Thomas Hobbes And John Locke Essay
Hobbes, Locke and the meaning of the English civil war Thomas Hobbes and john Locke are
considered some of the most influential people in Political thought. Both men lived during and around
the time of the English civil war. It can be assumed that this event had a profound effect on each man s
perspective and thinking. Locke and Hobbes do differ on their ideas and beliefs. Hobbes living
through the civil war was a supporter of an absolute monarchy. Locke believed in what can be seen as
a representative democracy. It s clear from this examination of facts that both the ideas Hobbes and
Locke were greatly influential. The ideas set forth by Locke certainly have had a profound influence
on later political thinkers. Locke s beliefs would profoundly shape the views of the American
founding fathers. It can be argued that the United States is a Lockean nation. Both Hobbes and Locke
were strong believers in property rights and believed that government must protect these rights. Using
the English war as a starting point, the beliefs and ideas of Lock and Hobbes can be examined. Some
questions to consider are challenging sovereign power, stability and justice and the effects of the
English civil war. By understanding these ideas, we can better appreciate these perspectives and
thoughts and a better understanding can be reached. The main event that these ideas draw their
influence from is the English Civil war. The English civil war happened between 1642 and 1651. The

Polychlorinated Biphenyls Essay
Introduction: I will expound on my point of view in environmentalist interest group to discuss the
causes and effects of a high convergence of Polychlorinated Biphenyls in the Kalamazoo River and
afterward discuss how to deal with the issue and give my own proposals and concentrate on one to
two of my own recommendations completely.
On July 25, 2010 Enbridge Energy s Alberta tar sands pipeline burst close Marshall, Michigan,
spilling an expected 800,000 gallons of poisonous substantial unrefined petroleum into the Kalamazoo
River. Enbridge s Kalamazoo fiasco was North America s most exceedingly bad and most costly
inland oil spill catastrophe. The Enbridge pipeline that cracked in Michigan conveyed grimy tar sands

Point of View:
The water, soil and air in the range where mechanical spills happen can be required to stay

The Character Analysis Of Shameless As A Dramatic Comedy
Have you ever wanted to watch a dramatic comedy, but could never find the one ? I would highly
recommend Shameless for anyone one who is having trouble finding the one . There are many
television shows that can keep anyone entertained, but Shameless has all the right factors that are
needed to be a great dramatic comedy. Shameless is a good dramatic comedy because the characters
and situations are relatable to real life, the TV show has moral teachings, and it s very suspenseful.
One of the things that makes Shameless such a great dramatic comedy is how the characters and
situations are so relatable to real life. It s important for a TV show to make the audience feel like they
re connected to the characters as they deal with their situations in each episode. There is evidence in
every season that shows the relativity between the characters and real life situations. For example, in
season 6, episode 1; Frank is currently dealing with losing a loved one, while both daughters, Fiona
and Debbie are making decisions about their pregnancy. Fiona begs for her little sister to do adoption
or abortion. Debbie doesn t quite understand how Knue 2 having a child while being fourteen, can ruin
a lot of great opportunities later. Fiona chooses to have an abortion since she cannot make enough
money to support herself or all her siblings. In addition to relatable characters and situations,
Shameless also offers moral teachings. How does a dramatic comedy offer moral teachings?
Shameless provides many examples on how drug and alcohol abuse affects a family home. There is
also evidence on how Shameless provides that. In season 4, episode 5; Fiona celebrates something
good that has happened, but not in a correct way. She decides to buy drugs, and leave them out where
her little brother, Liam, can get his hands on causing him to overdose. Fiona then faces the
consequences on the abuse of drugs, and the toll it can have on a family. Another prime example
would be in season 3, episode 7; Fiona fights for her rights to become legal guardian over her younger
siblings after being taken away from

Oracle Of Delphi To Chaerephon About Socrates
Study Question One: What is the message from the Oracle of Delphi to Chaerephon about Socrates?
Early in Socrates testimony he refers to a witness by the name Chaerephon, he is described as an early
friend of Socrates and to all those present at the trial. It is mentioned that he was exiled; however, he
returned. According to Socrates, Chaerephon acted in a rash manner; thus, Chaerephon boldly asks the
oracle of Delphi whether any man is wiser than Socrates. The Oracle of Delphi, also known as the
Pythian prophetess, responded saying there was no man wiser (Pojman and Vaughn). We then learn
that Chaerephon was dead, but his brother, who was present in court, could testify in support of the
claim.
Study Question Three: How does Socrates ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I think of arrogance as excessive pride or dramatization with one s own achievements. The only
blatant case of arrogance to me is when he proposes maintenance in the Prytaneum to be a just return
(Pojman and Vaughn). Looking more into the Prytaneum, I found this is where victorious Olympic
athletes ate for free; for Socrates to say he deserves free meals for the rest of his life does sound
conceited. This feeling must have been shared by the jury, by comparing the first vote, determining if
he was guilty, to the second vote, which determined his punishment, nearly 80 of those who voted for
him to be not guilty supported the death penalty shortly after he made that remark. It s hard to say if
he was serious though, all we get is a synopsis, his gesticulations could have indicated that he was
trying to lighten up the atmosphere with a joke. Some may consider the anecdote about him finding
out he was the wisest man alive from the God of Delphi to be arrogant; however, he wasn t the one
who seeked the answer, it was his friend Chaerephon. Moreover, he was skeptical to find out that was
the case, so he immediately set out to provide counter evidence to the Oracle. Lastly, emphatically
advocating to reproach those who pretend to know something when they know nothing makes it hard
to say he was arrogant; I see his behavior as a healthy skeptic who was hungry for the truth. The death
penalty was absolutely unnecessary; unfortunately, he had more enemies in the jury than friends. As
history shows unconventional views are generally suppressed by those with a vested interest, those
who brought charges against him along with his other enemies enjoyed the superior social status that
came with inflating one s wisdom, and

Power In Hesiod s Theogony
In Hesiod s Theogony, the Greek family relationships were often a repeated cycle between the
husband, wife and their children. Based on the generations including Ouranos, all the men that came
to rule automatically loathed their child, because they believed their children would take away their
power. Since this behavior was similarly recurring every generation, the women were often forced to
create wicked plans involving their children s rise to power. The cycle of power, deceit and
achievement created by the families in the first generation of Greek mythology became dominant
characteristics that future generations would inherit.
The need for power started with the first generation of gods, Ouranos and Gaia. After Ouranos and
Gaia had children, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

mischievous plan he was eager to do it in order for history not to repeat itself. Zeus believed that if
Metis, his wife gave birth, his offspring would be first the gray eyed girl, Tritogeneia, equal to her

Athanasius s Doctrine Of Arius
When it came time for Athanasius, the deacon, to counterargue Arius s doctrine, he was first met with
discrimination and disrespect due to his position as a deacon. Nonetheless, he began by defending
Christ s divinity. He stated in the council that Christ was not created by God by using the evidence
from the Gospel of Saint John, In the Beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the
Word was God. (John 1:1) By this verse, Athanasius explained that the Word was Jesus Christ, he was
already with the Father from the beginning of time, the only thing that makes him different was that he
was born of the Virgin Saint Mary and have taken part of humanity. Further on, Athanasius quoted
another verse from the Gospel of Saint John that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They voted on whether the council preferred Arius doctrine was correct or Athanasius s doctrine. The
votes were gathered and it was clear that Athanasius s depiction of Christ s divinity and humanity was
the correct doctrine. The council then had to ensure that there wouldn t be another heresy like Arius
again in the Christian Church, so the Council of Nicaea created the Nicaean Creed which emphasizes
Christ s divinity with the Father but with taking part of humanity. The Nicaean Creed was also made
to strengthen the faith of the Christian Church and to always remind the that Jesus has a divinity. The
Nicaean Creed can be found in many of the Orthodox Christian Churches which state, We believe in
one Lord Jesus Christ... light of light, true God of God, begotten not created, with one essence with
the Father, (Schaff, 126). With the Creed being created this eventually lead to the end of the Arius
heresy that almost would have ended the Christian religion. The believers realizes that if per
impossible the Church had not there and then set forth in plainest terms the Catholic Faith as
expressed in the Nicene Creed, the Christian Faith would have perished miserably. (Pope,

The Decline Of The Industrial Revolution
Governments are being overthrown and altered, people are viewing religion in a new way where the
pope is not a pronounced powerful God, and America divided from British regulation and developed
its very own nation. What do all these occurrences have in common with each other? They all ended
up altering the people that existed in the world never really changed the world itself until the 1800s.
During the 1800s the world s employment forces became very enormous, food quantity was constant,
raw resources were assessable, and transportation developed in to a dependable source for roaming to
and from places. These things independently had no effect on the world but when all these things
occur at the same time together simultaneously its influence is so strong that it changed the world and
shaped in to the greatest impactful time in all of history, the Industrial Revolution.
Britain started to see a huge increase in population progression throughout the years of 1750 to 1850
going from a population of roughly six mullion to twenty million individuals.(Judge 610) This
population upsurge caused Britain to improve new agricultural techniques which provided British the
capability to obtain a sustained food supply with fewer farmers. With a smaller amount of people
becoming agriculturalists numerous quantities of people found themself unfortunate and landless. This
required many people to acquire low paid factory jobs in an urban region. With a population increase,

The Role Of Albinism In Sub-Saharan Africa
The relentless pursuit of people with Albinism has been a crisis in sub Saharan Africa for many years.
Albinism is a rare genetic disorder that causes the lack of pigmentation in the skin. This leaves the
person with Albinism in sub Saharan Africa to be a large minority facing harsh, unimaginable
discrimination. The High Commissioner for Human Rights Zeid Ra ad Al Hussein, in the M2
Presswire states that many Albino s are living in abject fear , some no longer dare to go outside, and
children with albinism have stopped attending school (1). The M2 Presswire shows that within just the

An example of this corruption was on full display when a man was mutilated on December 12, 2014,
and 11 people were arrested, but six escaped and one was convicted (Coventry 1). Benjamin in his
article confirms that this is a recurring event in sub Saharan Africa by saying that many suspects have
been arrested for murdering albinos, [but] so far the persons who commissioned the killings (or
offered huge sums for human body parts) have not been arrested (1). He says this is due to the law
enforcement and government being hesitant to go after the perpetrators because this belief in
witchcraft is so extensive (1). Members of the United Nations even acknowledge that with elections
coming up that people with Albinism should be careful due to politicians seeking out Albino body
parts for luck in their election (qtd. In Bever 1). The corruption in sub Saharan Africa is so widespread
that in a United Nations report over crime and development in Africa, Africa was the lowest in
homicide conviction rates, third highest in suffering from corruption, many countries in sub Saharan
Africa placed among the top in being asked to pay bribes, and they have the worst overall global
corruption perception index. With corruption rates as high as sub Saharan Africa and the black market

in a long rivalry for over two decades. Because of its huge research and development cost and a
volatile market demand situation, the large commercial aircraft industry has only a few viable

From the liberal point of view, the FTC and the EC should recognize the Boeing McDonnell Douglas
merger as an international issue, not a national issue, so that it should restrain autonomy of state, in
this case the U.S., preventing from intervention to protect domestic interests. However, in the case of
Boeing Mc Donnell Douglas, both antitrust authorities, specifically the European Commission, acted
in a protectionist manner keeping domestic interests. In a study on 290 proposed acquisitions screened
by the EC during 1990, it was found that although European merger and acquisition regulators claim
to be protecting competition and consumers, in fact, the more harm suffered by European rival firms
when the acquire is coming from the outside the EU, the greater the likelihood of European regulatory
intervention against the proposed merger or acquisition . The EC s focus on competitors rather than
consumers was revealed by this study. There is also the question of national sovereignty. The US
government officials and Boeing executives expressed their view that what authority a European body
would have over a merger between two US companies that did almost all of their manufacturing in the
US and had a few assets in the EU On the one hand, it is reasonable that once the FTC made its

Personal Finance Impact
Personal finance is having a financial ability to make decisions and act on certain activities for
oneself. These decisions and activities can be from budgeting, saving, investing, handling debts and
mortgages, and much more. It is important for each individual to be able to manage their money for
their own future and understand how credit cards work, being able to get out of debt such as student
loans, and to be able to invest and save their finances. Economics has a huge impact on how we spend

Most would stick to the basic 401k retirement plan which would be the extent of their investments.
Saving money is important once income is starting to be earned yet investing money can be a scary
thought but in reality, it is fairly painless. We do not want to be in our forties and realize investing and
saving now will help in the future. Yes, there still will be another 20 years of working but imagine if
we all started at the age of our 20s. There would be an extra 20 years added to our retirement or better
yet, if we were smart with our investments, then we could retire much earlier than expected. Let s say
for instance that we invest about $10 a week with an average 8% percent return. Within a year, we
would have $562. Within 5 years, we would have $3,295. Within 10 years, we would have $8,136. It
is only investing $10 a week but if we were to invest more imagine the outcome for the return.
Investment is one of the most, if not the most, effective way to get rich. 401k retirement plan is the
most common way to retire. Start contributing at the age of 25 to be able to take out money at age of
60. If we were to contribute about $5,000 a year without employer match then it could lead up to close
to million dollars. Yet if the employer was able to match it $1 for $1, then it will come close to 2
million dollars. That is a huge difference and one of the best ways to retire. Only

MAD and Boomerst throughout the Cold War
In the aftermath of World War II, tensions heightened between the two dominant powers: America and
the USSR. The differences between the ideologies of the communist USSR and the capitalist United
States led to a rapid deterioration in relations. The era between 1945, which marked the end of World
War II, to 1991, when the Soviet Union dissolved, became known as the Cold War due to the fact that
despite the lack of large scale conflict, both sides still feared a nuclear holocaust. Both the United
States and the Soviet Union followed the military strategy of mutually assured destruction (MAD),
meaning that neither side was willing to risk first attack lest the other nation retaliate massively . The
fundamental tenet behind MAD that enabled it to serve as an effective deterrent was the idea of
secondary strike capability. In essence, it was the ability of a nation to launch a counterattack and
thereby ensure mutual destruction. Submarine launched ballistic missiles (SLBMs) fulfilled this
criteria admirably due to their ability to stay submerged for extended periods of time, the difficulty
involved with locating a submarine, and their invulnerability to nuclear missile attacks when
submerged. As a result, the United States attempted to corner this leg of the nuclear triad. In 1949, the
United States signed the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) with the United Kingdom,
France, Canada, and other capitalist states . Through this treaty, the countries agreed to defend each

Closed-System Perspective
Initial Discussion Post
NURS6053 N 20
Week #2 In the ever changing healthcare field, organizations must be willing to adapt and make
changes when necessary. Patient centered care is of utmost importance in today?s healthcare
landscape. Therefore, management must not view change as a threat, but as a challenge to do
something new and innovative (Marquis, B., Huston, C., 2015).
Problem
My hospital is receiving a lot of negative feedback from patient surveys. The reason for this (I think)
is because we are unable to maintain an adequate number of qualified nursing assistants (NA) in the
medical surgical unit. NAs provide much of the ?hands on? care to patients and are a major asset to
nurses. Without NAs, nurses would not be able to provide adequate, quality care to patients.
Unfortunately, they are taken for granted at my hospital and given an unrealistic patient load.
Therefore, there is a lack of NAs and a high turnover rate.
Closed System Perspective Closed systems view the situation from an only internal ... Show more

If the hospital has an appropriate amount of NAs the patient care will improve, therefore, the surveys
will be positive. Applying an open system perspective and acknowledging outside contributors to
internal change will ultimately make the facility a desirable place for both patients and employees.

Notes On Loss And Loss
Loss is one of the most common experience that each of us share with all of mankind, no matter our
age, where we live, what we do. Yet when severe loss occurs in anyone lives most of us feels awful
and have no idea how to bring about our painful emotions and continue with our day to day lives
(Wyatt, 2010).
Loss is the experience of parting with object, person, belief, or relationship that one values.
Losses are come across daily by everyone.
Losses can be minor or major.
The influence of loss depends upon the value the person placed on what was lost.
There are two type of losses,
1. Tangible (Actual or physical): They are actual and easily acknowledged for e.g. Death, loss of body
part, changes in physical health.
2. Intangible (perceived or psychological) losses are less obvious and may be tied to personal opinion
such as one s prestige, power, dreams, plans, security etc.
Grief is the process of psychological or physiological response a person experience after a loss of
valued person, object, belief or relationship.
Losses leads to mourning the period of time during which the grief is articulated.
Bereavement is the period of grief following the death of the loved one.
Everyone experiences grief as an individual and its impact depend upon the individual past
experiences with loss, their culture, their coping skill, belief system, faith and life experiences.
Normal grief response to loss:
Immediate response following death is probably shock, numbness and

Orthodoxy is under the Christian umbrella and the members of this religion meet in a church that it is

This decentralized method of systems and document management has hampered interoperability
between locations, making it difficult to share documents and services efficiently.
Simple Getaways, Inc. legacy administrative and human resources process is another challenge
currently affecting the organization. Administrative tasks such as vacation approvals, employee leave,
address information, tax forms, etc. are currently handled through a paper forms process and stored in

Current: Sharing of documents between staff at various locations is currently accomplished by
emailing the documents between offices, editing the document, and returning the edited version to the

My Hybrid Classroom Management Plan
My hybrid classroom management plan that combines the Canter and Canter Assertive discipline style
and Dreikur s Democratic Teaching and Management procedures allows me to incorporate the
students opinions and ideas into the classroom rules and procedures. This allows for a sense of
community and shared responsibility between both myself and the students to insure that the rules are
being met. By allowing the student to have a say in how the classroom will run day to day makes them
feel like they have a place and a value in the classroom. It is also important that I foster a sense of
fairness by upholding the agreed upon rules without any bias so that the student know what to expect
when rules and procedures are either followed or not. This helps the students feel supported in the
classroom as well as nurtures a safe and inclusive learning environment. Throughout the last two field
experiences my favorite part has been getting to know each of the students in the classrooms. By the
end of the semester it became very hard to leave them because I had gotten attached and want to
continue to watch them grow. I have a feeling that having my own set of students that I will work with
every day over the course of a year will make it even hard to let go. I love just talking with my

Overburdening Poin Sports
In Detroit, a youth soccer coach named Marilyn Enmark has seen enough of parents overburdening
their children. In 2004, one of Enmark s players on the youth soccer team she coaches, a seven year

Environmental Ethics And Its Impact On The Environment
ntroduction and Thesis
Environmental ethics is a branch of philosophy that examines human relationships to, and the ways
they interact with, the environment. When it was noticed, that the increasing world population was
negatively impacting the environment, as well as the use of pesticides, technology and
industrialization, environmental ethics emerged as a field of study. Environmental ethics takes into
consideration the value and moral standing of the environment and its non human entities. It focuses
on the value humans place on nature and defines their moral and ethical obligations to it, and there
place in it.
Moral standing is when value is placed on certain things and this value is used to determine if
something is morally acceptable or not. Humans have moral standing when they do something for the
individuals sake and not for their or someone else benefit. There are different ethical approaches that
focus on the morality (right or wrong) of human behavior and their impact on the environment, and
this paper covers five that will argue for the best suited to resolve environmental issues. This paper
argues that Ecocentric Ethics is the best approach to environmental ethics.
Explanation of Views
This section examines the theories of Immanuel Kant, Tom Regan, Peter Singer, Paul Taylor, Aldo
Leopold, and Arne Naess. These philosophers have different approaches to environmental ethics, and
this paper discusses what constitutes moral standing, who or what deserves it,

Summary Of Melquades In One Hundred Years Of Solitude
A person is shaped by where he or she comes from. It affects who the person is and how the person
interacts with others. In One Hundred Years of Solitude by Gabriel García Marquez, the mysterious
origins of the gypsy Melquíades largely impacts his character and relationships. Unlike the Buendia
family, it is unknown where Melquíades originated. His mysterious origins reflect his supernatural and
magical characteristics, contributing to the novel s magic realism.
In the beginning of the novel, since the first page, the readers are introduced to Melquíades as a gypsy
who brings mysterious inventions and magical items to the village of Macondo. A heavy gypsy with
an untamed beard and sparrow hands, who introduced himself as Melquíades, put on bold public
demonstration of what he himself called the eighth wonder of the learned alchemist of Macedonia
(Marquez 1). This description is the only piece of information pertaining to Melquíades character the
readers receive when introduced to him, leading the readers to wonder where he came from and the
obscurity of his origins. His origins are unknown and enigmatic even though he is most important
character besides the Buendia family. As the readers progresses through the novel, they learn more of
his mysterious origins and of the magical inventions he brings to Macondo, shaping Melquíades as a
person of magical origins which allows him to perform magic. For example, to the readers,
Melquíades distorts fantasy and reality with magic because he brings new inventions and items, such
as a magnet, ice, and a magic carpet, fascinating the people of Macondo with what he brings. The
magic carpet furthers the idea of his magical origin; if he has a magical item in his possession, he must
be of magical origins to be able obtain and control such item. In addition, tales of his adventure
throughout the world present Melquíades as a person of magic and wisdom, having his immense
wisdom and his mysterious breadth (6). He had traveled all over the world, miraculously surviving
from all the plagues and disasters he encountered. His character is further influenced by his
mysterious origins when Melquíades returns to Macondo young and fit in contrast to his elderly
appearance the

Analysis Of The Address By Livia Bitton Jackson
I have read several books, poems, and memoirs on WWII and the Holocaust. Diary of Anne Frank,
The Boy in the Striped Pajamas, I have Lived a Thousand Years, the list goes on and on. Interestingly,
all of the written works I have read only ever talked about what happened during those events, never
after. It seems that majority of authors skip that part. Why? I do not know. Perhaps they think it will
bore readers because it is not as dramatic. Marga Minco, on the other hand, approaches the subject of
what happens after millions of people are killed in an attempted genocide and a horrible war in her
short story, The Address. While The Address may not be as dramatic as I have Lived a Thousand Years
by Livia Bitton Jackson because it does not take place inside the concentration camp, it certainly
leaves readers thinking about the tragedies that took place around that time period. Writing in an
emotionless style shows how these events affected and changed the narrator. The narrator does not
even recognise her own voice and describes it as strange and unnatural . She speaks in a monotone
fashion when the past is brought up because she is not sure how to handle it emotionally. ... Show

The address the narrator is given and her old possessions left there represent her memories. When she
says that after the liberation I felt no interest at all in that stored stuff she is actually saying that after
she was liberated she did not want to think about the past. Later Minco uses imagery to describe the
narrator s fear of the past by describing them as things that had been stored in cases and boxes and
were waiting in vain until they would be put back in their places. Her memories want to be
remembered, she wants to remember the past, but it hurts to think about things that had been part of a
bond that no longer

Arabian Nights Essay
ouUnpopular yet magical and organized film The title of the fantasy adventure film is Arabian Nights.
It was released on the 30th of april in the year 2000. It was directed by a British director, Steve
Barron. He is the same director of the movies Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (1990), The Adventures
of Pinocchio (1996) and other fantastic movies. The movie was produced by 6 producers. Namely,
Peter Barnes, Howard , Robert H and . There are 2 main characters in the film. Avital is charming as
Scheherezade and Dougray Scott is amazing as Sultan Shahryar. And the rest of the supporting actors
did a great job in portraying their characters in the film. The 3 hour long movie showed different kinds
of fantastic stories and lesson. Set in Baghdad at an undetermined time, the story begins when

It will let you ride in an emotional rollercoaster because it will touch your heart, make you laugh,
make you think and more! I ll definitely recommend everyone to watch this film. It s because it is
suitable for all ages. One thing that I think viewers won t appreciate in the film is that its way too long
and it s hard to catch up with the movie. For a busy person who doesn t have enough free time, it s
going to be hard for them to watch a 175 minute long movie. But still, this film isn t just for your past
time because you will learn lessons that are applicable in real life. You just have to look for it deeper
or understand the movie even more. Also, another thing that is not good in this movie is that I had a
hard time understanding their dialogues because of their accent and the sound isn t that loud. And
lastly, it is really worth watching because it s not a common kind of film for us living in the 21st
century so it ll really make you step out of your comfort zone and appreciate the old kinds of film like

The Acquisition, Development And Use Of Language
The acquisition, development and use of language is universal. It is pivotal in being able to
communicate between others and is seen and heard in all cultures and countries. The notion that
language is seen is undeniable, for example; language is seen in printed format such as
advertisements, books, letters and lyrics. Printed language comprises of numbers, letters, symbols and
pictures and can together or separately tell a story or communicate a message. Furthermore, language
is observed through gestures, body language, dance, moving images and sign language. Audible
language consists of spoken words; singing, whistling, morse code, music and movies. All modes of
language assist in the delivery of meaningful information (Anstey Bull, 2006). Language is extremely
diverse, with over 7,097 known languages spoken throughout the world. English is spoken by
approximately 340 million people and is one of the world s most common languages (SIL
International, 2016). Over 230 countries are represented, 300 languages spoken and more than 100
religions practiced in Australia alone (Department of Immigration and Citizenship, 2008). Throughout
the world, there will be standardised forms of each language, which differ in grammar and
pronunciation from language that may be used in the home or other social settings. Standard language
is commonly used in government and educational discourses. This report will endeavour to display
how the above mentioned factors of language play a role in

Religious Experiences are in the Mind of the Believer Essays
Religious Experiences are in the Mind of the Believer
A religious experience is a spontaneous or induced mental event over which the
recipient has relatively little control. It is often accompanied with the gaining of
certain knowledge and the experience is always unique. [1] Elton Trueblood s
definition of a religious experience is very broad, including any experience of feelings
of love, power, glory or strength from God. This differs from a simple experience
which can be defined as an event or series of events participated in or lived through,
especially one that makes a powerful impression on the mind and sense. [2]
It is obvious that religious experiences ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When people try to describe an experience
of God they tend to make comparisons which raises problems philosophically, and
many argue that the analogies have weaknesses.
The definitions of mystical experience used by researchers and clinicians vary
considerably, ranging from Neumann s (1964) upheaval of the total personality to
Greesley s (1974) spiritual force that seems to lift you out of yourself to
Scharfstein s (1973) everyday mysticism. William James created four
characteristics which he believed will enable people to identify mystical experiences,
a term that is used in a vast variety of contexts. These include ineffability, noetic
quality, transciency and passivity. From James four characteristics, mystical
experiences are concerned with noetic quality and transciency. Noetic quality refers
to knowledge that is gained through intuition and perception however not in the
conventional manner, whilst transciency refers to the duration of the experience; it
appears that most religious experiences last between a few minutes and two hours.
However the effect and the significance are out of proportion to its physical duration.
The fact they can last up to several

To Kill A Mockingbird Essay On Injustice And Injustice
The Power of One With the looming threat of global warming, overpopulation, and world war III we
do not often find ourselves in a position to change the world around us. But what do we do when the
situation presents itself? What is our response to injustice? Sometimes nothing. In first world countries
it is easy to discuss an issue without taking action because people often feel too minimal to make an
impact. However, history shows some of the largest social and political movements were sparked by
the actions of a single individual with the audacity to stand up. The truth is power in the hands of an
individual has the magnitude to create equal amounts of good as it does bad, but the power for change
does not only lie in the hands of powerful, it can be found in the hearts of any individual, no matter
their status or origin. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

  • 2. Thomas Hobbes And John Locke Essay Hobbes, Locke and the meaning of the English civil war Thomas Hobbes and john Locke are considered some of the most influential people in Political thought. Both men lived during and around the time of the English civil war. It can be assumed that this event had a profound effect on each man s perspective and thinking. Locke and Hobbes do differ on their ideas and beliefs. Hobbes living through the civil war was a supporter of an absolute monarchy. Locke believed in what can be seen as a representative democracy. It s clear from this examination of facts that both the ideas Hobbes and Locke were greatly influential. The ideas set forth by Locke certainly have had a profound influence on later political thinkers. Locke s beliefs would profoundly shape the views of the American founding fathers. It can be argued that the United States is a Lockean nation. Both Hobbes and Locke were strong believers in property rights and believed that government must protect these rights. Using the English war as a starting point, the beliefs and ideas of Lock and Hobbes can be examined. Some questions to consider are challenging sovereign power, stability and justice and the effects of the English civil war. By understanding these ideas, we can better appreciate these perspectives and thoughts and a better understanding can be reached. The main event that these ideas draw their influence from is the English Civil war. The English civil war happened between 1642 and 1651. The two ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Polychlorinated Biphenyls Essay Introduction: I will expound on my point of view in environmentalist interest group to discuss the causes and effects of a high convergence of Polychlorinated Biphenyls in the Kalamazoo River and afterward discuss how to deal with the issue and give my own proposals and concentrate on one to two of my own recommendations completely. On July 25, 2010 Enbridge Energy s Alberta tar sands pipeline burst close Marshall, Michigan, spilling an expected 800,000 gallons of poisonous substantial unrefined petroleum into the Kalamazoo River. Enbridge s Kalamazoo fiasco was North America s most exceedingly bad and most costly inland oil spill catastrophe. The Enbridge pipeline that cracked in Michigan conveyed grimy tar sands oil from Ontario. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... ( Hartig 1998) Emphasize that the contamination of any water or soil asset from critical measures of chemicals, particularly oil and poisonous metals, regardless of whether the asset is an aquifer, a waterway, a lowland, a wild rice bed or a lake, despite what is said in the purposeful publicity battles that are slyly created from the blameworthy mining, vitality or oil organizations whose defective innovation can be capable. Oil based commodities and overwhelming metals are both equipped for gliding on, blending with or sinking underneath the water therefore streaming a long way past the mouth of the stream, connecting to the shoreline or potentially sinking into the slop at the base. Point of View: The water, soil and air in the range where mechanical spills happen can be required to stay contaminated always, similarly as the dangerous metals found in coal powder tailings lakes and coal let go plants can decimate groups as their lethal ooze and smoke harm the downstream and downwind condition. There are few places on earth that are not downwind or downstream from some dangerous industry. Rustic, non horticultural, northern Minnesota is relatively sheltered, yet it may not be for long. • 4. The Character Analysis Of Shameless As A Dramatic Comedy Have you ever wanted to watch a dramatic comedy, but could never find the one ? I would highly recommend Shameless for anyone one who is having trouble finding the one . There are many television shows that can keep anyone entertained, but Shameless has all the right factors that are needed to be a great dramatic comedy. Shameless is a good dramatic comedy because the characters and situations are relatable to real life, the TV show has moral teachings, and it s very suspenseful. One of the things that makes Shameless such a great dramatic comedy is how the characters and situations are so relatable to real life. It s important for a TV show to make the audience feel like they re connected to the characters as they deal with their situations in each episode. There is evidence in every season that shows the relativity between the characters and real life situations. For example, in season 6, episode 1; Frank is currently dealing with losing a loved one, while both daughters, Fiona and Debbie are making decisions about their pregnancy. Fiona begs for her little sister to do adoption or abortion. Debbie doesn t quite understand how Knue 2 having a child while being fourteen, can ruin a lot of great opportunities later. Fiona chooses to have an abortion since she cannot make enough money to support herself or all her siblings. In addition to relatable characters and situations, Shameless also offers moral teachings. How does a dramatic comedy offer moral teachings? Shameless provides many examples on how drug and alcohol abuse affects a family home. There is also evidence on how Shameless provides that. In season 4, episode 5; Fiona celebrates something good that has happened, but not in a correct way. She decides to buy drugs, and leave them out where her little brother, Liam, can get his hands on causing him to overdose. Fiona then faces the consequences on the abuse of drugs, and the toll it can have on a family. Another prime example would be in season 3, episode 7; Fiona fights for her rights to become legal guardian over her younger siblings after being taken away from ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Oracle Of Delphi To Chaerephon About Socrates Study Question One: What is the message from the Oracle of Delphi to Chaerephon about Socrates? Early in Socrates testimony he refers to a witness by the name Chaerephon, he is described as an early friend of Socrates and to all those present at the trial. It is mentioned that he was exiled; however, he returned. According to Socrates, Chaerephon acted in a rash manner; thus, Chaerephon boldly asks the oracle of Delphi whether any man is wiser than Socrates. The Oracle of Delphi, also known as the Pythian prophetess, responded saying there was no man wiser (Pojman and Vaughn). We then learn that Chaerephon was dead, but his brother, who was present in court, could testify in support of the claim. Study Question Three: How does Socrates ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I think of arrogance as excessive pride or dramatization with one s own achievements. The only blatant case of arrogance to me is when he proposes maintenance in the Prytaneum to be a just return (Pojman and Vaughn). Looking more into the Prytaneum, I found this is where victorious Olympic athletes ate for free; for Socrates to say he deserves free meals for the rest of his life does sound conceited. This feeling must have been shared by the jury, by comparing the first vote, determining if he was guilty, to the second vote, which determined his punishment, nearly 80 of those who voted for him to be not guilty supported the death penalty shortly after he made that remark. It s hard to say if he was serious though, all we get is a synopsis, his gesticulations could have indicated that he was trying to lighten up the atmosphere with a joke. Some may consider the anecdote about him finding out he was the wisest man alive from the God of Delphi to be arrogant; however, he wasn t the one who seeked the answer, it was his friend Chaerephon. Moreover, he was skeptical to find out that was the case, so he immediately set out to provide counter evidence to the Oracle. Lastly, emphatically advocating to reproach those who pretend to know something when they know nothing makes it hard to say he was arrogant; I see his behavior as a healthy skeptic who was hungry for the truth. The death penalty was absolutely unnecessary; unfortunately, he had more enemies in the jury than friends. As history shows unconventional views are generally suppressed by those with a vested interest, those who brought charges against him along with his other enemies enjoyed the superior social status that came with inflating one s wisdom, and ... • 6. Power In Hesiod s Theogony In Hesiod s Theogony, the Greek family relationships were often a repeated cycle between the husband, wife and their children. Based on the generations including Ouranos, all the men that came to rule automatically loathed their child, because they believed their children would take away their power. Since this behavior was similarly recurring every generation, the women were often forced to create wicked plans involving their children s rise to power. The cycle of power, deceit and achievement created by the families in the first generation of Greek mythology became dominant characteristics that future generations would inherit. The need for power started with the first generation of gods, Ouranos and Gaia. After Ouranos and Gaia had children, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Even though he didn t grow up around his father, Cronos, Zeus inherited a lot of the same instincts and anxiety. As generations continued, Zeus had learned from mistakes of the previous generations. Therefore, he began to get smarter with his power. When Gaia told her grandson Zeus of this mischievous plan he was eager to do it in order for history not to repeat itself. Zeus believed that if Metis, his wife gave birth, his offspring would be first the gray eyed girl, Tritogeneia, equal to her father in strength and wisdom, but then a son with an arrogant heart who would one day be king of gods and men, but Zeus stuffed the goddess into his stomach first so she would devise with him good and evil (156). • 7. Athanasius s Doctrine Of Arius When it came time for Athanasius, the deacon, to counterargue Arius s doctrine, he was first met with discrimination and disrespect due to his position as a deacon. Nonetheless, he began by defending Christ s divinity. He stated in the council that Christ was not created by God by using the evidence from the Gospel of Saint John, In the Beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. (John 1:1) By this verse, Athanasius explained that the Word was Jesus Christ, he was already with the Father from the beginning of time, the only thing that makes him different was that he was born of the Virgin Saint Mary and have taken part of humanity. Further on, Athanasius quoted another verse from the Gospel of Saint John that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They voted on whether the council preferred Arius doctrine was correct or Athanasius s doctrine. The votes were gathered and it was clear that Athanasius s depiction of Christ s divinity and humanity was the correct doctrine. The council then had to ensure that there wouldn t be another heresy like Arius again in the Christian Church, so the Council of Nicaea created the Nicaean Creed which emphasizes Christ s divinity with the Father but with taking part of humanity. The Nicaean Creed was also made to strengthen the faith of the Christian Church and to always remind the that Jesus has a divinity. The Nicaean Creed can be found in many of the Orthodox Christian Churches which state, We believe in one Lord Jesus Christ... light of light, true God of God, begotten not created, with one essence with the Father, (Schaff, 126). With the Creed being created this eventually lead to the end of the Arius heresy that almost would have ended the Christian religion. The believers realizes that if per impossible the Church had not there and then set forth in plainest terms the Catholic Faith as expressed in the Nicene Creed, the Christian Faith would have perished miserably. • 8. The Decline Of The Industrial Revolution Governments are being overthrown and altered, people are viewing religion in a new way where the pope is not a pronounced powerful God, and America divided from British regulation and developed its very own nation. What do all these occurrences have in common with each other? They all ended up altering the people that existed in the world never really changed the world itself until the 1800s. During the 1800s the world s employment forces became very enormous, food quantity was constant, raw resources were assessable, and transportation developed in to a dependable source for roaming to and from places. These things independently had no effect on the world but when all these things occur at the same time together simultaneously its influence is so strong that it changed the world and shaped in to the greatest impactful time in all of history, the Industrial Revolution. Britain started to see a huge increase in population progression throughout the years of 1750 to 1850 going from a population of roughly six mullion to twenty million individuals.(Judge 610) This population upsurge caused Britain to improve new agricultural techniques which provided British the capability to obtain a sustained food supply with fewer farmers. With a smaller amount of people becoming agriculturalists numerous quantities of people found themself unfortunate and landless. This required many people to acquire low paid factory jobs in an urban region. With a population increase, people being forced ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Albinism is a rare genetic disorder that causes the lack of pigmentation in the skin. This leaves the person with Albinism in sub Saharan Africa to be a large minority facing harsh, unimaginable discrimination. The High Commissioner for Human Rights Zeid Ra ad Al Hussein, in the M2 Presswire states that many Albino s are living in abject fear , some no longer dare to go outside, and children with albinism have stopped attending school (1). An example of this corruption was on full display when a man was mutilated on December 12, 2014, and 11 people were arrested, but six escaped and one was convicted (Coventry 1). Benjamin in his article confirms that this is a recurring event in sub Saharan Africa by saying that many suspects have been arrested for murdering albinos, [but] so far the persons who commissioned the killings (or offered huge sums for human body parts) have not been arrested (1). He says this is due to the law enforcement and government being hesitant to go after the perpetrators because this belief in witchcraft is so extensive (1). Members of the United Nations even acknowledge that with elections coming up that people with Albinism should be careful due to politicians seeking out Albino body parts for luck in their election (qtd. In Bever 1). The corruption in sub Saharan Africa is so widespread that in a United Nations report over crime and development in Africa, Africa was the lowest in homicide conviction rates, third highest in suffering from corruption, many countries in sub Saharan Africa placed among the top in being asked to pay bribes, and they have the worst overall global corruption perception index. • 10. The Boing and Mcdonnell Douglas Merger Case Study Case Study: Boeing versus Airbus: Two Decades of Trade Disputes The Boeing McDonnell Douglas Merger As the two largest producers in the commercial aircraft industry, Boeing and Airbus have been in a long rivalry for over two decades. Because of its huge research and development cost and a volatile market demand situation, the large commercial aircraft industry has only a few viable producers that can successfully operate in this industry. At the end of 1996, there were three competitors in the industry Airbus, Boeing, and McDonnell Douglas (MDC). When Boeing announced in December 1996 the merger between Boeing and McDonnell Douglas, the dispute has again started between Boeing and Airbus. The merger was expected to go under ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... From the liberal point of view, the FTC and the EC should recognize the Boeing McDonnell Douglas merger as an international issue, not a national issue, so that it should restrain autonomy of state, in this case the U.S., preventing from intervention to protect domestic interests. However, in the case of Boeing Mc Donnell Douglas, both antitrust authorities, specifically the European Commission, acted in a protectionist manner keeping domestic interests. In a study on 290 proposed acquisitions screened by the EC during 1990, it was found that although European merger and acquisition regulators claim to be protecting competition and consumers, in fact, the more harm suffered by European rival firms when the acquire is coming from the outside the EU, the greater the likelihood of European regulatory intervention against the proposed merger or acquisition . The EC s focus on competitors rather than consumers was revealed by this study. There is also the question of national sovereignty. The US government officials and Boeing executives expressed their view that what authority a European body would have over a merger between two US companies that did almost all of their manufacturing in the US and had a few assets in the EU On the one hand, it is reasonable that once the FTC made its decision on the ... These decisions and activities can be from budgeting, saving, investing, handling debts and mortgages, and much more. It is important for each individual to be able to manage their money for their own future and understand how credit cards work, being able to get out of debt such as student loans, and to be able to invest and save their finances. Saving money is important once income is starting to be earned yet investing money can be a scary thought but in reality, it is fairly painless. We do not want to be in our forties and realize investing and saving now will help in the future. Yes, there still will be another 20 years of working but imagine if we all started at the age of our 20s. There would be an extra 20 years added to our retirement or better yet, if we were smart with our investments, then we could retire much earlier than expected. Let s say for instance that we invest about $10 a week with an average 8% percent return. Within a year, we would have $562. Within 5 years, we would have $3,295. Within 10 years, we would have $8,136. It is only investing $10 a week but if we were to invest more imagine the outcome for the return. Investment is one of the most, if not the most, effective way to get rich. 401k retirement plan is the most common way to retire. Start contributing at the age of 25 to be able to take out money at age of 60. If we were to contribute about $5,000 a year without employer match then it could lead up to close to million dollars. Yet if the employer was able to match it $1 for $1, then it will come close to 2 million dollars. That is a huge difference and one of the best ways to retire. Only ... • 13. MAD and Boomerst throughout the Cold War In the aftermath of World War II, tensions heightened between the two dominant powers: America and the USSR. The differences between the ideologies of the communist USSR and the capitalist United States led to a rapid deterioration in relations. The era between 1945, which marked the end of World War II, to 1991, when the Soviet Union dissolved, became known as the Cold War due to the fact that despite the lack of large scale conflict, both sides still feared a nuclear holocaust. Both the United States and the Soviet Union followed the military strategy of mutually assured destruction (MAD), meaning that neither side was willing to risk first attack lest the other nation retaliate massively . The fundamental tenet behind MAD that enabled it to serve as an effective deterrent was the idea of secondary strike capability. In essence, it was the ability of a nation to launch a counterattack and thereby ensure mutual destruction. Submarine launched ballistic missiles (SLBMs) fulfilled this criteria admirably due to their ability to stay submerged for extended periods of time, the difficulty involved with locating a submarine, and their invulnerability to nuclear missile attacks when submerged. As a result, the United States attempted to corner this leg of the nuclear triad. In 1949, the United States signed the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) with the United Kingdom, France, Canada, and other capitalist states . Patient centered care is of utmost importance in today?s healthcare landscape. Therefore, management must not view change as a threat, but as a challenge to do something new and innovative (Marquis, B., Huston, C., 2015). The reason for this (I think) is because we are unable to maintain an adequate number of qualified nursing assistants (NA) in the medical surgical unit. NAs provide much of the ?hands on? care to patients and are a major asset to nurses. Without NAs, nurses would not be able to provide adequate, quality care to patients. Environmental Ethics And Its Impact On The Environment ntroduction and Thesis Environmental ethics is a branch of philosophy that examines human relationships to, and the ways they interact with, the environment. When it was noticed, that the increasing world population was negatively impacting the environment, as well as the use of pesticides, technology and industrialization, environmental ethics emerged as a field of study. Environmental ethics takes into consideration the value and moral standing of the environment and its non human entities. It focuses on the value humans place on nature and defines their moral and ethical obligations to it, and there place in it. Moral standing is when value is placed on certain things and this value is used to determine if something is morally acceptable or not. Humans have moral standing when they do something for the individuals sake and not for their or someone else benefit. There are different ethical approaches that focus on the morality (right or wrong) of human behavior and their impact on the environment, and this paper covers five that will argue for the best suited to resolve environmental issues. • 24. Summary Of Melquades In One Hundred Years Of Solitude A person is shaped by where he or she comes from. It affects who the person is and how the person interacts with others. In One Hundred Years of Solitude by Gabriel García Marquez, the mysterious origins of the gypsy Melquíades largely impacts his character and relationships. Unlike the Buendia family, it is unknown where Melquíades originated. His mysterious origins reflect his supernatural and magical characteristics, contributing to the novel s magic realism. In the beginning of the novel, since the first page, the readers are introduced to Melquíades as a gypsy who brings mysterious inventions and magical items to the village of Macondo. A heavy gypsy with an untamed beard and sparrow hands, who introduced himself as Melquíades, put on bold public demonstration of what he himself called the eighth wonder of the learned alchemist of Macedonia (Marquez 1). This description is the only piece of information pertaining to Melquíades character the readers receive when introduced to him, leading the readers to wonder where he came from and the obscurity of his origins. His origins are unknown and enigmatic even though he is most important character besides the Buendia family. As the readers progresses through the novel, they learn more of his mysterious origins and of the magical inventions he brings to Macondo, shaping Melquíades as a person of magical origins which allows him to perform magic. For example, to the readers, Melquíades distorts fantasy and reality with magic because he brings new inventions and items, such as a magnet, ice, and a magic carpet, fascinating the people of Macondo with what he brings. The magic carpet furthers the idea of his magical origin; if he has a magical item in his possession, he must be of magical origins to be able obtain and control such item. In addition, tales of his adventure throughout the world present Melquíades as a person of magic and wisdom, having his immense wisdom and his mysterious breadth (6). He had traveled all over the world, miraculously surviving from all the plagues and disasters he encountered. His character is further influenced by his mysterious origins when Melquíades returns to Macondo young and fit in contrast to his elderly appearance the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Diary of Anne Frank, The Boy in the Striped Pajamas, I have Lived a Thousand Years, the list goes on and on. Interestingly, all of the written works I have read only ever talked about what happened during those events, never after. It seems that majority of authors skip that part. Why? I do not know. Perhaps they think it will bore readers because it is not as dramatic. Marga Minco, on the other hand, approaches the subject of what happens after millions of people are killed in an attempted genocide and a horrible war in her short story, The Address. While The Address may not be as dramatic as I have Lived a Thousand Years by Livia Bitton Jackson because it does not take place inside the concentration camp, it certainly leaves readers thinking about the tragedies that took place around that time period.
