Exaggeration of Despair in Sherman Alexie s Reservation...
Exaggeration of Despair in Sherman Alexie s Reservation Blues
Gloria Bird realizes that for generations Native Americans have had drinking problems, and she also realizes that it is difficult for
native writers to accurately represent our communities without exploiting them. (G. Bird) However, Bird criticizes Alexie of
embellishing or exaggerating the Native Americans despair. Alexie cannot ignore the alcohol situation when describing Native
American culture, but Alexie does not need to make alcoholism a common trait amongst almost every Indian on the reservation and
other reservations.
Bird s statement concerning Alexie s embellishment of Native American despair due to alcoholism is an accurate interpretation of

Chess asked Thomas if his mother drink when she was alive, and Thomas responded with She did. Bu she quit. She was sober when
she died. (p.118) Thomas goes on to say that she quit because of an incident during a New Year s Eve party. Dad got real drunk,
kicked everybody out, and then took all the furniture out on the front lawn, and burned it. (p.118)
Alexie does not just mention that Samuel is a drunk; he goes further to say that Samuel was an extremely talented basketball player,
but alcohol caused Samuel to throw his basketball future away. Even when Samuel was a young man he was drinking, when the
tribal cop, Wilson, asked Samuel and Lester, You two been drinking? (p.102) Lester responds with I ve been drinking since I was
five...Kindergarten is hard on a man. (p.102) Lester is another secondary character that is introduced who happens to be a drunk, for
that is how he got his name Lester FallsApart. Lester FallsApart, the most accomplished drunk on the Spokane Reservation, (p.151)
However, It could be worse for Thomas, because both Victor s and Junior s fathers were not just drunks but were also dead.
In Reservation Blues, not much information is given about Victor s parents; there are only references to the death of Victor s father
in Arizona and the simple fact that his mother is dead. The reason his father died in Arizona is that he could not bear any longer to
live on the Spokane Reservation after what he did. One night he got drunk and

Characteristics Of The Mayan Civilizations
There are many different types of civilizations. Three major ones are the Aztec, Maya, and Inca . These different civilizations play a
very important role in history today. The Maya empire was highly skilled at building and architecture. They also were the only
empire in mesoamerica to develop a complete writing system. The Maya were also highly skilled at agriculture and farming. The
Maya were by far the most advanced and smart civilization. The Maya empire was very precise and exact when it came to
architecture. Mayans built their cities with all of the important buildings in the middle such as palaces and temples. The homes and
other small buildings were located on the outside. This was beneficial because everyone could access the ... Show more content on

Maya writing is in a way similar to modern Japanese writing used today. The hieroglyphic writing was carved in a series of squares
on the wall with a sharp tool created by the Mayan people. Scientists and archaeologists today are able to understand some, but not
all of Mayan hieroglyphics. This civilization also wrote in books. These books were made of leaves, bark, or leather and glued
together with a stucco layer. These types of books were often protected with animal skin or wooden boards. All of these facts
conclude that the Mayan writing was much more advanced and intricate than other civilizations. Agriculture or farming played a
very important role in the ancient Mayan civilization. The mayans were smart and used the calendar, sun, and the seasons to grow
specific crops. Back when framing first started they always grew way too much food. As a result, they ended up trading their crops
for items. However, at one point in time farming did become somewhat difficult for the Mayans. As the population grew, farmers
found it ever more difficult to grow enough food to feed the growing population. (Linn Don, Maya Empire Agriculture). Farming
was not easy in the Maya region, it was difficult because of the climate, and land. The soil was bad, there was few water sources,
and the forests were very dense and big. However, the Mayans were smart enough to develop a way of farming. Mayan agriculture
was different in every city state because of the unique land. In

(Eros and Psyche)
______________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Eros is the name of a Greek god of love.Eros as far as god s go has been through MANY MANY MAANNYYYYYY
reincarnations and with that said Eros is characterized to be even more powerful then Zeus in part cause he can jerk the guy around
like a puppet.See every myth where Zeus couldn t keep it in his pants, also known as every myth. There s the aspect of Eros that s
the Child of Aphrodite representing love as a consequential beauty and then there s...cupid...We don t like to talk about him.Now

Analysis Of The Poem Lorena By Lucille Clifton
Though out this class I learned a lot, I never really read much poetry and did not realize how much meaning poems can have. I am
glad that we read so many different types and styles of poems and books. It really helped me get a well rounded understanding of
poetry. My favorite unit was the collection unit. The other poems we read taught me a lot about the other topics we touched on as
well. Before this class I never really gave poetry much thought, this class opened up my eyes to how important poetry really is. The
poem that stood out to me the most from the speaker, and narrative vs lyric unit was Lorena by Lucille Clifton. I really enjoyed this
poem and it made it easy for me to understand the concept of speakers. Lucille Clifton wrote the poem, but wrote it about a
experience Lorena Bobbit went through. It was hard for me to understand how a poem could have a speaker other then the author
but this one made me see how sometimes the author is not necessarily the speaker. I thought about/authority and how it always
insisted/on itself (pg. 57, 2 4). These lines contain the phrase I , but when Clifton uses the phrase I , she herself is not the individual,
Lorena Bobbit is meant to be the speaker. This poem was a narrative, it told a story about the even Lorena actually lived through. It
really stood out to me a lot and helped me understand the concept on a deeper level. The poem that stood out to me the most from
the imagery and figurative logic unit was Women by

Creating Robots for a Universal Purpos
There are over 8.6 million robots in the world that have been created for a universal purpose. That purpose is to improve human
life. They do this in many different ways like for example; Robots are used in the Auto Industry to help build automobiles on
assembly lines. It takes around twenty four hours on average to build a new automobile in a factory with the help of these robots.
Without the machinery that is being used on these assembly lines it could take anywhere from three days to a week to build one
automobile. That would also affect the price of said automobile and make it harder to purchase automobiles. Robots help improve
many more functions in everyday life. The purpose of this project is to prove that robots improve upon human life and that the
robots should be used more often.
The first robot was hand built in between four hundred and three hundred fifty B.C. The inventor of the robot was mathematician
Archytas. The robot functioned as a steam powered pigeon. The robot actually worked and at one point flew two hundred meters
before it ran out of steam and landed on the ground. The robot was not very helpful. But it at the time was a great sign of what was
to come in the future. The latest robots to be created are unrecognizable compared to this very first model.
Robots are used every day in countries across the world in assembly lines. An assembly line is a series of workers and machines in
a factory by which a succession of identical items is progressively

Hannah Bailey s Imaginary Adolescents
In American Teen, Hannah Bailey is an adolescent who lives with her grandparents. A teenager who likes art, film, and
photography. She is considered a Rebel in the film. She describes herself as strange and different. Hannah does not fit in with the
rest of the people in Indiana, she is just trying to get through her last year in high school and leave.
In the beginning of the movie, Hannah comes off as a bright, happy, and outgoing girl. However, it soon changed after her
boyfriend, Joel, broke up with her. She really loved him and stated, I can never imagine not having him in my life . (American
Teen) When she found out he cheated on her it broke her heart. She did not attend school for several days because she was
miserable and could not deal with the breakup. Hannah thought people would think of her as disgusting, worthless, stupid, and ugly.
It illustrates the idea of imaginary audience. Adolescents think that all eyes are on them and that everyone is interested in what they
do. In the same fashion, Hannah thinks that everyone at school will look at her and think all those bad things. ... Show more content

The Aesthetic Was Magical Mr Mistoffelees
The Aesthetic was Magical Mr. Mistoffelees
Part of what makes DreamGirls so intoxicating is its dazzling and meticulous aesthetic. From the opening scene, everything flashes,
shimmers and gleams. Elements like spinning mirrors/reflections, glitter and snapping bulbs create this sense of magic that s used to

Not Going, of course. The Dreams first performance is announced over rumbling drums and harking horns, as they appear in an

Ooh, lawd! I don t think I have to explain how magnificent the soundtrack was, but let s go ham about it! I ve heard some

Compare And Contrast A Flapper s Appeal To Parents
Both A Flapper s Appeal to Parents by Ellen Welles Page and Thunder by Imagine Dragons, express and embody a specific
generation and address their elders, which are the parents and grandparents of these individuals. Although, the two pieces use a
different variety of appeals and rhetorical strategies in order to achieve their purpose. These items both have their common
similarities, they also contain aspects that set them apart. In Ellen Welles Page s, A Flapper s Appeal to Parents , she defends her
own generation to the ones that came before her and asks for their help and understanding by using many appeals to do so. Page self
identifies as a flapper herself, so this makes her a fairly reliable source to be able to speak about this topic and educate the reader
about the flapper lifestyle and the responses this group received from their elders. Page uses a broad selection of appeals to

Quantitative Study Of Heat And Enthalpy Changes
PART A
Thermochemistry is the quantitative study of heat and enthalpy changes in chemical reactions. Enthalpy (H) ... is a measure of the
total energy possessed by a substance or group of substances. (Smith 2006, pp. 289). The change in enthalpy (∆H) of a substance is
defined as the heat absorbed or released during a chemical reaction.
A car motor works by converting petrol, also known as chemical energy, to kinetic energy, therefore assisting with the movement of
a car.
A chemical reaction, known as combustion, occurs in the car motor. A combustion reaction consists of a hydrocarbon reacting with
oxygen (O2) to give the products carbon dioxide (CO2) and water (H2O). A hydrocarbon is a compound consisting simply of
Hydrogen (H2) and Carbon (C), methane (CH4) and diesel (C12H23) are examples of a hydrocarbon. The chemical equation for a
combustion reaction is as follows: Hydrocarbon + Oxygen  Carbon Dioxide + Water. The combustion reaction of methane (CH4)
is: CH4 (g) + 2O2 (g)  CO2 (g) + 2H2O (l), the combustion reaction of ethane is: 2C2H6 (g) + 7O2 (g)  4 CO2 (g) + 6 H2O (l)
and the combustion reaction for butane is 2C4H10 (g) +13O2 (g)  8CO2 (g) +10H2O (g). If combustion takes place internally, the
engine is referred to as an internal combustion engine. A diesel engine is an example of this. Internal combustion engines convert
the chemical energy in fuel to mechanical energy via an exothermic reaction.

Algernon Selfishness
The Influence of Being Egotistical Some people will do anything to escape reality. The idea of living a storybook life excites them.
They want to face the good, but not the bad. However, a few of those people take the charade to new levels. They disrupt the lives
of everyone around them and try to run from the consequences. Those people are selfish. In Oscar Wilde s The Importance of Being
Earnest, the reader watches the downfall of a Victorian clique. One of the play s main characters, Algernon, has decided that he
deserves a break from reality. Unsurprisingly, this mindset gets Algy into trouble at times. Algernon earns the well deserved title of
the most shallow and static character through his attitude towards marriage, his perception of others, and his opinion of himself.
Marriage is meant to be a cherished union between two lovers; however, Algernon s behavior towards marriage is inherently
selfish. Many times throughout The Importance of Being Earnest, Algernon acts as though marriage is an outdated and boorish
concept. Directly after Jack confesses his proposal plan to Algernon, Algy says I thought you had come up for pleasure? ... I call

full of unhealthy relationships that one has to assume that nothing will work out in the end. Algernon is an egomaniac, and there is

educational programs. He believes that this is becoming the forbidden fruit , a badge of rebellion and a symbol of adulthood to
young adults. Seen from university students those under the age of 21 are more likely to be binge drinkers(consuming more then 5

ANSWER: When working on a heart in vivo there is the action of both parasympathetic, sympathetic stimulation as well as
hormonal control. In a live animal, the heart will continually be indirectly stimulated by nerve impulses that increase or decrease
heart rate based on bodily activity. There is an absence of those factors in an isolated heart preparation, thus the heart rate will
solely be determined by the sinoatrial node and the external stimuli administered.

Racial Justice Of The United Church Of Christ
Environmental racism is the targeting of minorities and low income communities to bear a disproportionate share of environmental
costs. It refers to any policy or practice that differently affects or disadvantages individuals, groups or communities based on race or
skin color (Schill Austin 1991). Pollution is disproportionately distributed across the country; it is also distributed unequally within
individual states, within counties, and within cities (Schill Austin 1991). Hazardous waste sites, municipal landfills, incinerators,
and other hazardous facilities are disproportionately located in poor and minority neighborhoods (White Newsome 2016). Each
year, America produces 275 million metric tons of hazardous waste. Environmental regulations only regulate 40 million tons of the
waste leaving the rest to be sent to landfills and waste sites (White Newsome 2016). According to research done by The
Commission for Racial Justice of the United Church of Christ, Zip code areas containing at least one hazardous waste site had, on
average, 24% people of color, compared to 12% in areas without a hazardous waste site. Additionally, zip code areas containing
either two or more facilities or one of the five largest hazardous waste landfills in the nation had, on average, 38% people of color
(White Newsome 2016). One of the largest dumping grounds is located in Emelle, Sumter County, Alabama. Sumter County houses

and non paraphilia related conditions (Kafka, 1993). Sexual addiction has been defined by Carnes (1999) as any form of
compulsive behavior that is sex related and obstructs a normal life and eventually becomes uncontrollable, although he has also
referred to it as a pathological affiliation with an experience that alters the mood (Carnes, 1983). By investigating the psychological
motive behind addiction, there seems to be three fundamental classifications: fantasy addictions (sexual activities that break away
from mundane reality), satiation addictions (sexual activities that ease discomfort and tension), and arousal addictions (sexual
activities that thrill and stimulate).Sexual behavior has the ability to encompass all these three classifications of sexual addiction. It
is difficult to determine the level of sexual addiction though approximations vary from three percent to six percent of the population
(Carnes, 1999). In addition, studies show that there exists a high association between childhood abuse and addiction to sex in
adulthood, and it is very common for a sex addict to have gone through significant levels of sexual, physical, and/or emotional
abuse. Socio demographic factors are distorted by

The Case Of The First Waco Horror
Farming was the way of life for a majority of Texans up until the Great Depression. Life was simple and cyclical planting, waiting,
harvesting, and selling. This cycle, broken only by racial violence, was all Texans knew. However, as Texas grew increasingly
connected to the modern world, through technology, a global economy, and an expanding role for the United States Federal
government, that simple life began to change, and not necessarily for the better. All three books show this shift and the effect on the
life of everyday Texans. In the case of The First Waco Horror, increasing connectivity to the United States and even the world
helped to begin to change the view of Lynching and the anti lynching movement gained ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Bernstein s book focuses on how connectivity helped to end lynching, as well as how it increased lynching. The NAACP used the
lynching of Jesse Washington to spread awareness of the atrocities committed in the South and the need to stop them. As Bernstein
points out, the Jesse Washington lynching, was just the barest beginning of a battle that would last for many years (Bernstein 174).
News of the Jesse Washington lynching spread around the United States, and even made its way to a British Newspaper (Bernstein
130). The national and international news coverage began the battle to increase public awareness, and would eventually lead the
dying out of lynchings done by huge crowds. Lynching, however, is an enigma because increasing connectivity led to more
awareness of the issue, but it also increased lynching. As population shifted and the U.S. became more interconnected, for example,
during WWI, a rise in the need for Anglos to control their ever changing environment led to a resurgence of the KKK in the 1920s.
Lynching increased as a method of social control and while it was more socially inappropriate, the number of lynchings did not
decrease significantly until after WWII. Therefore, in the case of racial violence, increased connectivity was a double edged sword.

subsistence farming and production of

Poetry On Acid By Mark Strands
Poetry On Acid
In Mark Strands Eating Poetry, the author tells a story of an altered view of a mundane task, taken with a view not normally
experienced by restrained society. Right or wrong as the author s actions may be, the poet s description of his interactions is quite
engaging. Expressed in three six line stanzas, the writer flows through the highs and lows of an exceptionally intense literary
experience.
In the first stanza, Strand starts his first line with the usage of intense imagery. Ink runs from the corners of my mouth. His usage of
imagery grabs the reader s attention and has us immediately wondering why ink is coming from the corners of his mouth. Ink is
such an odd thing for someone to have coming from their mouth, and with that one line Strand has made us long to read more. Ink
is also traditionally highly toxic, suggesting the writer may have a wish to die a slow, agonizing death. The second line talks about
how happy he is, seemingly in conflict with the first line. This portrays that he enjoys eating ink and is rather happy with himself, as
maddeningly illogical as this may be. Line three is an example of a metaphor. We learn that the reason he has ink in his mouth is
because he was eating poetry. Reality seems to be at odds with what the writer is experiencing, as there would be no way for the ink
to still be liquid. Perhaps the sanity of the writer is in question, and it could be that as he reads the lines of verse he is merely
imagining them as

The Success Of Warner Bros s Harley Quinn
Because Harley Quinn is a DC Comics property, and therefore owned by Warner Bros. Studios, we expect all funding to come from
Warner Bros and DC Entertainment studios. Will believe that this project is something that they will be interested in funding based
on their past financing of DC Comic films as well as the recent success of such films in the past 10 years. While some DC films
have not performed as well as others, Warner Bros. Studios has seemed to find a formula for such films that have proven to be
successful among audiences. In a recent revamping of DC films, Warner Bros. has chosen to present these stories in much dark way
than has ever been done before. This strategy proved to be extremely successful with the hit Dark Knight trilogy.

as now they have even more power as there are no limits or no adults thus this moral code that was enforced on them is corrupted.
(Will S nods) This plot did kind of go off course in some of the bits with the Darkness where it was just kids versus a powerful
entity and the parts with animal mutations. If it focused more on the main plot of no more authority and now kids rule plot, then
Michael could have shown more of the power corrupts ideal. He should have shown Sam losing control of his power and slowly
becoming corrupt because then we would ve seen how absolute power can corrupt absolutely because it took a good hearted person
and turned them bad.

Tyranny Essay
Liberty and On Tyranny
When founding the United States, the founding fathers sought to avoid the tyrannical rule they thought Great Britain exemplified.
In order to do this, the founding fathers looked to history, specifically, the failed democracies of Ancient Greece and Rome, to
model their country after. Now, the United States is regarded as a nation being founded upon and one that upholds the principles of
democracy and liberty. Due to the United States association with liberty and democracy, it has become the common assumption that
tyrannical rule could never occur here. However, recent occurrences of authoritarianism in Europe throughout the twentieth century,
show that there is not much of a difference between Americans today and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This was reminiscent of both Fascist and Communist denial of truths. By rejecting truth it is impossible to operate within a
democracy. When people do not know what to believe it allows tyrants to manipulate the truth in their favor. Snyder also regards
the other facets of the first amendment, such as freedom of speech, the right to assemble and petition as important to a democratic
state. These rights limit the power of the government, and allow the people to influence it without fear of punishment.
Snyder also realizes the importance of establishing a private life. Throughout this lesson, Snyder references Hannah Arendt, a
German born American political theorist. Arendt believes that the beginning of totalitarianism is rather the blurring of public and
private lives than the seizure of power by an all powerful dictatorial state. Snyder makes a point again to focus on the events in the
2016 election again, citing the hacking of Hillary Clinton and John Podesta s emails as invasions of privacy and the coverage of
these events served as warnings to the beginning of a totalitarian state. Arendt is referenced again stating that by indulging in this
seizure of private information, individuals and society as a whole are being degenerated into a mob. This devolution, as Arendt calls
it, lead to the rights of individuals being ignored and replaced with the wishes of

What Is The Role Of D-503 In We
Rough copy Written Assignment The evolution of D 503 in We We is a dystopian novel, published by Russian author, Yevgeny
Zamyatin in 1924 in attempt to warn the Russians of the horror that will occur in the near future in consequence to the Civil War.
The story evolves around a totalitarian state during the twenty sixth century, referred as OneState, where conformity and equality
predominate and where all individuals are treated like they are expendable and are referred to solely as numbers. The protagonist of
the novel, D 503, is a mathematician and a engineer that was dotted with the responsibility of observing the overall construction and
completion of the Integral. This artistic piece of literature demonstrates a progression of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

D 503 is a mathematician and also the participating narrator of this novel. D 503 is dominated by logic, he is an appropriate
representation of what the inhabitants of OneState resemble; hardworking, law abiding and controlled by logic. At the beginning of
the novel, he is a law abiding citizen, which does not question, nor does he rebel against the government, as the story progresses it
becomes clear that the society in which he resides in is not what it appears to be. D 503 is patriotic, he holds OneState in a high
regard, in the sense that he believes that this is the best way for humans to live, in a highly controlled and monitored environment. I,
D 503, builder of the INTEGRAL, I am only one of the mathematicians of OneState [4] However, even as a brainwashed human
being, it is quite obvious that he is pleased with the idea of being such a relevant individual in the society, of being a key element to
the overall construction of such an important project that will make a significant impact in future generations to come. As human
beings, we have the innate desire to belong to a group/organization. One of the benefits of living in such a collectivist society is that
we all belong to something much bigger than ourselves and that gives us a sense of satisfaction. He has been writing a type of
journal, which he refers to as Records in order to prove to the other inhabitants on other planets that the totalitarian state is the most
efficient way of living. I believe that these records will serve as proof for future generations of the truth behind the life that is being
led in a totalitarian and conformist state. These records could be interpreted as a form of

Naturalism and My Antonia
Naturalism is an ongoing literary movement that has been apparent since the 1900 s. It depicts how the environment, social
conditions, and even hereditary characteristics influence and shape the way a human character will develop. It is believed that there
is no escaping this realism, and each situation one experiences is what will establish the route of life that they will partake. A short
story called My Antonia , written by Willa Cather is merely categorized with Realism and Naturalism, though it is evident that
several aspects portray supernatural occurrences. The specific characters throughout these excerpts show the reflection of
Naturalism by experiencing struggles of deprivation which resulted in their lives being shaped by ... Show more content on

In Long Day s Journey into Night, there are several characters that display the literary term Naturalism . Mary is a mother figure
(one of the main characters) who was an extremely troubled individual, with conjugal issues, sibling oppositions, and substance
abuse. This specific character was unable to move past all of her troubles, nor was she able to move past the fact of what others
have done to her. For example, Mary being the drug addict has issues with her children who infected her other child with measles,
who had died long ago. None of us can help the things life has done to us (O Neill 1651). This quotation is an ideal example as to
how the author made the characters in such a way where they have realized their life is set in a way that nothing will be able to
change. In other words, the social and physical environment impacts on one s life significantly, also known as Naturalism. In
conclusion, My Antonia by Willa Carther, and Long Day s Journey into Night by Eugene O Neill are both well known literary short
stories that consist of both Naturalism, and supernatural characteristics. My Antonia consists of both when the main character is
constantly haunted by a spirit of a dead man which is inaccurate when it relates to Naturalism. On the other hand, My Antonia also
struggles with loneliness when they are dealing with constant struggles on their farm that they cannot help, as it is what life has
encoded for them to live by. Long Day s Journey

Ella Watson American With Freedom
American with Freedom The African American race has been through a lot of struggles, from being slaves to dealing with racism.
Ella Watson is the woman standing in front of the American flag in Gordon Park s photograph, American Gothic, which symbolizes
freedom, strength and pride. She is perceived as a hard working individual. The photo resembles many aspects of a woman, which
is captured with no words just merely an image. This picture is worth a thousand words and helps convey a message that was
dangerous to talk about back in 1942. When people look at the American Gothic photo painted by Grant Wood they may see a
resemblance to the American Gothic photograph captured by Gordon Parks. Both images have someone holding something in their
hand. In the painting a man is holding a pitchfork, and in the photograph Ella Watson is holding a broom and a ... Show more

Watson is standing tall she looks over worked and tired. For the fact that she is still standing proves that she is an overcomer and
have massive strength to be able to still be standing tall in a country that has all odds against her. She could be a victim of racism,
but able to open a woman s eyes. In the photograph behind her hangs an American flag, to show that she lives in a free county. Her
identity had a chance to be recognized by other people that viewed the photo and she would not have to struggle so hard to be
noticed in American society. While standing directly behind a broom and a mop, it appears that the tools of her trade brings
meaning to the picture or else they would not have been put purposely in front of Ella Watson. She is not ashamed of what she does.

Lemert Progressed The Labelling Theory Of Deviance
Lemert progressed the labelling theory by suggesting that there was a primary and secondary stage of deviance.Primary deviances
are acts which haven t been publicly defined as deviant, due to the fact that they re minor and insignificant incidents of rule
breaking. Whilst secondary deviance are acts which have been publicly listed and labeled as deviant. Lemert argued that it was
society s attempt to control primary deviance that led to secondary deviance. If there was no reaction, there would be no secondary
deviance. (Robert Van Krieken, 2013) Societal reactions.Social control agencies responses towards the deviant, greatly affect
deviance outcomes. Instead of minimising deviance the police can cause deviance to be amplified. (Marshall,

Comparing The Book Heart Over Height And Isaiah Austin s...
Hello welcome to my lecture. Today I will be comparing Nate Robinson s autobiography Heart over height and Isaiah Austin s
Autobiography Dream again . The purpose of this lecture is to compare and analyse the effectiveness to manipulate the audience.
Heart over height and Dream again are both autobiographies written from the perspectives of a current and a former basketball
player.
Heart over height discusses the struggles of being a short athlete in a sport that is dominated by tall people, to expand on this Nate
Robinson is doubted throughout his whole playing career on the basis of being five foot nine. and if he was only a few inches taller
he would have more respect, Isiah Thomas said it best: If Nate Robinson was 6 feet tall, he d be the No. 1 pick in the draft.

of playing in the nba, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

be unable to play only a few days before the draft.
The writing styles presented in both of these books hold similarities like past tense and descriptiveness, But while reading dream
again there was a distinctive positive difference in terms of the descriptiveness within the writing style and use of language devices
like analogies, for example when describing how he felt when he found out he was positive for marfan syndrome, he used an

Reconciliation Action Plan The goals and visions behind my reconciliation action plan was to bring the two sides of Aboriginal and

For my first event I took a friend to a movie night hosted by the Notre Dame Student Association and students from the Aboriginal
People unit. They organised a free viewing a movie by John Pilger called Utopia and a follow up survey. This extraordinary film
gives a deep insight into the First Australians struggles of harsh dispossession and the ongoing deaths and poverty. Pilger puts the
hard word on many members of the Australian government who are responsible for many deaths, explorations, betrayals and
breaches to Aboriginal peoples human rights. This film was very moving and had a great impact on myself who had already studied
a lot of this content but seeing it again in a different way opened my eyes even more to the sadness and grief suffered by Aboriginal
people due to discrimination and lack of justice. As for my friend she was greatly saddened and shocked by what she has seen.
Coming from a very English background she expressed feeling somewhat guilty about what had happened and how disappointed
she was in the Australian government on this matter. The movie inspired a lengthy conversation about the importance of righting
past wrongs for Aboriginal people and spreading awareness to her family and friends. It was also interesting to discover that when

Socioeconomic Class
Socioeconomic Class and Behavior It took me years to understand that humans generally divide themselves according to their
socioeconomic status. I realized that the clothes I wear, the car I drive, and the way I live is all a way to prove to my peers that my
family is in the upper middle class. In the last few years of my life, I realized that some of the people who I call my friends are only
my friends because we are in the same socioeconomic class. They didn t choose to be my friend solely on personality and common
interests. Somehow, my friend group was always viewed as the popular group in school, but what does that mean? I ve always been
perplexed at the fact that socioeconomic class nearly always plays a role in who the popular kids are no matter what school, town,
or grade you are in. This social dynamic caused me to research how socioeconomic class contributes to the creation of friend groups
in adolescents and what social class tends to hold popularity and power in these school years. I began my research with an article
called Elementary School Children s Reasoning About Social Class: A Mixed Methods Study, by Rashmita Mistry et al. This study
was published August of 2015 in Child Development Journal. I started with this article because I was hopeful it could prove how
children understand socioeconomic class from a young age. The study explored 117 children s opinions and reasoning about
socioeconomic classes. It first states that socioeconomic class is

The And Talent Retention Is Happiness And Workplace...
In any work environment, it is important for all levels of management, including executives and owners, to consider the working
environments for those within the organization or company. The unofficial secret to longevity and talent retention is happiness and
workplace satisfaction. There are many ways for organizational leaders to promote happy, healthy working environments; the trick
is finding the right combination that works for their particular group of workers and their particular work environment. Different
methods work for different industries and people so it is a matter of trial and error to find the right fit. There are employment laws
in place to ensure fair work practices occur however, employers should go the extra mile to take care of those who make their
business succeed. According to the Equality Commission for Northern Ireland (2009), responsibility rests with each employer to
provide and promote a good and harmonious working environment (p. 3). Making sure workers are happy can only have positive
effects for the company but it is a multistep process that requires commitment from ever manager involved. Coming up with ways
to increase worker satisfaction is only part of the work; implementing these policies and making it come to life is the challenge and
the greatest responsibility. For example, employers creating a diverse environment can lessen feelings of discrimination. Any
opportunity to represent the workers best interest will always win their

  • 2. Exaggeration of Despair in Sherman Alexie s Reservation... Exaggeration of Despair in Sherman Alexie s Reservation Blues Gloria Bird realizes that for generations Native Americans have had drinking problems, and she also realizes that it is difficult for native writers to accurately represent our communities without exploiting them. (G. Bird) However, Bird criticizes Alexie of embellishing or exaggerating the Native Americans despair. Alexie cannot ignore the alcohol situation when describing Native American culture, but Alexie does not need to make alcoholism a common trait amongst almost every Indian on the reservation and other reservations. Bird s statement concerning Alexie s embellishment of Native American despair due to alcoholism is an accurate interpretation of Reservation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These different civilizations play a very important role in history today. The Maya empire was highly skilled at building and architecture. They also were the only empire in mesoamerica to develop a complete writing system. The Maya were also highly skilled at agriculture and farming. The Maya were by far the most advanced and smart civilization. The Maya empire was very precise and exact when it came to architecture. The hieroglyphic writing was carved in a series of squares on the wall with a sharp tool created by the Mayan people. Scientists and archaeologists today are able to understand some, but not all of Mayan hieroglyphics. This civilization also wrote in books. These books were made of leaves, bark, or leather and glued together with a stucco layer. These types of books were often protected with animal skin or wooden boards. All of these facts conclude that the Mayan writing was much more advanced and intricate than other civilizations. Agriculture or farming played a very important role in the ancient Mayan civilization. The mayans were smart and used the calendar, sun, and the seasons to grow specific crops. Back when framing first started they always grew way too much food. As a result, they ended up trading their crops for items. However, at one point in time farming did become somewhat difficult for the Mayans. As the population grew, farmers found it ever more difficult to grow enough food to feed the growing population. (Linn Don, Maya Empire Agriculture). Farming was not easy in the Maya region, it was difficult because of the climate, and land. The soil was bad, there was few water sources, and the forests were very dense and big. However, the Mayans were smart enough to develop a way of farming. Mayan agriculture was different in every city state because of the unique land. In ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Analysis Of The Poem Lorena By Lucille Clifton Though out this class I learned a lot, I never really read much poetry and did not realize how much meaning poems can have. I am glad that we read so many different types and styles of poems and books. It really helped me get a well rounded understanding of poetry. My favorite unit was the collection unit. The other poems we read taught me a lot about the other topics we touched on as well. Before this class I never really gave poetry much thought, this class opened up my eyes to how important poetry really is. The poem that stood out to me the most from the speaker, and narrative vs lyric unit was Lorena by Lucille Clifton. I really enjoyed this poem and it made it easy for me to understand the concept of speakers. Lucille Clifton wrote the poem, but wrote it about a experience Lorena Bobbit went through. It was hard for me to understand how a poem could have a speaker other then the author but this one made me see how sometimes the author is not necessarily the speaker. I thought about/authority and how it always insisted/on itself (pg. 57, 2 4). These lines contain the phrase I , but when Clifton uses the phrase I , she herself is not the individual, Lorena Bobbit is meant to be the speaker. This poem was a narrative, it told a story about the even Lorena actually lived through. It really stood out to me a lot and helped me understand the concept on a deeper level. • 8. Creating Robots for a Universal Purpos There are over 8.6 million robots in the world that have been created for a universal purpose. That purpose is to improve human life. They do this in many different ways like for example; Robots are used in the Auto Industry to help build automobiles on assembly lines. It takes around twenty four hours on average to build a new automobile in a factory with the help of these robots. Without the machinery that is being used on these assembly lines it could take anywhere from three days to a week to build one automobile. That would also affect the price of said automobile and make it harder to purchase automobiles. Robots help improve many more functions in everyday life. The purpose of this project is to prove that robots improve upon human life and that the robots should be used more often. The first robot was hand built in between four hundred and three hundred fifty B.C. The inventor of the robot was mathematician Archytas. The robot functioned as a steam powered pigeon. The robot actually worked and at one point flew two hundred meters before it ran out of steam and landed on the ground. The robot was not very helpful. But it at the time was a great sign of what was to come in the future. The latest robots to be created are unrecognizable compared to this very first model. Robots are used every day in countries across the world in assembly lines. • 10. The Aesthetic Was Magical Mr Mistoffelees The Aesthetic was Magical Mr. Mistoffelees Part of what makes DreamGirls so intoxicating is its dazzling and meticulous aesthetic. From the opening scene, everything flashes, shimmers and gleams. Elements like spinning mirrors/reflections, glitter and snapping bulbs create this sense of magic that s used to heighten and emphasize parts of the story, entrapping the viewer. Some of the most enchanting numbers are the title song and I m Not Going, of course. Hudson appears last for a classic Introducing... roll, designed for thunderous applause. These are just a few examples. If love is in the details, DreamGirls is cupid. A car motor works by converting petrol, also known as chemical energy, to kinetic energy, therefore assisting with the movement of a car. A chemical reaction, known as combustion, occurs in the car motor. A combustion reaction consists of a hydrocarbon reacting with oxygen (O2) to give the products carbon dioxide (CO2) and water (H2O). A hydrocarbon is a compound consisting simply of Hydrogen (H2) and Carbon (C), methane (CH4) and diesel (C12H23) are examples of a hydrocarbon. The chemical equation for a combustion reaction is as follows: Hydrocarbon + Oxygen  Carbon Dioxide + Water. The combustion reaction of methane (CH4) is: CH4 (g) + 2O2 (g)  CO2 (g) + 2H2O (l), the combustion reaction of ethane is: 2C2H6 (g) + 7O2 (g)  4 CO2 (g) + 6 H2O (l) and the combustion reaction for butane is 2C4H10 (g) +13O2 (g)  8CO2 (g) +10H2O (g). It refers to any policy or practice that differently affects or disadvantages individuals, groups or communities based on race or skin color (Schill Austin 1991). Pollution is disproportionately distributed across the country; it is also distributed unequally within individual states, within counties, and within cities (Schill Austin 1991). Hazardous waste sites, municipal landfills, incinerators, and other hazardous facilities are disproportionately located in poor and minority neighborhoods (White Newsome 2016). Each year, America produces 275 million metric tons of hazardous waste. Environmental regulations only regulate 40 million tons of the waste leaving the rest to be sent to landfills and waste sites (White Newsome 2016). Sexual addiction has been defined by Carnes (1999) as any form of compulsive behavior that is sex related and obstructs a normal life and eventually becomes uncontrollable, although he has also referred to it as a pathological affiliation with an experience that alters the mood (Carnes, 1983). By investigating the psychological motive behind addiction, there seems to be three fundamental classifications: fantasy addictions (sexual activities that break away from mundane reality), satiation addictions (sexual activities that ease discomfort and tension), and arousal addictions (sexual activities that thrill and stimulate).Sexual behavior has the ability to encompass all these three classifications of sexual addiction. The NAACP used the lynching of Jesse Washington to spread awareness of the atrocities committed in the South and the need to stop them. As Bernstein points out, the Jesse Washington lynching, was just the barest beginning of a battle that would last for many years (Bernstein 174). News of the Jesse Washington lynching spread around the United States, and even made its way to a British Newspaper (Bernstein 130). The national and international news coverage began the battle to increase public awareness, and would eventually lead the dying out of lynchings done by huge crowds. Lynching, however, is an enigma because increasing connectivity led to more awareness of the issue, but it also increased lynching. As population shifted and the U.S. became more interconnected, for example, during WWI, a rise in the need for Anglos to control their ever changing environment led to a resurgence of the KKK in the 1920s. Lynching increased as a method of social control and while it was more socially inappropriate, the number of lynchings did not decrease significantly until after WWII. Poetry On Acid By Mark Strands Poetry On Acid In Mark Strands Eating Poetry, the author tells a story of an altered view of a mundane task, taken with a view not normally experienced by restrained society. Right or wrong as the author s actions may be, the poet s description of his interactions is quite engaging. Expressed in three six line stanzas, the writer flows through the highs and lows of an exceptionally intense literary experience. In the first stanza, Strand starts his first line with the usage of intense imagery. Ink runs from the corners of my mouth. His usage of imagery grabs the reader s attention and has us immediately wondering why ink is coming from the corners of his mouth. Ink is such an odd thing for someone to have coming from their mouth, and with that one line Strand has made us long to read more. Ink is also traditionally highly toxic, suggesting the writer may have a wish to die a slow, agonizing death. The second line talks about how happy he is, seemingly in conflict with the first line. This portrays that he enjoys eating ink and is rather happy with himself, as maddeningly illogical as this may be. Line three is an example of a metaphor. We learn that the reason he has ink in his mouth is because he was eating poetry. Reality seems to be at odds with what the writer is experiencing, as there would be no way for the ink to still be liquid. Perhaps the sanity of the writer is in question, and it could be that as he reads the lines of verse he is merely imagining them as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In conclusion, My Antonia by Willa Carther, and Long Day s Journey into Night by Eugene O Neill are both well known literary short stories that consist of both Naturalism, and supernatural characteristics. My Antonia consists of both when the main character is constantly haunted by a spirit of a dead man which is inaccurate when it relates to Naturalism. On the other hand, My Antonia also struggles with loneliness when they are dealing with constant struggles on their farm that they cannot help, as it is what life has encoded for them to live by. • 31. Ella Watson American With Freedom American with Freedom The African American race has been through a lot of struggles, from being slaves to dealing with racism. Ella Watson is the woman standing in front of the American flag in Gordon Park s photograph, American Gothic, which symbolizes freedom, strength and pride. She is perceived as a hard working individual. The photo resembles many aspects of a woman, which is captured with no words just merely an image. This picture is worth a thousand words and helps convey a message that was dangerous to talk about back in 1942. When people look at the American Gothic photo painted by Grant Wood they may see a resemblance to the American Gothic photograph captured by Gordon Parks. Both images have someone holding something in their hand. In the painting a man is holding a pitchfork, and in the photograph Ella Watson is holding a broom and a ... Although Ella Watson is standing tall she looks over worked and tired. For the fact that she is still standing proves that she is an overcomer and have massive strength to be able to still be standing tall in a country that has all odds against her. She could be a victim of racism, but able to open a woman s eyes. In the photograph behind her hangs an American flag, to show that she lives in a free county. Her identity had a chance to be recognized by other people that viewed the photo and she would not have to struggle so hard to be noticed in American society. While standing directly behind a broom and a mop, it appears that the tools of her trade brings meaning to the picture or else they would not have been put purposely in front of Ella Watson. She is not ashamed of what she does. The broom and mop are in front of the woman and not behind which resembles pride in her ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 32. Lemert Progressed The Labelling Theory Of Deviance Lemert progressed the labelling theory by suggesting that there was a primary and secondary stage of deviance.Primary deviances are acts which haven t been publicly defined as deviant, due to the fact that they re minor and insignificant incidents of rule breaking. Whilst secondary deviance are acts which have been publicly listed and labeled as deviant. Lemert argued that it was society s attempt to control primary deviance that led to secondary deviance. If there was no reaction, there would be no secondary deviance. (Robert Van Krieken, 2013) Societal reactions.Social control agencies responses towards the deviant, greatly affect deviance outcomes. Instead of minimising deviance the police can cause deviance to be amplified. (Marshall, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 33. Comparing The Book Heart Over Height And Isaiah Austin s... Hello welcome to my lecture. Today I will be comparing Nate Robinson s autobiography Heart over height and Isaiah Austin s Autobiography Dream again . The purpose of this lecture is to compare and analyse the effectiveness to manipulate the audience. Heart over height and Dream again are both autobiographies written from the perspectives of a current and a former basketball player. Heart over height discusses the struggles of being a short athlete in a sport that is dominated by tall people, to expand on this Nate Robinson is doubted throughout his whole playing career on the basis of being five foot nine. and if he was only a few inches taller he would have more respect, Isiah Thomas said it best: If Nate Robinson was 6 feet tall, he d be the No. 1 pick in the draft. (Robinson). On the other hand in Dream again, Isaiah Austin tells the story of how he is forced to leave behind his life long dream of playing in the nba, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... During his professional NBA career he played 10 seasons with 8 different teams and is currently playing overseas in the Israeli basketball league. Dream again author Isaiah Austin is a former college basketball player who completed his career as a member of the Baylor university basketball team and was considered a first round selection in the 2014 NBA draft but unfortunately found out he would be unable to play only a few days before the draft. The writing styles presented in both of these books hold similarities like past tense and descriptiveness, But while reading dream again there was a distinctive positive difference in terms of the descriptiveness within the writing style and use of language devices like analogies, for example when describing how he felt when he found out he was positive for marfan syndrome, he used an analogy of a blindsided tackle on a football field, a unbelievable blow that he didn t see ... • 35. Reconciliation Action Plan Reconciliation Action Plan The goals and visions behind my reconciliation action plan was to bring the two sides of Aboriginal and non Aboriginal Australians together in equality and harmony. Since the colonisation of Australia there has been a vast divide between the two sides that has caused many serious outcomes for Aboriginal people. My way of contributing to this is to create a better understanding, restore trust and eradicate racism as a positive way to help close the gap between Aboriginal and non Aboriginal Australia s. The reason for this report was to explain the steps that were taken to create and implement this action plan and the outcomes. My three actions were established to help carry out my vision of bringing together ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For my first event I took a friend to a movie night hosted by the Notre Dame Student Association and students from the Aboriginal People unit. They organised a free viewing a movie by John Pilger called Utopia and a follow up survey. This extraordinary film gives a deep insight into the First Australians struggles of harsh dispossession and the ongoing deaths and poverty. Pilger puts the hard word on many members of the Australian government who are responsible for many deaths, explorations, betrayals and breaches to Aboriginal peoples human rights. This film was very moving and had a great impact on myself who had already studied a lot of this content but seeing it again in a different way opened my eyes even more to the sadness and grief suffered by Aboriginal people due to discrimination and lack of justice. As for my friend she was greatly saddened and shocked by what she has seen. Coming from a very English background she expressed feeling somewhat guilty about what had happened and how disappointed she was in the Australian government on this matter. The movie inspired a lengthy conversation about the importance of righting past wrongs for Aboriginal people and spreading awareness to her family and friends. It was also interesting to discover that when moving to Australian from England in 2010 that she had noticed a great deal of racism towards ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 36. Socioeconomic Class Socioeconomic Class and Behavior It took me years to understand that humans generally divide themselves according to their socioeconomic status. I realized that the clothes I wear, the car I drive, and the way I live is all a way to prove to my peers that my family is in the upper middle class. In the last few years of my life, I realized that some of the people who I call my friends are only my friends because we are in the same socioeconomic class. They didn t choose to be my friend solely on personality and common interests. Somehow, my friend group was always viewed as the popular group in school, but what does that mean? I ve always been perplexed at the fact that socioeconomic class nearly always plays a role in who the popular kids are no matter what school, town, or grade you are in. This social dynamic caused me to research how socioeconomic class contributes to the creation of friend groups in adolescents and what social class tends to hold popularity and power in these school years. I began my research with an article called Elementary School Children s Reasoning About Social Class: A Mixed Methods Study, by Rashmita Mistry et al. This study was published August of 2015 in Child Development Journal. I started with this article because I was hopeful it could prove how children understand socioeconomic class from a young age. The study explored 117 children s opinions and reasoning about socioeconomic classes. It first states that socioeconomic class is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 37. The And Talent Retention Is Happiness And Workplace... In any work environment, it is important for all levels of management, including executives and owners, to consider the working environments for those within the organization or company. The unofficial secret to longevity and talent retention is happiness and workplace satisfaction. There are many ways for organizational leaders to promote happy, healthy working environments; the trick is finding the right combination that works for their particular group of workers and their particular work environment. Different methods work for different industries and people so it is a matter of trial and error to find the right fit. There are employment laws in place to ensure fair work practices occur however, employers should go the extra mile to take care of those who make their business succeed. According to the Equality Commission for Northern Ireland (2009), responsibility rests with each employer to provide and promote a good and harmonious working environment (p. 3). Making sure workers are happy can only have positive effects for the company but it is a multistep process that requires commitment from ever manager involved. Coming up with ways to increase worker satisfaction is only part of the work; implementing these policies and making it come to life is the challenge and the greatest responsibility. For example, employers creating a diverse environment can lessen feelings of discrimination. Any opportunity to represent the workers best interest will always win their ...
