Professional Athletes Should Be Paid
Despite the fact that one half of the world argue professional athletes are paid an outrageous amount
of sums than some of the world s most important people for example the president ($40,000)
professors and doctors, the basic foundation of entertainment are athletes. These hardworking,
consistent individuals are talented and do what most of us only dream of. Hence they receive huge
amount of sums annually. During 1920 s, early professional sport teams were run on shoestring
budgets. This meant players were paid less than $300 a game and were often traded for similar sums.
This was due to the lack of endorsement and media support. Now the world of sports has changed,
because of the audience and companies, they get paid the right amount. for; ... Show more content on

According to Biography.com, Lance Armstrong (golden boy) the international cyclist who won the

Because of his actions, his reputation of an athlete who overcame cancer and someone who inspired

professional athletes have a temporary contribution on society for inspiring, being a role model for

Animal Cruelty And Its Effects On Society
For years, animals have been a form of entertainment whether it has been in movies, shows, circuses,
or for a romantic night out. Most families love this type of entertainment because it is kid friendly and
believe it is cool to watch animals do all kinds of tricks. But do they ever wonder what really goes on
behind closed doors? Entertainment animals have had to endure a lot of pain, depression, and torture
in the process; aside from that not all of them have that happy ending. No one enjoys pain, this
includes humans and animals, and so no one should have be force to go through it. Each year
hundreds of animals die from animal cruelty. Animals used for entertainment have to endure pain in
various ways this can be anything from being whipped to being electrocuted. Animals have no way of
saying STOP, stop hurting me all they can do is make noise but most handlers choose to ignore the
cries or enjoy the sound of it. While one is out trying to impress their significant other, they get on a
carriage because they think it is romantic, but do they stop to think that maybe the horse does not
enjoy pulling them around town. Horse drawn carriages have died each year from heat strokes,
inhaling exhaust fumes, and leg problems. Countless other incidents have occurred in which humans
and horses were involved, especially in the city; many of which humans were at fault either for
driving carelessly or impatiently. The local animal control officials are the ones who are supposed to

God America I Symbolism
E.E. Cummings writes a compelling piece of art that encompasses everything a poem has to offer.
From the beginning to the end of next to of course god america i Cummings presents a satirical style
to the reader. To accompany his style of writing Cummings utilizes lots of symbolism to get his point
across. Through the rant of his poem Cummings diction grab s the reader s attention and explains his
point. To spark the senses of the reader he embraces imagery to help the audience visualize his topic.
In next to of course god america i the author applies these four parts to craft a captivating and
influential series of lines. Cummings uses a sarcastic style of writing to show the reader how he feels
about his topic. He uses this to explain how blind patriotism is senseless because fighting just to die
has no meaning. By having s sarcastic style, he is able to get across to the reader that they only have
one life and not to waste it just showing how brave one can be. In lines 6 8 Cummings says in every
language even deafanddumb//thy sons acclaim your glorious name by gory // by jingo by gee by gosh

A. Cross Cultural Differences Company X is considering expanding its business to China. However,
prior to moving into a new and foreign market, Company X must understand the various cross cultural
differences that are relevant to properly conducting business in China. By being more sensitive to and
understanding the cross cultural differences, Company X s transition into the new market should be
less challenging and improve its chances of acceptance. Language, work ethic and material culture are
three cultural differences that should, first, be understood prior to pursuing opportunities in China.
Language is a barrier that will greatly influence the ability of Company X to conduct business in
China. Included in this category ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, employee loyalty can be described and improved by reciprocating favors. Developing
business relationships are expected to take more time in the Chinese culture as opposed to how they
are developed in the united States. In the U.S., businesses and clients typically meet in a formal setting
and focus on the business requirements and solutions whereas, in China, first, second and even third
meetings might be in informal settings where business is not expected to even be discussed. The legal
system is another issue to be considered when doing business in China because it is still viewed as
being in a developing stage. Contracts, for example, are highly influenced by this difference. In the
Chinese culture, contracts describe how relationships will be developed whereas in the United States,
the contract is a binding agreement that spells out the specific terms, conditions and expectations from
each party involved. As Company X pursues the possibility of expanding business to China, it must
understand that the Chinese business culture does not place as much emphasis on the binding force of
a written contract. B. Compare U.S. business practices to practices in your proposed country for each

Cadet Staff Training Essay
Many cadets with the Minnesota Wing Civil Air Patrol gained valuable training this past weekend at
Camp Ripley during the Cadre Training Weekend. Cadets (minors) and seniors (adults) trained
together for a summer leadership camp called encampment. They trained in areas ranging from
making beds to handling tricky situations in exercises called situational leadership simulations. Cadet

The Influence Of James And Cannon On Emotion
In the first paragraph, Schachter and Singer summarize (in somewhat clunky science language) the
historical research on emotion. According to the researchers, what are the views of James and Cannon
on emotion, and how do they differ? Summarize these theories in your own words, quoting any
evidence using APA citation style. According to the researchers, the views of James on emotion is that
our bodily changes are altered by awareness of the situation or event, causing the feeling from those
changes is the emotion. Next, during an experiment, Cannon concluded that the emotional states were
all distinguished by having excitement in the sympathetic nervous system. He concluded that physical
changes were not determinators for different ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The two factors are that emotion is a result from the state of arousal and a cognition where one
recognizes and understands the experience in order to label why one feels this way.
How do Schachter and Singer support the claim that physiological arousal is not enough to produce an
emotional response? Explain their conclusion with support from Maranon (1924).
Schachter and Singer claim of the state of arousal alone is not able to produce an emotional response
alone was supported from an experiment done by Maranon (1924). Maranon had injected adrenalin
into 210 of his patients and then asked them to examine their thoughts and feelings. In results, 71% of
the patients said they had no emotions and the 29% of the patients were not feelings happy or angry
that felt as if that should feel an emotion. Thus, Maranon s experiment supports the claim of Schachter
and Singer where the state of arousal alone cannot be able to produce an emotional state.
Explain how Schachter arrives at the idea of applying Festinger s (1954) evaluative needs.
Schachter arrives at this idea because comes to the suggestion of if someone is injected with adrenlin,
given a state of arousal, has no instant explanation why they feel palpitations, tremor, or face flushing.
Thus, this would lead to evalulative needs , which means that pressures would cause an individual to
label their own feelings because their body recognizes the emotional state it s

Why Bikers Are Bad
Most of us know when we are sick or a loved one has passed, how hard it is to cope with everyday
tasks. Bills add up and we fall behind not knowing where to turn for help. You hear all the negativity
on how bikers are all bad; some bikers are bad but, others aren t. There are bikers that help people
with benefit runs, and also with organizing ways of helping people that can t help themselves. Bikers
are your average day to day person. For bikers, it s all about trying to find some independence here in
America (Jonsson). They go to work, they have families, and they live just like one of us. The
negativity that you hear on the news is not all necessarily true. Most of what you hear isn t all cracked
up to be. There have been many headlines and newsfeeds that have made the media shun out the biker
community and make them look bad. Even the big teddy bear bikers have had a hard time to make a
normal life in the average community. Media has made it look like bikers aren t very good people.
People think that once the media portrays one bad thing that oh my god it s true, all bikers are terrible.

Mission Bay Research Paper
This past summer my family and I ventured to the stunning city, San Diego, California. We stayed at
the multiflorus Catamaran Hotel on Mission Bay. While we were in San Diego my sister and I tried a
new extravagant thing, surfing, in the Pacific Ocean. Everyday we traveled to different beaches with
different marvelous different features, in the different parts of San Diego. The trip was a blast, so
many memories were made that will last forever.
When we first arrived to the Catamaran Hotel we were amazed at all the extraordinary activities they
offer. The hotel was in front of Mission Bay and was three blocks away from Pacific Beach, which
was very convenient. We rented two paddle boards, for my sister and I, at the rental shop that the hotel
offered, and paddled on Mission Bay. The location of the Catamaran Hotel was in a perfect place

Mental Retardation And The Age Of 18
MENTAL RETARDATION AND THE ABLITY TO LEARN
MENTAL RETARDATION [AN OVERVIEW]
WHAT DOES MENTAL RETARDATION MEAN?
To quote, Mental retardation (MR) is a developmental disability that first appears in children under the
age of 18. It is defined as a level of intellectual functioning (as measured by standard intelligence tests
) that is well below average and results in significant limitations in the person s daily living skills
(adaptive functioning.
If a person has an Intelligence quotient or an IQ below 70 to 75 ,he or she is considered as mentally
retarded. Mental retardation is basically a social problem.
A person with mental retardation has limitation in two areas:
Intellectual functioning
Adaptive behaviour
Mental retardation also known as intellectual disability stems due to varied reasons:
Genetic conditions
Problems during child birth
Problems during pregnancy [excessive intake of alcohol]
Injury or illness
The cause is unknown in two third cases of all the people with mental retardation.[ Unknown factors]
If a person has an Intelligence quotient or an IQ below 70 to 75 ,he or she is considered as mentally
retarded.
The development aspects of a child affected due to mental retardation are:
Language ability
Learning
Attention
Memory
Emotional quotient
Social skills.
We shall now see how the ability to learn is affected in the mentally retarded

The Label Of Gnostic Gospel
The label Gnostic gospel was used for the revelation dialogues between Jesus and his disciples, which
form a prominent group of Gnostic writings. Titles of the form gospel according to ... became attached
to the canonical Gospels in order to distinguish another writing in a collection; this was a development
in the mid to late second century. In addition, when copying collections of writings, scribes had to
assign titles to individual Gnostic works. Based on how rarely gospel appears as a title, one would
have to conclude that Gnostics had little interest in the specification. Gnosticism is a religion that
differentiates the evil god of this world from a higher, more abstract God revealed by Jesus Christ. It is
a religion that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Once attributions with no basis in the works themselves are discounted, the number of Gnostic texts
entitled gospel shrinks even further. The Valentinian entries, the Gospel of Truth and the Gospel of
Philip, have no ties to the genre gospel. Valentinian teachers interpret Gospels that are common
property of the larger Christian community. In the remaining cases, both the Gospel of Thomas and
the Gospel of Judas have an incipit that employs a different literary designation. A later scribe took the
apostle s name from the incipit to create the title. The opening pages of the Gospel of Mary have been
lost. Her prominence in the second half of the text may have provided a scribe with the name for a
title. None of the Gnostic tractates entitled gospel initially had that designation.
Used in the oral sense for preaching a message about salvation revealed through the coming of Jesus,
it is the content of their soteriology, not the term that distinguishes Gnostics from other Christians.
Used in the mid second century forward for written accounts of Jesus and his teaching commonly
circulated among Christians, there is no special Gnostic Gospel. Gnostic teachers rely on the range of
gospel traditions being circulated among Christians, with no greater tendency than believers to exploit
apocryphal Gospels. In addition, the poetics of the Gnostic universe push its teachers away from
imaginative engagement with the historical or physical world such as might produce additional

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) Essay
If you owe your bank a hundred pounds, you have a problem; but if you owe it a million, it has.(1)
In the year of 1327, Kind Edward III of England defaulted on his Italian debts. This caused the banks
of Bardi and Peruzzi in Florence to collapse. Who would know that over 650 years later, the world
would still have these types of problems? After World War II, the need for an organization like the
IMF was finally realized. After the war, politicians and economists began to work on blue prints for a
postwar world. They envisioned a liberal international economic order, based on stable world
currencies and revived world trade. The International Monetary Fund (IMF) finally came into

International banks have made risky loans all over the world because they knew that if trouble arose,
the fund would step in to resolve the situation as it has done in the past. The IMF has played a critical
role in many of the epochal events in the 1990 s. The IMF lent 18 billion dollars to Mexico in 1994,
after the peso collapsed. It gave Russia over 10 billion dollars in 1999. The IMF has helped drive
inflation from 1,000 percent a year down to a tolerable 10 percent a year, thanks to Russia listening to
what the IMF said and doing as they suggested. It has given Indonesia 10 billion dollars, and has
helped Indonesia demonopolize industries. It gave 4 billion to Thailand, which was the epicenter of
the East Asian Crisis. The IMF helped closed dozens of reckless banks. True, the IMF did many little
things wrong, however, it did the important ones right. The Philippines is a prime example on how
effectively the IMF can work. For years, Filipinos suffered the weaknesses of economic and business
policies. Under the tutelage of the International Monetary Fund for nearly 30 years, and especially
during the past decade, they faced up to their problems. Many sectors of their society suffered greatly,
and some complained loudly. However, they persisted and, with the help of the IMF and the courage
of the Philippine people, they exited from the IMF program. How did they do this? They assembled

Tie Research Papers
The first time I ever wore a tie was the first Wednesday of fifth grade. I grumbled and huffed as my
mother fumbled with the tie, struggling to make me keep it on. Eventually she won, commented on
how handsome I looked, and we both got in the car. I was not used to wearing anything so tightly
around my neck all day, so I constantly loosened the tie, only to be told by 3 teachers the moment I did
so. American culture today feels that a piece of silk around one s neck transforms that person from a
lazy bum who sits around all day to a sharp, sophisticated guy who knows how to get things done. A
tie is essentially a silk noose (a sentiment echoed by unwilling teenagers) that counts as formal wear in
today s culture; however, because of American influence and the origin of proto neckties in Western
Europe, the act of wearing a tie for white collar work and formal wear has spread beyond America s
borders. To ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Absolutism Dbq
After the Renaissance, there were many factors that gave way and led to chaos, and then the choice
between an absolutist government, or a constitutional one. These factors included the decline of the

famed Renaissance thinkers, and riots/revolts from unhappy citizens of numerous classes. Some states
like France, Russia, and Prussia, resulted in all the power gathered under the monarch s personal

They all had similar tactics in taxation, but each had economic policies which resembled one another.
Colbert, Louis XIV s financial manager, promoted mercantilism, a policy of maintaining a favorable
balance of trade in order to accumulate wealth. These mercantilist policies massively boosted France s
economy. The French people were to produce everything they needed, exports were increased, and
immigration by talented peoples was encouraged. Positively, this approach allowed France to become
a competitor in trade. As a result, France surged in power and wealth, giving Louis XIV the ability and
money to reform other areas of the government. Likewise, Peter the Great was inspired by his travels
to use mercantilist ideas. More money meant more opportunity to better the country. Furthermore, he
boosted industry and production of raw materials. This whole economic sector was underneath the
monarchy s control, in order to promote the success Peter the Great saw necessary and fit.
Correspondingly, in Prussia, the next Hohenzollern was Frederick the Great, who applied enlightened
absolutist ideas to the economy. Frederick took a more humane approach to policy, which would
strengthen the state, and he also reconstructed agriculture and industry. Altogether, the monetary and
financial systems these enlightened rulers employed were to make more money. More financial

Sonny s Blues Analysis Essay
It s repulsive to think you have to suffer that much (Baldwin 132). Many would argue that in life, pain
outweighs pleasure. Freud contends that although we are unable to reconcile with the truth because it
frightens us, each and every one of us has an unconscious desire to die. Death, according to Freud, is
the ultimate escape from the sufferings and hardships which define human life and reality. In Sonny s
Blues, James Baldwin confronts this dark truth about human nature in his character, Sonny. Sonny s
suffering becomes so unbearable that he refuses to accept it as an inevitable condition of the human
experience; he refuses to take it : But nobody just takes it, Sonny cried, That s what I m telling you!
Everybody tries not to (Baldwin 133). Rather than directly embrace death, Sonny seeks relief and

The more one becomes dependent on a drug like heroin, the more control one relinquishes to the drug
itself. Eventually, Sonny is no longer in control, but rather the heroin and the people who provide it.
This becomes a gateway for even more suffering and pain. Luckily for Sonny, he has found an
alternative to this downward spiraling phenomena in music. But the man who creates the music is
hearing something else, is dealing with the roar rising from the void and imposing order on it as it hits
the air (Baldwin 137). Through his piano, Sonny is able to grasp the chaos within and impose an
empirical order on it by translating it into musical notes. Sonny s escape into music then becomes the
conscious representation of the unconscious death instinct. By imposing order, Sonny is decreasing his
amount of suffering, and therefore moving towards peace and rest. The words of Sonny s brother,
upon hearing his jazz, are a testament to the power of music to transport us from the hardships of

The Change in Resistance of a Carbon Paper
The Change in Resistance of a Carbon Paper
Introduction
The aim of this experiment is to see how the resistance of a carbon coated piece of paper changes
when the different variables change.
Variables
A variable is a change in an experiment that could alter the outcome/results of that experiment, and for
this experiment the main variables are type of paper, width of paper, length of paper, and temperature.
We are going to be studying how changing the width of the paper affects the resistance, and so to
ensure a fair test we will have to keep all of the other variables constant, as if they were also changing
the results could be affected and the experiment would not be of any ... Show more content on

Preliminary Experiment
The purpose of the preliminary experiment was to decide on an appropriate length to keep the paper
constant at, and an appropriate shunt for the ammeter. The layout and format is the same as the main
experiment (see later).
We tested the various ammeter shunts, and decided to use the 10mA shunt, as it gave a reading in the
middle of the scale, whereas the other shunts had given readings off or almost off the scale.
We also found that 32.5cm was the optimum length for the paper, as it puts the reading at about 10 on
the scale, which is a good as it ensures that as we decrease the width (hence decreasing the amperes),
the readomg will not go off the scale as it was high to start with if we had started with a length that put
it at something lower like 3 to start with, it could have gone off the bottom of the scale and we would
have to start over.

The Holocaust and Nazi Germany
Introduction (150 words)
As a result of the Holocaust, a clear link can be made between Nazi racial ideologies and Hitler s
foreign policy. Firstly, Nazi ideologies were a fundamental facet to the Holocaust, as it included the
philosophies of who constituted as a Jew, and the consequent treatment of those diagnosed as Jews.
Secondly, Hitler s foreign policies were another significant aspect of the holocaust, as it was a
fundamental part in the construction of Hitler s ultimate goal. Thirdly, the foreign policy and racial
ideologies are revealed to be inextricably linked through the invasion of Poland in 1939. Fourthly it is
evident that these foreign policies and racial ideologies contributed to Germany s involvement in
World War Two. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Additionally, as outlined in the Nazis racial ideologies, Hitler desire to reclaim ethnic Germans, or
Volksdeutsche back into the Reich who were living outside of Germany could not be achieved without
the extension of the Reich land, therefore making Poland a good target. Furthermore, Poland had over
3 million Jews, and of those 3 million, 2 million Jews came directly under Nazi rule, meaning
Germany could relocate those Jews, freeing up many houses for the relocated of the Volksdeutsche .
Thus, it is evident that the Nazis foreign policy had multiple incentives and were significant facets of
Hitler s ultimate goal.

In this context, it can be observed that the Nazis racial ideologies and foreign policies are intimately

1939, and was occupied by Germany until early 1945. As revealed in the Nazi foreign policy, Poland
had 3 million Jews, and one of the chief leaders who executed the treatment of Polish Jews after the

ethnic and racial Germans abroad, including the creation of settlement areas for them . As a result of

Student Involvement In Higher Education
Universities and colleges from corner to corner of the country face a non increasing problem of
student attrition; student involvement could be a key part of decreasing this issue. Why should we get
involved? A few reasons why we should get involved in college: failure to become involved in campus

A Comparison Of King Arthur In Sir Gawain And The Green...
King Arthur was an ideal person to many people during the medieval time period. He was brave, fair,
fearless, supernatural, and honorable. These characteristics made King Arthur a legendary person.
Many stories of the King Arthur legend exist today. These stories have many similarities and
differences such as in Morte d Arthur and Sir Gawain and the Green Knight. In both stories, the author
s use the code of chivalry and fantasy, but one author decides to let King Arthur die and the other does
not. In the stories Morte d Arthur and Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, the use of the code of
chivalry is used on the knights Lancelot and Sir Gawain. In Morte d Arthur, Lancelot breaks the code
of chivalry because he is not honest when King Arthur ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In Morte d Arthur, fantasy is used when a hand comes out of the water after Lancelot throws the sword
into the water. This is a fantasy because hands do not miraculously appear from the water. Another
fantasy is used in the story at the end when it says that King Arthur may or may not be dead. This is a
fantasy because King Arthur s son killed him when he hit Arthur in the head, meaning that King
Arthur is obviously dead. While in Sir Gawain and the Green Knight fantasy is used because a person
cannot be green, people are different shades of brown. Also, another fantasy used in the story is when
the Green Knight has his head blown off, but he still survives. This is a fantasy because he should
have died after Sir Gawain blew his head off.
However, there is a difference in the stories because, in Morte d Arthur, King Arthur dies. King Arthur
dies because his son and he are enemies. His son is after the power that he deserves as the son of a
king. So, he decides to kill King Arthur to have power, but he also dies along with Arthur. While in Sir
Gawain and the Green Knight King Arthur does not die. He does not die because Sir Gawain is the
one to accept the Green Knight s challenge of cutting each other s neck

The Classification Of Water Imagery Present Throughout...
Shakespeare is renowned for his vividly descriptive, original, and pioneering use of imagery in many
of his plays, but their effect on the audience s understanding of his plays is most obvious in the
tragedies, particularly in Macbeth. Images in Shakespeare s works are used, according to Shakespeare
critic G. Wilson Knight, to craft a play s atmosphere or the permeating tone or mood of a play (3).
However, this attitude between images and atmosphere creates an environment where different
definitions of images contribute to different interpretations of the subjective atmosphere that is born
out of each individual reader s perception of the play. Because of this discrepancy, a strict definition of
the term image should be observed. The term image will refer to physical objects or actions that are
used by Shakespeare to clarify broad themes and character insights throughout the play. Specifically,
the classification of water imagery present throughout Macbeth will be discussed broadly to include
descriptions of rain, water, and the act of cleansing with water, whether or not they are real or
imagined by the characters. Shakespeare uses all of these images to create an atmosphere that
highlights Macbeth and Lady Macbeth s guilt and their subsequent desire to purify their tainted
moralities. In addition to this, Macbeth will be interpreted through the lens of correcting chaos into
order. This righting of natural order is brought forth by the rainstorms of the witches to

Hearing Screenings
Without hearing screenings average diagnosis of permanent hearing loss is greater than 2 years old.
Late diagnosis of hearing loss has been one of the contributing factors of reduced language skills in
children (Durieux Smith, Fitzpatrick, Whittingham, 2008). Since the early 1980s, the Joint Committee
on Infant Hearing has published recommendations and multiple position statements which support the
use of newborn hearing screenings, to decrease the age of diagnosis of children with permanent
hearing loss. By 2000, there was a federal law to support universal newborn hearing screenings
(UNHS). The law also promoted early intervention for children with hearing loss, in hopes to improve
speech/language abilities for children with hearing loss ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The study included children who received a diagnosis of a congenital or early onset (before 6 months)
permanent hearing loss that was not medically treatable (Durieux Smith et al., 2008). Data was
collected from the groups of children who were identified with permanent hearing loss through a
targeted high risk screening program, a universal newborn hearing screening program, or through a
medical referral either with risk factors or without factors. Data on the onset of permanent hearing
loss, route to referral, etiology, age at diagnosis, and amplification fitting were all obtained from their
medical charts to determine the primary outcomes of language abilities with early identification.
Results from the study showed children screened at infancy were diagnosed earlier than those referred
with risk factors (Durieux Smith et al., 2008). Children with risk factors, in turn, were diagnosed
earlier than referred without risk factors. Although, the age of diagnosis of referred children was seen
to improve over time, it remained significantly higher than children receiving screenings. However,
this trend of earlier diagnosis may reflect greater awareness of hearing loss. Results from this study
indicate UNHS leads therefore earlier diagnosis and to earlier amplification, which then leads to
earlier auditory stimulation (Durieux Smith et al.,

Instructional Assistant Personal Statement
Since I remember, I always wanted to be a teacher. For instance, my dream came true at the very
young age of 19 years old. In my country, Guatemala, I got my Vocational Teaching Credential.
Unfortunately, my long awaited dream ended too soon. Six years later, my life completely changed
when I moved to the United States.
My Vocational Teaching Credential and six years of experience working in an Elementary school were
worthless, because I didn t speak any English at all. The language barrier was a huge obstacle, but I
was determined to overcome it. Consequently, at the age of 25, I had to start my education all over

The Depiction Of A Hero In Captain America
It s another beautiful day with people weaving in and out of buildings getting to their destination
following the status quo.The normal everyday routine when all of a sudden something goes south

the citizens. Then bursting into action a Hero bursts onto the scene and saves the day, and ultimately
the hero ends up winning. The No matter who the hero may be all hero movies follow the same theme.
What really changes is the way that said hero is built up through the cinematography of the movie.
That is where the true differences can be made, but the depiction of one hero in particular remains
constant. That hero being Captain America. The first box office depiction of Captain America took

The First Triumvirate
The First Triumvirate The first triumvirate was and alliance between three prominent politicians,
Crassus, Pompey and Julius Caesar. The Roman historian Livy described the First Triumvirate as a
conspiracy against the state by its three leading citizens . The agreement was unofficial and private. It
was formed in the summer of 60 59 B.C. The first triumvirate however is a bit misleading in name.
Not only was it never called that by the contemporary Romans, but it was a far more inclusive factio
(faction) than the term triumvirate implies. How and why the first triumvirate was created: · Crassus

Caesar offered Pompey another wife, his grandniece Octavis. Pompey refused, instead choosing to

Role Of Federalism In Mexico
Prior to gaining independence, Mexico was a thriving colony that was beginning to find its footing in
international trade, but inner conflicts within the government structure which had been increasing
dramatically, caused a great divide among citizens. Fueled by the disagreement between staying under
the tight restrictions of Spain s bourbon reforms or creating their own nation to which Mexico would
govern itself, a tug of war ignited as each side argued for their respective policies to be put in place.
Mexico gaining their independence in 1821 was the main cause which created the standoff between

Leaders are essential to any expedition, or group project. The thing that sets apart mediocre leaders
from the extraordinary are the style in which they lead, their personal attributes, and their verbal
characteristics. Sir Ernest Shackleton, the leader of the Imperial Trans Antarctic Expedition on the
Endurance, had exceptional leadership style, personal attributes and verbal characteristics. Each of
these aspects contributed to Shackletons success as a leader.

This brings me to the next part of Shackleton s leadership style; organization. Whether he was
choosing a crew, or organizing everyone on the Endurance when it was tipping, and plunging into the
cold sea, Shackleton always worked in an organized fashion. An example from the story was when he
picked his crew very strategically, From his flood of volunteers, Shackleton began to pick a crew.
Some of the leader s choices were obvious, (7). This shows that he is organized and knows exactly
who will help him in the adventure, and who will not. Finally the third aspect included in Shackleton s
leadership style was adaptability. Adapt means to make suitable changes to fit within the requirements
or conditions. Shackleton did exactly that. He was able to make suitable changes to fit within the
requirements or conditions. When Endurance was being crushed by the frozen floes, Shackleton
changed his plans accordingly, The pressure stopped again, and the Boss ordered the men to restore
order to the jumbled ship, (44). This quote is a clear example of Shackleton s ability to adapt, as he
could have left the ship and given up. Instead, he adapted. Another example of this was when the ship
got stuck, Shackleton made suitable changes to the original plan to fit within the conditions; he
planned for Elephant Island. Had Shackleton not adapted to the circumstances, the crew would

The Sun Also Rises By Ernest Hemingway
The Sun Also Rises
Ernest Hemingway
Introduction
Ernest Hemingway s The Sun Also Rises is a classic work of American prose, and is essential to
understanding the social climate of the 1920 s, and the Lost Generation . Hemingway s motley cast of
star crossed lovers, rabble rousers, expatriates, gamblers, and burgeoning alcoholics reflect the
excitement, loneliness, and disillusionment experienced by Hemingway and his contemporaries. In
addition, the post war angst of young people of the time is illustrated throughout all of the characters,
affecting their lives and developing them as people. Because of this, The Sun Also Rises is now
considered one of the best novels to come out of the era, as well as one of the most important
American works of all time.
Summary The Sun Also Rises begins in 1920 s Paris, with Jake Barnes describing his friend, Rob
Cohn. He likes Cohn but criticizes him, saying he wasted his money, and is boring and plain. Cohn is
writing his novel while in Paris, but once he finishes, he travels back to the United States to find a
publisher for his book, which he does, and also finds social success in New York, something he felt he
was lacking in Paris. Upon his return, He and Barnes travel to a nightclub in the city, and Barnes sees
his friend, Brett Ashley, a beautiful, intelligent and modern woman whom both Jake and Cohn have
feelings for. Jake kisses her that night, but although she loves Jake, she tells him she isn t willing to be

Ethnography Dancing Skeletons
Ethnography Dancing Skeletons; Life and Death in West Africa Response: I found Katherine A.
Dettwyler s, Dancing Skeletons; Life and Death in West Africa very interesting though I did not like
the way in which it was written. To me it was written in a very scattered brain way, similar to how a
hyperactive childs diary would look like. At times when Dettwyler was trying to explain something,
she would go into tangents, mostly about her own personal opinions of the topic, which ruined the
mood of the book, lessened the impact of whatever she was talking about at the time and frankly, it
just annoyed me. I found it difficult to understand what was trying to be said and it made it difficult to
read. I think if she didn t try to cover so much in such a small book malnutrition, female circumcision
and other random topics I would have enjoyed it more. One thing that I did like was how she wasn t
political on her trips to Mali, she just talked to people. She didn t preach just talk and I think that s
what helped improve these people s lives. It was interesting but I wouldn t read it again or recommend
it like I did for the Spirit Catches You and You Fall Down. Main Points: Though Dettwyler was
scatterbrained, I did recognize some of her main points for writing this book. Her main points were to

way to achieve this was to take a holistic approach and proper education. When the CARE

Josephine Tey s The Daughter Of Time
Until I read The Daughter of Time, I liked history. This was fortunate, since the curriculum my mother
used to homeschool me and my sisters was literature based, and as a result, we read a lot of historical
fiction. Some I enjoyed more than others, but over the years, as I grew to be quite a voracious reader,
historical fiction remained one of my most commonly read genres. And as my reading comprehension
developed, classic literature and several historical biographies slipped into my reading list. I knew I
enjoyed history, but only in a vague, half conscious manner. The fact that many of the books I read
were award winning and historically accurate was incidental.

What Are The Differences Between Formality And Informality
Communication rule is governed through social settings, for appropriate responses to communication
stimuli. An example in the United States would be a student in class raising his/her hand to ask a
teacher a question. In the classroom setting, it s rude to just blurt out a question without being called
upon. 2. What are the differences between rules and norms? Rules are expected or intended behaviors
and their outcomes with mutual expectations. There are no moral or ethical connotations. Whereas
norms are socially shared guidelines for expected and accepted behaviors. 3. How do cultures differ in
formality and informality give examples. Cultures can have views regarding events and people that
range from extremely informal to very formal. In the U.S. people tend to treat others with informality
and directness. They avoid the use of formal codes of conduct, titles, honorifics, and ritualistic
manners in their interactions with others. On the other hand, there are many cultures that place a high
value on formality. In Egypt, Turkey, Japan, for instance, the student teacher relationship is very
formal. In these countries when the teacher enters the room, students will assume a subordinate
attitude and in some cases may even stand and bow. Many Americans will call others by their first
name, but in other countries such as Germany, calling others by their first name makes them
uncomfortable. 4. Give four examples of different practices in the business setting that reflect

and Dean seems to show that women could only be a virgin/mother figure or a whore. Throughout the
novel there are many instances in which women and their feelings or actions are either referred to
flippantly or blatantly degraded. It can be said, however, that Sal (Kerouac) did not necessarily agree
with this narrow female identity, and there is evidence to support this claim. The novel also shows
though that Sal did participate in this male forced female stereotyping whether he ... Show more

So, in consequence, there are many instances of the diminishment of the female identity. These can be
seen in the novels treatment of the female characters like Marylou, Sal s Aunt, and Terry. Marylou is
repeatedly talked about, not talked to. In the part in which Dean wishes Sal to sleep with Marylou the
only dialogue that goes on is either Sal s or Dean s. Marylou has no lines. All she really has is a little
go ahead . That is all and that really does not even imply cooperation; only coercion like go ahead and
You do Your thing to me . Dean is flippantly wanting Marylou to sleep with his friend with little
regard to anything she feels. She is a women, and, what is more to Dean she is a whore so of course
she will sleep with Sal. To Sal s credit though he does ask what she wants or thinks from the start but
this sudden care seems to arise due to his own nervousness and insecurities not any kind of genuine
feeling for Marylou. Her identity as seen through the eyes of men would fall into the whore stereotype
of women. This is the exact opposite from Sal s Aunt. The most apparent treatment of Sal s Aunt as
something less than an equal comes at the end of part one. Sal has just returned from his first trip west.
He is tired. He has been starving for three days now and of course eats everything in the house. Then
his Aunt s few extensive lines in the entire novel occur, and in a decidedly motherly fashion she says
Poor little Salvatore . She has fulfilled Sal s

The Absence Of Sound In Danny Boyle s Shallow Grave
Just how important is sound to a film, is it more or less important than the actual visuals going on in a
scene, or does its importance vary from scene to scene? Could sound make a scene great, but
completely ruin another scene with the same kind of style? How does sound make us feel, or think
differently as opposed to not having it. Just how powerful is the absence of sound even, the absence of
a key element that is used in almost every movie being taken away abruptly can make viewers feel
uneasy and impact them more than the most complex score of music, or the best dialogue. Just what
makes sound so powerful? In Danny Boyle s Shallow Grave Sound, and the absence of it, is played
with quite a bit and in many different ways. From layering sound of one scene onto a completely
different scene, to taking out the music/background noise entirely to focus on key scenes, he definitely
toys around with a few different ways to grab the viewer s attention and does it quite effectively.

Economic Development Essay
Location
Bangladesh is located in South Asia and shares borders with India to the west, the north and the east.
To the southeast lies Burma. The southern shores are washed by the Bay of Bengal. Bangladesh
occupies a fertile delta created by two of Asia s largest river systems, the Ganges and the Brahmiputra.
Politics
Bangladesh is one of the youngest nations in Asia. Until two and a half decades ago, it formed the
eastern half of Pakistan; the western half lay over 2,000 km away, on the other side of India. In 1971,
Pakistan s army attempted to subdue an East Pakistani movement for regional autonomy which led to
a bloody civil war. India joined the war in early December of that year and, later that month,
Bangladesh became an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With its newfound political stability, Bangladesh has undertaken an ambitious program of economic
reforms, and opened its doors to foreign investment. A large workforce, and low wages and costs
make Bangladesh an attractive base for setting up manufacturing and assembling facilities.
The present government has initiated several measures to stimulate economic growth. New businesses
are being encouraged and there are generous tax incentives for exporters. Foreign exchange
restrictions have been eased. Overseas businesses are being wooed as foreigners are now allowed to
own ventures wholly and are permitted to invest in the stock market. The mobilization of domestic
resources is a key priority of the program.
The results have been satisfactory. Economic growth has improved steadily since 1991. Inflation has
been substantially reduced and the external current account balance has also improved.
As a result of more rapid growth in the services sector, overall real GDP growth was 5.5 per cent in
1996, 5.9% in 1997 and 5.6% is the preliminary estimate for 1998. Encouraged by the government s
policies of deregulation and financial sector reform, both private and public sector investments and
national savings have increased steadily. Investment was equivalent to 12.1 per cent of GDP in 1992,
12.7 per cent in 1993, 14.6 per cent in 1994 16 per cent in 1995, 16.5 per cent in 1996 and 16.75 per
cent in 1997. The national savings rate was 9.6 per cent of

Descriptive Experience Of Fish
Version 2: 5 fish, mean fish, dead fish, no fish!
I opened the black hatch on the lid of the fish tank. Turning open the lid of the plastic container, I
reached inside and took out a pinch of the musty smelling fish food flakes. I sprinkled the flakes over
the water in the fish tank and watched as the 5 fish swam up, gulping up the thin copper, crimson, and
mahogany colored flakes. I watched until the fish swam away, finished with their meal. I then closed
the hatch, put away and closed the jar of fish food, and walked out of my room. Feeding time was
over. Just a couple days ago, I had been at Petsmart with my family.
The fish tanks at Petsmart were all lined up against the walls, illuminated by blue and violet lights.
Each fish tank held fish of all kinds of different shapes, colors, and sizes. My family had bought 5
glimmering fish, a bag of fish care supplies, and when we got home, my mom and dad took the old
fish tank we had in our garage, and much to my delight, set it up in my room, on top of a low
bookcase.
One day, me and my mom both saw something odd in the fish tank.. One of the fish, a huge fish with
silver colored scales, was pecking at some of the smaller fish, causing a couple of their scales to fall
off and drift around in the water. Me and my sister started calling that fish the, mean fish. Later, I
walked in my room to see that the mean fish was now stuck inside a fishbowl! But technically, the
fishbowl was actually inside the fish tank, just a

Interstate Highway System Research Paper
The Interstate Highway System has gotten better over the past years but it s the little things that can be
a big problem in the end. In the past, the highway system was worse than it is today. Back then there
weren t a big amount of highways; most of the roads were dirt roads and that was a HUGE problem.
Due to there not being many roads I m sure that caused traffic to be a big problem. I m sure it wasn t
safe to drive on those dirt roads if the weather was bad such as it being windy or it raining. There
needed to be a change made for EASIER, SAFER, and QUICKER highways.
First, making it easier for the people, say if someone wanted to travel out of state and they needed to
get to their destination at a certain time. Next, the road that

The Consequences Of Blame In Romeo And Juliet
Blame is the action of placing fault on someone else s shoulders in order to take responsibility off of
ours. People resort to blame because they do not want to own up to the responsibility and the
consequences following the fault. The quote, We live in a culture of blame. People will blame anyone
or anything for their misery sooner than to take responsibility to own it and make it better, is an
excerpt of a book written by psychologists Dr. Henry Cloud and Dr. John Townsend. Blame comes
into play during Romeo and Juliet, because the fault of the couple s death rests on the shoulders of
King Capulet and Friar Laurence. Capulet and Friar Laurence are to blame for Romeo and Juliet s
deaths, because the Friar marries them in the first place, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Friar s decision to marry Romeo and Juliet is significant, because that is what caused Romeo to
aggravate Tybalt, eventually leading into two deaths of royalty. In Romeo and Juliet, although the
priest easily could have decided not to marry the two, whom originate from warring sides of a city,
marries them anyway. The Friar was fully aware of the inevitable consequences foreshadowed to
come. This is illustrated when Romeo pleads to the Friar to marry the pair, to which the priest fiercely
denies. Over the course of only a few minutes, the Friar sees an image of God and has the divine
inspiration to marry them. This piece of the play creates a ripple effect, in which Romeo emerges from
the church in an excited, happy manner, escalating the situation between Mercutio and Tybalt, which
then eventually fell into a downward spiral towards Romeo and Juliet s graves. Moreover, the priest s
settlement to marry Romeo and Juliet signifies importance, because his loyalty to his overall
conclusion to marry them ultimately lead to their deaths. This is expressed in the scene where he
provides a solution to Juliet to delay her marriage. As Juliet comes crying to the Friar after everyone in
her household has betrayed her, he offers her a solution in which she will sleep for 48 hours. Juliet
impulsively agrees and snatches the bottle, quickly thanking him and running home to sleep. By
handing her the potion first, the priest sets their graves in stone by not telling Romeo the plan, causing
confusion, and ultimately,

These hardworking, consistent individuals are talented and do what most of us only dream of. Hence they receive huge amount of sums annually. • 3. Animal Cruelty And Its Effects On Society For years, animals have been a form of entertainment whether it has been in movies, shows, circuses, or for a romantic night out. Most families love this type of entertainment because it is kid friendly and believe it is cool to watch animals do all kinds of tricks. But do they ever wonder what really goes on behind closed doors? Entertainment animals have had to endure a lot of pain, depression, and torture in the process; aside from that not all of them have that happy ending. No one enjoys pain, this includes humans and animals, and so no one should have be force to go through it. Each year hundreds of animals die from animal cruelty. Animals used for entertainment have to endure pain in various ways this can be anything from being whipped to being electrocuted. Animals have no way of saying STOP, stop hurting me all they can do is make noise but most handlers choose to ignore the cries or enjoy the sound of it. While one is out trying to impress their significant other, they get on a carriage because they think it is romantic, but do they stop to think that maybe the horse does not enjoy pulling them around town. Horse drawn carriages have died each year from heat strokes, inhaling exhaust fumes, and leg problems. Countless other incidents have occurred in which humans and horses were involved, especially in the city; many of which humans were at fault either for driving carelessly or impatiently. However, prior to moving into a new and foreign market, Company X must understand the various cross cultural differences that are relevant to properly conducting business in China. By being more sensitive to and understanding the cross cultural differences, Company X s transition into the new market should be less challenging and improve its chances of acceptance. Developing business relationships are expected to take more time in the Chinese culture as opposed to how they are developed in the united States. In the U.S., businesses and clients typically meet in a formal setting and focus on the business requirements and solutions whereas, in China, first, second and even third meetings might be in informal settings where business is not expected to even be discussed. The legal system is another issue to be considered when doing business in China because it is still viewed as being in a developing stage. Contracts, for example, are highly influenced by this difference. In the Chinese culture, contracts describe how relationships will be developed whereas in the United States, the contract is a binding agreement that spells out the specific terms, conditions and expectations from each party involved. As Company X pursues the possibility of expanding business to China, it must understand that the Chinese business culture does not place as much emphasis on the binding force of a written contract. According to the researchers, what are the views of James and Cannon on emotion, and how do they differ? Summarize these theories in your own words, quoting any evidence using APA citation style. According to the researchers, the views of James on emotion is that our bodily changes are altered by awareness of the situation or event, causing the feeling from those changes is the emotion. The two factors are that emotion is a result from the state of arousal and a cognition where one recognizes and understands the experience in order to label why one feels this way. How do Schachter and Singer support the claim that physiological arousal is not enough to produce an emotional response? Explain their conclusion with support from Maranon (1924). Schachter and Singer claim of the state of arousal alone is not able to produce an emotional response alone was supported from an experiment done by Maranon (1924). Maranon had injected adrenalin into 210 of his patients and then asked them to examine their thoughts and feelings. In results, 71% of the patients said they had no emotions and the 29% of the patients were not feelings happy or angry that felt as if that should feel an emotion. Thus, Maranon s experiment supports the claim of Schachter and Singer where the state of arousal alone cannot be able to produce an emotional state. Explain how Schachter arrives at the idea of applying Festinger s (1954) evaluative needs. Schachter arrives at this idea because comes to the suggestion of if someone is injected with adrenlin, given a state of arousal, has no instant explanation why they feel palpitations, tremor, or face flushing. Thus, this would lead to evalulative needs , which means that pressures would cause an individual to label their own feelings because their body recognizes the emotional state it s ... In addition, when copying collections of writings, scribes had to assign titles to individual Gnostic works. Once attributions with no basis in the works themselves are discounted, the number of Gnostic texts entitled gospel shrinks even further. The Valentinian entries, the Gospel of Truth and the Gospel of Philip, have no ties to the genre gospel. Valentinian teachers interpret Gospels that are common property of the larger Christian community. In the remaining cases, both the Gospel of Thomas and the Gospel of Judas have an incipit that employs a different literary designation. A later scribe took the apostle s name from the incipit to create the title. The opening pages of the Gospel of Mary have been lost. Her prominence in the second half of the text may have provided a scribe with the name for a title. None of the Gnostic tractates entitled gospel initially had that designation. Used in the oral sense for preaching a message about salvation revealed through the coming of Jesus, it is the content of their soteriology, not the term that distinguishes Gnostics from other Christians. Used in the mid second century forward for written accounts of Jesus and his teaching commonly circulated among Christians, there is no special Gnostic Gospel. International banks have made risky loans all over the world because they knew that if trouble arose, the fund would step in to resolve the situation as it has done in the past. It gave Russia over 10 billion dollars in 1999. The IMF has helped drive inflation from 1,000 percent a year down to a tolerable 10 percent a year, thanks to Russia listening to what the IMF said and doing as they suggested. Eventually she won, commented on how handsome I looked, and we both got in the car. I was not used to wearing anything so tightly around my neck all day, so I constantly loosened the tie, only to be told by 3 teachers the moment I did so. American culture today feels that a piece of silk around one s neck transforms that person from a lazy bum who sits around all day to a sharp, sophisticated guy who knows how to get things done. A tie is essentially a silk noose (a sentiment echoed by unwilling teenagers) that counts as formal wear in today s culture; however, because of American influence and the origin of proto neckties in Western Europe, the act of wearing a tie for white collar work and formal wear has spread beyond America s borders. Colbert, Louis XIV s financial manager, promoted mercantilism, a policy of maintaining a favorable balance of trade in order to accumulate wealth. These mercantilist policies massively boosted France s economy. The French people were to produce everything they needed, exports were increased, and immigration by talented peoples was encouraged. Positively, this approach allowed France to become a competitor in trade. As a result, France surged in power and wealth, giving Louis XIV the ability and money to reform other areas of the government. Furthermore, he boosted industry and production of raw materials. This whole economic sector was underneath the monarchy s control, in order to promote the success Peter the Great saw necessary and fit. Correspondingly, in Prussia, the next Hohenzollern was Frederick the Great, who applied enlightened absolutist ideas to the economy. • 16. Sonny s Blues Analysis Essay It s repulsive to think you have to suffer that much (Baldwin 132). Many would argue that in life, pain outweighs pleasure. Freud contends that although we are unable to reconcile with the truth because it frightens us, each and every one of us has an unconscious desire to die. Death, according to Freud, is the ultimate escape from the sufferings and hardships which define human life and reality. In Sonny s Blues, James Baldwin confronts this dark truth about human nature in his character, Sonny. Sonny s suffering becomes so unbearable that he refuses to accept it as an inevitable condition of the human experience; he refuses to take it : But nobody just takes it, Sonny cried, That s what I m telling you! But the man who creates the music is hearing something else, is dealing with the roar rising from the void and imposing order on it as it hits the air (Baldwin 137). Through his piano, Sonny is able to grasp the chaos within and impose an empirical order on it by translating it into musical notes. Sonny s escape into music then becomes the conscious representation of the unconscious death instinct. By imposing order, Sonny is decreasing his amount of suffering, and therefore moving towards peace and rest. • 24. The Classification Of Water Imagery Present Throughout... Shakespeare is renowned for his vividly descriptive, original, and pioneering use of imagery in many of his plays, but their effect on the audience s understanding of his plays is most obvious in the tragedies, particularly in Macbeth. Images in Shakespeare s works are used, according to Shakespeare critic G. Wilson Knight, to craft a play s atmosphere or the permeating tone or mood of a play (3). However, this attitude between images and atmosphere creates an environment where different definitions of images contribute to different interpretations of the subjective atmosphere that is born out of each individual reader s perception of the play. Because of this discrepancy, a strict definition of the term image should be observed. The term image will refer to physical objects or actions that are used by Shakespeare to clarify broad themes and character insights throughout the play. Specifically, the classification of water imagery present throughout Macbeth will be discussed broadly to include descriptions of rain, water, and the act of cleansing with water, whether or not they are real or imagined by the characters. Shakespeare uses all of these images to create an atmosphere that highlights Macbeth and Lady Macbeth s guilt and their subsequent desire to purify their tainted moralities. In addition to this, Macbeth will be interpreted through the lens of correcting chaos into order. This righting of natural order is brought forth by the rainstorms of the witches to ... Data was collected from the groups of children who were identified with permanent hearing loss through a targeted high risk screening program, a universal newborn hearing screening program, or through a medical referral either with risk factors or without factors. Data on the onset of permanent hearing loss, route to referral, etiology, age at diagnosis, and amplification fitting were all obtained from their medical charts to determine the primary outcomes of language abilities with early identification. Results from the study showed children screened at infancy were diagnosed earlier than those referred with risk factors (Durieux Smith et al., 2008). Children with risk factors, in turn, were diagnosed earlier than referred without risk factors. Although, the age of diagnosis of referred children was seen to improve over time, it remained significantly higher than children receiving screenings. However, this trend of earlier diagnosis may reflect greater awareness of hearing loss. Results from this study indicate UNHS leads therefore earlier diagnosis and to earlier amplification, which then leads to earlier auditory stimulation (Durieux Smith et al., ... They were human beings with thoughts and fears and opinions and troubles. They loved and lied; they died and were (or were not) mourned and forgotten. But first they ... • 38. The Church Of Columbus By Alice Lavern Riles Pastored in 1952 by Alice Lavern Riles, known as Mother Sheppard, The Church of Columbus remains today within the city of Columbus, Georgia. From a tiny building on 49th Street, to the over a million dollar facility today, The Church of Columbus has gone through its share of change. Growing up, the church was called the First United Pentecostal Church, but once the church moved locations, Pastor renamed it The Church of Columbus. Located on 2001 Double Churches Road, there lies my second home, with its grand 36,000 square feet structure. Growing up, I was always at the church, whether it was for practice, or just to play sports such as volleyball and football with my lifelong friends that I had made throughout my attendance at the church. According the church s website, the church has grown from a Sunday morning attendance of sixty one in 1985, to a consistent attendance of over 400 in 2013 (The Church of Columbus). The church s motto is Loving all to Christ . The motto refers to the church s ultimate goal of reaching the 290,000 souls of the Columbus, Phenix City, Fort Benning area (The Church of Columbus). A church member, Lisa Gail Stringer Johnson described the church; The first thing you feel when you walk through the doors is an outpouring of Love and God s presence. I am extremely grateful that I have such a tremendous place to call my second home. Filled with different shades of blue, red, and cream, the church was particularly constructed with careful ... • 39. The Role Of Anger In PTSD The authors of the study looked at the role of anger in PTSD (Lommen, Engelhard, Schoot, Hout, 2014). On average, those diagnosed with PTSD experience more trait anger, anger over time and across a number of situations. Trait anger is also more related to problematic behavior. The study s aim was to find out if trait anger predicts PTSD symptoms even when various vulnerability factors are taken into account. For example, pre trauma neuroticism has been shown to predict levels of PTSD. The authors hypothesized that trait anger before deployment would predict PTSD levels at two months and again at nine months after deployment. The authors also hypothesized that there would be a relationship between trait anger after deployment and PTSD levels ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 40. What Are The Differences Between Formality And Informality Communication rule is governed through social settings, for appropriate responses to communication stimuli. An example in the United States would be a student in class raising his/her hand to ask a teacher a question. In the classroom setting, it s rude to just blurt out a question without being called upon. 2. What are the differences between rules and norms? Rules are expected or intended behaviors and their outcomes with mutual expectations. There are no moral or ethical connotations. Whereas norms are socially shared guidelines for expected and accepted behaviors. 3. How do cultures differ in formality and informality give examples. Cultures can have views regarding events and people that range from extremely informal to very formal. In the U.S. people tend to treat others with informality and directness. They avoid the use of formal codes of conduct, titles, honorifics, and ritualistic manners in their interactions with others. On the other hand, there are many cultures that place a high value on formality. In Egypt, Turkey, Japan, for instance, the student teacher relationship is very formal. In these countries when the teacher enters the room, students will assume a subordinate attitude and in some cases may even stand and bow. Many Americans will call others by their first name, but in other countries such as Germany, calling others by their first name makes them uncomfortable. 4. • 41. Essay on Treatment of Women in Jack Kerouac’s On The Road The Treatment of Women in On The Road The women in Jack Kerouac s On The Road were, it seems, not afforded the same depth in character which the author gave the men. The treatment of the women characters in both word and action by Sal and Dean seems to show that women could only be a virgin/mother figure or a whore. Throughout the novel there are many instances in which women and their feelings or actions are either referred to flippantly or blatantly degraded. It can be said, however, that Sal (Kerouac) did not necessarily agree with this narrow female identity, and there is evidence to support this claim. The novel also shows though that Sal did participate in this male forced female stereotyping whether he ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... So, in consequence, there are many instances of the diminishment of the female identity. These can be seen in the novels treatment of the female characters like Marylou, Sal s Aunt, and Terry. Marylou is repeatedly talked about, not talked to. In the part in which Dean wishes Sal to sleep with Marylou the only dialogue that goes on is either Sal s or Dean s. Marylou has no lines. All she really has is a little go ahead . That is all and that really does not even imply cooperation; only coercion like go ahead and You do Your thing to me . Dean is flippantly wanting Marylou to sleep with his friend with little regard to anything she feels. She is a women, and, what is more to Dean she is a whore so of course she will sleep with Sal. To Sal s credit though he does ask what she wants or thinks from the start but this sudden care seems to arise due to his own nervousness and insecurities not any kind of genuine feeling for Marylou. Her identity as seen through the eyes of men would fall into the whore stereotype of women. This is the exact opposite from Sal s Aunt. The most apparent treatment of Sal s Aunt as something less than an equal comes at the end of part one. Sal has just returned from his first trip west. He is tired. He has been starving for three days now and of course eats everything in the house. Then his Aunt s few extensive lines in the entire novel occur, and in a decidedly motherly fashion she says Poor little Salvatore . She has fulfilled Sal s ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 43. The Absence Of Sound In Danny Boyle s Shallow Grave Just how important is sound to a film, is it more or less important than the actual visuals going on in a scene, or does its importance vary from scene to scene? Could sound make a scene great, but completely ruin another scene with the same kind of style? How does sound make us feel, or think differently as opposed to not having it. Just how powerful is the absence of sound even, the absence of a key element that is used in almost every movie being taken away abruptly can make viewers feel uneasy and impact them more than the most complex score of music, or the best dialogue. • 45. Descriptive Experience Of Fish Version 2: 5 fish, mean fish, dead fish, no fish! I opened the black hatch on the lid of the fish tank. Turning open the lid of the plastic container, I reached inside and took out a pinch of the musty smelling fish food flakes. I sprinkled the flakes over the water in the fish tank and watched as the 5 fish swam up, gulping up the thin copper, crimson, and mahogany colored flakes. I watched until the fish swam away, finished with their meal. I then closed the hatch, put away and closed the jar of fish food, and walked out of my room. Feeding time was over. Just a couple days ago, I had been at Petsmart with my family. The fish tanks at Petsmart were all lined up against the walls, illuminated by blue and violet lights. Each fish tank held fish of all kinds of different shapes, colors, and sizes. My family had bought 5 glimmering fish, a bag of fish care supplies, and when we got home, my mom and dad took the old fish tank we had in our garage, and much to my delight, set it up in my room, on top of a low bookcase. One day, me and my mom both saw something odd in the fish tank.. One of the fish, a huge fish with silver colored scales, was pecking at some of the smaller fish, causing a couple of their scales to fall off and drift around in the water. Me and my sister started calling that fish the, mean fish. Later, I walked in my room to see that the mean fish was now stuck inside a fishbowl! But technically, the fishbowl was actually inside the fish tank, just a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 47. The Consequences Of Blame In Romeo And Juliet Blame is the action of placing fault on someone else s shoulders in order to take responsibility off of ours. People resort to blame because they do not want to own up to the responsibility and the consequences following the fault. The quote, We live in a culture of blame. People will blame anyone or anything for their misery sooner than to take responsibility to own it and make it better, is an excerpt of a book written by psychologists Dr. Henry Cloud and Dr. John Townsend. Blame comes into play during Romeo and Juliet, because the fault of the couple s death rests on the shoulders of King Capulet and Friar Laurence. The Friar s decision to marry Romeo and Juliet is significant, because that is what caused Romeo to aggravate Tybalt, eventually leading into two deaths of royalty. In Romeo and Juliet, although the priest easily could have decided not to marry the two, whom originate from warring sides of a city, marries them anyway. The Friar was fully aware of the inevitable consequences foreshadowed to come. This is illustrated when Romeo pleads to the Friar to marry the pair, to which the priest fiercely denies. Over the course of only a few minutes, the Friar sees an image of God and has the divine inspiration to marry them. This piece of the play creates a ripple effect, in which Romeo emerges from the church in an excited, happy manner, escalating the situation between Mercutio and Tybalt, which then eventually fell into a downward spiral towards Romeo and Juliet s graves. Moreover, the priest s settlement to marry Romeo and Juliet signifies importance, because his loyalty to his overall conclusion to marry them ultimately lead to their deaths. This is expressed in the scene where he provides a solution to Juliet to delay her marriage. As Juliet comes crying to the Friar after everyone in her household has betrayed her, he offers her a solution in which she will sleep for 48 hours. Juliet impulsively agrees and snatches the bottle, quickly thanking him and running home to sleep. By handing her the potion first, the priest sets their graves in stone by not telling Romeo the plan, causing confusion, and ultimately, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
