all over the world to bring Jesus mission here on Earth.
to bring a word and gesture of consolation to the poor, to proclaim liberty to those bound by new
forms of slavery in modern society, to restore sight to those who can see no more because they are
caught in themselves, to restore dignity to all those from whom it has been robbed. (n.16)
The Gospel of Luke thoroughly illustrates the themes of mercy and compassion in his use of literary
devices such as symbols, stories and parables. Luke urges how significant it is to feel and deliver the
ready willingness to help anyone in need in our society. The Gospel offers a model to live out these
virtues through Jesus actions and his parables.

human population, or carrying capacity, for the U.S. is projected to be 200 million, which is way
fewer than the current population of the United States. This is a growing problem in not only the

If we could drop the rate of the people reproducing that aren t financially capable of raising children
then we could drop the carrying capacity rate making our natural resources more abundant.
Reproducing was looked at very differently 150 years ago, when lifespans were shorter, it was
important to the survival of humanity for young women to bear children at an early age. Today, with
longer lives due to modern medicine and sanitation, more infants are surviving childhood, and adults
are living longer lives (World Population Awareness). If women continue to have children at younger
ages and the birth rate continues to stay the same for the normal bearing mothers then we will
continue to have a major increase in our population. It is said that if a region is experiencing a net
population growth rate (even 1% doubles in 70 years), or if it is already exceeding carrying capacity, it
is important for sex education, family planning, and self esteem programs to be concentrated on young
women in their teen years (World Population Awareness). The more teens that are reproducing at a
younger age the more problems we will face in the future with lack of natural resources. If teens are

Vertebrate melanopsin phototransduction shares similarities with invertebrate type opsin, which
responds to light via activating a Gq protein (Gq)/ phospholipase C (PLC) signaling cascade5.
Previous studies demonstrated a solar ultraviolet radiation (UVR) sensitive phototransduction pathway
in human epidermal melanocytes6,7,8,9. Specifically, UVR triggered a Gαq/11/PLCβ signaling
pathway, which led to phosphatidylinositol (4,5) bisphosphate (PIP2) hydrolysis to create
diacylglycerol (DAG) and inositol 1, 4, 5 trisphosphate (IP3), and thus activated the transient receptor
potential ankyrin 1 (TRPA1). The influx of Ca2+ and Na2+ depolarized the cell9. The recent
discovered light sensitive DRG neurons also innervate the skin and exhibit non image forming light
responses. It s likely that opsin X has a downstream signal cascade similar to the pathway
characterized in opsin of human epidermal melanocytes and in non image forming melanopsin in
retinal ganglion cells. Therefore, the current study is to characterize the G protein pathway that is
responsible for light transduction as well as to determine whether the light sensitive DRG shares a
similar pathway as human epidermal melanocytes. This project will test the central hypothesis that
light stimulation activates the Gα /PLC signaling pathway, and then opens the TRP channel as well as
depolarizes the cell.

39. The Effect Of Inverse Square Law On A Beam Of X Ray Photons
Experiment 1
Introduction:
The aim of this experiment is to investigate the effect of the inverse square law on a beam of x ray
photons. The inverse square law states that the intensity of an x ray beam is inversely proportional to
the square of the distance (Ball, J.L., Moore, A.D. and Turner, S., 2008). Similar triangles (Appendix
A Image 1) are a proof of the inverse square law as it shows that if the distance from the beam is
doubled, the intensity falls to one quarter of its original value. If it is trebled the intensity falls to one
ninth and at four times the distance it is one sixteenth its value, etc (Holmes, K., Elkington, M. and
Harris P., 2013). The formula used to calculate this is:
This law only applies if the radiation is from a point source, the radiation of the beam is homogenous
(the photons must all have the same energy) and if there is no attenuation between the source of
radiation and the detector (Holmes, K., Elkington, M. and Harris P., 2013). However, the x ray beam
cannot satisfy these three conditions of the inverse square law. This is because the x rays produced are
not emitted from a true point source as the focal spot has a finite size. They are not emitted equally in
all directions as the anode heel effect causes the intensity to vary across the beam and the absorption

40. Machiavelli’S The Prince Was Written During The Early Years
Machiavelli s The Prince was written during the early years of the sixteenth century and was one of
the most profound and controversial pieces of literature to emerge from the Renaissance. The political
treatise was written for Lorenzo de Medici in hopes that he would use the principles taught in it to rule
in Italy. Machiavelli planned for the piece of literature to impress Medici and hopefully persuade him
to give Machiavelli a position within the Italian government, a position that he longed to go back to.
The Medici family ultimately never implemented any of Machiavelli s recommendations, but one
could find examples of famous rulers from the past that exemplify Machiavelli s ideal ruler. The
Prince is a timeless piece of literature ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At the very least, one could say that the books influence spread much farther than the author intended
or even expected to. According to Machiavelli, there are four main ways that a prince is able to come
to power. The first way to achieve power is through prowess (personal skill and ability). The second
way is through fortune, which means good luck. The third way is through corruption; examples would
be to attain power through a rebellion, plot, or assassination. The fourth and last way is constitutional,
meaning to attain power by support from either the nobles or commoners. The most important
comparison to be made between these four ways is between prowess and fortune. Attaining a state
through prowess is clearly going to be more difficult than profiting from sheer good fortune, however;
a prince that is blessed with prowess is more likely to hold a strong foundation on his rule, whereas a
man with fortune is erratic and unpredictable which potentially leads to a prince s overthrow just as it
had to his rise. That being said, preserving a prince s power is far easier when said prince attained
power through his own cleverness. Being that the preservation of power is essential to Machiavelli, he
determines that prowess is the better of the two routes for becoming a prince. Another similarity can
be made amongst the criminal and constitutional methods of attaining control. The main

41. Wild Beast Research Paper
Wild Beasts By: Ethan Does anyone know how to tame a vicious animal with smooth and silky
butter? In Swiss Family Robinson, the Robinson family carefully and sometimes savagely caught and
tamed some vicious animals. This essay will show how they tamed a mischievous donkey and an
impatient ostrich. The family tamed a troubling donkey. Like any wild animal, it had to be caught with
a rope. After catching the donkey, they tied it to a juicy fruit tree and they started the boring taming
process. While it was tied to the tree, it had a rope tied around its legs and neck, so whenever it tried to
run away, the rope choked it. Consequently, the donkey learned to stay on command, allowed a saddle,
and side eye covers.

42. Side Effects Of Birth Control
According to some researchers, birth control pills should not be used by women who have a history of
breast cancer, endometrial cancer, undiagnosed vaginal bleeding, liver tumors or disease, increased
clotting or stroke risk, or if pregnant. Smoking increases the risk of serious heart side effects when
using a combined estrogen and progestin birth control, including the ring or the patch. Combination
estrogen and progestin birth control should not be used in women over 35 years of age who smoke due
to an increased risk of rare but serious side effects, such as heart attack, blood clots, and stroke.
Women of any age should avoid combination hormonal birth control if they have a history of
uncontrolled high blood pressure, chest pain, diabetes,

43. Synthesis Of Aniline Lab Report
The synthesis required that the starting materials contain an aniline and aldehyde in order to produce
an imine, which is a primary amine. Using p chlorobenzaldehyde and p bromoaniline along with the
addition of dichloromethane and, in some cases, a water trapping reagent, the group was able to
synthesize 4 bromo N [4 (chlorophenyl)methylene] benzenamine. Three different reactions using the
same reactants but different water trapping agents were employed in order to determine which
trapping agent, either molecular sieves or sodium sulfate, would remove the most water and leave the
purest product. Upon completion of TLC, melting point analysis, as well as IR spectrum, and 1H
NMR analysis, it was determined that the reaction using the molecular sieves produced the purest
substance. Furthermore, it was hypothesized that the molecular sieves would produce the greatest
percent yield of pure product since it is the only water trapping agent that can also separate out non

The use of methanol to dissolve any lingering impurities following the drying phase helped conclude
that the molecular sieves produced the greatest amount of pure product followed by sodium sulfate
with the monitor reaction containing no water trapping reagent having the least amount.
Introduction
The nucleophilic addition reaction of an aldehyde with an amine gave rise to an imine with the
addition of heat or an acid or base catalyst being used to speed up the product separation or removal of
water to complete the reaction. The amine acted as a nucleophile and attached itself to the aldehyde, or
carbonyl group. Imines, known as azomethines or Schiff bases, are compounds that are represented by
the general formula R3R2C=NR1.1 Schiff bases can be formed from aldehydes or ketones but an
amine is always required to complete the reaction. When it comes to biological roles, imines are
crucial intermediates for both enzymatic and pharmaceutical interest but

44. Fear In Lord Of The Flies Research Paper
The only thing we have to fear is fear itself. Franklin D. Roosevelt conveyed human nature in these
words, which painted the picture of fear s grip on our thoughts and actions. In Lord of the Flies by
William Golding, a stranded group of boys transformed to savages as they attempted to extinguish the
source of their uneasiness, only they were too late to learn that fright was not something driven away
by a stick sharpened at both ends (Golding 267). Trepidation was proven to be all controlling
throughout Golding s writing as it prompted the juveniles to kill under night s shadows while
pressuring them to act rashly to keep from being hunted by an imaginary monster.
Ironically, the terror brought on by the mysteriousness of nightfall, along ... Show more content on

All of them continually rationalized that if there was a beast out there, they had to constantly focus on
hunting and satiating it. At first, Jack claimed that fear can t hurt you any more than a dream. He even
aforementioned, There aren t any beasts to be afraid of on this island (Golding 82 83). This affirmation
momentarily soothed the children. Exploration for meat, in addition to maintaining a rescue fire, again
became the focal point of their labors. All seemed well, but one morning, while keeping up the fire,
Samneric saw the dead parachutist on the mountain. Despite having a two against one chance, they
mistook it for their worst nightmare rather than inspecting the situation further. The bright morning
was full of threats and the circle began to change. It faced out, rather than in, and the spears of
sharpened wood were like a fence (Golding 137). This was a major turning point in the novel, because
the smoke signal was no longer a priority, while the lads thoughts were consumed with fright by the
beast and the lust for hunting. In a sacrificial effort to satisfy the monster, they also left the head of
their killed pig as an offering (Golding 191). From then on, instead of focusing on being rescued,
fright converted the boys sticks to spears, in lieu of

45. Cultural Diversity In Children
This resource allows children to broaden their understanding of cultural diversity and the significance
of maintaining equality. After children have read or listened to Whoever you are , it is hoped that not
only their language and literacy skills have strengthened, but also their knowledge. It is crucial that
children are introduced to this topic from an early age and are able to discuss the differences of
cultures, although focus primarily on what makes everyone the same. Children will learn about
respect, which is a key concept of cultural diversity and should be able to utilize this attribute in their
learning environment and everyday lives.
It is evident that this children s book acknowledges the importance of culture and home learning. This
is due to the fact that the author involves children from around the world and explains that even
though we all appear different, we are all the same. It is vital that children can learn in their
environment and feel safe, therefore encouraging equality will allow this to happen. Although it is not
a bilingual text, Whoever you are ensures that children can read in their environment and discuss the
meaning of cultural diversity with their family. The values that are interpreted from the book such as
respect can also be discussed within the family or at the kindergarten (Bredekamp, 2016).
Teaching and learning strategies
1. Picture talks is a learning tool that is utilized in early education and involves a teacher displaying
illustrations in a book or a photograph, then asking the children to observe and share what they see.
This learning experience will become of benefit to children when reading Whoever you are because it
will give them an opportunity to visualize and discuss the meaning of the picture, which in this case
illustrates diversity (Fellowes Oakley, 2014, pg. 113). The book contains pictures of children from
cultures and a globe with children surrounding it, which symbolizes equality.
2. Another learning tool that could be applied whilst reading this book is conducting a class meeting,
which will enable the children to gather together to discuss the importance of cultural diversity and
share their experiences, whether it be about their

47. Hate Crimes In The FBI
According to the FBI the number of hate crimes in the US toward Jews, Muslims, and the LGBT
community. has risen dramatically over the last year. So far this year there have been a total of 6,100
incidents of hate crimes with more happening every week causing fear within several communities.
The FBI should work harder on keeping these incidents from happening by starting investigations and
preventing the events that keep occurring instead of causing more protests and violence.
The FBI is not doing enough in order to prevent the number of hate crimes in the US from rising. For
example, the FBI has openly admitted that they are not doing enough in order to track and report hate
crime. The former director of the FBI, James B. Comey stated: We
