Bioengineer s Role In Oryx And Crake
Bioengineer and its role in Oryx and Crake Oryx and Crake is one of my favorite readings in the
semester. I like the flow and arrangement of the plots. The novel is an enthralling post apocalyptic
story with a detailed description of the science and technology it based on. The most important science
and technology involved in the novel is genetic or Bioengineering. The novel was written in late 20th
century and early 21st century, a time when many breakthroughs and controversial Bioengineering
incidents took place. Atwood is known as an avid environmentalist of the time. She was concerned
about the ethical controversial and the downplay of the humanities at the time and choose to use her
work to examine the trend in development and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the novel, the two main characters grew up in a cosmetic focused Bioengineering company s
compound. The creation of a compound integrating different functions and providing different
services for a company is not such a novel idea today. Many internet tycoons like Google and
Microsoft have their own campuses which provide similar services and amenities to their employees
as the compounds described in the book. However, to emphasize the effect Bioengineering would
have on a society, Atwood took a step forward by making the compounds more secluded and
exaggerated the power and functionalities of them. The seclusion created by the Bioengineering
companies directly led to the divided social classes. People who were associated with companies
resided in the privileged compound and people who were not related to the company lived in the
dangerous Pleebland. It was a privileged but also an underprivileged to be in the compound in a way.
Unlike the charitable attributes of technology companies campuses today, the compounds in the book
were created to withhold the scientists and protect the Bioengineering secrets of the companies.
Jimmy s mother viewed it as a prison and Jimmy in the later chapters would try to use the word
freedom to persuade his mistress to elope with him to Pleebland. The corporate power enabled by
exclusive Bioengineering technology can be seen throughout the book. Bioengineering companies had
control over every aspect of the daily life for people live both inside and outside of the compounds.
Atwood warned the risks of having monopoly Bioengineering companies by making all the companies
in the book monopolies. This kind of monopoly enabled technological power to develop into political
power and eliminated the existence of any modern government structures. The overpowering of the
Bioengineering companies also leads to the complete lack of

THE PROBLEM AND IT S BACKGROUND
INTRODUCTION
Mushroom is the popular name for any of the larger fleshy fungi, mostly of the class Basidiomycetes.
A mushroom is not a complete fungus plant instead; it is for spore producing fruiting body that
develops from an extensive mass of fine threads present in the ground or the substrate on which the
fungus grows. Most ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Application Of A Raspberry Pi
Everyday all over the world thousands of dollars are wasted by people forgetting or not knowing that
they have left their lights on. As a person who enjoys fixing problems I set out to design a product to
fix this problem. Before I explain the things, I have researched I should probably explain my product
itself. My product consists of a Raspberry Pi, light sensor, another circuit, and multiple components
for visual purposes and for voltage reading. As most of the parts for this have already been made and
are compatible with the Raspberry Pi, most of my product consist of costume made coding.
The first thing I researched was the Raspberry Pi as it is the main component of this product. A
Raspberry Pi is basically a single board computer with all the same components as a normal computer,
but just much smaller. The main coding language that is used on a Raspberry Pi is Python (that is what
language we decided to go with). Finding out that a Raspberry Pi is just a tiny computer I decided the
next step would be to research the parts of a computer to fully understand how the Raspberry Pi would
be handling the data sent to it by the modules. The first main part of a computer is the CPU (Central
Processing Unit). The Central Processing Unit takes the data, numbers, and information given to the
computer and processes it in to data that the other parts of the computer can use. The easiest way to
describe it is as the brains of the computer as it basically does the same thing as our

Bashar Al-Assad Genocide
Bashar al Assad Genocide (2000 present)
INTRODUCTION
Bashar al Assad is the 19th president of Syria, he has committed genocide on the people of his
country. The protests continued after the first strike made by Bashar al Assad. Leading to more strikes,
and ultimately resulting in an ongoing genocide. There haven t been any stereotypes involved in this
genocide, though there is a common target of protesters, there hasn t been any characteristics or
ethnicities that have been targeted.
The victims aren t even captured in this genocide which is obviously different than the Holocaust. In
this genocide, they are attacked in their homes. Healthcare for the victims has been taken away by the
government as well. This event is similar to the Holocaust ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
So what does this mean? This means that the UN has recognized what Syria has been doing to its
citizens, but as of yet, they have been unable to reach consensus on what their punishment should be.
But as they take more and more time to find a suitable punishment, the genocide continues.
Nothing has really become of the perpetrators because this genocide is ongoing. There hasn t been any
form of punishment yet and they still haven t been stopped. Governments around the globe have been
working to try to stop the Syrian government but have been unsuccessful so far. The UN is getting
closer to reaching a decision on what will happen to the Syrian government and the offenders. Until
they do, the ruthless attacks and killings will continue.

Summary Of Smoking Cessation For Management Of COPD
Summary and Evaluation on Smoking Cessation for Management of COPD The article Evaluating the
effectiveness of smoking cessation in the management of COPD written by Isimat Temitayo Orisasmi

disease associated with it. Smoking is one of the major causes of increased mortality. More than 80%
of smokers develop Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), making it one of the leading
causes of death in the world (Orisasami and Ojo, 2016, p. 786). The main aim of the article is to draw

explaining to them about the process in which their body works when they smoke, and how they get
COPD, thereby motivating the smokers with COPD to manage their condition effectively which could
result in a significant difference in their life quality. I think this article is effective because the authors
mentioned few studies that contradicted their opinion and they even mentioned the reasons why
people continue to smoke after the patients being supported through counseling. However, I would
also like to see more data on how many people continued smoking even after receiving aids, what the
negative effects of bupropion and other pharmacotherapies drugs are, and more research references on
severe cases of COPD in which the intervention aides failed and how the COPD was still controlled. I
think the authors need to clarify more on the specific types of intervention the studies used and the
ones that were most effective to

Summary Of Greasy Lake Essay
Christine Berndt Ms. Granger English Comp 1A 29 November 2016 A Greasy Turnaround In T.
Coraghessan Boyle s short story Greasy Lake , the reader is brought into an intense situation that
occurs on one of the first nights during the young adult boy s summer vacation. The narrator, whose
name is never revealed, is out on an adventurous night with his friends Digby and Jeff. While out, they
find themselves discovering whether or not the idea of who they thought they wanted to be and,
associate themselves with, was actually what they desired. This conveys the idea that fantasy and
reality do not always correlate due to inevitable consequences. Michael Adams a British journalist for
BBC described Boyle s upbringing as having a rebellious youth who played drums, sang in a rock and
roll band, and drove fast cars . Along with this Adams states that Boyle Did not get along with his
father, a school bus driver whose alcoholism killed him at age fifty four in 1972. Boyle s mother, a
secretary, was also an alcoholic and died of liver failure . Greasers most often come from rough family
backgrounds and find themselves indulging in fast cars, and enjoy mischievous activities such as
drugs and alcohol. With the rough and untraditional childhood that T. C Boyle endured perhaps it
inspired him to develop Greasy Lake . The stories central conflict arises when the characters head out
to Greasy Lake after they did not find suitable entertainment elsewhere. When they

Bullet In The Brain Analysis
The evaluation of the short novel, Bullet in the Brain by Tobias Wolff was quite an interesting subject
matter when it comes to the understanding of one s true experience with the phrase My life flashed
before my eyes . In this novel, Wolff tells a story about a man named Anders who experiences
forgotten memories in his life and realizes what he once was and what he turned out to be in the end.
Wolff s interpretation of memory in this novel made a unique remark and left a deep understanding on
how someone could easily change in life without them even noticing. Throughout the course of this
story, Wolff takes you to Anders short remainder of time in life and what psychological adventure he
experiences in this short amount of time. This novel by Tobias Wolff shows a great deal of elements
that one novel should need at all times. Bullet in the Brain takes place in a bank where the main
character of the story, Anders, goes to right before they closes because he was apparently pretty
preoccupied in his life. He comes in and since it was right before it was closing time, a great deal of
people are in line to do their own business at the same time as him. Anders has an unfortunate luck as
he goes in line right behind two annoying and loud women who was having a, according to Wolff,
stupid conversation. As time progresses, the bank meets an unfortunate event by having two robbers
come in with weapons to neutralize anyone who needs to be. Anders with his uncontrollable short

Piano Critique
The piece opens very quickly, with a quickening of the cello but it is suddenly interrupted with the
piano in a deep key. The opening part of the piece has a significant amount of dissonance, bringing a
sense of anxiety and desire for the piece to end. As it rises, the listener is both anxious for an ending
and a resolution. The piano is this ending. The piece then picks up in a minor key, entering a more
mystical and quiet place. The piano takes precedence with the cello sitting in the background yet when
the listener thinks the pieces will be piano heavy, the cello takes over the piano withdraws to the
background. The deep vibratos of the cello are contrasted with the light single key of the piano. This
leads the listener to associate the cello with a lament and the piano for hope. The piano always closes
the movement with a deep, somber key, suggesting that though hope is out there, there is still an air of
sadness, of melancholy. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When the cello stops, the listener is thrown into a state of tranquility. There is less stimuli and the
sense of anticipation is halted. The return of the cello marks the lament but this time it is in
consonance with the piano, creating a unified piece. The piece, I believe remains in minor the entire
time, which adds to the feeling of despair. Another feature which adds to this despair (dissonance and
minor key) is the presence of commas. Not only does the listen hope for something, that is the
resolution, it never truly

Faith in Young Goodman Brown In Nathaniel Hawthorne s Young Goodman Brown, Hawthorne
introduces Goodman Brown, who doubts himself and reiterates his false confidence to himself
repeatedly. His struggle between the evil temptations, the devil, and the proper church abiding life, is a
struggle he does not think he can handle. This story is about a man who challenges his faith in himself
and in the community in which he resides. Goodman Brown must venture on a journey into the local
forest, refuse the temptations of the devil, and return to the village before the sunrise. The story is set
in the forest of Salem, Massachusetts, around the time of the witch trials. Goodman Brown is a

This man also has a staff in the shape of black snake, the symbol of darkness and evil. Goodman
follows the devil deep into the forest, not knowing what he would encounter, but he is very confident
that he can handle it. The temptation of the devil has begun when Goodman falls behind and the devil
offers his staff for him to use. Goodman simply rejects his offer and passes the first temptation.
Goodman prides himself by telling the devil that he and his family have been a race of honest men and
good Christian, but the devil exploits something that shocks Goodman. The devil tells Goodman that
his family and whole community went through the forest with the devil as they tortured women in
Salem or burned the villages of Indians to the ground, and afterwards the devil and his ancestors
would go for a pleasant walk. Goodman s journey continues undisturbed until he meets his old
catechism teacher, Goody Cloyse, who has changed dramatically. Goody Cloyse already has
acquitance with the devil, and she asks the devil for help so she can get to the meeting. The devil
drops the staff before her which made Goodman Brown astonished. Although this view deters
confidence, he continues down the trail looking for hope in the heavens passing another test to fail

Romeo And Juliet Comparative Analysis
Romeo and Juliet has been a popular story for over 400 years, which was written by William
Shakespeare. Two directors created their own interpretations of the play. Franco Zefferelli directed a
version of the play which had many similarities and differences to Baz Luhrmann. Furthermore, both
films have many similar and different interpretations of Mercutio from the original play. However,
Harold Perrineau did a more realistic portrayal of Mercutio s death, while McEnery demonstrated a
more comedic portrayal of Mercutio. In general, McEnery demonstrates being more comedic than
Harold Perrineau. For example, when McEnery decides to pull up the nurse s dress and decides to
make fun of her by singing that she is a prostitute. McEnery says to the Nurse, A bawd, a bawd, a
bawd! So ho... No hare, sir; ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Leading up to Mercutio s death in front of Romeo in both films, when Tybalt and Mercutio are
fighting, Zefferelli has them playing around. This scene makes it look like as if Tybalt and Mercutio
are just fighting to fight. After Mercutio is stabbed, Benvolio asks Mercutio if he is hurt and Mercutio
responds with, Ay, ay, a scratch. Marry, tis enough (Shakespeare 3.1.97 100). During these lines of
dialogue, McEnery portrays Mercutio as a jokester because he crawls up the church steps and falls
again, while everyone is laughing at him. Although, in the original play we know Mercutio jokes
around and is never to be taken seriously, Mercutio s death in the modern film is more believable.
Harold Perrineau portrays a more serious death of Mercutio. He acts more believable as someone
actually dying. Mercutio s final moment happens when he gets a deep cut from a piece of glass during
the fight between Tybalt. Mercutio is yelling at Romeo while he is dying. No one thinks that Mercutio
is playing around. This is how Perrineau did an excellent job at portraying Mercutio s

The Use Of Personification In Daffodils By William Wordsworth
The poem Daffodils by William Wordsworth was written in 1804. It is about a time when Wordsworth
himself went walking and found a group of daffodils. Through the use of similes, personification and
alliteration, Wordsworth shows how his emotions changed after seeing the beautiful daffodils.
Wordsworth starts of the poem in a sad and depressed mood. He is not happy as he is walking alone
without any purpose. Nothing around him seems beautiful to him, and he seems lonely and sad. To
show this mood, Wordsworth uses a simile. We see this in the first line when he writes, I wandered
lonely as a cloud . Wordsworth is comparing himself to a cloud, something that floats in the air. By

Wordsworth is happy as he has seen the daffodils and he is amazed by their beauty. Suddenly he is no
longer alone as he feels happy with the presence of these golden flowers. To show his emotion change,
Wordsworth uses personification. This is shown in the third line where he writes, When all at once I
saws a crowd, a host of golden daffodils. Wordsworth is personifying the daffodils by saying that they
are standing in a crowd like an army. This is a description appropriate for humans, but flowers to not
stand in crowds. By using personification, Wordsworth shows that there a lot of daffodils that are
standing together like an army full of soldiers. This also shows that they are standing very noticeable
and catch the attention of Wordsworth. Personification is used further in the poem to show how
Wordsworth is now using happy words to describe the daffodils. In the 6th line he writes, Fluttering
and dancing in the breeze . This is not only an use of personification, but also of assonance and
internal rhyme. These literary devices emphasize that the flowers like humans, dancing and fluttering
showing their beauty and elegance. These are also very happy words showing that Wordsworth s
opinion has completely

Earthquakes In Southern California
There is no shortage of earthquakes in Southern California. On any given day this area sees numerous
earthquakes, though most are barely even felt. The concern here is what will happen when another
earthquake occurs in a large dense area such as Los Angeles County, California. One question
concerns earthquake preparedness of residents in this region. Do residents know what to do in order to
prepare for an earthquake? Are residents prepared for a medium to large sized earthquake? Another
question is, how prepared are buildings when it comes to the shaking from a medium to large
earthquake? Will these buildings protect residents and employees, or do they pose a severe threat

Covert Operations During World War II
The United States has had a long and complicated journey with intelligence. Throughout its early
history, the United States had a sporadic relationship with the intelligence community, only utilizing
intelligence during wartime. After World War II, it became clear that the United States needed to
enhance its intelligence gathering systems in order to prevent another disaster of this magnitude.
Reacting to this pressure, policymakers soon drafted and passed the National Intelligence Act of 1947,
creating the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), the United States first peacetime intelligence agency.
Though not always entirely authorized to do so, the CIA has carried out many covert operations with
varying levels of success. Despite the fact that some of these operations have been a success, covert
operations have largely been a detriment to the United States; covert operations hurt the United States
public image, rarely fix the original problem entirely, and were not meant, by those who drafter the
National Intelligence Act of 1947, to be carried out by the CIA. Founded under the National
Intelligence Act, the CIA is authorized to act as follows: coordinating the nation s intelligence
activities and correlating, evaluating and disseminating intelligence affecting national security
(History). The National Security Act remained vague enough on the legality of CIA actions that the
CIA was able to use one sentence from the National Security Act to justify covert operations.

The Seperation of Powers and the American Constitution When the founding fathers wrote the
Constitution they came up with a revolutionary idea which is known as the seperation of powers. This
incorperated a system which protected the principles on which the constitution was based, such as
avoiding tyranny and forming a more perfect union. The way the seperation of powers work is known
as vertical and horizontal. The vertical seperation of powers has three different branches, the Federal
government, the state governments and the much smaller local governments. The local governments
consist of a mayor, councils and county courts, these would ytake care of things such as legislation on

There are powers though that can not be taken away from any of these three branches meaning all
have been limited. To prevent the federal, state or maybe even local governments taking control of the
country, the power sharing is broken down further. All three of the above braches have another three
branches, these are the executive, legislature and the judiciary. All three use a system known as
Checks and Balances, this allows one of the the branches to be watched over and checked on by the
other two branches . This works well as the Supreme Courtprotects the constitution by ruling on
whether or not a bill is constitutional or unconstitutional. There are downsides to the Checks and
Balances as was seen in 1995 during the Appropreations Crisis when government shut down for two
weeks as Congress and the, then, President Clinton could not agree over the Appropreations Bill.
There is also the Line Item Veto which came from the Appropreation s Crisis, this allowed the
Presidentto veto sentences or paragraphsthat he did not like, this was ruled unconstitutional by the
Supreme Court even though it made for more effective government. A further seperation of power is

Descriptive Essay About Sparring In Taekwondo
He Was Breathtaking Waking up early on a Saturday to excessively exercise and then getting beaten
up afterward is not everyone s cup of tea. It sure wasn t mine and to this very day, I still have mixed
feelings about sparring in Taekwondo. Sparring is a sport for students to better prepare themselves in
self defense, but also for competition. Light contact was recommended, but at times the pressure gets
the better of the fighter. Accidents frequently occur. I was just starting out in this lung stopping sport,
so neither my mind and body were ready to have the life sucked out of us. I didn t mind sparring, but
when I saw who I was paired with, I might of as well just left the suffocating arena. It was a hot

moment. The whole world stopped dead in its tracks. I was in shock. Tears formed in my eyes. Three
seconds later, I was crying. It felt like my eyes had an endless supply of water. After Master Ko had
called everyone to stop, he turned to Alex and asked what happened. Alex said he honestly did not
know and that I just stopped fighting. Master Ko turned to me and asked the same thing. I took
asthmatic breaths of air as I answered his torturing question. I felt embarrassed for crying and for
stopping in the middle of a fight. My face was beet red. I hated all the eyes that were drilling holes
into me. I could not take much more, so I sat out for the rest of the time.
As my eyes burned from the sweat and tears mixing together, I yelled at myself, I m so pathetic! How
could I just sit here and rest, while everyone is working their butts off!? Dalena, what happened?
Master Ko s voice was warm and soothing. He placed his hand on my shoulder, squeezing so tight, I
could feel my veins suffocating. I was kicked in the throat, sir... I m really sorry! I bowed, trying to
avoid his eyes, afraid of his eyes splicing into my already broken soul. I understand it

Alexander The Great Quotes
Alexander the Great
I once heard this quote by Alexander the Great it quote An army of sheep, led by a lion, is better than
an army of lions, led by a sheep. ~ Alexander the Great. Alexander is from Pella, Macedonia in 356
B.C. Alexander s parents were Queen Olympias and King Phillip the II. Although some legends said
that Alexander s father was Zeus. When Alexander turned twelve he tamed a wild horse called
Bucephalus which is a huge horse with a furious attitude. The horse became his and battled with him
against other places for most of his life.
When Alexander was only thirteen his father called the great sophist Aristotle to teach his son.
Alexander learned that his favorites that Aristotle taught him was literature, science, medicine, and
philosophy. Alexander was sixteen his father went to go battle the Byzantiums and left Alexander in
charge of Macedonia. One day Alexander saw the chance to prove he is military worth and led a

Tom Brown And Arthur s Relationship
Tom Brown grows in both maturity and manliness during his stay at Rugby. He develops good
sportsmanship, learns how to be a loyal friend, becomes a better student, and increases his devotion to
God and religion. As he gains these qualities, he takes a step closer to becoming the quintessential,
Christian man. When Tom first arrived at the school, he had these virtues buried somewhere inside of
him. It took help from Dr. Arnold, Arthur, the other boys, and experiences at the school, however, to
bring them out of him. Little by little, through different experiences and relationships, Tom reveals

In Tom Brown s Schooldays, the author, Thomas Hughes laments on modern, technological advances.
He claims they are tearing apart England s culture. With the invention of the railroad and new ways of
traveling, more and more men are leaving their country in search of new adventures. They leave
behind England s traditions and cease to celebrate them. One of these traditions is the veast, which is a
feast where many traditional games are played. This tradition would bring together all Englishmen in
the villages, no matter their social status or age. However, since the new generation is more interested
in the railroad and faster travel, the veast is not as celebrated. The young people do not experience a
sense of unity and patriotism because they are too busy traveling to come home. As for the education
at Rugby, this too is very traditional. Instead of chasing after the newest trends of the era, the boys at
Rugby are instilled with the morals of old England; to be virtuous, moral, masculine, Christian men.
The veast and Rugby are what keep the traditions of old England alive, despite the attempts of new
advancements to get rid of

The Cultural Capital Of India
ABOUT PHOTOGRAPHY
Photography is the symbolization, science and practice of making tough pictures by recording light or
other electromagnetic radiation, either artificially by method for a light sensitive material, for
example, photographic film, or electronically by method for a picture sensor. Ordinarily, a lens is
utilized to center the light reflected or emitted from items into a true picture on the light touchy
surface inside a Polaroid amid a timed introduction. The result in an electronic picture sensor is an
electrical charge at every pixel, which is electronically handled and put away in an advanced picture
document for ensuing show or handling.
The result in a photographic emulsion is an imperceptible inert picture, which is later artificially
created into an unmistakable picture, either negative or positive relying upon the reason for the
photographic material and the system for transforming. A negative picture on film is customarily used
to photographically make a positive picture on a paper base, known as a print, either by utilizing an
enlarger or by contact printing.

A way we try to minimise this impact is by buying whole cases so the suppliers can use the original
packaging and not having to repackage split cases. A major environmental impact that is occurs when
bringing in resources is through the transportation of them. In order to minimise the impact this has on
the environment we try to source our suppliers locally and minimise the amount of deliveries we have
a week.
In order to obtain resources we must ensure that we go to an appropriate supplier which has been
approved by the company. The approved suppliers have all been check and their support staff have to
go though an induction type process so they understand our fire regulations and procedures. If a
resource is required from a company that is not on our registered supplier list then they must be added

How Do MLS Players Get Big
Soccer is one of the biggest sports in the World, even though the US is just starting to play, it has been
very popular. This essay is going to talk about MLS soccer and how it got so big. It will answer
questions like the history of MLS, where MLS players come from, and MLS specific stadiums. The
history of MLS is very interesting for lots of reasons. The history of MLS began in 1988, when the
USSF (United States Soccer Federation) pledged to create a professional soccer league. For the 1994
FIFA WOrld Cup. It was officially formed in 1995. When the league first started to play in 1996 they
started with 10 teams. Instead of operating as an association of independently owned teams, MLS
teams are owned and controlled by the league s investors. The investor/operators control their teams as
owners control teams in other leagues, and are commonly (but inaccurately) referred to as the team s
owners. The league has a fixed membership, like most sports leagues in the United States and Canada,
which makes it one of the world s few soccer leagues that does not use promotion and relegation. Two
years later it grew to 12 teams. In the beginning MLS ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

California are the country s two most vibrant soccer regions. Of players born in the United States, a
significant concentration of them come from those two areas. But compared to the NFL, NBA, NHL,
and MLB barely anyone comes from Southern California and Texas. The most countries (besides the
United States) that produce the most MLS players are Canada (28), Argentina (24), England (22), and
Ghana. More than 60 countries have produced MLS players. Clearly, in the MLS there are a lot of

Faulkner s Barn Burning
The Analysis of William Faulkner s Barn Burning Theme
Barn Burning by William Faulkner talks about the relationship and loyalty of a son, Colonel Sartoris
Snopes or Sarty to his father, Abner Snopes. The story is told from the ten year old Sarty s perspective.
All of his life, Sarty has always been taught to value family ties. However, at ten, he understood that
his father has committed actions that are wrong, and these actions often hurt their family ties.
Although not even a teenager yet, Sarty had to face the fact that he needed to defend his wrong father,
a problem that no young boy should encounter. Because of the two contradictory things, the boy had
to experience inner conflicts. He described it as being pulled two ways like between ... Show more

This can be seen in the incident after the trial when Abner stroke his son in order to ensure him of the
ill will of the men who took Abner to trial. During the incident, Abner accused Sarty of almost
betraying him in court, which was a groundless accusation. However, he only wanted to make his
claims more believable when saying that these men only wanted revenge and that he was in the right
position all along. However, Sarty was not convinced and did not even speak a word. He kept what he
believed in inside his head, which was the truth, for fear of his father s wrath, and throughout the
story, Sarty s inner battle continues. On the outside, he pretended to always be on his father s side, but
in the inside, he knew that his father was wrong. However, this did not last long. Despite his actions of
defending his father when de Spain announced the fine, the doubts of his father was getting even
stronger than ever. When his father asked him to get oil, he loudly protested against the action as he
knew his father was about to use the oil for another wrongful act. In the end, Sarty decided to take
another road, a road that led to the separation of the family. Similarly, another study also mentioned
that although in the end, Sarty had to face the fact that he needed to part from his family in order to

Le Carnaval Des Animaux-Ciklus Virtuoso
The online concert that I listened to was called Le Carnaval des Animaux Ciklus Virtuoso, which
lasted about twenty seven minutes. Le Carnaval des Animaux composed of a chamber orchestra, it
was a small group playing. If I listened to this on a CD, I would think this was a symphony orchestra.
While watching this concert, I observed many different things. The instruments that I saw were
pianos, cello, violin, clarinet, xylophone, flute, and the viola. The piece s dynamics started out
pianissimo (very softly) and then began to go from soft to louder over time which is called crescendo
and the other instruments started to chime in. The most played instrument in the concert was the
piano. When the pianos were playing, they sometimes took low runs of octaves. The piano played a
cackling tune as the violin started to play louder. The first movement concluded with all the
instruments using a fortissimo (very loud) note. In the middle of the concert, the pianos played a
higher, softer, version of the melody while the violins were playing at the same beat. More towards the
end, the piano was played gentle, while a solo cello played a slow smooth melody. The pitch of the
violin sound went from high pitch to low pitch. My observation throughout listening to this concert
were, it sounded to me like the violins and cellos were attempting to make squeaky noises to imitate a
certain type of animal. The same scale was played over and over again. The flute was played very
softly, while the cello was played louder. Towards the middle of the concert, the melody is played by
the flute. The xylophone was played in rondo form, which was played in more than ... Show more

Silver In Alloy Essay
Analysis of Silver in an Alloy
Introduction
In this experiment an alloy of silver will be analyzed to determine its silver content. The silver copper
alloy will be dissolved in nitric acid, the silver will be precipitated as silver chloride, and the silver
chloride will be filtered, washed, dried and its mass determined. From the mass of the silver chloride
formed and the mass of the original sample, you will be able to calculate the percent of silver in the
alloy. Because the results are based on the mass of a product, this procedure is classified as a
gravimetric analysis.
Silver and copper are very nonreactive metals. Neither will dissolve in hydrochloric acid or sulfuric
acid. The oxidizing acid nitric acid, HN03, is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While in table 1 it is shown that we had to round to two decimal places lacing a small error. And not
only that but also the fact that as table 2 shows that the final amount needed was .0131 g less to the
actual mount that we added from table 1. During the procedure our percent error must of have come
from loosing the silver ions. After heating we had to wash the moisture of the watch glass back into
the beaker and there could have been a possibility that we didn t wash of all of the silver back into the
beaker. When it precipitated, some of the particles may have peptized causing us to filter out some of
the silver chloride precipitate. Also when removing the filter paper from the buchner funnel some of
the precipitate may have been lost, which is just due to human error. Which all experiments have.
Discussion
In the lab you must first dissolve the alloy in nitric acid; if the allot doesn t completely dissolve it may
cause some error in your final result because not all of your silver ions were dissolved. You then must
make a solution of distilled water added with sodium chloride. Once you calculate the amount of
sodium chloride needed you must double the amount for the experiment to push the reaction to a full
completion. This essentially should precipitate all of silver and none of the copper. No accurate
balance is needed to measure out the sodium chloride because as long as you have an excess of

Why Bollenbach Opened His Bidding at $55 per Share
1. Why might Bollenbach have opened his bidding for ITT at $55 per share? What was his likely
strategy? The $55 value is on the lower range of the analyst eztimates, with a best guess estimate of
$67.94. Since the value of the stock had been below $45 for 4 months, the offer of 55 dollars
represented a 29% premium to investors. Bollenbach knew that management would be resistant of any
attempt to be acquired, regardless of price, because of failed previous attempts to negotiate a friendly
merger at year end 1996. The 55 dollar benchmark created an expectation for ITT management to
achieve that level, or higher and the premium is enough to demonstrate to investors it is a real offer.

Reviewing The Requirements For Announcing Federal Contract...
Evaluate the requirements for announcing federal contract awards. Determine how these requirements
apply to this scenario. All federal agencies have to make a public announcement for any contracts
awards over the $3.5 million or above threshold. The FAR mandates that all federal agencies have to
notify the public of the contract awards by 5:00p.m. eastern time zone on the day of the award.
According to Compton (2010) The FAR does not require agencies to notify members of Congress
when contracts are awarded in their jurisdictions, but agencies typically want to involve
congresspeople in the contract award process (Compton, p.195). According to FAR there are contracts
that are excluded from this requirement such as those placed under the Small Business Association
section 8(a) of the Small Business Act, ones with overseas firms when place of deliver or performed
outside the United States, and those outline was excused under 5.202(a)(1). Some department have a
different threshold from the FAR, anywhere from $250,000 to $10 million. The Department of State is
$10 million while the Department of Defense is $5.5 million. There is also a threshold for notifying
members of Congress for an example the Department of the Interior is $500,00. The Department of
Homeland Security is $1 million but the Department of Defense does not have a dollar requirement to
notify Congress. The way the government announces these contract awards is by utilizing the

  • 2. Bioengineer s Role In Oryx And Crake Bioengineer and its role in Oryx and Crake Oryx and Crake is one of my favorite readings in the semester. I like the flow and arrangement of the plots. The novel is an enthralling post apocalyptic story with a detailed description of the science and technology it based on. The most important science and technology involved in the novel is genetic or Bioengineering. The novel was written in late 20th century and early 21st century, a time when many breakthroughs and controversial Bioengineering incidents took place. Atwood is known as an avid environmentalist of the time. She was concerned about the ethical controversial and the downplay of the humanities at the time and choose to use her work to examine the trend in development and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the novel, the two main characters grew up in a cosmetic focused Bioengineering company s compound. The creation of a compound integrating different functions and providing different services for a company is not such a novel idea today. Many internet tycoons like Google and Microsoft have their own campuses which provide similar services and amenities to their employees as the compounds described in the book. However, to emphasize the effect Bioengineering would have on a society, Atwood took a step forward by making the compounds more secluded and exaggerated the power and functionalities of them. The seclusion created by the Bioengineering companies directly led to the divided social classes. People who were associated with companies resided in the privileged compound and people who were not related to the company lived in the dangerous Pleebland. It was a privileged but also an underprivileged to be in the compound in a way. Unlike the charitable attributes of technology companies campuses today, the compounds in the book were created to withhold the scientists and protect the Bioengineering secrets of the companies. Jimmy s mother viewed it as a prison and Jimmy in the later chapters would try to use the word freedom to persuade his mistress to elope with him to Pleebland. The corporate power enabled by exclusive Bioengineering technology can be seen throughout the book. Bioengineering companies had control over every aspect of the daily life for people live both inside and outside of the compounds. Atwood warned the risks of having monopoly Bioengineering companies by making all the companies in the book monopolies. This kind of monopoly enabled technological power to develop into political power and eliminated the existence of any modern government structures. The overpowering of the Bioengineering companies also leads to the complete lack of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Application Of A Raspberry Pi Everyday all over the world thousands of dollars are wasted by people forgetting or not knowing that they have left their lights on. As a person who enjoys fixing problems I set out to design a product to fix this problem. Before I explain the things, I have researched I should probably explain my product itself. My product consists of a Raspberry Pi, light sensor, another circuit, and multiple components for visual purposes and for voltage reading. As most of the parts for this have already been made and are compatible with the Raspberry Pi, most of my product consist of costume made coding. The first thing I researched was the Raspberry Pi as it is the main component of this product. A Raspberry Pi is basically a single board computer with all the same components as a normal computer, but just much smaller. The main coding language that is used on a Raspberry Pi is Python (that is what language we decided to go with). Finding out that a Raspberry Pi is just a tiny computer I decided the next step would be to research the parts of a computer to fully understand how the Raspberry Pi would be handling the data sent to it by the modules. The first main part of a computer is the CPU (Central Processing Unit). The Central Processing Unit takes the data, numbers, and information given to the computer and processes it in to data that the other parts of the computer can use. The easiest way to describe it is as the brains of the computer as it basically does the same thing as our ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I think this article is effective because the authors mentioned few studies that contradicted their opinion and they even mentioned the reasons why people continue to smoke after the patients being supported through counseling. Coraghessan Boyle s short story Greasy Lake , the reader is brought into an intense situation that occurs on one of the first nights during the young adult boy s summer vacation. The narrator, whose name is never revealed, is out on an adventurous night with his friends Digby and Jeff. While out, they find themselves discovering whether or not the idea of who they thought they wanted to be and, associate themselves with, was actually what they desired. This conveys the idea that fantasy and reality do not always correlate due to inevitable consequences. Michael Adams a British journalist for BBC described Boyle s upbringing as having a rebellious youth who played drums, sang in a rock and roll band, and drove fast cars . Along with this Adams states that Boyle Did not get along with his father, a school bus driver whose alcoholism killed him at age fifty four in 1972. Boyle s mother, a secretary, was also an alcoholic and died of liver failure . Greasers most often come from rough family backgrounds and find themselves indulging in fast cars, and enjoy mischievous activities such as drugs and alcohol. With the rough and untraditional childhood that T. C Boyle endured perhaps it inspired him to develop Greasy Lake . • 10. Bullet In The Brain Analysis The evaluation of the short novel, Bullet in the Brain by Tobias Wolff was quite an interesting subject matter when it comes to the understanding of one s true experience with the phrase My life flashed before my eyes . In this novel, Wolff tells a story about a man named Anders who experiences forgotten memories in his life and realizes what he once was and what he turned out to be in the end. Wolff s interpretation of memory in this novel made a unique remark and left a deep understanding on how someone could easily change in life without them even noticing. Throughout the course of this story, Wolff takes you to Anders short remainder of time in life and what psychological adventure he experiences in this short amount of time. This novel by Tobias Wolff shows a great deal of elements that one novel should need at all times. Bullet in the Brain takes place in a bank where the main character of the story, Anders, goes to right before they closes because he was apparently pretty preoccupied in his life. He comes in and since it was right before it was closing time, a great deal of people are in line to do their own business at the same time as him. Anders has an unfortunate luck as he goes in line right behind two annoying and loud women who was having a, according to Wolff, stupid conversation. The opening part of the piece has a significant amount of dissonance, bringing a sense of anxiety and desire for the piece to end. As it rises, the listener is both anxious for an ending and a resolution. The piano is this ending. The piece then picks up in a minor key, entering a more mystical and quiet place. The piano takes precedence with the cello sitting in the background yet when the listener thinks the pieces will be piano heavy, the cello takes over the piano withdraws to the background. The deep vibratos of the cello are contrasted with the light single key of the piano. This leads the listener to associate the cello with a lament and the piano for hope. Two directors created their own interpretations of the play. Franco Zefferelli directed a version of the play which had many similarities and differences to Baz Luhrmann. Furthermore, both films have many similar and different interpretations of Mercutio from the original play. However, Harold Perrineau did a more realistic portrayal of Mercutio s death, while McEnery demonstrated a more comedic portrayal of Mercutio. In general, McEnery demonstrates being more comedic than Harold Perrineau. During these lines of dialogue, McEnery portrays Mercutio as a jokester because he crawls up the church steps and falls again, while everyone is laughing at him. Although, in the original play we know Mercutio jokes around and is never to be taken seriously, Mercutio s death in the modern film is more believable. Harold Perrineau portrays a more serious death of Mercutio. He acts more believable as someone actually dying. It is about a time when Wordsworth himself went walking and found a group of daffodils. Through the use of similes, personification and alliteration, Wordsworth shows how his emotions changed after seeing the beautiful daffodils. Wordsworth starts of the poem in a sad and depressed mood. He is not happy as he is walking alone without any purpose. Nothing around him seems beautiful to him, and he seems lonely and sad. Suddenly he is no longer alone as he feels happy with the presence of these golden flowers. To show his emotion change, Wordsworth uses personification. Wordsworth is personifying the daffodils by saying that they are standing in a crowd like an army. This is a description appropriate for humans, but flowers to not stand in crowds. By using personification, Wordsworth shows that there a lot of daffodils that are standing together like an army full of soldiers. This also shows that they are standing very noticeable and catch the attention of Wordsworth. Personification is used further in the poem to show how Wordsworth is now using happy words to describe the daffodils. In the 6th line he writes, Fluttering and dancing in the breeze . Homelessness, in Seattle, has shown to be an enormous issue when it comes to the conditions the homeless live in and how their human rights are not being fulfilled. Consequently, the city has shown much concern to address this issue in terms of raising the budget, assessing the root of the problem and showing motivation to lower the number of people living on the street. The concern here is what will happen when another earthquake occurs in a large dense area such as Los Angeles County, California. Throughout its early history, the United States had a sporadic relationship with the intelligence community, only utilizing intelligence during wartime. After World War II, it became clear that the United States needed to enhance its intelligence gathering systems in order to prevent another disaster of this magnitude. Reacting to this pressure, policymakers soon drafted and passed the National Intelligence Act of 1947, creating the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), the United States first peacetime intelligence agency. Though not always entirely authorized to do so, the CIA has carried out many covert operations with varying levels of success. Despite the fact that some of these operations have been a success, covert operations have largely been a detriment to the United States; covert operations hurt the United States public image, rarely fix the original problem entirely, and were not meant, by those who drafter the National Intelligence Act of 1947, to be carried out by the CIA. Founded under the National Intelligence Act, the CIA is authorized to act as follows: coordinating the nation s intelligence activities and correlating, evaluating and disseminating intelligence affecting national security (History). The National Security Act remained vague enough on the legality of CIA actions that the CIA was able to use one sentence from the National Security Act to justify covert operations. ... During the procedure our percent error must of have come from loosing the silver ions. After heating we had to wash the moisture of the watch glass back into the beaker and there could have been a possibility that we didn t wash of all of the silver back into the beaker. When it precipitated, some of the particles may have peptized causing us to filter out some of the silver chloride precipitate.
