Aneci Persuitti ENGC 1101 SEC 43 December 15, 2014 The Effects of Cell Phone Use on Driving
Performance and Safety As technology advances, people are relying on it more and more. Cell phones
have literally become a necessity. Every day on the roads, people are driving and using their cell
phones to talk, text, browse the internet, use GPS, etc. According to the International
Telecommunication Union, the number of mobile cellular subscriptions worldwide is approaching the
number of people on earth. Mobile cellular subscriptions will reach almost 7 billion by end 2014,
corresponding to a penetration rate of 96% (3). If the number of cell phone subscribers reaches the
world s population by the end of 2014, almost every driver will have a cell phone in their car and
consequently, more drivers will be using them while driving. Can cell phone use while driving affect
driving performance and safety? The answer is yes. There are several studies related to the effect of
cell phone use on driving performance and these studies share very similar findings. In one study,
researchers Lesch and Hancock wanted to know if drivers were aware of their driving performance
when using a cell phone. The driver s driving performance was associated with the driver s confidence
level and distraction level. In particular, the higher the confidence level, the better the driving
performance was shown by the driver. The study found that male drivers had a greater confidence
level than females, while

3. The Writer in the Family
Pain Shown Through Symbolism
How does one show his or her pain? Jonathan s agony from the death of his father is
shown throughout The Writer in the Family by utilizing symbolism. To Jonathan, it s as if his
father did not die a complete death and that haunts him. This pain is shown in a unique way
throughout the story. Jonathan, as he tells this first person narrative, does not come right out and
put words to his feelings concerning his father. At the start of the story Jonathan plainly states
that his father died in 1955 and he explains the situation of how Jonathan s aunts on his dad s
side choose not to tell Jonathan s grandmother about his father s passing, but he does not reveal
the sorrow resulting from the death ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Jonathan then tells his mother that the suit is too big, since the sense of his father in
the jacket scares him. As with the symbol of a missing headstone, this image of Jonathan feeling
a little part of his father in the suit because of the lingering scent of his father, again shows how
Jonathan has not really come to accept his father s death. This symbol suggests a presence of
his father from which he has not freed himself ( Writer ). He has not been able to do so since
he is forced to keep the image of his father alive by writing letters pretending to be his father. In
the story, Jonathan does not come right out and explain his inner conflict due to the passing of
father, but instead he describes himself being uncomfortable while trying on his father s suits, to
address his conflict. Also, Jonathan s inner conflict stems deeper into the person that he will
become. Jonathan s discomfort and his sense of being less than his father are represented by his
uneasy feeling when he tries on his father s too large suit jacket (Heims 275). A suit jacket too

suggest his fear of being less than his father was. Being less than the man his father was, when
he was still living, scares Jonathan, readdressing the character s pain. In all, it is evident of

5. Censorship In Farenheit 451
During the time period of this novel, the culture and images being pushed upon people depicts
relationships of no complexity or affection (Magill, ed. 253). Falling in love is one of life s greatest
pleasures and the government has taken that away. Montag and Mille even fall victim to this with their
marriage, in fact, they do not even know how they met (Bradbury 45). This seems to bother Montag
but Millie, who is more naive and has been completely brainwashed by the government, sees it as no
big deal whatsoever. In fact, Mille seems to have seen it as a joke, which was apparent when she
makes the remark, Funny, how funny, not to remember where or when you met your husband r wife

perfect example of how the exploitation of this technology affected people. Millie spent all of her time
in her living room, which consisted of three televisions that occupied the whole wall, creating
somewhat of a barrier between her and Montag (Bradbury 47). If it were not for Millie s government
influenced obsession, Montag and Millie might have had the oppritunity to have a very loving
marriage. The programs that were being shown also skewed both Montag and Millie s ideas of family
as both of them refer to the actors and actresses on the screens as family (47). One would expect only
Millie to be guilty of this but Montag, who slightly rejected the ways of society, ...had taken to calling
them family from the very first (47). In addition to having her basic ideas of love and affection altered,
Millie s ability to think and remember simple events has been lessened by her excessive watching of
television. One day, Montag had asked Millie what show she was watching and what it was about, but,
even though she was watching it only a minute earlier, Millie was having an extremely hard time
remembering what the plot of the show was (49). Due to her naivety, Millie has fallen victim to the
culture being pushed upon her, and as a result she had

6. Descriptive Essay On A Blue Hotel
It was six o clock in the afternoon on December 31st 2008. My family and I finally landed in Newark
International Airport in New Jersey, after a seven hour delay in Lisbon, Portugal. We were now only
an hour away from our final destination: New York. By the time we got to the Blue Hotel in
Manhattan, it was 8:30 PM, at this point we were very jet lagged and hungry. We quickly washed off
the plane dirt off our buddies in the limpid, walk in shower. We looked for the fastest way to get to
Time Square. We decided to take the metro since the closest entrance was right in front of our hotel;
and we were on our way. When we arrived at our destination we were officially starving; our mouths
started to water as soon as we stepped into the bland colored restaurant, and we inhaled the sharp,
aromatic smell coming from a carefully decorated plate a server was holding. Once we finished our
meal and payed the check we walked out of the warm and comfortable restaurant, to be met with the
cold, wet air of a typical New York night.
We were now facing the elegantly decorated Central Park. The newly found atmosphere was so
frenetic that it made my heart race. The clock was now signing 11:25 PM. My mind started imagining
the eruption of excitement and celebration that would be starting in just a few minutes. We walked,
while the wind was blowing softly between the tall, shiny buildings; It had just finished raining and
the air felt heavy and humid, this made chills run through my spine.

7. Separating By John Updike And Alice Walker
Separating and Everyday Use are two short stories published by renowned American authors in the
mid 1970s. Although these works relate to two completely opposite topics of controversy in American
history, John Updike and Alice Walker both developed storylines that provide readers with a keener
sense of cultural understanding and include deep moral themes concerning the magnitude of heritage
and family in one s life. Updike s Separating is a story about a couple s struggle to inform their
children of their decision to separate for the summer. Upon their oldest daughter s return from
England, the two arranged a homecoming meal; here, Richard and Joan would have the opportunity to
discuss the situation with all four children so that they might grieve together as a family. In the
presence of three of his children, Richard begins to cry; moved by curiosity, they unearth his secret.
Although the girls seem unaffected, the youngest son frantically and drunkenly erupts; his father then
removes him from the room and shares with him a deep, rewarding conversation about his troubles.
Later that night, the eldest son also returns. Dreadfully, Richard retrieves him and apprises him of the
situation; shocked, the son flees to his bedroom. The parents enter the room and console their
saddened son; when Richard is asked to explain the reasoning behind the separation, he realizes he
had forgotten. Walker s Everyday Use is a tale concerning a mother and her daughter awaiting the

8. Immigrants In Canada
Canada is a country that is known as a mosaic of people and cultures, meaning; it opens it arms to
immigrant families and gives them the freedom to express their own cultural values, ideas, beliefs and
customs. It is this system that welcomes thousands and thousands of immigrants a year with open
arms and the idea of a better life. This idea however, is sometimes not always as easy as it is thought
to be. Though Canada is an amazing country for immigrants to start a new life and get better
education, health care, and job opportunities, immigrant families are met with many challenges before
they are able to become accustom to their new life. It is important to understand the true difficulty of
the Immigrant Experience and the impact it has on families including adults as well as children. If it is
easier to understand the difficulties immigrant families go through in search of a better life in Canada
there can be more resources made to help them. It is important to take into consideration each
individual difficulty that is faced and properly research each factor in order to have a better
understanding on how to make the complete economic and societal integration of immigrants happen
faster. There is a number of categories that relate to the integration of immigrants into society and a
number of steps they must take to be a part of Canadian society. In order to understand these steps
they have to be thoroughly researched.
Language Barriers
When immigrants first step into Canadas borders the most obvious challenge they have to face is the
barrier that is set immediately due to language differences. Canadas official languages include both
English and French these languages arguably are the most difficult languages to learn. In many ways,
for immigrants the first step to both economic and societal immigration is learning English. Without
learning English and proper English literacy skills there is little chance of getting a well paying job,
making connections with people in Canadian society and overall, without English immigrants are
unable to communicate with others around them in society during everyday life. Language and
Literacy training also relate to immigrant s employability. In a study showing

10. Literature Review of Organizational Change, 2000 to 2008
Introduction
There has been a considerable body of literature dedicated to assisting organisational leaders in their
endeavours to implement change (Holt, Self, Thal Lo 2002). Many authors concur that the prime task
of leaders is to bring about change and that leadership and change management are indeed inextricably
linked (Burnes 2003, Stoker 2006, Maurer 2008). Robinson and Harvey (2008) maintain that the
acceleration of globalisation has resulted in a tumultuous state of change as organisations struggle to
adapt to new models of leadership. Consequently, few would dispute that with such increasing
globalisation, deregulation, rapid pace of technology and shifting social and demographic trends that

(2003) who argue that regardless of the specific phases of the change process or which type of change
model is used, the extent of success at the end of the process is affected by the leader s ability to
influence members of the organisation to adopt and implement change. Essentially these influence
strategies encourage affected employees to adopt and exhibit the appropriate behaviours that translate
into organisational gains (Holt et al. 2003). Landrum, Howell and Paris (2000) also point out the
importance of being able to apply leadership skills that will gain commitment from followers and
change attitudes, beliefs and if necessary the goals of followers. Accordingly, it can be seen that one of
the skills a leader and indeed a change leader must possess is the ability to influence employees. This
gives rise to establish what specific skills an individual change leader requires to exert this influence.
Graetz (2000) and Ellinger, Ellinger and Keller (2003) highlight that there has been a radical shift in
the role of senior managers from the traditional authoritarian, command and control style to a more
open, participative approach that emphasises a non positional, team based and empowering model.
With the focus on cooperation, communication and collaboration, Graetz (2000) maintains that
managers need to adopt a completely different range of leadership skills in addition to the traditional
technical dimensions of management. Stewart and

Riverdale is a television series that is based on the Archie comic books and can be considered an
example of transmedia storytelling according to Henry Jenkin s criteria in his article Transmedia
Storytelling 101. The series follows Archie Andrews, Betty Cooper, Veronica Lodge, and Jughead,
characters from the Archie comic books, as the town of Riverdale is dealing with the aftermath of
Jason Blossom s death. Riverdale puts a mysterious and dark twist on the Archie comic books.

The show permits people who have never read the Archie comic books to enjoy it, but it still has
elements from the comic books that people will enjoy too. Henry Jenkin s in his blogpost Transmedia
Storytelling 101 states, Transmedia storytelling practices may expand the potential market for a
property by creating different points of entry for different audience segments (Jenkins). As seen in the
case of Riverdale, the market surrounding the Archie comic books is expanding from the comic books
to a television series based on the comic books. Riverdale appeals to a teen and young adult
demographic and this allows for people who may not have grown up with the Archie comics to
become familiar with the characters. It also provides a darker series of events than what was portrayed
in the Archie comics which may appeal to a different audience than the comics. Additionally, viewers
of the television series who have never read the comic books may start reading them because of their
interest in the television show. Accordingly, people who are fans of the comic books may be drawn to
Riverdale because it is based on the comic books. Therefore, this creates several entry points for
people to become involved in Riverdale and the Archie comic

14. Lion King Failure
The failure of being a King How should a King behave? There are some elements that will definitely
cause the failure of a King. Both the novel, Macbeth, and the film, Lion King, show the rise and fall of
the kings. Fall into the road of no return, fail to maintain power and not legitimate are the major
factors that caused their fall in reign.
The first similarity is the crowns of both Macbeth and Scar are not legitimate. Before they betray the
King, they are acquaintances to the King. One is a highly trusted, valuable general and another is a
relative of the King. Coincidentally, they are close to and trusted by the King. However, the
relationships between Macbeth and Duncan, Scar and Mufasa do not allow them to succeed to the
crown because the King s son should be the next in line for the throne. The chance to be a King is
almost within reach, but neither Macbeth nor Scar could be a King legally. Lured by the lust of power,
Macbeth and Scar murdered their King and expel the prince like broken line kites without any

15. The Effects Of Contaminated Water On Human Life
Researchers have been studying the causes and effects of contaminated water on human life. Water is
to be considered a major and important resource on the planet, but it can also be a major health risk
towards human life especially on young children. Young children are more vulnerable to diseases
because their immune systems are experiencing everything for the first time. These health risks can
include diarrhea, dental fluorosis, or toxicant. Diarrhea can be life threatening due to fluid loss. In
1998, diarrhea was estimated to have killed 2.2 million people, most of whom were under 5 years of
age (WHO, 2000). It is more common when there is a shortage of clean water for drinking. Dental
fluorosis is a defect of the teeth marked by the increased porosity of the enamel. The longer one has
dental fluorosis the more their teeth begin to rotten and crumble. The water sources that can be
contaminated are ponds, lakes, seas, oceans, or reservoirs. All these sources are what we use for
drinking and bathing. But having clean water cannot be achieved everywhere. Africa, especially, has a
poor water quality. Africa does not have the resources for clean water like the United States does.
Humans need to be careful of where they get their source of drinking water because of the health risk
that contaminated water possesses on humans, but mostly young children. In four scholar reviewed
articles that I choose from the Martin Luther King Library database, all four articles examined and

People make choices everyday, each choice you make changes the world in a little or big way. A study

Jackie Robinson was born into a African American family, in 1919. Jackie grew up with prejudice all

When discussing loss knowing it comes in many forms can create an ubiquitous contemplation about
the derivative of the characters loss. In many Dark Romantic and Gothic pieces loss can derive from a
loved one, psychological torment, or even from an egotistical attribute. These attributes may seem
customary to society, however these issues can take a great toll on a character. For example, in
Annabel Lee by Edgar Allan Poe, he lost his wife to a lung disease which ultimately caused the
narrator to obsess in a form of grief over Annabel Lee. Moreover, in the Demon Lover by Elizabeth
Bowen the protagonist and the antagonist essentially are the same person. Mrs. Dover while revisiting

Alliance System and New Imperialism
Otto Von Bismarck formed of designed the European balance of power. The power was known as the
Big Five Britain, France, Germany, Austria Hungary, and Russia. Between 1870 and 1914 the
competition within the European states for territory dominance and control caused separation.
Bismarck departed from office in 1890 which caused the disintegration of the European balance of
power. In 1914 peace was no longer guaranteed when Europe divided into two camps. The formation

The prosperity of Russia s economics depended on the trade of grain.
The Alliances were formed because of these weaknesses and of the tensions between France and
Germany. Russia s fear of becoming landlocked contributed to the forming of the Alliance. Germany s
navy expanded during the early 1900s and by World War I the German navy was the second largest in
the world. Russia, France, and Britain formed the Triple Entente to set the fuse for war (The German
Empire, Article, 2010). Kaiser Wilhelm I s was replaced by a king who was ill. He served as a
temporary standby until Wilhelm II gained power and took over the throne. Wilhelm II feared
Bismarck s power so he was forced to step down and retire. Even though Bismarck retired as prime
minister his policies continued. A few major events occurred prior to World War I during Wilhelm II s
reign in the 19th century. Economic growth caused capital labor issues to arise in Germany during this
time. Wilhelm II s practices of foreign affairs policies were often contradictory. Even though Wilhelm
II had developed a friendship with Germany and Great Britain; his imperialistic policies forced an
alliance among Britain, Russia, and France. Wilhelm II supported Austria in the Balkans and
supported Russia in its affairs with East Asia. Wilhelm II also believed that the Triple Alliance would

24. Summary Of Upton Sinclair s The Jungle
Upon reading Upton Sinclair s book The Jungle, it can easily be seen that there were numerous
injustices occurring within the early 1900s Chicago government. He wrote the book in 1906 after
spending six months gathering research on the lives of poor, low class, immigrant families. With this
information, he published his first book, The Jungle, through which he displays the hardships a
immigrant family faces when they move to America. He chose the meat packing industry in the city of
Chicago as his backdrop for this story, and while the names of the characters are fictional, most of the
story is based on his real observations. He originally wrote the book trying to set forth the breaking of
human hearts by a system which exploits the labor of men and women for profit, but people took it the
wrong way, and Sinclair explained this misinterpretation when he says I aimed at the public s heart,
and by accident I hit it in the stomach. (NCBI) By this, he means that he wanted the American people
to see the plight of the immigrants but instead the general public was more upset by the unsanitary
condition of the meat they were ingesting. While Sinclair may not have achieved his original goal, his
book did in fact have a significant impact; an impact that still effects the American people of today. It
led to the creation of the Pure Food and Drugs Act of 1906 which is the predecessor to the modern day
FDA (Young 231) (US Food). The Jungle shows the corruption in the Chicago government through
the main character Jurgis and his trial, the raping of his wife Ona, and the unsanitary conditions in the
meat factories where he worked. Sinclair shows the corruption in the Chicago government through the
raping of Ona. Ona is the teenage wife of Jurgis, and just a few months after their wedding she is
raped by her own boss. When Jurgis demands a reason for why she was gone for an entire night, she
says He told me he would have me turned off. He told me he would we would all of us lose our
places. We could never get anything to do here again. He he meant it he would have ruined us
(Sinclair 109) Now this example would be good to describe the corruption both in the meat packing
factories, and in the government. While it

Systems Thinking for Organizational Improvement Systems thinking is the art and science of making
reliable inferences about behavior by developing an increasingly deep understanding of underlying
structure (THWink.org, 2014). It is a way of understanding the relationships that shape the behavior of
systems. It helps us see how changes can be more effective. Specifically, this paper will discuss the
following: Laws of the Fifth Discipline and the Value of Systems Thinking 2. Gap Analysis Using the
5 Whys 3. Gap Analysis With Causal Loop Modeling 4. Robust Causal Loop Modeling Laws of the
Fifth Discipline and the Value of Systems Thinking Three challenges to managing complex
organizations include: Slow decision making Conflicts Silo mentalities Effective systems thinking can
help improve complex organizations and meet the three above challenges. According to the Laws of
the Fifth Discipline, systems thinking can help speed up decision making by giving insight on
problems (Cathon, 2000). Specifically, personal mastery is honest reflection and evaluation that
identifies needs that contribute to the achievement of organizational goals. This can also help with
conflicts by being honest with ourselves and having a shared vision with the organization. Next,
conflicts can be resolved better because systems thinking allows a network of groups and individuals
to work as a family (Meadows, 2008). Finally, competitive organizations know how to learn and

If we are looking to fill the position of a Food and Beverage Manager it would be particularly smart to
recruit from the inside. We think it would be in the company s best interest to recruit from the inside
because in the restaurant industry is hard to get thrown into the environment and dynamic when you
are on the outside. When recruiting internally it is easiest to let employees know there is a job opening
by word of mouth. We think it is important to send a notice out to all employees to ensure they all
have a fair opportunity to apply for the position if they feel fit. This is a good idea to recruit internally
because it shows everyone inside the company that they can move forward and advance if they meet
the standards. It would be typical for an assistant manager to advance into the position of an active
manager. When we are recruiting internally it is important to keep employees feelings in check.
Jealousy could arise and it has to be clear that everyone has a chance to apply for the position, but not
everyone is as qualified as we need them to be. Some of the criteria we need for this position is
experience, problem solving skills, and knowledge of profit and loss statements. ServSafe
certifications with alcohol and food safety would be helpful. It is also important to be educated with
CPR. Among safety concerns it is important to have physical qualifications for the job. These
qualifications include being able to lift at least 50 pounds, and being able to be on feet for around 12
or more hours a day. This job can be very demanding at times. It might be unusual for some of these

31. The Study of Honor in the Renaissance Period
The study of honor in Renaissance cities presents an intriguing paradox. On the one hand, honor
seemed more dear than life itself , and provided one of the essential values that shaped the daily lives
of urban elites and ordinary city folk. For wealthy merchants and aspiring artisans, honor established a
code of accepted conduct against which an individual s actions were measured by his or her peers,
subordinates and social superiors. Possessing honor helped to locate a person in the social hierarchy
and endowed one with a sense of personal worth. The culture of honor, which originated with the
medieval aristocracy, directed the everyday activities of urban dwellers of virtually all social groups
from at least the fourteenth century on. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

33. Stress And Job Stress
Work plays an important part in the lives of many human beings and it affects their everyday well
being. Working is a huge challenge for a majority of the American people. The workplace is a big
contributing factor of job stress. Psychological ill health is related to the problem of job stress. There
are interventions that can be implemented to prevent or at least to reduce psychological problems.
Stress can be defined as an interaction between people and any kind of demand within their
environment. A stressor can be an event or an object which is harmful for an individual. Stress can
happen when the demand outweighs a human s ability to deal. Factors that may cause job stress
include long work hours, job insecurity, conflict among workers and supervisors, shift work, or
hazards. Job stress can cause low productivity, low employee morale, high turnover, increased call ins,
sickness and negative results. Aspects that need to be considered when diagnosing job stress include
age, sex, race, income, education, marital status and personality.
It is vital to determine who is affected by job stress. It seems as though most people are affected by
job stress at one time or another. Job stress is on the rise. People all over the world are beginning to
suffer from job stress. Job stress doesn t occur in just one profession but it tends to occur more in
streamlined countries. Job stress can affect an employee s personal life. Job stress can cause anxiety,
depression, ulcers, chronic disease, and heart disease. In most job stress related cases, individuals are
distressed by trying to combine occupational and family demands, such as caring for their children or
sick and aging parents (Wiersma Berg, 1991, p.1210). According to Lazarus (1991), employees who
are not able to control their lives at their working place are more likely to suffer occupational stress
and thus, can experience impaired health (p.4). Numerous studies have shown that low control, heavy
job demands may cause mental strain, job dissatisfaction, cardiovascular disease, etc. (Locke Taylor,
1990, p. 160). Family responsibilities also became a source of stress. It usually occurs in single parent
families or in those which both parents work. This

35. New Zealand s Legal Architecture And Constitutional...
Democracy is government of the people, by the people, for the people. Many theorists believe that
New Zealand has a weak constitutional framework and therefore a weak democratic structure.
However there are many other theorists who state that unwritten constitutions bring flexibility, and can
evolve with modern society. The accuracy of this statement can be evaluated in relation to New
Zealand s legal architecture and constitutional arrangements.
New Zealand doesn t have a single codified constitutional document, and it is therefore said to be
unwritten. Our flexible constitution can be altered by Parliament, because Parliament is supreme. New
Zealand has a Mixed Member Proportional (MMP) system of government, meaning we have a
majority of minority parties, and this has effected parliamentary sovereignty. Practically, MMP has
caused a change to the system of government, and it may not be as easy in reality to alter the
constitution, this is because consensus would be harder to achieve. Constitutionalism and the rule of
law, implies political responsibility to the people through the legislature, elected by the people. This
shows that although in theory New Zealand s democratic structure may look skeletal and fragile, in
practice there are many checks in place that can be said to prevent such weaknesses, these are
provided below.
Our constitutional documents are sourced in many pieces of legislation. The New Zealand

38. Prelude and The Wasteland by T.S. Elliot
In our daily lives, we are too busy to do the things that we always want to do. So, we live lives of
boring repetition. However, we have become adjusted to it so almost none of us complain. T.S. Eliot
was born in St. Louis, Missouri and eventually moved to London, England. Extremely well educated,
Eliot wrote many highly praised poems. For example, The Waste Land was assembled out of dramatic
vignettes based on Eliot s London life. Another poem, Preludes, talks about the daily lives of people
where it starts off simple, but leads into something deeper than everyday life. Three reasons why I
relate to Preludes by T.S. Eliot are evenings, mornings, and spiritually. In Preludes by T.S Eliot, a city
is being described by all the things that happen in the evening. The smell of steaks is everywhere.
When this poem was composed, steaks were inexpensive and were commonly eaten by members of
the lower class. I can relate to this part of the poem because my family cooks steaks and my town
calms down in the way that the city being described does. The poem then goes on to describe how a
gusty shower wraps the grimy scraps of withered leaves about your feet and newspapers from vacant
lots. The streets are gross and unattractive and the street lights flicker on and off. Parts of Worland
have grimy looking streets and houses like this city does. A lonely cab horse chugs along the darkened
streets. I believe that part of the poem is telling us that life is empty at night and everything

45. Morteza s Zone Of Proximal Development
Morteza is a student from an English as an Additional Language or Dialect (EAL/D) family. He has
previously attended 2 years on EAL/D classes where he has learnt enough spoken English to
communicate with other students and teachers within the class and schoolgrounds but is not confident
that he is fluent enough, Morteza still has some problems with reading and writing English. On his
first day at a new middle school, Morteza displays shyness and is a little embarrassed. His teacher has
noticed that he is rather quiet and prefers to listen and observe rather than participate within the class
lessons but is motivated to learn and wants to be accepted into his new school. Morteza s teacher also
avoids asking him direct questions and is usually ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
149) students like Morteza become reliant on the teacher for the correct answers instead of trying for
themselves. The teacher needs to encourage these students to come to an answer, even if it is incorrect.
There is also the issue of understanding or becomes unclear about the tasks. The teacher must
demonstrate clear instructions, use gestures that an EAL/D student may understand or make use of
physical models so it is visually understood. (Davis, 2016) Earnest, Joyce, Mori and Silvagni (2010)
(as cited in Derderian Aghajanian and Cong Cong, 2018) say that race, religion and cultural
discrimination towards immigrant students [like Morteza] are negatively stereotyped. In order to better
understand these differences, the teachers are suggested to learn about the student s culture and
history. Students who are born in this country but speak a different language at home are referred to a
bilingual. Students who are exposed from a young age to the dual languages have a rich variety of
contexts, some even mix the vocabularies and grammar of the two languages when speaking, this may
occur at home as modelled by their

The Human rights campaign is an interest group which in fact deals with human rights. This group has
expanded over the years and has a huge influence on the world today. The human rights campaign has
had a lot of success in and out of the white house. Some issues that the HRC deals with are gay rights,
transgender equality and hate crimes. The HRC are very dynamic and cater to a lot of needs. The HRC
is a human rights right group which deals with many different and controversial issues. The people
who join this group aren t just gay and lesbian Americans. The HRC isn t just exclusive to gays and

It took voices of Honor national tour which was 50 cities in partnership with service members united,
culminating in DC with Veterans lobby day where hundreds of veterans lobbied congress. It took
625,000 emails generated from constituents urging repeal. For equal marriage to be passed in New
York it took a lot of work. The HRC led the largest field campaign ever in support of state LGBT
rights legislation. An unprecedented 30 full time field organizers were employed by HRC across the
state and they generated over 150,000 constituent contacts to targeted legislators. The political action
committee for the HRC is among the National Journals top rated PAC s. The following components
make up the criteria for determination of whether the Human Rights Campaign will endorse a
candidate: support for issues of concern to the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community; (2)
demonstrated leadership on HRC s issues and (3) viability. In 2008 the HRC engaged in the largest
electoral campaign in history by endorsing an aggressive 7 million to mobilize and motivate millions
of LGBT voters. Then in 2012 the HRC supported Barack Obama once again but contributed 20
million dollars to the effort. The HRC had a strong presence in the first ever congressional hearing that
focused exclusively on transgender American and workplace discrimination. The hearing was an effort
to educate federal lawmakers on transgender issues and lay the groundwork for

47. Beez R Us Essay
Growth Strategy
Beez r Us as one of the successful organic honey producer in Australia, it is planning to grow its brand
by increasing the market demand. Firstly, instead of selling raw products to other honey brand, Beez r
Us can sell its branded honey directly to supermarket and food stores within Australia, therefore, they
bring more customers into the market. Secondly, Beez r Us can expend its brand to overseas, in order
to bring customers from new markets. Especially export to China, which may have a great market
opportunity since it has a great population of potential customers.
To do this, Beez r Us need to face the great competition from other honey producers. It is significant
for Beez r Us to develop its distinctive assets to compete with other companies. As an organic honey
producer, Beez r Us has obtained an organic certification for its products. Because of its unique and
natural floral on Kangaroo Island, Beez r Us can produce higher quality honey than other companies,
which can be its core competence. This is a unique asset for Beez r Us, which is hard for those large
honey manufacturers ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Firstly, in order to meet different customer needs, the company needs to manage its product mix and
lines. Beez r Us can develop a variation of products, for example, they can produce different size of
bottled honey in order to meet social cultural differentiation. Some large family size may need to buy
a bigger size of honey, and people who live alone may need to buy a smaller size. Moreover, Beez r
Us can also develop a category extension. Some of the category extension has already developed by
Beez r Us such as soft toys of bees, honey flavoured ice cream and honey hand cream. The company
can increase the quantity of production of these products based on their past selling experience. This
strategy may increase the brand awareness of Beez r Us by different category users (Batra, Lenk

48. Private Equity Investment
Private Equity (PE) investment is an asset class that is bought and sold in a privately negotiated
transaction and is not publicly traded on a stock exchange. This investment is normally completed by
private equity firm, venture capital firm, or an informal investor named business angel. They raise
funds and invest it on behalf of their investors. There are four most well known investment strategies,
i.e. venture capital (VC), leveraged buy out (LBO), mezzanine debt and distressed debt investments. It
is distinguishable that VC usually targets the start up firms while LBO purchases majority control in a
developed and mature firm. The total global PE assets under management (AUM) in 2013 has climbed
up to $3,466 billion, the highest value to date and has remained a steadily growth throughout the past
6 years after financial crisis (Appendix figure 1). This is partially attributed to a sharp decline of exit
activity resulted from crisis, led to more capital calls, improved fundraising and thus expansion of
AUM.
Between 1990 and 2008, capital committed in PE were growing at 20% compounding rate annually,
with some acquired firms have become popular due to the popularity of PE, such as Domino s Pizza
and Toys R . However, following the financial crisis in 2008, the private equity industry has been
confronting momentous challenges yet continuous to recover with signs of performance rebounding. It
has been proved to outperform the public market over the long term. While it is

49. Transcendentalism In Young Goodman Brown
In Young Goodman Brown , Hawthorne demonstrates common inter turmoil, especially in regard to
spiritual state. In an attempt to discover himself and satisfy his innermost being, Young Goodman
Brown becomes a shattered, shell of a man. The question at hand is not religion, nor is it purely
spiritual, Hawthorne simply encourages his reader to search themselves with the understanding and
realization that once searched, the readers may not like what they find. Hawthorne himself seems to
struggle with this reality as he straddled his Puritan upbringing and transcendentalist revelations, as
expressed through Young Goodman Brown s realization of the hypocrisy of the Puritan with whom he
resides. Hawthorne shows the potential horror of man to his readers as hidden evil inside of man. As
Hawthorne develops his story, the reader is challenged by the nature of man, and what the reader
wants the nature of man to be, which Hawthorne understands to be sinful. The traveling companion,
the third character introduced to the reader, is a symbol of the inner demon residing within Young
Goodman Brown. The companion was waiting for Young Goodman Brown, and apparently in the
same rank of life as Goodman Brown, and bearing a considerable resemblance to him, though perhaps
more in expression than features (2). The readers see that the traveling companion is a reflection of
Goodman Brown because he looks like Goodman Brown, but the air of the former reflects a
tantalizing knowledge to

50. Muscular Dystrophy Case Study
Duchenne s Muscular Dystrophy (DMD) is caused by recessive mutations in the dystrophin gene on
the X chromosome affecting 1 in every 3,500 5,000 male births. As shown in Fig. 1, dystrophin
protein anchors the actin cytoskeleton to the extracellular matrix, playing critical roles in stabilizing
and protecting the muscle fibers against strain related injuries. As outlined in Fig. 2, dystrophin
mutations lead to myocyte fragility and membrane damages with repeated contractions, resulting in
increased cell permeability. Consequently, calcium ions diffuse into the myocytes, activating calcium
dependent proteases to cause further cell necrosis. , Additionally, creatine kinase (CK), a myocyte
enzyme that stores energy for contraction, leaks out ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Treatments are aimed to control symptoms, preserve muscle functions and improve quality of life.
Prednisone is a type of commonly prescribed corticosteroid known for its anti inflammatory and
immunosuppressive properties through direct gene expression regulations. The precise mechanism by
which prednisone increases muscle strength in DMD patients is unknown, but hypothesises have been
made based on its modulatory effects in the myocyte inflammation, degeneration and regeneration
pathways following damage. As illustrated in Fig. 3, under healthy physiology condition, myocyte
damage stimulates signaling pathways that promotes both degeneration and regeneration of the
damaged tissue to promote healing. The extend of muscle healing is dependent on the balance between
the two processes. As outlined in Fig. 4, initial myocyte damage activates inflammatory cells such as
neutrophils and macrophages to inflict further necrosis through the release of free radicals and
proteases. The damaged myocytes are then removed via phagocytosis to provide space for healthy
tissue regeneration. The regeneration process is initiated through the activation of myocyte precursor
cells called satellite cells to differentiate and fuse at the site of damage. However the proliferating
abilities of satellite cells are reduced in DMD patients due to the absence of dystrophin proteins,
resulting in impaired muscle regeneration capacities. As a result, inflammation
