Essay on Federalism
Federalism
Federalism is a widely accepted system of government in North American cultures. To many North
Americans it seems to be the obvious choice for all world governments, but this is not the case. In all
honesty, federalism is a fairly unique form of government. Out of approximately two hundred nations
on the earth one hundred and eighty states practice unitary forms of government, leaving only twenty
or so as federal nations (Winchester, 1999). Unitary forms of government consist of only one level of
government. These are very popular in modern day politics as they are much cheaper to run and to
maintain, while still fitting the needs of most countries. Examples of countries which use unitary
governments include France, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Federalism has a rich and influential history in North America as well as in many other parts of the
world. While it is widely believed that federalism as a principle was the brainchild of the founding
fathers of the United States of America, reference to federalism in an unrefined form was documented
in the early 1600 s. It was in this time period that the Jewish convenant in response to social and
religious persecution created a new doctrine of federal theology based on the idea of a mutual
obligation between the ruler and the ruled (Wijemanne, 1999). Essentially this was the very first
division of powers, and shared control over an area by two levels of government, all be it in a very
crude form. A more contemporary and widely accepted approach regarding the birth of federalism is
that it was essentially created with the Declaration of Independence and the gradual confederation of
the American states in the late 1700 s and early 1800 s. The United States fits the mold most common
with Federal states. Federalism was first implemented in the United States because America contained
a large plot of land which was filled with a very diverse population. Typically the only way to unite a
heterogeneous population is through a federal government because it is the only way to articulate and
protect regional interests. As the United States evolved so did federalism as an ideology and as a
political practice. Constant amendments to the

A Soldier Lays Dying On The Battlefield, Cannonballs Fly...
A soldier lays dying on the battlefield, cannonballs fly overhead. In the distance redcoats clash with
patriots. They fight for two very different ideologies. The patriots fight for the freedom of the people
and for rights they re denied under the king, while the redcoats fight for their king and power. The
revolutionaries were fighting against a power hungry tyrant, that cared for only money and power.
This relates to present day as the corporate elite fight against the people to fatten their checkbooks.
Campaign finance presses a real issue today because the people are no longer in control of the
government. Elections are bought and paid for by billionaires with certain corporate agendas in place.
Bernie Sanders has recently brought this issue up to attention claiming to campaign for the people, and
be free of super pacs. Sanders wishes for a government beholden to the people of America, not
millionaires and billionaires. On his website he stated In the year 2016, with a political campaign
finance system that is corrupt and increasingly controlled by billionaires and special interests, I fear
very much that, in fact, government of the people, by the people, and for the people is beginning to
perish in the United States of America. (Get Big Money Out of Politics and Restore Democracy

problem of the current system, it is essential to analyze: The history of campaign finance,

The group includes Warner, her ex boyfriend, Vivian, Warner s current fiancé, another girl, and two
other guys. Elle, while holding a basket of muffins asks to join their study group and mentions the
snacks she brought. Vivian immediately says no and gives Warner a nasty glare. The other girl agrees
with Vivian. Warner attempts to get the rest of the group to let Elle join, but he is quickly kicked by
Vivian under the table. Elle is trying to use an ingratiation tactic, in order to get the study group to
comply with her request to join. Compliance is when an individual seeks a specific behavior or action
through a request. There are different tactics an individual may use in order to receive compliance.
One tactic is the aforementioned ingratiation. Ingratiation is when an individual tries to make another
individual or group like him/her, so that the individual or group will comply with his/her request.
Individuals trying to get the other or others to comply may give him/her/them complements, try to
make him/her/them feel good, drop names. The ingratiation tactic is not likely to work if it is obvious
that the individual is trying to do this (Hogg and Vaughn, 2014, p. 210). Ingratiation is commonly
depicted as being negative. Liden and Mitchell argue that it can be positive and serve the general
purpose of getting others to like the individual. It typical for

Asean s Security Dilemma ( Asean )
ASEAN s Security Dilemma,
Major Powers rivalry and the ASEAN Centrality
ASEAN was officially founded in August 1967 when five founding member states jointly signed the
Bangkok declaration. Since then ASEAN experienced number of threats, such as security threat in
cold war, economic and financial threat in 1997 East Asia Economic crisis, and now being in the
security dilemma between the United States and the People s Republic of China, prominent major
powers attempting to dominate the region, despite all the threat, ASEAN set its goal to become a
community in December 2015 which has lot of potential to contribute to the world stage but it also has

The first paragraph of this essay will explain the concept of security dilemma, security issues in the
constructivist approach and the construction of identity in international relations. The second
paragraph will introduce ASEAN and its identity. The paragraph before last will mention the
interaction of the People s Republic of China and the United States of America in the region which
resulted in a security dilemma in ASEAN, then the last section will be the conclusion and the
summary of answers to the aforementioned.
The security dilemma is a fundamental concept in IR originate in John Herz s writing provided the
definition of security dilemma back in 1951 a structural notion in which the self help attempts of states
to look after their security needs tend, regardless of intention, to lead to rising insecurity to others as
each interprets its own measures as defensive and measures of others as potentially threatening (Herz,
1950: 157) which is a classic definition heavily associates with realism. In international system, where
there are no world governments or police to provide security for states as a result state exist in an
anarchy and the only way to ensure their own security is through self help. In short, security dilemmas
caused by anarchy, however, in this essay,

Qualitative Research Question 2
To answer Research Question 2, the researcher analyzed the responses of childcare staff on the SIS.
Wage and program quality data were collected from the Supplemental Information sheet (SIS) created
by the researcher (see Appendix B). Two levels of quality were: Level 1 corresponded to state
licensing such as acquiring a Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) license; Level 2
corresponded to accreditation from the National Association for the Education of Young Children
(NAEYC). There were 132 total survey responses for program quality, out of which 30 (23%) were
not NAEYC accredited and 102 (77%) were NAECY accredited. The wage per hour ranged from a
low of $ 8.50 to a high of $ 42.00. The total mean wage per hour for programs (n=105) was $ 14.50
(SD = $ 5). The mean wage per hour for Level 1 quality programs, (n=23), was $ 16 (SD = $ 6.9) and
for Level 2 quality programs was (n=82) $ 14 (SD = $ 4.5). The t test for independent means was used
to compute the average scores of one or more variables between the two unrelated groups (between
groups). The participants were tested once. The researcher conducted an independent t test to compare

Quality childcare programs for non maternal care have become a routine experience for many families
in the United States during the last quarter of the 20th century (Belsky, 2006). Considerable increase
in wages and benefits were fundamental to improving early childcare program quality; otherwise,
efforts might lead to manipulation of childcare staff versus effectiveness of program quality (Boyd,
2013). Improving program quality required professionalizing the childcare staff through professional
development training, higher education, and enhanced skills. Professional development lead to
increased wages and benefits; however, early childcare staff experienced wage stagnation or
reductions and a decrease in benefits (Boyd,

Erik The Red s Role In Viking History
Erik the Red was a Norwegian Viking that was born in the 10th Century C.E, and his life contributed
significantly to the outstanding legacy of the Vikings through his explorations. It is through the
discovery of Greenland and its later settlement that cast Erik the Red s legendary adventures into
folklore. These two events are how Erik the Red played his role in Viking history, not through warfare,
but through explorations. The adventures undertaken, and the feats achieved by Erik the Red cement
his place in Viking History.
In 982 C.E, Erik the Red sailed west from Iceland after being banished for murder, discovering a new
land which he named Greenland. After exploring the newly discovered land for two years, naming

The Hundred Days Offensive In World War One
World War One began in 1917 when Archduke Ferdinand was assassinated.
During the war, there were the Allies and Central powers along with the many battles included. The
Allied countries such as Great Britain, France, Russia, Italy, United States and Canada were opposing
the Central Powers which were Germany, Austria Hungary,
Ottoman Empire and Bulgaria. The Hundred Days Offensive was a series of battles that led to the
ending of the first world war. It led to a serious advantage to victory in World War One.
Among the hundred days were many victories for the allied powers.
Generalissimo Ferdinand Foch took advantage of the disorganization of the German army and ordered
a counter offensive. Following the counteroffensive was the Second

September 26th, the American Army attacked in the MeuseArgonne following by the British First and
Third armies the next day that attacked eastwards towards Cambrai. Following that was an attack in
Flanders and the grand finale, the attack on the Hindenburg Line. These attacks were known as the
four stage concentric offensive plan. These attacks brought Germans to their breaking point and forced
their own General Erich Von Ludendorff to seek for peace. A note was sent to the United States
president Woodrow Wilson which included the acceptance his
Fourteen Points for negotiations. Although it took many notes and discussions,
Germany finally signed an Armistice on November 11th, 1918.
Many battles were fought across the globe. Although The Hundred Days
Offensive wasn t a battle itself, it led many vicious battles which resulted to victory for the Allied
powers and brought an end to World War One. This was the happy ever after for the Allied powers.
With great leaders and ambitious ideas for attacks,

Black Tar Heroin Epidemic Analysis
One of the only foreseeable problems of truth is the representation of the heroin epidemic as just that
an epidemic. Many people see heroin abuse as a choice which it is, initially and a crime that should be
punished, not necessarily treated. Hopefully, conversations with law enforcement and medical
professionals can provide objective, expert opinions that will balance with firsthand accounts that the
audience can empathize with. This approach will seek to strike a balance between the personal and the
professional to minimize that problem of truth . Supporting assertions with evidence and expert
testimony will put objectivity at the forefront of the documentary.
Much of the documentary will be based around interviews: interviews with ... Show more content on

Black Tar Heroin (1999) is perhaps one of the best examples. Black Tar Heroin is an HBO piece that
focuses on the lives of five addicted young people and the poor decisions that arise as a result of their
abuse. While it gives some humanity to the issue of heroin addiction, it does not delve into the
overarching, underlying causes of the heroin problem in the same way that Mistakes on the Lake will
seek to. Mistakes on the Lake will be less of a slice of life piece, though it will emphasize that anyone
can get addicted to heroin. In 2016, the PBS documentary series Frontline produced a two hour
investigative episode called Chasing Heroin that sought to educate people about addiction and reach
the root of the opioid problem. Mistakes on the Lake will focus more on the stories of individuals, and
it will center specifically around the Northern Ohio region. Chasing Heroin focuses on the big picture
, the nation at large. While the issue of heroin abuse and overdose obviously did not happen overnight,
it is still a relatively new issue. Most of the literature surrounding heroin does not focus on the source
of the epidemic and the real stories of those addicted to it. For the most part, books relating to heroin
are fictionalized accounts like Dopefiend or self help books that seek to help addicts in

Teenage Pregnancy In El Paso, Texas
The discussion of why El Paso. Texas has one of the highest teenage pregnancy is a challenging one.
Is teenage pregnancy cause by lack of sex education, abstinence teaching or birth control accessibility.
I believe that the answer to teenage pregnancy is a truly difficult subject to tackle, due to the many
missing variables. Nevertheless, I think that the reason why El Paso, Texas has a high teenage
pregnancy because of the disagreement between the education system and parent s belief s on when to
teach young kids about their bodies. First, many parents believe that sex education in an early age
awakens the curiosity in young boys and girls, especially in a stage in their life when they are not

The War Theory Of War
What is War?
The term war can be defined as a clash that arises between different groups, states or nations.
Different ethnic backgrounds, religious beliefs, and scarce resources are just a few of many reasons
why such an act of violence may be practiced throughout the world. However, could a war ever be
completely just? And if so, who would be responsible for deeming what would and would not be
considered as being morally and theologically justified? This will be discussed in further detail later
on in this report.
Premise
The Just War Theory states that war can sometimes be permissible if it is satisfactorily evaluated by
the tenets of the theory. I believe that in order for a war to be just , it must always be a result of an act
of self defense against a more powerful and threatening opponent. I also believe that war should
always be considered as being the very last resort in conflict due to its many resulting consequences.
But in such circumstances, who (or what) would determine when war would be permissible?
What is Just?
The term just is difficult to perfectly define as it is ultimately based on one s own perspective.
Different upbringings and backgrounds would influence one s idea of the term just. Therefore, only an
individual who has absolutely no sense of bias would be able to carry out the task of determining
when a war would be considered justified and permissible. However, nobody is ever bias free .
Humans all come from upbringings that influence their

Federal Reserve Should Raise The Federal Funds Rate
The discussion of whether the Federal Reserve should raise the federal funds rate is a highly
contentious one. Members of the Federal Reserve ( Fed ) and academic economists disagree about
what constitutes appropriate future macroeconomic policy for the Unites States. In the past, the Fed
had been able to raise rates when the unemployment rate was under 5% and inflation was at a target of
2%. Enigmatically, since the Great Recession and despite a strengthening economy, year over year
total inflation since 2008 has averaged only 1.4% as measured by the Personal Consumption
Expenditures Price Index ( PCE ). Today, PCE inflation is at 1 1.5% and has continuously undershot
the Fed s inflation target of 2% three years in a row. (Evan 2015) In the six years since the bottom of
the Great Recession the U.S. economy has made great strides in lowering the published
unemployment rate from about 10% back down to about 5.5%. In light of this data, certain individuals
believe that the Federal Reserve should move to increase the federal funds rate in 2015 because
unemployment is near 5% and inflation should bounce back on its own (Derby 2015). However, this
recommendation is misguided.
Overview
The Federal Reserve should utilize a balanced approach to monetary policy. The current state of the
economy undershot employment and inflation goals presents no conflict in achieving a neutral state.
In fact any action that supports employment growth also moves inflation up toward our target (Evan

different experiences have shaped each woman, they are all tied together by the common thread of
strength.

My personal favorite vacation was when I was six. I flew with my family to a friend s beachfront

his family. I traveled to Italy when I was twelve, it was the first time I had left the United States. The

Censorship Of Books
In Defense of the Constitution: We Want YOU to Free the Books Francois Marie Arouet Voltaire once
said, I may disagree with what you have to say, but I shall defend, to the death, your right to say it ,
which is unfortunately not the common opinion amongst advocates of censorship across America
today (Tallentyre). Withdrawing books from the reachable shelves of libraries and schools across
America is leading to the inexcusable realm of conformity that is being found in the nation, and world,
today. Suppressing history, warping First Amendment rights, and clouding culture, the censorship of
literature in today s world is ultimately impacting society as a whole. Advisors, teachers, and

recounting the author s troubling childhood, it has been challenged by 15 U.S. states and removed

Elie Wiesel Sparknotes
Night is just one of many memoirs by Elie Wiesel, who survived the Holocaust. Wiesel feels
compelled to bear witness to the suffering that he experienced and observed in the concentration

adolescence, and the death of his naïve belief in mans innate goodness. At the beginning of the book,
with nothing else to cling onto, prisoners in camps hold onto their family members. The most
important thing to do is staying with your for as long as possible. Elie Wiesel was born on September

Tiger Cubs Essay
From a cute kitten to strong wild animal 12 Pictures
They are wild, strong and frightening, because they are tigers. It is in their nature to make you respect
them and feel obedient in front of them. But, at the time they are small kittens, they are just too sweet
to stay in the distance. Enjoy the cuteness in the following lines.
A tasteful stick
Is this stick tasteful and good for biting? This little tiger decided to explore the surroundings and to
check if the material is good enough for his teeth. Can you believe this sweet animal will grow up to
the real fighters during the time?
I m so sleepy, please don t bother me

this monkey is doing the job very good. It is not important to take care only of your kind, as showing a
big heart is the most beautiful thing in this world.
Sleepy player
There is no place like home. Sleeping in your own bed is the best thing for everyone, even for this
little kitten. Yes, he looks so tiny and helpless, but one day he will grow in a big mighty cat that will
run for the pray.
Stop tickling me!
Do you think little tigers enjoy tickling? Although this one looks like he enjoys, he still acts like an
angry wild animal that wants to bite someone around. Isn t he cute in all trials to defend himself?
May I be closer?
The cute little cub is trying to say May I sleep a bit closer to you? My brother and sister are beside

Major Feminist Criminological Perspectives
With the pass of the time, females are more involve in society. The amount of women s that stay at
home and don t go out for work has been reducing. At the same time, we see that women s have been
involved with some criminal events. Because of this, five major feminist criminological perspectives
have been creating. During this essay, three of this perspective will be exposed and explain. First,
these three perspectives will be mention and contrast from each other. Finally, these three perspectives
will be comparing with each other. First, one of the major feminist criminological perspectives is
Liberal Feminism. This attitude can be described as the first feminist perspective in criminology that

In other words, if a woman commits a crime should receive the same punishment that men receive
when he commits the same type of crime. At the same time, these liberal females challenged the
prevailing assumption that males and females have a different role in society. Another significant
feminist criminological perspective is Radical Feminism. This aspect deals with the way in which the
capitalist economic system fosters crime through the creation of a patriarchal and sexist society. This
perspective is that women have to stay at home as an unpaid housekeeping, and men have the right to
control women. In other words, women have to follow all the instructions and rules that her husband
establishes at the house. By this perspective, women s can exercise control over their bodies and the
restructuring family relationship in order to eliminate male domination. However, radical feminist
does not believe that women s liberation will increase female crime rates. Another important feminist
criminological perspective is Socialist Feminism. This view identifies the oppression of women as a
symptom of the patriarchal capitalist system. This aspect considered

The Filoviridae Family Corresponds To The Order Of...
The filoviridae family corresponds to the order of Mononegavirales. This growing family of
pathogens are filamentous, enveloped viruses with a genome that is negative stranded RNA (1
2). This family is known to be one of the most pathogenic viruses affecting humans and is mostly
found in bats (their main reservoirs) (3 4). It is believed that these viruses are transmitted from person
to person through body fluids or through objects that have been previously contaminated with body
fluids (5). After transmission and incubation period (three to
21 days), the initial symptoms are headache, fever, vomiting and diarrhea. After, the virus may cause

The envelopes of EBOV and MARV are composed of glycoproteins (GP). GP are essential for the
entry of the viruses into the host cell by attaching to its cell surface (10). GP is a homotrimer of GP1
(membrane protein) GP2 (transmembrane protein) heterodimer linked by disulfide bonds (11 12). The
mechanism on how GP1 and GP2 drive the introduction of the virus into the host cell is not well
understood yet (7). However, it is known that is characterized by three steps: attachment, uptake, and
membrane fusion (7). GP1 is involved in adhesion of the receptor with the host cell surface, whereas
GP2 is involved in the virus host cell membrane fusion and entry (13). In most cases GP1 is believed
to bind to different glycosaminoglycans
(GAG) from the host cell i.e. heparin sulfate, to be able to efficiently enter the host cell (2).
GAGs are negative, unbranched polysaccharides found in mostly all cells surfaces but differ in
composition between species (4). It is believed that GAGs are not the only possible way of attachment
for filoviruses to the host surface, meaning that there are other host factors that aid in viral entry (2).
After attachment, virions get into the host cell through micropinocytosis followed by endosome
trafficking which leads to membrane fusion (7). A low pH due to the endosomal events is what leads
to the initiation of membrane fusion (7).
G protein coupled receptors (GPCR) are the biggest and most diverse family of protein in

Analysis Of Joe Hill s Preacher Of The Slave
Preacher Casey s new purpose mirrors a historical idol from the same time period, Joe Hill. Joe Hill
was a leader of the IWW during the 1900s. Like Casey, Hill believed in striking against businesses
and led his own strikes including the Lawrence strike in 1912 and Paterson strike in 1913. Joe Hill
used songs to communicate his ideas including the preacher of the slave . In the song, Hill shows
preachers as corrupted and argues against the existence of heaven, convincing his audience that they
should focus on improving conditions they face today instead of looking for heaven for relief.
Similarly, Casey said, I wouldn t pray just for a old man that s dead, cause he s all right. If I was to
pray, I d pray for folks that s alive and don t know which way to turn , mirroring Hill s views that the
union must focus on the current conditions that mankind faces instead of looking towards death for
hope. Casey is connected to the song in a metaphorical way as he too became an advocate of justice
for workers thus becoming a metaphorical preacher of the slave in a positive way, unlike the negative
light Hill shined religious preachers in. Additionally, both of these men argued for justice, equality,
and socialism over religion. Furthermore, Joe Hill was arrested for a crime he did not commit and was
executed by the state of Utah. Similarly, Casey is caught conspiring and was beaten to death by
Pinkerton guards who acted as the police force at the time. Hill and Casey both became martyrs of
their causes, Hill inspiring the followers of the IWW and Casey inspiring his own followers, causing
the transformation of Tom Joad. In the beginning, Tom Joad s focus is the survival of himself and his
family. Tom returns from penitentiary wanting to reconnect with his family while on parole. Once
Tom is reunited with his family his focus is protecting his family. Although he does not feel as lost as
Casey, Tom too is searching for a purpose. Early on, Tom expresses some discontent with the
government because he was jailed for killing a man out of self defense. Later, after the death of
Grandpa, Tom says, seems like the government s got more interest in a dead man than a live one while
he places a note over grandpa s grave

Effects of Meditation on the Brain
Mindful Meditation and the Brain
Some view meditation as new age, hippie nonsense because it is not a social norm to sit in silence and
dig beneath the surface of the mind. Others liken it to tuning an instrument before playing it. I
subscribe to the latter; nonetheless, meditation is an ancient practice that can be traced back 2,500
years. However, neuroscientists are just now beginning to measure the effects that it has on the brain.
While there are many types of meditation, they all have the same function; reaching an internal state
of consciousness in which one is attending to a specific focal point. The content of this paper will be
predominantly about mindful meditation and how it positively affects the brain. The process of

All meditators performed better than the control in their ability to detect stimuli indicating that both
groups developed a heightened attention as a result of their practice. Results also showed that mindful
meditators were significantly better at detecting unexpected stimuli, compared to the concentration
group (Valentine, 1999).
Another study was done during a three month silent retreat to see if mindful meditation can increase
the ability to identify both stimuli in rapid succession, essentially reducing the trend known as
attentional blink (Slagter, 2007) As cited by Slagter, attentional blink refers to an inability to perceive
a second target in rapid sequential visual presentation of stimuli, if a first target was detected within a
brief window of time, (500 milliseconds) preceding the second target (Shapiro, 1997). Research
indicated that meditators showed less of an attentional blink response than non meditators after the
three month retreat. Electroencephalography (EEG) signals revealed that the individuals that
performed the best on the attentional blink task also exhibited the least amount of brain activity at the
start of the first stimulus. This implies that those individuals were able to allocate their attentional
resources evenly which is in co ordinance with their hypothesis that mindful meditation reduces
attentional blink.

department store also included that the sale was to be on Saturday, October 19th substantiating the

THE TALE OF FELIX THE DARING

A commonly told greek myth about a man whose life was filled with fabled wonders.
In the time of a heroic era when powerful Greek gods ruled the world, there lived a young man whose
life was a matter of both ridicule and raillery of the neighborhood the village of Periera. On the day he
was born, his parents were so poor that they had no other choice but to auction him away into the
dwelling homes of the foundlings; to further sustain their own lives. Before leaving the child
completely behind, they gave him a special name Felix to ensure his prosperous future. However, that

Felix praised for Saga and left back for Periera dreaming of the new life ahead.
On the way back home, to the village of Periera, he seemed to have grown wings elated by the seen
perspectives of happiness spreading around by villager to a villager. Then, just a few miles away from
Periera, Felix noticed a shabby, decrepit household. In the middle of the ruined house, there sat an old
man wearing scruffy clothes and holding a piece of stale bread.
Felix approached the man and asked, Can I help you?

Content Marketing Is Nothing New Essay
Content marketing is nothing new. The first commercial website started back in 1993, so we ve had
nearly a quarter of a century to refine its application. That s why it s so surprising that of the 86
percent of marketers using content marketing, only 32 percent find it effective.
Part of the problem is output. The occasional blog post won t even begin to make a splash in the sea of
online content. And without any consistency, it s difficult to gain enough traction to engage
consumers.
There s also the issue of readers. Many marketers don t take the time to define their audiences beyond
the basic demographics. Just because someone falls within a certain age range, makes a certain
amount of money, and lives within a certain community doesn t mean he or she wants anything to do
with your content or product, for that matter.
For content to be effective, you need to know who you re talking to. You need to know what type of
content your readers want at each stage of the buying process and create an experience that seamlessly
supplies them with credible content. You must develop a plan for creating and pushing out a content
experience that will truly engage them.
Luckily, you don t have to do it alone. Plenty of tools exist to help you not only develop the right
content, but also tee that content up to be found. The following four tools can help you focus your
time and cover the bases for launching a successful content strategy.

The Film Analysis Of The Wizard Of Oz
The Wizard of Oz was first filmed in 1939 and has been revised several times to keep up with the time
frame at present. It started out as a black and white film and was originally produced by Metro
Goldwyn Meyer. Judy Garland is playing the role of Dorothy Gale, who in this film is a restless bored
young girl that wants something other than the dreary life she lives in Kansas, (Goodykoontz Jacobs,
2014, Ch. 4.3 para. 1,2) This film focuses on the power of the imagination and gives a place for
mental escape and relaxation. The power of the imagination is demonstrated throughout this entire
film. It begins with Dorothy ended up in a place called Munchinland that has little people, and is filled
with colors and excitement, the opposite of Kansas where everything is black and white. The most
magical scene is the scene when Dorothy and her dog, The Scarecrow, the Tin Man, and the Scary
Lion meets the Wizard. When they arrive to their destination an image of a man appears during a
blazing fire and thick smoke, and he speaks with authority and control. The fear in Dorothy and her
friends is overwhelming to them, especially for the scary lion who faints before he can speak. The
cinematography technique is crystal clear in capturing the fear and confusion in the characters, as well
as the audience. The special effect in editing allowed the audience to see long views of the face in the
fire and smoke and experience the fear along with Dorothy and her friends. The lighting was

Exxon Mobil Resources and Capabilities Essay
Exxon Mobile is one of the most successful companies in the oil and energy industries today. But what
makes them so successful? In an effort to answer this question, a thorough internal investigation can
be helpful in determining what aspects of this company are making it an industry leader. Two aspects
of this internal analysis of Exxon Mobile are the company s resources and capabilities.
Resources
One of the most reputable resources that Exxon Mobil has today is a strong brand name. Exxon Mobil
operates all over the world and is recognized in every part of the world (Datamonitor, 2008). When
people all over the world know who a company is, what they do, and where they are located, the
company gains a unique competitive advantage over ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another important resource that Exxon possesses is the presence of human expertise capital
throughout the company (Datamoitor, 2008). Exxon employs many scientists and engineers that are
researching and finding new ways to gain access to more energy resources and make the new
innovations less harmful to the environment (Annual Report, 2007). This human capital has proven to
be a very important resource for the company as shown by their development of new ways to increase
liquid natural gas supplies and enhancing heavy oil recovery (Annual Report, 2007). Using the
VRINE model again, I will assess this resource.
In analyzing the value of the human expertise capital, again we must consider whether this resource
helps the company meet market demand and can eliminate some uncertainty. In this case, I believe
that the unique research department that houses these scientists and engineers is one that gives the
company a great capability to compete in the market, and even excel within the industry. I believe it
also eliminates some uncertainty because while the company is researching and developing cutting
edge technology, it keeps them knowledgeable about all the new innovations and ideas that are
throughout the industry. This makes the resource very valuable.
Next, the rarity of the resource must be analyzed. I believe that this resource is rare because of the
entire department (the Upstream Research Center)

In this world, the family unit does not exist and the concept of having a mother and father is
considered a primitive quality of humans. Technology has subverted the world so much that even God

Henry Ford, the embodiment of industrial development. The real world in which we live is not much
different from this that Huxley writes about in the 1930 s. Technological developments have already
allowed us to create embryos outside of the womb. The values that once existed in religion and family
are slowly but surely disappearing. Even today, the vast majority of America and the world have
lessened their beliefs, their worshiping of God and practicing religion. Technology has become the

but I think it might be because he showed so much emotion when Johnny died I don t know, I just
think he did. But anyways, there were some good and bad moments in this book. I guess it s up to you

Crime And Punishment, By Fyodor Dostoevsky
Crime and Punishment, written by Fyodor Mikhailovich Dostoevsky; is a philosophical crime fiction
novel. The story is very powerful in that it goes beyond the book and into the lives of the audience;
making the audience feel some type of relation between themselves and the story. Dostoevsky was
brilliant in creating a fictional world where the characters seem to be found within the audience,
transitioning from a fictional story to a self help book. He employes many life lessons in the story,
which give the audience a new perspective on themselves. In the book Crime and Punishment, I
personally, see myself as Raskolnikov. I feel that his view of the world is similar to mine in that we
both are somewhat disgusted by our fellow man, and that we have little faith in humanity. We are also
similar in that we both feel as if we are alienated from society in a way. I think that the book has given
me an extensive understanding about myself, in that I now realize that it is unhealthy to be prideful
because you end up exploding with pent up emotions. Raskolnikov has shown me that although we are
set in our ways, there is always room to change for the better. If I could meet Dostoevsky I would ask
him what his inspiration for Crime and Punishment was. Sometimes I wonder if the novel was written
to give us insight to how Dostoevsky felt about the world. Maybe he is using the character
Raskolnikov to portray a part of him who feels alienated from the world, and is torn apart

Psychology Personal Statement Essay
Of all the A Levels I study, psychology is definitely the most relevant to day to day life; it raises
questions related to various aspects of our lives and demonstrates how open minded we must be in
order to gain higher levels of understanding in terms of behaviours and mental conditions. Having
looked into various career options I have decided I would most enjoy a career in the avenue of
psychology. At the moment I am leaning towards clinical psychology however, I also have interest in
counselling psychologies and music therapy. These career options I believe utilise my skills in
listening to others and rationalising their views. I further developed these skills in high school when I
earned a Level 1 certificate in Understanding Young People as a Peer Mentor , this course encouraged
me to develop such skills and motivated me to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At the moment I am reading a book called The Man Who Couldn t Stop by David Adam, it s about
how OCD affects a person s life and explains how though we all have ego syntonic thoughts from
time to time, constantly living with ego dystonic thoughts and using rituals to temporarily remove
them is so much harder as it affects even a task considered normal . I have also watched various
documentaries like Extreme OCD Camp , How Crazy am I? and Thin , as well as having read fictional
psychological books, through these I have been able to evaluate how people with mental illnesses
become stigmatised due to the label of their illness, however, without that label people can often seem
normal . Particularly through the documentaries I have seen how difficult overcoming a mental illness
is especially without a high level of motivation. I greatly see the value of not only helping people
overcome related issues but allowing them to feel like the valued and respected member of society
that they are; I believe we all deserve the chance to

Short Essay Chapter 1
BOOK 1 Ready to give up, after waiting more than an hour for her daughter, suddenly Katherine saw
the old Malibu coming into the parking lot, and hid behind the building. Katherine peeked around the
corner and watched Marlene kiss the driver passionately before waltzing across the doctor s parking
lot. Unlocking the door the new red Mercedes, the raven haired beauty with a reputation for being
high maintenance drove out of the parking lot and down the street.
With her thoughts lingering on the last hours spent with her lover, Marlene entered the garage and
breathed a sigh of relief when she failed to see her husband s car. Exiting the Mercedes, straightening
her clothes, she picked up the mail before entering the house. After placing ... Show more content on

Her voice filled with venom, Katherine asked, Marlene, what will happen when Jerry learns about
Frank, and I m just the one to tell him? Jerry is a wonderful husband and a wonderful provider,
Katherine said, knowing if Jerry even suspected she was having an affair that he would divorce her
immediately.
Go ahead, and talk to Jerry, I don t care! I have no idea why Frank called my phone, Marlene said, My
goodness, Mother. I ve only spoken to him a few times.
If that is true, why do you park your Mercedes in different garages around town at least four days a
week? Katherine asked.
Surprised by what her mother said, Marlene asked, And just where did you get that information?
I followed you and watched you park your car and get into another car, Katherine said.
Oh, come on Mom, you were following the wrong car. I don t have the only red Mercedes in Jackson
Heights. Good God, Mom! I would never jeopardize my family s happiness, Marlene said,
sarcastically, waving her hands. Concerned with her daughter s happiness, Katherine said, Honey, don
t expect me to remain silent and watch you destroy your family. Raising her voice, Marlene said, I
love you, Mother, and I do expect you to keep your mouth shut. I swear I ll see you in your grave
before you cause me trouble. I m warning you, leave it alone! Although shocked, Katherine failed to
respond.
I ll pick up my phone tomorrow, Marlene said,

Cryptanalysis In World War II
Thesis: The application of Cryptanalysis in World War II was imperative to both Allied intelligence
efforts and success of Allied Powers during the Battle of the Atlantic.
Citation: Rielage, Dale C. 2002. Indirectly in Operational Signals . Naval History16, no. 6: 31. History
Reference Center, EBSCOhost (accessed November 16, 2016).
Annotation: Rielage argues that due to Ultra intelligence finally being used to allow for an offensive
front in the Atlantic in regards to U boats, much success was had. He backs up this statement citing
Admiral Karl Donitz, who stated that the U boat losses which were thirteen percent before the use of
Ultra for an offensive front in the Atlantic quickly rose to thirty to fifty percent. He also acknowledges

Deutsch reveals that both sides suffered failures and had successes and each had to face difficulties
with cryptanalysis. He explains that the German navy s Heimisch or Hydra, codenamed Dolphin by
Bletchley Park, broken from 1942 onwards, and Triton, codenamed Shark, broken periodically and
sometimes for protracted periods of time, were both harder to crack in comparison to the Enigma
cipher, and therefore were only as useful as the frequency to which they were broken. I will use this
source to further correlate cryptanalysis during the Battle of the Atlantic and the success the allies
encountered due to this. This source gives a great explanation as to what the capture of German code
accessories from the German weather ship, Muenchen, as well as the German U 110. It also explains
how solving the fourth rotor problem in March of 1943 meant the end

Whale Rider Film Analysis
In the film Whale Rider , by Niki Caro which follows the journey of a young girl named Paikea
Apirana and her struggle for acceptance as a leader of her Māori iwi, and especially her grandfather.
An important character in this film is Pai herself. This character has significant importance as she is
used to portray numerous important ideas and themes throughout the film. Pai helps me to understand
and appreciate that women can also be leaders that are equal to men if they have the right attributes.
The director Niki Caro uses numerous different film techniques to convey this idea, such as; the
camera shots and camera angles when Pai is giving her speech to Koro, the use of camera angles and
props in relation to the dialogue when Pai if fixing the motorboat engine, and the use of props when
Pai is teaching herself to use the Taiaha. The use of camera shots and camera angles while she is
giving her speech to Koro, helps to show Pai s important attributes which are necessary for a good
leader. One of these shots is the low angle while Pai is giving her speech. Low angles are often used to
give the focus object or person a feeling or respect, even if Pai is crying, which shows that Pai is
respected by the community. As she is crying during this scene, and the director still chooses to use a
low angle, consequently, this shows that she is a strong, powerful, and resilient figure, which are
especially important attributes of a leader.
Additionally, in this scene is a wide shot down the aisle of the hall, with Pai in the middle, and framed
by the audience. Furthermore, this exhibits that the community supports Pai, even at her weakest and
most fragile, while she is in tears on the stage. The support of a community is an important attribute
for a leader to have, due to the importance of leadership is not just being one person, and is also the
whole community. The camera shots and camera angles helped the audience as well as myself to
understand the importance of Pai and helped myself and the audience understand and appreciate Niki
Caro s idea that women can also be leaders that can be equal to men if they have the right attributes
The use of camera angles and props in relation to the dialogue when Pai if fixing

Water Is An Important Factor That Affects Sorption
Water is an important factor that affects sorption because when there is excess water or when water
drains through soil from sources at the surface, adsorbed pesticide molecules can become unattached,
or desorbed, and wash away to a new location (Rao, 1999). Just as degradation has a measure in the
half life of a compound, sorption also has a measure in the partition coefficient (Koc), which is a ratio
of pesticide concentration in a soil bound state versus dissolved in soil water (Rao, 1999). In fact, the
solubility of a pesticide and its sorption on soil are inversely related; [in other words], increased
solubility results in less sorption (Rao, 1999). Both sorption and degradation are effected by soil type
and pH, both of which ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Volatilization is a means of major pesticide loss and its rate of loss can often exceeds that of
degradation, runoff, or leaching (van der Werf, 1996). For example, in an Oregon study, soil samples
64km from any agriculture were found to have DDT residues, and in Saskatchewan, Canada, 20% of
2, 4 D iso octyl ester volatilized in 24 hours (Pimentel, 1995). Once in the atmosphere, pesticide
residues can spread anywhere, even Antarctica (Pimentel, 1995). Large amounts of pesticides and
organic compounds can be transported around the globe in the atmosphere, for example, in the
atmosphere of the Netherlands, the amounts of
BHC, DDT, and heptachlor were reported to be 4600, 1064, and 190 pg/m 3, respectively (Pimentel,
1995).
Topography and Geology Topography and geology affect pesticide movement in as much as directing
or transporting pesticides. Topography is very obvious, for example, if a field is right next to a river, it
is much more likely for runoff to get into the river system, or if a field is in a low area not very far
above the water table, pesticides are very likely to leach into the groundwater. On the other hand, a
field could be high and dry and very far from any river or groundwater, but if it is hilly that can pose
its own problems. As T. Y. Tong and Chen point out, surface runoff is an important source of non point
pollution (Tong and Chen, 2002). Though it was pointed out by van der Werf that volatilization is the
biggest source of

Reaction to “Introduction to a New America”
Reaction Paper to Introduction to a New America
Professor Diana Eck in Chapter One of Introduction to a New America highlights the emerging new
religious climate in the United States. The United States has always been a country of many religious
traditions due to the Constitutional right of Freedom of Religion. But since the 1965 Immigration and
Naturalization Act, signed by President Johnson, America s borders have seen a tremendous influx of
individuals from around the world. There are one million new immigrants to the U. S. each year which
has led the United States to become the most religiously diverse nation on earth. The percentage of
foreign born Americans is now 10.4 percent, which is more than double what it was in 1970. ... Show

She considers herself a Christian pluralist one that is open to encountering individuals of different
faith traditions and defining her own faith not by its borders, but by it roots. She points out that many
Conservative Christians do not agree with her. Part of the Christian ideology is to convert those who
are not believers. As long as that ideology is in place, mutual respect and cooperation will be difficult
to achieve. She stresses that the old time religion has to be up to the challenges of an intricately
interdependent world in order to progress towards a pluralistic society. Eck stresses that the challenge
today is to adhere to the same principals of religious freedom that formed our nation and embrace the
resulting religious diversity. Eck should be congratulated on her goal of mutual understanding and
respect by all Americans, but I believe it is an unrealistic and naïve goal. The Christian Right and
Fundamentalist Christian movement will continue to play a significant role in America s belief system
and this will stand in the way of embracing other religions and becoming a totally pluralistic society.
Some non Christian religions are also intolerant of other belief systems and show intolerance and
hatred of Western Civilization, making mutual respect difficult. The events of September 11 and after
illustrate the difficulty

Health Partners Free Clinic Is An Agency That Can Help...
People are living longer and the elderly population is gowing by leaps and bounds. In the years to
come, this age group will face chronic illnesses. These individuals will need teaching on how to self
manage the sickness. Diabetes medications can cost a person up to $1,379 which is a lot of money for
someone on a limited income. Twenty percent of people age 65 and older conveyed taking less
prescriptions over the past couple of years (Bennett Flaherty Robb, 2013). Health Partners Free Clinic
is an agency that can help these individuals. I shall discuss in further detail the benefits of this
organization. Health Partners free clinic is located in Troy, Ohio; it is a non profit agency that serves
the citizens of Miami County. The mission of this facility is to increase the availability of medical care
to people without insurance and those who do not have enough insurance coverage (Health Partners
Free Clinic, 2015). The services offered will incur no cost to the patient. Age is not a factor at this
institution, a medical professional provides care to the young and older population (Health Partners
Free Clinic [HPFC], 2009). Individuals can access the mission statement and updates through the
facility s website and Facebook page. The purpose of this organization is to provide care to those in
need that cannot afford it. The target audience is the uninsured and under insured individuals in the
Miami County area. I feel the elderly fall into this

  • 2. Essay on Federalism Federalism Federalism is a widely accepted system of government in North American cultures. To many North Americans it seems to be the obvious choice for all world governments, but this is not the case. In all honesty, federalism is a fairly unique form of government. Out of approximately two hundred nations on the earth one hundred and eighty states practice unitary forms of government, leaving only twenty or so as federal nations (Winchester, 1999). Unitary forms of government consist of only one level of government. These are very popular in modern day politics as they are much cheaper to run and to maintain, while still fitting the needs of most countries. Examples of countries which use unitary governments include France, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Federalism has a rich and influential history in North America as well as in many other parts of the world. While it is widely believed that federalism as a principle was the brainchild of the founding fathers of the United States of America, reference to federalism in an unrefined form was documented in the early 1600 s. It was in this time period that the Jewish convenant in response to social and religious persecution created a new doctrine of federal theology based on the idea of a mutual obligation between the ruler and the ruled (Wijemanne, 1999). Essentially this was the very first division of powers, and shared control over an area by two levels of government, all be it in a very crude form. A more contemporary and widely accepted approach regarding the birth of federalism is that it was essentially created with the Declaration of Independence and the gradual confederation of the American states in the late 1700 s and early 1800 s. The United States fits the mold most common with Federal states. Federalism was first implemented in the United States because America contained a large plot of land which was filled with a very diverse population. Typically the only way to unite a heterogeneous population is through a federal government because it is the only way to articulate and protect regional interests. As the United States evolved so did federalism as an ideology and as a political practice. Constant amendments to the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

They fight for two very different ideologies. The patriots fight for the freedom of the people and for rights they re denied under the king, while the redcoats fight for their king and power. The revolutionaries were fighting against a power hungry tyrant, that cared for only money and power. This relates to present day as the corporate elite fight against the people to fatten their checkbooks. Campaign finance presses a real issue today because the people are no longer in control of the government. Elections are bought and paid for by billionaires with certain corporate agendas in place. Bernie Sanders has recently brought this issue up to attention claiming to campaign for the people, and be free of super pacs. Sanders wishes for a government beholden to the people of America, not millionaires and billionaires. On his website he stated In the year 2016, with a political campaign finance system that is corrupt and increasingly controlled by billionaires and special interests, I fear very much that, in fact, government of the people, by the people, and for the people is beginning to perish in the United States of America. The other girl agrees with Vivian. Warner attempts to get the rest of the group to let Elle join, but he is quickly kicked by Vivian under the table. Elle is trying to use an ingratiation tactic, in order to get the study group to comply with her request to join. Compliance is when an individual seeks a specific behavior or action through a request. There are different tactics an individual may use in order to receive compliance. One tactic is the aforementioned ingratiation. Ingratiation is when an individual tries to make another individual or group like him/her, so that the individual or group will comply with his/her request. Individuals trying to get the other or others to comply may give him/her/them complements, try to make him/her/them feel good, drop names. The ingratiation tactic is not likely to work if it is obvious that the individual is trying to do this (Hogg and Vaughn, 2014, p. 210). Ingratiation is commonly depicted as being negative. Liden and Mitchell argue that it can be positive and serve the general purpose of getting others to like the individual. It typical for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Many people see heroin abuse as a choice which it is, initially and a crime that should be punished, not necessarily treated. Hopefully, conversations with law enforcement and medical professionals can provide objective, expert opinions that will balance with firsthand accounts that the audience can empathize with. This approach will seek to strike a balance between the personal and the professional to minimize that problem of truth . Supporting assertions with evidence and expert testimony will put objectivity at the forefront of the documentary. Much of the documentary will be based around interviews: interviews with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Black Tar Heroin (1999) is perhaps one of the best examples. Black Tar Heroin is an HBO piece that focuses on the lives of five addicted young people and the poor decisions that arise as a result of their abuse. While it gives some humanity to the issue of heroin addiction, it does not delve into the overarching, underlying causes of the heroin problem in the same way that Mistakes on the Lake will seek to. Mistakes on the Lake will be less of a slice of life piece, though it will emphasize that anyone can get addicted to heroin. In 2016, the PBS documentary series Frontline produced a two hour investigative episode called Chasing Heroin that sought to educate people about addiction and reach the root of the opioid problem. Mistakes on the Lake will focus more on the stories of individuals, and it will center specifically around the Northern Ohio region. Chasing Heroin focuses on the big picture , the nation at large. While the issue of heroin abuse and overdose obviously did not happen overnight, it is still a relatively new issue. Nevertheless, I think that the reason why El Paso, Texas has a high teenage pregnancy because of the disagreement between the education system and parent s belief s on when to teach young kids about their bodies. • 13. The War Theory Of War What is War? The term war can be defined as a clash that arises between different groups, states or nations. Different ethnic backgrounds, religious beliefs, and scarce resources are just a few of many reasons why such an act of violence may be practiced throughout the world. However, could a war ever be completely just? And if so, who would be responsible for deeming what would and would not be considered as being morally and theologically justified? This will be discussed in further detail later on in this report. Premise The Just War Theory states that war can sometimes be permissible if it is satisfactorily evaluated by the tenets of the theory. I believe that in order for a war to be just , it must always be a result of an act of self defense against a more powerful and threatening opponent. I also believe that war should always be considered as being the very last resort in conflict due to its many resulting consequences. But in such circumstances, who (or what) would determine when war would be permissible? What is Just? The term just is difficult to perfectly define as it is ultimately based on one s own perspective. Different upbringings and backgrounds would influence one s idea of the term just. Therefore, only an individual who has absolutely no sense of bias would be able to carry out the task of determining when a war would be considered justified and permissible. However, nobody is ever bias free . Humans all come from upbringings that influence their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 14. Federal Reserve Should Raise The Federal Funds Rate The discussion of whether the Federal Reserve should raise the federal funds rate is a highly contentious one. Members of the Federal Reserve ( Fed ) and academic economists disagree about what constitutes appropriate future macroeconomic policy for the Unites States. In the past, the Fed had been able to raise rates when the unemployment rate was under 5% and inflation was at a target of 2%. Enigmatically, since the Great Recession and despite a strengthening economy, year over year total inflation since 2008 has averaged only 1.4% as measured by the Personal Consumption Expenditures Price Index ( PCE ). Today, PCE inflation is at 1 1.5% and has continuously undershot the Fed s inflation target of 2% three years in a row. (Evan 2015) In the six years since the bottom of the Great Recession the U.S. economy has made great strides in lowering the published unemployment rate from about 10% back down to about 5.5%. In light of this data, certain individuals believe that the Federal Reserve should move to increase the federal funds rate in 2015 because unemployment is near 5% and inflation should bounce back on its own (Derby 2015). However, this recommendation is misguided. Overview The Federal Reserve should utilize a balanced approach to monetary policy. The current state of the economy undershot employment and inflation goals presents no conflict in achieving a neutral state. Censorship Of Books In Defense of the Constitution: We Want YOU to Free the Books Francois Marie Arouet Voltaire once said, I may disagree with what you have to say, but I shall defend, to the death, your right to say it , which is unfortunately not the common opinion amongst advocates of censorship across America today (Tallentyre). Withdrawing books from the reachable shelves of libraries and schools across America is leading to the inexcusable realm of conformity that is being found in the nation, and world, today. Suppressing history, warping First Amendment rights, and clouding culture, the censorship of literature in today s world is ultimately impacting society as a whole. Since the release of Maya Angelou s I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings, a startling memoir recounting the author s troubling childhood, it has been challenged by 15 U.S. states and removed from countless libraries across the country, landing it an almost permanent spot on the American Library Association s 100 Most Frequently Challenged Books (ALA). Angelou s brutally honest depictions of rape and racism are off putting to many parents across America, leading them to want to safeguard their children from what are absolutely important, relevant topics in today s society. This buffer that adults create is exactly what drives the problem within society people in positions of power are building walls surrounding youths, keeping the truthful, harsh problems of reality out, only letting the youth read and learn from what has been deemed acceptable . This view of society is what I call second eye blind ; because of censorship, children are viewing the world with one eye closed. While these advocates exhort against the dangers of these writings, they are ultimately misconstruing and distorting the messages behind author s writing, instead of reading and learning from it ... Wiesel feels compelled to bear witness to the suffering that he experienced and observed in the concentration camps. In Night he narrates the experience of the deaths of his family members, the death of his adolescence, and the death of his naïve belief in mans innate goodness. At the beginning of the book, with nothing else to cling onto, prisoners in camps hold onto their family members. The most important thing to do is staying with your for as long as possible. The envelopes of EBOV and MARV are composed of glycoproteins (GP). GP are essential for the entry of the viruses into the host cell by attaching to its cell surface (10). GP is a homotrimer of GP1 (membrane protein) GP2 (transmembrane protein) heterodimer linked by disulfide bonds (11 12). The mechanism on how GP1 and GP2 drive the introduction of the virus into the host cell is not well understood yet (7). However, it is known that is characterized by three steps: attachment, uptake, and membrane fusion (7). GP1 is involved in adhesion of the receptor with the host cell surface, whereas GP2 is involved in the virus host cell membrane fusion and entry (13). In most cases GP1 is believed to bind to different glycosaminoglycans (GAG) from the host cell i.e. heparin sulfate, to be able to efficiently enter the host cell (2). GAGs are negative, unbranched polysaccharides found in mostly all cells surfaces but differ in composition between species (4). It is believed that GAGs are not the only possible way of attachment for filoviruses to the host surface, meaning that there are other host factors that aid in viral entry (2). After attachment, virions get into the host cell through micropinocytosis followed by endosome trafficking which leads to membrane fusion (7). A low pH due to the endosomal events is what leads to the initiation of membrane fusion (7). G protein coupled receptors (GPCR) are the biggest and most diverse family of protein in ... • 25. Analysis Of Joe Hill s Preacher Of The Slave Preacher Casey s new purpose mirrors a historical idol from the same time period, Joe Hill. Joe Hill was a leader of the IWW during the 1900s. Like Casey, Hill believed in striking against businesses and led his own strikes including the Lawrence strike in 1912 and Paterson strike in 1913. Joe Hill used songs to communicate his ideas including the preacher of the slave . In the song, Hill shows preachers as corrupted and argues against the existence of heaven, convincing his audience that they should focus on improving conditions they face today instead of looking for heaven for relief. Similarly, Casey said, I wouldn t pray just for a old man that s dead, cause he s all right. If I was to pray, I d pray for folks that s alive and don t know which way to turn , mirroring Hill s views that the union must focus on the current conditions that mankind faces instead of looking towards death for hope. Casey is connected to the song in a metaphorical way as he too became an advocate of justice for workers thus becoming a metaphorical preacher of the slave in a positive way, unlike the negative light Hill shined religious preachers in. Additionally, both of these men argued for justice, equality, and socialism over religion. Furthermore, Joe Hill was arrested for a crime he did not commit and was executed by the state of Utah. Similarly, Casey is caught conspiring and was beaten to death by Pinkerton guards who acted as the police force at the time. Hill and Casey both became martyrs of their causes, Hill inspiring the followers of the IWW and Casey inspiring his own followers, causing the transformation of Tom Joad. In the beginning, Tom Joad s focus is the survival of himself and his family. Tom returns from penitentiary wanting to reconnect with his family while on parole. Once Tom is reunited with his family his focus is protecting his family. Although he does not feel as lost as Casey, Tom too is searching for a purpose. Early on, Tom expresses some discontent with the government because he was jailed for killing a man out of self defense. However, neuroscientists are just now beginning to measure the effects that it has on the brain. Results also showed that mindful meditators were significantly better at detecting unexpected stimuli, compared to the concentration group (Valentine, 1999). Another study was done during a three month silent retreat to see if mindful meditation can increase the ability to identify both stimuli in rapid succession, essentially reducing the trend known as attentional blink (Slagter, 2007) As cited by Slagter, attentional blink refers to an inability to perceive a second target in rapid sequential visual presentation of stimuli, if a first target was detected within a brief window of time, (500 milliseconds) preceding the second target (Shapiro, 1997). Research indicated that meditators showed less of an attentional blink response than non meditators after the three month retreat. Electroencephalography (EEG) signals revealed that the individuals that performed the best on the attentional blink task also exhibited the least amount of brain activity at the start of the first stimulus. This implies that those individuals were able to allocate their attentional resources evenly which is in co ordinance with their hypothesis that mindful meditation reduces attentional blink. ... This human capital has proven to be a very important resource for the company as shown by their development of new ways to increase liquid natural gas supplies and enhancing heavy oil recovery (Annual Report, 2007). Using the VRINE model again, I will assess this resource. In analyzing the value of the human expertise capital, again we must consider whether this resource helps the company meet market demand and can eliminate some uncertainty. In this case, I believe that the unique research department that houses these scientists and engineers is one that gives the company a great capability to compete in the market, and even excel within the industry. I believe it also eliminates some uncertainty because while the company is researching and developing cutting edge technology, it keeps them knowledgeable about all the new innovations and ideas that are throughout the industry. This makes the resource very valuable. Next, the rarity of the resource must be analyzed. I believe that this resource is rare because of the entire department (the Upstream Research Center) ... Technology has subverted the world so much that even God is replaced by Ford. Constant references throughout the novel are made to Our Ford, referring to Henry Ford, the embodiment of industrial development. The real world in which we live is not much different from this that Huxley writes about in the 1930 s. Technological developments have already allowed us to create embryos outside of the womb. The values that once existed in religion and family are slowly but surely disappearing. Even today, the vast majority of America and the world have lessened their beliefs, their worshiping of God and practicing religion. Technology has become the new religion as it provides the materialistic progress that people desire. Women will soon have the ability to have children but not carry the children themselves for nine months. What is important anymore? Because of technology, a family unit merely represents a group of people that has dinner together every so often. Values in education and good citizenship are no longer taught to children in such intensity as distractions brought forth by the media and video games only encourage having fun as opposed to studying and working hard for a future. • 37. Julius Caesar Rhetorical Analysis Brutus s Use of Rhetorical Strategies in Julius Caesar In Julius Caesar, Shakespeare employs various rhetorical strategies such as paradox, direct address, and antithesis to portray Brutus as a reasonable and caring individual, thus justifying his actions to the audience and fellow conspirators. Brutus begins conspiring to end Caesar s power, and he concludes that Caesar must bleed, and the conspirators must kill him boldly, but not wrathfully (2.1.184 185). Brutus desire to avoid killing with wrath inspires a paradox, which is intended to draw attention and thought to the subject. By emphasizing the difference between boldness and wrath, he appears more reasonable, compelling the conspirators to side with him. The paradox promotes the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

No, this isn t knowledge I ve gained from reading comic books; it s something I ve learned about through personal experiences and happenings in my lifetime. In the book The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton, good and evil are a large part of the book. The novel has many occurrences where it shows that there is conflict in life, and others that show there is still good in the world. The good may be hard to point out at times, between all the mopey and depressing things in the story, but if you read between the lines, you ll find them soon enough. • 40. Crime And Punishment, By Fyodor Dostoevsky Crime and Punishment, written by Fyodor Mikhailovich Dostoevsky; is a philosophical crime fiction novel. The story is very powerful in that it goes beyond the book and into the lives of the audience; making the audience feel some type of relation between themselves and the story. Dostoevsky was brilliant in creating a fictional world where the characters seem to be found within the audience, transitioning from a fictional story to a self help book. He employes many life lessons in the story, which give the audience a new perspective on themselves. In the book Crime and Punishment, I personally, see myself as Raskolnikov. I feel that his view of the world is similar to mine in that we both are somewhat disgusted by our fellow man, and that we have little faith in humanity. We are also similar in that we both feel as if we are alienated from society in a way. I think that the book has given me an extensive understanding about myself, in that I now realize that it is unhealthy to be prideful because you end up exploding with pent up emotions. Raskolnikov has shown me that although we are set in our ways, there is always room to change for the better. If I could meet Dostoevsky I would ask him what his inspiration for Crime and Punishment was. Sometimes I wonder if the novel was written to give us insight to how Dostoevsky felt about the world. Maybe he is using the character Raskolnikov to portray a part of him who feels alienated from the world, and is torn apart ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Psychology Personal Statement Essay Of all the A Levels I study, psychology is definitely the most relevant to day to day life; it raises questions related to various aspects of our lives and demonstrates how open minded we must be in order to gain higher levels of understanding in terms of behaviours and mental conditions. Having looked into various career options I have decided I would most enjoy a career in the avenue of psychology. At the moment I am leaning towards clinical psychology however, I also have interest in counselling psychologies and music therapy. • 44. Whale Rider Film Analysis In the film Whale Rider , by Niki Caro which follows the journey of a young girl named Paikea Apirana and her struggle for acceptance as a leader of her Māori iwi, and especially her grandfather. An important character in this film is Pai herself. This character has significant importance as she is used to portray numerous important ideas and themes throughout the film. Pai helps me to understand and appreciate that women can also be leaders that are equal to men if they have the right attributes. The director Niki Caro uses numerous different film techniques to convey this idea, such as; the camera shots and camera angles when Pai is giving her speech to Koro, the use of camera angles and props in relation to the dialogue when Pai if fixing the motorboat engine, and the use of props when Pai is teaching herself to use the Taiaha. The use of camera shots and camera angles while she is giving her speech to Koro, helps to show Pai s important attributes which are necessary for a good leader. One of these shots is the low angle while Pai is giving her speech. Low angles are often used to give the focus object or person a feeling or respect, even if Pai is crying, which shows that Pai is respected by the community. As she is crying during this scene, and the director still chooses to use a low angle, consequently, this shows that she is a strong, powerful, and resilient figure, which are especially important attributes of a leader. Additionally, in this scene is a wide shot down the aisle of the hall, with Pai in the middle, and framed by the audience. Furthermore, this exhibits that the community supports Pai, even at her weakest and most fragile, while she is in tears on the stage. The support of a community is an important attribute for a leader to have, due to the importance of leadership is not just being one person, and is also the whole community. The camera shots and camera angles helped the audience as well as myself to understand the importance of Pai and helped myself and the audience understand and appreciate Niki Caro s idea that women can also be leaders that can be equal to men if they have the right attributes The use of camera angles and props in relation to the dialogue when Pai if fixing ... • 45. Water Is An Important Factor That Affects Sorption Water is an important factor that affects sorption because when there is excess water or when water drains through soil from sources at the surface, adsorbed pesticide molecules can become unattached, or desorbed, and wash away to a new location (Rao, 1999). Just as degradation has a measure in the half life of a compound, sorption also has a measure in the partition coefficient (Koc), which is a ratio of pesticide concentration in a soil bound state versus dissolved in soil water (Rao, 1999). In fact, the solubility of a pesticide and its sorption on soil are inversely related; [in other words], increased solubility results in less sorption (Rao, 1999). Both sorption and degradation are effected by soil type and pH, both of which ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Volatilization is a means of major pesticide loss and its rate of loss can often exceeds that of degradation, runoff, or leaching (van der Werf, 1996). For example, in an Oregon study, soil samples 64km from any agriculture were found to have DDT residues, and in Saskatchewan, Canada, 20% of 2, 4 D iso octyl ester volatilized in 24 hours (Pimentel, 1995). Once in the atmosphere, pesticide residues can spread anywhere, even Antarctica (Pimentel, 1995). Large amounts of pesticides and organic compounds can be transported around the globe in the atmosphere, for example, in the atmosphere of the Netherlands, the amounts of BHC, DDT, and heptachlor were reported to be 4600, 1064, and 190 pg/m 3, respectively (Pimentel, 1995). Topography and Geology Topography and geology affect pesticide movement in as much as directing or transporting pesticides. Topography is very obvious, for example, if a field is right next to a river, it is much more likely for runoff to get into the river system, or if a field is in a low area not very far above the water table, pesticides are very likely to leach into the groundwater. On the other hand, a field could be high and dry and very far from any river or groundwater, but if it is hilly that can pose its own problems. As T. Y. Tong and Chen point out, surface runoff is an important source of non point pollution (Tong and Chen, 2002). Though it was pointed out by van der Werf that volatilization is the biggest source of ... Reaction to “Introduction to a New America” Reaction Paper to Introduction to a New America Professor Diana Eck in Chapter One of Introduction to a New America highlights the emerging new religious climate in the United States. The United States has always been a country of many religious traditions due to the Constitutional right of Freedom of Religion. But since the 1965 Immigration and Naturalization Act, signed by President Johnson, America s borders have seen a tremendous influx of individuals from around the world. There are one million new immigrants to the U. S. each year which has led the United States to become the most religiously diverse nation on earth. The percentage of foreign born Americans is now 10.4 percent, which is more than double what it was in 1970. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... She considers herself a Christian pluralist one that is open to encountering individuals of different faith traditions and defining her own faith not by its borders, but by it roots. She points out that many Conservative Christians do not agree with her. Part of the Christian ideology is to convert those who are not believers. As long as that ideology is in place, mutual respect and cooperation will be difficult to achieve. She stresses that the old time religion has to be up to the challenges of an intricately interdependent world in order to progress towards a pluralistic society. Eck stresses that the challenge today is to adhere to the same principals of religious freedom that formed our nation and embrace the resulting religious diversity. Eck should be congratulated on her goal of mutual understanding and respect by all Americans, but I believe it is an unrealistic and naïve goal. The Christian Right and Fundamentalist Christian movement will continue to play a significant role in America s belief system and this will stand in the way of embracing other religions and becoming a totally pluralistic society. Some non Christian religions are also intolerant of other belief systems and show intolerance and hatred of Western Civilization, making mutual respect difficult.
