Life In Industrialized Cities In The 19th Century
All change is hard at first, messy in the middle and gorgeous at the end (Sharma). Change is what
helps improve the world we live in. During the Industrial Revolution in the eighteenth and nineteenth
centuries, the way people live was drastically changing. In the beginning, living conditions in cities
were terrible, but as regulations were put into effect and as time passed, these living conditions greatly
improved. Life in industrialized cities was an improvement over life in the country as a result of the
Industrial Revolution because of improvements in transportation, working conditions, and the creation
of job opportunities.
Improvements in transportation as a result of the Industrial Revolution made life in the cities an
improvement over life in the country. In order to further development, more railroads were ... Show

Workers in the cities were unhappy with the working conditions and decided they needed to do
something about it: Organized into strong unions and large political parties, workers were able to
campaign for changes in the law (Clare 48). Workers were able to unite in the form of unions. These
unions fought for better working conditions which led to laws improving working conditions. At first,
city life was extremely poor. This was completely changed with new laws and regulations: Laws were
passed requiring safety standards in factories, setting minimum age limits for young workers,
establishing schools for children whose parents both worked, and creating other standards for the
protection of workers (Newton). As a result of poor working conditions, restrictions were created
which improved working conditions. This made life in the cities better than life in the country because
most of the jobs were located in the cities and these improved working conditions led to better job
satisfaction and healthier

Analysis Of Joy Castro s On Becoming Educated
In Hungry and On Becoming Educated by Joy Castro as well as Our Secret by Susan Griffin, personal
and political history work in similar ways to uncover the magnitude of similarities everyone contains.
Castro uses her personal stories to emphasize societal norms, in relation to feminism, and how they
affect and have affected learning similarly in history and modern times. Griffin takes on a similar task,
but she relates her childhood interactions with family to those affected by the Holocaust, particularly
Heinrich Himmler. Both writers identify sections in which they utilize elements of autobiography to
connect individual life to the larger cultural and political implications by placing similar stories in
order and broadening their choice of words and phrases. Castro and Griffin portray exactly how
similar actions and occurrences can be due to the way society influences people and their ignorance,
deception, and hidden intentions. Ignorance is not bliss when it comes to the modern world, but
history still affects the way people think today due to the close minded nature of uninformed citizens.
In Castro s On Becoming Educated, she accepts the fact that ignorance is overwhelmingly prevalent in
today s society; however, she works to fill the academy s blind spots (Castro 270) by pushing others to
recognize all sides of an argument and be curious about historical events and changes that affect them.
Throughout her many journeys with literature courses, Castro found the choice of books to be rather
narrow minded. In retrospect, she [realizes] that these small incidents were negotiations of power
(Castro 268), and conserving socially accepted positions on issue was more important to certain
professors than challenging those beliefs. Historically, the process of shying away from debating and
acknowledging other s opinions has always been a norm. Castro acknowledges this connection
between present day life and the past by broadening her perspective through words and generally
referring to the what has already occurred in history. Overtime and with teaching experience, Castro
has learned not to back down (Castro 269) when presented with opposing opinions. In regards to
welcoming students with different

Is the emphasis on a Color Blind Society an Answer to Racism?
Racism is a word that sparks a nerve in many individuals today. As hard as it is to believe, racism is
still a big factor in what we as a society know as a unified America. Although, it is not as obvious as it
was in the past, it still goes on, just in ways that are less noticeable. We ask the question, is the
emphasis on a color blind society an answer to racism. Ward Connerly claims it is a way to stop the
segregation and make America a whole as it has been striving to be for the longest. Eduardo Bonilla
Silva believes color blind racism is the new racial ideology and still brings about racial inequality. As
the solution to the question progresses, we ask ourselves, will a ... Show more content on

He is the founder of the American Civil Rights Institute and an outspoken supporter of equal
opportunities for all Americans. He expressed his views on racism by discussing an encounter he had
with a woman. While explaining his desire to succeed at having a color blind government, the woman
commented by replying what he was doing was going to be best for his people. Although, she may not
have realized her remark offended him, situations similar to that occur all the time especially with
blacks and minorities. Persons may do it without the intention to insult, but that just proves that
everyone is viewed more so by color than by characteristics and personality. Many minorities will
always be judged by their color because whites believe that they will never have higher power. Even
though Ward Connerly went through rough obstacles growing up involving race, rather than focusing
on the bad experiences he had, he claimed that if you take people at face value and give them an
opportunity, race is irrelevant. He supports the emphasis on a color blind society so people won t use
discrimination based on the color of one s skin. He used examples such as classifications and how
there was no need to classify people by race. After the Civil War, with having separation for
bathrooms, poll taxes and water fountains, distinguishing differences between people should have
been stopped. He decided to place the Racial Privacy

African Americans Should NOT Be Allowed In Law Enforcement
Just the other day as I was watching the news I became aware of another police involved shooting of
an unarmed African American man. With that being said after watching the video a handful of times I
came to the conclusion that this man was not posing an intimate treat to law enforcement offices. This
can be said to be true because the man didn t appear to be doing anything out of the ordinary. In fact it
looked like he was doing what law enforcement would have wanted him to do. Nevertheless another
unarmed man was killed, this time with his hands in the air. This particular incident then made me
think about our first live session. I believe that to be the case because we spent a significant amount of

Inoperable Brain Tumors Research Paper
Is There Treatment for Inoperable Brain Tumors? A person has a 0.55 0.7% chance of developing any
type of brain tumor in their lifetime (Mohammadi and Schroeder 1). A brain tumor is a mass of
abnormal cells located somewhere in the brain. Brain tumors can be caused by many different
disorders including Tuberous Sclerosis Complex (TSC). Some tumors caused by this disorder are
inoperable. Inoperable brain tumors can now be treated using new advanced technology.
Technological advances provide new hope for patients who have inoperable brain tumors and TSC.
TSC is a rare genetic disorder that is the source of benign (noncancerous) tumors located in the brain,
heart, kidneys, and other organs (Mayo Clinic Staff). In most cases TSC is diagnosed early in infancy,
but in other cases it is not diagnosed for several years. In certain cases, patients have such mild signs
that the disorder will go undiagnosed. One in six thousand people have been diagnosed with TSC.
Although this is a rare disease, awareness is building and multiple TSC clinics have been built across
the country to assists those with the disorder. TSC is caused by a genetic mutation in the TSC1 or
TSC2 gene. The mutations in these genes cause several lesions in the body to appear. This is caused

Comparing God And Identity
God and Jesus are not the same in terms of identity. Jesus the Son and God the Father are the same
being. Even still, Jesus himself has His own identity. The Bible explains that God is three in one in
Matthew 28:18 20. He is God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. They each have
different personalities and identities, yet they still form one being. God the Father plays a role in
which He oversees or generates many different things. If God and Jesus were truly the same all
around, then the scripture John 3:16 would be in vain. God the Father and God the Son (Jesus) are
actually two different people, but of the same essence. Therefore, Jesus (the Son) did not pray to
Himself in the garden of Gethsemane. He prayed to God the Father

Brandix I4 Case Study
With the formation of Brandix i3 since 2012, the Brandix group had to face a drastic change in the
entire company. This situation is based on the theoretical field of change management. Change
management is a process of transitioning individuals, groups of organizations to the expected future
state. The main objective of change management is to ensure change s record, evaluation,
authorization, prioritization, planning, testing, implementation and reviewing in a control manner. It is
considered that major change is never successful unless the complacency level is low. However,
change is a common thread that runs through all organizations regardless of size of the organization,
industry or history. The key part of managing change depends on how far the people within it
understand the process of change. Change is a constant feature of organizational life and the ability to
manage it is seen as a core competence of successful organizations.

Major Depressive Disorder Research Paper
Pre Discovery Introduction As a disorder that is predicted to affect 9.5% of the US adult population in
any given year, Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) is a mental illness that can last for long periods of
time if left untreated (National Institute of Mental Health, n.d.). The symptoms associated with MDD
vary from person to person, but the most common include a depressed mood, lack of energy, feelings
of hopelessness, pessimism, irritability or guilt, fatigue, lack of interest in hobbies and activities that
used to be pleasurable, weight fluctuations, suicidal thoughts, and having trouble focusing and making

Everyone Doesn T Be Equal In Harrison Bergeron
Out of around 7.347 billion people in the world, there is not one person who is the exact same. We all
have physical differences, we all talk differently, think differently, we have different interests,
motivated differently, different drives, desires, we all have different goals and dreams.
One can ask can an Equal society exist? Is it possible?
According to the fact that everyone is different in many ways, it isn t possible for everyone to be
equal. According to the story Harrison Bergeron all humans can never truly be equal. We see in the
beginning of the story the reader learns that the gifted are handicapped, but the ability to reason hasn t

Identity In American Psycho
American Psycho , written by Bret Easton Ellis (1991), conveys the wealthy lifestyle of Patrick
Bateman who is a Manhattan businessman. As it is written from Bateman s perspective, the story
follows his routine at work, his meetings with his acquaintances and also his inner thoughts and
feelings which slowly unveil to be psychotic and gruesome.
The theme of personal identity is constant within the novel, as shown through Bateman s character.
Being a businessman working in Wall Street during the 80s, the people around him are all of similar
nature living an extravagant life of grandeur and obsessed with appearance. Within this type of
environment, the book portrays all of these characters as pretty much the same and also
interchangeable ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This becomes clearer after his violent killings of people on street, which makes it difficult to
understand how he would have gotten away with it, and certainly towards the end of the book, the line
between reality and Bateman s hallucinations is very much blurred to him. The events described
during the scene when he is chased by the police is very dramatised by Bateman and the narration
suddenly changes to third person ... I lose control entirely [...] Patrick tries to put the cab in reverse but
nothing happens... . This suggests that perhaps all his violent delusions are just his imaginings and that
he doesn t really know what is real and what is not. Other examples include the part when he finds
Paul Owen s apartment to be pristine and empty, then is told to leave by an estate agent, and also when
his lawyer tells him that he had dinner with Paul Owen just 10 days ago, therefore Bateman couldn t
have possibly killed Owen. This links in with the relationship of the mind and body and also the
concept of Cartesian Dualism, made by the famous French philosopher René Descartes. It theorised
that the mind and body are separate and that the conscience works differently to the body and matter.
From this, Bateman s behaviours may be explained. As Bateman believes that his actions or his
psychotic fantasies are what being Patrick means to him , he truly

Alzheimer s Disease Essay
ALZHEIMER S DISEASE
Our memories are priceless. It makes our life beautiful and worth living. Most importantly, it connects
us with people around us. But what if those memories start fading away? What if it becomes difficult
to remember names of people or places? This is the horror of Alzheimer s, a form of dementia
affecting millions of people across the globe. It is also one leading cause of death globally.
Nature of Alzheimer s
Alzheimer s disease starts with small loss of memory and momentary confusions. As the condition
worsens, the disease erases a whole lot of memories, skills, cognitive ability till it reaches to nothing.
It is a type of dementia that causes problems with memory, thinking and behavior. It is characterized

These plaques mess up the brain cells by choking the brain cells and snapping the connections
between them. Consequently, it leads to the death of the brain cells.
Types of Alzheimer s
Alzheimer s can be broadly classified into two types early onset and late onset.
Early onset It occurs in people between the age group of 30 to 60. If either father or mother carries a
gene mutation for early onset Alzheimer s, then their child will have a fifty percent chance of
inheriting the disease. If the child inherits the gene mutation, his risk factor to get the disease will be
very high. Early onset is caused by any one of a number of different single gene mutations on
chromosomes which causes formation of abnormal proteins.
Late onset Most of the Alzheimer s patients have the late onset form which normally occurs after 60.
The cause of it though not fully known, but they likely are due to a combination of genetic,
environmental and lifestyle factors.
Good news
Many years ago, scientists thought that Alzheimer s was incurable. But recent breakthroughs in
research have given us to hope to cling on. Advances in brain imaging have allowed scientists to

Examples Of Direct Characterization In Of Mice And Men
One of the most astounding books Of Mice and Men, by John Steinbeck, took place in one of the
darkest time period in American History, the Great Depression. The setting of the book took place in a
small country town in Soledad California, near the Salinas River. This book introduces the two main
characters, George Milton, and Lennie Small with real life struggles of being migrant farm workers
for a ranch. The story opens up with one of the many conflicts that George and Lennie will face
throughout the whole story; George and Lennie running away from Weed after feeling a girls red
dress. Although Lennie commits certain acts of violence in Of Mice and Men John Steinbeck portrays
Lennie Small as having the traits common to the innocent archetype.
John Steinbeck portrays Lennie s characterizations through indirect and direct characterizations.
Indirect characterization is when the author will describe a person about how they are through context
clues but not directly saying it. For example, No whatta want? Let s have different color rabbits
George. (Steinbeck 16). That is indirect characterization for Lennie being childish because John
Steinbeck does not come straight out and say that Lennie is childish, but readers can tell by the context
that he is childish. Direct characterization is when the author comes right out to the readers and says
the characters traits. For instance, Behind him walked his opposite, a huge man... (Steinbeck 2). This
being direct characterization

The By Daniel Quinn s Ishmael, And Plato s Allegory Of...
Captivity is a subject that has been discussed thoroughly by many people. Captivity is the main
concept touched in Daniel Quinn s novel, Ishmael, and Plato s Allegory of the Cave. Plato makes the
compelling argument that people are captives of the world of ignorance. Ishmael complements Plato s
allegory by agreeing that there are two groups of people, that it would be difficult to distinguish the
truth, and that people are being deceived. Plato and Ishmael were both able to indicate that there are
two groups of people. In his allegory, Plato had described a cave with human beings living in it, they
cannot move, and can only see before them..between the fire and the prisoners there is a raised way..
(DiYanni 406). He said that these people were prisoners who were left to believe that the shadows
casted before them were the real truth. But the second group was people out of the cave. Similarly,
Ishmael described that there were groups of people in the cave and out of it. The world of the Takers is
one vast prison, and except for a handful of Leavers scattered across the world.. (Quinn 251). Ishmael
has defined these two groups as Takers and Leavers. The Takers being those who are chained in the
cave believing the world was made for their conquering shadow. To further explain the difference
between people in the cave and people out of it, Quinn uses modern culture. You call yourselves
civilized and all the rest primitive...the people of London and Paris and Baghdad

Richardson et al. [10] reported a series of eight patients undergoing abdominal vascular surgical
procedures.
Following induction of general anesthesia, bilateral

other analgesia such as diclofenac and patient controlled analgesia with morphine. Th ere was no need
for additional intraoperative opioids or neuromuscular blockers and excellent postoperative analgesia

Wound infi ltration with a LA was described for the fi rst time in 1935 by Capelle. Afterwards, Blades

Ford used this technique for gynecological procedures, reporting a decrease in opioid requirements

Hopf et al. [13] confi rmed that the reduction in pain caused by local infi ltration reduces the
decreased wound perfusion and oxygenation induced by infl ammatory response and increased
catecholamines, thus improving wound healing, and this was observed in this study as no cases of
postoperative wound infection were recorded within 1 month [13,14].
In a systematic review performed by Liu et al. [4], the usefulness of this analgesic method was confi

Muscle Contraction Lab
This lab was conducted to test the muscle reaction to three different solutions and observe the muscle
contraction in the presence of each solution. We predicted that ATP solution in distilled water might
cause muscle contraction since ATP alone binds to myosin to break the cross bridge and enable the
myosin to rebind to actin at the next muscle contraction. ( ATP and Muscle Contraction. Boundless
Biology) All three groups were given a 2cm length of psoas muscle, which was placed on a
microscope slide with a small drop of glycerol. First, we measured each fiber, and then added 2 drops
of one of the solutions, Solution A; .25% ATP in distilled water, Solution B; .25% ATP solution in
water, .05M KCI, .001 M MgC12 in distilled water, and Solution C; .05 M KC1, .001 M MgC12 in
distilled water. We waited 30 seconds after adding the solution and we measured the fiber again to see
if there was any muscle concentration after adding the solution. Our hypothesis was not supported,
because the fiber size did not change.
Purpose:
The purpose of this lab was to learn if any of the three solutions used for the experiment would cause
the fiber to have a muscle contraction and if there wasn t any muscle contraction, understand why the
solution didn t cause a muscle contraction.

Rhetorical Analysis Of Is Google Making Us Stupid
Major Paper II:Rhetorical Analysis In the article, Is Google Making Us Stupid , the main argument the
author, Nicholas Carr is trying to make is to explain how the Internet becomes our only source of
information. Carr is also trying to warn oncoming generations in how the Internet has affected our
ability to read long pieces or to be able to retain information for a long period of time. Carr provides
personal experience, imagery, and a professional analysis that is backed by research to hook the

any solutions.Throughout the article Carr provides an abundant amount of rhetorical modes by giving
examples and studies from different organizations . Carr gives an insight on the positive ways the
Internet had influenced his life.
The author s tone changes in paragraph 4 when Carr talks about how the Internet has altered his mind
by crumbling away at how much he can concrete. When Carr states For me, as for others, the Net is
becoming a universal medium in paragraph four the author provides his counter argument which is to
warn the incoming generations the dangers of the Internet before his main argument. Which is that the
Internet is making us stupid and is altering how we think, by doing this it allows Carr to spend the rest
of the article refuting his main argument.

high numbers are mostly because of a big litter that was unplanned. Removing a pet s reproductive

One interesting thing that I have learned so far in the class is understanding that location is an
important factor when it comes to quality of life. When looking at both of the books we have read in
class, location has been a reason why most people have a rough life. When a town is in poverty it
directly relates to the crime rate and drug use. People must find way to support their families and
selling drug is on of the ways which of course, relates to jail time as seen in Keepin On. Another
problem seen when living in poverty due to location is the school systems and quality of teachers is
affect. Teacher in public school are not up to par due to the lack of funding the town provide to have
quality teachers. Finally, when a town is in poverty, the job outlook decreases. Many find that the

The Effects Of Aerobic Exercise On Executive Control In...
In the article, the purpose of this study was to verify and compare how the effect of 10 min of aerobic
exercise performed above and below lactate threshold (LT) on executive control in children. In the
article, it mentions how children are becoming sedentary. That means it increase the prevalence of
overweight and low physical fitness. This much inactivity affects brain health and some aspects of
cognition. It affects the executive control. It s something to be concern about because in childhood
there are some extensive changes in the brain structure, function, and connectivity. If children can
have an active lifestyle it may have protective effects on brain health across the lifespan. While

Descriptive Essay About Grandparents To Louisiana
One year ago our family was invited to go on a family vacation with our grandparents to Louisiana, a
place that always intrigued me, I thought it was a place where I would want to move one day, settle
down and enjoy life. The trip was fun until the family down in Louisiana decided to take a trip to the
city of New Orleans . Which was on my list to go see because of the magnificent food, and the
fragrance of cajun food. Though I quickly changed my mind to this place that seemed, alien and
sorrowful to me, which changed my life for good. With gleaming lights that took over the night sky,
the drive was long and grueling. The old rickety truck chairs that were comfy to sit up in. The trees,

So now we hopped in our truck and started to drive off towards the south, we could tell by every
minute when we got closer, the rocks and hills, and mountains started to wither away, the trees began
to be growing in marshes. The lakes seemed to be getting bigger, the plants and flowers started to
change as we got closer. Until we realized that we were in Louisiana by checking the GPS, we already
knew by everyone around us that we were in Louisiana. I was exhilarated and happy, but all that
changed, when everyone didn t act the kindest, they looked different, everything was different. So
being me I did like some aspects about this but picturing it in my head, things looked different. I didn t
imagine it to be like this. So then we pulled into a cajun restaurant which was new to me, the food and
drinks were new. I didn t take this too kindly, I wasn t used to changing back then. Putting down our
menus, we see a truck pull in, of course knowing who it is, Valerie, Amelia, and Bethany hop out of
the truck and start beginning to greet everyone they have not seen. It s been so long Amelia, and
Valerie said almost at the same time. I Know, I said sort of loud because I was excited and also haven t

The Frontier Of American History
In the Significance of the Frontier in American History, Frederick Jackson Turner discusses the
understanding of the West as a concept. Turner s claims included that the expansion into the frontier
fueled individualism, stimulated democracy and nationalism, and widened the opportunity of
advancement. In the census of 1890, the frontier no longer had a place in the report because the
previously unsettled areas had been broken into areas of settlement. Turner uses the definition of two
people per square mile of land as the frontier s official closing, and no longer a point of historical
relevance. In the essay, Turner points out the differences in America s expansion with other nations.
Other nations developed in a confined area, then ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The problem developed from excess credit of one of the field s founders, Frederick Jackson Turner.
Although Turner s writings left out large groups of people, many Americans viewed Turner s thesis as
Western history. When Turner s ideas began to be criticized, that something had gone wrong in
Western history, not Turner s thesis. The view of Western history slowly began to change. Turner
recognized the national significance of the frontier, so abandoning him would threaten the place of the
West in American history (Limerick). In 1984, American historian Patricia Limerick attended a history
conference. All of the focus of the history of America was on the revolutionary war in the East. This
inspired her to write Legacy of Conquest. Limerick wanted to reclaim what other historians have said,
critique Turner, but not throw the idea of the west away. Her thesis argues the West as a place of
property and cultural dominance. Limerick defines the West as a place of conquest and diversity.
Limerick stresses the West as a place rather than a process, but didn t draw exact borders of the region.
Limerick deemphasizes the end of the frontier; she argues that the West was an important meeting
ground for a diversity of languages, cultures, and religions, including minorities Turner left out. This
blending of diversity in the West is an

Comparing Goldilocks And Bill Cleaver s Where The Lilies...
The novel, Where the Lilies Bloom has a striking similarity to the tale of Goldilocks and the Three
Bears. When you take a look at Where the Lilies Bloom, by Vera and Bill Cleaver, the comparison
becomes eminent very quickly. Within the first couple of chapters, the characters in Where the Lilies
Bloom begin to resemble characters in Goldilocks and the Three Bears. Kiser Peace, an uneducated
and superstitious man, takes the role of the bear in this story. Mary Call Luther, an intelligent young
girl who has become the head of the household after her father s death, and Romey, Mary Call s 10
year old brother, start to both represent Goldilocks. Goldilocks and the Three Bears is definitely
comparable to Where the Lilies Bloom. This first quote can make it easier to see how these two books
coincide. Romey and Mary Call are outside of Kiser s house when Romey says, It s not latched. You
reckon it d be all right if we just went in (Cleaver 20)? If that s not enough later, Mary Call says, Let s
just step inside a minute, Romey (Cleaver 21). In the story Goldilocks and the Three Bears,
Goldilocks enters the bear s house without their permission. This quote clearly depicts how related
these books are. It is easy to see the resemblance here but there is much more evidence to back this up.

San Jose Mercury News Editorial, authors of Remedial costs are too high for CSU to bear highlight
the San Jose State University policy that took place in 2009. The policy is about Freshmen students
who are required to take remedial classes since their math or English basic college level aren t good

Keystone Habit Research Paper
Keystone habit is a change of a behavior that can form other positive habits. It creates a chain reaction
on the way we live our life. Based on Habits as Change Levers by Daniel Denison and Levi Nieminen,
the authors give an example on how changing keystone habit can affect other habit and be
advantageous. To start with, Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) is an authority that
manages all public transportation in New York City and surrounding areas including Long Island. This
includes a high volume subway system, which carries an average of 5.4 million passengers per day
(1.6 billion per year) (Denison and Nieminen 26). The subway service not only helps the New Yorker
to escape the traffic congestion, but also tourist to get around the city. So, it was crucial for MTA s
crews to make sure the subway system is operating without stop and safely. However, the subway

This unprecedented decision was made when the subway system experienced several high profile
safety incidents. It involved a worker fatality and a blizzard that left some passengers stranded for 10
hours without food, water and heat. As a result, a program named FastTrack was introduced to identify
and shut down the whole track s section for maintenance from 10 p.m. until 5a.m. of the following
day. This allows the maintenance crews to access the tracks, signals, cables and other rail components
without any interruption. At first, the public outcry over the new subway service because they never
accustomed to any interruption to the service. However, the program has given many benefits over
time. It was reported that it has improved productivity, saved money (estimated savings of $16.7
million in 2012), cut accident rates nearly in half, and increased train reliability by nearly 5% (26).
These achievement is clearly achieved because MTA has changed its keystone habit, which is running

The Fifa World Cup Event
The FIFA World Cup, as one of the most prestigious sporting events in the world that comes around
every four years, is often assumed by potential host countries as highly profitable. Current research,
however, suggests that the economic growth experienced by these host nations due to the World Cup
event is lower than the expectations they had. Specifically, a number of economists assert that no
observable short term economic growth exists within the tourism, retailing, accommodation, and
employment sectors of each one of the host countries (Allmers Maennig, 2009). As for the long term
impacts, some scholars insist that the World Cup cannot boost the four sectors listed above (Baumann,
Robert, Bryan Engelhardt, and Victor A. Matheson 2012), while others argue that other beneficial
factors, that do not affect the host countries in the short term, generate economic profits for host
countries in the long term (Maennig, 2009). Some scholars even critique this claim, however, arguing
that the new factors won t bring profits to host countries.
In my opinion, the World Cup seems to give the allusion that it will benefit the economy right away in
the short run, but this not necessarily true. On the other hand it is beneficial to the host countries and
the international economy in the long run, assuming that different factors are considered in the long
term analysis. These factors include the novelty effect of new stadiums, the feel good effect on
citizens, and the World Cup s effect

Nuclear Energy
A report for Zebra Tech
Abstract
This report reviews energy sources of the world traditionally used to generate electricity, namely
renewable and non renewable sources, giving a brief overview of each of the 6 methods and how they
generate electricity, and evaluates the suitability of each by weighing up their advantages and
disadvantages. It introduces nuclear energy and gives a detailed description of the setup and process
whereby electricity is produced from nuclear energy. By weighing up a broad spectrum of advantages
and disadvantages of using nuclear energy, specifically various costs, risks and efficiency, in
comparison to traditional generation methods, the report determines that nuclear energy is indeed
suitable to use throughout the world.

My subject and person that I chose to perform this movement is Carolyn Gardner, 12 year old
beginner basketball player in the sixth grade. She is on the junior varsity team and this is her first time
playing basketball on a team. This is her first time playing any team sport. Right now she is learning
the basics and having a hard time focusing but that is expected being her first year. The reason I chose
Carolyn is because since this is her first time playing basketball on a team and her first sport, there is
no muscle memory developed as of yet. I can analyze her foul shot and movements and see raw
unrehearsed kinetics of her movements.
The methods of data collection I will use to analyze Carolyn s movement skills in the fouls shot are a
digital camcorder recording of sagittal plane of her dominant side, also frontal plane view. I will use
Coaches Eye, a video recording application. Three times will be recorded for analysis. I also will
physically record on a chart. My limitations will be the environment because I will have to conduct
this analysis outside of a gym, so I will not have a basketball hoop but I will have a goal for Carolyn
to aim for. With this data that I will apply it to what I have researched about gaining and practicing the
best skill for the ultimate performance. Then I will have my subject Carolyn practice and then re

Corruption Of The Russian Government
Abstract
Over the past decade (from 2004 to 2014), political corruption in Russia government is gradually
uncovered by some global medias and organizations. Such tendency not only repainted the entire
landscape of Russia government, but also raised public awareness on the significance of preventing a
greater deterioration of this political phenomenon worldwide. This report aims to prove such political
phenomenon is unethical through the comparison with code of conduct, and to provide tangible
measures and solutions. The result suggests that high level of corruption in the Russian government is
one of the factors of inflation. It is also found that corruption will lead to social issues. Most
importantly, such political behavior is unethical regarding the code of conduct. In order to achieve a
revolutionary change in the Russia government, therefore, a redefinition of legislation and a recreation
of domestic press are indispensible.

The Crusades Effects Essay
There were several effects of the Crusades on the European continent. To summary, the European
continent was mainly affect by the in ideology in religion and king s power.
From the Crusader s point of view, Islam and Judaism should be replaces by Christianity totally even
with the help of violence. In this way, the Crusaders began their persecution against the Jews
throughout the European continent. When Jerusalem was finally caught, the Muslim and Jewish
people were killed in bulk. Later, the slaughter against Muslim and Jews was utilized as an excuse to
indict the Roman Catholic Church in the period of Protestant Reformation. As a result of this, many
people in the European began to lose faith in the Roman Catholic Church since it was no longer
regarded as a moral authority.[1] The violence carried out by the Christians was considered to be
brutal. With the increasing scale of influence of the membership within European continent, there was
also an increase in the loyalty to the church. Consequently, the religious tolerance got low, which

What Is The Double Spiral Of Conflict

motive. All the workers, for exsample, in an oil refining company have a lot of knowledge, interest

and eventually cause separation due to their different views. The double spiral of conflict contains two
ends where the upper end explains some of the values that will bring back the parties together while
the other end strains the whole group to a downfall. When the two camps are separated, they will try
to create a conflict, and as both do not want to retreat, they see themselves as supposed to fight back

a little extra flavor, top the sandwich off with a wedge or two of avocado.

Summary Of In Cold Blood By Truman Capote
In Cold Blood by Truman Capote Entry #1: Speaker
Truman Capote is described in the biography section of the book as being born in 1924 in New
Orleans. He, over his lifetime, wrote a variety of works from short stories to memoirs. In the
acknowledgments, he says that the information presented in the book is taken from official records or
is the result of interviews. He then goes on to mention some of the important people to help make the
book happen like the members of Finney County, the place where the event happened, and notable
members of institutions like Kansas State University and the Kansas Bureau of Investigation. Capote
did not find any of the information first hand, nor is he from the state in which the crime occurred. He
simply wrote a clear account of what happened by using interviews and police notes after the fact.
Truman Capote s relationship to the topic was simply that he volunteered to be the voice of a case that
otherwise might not have been heard throughout the country and around the world in full detail and
for years to come.
Throughout the book, Capote establishes himself as a qualified and trustworthy writer through his use
of ethos, or credibility. He shows the degree of precision and accuracy of his facts by mentioning
highly trusted individuals and organizations. For example, he says while describing Alvin Dewey, the
head of the case for the state as being a former sheriff of Finney County and F.B.I. Special Agent.
When describing the total

The Good Shepherd Village ( Gsv )
The Good Shepherd Village (GSV) located on 300 acres in a semi rural community within easy
driving distance of Philadelphia had history of more than 20 years. In the facility, GSV has 570
independent living units 120 licensed nursing card beds, 30 assisted living beds and 20 studio units.
The management team at GSV is very conservative, they nervous to make changes or adapt to some
new ideas.
Key players
The key player in the case is Pat Evans, became Director of Health Services for six months at GSV,
and he noticed two main issues at GSV, 1) most of the decisions for levels of care are economic
driven; 2) weak correlation between each department.
Therefore, he promotes his idea about integrated delivery system to the board, and he forms a group
called The Geriatric assessment and Care Planning Team which gather medical, rehabilitation, social
services, nursing staffs to work together on resident health assessment. But his plan bristled with
difficulties.
Some other key players are Reverend Kathleen Mueller, the chair of board, she strong supports the
plan; Dr. Alexis Schmidt who is Medical Director, he deeply disagrees Pat s idea about integrated
delivery systems; Bill Wagner, executive director, Dr. Schmidt and she make the final decision to
determine the residents level of care, and she has concern of pat s plan as well. And there are also
some minor players like, Louise Richards, chief physical therapist; Maggie Newman, Director of
nursing.

Many Of The World Large Indusial Companies In Foreign...
Many of the world large indusial companies in foreign countries do not follow regulations for
pollution and carbon dioxide (Co2). The toxic waste is causing major health issues for not only the
people that live in these countries but the world. These gasses have been found in our water and food
supplies; this toxin is also eating away the ozone layer for the atmosphere. This second layer helps

These changes are expected to have considerable impacts on human health. Mounting evidence
suggests current and future effects on human health, including injuries and illnesses from severe
weather events, like floods, and heat exposure. Increases in allergic, respiratory, vector borne, and
waterborne diseases; and threats to food and water supplies. Indirect effects may include anxiety and
depression and the consequences of mass migration and regional conflicts. Addressing these
occurrences is a pressing challenge for public health. Although the scope and complexity of the
problem are unprecedented, the theoretical framework for responding draws on long standing public
health thinking per the article published by Frumkin, Hess, Luber, Malilay, McGeehin, (2008).
Identified in the article by Satterthwaite, Huq, Pelling, Rerd, Lankao, (2007). The differentials in
greenhouse gas emissions per person between rich and poor groups can be much larger than the gaps
between rich and poor nations. For example, the greenhouse gas emissions generated as a result of the
high consumption lifestyle of a very wealthy person or household is likely to be hundreds of
thousands or even millions of times more than that generated by many low income families in low
income nations. The very existence of some small island and some low income countries is that much

Calyx And Corolla Case
Calyx Corolla introduced a revolutionary distribution model that links consumers directly with
growers via FedEx Air. In such, they allow for faster delivery and greater longevity of their product.
With several players in the $9 Billion per year flower market, Calyx Corolla cornered a segment of the
market that responds well to efficient distribution because they deliver fresher flowers than traditional
retailers. Calyx Corolla excels in producing fantastic customer experiences, but their challenge is to
expand their customer base and generate repeat business.
70% of Calyx Corolla s orders come from their catalogs. Sending catalogs, a powerful marketing tool,
yields a 5 10% order rate among previous customers and a 1 2% order rate among previous recipients
and contacts from rented mailing lists. The greatest potential growth market for the company are
customers who are not accustomed to the mail ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is important, however, that they are prudent considering massive ad spend by FTD and other large
competitors just before holidays. To be successful and minimize cost, we recommend that Calyx
Corolla focus this advertising between June and October when FTD is off the air. Running a targeted
campaign in an un cluttered environment should expand the customer base by educating audiences
about the mail order concept, explaining the benefit of the direct from grower model, and creating
demand for their service on a much broader level versus mail campaigns. By airing these ads during
non holiday periods, this strategy also allows the company to continue building upon success with
continuity programs while increasing market share by tapping into the US market s move toward the
European preference for fresh flowers in their homes throughout the

Moon Landing Hoax
Moon Landing
Was the Moon landing real or a hoax? The moon landing was a major scientific breakthrough and a
great day for America. The problem is, it might ve been faked. There are many pieces of evidence
showing that it could have been faked but there is also evidence showing that the moon landing could
have also been real. I believe that the moon landing was not a hoax. The flag was blowing in the wind
but how was it supposed to stop if there is no friction on the moon? The astronauts shadows don t
match the lunar light source because there was a matte box on the camera . That there were absolutely

The Importance Of Our Thoughts
Our thoughts also are too numerous to count sometimes. Have you ever had an opportunity or a time
when you may have been sitting idle and your mind just started racing from one thing to the next?
Nothing was conclusive. You just kept going from one thing to the next. You were being bombarded
with all of these different thoughts and you could not concentrate on anything. Understand this; the
only thing that the enemy is trying to do to you and I is to bring you to a place of confusion. He wants
you to be confused. He wants you to be so confused that you can t discern whether it s you are talking,
the devil talking, or God talking. That s how confused he wants you to be. He wants you to get to a

Now wait a minute. What happened? Yesterday when I came down here, y all were drinking mint
juleps and playing golf and all that kind of stuff! Then the devil walks up to him and says, Yesterday
we were recruiting! So, what I m trying to show you, men, is that the enemy is trying to make us think
that his way is better. You know what I m saying? He wants you to think his way will give us some
great advantage or benefit or profit. But I guarantee you that his way is the way of destruction. His
way is the way of death. And it s an eternal death. Because the thing is that you will end up living in
Hell right here on Earth, and then dying and going to Hell. Are you still with me? Let me give you an
example. Your thoughts don t introduce themselves by saying where they originated. Thoughts just
come like fiery darts. Have you ever been in a place where you re just sitting and thinking, and some
stuff jumps up in your head? And you think where did that come from? Right? I shouldn t be thinking

The Five Characteristics Of An Innovator

establish projects and businesses that help in shaping the life of humanity. Many significant changes

This gave him the thought o one sound system that could craft the optimal experience of the music
and sound. The idea developed in his mind and grew to the concept for hearable. He thought of
creating some headphones that would improve the listening experience. He went on to share the
thought with a fellow executive producer who was his friend, and through this efforts, he joined the
prolific technology entrepreneurs Fritz Lawman. It was through this collaboration and involvement
with the other members in the field that made Kraft come up with the wireless ear bud innovation.
Kraft s innovation was triggered by the thought of changing the experience and improves the
efficiency of the reception of his production by the audience. He realized that the sound did not reach
to the public with the same quality as it was produced due to the different interference effects.
Therefore sharing this idea with Fritz created a challenge on how to modify the reception of the sound.
The result was the development of the wireless ear bud device which gained acceptance amongst
many people in the society. Since then the product has evolved tremendously, and the technology has
grown into a big corporation where Kraft works as the Chief executive officer.
Noah Kraft is a rookie building new and ambitious technologies. In June 2016 in San Francisco Noah
and his team unveiled a wireless ear bud that lets one listen to music just like the earphones. His

  • 2. Life In Industrialized Cities In The 19th Century All change is hard at first, messy in the middle and gorgeous at the end (Sharma). Change is what helps improve the world we live in. During the Industrial Revolution in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, the way people live was drastically changing. In the beginning, living conditions in cities were terrible, but as regulations were put into effect and as time passed, these living conditions greatly improved. Life in industrialized cities was an improvement over life in the country as a result of the Industrial Revolution because of improvements in transportation, working conditions, and the creation of job opportunities. Improvements in transportation as a result of the Industrial Revolution made life in the cities an improvement over life in the country. In order to further development, more railroads were ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Workers in the cities were unhappy with the working conditions and decided they needed to do something about it: Organized into strong unions and large political parties, workers were able to campaign for changes in the law (Clare 48). Workers were able to unite in the form of unions. These unions fought for better working conditions which led to laws improving working conditions. At first, city life was extremely poor. This was completely changed with new laws and regulations: Laws were passed requiring safety standards in factories, setting minimum age limits for young workers, establishing schools for children whose parents both worked, and creating other standards for the protection of workers (Newton). As a result of poor working conditions, restrictions were created which improved working conditions. This made life in the cities better than life in the country because most of the jobs were located in the cities and these improved working conditions led to better job satisfaction and healthier ... • 3. Analysis Of Joy Castro s On Becoming Educated In Hungry and On Becoming Educated by Joy Castro as well as Our Secret by Susan Griffin, personal and political history work in similar ways to uncover the magnitude of similarities everyone contains. Castro uses her personal stories to emphasize societal norms, in relation to feminism, and how they affect and have affected learning similarly in history and modern times. Griffin takes on a similar task, but she relates her childhood interactions with family to those affected by the Holocaust, particularly Heinrich Himmler. Both writers identify sections in which they utilize elements of autobiography to connect individual life to the larger cultural and political implications by placing similar stories in order and broadening their choice of words and phrases. Castro and Griffin portray exactly how similar actions and occurrences can be due to the way society influences people and their ignorance, deception, and hidden intentions. Ignorance is not bliss when it comes to the modern world, but history still affects the way people think today due to the close minded nature of uninformed citizens. In Castro s On Becoming Educated, she accepts the fact that ignorance is overwhelmingly prevalent in today s society; however, she works to fill the academy s blind spots (Castro 270) by pushing others to recognize all sides of an argument and be curious about historical events and changes that affect them. Throughout her many journeys with literature courses, Castro found the choice of books to be rather narrow minded. In retrospect, she [realizes] that these small incidents were negotiations of power (Castro 268), and conserving socially accepted positions on issue was more important to certain professors than challenging those beliefs. Historically, the process of shying away from debating and acknowledging other s opinions has always been a norm. Castro acknowledges this connection between present day life and the past by broadening her perspective through words and generally referring to the what has already occurred in history. Overtime and with teaching experience, Castro has learned not to back down (Castro 269) when presented with opposing opinions. In regards to welcoming students with different ... As hard as it is to believe, racism is still a big factor in what we as a society know as a unified America. Although, it is not as obvious as it was in the past, it still goes on, just in ways that are less noticeable. We ask the question, is the emphasis on a color blind society an answer to racism. Ward Connerly claims it is a way to stop the segregation and make America a whole as it has been striving to be for the longest. Eduardo Bonilla Silva believes color blind racism is the new racial ideology and still brings about racial inequality. As the solution to the question progresses, we ask ourselves, will a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He is the founder of the American Civil Rights Institute and an outspoken supporter of equal opportunities for all Americans. He expressed his views on racism by discussing an encounter he had with a woman. While explaining his desire to succeed at having a color blind government, the woman commented by replying what he was doing was going to be best for his people. Although, she may not have realized her remark offended him, situations similar to that occur all the time especially with blacks and minorities. Persons may do it without the intention to insult, but that just proves that everyone is viewed more so by color than by characteristics and personality. Many minorities will always be judged by their color because whites believe that they will never have higher power. Even though Ward Connerly went through rough obstacles growing up involving race, rather than focusing on the bad experiences he had, he claimed that if you take people at face value and give them an opportunity, race is irrelevant. He supports the emphasis on a color blind society so people won t use discrimination based on the color of one s skin. He used examples such as classifications and how there was no need to classify people by race. After the Civil War, with having separation for bathrooms, poll taxes and water fountains, distinguishing differences between people should have been stopped. With that being said after watching the video a handful of times I came to the conclusion that this man was not posing an intimate treat to law enforcement offices. This can be said to be true because the man didn t appear to be doing anything out of the ordinary. In fact it looked like he was doing what law enforcement would have wanted him to do. The Bible explains that God is three in one in Matthew 28:18 20. He is God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. They each have different personalities and identities, yet they still form one being. God the Father plays a role in which He oversees or generates many different things. If God and Jesus were truly the same all around, then the scripture John 3:16 would be in vain. God the Father and God the Son (Jesus) are actually two different people, but of the same essence. • 15. Examples Of Direct Characterization In Of Mice And Men One of the most astounding books Of Mice and Men, by John Steinbeck, took place in one of the darkest time period in American History, the Great Depression. The setting of the book took place in a small country town in Soledad California, near the Salinas River. This book introduces the two main characters, George Milton, and Lennie Small with real life struggles of being migrant farm workers for a ranch. The story opens up with one of the many conflicts that George and Lennie will face throughout the whole story; George and Lennie running away from Weed after feeling a girls red dress. Although Lennie commits certain acts of violence in Of Mice and Men John Steinbeck portrays Lennie Small as having the traits common to the innocent archetype. John Steinbeck portrays Lennie s characterizations through indirect and direct characterizations. Indirect characterization is when the author will describe a person about how they are through context clues but not directly saying it. For example, No whatta want? Let s have different color rabbits George. (Steinbeck 16). That is indirect characterization for Lennie being childish because John Steinbeck does not come straight out and say that Lennie is childish, but readers can tell by the context that he is childish. Direct characterization is when the author comes right out to the readers and says the characters traits. For instance, Behind him walked his opposite, a huge man... (Steinbeck 2). Captivity is the main concept touched in Daniel Quinn s novel, Ishmael, and Plato s Allegory of the Cave. Plato makes the compelling argument that people are captives of the world of ignorance. Ishmael complements Plato s allegory by agreeing that there are two groups of people, that it would be difficult to distinguish the truth, and that people are being deceived. Plato and Ishmael were both able to indicate that there are two groups of people. In his allegory, Plato had described a cave with human beings living in it, they cannot move, and can only see before them..between the fire and the prisoners there is a raised way.. (DiYanni 406). He said that these people were prisoners who were left to believe that the shadows casted before them were the real truth. But the second group was people out of the cave. Similarly, Ishmael described that there were groups of people in the cave and out of it. The world of the Takers is one vast prison, and except for a handful of Leavers scattered across the world.. (Quinn 251). Ishmael has defined these two groups as Takers and Leavers. The Takers being those who are chained in the cave believing the world was made for their conquering shadow. [10] reported a series of eight patients undergoing abdominal vascular surgical procedures. Following induction of general anesthesia, bilateral PVBs with catheters at T10 were placed and their use was continued after surgery for 4 days with other analgesia such as diclofenac and patient controlled analgesia with morphine. Th ere was no need for additional intraoperative opioids or neuromuscular blockers and excellent postoperative analgesia was provided. No complications were detected because of the PVB [11,12]. Wound infi ltration with a LA was described for the fi rst time in 1935 by Capelle. Afterwards, Blades and Ford used this technique for gynecological procedures, reporting a decrease in opioid requirements [13]. Hopf et al. [13] confi rmed that the reduction in pain caused by local infi ltration reduces the decreased wound perfusion and oxygenation induced by infl ammatory response and increased catecholamines, thus improving wound healing, and this was observed in this study as no cases of postoperative wound infection were recorded within 1 month [13,14]. In a systematic review performed by Liu et al. We predicted that ATP solution in distilled water might cause muscle contraction since ATP alone binds to myosin to break the cross bridge and enable the myosin to rebind to actin at the next muscle contraction. ( ATP and Muscle Contraction. Boundless Biology) All three groups were given a 2cm length of psoas muscle, which was placed on a microscope slide with a small drop of glycerol. First, we measured each fiber, and then added 2 drops of one of the solutions, Solution A; .25% ATP in distilled water, Solution B; .25% ATP solution in water, .05M KCI, .001 M MgC12 in distilled water, and Solution C; .05 M KC1, .001 M MgC12 in distilled water. We waited 30 seconds after adding the solution and we measured the fiber again to see if there was any muscle concentration after adding the solution. Our hypothesis was not supported, because the fiber size did not change. In the census of 1890, the frontier no longer had a place in the report because the previously unsettled areas had been broken into areas of settlement. Turner recognized the national significance of the frontier, so abandoning him would threaten the place of the West in American history (Limerick). In 1984, American historian Patricia Limerick attended a history conference. All of the focus of the history of America was on the revolutionary war in the East. This inspired her to write Legacy of Conquest. Limerick wanted to reclaim what other historians have said, critique Turner, but not throw the idea of the west away. Her thesis argues the West as a place of property and cultural dominance. Limerick defines the West as a place of conquest and diversity. Limerick stresses the West as a place rather than a process, but didn t draw exact borders of the region. When you take a look at Where the Lilies Bloom, by Vera and Bill Cleaver, the comparison becomes eminent very quickly. Within the first couple of chapters, the characters in Where the Lilies Bloom begin to resemble characters in Goldilocks and the Three Bears. Kiser Peace, an uneducated and superstitious man, takes the role of the bear in this story. Mary Call Luther, an intelligent young girl who has become the head of the household after her father s death, and Romey, Mary Call s 10 year old brother, start to both represent Goldilocks. Goldilocks and the Three Bears is definitely comparable to Where the Lilies Bloom. This first quote can make it easier to see how these two books coincide. Romey and Mary Call are outside of Kiser s house when Romey says, It s not latched. You reckon it d be all right if we just went in (Cleaver 20)? If that s not enough later, Mary Call says, Let s just step inside a minute, Romey (Cleaver 21). The Fifa World Cup Event The FIFA World Cup, as one of the most prestigious sporting events in the world that comes around every four years, is often assumed by potential host countries as highly profitable. Current research, however, suggests that the economic growth experienced by these host nations due to the World Cup event is lower than the expectations they had. Specifically, a number of economists assert that no observable short term economic growth exists within the tourism, retailing, accommodation, and employment sectors of each one of the host countries (Allmers Maennig, 2009). As for the long term impacts, some scholars insist that the World Cup cannot boost the four sectors listed above (Baumann, Robert, Bryan Engelhardt, and Victor A. Matheson 2012), while others argue that other beneficial factors, that do not affect the host countries in the short term, generate economic profits for host countries in the long term (Maennig, 2009). Some scholars even critique this claim, however, arguing that the new factors won t bring profits to host countries. In my opinion, the World Cup seems to give the allusion that it will benefit the economy right away in the short run, but this not necessarily true. All the workers, for exsample, in an oil refining company have a lot of knowledge, interest and intelligence about the job. These factors lead the workers to be in different camps while working and eventually cause separation due to their different views. The double spiral of conflict contains two ends where the upper end explains some of the values that will bring back the parties together while the other end strains the whole group to a downfall. Summary Of In Cold Blood By Truman Capote In Cold Blood by Truman Capote Entry #1: Speaker Truman Capote is described in the biography section of the book as being born in 1924 in New Orleans. He, over his lifetime, wrote a variety of works from short stories to memoirs. In the acknowledgments, he says that the information presented in the book is taken from official records or is the result of interviews. He then goes on to mention some of the important people to help make the book happen like the members of Finney County, the place where the event happened, and notable members of institutions like Kansas State University and the Kansas Bureau of Investigation. Capote did not find any of the information first hand, nor is he from the state in which the crime occurred. He simply wrote a clear account of what happened by using interviews and police notes after the fact. Truman Capote s relationship to the topic was simply that he volunteered to be the voice of a case that otherwise might not have been heard throughout the country and around the world in full detail and for years to come. Throughout the book, Capote establishes himself as a qualified and trustworthy writer through his use of ethos, or credibility. He shows the degree of precision and accuracy of his facts by mentioning highly trusted individuals and organizations. For example, he says while describing Alvin Dewey, the head of the case for the state as being a former sheriff of Finney County and F.B.I. Special Agent. When describing the total ...
