Social Media s Role In Presidential Campaigns
Social media websites have been gaining popularity and record amounts of users since the early
2000s, but in recent years social media has started to have an important role in presidential campaigns.
Barack Obama, president of the United States from 2009 to 2017, is regarded as the first social media
president and since his time in office, the use of social media has only continued to expand. The use of
websites such as Twitter, Facebook, and YouTube have become key components in the election of the
president and their time in office. This importance can particularly be seen by examining the most
recent presidential election in 2016. The 2016 campaign season, election, and subsequent presidency
of Republican candidate, Donald Trump, are largely considered to be unlike any other in the history of
America. Unlike campaigns in the past, every detail of the 2016 process was shared online. Not only
did the public use ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
During the 2016 campaign season, Donald Trump s frequently uttered phrase fake news made the
headlines week after week and continues to be discussed well into his presidency. Fake news is
defined by Hunt Allcott and Matthew Gentzkow as news articles that are intentionally and verifiably
false, and could mislead readers. Facebook, in particular, had a significant issue with the spread of
fake news reports and articles during the 2016 election. An increasing number of residents in the
United States are creating social media accounts and turning to these websites for quick access to
political knowledge and social media companies are struggling to slow the spread of fake news.
Managing the rise of online false stories is a problem never encountered before in presidential
elections and is likely to remain an issue in future

Kristen Stewart On Gay Marriage Analysis
We are beings of an era where gay marriage, gay concentration camps, president trump, the blazing
gayness of Kristen Stewart and section 377 exists in our very own beloved nation, at the same time
akin to a truly disastrous game of Chinese whisper at an awful party
(whothefuckplayschinesewhisperanymore) after which we all return to their homes resigned to the
realisation that this is the strangest timeline of them all.
Regardless, we as queer humans of this rather disorienting generation have much to be grateful for
because we simple don t know how to stop all the gay from showing everywhere and more and more
of our fellow beings have made peace with the fact that Kristen Stewart has set her eyes on the vast
and very gay dating pool that Hollywood has to offer whilst her rolled up denims and vans effectively
raises the middlefinger in a Tarantinoesqe effect to the high school bitchfest of the tabloids.
And so I approach closer and closer to the true loci of this article i.e. the elusive unicorn that is lesbian
style. Because we all could sense with our gaydars the gay that was Kristen Stewart and we have been
rewarded for our great faith with irreversible evidence to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Quoting Paraphrasing Vs Summarizing
What is the difference between quoting, paraphrasing, and summarizing?
What type of citation is required for each? Why is properly citing sources important?
What are the possible consequences of improperly citing references?
In most writing the content and ideas are not always your own.
There for it is important to give credit to the original source of your writing.
You can do this by quoting, paraphrasing or summarizing the original text in which you obtained the
ideas for your writing. Properly citing you re source is necessary when using one of these three ways
of incorporation.
Failing to cite the original text is a dishonest writing technique and can result in discipline. Quoting is
one way to give thoughts that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Paraphrasing can be described as using another s ideas and putting it in your own words. Often a
shorter version still including most details. When summarizing you are taking a lot of information
from a source using the main ideas and putting in less words , by leaving out more of the detail. To
properly cite a source you must follow one of several formats. Purdue online writing lab says(1995
2018) APA format is the most common in U.S social science. There are two citations that must be
made, an in text reference and a reference page at the end of your work that includes all resources. In
text citing needs to include the author and year of publication, when quoting work also include the
page number of the quote. An additional page at the end of your work titled references must include
all sources. This should have the title and or website of the text, the author and publication year as
well. Always put the authors last name first and in the case that there is more than one author out then
in alphabetical order. It is important to do your research to properly cite the sources to give credit to
the original author and avoid

Humber North Case Study
Daily Parking
Introduction and Background
Humber College North Campus, a home to over 19,000 people and residence to 1,000 students, have
decided to expand its premises by building a new building. In doing so they plan on bringing in more
students both residential and international, thus increasing the surplus population of its school. We
have noticed that while doing so they have decreased the space of parking for both staff and students.
If parking spaces are limited to the members of this school now, how do they plan on bringing in more
people, who will be coming in from all over the world?
Parking at Humber College is next to impossible. With 10 minutes left to the start of class starts you
are guaranteed to be late. There are approximately ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Unfortunately, only 32 members participated in the survey, many either did not drive or had no
interest in participating. Figure 1 shows the percentage of students, professors, security, and other
faculty individuals who partook in the survey.
Conclusions
Based on the results from the Humber North s Parking Survey from the individuals of Humber
College North campus, the following conclusions were obtained:
Most of the members, students in particular, do not drive to school, they either get a ride, carpool, or
take public transit.
87% of the surveyors agreed that something needs to be done about the parking situation at Humber
North, because 64% of them find themselves arriving early, for it takes them on average 10 minutes to
find parking.
86% agreed that separate parking was in order, it is considered that it would be less of a hassle if the
staff and students did not mix in the parking lot.

Comparison Between Hamlet And Aristotelian Tragedy
Aristotle describes tragedy as beginning of a staid deed, that is total and of high degree.
Tragedy he defines: Is a sign of action that is serious, full and of a firm magnitude?

Tragedy with Aristotle is consist of always with personality of high degree , almost with rulers or

Moreover, they have as their centre of notice, the tragic leading actor whose tragic error eventually

The Impact Of Technology On The Financial Sector
SOCIAL In the years since the 2008/2009 financial crisis, mistrust of the banking and financing
industry remains high (Erman, 2013). This provides a unique challenge across the financial sector,
including the relevant interior industries of investment banking and venture capital. Once the market
crashed and the mechanics behind it came to light, a large portion of the American populace
dramatically shifted their opinions in regards to the financial sector. This sentiment came to a head
two years after the collapse with the creation of the Occupy Wall Street movement (Erman, 2013).
While not the sole cause, pressure from the American public played a part in the increased regulation
that the financial sector sees today including the Dodd Frank Act. A large part of this negative
backlash was due to an inherent misunderstanding of the inner workings of the financial system
(Erman, 2013). However, a lack financial knowledge did not mean the backlash was any less
successful. TECHNOLOGY The industry wide effects of technology can be seen from both an
internal and external perspective. Internally, the industry is technologically advancing as all industries
are. In person, brick and mortar company evaluations and investments are increasingly being done via
computer instead. This has lowered overhead costs and has increased the computing power of those
making the investments. Externally, the boom in technology is providing a plethora of investment
opportunities. Industry

What is ethical and unethical when it comes to information gathering on a group of people or an

mediums, technology, and social and economic statuses change at rates that have never been seen on
this type of global scale in human history it can be hard to tell. I will delve into situations and

Anheuser Busch hired individuals that were looked at as trend setters, to go into popular bars in major
metropolitan areas in the United States and buy Bud Select. This is when Anheuser Busch was just
introducing Bud Select. This is where the dilemma comes in, was Anheuser Busch doing anything
wrong in hiring people to buy their own product in public outings? This was a way for them to push
their product. For: Anheuser Busch was not breaking the law. There is no rule saying you can t hire
people to buy your own product and then showcase it to other individuals. Against: By hiring
individuals that are looked at as trend setters to push a new product in a public atmosphere, a bar or

Race and Ethnicity in the United States Still Matters
Race and ethnicity is a main factor in the way we identify others and ourselves. The real question here

this concept, do they feel greatly affected by their race? This is the question we will answer

They had been taken away from their homes and forced to works as slaves. They often do not view

If a child had any form of black ancestry he would be considered black regardless if they were partly

Material Flows And Inventory Policy During Military Scm
Material Flows and Inventory Policy in Military SCM
According to Major Joshua M. Lenzini in his article Anticipatory Logistics: The Army s Answer to
Supply Chain Management, Supply chain management is similar for both corporate and military
organizations. However, some significant differences are evident in these models. The first is the
absence of maintenance on the corporate model. Another is that transportation, distribution, and
warehousing are unidirectional in the corporate model but dual directional in the military model (see
Figure 3, Lenzini, 2002)). This backward flow is called reverse logistics, and although it is not unique
to military supply networks it is uniquely critical.
Figure 3: Schematic of differences for Corporate (left) and Military (right) SCM (Lenzini, 2002).
Reverse logistics constitutes the value recovery process for reparable spares. It is important because
theoretically is has considerable impact on the supply chain as it is the feedback loop. The reverse
stage starts from the military units, to the maintenance depots, and then back to the forward supply
chain to the units. The responsiveness of the reverse pipeline then becomes crucial to support
sustained operations when higher than expected failure rates in equipment occur, resulting in
temporary spikes or sustained surges in demand. Recent data analysis indicates that the ratio of issues
to returns across deployed units is highly variable, ranging between 40 percent and almost 100

Comparing The Cask Of Amontillado And A Rose For Emily
Comparative Analysis Short Story Essay
Both short stories The Cask of Amontillado by Edgar Allan Poe and A Rose for
Emily by William Faulkner highlights the issue of revenge and showcases the outcomes of mental
illness. In these stories, the main characters, Montresor and Emily, both suffer from mental illness,
which causes them later on in the story to lose their sense of humanity and commit murder. Both
Montresor and Emily believe that they have been wronged, and thus seek revenge on the ones who
have wronged them by murdering them. Not only do they both commit murder, but also they do so by
committing it through inhumane methods. Montresor murders his rival by burying him alive, and
Emily by poisoning and preserving her boyfriend s dead body. Both stories The Cask of Amontillado
and A Rose for Emily illustrate two mentally unstable characters who lose their sanity and commit
murder, revealing how the actions of people in the upper class, which were unchecked because of their
social status, result in the commission of reprehensible actions. In the story The Cask of Amontillado
both Montresor and Fortunato come from high social and prominent classes. In the beginning of the
story, one may assume that Montresor did not come from any prominent social class; ... Show more

The Ballet Of The Italian Renaissance Essay
Ballet originated in the Italian Renaissance courts of the 15th century and later developed into a
concert dance form in France and Russia. Barre is French for bar, and a barre has been used in ballet
training as a support to help with balance while practicing traditional ballet technique.
Modern barre techniques can be traced back to Lotte Berk who, like Joseph Pilates, fled Germany
because of the Nazis. (Lotte Berk fled to the UK in 1938 because she was Jewish, while Pilates fled to
New York City supposedly because the Nazis wanted to recruit him to train the uber German body).
Lotte Berk developed a fitness regime in the UK that incorporated barre and other dance related and
core strengthening exercises. Her technique was popular in the sixties and seventies in New York city
and other cities around the world. Since then other individuals and companies have developed barre
programs that use a ballet barre and incorporate different fitness concepts. Now there are many fitness
franchises in the US that incorporate the ballet barre.
How is Ellie Herman s Brooklyn Barre different from other Barre Methods?
While many of the current barre methods do exercises that may make your legs and tummy look good,
they ultimately can damage the knee joints and lumbar spine.
Neutral Pelvis v. Flat Back
Like classical Pilates and the Lotte Berk method, many of the current barre franchise regimes place
the pelvis in a poster pelvic tilt instead of a neutral pelvis. Why is this

Throughout most of the book Curley s wife strikes us as a compelling and riveting character as we

The Book The Ghost Writer
In the book The Ghost Writer, the story is centered around Nathan Zuckerman, who struggles with
whether his Jewish identity should affect how his story about Jewish people is interpreted. As a result,
Roth presents a series of characters that have jewish related backgrounds, including E. I. Lonoff, Amy
Bellette who resembles Anne Frank, for Nathan to observe and learn from. However, there is Hope,
the wife of Lonoff, who seems to have none of the things Nathan needs; she is not jewish, neither a
writer, but only a determined and thoughtful woman who prefer depth over boredom in life. Philip
Roth chooses to include her in the novel to present that even without the context of identity, being a
pure artist is dangerous to oneself and the surrounding love ones. With the huge success of E. I.
Lonoff on professional career and his bad temper on personal life, one would expect his wife to be
only a subsequent character who serves the purpose of supporting him. Such conclusion can be made
when looking at Hope s language when interacting with Nathan in front of Lonoff. Under normal
relationships between a couple, one should not need to explain another to their guests to make the
guests feel more respected. However, when Lonoff is directing Nathan on the subject of apology,
Hope feels the necessity of her interrupting the conversation, to explain and emphasize Lonoff s good
intentions behind the imperative voice and the superiority feelings (39) of him. In this situation, the

Why Was Hitchcock Considered An Auteur
Every film that is made has a collective group of people who lend their vision to a film. The term
auteur theory, originating in France in the 1950 s, is a French word that means author and in the world
of cinema that would mean the director is the one who is the major creative force behind the film. As
stated in the article The Auteur Theory, the term author carries another association namely, the idea of
a lone, individual creator. With the word auteur being involved it means that the director is not only
the one in charge of directing the film, he would have say or input of other mediums like for instance a
painter or a writer. They are rebels against a collective group effort and instead go rogue in making
decisions on their own disregarding input from the team and most importantly the studio backing the
film. The directors choice to take on full ownership of films leaves ... Show more content on

I had seen his version of Psycho and really loved it. Watching Shadow of a Doubt, it proved why
Hitchcock is considered an auteur in many ways. While the term was coming into play, Hitchcock had

can have his image promoted in his own way. It s like an artist putting their signature on a painting.

The company would long remain a mainstay of the United Kingdom s high street shopping districts.
Hepworth Son s continued expansion led the company to go public in 1948. By the late 1970s,
however, Hepworth Son had begun to suffer from old age pains and, especially, from its conservative
image. Led by chairman Terence Conran, however, Hepworth Son made a bold move to remake itself
completely at the start of the 1980s.
In 1981 the company acquired the Kendalls retail store chain. The Kendalls chain, with some 80
locations, catered to the womenswear market, complementing the Hepworth Son menswear line. If
Kendalls also complemented Hepworth Son s somewhat stuffy image, the acquisition would serve as a
strong stepping stone for the company s move to transform itself into a full line clothing retailer.
With the Kendalls acquisition, Conran brought in a new chief executive, George Davies, and gave
Davies instructions to reinvent the Kendalls chain. While remaining in the womenswear segment,
Davies turned the company toward sales of company designed and branded merchandise. This
merchandise would be sold under a new name and retail store concept, Next, at the former Kendalls
locations.
The first year of Next brand operations would see a turnover of more than £82 million. By the end of
1982, more than 70 Kendalls locations had been converted to the Next concept. The Next sales

The Heroine In Doctor Johnson s Classroom
A name is a label given to distinct every person. The authors have purposely given nicknames so that
it describes each individual s character. The character of Big Brother in 1984, The Heroine in
Rebecca, and the bear in Doctor Johnson s classroom are all in contrast. Big Brother s real name
should be Joseph, Joe for short, The Heroine s name should be Lisa, and the bear in Doctor Johnson s
classroom should be Albert. George Orwell wrote 1984 with the character of Big Brother being
described as a Dictator and showing no respect or privacy for others. He can be thought of as an actual
big brother or a nosey neighbor. He should have the name Joseph, Joe for short because he seems
more of a nosey neighbor. At one point or another every person

Elements Of Catholicism And Voodoo
A religion can be defined as a system of belief that manifest, to some degree, the following eight
elements: belief system, community, central myths, ritual, ethics, characteristic emotional experience,
material expression, and sacredness. Depending on the religion, some of these elements may carry
more weight than others. I will look at Catholicism and Voodoo and the role some of these elements
play within these systems of belief.
Catholicism is a monotheistic religion believing that God is the Creator of all that is. We must love
and serve God in our daily life, through prayer and good works, in order to achieve salvation. The
element of central myths plays a large role within the Catholic faith, as the Bible is the core of

Eucharist is when we receive the body and blood of Christ through the symbols of bread and wine. It
further extends the initiation that took place at baptism to enter fully into the heart of Christian faith
through participation in the Eucharist (catholic.org,2017). Confirmation is the final step of initiation. It
is receiving the gift of the Holy Spirit that unites us more firmly with Christ and strengthens our bond
with the Church. The remaining four Sacraments guide us through the rest of our life. The Sacrament
of Penance is received regularly to confess our sins and seek forgiveness so that we may remain in
God s grace. The Sacrament of Marriage takes place when two people commit to spend the rest of
their life together, anointing of the sick is when a priest anoints a sick person with oil and offers
prayers, and Holy Orders is the sacrament that takes place with the ordination of a bishop, priest, or
deacon into ministry (Molloy, M., 2010).
Voodoo is also a monotheistic religion that combines Catholic and African beliefs and is often
surrounded by many misconceptions. Voodoo has been portrayed by the media as a form of devil
worship and curses, with Voodoo dolls being used to inflict pain on one s enemies (ancient
origins.net). It is practiced primarily in Haiti, New Orleans, and the Caribbean. This religion is several
hundred years old, dating back to when African slaves were brought to America from Haiti. They were
not allowed to practice their African

Septic Trucks
Septic pumping is a job that can go one of two ways: poorly or well. With appropriate equipment that
is well maintained and right for the job, a job should be accomplished quickly and easily. When
vehicle parts are not maintained or used properly, problems may happen. Other than the pumps, the
main trouble with any new or used septic trucks that are part of a work fleet are the results of improper
use and maintenance of the hoses. Equipment Working Together In order to achieve the most efficient
vacuum in a tank that will give the pump the power for strong suction, the tank and pump must be
appropriately sized to work together; a bigger tank or pump does not necessarily work any better. An
incorrectly matched pump and tank can cause hose ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When too small, material can create too much friction on the inside and get clogged; when too large,
there can be too much air flowing into the tube and tank to allow for proper vacuuming. Keeping all
connected lengths of hose the same diameter the entire length is important to prevent blockages.
Keeping Hoses Working Naturally, a dirty suction line that is allowed to collect material inside it when
not regularly and properly cleaned is going to have a problem siphoning anything. This problem is
frequently experienced after purchasing used septic trucks as it is impossible to know if a previous
owner cleaned the hoses correctly. At best, vacuuming could be inefficient; at its worst, it could stop
altogether when the lines get clogged. The answer is to always keep hoses stored clean and empty,
although there is a definite trick to doing this. Normally, operators can clear out dirty suction lines by
keeping the pump on even when done working in order to clear out any remaining material left in the
hose when the pumps were shut down. Once there is nothing left to vacuum, the pumps will no longer
suction as there is not a vacuum in the tank, although the tubes should be empty at that

My Shadowing Experience
These shadowing experiences have been very insightful. Scheduling my shadowing experiences
proved to be a bit of a challenge. Within the state of Maryland, public school students in third through
eighth grade take the annual PARCC (Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and
Careers) assessment. The PARCC Assessment consists of reading and mathematics sections. The
assessment for each grade level consists of at least 7 units. Typically one day is designated for each
unit. Thus, while planning these shadowing experiences, I ensured that I did not visit on a testing day.
For this experience, I chose to visit an elementary school and its feeder middle school. I chose this
because students leave this elementary school with a high rate of student achievement, yet in middle
school the scores plummet. I wanted to investigate how this gap could be minimized. Comparing
philosophies, expectations and leadership styles for schools within the same community was also a
goal.
My first shadowing experience was on April 6, 2017 in a Prince Gorges County Public School middle
school facility. As I entered the building, I was greeted by a young man (a student) holding the door
for me. How polite I thought to myself. He then directed me to the office. Once in the office, I was
greeted by the secretary and asked to wait patiently because they were extremely busy. Even though
the front office was busy, everyone was welcoming, friendly yet efficient.

Open and Prosperous Trade with South Africa
Introduction
South Africa has enjoyed since the early 90 s open and prosperous trade between there international
relationships. The ruling party however has been under the spotlight for majority of their duration in
power. In the duration of the ruling parties last term there has been many changes; new competitive
political parties were formed, service delivery strikes have risen tremendously, youth have lost faith in
the government and literacy and education has been criticised globally.Based on research previously
done discussing the key parties for the 2014 elections and status of the countries international trade the
report will discuss the implications from the 2014 elections that will affect the global view and
standing of the country. First to addressed is the new parties and their role in the 2014 election. An in
depth look at the trade economic relations between the nation will be discussed and what the
implications are globally if the ruling party loses of their power in parliament. Lastly to be discussed
will be the ionternational relations between the nation and its counterparts and how the 2014 election
outcome could impact the global standing of the nation.

The Causes Of The Stock Market Crash Of 2008
In Frontline s The Meltdown, the causes of the stock market crash of 2008 came into discussion. The
topics regarding Bear Stearns, the Lehman Brothers and their collapse, and the huge bailout made in
results to the market crash. There were great points being made on the mistakes Henry Paulson and
Ben Bernanke did not view from their perspective, which in turns were the problems that made up the
crash.
It was not until 2007 when foreclosures occurred more and became prominent, especially since the
last market crash during the Great Depression. As Gretchen Morgenson of the New York Times
discusses, Bear Stearns was known for his great plays with mortgages on Wall Street. People who
believed Stearns would pull the right decisions became scared as the values of their assets were
decreasing. This created a necessitated attitude towards money since their was money being borrowed
fighting against the collaterals, in turns the assets. When the assets started to decline, you need to start
paying back money to those you have borrowed from. Roughly $1.6 billion was discarded in Stearns
decisions, which was the start to the stress he would obtain from the crash. This enabled the world to
see how weak the market was, especially those who had a role within the market. When banks also
saw the weakness mortgage companies had developed, they decided to raise the cost of borrowing
money from them, creating doubts if these mortgage firms, such as Stearns, would be able to solve

Advertising Persuasive Paper
The reality of advertising is right under our noses and in front of our eyes. Wherever we are or
whatever we are doing, the fact is we are likely to be surrounded and influenced by advertisements.
Shakespeare advertised his plays, of course, but not in the commercial sense we know today. For more
than a hundred years, though, commercial advertisements for products and services have been vying
for the attention of the consumer. Those businesses found that the bigger and bolder the claims they
made, the more people bought their products and chose them over the competition.
The fiercely competitive businesses of advertising and marketing were born. Today those businesses
alone are worth billions and even trillions of dollars. They ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

own rather than on your personality. Do you really need friends like that?
We are being manipulated, on every street corner and every moment of the day and it s going to get
worse. Internet advertising, once only a fraction of all advertising is set to become the biggest business
in the world. This won t just apply to pop ups or banners, it will apply to personal advertising aimed
and directed at you personally. It will be based on the mathematic boffins who are now employed by
the marketers. They are, at present, working out your spending patterns and studying your lifestyle
habits based on your search engine enquiries and surfing habits. You can expect to be subjected to
nearly one thousand online marketing messages each day and every one will be set to appeal to you

The fact that our lives are saturated by advertising seems to worry only a few people. The rest of us
just shrug and think that is how it is supposed to be. Yet whatever and however you feel about it,
advertising is impossible to avoid. Marketing companies in response to so called ‘ad clutter or ‘ad

Essay Reconciling the Cuban Embargo
Heading the wrong way made Douglas Wrong Way Corrigan famous. When he filed his flight plan to
fly from New York to California and wound up in Ireland there was much celebrity and very little
downside for him. The US, may not be as lucky with our embargo policy towards Cuba. A policy that
may have a major impact on the US, both domestically and internationally, is truly only actively
discussed in the swing state of Florida. Is the US heading in the wrong direction with this policy?
Certainly the author thinks so, and if he s right it s not likely that we ll receive a ticker tape parade at
the end of journey like Corrigan did.
Alex Lightman walks us through 78 reasons to end the embargo of Cuba. He does this by stating a
reason and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the maon body of the book, Lightman breaks his reasons into five general categories; General,
Political, Economic, Humanitarian and Fair Compensation. Some of these reasons overlap or are
highly intermingled so seeing each point separately may be difficult from time to time.
General
Lightmans general reasons are a small collection of statements that seem not to fit anywhere else in
the treatise. Those in the business world will recognize that the focus here is on effective goal setting.
He educates the reader on the SMART technique and details why the Cuban embargo fails to be a
SMART goal. Then, looking from the other perspective, he evaluates the goal in terms of the results
obtained. Now he questions since the goal has not been met, is it appropriate to continue down the
same well worn path. Further to this point, he posits that for the US to advocate regime change in
another nation is not an ethical goal to pursue in the first place. The section closes out by arguing that
the real beneficiaries of the embargo are people and entities that the American people would never
want to benefit in the first place. His list of beneficiaries includes the Castro brothers, which would
shock any idealistically minded pro embargo supporter.
Political
The vast amount of the book is spent covering the political reasons why the embargo should be ended.

Thousands of illegal immigrants smuggle themselves across the United States border each day. The
Immigration and Naturalization Service, or the INS, concluded that the United States is currently a
place to call home for a population of approximately twelve million illegal immigrants (Hayes 16). An
American who has never been to Mexico, for example, may wonder why these people risk their lives
to live in the United States. With the jobs, education, welfare, and unemployment compensation the

Employers are able to make money because production is fast and cheap for them. The Pew Hispanic
Center concluded in 2001 classified an estimated 5.3 million workers in the U.S. as unauthorized
workers in the labor force. These jobs include 700,000 restaurant workers, 250,000 household
workers, and 620,000 construction workers (Murphy). This is a whole lot of cheap labor, and without
it the U.S. would suffer. If 620,000 construction workers were gone, home improvement projects
across the nation would quickly be hard to find. With a large number of these immigrants also earning
wages working on farms, Americans would find much of their produce rotting in fields due to the lack
of workers (Murphy 2). The positive effect of these immigrants on the nation s labor force is well
supported by Americans; however, the opinion of those rejecting these workers is accepted and taken
into account as well. The main argument of Americans rejecting the idea of immigration is supported
by the rising unemployment rate in America. There are hundreds of American natives who are
unemployed. Harvard sociologist, Christopher Jencks, states, The reason that Americans will not take
jobs washing dishes, cleaning hotel rooms, mowing lawns, and picking fruit is because immigrant
labor has driven the wages down (Taylor). Not only are the wages being driven down, but the working

The excessive use of oil in the United States has been a very controversial debate with American

benefits. Amory Lovins is a physicist, environmental scientist, writer, and Chairman/Chief Scientist of

renewable energy and alternatives for oil. Lovins also regularly gives presentations to other

In paragraph 6 Lovins states that Inefficient light trucks and cars, which consume 40% of our oil, are
at the center of our oil habit. And ultralight and ultrastrong materials for vehicles are the No. 1
enabling technology for changing that. He reaffirms this point with many more facts and statistics
throughout this article. Lovins other main point is the benefit of using biofuels as a substitute for oil.
He encourages his point of view in paragraph one on page three by saying that Oil industry giants like
Shell and BP are already preparing to move beyond oil by transforming themselves into energy
companies.
Lovins argument is valid and provides good evidence to support his point of view. He mainly uses
logos in his arguments. This article is full of statistics which may make the argument valid, but does
not necessarily make it a good, well rounded argument. Although Lovins did a very good job using
logos, he missed some very easy opportunities to use ethos and pathos in his argument as well.
Providing information on how much America s overconsumption of oil is negatively affecting the
environment would be a very effective method of using ethos and pathos in his argument without
deviating from his logos style of writing. To effectively use ethos and pathos, Lovins could have
provided statistics on how many

What Is Multiculturalism In The Blind Side
We know that many movies bring up the issue of multiculturalism, especially between black and
white, such as The Blind Side. In the movie, the filmmaker seems to make a gap between black and
white by putting them in different areas. It seems that the suburban area belongs to black society,
while the midtown is white s. In this movie, black people are pictured to look like criminals, and their
lifes are messed up. Meanwhile, white people seem to have the perfect life; rich, expensive cars, big
houses, great schools, and so on. The feeling of being insecure grows among these white people. To
illustrate, Leigh Anne s friends tells her to be careful for keeping Michael in the house. They picture
Michael as a random black man who will rape Collins, Leigh Anne s daughter. This argument shows

Running From the Sunset; Going East
In 1961, Dad recognized that Betsy s high school graduation presented an opportunity for the whole
family to convene on the East coast for the summer. I was scheduled to enter a boarding school in
Maine in the fall. Spending the summer in New York meant Dad could drive me to Hebron Academy
when the new school year began in September.
You mean we re actually going to Comfort Island after all these years of talking about it? I asked Dad.
Yes, Tad, I finally sold your mother on the idea. We will attend Betsy s graduation from Miss Hall s
School in Massachusetts then drive to Alexandria Bay to spend the summer on Comfort Island.
I thought back to the day in 1956 when my dad and I scanned the 1885 photo of Comfort Island with
the magnifying glass. I wondered then and for the five years that followed if we would ever make the
trip there as he promised. My older sister, Betsy, had visited Comfort Island briefly with Mom and

Marketing Strategy Of Vodafone
Telecommunications: Company Vodafone
Vodafone is a British multinational telecommunications company which operates its own networks in
26 countries and has partner networks in over 50 countries. Such a wide range of markets makes
Vodafone apply different marketing strategies to satisfy customers needs and make profits from it.
This chapter of the essay will focus on EU s and Indian marketing strategies of Vodafone to prove the
importance of having different marketing strategies in different markets.
The market in the EU is relatively mature compared with the Indian market. In a mature market of
telecommunications the number of consumers of a mobile network is relatively steady. On Financial
Times website, in Daniel Thomas s (2014) article Vodafone continues its evolution and widens
European foothold , he describes the marketing strategy of Vodafone in EU specifically. Now the main
strategy in EU is about expending Vodafone s business to other fields including the broadband and TV
markets. In order to realize the business expending Vodafone began to purchase other companies like
Ono of Spain, Cable Wireless Worldwide in the UK and Kabel Deutschland in Germany which
provide such service to customers. Also Building Vodafone s own network in Italy, Spain and Portugal
is another strategy used for business expending. Daniel Thomas (2014) mentioned Mr. Colao CEO of

Core Principles Values Of Effective Team Based Health Care
In their discussion paper Core principles values of effective team based health care , Mitchell et al
(2012), identified mutual trust in teams as one of 5 principles of effective team based healthcare.
Within healthcare though there are numerous examples of where a and abuse of trust, misplacement of
trust or a culture of distrust, have adversely impacted on patient care as documented in the Shipman
Inquiry (2005); the Francis Report (2010) and the Bristol Royal Infirmary Inquiry (2001).
To examine the issue of why trust is important for effective team working in healthcare, the author
will begin by reviewing definitions of trust, trustworthiness and the psychological approaches to trust
development before considering the potential impacts that trust has on team working and performance.
An overview of how trust can be nurtured and developed within the context of healthcare teams will
also identify the role of leaders in building a climate for trust to be developed.
Defining trust 723
Interpersonal trust was defined by Rousseau, Sitkin, Burt and Camerer (1998, p 395), as the intention
to accept vulnerability based upon positive expectations of the intentions or behaviour of another. This
link to vulnerability between trustor (the giving party) and trustee (the receiving party) was also
captured by Mayer et al. (1995 p. 712) who defined trust as the willingness of a party to be vulnerable
to the actions of another party based on the expectations that the other

The City s Statute Violate The Equal Protection Clauses
The City s statute provides,
No person over the age 10 shall use a public restroom assigned to the opposite sex of that which is
listed on the person s birth certificate. Violation of this section is a misdemeanor, punishable by law .
The plaintiff s contention is that the city s statute violates the equal protection Clause of the 14th
Amendment. Since the classification at issue involves gender of the users of the public restrooms, it
falls within the quasi suspect categories. Therefore, this city must meet the intermediate scrutiny
standard.
This city statute requires the citizens at the age of 10 or older to use the public restroom designated for
their gender as listed on their birth certificates. When the government enacts a law ... Show more

Where a gender neutral alternative is available, the gender discriminatory classification is not said to
be the least intrusive means that the government can use, and therefore, the classification put forward
by the government is not necessary . However, the government would be required to show that the
means they use is necessary and narrowly tailored to advance its objectives only under strict scrutiny.
Where the classification is not invidious, not selecting the least discriminatory means would not
necessarily render the statute violative of equal protection. Rostker v. Goldberg, 453 U.S. 57, 101 S.
Ct. 2646 (1981). As established supra, it is the intermediate scrutiny standard that applies to the
present issue, and the City only needs to prove that its objective is important and the statutory
classification is substantially related to that objective. It is not necessary for the City to pursue the
least discriminatory means to pass the judicial review. The City will withstand intermediate

Legal Consciousness And The United States
In this essay, we will discuss the term of legal consciousness, and the importance of why the concept
was developed and most importantly the weaknesses and strengths of legal consciousness in the
United States. We will then look together to first define what is legal consciousness? Legal
consciousness is what people think and say about the law. It is often referred to as social
consciousness. More simply put, legal consciousness is the attitude people with regards to the law and
this may vary amongst people from different class, gender, educational backgrounds, race, ethnicity
and political views. It is the legal awareness of the public about the law and how the law works and
what is legal vs. illegal. An individual s legal consciousness gives meaning to one s perspective of
how they think about the law. Legal consciousness changed with time and space according to legal
scholars. Legal consciousness helps us differentiate the gap between the law on he book and the law in
action (Susan S. Silbey, page 1). Ewick Silbey describe consciousness as engaging in the social
movement and predominance. (Susan S. Silbey, page 333). Ewick and Silbey describe as before, with,

Sense Of Sublimity In Alfred Hitchcock s The Birds
Popular phrases such as Well, that s beyond me . . . What racks my brain is . . . or I can t wrap my
head around that are simple contemporary idioms inadvertently attempting to communicate a sense of
confusion, wonder, and admiration, though not without a touch of fear (Janowitz). Words perhaps not
commonly used to describe Alfred Hitchcock s classic which is nearing its fifty fifth birthday. Yet, the
campy, middle aged, prototypal film remains unsettling, frightening, and substantially sublime.
Therefore, what exactly cements this film in infamy? What makes its presence essential to the libraries
of eco critic s far and wide? Well, The Birds utilizes Hitchcock s crafty use of common cinematic
techniques to conjure a sustaining sense of sublimity; the bird s infiniteness, their bouts of terrorism,
and their symbolism illustrates several character s conflicts and loss of power permeating throughout
the film with climatic moments illuminated by his many artful methods.
For instance, Hitchcock initially builds a sense of sublimity by accumulating birds in a way that
represent the incomprehensibility and infiniteness of nature a characteristic of a sublimity. His attempt
to illustrate infinity fills the mind with a sort of delightful horror (Burke). The choice to reiterate the
very concept is shown in the first setting in which the movie takes place: San Francisco. A place
crowded with people, architecture, and a general absence of nature only shown to be caged or
encircling the citizens below. The birds are suspiciously swarming the sky and only one citizens take
notice the main character, Melanie. She is particularly caught by the commotion in the sky pausing to
ponder their existence, only briefly, and then finally entering the bird shop. This minor event is
important to the foreshadowing of dramatic action and the explanation of the bird s existence.
Nonetheless, a better more riveting technique is explored later in the film.
Hitchcock s ability to accumulate suspense not only throughout his film but in compressed context,
too, is impressive. The famous scene where Melanie is waiting for Mitch s sister to be released from
school exemplifies his ability. The dramatic irony of the scene is the

Selfish Theme Analysis in Bartleby by Herman Melville Essay
Is the narrator of Bartleby a selfish or an unselfish man? Defend your answer with evidence from the
story. The narrator of Bartleby is not a selfish man. Instead, he was the type of man who tried to do
everything for someone who was in need. He tried his best to be there for one of his workers when he
knew he was not well. Bartleby was a man who was a great worker. He was a man who knew what he
was doing and what needed to be done from him. He was extremely caught up with his work, as he
had nothing else to do and no one to be with. The story changed when Bartleby s attitude about
everything changed. The first thing he did was he prefer not to do what his boss asked him to do. He
gave no explanation why but made it clear that he won t ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He was able to see that the man he hired was using his office for his own living home. For the first
time in my life a feeling of overpowering stinging melancholy seized me. Before, I had never
experienced aught but a not unpleasing sadness. (Herman Melville, page 320). the narrator is feeling
sad for Bartleby, he feels sad that the man who works for him is lonely and has no one to be with.
However, as the story keeps going Bartleby refused to do anything. When asked to do something his
simple words are, I prefer not to. the narrator did not like this and he got mad that he decided to move
his business somewhere else. He didn t want to be in charge of Bartleby when the man would not do
any work. He was proud of himself for leaving him behind without getting angry but being able to
control his anger. When again I entered my office, lo, a note from the landlord lay upon my desk. I
opened it with trembling hands. It informed me that the writer had sent to the police, and had Bartleby
remove to the Tombs as a vagrant. (Herman Melville, page 329). everyone knew that the narrator
knew more about Bartleby then they did. They wanted the narrator to be able and do something about
Bartleby. As Bartleby was in the Tomb the narrator took time out to go and visit him. The first time he
visited him Bartleby ignored him. The narrator out of his good character went to the person who cooks
for them and gave him money so he can get Bartleby some good food. As stubborn as

The Personality Type Of The Infj Personality Essay
The INFJ personality is known to be the world rarest personality type and often misunderstood. This
type stand for a percentage of less than 2% of the overall world population according to Holm (2009),
the majority of that percentage being female and some famous INFJ that can be named are Nelson
Mandela, Martin Luther King and Mother Teresa. My INFJ in academic and business milieu: from the
past week assignment, my preferred four letters chosen base on the instructions received from Myers
Briggs type indicator were INFJ, which stands for Introverting, iNtuiting, Feeling and Judging. For
this week assignment I was very surprise after taking the Jungian test to discover that my personality
type fours letter were confirmed to be the same INFJ. Having my conformed INFJ profile means that
in business milieu, my creativity and sense of responsibility come in first. Although as an INFJ I m
strongly introverted, I nevertheless highly care about my relationship with other individuals. At work I
m open to communication and always available when it comes to help colleagues to carry out on tasks
or explaining work procedures. However, my personality type also implies that I can have sudden
need for personal time away from others, which is my way to recharge and regain my energy. In an
academic milieu, I m more focus on setting and reaching my goals; I get motivated by planning in

Hull House Labor Museum
Hull House was a place for the poor to settle and have a relaxed time from work or the struggle. The
house provided child care, basic health care and classes for the poor (Presentation 10/5). Lumbering
our minds with literature that only served to cloud the really vital situation spread before our eyes
(Addams, pg. 71). Addams believed learning unneccessary skills in college like literature represents
education losing its value in the society. Addams focused on acquiring skills that could be used in vital
situations. The House was used to improve the conditions in the communities for poor and learn
domestic and educational skills to be used in their daily lives. There were many activities for people of
all ages. The Hull House Labor Museum ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Toynbee Hall which taught her to discover the life of the poor and have a first hand account and
understand the daily activity. (Addams, pg.78) The nursery provided care to the children while parents
were working and poor women, who are dealing with unsupportive husbands. (Addams, pg.111) With
the safety of the children, factory condition were unsafe for children to be working there. There was
one boy that was injured from a machine in a factory , which led to his death. The factories acted in
such carelessness as they replaced the child with another worker. Illinois State Bureau of Labor was
investigated the child labor in the factories. The Factory Laws of Illinois regulated the sanitary
conditions of sweatshops and fixing the age to begin working at 14(Addams, pg. 123). The Juvenile

Whats Eating Gilbert Grape Essay
574 words
Write a 1 2 page essay that explores the paradox that when the film ends, Gilbert is in exactly the
same place as when it began, yet he has traveled a long way.
What s eating Gilbert Grape is a very simple yet meaningful movie. There is no clear cut message that
points out the faults of society and it may be hard to interpret a message because the movie is set
around everyday life. However the one thing that is clear, is that
Gilbert realises throughout the movie that his life is going nowhere and he must break the everyday
routine. Gilbert sees through the people he calls his friends and realises that they influence his
decisions to stay. He sees how they fill their days with hope and talk of something new and small town

Becky is the main source of motivation Gilbert has for leaving
Endora. She is constantly telling him of the carefree life she has of moving from one town to another
and how good it is to not be tied down to your own life. He is also romantically interested in Becky
which is another driving force behind his ambition to leave and follow her lifestyle. Unlike his
relationship with Mrs. Carver, Gilbert has a genuine love for Becky which is a sign of his increased
maturity and changed attitude towards a relationship. Gradually he becomes interested in the maps he
sees on Becky s wall and the opportunities he can persue with her.
Ultimately it is the death of his mother that is the real reason for his moving on. The mothers passing
away, although tragic, is a great burden removed from Gilbert and the
Grape family. He no longer has the obligation to stay and look after her and provide for the family. He
is no longer responsible for the family and the work that comes with holding it together. He doesn t
have to worry about constant repairs of the house and keeping it a secret from the mother. The family
has split up and he is now free to go his own way too. There is no guilt in leaving Endora behind.
Gilbert has traveled a very long way since the beginning of the story. His life has turned completely
around for the better and will never be the same again. Gilbert has traveled a

The World Of A Capitalistic Society
Living in a capitalistic society, we are constantly bombarded with the notion of buying from large
brand named corporations in order to save money. But I bring up the question, is this really helping
you and your family in the end, or the billionaires living at the top? Large corporations allow for small
businesses to essentially diminish before our very eyes. While buying from stores such as Walmart,
Target, and Home Depot, you are stripping away business production that can be done here on
American soil. As our economy is depleting itself and we extend ourselves higher into debt, the only
people we have to blame are the consumers. By buying from local produce stands and farmers
markets, we cut the cost of travel time and the resources needed to get to the store. Buying local can
also bring money into the community while the food is healthier and fresher for the family to enjoy.
As times grow tough for American families, we are constantly in search for products to fit our needs,
while also fitting the bill. What numerous consumers don t realize is that by spending a few extra
cents on vegetables or clothing made in the community, we are not only providing an income for our
people but we can become sustainable as well. Sustainability is key to becoming a prosperous nation.
By cutting our dependence off of major countries like China, this will not only bring back jobs but
also decrease the vast trade deficit we have with these global competitors. As most people are often

Causes Of Man Causes Climate Change Essay

Adv. LA 10
21 November, 2017
Man Is The Cause Of Climate Change
Imagine this; Our world with thick coal colored clouds, we re having to wear gas masks to breathe.
Animals, except fish, are going extinct due to not having grass to eat. There isn t any fresh water so
we have to boil our water over terribly hot fires. The nights are freezing cold and the days are
extremely hot with humid thick air, even sometimes there are immensely strong rainstorms of acid
rain. Our world doesn t need to be like this; Man is the cause of climate change due to the overuse of
fossil fuels, using aerosol products, and even deforestation.. sw3The most impactful way man causes
climate change is through burning fossil fuels, we as humans cause air pollution directly through our
use of gases, electricity and transportation. Also air pollution can be caused indirectly, when we buy
our food and other goods it uses energy to create, clean, and ship the item. The foremost way we cause
air pollution is through emissions from vehicles, and even greenhouses use fossil fuels, the greenhouse
effect makes it warmer. How the greenhouse effect works is that chemicals are let out into the
atmosphere then some of the chemicals absorbs heat, some examples of greenhouse gases are nitrous
oxide , methane, ozone, and carbon dioxide. Another way man causes climate change is by the use of
aerosol cans and product. Aerosols effect on Earth s climate is that it will scatter light

Personal Philosophy Of Nursing Research Paper
According to Jones and Bartlett, nursing is a complex profession and involves multiple types of
consumers of nursing care (e.g., individuals, families, communities, and populations), multiple types
of problems. These problems can be physical, emotional, sociological, economical, and educational.
They occur in multiple settings that include: hospitals, clinics, communities, and schools), and
specialties within each of these. Without nurses, healthcare in itself will fall apart. Nurses are
multitaskers, critical thinkers, and advocates for our patients. Nursing is not a profession anyone can
do, you have to be passionate and care for people. My personal philosophy is based off of my

  • 2. Social Media s Role In Presidential Campaigns Social media websites have been gaining popularity and record amounts of users since the early 2000s, but in recent years social media has started to have an important role in presidential campaigns. Barack Obama, president of the United States from 2009 to 2017, is regarded as the first social media president and since his time in office, the use of social media has only continued to expand. The use of websites such as Twitter, Facebook, and YouTube have become key components in the election of the president and their time in office. This importance can particularly be seen by examining the most recent presidential election in 2016. The 2016 campaign season, election, and subsequent presidency of Republican candidate, Donald Trump, are largely considered to be unlike any other in the history of America. Unlike campaigns in the past, every detail of the 2016 process was shared online. Not only did the public use ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Fake news is defined by Hunt Allcott and Matthew Gentzkow as news articles that are intentionally and verifiably false, and could mislead readers. Facebook, in particular, had a significant issue with the spread of fake news reports and articles during the 2016 election. An increasing number of residents in the United States are creating social media accounts and turning to these websites for quick access to political knowledge and social media companies are struggling to slow the spread of fake news. • 3. Kristen Stewart On Gay Marriage Analysis We are beings of an era where gay marriage, gay concentration camps, president trump, the blazing gayness of Kristen Stewart and section 377 exists in our very own beloved nation, at the same time akin to a truly disastrous game of Chinese whisper at an awful party (whothefuckplayschinesewhisperanymore) after which we all return to their homes resigned to the realisation that this is the strangest timeline of them all. Regardless, we as queer humans of this rather disorienting generation have much to be grateful for because we simple don t know how to stop all the gay from showing everywhere and more and more of our fellow beings have made peace with the fact that Kristen Stewart has set her eyes on the vast and very gay dating pool that Hollywood has to offer whilst her rolled up denims and vans effectively raises the middlefinger in a Tarantinoesqe effect to the high school bitchfest of the tabloids. • 7. The Impact Of Technology On The Financial Sector SOCIAL In the years since the 2008/2009 financial crisis, mistrust of the banking and financing industry remains high (Erman, 2013). This provides a unique challenge across the financial sector, including the relevant interior industries of investment banking and venture capital. Once the market crashed and the mechanics behind it came to light, a large portion of the American populace dramatically shifted their opinions in regards to the financial sector. This sentiment came to a head two years after the collapse with the creation of the Occupy Wall Street movement (Erman, 2013). While not the sole cause, pressure from the American public played a part in the increased regulation that the financial sector sees today including the Dodd Frank Act. A large part of this negative backlash was due to an inherent misunderstanding of the inner workings of the financial system (Erman, 2013). However, a lack financial knowledge did not mean the backlash was any less successful. TECHNOLOGY The industry wide effects of technology can be seen from both an internal and external perspective. Internally, the industry is technologically advancing as all industries are. In person, brick and mortar company evaluations and investments are increasingly being done via computer instead. This has lowered overhead costs and has increased the computing power of those making the investments. Externally, the boom in technology is providing a plethora of investment opportunities. • 13. Material Flows And Inventory Policy During Military Scm Material Flows and Inventory Policy in Military SCM According to Major Joshua M. Lenzini in his article Anticipatory Logistics: The Army s Answer to Supply Chain Management, Supply chain management is similar for both corporate and military organizations. However, some significant differences are evident in these models. The first is the absence of maintenance on the corporate model. Another is that transportation, distribution, and warehousing are unidirectional in the corporate model but dual directional in the military model (see Figure 3, Lenzini, 2002)). This backward flow is called reverse logistics, and although it is not unique to military supply networks it is uniquely critical. Figure 3: Schematic of differences for Corporate (left) and Military (right) SCM (Lenzini, 2002). Reverse logistics constitutes the value recovery process for reparable spares. It is important because theoretically is has considerable impact on the supply chain as it is the feedback loop. The reverse stage starts from the military units, to the maintenance depots, and then back to the forward supply chain to the units. The responsiveness of the reverse pipeline then becomes crucial to support sustained operations when higher than expected failure rates in equipment occur, resulting in temporary spikes or sustained surges in demand. Recent data analysis indicates that the ratio of issues to returns across deployed units is highly variable, ranging between 40 percent and almost 100 ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In these stories, the main characters, Montresor and Emily, both suffer from mental illness, which causes them later on in the story to lose their sense of humanity and commit murder. Both Montresor and Emily believe that they have been wronged, and thus seek revenge on the ones who have wronged them by murdering them. Montresor murders his rival by burying him alive, and Emily by poisoning and preserving her boyfriend s dead body. • 15. The Ballet Of The Italian Renaissance Essay Ballet originated in the Italian Renaissance courts of the 15th century and later developed into a concert dance form in France and Russia. Barre is French for bar, and a barre has been used in ballet training as a support to help with balance while practicing traditional ballet technique. Modern barre techniques can be traced back to Lotte Berk who, like Joseph Pilates, fled Germany because of the Nazis. (Lotte Berk fled to the UK in 1938 because she was Jewish, while Pilates fled to New York City supposedly because the Nazis wanted to recruit him to train the uber German body). Lotte Berk developed a fitness regime in the UK that incorporated barre and other dance related and core strengthening exercises. Her technique was popular in the sixties and seventies in New York city and other cities around the world. Since then other individuals and companies have developed barre programs that use a ballet barre and incorporate different fitness concepts. Now there are many fitness franchises in the US that incorporate the ballet barre. How is Ellie Herman s Brooklyn Barre different from other Barre Methods? While many of the current barre methods do exercises that may make your legs and tummy look good, they ultimately can damage the knee joints and lumbar spine. Neutral Pelvis v. Curley s Wife Description Throughout most of the book Curley s wife strikes us as a compelling and riveting character as we initially see her as a wicked character till those few seconds before she dies where you think, hey she might not be so bad after all. In the novel of Of mice Mice and men Men Curley s wife s image is portrayed as a very sexual, flirtatious, cheeky and desperate. Steinbeck uses specific words, sentences and techniques to create the image of Curley s wife as one that is very contrasting. Steinbeck creates contrasting representations of Curley s wife using the phrase and the meanness and planning and discontent and the ache for attention with were all gone. The juxtaposition of the two phrases is used to show the reader that all her bad qualities and all her obnoxiousness has all been washed away and it has disappeared into thin air and we actually start to somewhat feel pity for this character that we had thought to be a b***h and a tart. • 19. The Book The Ghost Writer In the book The Ghost Writer, the story is centered around Nathan Zuckerman, who struggles with whether his Jewish identity should affect how his story about Jewish people is interpreted. As a result, Roth presents a series of characters that have jewish related backgrounds, including E. I. Lonoff, Amy Bellette who resembles Anne Frank, for Nathan to observe and learn from. However, there is Hope, the wife of Lonoff, who seems to have none of the things Nathan needs; she is not jewish, neither a writer, but only a determined and thoughtful woman who prefer depth over boredom in life. Philip Roth chooses to include her in the novel to present that even without the context of identity, being a pure artist is dangerous to oneself and the surrounding love ones. With the huge success of E. I. Lonoff on professional career and his bad temper on personal life, one would expect his wife to be only a subsequent character who serves the purpose of supporting him. Such conclusion can be made when looking at Hope s language when interacting with Nathan in front of Lonoff. Under normal relationships between a couple, one should not need to explain another to their guests to make the guests feel more respected. However, when Lonoff is directing Nathan on the subject of apology, Hope feels the necessity of her interrupting the conversation, to explain and emphasize Lonoff s good intentions behind the imperative voice and the superiority feelings (39) of him. The term auteur theory, originating in France in the 1950 s, is a French word that means author and in the world of cinema that would mean the director is the one who is the major creative force behind the film. As stated in the article The Auteur Theory, the term author carries another association namely, the idea of a lone, individual creator. With the word auteur being involved it means that the director is not only the one in charge of directing the film, he would have say or input of other mediums like for instance a painter or a writer. His shot of facial expressions in the film is startling especially in Shadow of a Doubt because it showed changes in personality in an instance. Led by chairman Terence Conran, however, Hepworth Son made a bold move to remake itself completely at the start of the 1980s. In 1981 the company acquired the Kendalls retail store chain. Elements Of Catholicism And Voodoo A religion can be defined as a system of belief that manifest, to some degree, the following eight elements: belief system, community, central myths, ritual, ethics, characteristic emotional experience, material expression, and sacredness. Depending on the religion, some of these elements may carry more weight than others. I will look at Catholicism and Voodoo and the role some of these elements play within these systems of belief. Catholicism is a monotheistic religion believing that God is the Creator of all that is. We must love and serve God in our daily life, through prayer and good works, in order to achieve salvation. The element of central myths plays a large role within the Catholic faith, as the Bible is the core of Catholic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Eucharist is when we receive the body and blood of Christ through the symbols of bread and wine. It further extends the initiation that took place at baptism to enter fully into the heart of Christian faith through participation in the Eucharist (catholic.org,2017). Confirmation is the final step of initiation. It is receiving the gift of the Holy Spirit that unites us more firmly with Christ and strengthens our bond with the Church. The remaining four Sacraments guide us through the rest of our life. The Sacrament of Penance is received regularly to confess our sins and seek forgiveness so that we may remain in God s grace. The Sacrament of Marriage takes place when two people commit to spend the rest of their life together, anointing of the sick is when a priest anoints a sick person with oil and offers prayers, and Holy Orders is the sacrament that takes place with the ordination of a bishop, priest, or deacon into ministry (Molloy, M., 2010). Voodoo is also a monotheistic religion that combines Catholic and African beliefs and is often surrounded by many misconceptions. Voodoo has been portrayed by the media as a form of devil worship and curses, with Voodoo dolls being used to inflict pain on one s enemies (ancient origins.net). With appropriate equipment that is well maintained and right for the job, a job should be accomplished quickly and easily. When vehicle parts are not maintained or used properly, problems may happen. Other than the pumps, the main trouble with any new or used septic trucks that are part of a work fleet are the results of improper use and maintenance of the hoses. Keeping Hoses Working Naturally, a dirty suction line that is allowed to collect material inside it when not regularly and properly cleaned is going to have a problem siphoning anything. This problem is frequently experienced after purchasing used septic trucks as it is impossible to know if a previous owner cleaned the hoses correctly. At best, vacuuming could be inefficient; at its worst, it could stop altogether when the lines get clogged. The answer is to always keep hoses stored clean and empty, although there is a definite trick to doing this. Normally, operators can clear out dirty suction lines by keeping the pump on even when done working in order to clear out any remaining material left in the hose when the pumps were shut down. Once there is nothing left to vacuum, the pumps will no longer suction as there is not a vacuum in the tank, although the tubes should be empty at that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Within the state of Maryland, public school students in third through eighth grade take the annual PARCC (Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers) assessment. The PARCC Assessment consists of reading and mathematics sections. The assessment for each grade level consists of at least 7 units. Typically one day is designated for each unit. Thus, while planning these shadowing experiences, I ensured that I did not visit on a testing day. For this experience, I chose to visit an elementary school and its feeder middle school. I chose this because students leave this elementary school with a high rate of student achievement, yet in middle school the scores plummet. I wanted to investigate how this gap could be minimized. Comparing philosophies, expectations and leadership styles for schools within the same community was also a goal. My first shadowing experience was on April 6, 2017 in a Prince Gorges County Public School middle school facility. As I entered the building, I was greeted by a young man (a student) holding the door for me. How polite I thought to myself. He then directed me to the office. The topics regarding Bear Stearns, the Lehman Brothers and their collapse, and the huge bailout made in results to the market crash. There were great points being made on the mistakes Henry Paulson and Ben Bernanke did not view from their perspective, which in turns were the problems that made up the crash. It was not until 2007 when foreclosures occurred more and became prominent, especially since the last market crash during the Great Depression. As Gretchen Morgenson of the New York Times discusses, Bear Stearns was known for his great plays with mortgages on Wall Street. People who believed Stearns would pull the right decisions became scared as the values of their assets were decreasing. This created a necessitated attitude towards money since their was money being borrowed fighting against the collaterals, in turns the assets. When the assets started to decline, you need to start paying back money to those you have borrowed from. Roughly $1.6 billion was discarded in Stearns decisions, which was the start to the stress he would obtain from the crash. This enabled the world to see how weak the market was, especially those who had a role within the market. We will attend Betsy s graduation from Miss Hall s School in Massachusetts then drive to Alexandria Bay to spend the summer on Comfort Island. I thought back to the day in 1956 when my dad and I scanned the 1885 photo of Comfort Island with the magnifying glass. I wondered then and for the five years that followed if we would ever make the trip there as he promised. My older sister, Betsy, had visited Comfort Island briefly with Mom and Dad in 1948 after completing first grade, but my other sister, Deborah, was only one at the time, and I was two. We weren t invited to go. Instead, we stayed home in California with a very sweet nanny named Field. I have Dad s diaries dating from 1960 1975, which allows me to record these early years with greater accuracy. Each diary covers a five year span. The leather bound journals are six inches high and four and one half inches wide. There are four lines allotted for recording the events for each of the five years. • 36. Marketing Strategy Of Vodafone Telecommunications: Company Vodafone Vodafone is a British multinational telecommunications company which operates its own networks in 26 countries and has partner networks in over 50 countries. Such a wide range of markets makes Vodafone apply different marketing strategies to satisfy customers needs and make profits from it. This chapter of the essay will focus on EU s and Indian marketing strategies of Vodafone to prove the importance of having different marketing strategies in different markets. The market in the EU is relatively mature compared with the Indian market. In a mature market of telecommunications the number of consumers of a mobile network is relatively steady. On Financial Times website, in Daniel Thomas s (2014) article Vodafone continues its evolution and widens European foothold , he describes the marketing strategy of Vodafone in EU specifically. Now the main strategy in EU is about expending Vodafone s business to other fields including the broadband and TV markets. In order to realize the business expending Vodafone began to purchase other companies like Ono of Spain, Cable Wireless Worldwide in the UK and Kabel Deutschland in Germany which provide such service to customers. Also Building Vodafone s own network in Italy, Spain and Portugal is another strategy used for business expending. Daniel Thomas (2014) mentioned Mr. Colao CEO of Vodafone describes the strategy of Vodafone in EU s market as the next chapter . Mr. Colao also pointed that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 37. Core Principles Values Of Effective Team Based Health Care In their discussion paper Core principles values of effective team based health care , Mitchell et al (2012), identified mutual trust in teams as one of 5 principles of effective team based healthcare. Within healthcare though there are numerous examples of where a and abuse of trust, misplacement of trust or a culture of distrust, have adversely impacted on patient care as documented in the Shipman Inquiry (2005); the Francis Report (2010) and the Bristol Royal Infirmary Inquiry (2001). To examine the issue of why trust is important for effective team working in healthcare, the author will begin by reviewing definitions of trust, trustworthiness and the psychological approaches to trust development before considering the potential impacts that trust has on team working and performance. An overview of how trust can be nurtured and developed within the context of healthcare teams will also identify the role of leaders in building a climate for trust to be developed. Defining trust 723 Interpersonal trust was defined by Rousseau, Sitkin, Burt and Camerer (1998, p 395), as the intention to accept vulnerability based upon positive expectations of the intentions or behaviour of another. This link to vulnerability between trustor (the giving party) and trustee (the receiving party) was also captured by Mayer et al. (1995 p. 712) who defined trust as the willingness of a party to be vulnerable to the actions of another party based on the expectations that the other ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 38. The City s Statute Violate The Equal Protection Clauses The City s statute provides, No person over the age 10 shall use a public restroom assigned to the opposite sex of that which is listed on the person s birth certificate. Violation of this section is a misdemeanor, punishable by law . The plaintiff s contention is that the city s statute violates the equal protection Clause of the 14th Amendment. Since the classification at issue involves gender of the users of the public restrooms, it falls within the quasi suspect categories. Therefore, this city must meet the intermediate scrutiny standard. This city statute requires the citizens at the age of 10 or older to use the public restroom designated for their gender as listed on their birth certificates. When the government enacts a law ... Where a gender neutral alternative is available, the gender discriminatory classification is not said to be the least intrusive means that the government can use, and therefore, the classification put forward by the government is not necessary . However, the government would be required to show that the means they use is necessary and narrowly tailored to advance its objectives only under strict scrutiny. Where the classification is not invidious, not selecting the least discriminatory means would not necessarily render the statute violative of equal protection. Rostker v. Goldberg, 453 U.S. 57, 101 S. Ct. 2646 (1981). As established supra, it is the intermediate scrutiny standard that applies to the present issue, and the City only needs to prove that its objective is important and the statutory classification is substantially related to that objective. It is not necessary for the City to pursue the least discriminatory means to pass the judicial review. The City will withstand intermediate ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Legal Consciousness And The United States In this essay, we will discuss the term of legal consciousness, and the importance of why the concept was developed and most importantly the weaknesses and strengths of legal consciousness in the United States. We will then look together to first define what is legal consciousness? Legal consciousness is what people think and say about the law. It is often referred to as social consciousness. More simply put, legal consciousness is the attitude people with regards to the law and this may vary amongst people from different class, gender, educational backgrounds, race, ethnicity and political views. It is the legal awareness of the public about the law and how the law works and what is legal vs. illegal. An individual s legal consciousness gives meaning to one s perspective of how they think about the law. Legal consciousness changed with time and space according to legal scholars. Legal consciousness helps us differentiate the gap between the law on he book and the law in action (Susan S. Silbey, page 1). Ewick Silbey describe consciousness as engaging in the social movement and predominance. (Susan S. Silbey, page 333). Ewick and Silbey describe as before, with, and against the law, are described asa the cultural tool kit from which popular understandings of legality are constructed (Susan S. Silbey, page 349). • 40. Sense Of Sublimity In Alfred Hitchcock s The Birds Popular phrases such as Well, that s beyond me . . . What racks my brain is . . . or I can t wrap my head around that are simple contemporary idioms inadvertently attempting to communicate a sense of confusion, wonder, and admiration, though not without a touch of fear (Janowitz). Words perhaps not commonly used to describe Alfred Hitchcock s classic which is nearing its fifty fifth birthday. Yet, the campy, middle aged, prototypal film remains unsettling, frightening, and substantially sublime. Therefore, what exactly cements this film in infamy? What makes its presence essential to the libraries of eco critic s far and wide? Well, The Birds utilizes Hitchcock s crafty use of common cinematic techniques to conjure a sustaining sense of sublimity; the bird s infiniteness, their bouts of terrorism, and their symbolism illustrates several character s conflicts and loss of power permeating throughout the film with climatic moments illuminated by his many artful methods. For instance, Hitchcock initially builds a sense of sublimity by accumulating birds in a way that represent the incomprehensibility and infiniteness of nature a characteristic of a sublimity. His attempt to illustrate infinity fills the mind with a sort of delightful horror (Burke). The choice to reiterate the very concept is shown in the first setting in which the movie takes place: San Francisco. A place crowded with people, architecture, and a general absence of nature only shown to be caged or encircling the citizens below. The birds are suspiciously swarming the sky and only one citizens take notice the main character, Melanie. She is particularly caught by the commotion in the sky pausing to ponder their existence, only briefly, and then finally entering the bird shop. This minor event is important to the foreshadowing of dramatic action and the explanation of the bird s existence. Nonetheless, a better more riveting technique is explored later in the film. Hitchcock s ability to accumulate suspense not only throughout his film but in compressed context, too, is impressive. The famous scene where Melanie is waiting for Mitch s sister to be released from school exemplifies his ability. The dramatic irony of the scene is the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 45. The World Of A Capitalistic Society Living in a capitalistic society, we are constantly bombarded with the notion of buying from large brand named corporations in order to save money. But I bring up the question, is this really helping you and your family in the end, or the billionaires living at the top? Large corporations allow for small businesses to essentially diminish before our very eyes. While buying from stores such as Walmart, Target, and Home Depot, you are stripping away business production that can be done here on American soil. As our economy is depleting itself and we extend ourselves higher into debt, the only people we have to blame are the consumers. By buying from local produce stands and farmers markets, we cut the cost of travel time and the resources needed to get to the store. Buying local can also bring money into the community while the food is healthier and fresher for the family to enjoy. As times grow tough for American families, we are constantly in search for products to fit our needs, while also fitting the bill. What numerous consumers don t realize is that by spending a few extra cents on vegetables or clothing made in the community, we are not only providing an income for our people but we can become sustainable as well. Sustainability is key to becoming a prosperous nation. By cutting our dependence off of major countries like China, this will not only bring back jobs but also decrease the vast trade deficit we have with these global competitors. Animals, except fish, are going extinct due to not having grass to eat. There isn t any fresh water so we have to boil our water over terribly hot fires. The nights are freezing cold and the days are extremely hot with humid thick air, even sometimes there are immensely strong rainstorms of acid rain. Our world doesn t need to be like this; Man is the cause of climate change due to the overuse of fossil fuels, using aerosol products, and even deforestation.. sw3The most impactful way man causes climate change is through burning fossil fuels, we as humans cause air pollution directly through our use of gases, electricity and transportation. Also air pollution can be caused indirectly, when we buy our food and other goods it uses energy to create, clean, and ship the item. The foremost way we cause air pollution is through emissions from vehicles, and even greenhouses use fossil fuels, the greenhouse effect makes it warmer. How the greenhouse effect works is that chemicals are let out into the atmosphere then some of the chemicals absorbs heat, some examples of greenhouse gases are nitrous oxide , methane, ozone, and carbon dioxide.
