Essay on Carson McCullers
Carson McCullers
Walter Allen said of Carson McCullers; ``Faulkner apart, the most remarkable novelist the South has
produced seems to me Carson McCullers (Allen 208). Her work is marked with the feeling of
loneliness coming from her lonely childhood (spiritual isolation is the basis of most of her themes)
and the music she always wanted to study. She wrote novels, short stories and dramas. In all she
received the recognition of both the public, her fellows writers, and critics.
Carson McCullers is a talented Southern American writer who touched others with her ability to
describe human complexity with a touch of poesy.

She is ``able to persuade us that contemporary reality and legendary story are one (Graver 209). The
worlds she created are imaginary but in their ``depth and variety can look like the reality (Allen 208).
A lot of critics speak about the poetic aspect of her work and think that ``With her, the Southern
tradition of the Gothic novel is refined into a poetic sensibility which has not escaped either imitation
or misuse (Hassan 506). Even if her novels are all in prose and ``not in any obvious sense poetic
(Allen 208), ``from its first appearance, critics have recognized the Lyricism of the McCullers
narrative style, which can render even sordid subject matter in poetic terms (Griffith 209). This come
from her first vocation which was music. One can find this constant presence of music in her novels:
ballad and Negro song. This is a part of the spirit of the deep South she described in her work.
As she was born in Georgia and most of her novels take place in the South, she is always connected
with this region. Some people called her work gothic because of her characters who all have a
physical or psychological deficiency. Gothic is a style of writing that grew in the south with authors as
William Faulkner, Earnest Hemingway, and F. Scott Fitzgerald. She is very often associated with all
these well known writers. ``With a touch reminiscent of Faulkner but peculiarly her own style (Feld
2373).

Color White In The Great Gatsby Essay
WHITE: The color white, more often than not, is considered to be a color meaning goodness, purity,
and innocence. This definition holds true in the beginning portion of The Great Gatsby, however, as
we approach the end, it changes drastically. Our first confrontation with the color white is when Nick
first encounters Daisy, he realizes that everything she possesses is white; she lives, high in a white
palace, (Fitzgerald.128) with, the windows...gleaming white, (Fitzgerald.10) she even wore a white
dress. At this point in the novel, the color white is used when defining honesty and sincerity, reason
being that Daisy is first portrayed as an innocent person who is faithful to her husband, well that is,
until she learns of Gatsby. After this occurrence, we see the color white stray away from its ... Show

When Gatsby, stretched out his arms toward the dark water in a curious way, (Fitzgerald.24) Nick,
distinguished nothing except a single green light, minute and far away, that might have been the end of
a dock. (Fitzgerald.24) This green light, however, wasn t at the end of just any dock, it was at the edge
of Daisy Buchanan s, the person who Gatsby hoped to be with in the future. This symbolizes the great
distance he will have to go in order to obtain what he desires, and the water in between represents the
one obstacle he will have to overcome, her husband Tom. Nevertheless, after he met with Daisy, he
realized that, the colossal significance of the light had now vanished forever, (Fitzgerald.100) meaning
that since he now had Daisy in her arms, the green light no longer seemed as far away as it used to
because he didn t have to yearn for her love anymore. While it still had a slight significance, it wasn t
as relevant as before, due to the fact that Gatsby had already acquired what he was longing

In 1882, Congress made considerably stronger move in the Chinese Exclusion Act, the country s first
supremacist, prohibitive movement law. The Act suspended all movement of Chinese workers for ten
years and precluded any court to concede Chinese individuals for citizenship. What brought the
Chinese to America in any case? Likewise with numerous migrant gatherings, it was a combo of push
and draw components. Numerous meant to escape destitution and oppression in China and would have

There were numerous offices set up to accept the migrants as soon they arrived in America. Exams
were made that were deliberately made to be difficult to pass keeping in mind the end goal to
guarantee that there might be no migrants. Foreigners were confined there so as to experience the
screenings that were needed of them. The offices had everything required for the checks. There were
clinics for any tainted foreigners. There were numerous weigh focuses in the U.s, however one of the
celebrated offices in the east was Ellis Island. Its entryways were open for outsiders in 1892 and didn t

Chapter 10 Of Soul Feast
After reading chapter 10 of Soul Feast, I thought to myself what could be my rule of life? Where do I
need support in my daily walk with Christ? What is it in my life that needs work and could be
spiritually damaging, if not dealt with? Where do I need to be held accountable? After asking myself
these series of questions, it is almost as if God spoke aloud to me. You are very Judge mental it is ugly
and not of God. I said well there it is. The practice that works well for me, is the practicing Silence. I
love this, I find that God can deal with me better in silence. I can hear what God is saying and what
God wants me to do. In my life s journey, I find that practicing silence is what got me where God
wants me to be. In doing this God pours directly in to me, his divine plan. There was a time when I
needed to know what God wants me to do. How do you want me to serve you, because that is all that I
want to do. Spiritual formation teaches you to get closer to God. Learning theses disciplines taught me
to find a way to get closer to him, so that I can operate in my salvation better. Meaning if you know
what Gods plan is for you because your close to him, you can be more obedient to his principle and
precepts. If you study his word and meditate on it daily, you can walk up right before God. Now
understand this doesn t mean you won t fall it means you may fall less. Practicing silence is something
that I will do for the rest of my life. This is a good spiritual practice to

Vanishing Point Rab
The poem s title is Vanishing Point by Lawrence Raab, which generally speaks of life s journey and
the aspirations each one of us has for him or herself. The title of the poem describes the perspective of
life. At the vanishing point, distant objects seem to be little and parallel lines appear to converge. This
is the point of confusion whereby a person s beliefs about the purpose of life appear void. At this
point, a person is no longer sure whether purpose and destiny matter.
The speaker is analyzing the walk of life, the hopes and dreams that each one has concerning their
own life and their relationship to elapsing time. A person finds him or herself on a journey. The irony
of this journey is that it was destined by someone else and not ... Show more content on

It is not possible to tell whether the life of a person will be successful or not. For this reason, people
live in anxiety and the fear of the unknown. The speaker says that this walk is personal and everything
else does not matter. Besides, he describes that the direction where the road is leading has hardships.
He uses the poetry style of symbolism to metaphorize the concept of destiny. Did you really think you
were just out for an aimless stroll? by this question, the speaker implies that the direction of the
journey is of person s own making. The person decides which direction he or he wants to go.
However, in the end, the choice pf direction will matter.
The speaker discourages the readers against placing too much focus on the problem. In his poem, he
stipulates that a long focus on the horizon s mountains makes them seem too impossible to overcome.
And those mountains on the horizon: the longer you look, the more forbidding they become, bleak and
self important

A Successful Marketing Man With A Keen Eye On Globalization
Mission Statement
To be a successful marketing man with a keen eye on globalization, holding sensitive position in the
organization steering it to greater heights.
Objectives
Utilizing the SMART objectives, this is how the mission statement is to be attained with firm resolve,
to wit:
Specific
the mission is sufficiently specific as it details what needs to be attained in the future after graduating
from college in the sphere of marketing, confluent with global trends and at the helmsman s role of the
voyage
Measurable
to become a successful marketing man can definitely be calibrated and measured thru the holding of
that critical position, directing implementation of plans and keeping in step with globalization thru
products of global standards. Globalization does not necessarily mean that you trade globally or do
export and import. It could also mean that the steps and processes of the firm I am steering conform to
global standards so that products and services are of the highest quality. Pushing the company to
greater heights is likewise something that can be measured.
Attainable
the aforecited plans and programs of my budding career look to me achievable as it could be proven
by numbers. I could be head of an agency but if that tenure may be short lived or if the trend of the
company on a downtrend that is not a measure of success. Because soon enough, this lofty position
could be wiped out with the passage of time and events if the firm continues to

Music Is The Most Popular Music
According to Oxford s dictionary, music is the vocal or instrumental sounds (or both) combined in
such a way as to produce beauty of form harmony, and expression of emotion. Music has been around
for a very long time. Music has been an influenced since the beginning of time from the beats and
rhythm to just make a nice flow of a song. Music history is sometimes a historical viewpoint in
society. Besides, music is breaking down into five main categories: Jazz, Classical, Rhythm and Blues,
Pop, Rap, and Country. But, Rap music is the most popular music in today s society. In addition, being
that Rap music is popular, Rap music is also the most corrupted music now a day. So, how does music
influences positive and negative effects on people and society? Although, music has been around for
several years, there are so many differences and similarities in music; for instance, all music can be
related by old music that was made, or there is new music that is originated. The differences in music
is the many genres and its effects on people and the society. The cost of albums from the 1960 s to
today s music are much higher. Another difference in music is back in the 1960 s talent was a part of
music, but in today s music all you need is auto tunes. The similarities are that all music is alike in
some way. Also, that music may sound the same. For instance, Marvin Gaye s song Got to Give It Up
sounds similar to Robin Thicke s Blurred Lines , because I believe both songs give

My Cultural Aspects Of My Culture In Cape Verdean
A culture is a set of characteristics of a particular group of people. It emcopasses language, social
aspect, such as relegion, cuisine, social habits,, music, and arts. I considered my culture to be Cape
Verdean. I was born and raised in Cape Verde until I was fourteen. My country was colonized by the
Portuguese, so there are a lot common culture aspects between Cape Verde and Portugal . One of the
results of colonization was implementation of catholicism as a primary religion in my country. It was
not until recent years that other forms of religious started to emerge in Cape Verde. However, for some
people who strong practice catholicism there is a strong push back against those who aren t from the
same religion. This has raised a lot religion conflict not only with foreign people who come to Cape
verde from different countries in Africa, but it has also originated conflicts amongst Cape Verdeans
who have a different belief.
Into what region or geographical section or world were you born? What messages have you received
about people from this region or geographical area?
Cape Verde is located right in center of the Atlantic Ocean, 500 km off the Western Coast of Africa. In
recent years, more people have started to questioning the location of Cape Verde because unlike other
countries in Africa, Cape Verde is located outside of the African continent. I identify myself to be
African because I see that there is a lot cultural similarities between my country

Rhetorical Analysis Of Ronald Reagan s Challenger Disaster...
On January 28th, 1986, the Challenger shuttle exploded shortly after liftoff killing all seven of the
crew members. Almost everyone in America, including hundreds of thousands of schoolchildren were
watching. This disaster meant that Ronald Reagan would have to address the issue. He answered this
call with the Challenger Disaster Address. In this speech, he not only comforted the families of the
astronauts, but also the rest of the nation by rebuilding faith in the space program. Reagan exibited
empathy in his tone, while keeping a strong demeanor. He demonstrated empathy in many ways. The
first is when he says Nancy and I are pained to the core. He not only shows that he is hurt by this
statement, but also his wife, First Lady Nancy. From there, he goes on to say We share this pain with
all of the people of our country. Reagan expands his subject to all of America as he also shows that
even though he is the president, he still feels pain. He then talks about the significance of the
Challenger Disaster and how, in the past 19 years, Americans never witnessed anything like this
happen to an American shuttle after it had been launched. He does, however, point out that the

Book Review: The Second Shift
It is believed that women have to work more than men. However, focuses upon studying the history of
the society, they are never given an acknowledgment for this matter. With the passage of time, women
start getting the equal importance in the society and they receive the right of engaging in the
professional activities (Arlie Russell Anne, 1989). Still, in spite of having professional commitments,
they do not get freedom from the childcare and other household activates, which doubles up their
burden. On the other hand, men enjoy freedom from the household undertakings with excuses of their
professional obligations.
The Second Shift, by Arlie Hochschild, is a book, which sheds light on the women men work disparity
in the family domain. Basically, in this book, it encompasses different results of the surveys,
conducted by the author on the theme of the marital responsibility. It indeed portrays the prevailing
inequality between men and women in the human society when it comes to share the domestic
obligations. It also extracts the types of couples and their preference on this matter from this survey
(Arlie Russell Anne, 1989). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Social Stress And Its Impact On The Classroom
Overview of Changes in this Resubmission I was delighted to receive encouragement to resubmit this
proposal and am extremely grateful to the five reviewers for their insightful comments. I was gratified
to read Reviewer 5 s comment that the proposed activities are creative, original and potentially
transformative, and Reviewer 1 s comments that this research may lead to theoretical advances in the
understanding of stigma more broadly and that I am an expert in this field and well suited to carry out
the proposed research. Although space limitations preclude me from detailing how I addressed every
individual comment, here I will summarize the major changes to guide the Panel s review. I have kept
the longitudinal study, which the entire Panel supported. In response to the Panel s concerns about the
experimental and speed dating studies, I have dropped Studies 1 3 and replaced them with an
experimental study that I have now successfully piloted with 50 participants. This new study addresses
Panel concerns about the conceptualization of weight stigma and concerns that the manipulated
construct might have been general social stress or rejection rather than weight stigma specifically. I
have added a follow up point in the experience sampling study to assess weight so as to test the entire
model. I have taken to heart the criticism that perceived overweight status is an imperfect selection
variable; all studies now use samples with BMI 25 ( overweight ) and above. Carefully

Lady Macbeth s Vaulting Ambition
In the beginning of the tragic play Macbeth by William Shakespeare one sees that Macbeth and Lady
Macbeth are an ideal couple, but both suffer from a serious flaw ambition that destroys their lives.
Macbeth and Lady Macbeth are an ideal couple in the beginning of the play. King Duncan favours
them, they have good friends and they have a happy marriage. Macbeth considers Lady Macbeth his

thoughts and plans with her. But both have vaulting ambition which destroys their lives.
Firstly, the evil queen , the antagonist of Macbeth. Her vaulting ambitions drives her to call upon the

Myrtle Wilson Thesis
Is Myrtle Wilson the antithesis of Daisy Buchanan? Fitzgerald presents Myrtle and Daisy in similar
but different ways. For example, Fitzgerald presents them though they re appearance, behaviour, how
they perceive themselves and how others perceive them. Fitzgerald presents Myrtle s appearance
through light imagery suggesting she is a thickish figure of a woman blocking out the light the lexes
thickish figure suggest that Myrtle gives off a sensual ambience, this also suggests that Myrtle is quite

My Personal Experience In College Education
Spring 2017 was the worst semesters for me in comparison to my entire college education. I returned
back to college after leaving for six years. I started back spring 2016 at Cuny Hostos . I took 5 classes

spring, I passed my summer class and I maintained a 3.94 for the fall . I transferred from there due to

stress she was dealing with that her body shut down on her. Having to be her main source of support

Gender and Sexual Identity
The different themes in the readings and video are understanding, and supporting children s gender
and sexual identity. Understanding consists of being knowledgeable about the LGBT community and
empathic to the individual s journey. There are many different terms to be familiar with and one
should be knowledgeable about the different terms. It is also important to be empathic and supportive
to the individual s journey, and understand that no journey is alike. Horning the individual name and
using preferred pronouns is also of importance and implies that you are accepting to the individual and

Santiago had waited so patiently that it is believed by myself that god had decided to give him a gift of

always learned something new and he would not be so lonely because his marine animals would

Essay on The Life of Walt Disney
It all started in 1923 when a young man started off with one idea that lead to bigger and better ideas as
time went on. Walt Disney imagined what people thought to be the impossible and created a Disney
empire that was made up of cartoons, movies, amusement parks, and much more entertainment. To
think if Walt Disney never shared his visions with the world, there would be no animation, amusement
parks, Mickey Mouse, or any classic Disney movies like Snow White, Mary Poppins, or Beauty and
the Beast. Also, children wouldn t have gotten to experience walking through Cinderella s Castle into
Magic Kingdom, a child s oasis. Although Walt Disney is no longer with us, the visions he had are
now reality and the name Disney has made an impact on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
What also made Mickey Mouse very popular was that Walt Disney himself provided the voice of
Mickey until 1947. On February 23rd, 1935 the very first in color Mickey Mouse cartoon was
released. Then later in 1937, Disney Brothers Studios took a big step by creating Snow White and the
Seven Dwarfs. Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs was the very first animated feature film with sound
and color. Disney Brothers Studio made 8 million dollars off of the release of Snow White and the
Seven Dwarfs. After completing this movie entirely, Disney Brothers Studio packed up their things on
December 26th, 1939 and moved to Burbank, California from Hyperion Studio in Los Angeles. Once
settled into Burbank, California, Disney Brothers Studio started to begin a brand new project that
would put them over the top. After working diligently for almost a year finally, Disneyland Park in
Anaheim, California, opened on July 17th, 1955. This theme park took up over 160 acres of land and
provided rides, games, and pure entertainment. Weeks before the opening for the park, six thousand
invitations were mailed out for the big day. When the big day finally came, about 28,000 ticket holders
came running to the entrance to get in. When entering into the main entrance, a big opening led
straight through Sleeping Beauty s Castle. Visitors came from all over the world to experience all the
different lands to Disneyland Park. Disneyland Park was made up of four separate lands which are

The Perceptions Of Symbolism In William Shakespeare s The...
This poem can be interpreted from many perspectives. In the beginning, the reader might conclude it
is all a dream, however you learn the bird is always present and does not leave. Most of the poem is
told in the past tense, but we read the bird is still around in the present tense, days or months later. A
dream would not last this long. It is also possible it is indeed a hallucination, and the speaker s
madness is so deep the illusion is permanent. Maybe he actually saw a raven one night. However, even
if it was a real bird, it would not sit in one place for such a long period of time, and coincidentally talk.
The speaker tells of his attempts to ease his sorrow by reading at candlelight. We sense he is weak
from his struggle of enduring a great loss. The speaker s surroundings are also described as bleak and
dismal. The thought of a chamber at midnight has a dark and mysterious connotation. Ironically, the
thought of a small room is a safe haven for the speaker, in comparison to the spooky world outside:
Deep into that darkness peering, long I stood there wondering, fearing (25). There are several symbols
present in The Raven. One thought is the raven represents the soul of Lenore coming back to haunt
him. The raven is not of this world, perhaps a demon or spiritual creature, a messenger from the dead.
The speaker asks the raven to bring Lenore back, Tell this sould with sorrow laden if, within the
distant Aidenn,/ It shall class a saited maiden whom the angels name Lenore (93 94). There is also a
sense the speaker is ridden by guilt for something. Perhaps he wronged Lenore and her soul comes
back to torment him for it. Maybe he even killed her and Lenore is punishing him with his own
immortality. She wants him to know the pain of being lonely and insane forever in her retribution. The
bird watches him suffer, but does nothing but speak in order to increase the suffering. The raven
inserts himself into the story, only so far, just enough to move the story along, to essentially
manipulate it. The horror keeps the speaker from leaving his study. The repetitive knocking goes one
and on like a sign of endless guilt, so much so, it makes him incoherent. Lenore wants him to suffer
endlessly and she

Examples Of Uncivilized In Things Fall Apart
Civilized or Uncivilized? More Than Just an Answer...
Pre colonial Africa, or the Dark Continent , is mostly viewed negatively throughout the world, but
people don t notice how rich their cultures and traditions are. Chinua Achebe, an African writer,
proves this misconception wrong in his first novel by proving examples of Ibo cultures and society.
Altogether, in the novel Things Fall Apart, Chinua Achebe incorporates Ibo s judicial system,
ceremonial practices, and diplomacy with other clans to successfully combat the stereotype of pre
colonial Africa as uncivilized .
One way Achebe proves this misconception wrong was by using Ibo s advanced judicial system. For
example, villagers their complaints to each of the nine egwugwu [who] represented

Hot, Flat, and Crowded: Why We Need a Green Revolution And How It Can Renew America
Author: Thomas L. Friedman
Thesis Statement:
Hot, Flat, amp; Crowded by Thomas L. Friedman was published by FSC Mixed Sources in the year
2008. This book is a diagnosis of Friedman s three major challenges facing the world and the United
States. Also he includes perceptions for how the United States can cure these problems. Friedman
especially specializes on focusing on the greatest challenge of which is global warming. He then also
argues that the United States can solve its own problems and help the entire planet, by becoming a
world leader in green technology. Global warming, global flattening, and global crowding are the

So basically when your economy is globalized and world population increases (flat plus crowded),
there will be a global demand for food, energy, and natural resources which of course grew at a quick
pace.
Philip K. Werleger Jr., who is a well known energy economists who also wrote in the International
Economy (September 22, 2007) stated that, History may well repeat from 2001 to 2020 as China,
India, and other countries move from developing to developed nations. Consumption can be expected
to increase at a pace close to the rate of the economic growth in these nations, just as it did in Europe,
Japan, and the United States following the Second World War And he also stated that, While these
countries may, through efficiency measures be able to produce more GDP growth with less energy, the
fact is that they are now involved in building massive amounts of new infrastructure and that
infrastructure is energy intensive.
Many more people can suddenly or are or will be living the middle class lifestyle and not to mention
that they are demand driven. These are the forces that are fueling the Energy Climate Era. Larry
Goldstein who is an oil export at the Energy Policy Research Foundation mentions the pivotal year
that told us we were in a new era in terms of global energy supply and demand was 2004. There were
two major incidents that happened that year and they were an increased demand for energy thanks to

David Schleis Tax Rates
Understanding the Many Different Tax Rates Each Year
David Schleis, and his fellow Tax Preparers at DS Financial Advisors, are waiting to explain the
current and past tax rates to you. These rates, which are applicable to every tax payer, can be
confusing for some. Seeking the help of a qualified accountant and finding a tax professional who is
knowledgeable is the key to prompt and efficient income tax return filing.
What are Tax Rates?
The federal government and the Internal Revenue Service dictates that each dollar of certain income
you earn is subject to taxation. The percentage taxed on that dollar is determined by your individual
tax rate. Tax rates are different for everyone, and will change yearly, depending upon your total annual
income and filing status. For tax payers who are unsure of their unique tax liability, it is important to
find a tax professional for tax rates.
Tax Brackets Explained
There is much confusion between the terms tax rate and tax bracket. Many believe that they are
interchangeable, though they are not. Your tax bracket is determined based upon a formulaic
spreadsheet that uses your filing status and total annual income. When this information is added to the
tax bracket system, the resulting number is the tax rate that some or all of your income will be taxed
at. Using the tax bracket guidelines, you can figure out your own individual tax rate. Keep in mind
that the tax rates change each year. If you are filing

THE MORAL PRINCIPLES OF PREMARTIAL SEX
Abstract
Over many years, the views of premarital sex have been becoming increasingly more tolerant. The
whole reasoning behind why sex was created is lost in the minds of society and used for pleasure and
own physical satisfaction. There are negative consequences for these actions leading to guilt,
depression, and numbness to intimate relationships. Having strong parental influence can also strongly
affect the outcomes of adolescence and causal sex. Additionally, marriage can be ... Show more

Hence, even if there may be a motivation for casual sex because of developing one s script or fulfilling
a man s physical satisfaction and a women s intimacy in a relationship, there are the same emotional
effects and negative outcomes that result from taking part in premarital sex. An action that was
morally right would not have
THE MORAL PRINCIPLES OF PREMARTIAL SEX negative emotional and psychological
consequences, which would conclude casual sex was not intended to be done before marriage. There
is also another consequence for participating in casual sex such as disturbance in later marriage.
Sexual scripts can be written prior to marriage, providing knowledge about their own abilities, leading
to a stable marriage because they may be able to make more informed choices concerning marriage. It
is also very likely for someone to misunderstand physical intimacy with emotional potential, leading
to disruption in marriage and make worse marital choices (Kahn, London, 1991).
How is Marriage Effected? In today s society, adolescents have a positive opinion about cohabitation
before marriage. The view of marriage as an institution has faded and cohabitation has taken a new
part of this culture (Martin, Specter, Martin, amp; Martin, 2003). It has often been questioned whether
or not premarital sexual activity causes marriages to be disrupted. According to Teachman, Premarital
sex and cohabitation has not

Kanye West Ambitions

really specifically talented at anything except for the ability to learn. That s what I do. That s what I m
here for. Kanye West. Kanye West was able to extract the indescribable words of my thoughts and
relate to me about what I want to do in my life. Growing up I had a wide variety of interests in
learning about art, business, and fashion. Soon thereafter, trying to decide what college I wanted to

Before, I use to study everything all at once the night before a test, and the test scores would show that
I was cramming information. Then I created a studying method by breaking the information down into
smaller section to study over a period of time so it would be easier to remember. During free time, I
would read books and newspapers to expand my knowledge, and learn about what s going on around
the world. I grew away from watching cartoon shows and was entertained by inspirational TV shows
as an alternative. For instance, I watched Shark Tank, the Apprentice, and Project Runway. During
Season 12 of Project Runway, I remember Heidi Klum introducing Nina Garcia with the title Creative
Director . I never heard of the title Creative Director before, and I immediately did research to unfold
what mysterious role this position held.
Within that moment, I was finally out of the darkness and felt curiosity and motivation accumulate in
my mind knowing a positive change was occurring for my future. Creative Directors are the vital role
of an Advertising or Marketing firm, and they lead and give creative guidance to the artists,
photographers, and graphic designers. Being a Creative Director combines all of my interests into one
career, and choosing a major became less stressful. Now I could study in Marketing, Advertising, or
Fashion Design because all of these majors would lead me into becoming a Creative

Flag Of Somali Flag
Flag of Somalia
Flag of Somalia. The flag of Somalia officially adopted on October 12 1954 the blue field is the same
shade used by united nation light blue with a large white five pointed star in the center; the blue field
was originally influenced by the flag. the five points of the star represent the five regions in the horn
of Africa that are inhabited by Somali people: the former British Somaliland and Italian Somaliland
(which together make up Somalia), Djibouti, Ogaden (Ethiopia), and the North East Province (Kenya)
The blue base originates from the flag of the United Nations and it represents the blue sky over

represents African freedom. The star s individual points represent the five historical regions inhabited
by the Somali people: Italian Somaliland (Somalia), British Somaliland (Somalia), French Somaliland

Its interesting this flag because I got more idea which is the blue background is modeled after the flag

Prospero In The Tempest
Prospero in William Shakespeare s play The Tempest starts out by manipulating his own daughter,
shutting down and controlling Ariel, and by kidnapping an innocent boy to get revenge for being
wronged . Throughout the play he is aggressive and verbally explosive to others, only shares half
truths or will change stories to fit his needs, and while he doesn t always tell the truth he does have
some validation to his stories. Over all, his character morality is rather grey, but through the eyes and
encounters with Miranda, Ariel, Alonso, Ferdinand, Antonio, and Caliban, he has a fairly minimal
character character growth, leaving Prospero as a controlling, manipulative, and aggressive character.
Miranda, his daughter, is able to reflect both his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

advancement! Do you understand me? (Act 2, scene 1, lines 252 260). This reveals that Antonio is
awful and willing to kill, showing that Prospero has some truth to his story that he told Miranda, and
that he is also partly a victim of his brother. Caliban is fearful of Prospero throughout the play, and
talks about being abused by him. This shows that Prospero not only bullies to get what he wants, but
that he views others as beneath him as his personal toys. Caliban states in the dirty pond The dropsy
drown this fool! What do you mean To dote thus on such luggage? Let s alone, And do the murder
first. If he awakes, From toe to crown he ll fill our skins with pinches Make us strange stuff (Act 4,
scene 1, lines 229 233). Prospero later justifies his abuse towards Caliban to Ariel by saying A devil, a

Xenotransplantation Essay
Moral, Environmental and Cultural Issues
From the beginning, xenotransplantations have been an ethically controversial procedure and for many
diverse reasons. Diverse groups are fervently opposed to it: animal rights groups, for instance, are
undoubtedly against butchering animals to collect their organs for some human s sake. Although, most
major religions aren t resistant to the use of genetically modified xenografts to save human lives, the
proscription of pig consumption poses some dilemmas for the Jewish and Islamic communities. When
divine providence is not being used to justify the genetic engineering of animals, then some
evolutionary ethic of the strongest calls the tune or might is right seems to obtain (Sherlock Morrey,
2002, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Patients, in that case, must be entirely aware of what the procedure implies, without any outside
influence affecting their choice, and must, themselves, understand the risks and benefits of this type of
transplantation.
Also, some have suggested that family and close friends of the patient should also give consent
because of the magnitude of repercussions xenografts imply; the great possibility of diseases and
viruses crossing over to humans make the patients closest contacts at risk as well. Therefore, it is
important that those contacts be monitored to assure that a xenozoonosis is not happening. This
proposal arise another ethical question: the consent of the patient can turn out to be narrowed down if
the family and friends don t agree with putting themselves at risk and the confidentiality principles
would also be broken.
Evidently, the public s safety remains a significant element to be measured. Procedures must be in
place to protect the public from any risk due to possible outbreaks. Ergo society must understand the
risks and benefits of xenograft and consent to its application. This societal response is a very
important ethical issue according to the Ethics Committee of the International Xenotransplantation
Association and it will be hard to overcome until researches proves the achievement of a low risk
graft, resulting from genetically modified

Judith Slaying Holofernes
Judith Slaying Holofernes
Artemisia Gentileschi was not the first to paint Judith Slaying Holofernes. Her father had painted
Judith. Michelangelo, Botticelli and Caravaggio had painted Judith. Donatello had sculpted Judith.
But she was the first to interpret the story of Judith, in a time when women had few rights, as an
allegory for female dominance. In comparison with other contemporary versions, the composition,
dramatic style, and emotions of the characters present a violently feminist view that may have
stemmed from Gentileschi s own experiences. Judith Slaying Holofernes1, by Artemisia Gentileschi,
is an oil painting and was completed in 1620. It retells the Old Testament story of Judith, a Jewish
widow of noble rank. An ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Delilah was a beautiful Philistine who tricked Samson to achieve his ruin. Judith and Delilah both
used their beauty and intelligence against men, and were therefore both determined to be deceitful and
immoral. Judith came to be known as la belle dame sans merci, the beautiful lady without mercy.
In Cellini s Perseus4, and Giambologna s The Rape of the Sabine Women5, violence towards women
was moralized and perceived as normal. As the antithesis of this attitude, the character and deeds of
Judith were viewed as subversive and offensive. Francesco di Lorenzo, herald of the Signoria, asked
to have Donatello s Judith6 removed from the front of the Palazzo Vecchio in 1504 on the grounds
that Judith is an omen of evil it is not proper that the woman should kill the male.
Artists striving for any appearance of propriety created extremely feminine, quiet and bland Judiths,
perhaps to avoid the controversy Gentileschi wholeheartedly invited. Veronese s Judith7 (1570) is a
perfect example of this. Her hair is immaculately braided and her skin a porcelain white rivaling the
delicate pearls around her neck. She gazes into the distance as she daintily places the head of
Holofernes in the bag her servant holds out for her. Simply put, Judith appears as dead as the head she
holds. She is devoid of emotion, intelligence and humanity. Again, she is nothing but an allegory, a
warning for proud and arrogant men.
Carlo Saraceni s Judith8 (1615) has a smiling Judith holding

  • 2. Essay on Carson McCullers Carson McCullers Walter Allen said of Carson McCullers; ``Faulkner apart, the most remarkable novelist the South has produced seems to me Carson McCullers (Allen 208). Her work is marked with the feeling of loneliness coming from her lonely childhood (spiritual isolation is the basis of most of her themes) and the music she always wanted to study. She wrote novels, short stories and dramas. In all she received the recognition of both the public, her fellows writers, and critics. Carson McCullers is a talented Southern American writer who touched others with her ability to describe human complexity with a touch of poesy. She is ``able to persuade us that contemporary reality and legendary story are one (Graver 209). The worlds she created are imaginary but in their ``depth and variety can look like the reality (Allen 208). A lot of critics speak about the poetic aspect of her work and think that ``With her, the Southern tradition of the Gothic novel is refined into a poetic sensibility which has not escaped either imitation or misuse (Hassan 506). Even if her novels are all in prose and ``not in any obvious sense poetic (Allen 208), ``from its first appearance, critics have recognized the Lyricism of the McCullers narrative style, which can render even sordid subject matter in poetic terms (Griffith 209). This come from her first vocation which was music. One can find this constant presence of music in her novels: ballad and Negro song. This is a part of the spirit of the deep South she described in her work. As she was born in Georgia and most of her novels take place in the South, she is always connected with this region. Some people called her work gothic because of her characters who all have a physical or psychological deficiency. Gothic is a style of writing that grew in the south with authors as William Faulkner, Earnest Hemingway, and F. Scott Fitzgerald. She is very often associated with all these well known writers. ``With a touch reminiscent of Faulkner but peculiarly her own style (Feld 2373). ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This definition holds true in the beginning portion of The Great Gatsby, however, as we approach the end, it changes drastically. Our first confrontation with the color white is when Nick first encounters Daisy, he realizes that everything she possesses is white; she lives, high in a white palace, (Fitzgerald.128) with, the windows...gleaming white, (Fitzgerald.10) she even wore a white dress. When Gatsby, stretched out his arms toward the dark water in a curious way, (Fitzgerald.24) Nick, distinguished nothing except a single green light, minute and far away, that might have been the end of a dock. This symbolizes the great distance he will have to go in order to obtain what he desires, and the water in between represents the one obstacle he will have to overcome, her husband Tom. Nevertheless, after he met with Daisy, he realized that, the colossal significance of the light had now vanished forever, (Fitzgerald.100) meaning that since he now had Daisy in her arms, the green light no longer seemed as far away as it used to because he didn t have to yearn for her love anymore. I was born and raised in Cape Verde until I was fourteen. My country was colonized by the Portuguese, so there are a lot common culture aspects between Cape Verde and Portugal . One of the results of colonization was implementation of catholicism as a primary religion in my country. It was not until recent years that other forms of religious started to emerge in Cape Verde. • 13. The Second Shift By Arlie Hochschild Book Review: The Second Shift Name University Book Review: The Second Shift It is believed that women have to work more than men. However, focuses upon studying the history of the society, they are never given an acknowledgment for this matter. With the passage of time, women start getting the equal importance in the society and they receive the right of engaging in the professional activities (Arlie Russell Anne, 1989). Still, in spite of having professional commitments, they do not get freedom from the childcare and other household activates, which doubles up their burden. On the other hand, men enjoy freedom from the household undertakings with excuses of their professional obligations. The Second Shift, by Arlie Hochschild, is a book, which sheds light on the women men work disparity in the family domain. Social Stress And Its Impact On The Classroom Overview of Changes in this Resubmission I was delighted to receive encouragement to resubmit this proposal and am extremely grateful to the five reviewers for their insightful comments. I was gratified to read Reviewer 5 s comment that the proposed activities are creative, original and potentially transformative, and Reviewer 1 s comments that this research may lead to theoretical advances in the understanding of stigma more broadly and that I am an expert in this field and well suited to carry out the proposed research. Although space limitations preclude me from detailing how I addressed every individual comment, here I will summarize the major changes to guide the Panel s review. I have kept the longitudinal study, which the entire Panel supported. In response to the Panel s concerns about the experimental and speed dating studies, I have dropped Studies 1 3 and replaced them with an experimental study that I have now successfully piloted with 50 participants. This new study addresses Panel concerns about the conceptualization of weight stigma and concerns that the manipulated construct might have been general social stress or rejection rather than weight stigma specifically. I have added a follow up point in the experience sampling study to assess weight so as to test the entire model. I have taken to heart the criticism that perceived overweight status is an imperfect selection variable; all studies now use samples with BMI 25 ( overweight ) and above. Carefully ... • 24. The Perceptions Of Symbolism In William Shakespeare s The... This poem can be interpreted from many perspectives. In the beginning, the reader might conclude it is all a dream, however you learn the bird is always present and does not leave. Most of the poem is told in the past tense, but we read the bird is still around in the present tense, days or months later. A dream would not last this long. It is also possible it is indeed a hallucination, and the speaker s madness is so deep the illusion is permanent. Maybe he actually saw a raven one night. However, even if it was a real bird, it would not sit in one place for such a long period of time, and coincidentally talk. The speaker tells of his attempts to ease his sorrow by reading at candlelight. We sense he is weak from his struggle of enduring a great loss. The speaker s surroundings are also described as bleak and dismal. The thought of a chamber at midnight has a dark and mysterious connotation. Ironically, the thought of a small room is a safe haven for the speaker, in comparison to the spooky world outside: Deep into that darkness peering, long I stood there wondering, fearing (25). There are several symbols present in The Raven. One thought is the raven represents the soul of Lenore coming back to haunt him. The raven is not of this world, perhaps a demon or spiritual creature, a messenger from the dead. The speaker asks the raven to bring Lenore back, Tell this sould with sorrow laden if, within the distant Aidenn,/ It shall class a saited maiden whom the angels name Lenore (93 94). There is also a sense the speaker is ridden by guilt for something. Perhaps he wronged Lenore and her soul comes back to torment him for it. Maybe he even killed her and Lenore is punishing him with his own immortality. She wants him to know the pain of being lonely and insane forever in her retribution. The bird watches him suffer, but does nothing but speak in order to increase the suffering. The raven inserts himself into the story, only so far, just enough to move the story along, to essentially manipulate it. The horror keeps the speaker from leaving his study. The repetitive knocking goes one and on like a sign of endless guilt, so much so, it makes him incoherent. Lenore wants him to suffer endlessly and she ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In Cellini s Perseus4, and Giambologna s The Rape of the Sabine Women5, violence towards women was moralized and perceived as normal. As the antithesis of this attitude, the character and deeds of Judith were viewed as subversive and offensive. Francesco di Lorenzo, herald of the Signoria, asked to have Donatello s Judith6 removed from the front of the Palazzo Vecchio in 1504 on the grounds that Judith is an omen of evil it is not proper that the woman should kill the male. Artists striving for any appearance of propriety created extremely feminine, quiet and bland Judiths, perhaps to avoid the controversy Gentileschi wholeheartedly invited.
