The High School Student Program
Choice is a luxury most in rural China cannot afford but, as a 16 year old girl who had just arrived to
the United States, the myriad of choices that lay before me was extremely awesome. I equated the
impressive array of choice in terms related to good fortune or even wealth, and this beginning would
serve as the impetus to my achievements in this country thus far. But, what compelled me to leave my
home and family, and travel alone to this country, was to become educated. Where I am from in China,
education seems almost to be a type of magic that can only be wished for; it is elusive to most. I
recognized that education lay at the core of opportunity, and if I focused and worked hard I could one
day share the good fortune of choice as well as the magic that only education can inspire others, both
here as well as in China. I arrived to the U.S. as a high school junior under the J 1 Visa, Secondary
School Student Program and had the privilege to have stayed in Virginia with a family headed by
parents who are both school teachers. Upon completion, I obtained an F 1 student visa and completed
my senior year in 2011 at a rural boarding school in northeast Georgia. Upon arriving to Drexel
University (Drexel) as a freshman I had already decided that my future professional life would, in
some way, be in education. After transferring to New York University (NYU) as a junior, I would
choose a degree in economics, which I felt to be fundamental in terms of my aspirations as a leader

The Socio-Cultural Analysis Of India
The Socio Cultural Analysis of India Culture is defined as The arts, beliefs, customs, institutions, and
other products of human work and thought considered as a unit, especially with regard to a particular
time or social group by American Heritage Dictionary of the English Language (2011). Also, the
Dictionary of Military and Associated Terms (2005) defines culture as A feature of the terrain that has
been constructed by man. Included are such items as roads, buildings, and canals; boundary lines; and,
in a broad sense, all names and legends on a map . In a nutshell, culture is everything that makes up
the basic ways of life. Culture is comprised of five basic characteristics. Culture is learned, shared,
symbolic, integrated, and dynamic (Bueno, 2012). This means that aspects of culture are spread by
social interactions such as trade, language and other communication technologies. Some of the more
common forms of communication technologies and language are movies, television shows, literature,
arts, and local history. Symbolism is similar to the learned and shared aspects in many ways.
Language, literature, and the arts are all major ways in which the symbolism of a specific culture is
spread. The integration of culture is based on pattern. The specific dimensions of social life create
social norms that are followed. The economy and politics are two of the more prevalent forms of
social life that lead to the patterns of integration. Lastly, there is a

Gnosticism And Tertullian s Development Of Christian...
During a time where Gnostic ideology was one of the heresies gaining momentum, Tertullian and
Irenaeus were two of the individuals that brilliantly defended the faith. They saw Gnosticism through
the same lens as many other Church Fathers, as nothing else but a heresy. In their time this was a real
threat to the true faith that was laid out for them through the Scriptures and through the oral tradition
passed down by the apostles. Like many heresies, Gnosticism started off within a Christian
foundation. However, what makes it more interesting is that Gnosticism as philosophy or the ideology
as a whole may have predated Christianity since we see some epistles arguing against some of the
Gnostic principles (Kelly 23). To further refute the heresy, Irenaeus and Tertullian had a tremendous
contribution in the development of Christian apologetics. While similar, many have credited Irenaeus
to his ecclesiological development and Tertullian to his Christological development in the early
Church.
Through the writings of Irenaeus, we quickly learn of how he viewed the Scriptures and the apostles.
Irenaeus laid his argument by stating a foundation that every Christian would agree with, which was
that Christ himself is the ultimate source of Christian doctrine. While this may seem very intuitive, it
is because of this foundation that Irenaeus lays out that he is able to further develop his argument.
Irenaeus continues with this argument by stating that Christ has revealed his message

Behind Closed Doors In Girl By Jamaica Kincaid
After diving much into the short story, Girl by Jamaica Kincaid, a casual reader would nonchalantly
read this short story, and observe the strict mentoring or teaching aspect. Like most stories there
should be a sense of curiosity when we read them. Inspecting this story on a more personal level has
opened many doors of speculation. Applying the phrase behind closed doors literally, we are going to
dive deeper into the story. Looking not only at the story itself, but also finding nits and bits of the
story that gives a larger insight on the writer and her intentions. As briefly stated before, the story
leans more towards the strict aspect. It involves a young girl, a daughter specifically, being lectured on
ways to be lady like or depending ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Kincaid, being from the two Caribbean island of Antigua and Barbuda, is basically Caribbean. Which
could give the story more of a different feel, depending on where it takes place. Being raised in a
Caribbean household, and having mostly Caribbean friends, I was widely exposed to this lifestyle. The
parents were harsher towards their children, when punishing or giving lectures. Another point which
gives hint to the Caribbean viewpoint is the phrase that comes up in the story. Which says but I don t
sing benna on Sundays at all and never in Sunday school. Two point of views come out of this, one
being the idea of benna, which is simply Calypso music. Which is a music that originated in the
Caribbean islands. Another being the emphasis on the day of Sunday. Minor sentence, but gives a lot
of information in the few words it gives. Growing up my mother not only spoke about church, but
emphasized going on Sundays, which is different for many different backgrounds. Jewish being a
prime example, considering they attend temple on Saturday. So taking into consideration the author
and key terms used in the story, it could point to a culture. And with culture comes a lifestyle and
practice which should be taken into much consideration when reading stories from unknown

Comparing The Characters Of Chuck Bass And Dan Humphrey
As popular characters of the outstanding TV series Gossip Girl, Chuck Bass and Dan Humphrey are
my two most liked characters. I admire how they are two completely different people, who come from
different backgrounds. Dan is the typical nerdy boy who can only get into an elite school by receiving
scholarships for his intelligence. Chuck on the other hand is a wealthy, greedy, and obnoxiously
captivating boy who buys people like Dan Humphrey to do his school work while he handles a part of
his father s business and womanizes any girl his father s money can buy. These two share an abundant
amount of contradictions.
Chuck is portrayed as an opulent and conceited vile boy in this popular series; with all of his rich and
fame he is truly the most well known character for assertiveness and the fact that he goes everywhere
in a limo. Even though he has a beastly personality, when it comes to the one who he truly loves and
adores he breaks down into a charming man unless it is his father. He receives abusive and neglecting
treatment from his father. Which is why he carries around so much hate in his heart because he never
received the caring love of his father. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Dan in this series, because he is poor, nerdy, and of course not attractive. He is considered the
underdog or lonely boy of this series, but because of a school dance he becomes a somebody when he
punched Chuck Bass for trying to rape his sister. After that, Dan becomes noticed by everybody,
including the girl of his dreams Serena van der Woodsen. Dan becomes a hero in Serena s eyes, and a
threat in Chucks . I personally adore Dan s heroic personality and the fact that he works for what he

The Bluest Eye by Toni Morrison
All too often, people are judged based on their appearance, causing them to pretend to be someone
they truly are not. This is true in the instance of racism, which is a socially constructed idea
discriminating against people based on their skin color (Takaki). The people that are victims of this
discrimination will sometimes internalize their feelings when they are separated by a community.
Psychoanalytic theory is seen in a text depicting a character who is motivated by psychological desires
or conflicts. It will show how the human experience is defined by psychological struggle (Tyson). In
Toni Morrison s The Bluest Eye, the character Pecola Breedlove internalizes her discrimination due to
her skin color and her family reputation. By the end of the novel, she is shunned by the community,
and she has no choice but to be her own friend. Pecola is raped by her father, which causes her to
personify her doubts in an attempt to obtain compliments for her blue eyes, as she subconsciously
avoids rejection by her community.
According to the society in which she lives, when Pecola is raped by her father, the community treats
her as an outcast because she could have prevented her pregnancy. Claudia and Frieda overhear
women talking while they are selling seeds, and one of the women says, She carry some of the
blame... How come she didn t fight him [Cholly]? (Morrison 189). Her community believes that
Pecola is equally responsible for being raped, even though the same people admit

Aint No Mountain High Enough And Grenade Comparison
I will jump in front of a train for you! Phrases like this will melt a woman s heart. Musicians normally
express their feelings through lyrics, in various genres of music. One usually turns to another person
for emotional support, but others will direct themselves towards music. In the same way that music
can heal a soul, it is also capable of demonstrating others to show affection for whom they love. One
lesson taught throughout love songs is, love is unconditional affection with no limits or conditions.
Two songs that come to mind are Ain t No Mountain High Enough by Marvin Gaye, and Grenade by
Bruno Mars. Both of these songs talk about love, and passion, however one talks about a desire for
somebody, while the other expresses heartbreak.
Bruno Mars and Marvin Gaye express their love in grand ways. In similarity, they both have a
compassionate and sentimental vibe that speaks to a person emotionally. They both use big gestures to
show the one they love how they feel. Bruno Mars sings I would jump in front of a train for ya, you
know I would do anything for ya , therefore; he is saying he would die for his love. While Marvin ...

reason that Hally and Seaman are loyal is that, Hally s breath made two burglars pass out cold, and
protecting the family from a home invasion. The Tosis family got a huge reward for turning in the
wanted criminals. Likewise, Seaman helped hunt. Seamen chased bleeding deer, and got beavers for

Why The Mona Lisa May Not Be A Painting Essay
When it comes to art appreciation and definition one is left at odds when societal practices do not
reflect theoretically sound arguments regarding the identity of a work. On one hand, paintings like the
Mona Lisa are displayed with great importance in museums around the world, with thousands of
visitors daily trekking to see the Mona Lisa, while just outside vendors are selling copies on canvas,
poster and magnet of the very same image. To help in the understanding of this phenomenon, and to
determine the work identity of the Mona Lisa, we shall examine the validity of arguments put forth by
Frank Sibley in Why the Mona Lisa May Not be a Painting which draws upon several concepts of art
identity put forth by Goodman and Elgin in Interpretation and Identity: Can the Work Survive the
World? . After this examination I will briefly add on to Sibley s arguments bringing them a step
further in conclusion, but let us first begin with the establishing principles of work identity proposed
in the two articles.
When introducing the concept of text being equal to work, Goodman proposes literary pluralism;
where one text produces one work with multiple valid, and allowably contradictory, interpretations.
This pluralism is present only in allographic art forms that are not linked to physical objects. Pluralism
about literature seems more plausible than pluralism about reality . He argues that literature may have
interpretations that conflict, but in the physical world one cannot

The House of Bernarda Alba Essay
The House of Bernarda Alba Federico Garcia Lorca was born in 1898 and died in 1936, he lived
through one of the most troubling times of Spain s history. He grew up in Granada, Spain, and enjoyed

Lab Report Experiment II
ABSTRACT: The main purpose of this lab is to extract the organic compound cinnamaldehyde from
cinnamon. The process used in order to execute the extraction of the cinnamaldehyde is called steam
distillation. After massing the Cinnamaldehyde on a scale in the laboratory, its total mass came out to
0.050 grams. The calculated percent yield came out to around 1.55%. The experiment yielded success
due to the fact that my data fell in the range (of the expected percent yield.)
PROCEDURES: The procedure for this lab experiment is located in Professor Zachary J. Poulos

42 for a detailed procedure regarding this experiment. Refer to the second page in the back of the

After steam distillation occurred, the solvent was exposed to the open air for seven days. The
Cinnamaldehyde built up in the bottom of the test tube, baring the color brown. The calculated actual
percent yield of my experiment was 1.55%. This calculation fell in the range of the literature percent
yield of Cinnamaldehyde which is between 1.00 3.00%. Due to my calculation falling in range to what
is was supposed to be (literature percent yield), I would have to conclude that my experiment in this
lab was successful. However, there are many ways that this experiment could have gone wrong but
didn t. If I had not extracted enough crystals, or spilled some out of my container, my calculation
would not have fell in the range of the literature percent

The Effect Of Creativity On The Classroom
The following section of this paper will be a critical discussion about the materials Elliott discussed in
the chapter. Overall I really enjoyed Elliott s arguments about creativity, I found it very easy to read
and helped open my eyes on the use of creativity in the classroom. The creative philosophy that Elliott
outlines in this chapter was incredibly helpful. I have always thought of the creative aspect in a
classroom as being a compositional project, or improvisation and Elliott s disapproval of that thought
process has cleared some questions I had. There are so many possibilities to involve creativity in the
classroom now, such as with performance, composition, improvisation, listening assignments and
more. I am very excited to get out there and try some new lessons out for myself. Furthermore, the
curriculum tends to feel too broad yet too limited at the exact same time when it comes to creativity.
There are four components in the curriculum and they often seem very segregated. Even in some of
our classes it has always been, write a lesson plan for one of the wings . I really like this idea of Elliott
s to always involve creativity because then it combines the wings. Creativity can take place alongside
performance, historical context or critical evaluation. It is our job as teachers to stop segregating these
wings so that everything is not so blocked off. Taking a step back, what would have been great in this
chapter is if Elliott went into further detail of how to

Women s Influence On The Church Of Women
The role of women in Christianity is directly related to the lack of rights and equality women have
faced and continue to face in society today. Patriarchy and androcentric ideas about God featured in
scripture are the foundation of female oppression despite the several similarities between God and
women. The oversight of women s resemblance to God is responsible for the oppression of women in
Christianity. Throughout scripture, there is maternal imagery of God in relationship to their love for
children, compassion, and ability to provide for others; thus, proving the significance of women in the
church. Without Mothers, the humankind would not exist. Per Christian belief, God is responsible for
the presence of all creatures: the survival of others depends on her initiative and her industry (Johnson
100). Mothers create children just as God created Adam and Eve. Another example of God and
Mother s co creation is Julian of Norwich s third revelation: that as truly as our lord God, almighty
wisdom, all love, has made everything that exists, so truly he does and brings about everything that
has done (Dutton, 37). This is a prevalent theme throughout Christianity and is widely supported by
theologians. If it is true, God s responsibility of creation is identical to the strictly biological purpose
of women. Unfortunately, when women are either unable to or choose not to procreate, the fact that
maternal thinking is a moral activity leaves these women feeling

The Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act of 1994 (DSHEA) as a product not a drug. The
product contains vitamins, minerals, amino acids, herbs, and dietary constituents for use to supplement
the diet ( Using Dietary Supplements Wisely, 2014). Like medications, dietary supplements exert both

American Indian or Alaska Native adults (50.3%) and white adults (43.1%) were more likely to use
CAM than Asian adults (39.9%) or black adults (25.5%). Children whose parent used CAM were
almost five times as likely (23.9%) (Barnes et al., 2008, p.1).
Because natural products or herbal remedies become prevalent usage among adults in America, it is
very important to acknowledge if an herbal product is safe or useful for certain health conditions and
its potential interaction with other drugs causing toxicity. For example, evening primrose oil may
interact with anticoagulants and antiplatelet medications ( VP PRECIP , 2014). Bayles (2009) stated
that the seeds of the evening primrose are rich in omega 6 essential fatty acids (EFAs), including

properties, which help to reduce inflammatory. Evening primrose oil (Oenothera biennis) is a native
North American plant. Evening primrose oil (EPO) is commonly use in breast pain, premenstrual
symptoms (PMS), menopausal, cancer, asthma, diabetes, and other chronic inflammatory diseases
such as rheumatoid arthritis and eczema (Bayles, 2009). EPO is well tolerated by most individuals.

Student Motivation Of Student Observation
For my off campus lesson observation I was fortunate enough to go visit one of my favorite teachers
from high school, Kirsten Galanter. She has been teaching at Evergreen High School for 7 years and
teachers family and consumer sciences classes. During high school I took one of her classes every
year and she was one of the reasons I decided to pursue a career in education. Through the two classes
I observed on Thursday November 30th, I was able to to see how she used different strategies for each
of her classes, and then how this effected the students engagement and classroom environment. The
very first class I was able to observe was Child Psychology Kids, which is a class I took during my
time in high school. In this class students who are upperclassmen learn about the growth and
development of kindergarten and first grade aged children and get to work one on one with
kindergarteners/first graders two times a week. During the time I observed I was actually able to
watch the high school students interact with their elementary school buddies . What surprised me the
most about the high schoolers is how self motivated they all were. Mrs. Galanter didn t have to remind
them of the class procedures or when to it was time to head over to the elementary school, all of the
high school students did everything on their own, and every transition was smooth. Even when the
high schoolers were working with their buddies they knew exactly what to do and what was expected
of them, and the time spent in the elementary school also went smoothly. These smooth transitions and
the students understanding of their expectations can only be contributed to Mrs. Galanter and her
ability to enforce these schedules and expectations with her students. When I was a student of hers, I
was fully aware of what she expected of me constantly and she held all of her students to such high
expectations. Every day the class schedule was consistent so every student knew what to expect and
how the class functioned. Her thought out planning of each days schedule, and high expectations for
her students have obviously led to a well run class of self managers. The next class I observed was

back lash from the Native American communities demanding that they change their name and mascot
due its racial insensitivity and stereotyping of the Native American people. Some will debate that sport
team names and mascots like that of the Red Skins, Cleveland Indians, Atlanta Braves or the Chicago

During the air crash, the author had thought about many things. At the moment, his goals in life,
people he wanted to contact with but did not, and things he has not achieved all came into his mind.
Then he realized that he had so many things to do, but he did not spend his time right when he had
time, and now he knew that he should use the time right but he did not have the time. He could not
postpone anything in life. When the plane passed the George Washington Bridge, he thought about
one thing that he regretted to do, and the relationship with his wife, friends, and people. Afterwards, as
he reflected on that, he decided to eliminate negative energy from his life. It s not perfect, but it s a lot

The Investigation Middle Miocene Rocks Of Siwa Oasis...
VI.2 Paleoecology and paleoenvironment: The investigated Middle Miocene rocks of Siwa Oasis
contain a rich macroinvertebrate fauna. A total of 1,618 sample were collected, dominated by oysters
(58.03%), pectinids (12.54%), echinoids (5.68%), bivalves (14.77%), and gastropods (8.96%) (Fig.
39). Instead of their great abundance they surprisingly show a low diversity, and they are randomly
distributed all over the successions (Figs.12, 13, 15, 17). But it is noticeable that the Oasis and
Escarpment Member are more favorable for oysters and pectinids, while El Diffa Plateau Member was
dominated by gastropods (Fig. 12). In order to understand the paleoecology and paleoenvironment of
the Middle Miocene time of Siwa Oasis a detailed investigation of the abovementioned faunal groups
will be discussed.
VI.2.1 Oysters They are the most dominant element of the benthic community in the Miocene of
Egypt. Until now, oysters from the study area were only mentioned in passing by a few authors (Gindy
et al., 1969; El Shazly and Abdel Hamid, 2001). Like their modern representatives, oysters cement
themselves onto the substrate by their left valves. Most cementing bivalves are found in shallow water
environments having depths of less than 35 m (Kauffmann, 1969). Modern oysters are typically
founded in estuaries, bays, and tidal creeks from brackish water (5 parts per thousand [ppt] salinity) to
normal marine water (35 ppt salinity) (Loosanoff, 1965). They are very tolerant organisms, able

Why Did Japanese Chose Pulau Ubin As Their Divergent And...
Why did Japanese chose Pulau Ubin as their divergent and went attacking from the West and not East?
How did the Japanese army manage to cross over through sea and river?
All these precise planning made by the Japanese army was the cause of the poor leadership of LT.
GEN Arthur Percival. Percival failed in his judgment and was complacent as he underestimate the
capability of the enemy, thinking that they are less likely able to attack from the North West due to the
tough terrain. This area of the island was mostly mangrove swamp and jungle, broken by rivers and
creeks. The British had confidently predicted that the Japanese would attack from the sea. This
explained why all the defences on Singapore pointed out to sea. It was inconceivable to British
military planners that the island could be attacked any other way least of all, through the jungle and
mangrove swamps of the Malay Peninsula. Therefore, the defence on the North West of Singapore
was weak as the Australian forces deployed there was small and the terrain have prohibited the allies
in their construction of defence obstacles and also reduction in their fields of fire. Besides, he was also
fearfully aware that an attack could come from any corner: land, sea, or air, therefore, he fatally
dispersed his forces.
However, on the other side General Tomoyuki Yamashita was a more competent and mission focused
leader whom practice critical thinking. From aerial reconnaissance, scouts, infiltrators and high

Social Responsibility Of KLM And Northwest Airlines
In 1967, KLM had moved their airport to Schiphol, Netherlands with improvements to the length of
the runway and the airport infrastructure. The 1970 s introduced the new generation aircrafts called
wide bodies. KLM found this as an opportunity to increase their transportation services by purchasing
the new Boeing 707. This aircraft has the capability to fit over 500 passengers. This aircraft was the
start of mass transportation for KLM as they are able to fly more passengers than before. In 1989, for
the first time in the history of air transport, an alliance was reached: KLM and the US carrier
Northwest Airlines merged to offer their customers convenient access to both their networks. A first
open skies agreement was reached in 1991 between the Netherlands and the United States, allowing
for all KLM and Northwest Airlines flights between Europe and the United States to be operated on a
joint venture basis starting in 1993 (History, n.d.). After that, KLM began mergers with other airlines
such as NLM Cityhopper and Netherlines for domestic and international routes.

Dangers Of Being A Police Officer
When one is thinking about a career in law enforcement there is a lot to consider. The job can be
stressful and come with a lot of dangerous situation. Being a police officer can be a very rewarding
job and can make you have a sense of purpose. Police officers can be put into dangerous situation very
quickly, so they have to be able to think quickly on their feet. One may become a police officer for the
sense of reward, but it comes with a lot of stress and dangers.
Policeman can have a stressful job and sometimes it gets in the way of their lives away from work.

Without incorporating some type of stress reliever the job may become overwhelming and can lead to
serious health problems. The majority of police officers are men and a small percentage are women.
This field is mostly dominated by men and has been for many years. According to University of San
Diego (2017), talks about how women can have a positive effect in this field. When dealing with sex
assaults the female victim may not want to talk to a male this is where the female police officer may
have a positive impact. Many women who are looking may face a problem with equality when trying
to find a job. Most law enforcement departments are looking for physically fit and upper body strength
and sometimes there is a stereotypes of women being weak; however, that is not always the case.
Studies have found that women can make a positive impact on the community. In the beginning of the
semester we were required to take a career test, my results were that I tested high in public safety. I
think this is true, it goes along with the career that I plan on going into. Taking this test just made me
realize that it is the right career for me.
In conclusion, becoming a police officer is a big decision and is a lot to consider. The job can be
dangerous and come with a lot of stress; however it can be very rewarding. When first becoming a
police officer it may be difficult to adjust to work and home life, but it can be managed.

Leadership Styles Of Leadership And Leadership
My leadership philosophy is to be approachable, understanding and kind towards others. To make
sound decisions under stressful situations. I believe that teamwork, communication and collaboration
can resolve any challenge. To continue to grow and be an advocate for childcare to and be a good
listener and communicator. To reflect on my process, and rely on mentors for guidance. In addition I
will blend different styles of leadership and theories to suit situations. Most importantly I want to be a
leader who puts others first.
Through personality assessments I learned that I needed to incorporate and balance various types of
leadership skills such as participative, delegative and authoritarian. I learned to implement different
leadership theories like Contingency, and Transnational leadership. I had to learn how to be a leader
verses a manager. I also learned and incorporated different leadership roles such as community
leadership, conceptual leadership and an advocacy leadership role. In developing good leadership
skills, the personality assessment was the first step I took to discover what type of leader I am. I
learned that I have a participative leadership style. This style often leads to effective and accurate
decision making because I rely on my staff to help in the decision making process. However, I
discovered that to be a good leader I needed to balance out my skills between participative, delegative
and authoritarian styles.

There is a match at R[4],R[9] R[18]. Neglect already visited elements. Hence b(0)=[0,4,9,18). Repeat
step 1 with the remaining elements of the bin of step 2 and store them in the same bin. This will form
one bin.
Here, Step 1 is repeated with other elements of bin ie. 4, 9 and 18 values. For elements 4 19, there is
no match of values in R[27]. For element 18, there is a match at R[6], R[7], R[12], R[15]. Thus the bin
b(0) is updated to (0, 4, 9, 18, 3, 6, 7, 12, 15).
We continue to do so till all the elements of the bin are visited.
So, elements 3, 12 and 15 have no match. But element 6 has a match at R[1], R[2], R[10] and R[19].
Element 7 has a match at R[5].
Hence, the updated bin after all computations. b(0) is (0,4,9,3,6,7,1,2,10,11,19,5,12,15,18,21) Now the

Defining Accreditation
Accreditation is defined as a verification system in which correctional agencies must comply with
under the American Correctional Association. Privatization brings about competition between prisons
and jails in the community. As a result, prisons and jails are encouraged to make improvements as
deemed necessary. In addition to affecting prisons and jails, accreditation and privatization also has an
effect on the professional development of corrections officers. In recent years, the correctional
administration has become quite familiar with accreditation and professionalization. For example, the
correctional administration is familiar with professionalization because there are many people residing
in the United States whom work within the field of corrections. These job titles include but are not
limited to probation officers, parole officers, and police officers. It is very imperative for parole and
probation officers to remain professional when dealing with their clients. Also, correctional officers
must remain professional when working with their clients. The only difference is the degree of
professionalism between parole/probation officers and correctional officers. In order for an individual
to become either a probation or parole officer, he or she must obtain a college degree. He or she must
also have a clean record with no criminal activity. After these requirements are met, the individual
must pass the civil service test in order to receive eligibility of becoming a

As seen with the Nike equality campaign commercial, Nike is calling for those who buy their products
to almost break through the current social boundaries and to move past these lines. The quote of
moving past these lines aids in furthering the post Fordist concept of uniqueness as it almost
encourages one to think outside the box and to be different by going against societal limitations and
norms while in hopes of striving for equality; it gives a sense of inspiration to those who witness the
commercial. Nike is commanding for not only their consumer base, but all those who view this ad to
be active in fighting for equality for all races and other minority groups. Nike believes this idea starts
with you, and not by those who are atop the social hierarchy like those in governmental positions;
taking a bottom to top approach. This idea exemplified by Nike gives the consumer a stronger feeling
of empowerment within the world in which they live. The idea of individual self control and power is
further highlighted through the quote by the narrator, Michael B. Jordan, who states here you re
defined by your actions. In this instance, each individual in society is considered for being responsible
for change. Nike s willingness of taking into account the various people who make up society is

Proctor and Gamble Scope Case Analysis 1) What significant changes have occurred in the Canadian
mouthwash market in the past three years? The mouthwash market had grown on an average increase
of 3% per year for 12 years. Then in 1987, with the introduction of new flavors it shot up 26%, and
after that it continued at a steady increase of 5% per year. Originally, Listerine was the market leader.
It positioned itself as a germ killing mouthwash that eliminated bad breath. Scope was introduced in

protection. Scope branded itself not only protection to bad breath, but also that it tasted better than the

In food stores, Scope held a 42% market share, whereas in drugstores, it only held a 27$ market share.
This is significant because drugstores are where 65% of mouthwash sales come from, and only 25% of
sales come from food stores. Scope is priced slightly below average at food stores and 16% below
average at drugstores. Listerine and Listermint are priced above average at food stores and slightly
below average at drugstores. Overall, Scope has a strong presence in the market for mouthwash. It has
the leading market share in the Canadian market. Consumers that purchase Scope do so because it is
better tasting than other mouthwashes that prevent bad breath. Scope excels in food stores, but has
room to increase sales in drugstores because that is where most mouthwash purchases occur. With the
introduction of Plax, Scope s market share could potentially be threatened. The market is shifting
towards health related benefits of mouthwash and not just fresh breath and good taste. 3) What are the
pros and cons of the options available for Scope? A) Do nothing: One option available for Scope is to

In The Late 1890S They Would Begin To Experiment With Gliders
In the late 1890s they would begin to experiment with gliders of their own. They knew they had to
master the art of controlling flight before they could invent this mechanical flyer. Much of their early
ideas with gliders would be derived from bicycles as they felt bicycles and flyers were not as different
as they seemed. The bicycle required stability and they compared it to the need for lateral balance in a
flyer. Orville thought this problem could be solved with the wings. He figured if they pilot could
control parts of the wing tips it could create force to give balance to the machine. He would create an
early sketch of it and basically is was a lever the would cause one wing to go up and the other to go
down in the opposite direction ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They would need a place with suitable high wind speeds to keep their experimentation going. In their
hometown of southern Ohio consistent high wind speeds were uncommon to say the least. Wilbur
figured finding such a place on their own could be problematic. Wilbur would end up writing to an
expert on aviation at the time, Octave Chanute. Octave provided possible places to conduct his
experiment and other questions Wilbur had regarding their experiment. In 1900 Wilbur had decided
Kitty Hawk, North Carolina would be a perfect location with its constant high wind speeds. When
they arrived at their new testing sight they began assembling their glider from back home. Initially
they tested their glider without a pilot to make sure it was working correctly and was safe for use.
Eventually they would fly the glider as the pilot and it could sustain flight for as long as two minutes.
This seemed like a major accomplishment but was just the start of their goal. They were far from the
first to achieve flight, but their wing and elevation ideas were proved successful. Also, this gave them
much needed practice in piloting a flying machine most importantly. They would again take a break
with their experiments after this attempt and return a year later. This time they had built a second
glider but it was much larger than its predecessor. Though the size was impressive it turned out to be a
failure. They did succeed in getting it

The Era Of The Colonial Era
1. The Colonial Era
In this era people were self dependent on growing their own food as well as making clothes for
themselves. In today s times we rely on retail shopping for our clothes and food. There are separate
markets for each providing room for progress in society.
As far as the business side goes in this era, most businesses were small and relied on local profit alone.
In society today, while small businesses do still exist more often than not most corporations are
relying on profit across the globe. This way more profit and jobs can be made.
The Industrial Era
The factory system was just being developed in this era. This was the beginning of a major way in
which businesses would grow. Still today we use techniques for this time bust we have improved on
the efficiency of how products are made. Also putting laws in place for no child labor which was a
great improvement.
Specialty or larger stores began to compete with the general or smaller stores that were prominent in
the previous era. Trade became less important, and with this the market economy was born. We have
improved this system with finding a good balance in big corporations and smaller businesses. This
allows the system to function much easier and there is much more room for success from several

The age of Titans
Some called this the second industrial revolution. This was an age of many people building business
empires. To this day many businesses

  • 2. The High School Student Program Choice is a luxury most in rural China cannot afford but, as a 16 year old girl who had just arrived to the United States, the myriad of choices that lay before me was extremely awesome. I equated the impressive array of choice in terms related to good fortune or even wealth, and this beginning would serve as the impetus to my achievements in this country thus far. But, what compelled me to leave my home and family, and travel alone to this country, was to become educated. Where I am from in China, education seems almost to be a type of magic that can only be wished for; it is elusive to most. I recognized that education lay at the core of opportunity, and if I focused and worked hard I could one day share the good fortune of choice as well as the magic that only education can inspire others, both here as well as in China. I arrived to the U.S. as a high school junior under the J 1 Visa, Secondary School Student Program and had the privilege to have stayed in Virginia with a family headed by parents who are both school teachers. Upon completion, I obtained an F 1 student visa and completed my senior year in 2011 at a rural boarding school in northeast Georgia. Upon arriving to Drexel University (Drexel) as a freshman I had already decided that my future professional life would, in some way, be in education. After transferring to New York University (NYU) as a junior, I would choose a degree in economics, which I felt to be fundamental in terms of my aspirations as a leader ... • 3. The Socio-Cultural Analysis Of India The Socio Cultural Analysis of India Culture is defined as The arts, beliefs, customs, institutions, and other products of human work and thought considered as a unit, especially with regard to a particular time or social group by American Heritage Dictionary of the English Language (2011). Also, the Dictionary of Military and Associated Terms (2005) defines culture as A feature of the terrain that has been constructed by man. Included are such items as roads, buildings, and canals; boundary lines; and, in a broad sense, all names and legends on a map . In a nutshell, culture is everything that makes up the basic ways of life. Culture is comprised of five basic characteristics. Culture is learned, shared, symbolic, integrated, and dynamic (Bueno, 2012). This means that aspects of culture are spread by social interactions such as trade, language and other communication technologies. Some of the more common forms of communication technologies and language are movies, television shows, literature, arts, and local history. Symbolism is similar to the learned and shared aspects in many ways. Language, literature, and the arts are all major ways in which the symbolism of a specific culture is spread. The integration of culture is based on pattern. The specific dimensions of social life create social norms that are followed. The economy and politics are two of the more prevalent forms of social life that lead to the patterns of integration. Lastly, there is a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Gnosticism And Tertullian s Development Of Christian... During a time where Gnostic ideology was one of the heresies gaining momentum, Tertullian and Irenaeus were two of the individuals that brilliantly defended the faith. They saw Gnosticism through the same lens as many other Church Fathers, as nothing else but a heresy. In their time this was a real threat to the true faith that was laid out for them through the Scriptures and through the oral tradition passed down by the apostles. Like many heresies, Gnosticism started off within a Christian foundation. However, what makes it more interesting is that Gnosticism as philosophy or the ideology as a whole may have predated Christianity since we see some epistles arguing against some of the Gnostic principles (Kelly 23). To further refute the heresy, Irenaeus and Tertullian had a tremendous contribution in the development of Christian apologetics. While similar, many have credited Irenaeus to his ecclesiological development and Tertullian to his Christological development in the early Church. Through the writings of Irenaeus, we quickly learn of how he viewed the Scriptures and the apostles. Irenaeus laid his argument by stating a foundation that every Christian would agree with, which was that Christ himself is the ultimate source of Christian doctrine. While this may seem very intuitive, it is because of this foundation that Irenaeus lays out that he is able to further develop his argument. Irenaeus continues with this argument by stating that Christ has revealed his message ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Behind Closed Doors In Girl By Jamaica Kincaid After diving much into the short story, Girl by Jamaica Kincaid, a casual reader would nonchalantly read this short story, and observe the strict mentoring or teaching aspect. Like most stories there should be a sense of curiosity when we read them. Inspecting this story on a more personal level has opened many doors of speculation. Applying the phrase behind closed doors literally, we are going to dive deeper into the story. Looking not only at the story itself, but also finding nits and bits of the story that gives a larger insight on the writer and her intentions. As briefly stated before, the story leans more towards the strict aspect. It involves a young girl, a daughter specifically, being lectured on ways to be lady like or depending ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Kincaid, being from the two Caribbean island of Antigua and Barbuda, is basically Caribbean. Which could give the story more of a different feel, depending on where it takes place. Being raised in a Caribbean household, and having mostly Caribbean friends, I was widely exposed to this lifestyle. The parents were harsher towards their children, when punishing or giving lectures. Another point which gives hint to the Caribbean viewpoint is the phrase that comes up in the story. Which says but I don t sing benna on Sundays at all and never in Sunday school. Two point of views come out of this, one being the idea of benna, which is simply Calypso music. Which is a music that originated in the Caribbean islands. Another being the emphasis on the day of Sunday. Minor sentence, but gives a lot of information in the few words it gives. Growing up my mother not only spoke about church, but emphasized going on Sundays, which is different for many different backgrounds. Jewish being a prime example, considering they attend temple on Saturday. So taking into consideration the author and key terms used in the story, it could point to a culture. And with culture comes a lifestyle and practice which should be taken into much consideration when reading stories from unknown ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Comparing The Characters Of Chuck Bass And Dan Humphrey As popular characters of the outstanding TV series Gossip Girl, Chuck Bass and Dan Humphrey are my two most liked characters. I admire how they are two completely different people, who come from different backgrounds. Dan is the typical nerdy boy who can only get into an elite school by receiving scholarships for his intelligence. Chuck on the other hand is a wealthy, greedy, and obnoxiously captivating boy who buys people like Dan Humphrey to do his school work while he handles a part of his father s business and womanizes any girl his father s money can buy. These two share an abundant amount of contradictions. Chuck is portrayed as an opulent and conceited vile boy in this popular series; with all of his rich and fame he is truly the most well known character for assertiveness and the fact that he goes everywhere in a limo. Even though he has a beastly personality, when it comes to the one who he truly loves and adores he breaks down into a charming man unless it is his father. He receives abusive and neglecting treatment from his father. Which is why he carries around so much hate in his heart because he never received the caring love of his father. ... He is considered the underdog or lonely boy of this series, but because of a school dance he becomes a somebody when he punched Chuck Bass for trying to rape his sister. After that, Dan becomes noticed by everybody, including the girl of his dreams Serena van der Woodsen. Dan becomes a hero in Serena s eyes, and a threat in Chucks . • 7. The Bluest Eye by Toni Morrison All too often, people are judged based on their appearance, causing them to pretend to be someone they truly are not. This is true in the instance of racism, which is a socially constructed idea discriminating against people based on their skin color (Takaki). The people that are victims of this discrimination will sometimes internalize their feelings when they are separated by a community. Psychoanalytic theory is seen in a text depicting a character who is motivated by psychological desires or conflicts. It will show how the human experience is defined by psychological struggle (Tyson). In Toni Morrison s The Bluest Eye, the character Pecola Breedlove internalizes her discrimination due to her skin color and her family reputation. By the end of the novel, she is shunned by the community, and she has no choice but to be her own friend. Pecola is raped by her father, which causes her to personify her doubts in an attempt to obtain compliments for her blue eyes, as she subconsciously avoids rejection by her community. According to the society in which she lives, when Pecola is raped by her father, the community treats her as an outcast because she could have prevented her pregnancy. Claudia and Frieda overhear women talking while they are selling seeds, and one of the women says, She carry some of the blame... How come she didn t fight him [Cholly]? (Morrison 189). Musicians normally express their feelings through lyrics, in various genres of music. One usually turns to another person for emotional support, but others will direct themselves towards music. In the same way that music can heal a soul, it is also capable of demonstrating others to show affection for whom they love. One lesson taught throughout love songs is, love is unconditional affection with no limits or conditions. Two songs that come to mind are Ain t No Mountain High Enough by Marvin Gaye, and Grenade by Bruno Mars. Both of these songs talk about love, and passion, however one talks about a desire for somebody, while the other expresses heartbreak. Bruno Mars and Marvin Gaye express their love in grand ways. In similarity, they both have a compassionate and sentimental vibe that speaks to a person emotionally. They both use big gestures to show the one they love how they feel. • 12. Why The Mona Lisa May Not Be A Painting Essay When it comes to art appreciation and definition one is left at odds when societal practices do not reflect theoretically sound arguments regarding the identity of a work. On one hand, paintings like the Mona Lisa are displayed with great importance in museums around the world, with thousands of visitors daily trekking to see the Mona Lisa, while just outside vendors are selling copies on canvas, poster and magnet of the very same image. To help in the understanding of this phenomenon, and to determine the work identity of the Mona Lisa, we shall examine the validity of arguments put forth by Frank Sibley in Why the Mona Lisa May Not be a Painting which draws upon several concepts of art identity put forth by Goodman and Elgin in Interpretation and Identity: Can the Work Survive the World? . After this examination I will briefly add on to Sibley s arguments bringing them a step further in conclusion, but let us first begin with the establishing principles of work identity proposed in the two articles. When introducing the concept of text being equal to work, Goodman proposes literary pluralism; where one text produces one work with multiple valid, and allowably contradictory, interpretations. This pluralism is present only in allographic art forms that are not linked to physical objects. Pluralism about literature seems more plausible than pluralism about reality . He argues that literature may have interpretations that conflict, but in the physical world one cannot ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 15. The Effect Of Creativity On The Classroom The following section of this paper will be a critical discussion about the materials Elliott discussed in the chapter. Overall I really enjoyed Elliott s arguments about creativity, I found it very easy to read and helped open my eyes on the use of creativity in the classroom. The creative philosophy that Elliott outlines in this chapter was incredibly helpful. I have always thought of the creative aspect in a classroom as being a compositional project, or improvisation and Elliott s disapproval of that thought process has cleared some questions I had. There are so many possibilities to involve creativity in the classroom now, such as with performance, composition, improvisation, listening assignments and more. I am very excited to get out there and try some new lessons out for myself. Furthermore, the curriculum tends to feel too broad yet too limited at the exact same time when it comes to creativity. There are four components in the curriculum and they often seem very segregated. Even in some of our classes it has always been, write a lesson plan for one of the wings . I really like this idea of Elliott s to always involve creativity because then it combines the wings. Creativity can take place alongside performance, historical context or critical evaluation. It is our job as teachers to stop segregating these wings so that everything is not so blocked off. Taking a step back, what would have been great in this chapter is if Elliott went into further detail of how to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 17. Women s Influence On The Church Of Women The role of women in Christianity is directly related to the lack of rights and equality women have faced and continue to face in society today. Patriarchy and androcentric ideas about God featured in scripture are the foundation of female oppression despite the several similarities between God and women. The oversight of women s resemblance to God is responsible for the oppression of women in Christianity. Throughout scripture, there is maternal imagery of God in relationship to their love for children, compassion, and ability to provide for others; thus, proving the significance of women in the church. Without Mothers, the humankind would not exist. Per Christian belief, God is responsible for the presence of all creatures: the survival of others depends on her initiative and her industry (Johnson 100). Mothers create children just as God created Adam and Eve. Another example of God and Mother s co creation is Julian of Norwich s third revelation: that as truly as our lord God, almighty wisdom, all love, has made everything that exists, so truly he does and brings about everything that has done (Dutton, 37). This is a prevalent theme throughout Christianity and is widely supported by theologians. If it is true, God s responsibility of creation is identical to the strictly biological purpose of women. Unfortunately, when women are either unable to or choose not to procreate, the fact that maternal thinking is a moral activity leaves these women feeling ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 19. Student Motivation Of Student Observation For my off campus lesson observation I was fortunate enough to go visit one of my favorite teachers from high school, Kirsten Galanter. She has been teaching at Evergreen High School for 7 years and teachers family and consumer sciences classes. During high school I took one of her classes every year and she was one of the reasons I decided to pursue a career in education. Through the two classes I observed on Thursday November 30th, I was able to to see how she used different strategies for each of her classes, and then how this effected the students engagement and classroom environment. The very first class I was able to observe was Child Psychology Kids, which is a class I took during my time in high school. In this class students who are upperclassmen learn about the growth and development of kindergarten and first grade aged children and get to work one on one with kindergarteners/first graders two times a week. During the time I observed I was actually able to watch the high school students interact with their elementary school buddies . What surprised me the most about the high schoolers is how self motivated they all were. Mrs. Galanter didn t have to remind them of the class procedures or when to it was time to head over to the elementary school, all of the high school students did everything on their own, and every transition was smooth. Even when the high schoolers were working with their buddies they knew exactly what to do and what was expected of them, and the time spent in the elementary school also went smoothly. These smooth transitions and the students understanding of their expectations can only be contributed to Mrs. Galanter and her ability to enforce these schedules and expectations with her students. When I was a student of hers, I was fully aware of what she expected of me constantly and she held all of her students to such high expectations. Every day the class schedule was consistent so every student knew what to expect and how the class functioned. Her thought out planning of each days schedule, and high expectations for her students have obviously led to a well run class of self managers. How did the Japanese army manage to cross over through sea and river? All these precise planning made by the Japanese army was the cause of the poor leadership of LT. GEN Arthur Percival. As seen with the Nike equality campaign commercial, Nike is calling for those who buy their products to almost break through the current social boundaries and to move past these lines. The quote of moving past these lines aids in furthering the post Fordist concept of uniqueness as it almost encourages one to think outside the box and to be different by going against societal limitations and norms while in hopes of striving for equality; it gives a sense of inspiration to those who witness the commercial. Nike is commanding for not only their consumer base, but all those who view this ad to be active in fighting for equality for all races and other minority groups. Nike believes this idea starts with you, and not by those who are atop the social hierarchy like those in governmental positions; taking a bottom to top approach. This idea exemplified by Nike gives the consumer a stronger feeling of empowerment within the world in which they live. They knew they had to master the art of controlling flight before they could invent this mechanical flyer. Much of their early ideas with gliders would be derived from bicycles as they felt bicycles and flyers were not as different as they seemed. The bicycle required stability and they compared it to the need for lateral balance in a flyer. Orville thought this problem could be solved with the wings. He figured if they pilot could control parts of the wing tips it could create force to give balance to the machine. They would need a place with suitable high wind speeds to keep their experimentation going. In their hometown of southern Ohio consistent high wind speeds were uncommon to say the least. Wilbur figured finding such a place on their own could be problematic. Wilbur would end up writing to an expert on aviation at the time, Octave Chanute. Octave provided possible places to conduct his experiment and other questions Wilbur had regarding their experiment. In 1900 Wilbur had decided Kitty Hawk, North Carolina would be a perfect location with its constant high wind speeds. When they arrived at their new testing sight they began assembling their glider from back home. Initially they tested their glider without a pilot to make sure it was working correctly and was safe for use. Eventually they would fly the glider as the pilot and it could sustain flight for as long as two minutes. This seemed like a major accomplishment but was just the start of their goal. They were far from the first to achieve flight, but their wing and elevation ideas were proved successful. Also, this gave them much needed practice in piloting a flying machine most importantly. They would again take a break with their experiments after this attempt and return a year later. This time they had built a second glider but it was much larger than its predecessor. Though the size was impressive it turned out to be a failure. They did succeed in getting it ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
