The Rise of a Mash-up Culture Essay
A great deal has been said about the move from physical media to a ubiquitous, digital culture. Some
decry the downfall of the vinyl record, falling compact disc sales, the cheapening and degrading of an
art form. I ll try to stay away from unverifiable judgements about the direction modern culture is
moving in. More interesting is the way musical creation is changing as a result of new technologies,
whether we like it or not. What comes to mind is hyperreality what Jean Baudrillard called the
generation by models of a real without origin or reality (166). Digital representations, originally
intended to recreate the original sound waves of the music, are losing their point of origin and
becoming musical works on their own. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Its pointless to look for the original blueprint of a digital representation, because it s independent of
the hardware it s stored in, and meaningful only in the information it encodes. Hyperreality results
from a loss of distinction between the representations and the things they re intended to represent. In
our culture, the separation between a song and the digital file of a song is becoming trivial. Computers
allow information to be torn free of its original context, and reinterpreted upon retrieval.
Representation engines are the ideal enablers of hyperreality, giving almost limitless power to reorder
simulacra upon simulacra.
The internet takes the representational capacities of computers, and spreads them over a vast symbolic
network. Anyone with an internet connection instantly gains manipulative control over a whole world
of digital abstractions. These have the unique property of not being tied down to any specific physical
origin. It follows that they re infinitely recreatable, and intimately tied to their user defined context.
This decontextualization began, to a lesser extent, with the advent of audio cassettes, allowing the
creation of mix tapes. A mix tape lets the listener take small parts (usually whole songs) from different
physical source material (records), and combine them into a new whole, consisting of copied parts.
This process, known as dubbing, creates an experience that is, at least in part, distinct from each

Eastlyn Koons Robots Are Better Than Humans
The increased development of artificial intelligence and the everyday use of technology can lead to a
future full of robots, claims Eastlyn Koons in Robots are Better than Humans. Koons lives in the
modern day where advancements are being made every day in the field of technology and artificial
intelligence machines have started to replace the jobs of some people. People fear the uprising of robot
rebellion and an inevitable Doomsday because of it. Through appeals to fear and pride, Koons asks the
world to consider the use of technology in their lives and the role it may play in the future. Koons
starts off the intro of her satirical essay by using sarcasm and rhetorical in order to show the audience
what is happening with the world at that time and establish the satire of her essay. In the first sentence,
Koons claims that robots are better than humans, as they are humans favorite things , suggesting that
the humans basically created their own better version. Koons utilizes a rhetorical question to ask why
humans are still there , showcasing the dispensability and non necessity of humans when robots are
present. By doing so, Koons demonstrates that humans have, in a way, become the cause of their own
downfall. After establishing the satirical nature of her essay, Koons sets the context to explain the
reasoning behind the essay. She talks about ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She uses words such as poor, misunderstood machines , fellow lifeforms , and blessings in the form of
metal when referring to the AI machines to seem like she is feeling pity for them, slightly ironic
considering the amount of times she mentioned that they had no feelings. The use of these words add
to the sarcasm, as well as the exclamation mark at the end after she seems to almost insult the
intelligence and mindset of humans. By using these certain phrases, Koons adds to the satire and

The Pros And Cons Of GMO Products
1. a/b. Currently, in GMO production, the focus crops are soybeans, rapeseed/canola, and cotton,
along with many others that still have been worked on, but not quite ready for cultivation. Soybeans
have been modified to possess a gene that causes the plants to become herbicide resistant. In order for
the plant to become herbicide resistant, either an existing gene has been switched off, or a new gene
has been added to the plant. Currently, Argentina and the United States are the only countries without
major restrictions regarding GM soybeans, and they can be treated and cultivated just like non
modified soybeans. GM soybeans are primarily used as animal feed due to its high protein content, but

disease, naturally contain herbicides and pesticides, taste better and have a higher nutritional value,
and have a longer shelf life in stores. Those against GMOs argue that they are a risk to human health,
a risk to the environment, a risk to farmers in developing countries, and a risk to organic farmers. 2.

The Impact Of National Football League And National...
Introduction In Baseball, statistics are in abundance. Unlike the National Football League and the
National Basketball Association, Major League Baseball(MLB) does not have a salary cap. This has
caused a lot of randomness in salaries. The salaries of teams also varies quite a bit as well. From the
data I have used, in 2015, the Los Angeles Dodgers salary was almost five times higher than the
Miami Marlins. What would cause such a disparity? Being a Baltimore Orioles fan and my father
being a New York Yankee fan, we would argue statistics and I usually would have a less than
substantial argument for my beloved Orioles. My father would say 25, implying the number of
pennants the Yankees had. Given this was about eight years ago, I had not taken a statistics class. I
did, without research, argue that the Baltimore Orioles do more with their salary. While thinking of a
regression earlier this semester, I wanted to run a regression of team wins on the city size. My theory
was larger cities meant higher salaries and in turn more wins because of the higher salaries. I ran the
regression and found the results to be very insignificant and had no basis of explaining the wins of a
team. A recent outcome in Baseball, blew my theory out of the water. The Kansas City Royals play in
the third smallest market according to metropolitan size.(1) The Royals are also 13th on a list of
highest salaries in the MLB.(3) The Royals won the 2015 World Series. There is a lot of randomness

This chapter provides some background information relating to the core of the thesis.
1.1. WIRELESS NETWORKING INTRODUCTION
Wireless networking is an emerging technology that allows users to access information and services
electronically, regardless of their geographic position. The use of wireless communication between
mobile users has become increasingly popular due to recent performance advancements in computer
and wireless technologies. This has led to lower prices and higher data rates, which are the two main
reasons why mobile computing is expected to see increasingly widespread use and ... Show more

1.1. MOBILE AD HOC NETWORKS
1.1.1. Overview of Mobile Ad Hoc Networks
A Mobile Ad Hoc Network (MANET) consists of a set of mobile hosts that carry out basic networking
functions like packet forwarding, routing, and service discovery without the help of an established
infrastructure [1]. Nodes of an ad hoc network rely on one another in forwarding a packet to its
destination, due to the limited range of each mobile host s wireless transmissions. An ad hoc network
uses no centralized administration. This ensures that the network will not cease functioning just
because one of the mobile nodes moves out of the range of the others. Nodes should be able to enter
and leave the network as they wish. Because of the limited transmitter range of the nodes, multiple
hops are generally needed to reach other nodes. Every node in an ad hoc network must be willing to
forward packets for other nodes. Thus, every node acts both as a host and as a router. The topology of
ad hoc networks varies with time as nodes move, join or leave the network. This topological
instability requires a routing protocol to run on each node to create and maintain routes among the
nodes [21].

The Giver Community Is A Dystopia Essay
The giver community is a dystopia. I know this because when you compare the giver community to
our world it takes a minute but I guarantee it is a dystopia, you can see this because on the out side
looking in, you know all of the secrets that make up the giver community. another reason it is a
dystopia is because when people imagine a perfect world it is not anything like the community of the
giver, lastly is the fact that the government plans out people s lives. I will go into detail and make
many other points in this essay about both sides of this question.
The giver community is a dystopia first of all because when you are on the outside looking in, you
know that the whole community is made up of secrets. You know that people can ... Show more

This is just one of the many examples in the book that show that the government can control your life.
Not to mention how they also control your significant other, your job, your siblings, and your life
decisions, and even your personality traits. Just think about no being able to choose the person your
supposed to love and get through life together with.
You could argue that the community is a utopia because everyone is happy and that the people not
knowing what is going on is a good thing. Or that people not saying mean things and expressing what
they truly feel is a good thing because it won t cause arguments and fights. Even the fact that people
don t have a choice with family and more importantly significant others could mean that there are no
divorces and no fights about who Marries who. Another example why it could be a utopia is that
people don t have to choose their jobs so they don t need too tire themselves out working super hard
just to get the job that you want. I agree that the government choosing and planning your whole life
out for you can be a good thing. But their are so many other bad things about the community that it
outweighs all of the good.
In conclusion I think that the leader is dehumanizing the community and focusing too much on the
requirements to have a utopia and not how the actual citizens would feel if they knew

Perkins Coie Biography
To Perkins Coie,
I, Charles Louis de Secondat baron de La Brède et de Montesquieu, would be extremely grateful if I
were to become a member of the Perkins Coie international law firm. In my life, I have contributed a
great deal in political philosophy and with my experiences and contributions, I am the ideal candidate
to become a member of this organization. After I completed my general studies at the Oratorian
Collège de Juilly in 1705 and received my law degree from the University of Bordeaux in 1708, I
went to Paris to further my practice in law. However, once my father died 1713, I had to return to
Bordeaux and manage the La Brède estates from my mother s prior death. Then, in 1716, my uncle,
Jean Baptiste baron de Montesquieu also died, in which I received the Montesquieu barony and the
position of deputy president in the Bordeaux Parliament. Eventually, I left my wife to manage the
estates in Bordeaux as I returned to Paris to obtain positions in the court system of Paris and the
French Academy. I decided to continue my personal education by traveling throughout Europe from
1728 until 1731. I traveled to Austria, Hungary, Italy, Germany, Holland, and England, the nation
where I was influenced the most. Here, I connected with several English dukes and politicians, having

to desire and gain total control of the government. In order to prevent this situation, checks and

and each body has personal powers and the responsibility to check that the other bodies are not
abusing their powers. In addition to checks and balances, I established that there are three types of

Life Is Beautiful Film Analysis
Life is Beautiful Movie Analysis
Life is Beautiful, directed by Italian director Roberto Benigni, released in 1997, is a film about love,
war and death. Set just before and during WWII, the main character, Guido falls in love with the
woman of his dreams, they have a child but they get separated by the horrors of the war. Guido and his
little son strive to get reunited with his wife but their internment in a Nazi concentration camp halts
him from doing so. Nevertheless, he slyly keeps in contact with his wife so she knows they are safe
and well.
Roberto Benigni uses cinematic techniques such as music, costume and lighting to convey the strong
theme of love between two characters in the film Life is Beautiful.
In Life is Beautiful, the love between two people is a recurring theme. The music, composed by Italian
light classical composer Nicola Piovani, is one of the major factors that helps successfully convey this
theme to the audience.
In the film, the same upbeat tune is used for many of the romantic scenes between Guido and Dora.
This tune, in a more subtle tone, is the theme song for the film, and when it is repeated for the
romantic themes it gives a powerful sense of love. For example, when Dora falls out of that farm
house, and Guido catches her, the music is used for the first time in a romantic setting. The same
music is then repeated in the scene at the 11 minute mark when Guido falls off his bike into Dora and
they both fall over into a big pile of sand. This

Atlantis Research Paper
Over the years, there have been plenty of islands that have disappeared. However, one island has has
been given a ton of attention. This island is called Atlantis and was referenced in the greek philosopher
Plato s work. The people that inhabited the Atlantis were supposed to be very advanced compared to
other civilizations. History.com says, Plato (through the character Critias in his dialogues) describes
Atlantis as an island larger than Libya and Asia Minor put together, located in the Atlantic just beyond
the Pillars of Hercules generally assumed to mean the Strait of Gibraltar. The island eventually sank
into the sea due to earthquakes and flooding. Many people thought Plato s book was just a myth until
in a scholar claimed it might ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One theory is that Atlantis was a mid atlantic island that sunk into the ocean. This is very plausible
because of the fact that this part of ocean is only a few hundred feet deep. This means that an
earthquake could have very well weakened the foundation of the island. Then, if it did flood to like
Plato said then it could have easily sunk into the sea floor. This is what Palto explains in his book but
there also could have been many other ways that the island was destroyed, from tsunamis to volcanos.
Next, another theory is that Atlantis was swallowed by the bermuda triangle. This myth could also
very well be true because there are what looks like man made walls and streets off the coast of Bimini,
although scientist evaluate the structures and found them to be natural rock formation. Finally, the last
theory is that Atlantis was Antarctica. History.com explains According to Hapgood, around 12,000
years ago the Earth s crust shifted, displacing the continent that became Antarctica from a location
much further north than it is today. This more temperate continent was home to an advanced
civilization, but the sudden shift to its current frigid location doomed the civilization s inhabitants the
Atlanteans and their magnificent city was buried under layers of ice. Hapgood s theory surfaced
before the scientific world gained a full understanding of plate tectonics, which largely relegated his
shifting crust idea to the fringes of Atlantean beliefs. This explains that explorers that are looking for
atlantis may truly be in the wrong place, instead of looking through the sea they should be digging
through ice. There are many plausible theories out there but all of them are either missing evidence or
need more investigation. Therefore there are plenty of theros that explain Atlantis

Trip Trips For The New Years Day Parade
One thing that is on every bucket list is traveling abroad, or traveling to Paris, or going overseas, or
some variation of that, and if one is lucky enough then hopefully one day that dream will come true. I
know personally how stressful it can be to plan a trip abroad; I have traveled to London twice, and

traveling. Today, I am here to tell you about the stresses and joys of planning a trip abroad; from
planning what your destination/s will be to planning your outfits for the trip, I will try to cover
everything that you can possible need to know. The first thing you need to do when thinking of
traveling abroad is getting all the details planned or at least think them out. You need to figure out
your main destination, you can later add on other destinations but you should know where you want to

Research Paper On Quitting A Job
Quitting A Job A job to many people might be a new opportunity to improve their financial status, yet,
to others like myself it can be a tortuous experience one may have not been ready for. Long shifts, low
pay, co workers, bosses, and stress are the biggest reasons why many people believe they want to quit
their job. Although, quitting a job is never easy for anyone even for those who dislike it. To some the
process of resigning can be extremely difficult to plan and carry out. Through Personal experience I
have found a way to resign accordingly, here are steps to do in order to quit a job. First step to quitting
is having a plan. Before deciding whether to quit or not, be sure that this decision is the right for you.
Think about the advantages and disadvantages the job you have now offers you. For Example, if
income was the problem. be prepared to find a job with higher pay. Apply for jobs beforehand and ask
questions regarding problems from your current job. Strive to find jobs with fields that interest you.
There are four things to consider about when applying for jobs: salary, benefits, environment, and
schedule. Once the job search has ended and a new job is found, work at the new job with vacation
hours or on your free time to have a sense of what you are about to bestow upon. Inform the new
employer of the situation you are currently facing and ask if they can provide flexible hours during the
resigning process. After you are sure you want the new job, then comes the

The Media s Influence On Contemporary Society
Scholars have debated the media s increasing influence within contemporary society, and shaping of
identities. It has been suggested that the media provides us with limited notions and materials to brand
ourselves, which involve the notion behind being a man or woman and differentiate the means of bad
or good. There are various prominent mediums used by the media to convey or direct a message.
Images from media arbitrated precepts tend to become the conception of the individual s self. Vigorito
and Curry (1998, p. 136) indicate that pop culture is increasingly visual and images seen in the media
tend to convey the ideal cultural norms, values and gender relations. These images are not subtle, but
explicit notions of what is acceptable in society and how we as individuals should look and think in
the public eye. In the twenty first century, gender equality has been held in high regard both in the
macro and micro levels of social and professional contexts. Gender is defined by the features society
expects from a male or female depending on their biological sex. According to multiple scholars,
research on masculinity and male depiction has become a major focus due to gender becoming a
social construct subject to historical change. In the following study I wish to determine how the ideal
male and masculinity is understood and defined, how the male identity and masculinity is portrayed in
film, computer games and advertising, and how these representations have changed over time.

In spite of the fact that she was bound to her home, she tried to affirm her basic rights, to oppose the

Carlos Erikson s Theory Of Psychosocial Development
Presenting the Case
Carlos Sanchez is a 15 year old Puerto Rican male. He presents to my office today for a visit after a
referral from his school counselor. Mr. Sanchez s performance at school has been declining post a
fight in which he was involved in at school. According to the school, four White students engaged Mr.
Sanchez in a physical altercation, during which racial slurs were used. Mr. Sanchez s mother reports
behavioral changes; including loss of appetite, lack of sleep, physical decline, isolation, jumpiness,
and stress after the fight.
Theoretical Framework
Psychosocial Theory
Erik Erikson believed that the social environment plays an important role in personality development,
and thus he developed the theory of psychosocial development. Erikson believed that that personality
development occurs throughout our lifespan, and highlighted the influence of family system, society,
and culture in our development. Erikson accepted Freud s basic psychosexual framework and he
expanded on the development at each stage and expanded the stages to cover the lifespan. Erikson
believed that at each stage we gain attitudes and skills that make us active and contributing members
of society.
Per Erikson, our ego identity is constantly changing due to new experiences and information that we
acquire throughout our daily interactions with others. In addition to ego identity, Erikson also believed
that a sense of competence also motivates behaviors and actions, and that each

The Importance Of Faith And Belief
Human beings have an inherent faith and belief system regardless of whether they are aware of it. It
originates from traditions and upbringing and is the center of one s being. Faith and belief have
different content and methods of questioning and understanding the content. It is important to
understand the difference and not to interchange faith and belief because it can cause
misunderstandings and negative consequences. William K. Clifford and Paul Tillich define faith and
faith through descriptions of what they are, what they are not, and how one can reach good faith and
belief through asking the right questions based on types of doubt. As a result of faith and belief being
elements of the total person and the impact that one s person has on faith and belief, it is essential to
know the discrepancies between each.
According to Tillich, faith is a matter of ultimate concern that promises total fulfillment (Tillich, 1).
Concern is content that is infinite and valued at the core of human beings. Ultimate refers to
something that is put above all other values and involves sacrifice as it orients our lives to reach an
infinite goal of fulfillment. Faith is an act of the total personality (Tillich, 4). It comes from the center
of our being and includes all aspects of a person s life. Genuine faith requires existential doubt which
involves questioning even when a finite answer does not exist. It is a risk to put faith in something that
is not finite or capable of being

Spearheading The Second Great Awakening
After the Revolutionary War ended, a rebellion against the church began during the 1730s, known as
the Great Awakening. This Awakening transformed the topography of the European Religious culture.
Americans wanted a religion that was compatible with their way of life. During the era of the
Revolution, the most substantial denominations were the Quakers, the Congregationalists, and the

Allstate Insurance Company V.
The present claim is related to an insurance agreement. The trial Court conceded the defense of lack of
personal jurisdiction presented by the Defendant, Allstate Insurance Company (Allstate) in an
amendment to its answer. James Gross (Gross), the Plaintiff appealed the decision. We are now move
to determine whether the Superior Court of Camden County erred in dismissing the Complaint on the
basis that the Defendant did not have minimum contacts with the forum, and consequently the Court
did not have personal jurisdiction over it. We found that the trial court erred in granting the dismissal

For these reasons, we determined that the trial Court had personal jurisdiction over Allstate, and its
decision is reversed and remanded for further proceedings in accordance with this opinion. As we
determined that the defense opposed by Allstate was incorrectly granted, it is proper to comment that
even if this Court would have considered that Allstate was not present in the State of Georgia, and as
result the LAS was applicable, we would arrive to the same conclusion because all the activities
performed by Allstate in this forum do meet the standard of minimum contacts as required by the
constitutional test. It is also necessary to assert that according to the records, the defense of lack of
jurisdiction was untimely alleged. In accordance to the Georgia Rules of Civil Procedure such defense
should be alleged before answering the merits of the Complaint, or concurrently with it. Because
Allstate appeared and first proceed to deny any and all liability in the case without previously or
concurrently interposing the lack of jurisdiction, it did lose the opportunity to allege this defense, and

Pro Prosecution Policy
These deficiencies in pro prosecution policies as presently implemented will need to be addressed if
victim endorsement of such policies is to be achieved (MacLeod, 1995). Another deficiency in the
mandatory charge policy is that it further marginalizes and isolates the already disadvantage groups,
especially the minority and immigrant women. Minority women face the same obstacles in leaving
violent relationships as white or cultural majority women money, childcare, housing, transport; but
each of these issues may also carry culturally specific inflections, exacerbated by racism and class

The Holistic Approach Of Education
The conceptual map, figure: 2.2 provides the summary of this discretion in a schematic form.
The Holistic Approach in Education Holistic education stands clear that learners, need a wide range of
skills to transform their lives, and that of others around them. Certainly educating children is not a
matter of flooding the market needs and fulfillment. According to Singh (2007), in the progressive
changing world, learners need the capability to deal with the indeterminable future. In point of fact, a
conventional wisdom pinpoints that a holistic education approach tackles all aspects of human
challenges (p. 107) in life. Then, he went on to ask, whether an education, support learners to create
capability, a useful key factor for the reconstruction of any country. The education system, scarcely
provides learners for instance, with skills for commendable eating habit. That, in turn leads to the
other question, of how often the education offers learners with the knowledge of avoiding the
consumption of alcohol, tobacco, or drug that may ruin their health (Singh, 2007). A few
aforementioned examples represent a segment of problems among others that children face daily, but
not offered in their learning process. Schools should not create receivers of fresh ideas, as a substitute,
instead support learners to ask questions in their learning process. Singh (2007) continues to argue that
education should support learners in the creation of strong body and mind for thinking,

Fly Away Peter Analysis
How do David Malouf in Fly away Peter and Gabriele Muccino in Seven Pounds use language and
stylistic features to present the idea of the journey to sacrifice? Fly away Peter follows the journey of
two young men Jim Saddler and Ashley Crowther who leave their peaceful life for the horror and
brutality of World War I. Whilst the film Seven pounds explores the story of Tim Thomas (Will Smith)
who is containing a fateful secret, he sets of a journey of redemption to change the lives of seven
individuals. Both stories contained a significant event that changed the lives of these men where the
techniques change before, during and after the major event therefore creating their journeys to their

In both the novella fly away peter and the film Seven pounds the characters encounter a traumatic
event that instigated major change in their lives. In Fly away Peter Malouf uses stylistic techniques to
portray the peaceful lifestyle Jim and Ashley lived before their experience with World War I.
Particularly the exploration of a man s physical struggle and the spiritual journey from innocence to
experience through this move to the War in Europe from Australia. Before their journey to the war
Malouf s writing style differs with how he talks about the surroundings and environment. He describes

In our case, our client s warnings about raw foods were displaced and were not visible to customers.
In Jarrell, the court established a legal standard for adequate warning. According to the decision in
Jarrell, there are two prongs for adequate warning. The first prong is intensity, which in this case
means a visible sign. In her restaurant, our client had two warnings. One was placed on the menu and
the other was the 3 x 5 cards on the tables, interview 2: 21, which could have been sufficient to
heighten the warning and mitigate the harm. The second prong is that those warnings should cause the
reasonable person to be aware of the possible danger. I would argue that our client met both prongs of

increasingly affected more middle income taxpayers. This is a really good provision that helps many
families keep more of their hard earned income. Also, the National Health Service Corps Scholarship

Impossibility Within The Fantasy Of The Book Alphabet Of...
Impossibility within the Fantasy realm in Alphabet of Thorn and the Year of Our War
As Farah Mendelsohn stated, the most obvious construction of fantasy in literature and art is the
presence of the impossible and the unexplainable. In my perspective, both McKillip and Swainston
brilliantly expand our perception of the impossible by introducing us to different elements of fantasy
such as time travel in Alphabet of Thorn and an alternate reality known as the Shift in The Year of Our
War. The fantasy genre encourages us to keep an open mind as we delve into other worlds; simply put,
fantasy shows the readers how to perceive the world differently. While both of these novels clearly
create a delineation of the impossible through an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It s important to note that even though the audience is aware of the impossibility of giant, flesh
devouring insects, we are persuaded that this world of fantasy is indeed real. After analyzing both
novels, one of the most significant similarities between the two would be the author s intentional
system of rules placed in the story in order to explain how the world operated. In the Year of Our War,
after god left the Fourlands, the Empire created a circle of 50 immortals to fight the war (93). Mortals
and immortals coexisted peacefully because of the hierarchal power system placed upon the Empire
and the King; not to mention their common enemy of swarming insects attacking all living beings. On
the other hand, the Alphabet of Thorn provided a history of the 12 Crowns of Raine and the individual
roles associated with the floating school, Royal Library etc. The authors, in their own writing style,
have revealed to us what is possible and considered the norm within their worlds. This makes it easier
for us to differentiate the reality from the impossible when those fantasy elements are introduced later
on in the plotline. For instance, in our mundane world, we perceive magic to be impossible, but it s
very much real in Raine. What deems to be impossible in one world becomes possible in another
story.

A Summary of The Shawl by Cynthia Ozick The Shawl by Cynthia Ozick is an emotional tale of how
a young mother had her daughter ripped away from her in the worst possible way. The novella begins
with the short story The Shawl . The shawl is quite short, but it leaves an emotional impact on the
reader that isn t forgotten throughout the entire book. The setting of The Shawl is in a concentration
camp during the Holocaust. A young mother named Rosa is trying to stay alive with her very young
baby Magda, and her niece Stella. All three of the girls are in critical health due to the terrible
conditions of the camp. Rosa and Stella are no longer able to menstruate ... Show more content on

While at the camp stella saw the bond that Rosa and Magda had. She was envious of the love that they
shared. Stella herself wanted to be cared and nurtured for like Magda was. Something else that drove
Stella to act the way she did was the fact that Magda was different from them. Magda was not like the
other jews in the concentration camp. Although she only a baby, Magda had the features of an aryan .
This was probably another reason Stella did such an evil deed. Stella without remorse stole Magda s
only thread of hope for survival. The shawl that stella stole was the only driving force keeping Magda
alive. She purposefully ripped it from her to lead to her demise. This really showed who stella was and
who she was always going to be. Even after Stella escaped the camp and made a life for herself she
was still the same cold, selfish, and spiteful girl she had been in the camp. Ozick writing Stella as such
an awful antagonist definitely got the theme across that betraying the ones you love and being self

First, both R charts show subgroup ranges that are within the control limits, which suggests that the
variation between subgroups is consistent. However, we can clearly see from the X bar chart for finger

limits are violated frequently. Exhibit 5 shows the graphs for finger height and pod weight in each

Taking a Look at Arkadin s E-Learning
Arkadin, a company rapidly growing with the rising popularity of audio and web conferencing,
decided to implement an e learning program to facilitate standard training for their new employees.
Arkadin realized that learning is vital to an organization s ability to maintain intellectual capital and
that e learning was the only way to ensure the uniformity of learning throughout all offices. Arkadin
fits the profile of a company that would benefit from e learning because of their size. With offices in
22 countries and over 500 employees, it would be extremely challenging to standardize their training
process because they are such a dispersed company. Their workforce also speaks 12 different
languages, so it would be difficult to find a single training team that would be able to teach in such a
diverse amount of dialects. E learning programs, like the one provided by CrossKnowledge, can be
easily translated into many different languages to accommodate language barriers. In addition,
Arkadin has the majority of their employees working in the customer service side of business, which
means that they need periodic refreshments in specific fields to respond to customer inquiries. Without
an e learning program, these employees would have to find their superior and physically ask them to
solve the customer s problem. Now, with their e learning program s learning objectives, employees
can simply select the individual section of their program to get a brief refresher in the

Being A Child Of The 90 s Full House Essay
Being a child of the 90 s, Full House was a very popular show for my generation. Least to say when I
saw a spin off, Fuller House was being released this past year to Netflix I was extremely excited.
Coincidently, the spin off released during the time of this course. Believe it or not, I immediately
referenced parenting styles to the episode where DJ Tanner punishes her son a little differently than
Kimmy Gibler punishes her daughter, although the committed the same crime. I am hoping to dissect
this exact scene, and discuss DJ parenting style towards her son. I find the parenting styles really
interesting, specifically the four we discussed in module four and I really want to focus on that here.
Earlier in the course, we discussed Darling four parenting styles and for some reason, these really
stuck with me. The parenting style theory reflects four different types of parents. Indulgent parents
tend to more responsive than they are demanding (Darling) I like to think of indulgent parents as what
todays generation thinks of as cool parents . They tend to be more lenient and let the child do as they
please because they want to avoid confrontation. Darling also discusses Authoritarian and
Authoritative parents which are slightly different. Authoritarian style parents, are a little over barring.
To me, I would consider this style to be a bulldozer parent. Authoritarian style parents are very
demanding and very directive. They expect the child to do what they re told,

Cause And Effect Of A Tornado
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) states that a tornado forms when a
rotating column of air that meets up with a thunderstorm and hits the ground. (HR Byers,
Compendium of Meteorology, pp 681 693) About each year there are about 1,000 tornadoes. A scale
called enhanced Fujita (EF) is used to measure the intensity of the tornado. There is a number given to
the tornado from 0 5 and that number depends on the wind damage. The wind damage is scaled upon
what was hit such as trees and buildings. A report from Lloyds of London from 2013 states that the
United States has more tornadoes than anywhere else in the world.
A thunderstorm is made when the air is unstable and moist, and it is lifted into the atmosphere in a
vertical line. The air is lifted because latent heat and condensation releases into the heat. Adiabatic
expansion happens when after the start of the lifted air the part of the moist warm air starts to cool.
Once the air reaches a higher elevation the cumulous cloud is formed and then the dew point reaches a
higher point. When this happens, condensation is made. The cumulous cloud will change into a
thunderstorm.
When a storm is called a supercell thunderstorm, the updrafts are stronger. When these storms are
strong a vortex of air is made. Before a tornado is made, it is a mesocyclone and it can be as wide as 2
6 miles. After a mesocyclone is made, there a 50% chance that a tornado will happen in about 30
minutes.
If the air has low

Goodwill Balance Sheet
GOODWILL
What is the definition of Goodwill?
Goodwill is an intangible asset that mostly appears as the biggest intangible asset on the balance sheet.
The Goodwill can only be identified with the business as a whole. Therefore, the goodwill cannot be
sold individually in the marketplace, while some other intangible assets can be sold.
Goodwill is not easy to measure, because it includes exceptional management, desirable locations,
customer relations, and so on. The determination of the Goodwill is therefore most of the time very
subjective.
Companies only record the goodwill when there is an exchange transaction the involves the purchase
of an entire business.

Goodwill booking in the balance sheet
According to Harold Averkamp (2015), Goodwill is reported on the balance sheet as a noncurrent
asset.
Since 2001, U.S. companies are no longer required/allowed to amortize the recorded amount of
goodwill.
In accounting we use the word amortization to mean the systematic allocation of a balance sheet item
to expense (or revenue) on the income statement. Harold Averkamp (2015)
The amortization of an asset means that a company is allowed to split the value of the expenses stated
in the income statement over several months instead of a one time booking.
However, the amount of goodwill is subject to a goodwill impairment test at least once per year.
The companies have to verify at least once a year if the value of their assets is aligned with the fair
value of the market.
The test verifies if the value of the assets is bigger than the market value. An adjustment is recorded in
order to bring the value of the asset at the fair value in case of inequality.

Black Lives Matter Persuasive Speech
The Black Lives Matter movement has been around for several years, but this year, something has
majorly sparked up more of the movements controversy. This is an international activist movement,
originating in the African American community. This Black Lives Matter movement campaigns
against violence and systemic racism towards African Americans. Racial justice activists are
concerned that the cause is being slaughtered by the case emerging form the football stadiums. Colin
Kaepernick made headlines by remaining seated during the National Anthem at a NFL football game.
From inspiration, the MLB, Major League Baseball, followed suit. The Oakland Athletics catcher

The Protestant Reformation Of The Western Church During...
The Protestant Reformation was the religious revolution that took place in the Western church during
the 16th century and was initially aimed at reforming the beliefs and practices of the Roman Catholic
Church. Western Christianity was developed in the areas of the former
Western Roman Empire and consisted of the Latin Church of the Roman Catholic Church, the
Waldensians, and Hussites, along with a wide variety of Protestant denominations, that include
Anglicanism, Anabaptism, Calvinism, and Lutheranism. This movement is said to have been sparked
by Martin Luther in 1517 and resulted in the split of Western Christianity.
During the Reformation, Martin Luther was a German professor of theology, composer, priest, monk
who was a very significant and influential figure. Luther s teachings state that redemption and eternal
life after death are not earned by the good deeds performed throughout your life. Instead, salvation is
only received as a gift of God s grace through how strong one s faith is in Jesus Christ as redeemer
from sin. This theology he believed in challenged the authority of the church and Pope by teaching
that the Bible is the only source of knowledge from
God. Luther also openly opposed sacerdotalism by considering all baptized Christians to be a holy
priesthood. Sacerdotalism is the belief that propitiatory sacrifices for sin require the

Collective Bargaining and Labour Market Outcomes for Canadian Working Women
I INTRODUCTION: UNIONS, LOW PAY, AND EARNINGS INEQUALITY
The major purposes of this paper are, first, to examine the impacts of collective bargaining on labour
market outcomes for women workers in Canada, specifically with respect to pay, benefits coverage,
the incidence of low pay and the extent of earnings inequality, and, second, to suggest ways in which
positive impacts could be extended via the expansion of collective bargaining coverage. This part of
the paper briefly reviews the literature on the impacts of collective bargaining on earnings, low pay,
and earnings inequality, and Part II provides some background description of the labour market ...

To indicate the extremes, the earnings gap between the top and bottom deciles of women earners in
Canada is double that in Sweden (i.e. the ratio between the upper limit of D9 and the bottom limit of
D2 is 3.7 compared to 1.8), and the incidence of low pay among full time women workers (defined as
earning below two thirds of the economy wide median wage) is 34.3% in Canada compared to just
8.4% in Sweden. OECD countries such as Canada and Sweden are exposed to broadly comparable
forces of structural change, such as exposure to international trade and investment flows and to rapid
technological change, but differ significantly in terms of labour market institutions. This suggests that
institutions such as collective bargaining can have significant impacts on the quality of jobs as well as
on the level of inequality between wage earners.
As the OECD notes, a major explanation for large differences between countries is labour market
institutions: different institutional settings with regard to wage bargaining, legal minimum wages and
the generosity of unemployment and other related benefits appear to account for some of the wide
variation across countries in the over all incidence of low pay. More specifically, it was established in
the OECD analysis that there is a high and negative correlation between collective bargaining
coverage and the incidence of low pay. Similarly, a major set of Canada U.S. comparative studies has

Southwest Airlines 2010 Case Study
What strategies did Southwest Airlines developed earlier to gain market visibility?
Southwest Airlines employed many strategies over the years with their fist strategy being ads run in
the media. Southwest airlines utilized a number of campaigns including skimpily clad flight hostesses,
free in flight alcoholic beverages and a Love campaign using the tag line Now There s Somebody Else
Up There Who Loves You in an effort to attract passengers. (Leavenworth) Southwest Airlines
developed a ground crew turnaround plan that allowed them to add additional flights without the high
expense of new plane purchases, even today their turnaround time is nearly half that of other
commercial airlines. The idea of CEO Lamar Muse for system wide ... Show more content on

Kelly instituted strategic objectives to ensure Southwest continued to hire great people, care for their
customers as if they were guests in their home, keep fares and operating costs low, and remain
prepared for bad times through strong financial positioning.
Discuss the airlines strategies that make her competitive in the national market.
Competition requires companies to make choices as to what to do and what not to do to attain growth
and maintain survival. Airlines primarily compete on price and service; however, to a lesser extent
they do compete on frequency of flights, frequent flyer programs, reliability of flights, and other
amenities. Southwest has a strategy the creation of a tailored set of best fit activities. Southwest began
as a low cost, no frills airline 30 years ago. (Thompson, Peteraf, Gamble, Strickland, 2010) It has
grown to be a national airline, but still has its basic cost structure. Southwest has never served meals
or reserved seats in advance. It still has what is basically a linear route structure. It only flies one type
of airplane and it wants to stay in high density markets. Its operation is highly efficient. The end result
of this strategy is a sustainable, competitive advantage and superior profitability. Southwest was the
first airline to introduce ticketless travel. Customers

The Distribution of Wealth
Dramatic facts surround the nature of the distribution of wealth becoming more concentrated during
the period between 1983 and 2004. In good parts of the period, labor unions were defeated and
implementation of tax cuts for the rich took place. 42% of the entire financial wealth generated by the
economy of the United States during the 21 year period went to the richest 1%.
The Current Statistical Trends of the Wealth Inequality in the United States Before the onset of the
2007/2008 global financial crisis, the 10% richest Americans group owned 80% of entire financial
assets in the United States. The top 20% richest Americans possessed 85% of the nation s wealth
meaning the bottom 80% of Americans only owned 15%. At this time, the richest 1% owned 35% of
the total wealth of America. After the great financial recession that began in the last quarter of 2007,
these figures changed dramatically. The portion of American wealth owned by the 1% richest
Americans rose from 35% to 37.2% while that owned by the 20% richest Americans increased from
85% to 87.8%. The global financial crisis led to a drop of 36% in the middle class wealth but only a
decrease of 11% for the top 1% richest people in the United States. This further widened the gap
between the two groups. At the start of the current decade, about 51% of the American population was
in the middle class. This was a 10% drop in the middle class population from that of the previous 40
years. Compared to a number of developed

The Healthcare Common Procedure System (HCPCS)
The Healthcare Common Procedure System is usually known as HCPCS. This system was developed
by The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid (CMS). The advancement and practice of HCPCS Level II
codes was introduced in the 1980s. Using HPCS codes was optional up until 1996 when HIPAA was
passed. The Secretary of Health and Human Services assigned authority under the Health Insurance

medical billers and coders use HCPCS. HCPCS Codes are needed for health insurance providers to

Comparing Epic Of Gilgamesh And Noah s Ark
Throughout history, including current society, there are different variations of a flood myth. A flood
myth is a myth in which a great flood, sent by a god, or gods, to destroy civilization. Two very
common myths talked about today are the Epic of Gilgamesh and the Bibles Noah s Ark. Even though
there are many similarities between the two, I would like to compare the Epic of Gilgamesh to a 2008
film The Happening, directed by M Night Shyamalan. In the Epic of Gilgamesh one of the gods, Enlil,
sent a flood over the earth in order to rid the human race. However, another god, Ea, didn t agree with
the idea, so she told Utnapishtim to build an ark and collect animals to protect them. When the flood
was over and Enlil realized there were still some humans left, he was angry. However, Ea tells him
that he is reckless and that all men should not pay the price for one man s crime. Ea also states, he
should have sent lions, wolves, or a plague to decimate the human race and not a flood. ... Show more

In today s society, more people are starting to believe, god or not, science tells all. In this film, starting
with the most populous cities, people start killing themselves in random and often gory ways. For
example, laying down in front of a running lawnmower, or driving their vehicle into a tree. Later in
the film, you discover this is nature s way of defending itself. Plants are setting off a toxin that
switches off human instinct; in turn, causing them to commit suicide; possibly because god, or nature,
is furious with the human

Tesco Plc Analysis
1.0 Introduction
In this report I will be providing the UK s largest supermarket, Tesco with advice on their
performance. I have chosen to use two types of analytical models to review the company; I will be
looking at the organisational structure of Tesco, as well as analysing their business and competitive
strategy.
1.1 Company overview
Tesco is the leading food retailer in Britain, they have also focused on building non food sales which
are available in store and online. Tesco is one of the world s largest retailers with approximately 4,331
stores in 14 countries which include Asia, Europe and the United States. (Tesco, 2011). See appendix
1 for a map of the countries Tesco operate in.
In the UK alone there are 2,715 stores with just ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Grant (2010) states, For a strategy to be successful, it must be consistent with the firm s external
environment, and with its internal environment its goals and values, resources and capabilities, and
structure and systems. (Grant, 2010, p.13).
Competitive advantage refers to what sets the organisation apart from others and provides it with a
distinctive edge for meeting customers or client needs in the marketplace. (Daft and Marcic, 2011,
p.152) I will use a SWOT analysis to identify Tesco s strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats
so it will be clear what Tesco need to improve so they can go on to making decisions to compete with
their competitors and threats.
The first step to analyse strategy is to perform a SWOT analysis. As Daft and Marcic (2011) believe
Formulating strategy often begins with an assessment of the internal and external factors that will
affect the organisation s competitive situation. (Daft and Marcic, 2011, p.155). So this is where I will
begin the analysis. 3.0 Analysis with application
The reason why I have chosen to analyse Tesco s competitive strategy and organisational structure is
because both area s concentrate on the company s goals. Without these areas being acknowledged
properly and successfully analysed they cannot achieve competitive advantage

How the Federal Bilingual Education Act of 1968 Ended the...
The purpose of this paper is to examine how the Federal Bilingual Education Act of 1968, ended the
War on Poverty. Bilingual education is the use of more than one language to deliver curriculum
content. The bilingual education system is designed for students to become proficient in English, and
also encourage students to become bi cultural; and function in two, or more linguistic and cultural
groups. The policy expressed U.S commitment to the needs of the growing number of children in the
public schools, whose first language was not English. In 1968, the government passed the Bilingual
Education Act, which required language minority students to be taught in both their native language
and English. I myself had to undergo English as a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Which provided federal aid to low income children with limited English speaking families. The
government believed that in order to end the War on Poverty, it would have to aid schools in
developing new and imaginative elementary and secondary school programs (Parkay, 2013). The
education gap between one generation and another would end here. However, this issue would take far
more than funding. The issue of bilingual education in our public school system is a much debated
topic in this country, and especially in this state. The Education Topic over Bilingual Education in our
School Systems Spanish speaking populace has grown tremendously in these past decades, much of
which have immigrated with Spanish as their only language. This has left the public school system
with an interesting problem; how to successfully transition Spanish speaking students into an English
environment. Public school systems have adopted an immersion program; where students learn
English and other subjects in classrooms where only English is spoken (Parkay, 2013). Students are
not necessarily aided, they are required to learn like their peers from the teacher and ask for direction
when needed in English. This program might aid some fast learners, but students who do not adapt to
English; which is a foreign language to them, are left to learn on their own. If the student does not get

Analysis Of John Donne s Holy Sonnet Xiv
In Holy Sonnet XIV, John Donne directly addresses God using a desperate and forceful tone. The
formal structure of Donne s holy sonnet follows the basic Petrarchan sonnet form. The sonnet has
fourteen lines divided into an octave and a sestet. The rhyme scheme of the octave is abba abba. The
sestet has the rhyme scheme cdcdee. Donne expresses his spiritual turmoil and longing by using this
structure to present different metaphors that illustrate his condition, and he uses Petrarchan
conventions to further highlight his spiritual desires. The octave introduces and illustrates the spiritual
difficulty that Donne finds himself in trapped in, and wants God to take him out of. The first line starts
with Donne s desperate and urgent command to God to batter or violently beat his heart (1). Donne
uses the metaphor of his heart as a metal object, and God as a metal smith to support this command.
Donne s heart is a broken object that the metal smith has gently stroked, breathed on to shine, and
polished, in order to fix the broken parts. However, Donne claims that this is not enough. The metal
smith needs to break, blow, burn in order to make the object new (4). The metal smith must apply
more force to shatter the object, and then place it into the fire to melt, so the metal can be purified and
new. Donne seems to be telling God that his heart is too broken by sin to be mended through God s
normal ways of opening the heart to faith again. God needs to bend

Negative Leadership Behavior Essay
For my example of a negative leadership behavior I have encountered, I am going to use an example
from my current position, and will therefore mask certain details to protect all involved. However, I
assure you the pertinent facts are here and are not embellished.
The experience: Unfortunately I cannot pinpoint just one example, as this has been an ongoing
problem for me. In a nutshell, my direct supervisor, who has a reactive personality, has a tendency to
view all situations with an attitude of how does this make me look good or bad, or why should I have
to deal with this. A situation will arise, namely someone requesting funds from our office, and her
response will be to fly off the handle when I ask her how I should respond. ... Show more content on

This does nothing to build my confidence. It also is in violation of a majority of the JJ did tie buckle
traits of a good leader. (Clark, Big Dog Little Dog s Performance Juxtaposition), most specifically
justice, judgment, dependability, tact, integrity, unselfishness, courage, and loyalty. You may note that
I wrote (seemingly) obligatory above. This is because her statements don t ring true in relation to her
behavior. This makes me call into question an additional JJ did tie buckle trait: honesty.
Additionally, her use of legitimate and expert powers, without referent power, actually makes me call
into question the reality of her reward power (helping me achieve my goals). I have to wonder what
she is thinking when her message clearly does not set an example, or establish esprit de corps, but she
speaks frequently of her leadership skills as being obvious and something to emulate.
Recommendation for strengthening leadership behavior: In this instance, I must say she would do well
to remember that a key factor of leadership is communication (Clark, Big Dog Little Dog s
Performance Juxtapostion). Communication can not only build a relationship, but also undermine it.

Legal Abortion Policy Boundaries Of The United States
Legal Abortion Policy Boundaries After the most widely known court case in the United States, Roe v.
Wade (1973), a woman had a right to have a legal abortion during the first trimester of pregnancy (The
National Right to Life Committee, inc., 2014). Legislation decided that States were able to regulate
abortion into the second trimester, only to reasonable promote the interest of the women s health. The
third trimester was the first time the state was able to say no to protect the life of the fetus (Arrigo
Waldman, 2014).
Since Roe v Wade, there have been major advancements in the maternal fetal world of medicine.
Advanced technology and science have shown us that there is life to a fetus before the last trimester,
leading to many regulations and laws to prohibit abortion for the life the fetus. Discussed in this paper
are the policies, court cases, and executive decisions affecting legal abortion in the US and the ethical
implications that debate them.
Legal Abortion and Roe v. Wade of 1973
The court case, Roe v. Wade (1973), brought forward the Texas state law to allow on demand
abortions of fetuses for women until the third trimester, when the state recognized the life of the child
(The National Right to Life Committee, inc., 2014) This brought satisfaction to the women who felt
their rights were violated by not being able to choose what they wanted done with their bodies. Roe v.
Wade (1973) made it seem like abortion was the best choice or the only choice when

  • 2. The Rise of a Mash-up Culture Essay A great deal has been said about the move from physical media to a ubiquitous, digital culture. Some decry the downfall of the vinyl record, falling compact disc sales, the cheapening and degrading of an art form. I ll try to stay away from unverifiable judgements about the direction modern culture is moving in. More interesting is the way musical creation is changing as a result of new technologies, whether we like it or not. What comes to mind is hyperreality what Jean Baudrillard called the generation by models of a real without origin or reality (166). Digital representations, originally intended to recreate the original sound waves of the music, are losing their point of origin and becoming musical works on their own. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Its pointless to look for the original blueprint of a digital representation, because it s independent of the hardware it s stored in, and meaningful only in the information it encodes. Hyperreality results from a loss of distinction between the representations and the things they re intended to represent. In our culture, the separation between a song and the digital file of a song is becoming trivial. Computers allow information to be torn free of its original context, and reinterpreted upon retrieval. Representation engines are the ideal enablers of hyperreality, giving almost limitless power to reorder simulacra upon simulacra. The internet takes the representational capacities of computers, and spreads them over a vast symbolic network. Anyone with an internet connection instantly gains manipulative control over a whole world of digital abstractions. These have the unique property of not being tied down to any specific physical origin. It follows that they re infinitely recreatable, and intimately tied to their user defined context. This decontextualization began, to a lesser extent, with the advent of audio cassettes, allowing the creation of mix tapes. A mix tape lets the listener take small parts (usually whole songs) from different physical source material (records), and combine them into a new whole, consisting of copied parts. This process, known as dubbing, creates an experience that is, at least in part, distinct from each ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Eastlyn Koons Robots Are Better Than Humans The increased development of artificial intelligence and the everyday use of technology can lead to a future full of robots, claims Eastlyn Koons in Robots are Better than Humans. Koons lives in the modern day where advancements are being made every day in the field of technology and artificial intelligence machines have started to replace the jobs of some people. People fear the uprising of robot rebellion and an inevitable Doomsday because of it. Through appeals to fear and pride, Koons asks the world to consider the use of technology in their lives and the role it may play in the future. Koons starts off the intro of her satirical essay by using sarcasm and rhetorical in order to show the audience what is happening with the world at that time and establish the satire of her essay. In the first sentence, Koons claims that robots are better than humans, as they are humans favorite things , suggesting that the humans basically created their own better version. Koons utilizes a rhetorical question to ask why humans are still there , showcasing the dispensability and non necessity of humans when robots are present. By doing so, Koons demonstrates that humans have, in a way, become the cause of their own downfall. After establishing the satirical nature of her essay, Koons sets the context to explain the reasoning behind the essay. She talks about ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Currently, in GMO production, the focus crops are soybeans, rapeseed/canola, and cotton, along with many others that still have been worked on, but not quite ready for cultivation. Soybeans have been modified to possess a gene that causes the plants to become herbicide resistant. In order for the plant to become herbicide resistant, either an existing gene has been switched off, or a new gene has been added to the plant. Currently, Argentina and the United States are the only countries without major restrictions regarding GM soybeans, and they can be treated and cultivated just like non modified soybeans. Those against GMOs argue that they are a risk to human health, a risk to the environment, a risk to farmers in developing countries, and a risk to organic farmers. 2. a/c. • 5. The Impact Of National Football League And National... Introduction In Baseball, statistics are in abundance. Unlike the National Football League and the National Basketball Association, Major League Baseball(MLB) does not have a salary cap. This has caused a lot of randomness in salaries. The salaries of teams also varies quite a bit as well. From the data I have used, in 2015, the Los Angeles Dodgers salary was almost five times higher than the Miami Marlins. What would cause such a disparity? Being a Baltimore Orioles fan and my father being a New York Yankee fan, we would argue statistics and I usually would have a less than substantial argument for my beloved Orioles. My father would say 25, implying the number of pennants the Yankees had. Given this was about eight years ago, I had not taken a statistics class. I did, without research, argue that the Baltimore Orioles do more with their salary. While thinking of a regression earlier this semester, I wanted to run a regression of team wins on the city size. My theory was larger cities meant higher salaries and in turn more wins because of the higher salaries. I ran the regression and found the results to be very insignificant and had no basis of explaining the wins of a team. A recent outcome in Baseball, blew my theory out of the water. The Kansas City Royals play in the third smallest market according to metropolitan size.(1) The Royals are also 13th on a list of highest salaries in the MLB.(3) The Royals won the 2015 World Series. Figure 1.1: Infrastructure Network. Figure 1.2: Ad Hoc Network. 1.1. MOBILE AD HOC NETWORKS 1.1.1. Overview of Mobile Ad Hoc Networks A Mobile Ad Hoc Network (MANET) consists of a set of mobile hosts that carry out basic networking functions like packet forwarding, routing, and service discovery without the help of an established infrastructure [1]. Nodes of an ad hoc network rely on one another in forwarding a packet to its destination, due to the limited range of each mobile host s wireless transmissions. An ad hoc network uses no centralized administration. This ensures that the network will not cease functioning just because one of the mobile nodes moves out of the range of the others. Nodes should be able to enter and leave the network as they wish. Because of the limited transmitter range of the nodes, multiple hops are generally needed to reach other nodes. Every node in an ad hoc network must be willing to forward packets for other nodes. Thus, every node acts both as a host and as a router. The topology of ad hoc networks varies with time as nodes move, join or leave the network. This topological instability requires a routing protocol to run on each node to create and maintain routes among the nodes [21]. 1.1.1. Mobile Ad hoc Networks Usages Wireless ad hoc ... I know this because when you compare the giver community to our world it takes a minute but I guarantee it is a dystopia, you can see this because on the out side looking in, you know all of the secrets that make up the giver community. another reason it is a dystopia is because when people imagine a perfect world it is not anything like the community of the giver, lastly is the fact that the government plans out people s lives. I will go into detail and make many other points in this essay about both sides of this question. The giver community is a dystopia first of all because when you are on the outside looking in, you know that the whole community is made up of secrets. You know that people can ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is just one of the many examples in the book that show that the government can control your life. Not to mention how they also control your significant other, your job, your siblings, and your life decisions, and even your personality traits. Just think about no being able to choose the person your supposed to love and get through life together with. You could argue that the community is a utopia because everyone is happy and that the people not knowing what is going on is a good thing. Or that people not saying mean things and expressing what they truly feel is a good thing because it won t cause arguments and fights. Even the fact that people don t have a choice with family and more importantly significant others could mean that there are no divorces and no fights about who Marries who. Another example why it could be a utopia is that people don t have to choose their jobs so they don t need too tire themselves out working super hard just to get the job that you want. I agree that the government choosing and planning your whole life out for you can be a good thing. But their are so many other bad things about the community that it outweighs all of the good. Perkins Coie Biography To Perkins Coie, I, Charles Louis de Secondat baron de La Brède et de Montesquieu, would be extremely grateful if I were to become a member of the Perkins Coie international law firm. In my life, I have contributed a great deal in political philosophy and with my experiences and contributions, I am the ideal candidate to become a member of this organization. After I completed my general studies at the Oratorian Collège de Juilly in 1705 and received my law degree from the University of Bordeaux in 1708, I went to Paris to further my practice in law. However, once my father died 1713, I had to return to Bordeaux and manage the La Brède estates from my mother s prior death. Then, in 1716, my uncle, Jean Baptiste baron de Montesquieu also died, in which I received the Montesquieu barony and the position of deputy president in the Bordeaux Parliament. Eventually, I left my wife to manage the estates in Bordeaux as I returned to Paris to obtain positions in the court system of Paris and the French Academy. I decided to continue my personal education by traveling throughout Europe from 1728 until 1731. I traveled to Austria, Hungary, Italy, Germany, Holland, and England, the nation where I was influenced the most. Here, I connected with several English dukes and politicians, having the ... • 11. Life Is Beautiful Film Analysis Life is Beautiful Movie Analysis Life is Beautiful, directed by Italian director Roberto Benigni, released in 1997, is a film about love, war and death. Set just before and during WWII, the main character, Guido falls in love with the woman of his dreams, they have a child but they get separated by the horrors of the war. Guido and his little son strive to get reunited with his wife but their internment in a Nazi concentration camp halts him from doing so. Nevertheless, he slyly keeps in contact with his wife so she knows they are safe and well. Roberto Benigni uses cinematic techniques such as music, costume and lighting to convey the strong theme of love between two characters in the film Life is Beautiful. In Life is Beautiful, the love between two people is a recurring theme. The music, composed by Italian light classical composer Nicola Piovani, is one of the major factors that helps successfully convey this theme to the audience. In the film, the same upbeat tune is used for many of the romantic scenes between Guido and Dora. This tune, in a more subtle tone, is the theme song for the film, and when it is repeated for the romantic themes it gives a powerful sense of love. For example, when Dora falls out of that farm house, and Guido catches her, the music is used for the first time in a romantic setting. The same music is then repeated in the scene at the 11 minute mark when Guido falls off his bike into Dora and they both fall over into a big pile of sand. This ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. Atlantis Research Paper Over the years, there have been plenty of islands that have disappeared. However, one island has has been given a ton of attention. This island is called Atlantis and was referenced in the greek philosopher Plato s work. The people that inhabited the Atlantis were supposed to be very advanced compared to other civilizations. History.com says, Plato (through the character Critias in his dialogues) describes Atlantis as an island larger than Libya and Asia Minor put together, located in the Atlantic just beyond the Pillars of Hercules generally assumed to mean the Strait of Gibraltar. The island eventually sank into the sea due to earthquakes and flooding. Many people thought Plato s book was just a myth until in a scholar claimed it might ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One theory is that Atlantis was a mid atlantic island that sunk into the ocean. This is very plausible because of the fact that this part of ocean is only a few hundred feet deep. This means that an earthquake could have very well weakened the foundation of the island. Then, if it did flood to like Plato said then it could have easily sunk into the sea floor. This is what Palto explains in his book but there also could have been many other ways that the island was destroyed, from tsunamis to volcanos. Next, another theory is that Atlantis was swallowed by the bermuda triangle. This myth could also very well be true because there are what looks like man made walls and streets off the coast of Bimini, although scientist evaluate the structures and found them to be natural rock formation. Finally, the last theory is that Atlantis was Antarctica. History.com explains According to Hapgood, around 12,000 years ago the Earth s crust shifted, displacing the continent that became Antarctica from a location much further north than it is today. This more temperate continent was home to an advanced civilization, but the sudden shift to its current frigid location doomed the civilization s inhabitants the Atlanteans and their magnificent city was buried under layers of ice. Hapgood s theory surfaced before the scientific world gained a full understanding of plate tectonics, which largely relegated his shifting crust idea to the fringes of Atlantean beliefs. This explains that explorers that are looking for atlantis may truly be in the wrong place, instead of looking through the sea they should be digging through ice. There are many plausible theories out there but all of them are either missing evidence or need more investigation. Therefore there are plenty of theros that explain Atlantis ... Research Paper On Quitting A Job Quitting A Job A job to many people might be a new opportunity to improve their financial status, yet, to others like myself it can be a tortuous experience one may have not been ready for. Long shifts, low pay, co workers, bosses, and stress are the biggest reasons why many people believe they want to quit their job. Although, quitting a job is never easy for anyone even for those who dislike it. To some the process of resigning can be extremely difficult to plan and carry out. Through Personal experience I have found a way to resign accordingly, here are steps to do in order to quit a job. First step to quitting is having a plan. • 15. The Media s Influence On Contemporary Society Scholars have debated the media s increasing influence within contemporary society, and shaping of identities. It has been suggested that the media provides us with limited notions and materials to brand ourselves, which involve the notion behind being a man or woman and differentiate the means of bad or good. There are various prominent mediums used by the media to convey or direct a message. Images from media arbitrated precepts tend to become the conception of the individual s self. Vigorito and Curry (1998, p. 136) indicate that pop culture is increasingly visual and images seen in the media tend to convey the ideal cultural norms, values and gender relations. These images are not subtle, but explicit notions of what is acceptable in society and how we as individuals should look and think in the public eye. In the twenty first century, gender equality has been held in high regard both in the macro and micro levels of social and professional contexts. Gender is defined by the features society expects from a male or female depending on their biological sex. According to multiple scholars, research on masculinity and male depiction has become a major focus due to gender becoming a social construct subject to historical change. In the following study I wish to determine how the ideal male and masculinity is understood and defined, how the male identity and masculinity is portrayed in film, computer games and advertising, and how these representations have changed over time. ... I could not put down my new art supplies. I used and used them and constantly asked for supplies to be replaced. Fast forward a few years and I am found staring into the Commercial Arts class at my high school. Upon taking a few steps into the room, I looked at all the classroom had to offer. • 19. The Importance Of Faith And Belief Human beings have an inherent faith and belief system regardless of whether they are aware of it. It originates from traditions and upbringing and is the center of one s being. Faith and belief have different content and methods of questioning and understanding the content. It is important to understand the difference and not to interchange faith and belief because it can cause misunderstandings and negative consequences. William K. Clifford and Paul Tillich define faith and faith through descriptions of what they are, what they are not, and how one can reach good faith and belief through asking the right questions based on types of doubt. As a result of faith and belief being elements of the total person and the impact that one s person has on faith and belief, it is essential to know the discrepancies between each. According to Tillich, faith is a matter of ultimate concern that promises total fulfillment (Tillich, 1). Concern is content that is infinite and valued at the core of human beings. Ultimate refers to something that is put above all other values and involves sacrifice as it orients our lives to reach an infinite goal of fulfillment. Faith is an act of the total personality (Tillich, 4). It comes from the center of our being and includes all aspects of a person s life. The Holistic Approach in Education Holistic education stands clear that learners, need a wide range of skills to transform their lives, and that of others around them. Certainly educating children is not a matter of flooding the market needs and fulfillment. According to Singh (2007), in the progressive changing world, learners need the capability to deal with the indeterminable future. In point of fact, a conventional wisdom pinpoints that a holistic education approach tackles all aspects of human challenges (p. 107) in life. Then, he went on to ask, whether an education, support learners to create capability, a useful key factor for the reconstruction of any country. The education system, scarcely provides learners for instance, with skills for commendable eating habit. That, in turn leads to the other question, of how often the education offers learners with the knowledge of avoiding the consumption of alcohol, tobacco, or drug that may ruin their health (Singh, 2007). A few aforementioned examples represent a segment of problems among others that children face daily, but not offered in their learning process. Impossibility within the Fantasy realm in Alphabet of Thorn and the Year of Our War As Farah Mendelsohn stated, the most obvious construction of fantasy in literature and art is the presence of the impossible and the unexplainable. In my perspective, both McKillip and Swainston brilliantly expand our perception of the impossible by introducing us to different elements of fantasy such as time travel in Alphabet of Thorn and an alternate reality known as the Shift in The Year of Our War. The fantasy genre encourages us to keep an open mind as we delve into other worlds; simply put, fantasy shows the readers how to perceive the world differently. It s important to note that even though the audience is aware of the impossibility of giant, flesh devouring insects, we are persuaded that this world of fantasy is indeed real. After analyzing both novels, one of the most significant similarities between the two would be the author s intentional system of rules placed in the story in order to explain how the world operated. In the Year of Our War, after god left the Fourlands, the Empire created a circle of 50 immortals to fight the war (93). Mortals and immortals coexisted peacefully because of the hierarchal power system placed upon the Empire and the King; not to mention their common enemy of swarming insects attacking all living beings. On the other hand, the Alphabet of Thorn provided a history of the 12 Crowns of Raine and the individual roles associated with the floating school, Royal Library etc. The authors, in their own writing style, have revealed to us what is possible and considered the norm within their worlds. This makes it easier for us to differentiate the reality from the impossible when those fantasy elements are introduced later on in the plotline. For instance, in our mundane world, we perceive magic to be impossible, but it s very much real in Raine. What deems to be impossible in one world becomes possible in another story. Cause And Effect Of A Tornado The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) states that a tornado forms when a rotating column of air that meets up with a thunderstorm and hits the ground. (HR Byers, Compendium of Meteorology, pp 681 693) About each year there are about 1,000 tornadoes. A scale called enhanced Fujita (EF) is used to measure the intensity of the tornado. There is a number given to the tornado from 0 5 and that number depends on the wind damage. The wind damage is scaled upon what was hit such as trees and buildings. A report from Lloyds of London from 2013 states that the United States has more tornadoes than anywhere else in the world. A thunderstorm is made when the air is unstable and moist, and it is lifted into the atmosphere in a vertical line. The air is lifted because latent heat and condensation releases into the heat. Adiabatic expansion happens when after the start of the lifted air the part of the moist warm air starts to cool. Once the air reaches a higher elevation the cumulous cloud is formed and then the dew point reaches a higher point. When this happens, condensation is made. The cumulous cloud will change into a thunderstorm. When a storm is called a supercell thunderstorm, the updrafts are stronger. When these storms are strong a vortex of air is made. Before a tornado is made, it is a mesocyclone and it can be as wide as 2 6 miles. After a mesocyclone is made, there a 50% chance that a tornado will happen in about 30 minutes. Goodwill is not easy to measure, because it includes exceptional management, desirable locations, customer relations, and so on. Since 2001, U.S. companies are no longer required/allowed to amortize the recorded amount of goodwill. In accounting we use the word amortization to mean the systematic allocation of a balance sheet item to expense (or revenue) on the income statement. Harold Averkamp (2015) The amortization of an asset means that a company is allowed to split the value of the expenses stated in the income statement over several months instead of a one time booking. However, the amount of goodwill is subject to a goodwill impairment test at least once per year. The companies have to verify at least once a year if the value of their assets is aligned with the fair value of the market. The test verifies if the value of the assets is bigger than the market value. An adjustment is recorded in order to bring the value of the asset at the fair value in case of inequality. • 40. The Protestant Reformation Of The Western Church During... The Protestant Reformation was the religious revolution that took place in the Western church during the 16th century and was initially aimed at reforming the beliefs and practices of the Roman Catholic Church. Western Christianity was developed in the areas of the former Western Roman Empire and consisted of the Latin Church of the Roman Catholic Church, the Waldensians, and Hussites, along with a wide variety of Protestant denominations, that include Anglicanism, Anabaptism, Calvinism, and Lutheranism. This movement is said to have been sparked by Martin Luther in 1517 and resulted in the split of Western Christianity. During the Reformation, Martin Luther was a German professor of theology, composer, priest, monk who was a very significant and influential figure. Luther s teachings state that redemption and eternal life after death are not earned by the good deeds performed throughout your life. Instead, salvation is only received as a gift of God s grace through how strong one s faith is in Jesus Christ as redeemer from sin. This theology he believed in challenged the authority of the church and Pope by teaching that the Bible is the only source of knowledge from God. Luther also openly opposed sacerdotalism by considering all baptized Christians to be a holy priesthood. Sacerdotalism is the belief that propitiatory sacrifices for sin require the 2 intervention of a priest along with the belief that a special order of men, called the Levitical Priesthood, are the only ... Collective Bargaining and Labour Market Outcomes for Canadian Working Women I INTRODUCTION: UNIONS, LOW PAY, AND EARNINGS INEQUALITY The major purposes of this paper are, first, to examine the impacts of collective bargaining on labour market outcomes for women workers in Canada, specifically with respect to pay, benefits coverage, the incidence of low pay and the extent of earnings inequality, and, second, to suggest ways in which positive impacts could be extended via the expansion of collective bargaining coverage. This part of the paper briefly reviews the literature on the impacts of collective bargaining on earnings, low pay, and earnings inequality, and Part II provides some background description of the labour market ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... To indicate the extremes, the earnings gap between the top and bottom deciles of women earners in Canada is double that in Sweden (i.e. the ratio between the upper limit of D9 and the bottom limit of D2 is 3.7 compared to 1.8), and the incidence of low pay among full time women workers (defined as earning below two thirds of the economy wide median wage) is 34.3% in Canada compared to just 8.4% in Sweden. OECD countries such as Canada and Sweden are exposed to broadly comparable forces of structural change, such as exposure to international trade and investment flows and to rapid technological change, but differ significantly in terms of labour market institutions. This suggests that institutions such as collective bargaining can have significant impacts on the quality of jobs as well as on the level of inequality between wage earners. As the OECD notes, a major explanation for large differences between countries is labour market institutions: different institutional settings with regard to wage bargaining, legal minimum wages and the generosity of unemployment and other related benefits appear to account for some of the wide variation across countries in the over all incidence of low pay. More specifically, it was established in the OECD analysis that there is a high and negative correlation between collective bargaining coverage and the incidence of low pay. Similarly, a major set of Canada U.S. comparative studies has showed that labour ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Siddhartha is characterized to be not only a well known character in the area he lives in, but a beloved one as well. Siddhartha is the perfect person in his parents, Govinda s, and many others eyes as he is a master of meditation, a handsome person born into the religious group of the area, and is well mannered. However, despite his perfections , he is not satisfied with who he is. 2. Govinda, for a lack of a better term, is essentially in love with everything about Siddhartha. The book mentions all about how Siddhartha is loved by Govinda, who loves his eyes, his voice, his walk (his movement actually), and most of all, he loves his friend s spirit. In good parts of the period, labor unions were defeated and implementation of tax cuts for the rich took place. 42% of the entire financial wealth generated by the economy of the United States during the 21 year period went to the richest 1%. The Current Statistical Trends of the Wealth Inequality in the United States Before the onset of the 2007/2008 global financial crisis, the 10% richest Americans group owned 80% of entire financial assets in the United States. The top 20% richest Americans possessed 85% of the nation s wealth meaning the bottom 80% of Americans only owned 15%. At this time, the richest 1% owned 35% of the total wealth of America. After the great financial recession that began in the last quarter of 2007, these figures changed dramatically. The portion of American wealth owned by the 1% richest Americans rose from 35% to 37.2% while that owned by the 20% richest Americans increased from 85% to 87.8%. A flood myth is a myth in which a great flood, sent by a god, or gods, to destroy civilization. Two very common myths talked about today are the Epic of Gilgamesh and the Bibles Noah s Ark. Even though there are many similarities between the two, I would like to compare the Epic of Gilgamesh to a 2008 film The Happening, directed by M Night Shyamalan. In the Epic of Gilgamesh one of the gods, Enlil, sent a flood over the earth in order to rid the human race. However, another god, Ea, didn t agree with the idea, so she told Utnapishtim to build an ark and collect animals to protect them. When the flood was over and Enlil realized there were still some humans left, he was angry. However, Ea tells him that he is reckless and that all men should not pay the price for one man s crime. Students are not necessarily aided, they are required to learn like their peers from the teacher and ask for direction when needed in English. • 49. Analysis Of John Donne s Holy Sonnet Xiv In Holy Sonnet XIV, John Donne directly addresses God using a desperate and forceful tone. The formal structure of Donne s holy sonnet follows the basic Petrarchan sonnet form. The sonnet has fourteen lines divided into an octave and a sestet. The rhyme scheme of the octave is abba abba. The sestet has the rhyme scheme cdcdee. Donne expresses his spiritual turmoil and longing by using this structure to present different metaphors that illustrate his condition, and he uses Petrarchan conventions to further highlight his spiritual desires. The octave introduces and illustrates the spiritual difficulty that Donne finds himself in trapped in, and wants God to take him out of. The first line starts with Donne s desperate and urgent command to God to batter or violently beat his heart (1). Donne uses the metaphor of his heart as a metal object, and God as a metal smith to support this command. Donne s heart is a broken object that the metal smith has gently stroked, breathed on to shine, and polished, in order to fix the broken parts. However, Donne claims that this is not enough. The metal smith needs to break, blow, burn in order to make the object new (4). The metal smith must apply more force to shatter the object, and then place it into the fire to melt, so the metal can be purified and new. Donne seems to be telling God that his heart is too broken by sin to be mended through God s normal ways of opening the heart to faith again. God needs to bend ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Legislation decided that States were able to regulate abortion into the second trimester, only to reasonable promote the interest of the women s health. The third trimester was the first time the state was able to say no to protect the life of the fetus (Arrigo Waldman, 2014).
